It was a normal Wednesday morning in the Buckley-Diaz household. Both Buck and Eddie were up before Chris and Y/N, which wasn't unusual. What was unusual was when Chris came out of his room to the smell of bacon but Y/N didn't. Both Buck and Eddie looked at each other in concern. "Hey, Buck and Dad." Chris said and they smiled at him
"Hey, Chris!" Buck said
"Hey, Buddy!" Eddie said at the same time. Chris sat down and Buck dished out his food but their daughter had yet to come out of her room. "I'll go and check on her." He said after looking at Buck, they had gotten to the point where they could tell what one another was thinking with just one look. Eddie began walking to her room after ruffling his son's hair, which Chris laughed at.
When Eddie got to Y/N's room he knocked first and when he didn't get a response he opened the door and peeked in. He found her curled up in a fetal position still sound asleep at first he smiled then the light caught sweat on her hairline and he frowned. He walked in further and noticed her face scrunched up in pain. He sat on her bed and rubbed her back "Princesa." He said softly using his nickname for her when she was little. She groaned but didn't stir. This wasn't like their daughter. Buck had decided to make his appearance when Eddie didn't come back after 10 minutes. He frowned when he saw her in a curled fetal position, the same position Eddie found her in. He walked in and kneeled on the ground. He looked up at Buck and Eddie shook his head.
Buck began stroking her hair. "Sweetheart? It's time to wake up." He said in a soft voice and she groaned again and Buck looked at Eddie. "You want some food? I got eggs and bacon." He said in a questioning voice. She slowly opened her eyes and grimaced.
"No." She said and looked at Eddie and then Buck. This concerned her fathers.
"You ready to get up and dressed for school?" Eddie asked with a small smile.
"Ok." She said this wasn't their talkative 10-year-old. Eddie got up and Buck stood up. They watched her slowly get out of bed and move slowly around the room.
"We'll be in the kitchen if you need us." Buck said and she nodded and they left the room. Still as concerned as ever when they walked into her room.
"She felt warm didn't she?" Buck asked Eddie and he nodded.
"Yeah, she did. Something isn't right with her. This is not like her." Eddie said and Buck agreed. They reached the kitchen and started to fix her plate just as soon as she started to come out they looked at her. Now out in the light, they could see how pale she was and her gate was slow. She had her school clothes on but they weren't going to send her to school not with her looking like that. She sat down and they put the plate in front of her.
"Hey, Y/N/N." Chris said and she smiled "You don't look so good." He said and she shook her head.
"Hey. I don't feel so good." She admitted as she took one bite of the eggs she swallowed and they could've sworn her face turned green. She jumped up and ran to the bathroom and started throwing up. All three males looked at each other and Eddie and Buck took off towards their daughter.
When they got there she was leaning over the toilet puking what she had in her stomach, which wasn't anything. So she was just dry heaving. She had tears rolling down her face. Eddie was the one to pull her hair back. "Princesa, are you ok?" He asked and she shook her head. Afraid that if she spoke she would just dry heave more. Dry heaving made her exhausted she practically fell into Eddie exhausted and he caught her. "It's ok Princesa." He said and wrapped an arm around her. He then looked at Buck.
"I'll call the school and tell them she's not going. I'll call Maddie and Chim and see if they can watch her." Buck said and looked back at their daughter who had her eyes closed and was sweating and had tears escaping her eyes.
"Yea, that sounds like a good idea." Eddie said. Buck went off into the other room. "Princesa, you want to try and get up?" He asked her. She cracked her eyes open.
"Ok." She said really out of it. He kissed the top of her head and started the process of getting up "Want Maddie." She said and this didn't surprise her father. She went through phases of wanting different people when she was sick.
"Ok, getting up on 1,2,3." He said he helped her stand and her legs were shaking like a newborn foal standing on its legs for the first time and he was mostly supporting her weight. He let her get her footing and then started to help her out of the bathroom and into the living room. "Dad is calling Aunt Maddie now." He said as he laid her on the couch she nodded her head and drifted off to sleep. He made sure she was ok then went to where Buck was in the kitchen with Chris.
"Maddie and Chim said they could take her." Buck said and that made Eddie chuckle "Did she say she wanted Maddie?" He asked.
"Yea she did. Alright, Chris, we are taking you to school and then taking Y/N/N to Maddie and Chim." Eddie said
"I'm gonna say bye to her." Chris said and they smiled. That kid really did love his sister and she loved her brother.
"Just be careful." Buck said as Chris was getting up and walking into the living room. They could hear quiet talking and that brought smiles to their faces.
When it was time to leave Buck was the one to help their daughter up off the couch while Eddie got the truck ready. They were loaded in by the time she and Buck got there. "Dad?" She asked and he looked at her.
"Yes, Baby?" He asked
"I don't feel good." She said and about that time she had leaned over and threw up in the bushes. He held her hair back and rubbed her back.
"I know, Baby. Let it all out." He said and by the time she was done Eddie was there with a washcloth wiping her mouth. They got her loaded into the truck and headed off.
When they dropped Chris off he said bye to them and his sister which she weakly returned. Then they drove to Maddie's and Chimney's house. "Why does Chimney have off?" Y/N asked weakly they both softly smiled.
"He had some things to do around the house and errands to run that Maddie couldn't." Eddie said and she nodded and leaned back against the headrest. They both looked into the review mirror concerned for their youngest.
When they arrived at Maddie's she and Chimney were already outside. All three of them got out of the truck and headed to the couple. "Oh, Honey. You don't look good." Maddie said and brought the girl into a hug "You're warm too." She said.
"Yea she tried to eat and ran to the bathroom and threw up. She was warm then too. She threw up in the bushes. She also said that she wanted you this time." Eddie said and they all chuckled.
"Well you two need to get to work. We got her from here." Chimney said and they nodded and said goodbye to their daughter and headed toward the station. The three of them headed inside. "Do you want something to drink?" He asked the girl as Maddie was helping her sit on the stool.
"No. Not hungry." She said not looking at them so she didn't see the look on their faces towards each other.
"Can you at least drink a little bit of juice or Gatorade?" Maddie asked she looked at her when she said Gatorade.
"Gatorade, please." She said and they smiled. She was always so polite. Chim nodded and got it out of the fridge and opened it for her.
It was becoming 1 PM and it was lunchtime. Y/N had moved to the couch to watch some TV when Maddie came in and sat down. "Hey, do you want to try to eat something? Chim is going to stop at Panera on his way home. He can get you some soup." She asked looking worried.
"I'll try. Can I get the tomato soup?" She asked in a small voice while looking at her and Maddie smiled.
"Of course, I'll text him. You just continue resting and drinking that Gatorade." Maddie said and swept some hair away from her face.
Chim arrived back with the food and Y/N slowly made her way to the table and sat down slowly. They looked at each concerned. "When was the first time you got sick or started feeling this way?" Chim asked the youngest and she took a bite while thinking.
"It started Friday but I didn't think anything of it. I didn't tell Papa or Dad because they were stressed. I didn't start throwing up until this morning." She said taking slow small bites of her soup.
Surprisingly she didn't run to the bathroom throwing up. They finished lunch and when she was getting up pain shot through her right side abdomen. She stopped and took in a sharp breath and this caught the attention of both adults. They turned to her and rushed to her side. "Hey, are you ok?" Chim asked and she didn't answer at first but nodded her head.
"I think so." She said breathlessly. She stood and began walking and both adults watched her eyes roll into the back of her head and her knees buckle as they rushed to catch her. They lowered her to the ground where Chim went into paramedic mode and Maddie went into nurse mode.
"Hey, Sweetheart. Can you hear me?" He asked and they got no response. He felt her pulse and it was racing. Then Maddie made attention to something.
"Chim, her right side abdomen is swollen." She said and she lifted her shirt and sure it enough it was.
"Appendicitis." Chim confirmed.
"Should we call 911 or take her ourselves?" She asked
"It'll be too long for us to take her. Call 911." Chimney said and she nodded and got up to get her phone while Chimney called 911.

The 118 had just gotten back from a call and were putting their gear away. "How's Y/N/N doing?" Bobby asked the two fathers.
"She's sick. She threw up on Buck's bacon and eggs, which she loves. She then threw up in the bushes when we were leaving." Eddie said as they walked up the stairs to the kitchen.
"Who did she want this time?" He asked knowing the girl.
"Maddie." Eddie said and they chuckled.
"It'll change the next time she's sick." Buck said while getting something to eat. "I'm kind of wondering how she's doing." Buck said and was about to make a call when the bells rang. When the alarm said the address and the situation everyone froze.
"Please tell me that is the wrong address." Buck said as they were gearing up. Once in the truck, Bobby asked for the address again. They said it and Bobby looked back to both of them as they heard the address and the situation. He watched the color drain from their face.
"Ok guys this is one of our own we treat this as any other call." Bobby said but nobody said anything.
They got to the apartment and rushed in. Eddie and Buck were the first one to her but then Hen came in and they started to assess the situation "It looks like she has appendicitis, I don't know if it has bust yet. Did she hit her head on the way down?" She asked Maddie and Chim. They shook their head.
"No, Chim caught her and then we helped lower her down." Maddie said and Hen nodded. Y/N started to come around she opened her eyes and saw her fathers and who she considered her aunts and uncles.
"Papa? Dad?" She asked when her eyes landed on them.
"Princesa, we're here. You're ok." Eddie said and then she looked at Hen and the woman smiled at her.
"Hey, Sweetie. We're going to get you to hospital ok?" Hen asked in a sweet voice and Y/N nodded. They got her on the gurney and everyone left. Maddie stopped Buck.
"We'll meet you there." She said and he nodded he could see a certain look on her face.
"This is not your fault. Ok? Nobody could've predicted this." Buck said and gently grabbed her shoulders and she nodded but tears still came to her eyes. "Hey, it is ok. We're taking her now and she's going to get the surgery that she needs. We should've seen the signs before but she's a good at hiding things." Buck said reassuring his sister. He kissed her forehead and ran to catch up with the rest.
Eddie and Buck rode in the back of the ambulance while another paramedic drove since. When they got to the hospital Hen listed what was wrong with her and they now had to wait. Bobby came up to them. "Take the rest of the day off. We'll be back to be with her and I'll bring you a change of clothes." He said and they both nodded and went to wait in the waiting room. About that time Chimney and Maddie showed up and sat with them.
"What about Chris?" Buck asked thinking of the older child.
"I'll have Carla pick him up and bring him here." Eddie said in a quiet tone. Nobody really spoke after that. It was a comfortable silence. Chimney was holding Maddie's hand and looking down and Maddie was looking at the doors wishing she was still working as a nurse to fins out what is going on. Buck and Eddie were just staring into space wondering how the missed the signs.
"How did we miss it?" Eddie asked "She never let us know she was in pain or was sick." He said shaking his head.
"She's good at hiding things." Buck said. Maddie then looked at them.
"She said that she didn't want to bother you. You were both stressed She said it started Friday but I didn't think anything of it. She also said that she didn't start throwing up until this morning." She said and if they weren't feeling bad before they were feeling bad now. Just then Bobby and Athena walked into the waiting room. Bobby handed Eddie and Buck their bags and they went and changed.
"Are they ok?" Athena asked
"They're feeling bad because they didn't catch the symptoms earlier." Chimney said
"They shouldn't feel bad. She's good at hiding things and masking pain." Bobby said and they all agreed. Eddie and Buck walked out from getting changed. Athena hugged the both of them and they hugged her back.
"Aren't you supposed to be at work?" Buck said to Bobby once Athena released the hug.
"I'm just here dropping of your bags and then heading back out. We'll be back after out shift. Athena here actually doesn't have to go back to work." Bobby said and they nodded. Bobby left after a few minutes "Keep us updated." He said and they nodded.

