Random headcanon that the other elvish realms think that the Greenwood Elves have SOME-FUCKING-HOW developed **significantly** superior hearing compared to the rest of the elvish cultures/races. When I say 'significantly' I mean so significantly that it genuinely scares them a little bit.
A lot a bit.
It seems to them that the Greenwood Elves are capable of hearing and understanding even whispered conversations from MILES AND MILES AND MILES AWAY. Even when the distance is so great elvish eyes cannot even see a dark spec on the horizon, Greenwood Elves can still successfully eavesdrop on what is happening.
The other realms have, of course, come up with many of their own theories as to why and how they're capable of such things. Including but not limited to: Evolution that happened after most of the Noldor left for Valinor to help them survive the Dark Scary Times, a permanent enchantment of Melians that can be genetically passed down to one's offspring, an Extremely Elaborate Lie, a side effect of one of the plants that they eat, a sign that they've made a deal with Melkor to be his spies (this theory is banned from being openly spoken about in Imladris, if it is, you get 1 single warning before Elrond yeets you out of the valley his damn self. You are not welcome back for at least 100 years, and you have to apologize before you're allowed back in.)
There is, of course, an incredibly simple and straightforward reason for this perceived 'super-hearing' which is: The elves don't hear things, the trees do and just relay the information (or at least the gist or important bits) back to the elves. They can hear what you say from 1000 miles away because there's trees literally everywhere.
But since the other realms don't speak to/with the trees in the same capacity as the Greenwood Elves, the thought that this is possible literally never occurs to them. And the Greenwood Elves think the entire situation is too funny to ever explain it.

what race are the vonbarth kids? : ] and other various characters, if you feel like answering!
This question is kinda hard to answer since the world of TB has a unique world map and none of the countries we know exist for them. Plus, due to birds always having had the ability to migrate wherever, logically pretty much everybody are mixed.
However, IF the characters were to be placed in a modern setting and had to label their ethnicities then this is how they would categorise themselves:
Von Barth siblings (Terren, Frey, Isaia) - Middle Eastern/South West Asian (Indian) and WhiteGreenwood siblings (Jeremiah, Byron, Celine) - North East Asian (Korean)
Laura-Louise - Latina , Julian - Mediterranean , Miche, Haleigh - White , Leah - Māori , Goliath - African (Senegal)

CIS 101 Entry 3, 2/17/18
2/17/18,
Today I had gone to see my little sisters volleyball game. Her name is Haleigh, and she is in sixth grade at Mt. Greenwood grammar school. My sister is pretty well at the sport, and I must applaud her for how much effort she puts forth to be better. My little sister is no one to be fooling around with. She puts a straight face on during volleyball, and does not take it off until the very end, when and if her team wins. Haleigh will be a great volleyball player one day.

I think that by the time the end of the third age starts nearing, Legolas and the other Greenwood Elves would be able to say just about anything they wanted about their home and be immediately believed.
In the century leading up to the War of the Ring the other elven realms know for a fact that Greenwood has:
1) An enchanted river that immediately puts people to sleep
2) Spiders the same size or bigger than a horse, that also happen to be both venomous and carnivorous. That talk.
3) Huge Motherfucking Bats.
4) Countless Orcs, Wargs, and Goblins.
5) Until recently a Fire-Breathing Dragon vibing in the nearby mountain
7) The Real and Actual Devil’s favorite minion basically pitched a tent in their backyard. .
Legolas could look at Elladan and say: “At night, the Fire Bugs come out. Which are a lot like the Fire Bugs outside of the forest except that they have the power to set things on fire with their minds as a defense mechanism.”
As long as Legolas said it with a straight enough face, he could say literally whatever he wanted and Elladan would have absolutely no reason to think that he’s lying, and basically has no other choice than to be like “Damn that's crazy, so do you all just sit perfectly still at night not to scare them or what?”

