dp x dc prompt

after the trio graduate high-school, they decide to have a ghost tour of the country in the summer before college

documenting everything on social media (where it reads as an arg of sorts with the amount of spooky things they manage to do), they have tons of fun debunking various haunted hot spots on sam's occult bucket list or recommended by their viewers

they make their way to gotham to investigate the sightings of jason todd's ghost

#dp x dc #im imagining tim or someone being super into their show and jokingly tell them that theyve seen jason todd wandering aroujd gotham (true)#what the bat fails to realize is that they are actual competent hunters and passively deal with any spirits they encounter off camera #keeping them safe from the giw or themselves #most places arent actually haunted so its really just a vacation disguised as a job (so danny takes a real break)#the mental image i had was just #jason grabbing a casual bite to eat at the hot dog stand he loves and notices a group of teens standing in the distance #jason: suspicious >:| *angry bite of hot dog*#*cue obligitory danny and jason scene where jason gets healed and is baffled when the teens just disappear into thin air*#ok so rambling done #also sorry if ur still waitinv on an update on my other posts or my dpxdc week submission that i promised 😔🖐#irls been rough to say the least #just wanted to get something out there even if its just a silly little prompt #ALSO!! this was everlasting trio in my head #doesnt change anything and u can get rid of it #just wanted yall to know that extra bit from my brain

rjdjd HHAA okay so-

ive always thought that people going to gotham for field trip fics was just??? so dumb and silly. love how certain ppl can execute that in fics but the thought of ppl going to Crime Town USA for enrichment is hilarious to me.

then i started thinking 'huh, i bet amity parkers would be that crazy' and did some more thinking. i started cobbling together different aus that have been floating around the phandom until i got this monstrosity: the guardian spirit field trip au (those posts are just some stepping points for those who don't know. its one of my fave aus)

the casper high field trips had steadily been to more and more dangerous places (or at least activities that most people would be too scared to do bc of the high chance of death). the final straw was when students asked if they could go to gotham and the staff didn't see anything wrong with it. after all, why worry when phantom was just a prayer away?

the effects of phantoms protection has left a lot of amity citizens a bit more blasé abt these things but they care. they leave letters from their travels and gifts for phantom. they're still new to having someone be able to save them if they needed it

danny on the other hand has slowly been getting a bit more unstable. he's a bit too keyed into his obsession right now and needs help managing it. when he hears about the trip to gotham, he's actually relieved.

'batman is a guardian spirit too,' he thinks to himself with a relieved sigh, 'batman will know how to handle this, the paranoia'

TOO BAD BATMAN IS JUST SOME GUY HAHAHA (that's mean of me sorry)

anyways, danny is one of the people who is out here advocating to staff how educational and safe the trip to gotham will be. he's fighting tooth and nail to get the trip approved. it's true that he could fly to gotham and just ask, but getting an alibi and a place to rest while there would take a huge load off of his shoulders.

when the trip is finally approved, danny (and a lot of other people) are ecstatic. that is, until the conditions.

no reanimating your lunch with street ectoplasm ("we're serious about this, the next person to do so gets suspended")

no going anywhere without your phantom necklaces

no students with grades less than a C average for the past grading period

danny is devastated. his grades had been on the rise but with the added sensory hell that is being able to tell when the people you protect get hurt, he hasn't been studying as well as he could.

as the rest of casper high's students heads out to gotham, arms loaded high with phantom merchandise and promises to send back gifts for their resident hero. danny can only watch as he realizes he sent his people into gotham alone.

gotham on the other hand, are not ready for the almost cult like mentality of amity parkers teen population. gothamites think phantom is just some hero who got a really big head. and an entire school group heading to *gotham* of a places for a fun weekend getaway? they don't know what's in the water up in amity but it sounds like it's going to get someone killed.

the bats think it's suspicious and try to look into it. extending an invitation to tour one of the many wayne facilities/programs wouldnt be too out of place would it? either way it would be good for them, keeping clueless civilians who don't seem to care about the danger they're in out of harms way is just part of the job. (they just wish that getting information that made sense from them was that easy)

my wip names are honestly ridiculous bc that's the only way ill remember to write them

stephanie being dannys mom is smth im honestly surprised no one else has thought of yet! it has a ton of potential. i would be writing it but i still haven't read enough to be comfortable writing steph and various other batfam members :(

it would take place maybe 15 years in the future (for the batfam).

stephanie and cass have gotten together (love that them) bruce is retired, alfred is being cared for by the family in his later life, and everyone has settled into their lives getting married or otherwise. everything is as perfect as vigilantes can get it.

that's when stephanie gets a call. the baby she gave up all those years ago wants to meet her. one danny fenton.