1 hr. later the doctor was coming out into the waiting room. "Family of Y/N Buckley-Diaz?" He said and Eddie and Buck stood up and walked over to him.
"We're he dads." Eddie said and he nodded.
"I'm Dr. Waters. We got in there just in time. Any minute later it would've ruptured. She still has a fever and we put her on IV fluids and antibiotics. She has been moved to a room. You can go and see here in room 118." He said and they nodded and he turned and left. They found it a little bit funny that she was in room 118 when they worked for the 118. They walked over to Maddie, Chimney, and Athena. They looked at them.
"The got in surgery just in time. Any minute later and it would've ruptured. She still has a fever and has been put on IV fluids and antibiotics. She's in room 118. We can go see her." Buck said and everyone sighed in relief.
"118 huh?" Chimney said with a chuckle.
"We found it funny too." Eddie said as they started to go and see the most beloved girl known to the firehouse. "I'm gonna text Bobby and Hen and let them know." He said as he started walking and texting. He also texted Carla.
They got to her room and found her sleeping peacefully and they walked in. Eddie and Buck walked over to her and brought over two uncomfortable plastic chairs and waited for her to wake up. They would've woken her up but they wanted her to sleep. Everyone else took seats around the room.
30 minutes later she woke up with a groan and her dads were up and fussing over her. "Princesa." Eddie said at the same time as Buck said "Baby." She moved slightly uncomfortbale.
"How are you feeling?" Eddie asked
"Better. What happened?" She asked
"You had your appendix removed. You fainted when you were at Maddie's and Chimney's place." Buck said and she nodded and then looked over to them.
"I'm sorry guys." She said feeling guilty. They walked over to her along with Athena. "Hi, Athena." She added.
"Hi, Sweetie." Athena said and smiled
"It's ok, really. We're just happy you're ok." Maddie said and Chimney nodded as they touched her leg. They talked for awhile until she let out a yawn and they let her back to sleep.

3:15 PM rolled around and Carla was coming in with Chris. They greeted everyone and then turned to Y/N who was awake. "Hey sis." Chris said and she smiled.
"Hey big bro." She said tiredly
"Hey, Y/N. How are you feeling?" Carla said
"Hi, Carla. I'm feeling ok just sore." She said and she smiled.
"Knowing you, you'll be back to your normal self in no time." She said and Y/N smiled they all knew it was true. Nurses and came and went throughout the day checking on her. Her fever had broke and now she had to spend the night and hopefully be released tomorrow.
She had fallen asleep again while everyone had quiet conversations. When it had turned to 5 PM Bobby, and Hen were walking into the room carrying some things. "118 huh?" Bobby asked and chuckled.
"Yea, that's the same reaction we had." Chimney said and then Y/N stirred.
"Hi Bobby and Athena." She said and smiled and they smiled bacl.
"Hi Y/N." Bobby and Hen said at the same time.
"We got you some things." Hen said and that is when they noticed the 'Get Well Soon' bear and balloon and then the flowers in Bobby's hands.
They all talked and then visiting hours were over. Buck and Eddie were allowed to stay since she was minor. Carla offered to take Chris back home and to school the next day. Once everyone left they got comfortable although they had one thing on their mind and Buck was the first one to address it. "Baby, why did you hide it from us?" Buck asked and she looked down.
"I didn't want to bother you. You both were stressed from pulling two 24-hr shifts. I didn't think it was anything just something that I ate. I'm sorry." She said and they felt their heartbreak.
"Princesa, it's ok. We should've saw the signs earlier so it's on us. Just please come to us next time." He said and she nodded her head and looked up with tears falling.
"You can always come to us." Buck said and she sniffled and then yawned. "You tired?" He asked and she nodded her head and they chuckled.
"Get some sleep. We'll be right here." Eddie said and she nodded and she scooted down with the help of her and got comfortable.
"I love you Papa and Dad." She said already going to sleep.
"We love you too." They said at the same time. They got comfortable and listened to the sound of her heart monitor beeping steadily. They promised they would pay more attention to their surroundings when it comes to their kids, even after pulling two 24-hr shifts. She also promised to come to them when she started to feel sick.

You could feel the eyes following you closely as you slipped into the kitchen to refill your glass of orange cordial. Your overprotective, puppy-dog boyfriend remained outside in the garden of the Nash household along with the rest of the team as they stood around Bobby and the BBQ grill. You knew that Buck was searching for any reason he could to follow you inside, but you met his gaze through the windows and offered him a reassuring smile that seemed to subdue him for the minute.
Since the second you found out, Buck had been glued to your side. It had been three weeks since you took that test, since your doctor had confirmed it and in that time you had, had to convince him every single day that he could leave you and go to work. Every day he fought you, wanting the both of you to stay home so you could rest and he could wait on your every want and need, but you couldn’t do that. You were only thirteen weeks along and there was hardly any reason to be confined to the bed just yet. You knew that he was only concerned about the safety of you and the peach you currently carried in your womb. It was endearing and one of the sweetest things you’d ever seen, you hadn’t thought that Buck could get any sweeter, but here you were one act away from having a mouth full of cavities.
What hadn’t helped was that Buck had been responding to a number of pregnancy calls in the past few weeks a few resulting in sadder endings than anyone wanted. They had definitely struck a chord with Buck and had only made him hover all the more.
Adding the water to your cordial, you took a sip of the orange, a light buzz filling your taste-buds. You had become obsessed with anything orange flavoured since your pregnancy diagnosis. Whether it was orange skittles (which Buck had kindly sat and sorted out for you), or orange flavoured chocolate, or even the orange flavoured cupcakes you had found at the grocery store and ate within an hour of buying, anything orange and you were all for it.
Walking back into the garden, your entire body seemed to clench a little as you stepped back into the gaze of the sun. As much as you were enjoying this down time with the 118, it was so hot. The heatwave had only hit LA in the past few days but already it was in full swing and you were feeling every beam of it.
“Y/n,” you turned over to where Athena was sat with Hen and her daughter May. The three of them were stood around the mini bar that Athena had installed, in direct sunlight. Already hot, you fought down the urge to grimace as you moved to stand by them, the sun glaring on your skin. “We were just telling May about Buck and that kiddie ride at the mall. She doesn’t believe us.” Hen informed and a grin split across your lips, taking your mind off of the sweltering heat.
“Oh my, God. I have a photo, hang on,” You pulled your phone out of your shoulder bag and set your drink on the bar, thumb flicking through the many photos in your gallery in search of the one from the Saturday before. “He thought it was funny and I tried to tell him he wouldn’t fit but he insisted,” You giggled and turned your phone for May to see. “I honestly thought I’d have to call nine-one-one.”
Displayed across your screen was the photo that still had you giggling a week later. There sat Buck, who had squeezed his way into the small metal bus which was obviously aimed for children 7 and under. But Buck had twisted his body at all kinds of angles and had somehow managed to worm his way into the ride. His head was poked out of the door hole, his legs curled up against his chest, unable to stretch out in the tiny space that his body was occupying.
What Athena and the others didn’t know was that Buck wouldn’t have gotten into the ride if it wasn’t for you. That morning your hormones had been playing you like a fiddle and every little thing had upset you, the bin bag had broken when you were trying to change it out for a new one, somehow a red sock had slipped in with your whites and now everything you owned was slightly toned pink and they had shown that advert with the puppy sat in a box, in the rain, on the side of the street with people walking past ignoring it. It seemed, that morning, that everything was stacked against you. Buck had offered to come with you to the mall so you could pick up your clothing order from a store, you had ordered certain items that they didn’t have in stock and they had delivered into the store the day before. You were buzzing to see the new pair of pumps you had ordered. You knew that in a few months if not weeks, the shoes would probably be pressing against the sides of your feet and ankles because of the pregnancy swelling, but that hadn’t stopped you from ordering them in your size. However, like everything else that morning, even that didn’t go as planned. The shoes had been delivered in the wrong colour and in a size smaller than you wanted, making them impossible to wear. Buck had seen how disheartened you had been when you left the store, trying not to cry in frustration. He had wanted to do something to cheer you up and in a joking manner he had made a bet with you that he could fit inside the kiddie bus ride.
It had definitely succeeded in cheering you up, if not from how silly he looked, his large muscular frame curled up inside the ride, from when he got stuck and couldn’t get himself out straight away. You had done what you could to help him out, but you were giggling so hard your entire body went weak. When he had finally gotten out, the two of you had continued to giggle all the way home and your mood had been lifted for the rest of the day.
“Oh, my God,” May giggled. “That’s the funniest thing I’ve ever seen. Please send me that!” she begged.
“Of course,” you agreed with a laugh of your own. “I could never gate keep on a photo like this.”
“What made him get in there?”
“It’s Buck, does he need a reason?” Hen scoffed. As the ladies continued to giggle, the heat seemed to make it’s presence known as it glared down onto you. The side of your temples was beginning to throb and your skin was starting to get slick and sticky, sweat oozing from your pores. You raised a hand to swipe at your brow, glancing around the garden for the closest seat, your legs aching.
As you moved towards one of the sun loungers, your boyfriend’s eyes caught onto your movements, already on high alert.
“Y/n? What’s wrong?” he asked, abandoning his drink at the grill and rushing towards you, one arm slipping around your waist to help guide you to the seat.
“Buck, I’m-”
“Dammit, it’s too hot out here for you. We should’ve cancelled,” he began muttering to himself. “Are you dizzy? Do you need a drink of water? What about something to eat? Is your blood sugar low? What if you’re dehydrated?” The only thing making you dizzy was the hurricane of questions Buck was sending your way, not even leaving a chance for you to answer them. One of his hands instinctively came to rest on the front of your stomach.
“Babe? Baby?” You tried to pull Buck out of his panicked rant, his eyes not once meeting yours as he kept scanning you for any visible injuries. Not that there were any, but the paranoia was getting the best of him and the heat probably wasn’t helping.
“We should get you in the shade,” he decided. “Shit, you should’ve stayed inside. You’re carrying precious cargo now, baby. You and peach can’t take this heat. We shouldn’t have come. This is all my fault-”
“Buck!” You pressed your hands to the sides of his face, directing his eyes to yours so you could try and ground him. “Buck, baby, I’m fine. We’re fine. I’m just a little hot and tired that’s all. It’s normal.” He still seemed a little uncertain, and his eyes held a lifetime of worry for you and his unborn child. “We’re okay. I promise.” You offered him a reassuring smile, your thumb coming to brush against his bottom lip rhythmically, giving him something to focus on. His eyelids pressed shut as he breathed slowly for a second.
“Are you sure? ‘Cause we can go home-”
“We’re fine. I just need to sit for a minute that’s all.” You peeked over his shoulder. “While I’m sitting, we should probably talk to the people behind you, they seem a little shocked. You kind of let the cat out of the bag.” Buck twisted his head to look around at the team behind him, everyone stood, jaws dropped and eyes wide. Eddie was the most comical of the bunch, his glass halfway raised to his mouth ready to take a sip but frozen in time with the news that Buck had unintentionally shared.
“H-Hey, guys,” He chuckled awkwardly with a sheepish grin. “I guess we have some news to share.”

