So someone drew a fanart including the whole cast and it had Kari where she shouldn't chronologically be and it gave me an IDEA.

AU where Kari was always there, in some sense. Due to her connection with Homeostasis, she's able to view what's happening in her dreams (since she was home sick at the time, that's a lot of sleeping, so let's just say she was there for every episode). Since it's a dream, she couldn't be harmed or anything. But she can't interact with anyone either.

This is also how she knows who Koromon is in Ep. 21. I know she met a Koromon before the series. But Tai doesn't recognize Koromon when he first meets his partner. Kari was even younger than Tai. Magic digital god connection or not, it seems odd that she remembers and Tai doesn't. But if she saw Koromon in the dream-state, of course she'd know who he is.

This AU exists entirely for the Tai angst potential. Knowing Kari was there for stuff like SkullGreymon is just *chef's kiss*. Kari seeing Tai at his worst, but still loving and looking up to him- all while he keeps beating himself up. And would probably beat himself up worse if he knew. These two and their low self-esteem being linked like that just fascinates me.

Bonus points if Kari doesn't mention she had these experiences until like years later and just drops it casually in an unrelated conversation.

But, yeah, it’s a melancholy nightmare to say the least for most of it. Hikari always finds a way to go through so much suffering-self inflicted or otherwise.

Sickness? She got rest and a support group, a digital program goddess cheat code and a big brother looking for her.

Scared? More like if you cross me I will burn you into smoldering ashes.

In danger? Not when she becomes so emotionally stricken by the death of slimes that she gives an intense power boost to War Greymon who literally dices Machinedramon like an onion!

Lastly Takeru you got to man up. Taichi told you to protect her, not the other way around. Don’t worry he gets points and loses points as the show progresses and he comes out positive.
