Crucio (Ominis x GN! reader) HURT/COMFORT
Pairing: Ominis x reader
Warnings: whump, angst, hurt/comfort, fluff, alcohol
Word count: 3.7k
Tumblr media
Summary: When you get trapped in Salazar Slytherin’s room of torture, Ominis is forced to relive past trauma. Not being able to bear hearing the sound of your screams he insists on taking your place.
Authors note: This is the first fic I actually finished, hope you enjoy it. Might be a one shot, but I’m thinking about continuing the story.
Finally, Ominis turned around to face you. His expression softened, his mask melting away, revealing the hurricane of emotions he was struggling to hold back.
“Please let me do it. I’d rather take the pain that hear you scream. Believe me, you’ll never forget these kinds of screams. I can’t take hearing you suffer. Please, „ he pleaded. It was an impossible choice, but when you looked at him you knew what to do.
“Are you sure about this?”
“I’m sure. Not my first time, remember?”
---
“This is where she died. This is where we’ll die! I shouldn’t have listened to either of you!”  Ominis cried out, his voice unusually shrill. While you were searching for comforting things to say, Sebastian, who had been studying the door finally broke his silence. “I’m sorry about your aunt, Ominis. But I know how to get us out of here. It’s going to be difficult,” he murmured absentmindedly. Unlike his friend, the tall brunette did not seem to be bothered by the situation at all, which could only mean he had already come up with a plan.
“What do you mean you know how to get us out of here?” you asked.
“Look around. Tortured faces on the door and ‘Crucio’ etched into the stone. My guess is if we cast the Cruciatus curse the door will open. That’s why Noctua died - she had no one to cast the curse on. Ominis has the most experience with this. He should cast it. You seem to be in Ominis’ favor. Will you ask him about this?”
Knowing how insensitive Sebastian could be, you agreed and carefully approached Ominis, who was still anxiously pacing on the other side of the room. Before you could say anything, he blurted out, “I overheard you and Sebastian, and I won’t do it. The Cruciatus curse is pure torture - I would know.”
“Sebastian told me a little of what happened when you were young. It sounded as if you had no choice,” you replied, hoping he wouldn’t mind his friend sharing this with you. You still vividly remembered how badly he reacted to finding out you knew about the Undercroft. To your surprise, this time he didn’t even mention it. If anything, he seemed glad that he didn’t have to explain it to you himself.
“One always has a choice. I’m as guilty as the worst of my family. Unforgivable curses won’t work unless you really mean them. I had to want to cause pain and for that I shall never forgive myself. That spell is the reason I have no family left,” he exclaimed frantically.
“You’re not a bad person, Ominis. I know you. You are good. What happened was not your fault, do you hear me? You have to forgive yourself.”
Ominis misty grey eyes filled with tears. “Please don’t make me do it. I can’t. I won’t,” he whimpered and covered his ears with his hands, as if to block out a noise only he could hear.  “I don’t want to. Please don’t make me.”
Shocked by his reaction you immediately started apologizing. “I’m so sorry. I shouldn’t even have asked. We will figure out another way, I promise,” you assured him, softly placing your hand on his arm. Seeing him this upset rattled you, and you wanted nothing more than give him a hug, but he pulled away and sat down on the floor, cradling his head and rocking back and forth. Unsure what to do you looked at Sebastian for help. He gestured with his head to come to him. You felt awful leaving Ominis like this but obeyed his bidding.
“I’m guessing that’s a ‘no’ from Ominis. It’s up to us then. I can teach you Crucio or I can cast it on you.”
“You know how to cast Crucio? Why did you have me ask Ominis in the first place? You know how badly that spell messed him up!” you snapped at him, pointing at his friend who clearly was not doing well.
“I’m not sure I do. But I think I can cast it if I have to. It sure is a better option than dying in here,” Sebastian replied calmly. His composure was truly remarkable, and you were glad that at least one of you was keeping a cool head. Now it was your turn to do your part. You had already made the decision.
“Alright. But you must cast it. I could never bring myself to hurt you. I’m sorry.”
Sebastian nodded and you took a deep breath and closed your eyes, trying to brace yourself for what was coming next. When you opened them again the two of you exchanged a solemn look, and he pulled out his wand. Before he could open his mouth, Ominis had crossed the room, moving with the stealth and swiftness of a cat and grabbed Sebastian’s arm, forcing him to lower his wand.
“Cast it on me,” he demanded, his face an impenetrable mask.
“Ominis, no. He’ll cast it on me,” you protested but the blonde ignored you, standing his ground.
“Didn’t know you’re all so eager to be tortured,” Sebastian remarked dryly.
You recalled what Sebastian had told you earlier regarding Ominis’ experience with the curse. The thought of his family torturing him as a child, made your blood boil with anger, and now he had to go through it again.  Everything inside of you was screaming to take his place but you knew how stubborn he could be. You opened your mouth, ready to argue, but closed it again when you caught Sebastian quietly shaking his head to signal you that you should leave it alone. This way Ominis at least had some control over the situation. The tall brunette took the lead, by pointing his wand and preparing himself to cast the spell.
“Ready?” he asked, looking at Ominis grimly.
“I’m ready.”
Sebastian took a deep breath and his eyes darkened.
“Crucio.”
The second the spell hit him, Ominis groaned and doubled over in pain, his body twitching involuntarily as the curse shot through him in a bolt of cackling red light. The door seemed to feed off his pain, absorbing every single drop of it. You watched with tears in your eyes as he fell to his knees screaming out in agony. Ominis had been right. This was awful. The sounds he made vibrated through your entire body, making the hair on your neck stand up in terror.  Finally, you couldn’t take it anymore.
“Stop it, Sebastian.” you screamed hysterically, your voice breaking but he shook his head again. The door was not open yet. Not knowing what to do you threw yourself on the floor next to Ominis and took his hand, hoping it would give him some sort of comfort. His screaming had died down to a mere whimpering, which for some reason was even worse. You fought the urge to hold your ears to block out the awful sounds coming from the boy on the ground and held his hand even tighter. At last, the door started to melt away, giving way to the room behind it and Sebastian stopped the spell.
Ominis was on his side, his misty eyes staring into nothingness. “Ominis?” you asked carefully but he didn’t react. Sebastian joined you and kneeled next to his other side, checking on his friend. “I’m sorry. Are you alright?” When this too was met with silence you exchanged a worried look with Sebastian. You had both heard the horror stories of people being driven mad by the curse. “Ominis. Say something.” After another 30 seconds that felt like an eternity, he opened his mouth and whispered, “I’m fine.” Slowly, he sat up and a small sob escaped your lips. He was a mess. His face was wet with tears, his hair disheveled and robes covered in dirt. “Don’t scare us like that,” Sebastian grumbled and roughly patted his friend’s shoulder, before getting up and glancing through the doorway. “You have to see this! We made it. We found Salazar Slytherin’s scriptorium.”
