I'm reading a BSD fanfic and it's an AU - Musicians/Actor one (THIS ONE) and I was reading about an award show. Didn't realise I was holding my breath but when I released it, I literally paused and was like, "damn. I just released a breath I didn't know I was holding. My god, the fanfics got to me irl." And I'm not sure how to feel about that.

i was trying to describe kingdom hearts to a friend who doesnt like the square enix catalogue that much. and it was a calm discussion, we were chill. but they asked me a question that really made me like... think about my adoration for kh.

they asked me "is it the game you love or the potential of it all?"

i think the obvious answer is a mixture of both. i enjoy kingdom hearts for what it is, flaws and all. the funny gameplay moments of BBS to the wild af lines that they say in DDD.

kh has a glimmer that few games in the current market can give to their active playerbase. nothing in the titles feel soulless or half-baked. these games go ALL OUT with their premise and they deliver 9/10 times. there's moments that make me sigh and shrug, but they're few and far between. the stuff that encapsulated me is still here and it's strung across the christmas tree in a blindingly beautiful glare.

but that being said, how much of my love for kh actually stems from what i wish it could become? i can't argue that the games are flawless and have given me exactly what i wanted. in denial of the blatant only paints you as ignorant. and sometimes, these games fall right back into bad habits. with either gameplay or story, there's rightful criticisms to be spoken of every title.

so, it's only natural for me to think of the potential it all has, yes? to see what was perhaps poor writing choices eventually meet a satisfying end? or maybe a character who i didn't think much about is given new story to play with? perhaps there's a system from previous games that gets refined and optimized for newer consoles.

maybe there's routes the story could take and drives of motivation that im sychronous with and would love to see written out. there's a story unveiling and i have my own theories about it. i wanna see if the writers go down these roads and what kind of choices they make.

then my friend asked.

and i had to sit there for a moment. and just...think.

The Duffers don't kill off their main characters. Whether you like it or not...the reason Barb and Bob and Alexei and Eddie got "written to die" in the first place was to keep the main characters alive. You can critize tf out of those choices if you want to—I know I do sometimes. But....how in the literal world do you deduce that, even if someone is right in a leak (HIGHLY debatable, given their spoiler records lacked huge swaths of context) anyone in their top billed cast is biting the dust permanently. Fic Summary:

It's the dead of summer. The heat is miserable and the days are long, but Megumi and Nobara throw themselves headlong into their training. It's easier to be occupied than to lose themselves to grief. The Goodwill Event is a welcome goal to work towards after the loss of their classmate, Itadori Yuji, and they're both determined to improve. or Megumi and Nobara's adventures during the two months Yuji was presumed dead

Chapter Preview:

Megumi rested his head against the car window, watching the blur of pedestrians and street signs zip past. The soft scent of vanilla wafted into the backseats from the little tree dangling on the rearview mirror, aided by the cool air from the vents that twisted it around on its pale cream string. The light of the midday sun reflected off shop windows directly into his eyes and he flinched away in annoyance, directing his attention to the inside of the car while trying to ignore the floating black spot in his vision.

Kugisaki was scrolling through the mission brief on the tablet beside him while Ijichi drummed his fingers on the wheel, occasionally glancing back at them through the rearview mirror. After reaching the end of the document, she offered it to Megumi.

He held his hand up in refusal and gave a small shake of his head. “I read it over last night.”

“Of course you did,” she sighed as she laid the tablet in the empty middle seat.

His eyelid twitched in irritation. “What’s that supposed to mean?”

“Oh, nothing.” She waved her hand dismissively, then continued before he could press her. “So, there’s been no recorded deaths yet, right Ijichi?”

“Right. There has only been one person injured so far, but they’re being taken care of at the local hospital and are expected to recover soon,” the manager confirmed, adjusting his glasses.

The case was fairly simple. A second-grade curse had manifested at a summer camp outside the city, and was discovered in the boat house by counselors who were preparing for the attendees. The counselor who first encountered the curse received lacerations and a couple broken bones, but the others were able to rescue them. They reported that the curse didn’t pursue them once they left the building.

Something something I have nothing against being a hater but also don't you get so tired of complaining about how people are existing in your fandom incorrectly or in a way you can't personally vibe with? Isn't calling everything cringe or problematic or incorrect or wrong making you tense and paranoid? Are you actually having fun with the stuff you enjoy or are you just thinking about how it could go sour the whole time?

Make no mistake I am responsible for my own internet curation, I am not complaining about complaining about canon or fandom gripes. I adore my hater mutuals I'm ngl. I just constantly have to filter people being catty about the way their specific guy gets written by Some People or how people in the fandom are consuming your special show wrong or treating a character in a cringe way and shipping is bad and mind numbing but also making a bunch of aro / ace headcanons is dumb and cringe but also found family is ALWAYS written wrong because nobody else gets it and this trope is stupid why is everyone obsessed with it like. Constantly. Never ending cycle. And somehow tumblr thinks I want to see more posts like that no matter how many times I click not interested. Don't you get TIRED.
