i love the specific situation when i see you reblogging things and i immediately think it's tsc without looking at the context and then immediately spiral into a tornado of confusion and/or horror before the moment of clarity washes over me and i realize it's fate the winx saga
you have no idea how many times i've seen fairy-esque discussions on your blog or drama-adjacent things and I'm like "WHAT HAPPENED TO MARK AND KIERAN WHAT DID I MISS oh wait-"
Hahaha, I do feel a slight pang of guilt sometimes for TSC fans who followed and are still here. I mean- I am still into Shadowhunters! But I mix it up a lot more these days.
But more importantly- you made me spiral with your question of WHAT HAPPENED TO MARK AND KIERAN... that I had to think, what does happen to Mark, Kieran and the Blackthorns and Emma in a Fate universe context?
SO- buckle up, we're going fusion with Fate and The Shadowhunter Chronicles.
I'm going to stick mainly with The Dark Artifices characters for this but I do have to do a shout out to the fact that we do have some direct parallels but mainly TMI related.
Sky = Herondale with Jace's weaponry skill and daddy issues, James' gentlemanly behavior hiding a dark side, and Kit's jacket + sarcasm. That boy suffers beautifully, as all Herondales must.
And Bloom = Clary Fairchild, independent red-head discovers hidden world of magic and finds a close knit group of friends who help her save the world. Though the narrative punishes Bloom a lot more than Cassie ever did to Clary.
Therefore Bloom/Sky roughly equals Clary/Jace
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fate: The Winx Saga actually fits the mold of original flavour TSC quite well even if the other character archetypes don't exactly align with the Fate characters.
But... if we get to The Dark Artifices and the more morally grey Blackthorns and add in the Unseelie Court, this is where I had to stretch the imagination. Not because it can't be done but I had to shift a couple things to fit into the Fate context.
So, first of all- Emma is clearly a Specialist in this 'verse. Trains all day, weapons fan and a drive for revenge? Absolutely she'd be an awesome Specialist. Her background in Fate is that her parents were killed by Burned Ones - and they were also part of Rosalind's elite squad and so as a consequence she's brought up at Alfea by Silva, alongside Sky. She's Julian's Specialist partner.
Julian is a Mind Fairy. I considered all the other elements and nope, we've got to acknowledge he'd be a fucking powerful mind fairy, and he'd be a protege of Headmistress Farah Dowling. When Rosalind inevitably returns... she'd sense his power and there would definitely be attempst to push him to give in to the more manipulative side of his powers.
The Blackthorn's 'dark secret' in this 'verse is that Mark and Helen's mother was a Blood Witch, in a time when there wasn't as much division between fairies and Blood Witch.
We keep Julian's dark past in that he had to kill his own father when he was younger, who was possessed by a Blood Witch trying to get revenge for the Aster Dell massacre. In this battle, Julian protects his younger siblings but Mark is taken by some of his mother's relatives and goes off to live with the Blood Witches. Helen is a Specialist and has been banished by Queen Luna to the wilds of Eraklyon to check the Barrier (and her fairy partner Aline goes with her).
Anyway, when our story starts, Mark's just been returned to Solaria, through some backroom negotiations by General Bavani, and he's causing a stir at Alfea, as most people don't trust him due to his background. Oh, and he's an Air Fairy nominally but learnt it through Blood Witch practice, which makes his magic super erratic. He and Julian are trying to get back to their old bond but it's hard and there's the whole point of Julian trying not to admit he's in love with Emma because... okay, there's no parabatai issue but let's go with the idea that Mind Fairies can't be in relationships with their Specialist partners because if they get hurt/their partner gets hurt, it makes the magic go Kaboom or something, so it's Highly Frowned upon). But obviously Mark has no issues with this so we can keep the Emma-Mark-Julian triangle from the first book.
Kieran, as some kind of son of an important Blood Witch clan- maybe even still a Prince, shows up undercover (ala Beatrix's background), but in this 'verse, clearly Mark knows. So he's trying to out why Kieran is there without getting Kieran in trouble. So he and this other Specialist he's been getting close to- Cristina Rosales - are investigating and trying to figure out Kieran's ulterior motives. And of course, the OT3 still develops. 😌
Whew... going to stop here before I write a full-blown AU but thank you for spurring on this ridiculous fusion post. Hope you enjoyed and once you've watched the pilot, maybe even know some of the names I've been throwing around. 😀

chain of thorns spoilers!
~
okay, my brain is still scattered after reading this rollercoaster of a book, but i need to write some of my thoughts down because i am living in denial
general thoughts:
-there was so little magnus, tragic
-there was so little of the adults too, like i know it’s not their story but we’re never gonna see them again
-all of the malcolm tda foreshadowing yikes
-audibly screamed in terror when matthew and cordelia kissed
-seriously their love triangle was just pissing me off
-thomas’ pov kept me going
-but alastair had like one short pov section? what?
-huge ari and winston stan though
-the christmas party scene with tatiana, i was actually so concerned
-low key love that it was grace who told cordelia the truth
-damn james and cordelia are crazy (horny james herondale shooting the doorknob like omg get it)
-you’re telling me esme hardcastle making up her own stories is the whole reason why this stupid family tree is so inaccurate??
-and like, now, it’s SUPER inaccurate
-if i don’t get an updated family tree istg i’m going to lose my mind
okay now onto the important stuff aka why do the lightwood siblings always have to suffer:
-literally wtf because i was seriously rooting for christopher and grace so hard?? and then he died?? what??
-he spent the whole book being his adorable little self and then suddenly he’s gone
-and NO ONE got to grieve properly
-the merry thieves are never going to be the same again, it felt like these books were built on the foundation of their friendship but everyone just moved on?
-like i seriously thought he was still alive or would be coming back somehow because it felt so rushed and improper
-no funeral, no ave atque vale, no scene of cecily and gabriel mourning their CHILD?!
-i’m so upset on his behalf, christopher lightwood you deserve the world
in conclusion:
alastair’s sarcasm was the only thing holding this book together for me, thank you

You know, I can't stop thinking about Will Herondale. You know him, right? From Cassandra Clare books, The Infernal Devices.
That one was the third series of her I read. The first one was The Last Hours (which takes place around a decade after).
And I can say it was pretty interesting to see a previous Will, from before. Who takes all in, uses sarcasm and has so many problems and tries to make people hate him and is so miserable and despiste wanting he knows he can't try he can't be better or else people will die. And I think it's just so classical. Is almost cliché. But is so genial. Not wanting to judge, but I think Cassandra Clare books have so many popular and classical tropes for characters. We have James Castairs (from the infernal devices), who is sweet and kind and gentle and deals with his problems compliant and patient. Jace Herondale (the mortal instruments), who is sassy and strong and harsh on the outside but kind and gentle in the inside (plus has daddy issues). Isabelle Lightwood, also from the mortal instruments, the "perfect girl". Who is so stylish and hot and all because she wants to, who cares so much about her loved ones and sometimes don't know what to do and hates being weak and is so strong. And Will. Will Herondale.
Everytime I'm working on my own writing, when it comes to developing my characters I think on Will. I admire Cassandra Clare, you know? She uses these tropes and does it so beautifully, even thought I think it's almost cliché. I love it all. And him, Will. He just amazes me. He is a passionate lover, with no self-preservation sense, a kind soul and yet has to force himself to be hate-able. And he's so miserable and passes throught so much and suffers a lot, and also represents one of my favorite tropes. When I'm making my characters, I try hard to avoid abusing of my favorite tropes and using clichés, or else they'll be just a trope and will have no identity. But Will? Will is a living trope, a living character archetype and yet his identity is blatant. He is an unique character. It's almost paradoxal. It's amazing.
I don't know if it makes sense, but I wanted to share.
This is why I can't stop thinking about Will Herondale.
(Sorry if it was a little confusing I have a hard time puting my thoughts into words)

10 characters, 10 fandoms, 10 tags
(Do animes count? skdjfnds) I was tagged on this like 84 years ago, I'm so sorry it took me this long sdkfjns. Thank you @annamiasworld and @countessofravenclaw ❤️
Simón Álvarez | Soy Luna
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Listen, if I hadn't fallen in love with this man, I never would've finished even the first season of Soy Luna, and I never would've started writing fanfiction, so it's safe to say that he changed my life forever, okay? (And yes there's a pic of the Friendzone scene there BECAUSE IT GAVE ME 20 YEARS OF LIFE)
2. Stiles | Teen Wolf
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"I'm 147 pounds of pale skin and fragile bones. Sarcasm is my only defense."
He's smart, he's sarcastic, he's dorky-- He's perfect. Honestly? I don't know if my obsession with guys wearing plaid shirts came from before or if it started with this guy. That's huge.
3. Killian Jones / Captain Hook | Once Upon a Time
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This man. This man. I think he made my expectations in men go so high that I'll die alone. Do not get fooled by the whole pirate thing; this guy is the sweetest, and he's not a villain; he's a hero. This show also marked a before and after in my life, so it has to be here.
4. Thiago | Casi Ángeles
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This whole show was toxic as fuck due to the years it aired, but it means so much to me. My obsession with Thiago back in the days was... almost psychotic 😂ksdjfnsk. But it was very fun❤️ There are parts in this show that make me cry to this day. And the songs. The songs.
5. Daenerys Targaryen | Game of Thrones
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
MY QUEEN, WHAT DID THEY DO TO YOU.
Listen, if you believe the shit that D&D pulled on Dany was okay, we can not be friends. In fact, this is a deal-breaker for me. If any future prospect of a boyfriend agreed with the ending of this show, I would call things off immediately because that is a red flag, my friends. A big, fat red flag.
6. Will Herondale | The Infernal Devices - Cassandra Clare
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Are you implying that shreds of my reputation remain intact?" Will demanded with mock horror. "Clearly I have been doing something wrong. Or not something wrong, as the case may be." He banged on the side of the carriage. "Thomas! We must away at once to the nearest brothel. I seek scandal and low companionship.”
My book husband. The perfect imperfect man. I could say so much but ugh, it wouldn't be enough. The sarcasm and the wit are such a minimal part of it, even if lovely. This guy is just... so strong to have survived what he survived, to have lived how he lived. So incredibly kind and selfless and... I just love him, your honor.
7. Percy Jackson | PJO & Heroes of Olympus - Rick Riordan

Another book love. I love these books so much. I believe these are the first books I ever fully read in English?? Because the Spanish fan translations were terrible skjfdns. So, it pushed me to make my English better, for which I'm incredibly grateful.
And look at him. He's gorgeous. And also sarcastic and dorky. Do I have a type? Yes.
8. Izuku Midoriya (Deku) | Boku No Hero

