Even though Amelia is oftentimes busy with her work, being the self proclaimed best neurosurgeon, she still makes time for her girlfriend, who unlike her, doesn’t have such a mess of a schedule. However, she just came to the realization that date nights haven’t happened in a while. She really hasn’t properly seen Y/N in a while.
Which is why, after arriving back home, Amelia’s first mission is to find Y/N. She goes up the stairs, towards their shared bedroom, still wearing her scrubs. She frowns as she steps into the room. No one is there. It’s dark and the bed is messy, which indicates Y/N has been there recently.
The sound of water hits her ears. Amelia knocks on the door opposite of their bedroom, trying to open it, but it’s mocked. “Y/N?” She calls out, growing worried at the silence coming from the other side. “Are you okay in there?” There’s slight humor to her voice, but it’s only there to mask her anxiety.
A quiet yeah comes from the other side of the door, but it doesn’t ease Amelia.
“You think you could open the door for me?” It takes a while, but eventually Amelia can hear the soft clink of the lock. She opens the door carefully, only peeking her head in first. When she sees fully clothes Y/N sitting under the running shower, she steps in the room fully, closing the door behind her so the warmth of the water wouldn’t escape. “What are you doing?” She has a gentle smile on her face as she kneels near Y/N. She recognizes the look in her eyes.
“I think I’m getting sick.” She whispers. Water droplets are getting all over her eyes and mouth, but she doesn’t seem to care.
“Sick?” Amelia shuts the shower off, getting no reaction from Y/N. She sets the back of her hand to her girlfriend’s wet forehead. “You don’t feel warm.” She states quietly.
Y/N hums. Her hands are hidden in the sleeves of the hoodie she’s wearing. It’s oversized, one of her favorites, mostly because it’s technically Amelia’s hoodie. Her eyes are unfocused, so she rarely blinks, only when water slides over her eyes.
“Maybe getting out of the wet clothes would help?” Amelia’s tone makes the sentence sound like a question, but it’s more of a request, as she is already helping Y/N up before she has a chance to answer. She leads her into the bedroom, not caring about the trail of water dripping to the floors. “I’m going to get you some clothes, okay?”
Amelia starts looking through their wardrobe, picking the coziest looking clothes for the both of them. She helps Y/N out of the wet clothes and into the clean ones before she changes out of her scrubs.
“Have you eaten today?” She’s pretty sure she already knows the answer, and it worries her, since she had a ten hour shift today. Y/N shakes her head, confirming Amelia’s fears. “Okay, I’m going to order us some food.”
After leading Y/N to the bed, she picks up her phone and orders the food that’ll arrive to their house the quickest. She sets her phone back down, making sure it’s not silenced so she’ll hear when their food arrives.
She sits down next to Y/N, leaning her bad against the backboard, she pulls Y/N’s back into her chest. “Can you tell me how you’re feeling?” Amelia pulls the covers over them before wrapping her arms around Y/N.
She sighs, slowly leaning the side of her head against Amelia’s. “I don’t know.” She whispers, her voice slightly wobbly. “I don’t feel anything but I’m feeling everything at the same time. It’s like I’m stuck in a hole and I can’t scream for help.” Taking a shaky breath, her voice turns almost too quiet for Amelia to hear, “it feels like it doesn’t matter if I’m dead or alive.”
“Maybe we could go meet up with a psychotherapist together tomorrow?”
Y/N hesitates. Asking for, or receiving help has never been something she can do easily. “I don’t think it’s that big of a deal.”
“But it is.” Amelia states in a way that leaves no room for arguments. “Mental health needs to be always taken seriously.”
Emotions mull through Y/N’s body. She feels guilty and bad for letting Amelia see, for making her worry, that’s not what she wants. She feels like going to psychotherapy would mame it worse, it’d solidify the fact there’s something wrong with her.
Amelia’s embrace turns tighter, bringing Y/N back to the present. Her hands have started shaking, she didn’t notice. “You don’t have to decide now.” Amelia whispers into her ear. “We’ll think and talk about later, okay?” Y/N nods, letting herself relax for now as she lays on her girlfriend, and tries to forget her worries.

Grey’s Anatomy Has a Toxic Workplace Problem in Season 18 - aka why everyone keeps bullying Meredith into staying in Seattle
(Why is no one talking about this???)
Read my grey’s anatomy meta on ao3! Same format but I would love hear your thoughts
I can’t believe my biggest gripe with Grey’s season 18 is… fair labor practices? I mean, it’s usually more soap-opera stuff. Dead fiances come to life, disappearing girlfriends, surprise pregnancies, etc. etc.
But I keep seeing the same subtle problems arise. I’m going to call this the Webber-Bailey-Fox problem, because it seems that the ‘leaders’ of Grey Sloan Memorial are the most egregious and at fault. In short, why on earth do Webber, Bailey, and Catherine act as if the entire fate of this hospital hinges upon Meredith? Why won’t they let her leave for Minnesota?
She’s a famous surgeon who works there, not a goddess. The hospital isn’t going to magically disappear into dust and shadows if she moves to another state with her kids. If other key characters who are part of the Grey’s universe (Cristina, Alex, Jackson, Arizona, April, Callie, etc.) are allowed to move away and find new jobs, why do her bosses keep guilt-tripping Meredith into staying?
In general I’d give Season 18 a B+. In general my rule about TV is ‘keep watching if you’re having fun. Quit if you’re not!’ and I enjoy spending each Friday morning watching last night’s episode of Grey’s. I thought that many parts of S18 (like the introduction of Kai! Or letting us explore Bailey’s burnout and Maggie’s marriage to Winston!) were handled delicately. But at the same time, Webber, Bailey, and Catherine 一 mostly Webber and Bailey, obviously, since they’re series regulars 一 are just being manipulative toward Meredith.
Again and again on Grey’s, we see management whining whenever people don’t agree with them. In season 2ish, when Bailey considered switching from general to pediatric surgery, Webber was consistently whiny and cruel to her. He acted like she was throwing her career down the drain for changing. Bailey also sort of did this when Jo switched to OBGYN, and when Ben decided to become a firefighter instead of continuing his residency.
The Grey’s timeline is a bit wonky since seasons 1-3 take place during intern year (which I assume is 12 months), but I’d wager Meredith’s literally been working at this hospital for 16 years, give or take. She had her children here. She lost her husband. She dated and re-realized what it means to find love after loss. Is it so wicked and awful that she might want to move to Mayo Clinic instead of growing old and (pardon my pun) grey in Seattle?
During all of season 18, Webber and Bailey are just awful to Meredith. They treat her like a traitor and whine that she isn’t being ‘loyal’ to the hospital where she grew up (reminder: Meredith literally grew up here. Ellis trained at Seattle Grace and there are flashbacks of Meredith as a 6-year-old walking the halls.) If it’s indeed true that Meredith has lived much of her entire life in this one building, why on earth do her bosses keep manipulating her into staying? This is a textbook hostile work environment and it’s so puzzling that no characters in the Grey’s universe are acknowledging it.
A workplace culture where your bosses call you ‘disloyal’ for wanting to submit your 2 weeks’ notice is… not good. No wonder Meredith wants to leave if Webber and Bailey, who are supposedly her old friends and mentors, are so willing to turn on a dime and snarl insults at her.
Don’t even get me started on this Accreditation Council Lady in the finale, who acts as if Meredith’s departure is a key reason why the hospital is unstable. Sure, I assume Mer is good at bringing in fundraising money and good PR (and I know Council Lady feels that she’s been lied to so she’s lashing out), but Mer’s just the chief of general surgery. There are plenty of good general surgeons who can take her place.
And I know, the show is called Grey’s, not Pierce’s or Shepherd’s Anatomy. We all know Meredith is important. But it feels cruel to tell Meredith that she matters so that we can guilt-trip her into staying at Grey Sloan instead of moving away. When does it end? Will Meredith be tied in one place and forced to work at the hospital forever just because they can’t afford to lose her? What kind of awful workplace is this, where you aren’t allowed to leave because people seem to need you too badly? It’s kind of like a desperate boyfriend or girlfriend who refuses to let you break up with them because “they’ll fall apart without you.”
This is an incredibly toxic position from Webber and Bailey, and it makes me dislike them. They’ve been written so oddly this season, acting as if they’re gods who are above criticism and flaw. Their inability to recognize their own flaws is actually the reason they keep hurting the people around them.
So the Minnesota plotline may have its flaws (I’ll get to that later! What on Earth does Mer actually do at Mayo?) but it’s Meredith’s right to leave if she wants to. It’s not like she’s signed some lifetime contract or a blood oath tying her to one place. She’s successful, she’s excited to travel and spend more time with Nick, and the city of Seattle is always going to be haunted in some part because of Derek’s death. Why shouldn’t she get to leave? Why are Webber, Bailey, and Catherine allowed to intimidate and jeer at Meredith? Why do they feel entitled to her time and work? It’s starting to feel like Bailey and Webber are just bad bosses. If you can’t handle the fact that your employees may get a better offer and leave you, you shouldn’t be an employer.

Addison Montgomery x Female Reader 844 words
You woke up to the familiar blaring of Addison's pager going off and let out an exhausted grumble as you shifted to your side, blindly searching until your hand grasped onto a corner of a pillow. In one swift movement you grabbed onto the fabric and flung it over your head and brought it down upon the person sleeping soundly next to you. A groan came from her and you snuggled deeper into the duvet, satisfied with your aim.
Addison forcefully opened her tired eyes as she stared at the page: 911. With a frown on her lips she tossed the duvet off of her and slid out of bed, quickly searching your floor for her shirt and pulling it over her shoulders. With all of her shuffling around it would be impossible to fall asleep - not that it mattered anyway, once you were awake there was no way that you'd be able to sleep until the next night - so you watched as she moved, confidently and comfortably, around your room. Her red hair tucked behind her ears as she picked up her shoes and plodded her way toward you.
"When does your shift start?" She questioned you as she picked up her coat from the floor.
"Two hours," you replied with a small smile, knowing that you'd probably end up in an on-call room. You heard Addison hum before she pressed a kiss to your head and rushed out of the door. The room fell into silence and you sighed heavily; you were already bored, instantly missing her now that she was gone.
You pressed the end of a pen against your lip, your eyebrows furrowed as you stared at the set of numbers.
"Hey," Addison greeted as she stopped at your side.
"Hey," you mumbled back, not looking up from your board, "do you mind having a look at this?" You said as you passed her the board.
"Hmm, that's really interesting," she hummed as her lips pressed into a tight line before placing the board down onto the desk. Your fingers brushed against the edge as you reached for it before you felt a hand begin to push against the small of your back.
"Addison," she hummed in reply, still guiding you through the hospital. "Where are we going?" You questioned as the two of you missed the turning in line to the on-call rooms and straight through the doors to the stairwell.
Addison turned to face you with a grin on her face, pulling you forward as she stepped backwards into the wall. "I've missed you," she mumbled sheepishly to which you rolled your eyes playfully.
"It hasn't even been three hours," you stated, raising an eyebrow at her as her hands snaked around your waist.
"Still.." she whispered, shrugging her shoulders, and pulled you in closer - butterflies swarmed your stomach, god, this woman was unbelievable sometimes. "Are you saying you haven't missed me?" She questioned, getting impossibly closer to your face, and you shook your head lightly with a smile on your face; of course you had.
"Whatever," you sighed before pressing your lips to hers, your arms coming over her shoulders as the two of you made out. You felt her smile against you and you couldn't help but smile in return, her teeth touching your own.
A loud beep sounded and the two of you jumped back. Your breath got caught in your throat - Mark Sloan stood wide-eyed with one hand on the half open door. A heavy silence encased the three of you as you and Addison stared at Mark and he stared at the both of you. You swallowed dryly and cautiously looked at Addison beside you who had her lips pressed into a thin line.
God, this was awkward.
Finally, Mark's lips broke out into, what you could only describe as, a shit-eating grin. The invisible tension was cut and you felt yourself relax slightly.
"Derek is not going to believe this," Mark chuckled lowly.
"Wait, no-" Addison attempted to stop him but he has already turned on his heel and left the way he came. "Mark.." You bit your lip in an attempt to stop yourself from laughing. Addison turned to you in a huff and you quickly let your smile fall, but she could see it in your eyes. Her mouth falling open, beyond belief, at your state. "You think this is funny?" She accused you and you couldn't help the small giggle that left you. "Unbelievable." She huffed, throwing her hands in the air.
"Addie- it's fine, they were gonna find out sooner or later," you consoled. She frowned at you sheepishly; she being the one that had pulled you into the stairwell in the first place.
"Really? You're really fine that they know?" You nodded your head and pulled her in for a hug. Your eyebrows furrowed when you felt her start to shake.
"Are you crying?"
"No!" She said laughing and pulled away from you. "Did you see Mark's face?" She questioned, struggling to get her sentence out in between small laughing fits. A grin broke out onto your face as you nodded your head frantically. The two of you doubled over in hysterics in the stairwell, your laughter so loud people could hear it on the other side.

