โœ๏ธ what no one tells you about how to journal ๐Ÿ“’
i was sick of all the "how to journal" content out there recycling the same advice that sounds great but doesn't always work in the reality of daily life. you're welcome ๐Ÿ˜ (also low-key a shitpost, but there are nuggets of wisdom in here, i promise ๐Ÿ˜‡)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
โœ๏ธ what to journal about โœ๏ธ
sure, you could journal about self development and treat your diary like your therapist, OR you could write about:
the pettiest grudge you're still holding onto from elementary school ๐Ÿ˜ค
all the gossip about other people's lives that you have Strong Opinionsโ„ข๏ธ about, but you're a good person, so what goes in the journal, stays in the journal ๐Ÿคซ
all the witty comebacks you never say to people's faces because you're a sensible, non-confrontational person, but also you didn't think of it until later ๐Ÿ™ƒ
the possibilities are endless, let your imagination run wild, and/or feel free to contact the blogger for more ๐Ÿคญ
๐Ÿšซ when NOT to journal ๐Ÿšซ
this is just as, if not more, important as when to journal.
nothing to say โ€” forget morning pages, i can barely string together a coherent greeting before lunch. also, a whole night's sleep is like a total memory wipe, so i have nothing to write about ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ and don't listen to whoever says to just write "i have nothing to write about" because if you start enough entries with that, you're gonna begin to feel there's no point BUT THERE IS!! just not right now. and that's okay โ˜บ๏ธ
too often โ€” personally, i think it's important not to make journaling your one source of clarity ๐Ÿ”ฎ continue to think things through in your mind, confide in people you trust, and have moments (in nature, perhaps) that simply can't be transcribed to words ๐ŸŒผ
not feeling it โ€” if you're too tired OR feel fulfilled and clear-headed enough about your day, don't make journaling a chore you have to do no matter what. if that means you don't journal everyday, then so be it ๐ŸŒ
so when do you journal? in general, when doing so would add something to your day โ˜€๏ธ whether that's peace, humor, gratitude, or something else.
๐ŸŽ materials ๐ŸŽ
now for the fun part: let's go to the stationery store! ๐Ÿ›’
โœ’๏ธ GET A PEN THAT WRITES SMOOTHLY! you are literally lowering the physical resistance that's keeping you from journaling, trust me it works. also pencils suck.
๐Ÿ” get a journal with a band, lock, clasp, button, etc. โ€” just because it's fun, but it has the added benefit of securing your intellectual property(?)
have a separate journal for writing thoughts vs. schedules vs. todos vs. collections (TBR lists, recipes, etc.) โ€” beats having to make and maintain a whole index to keep it all organized in just one (1) notebook ๐Ÿ˜ตโ€๐Ÿ’ซ
๐ŸŒธ stickers โ€” are a pretty substitute for correction pens ๐Ÿ˜ป (in theory, but i have yet to use all the washi tape i bought ๐Ÿ˜…)
or just journal digitally, idgaf, do what works for you, okay? ๐Ÿ˜‡

Update: I wrote this at like 1 AM, so I was kind of half-asleep lol. A few people brought up that there were a bunch of duplicates in the list, sorry about that! I redid the whole list and ordered them alphabetically to avoid any repeating words. Hope you find the new list much more helpful!

โ€ข 4 classes.
Entrepreneurship: we had a group-work day. We did some brainstorming for our end of the semester project. (Basically come up with a business idea and write a business plan).
Asian History: Guomindang vs CCP or China 1930s
Physics: nice and short. The prof let us go almost half an hour early.
Financial Management: quiz. Surprisingly easy this time. Itโ€™s the first time I got a 100.
โ€ข 1h 20min on Forest ๐ŸŒณ to prepare questions for the interview (another assignment for entrepreneurship class) and send out an email to the interviewee.
Also, I went to talk about my essay yesterday. TA was really nice. There was a particular thesis structure that they were looking for and that my essay lacked hence B- She told me that I can come over with my next essay and get it checked before submitting it which I will likely do. Moral of the story โ€” not sure about something โ€” ask!
I wrapped up most of my work today, sooo I will officially be on my spring break after Iโ€™m done with my volunteering tomorrow โœจ๐ŸŽ† (I need it soooo much)
Oh and my friend gave me a birthday present. A little early because we wonโ€™t see each other throughout the spring break. The cute notebook on the first photo is the gift. It was soooo nice. He is one of my closest friends in uni and I was really touched :3