Also, I was going through your posts here and it came to me: when did Elrond realized that Thranduil was just That Old?? And how exactly did he reacted?
Not only Thranduil's father was one of the awakened (and he's pretty much part of Thingol's family), but also that his best friend for a long while was Luthien of all people??? That he saw The Fucking Sun come up on the sky for the first time?? Idk why but I'm sure that whatever reaction he had was the funniest thing for Thranduil to witness for some good time lmaokdjs
Hello lovely, thank you for the ask!! (and all your reviews!!!!!!!)
To be honest, I don’t think that Elrond, being the avid horder of history that he is, would necessarily be surprised about Thranduil’s actual chronological age (especially because that his Mother and Father in law are also Old As All Hell, in the the case of Celeborn lived in the same city as Thranduil for most of the early days.)
What I DO think shocked Elrond so badly he nearly snorted wine out of his nose on several occasions is the casual comments about exactly what shenanigans Thranduil was up to or otherwise experienced the entire time. And also probably gave him several heart attacks as Thranduil altered his entire perspective on historical events/ people.
For Example #1
Elrond: “Celeborn once told me that the only competition that Beleg Cuthalion was ever disqualified from for poor sportsmanship was during a match that was with you.”  Thranduil: “Sounds about right. If I recall correctly, I was also disqualified for poor sportsmanship during that match.”  Elrond: “Wow, you two must have hated each other or something to get so carried away.”  Thranduil: “Not at all. Beleg owed me a favor and so I got him to throw the match so that another could win.”
Example #2
Elrond: “I read somewhere that the first sunrise was the most beautiful one, and that nothing will ever come close again.”  Thranduil: “I mean, if you consider going Entirely Blind from the strength of the light with literally zero warning as ‘beautiful’ then, yeah, sure. It's irreplaceable.”
Example #3
Thranduil, to mostly Celeborn and Celebrian after another song in the Hall of Fire about how Beautiful and Perfect Luthien was: “Once, Luthien and I stole an entire barrel of wine and tried to see if we could drink it all before either of our fathers found us and at some point she got sick at such a velocity that it launched overtop of the entire dining room table without a single drop touching it.  Thranduil after Elrond nearly choked to death in front of him: “When we went to go clean it up there was an entirely unchewed piece of dried jerky which she had apparently swallowed whole, like some kind of feral Warthog.”
At least half the stress of each of Thranduil's visits is Elrond's constant anticipation of some truly Unhinged and (previously) Unreported Lore about history's favorite elves being given to him at any moment.
He’s also never sure when or if Thranduil is making everything up just to get a reaction from him, and Elrond will never know because Thranduil Literally Does Not Care if Elrond believes him or not and therefor refuses to go into any more detail of offer supporting evidence for his claims. Unless of course, the supporting Lore is somehow even more unhinged than the original earth shattering revelation.

Did Legolas and his friends disappear from home and sneak out into the forest to cause mischief for lengths of time as much as Thranduil did when he was younger and growing up? Your stories about Oropher trying to wrangle his escape artists son always make me laugh btw thanks for writing!
No they didn’t, nowhere even close. For several reasons.
First and perhaps most importantly, the world that Legolas grew up in is very, very different from the world that Thranduil grew up in. Greenwood is much more dangerous than Doraith ever was, and Legolas and his friends all have the    T r a u m a    to prove it.
“Sneaking out” the way that Thraduil did was unthinkable. That’s how people die. Quickly. Or even worse, very slowly.
Thranduil used to vanish into a puff of smoke for all intents and purposes, Legolas (if he’s up to no good away from home) doesn't hide WHERE he is, he hides what he’s DOING there. People need to know where you are in case something goes wrong, nobody can help you if they don’t know where you are.
Second, Thranduil learned from his fathers mistakes and whenever Legoals did want to go out into the forest, Thranduil made sure that it happened in a timely manner. With extremely armed escorts, of course. He worked very hard to not make the forest away from their mountain home a Tantalizing Forbidden Wonderland begging to be explored. There was no need for Legoals to sneak out, generally speaking, because his travel wasn’t hindered. And the escorts kept any mischief from happening.
Third, Legolas and his friends….. Really are traumatized as all hell. The only reason they all met each other is because (with the exception of Farlen) everybody they knew and their entire families were violently killed on the same day. Several of them heard and saw parts or all of what happened to everybody else. When they were younger they didn't feel safe being too far away from their Designated Adults.
Fourth and lastly,, they were all significantly more scared of the consequences Ferdan could come up with than Thranduil had EVER been about Orophers punishments. Some things are simply not worth it, and vanishing without a word is definitely one of them.
Unfortunately, for the residents of Greenwoods mountain home, all that simply added up to meaning all of their chaotic mischievous energy was trapped within the safe borders of the mountain home and its immediate surroundings. For over a century.
Thanks for reading and reaching out! Im glad you enjoy them, they're also pretty fun to write I wont lie.