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It had been a hard, long week at Seattle Grace Hospital. You had spent most of it in the clinic, which wasn’t very exciting, but it had put you on Bailey’s good side, which was always a good thing.
George, on the other hand, had been given a chance to scrub in on an incredible surgery and the patient, unfortunately, hadn’t made it. It had upset him, losing someone so young, and he had been sulking around the halls the past few days.
“Why don’t we do something fun tonight?” you suggested, sensing that his mood wasn’t going to get better without a gentle nudge. Like all the other surgery interns, the job often took a toll on him, and only another intern was capable of understanding their pain.
“Like what?” he asked, not looking up from the chart he was reading.
“I don’t know…Go to the bar with the other interns?“ you suggested.
George looked up at you with a fond look on his face. “You mean, like we do all the time?”
“I’m just brainstorming!” you defended, but you couldn’t help smiling.
You and George had immediately gotten along at the beginning of your internship, and had been inseparable friends ever since. All it took was a certain expression on his face, or a specific tone of voice for you to know exactly what he was thinking. You were smiling, because you knew that fond look on his face meant, ‘I know you’re trying to cheer me up, and going to a bar with Karev is not the right approach.’
So, you tried again. “Or we could go back to the house, watch a movie, have some drinks and snacks? I think Meredith is on call tonight, anyway, so the house will be quieter than usual.”
He notated something on the chart, giving you a nod. “Sure, that sounds nice. Uh, I have to go run some labs, but I’ll see you at lunch?”
“See you!”
It was a few hours later when George put his tray down next to yours on the cafeteria table, flopping down into his seat with a sigh.
“Drinks tonight is just what I need,” he said.
You gave him a sympathetic smile, patting his arm. “I’ll stop by the liquor store after my shift.”
“You’re the best,” George said, and his tone was so sincere, combined with that fond look in his big, brown eyes, it made your face flush.
The moment was ruined when Meredith came to the table, practically slamming her food down as she began to rant about her drama with McDreamy, and you were grateful for the distraction.
George was your best friend. Surely you weren’t interested in him…like that. George O’Malley, who was shy and awkward, who was into all his nerdy shit, who made you laugh more than anyone else, who knew you better than anyone…
Well, shit. That wasn’t a great revelation to have in the middle of your work day. You were falling for your best friend.
Meredith’s voice faded to the background as you processed it. Relationships within the hospital always seemed to get messy. You were co-workers, roommates, friends. If it went wrong, it would ruin so much. But if it went well...God, if it went well, it would be so perfect.
"Earth to Y/N?" George said, his fingers waving in front of your face.
You startled from your thoughts. "What?"
"Your pager is going off. Didn't you hear it?"
"Shit," you muttered, grabbing for your pager as you rose to your feet, already preparing to sprint.
"See you later!" George called after you as you ran from the cafeteria.
Later that evening, you changed out of your scrubs in the locker room before heading out of the hospital, stopping at the liquor store and picking up a few bottles of assorted drinks, making sure to grab George's favorite, as well as stopping at a gas station for snacks.
By the time you made it back to the house, your arms full of bags, George was there to help you bring the bags inside.
You picked a film while George mixed some drinks, curling up beside each other on the couch.
"Cheers to surviving another week," he said.
You smiled and clinked your glass with his.
The film you chose was supposed to be sci-fi, but there was an unnecessary romance plot thrown in, and the drunker you got, the more frustrated you became.
"If the world was fucking ending, I would be less concerned with getting laid," you quipped, rolling your eyes at the television.
George was also pretty tipsy by that point, and he laughed. "I think it's sweet. I mean, he's clearly been in love with her for a while. If you thought you weren't going to live much longer, wouldn't you want to seize the opportunity?"
You hummed, considering it. “But what if the world doesn’t end? And now you’ve just made things awkward.”
“Or you’ve made things better,” George said. He had a giddy smile on his face, like he was genuinely daydreaming about the concept.
“You thinking about someone specific?” you teased, nudging him in the ribs playfully.
“Shut up,” he replied, his cheeks flushed, not just due to the alcohol.
You broke into a grin, his lie obvious. "Oh, you are! Tell me, tell me," you chanted, words slurred slightly as you nudged him repeatedly, even sneaking your hands out to tickle his side.
He yelped, batting uselessly at your hands. "No! There's nothing to tell!" he insisted, but his giggling didn't make the words sound very convincing.
Somehow, you ended up halfway in his lap, still poking and prodding at him and demanding to know his little secret, too tipsy to care about the close proximity, or about the fact that his answer might not be who you wanted it to be.
Thankfully, his answer was just what you wanted, and it didn't even come verbally. In a last ditch effort to get you to stop assailing him, George had grabbed your face and pulled you in for a clumsy kiss.
The movie wasn't even half-finished, but it was totally forgotten as you and George got to your feet, stumbling through the house and towards his bedroom, each moment where your lips weren't pressed together spent giggling.
There were no words necessary, your mouths too occupied with kissing to bother. George had already grown hard in his pajama pants, the imprint of his well-sized cock clearly visible through the plaid fabric.
You laid down on his bed, fingers fumbling to remove your top, and George pulled his own shirt over his head with a big of a struggle, the heat of the moment combined with the liquor making every movement desperate and uncoordinated.
It wasn't long until you both completely naked, tangled in his bed sheets. He held your face with so much care, thumb stroking your jaw as he kissed you.
"Youhave no idea how long I've wanted this," he breathed, lining his cock up with your entrance. "Since the ice breaker before our internship, I swear..."
"Me too," you replied. "Didn't even realize how bad I needed you, but it's always been there."
You two both moaned as he entered you, your fingernails digging into his back. It felt so good, the stretch of his cock filling you. It was a blessing that no one else was home to hear the way the bed creaked, the way you gasped and how he groaned.
As he fucked you, George used his thumb to rub circles on your clit, bringing you close to orgasm as he approached his own.
"Fuck," you breathed. "I'm gonna—"
"Me too," he said.
It didn't long for you to both be finished, laying spent on his flannel bedsheets. From the alcohol and the rush of adrenaline, you both fell asleep like that, naked and cuddled together.
***
When you awoke the next morning, you immediately felt the headache before your eyes had even opened. Weren't you too old, too mature to be getting hungover like this? And you were on-call today, which was just the cherry on top.
Or, so you thought. The real cherry on top was when you opened your eyes and say none other than your best friend, George O'Malley, laying next to you.
Fuck, you thought. Fuck, fuck, fuck!
You jumped out of the bed, and your head pounded in protest. You ignored it, too occupied with the fact that you were naked, your clothes strewn about George's bedroom floor. You gathered them up hastily and snuck out of his room, dashing into your own.
You took a few deep breaths, trying to calm down. Maybe George wouldn't remember! Maybe you could just move on, pretending that it had never happened.
It was wishful thinking, though. Once you had showered, gotten ready for work, and eaten some semblance of breakfast, George emerged from his bedroom, still shirtless, and nearly bumped right into you in the hallway.
"Morning," he said, sounding exhausted. "What the hell did we drink last night?"
"Don't remember," you replied. "I gotta go. See you later!"
You weren't being very subtle. Izzie, Meredith, and Cristina kept questioning why you were acting jumpy, flustered, and hungover.
"Did you go on a date?" Izzie asked.
Meredith chimed in. "Was it someone here?"
"Oh, don't tell me you're screwing an attending, too," Cristina said.
"I just didn't get much sleep," you replied.
Thankfully, your pager beeped and gave you an excuse to leave. You went to the room you were summoned to, expecting to find a patient in need or an attending who wanted you to scrub in.
Instead, you found an empty room with none other than George O'Malley standing in it.
"Hey," he said.
"Hi," you replied, fighting the urge to run right back out of the room.
"So, when I was getting dressed this morning, I noticed the, um...Well, the scratches on my back. I just want to make sure...It was you, right? Like, I didn't do something totally stupid?"
"It was me," you said. "And who says it wasn't stupid? We...We're friends, George, we shouldn't...I mean, I don't want to lose that."
George's face fell slightly, and you focused your gaze on the floor to ignore it.
"Of course," he replied. "Yeah, no, you're right. We were drunk, anyway. It didn't...It didn't have to mean anything."
"Cool. Well, uh...I'll see you later."
You rushed out of the room, refusing to look back at him.
(there will be a part two, don't worry!!)

Maya x Carina x reader (Amelia is reader’s bff)
Prompt: Reader has a car crash with Carina’s car and she feels so guilty that she refuses to go to the hospital and it’s not the best choice.
TW: car crash, seizure
When you open your eyes, your first thought does not go to the probable concussion you gave yourself, nor to the poor light pole you knocked down. No, your concern becomes the car: the Carina's very expensive and beautiful Porsche that you have just crumpled against a stupid pole that you could very well have avoided, had the road not been wet. Your thoughts are interrupted by the sound of the driver's door, yours, suddenly opening.
"Miss, miss can you hear me? Y/n?"
Vic's face appears in front of you, and as soon as he notices it's you, her gaze changes from a calm and placid one to one quite panicked.
"Are you okay? Do you want me to call Maya and Carina?"
Vic unbuckles your belt, intimating you to stay still while she checks you over. She feels your legs, asking if you can feel them. You nod. By the feel of the pain in your ribs, you probably have one or two cracked if not broken ribs, blood is pouring out of your nose since the airbag exploded in your face, and most likely the deep cut on your forehead indicates a more serious concussion than you would have liked but you don't care. The only thing you care about is the car, and right now you really have no other concerns besides.
"Were other people involved?"
"No, just a poor pole. But I don't think it will complain. We need to get you to Grey's Sloan. Montgomery, Warren! Give me a hand, we-"
"No."
Relief floods you as soon as Vic confirms that no one else besides you was involved in the accident. You know full well that it could have been worse, yet you refuse to go to the hospital, you won't let anyone waste time because of your stupid mistake. Carina's car...you destroyed it, the Italian loves that car and you literally crumpled it for her.
"Y/n, you know you have to go to the hospital. Maya and Carina would kill me if they knew I didn't take you to the hospital...please don't make me carry you or call them."
You shake your head, immediately regretting it as soon as you do when a twinge in your head makes you squint in pain.
"No, Carina is going to kill me as soon as she sees what I've done to her car..Vic, you don't understand. She loves this car more than anything, she went to pick it out with Andrew as soon as she got to Seattle-" a sob involuntarily escapes your mouth as your body is shaken as more follow. Tears line your cheeks and though you want to stop them, you really don't have the strength.
"Y/n, Carina loves you more than a stupid car...she won't care if-"
"No Vic, you don't understand, I don't want to go to the hospital, please, please, I can't look at Carina and tell her that I destroyed one of the things that reminded her of her brother. Please Vic, take me home, don't take me to Grey's Sloan. Please."
You plead with her and see her struggling internally with herself, even turning a glance over her shoulder where Ben and Travis, having heard it all, are struggling in the same dilemma as she is. Then, Vic shakes his head and you decide that you have just chosen which battle to fight, at least for the next few minutes.
"I'm sorry y/n but we need to get you checked out and Grey's Sloan is the closest. I'm really sorry."
You shake your head, tears continue copiously to line your face, and the adrenaline slowly begins to fade, making your head feel lighter and your chest feel heavier.
"No Vic, this is not your choice. I am conscious and aware of my actions, legally you have no right to transport me anywhere unless I have harmed other people."
You use your best lawyerly tone, the same tone you use in the courtroom and see them exchange a look and then nod.
"You're right, legally we can't force you but we can call Maya and Carina, y/n."
You grit your teeth; this was an option you had not calculated but, instead, you come up with an idea that is better than the others and will probably save you from going to the hospital. As they say, if Muhammad does not go to the mountain then the mountain will go to Muhammad.
....................................................................................................................
"Thank you for coming."
Amelia shakes her head, a look of disapproval quite legible on her face.
"Well, when your best friend as well as roommate for a good six years of college calls you and tells you she's been in an accident, it's hard not to check in on her."
You smile at her, and before you can try to speak, she's asking you rapid-fire questions.
"Have you lost consciousness? Have you had any dizziness? Altered vision?"
Amelia pulls a small light from the breast pocket of the lab coat she is still wearing before pointing it in your eyes.
"I'm fine," you close your eyes, instinctively turning away from that blinding light.
"Mm yeah, no. You're not all right. Now be still and stop saying you're fine."
Amelia holds your head still, probing multiple places for some kind of bump and glancing at the gash on your forehead.
"This cut needs stitches and you need a CT scan. Oh and you still haven't answered my questions, don't think I forgot."
When Vic notices that you don't answer, she does it for you.
"When we arrived she was unconscious and was unconscious for about three minutes while we were there and soon after she recovered she had trouble recognizing me so I wouldn't rule out visual changes."
Ladies and gentlemen, the traitorous bastard Victoria Hughes.
"Hospital, now. No discussion. I remind you that between the two of us, I am the doctor and also one of the best."
You sigh, shaking your head a few times or at least trying to, as Amelia holds you firmly in place.
"I don't even think about it Amelia, not-"
You stop suddenly, a high-pitched ringing in your ears not allowing you to hear whatever Amelia is saying and then, your pupils rotate back and your body is suddenly shaken by convulsions and everything goes dark.
....................................................................................................................
It is Amelia who takes you to the hospital, with Warren by your side as they check your vitals all the way to Grey's Sloan while Vic and Travis brush all speed limits in order to get their captain's girlfriend and great friend to the hospital as quickly as possible.
After administering Diazepam, fortunately the seizures have stopped and Amelia is squeezing your hand, as if to let you know she is with you.
"Everything will be fine, stay with me y/n. It's all right okay? It's all right. I'm here, I'm here with you."
In less than five minutes, your unconscious body is quickly brought through the doors of the emergency room at Grey's Sloan.
"Female, 25 years old, car accident. Unconscious for three minutes, probable head injury. She had a seizure episode before entering the ambulance; diazepam was administered. She has been stable ever since."
Vic says, before leaving you in the hands of Dr. Teddy Altman, who rolls her eyes as soon as she recognizes the woman lying on the stretcher.
"Y/n? Do Amelia, Maya, and Carina know?"
The neurosurgeon sighs, shaking her head and slipping on gloves and a sterile gown to carefully examine how severe your head injury is.
"Damn it, Schmitt, call Dr. DeLuca. Warren, alert your captain. I can't believe you guys didn't say anything, those two will kill you."
Warren swallows before nodding and pulling out his phone.
"What was I supposed to do? This idiot didn't want to and I remind you she's a lawyer, she knows her rights very well. We need to do a CT scan on her, Schmitt did you reserve the room?"
"Y-yes Dr. Shepard and Dr. DeLuca is coming. I told her that her partner had been in a car accident but I didn't have time to tell her that she was okay that she had already shut me down."
Teddy pinches her nose between her index finger and thumb, sighing in exasperation.
"Schmitt, did you even check that she wasn't operating?"
The resident looks at her embarrassed before shaking his head.
"No ma'am, I-"
The boy doesn't have time to finish the sentence that a worried Italian doctor enters the emergency room, nearly bursting through the doors.
"Where is she? Is she okay? Teddy tell me she is fine-"
The Italian woman suddenly stops, noticing only then your pale, unconscious body on the crib in front of the two doctors and the resident.
Caria quickly approaches you, stroking your forehead and being careful not to graze the cut before turning to Amelia as they move to the exam room to have you scanned. "What happened?"
Although she is addressing the neurosurgeon, her eyes do not leave your figure, and her hand does not detach from yours.
"She lost control of the car and drove into a light pole, the airbags deployed, which caused her to have a massive nosebleed, and a head injury. She had a seizure episode before we brought her in."
Carina gasps as she hears the last sentence.
"Has she woken up since then?"
"No."
The Italian closes her eyes, aware that this is not a good sign and praying that you have not suffered more damage than she initially expected.
As they prepare you for the CT scan, Amelia and Carina being the only ones in the room, Carina decides to ask Amelia one of the questions that came to her mind as soon as she noticed the neurosurgeon standing next to you, slightly sweaty in the face and aware of all the information from your journey from the accident site to the hospital.
"Why were you with her in the ambulance?"
"She called me; she was afraid you would be upset about the car and didn't even want to go to the hospital. She said she would report us if we took her, I doubt she would have done that and I would have done it anyway but you know, Vic and Warren weren't too keen on taking the risk. And then he called me so that they wouldn't take her to the hospital and they wouldn't call you or Maya."
Carina shakes her head as she and Amelia tuck you inside the machine, before exiting the room.
"You idiot, I don't care about the car. All I care about is that she's okay."
"I know Carina, I tried to reason with her and then...well, she had the fit. It will be fine Carina, she is a fighter. She will come back to you. She loves you too much to leave you."
Carina nods, chasing back tears as she looks at the monitors in front of her, waiting for the results of your CT scan.
The Italian gasps as she feels two powerful arms embrace her and hold her close.
"It will be okay love, Warren told me what happened. She will be fine, otherwise how could we give her a good telling off for how much she was considered?"
Maya kisses her wife's shoulder, also looking at the monitors despite not understanding anything written on them. They both sigh, looking at Amelia waiting for good news.
...........................................................................................
When you open your eyes, for the second time that day, you realize you've fucked up again. The cold white walls of the hospital room you are in are proof of that. You try to move your head to the side, to look around, but a twinge in your neck puts you off. You recognize Maya's warm grip in your right hand and the Italian's wavy hair caressing your stomach as the latter sleeps peacefully.
You give the fireman's hand a squeeze and a gentle caress to the Italian's face. Carina wakes up, crinkling her eyes and looking at you surprised, happy and worried at the same time.
"Bella, how are you feeling? Are you okay? I'll call Amelia..."
Carina speaks frantically, not even realizing she is speaking in Italian, and as she reaches toward the button to call the nurses, to the right of your bed, you fuss her wrist, turning a smile to her.
"I'm fine and before you call anyone else I...I have to tell you how sorry I am Carina. I'm so fucking sorry. I know how much you cared about that car and I'm so sorry, I wanted to try to fix it before you knew it...although I don't know if it can be fixed and-"
Carina hears the beeping sound getting louder and louder; she turns to the monitors and when she sees how fast you are breathing and your heart rate, she knows you are having a panic attack.
"Bella, love, it's okay. It's okay love, I'm not mad. I don't care about a stupid car, Andrea will always stay in my heart; I care about you, Bella. The car will buy back but you worth more than anything, do you understand?"
You keep breathing fast; the throbbing pain in your head does not allow you to think clearly, and unfortunately, Carina's words come to you so muffled that they have no effect on you.
The chaos around you makes Maya suddenly wake up; it takes the blond firefighter a few seconds to figure out what is going on and to join his wife in trying to drag you out of the panic attack.
The blond climbs onto the bed, sitting right behind you and holding you in her arms despite you trying with all your might to free yourself. Carina, on the other hand, kneels in front of you, taking your hands in her own.
"It's okay love, it's okay. Breathe, listen to my heartbeat" Maya whispers in your ear, leaving a kiss on your cheek.
"Follow my breath Bella; that's it, good, keep it up."
In less than ten minutes, the incessant sound that resonated in the hospital room is replaced by a soft, steady BIP. Your chest hurts and you rub it hard, to ease your pain, before a hand forces you to stop.
"Hey, hey, you're going to hurt yourself if you keep this up. Do you want me to call a nurse to give you something?"
You nod, closing your eyes and waiting for the nurse to arrive. Carina reaches out to press the button before immediately returning to hold your hands. Maya continues to leave kisses on your neck and face as you continue to keep your eyes closed.
Contrary to what you expected, it is not a nurse who enters the room but Amelia.
"Hey rock star, you're awake. What's wrong? Do you have a headache? Dizziness?"
You nod, opening your eyes and looking into her eyes. A small smile ripples your lips as your best friend walks over to your bed and hugs you.
"You had me worried idiot."
The neurosurgeon pulls away from the hug before giving you a weak punch on your right arm.
"I'm sorry."
Amelia shakes her head as she sticks something into your IV.
"This is a painkiller, not too strong but it should ease your pain. Call me if there is any problem. I'll be back later to check how your head is; I know you have a hard head but it's always best to be cautious."
Before you can even insult her for the joke she just made, Amelia sneers her way out of the room.
"What an idiot," you shake your head, rolling your eyes. Your body begins to relax as the medication kicks in.
"So will you tell us why you didn't go to the hospital right away? You know how dangerous a head injury can be and you still decided to not go to the hospital right away. It was stupid and reckless and you can't, you CANNOT do that with your health. Ever again."
Maya looks at you sternly, with her ‘’Captain's look’’, as you and Carina call it.
"I'm sorry Maya, I know you are angry and I understand why but my only thought was only the car and the fact that I had destroyed one of the things Andrew had given Carina."
Maya holds you close and Carina joins your embrace.
"No physical thing or not, none, will ever be worth as much as your life y/n. And don't ever have a seizure over it again, am I clear? A car will never be worth as much as you are to you and me, ever. I don't care if I have to throw it away, I don't care if I have to buy another one. I care about you and your health so don't ever pull that crap again because if you had the crisis while you were alone, at home, after getting dropped off there, then it could have ended really badly and I, we, need you to understand that Bella."
Carina strokes your face gently; some tears line her face and you promptly wipe them away. Maya leaves a kiss on your cheek, holding you close.
"Car is right love, you really scared us today and when I think about the fact that we could have lost you I..." Maya shakes her head, her voice breaking and you turn to her, pulling her into a kiss.
"I'm sorry Maya, I'm so sorry I...I won't do it again."
You hug and hold each other tightly, you know you fucked up but now that Carina has calmed you down the relief you feel is priceless; therefore, you enjoy the embrace and that warmth you love so much as the medication slips you back into sleep.
Thank you so much for reading! Sorry, I know it is not the best so excuse me… I will try to improve. Have a great day!