Still in shock, you watched Sebastian disappear into the other room, leaving you alone with Ominis. For a moment, you sat in silence, both trying to process what just happened. “Are you really alright?” you asked, even though you could already guess the answer. He most definitely did not look okay. In fact, you had never seen him in such a state before. He was there but not really present. The confident, sassy Slytherin you had gotten to know and love was gone, his body an empty shell. It was like he was trapped in his own dimension of hell, having to relive the torture he went through as a child. He flinched when your question brought him back to reality, then slowly turned his head to face you, “Not really. You?” “Not really.”
You fell into each other’s arms, desperately holding on to each other, trying to find comfort in the warmth of the embrace. You felt his body relax against yours and leaned into him, even more. A stifled sob escaped his mouth, and he buried his head in your shoulder. Following his example, you let your tears flow freely. The sound of his screams still rang in your ears. The sheer agony in his voice was the worst thing you’ve ever heard, and you couldn’t stop replaying it in your head. You needed him as much as he needed you. His arms wrapped around you, holding on to you as if you were the only thing keeping him from drowning.
You let your fingers run through his hair and pressed your face into his neck, inhaling the sweet scent of his shampoo. Your touch seemed to have a calming effect on him, his breathing slowed down and his grip on you weakened. “You’re okay,” you murmured over and over again, like a mantra, unsure if you were saying this to soothe him or yourself. Slowly, the chaos in your head started to ebb down. It was impossible to tell if you stayed like this for minutes or hours but neither of you was ready to let go. Finally, Ominis tightened his grip on you once more before breaking away.
For a moment you looked at each other in awkward silence, both unsure what to say after the intimate moment you had just shared. “Ominis…” you started but he interrupted you. “I don’t want to talk about it. For now, let’s focus on getting out of here.”
With one swift movement he got up and elegantly offered you his hand. A gentleman as always. Glad, that he seemed to be back to his old self again, you let him help you up. After dusting himself off, he took the lead and walked towards the entrance of the scriptorium, with you following close behind. All of a sudden, your gaze fell on the pile of bones in the corner, and you froze. “What’s wrong?” Ominis asked, his voice full of concern. “Your aunt. Her…remains are right behind you.” “Oh.” You guided his hand towards the spot so that he could see it with his wand, watching his face closely for his reaction but he remained expressionless. Then he quietly asked, “Would you mind giving me a minute alone?” It broke your heart how much pain he had to endure in one single night, and you squeezed his arm reassuringly before stepping through the doorway.
When you entered the scriptorium, you were greeted by Sebastian, who seemed to be completely oblivious to what just happened. “What is taking you guys so long? Come take a look at what I found. Slytherin’s spell book. I have only browsed but it looks promising. I think this could be the key to curing Anne.” His eyes sparkled with excitement when he showed you the old dusty tome with Slytherin’s initials on the front.
“That’s great news Sebastian,” you replied, forcing yourself to give him a smile. Of course, you were happy that there was new hope for curing Anne, but the price for this book had been high and Ominis was the one who had had to pay it. Sebastian didn’t notice and enthusiastically continued talking while he showed you around the scriptorium.
“This room is amazing. I could spend hours and hours rummaging through all of these books.”
“Yeah.”
“What’s with the sour face? Ominis is fine, isn’t he?” he grumpily asked, as he turned around to look for his friend, who was nowhere to be seen.
“No. And neither am I. I want to leave. You got what you came here for.” It wasn’t your way to be so cross with him, but you were still on edge and desperately wanted to get away from this place, that was practically vibrating with dark magic.
Sebastian looked at you with a mixture of confusion and defiance. “You can’t be serious? There is still so much to explore.” You let out a deep sigh and prepared to argue, when Ominis appeared at the foot of the stairs, joining in on the conversation. “I agree. Let’s get out of here.” His voice was calm and authoritative, leaving no room for debate. In one hand, he held his wand, the other was clutching a gigantic vase. You furrowed your brows in confusion before you realized what he had been doing while you and Sebastian had been talking. “Is that…?”
“I am going to take her with me. Give her a proper burial.”
Finally, understanding dawned in Sebastian’s face and he gave in, waiting for you to take the vase from Ominis before gesturing to follow him. The exit was hidden in an eerie looking statue of Salazar Slytherin’s face with a snake coming out of its mouth. Sebastian stepped forward and tapped the snake’s head with his wand, causing the statue to rotate and reveal a platform of sorts. “After you.” A few minutes later, when all of you were back in the Slytherin dungeon, Sebastian spoke up. “About your aunt Ominis -”
“Please, Sebastian. All I want is for you to swear never to engage in anything to do with dark magic ever again. You almost got us all killed tonight, with your stupid obsession with the scriptorium.”
“We are so close to curing Anne. I found Slytherin’s spell book in the scriptorium, and I think I saw something that could be useful….”
Ominis face crumpled with pain and disappointment. His best friend truly did not care about anything other than his search for a cure. He turned away from Sebastian, who was still rambling on about some spell he had found. When he noticed that Ominis wasn’t listening he snapped at him, “Why are you not happy for me? I thought you cared about my sister.”
After a long, tiring night, you’d had enough of his selfish behavior and stepped in.
„I know how important finding a cure for Anne is to you, but right now this is about Ominis. We put him through hell tonight, do you understand that? He has every right to be angry at you. You keep putting yourself before everyone else and completely ignore the wreckage you leave in your path.”
Sebastian glared at you, ready to retaliate. “Why isn’t he angry at you then? After all, you convinced him to go in there.”
“I’m sure he is, and he is right to be. Tonight was a mistake. Now take this and find a place to hide it for tonight. It’s the least you can do. Tomorrow we will decide what to do with it. I’m taking Ominis home.” You handed him the vase with Noctua’s remains and held his angry gaze.
“He can find his own way back to the dorms you know. He’s not helpless.”
“Of course he can. I just don’t want him to be alone right now.”
With that you turned around and demonstratively took Ominis hand, interlocking your fingers with his. “Let’s go.” You felt his surprise, but he went along with it and didn’t pull away. Usually, he hated it when people tried to help him in any sort of way, and you almost expected him to snap at you but tonight he was tame as a kitten, letting you lead him down the corridor, away from a fuming Sebastian. He too seemed to be too tired to argue. The sound of your steps echoed through the empty corridors as you walked in silence. When you stopped in front of the entrance of the Slytherin dorms, you waited for him to take charge and decide whether or not he wanted to invite you into their common room. He didn’t let go of your hand when he spoke the password and the gigantic snake revealed the door. After a few seconds of hesitation, he stepped forward, gently pulling you with him and you followed.