Also, one ask based on your last answered one:
How big was Thranduil's friend group back in Doriath? Like we know he was friend's with Luthien and obviously Ferdan, as I think Beleg was mentioned as hanging around them once or twice, but was there anyone else?
And did any of them survive til the end of the fourth age, or they died in some war/life drifted them apart as time went on?
I think that the group of people that Thranduil was FRIENDLY with was quite large when he was still living in Doriath. Much larger than anyone who met him in the third or second age could easily believe. I think that he was on good terms and friendly terms with most of the “”younger”” elves living in Menegroth that he came into regular contact with. Generally speaking, Thranduil was easier to get along with back then, as long as you weren’t trying to tell him what to do you were probably fine. His good naturedness and kindness was a lot more open to the world back then, rather than something that he kept guarded away and sometimes all but denied its existence. He just wanted to have fun and explore with those who also wanted those things.
He wasn’t just there for the vibes, Thranduil WAS the vibes. And others wanted to enjoy those vibes, but he didn’t really strongly care if they were there or not. He was doing his thing either way, probably with his partner in crime.
However, there were still very, very few elves that Thranduil considered to be real, actual, genuine friends of his that he would trust with anything important or private. I think he probably always had around 2 or 3 friends, likely fellow warriors, but always had a best friend that he spent most of his time with. First Luthian and then Ferdan after she passed away.
I think that Beleg was somewhere in between being real friends with him and being friendly with him for the simple reason that he was Thingol’s Chief Marchwarden and was therefore obligated to report certain shenanigans. So while Thranduil enjoyed his company greatly, he could not be trusted with The Shenanigans under any circumstances.
Other than Ferdan and Celeborn (does he count as a friend if they’re related?) In my little universe, Thranduil only has one other friend from Doriath that made it through everything to the fourth age without dying or losing touch. His name is Maedir, he and Thranduil went through their training together and became friends and remained as such. He’s Ferdan’s right hand man when it comes to training new recruits for Greenwood.

One of the Headcanons that lives rent free in my brain and my heart with absolutely no business being there is that Maglor fought with Greenwood for the last little bit of the war. What I can’t decide on is just how LONG he had been fighting with Greenwood before the War of the Ring ended and Dol Guldur was finally cast down.
It's been narrowed down to two main options.
1) Maglor hears about Legolas joining the Fellowship somehow (maybe Elrond told him, maybe he was in Imladris at the time, doesn’t matter) and promptly appears on Greenwood's borders like: “Hey, I heard you were down a warrior Prince. They’re pretty rare these days, how fortunate that I happened not to be doing anything too terribly important and can come to help. Relax, I don't see any Silmarils around, do you?”
2) Maglor shows up several years before Legolas leaves to bring news of Gollum's escape, maybe after the events of the Hobbit, and joins their military forces. Probably under a new name. But with a very similar sales pitch to the one above.
The decision on whether to accept the offered assistance was not made lightly, especially considering the fact that Thranduil and Ferdan were both in Menegroth when Maglor and his brothers attacked the city and slaughtered a huge portion of its people.
But, while they may not be able to outright trust Maglor, they can certainly trust his hatred for Saroun and everything he touches. And he IS a warrior of legend in both skill and power and there aren't any Silmarils around….
Beggars can’t be choosers and dying kingdoms can’t be too prideful.
Obviously everybody is extremely suspicious of Maglor and follows him around no matter where he is are or what he’s doing. Maglor allows it with nothing but the occasional joke. He also never does anything that could even be remotely considered an act of sabotage, and seemed to make the lives of the Greenwood warriors his top priority.
After he gains their trust, I also think that he would kind of become a silent bodyguard of sorts for the captains commanding the border between Thranduil’s land and Saroun’s.
Thranduil will forever deny the claim, but it's rumored that part of the reason he allowed Maglor into their borders was because he said: “I can’t let Galadriel be the only Grandchild to do something even halfway redeemable, otherwise, nobody will ever hear the end of it. Ever. For all of eternity we will hear about it.”
It was an added bonus that Thranduil, Ferdan, and Maglor got to see Galadriel’s face when she showed up at the last minute to support Greenwood, only to come face to face with the only other elf left on Arda that she thought Thranduil hated as much if not more than he hated her.

Legolas, who grew up in a nation that's been at constant war for basically his entire life. Who is used to seeing evidence of death and destruction. Who knows very well that having or not having one or two items could be the difference between life and death for those you love even at the best of times but especially when you’re at war. Who knows the incredible value of being able to take what you can, when you can from the word around you absolutely 100% loots old buildings/campsites/bodies for all their worth AND THE REST OF THE FELLOWSHIP HATES IT.
The first time the Fellowship notices that he does this, they collectively (with the exception of Aragorn, who has already witnessed this before) lost their damn minds.
It was complete and total anarchy for several minutes.
The more that Legols tried to defend himself that the house was long since abandoned, and the body inside a few weeks away from disintegrating entirely the more feral the rest of them became about the entire situation.
They were all basically scandalized southern ladies.
People might think that the whole ‘fighting evil for the sake of the world’ was the first common enemy the Fellowship had, but in reality it was in fact Legoals’ sticky fingers.
After a while (mostly because the items he takes end up becoming extremely useful on more than one occasion and Legoals insists on an apology from everybody before he’ll use them) the Fellowship stops arguing with him about it and moves on to passive aggressive jokes.
“Oh look, a dead squirrel. Legolas, I suppose you want to take its tail?”
“Maybe we should stop, Legolas might want to take the empty shells and leftover feathers from that abandoned nest.”
It's all fun and games until Aragorn gets the sword of Andruril and summons the army of the dead. Which Legolas oh so helpfully, and repeatedly points out is essentially using a looted sword to loot an entire army of people from an ancestor.