Plan No Longer
Pairing: Addison Montgomery x reader
Wc: 1305

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Thanking @walshies for the side pics, they are my main inspiration :D
–––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––
You were planning. You told yourself you were ready, but your heart was still planning, causing your fingers to toy perpetually with the little velvet ring box in your coat.

Addison was just beside you as the waves lapped at the beach, the horizon moulding into one with the sky, dark and vast, they stretched out beyond your eyes could fathom, unpredictable.

You felt the silky texture beneath your fingertips, your heart beating raggedly in your chest. Addison let out a content noise resembling a purr as she sank into the beach chair, her left hand, fingers ringless and bare, folded easily with yours like a thousand times before. You wondered if she would still look at you the same way tonight, after you asked her the most important question of your life.

Your mind whirred back to when she first held your hand, though you couldn't quite remember anything except for the feeling of warmth running through your veins. Your chase for the memory led you back to when you first met her.

Unpredictable was when you met Addison.

It was a busy day at Seattle Grace Hospital, people were rolling in on stretchers, and the bus-car accident was to blame. You knocked your way through multitudes of nurses and doctors, breath in your throat. Your pager was incessant. It's pace felt faster even with every stretch your legs made to the OR for your unscheduled neurosurgery.

Your feet trampled down the flight of stairs, not bothering to take the stretcher-packed elevators. "Page Addison Montgomery!" Was the first thing you heard at the scrub station.

"Sorry?!" You hollered, and Derek whipped his head towards you so harshly that you were afraid his brain-deep hands might hit something important. "Page Addison Montgomery! The patient is pregnant, and she's haemorrhaging! Page her! "

"Page her yourself, Shepherd! I've never worked with pediatrics!" You rushed over, perspiration already forming on your forehead as you took over his position and requested O blood bags when the ECG monitor began to hasten evidently.

"She's going into V-Fib L/n! Administer-"

"Shepherd, call that paediatrician now!" Your voice rose, forcing him to relent his role. "CPR, oxygen, charge up the defibrillator. "You delegated the job to nurses as you started to control the haemorrhage.

It felt like forever before the said paediatrician finally barged into the OR, panting and tired. She immediately captured your line of sight as she put up all the necessary lines and monitored the baby as if she were only working on muscle memory, as if you weren't doing the same right now, watching her and suturing, letting the needle glide through the skin from right to left.

With the Dura mater sutured closed, you moved onto the scalp. The race in your heart was for a completely different reason, and it may or may not have to do with the utterly stunning woman before you.

"How's the mother's progress?" The new voice made your heart swoon and your eyes flicker upward to catch her blazing red hair. No matter, the forceps in your hands remained steadfast, just like how you were trained to have your head clear and precise during panic. Your eyes averted back to your hands. Her eyes were a ladened weight on you.

"I've stopped the bleeding and her BP is steady."You notified her of what you knew, though you weren't sure if another v-fib might trigger due to her pregnancy.

"But?" Her question made you scrutinize her before she shrugged. "I know that mildly concerned tone, I've used it myself." She gave you a smile, proud of herself for analysing you.

You let out an impressed scoff and told her what you assumed would happen as she listened more intently than any doctor you've ever met, her teeth baring slightly to take in her lower lip. You glanced away as you finished closing the patient up, hurrying to scrub out as fast as possible because the woman in front of you was causing a wreck in your previously tranquil train of thoughts.

She had a skip in her steps when she met you at the scrub station. Turning on the faucet, she spoke, "I'm aware you don't know who I am." You focused on washing the soap off your arms. "That's charming, am I supposed to?"

Her brows raised a touch at your sarcasm before the realisation hit her."No! No, no! That's totally not what I meant. I-I'm not egotistical or narcissistic or whatever you think I am now—I mean I kind of am, all surgeons are, but like- " She stopped mid-sentence, mentally kicking herself for being an awkward, stuttering mess. "I only wanted to make small talk or... whatever."

You dried off your arms, leaning against the sink as you surveyed her. She looked away, a tint of blush rising up her cheeks. You smiled, yielding to your wants. "Would that whatever be something like...a date?"

Her gaze whipped over to you, red high on her cheekbones. She wrung her hands and untied her surgical cap, freeing her hair over her shoulders in an elegant shake of her head. "If you want it to be."

You inched closer, lips pursing in faux contemplation. "I don't think I want it." Her smile faltered.

"I think I'll need it to be a date." You gushed before she could turn away, or worse, apologise.

Her eyes sparkled genuinely. "Addison Montgomery."

The next four months were history.

Until right now. Right now, you hold the future in your hands. And you didn't know whether to be excited or nervous about it.

You coughed, trying to unlodge the hesitation in your throat, which garnered Addison's attention. "Are you cold?" She asked, but she was already slipping off her sweater to drape it around your frame.

Just like that, there was no more hesitation, no more blue-screen in your heart. You took a full moment to register it—your heart was actually ready after weeks of reluctance at how much detail she noticed about you.

"Y/n, are you-"

"Willyoumarryme?" The words just tumbled past your lips without prior warning.

"What?"

"Marry me. Marry me." You scrambled, clumsily to your feet, still grasping her hand. "I know there's no fancy lights, no candlelit dinner but- that's my everyday with you; you are my fancy lights, you are my candlelit dinner, you are- you are everything I could possibly have-"

"I-" she stammered, tears pooling in her irises. For a moment, your lower lip trembled when it faced the possibility of rejection. Perhaps she wasn't ready, just like Yang and you were Burke, too fast. Your heart sank and sank and sank, falling so deep into the pits of your stomach that you let your tears coat your vision.
It took a while moment and you thought you lost at life.

Then her signature smile ran across her lips and stayed there, tears slipped from her crinkled eyes. "You're asking me to marry you." A statement you nodded fervently to, and your heart was already soaring seeing her happiness. "You're asking me to marry you!" High-pitched, she laughed, like bells ringing, and launched herself to you, toppling the both of you right into the sand.

Your laughter trailed hers until your chest hurt, so you just gripped her tightly, everything you have, needed and wanted, all in one handful. "I'm asking you to marry me." You let out an amazed breath, not quite believing yourself for being so lucky.
"We're married," she breathed, looking at you in wonder. "I'm married to you." It was a feeling that was all too surreal at the same time that something clicked perfectly in her life.

The ring, a merely a symbol of marriage, was forgotten. The truth of it was that you were already wearing your marriage on your hearts.