Evan Buckley x Fem!Mother!Reader
a/n that is cuteee! also this is the longest thing i’ve written in a while so it might just be me waffling nonsense so lmk if it’s readable.. bur hope you like!! might start a series with buck, reader and amelia!
When Buck first met you, he was instantly enamoured. He didn’t really know if he believed in love at first sight exactly, but it didn’t take long for him to fall for you.
You were the sweetest and funniest girl he had ever met, not to mention you were incredibly beautiful, inside and out.
The first time he met your daughter Amelia, and she smiled at him, that bright smile that reminded him so much of your own, he couldn’t help but smile back, kneeling down to talk to her.
Since that moment, you three had somehow become an odd little family. Amelia was a sunshine child, immediately grinning at Buck and introducing him to her favourite teddy that she carried everywhere, Mr Bear.
“What’s his name?” Buck had said, crouching so he was face to face with Amelia as she basically thrust her small plushie into his face.
“Mr Bear!” She grinned. You hid a little laugh as his face twisted into befuddlement.
“Mr Bear, huh! He’s.. so cute! I love him!” He quickly recovered as he looked at the teddy bear. Well not exactly. Mr Bear was a bunny, a pink bunny at that. Not quite so aptly named, but your Amelia always had an odd sense of humour.
Buck had stood up again, before turning to whisper in your ear.
“I’m not going crazy right..?”
“You are not. That is a bunny” You said back, twinkle of amusement in your eye as you looked from him to the little girl standing in front of you both, smiling as she clutched her beloved teddy to her chest.
You couldn’t lie to yourself, seeing buck so caring and sweet with your daughter made your heart flutter in your chest. You already found him quite attractive, but always had the underlying nervousness that he would stop talking to you when he knew you had a kid. But Buck had taken it in his stride, not treating you any differently than before, much to your slight shock but overwhelming appreciation.
As weeks turned into months of knowing you and Amelia, Buck found himself falling deeply in love with you. Everything from your kind eyes, the same confusing yet still hilarious humour as your daughter and the care you had for everyone around you made, however medically inaccurate Hen might say, his heart stop in his chest.
After a week of knowing you, the 118 caught onto his love for you. When Hen asked him about “this new lady friend” in his life, he didn’t even try to hide it. Since then he non-stop gushed about you and little Amelia to his friends. They all pretended to be annoyed by his new cheery attitude, making fun of the pep in his step, but he knew they were happy for him.
“So when are we going to meet them?” Bobby asked, Leaning on the firehouse kitchen island, looking at Buck with his eyebrows raised, questioningly.
“Yeah, I want to meet these lovely ladies you won’t stop chattering our ears off about.” Chimney said teasingly, crossing his arms as he walked over to stand by Hen, who was mirroring the same pose.
Buck looked around and all the expecting faces of his teammates, before chuckling bashfully.
“Yeah- Yeah. I’ll ask them if they want to come round some time soon!”
Buck had immediately drove to yours after work to see you, like he did most days, immediately blurting out “Do you want to come to the firehouse to meet my friends?” The second you opened the door. You were a little shocked at the request, mostly because it had basically been out of nowhere, but you quickly said yes, ushering him into your house so you could ask your little one what she thought about going to the firehouse with Momma and Buck. You weren’t at all surprised when she practically yelled yes, jumping up and down on her little bed in excitement. Buck had laughed at her antics, holding her small hands as she bounced up and down on the bed. You couldn’t help the lovestruck look on your face as you looked at the two of them. Seeing the two people you loved most being happy together, made you more happy than you’d ever been. Loved. You loved Evan Buckley.
It was a random Wednesday when you took Amelia to the firehouse, Buck had texted you to let you know it was a… Q-Word day. You were a little confused when he actually typed Q-Word, instead of… The actual word which you weren’t allowed to say, but it made you laugh. He always made you laugh.
It was a quick walk from your house to the station, Amelia skipping and bouncing the whole way, singing a made up song as she spun around on the pavement. You held her hand as you both walked into the firestation, both of your eyes going wide as you looked at the large fire engines, neither of you having ever seen one so upclose.
Buck was a little embarrassed about it, but since he texted you he had been practically glued to the balcony of the loft, waiting to see you and your girl walking in. When you finally did, he practically jumped up, shouting your names and taking the pole down without a second thought to rush towards you both.
“The pole! Momma look!” Amelia squealed, pointing her little fingers at Buck as he descended from the loft.
“Yeah sweetheart, that’s the fireman’s pole!”
“Can i go down it?” She asked, looking up at you, tugging on your hand. You smiled down at her, before looking up at the grinning face of Evan Buckley as he rushed across the polished floor towards you.
“Why don’t you ask Buck!” Amelia squealed yes as you pointed towards him as you said it and she let go of your hand, running full speed toward him.
He quickly lifted her up in a hug, before placing her back down, a bright grin on his face as she smiled up at him.
“Come with me!” He said, holding her hand. He looked back at you quickly, his smile almost getting brighter, though you might have been imagining it.
“You too! You’re gonna love Cap- Bobby and Hen and Eddie and Chimney!”
Amelia stopped walking.
“Chimney?” She asked, tilting her head, puzzled look on her little features.
You and Buck laughed, and you walked up to her, taking her other hand in yours.
“It’s a nickname! Like Buck!” He quickly explained.
She was silent for a second.
“Your names not Buck!?”
You widened your eyes, looking up at him before you both burst into laughter.
“No, Honey, it’s a nickname! His name is really Evan.”
“Oh.. Can I have a nickname?”
You smiled down at her while Buck smiled at you before crouching next to her.
“What do you want to be your nickname?”
She paused, hand on her chin, in thought, and Buck stifled a giggle at the sight.
“Amy!” She grinned, looking at You then at Buck. You both looked at each other, your expressions softening.
“I love it, sweetheart. My little Amy.”

Evan Buckley let out a heavy sigh as he checked over the schedule he’d made for parent-teacher interviews. Teaching kindergarten was quite the change from the fourth and fifth graders he’d been used to, but so far, the seventeen little darlings in his class had been, for the most part, a refreshing new experience. He’d struggled initially, trying to find ways to entertain a classroom of five year olds, but after a week or two, he’d found his groove, settling in nicely in his new surroundings. The school district he’d transferred to was underfunded, a stark difference from the well-to-do private school he’d worked at for the previous three years, but, he appreciated the change - the private school circuit wasn’t for him, he’d learned, and the longer he stayed, the worse it seemed to feel staying in it. 
Buck looked up at the clock and furrowed his brow. He had exactly 45 minutes before parents and caregivers would start filing in, eager to meet their son or daughter’s new teacher, probably reacting with shock or surprise to learn that a man was teaching kindergarten, like his new co-workers had done when he started. He wasn’t sure what was so strange about the concept, but for some reason, it felt like a lot of people couldn’t wrap their heads around the idea. He sighed as he got up from his desk and headed down the hallway, the sound of his footsteps echoing as he strolled down the empty corridor. 
In the small staff lounge sat a few round tables and aged chairs, upholstered with vinyl and flattened padding, hardly comfortable to sit in for any length of time. On the counter sat a coffeepot that looked to be about as old as Buck was. He’d been hesitant to use it before, questioning both the sanitation and safety of it, but, if he was going to be hosting these interviews until well into the evening, he needed something to get him through the next four and a half hours. He just hoped that coffee would be strong enough. 
Back at the comfortable familiarity of his desk, a mug of burnt, flavourless coffee in hand, he looks around the classroom, surveying the layout in an attempt to determine if he needed to make any last minute changes in the next twenty minutes of free time he had. He sighed, realizing there wasn’t much that could be done to improve the room with the small time-frame and limited budget. Twirling a pen between his fingers, he looked out the window, watching the clouds rolling in the California sky. Focusing his attention for a moment, he looked down at the stack of papers, neatly situated on the desk in front of him. 
“Right,” he said to himself as he started sifting through the papers, ensuring each student was sorted according to the rudimentary schedule he’d made. “You’ve got this, Buck, you can handle it. A dozen and a half kindergarteners and parents. It’s fine.” 
Right on cue, the first parent entered the room at 4 pm, escorting their young daughter in the doorway, ushering her to a seat. Buck stood from his seat for a handshake, awkwardly accepted by the parent. He sat back down and nodded his head. It was going to be a long night.

“Alright, Holly, are you ready to for Mommy to meet your teacher?” you asked your five-year-old as you stood in the hallway outside of her classroom. 
It was later in the evening, the 7:45 slot being the only one you could make work with your hectic work schedule. Holly nodded her head excitedly, tugging on your hand as she tried to pull you into the classroom. You started cycling through a dozen of scenarios in your head, each one playing out how the parent-teacher interview was going to go. You knew very little about your daughter’s teacher, admittedly. You knew a form had come home with Holly on the first day of school, introducing them, but a coffee spill later, that form ended up in the trash before you had a chance to read it.
“Holly!” her teacher smiled warmly, crinkles by his eyes softening as he looked at your daughter. “I’m Mr. Buckley,” he nodded, extending his hand out to you for a handshake. “Mr. Evan Buckley.” He laughed, his cheeks turning red.
“It’s nice to meet you, Mr. Buckley,” you smiled. His grip on your hand was firm, yet gentle. He dropped your hand after holding it a moment longer than he might’ve needed to, before taking his seat at his desk. 
“Please, you can call me Evan,” He nodded, smiling as he took a seat. He gestured to the empty chairs in front of his desk, “Please, have a seat.”
Once seated, Evan folded his hands neatly over the stack of Holly’s school work. A pair of tired baby blue eyes looked at you, meeting yours with a softened expression. You could tell he’d been at the school for hours, probably wishing he’d chosen another career choice at this stage, having been stuck in this building since at least 8 am. His dark blonde hair was neatly brushed back, strands held in place with styling product. His dark green sweater accented his pale skin, cheeks rosy and pink from a little too much sun, the pale blue collar of his dress shirt laying flat against his sweater’s neckline - he somehow looked exactly how you’d imagined a male kindergarten teacher to look, and nothing at all like how you’d imagined all at once. 
“Holly’s an exceptional student,” he began, nodding his head. “She’s always there to help her friends, and she’s been hard at work practicing the letters of her name. She’s been making some great attempts at writing her name.”  
“She has, has she?” You beamed, looking over at Holly, who was now nodding proudly at you. 
Evan produced a few sheets of paper with Holly’s name sprawled across the page in large, clumsy handwriting, on brand for a five-year-old child. He shot Holly a smile, sharing in the pride she’s showing for her work. 
“It’s been a team effort, but Holly’s been able to write it by herself for a few tries. We just needed to figure out which hand she felt most comfortable trying to write with first, right Holly?” He smiled, flashing a row of perfectly straight, white teeth, a smile you’d expect to see on a poster in your dentist’s office. 
Holly nodded her head in agreement as you and Evan continued to discuss Holly’s progress in school, how you’d been struggling the past six months since her dad walked out, and how you were relieved to hear that it hadn’t impacted her performance in school. 
After what only felt like a few seconds of discussion, you looked over to see Holly yawning, her eyelids looking heavy with exhaustion. The clock on the wall said 8:20 pm - your meeting had gone 20 minutes over the scheduled time, and now, Holly would be getting to bed later than usual.  Quickly, you stood up, shaking hands with Evan once again. 
“It was nice meeting you, thank you for being so supportive of Holly and helping her settle into school.” You started, nodding your head. “I really appreciate it.”