Sunshine boy that has never done anything wrong in his life. Cinnamon roll, too good of this world, too pure. Must be protected at all costs. Fuck Katsuki Bakugou.
Also, look at him, he's so hot.
(Honorable mention here of Hinata from Haikyuu because he's also sunshine boy)
9. Armin Arlet | Shingeki no Kyojin
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He's SO. SMART. I LOVE that about him. And he's so brave of my fucking god. I don't trust people who don't like his character, honestly. What would Shingeki be without him? Eren and Mikasa would've been dead in episode 1. Everyone would've died like 10 times without Armin. Without Armin, they were all screwed. Armin is so damn cool and not enough people realize that. #AppreciateArminArlet2023
10. Oz | Pandora Hearts
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
My son. I can not close this list without mentioning him or this manga. It's such an important part of my life. It's probably my favorite manga, and do you know how huge that is when I've read over 300 mangas?
He was so cute, cool, and internally fucked up skdjnfs. A great combination. Look at him smile.
(AND THE RABBITS WERE ALWAYS FUCKING THERE, WEREN'T THEY? WE WERE SO BLIND.)
-----------------------
I could mention a hundred more manga and anime characters but I'm going to control myself. As always, I'm tagging my babes @you-are-important-nina and @theuniversezecho It should be 10 tags, but when have I ever followed that rule? 😂 Anyway, anyone else who wants to do it is free to do so! <3

Kit's Diary
Chapter 13
Dear Ty,
I just realised that I forgot to tell you about my therapist appointment last week. As I told you, I had to take notes about what I remember about my childhood. I asked Tessa and Jem about if I should tell her about the first heir stuff and they reminded me that the whole Unseelie Court knows about me anyways for some reason. So I decided to tell her about that too at the next appointment. Mrs. Sullivan, being her enthusiastic self, gave nice commentary like "mmhmh" and "mkay". Please note the sarcasm here.
After my long ass monologue finally ended, the therapist confirmed that I definitely have trauma from what happened since my dad was killed and I found out I was a Shadowhunter, but also possibly some trauma from experiences I made in my childhood, that my brain made me forget to save me from being too traumatised. She asked me if I was willing to be hypnotised, so that she can find out what this traumatic experiences were to be able to help me better. I agreed. Mrs. Sullivan said she would contact a warlock who was able to do that and I suggested that maybe Tessa would have this ability too. I guess I feel more comfortable with having Tessa know my past memories that I don't even remember myself, than some random warlock I never met.
In addition to that Mrs. Sullivan also suggested that I might have ADHD. She printed out some sheets with the traits she observed in me and some other ones typical for ADHD and asked me to give it to several people I know, preferably some with little connection to each other. They should pick all the traits they have observed in me. I'm also supposed to fill out one sheet because some questions are about how I feel about certain things and how I think I behave, which obviously only I can answer. Then we made another appointment in two weeks, because Mrs. Sullivan is on vacation the next week. Well, this week I mean.
When I got home I gave Tessa and Jem one of the sheets and told them all the therapist said. They suggested to give one of the sheets to my school friends and one to Hazel, because she surely observed something about me too, as my ex-girlfriend. Jem even send the photo of the sheet to Emma, so she and Julian can point out, what they observed about me, too. And Tessa agreed to do the hypnosis thing and said she would also feel more safe about me, if no random warlock we don't know found out about me being the First Heir.
I have to tell you about something else, too. In school everyone is obsessed with this one singer from America, who just published her new album. Her name is Taylor Swift and she's apparently super popular, especially in America. I didn't know her. Was I living under a rock for the past years? Yes probably. (That was a metaphor by the way. I don't actually live under a rock obviously. It just means being unaware of mainstream things. Like Taylor Swift apparently. Lol.)
Anyways, back to Taylor. Once Leo found out that I didn't know, she forced me to listen to all of her songs and give her my opinion. After doing that I finally realised why she was so shocked. These songs are amazing. And she has so many different ones. Heartbroken songs, angry songs, love songs, revenge songs, calm songs and sad songs. Even some rocky songs. And some "I don't give a shit" songs. She really has everything you could ask for. Apparently she also is friends with Ed Sheeran and sung a duet with him. Yes I know Ed, but not Taylor. I'm weird, I know. I swear if Jem and Tessa listen to "Perfect" one more time, I'm sending Ed a marriage proposal on their behalf. Maybe he's Will Herondale reincarnated and I just don't know about that. You never know with this Shadowhunter stuff. Lol. And I changed topics again. Come on Kit. You can do better.
Anyways, back to Taylor, AGAIN. If you ever read this and you haven't listened to her songs yet, which I highly doubt, considering your literal twin sister is Livvy, you should listen to "Wildest Dreams". I think you might like it. And "Begin Again", too. I also just found the perfect song I can listen to on loop, when I'm missing you again. It's called "Haunted" and for some reason it fits perfectly to us. And it gives me feelings. Much feelings. Why can this woman describe my feelings better, than I can? If she ever stops her career, she should consider becoming a therapist. Wait a second, Julian just called and asked to speak with me. I'll be right back.
Holy shit. You won't believe what just happened. Well, you will actually because it was you idea, haha. Anyways, Julian called and said they saw the sheet Jem send them and were discussing it, when you randomly visited and after they told you what they were doing, you wanted to help them because you knew me best. Holy shit. What? Huh? Am I dreaming. What??? I couldn't believe that was true and literally asked Mina to trip my leg really hard so that could bring me back to reality. But this is real. What? Omg. I think I broke. Where is Taylor when you need her? She better have a song about this.
Sorry, I'm back from my lovesick happiness trip now. Calm your shit, Kit! (oh a rhyme!) He just helped. You didn't even interact. What will you do when it comes this far? Die? Yeah probably. So if I black out, when we see eachother again, don't worry. I'm good. Just lovesick.
Oh man, I'm talking to myself again. I think I need an extra therapy session for this.
Aaaaanyway. (I used this word too much today, I know.) So, Emma send back the sheets with her's, Julian’s and your comments. And I can see so clearly what you wrote. Aaaaahh. Thank you so much. Aaaaahhhhhh.
I think I should stop writing for today. It's dinnertime now anyway. But maybe I can hope that you're thinking about me now too? Is that too much to ask?
I love you so much, Ty. I wish we could be together again. But I guess we both need some time to heal. Don't think I won't miss you every second of it, because I will.
All my love, Kit. (Hopefully yours one day)
Author's note:
What a coincidence that of all the times my friend could have forced me to listen to all the Taylor Swift songs and made me get a bit too obsessed with her, she chose the time when I was writing chapter 13. This was not planned. What the hell?

The novel also explores power dynamics between different supernatural races, reflecting on historical real-world conflicts and prejudices experienced by various groups. Book Notes
If you're a fan of young adult fantasy and paranormal fiction, Clockwork Angel is a must-read book. The vibrant and imaginative world-building set in Victorian London is certainly a standout in the genre. Cassandra Clare has masterfully crafted a well-rounded and complex plot that keeps you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end. One of the most remarkable elements of Clockwork Angel is the diverse cast of characters. Tessa Gray, the protagonist, is a strong, intelligent, and resilient young woman struggling to come to terms with her supernormal powers. On the other hand, the Shadowhunters, demons, and warlocks in the story have distinct playing roles in shaping Tessa's choices and moral values. The way Clare layers her characters and intertwines their stories will make it difficult to choose sides as each character has their flaw. Will Herondale, for instance, sees himself as the broken, sarcastic shadow hunter drenched in the painful secrets of his past. Even so, he manages to keep his guard up and hide the pain behind his snarky façade. Jem Carstairs, on the other hand, is a gentle, kind, and brave warrior who has emerged from his traumatic past with a profound perspective on life. Clockwork Angel flawlessly explores themes of love, loyalty, sacrifice, and power dynamics between different supernatural races. The novel raises moral questions about the necessity of violence in the fight against evil and how far one should go to protect the truths they hold dear. Clockwork Angel has its unique blend of adventure, romance, and action that is sure to pull any young adult reader into the supernatural fray. As you get to the end, be assured that the unanticipated twists and turns will leave you with an undeniable urge to read the next installments in the infernal devices trilogy. Read the full article