For drabble requests how about something for Greys Anatomy where while Derek is busy in surgery the reader comes in injured and Amelia is there to comfort her and make the medical decisions? It doesn’t have to be anything serious really, I’d just love some reader and Amelia bonding 🥰🥰🥰
Tumblr media
The walk of shame along the corridors of Grey Sloan was not altogether unfamiliar to you. Many times had you trudged reluctantly along the polished floors of the surgical unit, clutching some injury or another, purposefully trying to avoid the eyes of anyone you knew--which, in such a unit, was pretty impossible.
Years ago, you would have been slightly less embarrassed. Kids always got into medical equipment, right? At least kids of surgeons who were constantly working. But now, it didn't seem quite right. You were a month away from Johns Hopkins, had aced all your exams and probably wouldn't have even needed the reference letters from half the surgical team, and here you were, head hung low in disgrace as you held your bleeding hand to your chest.
If it weren't for the fact you knew your dad would absolutely murder you if he found out you had hidden an injury from him again, you would have locked yourself away in a break room somewhere and attempted to patch yourself up best you could. Alas. Your father was Derek Shepherd. And after the broken nose you'd managed to keep from him for almost twenty-four hours a couple years ago, he'd all but held you hostage until you promised on his life you wouldn't do it again.
So, here you were. Reluctant as hell but somehow still not regretting the situation that had lead you to this moment.
"Hi, have you seen Dr. Shepherd around?" you asked a passing intern. When he made to walk over to the surgery board, finger already pointing at one row in particular, you visibly grimaced.
"Uh, no, the other one. Amelia Shepherd?" You had no intention of crying to your dad today. Your pride had been smashed to pieces enough.
The intern pointed down the hallway and you saw your aunt walking around a corner with another nurse. Pressing your lips in a thin line, you thanked the intern and followed after her. Your pace was fast enough not to lose her but slow enough that you had time to rehearse your lines before you were bombarded with judgment.
Amelia ducked into a radiology room and you steeled yourself before pushing the door open. "Amelia?"
"Y/N. Why are you holding your hand like that?"
You wouldn't have been surprised at the question, in fact you had fully expected it, if Amelia had turned around to actually see who had walked through the door. Your aunt could do powerful stuff, but mindreading was not on that list.
"I saw you earlier." Amelia turned, arms crossed, brows raised. "Well done, by the way. Meredith thought it would take you longer to find someone. I said it would take..." She glanced at her watch and shrugged. "Twenty minutes. Not bad."
Her supposed victory was short-lived when she looked up. Her eyes fell on your hand and her face dropped as she walked quickly over to you. "I'd rather you not drip blood on the floor," she said, an obvious tease behind her words, as she gently pulled you over to sit down.
You made a face, not having realised. "Oops."
"Oops is right, kiddo." Amelia knelt in front of the swivel chair and let you uncover your hand, humming under her breath when she noted the long, jagged line running down the side of your hand from the base of your wrist to the middle of your pinky finger. "How'd you manage this, huh? Don't tell me you found the electrical saw again."
You rolled your eyes. "I stabbed myself, actually," you said matter-of-factly.
"Ooh, that's a new one. With what?" When your reluctance finally kicked in, Amelia looked up. "With what, Y/N?"
Your hand began to throb and only then did you decide that answering your aunt's questions was probably the easiest way to getting relief. "A needle," you said. "I found a suture practice kit and, oh my God, Amelia, you know that's like giving me candy. I couldn't just leave it alone."
Amelia nodded along, gently probing at the red skin around your wound. "So you practiced sutures on fake skin and, what? Sewed yourself?"
"There was a noise outside and I jerked my hand," you deadpanned. Amelia glanced up, on the verge of laughter, and you looked away stiffly. "It hurts."
"Well, lesson learnt. For now," she added after as a second thought. There was a short silence after that was broken only by your hiss of pain when Amelia touched an exceptionally sensitive spot. Sucking a breath through her teeth, the surgeon sat back on her heels and looked up at you. "How were your sutures?" she asked. "Straight? Neat?"
You lit up, Derek's smug smile curving your lips not a second later. "Straightest and neatest you'll ever see."
"That's my girl." Amelia squeezed your knee before standing to her feet and taking out her phone. "Now, what do we tell your dad when he sees you later with stitches in your hand?"
You couldn't have groaned louder. If the chair didn't have a straight back, you would have fallen backwards with the force of it. When you righted yourself, a fierce look of indignation on your face, Amelia wasn't even attempting to hide her amusement.
"I need stitches?"
"Yup. Aaand, lucky for you, I think Derek should be out of surgery by now." Chipper as ever in the face of her niece's almost tangible disgust, she held open the door and nodded in its direction. "Come on, kiddo. He'll be glad to do a little needlework. Bring him back to basics."
You rolled your eyes once more as you got up, cradling your hand to your chest. "Like brother, like sister," you grumbled as you passed your aunt.
"What was that?"
"I said: like brother, like sister, you sadist."
Amelia snorted.

Tumblr media
It was almost entertaining how clueless you could be. Carina watched from a distance as you chatted up a few people around the bar. She hadn’t even left your side for that long before you were surrounded. The gala she took you to was packed with familiar faces, so she had to go be personable and greet everyone who came. You insisted on getting both of you a drink while she went and talked to people you didn’t really know. To be honest, you were a little uncomfortable at these things. Usually, Carina would keep you clung to her side and even show you off a little bit as her girlfriend. However, this time things were a little bit too busy for her to do that. So, despite Carina’s hesitation, you parted for just a few minutes. Of course, the minute you did the one thing she didn’t want happening happened.
There were people on all sides of you, chatting you up and you returned their predatory smiles with an innocent one of your own. Carina couldn’t blame them, honestly. You were, after all, wearing a tight little dress that she picked out just for you. If she couldn’t stop staring at the way it hugged your curves and accentuated your legs, then it would only make sense that others were doing the same exact thing.
Carina couldn’t help the jealous frown she was wearing when she watched as someone ignored your protests to buy you a drink and put in the order anyways. She rolled her eyes when you took it with an apologetic smile. She could practically hear the excuses you were making, “oh you didn’t have to do that” or “that’s so nice of you” or maybe even “let me buy you the next one.” Of course, that drink you were getting for the both of you was forgotten at this point. You were just too surrounded and busy trying to please the crowd of strangers to figure out a polite way to tear yourself away from them.
You poor thing, she thought. You had absolutely no idea that these people were trying to hit on you. She had tried to get you to understand once before that people who act the way this crowd around you was acting wanted only one thing for you: To have you the way only Carina could have you. Of course, you tried to see the best in people and would never jump to the same (albeit accurate) conclusion that she did. Carina even warned you that the way you were dressed tonight would attract attention. Even if she picked it out for you, she still wanted you to be aware of the reactions it could cause in other people.
Yet, there you were totally oblivious and sipping on a drink that someone else bought you. People were closing in on you a little too much for her liking. She decided she needed to do something to change that soon, but maybe she’d wait it out just a little bit. See if you actually would catch on to what was going on around you.
Only, you really didn’t. You kept laughing innocently at whatever bad joke Carina was sure would make her roll her eyes. If she was being honest, you were being a little too friendly toward them for her liking. At this point, you had to know what you were doing, right? Of course, Carina would still bet that you really didn’t.
What made her finally decide to make her way towards you and the group of flirty people that surrounded you was when one of them decided to be bold enough to actually touch you. It was brief. You barely even noticed it, but Carina did. She thanked her lucky stars that she wasn’t stuck in some smalltalk with another colleague. If she was, then they’d probably see the way her frown grew and the twitch of her eyebrow as she tried to keep her cool.
Carina walked over to you with a mission. Not wanting to give this random person another chance to touch you again. No matter how innocent it may have seemed, Carina knew it was this girl’s way of testing the waters with you. All the people around you had obvious intentions, Carina was sure of it, and that intention was to take you home with them. Carina couldn’t wait to flaunt the fact that she’d, of course, be going home with you on her arm and not theirs. The gala still had a few hours to go before it was over. In reality, you two hadn’t even been there for very long at all, but the more Carina thought about how she could gloat, the more she liked the idea of that happening sooner rather than later. Plus, you were really testing her patiences with all of these people. She had a jealous side and, even if you were oblivious to it, you were really bringing it out of her tonight.
“(Y/N),” Carina’s voice called your name from behind the group of people around you. You popped your head up over one of the taller men that was directly behind you, chatting with you and the group. When you spotted her, Carina’s frown immediately vanished and turned into a dazzling smile. She didn’t want you to catch on to her jealous mood just yet. She pushed her way, not so politely, through the group that was around you until she was standing next to where you sat at the bar. Her hand grazed your thigh and she bit her lip to hide the triumphant smirk that threatened to break free when she saw a couple people notice what she did. “Let’s go home.” Carina’s hands slid into both of yours and when you nodded in agreement she pulled you up off your seat.
With your hand in hers, Carina pulled you out of the gala. When she turned back and smiled, you thought it was just a kind gesture towards yourself. Really, Carina was just grinning at all the jealous faces she saw as she walked out with you in tow.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
When you got home you suspected nothing of Carina’s jealous mood. In fact, you were totally oblivious to her silent stewing as she drove. Yes, she was quite smug that she got to disappoint some people when she walked out of the gala with you, but that didn’t quite get rid of the jealousy that was coursing through you. She couldn’t help it really. You were just so clueless to other people wanting you. It was her job, at least in her mind, to fend off all that unwanted attention you sometimes get, but anytime she did that she would be left with this overwhelming feeling of possessiveness. That feeling would always eat at her until she had the chance to put that energy to good use.
Carina watched you as you walked around the house in that dress of yours like she was a predator and you were her prey. You had no idea she was following close behind as you went to the dresser of your shared bedroom with the intention of getting out of your fancy dress clothes for the night. With your heels off you already felt a little more relaxed from the evening. You started pulling off random parts of your attire. Your necklace, you laid delicately on the dresser top. Then for your earrings, which of course Carina also picked out for you. You paused for a moment, noticing from your view of the mirror that Carina had slipped into the bedroom with you. What you didn’t notice was the look in her eye as she stared you from the door.
As Carina watched you start to reach for the zipper at the back of your dress she decided now was the time to make her move. “Do you like seeing me jealous?” Carina’s voice came up from behind you. “Hm? Do you like playing this little game?”
“Carina, I-“ You looked back at her in the mirror as she approached you, a little taken aback by her sudden mood. The look she was giving you caused a shiver to run up your spine. “I’m not sure what you mean? I wasn’t playing any games.”
“Then why…” She reached you finally, stopping right behind you. Her hands slipped around your body and immediately ran up your chest to practically grope you through your clothes. “Why did you let so many random people hang all over you tonight, if it wasn’t to make me jealous?”
“I didn’t-“
“Shhh,” Carina cooed. “It’s okay, bambina. I know you like to frustrate me. You like the way I touch you after you’ve tempted me, don’t you?” One of Carina’s hands moved up to grab your chin, forcing you to look straight at her from the mirror. “You love playing these games, so that by the end of the night I’ll fuck you the way you deserve to be fucked. Am I right, my love?”
You were honestly speechless, but not because you were shocked by her behavior. No, you knew this was something that Carina liked to do. Get all jealous over other people being near you, only to get to go home and stake her claim on you. No, you were speechless because between the way she was practically manhandling you and the way she was looking at you already had you weak in the knees.
“I’m waiting for an answer, bambina.” She leaned in to whisper in your ear. Her lips grazed the shell of your ear as she spoke and your eyes fluttered closed at the sensation. Carina just smirked at your reaction before dipping down to trail her lips from your jaw to your neck. “You just love all the attention you got tonight, don’t you?” She let go of your chin to move her hands to your arms, running her fingertips up and down them slowly.
“I’m sure you knew how crazy it would make me when one of them touched your arm like this. Am I right?” She pressed her body closer to the back of yours. “Or when they got a little too close to you like this…” Her fingertips stopped to wrap around your wrists. With her grip, she suddenly pulled both your hands forward until she had them pinned flat on the dresser.
“C-Carina, I wasn’t doing that on purpose.” Your brain was really struggling to think of responses for her. The truth is, you really weren’t. You had no idea that you were making her jealous. Yeah, when someone bought you a drink you had an inkling she would not love that you accepted it, but you also didn’t know if she even was paying attention to you while you were at the gala. Something tells you, she saw all of it. Especially with the way her hands squeezed around your wrists and how she was practically forcing you to bend over the dresser with her body.
“It’s a little too late for excuses, mia cara,” Carina whispered before you felt her teeth close down, not so gently, on the most sensitive part of your neck. You let out a gasp at the mildly aggressive way Carina was being with you. No doubt there would be a very visible bite mark on your neck for a few days. It’s going to be interesting to explain that away when you go out in public. “I’m just going to have to remind you…” Carina paused to run her tongue over the fresh bite mark. “...that no one else can have you.”
Carina’s eyes ran down your body from the mirror before meeting yours again and when they did you saw how blown her pupils were. You were in for it tonight, that much was obvious, but you honestly didn’t mind. If anything, it already had you a little wet just from the anticipation.
“Keep your hands there,” she ordered before releasing your wrists. You nodded and looked back down at her hands as they began to push up your dress. She stopped when your dress was pushed up above your waist, completely exposing your panties. Embarrassingly enough, they already had a wet patch from how worked up you’ve gotten by Carina’s behavior. It did not go unnoticed by her.
With one finger, she ran the tip of it down your panties and between your folds through the fabric. “I knew you enjoyed seeing me jealous,” She tsked as she repeated her action. Your head hung low as Carina put pressure onto your clit through your panties from just her finger. Her cockiness at already getting you so desperate for her was going straight to her head. Her fingertips played with the elastic to your panties and she looked back up at you. “Look at me, principessa.”
You willed your head to look up and again met her eyes through the mirror. She gave you a wide grin, proud of how obedient you were already being for her. “I want you to look at yourself when I touch you. Know that tonight is the result of your actions.” With that, Carina slipped her fingers into your panties and immediately began circling your clit. Your hips jumped at the direct contact she was making, but soon you were pressing yourself into her touch.
Small sighs of pleasure left your lips and Carina was soaking in every little reaction she pulled from you. When she moved her fingers lower and traced your entrance with her fingertips, she could feel the anticipation practically radiating off you. Her fingers slid in with ease and once they did, she looked up to see that you were still doing exactly what you were told.
With a steady pace, she started to pump her fingers in and out of you. Your wetness from all of her actions had already completely ruined your panties, but honestly with the way she was touching you, you didn’t really care.
Your fingers curled against the dresser, trying your best to grip at it, while also keeping them right where Carina told you to. Her fingers kept moving in and out of you and you could already feel your legs beginning to shake. Carina pressed herself into you more until you were almost completely bent over the dresser, with your head barely able to stay up to keep focused on the mirror.
Carina leaned herself fully over you, her free hand going to your hair to push it out of the way of your neck before she reattached her lips to the skin there. There was definitely going to be more than one mark now, but that was what Carina loved to do. After nights like this, where she was in a particularly possessive mood, you’d always be left covered in little reminders of what she would do to you. You weren’t complaining much, you just didn’t love the process of covering them.
When Carina started to feel the telltale signs of your orgasm approaching, she had a wicked idea. Without warning, she pulled out and backed away. It took you barely even two seconds to start whining about the loss of contact. You were so close. “Strip and get on the bed,” Carina ordered. “I want to taste you.”
She stood back and watched, biting back a smirk at the pout you were currently wearing. You still did as you were told almost immediately though, removing your dress and your now ruined panties while still on shaky legs. With a shy look towards her, you walked over to the bed and crawled onto it.
“Lay down, bambina,” Carina said as she stalked towards you. “And spread your legs. I want you open for me.”
Immediately, Carina could see the blush on your face. “O-okay,” you mumbled as you did exactly what you were told. God, Carina loved the way you instantly listened to her every command tonight. It made her feel that much more smug that she went home with you on her arm and not any of those other people. You were just so deliciously eager and ready to please.
When Carina knelt between your legs, you watched with awe at the look of desire in her eyes. The need to claim you was so intense in Carina, that even you could feel it. Her hands went to your knees, spreading your legs open even farther. She watched as your thighs glistened from the wetness that dripped down them while she had her fingers inside you. Her mouth watered in anticipation of what she was about to do. She couldn’t wait to taste you, so she didn’t.
Your head fell back on the pillow the instant Carina’s tongue made contact with your pussy. She took one long, slow lick up your folds before wrapping her lips around your clit. Your eyes squeezed shut and both your hands flew to her hair as she sucked on your clit like her life depended on it. You couldn’t help the way your legs shook and squirmed at the intensity of the feeling.
Carina’s lips finally detached from your clit, but her tongue began to trace circles around it. With her tongue still brushing over your clit, she glanced up at you. As much as she loved seeing you totally out of control of your reactions, she wanted to make it hard for you.
“No, no, no.” Carina pulled back from between your legs. You whined and leaned your head back up, your eyes pleading with Carina to keep going. “I want you to look at me while I touch you. Understand?”
You nodded desperately, just eager for her to restart what she was doing with her tongue. Carina dipped her head back down and began lapping at your clit again. Her hands slipped from where they held your legs open to move under your ass. With her grip on you, she encouraged you to move your hips with the rhythm of her tongue, squeezing you when you caught on and obliged.
Carina looked up at you again from where she was between your legs and the sight itself had you close to the edge. You forgot already what you were told and your head started to lean back the moment she took your clit into her mouth again. Carina was quickly bringing you to the edge with just her tongue and the way your hips kept moving against her mouth was making everything overwhelming in the best way. But then it all stopped way too soon. She noticed that your head had dipped back down onto the pillow and her mouth left your clit. You let out another pathetic whine and looked back down at her.
“What did I say, bambina?” She scolded, leaning away from you. “Can you not do this one simple thing? Is it really too hard for you?”
“I- I can,” You pleaded. “Just keep touching me. Carina, I was so close.”
“You only get to cum if you do what you’re told.” Her tone was stern, but you knew she was absolutely loving the way you were responding to her.
“I’ll be good,” you reassured. “I’ll do what I’m told.”
Carina was satisfied enough with that answer and to your relief, her head dipped down again. This time, though, one of her hands left your ass and you felt her fingertips again circle your entrance before sliding in. You groaned and felt your back arch off the mattress at the feeling of her tongue on your clit and her fingers fucking into you, but you never looked away. You kept your eyes glued to the way Carina’s head moved as she sucked on your clit. The way her fingers curled inside you already had your body quivering around her. She was fucking you like her life depended on it and you were already so close twice already, so now it really wasn’t going to take long.
Carina let go of your clit with a pop. “Do you want to cum, bambina?” she asked.
You nodded your head fervently. “Use your words,” she ordered, her fingers curling and hitting the spot she knew you loved before you had a chance to respond.
A moan escaped your lips and your hands tightened in her hair. It took you a moment, but finally you regained some control. “Yes,” your voice was hoarse as you spoke. “Please, I want to cum.”
“Good girl,” Carina mused before pumping her fingers into you even faster. At this point it was incredibly hard for you to keep your eyes on her, but you still managed. Even with your thighs shaking around her head and your body moving in a messier rhythm with your orgasm fast approaching, you still wanted to be obedient for her. “Cum for me, mia cara.” And after two more strong pumps of her fingers, you were suddenly falling apart around her.
Carina pulled back from between your thighs, but kept her fingers inside you. She enjoyed the way she could feel your walls tighten and convulse around her and got lost for a moment in the way you looked coming down from your high. But she only allowed herself to enjoy that for a brief minute. She had more plans for you tonight, and she still hadn’t quite worked through the jealous mood you put her in.
After another moment she pulled her fingers out of you and your body shuddered at the loss of contact. You finally let your head fall back onto the pillow and closed your eyes, trying to catch your breath from how good she just made you feel. Your recovery from essentially being edged until you could cum took all your focus. So much so, that you didn’t notice Carina leave the bed for a moment until she returned and grabbed your legs again.
Yet again, she moved you so that you were open for her. Your head popped up in curiosity to see what she was doing. Honestly, you had a feeling it wouldn’t just stop at one, but you still wanted the chance to take a breath before Carina subjected you to whatever she had planned next. What you didn’t expect was her fully nude with a new, bigger than you were used to, strap-on to be hanging between her legs.
“Carina, that might be too big.”
“It’s okay, bambina,” Carina cooed. “We’ll take it slow.”
You gulped, but with the hopeful look Carina was giving you, you wanted to do your best to please her. So, with some hesitation, you agreed, trusting Carina to take care not to hurt you.
“I need you to relax for me,” Carina said as she moved to crawl over your body. “Can you do that for me?”
You nodded again, opening your legs more for Carina to have room. Your eyes were glued between Carina’s legs. It wasn’t the biggest strap-on you’ve ever seen, but it definitely was still something you were new to in general. Usually, Carina preferred to use her fingers so she could feel you as you came for her, so to use toys was somewhat rare. But then again, you knew Carina was in a mood to really see you fall apart beneath her, and you were sure when she started to fuck you with that, you would instantly become a mess beneath her.
Carina lined the toy up to your entrance, her eyes locked on your face to watch for any signs to stop. You showed none and she started to push in. She took it slow, just like she said she would. Your body tried to relax so you could take in more of the toy and eventually, she bottomed out inside you. You were tight, that much was obvious, but even so you immediately felt the pleasure of being filled more so than you were used to.
Your body trembled slightly underneath Carina, but seeing the way you were taking her so well broke something inside her. Without much warning, Carina pulled out of you almost completely, before snapping her hips back into you. You cried out at the sudden change in pace, but it wasn’t a bad thing. Your hands went straight to Carina’s hips, holding her there as she pressed her hips harder into yours, trying to bury herself deeper inside you. After a moment, Carina did the same exact thing again, drawing a loud groan out of you. She was mesmerized by your reactions. Once she thought you were pretty used to the feeling of this new toy, she set a steady pace, moving her faux cock in and out of you. Her lips attached themselves to either of your nipples as she went, switching off between the two. When she wasn’t toying with them with her teeth, she was leaving marks all over your chest, alternating between hickeys and bite marks. You weren’t even trying to muffle any of the sounds she was causing you to make. The sounds of your moans plus skin against skin as she fucked you filled the entire apartment.
Carina sat up without warning, her hands grabbing your hips and pulling your legs to hook around her own waist so she could fuck you deeper. Your eyes rolled back and your hands flew to grab a fist full of your sheets. She was keeping her pace, but the way the toy hit you deeper than you were used to had your head swimming. You could feel Carina’s nails dig into your skin, no doubt leaving more marks on you, as she held you at an angle to keep fucking into you deeper.
Again, she was pushing you towards that edge, only this time you both knew you were too far gone to ask to cum. Luckily, Carina accepted this happily if it meant that she could see you so fucked out for her. She sped up a little, making you move your hips into hers with her grip on you as she kept going. Your body was shaking again and you were reaching your peak once more. You could only hope that Carina would let you cum immediately this time rather than draw it out.
Thankfully, she did. As she kept going, it finally became too much and you came undone all over her strap. She didn’t even give you a minute to come down from your orgasm. Before you even really knew what was happening, Carina slid the toy out of you and flipped your body on the bed.
“On all fours,” She ordered.
“Carina, I don’t think I can-”
“One more, bambina,” Carina pleaded, already moving your own knees so that you could be positioned the way she wanted. “Please?”
You just nodded and tried your best to get in the position she asked for, your body still shaking from your last orgasm. Soon, you felt Carina’s hand come down on your ass and your body jumped. She grabbed at your ass for a second before moving herself to yet again position the strap to circle your entrance.
“Bellissima,” Carina practically growled, her hand coming down on your ass one more time. You just whimpered, already eager for what was in store, even if you were feeling a little spent. Finally, Carina entered you again and your head hung down as she immediately started fucking you with a strength you weren’t exactly used to when it came to her.
When she said she was jealous tonight, she was incredibly jealous and that much was clear in the way she was laying claim to you. Her intentions were to completely ruin you tonight and she was doing an excellent job at it. You weren’t the only one lost in the way she was fucking you. The sounds you were making and the way your body shook beneath her had her absolutely floored. If she could, she’d fuck you all night long. Maybe you’d be too spent for that, but she was at least going to try.
Her hips pounded against the backs of your thighs with a force that had your hands slipping from where they propped you up on the bed. You were moaning and whining her name as she kept fucking into your pussy from behind. The whole time Carina was moaning out things in Italian that you could only assume would translate into something filthy. It was embarrassingly quick how close you were to coming already, but Carina was fucking you with a ferocity that had you dizzy and all you could do was moan and struggle to stay in the position she had you in.
With a few more snaps of her hips and another couple slaps of your ass as she fucked you, you were coming on her cock yet again. You let out a pathetic whine that echoed through the room as you came and the way your arms were holding your body up failed you. Your face hit the pillow and you panted into it, your ass only in the air by Carina’s hold on your hips. Carina didn’t pull out though, instead she slowed for just a second before starting her pace again.
“I-I can’t,” you whined. “Not again.”
“Yes, you can, mia cara,” Carina grunted as she kept fucking her strap into you. “Please, please give me one more.”
You whined as her hips continued to push into your own from behind, but still you nodded. Despite already feeling spent and sensitive, you still wanted to please and the way she was practically begging you to let her keep fucking you had you ready to do just about anything.
With the nod of your head Carina went even faster. Your face pressed into the pillow and you felt a tear fall from your cheek at the overwhelming sensation of her still fucking your already overly sensitive pussy. The feeling of it all was almost too much and your body hadn’t stopped shaking from the last orgasm. Your hands were grabbing at the sheets and your cries as her cock hit deeper inside you were muffled by the pillow. Carina had a firm grip on you and it was as if she wasn’t tired at all with the sheer consistency and power behind each pump of her hips.
Your eyes squeezed shut as Carina put even more force into the way she was fucking into you. Your walls were yet again quickly tightening around her cock, but she loved the way she could tell you were close to coming again. She also loved the way you were so quick to agree and let her push your limits, even if just a little bit.
Your thighs burned from the way Carina had them spread and from how long they shook from each orgasm she drew from you. All your muscles felt more sore with each orgasm as well and now, as she fucked you into yet another one that was fast approaching, you were well aware of your every nerve. Another tear fell down your cheek at the almost painful pleasure you were in and your hands trembled as you were seconds away from your orgasm.
Carina put all her strength into fucking your pussy and after just a little more, you let go again, coming harder than you probably have before. Finally, finally after just a minute, Carina pulled out.
She let go of your hips too and the rest of your body instantly collapsed onto the bed. Your chest heaved and you turned your head on the pillow for more air. Carina stayed knelt over you for just a moment, taking in the way you looked beneath her. Honestly, you were never more beautiful than you were in this moment, naked and spent on her bed. Covered in her marks, with your thighs glistening with your own cum. She loved when she got to see you like this.
After a moment, Carina moved so that she could lay next to you on the bed. Her arms wrapped around your still, slightly trembling body. Your breathing steady as she held you in her strong arms. It amazed you that she seemed totally fine and not tired at all. Especially when she was fucking you with all her strength behind it. Either way, you enjoyed this soft shift in her and nuzzled closer into her chest.
“You did so good for me, bambina,” Carina praised. “But now, let’s get you cleaned up, hm?”
You hummed an agreement into her chest before she got out of bed and slowly pulled you with her. As you let her lead you to the shower, your legs still weak from all that transpired, you couldn’t help but think you should get her jealous more often.
A/N: once again I feel like I want to emotionally wreck Carina so… send your best angst requests…