You had been here quite a few times with Sebastian, still the elegance and grandeur of the Slytherin common room never ceased to amaze you. The room was filled with eerie greenish light leaking from the windows showing the depths of the black lake. The only sound was the gentle cackle of wood being devoured by the flames. You followed Ominis, or rather let him guide you, to a sofa right in front of the big windows that faced the water. Only then did he let go of your hand and slumped into the soft pillows. You awkwardly waited a few moments before sitting down yourself. Ominis rubbed his face and sighed wearily, “I don’t need you to stand up for me.”
“I know. I just wanted to make it clear to him how wrong his behavior was tonight. I’m so sorry I dragged you into this. I should have never asked you to show us the entrance. This is my fault.”
“I appreciate that. I have already forgiven you. Everybody makes mistakes.”
You raised an eyebrow, knowing full well that Ominis was usually not one to hold back his anger when someone screwed up. His tongue was as sharp as his wits and not something to be messed with, as you knew from firsthand experience. Tonight, he was oddly calm, it was almost unsettling.
“Yeah, but mine almost got us killed.”
“You know me. I’m a thrill seeker,” he replied dryly, making you snort with laughter. Amused by this, Ominis too started giggling and you laughed even harder. It probably was the adrenaline, but you could not stop laughing, both of you cackling hysterically like maniacs. It took you some time to calm down, but the laughter had helped dissolve some of the stress and you felt a little better.
“Glad you have your sense of humor back. Seriously though, are you going to be okay?” you asked solemnly.
“Don’t worry about me.”
“Of course I worry about you, silly. You have been through a lot tonight.”
“Please don’t. I can’t…I can’t talk about it,” he whispered, and his entire body stiffened. Trying to hide how much this affected him he dug his nails into the palms of his trembling hands and avoided your gaze.
“That’s alright. Just know, if you do need to talk, I’m here for you,” you replied softly and placed a hand on his outstretched leg. By now you understood that physical touch had a calming effect on him. It was odd, since he was a very withdrawn person, not like Sebastian, who was rather touchy and comfortable with physical proximity. Ominis was a proper gentleman, always keeping his distance, never intruding your personal space. Yet tonight he really seemed to need the intimacy of human touch.
“There should be some firewhiskey in the globe behind us, would you mind getting it?”
“Are you trying to get me drunk?”
“I’m inviting you to join me for a nightcap.”
“Well, if you put it like that, how could I resist?” you chuckled and got up.
As promised, when you opened the globe, you found an almost full bottle of firewhiskey. You waved the bottle in the air letting the liquid slosh loudly against the glass, to let him know about your find and returned to the sofa, but it was empty. Ominis had made himself comfortable on the floor in front of it, resting his arms on the seat. Following his example, you sat down next to him on the soft carpet and handed him the bottle. He took a deep swig of the bronze liquid and passed it on to you. You took a small sip and coughed, quickly handing it back to Ominis. After another few sips he broke the silence.
“Why are you so kind to me?”
“Because I care about you. Is that so hard to believe?”
“Yes.”
Too tired to talk, you reached for his hand, and he took it. The way his fingers wrapped around yours ever so gently felt like the most natural thing in the world and you felt the urge to never let go of his hand again. For a while you sat in silence, quietly passing the whiskey back and forth, then Ominis spoke up again.
“You know why I like to sit here so much?” He paused for a moment to look at you, waiting for you to meet his gaze. For a moment you got lost in the reflection of the lake in his milky grey eyes. “Because I like the way, the water breaks the light. I can see light and shadow, you know? When I watch the lake, the light is dancing.”
“That sounds beautiful. Tell me about it.”
“It dances with the rhythm of the waves. It’s so soothing it’s like listening to a lullaby. Sometimes, when it’s stormy it gets really fast and erratic, it’s like I can see the thunderstorm.”
Slowly but surely the alcohol was taking effect and he was struggling to stay awake. He rested his head on your shoulder and asked, “Can we just sit here and watch them for a while?" already starting to slur his words a little.
“Ominis?”
“Mhm?”
“Never scare me like that again.”
Instead of answering he nestled his face into your neck and sighed. You rested your head on his and listened to his breathing slow down as he started to fall asleep, still not letting go of your hand. You smiled at his cute little snores before you too drifted off to sleep.

The Room of Reconciliation
Ominis x MC
Summary - Tensions had been high between the Slytherin Trio shortly after the Undercroft Catastrophe.
Warnings - Angst into Comfort, Evelyn mom mentioned right at the beginning (Fluff if you’re sick of it but I’m continuing to add my boi into every square inch of that game (someone mentioned this to me ages ago I’m so sorry I lost who it was))
Word Count - 2928
~
She’d overreacted. She knew that.
Crying because a boy had shouted at her. Grow Up, Evelyn.
Make your mother proud.
Of course, that was the reason she was in such a foul mood that day in the first place. And why she was so easily brought to tears.
The day Ominis had shouted at her for entering the Undercroft was her mother’s birthday. A sensitive day that had started off terribly in it own right.
She’d fell up the stairs leading out of the Common Room. Missed Breakfast. Gotten into trouble because of Garreth, again. And spent most of her day without her wand after forgetting it in her bedside table. Getting used to carrying the thing around hadn’t quite become second nature yet.
So when Sebastian approached her in the late afternoon, a cheeky smile and a twinkle in his eye, she didn’t think twice to follow him. And when he mentioned, repeatedly, that it was Ominis’ place, something Ominis had shown him…it hadn’t occurred to her to refuse, and perhaps ask Ominis for his permission beforehand.
She simply followed.
And she had a blast.
Sebastian was right, there was something about that spell that was addictive. Cathartic.
It wasn’t until Ominis’ sharp authoritative tone cut through her reverie that she snapped. And the whole day just became too much.
And she hadn’t spoken to him since.
It had been a week.
Pretty impressive considering they shared a Common Room, multiple classes and a best friend.
It wasn’t like she actively ignored him. More that she felt an intense guilt every time she looked at him. Everytime his milky eyes settled over her, she just saw…betrayal.
Especially with Professor Weasley showing her the Room of Requirement the very next day. She didn’t even need the Undercroft. She hadn’t used it once. Whether that made her presence there in the first place any better she didn’t know.
But spending no time in the Undercroft, hours holed away in Room of Requirement and daily task and chores occupying any time available after that, Evelyn had become…lonely.
