The Water Houses: Unseen and Unknown
Recorded for myself, posted for others to reference. Read my blog bio or refer to my masterlist for more detail.
The 4th House: What You've Hidden
The 4th house rules the distinction between the private and public, in favor of the former. It's the house of domesticity, nostalgia, and the past, where we take shelter and tend to our foundations, which are critical to us and who we are, but are unseen by everyone else. Placements here are guarded and tender, and we only ever share them with those that we share our lives.
Because of this, there are parts of individuals with natal 4th house placements that they don't feel comfortable expressing in public or around those they don't know well. They may imitate those who raised them rather then risk revealing the skills, beliefs, and other aspects that they get from a planet in 4th, and they sometimes get offended if people expect them to be vulnerable about something they feel is reserved for those they are closest to.
The 4th house is counterpart to the 10th house. Together, these two houses form an axis of recognition.
The 8th House: What Others Have Hidden
The 8th house rules how our self, life, and world intersect with the value and values of others. It's a place of intimacy, transformation, and trauma, where we keep each other's secrets, and any secrets shared between us. Placements here are magnetic, intoxicating even, but we avoid acknowledging them in the open because the power they hold over us is terrifying.
Because of this, there are parts of individuals with natal 8th house placements that make others weirdly uneasy. People may refuse to acknowledge certain achievements or celebrate certain talents if they come from a planet in the 8th house, and they can react with much more hostility than is warranted to related mistakes or flaws. Even those you love and those who love you may find it deeply uncomfortable to witness this part of you.
The 8th house is counterpart to the 2nd house. Together, these two houses form an axis of worth.
The 12th House: What is Hidden from You
The 12th house rules the uncertain, in ourself and in the world. It is a void - simultaneously a place where we can hide, and a place that hides so much from us. Placements here are elusive and alluring, often inspiring as much fear and awe in us as they do confusion.
Because of this, individuals with 12th house placements may find themselves difficult to define, or even difficult to control. These natives may search for clarity on these parts of themself in others, but this rarely gives them any satisfaction. Only by accepting some level of mystery in themselves and in the world can they find peace with these placements. Otherwise, they risk falling into certain comfort traps like escapism, cults, and codependency.
The 12th house is counterpart to the 6th house. Together, these two houses form an axis of growth.

New House System, Who dis?
I've been experimenting with different House systems and I've moved away from time-based systems to space-based systems (I'll do a post explaining both!). Experimenting with the different House systems has been really eye-opening. Especially for exposing the weakness of the Placidus system. I'll be posting my own personal chart in the new House system that I've been experimenting with. It's been really fun to tinker around with when I'm needing a break from studying for midterms, finals, and finishing papers. I'm excited to share it with all of you :)

hi, which house system do you think is more accurate: Placidus or WHS? and may i also ask why you choose one over the other? thanks !! hehe
Hello!
As I started out practicing astrology I learned placidus first, but during the last few years I started including whole signs in my practice too, simply because there are so many house systems which all have their rightfull use and effect! My advice to everyone is use the house system(s) that works for you and your readings, don't think too much in boxes and be open to learn more and expand your knowledge. At the end you can always decide what to include or not and you never have to only use one house system. I've read once that people said that placidus is good for psychological astrology and whole signs is good at telling you what's manifesting irl, but personally I saw both playing out either ways, so again, it really all comes down to your own practice of astrology and how you define it! Good luck on your journey xx

This inclusive environment, coupled with an engaging block schedule and welcoming House System, has helped our students earn record academic results and quickly find where they belong   As a Catholic High School, Trinity also takes great pride in being a college-preparatory high school forming men of faith and men of character.    The Archdiocese of Louisville sponsors the school, which is governed by a board of directors representing a broad cross-section of the community. The United States Department of Education has recognized Trinity as a School of Excellence. Trinity is accredited by AdvancED, the Department of Education of the Commonwealth of Kentucky and is a member of the National Catholic Educational Association.   Trinity High School admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs and activities generally available to students. Trinity does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin, or disability (if with reasonable accommodation the student can meet the requirements of Trinity’s course of study) in the administration of its educational policies, scholarship or loan programs, athletic or other school-administered programs.