[an accidental 2.7k words of baby tai for the culture]
//
you don’t ask for beatrice to consult on the case just because the baby really does look like her in a tangible way: brown eyes that shine in the sun; gold skin; soft dark hair; a happy smile. tai — an orphan, which you also don’t prioritize when you ask her, but whatever — is small for her three months and quite sick, a bad valve in her tiny heart doing more damage than good.
it’s a difficult surgery, complicated and intricate and, even though you’re the best in your field, a hardcore rockstar, you’re not a cardio surgeon. you ask beatrice to consult on the case because, even if you’d never admit it aloud in front of her, she is the best in the world.
‘dr. villaumbrosia,’ beatrice says, meeting you outside the picu. she’s not operating today, you’re fairly certain, or at least hasn’t yet, based on her neat navy slacks and oatmeal-colored sweater under her white coat, chelsea boots certainly not what she would wear in the OR, her buzzed hair not hidden under one of her surgical caps, her wedding band still on her finger rather than tucked away, pinned to the inside of her scrubs. you’ve known her for years and years, have watched her fail and succeed and succeed and succeed, have watched her fall in love and get married, have watched her build a home, a life — which includes you, in all the ways that matter, in the ways you will very rarely thank each other for and feel anyway.
but still, ‘dr. choi,’ you say, ‘thanks for coming.’
she nods. ‘it sounded like an interesting case from your summary.’ she takes the ipad you offer her and looks at the scans of tai’s heart, then her vitals, then the scans again, a little closer and with something like wonder filling her eyes, just at the corners but enough for you to feel a spark of hope in your chest. she looks up at you. ‘we can do this, i think.’
‘yeah?’
‘it’ll be —‘ she pauses, nods to reassure both of you, sets her shoulders, and you know that’s it — ‘it’ll be difficult, but it’s not impossible.’
‘agreed.’
‘can i meet her, then? the patient? i’d like to get an idea of how small this heart actually is.’
‘of course.’ you open the door and it’s just like any other consult; beatrice is always brave enough to partner up on any peds cases, even the most heartbreaking, the most hopeless.
tai smiles at beatrice, who is always good with children the same way you are: you talk to them like human beings, and you listen, and you take things seriously — their pain and their fear and their recovery. tai is too little to tell you anything, but beatrice still leans toward her gently and smiles at her babbling, runs a gentle hand over her soft hair, makes sure to warm the head of her stethoscope up on her thigh before pressing it to tai’s chest.
there’s no way for you to realize it at the time, but you will swear for years that you knew, even before beatrice and certainly before ava, that tai was special; beatrice closes her eyes and listens to tai’s failing heart carefully. ‘i’ll need an updated echo,’ she tells you and your intern, standing uselessly behind you. ‘and then, if you’re free afterward, dr. villambrosia, let’s meet in the skills lab? i’d like to run through the procedure.’
‘that works for me.’
she nods once, seriously. ‘no parents?’
you shake your head. ‘she’s here through my org, from chengdu.’
beatrice considers this briefly but soldiers on, like she and ava haven’t had quiet, sad fights about children and adoption and a family and a home. ‘if you feel comfortable, i can hand off my follow-ups this afternoon to dr. amunet and we can get this taken care of. it’ll be a long recovery, so i’d rather it not degrade any further if we wait.’
‘as long as the run-through feels good,’ you say, ‘i think it’s the best course of treatment.’
beatrice nods, smiles once down at tai and rubs her little chest while tai squirms and babbles happily. for such a sick kid — on oxygen and a feeding tube, two ivs because her veins are so small — she’s generally happy, bright in a way that peds usually isn’t. she’s not guaranteed to survive so, like all of your patients, you don’t get too attached. beatrice hasn’t had that problem before, either, caring but not too much, unlike ava, who feels each loss as if it’s his own. but the way that beatrice lingers and lets tai hold onto her fingers while she tells your intern exactly what she wants from the ekg and bloodwork — you think this might be different.
/
it’s touch and go for a while: you and beatrice are brilliant surgeons but, even with all of the tests and scans and practice, tai’s surgery is longer and more difficult than you could’ve prepared for: her heart is weak and so, so small; even beatrice struggles to place the careful, clever sutures you’ve watched her throw with ease, most surgeries, and for years. it takes longer than you would’ve liked to get her off bypass, much longer than you would’ve liked for her heart to start beating again in beatrice’s hands.
but: it does beat. weak and small, yes, but sure, and steady, and even, all the valves and ventricles ready to heal as they should be. tai’s cheeks, once she’s settled in the picu again, are rosy, her skin warm, her oxygen sats already up comfortably from before. you’d wired her sternum shut and the incision running down her tiny chest will leave a scar, and she’ll probably need another procedure or two as she gets older — but she will get older, as far as you can tell.
beatrice goes through — a little unexpected for the aftermath of a successful surgery, and far beyond the end of her relatively easy scheduled shift — all of the potential complications tai could face, how she was without a flow of properly oxygenated blood to her brain for an amount of time that frustrated her — maybe even frightened her. for as long as you’ve known beatrice — dr. choi — through undergrad and medical school, then residency and fellowships, into your first few years as attendings, she’s as unflappable as they come, unless it’s someone she loves who might be hurt, who might not get well. you’ve seen it with ava and her back, and shannon and mary after a car accident that looked much worse than it actually was, and even one time camila got the flu.
it surprises you in the moment when beatrice, carefully taking off her scrub cap — patterned with little otters and rainbows, a ridiculous gift from ava that beatrice horrifically wears with not a single ounce of hesitation or embarrassment — slips into her hospital-issued fleece quarterzip and sits down in the chair by tai’s bassinet once you and the nurses get all of her machines situated.
‘i’ll stay with her, dr. villaumbrosia,’ beatrice says, soft and formal.
‘there’s plenty of nurses, and dr. amunet, if you want to go home.’
beatrice shakes her head and leans over tai’s sleeping form, heavily sedated for the next few days so she’s not in pain, and runs a gentle finger along her cheek. ‘she — she doesn’t have anyone,’ she says, as much explanation as you need. ‘plus, dr. silva is on call tonight anyway.’
you resist the urge to say something mean about ava; he’s actually very talented and smart and he makes your best friend, your sister, very happy, and very full — even if he is the most annoying person you know. tai is alone, and all beatrice has to go home to, right now, is a beautiful house that’s empty of all of the life ava brings anywhere, leftovers in the fridge, a house that you know has an empty bedroom just down the hall from the primary, holding a lot of ava’s patient, quiet hope in the space.
‘okay,’ you say, not bothering her, just this once: tai is very small and still very sick; you’ve read enough studies to know that comfort, especially with babies who haven’t known as much of it as they should, can be extremely monumental in their ability to heal. ‘i’m sure you can handle if anything pops up, but i’d like to know anyway. text me.’
beatrice looks up from tai to nod, a grim smile on her face mellowed, seemingly, by tai’s steady breaths against beatrice’s palm. ‘will do.’
you nod and don’t bother to ask for anything else from her, taking your leave while she takes her glasses off and rubs her eyes, then slumps a little in the chair but keeps her hand on tai’s stomach, soothing and warm and present. tai has been alone her entire life, even if it’s only been very short; you believe that her body will know that she’s not anymore, at least for now.
/
it’s not often that you choose to come to work early, not often that you allow yourself to have much attachment to patients and their outcomes beyond whether or not you practiced the best medicine possible — no one would be able to do peds and neonatal surgery if they did — but you park far before the sun comes up and force yourself to grab three cups of coffee from the cafe before you head to the picu.
it doesn’t surprise you when you see both beatrice and ava by tai’s bassinet now, beatrice fast asleep, slumped over fully on ava’s shoulder, and ava scrolling through an ipad, probably taking care of charting here rather than in her office. ava smiles up at you, never deterred by your grumbling or eye rolls, and, just this once, you smile back.
‘dr. silva,’ you greet. ‘how’s she doing?’ you ask, handing him the coffee.
‘totally steady all night,’ ava says quietly, sounding far too proud of a baby that isn’t even really beatrice’s patient, let alone theirs. ‘she’s really strong, even if she’s small.’
you look over tai’s vitals from the past night quickly and it’s true, she is getting better even faster than you could’ve hoped. ‘she is.’
ava smiles, then looks over at a fast asleep beatrice, a little aching. ’bea said she’s an orphan?’
you sit down next to them both and nod; you assume beatrice gave ava enough of the details. ‘we’ll work to place her with a good family once she’s recovered well.’ the warning is unspoken: don’t get too attached.
ava looks over at beatrice, who has spent the entire night asleep in the picu over a baby whose heart she massaged until it beat again in her hands. he nods. ‘yeah,’ he says, hopeful despite it all. ‘yeah.’
/
‘i — i can do it.’
‘dr. choi.’
‘no,’ beatrice says, ‘it’s fine. i’m on call tonight, and it’s good for her.’
it is, you both know it, but tai is healing and, if all goes according to plan, will be released in a week or two, hopefully to a family who’s equipped to care for her, to raise her gently and generously and well. beatrice — and ava, whenever they make up a very flimsy excuse — have been in tai’s room often, and you know they’ve grown attached even though you warned them not to. but beatrice taking her scrub top off and picking tai up gently, careful of her leads and her still-tender chest, and then holding her close and settling into a rocking chair.
‘beatrice,’ you say, sitting down across from her.
‘have you — has there been a family chosen?’
you’re not the one in charge of any of that, your contributions to the organization being both your sixth-generation-surgeon money and your sixth-generation-surgeon talent, but you know there hasn’t been a decision made yet. you shake your head.
she nods. ‘we…’ she swallows, readjusts so tai is held even closer, her left ear close to beatrice’s heart. ‘i spoke with ava. a lot, actually. and, well, you obviously know i’m chinese; i can teach her how to speak mandarin and make mapo doufu and she won’t — she won’t miss that part. and ava knows about not having a family of origin, and he’s, like, the best. and,’ she continues, ‘we’re both surgeons. you know she’s going to need care now, but also her whole life, and i — i fixed her heart.’ she can’t even look at you, just looks at tai’s peaceful little face as her voice gets wobbly and she sniffles.
beatrice, above all, means what she says. she’s maybe one of the least impulsive people you’ve ever met, agonizing for as long as you’ve known her over haircuts and new hiking gear and dinner reservations, as methodical as it comes when she practices medicine.
‘i —‘ she looks at tai once more and then takes a deep breath and meets your eyes. ‘i love her.’
you know, more than anything, ava has made beatrice want to be brave. you let it sink in, let it hit you like a tidal wave of easy warmth, then really let yourself look at your oldest friend and every careful thing about her, lean muscles and long-healed scars, the most careful thing held against her chest — the same skin, bathed in the light of an easy sunrise. ‘well okay then.’
beatrice seems surprised, for a moment, as if you would say no, or doubt her, or discourage or argue. ‘really?’
you nod, brusque mostly so you don’t cry. ‘i’ll connect you with aja; she’ll be able to help you with all the paperwork. i’ll put in my recommendation, of course.’
beatrice adjusts tai so she can free a hand to wipe a few tears. ‘thank you, lilith.’
‘let’s just hope she takes after you, not ava.’
beatrice laughs, and it makes tai smile.
/
‘no.’
‘she’s —‘
‘your daughter,’ you say. ‘you’re not tai’s doctor any longer, haven’t been in months.’
beatrice frowns, arms crossed. ava smiles far too serenely for your liking next to her.
‘she’ll be fine, babe,’ she says. ‘it’s just a post-op, super normal.’ she turns toward tai, happily squealing at a nurse playing peak-a-boo with her while they get her situated on the exam table.
beatrice glowers but concedes, softening immediately when ava squeezes her bicep. they’re both definitely exhausted but happier than you could’ve really imagined; the empty bedroom now filled with a plethora of toys and clothes, colorful animals on the walls, a safe crib with a space mobile you’d personally given them. it makes sense to you, easily, that they’re good parents — kind and attentive and funny — even if, right now, they’re driving you insane. they’re both in comfortable clothes, not bothering with anything more on their shared day off.
you have to physically shoo beatrice away as you’re listening to tai’s heart, which is ridiculous because you’re sure beatrice does it at home, probably every night. you’re more relieved than you would ever let on that her heartbeat is normal and steady — perfect, as far as you’re concerned. you go through the rest of her check-up and she’s as healthy as can be, gaining weight well, rolling over, holding her head up, starting to eat baby food — yes to bananas; no to green beans so far — not sleep regressing as much as they’d feared.
‘she’s doing great,’ you reassure.
‘fuck yeah she is,’ ava says, then sighs. ‘before either of you start, first of all, language is all relative.’
‘ava, we can’t have her first word being f—‘
‘— secondly,’ ava interrupts, then looks at beatrice putting tai back into her dinosaur onesie, slipping a warm cap onto her head, ‘she’s the best baby of all time.’
‘she is wonderful,’ beatrice says, still a little reverent.
ava elbows you as beatrice carefully pulls socks onto tai’s feet. ‘one of the better ones i’ve met,’ you concede, because you really do love tai, and, all things considered, she’s an easy, happy baby. ‘certainly better than i thought would be possible with either of you.’
ava rolls her eyes. ‘i read your recommendation.’ horrifyingly, she starts reciting it, so you move as quickly as you can.
‘i have a tight schedule today,’ you interrupt, beatrice laughing quietly, smiling at both of you with far too much amusement.
‘bye lil,’ she says. ‘thanks for everything.’
‘yeah, yeah,’ you say, but there’s no bite to it. ‘see you at dinner.’