Sebastian had become a little…manic. Shortly after the Undercroft incident, Sebastian invited Evelyn to visit his family. Whether it was to cheer Anne up by meeting someone new, or cheer Evelyn up by taking her mind off Ominis, she wasn’t sure.
Either way it hadn’t worked.
Sebastian’s home life just made her feel…empty. The confrontation with Solomon had left her both angry and yet incredibly sad. Anne was stuck amongst this in immense pain. Sebastian felt helpless and Solomon was clearly an unfit guardian for two teenagers he neither wanted nor seemingly cared about.
She couldn’t exactly blame Sebastian for his behaviour. But she had to admit, the far off unfocused gaze and sudden downturn of his lips was jarring. Just the week before, he asked her to learn unsanctioned spells and blast braziers until they were both rosy cheeked and giggling.
Now she could barely get a chuckle out of him.
In the space of a week, she’d lost her closest friends in this new mysterious world. If she didn’t have Imelda and her constant abrasive form of affection, Evelyn very well may have lost it. As it stood she just became a husk, trudging from class to class, trail to trail, chore to chore. Barely taking in her environment as she did.
Which explains how she come crashing into Ominis after leaving the Charms Classroom.
Because he had become the same.
His wand even alerted him to the presence coming from the classroom. It notified him of their trajectory all the way until it came fumbling into him.
He just ignored it.
Because he didn’t care.
Anne was gone, he was losing Sebastian and he’d pushed Evelyn away. He, too, was a husk.
“Watch where you’re-” Ominis snapped, his wand falling to the floor with a clatter. His instant aggression and plastered on sneer faltered when he heard the tiny exhale forced from her chest and the unmistakable scent of Roses. “…Evelyn”
“…Ominis…” she breathed. A moment of stunned silence fell over them before she blinked herself back to reality. His wand rolled towards her, bumping against her shoe as she knelt to retrieve it.
Surely it was the least she could do.
She extended her hands towards him, his wand still blinking somehow as Ominis reached to take it back.
“Thank you…” he said softly, his eyes holding a deep sadness behind them and she wondered why. But, as he so aptly pointed out, they weren’t friends, so she didn’t have the right to ask what was wrong
“You’re Welcome…” She replied sheepishly with an equally pained expression.
An awkward, heart-achingly long silence stretched before them as she stared at the ground. His feet were a much safer location to stare than the piercing judgemental wells of his eyes. Neither made any move to leave, though neither said anything either. Both of them choosing to wallow in this sickening pit of longing and despair.
No sense in attempting to hide away from the negativity. It only bled into their everyday life, both becoming a shell of their former selves. Though many hadn’t seen this side of Evelyn, the cold hard faced figure. They’d only seen her chipper almost gleeful persona as she flitted around. And why wouldn’t she be happy? She’d discovered magic and all the wonders that that held. She’d made friends she didn’t even know existed a few months ago.
And yet…
With this bump in the road, everything she had pushed deep down came bubbling to the surface like one of Garreth’s failed concoctions.
Mr Osrics death, Ranrok, Rookwood, Goblin Rebellions, Annes Curse…
Now she wears them on her sleeve, a near constant frown etched into her features.
Though Ominis’ was a regular occurrence. Whether it was Sebastian winding him up or his family making themselves known, he’d earned a reputation for being stoic and unfeeling.
In actuality, Ominis felt things probably more than most. He was just better at hiding it.
They both were…
The sounds of Evelyn running and crying from him had eaten away at him over the last week. And he found himself now in an uncomfortable position of admitting fault and asking for forgiveness.
“I’m sorry” They said in unison, causing them both to laugh softly and the tension to shatter into a thousand glorious little pieces.
“Please…allow me to go first” Ominis said with a gentle smile and hands raised in surrender. He mulled the words over in his mind before he spoke. “…You shouldn’t have to apologise. At all. It was Sebastian I was angry at and you, unfortunately, just happened to be in my line of sight…” he chuckled softly, almost to himself “…so to speak”
“But…”
“No. I shan’t hear it. I said-” a deep regretful sigh left his chest “…I said some, frankly, horrible things to you. And my pride got in the way of apologising”
His posture was always bad. But there was something about the slouch of his shoulders, the hunch of his back, that looked like he was trying to shrink away from everything. Like he was readying for her to reject him entirely.
“Still though…That place was special to you and now it’s…less so. Because of me…” the mournful tone of her voice was immediately recognisable to Ominis.
Though he wasn’t certain of what she looked like, he had a rough idea from what Sebastian had told him and what was silhouetted from his wand. He could imagine her upturned brows, the sad tug of her lips. Then he remembered her little sobs as she ran from the Undercroft and he could almost see the tears breaching her lashes.
“Nonsense…” he whispered, tormented by his own mental image of her “…it’s not any less special because you know of it. In fact…”
Careful, now
“I was planning on showing you the Undercroft myself. I was simply…frustrated Sebastian got there before me” the lopsided way he smiled was endearing and she found herself smiling dreamily up at him, despite his inability to actually see it.
“Really?”
“Yes. I wanted to show you because you’re my friend, not just Sebastians” As he took back the words he cut her so deeply with before, he felt the sting of them on his tongue.
“I must say…that is a relief to hear. I was afraid I’d…never mind. I’m just sorry any of this happened” she said quickly, hoping to get the words out before he cut her off, explaining that she needn’t apologise.
“I’m sorry I spoke to you in the manner I did. It was rude and childish. And I certainly should’ve have threatened you with expulsion…” Ominis shook his head as though he was retroactively disappointed in his own actions.
“No, it’s fine. I understand where you were coming from. I’m-“
“If you apologise again I will speak to Professor Black about having you removed from the premises…” his lopsided smile morphed to a smirk, pulled wide across his cheeks. He chuckled when he heard her close her mouth, the distinct little huff she exhaled from her nose clear to him as she pouted.
She often did this. A little quirk he’d known many people do when they showed dissatisfaction but hers was…unique. The huff sounded almost like a laugh, a humourless and pouty thing that bought endless joy when he teased her.
“How about you stop apologising and we try to move on? If you would like to, of course” He offered a hand outstretched to her. He wasn’t even really sure why. Just that a part of him wanted to feel her again, and this was the most natural way he could think of.
That’s when her cool fingertips grazed across his palm and shook his hand in the daintiest of hand shakes he had ever experienced.
Difficult to imagine this was the same girl who had effortlessly defended Hogsmeade against a troll. And a myriad of other pointless and dangerous tasks appointed to her.
“I’d like that…” her gentle pleasing tone sang out from below him.
The moment she agreed, his whole demeanour shifted. He stood a little straighter, shoulders more square and yet somehow he looked more…relaxed.