Jace, Kit, and Mina shenanigans
Jace was visiting with Kit; Clary was spending time with her mother and Luke, as she always did when Jace went on his monthly visit to Kit. And they would tell each other all about their day when they went to bed together that night.
Jace would never have said it out loud but he wanted Kit to rely on him and need him, he wanted to be needed by him. He wanted Kit to trust him, but more than that he wanted Kit to know he really did care for him.
Tessa had also recently had her baby, Mina. She had said Jace should come by and meet her.
Tessa and Jem were good people, and Jace just hoped Kit wouldn't be like he was and push away from his found family, and hold them at a far distance. But he remembered people had to follow their own journey and learn things for themselves. He just wanted Kit to be happy. But Jace also knew, like him, Kit had some baggage and it made it difficult.
"Jace?" said Kit. They were sitting at the kitchen table drinking tea.
"Yeah. . .?" he said, realizing he hadn't been listening for the last few minutes.
"You didn't hear what I said, did you?" Kit sighed.
"I was zoning out thinking of interesting things," he teased.
"Probably not that interesting, considering it's you," Kit shot back playfully.
Jace grinned. This kid would be just fine, he thought.
"So," said Jace, "you're a big brother now."
"Yup. And I'll be great at it."
"There you go. There's the Herondale in you."
Kit stared at him with amusement, then said, "Tessa says you should hold Min Min."
"Min Min? Is that a  another nickname of hers?" If so Jace had to admit it was very cute.
"Yes. She has many nicknames," said Kit. "Because she is adorable."
"Kids and babies usually are."
Kit looked up. "You like kids, don't you?"
"They're alright."
Kit looked at him suspiciously. "Uh, huh." He then asked. "Well, are you and your hot fiancée Clary gonna have any?"
Jace choked on his tea. "What—what?" He thought he was probably flushing, as Clary always made him do even when she wasn't around. And Kit calling Clary that should be weird but he wasn't wrong, Clary was hot and his fiancée.
"Just saying, I'd make an amazing babysitter," Kit winked. "And I could teach your children all about memes and the future stuff, as well as turn them into my side. along with Mina. of course. They would be the best generation yet."
"Pffft," Jace let out.
It's true Jace and Clary had talked about having kids, but it was never a definite serious talk. Though Jace did want kids. "Why are you asking me this?"
"No reason."
"Uh, huh," he said. That was their thing, 'Uh, huh.'
Jem walked in then, holding who Jace assumed was Mina. "Hello, Jace," said Jem. "How are you?" He was smiling the warm smile that he he always had these days; Jace had thought it was the kind of smile that made you want to open up and trust. Jem was that kind of person who radiated kindness and warmth and goodness.
"I'm doing just fine," he said. "What about you?"
"I am amazing," he exclaimed. "Silly melon, is so beautiful and precious." Another cute nickname, he thought. "Would you like to hold her?" Jem asked.
"I. . .uh. . .sure," Jace said, hearing the unsureness his own voice, not knowing why it was there. Jem placed Mina in his arms; he couldn't help but remember holding Max for the first time, remembering that for the first time he had been absolutely terrified. Babies had always seemed so small and fragile to him, and at that time he had no idea how they worked. Of course, after Max Jace figured out that as he had said, they were tough. Max was not so little anymore, and now was on about killing all the demins, Jace was a very proud uncle. He looked down at Mina, she looked like Jem, he thought, but he could see Tessa as well. "Hello, Mina," he said.
The baby opened her eyes, looking up at Jace with an expression of curiosity. well, he assumed that's what it was. "curious are we?"
"She is," Kit put in. It was such a sibling thing, he thought.
Jem was watching the three of them with fondness, and a little sadness. Jace wondered if he was thinking of his parabatai Will Herondale; Jem had told Jace about him, and couldn't imagine not having Alec or being alive without Alec. It had made Jace feel a deep kind of sympathy for Jem.
Jace repositioned Mina in his arms so he could look her in the eyes. "So," he said. "Are you going to prank and trick your big brother?"
Kit stuck his tongue out at Jace, and Jace rewarded Kit by sticking his own tongue out right back at him.
Mina giggled, Jace felt his heart skip a beat. He'd made her giggle. It reminded Jace of hearing Max giggle for the first time, it had instantly defeated Jace, in a sense. Blueberry had had a place in Jace's heart from the beginning, Jace couldn't help but want to protect him, it had been the same with Rafe, and even young Emma and her braveness. And Jace thought it would probably be the same with Kit and Mina; he had a soft spot for kids. He had also realized that he had cared for Max, his little brother, the same. But that was a place that Jace tried not to venture to, as it only broke his heart all over again. Jace remembered how Izzy had told him that Max died clutching the toy soldier he'd given him all those years ago, it had shaken Jace. Max's death would always leave a missing piece in their family.
"I take that giggle as a yes," he said.
Jem laughed softly.
"Or," Kit said, "we might prank you endlessly and be chaotic rascals that haunt you."
"Bring it on, Kittiroo," Jace said, using the nickname he had for Kit. Knowing it was longer than his actual nickname but he gave a nickname to kids he liked. And Kit liked it, but would never admit it, ever.
"Whatever, Jacey Jace," he said.
They laughed.
——————
[ Two years later ]
Mina was now two, which meant her and her big brother Kit were up to no good when they came to visit or Jace went to visit them.
They both enjoyed playing tricks on Jace. And to think he made them cookies and tea. And played piano for them.
Jace was walking down one of the Institute corridors, looking through the open doors along their walls, trying to see if he could find the little trouble makers.
He was peering through one of the empty rooms when something came up behind him and said "Boo!"
He turned around, pretended to be scared as he saw it was little Mina. "Oh, you got me," he said.
She laughed. "I always get you."
He smiled at her. "Where's Kit?"
She shrugged.
"Little loyal one, you are," he said. "But if you tell me where he is, I'll give you a cookie."
Mina seemed to be considering this. "Come," she said.
Mina led him to another empty room, where they found Kit.
"Traitor!" he said.
"It's not her fault—" Jace began.
"Not Mina. You," Kit pointed. "I know you bribed her with cookies. You know we can't resist cookies."
"What can I say," said Jace. "I'm a master at bribery."
"Uh, huh," Kit said with a kind of sassy sarcasm. Kit also said 'Uh, huh.' in a way to say he is amused but very doubtful
"Hey, man. I can't help it, cookies are good," said Mina.
"It's not your fault, Min Min," said Kit. "It's the bad man's fault."
Jace gasped in pretend hurt. "The very implicaction of that is hurtful."
"Good," Kit said.
And Jace went over to lift the boy up. "You forget I'm bigger and stronger than you."
"No!" exclaimed Kit, but he was laughing, and Jace always liked to hear him laugh out loud.
"Fight him off, Kit," said Mina.
They ended up wrestling on the floor with Mina cheering for Kit like the loyal sister she was. Them when they were both tired they burst into laughter.
——————
Kit, Jace, and Mina were sitting on a couch while Jem talked about reincarnation; 2 old Mina wore a serious face for her age.
"You see this is why I believe in it so strongly," said Jem, beaming.
"Yes, I see," said Jace.
"It is interesting," Kit said.
Mina nodded.
"Just think about it," Jem said, "you come back in a different form or something new after you die."
Jace wasn't sure he wanted to do this again, and by the look on Kit's face it appeared he felt the same.
"So is that why I'm so exhausted?" asked Kit, "because I've lived so many lives? And keep doing this shit again?"
It was a fair question to ask, Jace thought.
"Kit, no," said Jem. "And don't say that word in front of Min Min."
"Alec says something like that to me all the time," Jace put in. "Except it's usually 'Jace no!'"
"Yeh, well, you're both chaotic dum dums," said Mina.
They all looked at her.
"Wat?" she said.
Jem seemed to be wearing a look of amused agreement.
She was two and yet so smart, and had so many words at times.
"I prefer the term not afraid to take chances," said Jace.
"It's a Herondale thing," put in Kit.
Jace grinned at him. "There you go, bud."
Mina rolled her eyes, she also had a lot of sass for her age. Jem stared at them with a sort of affectionate exasperation.
——————
Jace was sitting beside Kit while he showed him memes and what they meant. Mina came to sit down beside them.
"Jace," she said.
"Yeah, Mina?"
"So you're like my great kind of nephew, right?"
"Great great great or something, yeah."
"So than I am like your great something aunt?"
"Yeah. . ." This would never not be weird.
"Does that mean I get to boss you around?"
Jace didn't know what to say to this.
Kit looked up from his screen. "Wait, does that mean technically I'm your adoptive great something uncle, now?"
"I. . ." Jace had to admit he didn't know what to say to any of this. "Are you two trying to confuse me?" he asked.
They both grinned mischievously.
Jace sighed.
"Hey, dear Nephew," Kit said. "Make me some cookies."
"Dear Nephew," Mina added. "Get us tea."
"You two think you're hilarious."
"Wrong," said Kit, "we know we're hilarious."
"Yeah well," Jace said, pulling them both into the hug, "I'd like to see you get free from my hug."
"No!" They both exclaimed, then tried to get free which turned into laughter from them all.
——————
Jace heard his phone buzz. He looked at it and saw that it was a message from Kit, he'd sent Jace a meme. Jace didn't always understand them, but apparently they were like jokes. He replied with laughing emojis.
He exited his messaging app and stared his phone background; it was a picture of Max, Rafe, Mina, and Kit in the art room with Clary, who was teaching them to paint. He smiled at it. It was odd to say, but they were his kids in a way and he felt this strong urge to protect them from the world that would try to shut out their light.
He remembered the first time Kit had seen he'd taken picture and used it as his phone background. Kit looked surprised, as if he couldn't think of why Jace would do that. Jace ruffled his hair and quoted one of his memes to him that day. Kit liked to communicate with memes, and so Jace tried his best. Kit had also called Jace a mom a few times, though he wasn't sure why.
His phone buzzed again. This time it was Emma, her message said, "We need to form the sword-blondes club *winking emoji*" Jace couldn't help but laugh, then replied, "The world would've be able to handle that."
He had so many kids and young people who were dear to him now. Sometimes he thought back to his old self, who didn't have much of anyone and who believed that love was weakness. But now, when he looked at these kids, he knew that was lie. Now, he knew he was strongest because of love. He barely remembered it, but thought about the time he first met Jem, he'd been Brother Zachariah then. He'd told him, 'We fight best when that which we love is on the line.' or something along those words. It made Jace smile, to think somehow all this connected, the universe was a strange thing.
He then looked down at the engagement ring on his left ring finger. At some point him and Clary would work toward building a family, and have kids of their own. It both excited and frightened Jace; he wanted to be a father, of course. But he didn't want to snap one day and see his father come out, he didn't want his children to ever have to see something like that. Clary told him he wouldn't be like that, and she was always right, usually. These kids in his life now though, he felt were proof that he could be a good father.
He opened his phone back up and texted Kit a meme.
He was rewarded with, "Well, I'll be damed. He's learning!"
Jace replied with, "Watch your language."
"You watch your own language, Mr. acts like my parent."
Jace laughed. Kids were so odd yet so precious, they were the future, he thought.

I see it’s ‘being sad and angry for Alastair’ o’clock. I will add that when Elias came home and Cordelia moved out he was alone with no escape because London is racist and home was bad and even though he could go to cordelias house he would risk being insulted simply for existing
yesss all of this!!!!
bc you came to haunt my inbox nonnie I just had a realization I want to share:
so I added "family tree" by isabel pless to my elias is a bad dad playlist and it absolutely does fit the carstairs but it also fits the lightwoods and the herondales? it fits from the perspective of someone who has been born into a family of hardship and has seen what their family has been through but hasn't necessarily been through all of that themselves (i.e. losing a child).
but the thing about the lightwoods and the herondales is that will and gabriel are both very much the type of people to hide their pain behind jokes and stories and sarcasm. i was a bit taken back by how casually the demon worm granddad thing is talked about but I really think they embrace it as a story to hide the painful truth behind it (i.e. gabriel being forced to murder his father, everything that happened with tatiana).
the issue is that will & gabriel's children (+ matthew) haven't actually experienced that kind of hardship (besides the miscarriage, which I'll get to in a second) and I genuinely don't think they understand how the show they put on covers up how difficult these things actually were, how they actually affected them, etc.
which makes it very hard for them to understand how difficult the things alastair is going through are, how they actually affected him, etc. so you can see how easily we get the victim-blaming that we've seen and how easily his trauma is ignored or reduced. because uncle will thought he was cursed by the demon that killed his sister, uncle gabriel slayed the demon worm that his father became, and they're fine. it's no big deal.
this obviously also makes things worse when they start to go through traumatic shit, like matthew and his mother's miscarriage. because they've never been taught to address trauma in a healthy way. they've never been taught how it affects you and how you think and how you interact with the world.
this isn't a dunk on their parenting at all. they wanted their kids to live a life free of pain and suffering, including that of their parents, but parenting is not black and white and something you did to protect them can actually hurt them as well.
I don't include thomas in this because while gideon absolutely goes along with gabriel and will's antics, he's much more reserved and I think he made sure his kids understood that what actually happened was horrifying and this is just one way people deal with those types of things. that's why thomas understands alastair so much better and is more sympathetic towards him (because not everything is just romantic feelings and horniness).
please let me know your thoughts!! this just makes a lot of sense to me and explains some things that confused me! I just wish now that there would be a scene in COT where Will realizes all of this and would have a Talk with them 🙃

I still think Celine and Rosemary should have ran away together with their herondale babies and lived happily ever after. Or well, as happily as they could, I don’t even necessarily mean romantically run away, I think Celine and Rosemary saw a kindred spirit in each other but life took that connection whatever it was away from them.
But imaging younger Jace with baby kit is very cute.
The amount of blonde sarcasm and depression might be too great tho.
CELINE AND ROSEMARY IN THE SINGLE MOMS AU IS SOMETHING WE DESERVE.