Tell Him (George O'Malley x Reader)
Summary: You’re dating George O’Malley. You tell him about a certain liking of yours, and although he’s initially confused, he tries to understand. (This is incredibly self-indulgent and the reader is essentially just me. If anyone actually reads this, it’ll be a miracle, lmfao. Mentions of sex and tickling as a kink, but overall this fic is more fluff than smut.)
“I can’t.”
George sighed, but he had an amused expression on his face. “Whatever you’re gonna tell me, I won’t freak out. You know that, right?”
You blushed, avoiding his eyes. “It’s embarrassing. It’s not bad, but it's embarrassing.”
He took your chin, making you meet his eye. “Well, I’m not gonna pressure you. Whenever you’re ready to tell me, I’ll listen.”
You couldn’t help but smile. “Alright. Go save some lives, Dr. O’Malley.”
He kissed you quickly before heading out, and you sighed, resting your head in your hands. It was silly, really, and you were getting him worked up over nothing. If only your embarrassment, your shame didn’t run so deep, if only you had the guts to spit out a simple confession.
And it was over something so stupid.
Cuddling in bed with George last night had been nice. He was warm, and groggy after a day of interning at the hospital, but present enough to rub your back sweetly, muttering sweet words. And then his fingers had strayed near your side, soft and it had startled you and made you twitch.
“You alright?” he asked.
You had nodded. “All good.”
And then, he’d done it again. By accident, still. And you had twitched again, a puff of air resembling a soft laugh leaving your nose.
“Oh, I’m sorry, am I tickling you?” he’d asked.
You chuckled nervously. “A little.”
“Sorry,” he said again.
“It’s fine.”
And that had been it. What you hadn’t said was that it was completely fine if he tickled you, and that it would be fine to continue, because you enjoyed it.
You just couldn’t spit that out. And George deserved to know, because he would clearly do anything in his power to make you happy, and yet, you were afraid that something as simple as a little tickling would be the thing to scare him off.
His shift was long. Long enough for you to think it over. To plan out everything you would want to say, to prepare for a worst-case scenario. It wouldn’t be so bad. George was sweet. He was an angel, honestly, and the chances of him reacting poorly were slim to none. But that fear still lingered. The fear of rejection, ridicule, or just plain old misunderstanding.
But George would understand. He had to.
So after a long, long shift, George was back in your bed. Warm, sleepy, and hopefully ready to listen to your words.
“You ready to tell me what you wanted to say this morning?” he asked.
“Yes. No. Maybe?” you replied. “It’s…I really need to stress to you that it’s not a big deal. It really isn’t, but I’m embarrassed and this is really hard for me to talk about.”
He pulled you close. “I’m here to listen. What’s going on?”
“So, last night…You were rubbing my back, and you…Well, you…”
“Is this about me tickling you?” he interrupted. “Because it was an accident, and I won’t do it—”
“No, no, that’s…I wanna tell you that it’s okay. That I…I liked it. I mean, I would like it if you did it…Intentionally, next time.”
George blinked at you, mouth opening and closing. “I’m sorry…You liked it?”
There it was. The twinge of judgement in his voice. It made you deflate, cheeks turning red.
He sensed the shift in your attitude and immediately shook his head. “No, no, it’s not a bad thing. I’m just…Surprised, that’s all! Because, well, my brothers used to tickle me all the time and I always hated it. I mean, they were rough, and it hurt, and they used to make me cry…So, I mean, the idea of someone liking it is just sort of weird to me. Not weird in a bad way, God, that came out wrong…Weird as in uncommon—”
“No, it’s okay, I get it,” you said. “I’m sorry your brothers did that to you. But, it’s just…I’ve always liked it, and I can’t help it, it’s just wired into my brain for some reason, and it’s embarrassing and I’ve had partners react badly to it in the past, so if you’re weirded out, it’s fine, I just…I wanted to tell you because it makes me happy, and you make me happy.”
George smiled. “Okay. If you like it, that’s fine. I can…I can do it, more, if that makes you happy. Is it…Is it like, a sex thing or a cuddly thing?”
You gave another nervous laugh. “Both? It’s not inherently sexual, but it can be hot. We can talk about the sex part later, though. This is all too embarrassing for me.”
George laughed, too. “Don’t be embarrassed, it’s fine,” he said, kissing your temple. “We can talk about it another time.”
You assumed that was the end of the conversation, but his hands found your sides and squeezed, making you squeal.
“So, you like this?” he asked. “Or do you like it better…here?” His hands moved upwards towards your ribs, his fingers prodding into the spaces between your bones with his surgical precision. It only made you giggle harder, feet kicking.
“You’re giggling too hard to answer me, baby,” he cooed.
“Shut up,” you whined. “You’re being mean!”
“How am I being mean? I’m doing what you asked! I think that’s pretty nice of me, actually.”
You had nothing to say in response, just laughing. You were so happy. So loved.
That night, you fell asleep wrapped in George’s arms, the phantom sensation of his tickly fingers still on your abdomen.
***
“Tickling you is really fun,” George said. “I mean, it’s cute. You smile and you laugh and it’s adorable, and I know it makes you happy.”
You flushed, biting your lip. “But…?”
“No, no but. Well, maybe? I think…If you did it to me, I don’t know if I would hate it or not, but…I know you’ve mentioned that you like it either way…If you wanted to try, I mean, I’d be open to it.”
He was blushing, too. How fucking cute could he be?
“Really?” you asked. “I mean, if you’re open to it, I would love to try. Only if you’re sure, though. I know your brothers were pretty harsh, so I don’t wanna push.”
“No, I’m…I want you to try it. You always look like you’re having so much fun. And, it might take my mind off of the three surgeries I scrubbed in on today.”
You grinned. “It is a pretty good distraction.”
He laid back against the mattress, looking up at you with those doe eyes. You grinned, sitting up beside his body and using one hand to stroke his hair. “Where should I start, hm?”
George squirmed. “Well, when I was younger, my stomach was really bad. And, and my sides. But I’m pretty much ticklish everywhere, as you’ve discovered during other activities, which, if I had known you liked it, I wouldn’t have apologized so many times when I laughed—”
You interrupted his rambling by using one hand to lightly tickle his stomach, feeling his muscles jump beneath your fingertips, listening to the loud, squeaky laugh that burst from his lips.
“Still bad?” you asked.
“Still ticklish, but it doesn’t suck,” he giggled in response. He was clearly fighting to keep still, his hands balled into fists at his sides.
You grinned. “You’re so cute.”
“I’m not cute,” he cried. “I’m a strong, masculine—Ah!”
His laughter took on a new octave as you introduced your other hand to his belly.
“Too much?”
He shook his head. Then, after another minute, he shook it again. “Wait, no, actually, too much!”
You stopped immediately. “Are you okay?”
George wrapped his arms around his middle, protecting his middle although your onslaught had already stopped. “I’m fine, I’m fine, it’s just…still a lot.”
“No worries. I know, it can be really overwhelming sometimes.”
He smiled. “A little. But I didn’t hate it,” he said. “We can try it again, another time.”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah, of course. For now, cuddle me.”
And, well, how could you say no to that?