“I’d like that too” he said more relived than she thought he would be.
“I do have a way to make it up to you though” she offered as her finger slipped from his grasp, moving over to weave her fingers amongst his. She tugged on his hand but he remained stationary. His fingers did indeed weave with hers but he stood steadfast as a curious smile tugged at his lips.
“You don’t have to make anything up to me” he borderline whispered. His voice was always soft but this was new. Gentle in a way he’d never shown previously.
“Please? It would make me feel better besides…it offers you an avenue away from Sebastian”
Upon hearing those words Ominis’ brow raised with boyish curiosity.
He loved Sebastian, he really did…
But
The near constant questioning of his families knick knacks, hidden knowledge and…gods he wished he’d never mentioned that damned Scriptorium. Just the mere utterance of Salazar Slytherin had Sebastian foaming at the mouth and every single conversation thereafter had been consumed by it. No longer did they indulge in casual chatter. No more quidditch theories. No more fiction recommendations. No more Sebastian.
And with sharing a dorm, the Undercroft and most classes…Ominis had been left with little peace.
“Oh? I suppose I can hear you out…” Ominis asked with just the slightest edge of guilt. “…How were you planning on making this up to me?”
Evelyn grinned upon seeing the usual teasing smirk pull across his lips.
“It’s easier if I show you…” she said tugging on his arm playfully once again, only this time…he relented, taking a few steps forward with a roll of his eyes.
“Lead the way…”
~
Thankfully, they stumbled into each other not far from their destination. Though she did have to convince him she wasn’t leading him to his death and planned on pushing him off the Astrology Tower. He laughed softly at her faux outrage, offering her arm to guide him up the few stairs leading towards that infamous ogre tapestry.
They stood for a moment in awkward silence.
Not because it was awkward between them, but because the door to the Room of Requirement did not show itself. She worried for a moment that the sentient room knew she was trying to show someone and it refused or that perhaps their needs were different and it didn’t know how to differentiate between the two.
“It’s here…” she muttered desperately, releasing his arm and beginning to pace up and down the little empty hallway.
The sounds of a rather lively Astrology class rang down the wooden staircase ahead of them and Ominis shook his head with a small laugh.
He had a near exact copy of Hogwarts’ complicated and winding hallways in his mind. There was nothing here. Just an old dusty tapestry and the Astrology Tower.
The smell of musk and the distant sounds of that rambunctious class of third years was evidence of that. Until…
A slight rubble and crackle of stone turned his attention toward the blank wall ahead of them. He placed his hand against the stone, cautiously. The grinding of stone against stone didn’t sound the safest and yet it moved harmlessly under his palm, twisting and transfiguring to a warm wood and cool metal.
Of course
“You found the Room of Requirement?” Ominis grinned, turning his head towards the buzzing and ecstatic Evelyn behind him.
“Found is a strong word…” she said, the joy in her voice unmistakeable “…Professor Weasley instructed me to look here and it presented itself to me”
She took his hand, the one not pressed curiously to the wall and gently guided him inside the Room.
Ominis felt a strange shift in the atmosphere as he stepped past the threshold. Neither out in the open, nor indoors. The air felt…artificial. Stagnant. Generated in some way. Not entirely unpleasant.
A welcoming warmth wrapped around him as Evelyn brought him into a larger room. Not huge. Roughly the same size as the dorms but all for her. For them.
She bought him around the Room, narrating along as she did.
“There’s a fireplace and settees. Bookcases. This here leads to where I’ve been practising spells and potions and…well…everything. But this…”
She gently turned him and guided him to another room. Smaller and cooler.
“…I left this for you.”
Ominis stepped away from her and into ‘His’ room. His wand alerted him to the snug way the walls tapered in around them, the narrow walkway around a huge plush bed that took up almost the entire room.
He had been struggling to sleep…
“I found it shortly after Sebastian showed me the Undercroft. I felt so guilty, I’ve been coming here instead. Only I know about it…in this form at least”
“It’s perfect…” Ominis finally spoke, running his hand along the bed runner with a gentle smile and a voice filled with gratitude and relief.
He fought everything inside him telling him to pull her into a warm embrace. They didn’t have that kind of relationship, as much as he wanted to. As much as he craved her touch. He settled for something little, reaching out to her arm, squeezing affectionately before letting his fingers drop to hers. And she reciprocated, her own lazily linking with his.
“We can share this space…” she whispered “…we could arrange it so we have our own time to ourselves. Maybe putting a tie on the door handle if we don’t want to be disturbed…” she laughed softly, earning a playful rise of Ominis’ brows.
“…I’d like that. Thank you”
“It’s okay…” she shrugged, Ominis’ fingers tightening somewhat as her arm accidentally pulled her from his grasp “…I took away your safe haven, it’s only fair I replace it”
Ominis sighed sharply, turning and holding Evelyn by her cheeks.
“You did not take away anything…” he said with a strange authority, like how a father might scold a child when they aren’t listening “…I acted like a brute. You did nothing wrong”
He felt her lean into his hand slightly and her cheek puff out as she smiled sheepishly.
And…
Was that a mole he could feel beneath his palm?
He could…see her!
He dropped his hands from her face, blinking rapidly to rid images of her from his head.
If he dwelled on them for too long he would want to see her completely. And he told himself not to get that close to too many people.
Gods, he hated himself for making that rule!
Oh, actually, I don’t need to know what anyone looks like. If I’ve known them for two years then they are worthy of my time but before that…no.
Stupid angsty little child…
“I’ll leave you to it then…” Evelyn chirped before she turned to leave his domain.
She didn’t get far before his cold hand wrapped around her wrist.
“Before you go…I wanted to say…” he paused momentarily, his lips parted as the words got stuck in his throat. His hesitation turned to nerves as he felt her turn to him completely. Her full attention, on him “…Evelyn, with everything going on; Sebastian, our disagreement, you disappearing to Merlin’s knows where…I just wanted to say I missed you”
A beat of silence hung in the air as Evelyn smiled and stopped herself from jumping into his arms.
“I missed you too…”

Overwhelmed mom
I'm losing it..I have been up since two this morning. Since I had to work today. Come back to my kids. Also not feeling well. Could barely keep my eyes open. Tylenol does nothing.
Overwhelmed mom. Crying. I can't even keep my emotions in check right now.
I've done this before. Why can't I just do it again like I used to? Oh I know...
This is why...I seek comfort from characters.
I need a vacation.