Buck let out a sigh, the clink of metal keys against the ceramic dish on the table by the door echoing throughout his quiet apartment. It was 9pm on a Friday, and instead of going out with his friends, like most late twenty-somethings, he’d be tucked in on the couch within the next five minutes, takeout containers scattered across his coffee table. He set the paper carry bags on the counter while he rummaged around the kitchen for a clean fork. He knew he should have run the dishwasher before he left that morning, but in his hurry to make it to school early enough to allow time to set up for meeting parents all evening, he’d forgotten half a dozen things he’d planned on doing. 
Settling for a plastic fork that he’d found in the back of a drawer, likely stored away from a previous takeout meal, he grabbed his food and sunk down into his couch, a heavy, exhausted sigh drawing from his lips. He began tucking into his dinner, tv remote in the other hand as he shoveled veggie fried rice into his mouth. Sports highlights droned on in the background, something about how the World Series was progressing, two teams Buck didn’t care enough about to pay attention to battling it out for the championship. 
As he flipped through the channels, he found himself unable to focus his attention on anything. Well, almost anything. 
The only thing his mind could focus on was the last parent interview he’d had for the night. The one with Holly’s mother - a newly single mom who was trying her best, but had to balance a hectic work life with an impending divorce and a five-year-old. 
“Thank you for being so supportive of Holly and helping her settle into school, I really appreciate it.” 
The woman’s voice echoed in his head, her gratitude evident on her face as she spoke. Buck couldn’t help but feel his heart swell with joy when he heard how she spoke so positively - a welcome change from the disdain and boredom he was met with from the vast majority of parents he spoke to. Blank stares and uninterested nods, “mhmm”s and a couple of “why are we even doing this? It’s kindergarten.” – but not with you. 
With you, it was entirely different. Smiling and laughing as you talked, a sense of concern for you washing over Buck as he listened to your concerns about Holly’s transition into school now that your ex-husband had taken off. As he watched you talk, the prettiest set of eyes he’d ever seen fixed on him, your perfect pink lips pursing into the sweetest pout he’d ever seen as you thought, mulling over what Buck was telling you about Holly, dewy, sun-kissed skin accented beautifully by your floral print dress, a light, acid-washed denim jacket draped over your shoulders, framing your figure like a work of art. 
The next morning, Buck rubbed his bleary eyes, blinking a couple of times to orient himself. He’d fallen asleep on the couch, again. It wasn’t unusual for him lately, most nights he ended up dozing off before he made it to bed, but usually, he woke up in the middle of the night, making a tired stumble up the stairs to the loft of his apartment where his bed awaited.
He frowned as he looked around the room, sunlight pouring into the living room, washing everything in a bright, golden glow. He sat up on the couch, eyes scanning the room for his phone. He reached down behind a couch cushion, pulling it out with a tired grunt as he stretched muscles that had tensed through the night. His blonde eyebrows furrowed at the time, sighing as he realized the time. He settled back down in the cushions, scrolling aimlessly on social media, trying to catch up on updates he’d missed from friends from past week.
Buck froze when he saw one of the pictures, shared last Saturday, a familiar face smiling at him from the screen. He checked who posted it –- the girlfriend of a friend of his – and his eyes widened as he saw the name of the person tagged. Confirmation that it was, in fact, you. His palms began to feel clammy as he realized you were a friend of a friend, that, if he’d gone out with his friends last weekend, he would have met you under different circumstances, shared a couple of drinks, and, maybe, invited you back to his place if you were interested. 
Now, however, things were complicated. 
Dating the parent of a student wasn’t entirely forbidden, was it?

madeline was a gift from the moment y/n took time off work because of her pregnancy. she was a gift the moment they decided on a name. she was a gift the moment she entered the world in the small hospital room.
however, y/n despised herself for thinking part of it was a curse. she loved her daughter more than anything in the world despite the short amount of weeks that she had arrived. buck had gone back to work, but y/n needed more time to recover from the birth. she got the pleasure of staying home with her baby, and she genuinely thought so.
it wasn’t until the constant screams came through madeline’s mouth that y/n started to get more and more tensed. her head was pounding, her body was sore and she just wanted to give her baby peace.
she felt like the worst mother in the world, not being able to comfort or secure her baby girl. she figured it would come naturally. in reality, it’s never been harder.
she cried when she was hungry, needed a diaper change, sleepy, or she just cried. it seemed like it was always that she just cried and screamed. it burned in y/n’s ear painfully as she listened to the squeals of her daughter. she just wanted her to be happy, and buck wasn’t there to help.
“mad, please.” y/n begged when her eyes started to water again, and the quiet squeaks left her baby’s soft cheeks. “i’m so sorry, i want to help you.”
y/n sighed as she rocked the baby in her arms, the bags under her eyes only getting darker as she stayed up with madeline. buck was exhausted when he came home, so he just went to sleep. y/n was fine with that as he did everything he could for his girls, all the time.
she’d be lying if she said she didn’t miss buck every hour.
he had some type of paternal magic to him that eased madeline. it brought her down to earth, and it gave y/n time to relax. her hormones were all over to place. every time her baby cried, it flooded her body was sadness and exhaustion. she was deeply jealous of buck secretly because of the ease he seemed to have with handling their child.
“hey, dad,” hen smiled, seeing buck walk back into the station after a few weeks with his wife and baby alone. “how’s y/n and the baby?”
“they’re good, i feel so bad leaving them though.”
“it’s hard to leave, that’s the last thing i wanted to do when we first got denny.”
“it’s just- i talk to you about anything, right?”
“of course, buck! what makes you say that, though.”
“madeline cries a lot, and i can just tell in y/n’s face that somethings wrong. i mean, i get that babies cry, but it just seems like it’s taking a huge toll on y/n. i don’t want her thinking she’s a bad mom, and if what happened to maddie happens to her,” buck thinks back to his sister, who went to hell and back trying to be a better mom for jee-yun. it breaks his heart to even consider y/n feeling left in the dark the same way. “i can’t handle that.”
“listen, buck,” hen lands a hand on his shoulder. “it’s going to be ok. you could even go for a little longer off work, you came back really soon.”
“y/n said it’d be good for us, and make me happier.”
“but is it making things easier? you both need to be doing this together. y/n’s saying a lot of stuff she doesn’t mean, and her mind is running at a 100 miles an hour.”
“i know,” buck says. “i’m gonna see her after the shift, i’ll talk to bobby. see what i can do.”
y/n continued to pace around the kitchen for hours, her lower back beginning to ache and her ears hurting from the wails of the baby in her arms. she tried everything from feeding her to rocking her in her swing, but nothing seemed to stop the cries of her daughter.
“madeline, please, i’m begging you,” y/n whines, practically on her knees for her child to stop crying.
the cries quickly started to blend in, y/n realizing that they’ll never go away. she wasn’t sick or anything, y/n repeatedly checked, but madeline still was just simply unhappy. and, y/n swore she was the problem.
buck arrived home late in the night, hours past dinner and inching closer to the bedtime of their casual family. when he opened the door, he just knew that y/n was in there with their baby, struggling to hang on and fix the problem.
“y/n?” he calls out, wandering around their home and finally landing in the nursery. the light purple walls and decorations were darkened, y/n and madeline sitting in the chair together. y/n’s shirt had been pulled down so she was able to feed madeline, but it seemed like no use. the baby in her arms was still weeping and throwing her tiny hands around. “oh, y/n.”
her blank expression told it all, along with the dark bags under her eyes. “she’s so upset, buck, i don’t know what to do.” y/n murmurs slightly over the cries of the baby.
“it’s ok, honey, we’re gonna figure it out.” y/n’s eyes just water with each tear that drops from madeline’s eyes. “no, no, it’s okay, y/n.”
“i’m sorry, i’m just so tired.”
“i know, i’m here now. we can fix this, okay?” y/n swipes under her eyes, taking in sharp breaths and trying to steady herself. “hey, honey, listen to me. you’re ok, madeline’s ok, i’m ok. we’ll be alright.
she nods as his arm touches her side, the baby wrapped in his other arm. “alright. why don’t you hold her, and i’m gonna go see if our noise machine is here yet.”
buck rustles through packages and gifts from their baby shower and tries to find anything that might help their girl sleep, and anything that will bring relief to y/n.
“i found it! it’ll be white noise, which we should’ve tried sooner. i don’t know if it’ll work, but it won’t hurt to try.”
buck allowed y/n to place the baby in her crib, letting her tiny body rest against the soft mattress. they turned the lights off and plugged in the machine, which sang out the staticky white noise that calmed their daughter.
her crying started to come to a halt after a bit of hearing the noise, her adorable little eyes shutting after a bit to finally rest. y/n could feel her whole body relax under seeing her baby finally sleep, as it had felt like days.
she felt like crying, she felt like sleeping, but she also felt like she had so much to do. the house was a mess, her baby had finally gotten to sleep, but she also wanted to sleep. it felt like one thing after another, and buck looked over again to see a y/n staring at the ground.
“what’s the matter? talk to me, y/n.”
“i’m not cut out for this,” her shaky voice comes out, his hands on the sides of her arms.
“what? of course you are!”
“i can barely manage to keep this house together, let alone keep our baby happy and i haven’t even been able to go back to work! i feel like shit and i just want to be happy with my baby, but i don’t even know if she’s happy and-“
“alright, i know,” she allows herself to fall into bucks grasp, as he worries silently for her in his mind. he can feel the exhaustion venting off her body, begging for sleep and somewhere to lay in peace and quiet. “i don’t want you worrying about anything else. let’s go to sleep, and i’m gonna help you, i promise. i’m never leaving either of your sides.”
his arms warmly grasp her body clad in a soft set. he leads her to their shared bed, pulling the blankets out and holding her as she finally gets her deserved sleep.