The Devil's in the details, and Cupid's in STI clinics
Ao3 LINK
Summary: “Come on! We’ll make a day of it!”
“No.”
“It’ll be like when we were kids- like a boy’s night out!”
“No!”
“Come on, Alec!”
“For the last time, and I can’t believe I have to say this, no, I will not go to a STI testing with you!”
Jace is persuasive, Alec really hates his brother, and Cupid is laughing maniacally from wherever that bastard hides from people.
For @shadowhunterbingo Square filled: First Date
............
“Come on! We’ll make a day of it!”
“No.”
“It’ll be like when we were kids- like a boy’s night out!”
“No!”
“Come on, Alec!”
“For the last time, and I can’t believe I have to say this, no, I will not go to a STI testing with you!”
Alec rolls his eyes. He puts the last washed dish to dry on the rack, then grabs a kitchen towel to dry his own hands, all the while Jace’s breathing is loud on the speakerphone.
“I’m pretty sure my neighbours can hear you breathing, idiot.” Alec rolls his eyes, switching from speakers to handset with a tap.
“It’s important to stay safe, brother, even if the frequency of someone’s sex life might qualify them for priesthood.”
Alec rolls his eyes. “Fuck you, asshole.”
“Yes and we both need to be tested before anyone does that.” Jace’s chuckle comes out as tinny, the call quality clearly dropping. “Tell me, since when’s the last time you got tested?”
“Last year.” Alec answers after a beat.
“As someone who cares about your physical well being, I am concerned. As someone who cares about your love life, I am concerned with a capital C.”
“You’re insufferable.” Alec rubs his temple wearily. “Fine, I’ll go with you.”
“I’ll pick you up at ten.” Jace says. “Wear sensible shoes.”
“I hate you.”
----------------
Alec does, in fact, hate him at least a tiny bit. Especially since he’s twenty minutes late. In pouring rain. On his only day off in two weeks. Finally at a quarter to eleven, Jace’s old Toyota shows up.
“What the actual fuck, dude!” Alec yells at him as soon as the door opens.
“I’m so fucking sorry, okay?” Jace notices the tremors in Alec, and turns the heat all the way up.
“What the hell happened?” Alec rubs his hands together to generate more body heat. “I’ve called you like a hundred times.”
“The car got stuck. I got down to see what’s wrong, and my phone slipped out of my pocket and into a puddle. Then I saw the tire got punctured. I had to run home and get a stepni.”
“For the love of God.” Alec swears.
“Do you still wanna go today?” Jace asks. “I won’t mind if you say no. I know you’ve been working at the office for weeks straight.”
“I’m fine. Let’s just get this over with.” Alec sighs. “Besides, you’re right. Health is an important issue. Especially if you’re disowned by your parents and have to live on your own without any safety net to fall on if you do accidentally catch something.”
“Hey, you know you always got me and Izzy, right?”
“I know.” Alec gives him a tight nod.
“Hey Alec, you know what I just realized?” Jace smirks with a hidden joke. “You’ve got a friend in me.”
“If you play that song on a loop again I swear to God!” Alec warns.
“Too late!” Jace hits the aux button with a shiteating grin.
Alec groans into his hands. “I hate you so much.”
-----------
“Er- Jace?”
“What?”
“Jace!” Alec hits his brother with his elbow. “What do I say?”
“What do you mean?”
“I can’t just go and say whatever comes to mind!” Alec sounds horrified. “What am I gonna ask, ‘hey come here often?’ Don’t be ridiculous.”
“Just go up and ask about our appointment.” Jace nudges him towards the counter.
“Our appointment was seventy five minutes ago! I can’t just go there and ask about it after we’re so late!” Jace detects the slight panic in Alec’s voice.
“You’re asking them for a rescheduling. With only one other patient in the office waiting. It’s not even that big a deal. Just go up to the counter.”
“We need a game plan.” Alec seems ready to plan a battle from the look of it.
“You goddamn introvert.” Jace shakes his head. “The receptionist is not a monster. They’re not gonna try to eat you for trying to reschedule!”
“Hi there!”
Jace and Alec jump just as the partition slides open all of a sudden, the cheery voice of the receptionist floating through. The pancakes from breakfast sit heavier in Alec’s stomach with every second he spends looking at the receptionist.
“Sorry to jump you both like this.” The beautiful man smiles. “But we’re going on break soon and since we have a birthday party later, we were wondering if we can finish up with all the appointments before we take a long break. I really hope you understand.”
“Oh, yeah, of course, I mean- we totally understand- whatever we can do to- actually you know what, our appointment time’s already over, I mean- how important is a STI checkup? Pff, not much, I’ll say.” Alec chokes out a nervous laugh.
“God, it’s like looking at a trainwreck in slow motion.” Jace covers his eyes with a hand.
“Um….” The receptionist- Magnus, Alec reads the name card- looks between the two of them confusedly.
“What this human disaster here,” Jace sends a disappointed glance towards Alec, “was trying to ask is, can we reschedule an appointment from about an hour and a half ago? We had a flat tire and the rain really blocked the roads.”
“I’m sure I can squeeze you in for a quick swab test.” Magnus smiles sweetly, tapping away at the computer. “Someone will be with you shortly.”
“Thank you.” Alec offers him a small smile.
“So, couples coming together for tests is very good for the relationship.” Magnus nods knowingly. Alec feels like he’s choking on air.
Jace chuckles, sarcasm heavy in his voice. “Oh yeah, we were practically joined at the hips since we were ten. But Chucklebunny here turns out wanted to be joined at the hearts too. He always says I’m the one for him, and vice versa of course.”
“You’re so annoying.” Alec rolls his eyes at Jace’s antics.
“You wuv me.” Jace counters.
“Doesn’t make you any less annoying.”
“Mr Lightwood?” A woman in blue scrubs comes in, a board in hand. “We’re ready for you. Follow me please.”
“Go get’em tiger.” Jace pats Alec as he gets up. Alec gives him the middle finger casually.
“My name's Dr Catarina Loss, I will be doing your exam today. I know this is an invasive procedure so if at any point you feel uncomfortable, just let me know, and I’ll….”
Catarina’s voice wafts away as she directs Alec to the exam room. Jace settles in with a magazine from the table, waiting for his turn.
“Who’s that cute boy with Cat?” Meliorn walks up to Magnus’s station, signing out for his break.
“Alec Lightwood. He’s here to get tested.” Magnus answers forlornly. “With his boyfriend.”
“All the hot ones are taken, huh?” Meliorn sighs.
“Tell me about it.” Magnus nods in agreement.
Simon runs in, chart board in hand. “Magnus, you got my next patient?”
“Shouldn’t you be on your break right now?” Meliorn points out from behind the counter.
“I’m pulling in some extra time.” Simon shrugs. “What? I need the new Nintendo switch.”
“You do you.” Magnus hands him a receipt. “Here you go, patient details.”
“Thanks.” Simon nods before calling out the name. “Uh, Mr Herondale?”
“That’ll be me.” Jace smiles. “Oh hi there.”
“My name’s Simon.” The brunette smiles. “ Please follow me. I’m gonna prep you before Dr Roberts can do your check up.”
“Well, Simon, you can prep me anytime.” Jace winks. Simon’s ears tinge pink with blush as he walks the blonde to an exam room.
“Did he seriously just flirt with Si while his boyfriend’s getting tested?” Magnus looks at their disappearing forms.”Un-freaking-believable.”
“Maybe they’re in a poly relationship, Magnus. Don’t judge.” Meliorn tuts.
“Well, I’m pretty sure Mr. Lightwood's not.” Magnus shares a look with his coworker. “Anyway, you’re right. None of my business.”
---------------
“Overtime is awesome.” Simon practically skips his way towards the reception. “I have a date!”
“Cool!” Meliorn fistbumps the brunette. “Who is it?”
“It’s that patient I prepped for Maia earlier. He plays the piano and he’s coming to see the band later.”
“Did he say anything about who he came with here?” Magnus asks, ignoring the warning look Meliorn sent his way.
“Yeah, he said his brother can take the car and won’t mind if I gave him a lift to the venue after I get off of work. He even joked that his brother would probably be mad that he pulled this. Why?”
“Brother, huh?” Magnus cocks an eyebrow. Meliorn looks at him pointedly. “What! He asked out Simon. That makes it our business.”
“What are you talking about?” Simon looks between the two, confused.
“Hi again.” Alec walks up to the counter. “Do you have the payment receipt for me?”
“Hello.” Magnus turns to look at Meliorn shaking his head one last time, before deciding to just day fuck it to professionalism. “Can I talk to you privately for a moment?”
“Uh, sure.” Alec nods, clearly thrown off track. Magnus walks up to the waiting lounge away from the counter, Alec hot on his heels.
“Is there anything wrong with my test?” Alec asks, distraught. “I know I should get checked at least every six months, but last year’s been so busy and I-”
“It’s not about your test. I’m so sorry, it must’ve seemed like that.” Magnus smiles apologetically. “We won’t have the results till tomorrow anyway.”
“Oh.” Alec's expression clears for a moment, before turning more confused. “What did you need to speak to me about then?”
“It’s about your boyfriend.” Magnus takes a deep breath. “I think he’s cheating on you.”
“What?” Alec asks, looking a little lost.
“I know, I’m so sorry.” Magnus winces. “I probably shouldn’t have been so blunt. It’s a terrible thing to hear, I know. He asked out one of our nurses and I had to tell you.”
“Um.” Alec offers his input in the conversation, ever so eloquently.
“One of my coworkers told me you guys could probably be poly, which again, is fine, but after those things your boyfriend said about you thinking he’s the one for you, and vice versa, I just had to say something.”
“Wait. You-” Alec narrows his eyes. “I’m not poly. I don’t have a boyfriend. We’re not dating.”
“Oh my God, please tell me you guys aren’t married.” Magnus feels horrified. “Simon’s gonna be devastated if he finds out.”
“Who the hell is Simon?” Alec feels the conversation is changing every other second. “What are you talking about?”
“Hey Alec, there you are!” Jace walks in, car keys spinning in his finger. “Can you take the car home? This cute nurse gets off duty in ten minutes and we have sort of a date, if you catch my drift.”
“Are you serious right now?” Magnus’s eyebrows threaten to vanish into his hairline. “Talking about cheating right in front of the man you married?”
“Married?” Jace looks at Alec, questions clear on his face. “What is he talking about, Alec?”
“I don’t know exactly.” Alec looks back at Magnus. “We’re not married. We’re not dating. He’s free to date all the people he wants.”
“What?” Now it’s Magnus’s turn to lose track of the conversation.
“Yeah, and it’s almost double the amount of people because my brother here never actually goes out to date.”
“I’m busy with work, okay!” Alec protests weakly.
“Wait, hold on. Brothers?” Magnus looks at the two. “You two look nothing alike.”
“I’m adopted.” Jace clarifies.
“Oh.” Realization finally dawns on Magnus. “Wait, then why did you say those things earlier?”
“I was joking?” Jace shrugs. “I thought it was obvious.”
“Oh, my God.” Magnus tries to hide his face behind his hands. “I am so, so sorry. Oh God what have I done! Please don’t report me.”
“You were just trying to save someone from a bad relationship.” Jace shrugs. “Nothing to report.”
“Better a false alarm this time than an actual abusive one slipping by next time.” Alec smiles. “Though watching DuckTales with Jace snoring should qualify as abuse on its own.”
“Rude.” Jace glares at his brother, mumbling something about bloodthirsty beasts. “Listen, it’s been about ten minutes and I really think I have a shot with Simon. I gotta go.”
“I’ll take the car home, don’t worry.” Alec nods. “You can come by tomorrow to get it.”
“Thanks, bro.” Jace pulls Magnus aside while Alec finishes up with payment at the counter. “We good here?”
“Yeah we’re good.” Magnus gives him a nod of acknowledgement. “Sorry I accused you of cheating. On your brother.”
“It’s cool.” Jace shrugs. “Speaking of brother, you should ask mine out.”
“You think he’d be interested?” Magnus looks back at the man signing some papers at the counter.
“I think he started stammering when he saw you first, he couldn’t be gayer if a very gay spider bit him, and lastly,” Jace spares a glance at his brother, “he’s the best man I’ve ever known. He deserves someone who can look out for him. Like you did today.”
“Besides, there’s nothing wrong with a little fun at least.” Jace shrugs. “I’m pretty sure Alec’s forgotten what that word even means.”
“I’m over at the counter, not in a different room you idiot. I can still hear you.” Alec’s glare is imminent. “And I’m plenty of fun. It’s just yours and mine definition varies. By a lot.”
“Is that so?” Magnus cocks an eyebrow. “I have two tickets to the ice skating rink tomorrow. Maybe you could join me, that is, if it fits your definition of fun?”
“Yeah.” Alec smiles. “I’d like that.”
“Now are you glad I dragged you here?” Jace’s eyebrow wiggle meets Alec’s death stare.
“I still hate you.”