Addison walks towards the break room, hoping to find Amelia there before it’s too late. She walks into the room, luckily seeing the youngest Shepherd sitting on the couch, coffee in hand, talking with Maggie Pierce. “Amelia, could I talk to you for a minute?” She says right away, skipping the pleasantries.
With a look, Amelia stands up. “Sure.” She chuckles quietly, slightly nervous. “What’s up?” She asks after Maggie leaves to room for the two.
“I called Doctor Y/L/N here to help me with a patient of mine, she’s arriving today.” She tells, trying to gauge what Amelia’s thoughts are about seeing her ex again. “I wanted to tell you before she’s here.”
“Okay, thanks for telling me.” And with that Amelia leaves the room. Addison sighs, rubbing her forehead. Suddenly she isn’t too sure if she did the right thing, but she really needs Y/N here, she’s the best in her field. She just has to hope everything goes smoothly.
“Addison!” Y/N’s voice calls out excitedly.
The red head turns around to see her doctor friend walking towards her with a bright smile. “Hey, stranger.” Addison laughs, meeting her half way to hug her. “I’m so glad to finally see you. How was the world?” She pulls away, her hands on Y/N’s shoulders to see how much she has changed over the years.
“The world was good.” Y/N decided to leave the practice in Los Angeles to join the Doctors Without Borders, traveling all over the world with them. “How’s Seattle? I didn’t think you’d come back here.” She looks around the hospital. This isn’t her first time in Grey Sloan Memorial, but it has been a long time since she was last here.
“Seattle is good. You know I go where babies need me, and this baby needs us both.” She nods her head forward, so they start walking. “The baby is two months old and his heart is incredibly weak. He won’t survive without a donor heart, but getting a heart that small will take too much time.”
“That’s where I come in.”
“That’s where you come in.” Addison smiles, she missed working with her. “His heart could become strong enough, if you fixed the veins around it.” They walk into a room full of pictures of the baby’s heart and veins.
Y/N looks through the pictures, at times picking one of them up to see it closer. The heart is compromised, and the baby won’t survive long if they do nothing, but the surgery Addison is talking about is incredibly risky. Fortunately, Y/N is a risk taker.
“I can do it,” she states, “but I’m gonna need a lot of help. His vitals need to be monitored closely.”
Letting out a sigh of relief, Addison nods. “I’ll get you anything you need.” She pauses for a moment, contemplating on saying anything. “Amelia is here, you know? Incase you wanted to talk to her.”
“Oh.” Y/N clears her throat, cleaning up the pictures into a neat pile so she wouldn’t have to look at Addison staring at her. “I didn’t know that.” She mumbles.
The now silent and tense atmosphere of the room makes Addison question whether she made the right decision. Amelia is one of the most important people in her life, she’s her sister, but she also cares about Y/N a lot. Their relationship didn’t really end on the best terms, mostly because of Amelia’s addiction, but the relationship itself was good. They both were happiest Addison has ever seen when they were together.
“I’ll make a surgery plan and then get back to you, okay?” Y/N states, not waiting for Addison to answer as she leaves the room.
Her mind is all over the place, which makes her walk through the hallways with less attention than usually, though she does greet the familiar faces going past her. However, she doesn’t notice the person walking right towards her with the same state of mind. So, they crash into each other.
All the pictures Y/N was holding fly to the floor. “Shit, I’m sorry.” She grumbles, kneeling down to gather them.
“Y/N?”
The familiar voice makes her head snap up. Amelia is standing over her, an indescribable look on her face. The exes stare at each other in silence, both unsure what to do. They both knew of the others presence in the hospital, but they didn’t think they’d bump into each other, at least not yet.
Her breath hitches as she looks over Amelia’s face. As much as she doesn’t like admitting it, she missed her. “Amy.” With a mumble, Y/N stands up, dusting off her scrubs.
“Amelia, no one calls me Amy anymore.” She says with a small smile. Y/N just nods, putting it to her mind. “I haven’t seen you in a while.”
“Yeah.”
Amelia scratches the back of her neck. “So, Addison called you.”
“She did.” The pictures are starting to crease in her grip. “There’s a..baby, obviously, uhm, and she needed help.” She clears her throat, looking around for an exit. “I actually have to make a surgery plan for tomorrow, so, I’ll see you around, I guess.”
Going to walk past Amelia, she stops once a hand takes hold of her arm. “Could we talk? Just the two of us, later today.”
The ask makes Y/N hesitant, but the way Amelia is looking at her makes her give in. “Okay.”
“Awesome,” a smile spreads on Amelia’s face, “coffee, after work?”
“I’ll see you then.” She lets go and Y/N walks away, Amelia’s eyes never leaving her back.
Amelia paces around the lobby of the hospital, her mind racing a mile a minute. She has always considered Y/N her biggest love, maybe even soulmate, if she truly believes in them. Seeing her again has brought the feelings back to the surface and she isn’t sure what to do with them.
Her thoughts come to a halt when she notices Y/N walking towards her. Instead of her scrubs, she’s now wearing her everyday clothes. She looks just as beautiful as she did all those years ago. And she decides to tell her so, “you look beautiful.” Y/N hums with a slight smile, her cheeks turn warm, but she pays no mind to it. “There’s a small cafe down the street.”
“Let’s go then.” As they walk side by side, Y/N bites the inside of her cheek, looking down at the pavement. The silence is uncomfortable and they desperately want to break it, but neither of them know what’s appropriate to say in a situation like this. “How have you been?” Y/N decodes to ask, glancing at Amelia.
“Better. A lot better actually. I’ve been sober for a long time, though it’s still hard sometimes. I got two new sisters, sort of,” she chuckles, “Meredith and Maggie. And I’m the head of neuro department.”
“I heard about Derek. I’m sorry.”
“Yeah.” Amelia sighs. “It’s okay.” She opens the door of the cafe for Y/N before stepping inside herself. At the counter, they order their coffees, and when it comes time to pay, Amelia pushes Y/N’s hand away from the machine. “My treat.” She pays both of their coffees.
“You didn’t have to.”
“I wanted to.” They move to the other side pf the counter to wait for their coffees. “It’s the least I can do after,” she pauses, “everything.”
“It wasn’t completely your fault.” She looks away from her. “You were going through a tough time.”
“That’s no excuse. I hurt you and drove away one of the best things in my life.”
Being one of the best things in her life sounds like an exaggeration, but the sincerity in Amelia’s eyes makes her believe she really means it. “You’re also important to me.” Before the conversation van keep on going, the barista shouts their names. They take their coffees and find a quiet corner place to sit.
“So, what have you been doing all there years?”
“I moved around with Doctors Without Borders.” Y/N sips her drink. “Also studied a bit on the side.”
“And your love life?”
If Amelia was anything, she was blunt. If she wanted know something, she’d ask, Y/N usually liked her unfiltered talk. “Love life, huh?” She giggles with a shake of her head. “There were some flings and one time things, you know, to release stress I suppose. But nothing that stayed.” Amelia listens intently while she drinks her coffee. “And you?”
She shrugs. “There was Link and Kai, but just like every relationship I have had, they ended with someone’s heart broken.” Amelia has a grin on her face. She has already gotten over the past two relationships, but it’s still disheartening to have failed relationships.
“Hm, you’ll find your person.”
“Maybe,” Amelia keeps eye contact with Y/N, “I really hope so.”
Looking down, Y/N taps the mug in front of her with her nails, all the feelings around them getting overwhelming. “Listen,” she changes the subject, “could you be in the surgery tomorrow? I need someone to monitor her brain activity, and you are the best there is.” She lifts her head to give Amelia a teasing look. “Or at least you used to be. Have you gotten worse over the years?”
“Worse? Do you know who you’re talking to? I’m better than ever.” Amelia answers to the teasing look with a challenging look of her own. “What I’m hearing is, you need my help because you aren’t in the best shape.” Her elbows are leaning against the table.
“Oh, wow.” Y/N crosses her arms. “Your ego is still sky high.”
Amelia laughs, which Y/N giggle as well.
The surgery has been going on for six hours already, and the whole room is tense. Amelia and Addison are monitoring the baby’s health, while Y/N is rerouting the veins near the heart. The surgery is already nearing its end, but there’s still things to do.
Y/N lets out a sigh, shaking her hand to ease the pain in her wrist. It has stayed on one position for a long time. She can feel multiple pairs of eyes on the side of her head, there’s an audience in the viewing room. This is an once in a lifetime surgery after all. Double checking everything she has done, Y/N lifts her head to her friends. “Are his vitals good?” The two nod. “Alright, we’re ready to close.” She says shakily, not ready to relax just yet. But she can feel the relief coursing through the room.
The sutures closing the opening on the baby’s chest don’t take long, as the wound isn’t as big as on an adult. The moment the last suture is on its place, people in the viewing room start cheering, so do the doctors in the operation room. Addison and one other doctor take the baby to NICU, not before thanking Y/N though.
Walking out of the room, Y/N slumps down to a chair, taking off her scrub cap. Amelia sits down next to her. “Watching you work is seriously magnificent.”
Y/N laughs, “you’re being dramatic.”
“I’m not!” Amelia throws her arm around Y/N’s shoulders, giving her a side hug. “You’re incredibly and I love you.” Y/N turns to look at her. “Give me another chance? Go on a date with me?”
“Okay.”
“Yeah?” Amelia grins widely.
“Yeah.” Y/N smiles too, her heart beating a hundred miles. She isn’t sure if it’s from the surgery she just did, or the fact that Amelia is looking at her like she’s the only person she cares about.
Amelia nods, feeling like she just won the lottery. “I’ll pick you up at eight, wear something pretty.” She kisses her cheek before walking off, going straight to Addison to tell the good news.