habits i should try to avoid burnout ๐Ÿต
to varying degrees, every semester i burn out. this one may become the worst i've had in recent years if i'm not careful bc of the way i'm trying to pack my schedule. anxiety has been unexpectedly high this week and it's only week 1! ๐Ÿ˜–
๐Ÿข self-care:
get 8-10 hours of sleep daily
daily exercise - enough to get me physically tired enough to sleep
meditate AND journal daily
give myself at least one day a week to chill (probably will be a "reset" day bc i can't just vegetable and expect my brain to not self-destruct. for now, let's try saturdays.)
more quality time with the people i love throughout the week
fresh air + sunlight when the weather isn't too inhospitable
no phone mornings (i quickly fell out of the habit but it did wonders for my mental health ๐Ÿ˜ญ)
๐Ÿฐ time management:
set reasonable goals. don't kid yourself into thinking you can complete everything on a to-do list you doubt you can finish even half of - if you doubt, you're probably right.
take plenty of breaks throughout the day
don't procrastinate bc procrastination's consequences will definitely lead to burnout. on the days you just don't feel it, give yourself a reason to study that speaks to you. what is demotivating you? give yourself the encouragement you need to not give up.
vary the order in which you do things so your days feel like they have more variety (e.g. vary the order in which you work on different subjects every day)
study based on energy level (i.e. try to study high-energy subjects when you have high energy and low-energy subjects when you have low energy. stop for the day when you're just not there anymore, don't try to push it.) this doesn't have to be contradictory to the point above cuz i still have lots of choices for what to do and my energy sometimes fluctuates like crazy throughout a single day.

Random Study Tips
Tumblr media
Don't study for too long if you are not enjoying it.
Take short breaks after 20-30 minutes.
Don't study in the living room, bedroom, etc.
Study in a separate place dedicated to studying.
Don't try to memorize without understanding. Try to understand the concept first.
Don't always study alone. Studying in groups helps a lot.
Don't highlight text blindly. Highlighting doesn't help that much. It only indicates Recognization not Recollection of the topic.
Always take notes. Reviewing the notes after a short time helps a lot.
Always try to teach others what you have learned.
Teaching is the best way of learning. Teach your parents, siblings, friends or even a rubber duck (programmers will know the rubber duck method).
Sleep is so much important for pushing something into your long-term memory. Get at least 7-8 hours of sound sleep.
Try to use the SQ3R (survey, question, recite, read, review) method while studying.
Use Mnemonics. It's the best way to memorize facts.

โŸก Easy Ways to Beat Procrastination โŸก
๐ŸŽฏ Set a small goal: Define a specific, achievable task to start with.
โฐ Use the 2-minute rule: Commit to working on the task for just two minutes to overcome initial resistance. Go lower if need be.
๐Ÿช‘ Create a focused space: Organize your surroundings for a distraction-free work area.
๐Ÿšซ Cut distractions: Remove or silence anything that might divert your attention.
๐Ÿ“ Break it into steps: Divide the task into smaller, manageable parts to make it less overwhelming.
๐Ÿ Start with the easy part: Begin with the simplest aspect to build momentum and confidence.
๐ŸŽ Promise a reward: Plan a small treat for yourself once you complete the task.
โฒ๏ธ Set a timer: Use a timer to work in focused intervals, like 25 minutes, followed by a short break.
๐ŸŒŸ Visualize success: Imagine the sense of accomplishment after finishing the task.
๐ŸŒ„ Remember the big picture: Keep in mind the larger purpose and benefits of completing the task.
๐Ÿค— Be kind to yourself: Accept any resistance you're feeling without self-criticism.
๐Ÿš€ Just start anyway: Even if you're not fully motivated, begin the task โ€“ momentum often builds as you go.

Ways to actually start studying after procrastinating
Don't multi-task: Multitasking does not come in the form of making notes and watching Netflix, it can come in the form of switching between two or three subjects too many times then it is like washing a plate and watching a show. It barely makes any sense to me.
Batching: Batching is where you take your to-do list and batch similar tasks into groups and take a break in between these batches.
Do Not Use Pomodoro Technique: Don't use the Pomodoro Technique because you have fixed tasks (tasks that require a particular amount of time) and flexible tasks (tasks that might take up more time than fixed tasks).
Flashcards: These things are the gamer-changers. Flashcards can be used in subjects which have a lot of terms that you need to remember, such as biology, chemistry, etc.
Don't feel bad about modifying your to-do list: If you have your math homework and an exam due next week, and you don't feel like doing math then you could study for your exam. Its okay to modify your tasks according to your mood.
Bonus tip: If you have to revise a chapter, get a few blank pages and put it beside your textbook/notes. While reading your notes, write down points that you can't remember or think is important that you wanna recap later on. If you compile those papers up that could be your go-to revision booklet before your exams.