Take Me With You
(For my @shadowhunterbingo square: Traveling | Jimon, Rated Teen, referenced alcohol but no archive warnings/other warnings) (Read on AO3) “I don’t need a bodyguard,” Simon insists. “It was one stupid letter.”
“The letter wasn’t stupid,” Jace says, already regretting his appointment to this job. “It was a death threat, by someone who’s sent multiple things to your unlisted apartment.”
“Well, no one knows where I live on the road, which is where I’ll be for the next three months,” Simon points out.
“Oh, yes, the total inability to track you from a list of cities you’re going to and the dates and times you’ll be there. You’re right, no one will ever find you that way,” Jace says, his tone dripping with sarcasm and more than a little condescending. Simon isn’t a no-name, but he isn’t famous-famous either, and Jace hoped that’d make him a little less awful to put up with than Jace’s usual high-profile assignments. So far it’s the opposite - Simon isn’t taking this seriously at all, which is somehow more frustrating than too much importance being put on minor perceived threats.
Simon sighs. “Fine.” It certainly doesn’t sound like he’s fine with it, but Jace isn’t here to argue. He’s here to do a job.
“Great,” Jace says. “You won’t even know I’m here.”
---
That ends up being a complete lie. Of course, when Jace first imagined blending into the background of Simon’s tour life he hadn’t taken into consideration the fact that Simon drove his own van, which would just be the two of them for extended periods of time.
Jace can tell that he’s putting a damper in the way Simon normally functions during his tours, mostly because he’s quiet while they drive. Then he’ll say something, start to ramble, catch himself rambling, and fall abruptly silent again in a repeating pattern.
“Sorry if I’m cramping your style,” Jace says after one of these repetitions, speaking loud enough to be heard over the music playing in the background.
“You’re not,” Simon insists.
Jace is dubious. “What would you be doing if you were alone?” Jace asks.
Simon doesn’t even hesitate before answering, “Scream-singing at the top of my lungs with the windows down. It’s like, my tried-and-true road trip routine.”
“...so do it. Don’t let me stop you,” Jace says.
“My manager hates it because he’s convinced one of these days I’ll end up losing my voice before a show. It’s probably for the best I’m not,” Simon says before falling silent again.
Jace doesn’t push it, nor does he comment when Simon starts to sing to a song that comes on about half an hour later, his voice growing louder and louder until all the windows are down and he’s shouting lyrics into the cool night air.
Jace has to fight the urge to join him. Normally he doesn’t have an issue staying focused on a job but Simon has this disarming way of making Jace want to relax around him. Somehow what he thought would be his easiest job to date continues to throw surprising complications his way.
Still, he keeps his mouth shut and enjoys Simon’s singing as they continue driving into the night.
---
Watching Simon with his fans is nerve-wracking. There’s no telling who might be a threat, not when everyone seems so down-to-earth, much like Simon himself. There aren’t any obviously obsessive fangirls and normal tells like knowing too many personal details is just the norm, with multiple people casually asking Simon about how his Bubbie Helen is doing or about the cat he left at home with Clary during his tour, or the most recent book he’s been reading and chatting about online. It’s difficult to pick out a potential stalker when everyone knows what Jace would typically consider more personal details than usual about Simon.
Jace watches these pre- and post-show encounters with a feeling more like he’s observing conversations between old friends rather than a musician and his fans, signatures and photo ops aside. Simon knows some of them by name, remembers birthdays mentioned over social media or live chats, and even recalls previous conversations. It’s impressive.
Dressed in plain clothes so he blends in with the crowd, Jace grows increasingly impressed with Simon the more time he spends with him. Plenty of people claim to be humble, but few often are in practice. Not Simon. Simon is everything he told Jace when they first met. He’s the same way with his fans that he is in private with Jace, which is the same way he is with his family and friends - Simon’s just, well, Simon, honestly and earnestly and unapologetically.
It’s refreshing. It’s also just another thing for Jace to push to the back of his mind, because he doesn’t need to like the guy - he just needs to protect him. Simon looks up from the table he’s signing CDs at and shoots Jace a beaming smile, and Jace has to actively force himself not to smile back and simply nod his head in acknowledgment instead.
“It’s an assignment, Herondale. Get your shit together,” Jace mutters to himself from the corner of the room. It’s a reminder he repeats more often over the upcoming weeks than he’s comfortable admitting.
---
“Please,” Jace begs after the first two weeks of shows. “I will pay for a better hotel. Let me pay for a better hotel.”
Simon is shaking his head in response before Jace finishes the request.
“Why?!” Jace glances critically around the room. “Do you want to get murdered in a shady motel? Just because I can keep you alive doesn’t mean we have to actively test it every night when we could have a door that doesn’t look like my 11-year-old brother could kick it in.”
“You have a brother?” Simon asks, ignoring everything else Jace said as he tosses his duffel bag (because Simon doesn’t even have a proper suitcase) onto a bed Jace feels the instinctive need to run a blacklight over.
Jace hesitates to answer because this is a job and he isn’t meant to share personal information about himself with his assignment. It’s strange because normally the people he’s tasked to protect are such self-absorbed assholes they barely spare Jace a second glance, let alone casual conversation.
He’s aware that the pause he takes after what should be a simple question is way too long when Simon frowns, brows pinching together.
“Two brothers, actually. One older, one younger, and a sister,” Jace finally decides to share. It’s all he intends on saying, not wanting to be rude and not answer at all, but when Simon brings up his own sister and keeps talking, keeps asking curious, harmless questions, Jace finds himself answering without thinking.
Simon is easy to talk to - maybe a little too easy to talk to, because the next thing they know it’s 1am and they need to be up and back on the road at 6.
“Get some sleep, Lewis,” Jace says finally, taking a few extra minutes to secure the door before doing one last perimeter sweep. When he gets back he pretends he doesn’t notice Simon, still awake, hastily close his eyes and pretend to sleep the second Jace gets back in the room.
---
After the third week, Jace insists that staying at nicer hotels is a matter of security and finally convinces Simon to pull into the parking lot of a proper hotel. One with room service instead of vending machines, plus a gym and a pool. Jace tells himself it’s a matter of security as well, and not a reaction to Simon complaining about having several nights of terrible sleep and some back and neck pain from the old, cheap mattresses.
Jace certainly doesn’t correct Simon’s assumption that this is covered in the contract when in reality Jace is fronting the extra cost himself. After all, this is as much for his own benefit as it is for Simon’s, right?
That’s what he tells himself as he opens up more around Simon as well, sharing a drink or two when Simon insists (never anything enough to impair his judgment, and only ever when they’re back in a room for the remainder of the night), telling a few more personal stories, and… flirting?
Jace isn’t sure, but occasionally when Simon impulsively runs into an ice cream shop in a new city and gets a cone for each of them, or points out a storefront display with a leather jacket he thinks Jace might like, or leans his shoulder into Jace while laughing at something sarcastic Jace says… yeah, sometimes Jace gets the feeling that Simon might actually like him.
Then Jace just as quickly tells himself that it’s just Simon being nice, because Simon is nice, and because of course Simon’s going to be on good terms with the guy he’s stuck with 24/7 for two months. Jace is working for Simon, and their relationship is strictly professional, however pleasant it may also be.
It’s that hard line Jace knows they won’t cross that allows him to continue to open up more, because Simon’s safe. He’ll never see the guy again when all of this is over.
“You’re a good person, Jace,” Simon says one night after a lengthy conversation.
“...what?” Jace isn’t expecting that.
“You know that, right?” Simon’s tone is just shy of insistent, and certainly not rhetorical.
“Why do you say that?” Jace asks instead of agreeing, because… well, because he doesn’t know that. He tries, but he’s made some shitty decisions in his past, and hurt a lot of people, intentionally or not. And Simon doesn’t even know him, so Jace really doesn’t know where this is coming from.
“Just… the way you talk about yourself sometimes. Like you always have something to prove, or make up for... or like you have to justify everything you say. Sometimes I get the feeling you don’t think very highly of yourself even when you’re acting like God’s gift to mankind,” Simon adds with more accurate insight than Jace is comfortable with.
And now Jace really doesn’t know what to do with that.
“What are you, a philosopher now?” Jace mutters, still avoiding any sort of direct commentary on Simon’s way-too-close-to-home observation. “Go to sleep, Simon. I don’t need you too tired to focus on the road tomorrow.”
Simon looks like he’s going to argue but doesn’t in the end, leaving Jace alone with his thoughts in the newly settling silence of the hotel room.
It feels surprisingly pleasant to hear those affirmations from Simon, and Jace considers for the briefest moment what it’d be like to just be friends with Simon outside of their circumstances, to have these discussions and delve deeper into both of their pasts, humoring more of Simon’s personal questions and--
--and everything he can’t let this turn into over the next few weeks. Fuck.
Maybe there’s some harm in opening up after all.
---
They’re a little over halfway through the three-month tour when Jace realizes that perhaps his harmless crush on Simon is stronger than he realized. Jace watches from his usual spot in the corner as Simon signs CDs and sells band t-shirts and poses for photos, which is what he always does. But with every flirtatious laugh and every arm Simon drapes over someone’s shoulder or wraps around someone’s waist, Jace feels the desire to pull Simon away... and it isn’t because he’s in danger. It’s because Jace is jealous.
Jace grows sullen at the realization, arms crossed in front of him as he forces himself to watch Simon with his fans, because this is his job. The more he watches the more he doesn’t even think Simon realizes he’s doing it. Jace knows what active, intentional flirting looks like, but this is just Simon being his natural charming self, and Jace isn’t sure if that makes the whole thing better or worse.
Because it starts to dawn on him with a bit more meaning now that the way Simon’s been with him is the way Simon is with everyone. Jace just gets to experience it more often than everyone else right now. That doesn’t make their conversations special. It doesn’t make Jace anything special to Simon. And hell, maybe it’s just been a while since Jace spent this much time with someone else, too. Maybe he should work on writing off his own motivations as easily as he’s writing off Simon’s because his feelings are far from professional right now.
When the crowd disperses and Jace goes to help Simon wrap up his gear and load it back into the van (something that’s become routine for them, though not strictly in Jace’s list of expected duties) Jace is quieter than usual.
“Everything alright?” Simon asks, catching the shift in mood.
“Yeah. Fine,” Jace says curtly.
Simon doesn’t look like he believes him but doesn’t press the topic as they toss the last of the equipment into the van and head out.
---
The nicer Simon is toward him, the more closed-off Jace gets. He’s quiet during dinners Simon insists on paying for, stops sharing so much about himself when they do talk, and when Simon gives Jace a guitar pick he fashioned into a necklace for him Jace pockets it with a muttered ‘thanks’ without putting it on. He doesn’t have the heart to totally push Simon away, but he can’t keep growing closer to him knowing it’s all going to end in three weeks.
Jace wears the necklace every day but he keeps it tucked underneath his shirts where Simon can’t see.
Simon eventually stops trying to talk to him entirely, and they spend more and more time in uncomfortable silences. Sometimes Simon insists he needs privacy to work on his music and Jace sits at the end of the hallway of their hotel room listening to the faded sounds of Simon’s strumming.
There are three weeks left in Jace’s assignment when he gets the call that the police managed to track the letters to a girl back in New York: she’s in custody and getting a restraining order put against her, and Jace can come back as soon as he arranges transportation.
Jace hangs up the phone feeling surprisingly upset. This is great news for Simon, and he should be happy for him if nothing else, but that means this is the last night he’ll have to spend with Simon.
The last night he’ll get to spend with Simon.
“Hey Simon, good news. I just got a call from Luke and they tracked down your mystery stalker. You’ll get all the details once you’re back home but they’re already putting the restraining order into place, so you’re good to go.”
“What? That’s amazing!” Simon grins automatically, but it falls back into a frown just as quickly. “Does that mean you…?” his words trail off in question.
“I’ll be able to leave in the morning,” Jace confirms.
“Guess you’ll be happy to get out of here,” Simon says, his smile entirely gone.
“I do miss New York,” Jace carefully avoids the answer he knows Simon’s fishing for. The lie he should give, but can’t bring himself to.
Simon looks Jace up and down, his gaze finally resting on Jace’s face for a long couple of seconds, searching for something there before turning away without another word.
---
Jace knows he shouldn’t go to the show, but he does. He hangs in the back, a real drink in hand now that he’s no longer on duty, and listens to Simon sing the songs Jace knows by heart now. Jace knows from experience standing by the side of the stage that there’s no way Simon can make out any faces where Jace currently sits back by the bar. He plans on leaving before the end, before the lights come on and Simon knows he was there.
He’s a few drinks in when he hears Simon break his usual format.
“How does everyone feel about me trying out a new song I’ve been working on?” Simon asks. The crowd claps and cheers, and Jace shifts in his seat to fully face the stage. “This is a song about feeling a connection with someone, and not knowing when things went wrong, only that they did. And wondering if maybe it was all in your head the whole time...”
Jace feels his throat tighten at those words. He doesn’t have to be a genius to piece together the lyrics Simon starts to sing, fitting them to their lives the past few months, the hope of getting to know someone you’re starting to like, the confusion of being shut out, the uncertainty of wondering if they ever felt the same way you did or if they were just humoring you.
Jace knows Simon well enough to know that this isn’t a coincidence. It can’t be.
Against his better judgment, Jace stays. He stays until the set is over and the lights come on and Simon looks out around the crowd and makes direct eye contact with him.
Because fuck it. He’s leaving in the morning, and if this is all for nothing then he’ll never see Simon again and it won’t matter. But if he’s right…
Jace hangs back, watching Simon smile and laugh and sign CDs and take photos, acutely aware of every time the musician’s eyes wander over to where Jace lingers by the bar. Outside of the fading buzz from the alcohol it almost feels normal: hanging back after the show, watching Simon and waiting for him to make his way over once the crowd disperses. Hell, even the butterflies in Jace’s stomach aren’t new.
“You’re here,” Simon says when he finally makes his way over. “I didn’t think you’d come, since… I mean…”
“I heard your new song,” Jace forces the words out before he can change his mind. “I’d say I liked it, but that seems like the wrong response from the guy who made you think you did something wrong.”
“Not everything is about you,” Simon argues, but the intent falls flat beneath the nervous tremor the words are spoken with.
“No,” Jace agrees easily. “But that song is.”
Simon hesitates, then sighs. “It is.”
“I’m sorry.”
“You don’t have to apologize for not liking me, Jace. You were doing your job, that’s-”
“No. I’m sorry I was going to leave without telling you that I like you. I thought I’d leave and you’d never see me again, that it’d be pointless to get attached. I thought you were just… being nice. Because you’re a good person.” The words spill out of Jace before he can overthink them.
“You like me,” Simon repeats incredulously. “That totally makes sense with, you know, the way you completely stopped talking to me.”
Jace can hear the anger in Simon’s voice and winces slightly. Just because it’s entirely deserved doesn’t make it easier to hear.
“I figured it’d be easier to walk away once this was all over if we weren’t as friendly.” It’s still a shitty thing to have done, and Jace wouldn’t blame Simon for holding it against him. But after hearing that song he couldn’t walk away with Simon thinking it was over anything he did wrong. No matter the cost to Jace’s pride, Simon deserves that much. “And… maybe I was a little afraid that if I got much closer I’d want to cross a line I knew I couldn’t.”
“So you felt it too?” Simon’s words and expression are full of so much hope that Jace almost panics again. What if he isn’t half the person Simon thinks he is after getting to know him in this little bubble of theirs from the past few months? What if he messes this up?
...what if he doesn’t?
“I did,” Jace finally admits. “I still do. And I know I probably ruined any chance I had before, but if I haven’t fucked things up too badly, maybe once you’re back in New York we could meet up for coffee?”
Simon smiles, brighter than the house lights that fill the small venue now.
“Or… or you could stay with me for the last few shows? I wasn’t just being nice for the sake of being nice - I like you, Jace. I changed my hotel routine for you! I wouldn’t do that for just anyone. I don’t know if you have to go back right away for work, or something, but if you don’t I definitely wouldn’t mind the company. Your company.”
Jace considers it for a few long moments, then nods. It’s fitting, he thinks, to drop the formalities and the professional distance in the same setting he started to fall for Simon in. The same setting in which Simon started to fall for him, despite Jace’s best efforts to dissuade him, only this time with no excuses to hold him back. And if Simon’s willing to give him an actual shot after everything, he’d be a fool not to take it.
“Well, I can’t very well leave you to lug all your equipment around by yourself, can I?” Jace says, smiling. “Let me check back in with the office tomorrow morning but I don’t have anything scheduled. It shouldn’t be an issue.”
There’s a pause then, the air between them filled with an almost electric buzz of anticipation. Simon takes the first step closer, bridging the gap between them. There’s no questioning what Simon’s thinking when his eyes dart down to Jace’s lips and back up to meet his gaze again before speaking.
“Can I-”
Before Simon can finish, Jace’s lips are already on his in response. It’s slow and tentative, with each of them feeling the other out, but it’s nice. It’s really nice. When they pull away after a few moments Simon can’t keep the smile off his face. “That was even better than I imagined.”
Jace quirks an eyebrow, smirking fully now. “You imagined us kissing?”
“Shut up and help me load the van.”
The familiar banter and Simon’s easy smile are such an immediate comfort for Jace that he can’t help the light laugh he gives in response. As Simon looks back at Jace it’s with an expression so soft and full of kindness that Jace knows now isn’t the same look he reserves for everyone else.
Jace knows it’s a look reserved only for him this time - and with any luck, for many more times to come.