Today was being a good day. A few months had passed since you had been transferred to 118 and you were officially part of this crazy family. You loved them. You had a special bond with Hen. Your sister worked with Karen and since the two of you started living alone after your parents death, Karen and Hen practically adopted you. You had dinner at their house almost every night and as soon as they heard that you had become a paramedic, Hen made sure to take you to 118.
And it was the best thing that ever happened in your life. You were now part of a family that you hadn’t had for a long time. Bobby and Athena loved you and your sister as if you were their own daughters. Chim and Maddie adored you, and Eddie made you babysit when he needed to solve some things or even go to dates, not that you’re complaining, you absolutely loved being with Christopher.
And there was Buck.
Your relationship was complicated. Nobody could ever contain their surprise when they realized how similar you and Buck were, your (bad) jokes, your charm, your humor. You were practically the same person. And the sexual tension that swirled between you was frighteningly visible. The jokes about you getting a room were constant. Until you got one. And you had simply the best night of your lives together.
The problem was the after. You didn’t know how to react around each other, everything was so uncomfortable. Until one day you realized that you were developing feelings for the blue-eyed fireman. This scared you so much, that you decided to distance yourself. You were giving him the cold shoulder for a few weeks now, and it was making buck feel really uncomfortable. He didn’t like not hearing your contagious laughter, your ridiculous jokes or not being able to have some of your warm hugs. The two of you were so confused.
“you should talk to him, I can’t stand you two idiots acting all weird anymore” Hen had been trying to make you talk to him for days and today as you were on the way to a call was no different.
“oh sure- Buck, after an amazing night together I found myself completely in love with you. How does this even make sense” you mocked as you prepared to get out of the ambulance and you heard Hen’s laughter.
“first of all, too much details. Second, you could just have a mature conversation together and it would all work out.” You rolled your eyes and Hen held your arm. “if you could only see the way he looks at you.”
Hen released the grip on your arm and you ran towards Bobby who was shouting orders to the team. Today was a tough call. A residential building on fire. You prepared triage for the arriving victims while the firefighters rushed with their equipment into the burning building.
“Cap, I need some help over here. A victim on the second floor with a piece of wood stuck in his chest. I won’t be able to transport him that way.”
You could hear Eddie calling the captain over the radio and your gaze crossed with Hen’s. When she made mention of moving, you were faster.
“Cap let me help. The wood needs to be stabilized and if that doesn’t work, they'll need someone with enough medical knowledge, or that person won’t make it out of that building alive.” Your heart was beating wildly in your chest. The adrenaline was extremely high and you could feel your hands sweating.
You noticed the look Bobby gave Hen and saw when she nodded slightly. The minute you finished gearing up, you saw Buck leaving the building with another victim and when his gaze met you, the desperation was clear on his face.
“Cap no, she can’t go inside. It’s too dangerous.” He tried to persuade the captain, but it wasn’t Buck who was going to undo his decision.
“Buck, you don’t give the orders here, she’s already prepared to go in. Either you will go inside with her, or I will'
He didn’t have to say it twice and in a few seconds you were inside a burning building. Buck was directing you where it was safe to step, when to duck or sneak. Your heart was pounding, your breathing was heavy. It was so hot. As soon as you found Eddie, he gave you the same surprised look, but let you do your job. When the patient was stable, he could finally be transported without danger.
Eddie and Ravi went ahead and you stayed behind for a few seconds. Long enough so that when you went to cross the same hallway you came in, a burning beam fell in front of you. Buck pulled you to his feet just as the beam passed within millimeters of your face. You were in shock for a few seconds.
“We have to go up, it’s the safest option.”
Before you could think, Buck pulled you in and you ran up the stairs to the top floor. As you went through the door that led to the terrace you could hardly breathe because of how many floors you ran up. All you could hear was Bobby’s orders to evacuate the building. It could collapse at any second. Buck radio him your location and the captain said that they were going to position the ladder for you to get out of there. Buck ran to the edge of the building and when he made mention of pulling you in, you could see how high up you were and you got desperate.
“cmon, we have to be prepared to jump on the ladder” He tried to pull you again but you were faster and took a few steps back.
“i can’t- Buck i can’t”
“What are you talking about, we have to-“
“Buck i CAN’T” you shouted the last word and he could see the desperation in your voice. You started to hyperventilate, your head was spinning, and you fell to your knees on the floor before Buck could hold you.
“w-what is going on? are you o-okay?” He asked holding you in his arms but could see you had difficulty in drawing in air. Buck quickly took off your oxygen mask and saw the tears streaming down your face. He started to panic.
“i-i can’t, it’s too h-high” You stuttered and he finally understood. You were afraid of heights.
“hey, hey look at me” He held your face firmly and tears were streaming down your face. “We need to get out of here, the building is going to collapse any second. I need you to trust me because I don’t want to lose you today, okay? I don’t want to lose you without having a chance to tell you how I feel about you, us”
Your eyes widened and he continued talking. “I need you to take a deep breath for me okay? Do it for me please"
You nodded desperately and drew deep breaths. You could hear Bobby yelling at you to get out of there soon, the building was about to collapse. Buck stood up and held out his hand to you. “Do you trust me?”
You nodded again and Buck guided you to the ladders.
"i need you to be brave"
He never let go of your hand, and when you were halfway down, the building collapsed. Buck held you as tight as he could as everything came crashing down behind you.
As soon as the smoke cleared enough for you to finish coming down, everyone rushed to meet you.
“What happened, are you okay? Are you hurt?” Hen ran up to you checking you out and you hugged her tight, assuring her that you were fine. Either way she put you in the ambulance to check your vitals and give you oxygen for inhaling smoke.
“Don’t ever scare me like that again, and don’t ever try to be a smart-ass again. Next time you stay and I go” she complained as you parked at the station and you smiled.
“Okay okay, sorry for the scare mama Hen.”
You scoffed as you opened the ambulance to organize the supplies and noticed when a pair of blue eyes walked past you. You quickly pulled him aside and he had his eyebrows raised. “I believe you commented something that if I didn’t die today, you would have a confession to make” you noticed his cheeks turning pink and you laughed.
“thank you for helping me there. I didn’t imagine I would have a panic attack in the middle of a burning building, but my fear of heights took me to a very dark place and if you hadn’t been with me, I probably wouldn’t be-“ You had tears in your eyes and buck’s arms surrounded you.
“you don’t need to thank me, I will always have your back” You broke away from the embrace and you saw that damn smirk on his face. “I hope we can continue this conversation at my place after the shift?”
“asshole” You laughed and went back to the ambulance.
You were so screwed.

Y/N never thought she would be in a custody battle for her daughter, but she couldn’t control the way her life played out. And right now, she really wishes she could. Her ex-boyfriend had made the case that as a single-mother firefighter, her twenty-four-hour shifts aren’t the greatest for raising a child. This made Y/N nervous because it seemed the judge seriously considered that point. She returns home from court more stressed out than when she left the place and she goes to sit on the couch. She lets herself release the tears she had been holding back and she knows who she needs to call. She doesn’t want to call him because he should just be coming off a shift, but she really needs his comfort right now, so she dials the number. 
After a few rings, he picks up. “Hey, Firefly. How was court?” he asks, pulling the gym bag strap onto his shoulder. The happy tone in his voice makes her question if she wants to bring him down. She knows he would be upset if she lied, so she answers truthfully, “It was horrible and with Paige with her father this week, I really need someone here, please.” His smile contorts to a serious frown and he hurries his way to his jeep. “Of course, I’m on my way. I’ll be there in thirty, Firefly,” he promises before hanging up. Her eyebrows knit at his ETA because it should only take him ten minutes to get to her apartment from the station.

Thirty minutes later, Buck knocks on her door and she opens it to reveal a bag-heavy boyfriend. “Hello, Firefly. I’m here with ice cream and ears to listen, so lay it on me,” he orders, handing her a tub of Ben and Jerries with a spoon. He moves them to sit on the couch and she wants to ask what else is in the bags but her emotions get the better of her. She begins to cry into her ice cream and he brings her forehead to press against his chest. He runs his fingers through her hair to calm her down. “You know what Ethan said to the judge. He said I couldn’t take care of Paige properly because I was too busy working twenty-four-hour shifts. He asked how I could be there for Paige if I was off fighting fires. And I saw the look on the judge’s face, he believed Ethan,” she cries while stuffing spoonfuls of ice cream into her mouth.
Buck’s face turns to anger at what Ethan dared to imply. He brings her head up so that he can look into her eyes. He wipes the tears from her eyes, “Hey, hey. It’s going to be okay. I’ll go in as a character witness if you need to tell them how much of a kickass mom you are even with your long shifts. And I’m sure Eddie would be more than happy to go in to and prove to the judge that you could be a single parent and a firefighter,” he reassures. “Everything is going to be okay. We’ll help you figure this out.” His words are simple and make sense, but it calms her instantly. She knows he isn’t Paige’s biological father, but he would do anything to help keep her and her mother safe.

A/N: Guys I do not have a child (I do have 4 siblings, and I am the oldest), and I have never had any children. I tried to steer clear of things that might be wrong, and I did do some research, but I mostly just tried to stay in the emotional range of things. So, if I said something wrong you could tell me, if you want (because I would love to know for next time) but please don’t get mad. I really tried my best.
P.S. If you see the name Harley, it was the original name for the couple’s child, but I thought Lana would work best. So…

Buck and Y/N were so happy when they learned Y/N was pregnant. The thoughts of their little "mini-me" ambushed their minds and became the focus of the last 9 months. They did everything a new parent would do before bringing their child into the world. They experimented with names, constantly argued over what the gender was, get excited over every photo of the ultrasound, and they even hosted a baby shower, inviting everyone they loved.
But it seemed that they were so caught up in all the fun stuff about being a parent that they didn't focus on the hardships of being a parent. Lana Buckley was born naturally at about a foot and a half tall and 8 lbs big. She was born perfectly healthy, and everything had seemed fine until Buck had to go back to work.
When Buck went back to work, it seemed like the child Y/N had birthed was a completely different person. Lana refused to eat, sleep, and she cried all day and night. But as soon as Buck got her in her arms, she was the sweet and calm baby the two knew.
This brought major discomfort to Y/N. She couldn't get near her child without her screaming. It made her ask herself, "Is it me?" When Buck would come home, Lana would fall asleep peacefully in his arms, and Y/N watched in despair.
One day, Buck had gone back to work. When Y/N woke up without her boyfriend in the bed next to her, she started her day. She cleaned the house and made breakfast before Lana's cries echoed through the apartment. Y/N walked back upstairs and grabbed her child before bringing her downstairs to make her a bottle. Y/N gently placed the bottle in Lana's mouth, hoping for the infant to gulp it down like she did for Buck, but it only made the baby cry louder.
"What? You don't want the bottle?" Y/N asked her daughter. When the child didn't respond, Y/N looked down at her chest and took a deep breath.