in this danny is a born blond but dyes his hair because he wants to (its not that deep its absolutely that deep) i also took the chance to have trans danny and ran with it (context for those who dont know: stephs baby in the comics was a blond girl).

at this point he's been phantom for maybe a half a year, maybe more? not too long at least. he likes to think that hes been handling it alright but all the stress of being the only "meta" hero in amity is getting to him (oh yeah baby we're getting some denial abt the true nature of his powers)

after being shot at by his adoptive parents, he brings up the topic of his adoption to his parents (yes he knows he's adopted, it was a bit hard to hide. that and jazz told him. she read was the only one to actually read the books on they bought) danny reassures them that 'yes, he does love them, he just wants to know'. maybe get to sit down with his birth mother, see what kind of person she is.

after getting the okay and jumping through so many hoops, danny kind of freaks out. he doesn't want to interupt her life, or make her hate him (like his parents hate him oh no what if he's making a mistake)

steph meanwhile is having a similar freak out. she never expected to recieve a call but she did. the information that she agreed to share when she was alone after giving birth and maybe a bit sad (a lot sad) was used. steph doesn't know what to expect when danny (not her baby, never her baby) flies into gotham but she lives up to the bat name by being way too prepared.

too bad nobody can really prepare for the fact that the child that they gave up to have a better life died and came back as an interdimensional being :(

oh ok so this is the one ive been trying to write all week! (before that dang court twin au got to me <- affectionate)

basically it's me trying to reconcile what dannys childhood would have been like if he was raised in the league and how he would grow into the danny we know.

it's going to have parts of it showcase where he fit into the al ghuls, leading into him actually leaving the league (not his own choice).

it would then focus on him finding a place in civilian life and trying to cope with how he was raised and the mindset the league instilled in him (which is going to take a long while,,, danny doesn't really see the issue with his childhood rn)

i have so many moments planned for this! jazz is going to have so many times to shine lol. i can't wait for it to get out of planning stages!! it's my favorite right now haha

actually u know what im gonna share a bit of what i wrote:

talia says nothing the next morning when she finds her only (remaining) son with his back flush against the wall where danyal’s bed had once been. she says nothing of the tear tracks she sees. while small, it is the only comfort she can provide him.

she gazes out the window to the mountains in the distance and hopes that whatever decision danyal has made, he will never cross their paths again. that is the only comfort she can provide to him. it feels as paltry as the one she gives damian now

*sneaks this in despite the fact i said i wouldn't write anything else for this au*

to elaborate on how frostbite fails as a lawyer, its not actually his fault. he's actually a good lawyer, a super good lawyer in fact. but only in the far frozen. frostbite is *too* competent for wacky ghost zone court hijinks.

it's like when ur playing ace attorney and you're making all the logical conclusions but you can't figure out how the game wants you to present the info.

"actually danny was innocent in kidnapping the mayor" oh yeah? where's the evidence? where in the testimony did they lie? and then you have to prove who actually did it instead you know.... just proving that your client *didnt* do it

at that point frostbite is just throwing spaghetti at the wall and hoping something sticks

damian meanwhile is trying to compartmentalize the fact that his dead twin is staring him down across the courtroom and that he needs to help clear his name

damian was offered the chance to go home during the recess but after hearing the far frozen ghosts (and various others) plead dannys case and tell tales of how danny was a good person, damian decided to stay and help. (esp since frostbite was working himself into a tizzy trying to make sense of the court room)

i love the idea that danny is afraid of the person damian would turn out to be after being raised by the league, but the chance to do the reverse is few and far between. think about it, damian shows up for a *trial* in which he has to recount all of the ways danny was a terrible person before he "died" (regardless of choice, danny did those things) reminding himself that the brother he knew was *not a good person*

damian has no reason to believe danny is a different person now. not until he hears people desperate to have him cleared of charges on the grounds of the character they believe he possesses. a good person who wouldn't let anyone come to harm under his care. a hero.

damian may not have the full story but there isn't a chance in hell he'd let his twin weather this storm alone.

meanwhile on the material plane, the batfam are convening to figure out where the hell damian went (i chose to go with the idea that he's been snatched up before breakfast in his pjs) he's not at any of the places he frequents. jon hasn't come by and he didn't even tell alfred where he was going. the only evidence they have is the security footage in which a strange glowing shape blurs into existence before damian disappears. they have no choice but to consult a magic user

tucker, sam and jazz on the other hand have their hands full trying to figure out what they're going to do about danny being gone for an unknown amount of time.