Summary: When Clave-in-Exile and Downworld answer Seelie Court's request to meet, Ash Morgenstern is declared as King of Seelie but he is challenged by Kit Herondale who announces his legacy. As the boys duel for the crown, secrets start coming to light. But will all these secrets be welcomed?
Known Secrets are Revealed
The mundanes of New York could tell something unnatural was happening in the city. Everyone was keeping track of the thick tension which had settled the city as the fog surrounded England during the Industrial Revolution, anytime now it would happen.
What they didn’t know was that it had begun a long time ago. For weeks New York was being shrouded deeply by the Warlock, Nephilim, and Fae wards. A few hours ago, the parley of Seelie Court had arrived in Central Park with the Seelie Queen herself at the centre. They had been greeted by the Clave-in-Exile, Werewolves, Vampires, Warlocks, Unseelie Court, and Wild Hunt. Confusion had spread through the lower ranks of both sides at such a huge and varied receiving party. It wasn’t as if a war was in talks or were the Nephilim still ruminating over the parley conducted by Horace Dearborn and Oban of Unseelie Court had resulted in the majority of Nephilim leaving their beloved Idris to Cohort.
Even though Alec Lightwood-Bane was now the Consul his ability to put up with bullshit was still low. He had refused the talk, talk, talk, and do no work attitude of the Clave. This was a difficult beginning for them. He was not going to make it impossible by allowing his shadowhunters to whine, refusing to do what was expected, and just being unhelpful to spite others. With Diego Rocio Rosales as the Inquisitor, his load had lessened a lot.
When the Seelie Court had requested the parley Nephilim and the Downworlders had instantly gone on high alert. After all, it was Seelie Court that had aided Sebastian Morgenstern and his Endarkened and they had never apologised. These days the Shadow World trusted the Unseelie Court which had been kept hidden and the tales of its cruelty reaching young ears but had transformed greatly under the rule of Kieran Kingson. The Unseelie Court participating in the change with immense enthusiasm as they too had been exhausted from living their lives like that.
Of Course, the beautiful but treacherous Seelie Court had shown their cards one by one but to their eternal frustration their opponents were completely nonchalant about it, some even appeared bored, something which their dramatic souls just couldn’t bear. The knowledge that Seelie Court and the cohort were in cahoots was a surprise. Though for years now they had been aware that the CohortChort had been watching them, all thanks to the spying done by the ghost of Livia Blackthorn in March 2013. Though the only people who truly knew from where the information had come up were Livia, her twin brother Tiberius Blackthorn (then a centurion in training), Christopher Herondale (the Lost Herondale), and Magnus Bane (the High Warlock of Brooklyn). Magnus had declared that they couldn’t tell the truth as it will endanger Livvy along with Kit and Ty, who had tried and failed to do the necromancy, but one day in the future Livvy would get the credit she deserved while Kit and Ty would be punished for the punishment they had in store.
Janus and Ash Morgenstern were also not a shock. Janus when he had tried to spy on the AU version of himself and his friends had also kissed Clary Fairchild. She had later teased her fiancée of his odd behaviour earlier the evening but had received a negative. Suspicious the couple had discussed this with their friends and had wondered if someone was taking their obsession towards Clary and Jace towards a higher disgusting and concerning level ore this was an atrocious prank. But they were unable to draw out his motives until Maia Roberts had complained that one of her werewolves had been missing for days and they hadn’t been able to find her. Thanks to Magnus’ magic they had found her dead body and of a fae boy who had been identified to be of Unseelie Court. It had worried them greatly but not much as Alec who had recognised the couple from an outing with his family. When Emma Carstairs and Julian Blackthorn had visited the New York Institute as the last stop for their Travel Year, they had concluded that this Jace was Jace Herondale but from Thule. He had been Sebastian Morgenstern’s right hand, someone who after seeing and participating in the unending massacre of his world had lost his sanity and was a danger to them. And if Jace of Thule was here then Ash Morgenstern might be here as well.
What had shocked them was the betrayal of Lily Chen and her Vampires. After the Seelie Queen had removed the oblivion placed on her she had remembered her promise to Janus of Information in return for Raphael Santiago of Thule. Lily with a heavy heart and guilty conscience had aided the Seelie Court.
The Seelie Queen indicated towards her son and said, “By my blood, he is the heir to Seelie, by his father, Sebastian Morgenstern’s blood, he is a shadowhunter, by Lilith, the Mother of Warlocks’ Blood, he has been blessed by the Fallen Angels, and by the Unseelie King Arawn’s experiments, he holds many gifts. I am here to announce his rulership and to should anyone present know of any reason that Ash should not be the King, speak now, or forever hold your peace.”
“We should hire her to conduct our wedding ceremony,” Simon Lewis Lovelace muttered.
Isabelle Lightwood nodded her assent. “With fair folk arranging our wedding it will be bold, beautiful, and dangerous.”
“Not unlike both of you.” Cristina Mendoza Rosales pointed out. The couple shared a smile, ignoring the exasperated looks sent by their friends.
Drusilla Blackthorn hearing this exchange added her own two cents, “You guys should make themes for each program. The wedding ceremony will be of shadowhunter style of course but have the reception in Star Wars theme” Jace groaned. “And how about the rehearsal in the horror theme. You’ll start a new trend.”
“Why horror theme? To depict the horrors of marriage?” Thais Pedroso questioned her friend and received a stink eye for her sarcasm and lack of support to Dru’s schemes. Emma and Jace could sympathise with her for having parabatais who never appreciated their grand plans.
Alec ignoring the childish squabbling taking place behind him spoke out, “I gather that you want your son to be the King but what of Ash? What does he want?”
Silence fell in the park. No one had expected this. Ash Morgenstern was the son of Sebastian Morgenstern and Seelie Queen, grandson of Valentine Morgenstern, would of course be a discriminating, bloodthirsty, power-hungry character. But at Alec’s question, they all had to agree that they were being biased. Once upon a time, Downworld had stood against Nephilim and also to the different factions of Downworlders, Shadowhunters too had butchered them kept their remains as trophies in their houses, even today their Vampire alleys had turned out to be traitors so, no they couldn’t say that they knew anything about Ash Morgenstern.
Ash eyed Alec, a golden metal band hid his forehead, his face blank but his Fairchild green eyes were of a predator honed by the years of captivity in Unseelie Court, surviving in Thule from his own AU father and of the politics in Seelie Court where honeyed tongues had poison and beautiful faces hid grotesque personalities.
“I request you, Consul, to not try to create a rift in between my mother and me. If there had to be a rift it would have appeared years ago. I have heard a lot about you from the rumours and from Janus who had you as a parabatai but knows nothing about you. You are a stranger and why should I believe a stranger’s word over those who are dear to me?”
“Well, I’ll thank the angel that you’ve thoroughly understood the basic instructions given to children.” Kit Herondale said. “At least we won’t have a Snow-White situation on our hand.”
Titters could be heard as the tension slightly lowered.
“Watch it, boy!” Janus growled. “Your sanity ought to be questioned for making merry of such important occasion.”
The Seelie Queen frowned as she stared at Kit. She didn't see any kind of resemblance between him and Jace Herondale then why did he look so familiar?
Kit rolled his eyes. The blasé persona achieved after spending years at Shadow Market, the tumultuous times in which his Nephilim heritage had revealed and of course the Herondale he was made a striking combination, hiding a brilliantly sharp mind which could see through every single of actions of his enemies.
“You were born sometime before 2009. You should be in 3rd grade now not going on and declaring yourself as King. Have you even completed today’s homework? You are spoiling your son too much, your majesty. He will turn out like Draco Malfoy like this.”
Laughter was clear this time. Ash’s lip curled at the comment. Someone *cough*Simon*cough* even did an improvised ‘My mother will hear about this.’
“He is right.” Ty Blackthorn spoke up. “His age by Fair Folk standard and by ours presents an anomaly. You can’t expect us to see this as anything more than a farce.”
Kit beamed at him before recalling himself. Ty didn’t even spare him a glance.
Livvy who was floating in the middle of both of them fell to her knees and held her hands above her. Glancing at the sky she beseeched, “Grant me the serenity, Raziel . . . this is turning worse by the moment.”
At that, both boys glared at her.
“Ty, the question is not about age but maturity.” Ty’s boyfriend Anush Joshi said.
“Yeah. But we do need to come up with something for this. What if tomorrow Ash calls us to announce he is making his child the ruler? Fae do age rather strangely. Surely there must be something to do.” Mark Blackthorn crowed.
Hong Yeon Woo of Seoul Institute raised replied, “Due to the unique age calculating system used in my country, Koreans consider a year in the womb as counting towards their age, so every one is one year old at birth. Everyone gets one year added to their Korean age on New Year's Day. But internationally it’s bothersome.”
“In Romania, many old families consider their members one year older each time their birthdays come up.” Casimir Munteanu of Craiova Institute answered.
“See? We need to do something about this. Truly mundanes always have answers to any kind of situations.” Mark gleefully said. “And we shouldn’t hesitate to take their lead. We already have Nephilim currency with our Consul on it.”
Alec groaned. Those had been truly trying times.
“In case the nonsense is finished, Consul either swear your allegiance or we shall have to drench this park from Summer to Autumn,” Janus called out.
The threat didn’t go unheard. Clary and Julian felt sick at this horrible implication to their painting. Kit exchanged a look with Tessa and Jem. They both were concerned but Tessa gave Kit a determined nod and Jem squeezed his shoulder supportively. There was no doubt in them for him only love and trust.
Before Alec could say anything, Kit interrupted. “We won’t swear our allegiance.” His joking demeanour had vanished. “For I do have a reason why Ash shouldn’t be King.”
Everyone looked at him curiously. The Seelie Queen got a sinking feeling as she once again looked at Kit.
“To join their Courts together Seelie Queen and Unseelie King made a truce that the child born through their union would inherit both the Courts. They had a girl named Auraline, the First Heir. The king who wanted a son was displeased but still kept her away from the Queen who was incensed to be parted from her daughter. Then there was a prophecy that the First Heir upon reaching their full power all the Faerie would fall under shadow. The King was enraged and the Queen was terrified. The war between the Courts grew even more fierce as the people thought that the First Heir was cursed. Auraline who had never even asked for the powers or the prophecy scared for her life escaped to the mortal world which she found beautiful. The Unseelie King however did send Riders of Mannan after her. She visited the Shadow Market where Downworlders and Mundanes unaware of her birth never called her cursed. Decades later she fell in love with a magician at Shadow Market known as Roland the Astonishing. He too had a secret of his own. As they both confessed how they were wished dead for crimes, not of their own they decided to run away together. Auraline through her Faerie powers made sure that Roland lived longer than most mortals. They had a child together and then finally even Auraline’s powers couldn’t keep death away from Roland. When Roland died, Auraline chose to be with him.”
One could hear the leaves rustle from the breeze as the parley intently heard Kit. The Seelie Queen was expressionless but internally her heart ached at the injustice done to her daughter. Jace and Clary wondered why Kit knew First Heir’s story in such detail. Mother Hawthorn connected the dots and as she looked at Kit, all she could remember were the rumours of when he had been found in LA’s Shadow Market where he had been kept hidden and not long after had left with the couple who had visited her years ago. He hadn’t been seen since then. He too had been forced into hiding just like Auraline. She was just glad that the love between Kit and the couple was real. It was what Auraline had deserved and thankfully Kit had received.
Kit continued, “Auraline’s child had a child. And so it went. There is still a First Heir in the world.”
In unison, the parley gasped.
“Tobias Herondale and Eva Blackthorn’s child, Ephriam was secretly taken to safety by Catarina Loss before the unfair justice of Tobias’ crime was carried out by the Clave. The line from Ephriam is known as the Lost Herondale. His grandson was Roland Loss. For those who don’t get it, he was also known as Roland the Astonishing.”
Kit’s last comment undoubtedly made things clear to all. And panic started to replace the tension. ‘What now?’ was the biggest question in everyone’s mind.
“The First Heir Line and the Lost Herondale have intertwined ages ago. Hunted by the Riders of Mannan, unwanted by their people, shunned by the Courts and the Nephilim, they found their refuge in the Shadow Markets.”
Hypatia Vex, Juliette the Queen of Bueno Aires Shadow Market, Mother Hawthorn along with other Shadow Market denizens couldn’t help but smile.
“I am Christopher Jonathan Herondale. I am the Lost Herondale and the First Heir of Faerie.”
At once shouting began from both sides of the parley. Confusion, fury ran rampant. One thing was in agreement that they all had been blindsided.
Kit looked unconcerned though his hand was on his double-aged straight sword. Tessa and Jem shifted into a battle stance. Emma and Julian slowly inched towards Kit. Magnus, Catarina, and Ragnor added wards in front of Kit. Kieran made a motion and the Unseelie guards split in two one surrounding Kieran and the other unsurely moved towards Kit. Cristina and Mark though didn’t move from beside Kieran. Livvy hovered above Kit but not before shooting him a betrayed look, which her younger sister was sporting too. Helen and Aline standing beside moved to shield them.
Out of the corner of his eye Kit saw that Ty was unsurprised. “I have been wondering how you made the Riders’ horses disappear that day in the Brocelind Forest.” He answered at Kit’s questioning look. Livvy and Dru shifted their glares to him.
"You did hit one of the riders with your slingshot." Kit spoke as he remembered.
Alec, Jace, Clary, Isabelle, and Simon couldn’t decide which one of them was more shocked, especially considering Magnus was unsurprised. Jaime Rocio Rosales standing beside his brother couldn’t deny that Kit was really and truly intriguing. That day in the LA institute’s library he had given Eternidad to Cristina, Mark, and Kieran, he was curious about the boy who was distinctly not a Blackthorn yet he fit in them just like Kieran. It was later when he had visited Diego in New York, he had learned who that boy was.
A growl interrupted the noise. It was Janus. He barked to Kit, “Where is the proof? How do we know you aren’t lying?”
Jace cut in, “How do we know you and Ash aren’t some faerie illusions forcing us to do your bidding”.
As Janus glowered at him, all Jace could think was how close he had come to share this man’s fate. He grabbed Clary’s hand, his palms sweaty but she only smiled at him and squeezed his hand.
Ash’s voice brokered their attention. “Then Christopher, why don’t you and I duel for the crown?”
“Well Asher, I find it difficult to finish my daily chores, there is no way I am going to shoulder the burden of ruling a realm.”
Anush goggled at him, Jaime choked, Julian nodded prompting an amused smile from Emma, Livvy and Dru facepalmed, Ty, smiled a little, Jace was ready to make a smartass comment was silenced by Alec and Clary.
“We will duel Christopher. Duel to death for the crown.” Ash snarled. His eyes narrowed at Kit.
The parley wondered what would be the outcome. They couldn’t decide between Ash and Kit both scions of important Fae ancestry but shadowhunter blood ran through their veins as well. The Seelie Queen was trying to gather her wits. She was not fond of Nephilim and definitely not of Herondales but she couldn’t ignore how Kit bore such a strong resemblance to her Auraline. Absently she wondered if the magic they had done on Auraline had passed down to Kit as well.
Kit tilted his head and after thinking for a moment sighed and nodded. Panic and excitement ran through the parley. The Seelie Queen and the Downworlders and shadowhunters who knew Kit started speaking at once. Only Jem and Tessa were quiet. They squeezed his shoulder and then stared directly at Ash.
Both blonde boys moved towards each other effectively silencing the parley. They drew out their swords and circled each other. Finally, Kit stepped at him.
“He shouldn’t have made the first move.” Jace concernedly said.
Janus chuckled at Kit’s impatience and inexperience.
But as Ash moved to block it was clear that Kit had feinted throwing him off guard and moving closer to the Seelie prince. Kit’s blade was about to slice Ash’s side but using faerie speed Ash swiftly moved. Kit circled Ash so he was always at his back, the latter after few moments stopped turning.
“Christopher’s fighting style is unique,” Anush noted. Ty observed Kit and wondered if he was mixing Mundane, Shadowhunter, and Downworlder styles.
When Kit lunged at Ash who readily parried him and moved so he could end the distance in them and draw him in a space where he could control Kit. Ash started moving faster, his moves rougher, all his blows landing heavily on Kit.
It was clear to viewers that though Kit fought unusually he did lack Ash’s training and experience as well as his savagery not to mention stamina.
Bored and smiling a smile sported by his grandfather and parents Ash moved to land a fatal blow on a panting Kit but he sidestepped just like Ash had done earlier. Ash couldn’t stop himself in midmotion and Kit moved closer, when he hit Ash’s hand with his sword’s hilt. Ash winced and that time was enough for Kit to twist his hand, remove the blade from it. Reeling him in Kit sild Ash’s sword at the back of Seelie prince’s neck and then pointed his sword at his throat.
Once again silence reigned as Kit panted and Ash stared at him wide-eyed. They could hear Janus cursing, Emma and Jace whooping, and Simon cheering, “That’s our Aragorn.”
Kit raised an eyebrow at Ash who had no way to move without getting his head chopped off. But Ash was not just a shadowhunter he bore many more powers which Seelie Queen had advertised when she had introduced him. So, he raised his hands and blasted Kit with a huge fire of darkness.
Screams erupted as Kit slammed against a tree and fell on his stomach unmoving. Before anyone could move to help him, Janus barked orders and Seelie forces surrounded Ash and Kit, but they did look reluctant. While they didn’t like Kit for the First Heir prophecy, taking orders from Janus who didn't have a speck of Fae blood in him irked them.
Ash leisurely walked towards Kit and picked up both swords. As he reached Kit, he prodded Kit with his foot further infuriating Kit’s friends and allies. But Kit made no move to get up. Ash’s brow furrowed and taunted Kit, “What happened? Ran out of your tricks? This was a duel for the crown of Seelie, it was never going to be of just our swordsmanship prowess. Powers are also to be tested but you didn’t use them. Either you can’t use them or the shadowhunter blood ran true and the First Heir doesn’t have powers. Well, which one is it?”.
There was no answer. Ash got on his and hit Kit with his sword’s hilt on his shoulder. He turned towards Janus moved towards them. Just then Ash heard a moan and turned towards the sound. Hidden by the Seelie guards who had their backs to the boys, Ash leaned over Kit so no one in the parley could see when Kit’s blue eyes opened and he grabbed Ash’s wrist tightly, a smirk on his lips.
Everyone looked away when a blinding white flash lit Central Park. When they finally regained their sights, terror filled them as they realised that Ash and Kit had disappeared.

