an original post for the first time in a while! an update on me, i've safely graduated and am currently in my gap year studying for international school. it's a big leap for me so i'm crossing my fingers that all goes well.

today's song is gyakko by ado :) this song has been my main source of energy these past few days!!

also, to all my new followers hello and thank you! this is probably the first original post a lot of you have seen from me haha but i'll be trying my best to post from time to time. i wish you all the best in your studies <3 mwah!

My exams finished last week and I got all my grades yesterday. So I officially finished my second year of university!!

The first two years we learn about basic stuff, the next one we start with the clinical subjects.

It wasn’t easy and there were a lot of exams… specially during the last month.

I’m officially on holiday now!

TOUCAN Learn languages without taking any extra time for it - Toucan replaces random words on your screen with their equivalents in your target language; You can see the translation and listen to the pronunciation by hovering over them. It also works in reverse - if you highlight any phrase in your language, it can give you the target language equivalent!

OPENDYSLEXIC Open-Dyslexic is a font specifically designed to increase readability for readers with dyslexia. The extension overrides all fonts on a web page with the OpenDyslexic font, and formats pages to be more easily readable.

INFINITY NEW TAB Another new tab extension. This one opens up a dashboard that's quite customizable. You can make to do lists, check your bookmarks, etc. Its design is fairly minimalistic and features lots of HD backgrounds.

WHAT FONT This one's super nice for graphic design students or just anyone who enjoys a pretty font here and there. It helps you find the name of any font you come across while browsing the web, along with the size and hex colour code!

CUTE CURSORS This one is completely self-explanatory. It replaces your boring triangle cursor with a cuter one; You can even upload your own little image. I, a professional student, can assure you browsing academic articles is way more fun when your cursor is a watermelon wedge.

POSTUREMINDER Face it - unless you have a standing desk or a super fancy desk chair, your posture is pretty bad most of the time. If you spend hours on end studying at your desk, this will help you get better at looking after your spine! This extension sends you reminders at specified time intervals.

MERCURY READER This one is great for everyone that has to read lots of articles - it removes any unnecessary clutter (ads and such) from websites. It also allows you to change the font and its size, as well as toggle between light or dark themes.

COFFEELINGS Your own personal mini journal & mood tracker. You can use different roasts to signify different moods, and you can write journal entries as well! Also works offline. You could also use this as a productivity tracker.

FILIPINOS URGENTLY NEED YOUR HELP: A CALL TO ACTION

hi, all.. i know that a lot of our focus is on the BlackLivesMatter movement atm (which is wonderful and should’ve happened a long time ago), and i hate to distract you from that, but there’s something horrible happening in my country, the Philippines (yes, the one being lead by the so-called Filipino version of Donald Trump), right now.

our national government has passed a bill that’ll essentially take away our constitutional rights to freedom of speech and fair trial. it’s called the Anti-Terrorism Bill, but we’ve dubbed it Terror Bill. here’s a summary of what it entails:

if you want to read the actual bill in its entirety, here’s a link to the official Senate of the Philippines website, where you can download a pdf copy. i’d like you to keep in mind the political climate in our country, though, and just how rampant corruption and police brutality are here.

it has already been passed by the Senate; all it needs is the House of Representatives’ approval, and it will be enforced. if you want to help stop this from happening, here are a few ways:

sign and share this petition. we’re so close to 300,000 signatures!!!

send e-mails to the Office of the President and the Senate. there’s an e-mail protest currently going on. i have qualms about copy-pasting the message, but ultimately, this method is a lot more effective than petitions:

educate yourself about the bill and how it will affect us when it’s approved. here are some news articles, editorials, and thought pieces to get you started:

your help could save the lives of millions of Filipinos, and we’d really, really appreciate it. i don’t usually ask for much, but when it comes to urgent issues like this, i can’t stay silent. unlike with BLM, i can speak my truth about this because i know personally what it’s like to be a Filipino citizen and to live in the Philippines. i hope it’s heard, and we keep an ounce of what little dignity we have as a “sovereign” country and rights as a “sovereign” people.

some of you might unfollow or get mad because this isn’t strictly studyblr content, but it’s not about aesthetic right now. i need your help. we need to hurry.

10th March: Do you believe in the supernatural? Have you had any spooky experiences?

Yes and no… I love the stories but I’m skeptical about ghosts following you around if you get in the wrong place or something like that… however the world is pretty huge and there are a lot of things we don’t know, perhaps there are forces, energy and spirits out there that we haven’t discovered yet.

And I haven’t had any spooky experiences per se… but I’ve seen some weird things before, not exactly scary though.

04.10.21 || recently i have watched a ted talk on how to learn any language in six months by Chris Lonsdale. i took some notes from the video and i thought it would be great to share these with all of you. here are 7 actions for rapid language acquisition —

listen a lot! it's called brain soaking. you put yourself in a context where you're hearing tons and tons and tons of a language and it doesn't matter if you don't understand it or not. what matters is you're listening to the rhythms, to patterns that repeat.

focus on the meaning FIRST before the words, focus on the body languages!

start mixing! if you've got 10 verbs, 10 pronouns and 10 adjectives you can say 1000 different things. language is a creative process. it doesn't have to be perfect, just has to work. remember how babies communicate - “me hungry eat’’ learn language like a baby!

focus on the core! any language is high frequency content. in English, 1000 words cover 85% of anything you're ever gonna say in daily conversation.

get yourself a language parent! who's somebody interested in you as a person who will communicate with you essentially as an equal but pay attention to help you understand the message.

copy the face. if you can look at a native speaker and just observe how they use their face, let your unconscious mind absorb the rules, then you're gonna be able to pick it up.

“direct connect’’ to mental images. when you hear the word fire, you think of smoke you go into that imagery and you become more and more skilled at just connecting the new sounds to those images that you already have into that internal representation. you prolly heard of associating a picture or a drawing when you're learning a new word in your target language. it means the exact same thing.