the part of the trio in the human world can't actually go into the zone because: 1) it's a school day and theres a super important test that day 2) theres a ghost guarding the area around the protal to make sure those two *specifically* dont go to break danny out 3) guys idk i just can't have them in the zone rn

jazz calls both her and danny out of school sick and takes to the zone. she hardly ever goes in but she does know where johnny and kitty's lair is. she can only hope they have answers to what exactly is happening.

they just so happen to be watching the trial broadcast. jazz doesn't take well to the fact that johnny is laughing at her brothers predicament.

excerpt:

jazz throws her hands up into the air in frustration, angry tears welling in her eyes "it's ghost court! it could last a century and they wouldn't even notice!"

kitty rubbed her back and glared at johnny from over her shoulder

johnny, who apparently did not have any love of his afterlife, cut in absent-mindedly from where he was working on his bike

"probably, that judge is known for entertaining more than actually doing his job"

that's right kids the real reason they're having a hard time is because the judge is the ghost of a reality tv judge who's obsessed with making every court session as interesting as possible!

call back to my tags on the last post: danny is in fact NOT supposed to be on criminal trial right now! the judge was just so tired of low ratings seeing as nobody in the ghost zone cares to look beyond their own obsessions (in his own words).

so when the case of an acclaimed figure like danny crossed his desk? well, no one wants to tune into something boring like a cut and dry custody transfer (let's face it the fentons aren't keeping danny) so he... tweaks the case a little bit. okay, a lot a bit.

dannys fighting for his afterlife out here because the judge decided that he wanted to be popular again. that would be a fun conflict to have at the end when frostbite and damian manage to clear danny of all charges and the judge goes ballistic. he's trying to bring up any and everything that has relevance, desperate to keep the trial broadcasting ("the best ratings ive had in years! i can't just stop now, they love me!")

both brothers realizing what the heck happened are absolutely furious. they proceed to curbstomp the judge (who has a giant gavel as a weapon! good thing damian can give danny pointers on how to fight an opponent like that due to his experience with harley quinn)

the batfam and the trio finally manage to show up but everything is over already

a fate worse than getting a call from the county jail

twin au where danny is put on trial in the ghost zone but since the ghost zone's judicial system is a mess they call for a character witness from various periods of his life bc he's still technically living

(a word about the court proceedings. due to the fact that i know next to nothing abt real court and i don't want to do research for a prompt i have no time to write, the entire trial is going to be on some ace attorney bullshit.)

damian gets ghost jury duty (i know it's not jury duty but that was too funny not to write)

as it turns out, getting the news that your brothers ghost is still around from a glowing green figure that materialized in your dining room is not a great way to get news. if you want to start the trial right away, damian is whisked off in his pjs. if he gets some time, it takes place that night. still, it's not a lot of time to process that you're about to see your dead brother who is apparently a criminal.

well dannys always technically been a criminal. murder is very much illegal no matter what age you are.

damian isn't allowed to know what the charges are bc it may influence how he recounts the testimony. this does not bode well to damian.

danny on the other hand does NOT know that damian is even going to be there. so the first time they lock eyes across the court room danny is a complete mess.

but guess what's an even bigger mess? the fact that the last time the twins saw each other they were literal baby assassins.

the character witness doesn't help in the slightest. if anything it goes even worse (but for who?)

damian gets to bond with the ghosts of the far frozen during the recess.

WAIT IS FROSTBITE DANNYS LAWYER?? if so i will only be putting him in more elaborate robes, no matter how funny the idea of him in a suit and tie is. non western traditional garb is professional and i will not fall into that pit.

ANYWAYS

frostbite is dannys lawyer but he's kinda bad at it,,, (the far frozens court system is a lot more straight forward)

he's basically the pheonix wright of the courtroom. he's gonna get the job done but by god is he gonna make some mistakes.

damian is going to have to be his maya or smth. damian is reading the court files (which are horribly put together who wrote this shit??) to try and help frostbite put a case together and???? WTF HAS HIS BROTHER BEEN DOING WITH HIS AFTERLIFE

to those wondering where the rest of the trio are, they weren't allowed to know where the trial is taking place due to their history of helping danny break out of prison. this doesn't stop them from trying to break him out. or stop them from getting help 👀👀

that's right kiddos, they go to gotham. not for the bats, but to figure out why one of the waynes is at one of the most prolific ghost trials in centuries (dannys gone around the block at this point. people are curious to see the verdict, if any)

kitty and jazz are friends so kitty let's slip what's going on and who exactly showed up.

('why the hell is damian wayne there?!')

that's all i have for right now, kinda fond of it so i may write smth short for it.

probably not so go wild with it. anyone is welcome to cannibalize this for parts.

(oh yeah the song i was blasting while writing this was innocent man by billy joel. just thought it'd be funny to mention)