I have another 😅 prompt #56 with platonic Will and Gabriel
Thank you so much for the prompt! This isn’t my best work, but I had such a fun time writing the dialogue, that I didn’t have the heart to rewrite it. Hope you enjoy!! (Also, check out @livvyheronstairs‘s INCREDIBLE fic [here’s the link] about Matthew and Lucie! She’s extremely talented!)
Prompt #56: “I did it to protect you
Prompt list
Gabriel Lightwood and Will Herondale were patrolling together when Will threw himself between Gabriel and a demon, ready to pounce from behind. It probably would have ended Gabriel’s life, had Will not managed to stab the demon. This victory was short-lived, however, as Will was not able to prevent himself from getting terribly injured in the process. Gabriel, being the only other Shadowhunter present, carried him until they reached the carriage as Will had seemed unable to gain balance after the blow to the head. If they were mundanes, they would have been deeply concerned. Luckily for Will, they weren’t.
Gabriel might have reflected on a time like this, had it not been for the constant flow of words coming out of Will’s mouth. Why his coordination? Gabriel thought miserably. Why not his speech?
“On a scale from “this is the best day of my life!” to “By the Angel never in my wildest dreams could I think up a better scenario!!”—please note the double exclamation, Gabriel—how would you rate this experience?” Will asked.
“I want to jump off a bridge.”
“Have you always been this cynical?”
“Only when I’m being pestered and forced to carry you when I could very much leave you on the side of the road.”
“Oh, but then Cecily will call off the engagement when she finds out you left her dear brother to die.”
Gabriel rolled his eyes and he walked through the ragged streets of London with Will in his arms. This was definitely not how he planned on spending the evening and he was getting a couple of side-eyes from mundanes on the streets.
“They must be wondering what a dashing gentleman is doing with a dirty scoundrel.”
“Now, Will, don’t make such self deprecating jokes. It makes me feel bad about myself.”
Much to Gabriel’s surprise, Will laughed.
Once they were back in the institute and the Silent Brothers had come to heal him, Gabriel came to visit Will, who was grinning like a boy. Suddenly, Gabriel stopped on his tracks.
“Did you throw yourself in front of that demon just so that you would have an excuse to see Jem?”
“No,” Will said, defensively.
“Really?” Gabriel asked sarcasm dripping from his voice. He took a seat in the chair next to Will. “Why did you do then?”
Will mumbled something.
“What?” Gabriel leaned in to hear better.
“I did it to protect you.” Will said, significantly louder and an undone of bitterness.
“Protect me? Why? You’ve never cared for me.”
“That’s not true. I’ve started tolerating you because, for some unknown reason, Cecily loves you and I couldn’t bare what would happen to her if you were killed.”
Gabriel sat back in his chair. Will looked elsewhere. The room was nothing if not awkward.
“I don’t want things to be tense between us anymore.” Gabriel blurted out, breaking the silence.
“What?”
“I feel like we’re tense around each other.”
“We aren’t tense.”
“Will, half of the time, I don’t know whether we are joking around with each other. Sometimes, we brawl over idiotic things and sometimes, we brawl over much larger things, which are still idiotic, I’ll admit. I don’t want our ‘pride’ to get in the way of relationship. We both love Cecily. I’m going to marry her in a couple of weeks and if there’s one thing I don’t want to do, it’s drive you away from your sister. My father did that to me, and there’s not a single day where I don’t remember that. And if there’s anyone I don’t want to bear a single resemblance to, it’s my father. So; William, I’m sorry for how I treated you and Jem in the past. I’m sorry I was horrible to Charlotte, Henry and Sophie and I’m sorry I said such terrible things. I’ve apologized to all of them, but I don’t think I’ve ever apologized to you. And if an apology doesn’t fix anything, you can rest assured that I will never revert to my ill ways of the past.”
Will blinked. “My goodness Shakespeare, way to pull a monologue out of your ar—”
“You know what? Nevermind, this was idiotic.”
“Gabriel, wait.” Will sighed. “Listen, I won’t lay here and pretend that I was a saint to you. Besides, I guess you could say I started this feud by breaking your arm.”
“You only did that because I came charging you at you.”
“And you only did that because I humiliated your sister. I would be lying if I said I wouldn’t have been inclined to do the same to anyone who hurt Cecily. You only did what you had to to make Tatiana feel better.”
“No. I’m not letting you take all of the blame, Will. I was just as cruel as you were, and unlike you, I have no excuse for my behavior.”
“Sure you do! You had a lousy excuse of a father who watched your every step. I’d say you came out surprisingly well, considering your upbringing.”
“Did you just compliment me?”
“Maybe.”
Gabriel smiled. “Well, I think sometimes Cecily is lucky to have you as a brother.”
“Gabriel,” Will said with a smirk, “are you— Wait a moment. Sometimes?!”
“Yes. She doesn’t feel very lucky when you interfere in her love life.”
“Is that only Cecily’s opinion?”
“There’s a chance I don’t enjoy it either.”
Will smirked. “What a shame it’s my moral obligation as an older brother to embarrass my sister.” He paused, “and I guess my lousy excuse of a future brother-in-law.”
Gabriel rolled his eyes and got up. “And here I thought we were going somewhere.”
Tessa walked into the room to see Will just as Gabriel was leaving.
“He’s all yours,” Gabriel told her and happily closed the door behind him.