Habits I picked up because of school that I keep up with (on my semester break)
Waking up early- I find that, with few exceptions, I wake up before 8:30am every day.
Study groups- okay Iโ€™m stretching the definition here, but I have productivity days at coffee shops with my friends, where I work on job applications, blog posts (hehe Iโ€™m writing this one from the coffee shop), or work on hobbies (mostly crochet and embroidery).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Notion schedules-I used to keep weekly and daily schedules on notion to track schoolwork, but I now use them to track my work schedule and hangout dates with my friends
Always keeping lists/notebooks around- I am rarely without a notebook in arms reach. I have a notebook in my bag and by my bedside. I keep sticky notes in my apron at work so I can write things down and add them to my notebooks. I used them as a type of bullet journal but with none of the structure.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I still study- I just now have full control on what I study. For example, I plan on teaching myself the Dewey decimal system soon. (And picking up some asl)
Digital art- what started as doodling in the margins of my digital notebooks has become a full-blown hobby of mine.
Visiting the library- honestly, I just find the library to be a very comforting place.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Writing book reviews- while my book reviews for my blog posts are far less structured and formal, they only exist because I got used to writing them for school.
Reading nonfiction- I found through online classes that I enjoy reading textbooks and nonfiction work.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Listening to audio books- I started listening to audio books back when was both full time student and working full time because I had no time to sit down with a book. Now its my preferred way to read.
Picking up hobbies- I am always looking for my next hobby to pick up. Last year I picked up painting and crafting. I also tried out wax seals and gardening (shout out to the two plants I havenโ€™t killed yet).
What productive habits have you picked up?

๐Ÿ‹ adulting diaries // how i'm learning to love my life again โ›…
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
these aren't things that you just do once and then you're done โ€” you'll never feel trapped or lonely or insecure ever again. life happens, we get waylaid. so gently remind yourself too, "again and again and again, i will come back to love" ๐Ÿ’›
๐ŸชŸ listen to your body
โœจ it's really difficult to get to a good place emotionally without getting to a good place physically, which isn't to say it's impossible, there are just some ways you can make things a little easier for yourself:
sleep early (at least before midnight) ๐Ÿ’ค
don't stay in bed if you're awake โ€” get up and start your day slowly opening your mind to new possibilities ๐Ÿ˜Œ
don't just go through the motions of your personal grooming โ€” look yourself in the mirror and appreciate the details only you possess ๐Ÿ˜
eat breakfast!!! don't start your day hangry or... sangry? (what's the word for sad and hungry?)
๐Ÿค do something you're interested in with other people
โœจ even if you don't have time for your hobbies during the week, "interest" can also be defined as "having a vested interest in" and this mindset shift alone can work wonders.
attend focus groups or town halls to participate in improving the quality of life at your institution, company, department, and/or neighborhood
if no such meeting exists, take the initiative to gather a group of friends/colleagues to hang or even hash out a collective issue
the point is to engage socially (giving good reactions to others more extroverted than yourself is also engaging!) to give yourself an opportunity to feel like part of a community
๐Ÿ’ invest in yourself
โœจ the more time and effort you put into something the more you come to value it. this is the psychology of commitment, so why not commit to yourself?
do a workout that makes you feel strong, powerful, and healthy ๐Ÿ’ช
gain clarity by journaling, talking to a therapist or someone you trust, or meditating
advocate for yourself โ€” put yourself up for a promotion/award/job opportunity, go to an event and introduce yourself to new people, and in doing so, remember that other people's reaction to you doesn't matter half as much as the fact that YOU see the value in yourself enough to put yourself forward
nourish your mind โ€” read a book, learn a new skill or practice an old one, be observant of others and your surroundings
๐Ÿ’Œ: i hope these help you as they've helped me ๐Ÿ’ how do you show love to yourself and your life?

Time Blocking
Time-blocking: scheduling out EVERY PART of your day
What to time-block
Inflexible events (lectures, work shifts, appointments)
Routines (getting ready for school/work, getting ready to go to sleep, etc.)
Tasks (studying, homework, projects, chores, etc.)
How to time-block:
Get a calendar (preferably digital so itโ€™s easily changeable.) I use a mix of Google Calendar and iCalendar.
Make separate calendars for separate parts of your life (personal, work, school.) I personally separate my classes as well because itโ€™s easier.
Schedule all inflexible events first. Why? To see how you can balance and schedule your day around those times.
Schedule the time it takes to get to school/work. It helps you see how much time you have to do stuff that doesnโ€™t require you to commute. (You can also study while commuting, but it can be harder if you have multiple transfers, or get easily car-sick. Also, public transit can be dangerous, so be careful.)
Schedule the tasks you need to do. Homework, studying, laundry, cleaning. Estimate the time you think it takes to do those things. If you have ADHD, you should probably multiply that time to 2 (or 3), because you will most likely get distracted and not finish it in time (instead of 15 minutes, itโ€™s probably 30 minutes.)
All short individual tasks like taking out garbage and folding laundry, you should group those short tasks together in one block and just make a to-do list.

