happy new year!! omg it has been a looooong while since i have posted anything original, but this book has single-handedly fixed that!! it's one of our assigned texts this year and so far i have read it twice over because it is so subtle yet beautiful, i highly recommend it! apart from that, it's been a nice summer of reduced screentime, more time in the water, more crocheting and just more time overall🌱 i hope everyone else is doing okay!💜

My Zener Diode notes for Electronic class. I switched to digital notetaking last year and it was the best decision I made. It was perfect for online classes. I reduced a lot paper and save so much time! Whenever I have exams or quizzes, I don't have to take pictures, export them to pdf then submit. I can just directly export from Goodnotes then submit them!
If you are interested the notebook I'm using, you can purchase them on Etsy. I also have offwhite version! I can make dark mode too if I see a lot of people demanding it :)

i got back home on the 31st yay!!! happy to be home :) but i’ll probably start missing my family again asap. i bought some new clothes while i was in turkey (everything’s from pull and bear; it’s my favorite european store!!) also reread a childhood favorite book of mine: and then there were none. did anyone else go through an agatha christie phase/addiction in middle school ??
also!!! got my ap scores back (ap language + world history) and got 5′s on both??? (for non-us folk, that’s the highest score you can get) i feel over the moon considering i got a 2 last year on ap gov :) excited to save some money in college now
i was on a college visit during august 5+6 so i thought i’d include the prompts for those days as well!
5th august - what is your ultimate summertime song?
oh definitely anything by the band summer salt!! especially their song heart and my car :)
6th august - what is your favorite summertime movie?
la la land
7th august - do you read a lot in the summer?
happy to say that this year: YES! somehow i got back into the groove of reading and i’m trying to do it every day. since june, i’ve read the road less traveled, the girls (by emma cline), (i attempted) a portrait of the artist as a young man, and how the garcia girls lost their accent. currently about to start a couple of novels by ian mcewan! most of this is prep for my ap lit class haha :)

I’ve shifted from using my bullet journal for school stuff to using a pre-made planner and it’s honestly changed my life! I didn’t have the time to make spreads every week so having the dates already set up is really nice.
In other news, it’s the holidays! I hope you’re all feeling very festive as the weather (for us Northern hemisphere folks at least) cools down.
today’s seltzer: aha strawberry cucumber!

I had two exams this week – psychology on Monday and TEFL yesterday, and I hope they both went alright! Taking the exams also meant being on campus for the 2nd and 3rd time ever, which was nice. Maybe next semester, I can actually go there for classes as well…
After my second exam, I walked over to the lake nearby and spent some time reading and looking out at the water to unwind. The buildings of this campus might be slowly falling apart thanks to chronic under-funding, but I love having an actual campus at all (my bachelor's classes all just took place in various buildings around town…) and how central it is in the city!

idk who needs to hear this, but to all lgbtq+ people who aren't out for whatever reason:
you are valid. the legitimacy of your identity has nothing to do with how many people you've told - you are here, you are you and you are enough. even if you're not entirely sure what your identity is or don't want to put a label on it, you're still a part of this community. when (if) you decide to come out is completely up to you, not being out ≠ not being proud of who you are. this month is your celebration, too 🏳️‍🌈

day 2- If you’ve chosen a major, why did you decide on it? If you’re in any other grade , what field/major interests you the most?
I really enjoyed all my science classes in high school, especially my bio and chem classes. I decided to major in biology because I want to work with animals/plants in some capacity, and because I really enjoy learning about the living world. It is so interesting to learn all the little mechanisms that make all living beings what they are, and to understand why certain traits would be advantageous over others.
Anyway, tl;dr - I like animals and plants lol

What I learned from my freshman year in University? (Online Edition)
Just a quick disclaimer,
I started college in an online environment and all of this tips is plainly based on my own experience. I hope this reaches anyone who just graduated high school or anyone who will go to online classes without knowing anybody from university and possesses a desire to make a fresh start in college to make the most out of it, just like what I wished back then. These are my learnings:
1. Take it slow. This is maybe the last thing that you want to hear, but take it from me, take your time by observing well and adjusting in your own pace. In first activities, always read the instructions in everything that the professor asks you to do and be patient to yourself especially if there are things that do not make sense. Take it slow as well in your interaction with your online classmates if the class have not yet started for this might lead to the grave of great expectations.  Based on my experience, students are excited to look for their fellow blockmates before the class starts, and there will be adding of facebook friends, and groupchats will be born. It is not bad to socialize, and this is like the getting-to-know-you phase but do not let your life revolve in it and let the course take its path.  It is okay to meet and interact but do not pin yourself to a group instantly or permanently. Observe well and find people who have the same goal as you. The last thing you want is a toxic baggage in the start of your college life. 2. Online Low-Key. Do not tell but show, work behind the curtains and the curtains will open for you. In introductions, be simple and humble, speaking your achievements in a loud way can have undesirable effects in the long run. It is easy to make the best first impressions, like to be the most-congenial, and best-in-class-recitations, but the real question is that, how long will it last? The validation should not come from others, or your achievements in the past but it should come from your work in the present. This is a key to have more fun. Being Low-Key does not make you any lesser, but careful and self-reliant. 3. Value self-worth. Giving importance to yourself is stressed hard because online classes might be full of illusion. In short, what you can see is what people want you to see. I heard many achievements that were proclaimed by my blockmates themselves that sounded like elevating them to greatest heights, and this held tendencies to degrade my experiences and to question what I am doing with my life. At the end of the day, it is just a trap of impression that can lure one to a power play, so do not be swayed because in college, all of what you guys achieved in the past does not matter because you are all starting in square one. Focus on yourself, and your goals. Look at the present, and do things that you love. 4. Choose. Choose your priorities and choose your friends. To value your self-worth, you should have a vision of the end result you want to see. A foundation to a good life is built when you start to choose it. To graduate is one thing, and that should be your main priority for now but you should set mini goals to yourself to bring out your capacity. These goals should never involve all productivity, but the strive for growth. Most things are your choice, but it does not mean that it is your choice, you can control everything, but still you can choose your mindset. Pressure is good in some times but not all times, for nothing good will come out without endurance.
5. Collaborate. Time management is the key but teamwork is the master. I thought that in college I can do things all by myself, and that I do not need anyone in my life, but this was the thing I got wrong. Collaboration is important and true collaboration involves accountability and responsibility to each other. There are many times in college that will test the friendships that you formed, so you should really be wise in choosing your team. Do not rush it, but do not wait for too long. Explore and you will find them. 6. Acceptance. My first and last major exam in my freshman year both got failing marks. I did studied for weeks so I cannot understand until now where I got wrong or how I will cope. However, accepting those scores lead me to realize, that not all the outcomes I want, happens. This is the hardest thing to learn. Scores do fluctuate in college no matter how hard I try but what was important was the process and the takeaway learnings I found.  In the Philippines, if I am not mistaken, there is a memorandum that this year, school would still be online. Thank you so much for reading!