After getting Lana to eat, Lana didn't cry as much, but she still cried. Sure, if she was hungry or needed her diaper changed, she cried, but if Y/N placed her down to go pee, she would cry. If Y/N didn't give her enough attention because she was watching tv or random videos on her phone, she would cry. And worst of all was when she cried for no reason. It seemed like everything she did, made Lana cry.
Y/N had finally gotten Lana asleep after 3 hours of nonstop crying. She carefully bent down and placed the tiny infant into her crib, trying her best not to wake her. When she stood back up, she stretched her upper body with a soft groan and made her way to her bed where she softly plopped down and released an exhausted groan. She quietly prayed for Buck to come home soon since it seemed that he was the "Lana expert". But it seemed that her prayer wasn't answered as Lana began to cry again, and no one was home to put the infant back to sleep, except for her.
Y/N felt herself tear up as she lay face up in her bed. She stared up at the ceiling, listening to the wails of her daughter. Her failure to keep her daughter quiet made her begin to doubt herself as a mother. It was sad to think that after 9 months of excitement, she was now questioning her readiness to be a mother. That and her pounding headache from the noise and slight sleep deprivation brought the girl into a slight depression.
Y/N's thoughts were soon cut off by a loud knock from the front door. Lana had yet to stop crying, which made getting up to answer the door much harder. With a groan, Y/N sat up in her shared bed and rubbed the tiredness from her eyes. She shuffled her feet, across the wooden floors, over to Lana’s crib and picked up the infant.
A sharp pain spread through her body as she held the infant in her arms. She hadn’t completely recovered from giving birth, seeing as it hadn't even been a month yet, and because of Harley, she hadn’t had time to relax, leading to headaches and random bursts of pain in her back, legs, and arms. She was tired, to say the least, and found herself ready to kill to get some shut-eye.
Another knock erupted from the door. “Okay, I’m coming!” Y/N yelled over the screams of her child. With a tired sigh, she went down the steps and over to the door. Lana still cried in her arms, so Y/N began patting her back softly as she whispered calming noises into her ear. It helped the situation a little bit, by calming down the cries, but it didn't stop them. She opened the door to find none other than her mother waiting at the door with her dark-shaded sunglasses.
Y/N hadn't talked to her mother since she announced her pregnancy. Y/N grew up wealthy due to her father's family's long history of wealth. And her mom... Let's just say that the money was the reason she stayed. So, when her mother discovered that her daughter was to inherit her father's small fortune, her mother suddenly began to care for her well-being.
Her mother chased every man in Y/N's life away due to her obnoxious judging and rude comments. Y/M/N would claim that they were only with her for the money. So, when she announced her pregnancy, you know her mother wasn't happy.
But unlike her mother, Y/N didn't care about money. She loved Evan and didn't need his money to feel that way. And when her mother began harassing Buck, she knew it was time for her to go. So, Y/N cut her mother off, and much like the cockroach that she is, she was back. Probably broke up with her wealthy boyfriend and is in need of cash.
“Mom?” Y/N asked, surprised as she bounced a screaming Lana in her arms.
Her mother snatched off her shades and said, “Yes, it is me. After you rudely blocked me from your life, I became concerned. So, here I am to check up on you.” Y/N rolled her eyes at all the bull shit from her mother’s mouth. “I would have been here sooner if I knew my precious grand-baby was here already.” Y/N scoffed as her mother pushed past her and entered their apartment.
She walked over to the kitchen island, showing off a small gift bag that hung on her arm. "I brought gifts," Y/M/N said, placing the gift bag on the marble surface.
'Gifts?' Y/N asked herself. "Hmm, maybe she doesn't need money."
“Well, mom, to be honest, I didn’t think I could take 9 months of your kind words... I’m still not ready for them. And before you come in here, flaunting your unearned money, I think you owe Evan an apology.” I said, closing the door and walking into the kitchen.
“I don’t know what you mean. If this is about the last time, I was just trying to help,” she defensively said.
Y/N rolled my eyes and glared at her mother. “I don’t think that saying that Buck would be a terrible father and then telling me to tell him the baby wasn't his was very helpful,” She retorted.
“He wasn’t prepared to be a father, and he still isn't. He's a childish buffoon, and now it seems like he’s a deadbeat.”
“Buck is not a deadbeat. You know nothing about it,” Y/N spoke, defending Buck to her mother.
“Look around, Y/N. You are holding a newborn baby who hasn't stopped crying since you open the door. I mean, come on, sweetheart. You look terrible. Have you been getting any sleep? And where is Evan?” She asked, raising her eyebrow as she gave her daughter a stern look. Y/N scoffed at her mother's words.
“Buck is a good- no- a great father who works 24-hour shifts. He’s a firefighter, ma,” Y/N said, putting emphasis on the "great" part. She began to become frustrated with her mother as her judgmental side began to express itself.
“Now, why is that man working when he has a newborn baby and a sleep-deprived girlfriend at home?”
“Because unlike you, mother, we have bills. And there is no rich second party to pay for those bills,” Y/N said.
My mother’s eyes followed me as she said, “You have your father's money. Does Buck even know about your trust fund?"
"Yes, mom," Y/N said with an aggravated sigh. "He knows, and we both agreed that we're going to use that money to better Harley's life. But we're not going to quit our jobs for it. Buck is better than that. He's not you," She finished.
"Is that any way to talk to a guest- better yet- your mother?" Y/M/N asked, offended at her daughter's words.
Y/N's brain was trying to process all of her emotions, but it all overloaded her brain. Between the constant crying from Harley and the nagging from her mother, Y/N was fed up. "Hmm, let me think..." She began to act like she was thinking before answering her mother, "You're more like an unwanted guest. A party crasher. No one asked for you to be here, and I would love it if you left."
"What is the matter with you?" Y/M/N asked, now confused by her daughter's random outburst.
“My issue? You want to know what is wrong with me, mother? You’re what’s wrong with me. You treat me like shit, yet you have the nerve to put your two cents into my life. You’ve never cared about me. You only began to care when dad died and left me his fortune. In my opinion, you’re a gold-digging, 2-timing slut who can’t stand to see anyone but herself happy.” Y/N snapped, and suddenly, everything went quiet. No nagging from her mother. No screaming from her daughter. Y/N’s breath turned heavy as she let out all the pent-up tiredness and anger she had been feeling this last week, and the tears running down her face made her feel as if she was drowning in a pool of her own misfortune.
“I just wanted what’s best for you,” her mother said, releasing a tear to roll down her face. The way her mother spoke as if she cared made Y/N feel like her mother was blind to how her actions made her daughter feel. What her words did to her. Her life was like a broken record when she was around her mother, and she couldn't have that for her daughter. She never wanted Lana to feel the way she did, growing up.
“I think you should go,” Y/N whispered, laying Lana’s head down on her shoulder. Y/N's mother just stood there, wide-eyed with her mouth hung open.
The sound of keys entering the keyhole lock sounded in the kitchen as the door opened, revealing Evan. He walked in, confused, seeing his girlfriend upset with Lana in my arms, crying, and Y/N's mother standing across from her, shocked. “What’s going on?” Buck said, dropping his ‘LAFD’ duffel bag on the ground next to the door.
Y/M/N angrily grabbed her purse before giving her daughter one last look. “Nothing. I was just leaving,” she said, storming out of the apartment and slamming the door on her way out.
Buck looked at his girlfriend, and he pointed at the closed door. Y/N rolled her eyes and waved her mother's actions off as she began to make Lana a bottle. Buck came up behind her and kissed both Y/N's and Lana's foreheads. He then held Y/N as he slowly swayed the girls in his arms.
“Hey,” Buck said, turning her head to face him. “It’s okay. You’re okay. Whatever she told you is not true,” he said, pulling me into his chest.
“I don’t think I’m fit to be a mother,” Y/N mumbled into Buck’s shirt.
Buck's face scrunched up in confusion as he simply moved the girl away from his chest. With a finger, he moved her head up to face him. Buck scoffed and shook his head as he softly whispered, “Babe, what are you talking about? You’re an amazing mother.”
Y/N shook my head ‘no.' She didn't believe Buck's words. How could she? She only felt that way because of how Lana acted when he wasn't around. He wouldn't have any idea of what she was going through.
"Of course you are. You just need to sleep. Your hormones are regulating, and I know I haven't been home, but I'm here now. Let me take some things off your hands," Buck said, taking Lana out of Y/N's arms and into his. "Go take a nap, okay? I got this," Buck said, motioning to the upstairs area with his free hand.
Y/N knew that a nap wouldn't change how she felt about the situation, but she was tired from all the crying, so she did as Buck instructed and made her way upstairs.
Buck heard every sad sigh and sniffle from the girl as she walked up the steps. It hurt him to see how much pain Y/N was going through. He had seen how she was with Danny, Chris, and Jee. And that's how Buck knew she was a fantastic caregiver. He just needed to find some way to show her that she was still a good caregiver, but he didn't know how.

While Y/N got the rest she needed, Buck was downstairs taking care of Lana. He picked up the bottle that Y/N had made earlier, and he carefully placed it into Harley's mouth. Lana began to suck on the bottle. Buck chuckled as he watched the infant chug down the milk. "Yeah, you like that, huh?" He asked. And within 30 seconds, she was already a fourth done.
"Someone was hungry," Buck said as Lana began to slow down. Buck moved away from the kitchen and made his way into the living room with Lana still in his arms, sucking on her bottle. He looked down at his daughter, who stared up at him with her beautiful Y/E/C eyes as her small arms clutched the bottle. Buck couldn't help but see Y/N whenever he looked at his child.
He smiled as he studied the child's face. He began to notice that the baby had Y/N's smile and her nose that Buck loved to boop when they played around. His smile brightened as he noticed the mixture between his and Y/N's eyes. Lana had Buck's eye shape, but she carried the color that made Buck lose himself when he looked into Y/N's.
Like always, whenever Lana finished her bottle, she struggled to keep her eyes open. Buck removed the bottle, and her mouth opened wide as she let out a yawn. "Huh, I guess mommy wasn't the only one that's sleepy," Buck said before moving himself off the couch.
He made his way upstairs, with Lana on the brink of falling asleep. He walked over to Lana's crib before turning to look at his girlfriend. He looked at her with a sad smile before turning back to place a now sleep Lana into her crib.
"There you go," Buck whispered to the sleeping child. "Was that so bad? Why can't you do this for mommy?" He asked, earning no response, only the sound of soft snores. "You know your mommy loves you. She's just having a hard time. This is new for all of us. She's just taking it harder than everyone else."
Buck looked down at his daughter with a frown. He let out a sad sigh before making his way to the shower. But before anything, he made his way to his bed, leaning over, and placing a kiss on Y/N's temple.

The 118 sat back and relaxed while waiting for Bobby's special dinner. Bobby had put together a little celebratory dinner for the newest edition in the Buckley family, to which Chimney responded with, "Where was my celebratory dinner, Cap?" Everyone laughed at Chimney, thinking he was joking, but he was still a little hurt by it.
"No one thought that Buck would ever make it this far into a relationship," Hen joked, earning an eye roll from Buck.
While Bobby cooked, Eddie, Chimney, Hen, and Buck all sat together on the upper-level couches. They sat back and relaxed as the four of them joked around with each other and shared about their time away from work like they normally did during their free time.
"I don't know," Eddie said, looking down, in thought. "Chris and I have always been able to talk to each other, but now he's secretive. He doesn't tell me anything. We don't play together as much anymore. And not to mention, he's never home. Where does he even go?"
"Um, I think him and Y/N have been hanging together. Before she had the baby, I caught the two of them just hanging out together, but if it's recent, I don't know," Buck said with a shrug of his shoulders.
"Ah," Eddie responded with a nod of his head.
"So, what's been going on with you, Buck-a-roo?" Chimney asked. Everyone turned to Buck, waiting for a response.
Buck shrugged his shoulders, not knowing what to say. Before answering Chimney, he thought for a second, "Y/N's been doubting being a mother."
Chimney looked around the firehouse. It seemed he was searching for something. "What are you doing?" Hen asked as everyone began to look up at Chimney with confused looks.
"I'm looking for a small infant that resembles a mixture of Buck and Y/N. I love your sister, Buck, but raising a baby while looking for the mother of your child can be stressful. Take it from the man who toured the country while documenting his daughter's firsts in different states," Chimney said.
"Y/N wouldn't do that," Buck paused. "She's just so stressed with everything, and it doesn't help that both Lana and her mother have been stressing her out lately. I came home the other day, and she was crying. Her mother had just left and Lana hadn't stopped crying until I got ahold of her. Not to mention, she looked like she was about to pass out. I love Y/N and I hate seeing her struggle. I know she's a good mother, but I just don't know how to show her," Buck said to his coworkers.
"Do you think Y/N and Lana have trouble bonding?" Eddie asked, leaning forward in his seat. Buck shrugged once more.
"Well, take it from me. When your child doesn't want to bond with you, it really does take a toll on you. And I understand that Chris is getting older, and that's what kids do when they get older, but Lana is dependent on you and Y/N, and for her to not want Y/N's help make be what's upsetting her," Eddie said.
"But how do I help them bond?"
"You seem to get along great with Lana. Give them some time together. Lana will one day realize that she needs her mother, and she'll allow her mother into her life," Hen said with a calming tone.
"Yeah, and if it gets too hard for her, guide her through it. You know what Lana likes. Instead of taking Lana from Y/N, suggest something that might help. But I have faith in Y/N," Chimney suggested.