Other TSC characters about Clace
And then we met you, and it was like he woke up. You couldn't see it, because you'd never known him any different. But I saw it. Hodge saw it. Alec saw it - why do you think he hated you so much? It was like that from the second we met you. You thought it was amazing that you could see us, and it was, but what was amazing to me was that Jace could see you too." - Izzy
"Does it bother me seeing Jace and Clary together? No. not at all. In their own incredible weird way they're great for each other. They belong together." - Simon
"You love each other — anyone can see that, looking at you — that kind of love that can burn down the world or raise it up in glory." - Lilith
"He'd burn the whole world down till he could dig you out of the ashes." - Alec
"I saw the way he looked at you. and anyway, everyone knows Jace Lightwood has a girlfriend and she's Clary Fairchild." - Emma
"She reminds my Parabatai he wants to live." - Alec about Clary
Jace took her hand, drawing her close. His arms went around her. Clary laid her head against Jace's shoulder, and closed his eyes; Alec knew what he was feeling, for he felt it hum, whenever he was with Magnus. That inner wonder at the enormity of love, how the joy of it was so intense it was nearly tinged with pain. Jace rarely spoke of his feelings, but he didn't need to: Alec could read them on his face. Jace had chosen Clary to love, just as Alec had chosen Magnus, and he would love her forever and with his whole heart. - Alec
"If they broke up I might have to stop believing in love entirely." Emma
"Jace Herondale and Clary Fairchild weren't heroes in a vacuum — there was a war. They were forced to make choices." - Cristina
Clary kissed Jace on the cheek and murmured something in his ear before she headed out of the room. Jace watched her go, his expression momentarily soft. Mark felt a sharp stab of envy. He wondered if he would ever be like that with someone: they way they seemed to match, Clary's kind playfulness and Jace's sarcasm and strength. - Mark