Luo Binghe pov fics that have him be amused or confounded by his silly shizun are the best actually. I know his rose tinted glasses of affection are basically opaque, but you cannot tell me the silly goofy wackiness that is shen yuan does not peak through and throw binghe off his rhythm at times. During his disciple days he definitely thought "he's so smart and yet so dumb at the same time. Is anyone gonna take care of him?" And didnt wait for an answer.

Some House System and Overlay Notes
Recorded for my own convenience, published for your reference. Don’t steal my work. Disclaimer in my bio.
🏛 Natal planets rule over parts of the self, natal signs rule over ways of behaving, and natal houses rule over areas of our lives.
🏛 This is why, while you can calculate and read a chart without one, a house system is necessary for an accurate in-depth reading. What is the use of knowing someone without a context to place them in?
🏛 In other words: who cares how you fight [Mars Sign] or who your allies and enemies are [Mars Aspects] if you don’t know the battlefield [Mars House]?
🏛 Another example: it doesn’t matter how you handle hardships [Saturn Sign] or what will aid or hinder you in doing so [Saturn Aspects] unless you pay attention to where these obstacles come from [Saturn Houses].
🏛 For a literary analogy, planets are characters. The aspects between them are their dynamics, how they interact with one another.
🏛 The house system is the world they inhabit - not just the setting, but the lore, narrative, and genre, with each individual house representing a specific plot thread, a specific theme, specific scenery.
🏛 The signs, which help flesh out both your characters [planets] and world [house system], are literary conventions, archetypes, and motifs. They are not representative of nuance - but they give you a solid grasp on the story from the start, if you are paying attention.
🏛 Keeping all this in mind can help you much better understand how houses relate to one another, or the way they feature in your chart.
🏛 Don’t worry - it’s actually really common to initially struggle to connect with your 1st house!
🏛 You know how you always hear about how sun sign astrology turns people off because it’s incomplete? There are more nuanced explanations for why someone may not identify with their sun sign on first blush!
🏛 It’s often because they have low self esteem. The sun is a sort of ‘best self’. Those who don’t see their own innate potential will naturally reject their sun sign.
🏛 If that’s not the case, they might be allowing their emotions [Moon], desires [Venus], or other subjective ideas to warp their perception of what makes them strong, or where they most shine. Aspects and prominence can often play a role in this.
🏛 The same is all true for the Ascendant - except rather than the best self, it is the raw self.
🏛 Thus, rather than people with low self esteem or people who have biased ideas of their best qualities, rejection of the Ascendant is most often seen from those who are absorbed in their mental and emotional perceptions, as well as those who highly prioritize an identity they have selected for themselves.
🏛 If you don’t resonate with your 1st House, check your 5th and 9th, especially if you have weak Mars.
🏛 All three domains are fundamental to direct relations between the self and the world, so they can provide an access point through which you can better understand your 1st house.
🏛 The 1st house extends to you as an animal. It rules your form and essence and will to be, your urges, your gut reactions.
🏛 The self you find here is born of instinct. It is as close to the bestial, animal state of a native that you will find in a chart - even more so than one’s Mars.
🏛 This is why people have long associated the 1st house with image and first impressions.
🏛 It’s not because it represents a false mask or a misconception born of social decorum - it’s because first impressions are most often formed from habits and behaviors you aren’t even aware you have and do!
🏛 Hence, people who are really in their head may reject the Ascendant because oftentimes our inner world and the way we interact with the external world don’t align the way we think they do.
🏛 Similarly, people who cling to a specific identity - cultural or otherwise - may reject the Ascendant because it doesn’t align with what they expect of themselves, or with their ideals.
🏛 It’s also why we associate the 1st house with the body and physicality, even though it’s a fire house instead of an earth house - because our physical form is our raw, animal self.