Y/n walked into her apartment with Lana's car seat in one arm and groceries in the other. She struggled as she waddled to the kitchen, placing the car seat on the counter before setting the groceries on the floor. Y/N let out a sigh of relief as the release of the pressure took over her.
Lana began crying; luckily, it wasn't as loud as the other day. Y/N unbuckled Lana and pulled her up to her chest. She began to pat the baby's back as she tried to calm her down with some calming noises. But Lana didn't stop.
"Oh, no. Not again," Y/N muttered to herself, as she was now bouncing the child in her arms.
Just as Y/N was about to give up. Buck came back in from his run. "Hey, babe," Buck said, taking out his earbuds. Buck lightly jogged over to the two, kissing both of them on the head. "Why is it that whenever I come home, you're always crying?" Buck asked his daughter.
Instead of a response from Lana, Buck receives one from Y/N. "I don't know why she's crying. I fed her in the car. I changed her at the store. She's had a nap. I don't think she likes me, Buck," Y/N began to pout.
"She likes you. Crying is just a thing that babies do,” Buck said, trying to reassure his girlfriend. Y/N sighed, looking down. She didn't feel that the reason for Lana's constant crying was because it was natural. Sure, crying is natural for babies, but it felt like Lana never stops crying whenever the two are together, by themselves.
"I'm going to take a quick shower, and when I get out, we can make lunch and go for a walk or something," Buck said. He kissed Y/N's temple before he began to walk away. But he stopped when he heard Y/N begin to speak again. He turned around, looking at the girl as she spoke.
"But what am I supposed to do about her?" Y/N pouted as Lana cried against her chest.
Buck shrugged. "Try soothing her. You're a great singer. Try singing her a lullaby," Buck said as he made his way into the bathroom, shutting the door behind him.
Y/N took a deep breath, looking down at her daughter, who seemed to be in distress, with worried eyes. She decided to take Buck's advice. She had also seen other mothers do it with their children when she was out in public. It seemed to work then, so why not now? "Shh... It's all going to be okay." Y/N rocked the baby as she whispered some calming words into her daughter's ear. Her words seemed to work since the girl had stopped crying.
Lana stared up at her mother, emotionless. Y/N smiled at her daughter as a soft tear rolled down her face. She was happy. She had finally made progress with her daughter. Lana began to coo in her ear, making Y/N laugh in excitement. Y/N slowly swayed the girl around in her arms as she hummed the words to Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.
Twinkle, twinkle, little star, How I wonder what you are. Up above the world so high, Like a diamond in the sky.
Twinkle, twinkle, little star. How I wonder what you are.
Y/N repeated it a couple more times before hearing a small laugh from the child in her arms. "You like that?" Y/N asked Lana as she laughed some more. Y/N sang it once more, but this time she danced around the room with Lana in her arms.
Unknowingly, Buck had been watching the whole thing from the bathroom. He had yet to get into the shower, but when he heard the harmonious sound of his girlfriend's voice, he couldn't help but see what was happening. So, he slowly cracked the door open, careful not to interrupt, and he watched.
Every time she sang the song with a smile, Buck's smile got even wider. His advice from his friends worked. He helped Y/N out, but he didn't take over. He just hoped that it could always be like this.
When Y/N was done singing, she began tickling the child earning bursts of loud laughter. Buck took this as a good sign and returned to his shower.
When he got out, Buck left the bathroom, dressed, and ready to go on a walk. He had on a grey tank top and black workout shorts. As he left the steamy room he was met with Y/N kneeling infront of a stroller, snapping Lana into it. Both wore jean shorts but Y/N wore a teal crop top, and Lana had on a pink shirt that read 'Princess' in gold letters and matching shades.
"Are you ready to go?" Y/N asked Lana in her baby voice. Lana laughed, making Y/N clap her hands as she copied her daughter's actions.
Buck cleared his throat, getting Y/N's attention. Y/N looked over at Buck with a slight jump, scared from not noticing Buck. She shyly looked away, embarrassed.
"So, you too made up?" Buck asked with a knowing smirk.
Rolling her eyes, Y/N responded, "Yes. In fact, you were right. Babies are known for crying; all she needed was to be soothed." Buck enjoyed the beaming smile on her face as she said that.
"Huh."
"Yep, I sang a little toon, and from then on, I hadn't heard a peep. We got dressed, and now, here we are," Y/N said happily.
"Well, that's good... Shall we get going?" Buck asked, pointing over to the door. Y/N nodded in response, getting up off the ground. Buck moved to grab the stroller, and the happy couple happily made their way out of the house with their newborn for a nice afternoon walk.

Your morning was lovely so far, you woke up in a comfy bed, you had hot coffee already waiting for you when you woke up, and during your shower with Buck before you left, you used shampoo that made your hair surprisingly soft, it was a new part of your daily life. Another new part of your daily life, was Buck.
You'd known Buck almost four years, worked with him for two, and had been dating him for just over two months. You both quickly agreed to keep it under wraps for now, with you both being under the nose of your father, your fire captain, Bobby. Your dad loved you, more than words could ever begin to explain. He was however, overprotective to an overwhelming extent. You understood it, of course you did, he was always full of love and admiration for you, and always very protective, but especially since losing your younger brother and sister.
One of the many, many things you admired about Buck was his respect for your dad. You know he was just as nervous as you about upsetting your father with your new relationship. So you decided together that it would be best if nobody knew. Except Eddie, Eddie knew, but there wasn't much he didn't know about Buck so you weren't surprised.
You couldn't stop smiling when you were with Buck, even now, when you were by yourself in your car, you were smiling from the memory of Buck. You left his apartment in your car to go to the station, and he'd leave in his jeep a bit later, you guys weren't taking any chances getting caught.
  Buck's apartment was significantly closer to the station than yours was, you liked it, you got to leave a fair bit later and the drive wasn't very long. It was only a few minutes before you were parked at the station, about to head inside. You quickly peaked into your rear view mirror, making sure your hair hid the marks that you couldn't really hide with makeup.
  Usually, you and Buck made sure not to leave marks on each other, but last night you were both so hot and needy for one another, and it was a rough night, in the best way possible. You pulled your shirt sleeves further down your wrists to make sure the marks on them were hidden, then you finally went inside.
  Everyone was upstairs, your dad at the kitchenette, Eddie, Hen, Chim, and Ravi all sitting at the table, coffees scattered around.
  You sat down next to Hen, craning your neck to look back at her as she greeted you with a warm smile before her eyebrows narrowed.
  "Y/n? What's wrong with your neck?" Your dad questioned you. It took you all of two minutes to get found out. You could feel your cheeks burning, you glanced at Eddie who seemed torn between staring at you and avoiding eye contact.
  With a smile, you looked back at your dad. "It's nothing dad, no need to worry." You kept it short, sweet and simple. He left it alone, thankfully, but obviously there was some new tension, he was suspicious of you, you knew.
  A few minutes passed, some of the tense energy dissipated in the room, but you blew it, again. Your sleeve rolled up when you reached for your coffee, Hen noticed it immediately, gasping before humming, immediately understanding. Unfortunately for you, it alerted your captain, who immediately gasped himself.
  "Who's doing this? Is someone hurting you? Can-", Your father immediately began before Hen cut him off.
  "Bobby- everything's alright! She's just, having some good time with a friend of her's... a male friend." She saved you, Eddie snickered softly and you wanted to throw something at him.
  "You have a boyfriend? Why didn't you tell me?" You couldn't look him in the eyes, he looked so dejected like you knew he would.
“Well, I just wasn’t ready to talk about it y’know?” Your voice shook slightly. You felt so anxious, in this situation you were risking your relationship with your dad, as well as Buck’s relationship with him. You wondered how this would affect your relationship with Buck.
“Okay, well. You know you can talk to me. When you’re ready.” Bobby smiled, his cheek twitched which gave away how awkward he felt. Still, you were grateful that he was giving you your space, and giving you the respect you desired.
You smiled and nodded, looking down at the table and prayed that nobody could see the blush on your face or tell how anxious you were feeling. You almost spared a glance at Eddie, but you were confident that he was already looking at you holding his laughter.
Footsteps up the stairs distract you from this, you are grateful for the attention to be elsewhere, but then immediately you were anxious once you realize it was Buck.
Everything seemingly went back to normal, Buck dropped his bag on the counter, grabbed some food from the kitchen and took a seat next to Eddie, your dad handed him a cup of coffee, and he took it gratefully. However, it seemed like everything was working against you both. They fumbled along the way and hot coffee got spilled over Buck’s, arm and chest.
First, you were worried about him getting burnt, then you wanted to help him clean the mess. But instead, Buck just pulled off his shirt.
“Always be prepared, right?” Buck smirked and turned around to his bag, presumably to grab a shirt, but what he accomplished was revealing the scratch marks you’d left along his back, as well as the hickeys below his collarbone.
You felt like you were going to throw up, first you look at your dad he was just rolling his eyes, buck was a player. Of course he’d have scratch marks on his back. Then you looked at Eddie whose face was just as red as yours only from holding in laughter.
“Oh! It’s Buck! Buck’s your new boyfriend!” Ravi exclaimed, everyone’s eyes were on you, including your boyfriend and your father. He looked at Buck and then back at you.
“Please see me in my office.” You couldn’t read Bobby’s tone, he went for the stairs, you and Buck didn’t waste any time going after him.
The energy in his office was tense. He was at his desk while you and Buck sat in front of him. He was looking at you both, you couldn’t tell if he wanted one of you to speak before he did or not.
“Captain I-” Buck couldn’t get two words in before your dad cut him off.
“Why didn’t you tell me?” He asked his arms were leaning against his table, he looks like he wanted to stand up, but held back. “ why didn’t you think you could tell me?”
“Dad I’m sorry, we wanted to. We just weren’t sure if it was the right idea right now. I didn’t wanna make you upset, and I know there’s some rules about fraternizing with coworkers, we were just trying to play it safe.” Your mouth was going a mile a minute you were sure that you were visibly anxious, Buck reached over and grabbed your wrist with his hand, holding it gently gliding his thumb against your skin.
“Bobby I really care about your daughter. Honestly she she means the world to me I don’t wanna cross any boundaries but I really enjoy being with her and I would never hurt her or anything like that I promise” Buck swore, his grasp on your wrist tightening just slightly.
“Buck. I know you’re not going to hurt her. I know you’re going to treat her the way she deserves. I’m not mad at you for being in a relationship. If anything Y/n I wouldn’t want anyone less than Buck for you.” Bobby shook his head. “ I’m just sorry that you both felt like you had to hide it from me. You’re my daughter and I love you. Buck, you’re like a son to me. I love you too. If you want my approval you have it, please just know you don’t have to hide that from me.”
“Thank you, dad, really. I’m sorry we didn’t come to you before we were just- I don’t know, nervous.” You smiled softly at your dad, leaning your head towards Buck slightly.
It was comfortable in the room for a moment, your dad looked at Buck again. “Buckley if you ever leave a mark on my daughter again I will knock your teeth out.”
“Yes sir.” Buck’s reply was immediate, and you smiled slightly, knowing there would definitely be more marks in the future.