For reasons unbeknownst to me it is VERY important to my little Tolkien heart that Thranduil’s singing voice is a deep base. Like, deep enough that one could be worried they’ll find a Balrog at the end of his vocal range.  The kind of voice that you’re pretty sure you can feel rumbling under your feet and through your bones just as much as you can hear it in your ears. A voice that could genuinely have been made by the very earth itself, that carries for miles and miles and leaves goosebumps on any creature lucky enough to hear it. And certainly to stop in their tracks, whole-heartedly captivated.  A voice that feels inherently magical and otherworldly, but also warm and comforting as it burrows down directly to your soul and wraps around your heart.

Today's ever so slightly unhinged headcanon is that the Silvan Elves in Greenwood invented and were the first ones to practice Stand Up Comedy.
They absolutely didn’t do it on purpose, it evolved organically over time among the warriors to help raise their spirits and pass the time. It started with friends telling each other stupid jokes, and then patrols would take turns telling each other funny stories from their lives. Once they started running out of stories, they began to actively think about other ways they could make the others laugh. Practicing and rehearsing idea’s in their heads, trying to get it perfect for whenever it was their turn next.
The longer the war went on, the more the ‘art’ of it evolved and the farther it spread into the rest of Greenwood's population.

Headcanon that the Silvan Elves in Greenwood the Great have a truly astonishing amount of ‘folk remedies’ for an equally astonishing amount of purposes and remedies. This is largely due to the fact that most (if not all of their ancestors) have always lived in Middle Earth, a place where even though time could not take their lives from them, there still remained many other things around that could.
And wanted to.
Including but limited to: Melkor & his creatures of darkness and all the repercussions that come with them, infection, blood loss, poisoning, starvation, other extreme physical harm.
Since they did not have the help or protection of the Valar, or even Melian they had to start coming up with their own ways to treat and protect themselves against the hostile world around them. Then make sure that their children and grandchildren never forget the wisdom and knowledge that might one day save their lives or the life of a loved one.
As the ages slowly passed their connection with the land around them continued to deepen, and the seeds of knowledge the first ancestors planted bloomed endlessly with new ideas, useless, and remedies. And whatever they didn’t discover or figure out themselves chances are one of their Avari allies did and shared the information.
By the time the third age rolls around the Silvan Elves of Greenwood have many aspects of these ideas so ingrained into the fibers of their culture they don't even notice them anymore. Except maybe when those outside of their realm are visibly confused, taken aback, or judgmental by something that they do.
Which, admittedly, doesn't happen very often for the combined reasons that the Silvan elves are just generally secretive about the things that have helped their people withstand the evil of Arda and the increasingly distrustful relationship between Greenwood and the other elven realms.
I also think that the Greenwood Elves would refuse to ‘prove’ to the other Elven Realms that their advice and remedies actually work, so when they suggest something and are met with disbelief they just kind of shrug and go ‘whatever, your life. Or death.”
I don’t think that this would really change much until after Celebrian marries Elrond, who always takes the Silvan Elves advice at face value (medical or otherwise) At least until proven to be false.
So if Elrond’s struggling to keep somebody alive due to rapid blood loss, Legolas plucks something from his shelves and goes: “Boil this until it's limp and then get him to drink the water. It will slow his bleeding quickly.”
Elrond’s like: “You heard the man! Boil it now!”
Elladan: “But Ada, normally we dry it and use it to prevent infection?”
Elrond: “And Legolas says that if you boil it and get him to drink the water it will slow the bleeding, since when can one plant not accomplish two things?”
Legolas: “If you crack the stem and rub the paste that comes out onto your skin it will numb it for upwards of an hour.”
Elrond: “Three things!”
I also think that's part of what makes Elrond such a successful healer, he’s able to collect knowledge from basically all cultures and races in Arda and compile it all together in one place.