🏛 All this also is why the Vedic Ascendant, which is the archetype we align with, is mathematically calculated such that it is most likely to fall into the 1st house, but not guaranteed.
🏛 Some people are born with more of a connection to the material or to the intangible! Whether you tend to have more physical or spiritual impulses can partially depend on if you have a Vedic Ascendant that falls in the 12th or 2nd house.
🏛 The 5th house extends to you as a person, a human being. It rules your names and likes and dislikes, your habits, your preferences.
🏛 The self you find here is informed by what you like. It’s a self that you express through choices. This is why it is tied to your Sun: joy is vital to developing the best self.
🏛 You know how hobbies, pastimes, and creativity are tied to the 5th house, as well as children, sex, gambling, and performances?
🏛 Joy is not the only uniting factor between these concepts. There’s also the role of the native as a decision maker! It is your choices that shape the child. It is your choices that dictate the stakes when you gamble. It is your choices that create a performance. It is your choice to develop this or that skill.
🏛 This is directly in contrast to the 1st house's primal impulses. You may think you have full power over your instincts because your instincts are to control, to watch, to be cautious, but the power to disengage with these instincts is fundamentally unobtainable.
🏛 (And the urge to try and disprove that would only be another way in which those instincts exercise control over you! This is the type of cycle you’ll see Martian and Saturnian 1sts with addictions fall into.)
🏛 And the 9th extends to you as a spirit or soul. It rules your beliefs and ideas and worldview, your destiny, your narrative.
🏛 The self you find here is a result of experiences. This includes systems of faith, moral theories, philosophies, intellectual outlooks - any complex framework of perspective that must be formed through experience, time, study, observation, workshopping, long-form input from the external world.
🏛 Does that make it more obvious why academia, religion, and far travel are all considered under the domain of the 9th house? All of them involve long term exposure to the larger world and even universe, and the internal conclusions that can be drawn from reflecting upon that exposure.
🏛 Therein lies the difference between the self of the 9th and of the 1st - the self of the 1st is immediate and pure. Its form can be affected by experiences, but its essence is intrinsically the same.
🏛 For example, Gemini Risings never stop learning - it’s how they relate to the world at a foundational level, even if they try to force themselves to ignore the world around them. Observation is like breathing to them. They are born a student.
🏛 In contrast, a Gemini 9th comes to adopt the role of student because it’s how they flesh out their ideals and beliefs and propels them to spiritual fulfillment. But it is not an inborn need - it is a behavior they must be taught.
🏛 You can do something similar with the 4th, 8th, and 12th house - all have to do with secrets, unknowns, vulnerabilities, and the intangibly powerful.
🏛 The 4th house has to do those that are your own or that you adopt as your own when you adopt someone or something as one of your own.
🏛 The 8th has to do with those that are shared between you and another, whether that’s because someone has shared their own with you or it is a matter of intimacy equally shared between you and someone else.
🏛 The 12th has to do with those that are collective, universal, those which by their existence dissolve the very boundaries that they are predicated on.
🏛 If you have difficulty accessing one house, use your experience with another as a lever to open its doors.
🏛 Try to find the personal [4th] in the universal [12th], or share what is private [4th] with another so it becomes a matter of intimacy [8th], or reflect on the cosmic truths [12th] that another’s vulnerability [8th] might reveal to you.
🏛 The other house trios can also be handled this way, but I’ll save that for another post!
🏛 Going back to one of my favorite synastry forms with house overlays, the reason why it’s worth studying them is because they exist in any synastry chart, regardless of whether you have strong aspects or not.
🏛 This is not to undercut the value and significance of aspects. House overlays cannot substitute aspects. Aspects are crucial and if you are serious about learning about astrology, you must eventually familiarize yourself with them in your own right.
🏛 This is because aspects represent dynamics between parts of the self in both natal and synastry charts. House overlays cannot provide insight into this - you’ll have to settle for looking at aspects involving angles and, to a certain extent, Western house cusps.