12.04.24
I havenโ€™t posted in a while. For about 3 weeks I think. These 3 weeks were crazy, and I just didnโ€™t have any energy to make posts.
Achieved (in the past 3 weeks):
3d Physics midterm passed
2nd Financial management midterm passed (the 3d one is coming this Monday)
2nd Entrepreneurship midterm passed
Case study on an Entrepreneur (interview + written report) done
2nd Asian history essay written and submitted (also Behind Beautiful Forevers by Katherine Boo is finished as the essay was based on this book).
Today I realised that I forgot to do my Management quiz, and this Professor doesnโ€™t accept any late work, so I lost easy 50 point without any chance to make them up. To say that Iโ€™m upset is to say nothing. It was supposed to take me 20 minutes or even less. But it just totally slipped my mind.
Ongoing and upcoming
3d Financial management midterm (Monday)
2nd Management midterm (Wednesday)
Management group project โ€” in progress
Entrepreneurship group project โ€” in progress
Everything else are just routine loads of homework and my finals start in two weeks.
So far 15 hours on forest this week ๐ŸŒณ๐ŸŒธ
Stay strong and donโ€™t forget to rest โœจ
P.S. I watched Ada and the Engine in our uni theatre today and it was soooo good!! Honestly, I hadnโ€™t known I can love theatre that much until I started going to our uni theatre :D

cheap and easy ways to romanticize your life ~it's about the little things~
Tumblr media Tumblr media
หšเญจเญงโ‹†๏ฝกหš โ‹† speak to yourself lovingly. you have the potential to be your best cheerleader because your mind is the only one you can read. when you find yourself feeling down bc of automatic negative thoughts, try to think of something about the situation that is genuinely good, however small it may feel. on a similar note, every night, try to come with at least 3 good things that happened or that you felt that day. they don't have to be big things. even just the absence of smth negative is a positive. (this is still taking sm practice after getting stuck in a pessimistic habit and struggling to keep myself accountable to change it, but it's so worth it, i promise. ๐Ÿฅฒ)
Tumblr media
หšเญจเญงโ‹†๏ฝกหš โ‹† start your day with music that puts you in the mood to...well, start your day. | personal favorites ๐Ÿฅฐ morning coffee lofi โ€ข happy morning jazz โ€ข cozy jazz for when you don't want to think about anything
Tumblr media
หšเญจเญงโ‹†๏ฝกหš โ‹† get cozy. ๐Ÿงฃ hold something soft. ๐Ÿงธ savor that texture, that comfort.
Tumblr media
หšเญจเญงโ‹†๏ฝกหš โ‹† forest bathing ๐ŸŒฒ๐Ÿฅฐ look out your window or better yet, step outside. breathe the air. get some sunlight. look at the sky. the clouds. trees. stars and moon. all the colors. all the shapes. listen for birdsong. the crunching of snow or grass under your feet. isn't it wonderful that we get to experience all this? when i'm feeling lonely and i step outside and look for any sign of nature, i realize just how much i'm not alone and there is good in the world.
Tumblr media
หšเญจเญงโ‹†๏ฝกหš โ‹† set up a nice ambience. there are many for free online that can sound as real and comforting as you want them to be for the days when indoors studying or what have you. study with me videos have literally tricked my brain into feeling like studying even if it's really just pseudo-external accountability (i can never wake up to watch them live lol).
Tumblr media
หšเญจเญงโ‹†๏ฝกหš โ‹† you are worth taking care of. so take care of yourself. start with smth really really small like leaving a glass of water by your bedside to drink first thing after waking up. then gradually add in slightly bigger things as you feel ready like taking care of your hair (literally did not know about proper washing technique until i watched this ๐Ÿ˜ต) and skin (bare minimum: cleanser, sunscreen, and moisturizer), getting enough sleep, and exercising. "true self-care is not salt baths and chocolate cake, it is making the choice to build a life you donโ€™t need to regularly escape from."

stop procrastinating
Tumblr media
y'all i just went the whole day (mostly) w/o procrastination and now i feel accomplished enough to give some more anti-procrastination tips :)
stay organized โ‹† a visual timeline or planner helps you track what to do so you don't waste even a minute.
stay focused โ‹† think about why you even wanted to pursue this activity in the first place. if you're studying, think about the smartest kid in your class and how they're most likely studying while you procrastinate.
take breaks โ‹† realize that you can always come back and take a break later. don't forget to have fun.
be realistic โ‹† set SMART goals - Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound goals for your studies.
Tumblr media
gl to everyone out there. and get off tumblr and start studying ;)