I think that if Elrond and Mereneth ever met, they'd become fast buddies. Not on the level that Thranduil amd Celebrian are, for sure, but they'd DEF bond over medicinal herbs and the best way to cure somebody after they touched/ate some poisonous plant or smth like that.
If Legolas got that much of his personality from his mother, I can assure you that Elrond would be dreading wayy less the visits of the Greenwood Royals lol.
(and I also think that he'd need a moment or two to breath the whole new person that Thranduil becomes in her presence. He'd never seen Thranduil so light and happy and quick to smile. I imagine Elrond looking out the window one night and seeing them dancing together under the stars and the branches of the trees. And he'd def notice the changes and how much her death affected him, having seen the person he was before..)
Btw you can def message me to stop if my asks are getting annoying or smth. I just love your 'verse and your oc's (specially ferdan and your version of galion) so much I think about them All The Time lmao.
An Anonymous Ask that had a Very Similar Question to yours: Did Mereneth and Elrond ever met? Either in Imladris or in Valinor? Because since the two of them are healers, they could probably bond over that (and maybe if still in Arda, Elrond would come to dread less the visits from greenwood cause he knew Mereneth liked him, therefore Thranduil wouldn't be as intimidating lmao)
Elrond and Mereneth get along SO WELL. So well. Unfortunately (for Elrond) they don't get a chance to meet until after they are all in Valinor. Tbh almost nobody outside of Greenwood got to meet Mereneth, or even get to know that Thranduil was romantically interested in somebody but especially not that he had gotten MARRIED before Greenwood had already lost its queen.
Admittedly by the time they get to Valinor Elrond had already much improved in dealing with Thranduil compared to = when they first had to interact with each other politically and then more personally once Elrond and Celebrian had gotten married, they visits were still dreaded significantly less once Mereneth had been reunited with her husband.
Perhaps even eagerly anticipated.
I think that the shock Elrond felt about seeing the change in Thranduil would be a bit similar to the shock he felt the first time he saw Thranduil and Little Legolas interacting with one another. But, more. Seeing Thranduil be kind and tender with an elfling was one thing, but seeing Thranduil be so thoroughly in love and completely devoted to another full grown elf was another thing entirely.
A Bonus For Elrond: After Mereneth was back, I also think that Ferdan and Galion would also be slightly less… Like That™™ all of the time. Partly because Thranduil was less snarky so the other two had less practice and opportunity to add their own snarkiness. Partly because, like Legolas, her unrelenting positive attitude and sunny disposition is contagious to even the grumpiest and most jaded of elves.
(Don't worry they aren't getting annoying literally at all and I don't want you to stop, sometimes it just take a bit to answer things so you'll have to be patient af with me but i love it so much pls don't stop)

Hii!! I was reading your stories and the thought came to me: did thranduil, ferdan, galion and oropher took part in the war of wrath in your stories? if they did, I would love to hear what part each of them took in it!
Hello!! Thank you for reading and for reaching out!   Tolkien never tells us if any of the surviving Sindar from Doriath take part in the War of Wrath (at least not that I could find) but in my little headcanons they absolutely 100000% took part in the War of Wrath, I just have never written anything about it tbh. (Although, Galion would not have ‘fought’ in the War of Wrath at all. He’s adamant that he is not, and will never be a soldier. But I’m sure he found a plethora of other helpful duties to keep himself occupied with.)
Thingol dies and Melian flee’s to Valinor in F.A 503, the Second Kinslaying and Fall of Menegroth happens in F.A 506, the bulk of the survivors escaped to Sirion. Which is the site of the Third Kinslaying in 538. By the time the War of Wrath is ready to start in F.A 545, Oropher and his boys had just gone through such relentless loss that:
Revenge in any capacity probably seemed mighty attractive.
What else did they have to lose at this point?
If they survived thus far, they might as well die trying to actually make some sort of difference. And if by some miracle they happened to survive the War of Wrath too, well, then that was the world's problem.
I also think that Oropher & thus Thranduil, Ferdan, and Galion would have felt compelled to join the fight among Círdan’s host out of remaining love, friendship, and loyalty to him. As Círdan was one of the awakened elves alongside Thingol (Elwe) and in my personal headcanons, Oropher. Even though Círdan developed a fairly close relationship with the Noldor, he remained loyal to Thingol until his death in F.A 503, even going so far as to warn Thingol about the dishonesty surrounding the reason why the Noldor had arrived back to Middle Earth. It’s likely that especially Oropher and Thranduil (but perhaps to a lesser extent those that followed them) would have seen supporting Círdan in the War of Wrath as one final way to serve and honor King Thingol.
Lastly, all of those reasons aside, sitting by in leisure and letting everybody else try and do something about the evil threatening to destroy the entire world simply is not their style.
I hope this answered your question! :)