🏛 However, interplay between houses based on prominence in individual charts can be used to do something sort of similar, and it’s worth looking into.
🏛 Let me provide an example of what I mean using the Vedic synastry chart for me and my mother! We start with the moon, because this is mother-daughter synastry.
🏛 My Aquarius Moon is in my 9th house. This suggests vital ties between the themes of the 9th house and my experiences with my mother.
🏛 My mother’s Moon falls into my Pisces 10th house - which also happens to occupy my own Jupiter, and Jupiter rules the 9th house. This creates two more connections between my mother and my 9th/Jupiter.
🏛 My 10th also aligns with my mother’s 1st - which places my Jupiter in her 1st. A fourth connection.
🏛 Her Ascendant is actually conjunct her Moon (and her Chiron) - which lands her Ascendant in the same house as my Jupiter as well, which makes a fifth connection.
🏛 The 1st is ruled by Mars, so I check its placement in both our charts. Her Mars is also in the 1st and that falls into my Jupiter’s house, the 10th, as well. A sixth connection. (At this point, it’s freaky, lmao)
🏛 Now I go back and check where my Moon falls in her house system. It lands in her 12th. The 12th is ruled by Pisces, My Jupiter and 10th house are in Pisces. Yet another connection.
🏛 Okay, so with the amount of times it’s popped up, the 10th is obviously super important too. So, let’s check our Saturns, and her 10th.
🏛 My Saturn falls in her 2nd, which is a Venusian house, and my 11th - which Saturn rules - and is also in Aries. Interesting, because Aries rules Mars, and remember, her 1st house Mars is in my 10th.
🏛 Her Saturn is in her 3rd, which is a Mercurial house, and my 12th - a recurrence of the 12th/Pisces and of Jupiter - and is in the sign of Taurus. Interesting because Taurus rules the 2nd house and as we just saw, my Saturn is in her 2nd.
🏛 Meanwhile, her 10th house aligns with my 7th, which houses my own Mercury and Nessus. A second invocation of Venusian and Mercurial energy - but more notable is that her own Jupiter also occupies her 10th and my 7th. It’s frankly scary at this point how it all connects.
🏛 The 12th house and Pisces have both popped up a few times, along with being connected to Jupiter, so let’s go back to my 12th house - and we don’t need to check her Jupiter, since we have already stumbled across it.
🏛 My 12th house also is occupied by Ceres, another important asteroid for motherhood, specifically invoked with themes of grief. This is worth noting in correlation with her Chiron conjunct her Moon in the 1st. Grief, martyrdom, and motherhood are very tied in her natal chart and in our synastry chart.
🏛 Now, I have multiple intense aspects to back all this up - my Jupiter is square my mother’s Jupiter at 2º, my Saturn is trine her Jupiter, her Jupiter is quintile my Medium Coeli which falls in my Vedic 9th, my Descendant is conjunct her Medium Coeli, etc. It’s frankly overkill - I could list everything because there's plenty more.
🏛 Point being almost anything you can discern with this you can discern with synastry. But if you can't parse aspects yet, this is a great alternative in the meantime.
🏛 Finally, if you have major conjunctions between Rahu, Ketu, or one of your big three, check whichever house and sign the other planet rules for synastry overlays. It can be super significant and may even signify karmic energy in your dynamic from the moment you meet - or before that, even!
🏛 I have a Sun-Neptune conjunction and have 12th house synastry with not just every crush I’ve ever had, but also most notably with those who bring out the best in me. They often leave and I feel their absence intently - typical 12th house, with its theme of the hidden and of disappearance - but I cannot deny how much joy they’ve brought me and how much they bettered me.
🏛 I have a Ketu-Venus conjunction and really do have 2nd house synastry with all the people I have ever felt a soul connection with. The feeling is so comfortable and really risks luring you into complacency, ngl!
Let me know in the tags or with a message if you found any of this helpful - it affects which types of notes I go to the trouble of posting!