Summary: Amelia Shepherd meets a talented young medical student who wants to learn from her. A close relationship develops between the two of you, with Amelia not only sharing her medical expertise, but also acting as a mentor and friend while you help Amelia regain confidence in herself after botching a surgery that she actually knows by heart.
ᕚ---ᕘ
Amelia Shepherd hurried through the busy hallways of Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, her gown flapping behind her as she was summoned to a consultation. Her mind was whirling as she prepared to tend to a new patient when suddenly a gentle voice snapped her out of her thoughts.
"Excuse me, Dr. Shepherd? Would you have a moment for me?" you asked and Amelia turned around, a young woman with a backpack over her shoulder and a stack of books under her arm catching her eye. Your eyes sparkled at her, and the neurosurgeon could immediately see the glint of curiosity in them.
"Of course," Amelia spoke and smiled. She tilted her head to the side and slipped her hands into her coat pockets before continuing. "How can I help you? Are you hurt?"
You stepped closer and held out your hand. "No. My name is y/n y/l/n. I am a medical student interning and I heard that you are one of the best surgeons here. I would really like to learn from you."
Amelia's smile deepened as she saw the determination in your expression. "It's nice to meet you, y/n. And of course I'm happy to help you. What exactly do you want to learn?" she asked and you beamed with joy, keeping pace with her as she continued walking, signaling you with a hand signal to follow her. "Anything you can teach me! I admire your work and want to learn as much as I can from you."
The brunette felt a wave of warmth in her heart. It had been a long time since someone had so enthusiastically asked to be her mentor. Far too long. "Well then let's get started." she said, leading you through the corridors of the hospital to the consultation she was needed for.
In the following days, Amelia and you spent a lot of time together. She showed you the different departments of the hospital, explained complex medical cases and even let you watch some operations. As you worked together, you began to get to know each other better, and Amelia became more and more impressed by your intelligence, ambition, quick wit, and kindness.
One day, while you were taking a break together in the cafeteria, you turned to Amelia with a shy smile. "Could I perhaps ask you for a favor, Dr. Shepherd?"
Amelia nodded and placed a hand on your shoulder while fishing for her fork with the other hand. "Of course, y/n. What's wrong?"
You hesitated for a moment before continuing nervously. "Well, I recently heard about a scholarship available for promising young doctors like myself, but the application process is quite demanding. I was wondering if you could perhaps write me a recommendation?"
Amelia smiled softly and nodded. "Of course I will, y/n. I'm sure you're an excellent candidate. I'm happy to support you and hope to see you here permanently as a medical student." She answered and you beamed with gratitude and relief, barely able to contain your joy. "Thank you, Dr. Shepherd. You have no idea how much this means to me."
"From now on it's Amelia, not Dr. Shepherd." She interrupted and as she continued to smile at you, she couldn't help but feel warm and fulfilled. In you she saw not only a talented young medical student, but also a friend and a possible successor. And she looked forward to supporting you on your journey, just as so many others had supported her when she was an aspiring doctor herself.
ᕚ---ᕘ
The news of your successful acceptance into the prestigious Grey Sloan scholarship spread like wildfire through the hospital, and Amelia couldn't help but beam with pride as she prepared to teach you everything she knew.
When you came to see her in person the next day, Amelia could hardly contain her excitement. “Congratulations, y/n!” she shouted, walking the last few centimeters towards you to pull you into a strong hug.
You grinned widely with joy and returned the hug as you laid your head on her chest and she planted a kiss on the top of your head. "Thank you, Amelia! I couldn't be happier!"
Amelia stepped back and regarded you with a beaming gaze as she wrapped an arm around your shoulder, leading you with her. "You deserve it, y/n. I knew from the beginning that you would make it."
The two of you walked up to a meeting room before you started talking about the future and how you would work together. You were excited to finally have the opportunity to develop the full extent of your knowledge and skills, and the neurosurgeon promised to support you every step of the way.
In the weeks and months that followed, an even closer friendship developed between the two of you. You continued to spend a lot of time together, both in and out of the hospital, sharing your thoughts, fears, and dreams.
Amelia was impressed by your eagerness and insatiable desire to learn and grow. She recognized that you were not only a talented aspiring doctor, but also a remarkable young woman with a strong moral compass and a warm heart.
As a mentor and friend, she stood by you when you needed support, be it with difficult medical cases that she assigned to you or with personal challenges. She encouraged you to do your best and never give up, no matter how big the obstacles might be.
And while Amelia helped you grow professionally and personally, she also found comfort and inspiration in your close friendship and enthusiasm. Together you went through ups and downs, but through your mutual support and affection, you grew stronger and closer together.
For Amelia, you were not just a student or a colleague, but an important companion on her own path, and she was grateful for the chance to have you on her path. Because in you she not only found a mental heir, but also a friend for life. She was able to lean on you especially in the difficult times, like during the time of her brother's death.
She had thrown herself back into work immediately after the funeral without taking a few days off, and now she was standing in front of the mirror in the relaxation room at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, staring at hersel. Her eyes shone uncertainty and self-doubt as she reflected on the events of the last few weeks.
An operation gone wrong. A patient who had suffered. And above all, the agonizing realization that she, an experienced surgeon, had made a mistake. A mistake that could have been avoided. A mistake that haunted her and shook her confidence in her own abilities.
Since her brother's tragic death, Amelia had struggled with grief. She had thrown herself into work to distract herself and numb the pain, but somewhere deep inside her doubt continued to gnaw at her. You had been a constant source of support and comfort during this dark time. As her young student and friend, you had not only supported Amelia with medical matters, but also served as an emotional support, encouraging her and reminding her that she was not alone.
There was a knock on the door that took her out of her thoughts and you walked in, a worried look on your face. "Amelia, how are you?" You asked softly, stepping closer. The brunette sighed and turned to you, her eyes dark with pain. "I'm sorry, y/n. I failed. I should have been more careful, I should have been better."
You moved closer to her and put a hand on her shoulder from behind, giving it a tight squeeze. "Am, everyone makes mistakes sometimes. You're only human." You spoke but she shook her head at your statement, unable to overcome the self-blame that tormented her. "But I should have known, y/n. I should have known better."
You looked at Amelia seriously and then lowered your voice to a very soft, quiet whisper. "Amelia, I know you are going through a difficult time. But I want you to remember who you are. You are an incredibly talented and passionate neurosurgeon. You have helped so many people and saved so many lives. Mistakes don't define your entire career."
Your words slowly penetrated Amelia's veil of self-doubt. She raised her eyes to meet yours, but you nudged her to look back in the mirror. When she had done this, you spread her legs with a light kick of your foot and placed one arm after the other on her hips. "Say it, Amelia."
"I am a superhero, let me fly." She whispered and you made the gesture with your hand that warned her to repeat the sentence. You had her repeat it several times until she realized which reflection she was looking into. "Just one strong and combative personality can make mistakes and still shine as much as you do in your Superman pose."
"Thank you, y/n. It means a lot to me." She spoke much stronger and you smiled softly. "We all need a reminder of who we really are sometimes. You are not alone, and I am here to help you remember."
Amelia threw her arms around you before getting back to work with you. Slowly but surely, Amelia began to regain her confidence in herself. With your support and your regular forcing to pose as Superman whenever she had self-doubts again, she overcame them and returned to her true passion: healing and helping people.
Amelia's journey has not been easy, and there have been many challenges and setbacks along the way. But with your continued support, she found herself back, strengthened by your friendship and unwavering confidence in her.

So sorry this to me absolutely forever to write 😅 Thank you so much for requesting and for waiting!!
Arizona Robbins x Callie Torres x Female Reader 1,895 words
You let out a loud gasp. Your eyes wide and brimming with tears - though not from pain, you were still in shock and the adrenaline was coursing through your veins. You had been shot. Actually been shot. You stared at the entry wound only a few centimetres below your right collarbone, oozing blood.
Suddenly, a hand scrambled over your shoulder and pressed, hard, against the puncture. You let out a sharp hiss and looked to your side to see an angry Karev. His eyebrows furrowed and his face turning red as he spoke at you. You looked at him vacantly.
"Are you stupid!? You could have died," he yelled quietly, but you could hear the troubled twinge in his words. "Are you even listening?" Alex paused as he searched yours eyes before you nodded, the action so small he would have missed it if he hadn't been focused solely on you. Alex grabbed your hand and pressed it against your wound, "Hold pressure," he ordered as he straightened to pull his scrub top off and you watched as he balled the fabric and pushed it under your hand.
A small head caught your attention from behind him- "Riley," you whispered and the young boy peeked out from hiding behind his hands, his brown eyes wider than you had ever seen before, "it's okay, Riley, I'm okay- see? Just a little blood, nothing you haven't seen before," you smiled at him and you saw the boy nod his head.
You turned to Alex beside you, "Hold him," you whispered, "he's scared." Noiselessly, Alex moved over to the boy and held out his arms to which the boy climbed into almost immediately. Alex Karev would make an excellent peds doctor, he had a way with kids, an understanding, that only so many had. He carefully took a seat on the lift floor beside you, Riley's arms around his neck as his small head rested on his shoulder. You stared at the metal door in front of you and sighed, "they're locked, aren't they?" Alex only nodded his head in response.
It had been hours since you had been shot and you were all still trapped inside the lift. Riley had only wanted to go on a trip around the hospital. Your eyes fluttered, fighting, to stay open and you felt the goosebumps travel up your arms toward the back of your neck. You shivered. Karev noticed. You didn't. Alex's eyes widened as he took in your appearance; you were losing too much blood.
"Y/n." He said as he shook your shoulder, you only hummed in response, the makeshift gauze fell easily and he cursed lightly underneath his breath. He looked at your wound, still oozing blood. Those doors needed to open. Alex looked around the lift for signs of anything that could help, his heart beating so loud he could hear it. He gritted his teeth, he didn't want it to come to this.
"Riley," he started and the boy lifted his head from his shoulder, "I need you to do an important job for me, okay?" Alex nodded his head and Riley did the same. "I need you to hold this down," he showed him the cloth, "just like I'm doing, okay?" Riley was hesitant and so Alex guided his hands down and showed him how much pressure he needed. "Okay?"
"Okay," Riley replied and Alex leapt over to the doors. His shaky hands fumbled as they pushed against each of the buttons with a loud click. Alex paused to curse under his breath, hands on his hips before he smashed his fists against the metal door - at first in annoyance, but then over and over again with desperation. The sound echoed around the small box, ringing. His fists felt hot and his heart burned; he couldn't let you die in there.
"Doctor Alex!!" Riley screamed, barely audible over the banging. Alex's head whipped around to see Riley's tear-stained face, his hands still holding pressure, but your chest had stopped rising. He scrambled over to you and pressed an ear to your heart - nothing. He wrapped one hand over the other and pumped your chest rhythmically. "Is she dead?" Riley whispered.
"No! Not today, I won't let her," Alex huffed as he worked to start your heart again. After so many pumps he tilted your head back and forced air into your lungs before going back to the chest compressions. Beads of sweat collected at his hairline and his breathing fast enough to use up all of the oxygen within the lift. With one final breath he pushed an ear to your chest and let out a dramatic sigh of relief as he slumped into himself over you. "God damnit, Y/n." He quietly croaked out and the room fell into a heavy silence.
A deafening crack sounded from just outside the lift doors, only a few seconds after you had responded, and Alex sprinted to the doors and tried to pry open the doors with his fingertips.
"GSW to the right collarbone, resuscitated in the field!" Alex Karev shouted as he dragged your stretcher toward the row of ambulances. He watched as Webber ran to meet him. "Patient is Doctor Y/n Y/l/n and is unresponsive," he called out and Webber's face fell as he took in the new information. Nodding his head, Webber grabbed a hold of the stretcher and directed you to the correct bay.
Now, Callie and Arizona had been rescued a few hours before you had and they stood in silence - watching, waiting, worrying - blankets over their shoulders as they gripped each other's hand. There was so much going on it was hard to know if you were still in the building or if you had gotten out, to know if you were hurt or safe or if you were even still alive. They didn't want to think about that, it was a possibility that they just couldn't stomach.
However, when they saw Alex Karev marching with a stretcher, both of their hearts sunk to the pit of their stomach because a familiar figure lay unmoving on it. They turned to each other, blue eyes meeting brown mirroring the same questioning expression. The two of them strained to watch through the noise and crowd, but they heard your name, loud and clear, as if the words had tunneled its way toward them. Without a seconds hesitation, Callie and Arizona were running, weaving through the crowd to get to you.
By the time they had gotten there, your heart had stopped and Alex was, once again, resuscitating you. Arizona choked back a sob shaky hands covering her mouth as Callie wrapped a hand around her waist to keep her from moving any closer. Your shirt - Arizona's shirt - was covered in blood, your blood. You had blood on your face, your eyes closed and eyelashes touching your cheek as if you were sleeping. You looked almost peaceful if it wasn't for the way your body jolted with every compression.
"Oh my god, Y/n.." Arizona cried as she turned into Callie for comfort. Callie prayed for you to pull through in hushed whispered under her breath as tears brimmed her eyes.
"GET THEM OUT OF HERE," Alex shouted as he continued to pump into your chest, the motion tiring his arms, but he was not going to stop now not after he had gotten you out. Over his concentration he barely noticed Webber escorting the two worried doctors away.
Arizona's hand rubbed soothingly across Callie's knee as she nervously chewed on her nails; the two sitting in a heavy silence, weighted by their worry for you. After they had been dragged away, you had been transported to Seattle Pres for an emergency surgery. You were going to be fine, they told themselves through the silence. As the time ticked by they shared only a few words and a few soft smiles. They couldn't talk about you, even if they wanted to. Each of their throats constricting at just the thought of you and if they had been able to start, they most likely wouldn't have been able to finish: you were their whole world.
Callie stole a swig of water from her girlfriend's cup as she rested against her shoulder, her blonde hair hiding her stress-ridden face. Time had passed significantly which was evident from the dark night sky and still there was no news of you. That was until Callie's eyes landed on a familiar figure pushing through the glass double doors to the operating rooms. At Callie's suddenly stiffening figure, Arizona stirred awake and bolted upright to be met just in time with Alex Karev stopping before them.
"I-Is she-" Callie began and before she could finish he had nodded his head with a sigh of relief. Arizona bounded into his arms and pulled Callie into the embrace as she pressed a grateful kiss to his cheek.
"Can we go see her?"
Alex lead them to your room, your monitor beating rhythmically, healthily. "The anaesthesia's still wearing off, she should wake up soon," he mumbled as he slid open the door. Wordlessly, the two thanked him before walking over to your bedside. Callie wrapped a hand around one of your own as Arizona moved to gently smooth over your knotted hair and blinked back a tear. Seeing you in bed, like you were, had made it all too real. They could have lost you, she could have lost you.
You squeezed your eyes before attempting to open them and your fuzzy vision landed on the dark-haired figure beside you as you squeezed her hand in yours.
"Hey, heyy- Arizona she's awake." You instantly followed Callie's line of site and were met with a sad smile. You let out a groan as you shifted in the bed.
"Alex told us what you did," Arizona paused and watched as your face fell recalling what you had done, "that was so stupid of you- how do you feel?" Classic Arizona, always a soft scolding before being followed up by something sweet.
"Like I got shot," you deadpanned before a smirk grew on your face. Arizona only shook her head lightly in reply, a trace of amusement in her actions.
"If you weren't bed-bound I'd kill you right now, dumbass," Callie huffed, though her thumb was still rubbing softly over the skin of your hand. Your smirk was quick to turn in a grin as you let out a light chuckle.
"Ow- god, don't make me laugh," you warned whole-heartedly as you watched her roll her eyes.
"She doesn't mean that- she's just worried, we both were," Arizona responded and you felt your heart drop to the pit of your stomach at her tone. You couldn't fathom the worry that they must have felt while you were in surgery and you felt guilt as the consequences of your actions. It wasn't just you anymore, you had two other, remarkable, people to take into consideration now that you were in a relationship.
"I love you both so, so much," you said earnestly and opened your arms for a hug.
"We love you too," they responded in unison and came together in your embrace. You really didn't deserve them sometimes and you were going to love them for as long as you possibly could.

i know that you’re spent, just let me sing you to sleep
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
an empty on-call room with the lights off, pristine white sheets on bunk beds, trying to fall asleep with the sound of beeping monitors, heavy footfalls, and panicked voices bleeding through the door…it wasn’t ideal, but it had been george’s life throughout the entirety of his internship so far.
but when he finally gets to leave the hospital, he doesn’t return to his bedroom at meredith’s house. instead, he shows up at your door, dark circles beneath his eyes and a sleepy smile curled on his lips.
you crawl into bed with him, his head resting on your shoulder.
“tough shift?” you ask, stroking his hair.
he nods, nuzzling into your neck. “i’ll tell you about it in the morning.”
“sounds like a plan,” you reply, pressing a little kiss to his forehead.
as george dozes off, you find yourself humming softly, something he had once mentioned helps him sleep after a particularly hard day.
you hum a familiar tune, something you’d heard on the radio, until george’s breath is steady, his body relaxed. it doesn’t take long for you to fall asleep, too.
