AO3 makes my brain garbage ideas look so professional and clean. How does my rambling turn into that nice looking presentable story? It’s wild how much more motivated I am to do something with an idea if I make it into a draft on AO3 to see what my fic looks like as it comes together (also helps that I then have a deadline before it’s deleted). This is why I could never write a book, I’m too used to the validation I get from posting chapters as I go on long works.

Okay, before you jump down to the masterpieces listed below, I just wanted to state this:

These authors have given this phenomenal content for free, baked with time and effort. I have never once ignored this, hence why I try and comment on each and every one of these fics. However, my energy and ability to be verbose differs day to day. Some of these fics I have not given proper comments for, despite this, I will be on it the moment I can be. In the time being, (once I am able to find my comments on each of these fics) I will be sharing my adoration for them further in other posts (and most likely link back to this one).

If there was one thing Nico was grateful for, it was his planning period. Everyday between teaching second period AP US history and fourth period art history he could reply to angry emails, indulge into his candy stash, grade, write angry emails, refill his water, and go to the bathroom.

He had somehow ended up with the same exact schedule from one term to the next. He followed his second period out to run some arrends around the school and was scared shitless when his room was occupied with about 10 freshman. Two things were frightening about this, A: he didn't have a class third period, B: he didn't teach freshman at all this term (he could tell they were freshman, they had the scared look in their eyes).

"Woah you guys can't be in here, get to class!" He urged, slamming his stack of copies onto his desk.

"Uhm, this is our class," one of the braver ones said, " aren't you Mr. -" she knit her eyebrows together and glared at her schedule, "Di Angelo-Solace?"

Nico took a deep breath. "What class do you guys think you're in?"

The same girl, they're leader apparently, responded. "Honors English 9?"

It took all Nico had in him to not point at the various historical posters on his walls and the whiteboard dedicated to Italian verbs. He in no way taught English.

He took a deep breath (again). "There are two Mr. Di Angelo-Solaces in this school. I teach history and Italian, the other one teaches english. Go upstairs to room 302. I'll call him and let you know you're all coming."

The leader of the bunch seemed confused, but not confused enough to ask questions. She quickly gathered her things and walked out the door, causing everyone else to follow her.

Nico sighed and sat down at his desk. He knew Will had his cell off during work hours so he reached to the hardly used landline on his desk and dialed Will's classroom.

"Hel-lo" a sing-songy voice responded.

Nico smiled at the voice, "Hi love, it's me, sorry to bother I know it's syllabus day."

"It's no prob, what's up?"

"Missing half your class?"

"Yup. Got em?"

"Yup I just sent them up. Throw them a solid and don't mark them tarty. My fault I wasn't in the room when they first came in. I think I also generally scared them."

"Okay, will do, love you."

''Love you too, hun."

Nico put the phone back in it's holder and gave a soft sigh, turning to his desktop and opening his email.

"we should bully fanfic writers more when their work sucks" hi, I'm a person who doesn't even write fanfic here to say you're an asshole. fanfic is free, it's someone's hobby, they're doing it for fun, and if you don't like it you can just click the back button instead of being a little bitch

#fanfiction #it's fun to criticize Real Books but. the thing is. the authors are never going to SEE that criticism unless theyre specifically looking #for it #and they're at least making money off their story anyway #fanfic writers? 1) a lot of teenagers and 2) even the ones who aren't... they do it for fun #they do it for FUN because they WANT TO and it brings them JOY #they do not gain any money from it tho. all they gain is their joy. and when you go into their comments or ask box or whatever #SPECIFICALLY TO BE A DICK #you are taking away the thing that writing fanfic creates #grow UP.

sure lol i’ve considered it but the older i’ve gotten & the more i’ve learned abt how the publishing industry actually works the less it’s become a priority… “author” was like my dream job as a kid but it takes a lot of time & money & connections that i simply don’t have rn 2 write & publish novels so! maybe one day i’ll give it a go but 4 now i’m more focused on writing & publishing nonfiction articles/research as part of my work…of course that is not something i will make money from lol but it’s what i’ve gotta do if i want a shot at building a career in my desired field so. current priority lies there…

anyway appreciate the compliment glad u enjoy my writing <3 let’s all hold hands & enjoy it 4 free…

screeches at the top of his lungs if he's there to see it. you know this man is holding your hand while you give birth (he definitely cries with you, does not look at the doctor when they're speaking to him, he's waaaayy too focused on you because this might just be the most important thing that has ever happened in his life.) so when that cranky old asshole snatches your baby from you he's fighting like a rabid dog—gets even worse if you try to soothe him or assure him that bailey means well—your precious baby shouldn't be tainted by the hands of that asshole!

Hello, Wolfie says very guiltily, aware of how long she's been away...

I've not really had time for anything else besides actual work for the last (nearly) four years! Honestly that feels like it has flown by!

I've missed so many people from this fandom in this time, but I've still been reading and keeping my eyes on all your works when I've had signal :)

For those of you who have been interested in my work previously, or those of you who are curious as to how you disappear of the internet for 4 years - well, here we go;

So, when I came back from my sudden trip to Asia during Covid, I was offered to make the start of my trip to work with the Manatees! So of course I upped and went and I stayed for 2 years in America

From there, I thought the Amazon is actually a hop, skip and a jump compared to my home continent and I'd said about going back for so long, so I did! Everyone was so welcoming again and it was amazing to see how everyone had grown and changed since I met them, but it was honestly like coming home and I had some amazing times for another six months.

I've written a paper on biodiversity loss among land and marine animals and several speeches since whilst over in the states and I never thought I would speak at conferences of that size!

I worked with the American Institute of Biological Sciences on some of their research through 2023 and attended their conference which was amazing to interact with so many of their students and funders and give a speech on my work with the manatee.

I came back to the UK for Christmas to see my family and resettle my life here. I've done a lot of travelling now and I'm ready for some quieter times.

So now I am back, working from home mostly for the time being, sticking in the conservation sector and my work with endangered species. Three days a week I educate and two days a week I am writing papers and continuing to add (hopefully) academic work to the ever-growing internet.

But I wanted to let you all know that I'm back and I really want to get back to writing for this amazing fandom with all of you guys!

There are definitely ideas which came to me whilst I've been away which I've had to dutifully note down and stay focused, but I want to write these now and bring them to you when I can!
