Unease
The hawk descends like an invisible hurricane whose
wind is never felt until the last breathing moment before
its beak tears into your neck, and when daylight was
blotted out by its encroaching form, it was already too
late for longer than a rabbit retains memory of its last
meal, and in that terrifying, primordial separation of
time and future, it became dinner on this blustering
spring day in a whirl of fur and blood, paw and tearing
talons, reducing a once idyllic scenario into carnage—
and every so often, I feel like I am the rabbit, waiting
for the hawk, for the invisible hurricane, which always
drops into the scene without logic, justice, or warning.

I wrote this on a post-it a couple weeks ago during a heavy bout of anxiety. I left it at my desk as a reminder. - To be honest I’m still navigating my way through a rough patch of but I still know this to be true. - Anxiety can be hard to navigate because it is not logical. I have to constantly check myself to make sure that I am not moving in a direction that is led by anxiety vs. a direction that is led by keeping my best interest in mind. Even if that means being uncomfortable or setting boundaries. - Anxiety has a way of blurring what is real and what is not... but I know that if I just keep following the path that I’ll be okay and things will pass. - Staying on path for me: this means not making any impulsive decisions for anxiety relief, or not going into flight response. 😬 - Shittiest part about anxiety is that it has to get worse before it gets better. You have to let it reach its peak before it comes down but as long as you stay on path, it will. S H A D O W Oh boy these ups and downs🙃, are you feeling this too? I have been feeling both sides of the spectrum, sometimes on the same day, sometimes in the same hour & sometimes within the same 5 minutes. I am particularly hypersensitive with noise level, big crowds, time pressure, too many demands bring sensory overload and overwhelm for me. It’s all due to the #TBI I survived when I was younger, and ironically qualities I actively denied. Like needing more time to complete tasks, difficulty completing tasks, needing more time with new concepts, forgetting the words I want to use while talking, attention deficit, fatigue, mental fogginess and the list goes on. I lived life without considering these into my life, I never wanted to limit myself so instead I tried to ignore my natural tendencies and force situations onto myself. I tried to keep up with the status quo without accommodating my needs, big no no because I was only perpetuating these qualities by trying to ignore them and making it way worse. This week my therapist told me I have #GeneralizedAnxiety and for so long I thought I suffered from #PTSD. Side note: just because you go to therapy doesn’t mean your therapist will disclose information with you, unless you ask or they are the type of therapist who will tell you. For so long I thought that this “hypersensitivity” of mine would decrease through a practice of some sort like yoga, I would extinguish it for good, like I would never have to go through an #AnxietyAttack again. I had a misconception that I needed to master some sort of bliss in order to extinguish its existence. The reality is that anxiety is apart of me, it is how I respond to the world. The reality is that instead of running away from the world, feeling less than or hiding from feelings or sensations, I accept all of these aspects of myself and how they play a part in my life. So now my work is not only accepting and loving these #Shadow aspects of myself, parts of me that I kept running away from, but working on finding better coping mechanisms. One time, someone made a joke about OCD, and I actually had the courage to tell them that it was offensive to people that have OCD. Then they told me that they DID have OCD. I'm still not sure if she actually had it or if she was lying, but that experience made me never want to talk about OCD with anyone again. I was also trying to talk to people more, and that made my social anxiety worse.