In the shadow of the past (Ominis x GN! reader)
Fluff with a dash of trauma
Pairing: Ominis x reader
Warnings: angst, fluff, hurt/comfort, PTSD, abusive family
Word count: 3.6k
Tumblr media
Summary: Ominis has decided to inform his family about the gruelling discovery you made in Slytherins scriptorium and has to return to the Gaunt estate for his aunts funeral for the first time in years. You and Sebastian accompany him for moral support.
“I don’t understand why you are not running. I’m a mess, in case you haven’t noticed,” Ominis broke the silence.
“Maybe I like your mess.”
“You will grow tired of it. Everybody does.”
“Never.”
He lifted his head, his cloudy grey eyes staring right into your soul and whispered, “Don’t make promises you can’t keep.”
Authors note: This is part two to my first fic ‘Crucio’. Nobody asked for it but I’m having too much fun with this right now.
Part 1
“What have we here?,”  a dark voice growled and tore you from your sleep. Startled, you opened your eyes and blinked a few times to get them to focus. The first thing you saw was water. Your head was still clouded from the alcohol, and it took you a few seconds to remember where you were. Ominis was still fast asleep, snoring softly against your shoulder.
Finally, your gaze fell on a pair of legs, belonging to a fuming Professor Sharp. Next to him a Slytherin prefect was gloating, looking very satisfied with himself. No doubt he was the one who had told on you. Ominis who was not quite awake yet, nestled his face deeper into your neck. You gave him a gentle nudge, your cheeks already burning under the scathing looks of Professor Sharp and the wide grin of the Slytherin prefect. Still half asleep he raised a hand to your face, gently tracing your features. Finally, his brain figured out what was happening, and he shot up, his head painfully slamming into your chin. The prefect seemed to be amused by all of this, Professor Sharp, not so much. “Mr. Gaunt, I certainly did not expect this sort of behavior from you.” Now it was Ominis’ turn to blush. “It’s not what it looks like,” you protested.
“So Mr. Gaunt did not bring a student from another house into the Slytherin common room and the two of you did not consume illegal substances?”
“Maybe it’s a little what it looks like.”
“You have no idea, how much trouble you’re in. Now, where is the third troublemaker? I heard Mr. Sallow was not in his bed either.”
You looked at Ominis,, genuinely puzzled about where Sebastian could have been all night, and had to suppress a smile. His hair stuck to one side of his head, and he still looked sleepy and a bit confused. As if he had heard you talk about him, Sebastian strolled through the door, stopping dead in his tracks when he saw Professor Sharp, waiting for him with crossed arms. “Mr. Sallow, how kind of you to join us. And where were you, if not at this private party with your usual partners in crime?”
Sebastian stared at Sharp in confusion, before his gaze fell to the spilled whiskey on the floor, then to the sofa. You scrambled to your feet, pulling Ominis up with you. Sebastian raised his eyebrows in surprise, looking positively flabbergasted. You gave him an awkward little wave an Ominis buried his face in his hand. “Now that you’re all here and awake you can get cleaned up and go to the great hall. I will pick you up after breakfast and bring you to the headmaster’s office. Professor Black will know what to do with you.”
Sharp insisted on escorting you out of the Slytherin common room and you lowered your head as you followed him, feeling the looks of the other students burning into your back. You could already hear them chatter excitedly and sighed. This was going to be a long day. Undoubtedly this would be spun into some sort of gossip story by breakfast.
Your instincts proved to be right. When you entered the great hall, half of the school had already heard what had happened, or at least some version of it. Too tired to engage in any of this childish behavior you chose to ignore it and made your way to the Slytherin table, fully aware that everyone was watching you. Sebastian quickly moved his plate to make space for you between him and Ominis, smiling at you mischievously. You knew exactly what he was up to and ignored him, demonstratively piling food on your plate.
“What exactly where you two doing in the common room?” he finally blurted out, and half of the table looked at you, not even trying to hide that they were listening.
“What did it look like? We got drunk and fell asleep on the floor. Where were you all night?”
Sebastian lowered his voice to make sure the others did not hear this part of the conversation and replied, “In the Undercroft, studying the journal.” Then he turned to his friend, “You’re awfully quiet Ominis. Are you still mad at me?”
“As a matter of fact, yes,” Ominis replied coldly.
“What do I have to do to get you to forgive me? Get you drunk and sleep with you?” Sebastian teased and gave you another mischievous grin. You rammed your elbows into his ribs. Hard.  The tall Slytherin gasped in surprise and doubled over in pain, muttering curses under his breath. You finished your breakfast in silence and were almost relieved when Professor Sharp came to your table to pick you up. The three of you followed him wordlessly to the headmaster’s office, where he left you at the foot of the phoenix statue. Finally, Ominis spoke up, “Let me handle Professor Black. Just stay here.” You watched him walk up the stairs and turned to Sebastian for an explanation.
“He is going to use his name to get us out of trouble. Black is a close friend of the House of Gaunt, especially Ominis’ father. He may not be on speaking terms with his family, but he is never hesitant to exploit his status.” The way he said it made you think this was not the first time Ominis had gotten them out of trouble that way. For some reason, this left a bitter taste in your mouth, especially after what had happened last night the two of you certainly did not deserve Ominis protecting you from the consequences of your actions.
After half an hour Ominis emerged from the office, his face expressionless. “All done. We’re free to go. He’s not even going to take away housepoints from us.”
Both of you stared at him in disbelief. Something was not right about this. Black was not exactly lenient when it came to breaking school rules. Even Sebastian could not believe it. “What did you do?”
Ominis face was unreadable. “I guess you’ll see soon enough.”
-------------------------------
The rest of the morning went by relatively quickly. Divination was boring as always and you struggled to stay awake but at least it gave you time to recover a little from last night’s events. You met Ominis and Sebastian again in third period – potions class with Sharp. Luckily the Professor did not bring up this morning’s events. Whatever bargain Ominis had struck with the headmaster was sure effective. He still had not told you what exactly he had come up with to get you out of trouble, in fact he had barely spoken a word with you the entire day. You understood how overwhelming the past 12 hours must have been for him, but a part of you was scared he acted like this because of the gossip and Sebastian’s stupid comment at breakfast.
After class, the three of you left together to get lunch. As soon as you stepped outside of the classroom you immediately noticed the tall blonde woman on the other side of the corridor. You had never seen her before, but she looked oddly familiar. Before you could figure out what was going on she walked straight towards you. Sebastian gave you a nudge and you looked at Ominis, who had stopped dead in his tracks, his entire body alert.
“Mother.”
“Professor Black informed us about your find. Your father is retrieving the remains from the Undercroft, and you are going to come home with us. Tomorrow we will hold a funeral for Noctua,” the woman declared cooly, not even bothering to look at Sebastian and you.
Your jaw dropped when you finally connected the dots. Ominis had told the headmaster the truth, or at least a part of it, knowing it would mean having to see his family again. It was painful to watch how his entire demeanor changed and he retreated into himself more and more under the cold gaze of his mother. Finally, he regained his composure and replied, “If I must go, I want to extend the invitation to my friends. They were the ones who helped me find her. It would only be right.” His voice was as cold as hers, his face expressionless.
Her icy blue stare shifted to you for a moment and her lips curled in disapproval. “A half-blood? I expected better than this,” she sneered, shooting you another dirty look.
“An honor to meet you Mrs. Gaunt,” you retorted, forcing yourself to give her a polite smile. Right now, your hurt ego was insignificant, it was important to make a good impression, or Ominis would have to face his family alone. Sebastian immediately picked up on what you were doing and did the same.
“At least they are well mannered, I suppose. Alright. Your friends are invited to stay with us for tonight as well. Go pack your things. We leave in 20 minutes.”
With that she turned around and walked away, her steps echoing through the empty corridor. As soon as she was out of sight, Ominis sighed deeply. “Hope you didn’t have any plans for tonight.”
----------------
The Gaunt estate was like nothing you had ever seen before. You had heard that the Gaunts were practically wizarding world royalty, but only now did you understand what that meant. Growing up in a middle-class household you marveled at the gardens, that were really the size of a park, and the stables – they had their own stables for Merlin’s sake. Sebastian too was rendered speechless by the opulence flaunted in your faces. The only one indifferent to all of this was Ominis. His entire posture had changed now that he was back at his family home. He held himself with aristocratic elegance, careful not to let his guard down for even a second. You had caught some glimpses of his upbringing at Hogwarts, but never seen him like this. It was like he was an entirely different person, but you had to admit, nobility looked good on him.
The Gaunts had invited you to dinner, and you were led into a lavishly appointed dining room, by one of their human servants where Ominis’ mother was already waiting. Shortly after you were joined by his siblings Marvolo and Metis and finally Mr. Gaunt himself. You felt Ominis flinch next to you when his father entered the room. Even you could sense the dark presence that seemed to radiate from Erebus Gaunt when his gaze moved from his son over to you and Sebastian.
“So tell us, son, what did you find in the scriptorium? It must have been so exhilarating, uncovering the secrets of our great ancestor Salazar Slytherin. We want to hear everything about it,” he asked, his cold voice cutting through the silence like a knife.
“I wish I’d never gone there. It was horrible,” Ominis replied quietly, his entire body turning rigid under the probing look of his father.
“Come on now, you have to give us something. We are dying to know,” Marvolo joined in. For a moment you sat in awkward silence as his entire family stared at him in anticipation.
“I’d rather not talk about it.”
You gave Sebastian a subtle nudge, and he stepped in. “Maybe Ominis is not the right person to ask, he didn’t actually see the scriptorium. I could tell you about it if you’re interested.”
“Go ahead, don’t keep us waiting, boy.”
Sebastian was eager to tell them about your adventure and Ominis exhaled shakily when his family’s attention shifted to his friend. You gently touched his leg with yours, to let him know he was not alone in this. He relaxed a little and leaned into your touch for a moment before pulling away. When Sebastian finished his description of the scriptorium, Ominis’ father smiled contently, “Oh, what an exciting story. I am so glad Ominis has friends who push him to explore his family history. Maybe someday you will be ready to accept what it means to be a Gaunt after all.”
“My views on the dark arts haven’t changed, if that’s what you’re referring to, father.” An unsettling silence fell over the room.
“Let’s not talk about that,” Metis tried to diffuse the situation, but it was too late. Erebus had gotten up from his chair and slammed his fist on the table with so much force that his wine glass fell over, spilling its contents on the white tablecloth. You shuddered under the disgusted glare he gave his son. His wrath vibrated through the room, and it scared you to think what he was capable of. Everyone at the table held their breaths, waiting for Erebus’ next move. Ominis had frozen next you, seemingly expecting his father to lash out and punish him. Finally, Mr. Gaunt forcefully pulled back his chair and left the room without another word. Ominis’ mother was the first to break the silence.
“Well, I suppose it’s late anyway. Ominis please show our guests to their chambers. I’ve had the house elf prepare two of the guest rooms in the west wing.”
“Certainly.” Ominis gave his mother a respectful nod and stiffly got up from the table, gesturing you to follow him.
As soon as you had left the room Ominis collapsed into himself, his hands shaking uncontrollably. He closed his eyes for a moment and clenched his fists, as he tried to get a hold of himself. After what you had just witnessed you could imagine what his childhood must have been like having Erebus Gaunt as a father. Even Sebastian looked worried, his voice unusually soft when he asked, “Are you sure you want to stay here?”
Ominis gave you a pained smile and straightened his back. “It’s only one night. I’ll survive. Now come on, I’ll show you to your rooms.”
----------------------------
A few hours later you woke up feeling parched. A quick glance at the clock informed you that it was three in the morning. After lying awake for another half an hour or so, you decided to go find a bathroom and quietly slipped out of your room. You wandered around the mansion, trying to remember which of the many doors was the right one when suddenly a figure emerged from the shadows, making you jump.
“Merlin’s beard! Ominis, you scared me half to death. What are you doing here?”
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you.”
“Are you alright?” you asked, assuming his nightly walk had something to do with what had happened at dinner. When he moved closer you could see that his nightshirt clung to his body, and his hair was damp with sweat.
“I can’t sleep. Night terrors. Things I thought I had buried ages ago… let’s just say everything that happened in the last 24 hours have brought it to the surface. Or maybe it’s just being in this godforsaken house. I don’t know. I can’t think straight,” he murmured and tiredly rubbed his face.
“I’m sorry. I cannot even imagine what you must be going through right now.”
“Looks like it’s going to be another sleepless night,” he sighed, before continuing timidly, “Would you like to keep me company?”
“Of course. Where do keep the whiskey around here?” you teased, and a little smile formed on his lips. Instead of answering, he signaled you to follow him. You were surprised with how much ease he navigated around the house without his wand, even after not having been here in such a long time. Your journey came to an abrupt halt in front of a half-open door, and Ominis paused for second before pushing it open, revealing the dimly lit room behind it. You glanced through the doorframe at a neatly arranged bedroom, centered around a massive four-poster bed with emerald green velvet drapes.
“You can look around if you want to,” he mumbled, looking a bit nervous all of a sudden. You let your eyes wander around the room, trying to take in everything. The bed and furniture were crafted out of dark, solid wood and bore the Gaunt family crest. On the wall next to the window, a painting caught your eye, and you moved closer to investigate. It was a family portrait of the Gaunts, and you couldn’t resist searching for Ominis face, to see what he had looked like when he was younger.  Meanwhile, Ominis had made himself comfortable on the bed, patiently waiting for you to satisfy your curiosity. When you finally flopped down next to him, he asked, “Did you find anything interesting?”
“Not really. I can tell you haven’t lived here in a while. How long has it been?”
“Five, six years? I don’t know. I didn’t plan on ever coming back.”
“I’m sorry.”
“I’m glad that you came, both of you I mean. Sebastian has my parents wrapped around his little finger and you… I’m just glad you are here too.”
A long silence followed, and you were suddenly very aware of how close you were, mere inches apart, close enough to feel the warmth of his body. Your heart started racing at the thought of this. Knowing how good Ominis was at picking up these sorts of cues, you tried to force yourself to calm down. The air was thick with tension, and you frantically tried to think of something to say. Finally, he took a deep breath, mustering up all of his courage and blurted out, “I liked waking up next to you today.”
“Me too,” you replied timidly.
After another short pause he continued, “I also liked this.”  He took your hand, interlocking his fingers with yours. Instead of answering you pulled him into your arms and wrapped your body around him. For a while, neither of you said anything and you relished in the intimacy of the moment. Then he gently lifted his hand to your face, and traced your features, exploring every inch of it. His touch was light as a feather, his fingers barely brushing against your skin, and you trembled with pleasure when he moved down your neck, towards your clavicle. The flickering light of a candle painted Ominis’ face with dancing shadows, and you absentmindedly stroked his hair, gently twirling it in your fingers. Seeing his face soften as he let down his guard made your heart soar and you would have been completely content admiring him in silence for another few hours, learning the constellations of his beauty marks and exploring the galaxies in the depth of his eyes.
“I don’t understand why you are not running. I’m a mess, in case you haven’t noticed,” Ominis broke the silence, and you stopped playing with his hair, to look at him.
“Maybe I like your mess.”
“You will grow tired of it. Everybody does.”
“Never.”
He lifted his head, his cloudy grey eyes staring right into your soul and whispered, “Don’t make promises you can’t keep.”
You wanted to assure him but couldn't find the words, and even if you did there was little chance, he would believe you. Instead, you gently cupped his face in your hands and placed a soft kiss on his slightly parted lips. Ominis’ eyes widened in surprise, and he pulled away for a moment. Then he placed a hand against your neck, his thumb caressing your jawbone. You held your breath in anticipation, electricity shooting through your body when he leaned in, and his lips crashed against yours.
The vehemence of his kiss took your breath away. You had expected him to be gentle and coy, but he pressed his lips against yours with the desperation of a drowning man. He didn’t just want you, he needed you. Your body responded to his touch instinctively, and you deepened the kiss, passionately grabbing the collar of his shirt. Ominis smiled against your lips when he pulled away. “Easy there.”  You leaned your forehead against his and closed your eyes for a moment, trying to catch your breath. After staying like this for a few more moments you sank back into the pillows, Ominis resting his head on your chest.
“I like the sound of your heartbeat,” he murmured sleepily. “Did you know that each person has a unique heartbeat? Isn’t that beautiful? It’s like each and every one of us have our own love song right inside of us. You just have to listen.”
“A love song?”
“I don’t know, maybe I’m just overtired and rambling nonsense.”
“Not at all. I think it’s beautiful. I just didn’t peg you for a hopeless romantic, that’s all.”
“Not what you expect from the heir of Salazar Slytherin, is it?”
“We can’t choose our family.”
You continued to run your fingers through his hair, and he sighed contently when you placed a kiss on the top of his head. Neither of you spoke but it was a peaceful kind of silence. Slowly the soft light of dawn started to seep through the windows. You lazily stretched your stiff limbs and sighed, “The sun is coming up. I should go back to my room before anyone finds me here.”  Ominis responded with an unintelligible noise, not showing any intention to move. Only when you awkwardly started to extricate yourself from his grip, he finally rolled over, reluctantly letting you get out of his bed.
When you turned around to leave, he grabbed your wrist and with one swift movement pulled you back in, placing another quick kiss on your lips. “Not so fast.”

*deep traumatic sigh*
Okay guys... I think it's time I introduced you to someone...
I'd like you all to meet Caleb Talont. My first OC, the basis for pretty much every OC that followed and my first foray into fanfiction. He was basically what I came up with before I got over my childish bashing and "fix all the problems" phase. The cool edgy guy with the powers of darkness yet is still kind and lovable. I'll admit it. He was a Mary Sue. I won't call him a self-insert, I started a story with a self-insert premise and oh boy did I quickly learn I should not be trusted with power.
But hold a wand to my head and threaten the killing curse? I might admit that Caleb is who I wanted to be. Past tense. I'm in a better place but Caleb is still the dark moody mofo he is. I don't blame him, I put him through hell.
Why am I bringing him up now? Well I was 13 when I first came up with Caleb, at least that's when my first post of him was, considering how obsessed I was with fanfiction before that point? And how many times I remember throwing him into Winx and WITCH? I may have been even younger. I mention how young I was to bring up how long it's been. I haven't touched Harry Potter fanfiction in what feels like decades. I haven't seen any of the original movies or reread the books in what I know has been a decade.
So, when I tell you, that seeing a SuperCarlinsBrothers video asking whether or not the Marauder's Map can lie? Well... I hope you'll believe when I say I did not expect that part of my brain, Caleb Talont himself, to wake from his coma and go "hold my butterbeer. I've got this."
I really, REALLY, like giving magic logical analysis and breakdowns. Not in a "magic is science we don't understand" type of bull that lead to stories where muggles proved they couldn't be trusted with the knowledge of magic existing, kind of way. But in a "it's all around us, it follows general trends and here are some guidelines to make using it easier but it's magic. The skys the limit just don't go too nuts too quickly okay?" Kind of way.
One way is "it's physics with extra laws." The other is "rotate your wand like this? Fire. Flick it like this? Water. Okay now watch what I can do without the wand."
I know what I find more fun. Magic should be poetry. It should be art. Sure it has a rhythm and some kind of structure but it doesn't NEED to."
Anyway. With that done. I will not be restarting any Caleb stories or moving them to AO3. I am however now open for any Harry Potter views debates or opinions you can throw at me.
I still have not watched the CarlinBros video by the way.

“so i choke on the sun,
and the days blur into one,
and the backs of my eyes,
hum with things I've never done.
sheets are swaying from an old clothesline,
like a row of captured ghosts over old dead grass.
was never much,
but we've made the most.
welcome home.”