Honestly, it was a stupid petty fight that had Y/N running away from her house and to Atheha and Bobby. Some very hurtful things were said on both ends and Eddie was there trying to defuse the situation. Neither of the fathers thought their 10-year-old daughter would run away from home at 10 PM on a Friday.
Everyone was stressed for many different reasons. Chris wasn't but he's always in good spirits. Eddie was too but he tried to keep his cool for his kid's sake. Buck and Y/N are very similar in many ways than one can think even if they aren't biologically related. They got stressed easily and were the ones to show it more. Buck and Y/N both had a hot-tempered attitude. They also shared the same expressions and handled certain ways the same. Even though she was like Buck she was a lot like Eddie too. Eddie and his daughter could think quickly on their feet and they handled certain situations the same too but if it got too much then forget about it.
So when the fight broke out she tried to stay calm she really did but her temper was quickly rising. The fight was about how she wanted to go out to a friend's house, who was having a party. Both parents had said no but she really wanted to go so she kept pushing until it got too much and Buck exploded in anger and so did she.

When they went and picked her up from school Friday afternoon is when the asking to go started. Both Eddie and Buck were already stressed from the all-day stressful calls they were getting. Chris had already been picked up from school by Carla and now they were picking her up. Eddie parked the truck as Buck got out and went into the school to get her.
He walked in and to the desk and the receptionist was already looking up and calling on her phone. They talked small talk and then she walked in.
"Hi, Daddy." She said and hugged him and he hugged her back embracing the warm and calming feeling she lets off.
"Hey, Baby. How was your day?" He asked as he let her go and shouldered her backpack.
"It was good! Jordan has a birthday party this weekend and I was wondering if I could go." She asked hopefully usually they let her go to things like that but they weren't feeling particularly well at the moment.
"I don't know, Baby. We'll have to see what your father says. I think we already made plans." He told her and watched her face fall.
"Oh ok." She said and they walked in silence to the black truck that is her other dad's. When they got there Buck helped her into the truck and buckled her up. Eddie looked at her face and noticed she wasn't her usually smiling self.
"Hey, Princesa. How was school?" He asked and she just shrugged her shoulders as Buck got into the passenger side of the truck. Eddie frowned "Everything ok?" He asked both of them. She was silent.
"Jordan is having a birthday this weekend at her house and I wanted to go." She said quietly looking down. Eddie sighed and looked at Buck and they seemed to have silent conversation with each other.
"Princesa, we have some things planned this weekend. You're not going to be able to go." He said calmly and she nodded and looked down. The question was dropped as they rode home. She knew not to test them but she really wanted to go but she dropped it for now and decided to ask again later, maybe they would forget that she asked beforehand.
When they got home everyone got out of the truck and walked inside. Chris greeted them happily and they all smiled. He was such a happy kid. Y/N sat at the table and started her homework, which wasn't much. Buck and Eddie were working on dinner since they got home around 5 PM and they usually eat supper at 6:30 PM.
"Papa, Daddy?" She asked addressing both of them.
"Yes, Princesa?" Eddie asked
"Yes, Baby?" Buck asked at the same time.
"Can I go to Jordan's birthday party?" She asked them and looked up and they sighed.
"We've already been over this, Princesa. We already have some plans for the weekend." Eddie said and she pouted but wasn't about to give up.
"Please?" She asked giving them puppy dog eyes. Buck's temper was slowly rising they'd already said no but her stubbornness, which she got from Buck, wasn't going to let her stop.
"No. End of discussion. Now clear the table dinner is ready." Buck said sternly. She groaned but did what she was told. She wasn't happy about it.
Dinner was tense and Chris could feel it and tried to make it less tense and it helped but it wasn't for very long. "Hey, Dad. What are we doing this weekend?" Chris asked.
"We have a firehouse event we have to attend to." Eddie said and that made Y/N frown.
"Do I have to go to it?" She asked really wanting to go to Jordan's birthday party.
"Yes, you have to. We already said everyone was going to be there." Buck said temper running high as they all finished their food and started collecting plates. It was dark now and had started raining. She followed them to the kitchen carrying her plate and sat it on the counter.
"But daddy." She began pouting and Buck looked at her.
"No means no Y/N. You're not going and that's final." He said turning around. Eddie was getting mad that she kept asking but why have both parents fight? It would just cause more tension.
"You always say no though." She said temper rising.
"You're not going and that is final." Buck said turning around to look at her.
"Please." She tried pleading one more time and saw the look on his face. "You never let me have fun." She said crossing her arms.
"We're trying to keep you safe. We've seen how crazy parties get." Buck said while wiping down dishes and putting them in the drying rack.
"So? It won't happen there." She said starting to get sassy.
"You don't know that. You're not going and that is final. Now get ready for bed." Buck said.
"Papa." She said whining. He knew he was going to get roped into this he calmly turned to her.
"Princesa, you can't go. We've already made plans for the firehouse event." Eddie said
"It's only one event I'll be missing. It's not a big deal." She said angrily.
"Yes it is a big. We told you no and that's final. Now stop asking." Buck butted in and that's when her temper exploded.
"I hate you." She said turning to walk away.
"Yea well, I hate you right now too." Buck said and she stopped and tears filled her eyes.
"Buck." Eddie said not mad anymore at her but at him. She turned to them and said something that would crush any parents heart.
"I wish I wasn't born. I wish you would've just let me die in that car accident." She said. They never kept her from the truth when she asked why she didn't have a mother.
"Yea? So do I. Right now you're acting like a little spoiled brat." Buck said out of anger. Eddie looked at him shocked and then anger.
"Evan Buckley." He said and then turned towards their daughter.
"Princesa, he didn't mean it." Walking over to her but she was already out the door and taking off running. He turned towards Buck. "If she gets hurt and worse. It's on you." He said Buck had a look of regret on his face.
"I didn't mean it but she was acting out." Buck said now starting to worry.
"I get that but so were you. I get that we are stressed but we never ever take it out on our children. We made that promise." Eddie said angrily.
"I know ok. I know. I didn't mean it. It was stupid. I wish I could take it back." Buck said just as Chris walked into the room.
"What's going on?" He asked
"Y/N and Buck had a fight and she took off. Are you ok here alone while we go look for her?" Eddie said and Chris nodded.
"Yes. Bring my sister back home." He said and Eddie nodded and then looked at Buck.
"Are you coming?" He said a little irritated at him.
"Yes of course. Why wouldn't I?" He asked.
"I don't know Buck maybe because you did say you wished she wasn't born or that wished that we didn't save her. Start calling her friends and we'll go to some of their houses." Eddie said and Buck nodded doing just that he didn't say a word. The words he said hit him like a ton of bricks.

When Y/N had run out of the house she didn't think about grabbing a rain jacket. She just took off. She had turned off her tracker. While she was running she had slipped on the wet asphalt and twisted her ankle when she slammed into a stop sign cutting her.
When she was far enough away from the house she called her Aunt Maddie and Uncle Chimney. She was hoping they were home.
"Hello?" Maddie asked tiredly
"Aunt Maddie." Y/N began crying
"Honey, are you ok?" She asked
"I'm sorry for bothering you. It sounds like I woke you up." Y/N said, "I'll let you go." She finished.
"No Honey. Where are you it sounds like it's raining." She said
"Dad and I fought. I ran away. Are you home?" She asked and she heard her sigh.
"No, Honey. We're not. We took a little trip out of the city." Maddie said.
"Are you ok?" Chimney asked the youngest Buckley-Diaz.
"No. I'm sorry for bothering you. I'll leave you guys alone. I love you." Y/N said sniffling.
"Y/N/N wait." Maddie began but Y/N had already ended the call.
She started to limp off in the direction of another house she knew the way to very well. She went off onto a beaten path and as she was climbing a hill she slipped and got mud all over her while twisting her knee in the process and she just started crying harder.

Buck and Eddie had stopped at Y/N's best friend's, Liz, house. They parked the car and went up to the door and knocked. They waited for a second until it opened.
"Hey Eddie, Buck. What can I do for you?" Mrs. Waters asked.
"Y/N and I had a fight and ran out. We were wondering if she came here." Buck said
"No. I'm sorry. If she does turn up I'll give you a call." She said and they nodded.
"Thank you. We appreciate it. Sorry to bother you." Eddie said
"It's not a problem. Have a goodnight boys." She said
"You too." Buck said and they walked off and got into the truck and headed off. Eddie pulled off the side of the road and they began talking.
"Ok so she's not there or any other of her friends. Maddie is out of town. Do you think she would go to Hen?" Buck asked
"It's worth a shot." Eddie said and so they took towards her place. They drove to Hen's place and parked in her driveway. They walked up and knocked on the door. It didn't take long for her and Karen to answer the door.
"Eddie? Buck? Everything ok?" She asked
"No Buck and and Y/N fought some words were said and she took off. We've been trying to find her. Thought she would come here." Eddie said.
"Why don't you come in and we'll figure this out together." Karen said worried for the couple and their daughter. They walked in and sat down on the couch and they began trying to figure it out.
As they sat down Buck had gotten a call from his very angry sister. He got up and walked into the kitchen away from the others for privacy.
"Evan Buckley, explain to me why my niece calls me crying and what sounded like she was standing out in the pouring rain. You know how she deals with stress. She's too much like you." Maddie said any tiredness gone from her voice.
"Maddie it was a big misunderstanding. We had a fight and somethings were said." Buck said trying to justify himself.
"Why was so in the pouring rain?" She asked at the same time as Chimney asked the same question.
"She ran away and we can't find her." Buck said
"You better find her." She said and hung up.
Buck walked back into the living room "Maddie and Chim just chewed me out."

When Y/N reached Athena and Bobby's she soaking wet and shivering. She was also limping and bleeding. She had year tracks going down her face but you could hardly tell with the rain. She limped her way to the door and rang the doorbell. She waited and waited she turned around and was about to limp her way back home when the door opened.
"Y/N?" Bobby said and she turned around but almost fell. He was in his sleepwear.
"I didn't know where else to go." She said and started sobbing. He looked her over and noticed some bleeding from under her right eyebrow and running into her eye.
"Come on get out of the rain." He said and helped her into the house and down the stairs. About that time Athena had walked in.
"Bobby? What's going on?" She asked but then saw him with her. "What happened, Sweetheart?" She asked coming over to the young girl. They guided her to the couch and sat her down.
"Dad and I fought he said that he wished that you guys never saved me. I also said that I wished I was never born." She said and they looked at her.
"What brought this on?" Bobby asked
"I wanted to go to Jordan's birthday party this weekend but Papa and Dad said that we already had plans. Plans for an event for the firehouse. They said I wasn't allowed to miss it." She said taking a breath "So I ran away. I tried to call Maddie and Chim but they went out of the city. I slipped on the asphalt and hit a stop sign and twisted my ankle. Then as I was climbing a hill I slipped and fell in the mud and hurt my knee." She finished with fresh tears rolling down her cheeks.
"I take they don't know you're here." Bobby said and she shook her head.
"No." She said quietly
"I'm gonna go get you some dry clothes and then we're going to clean you up and check out that ankle and knee." Athena said and went into May's room and got some clothes she left that she didn't want or fit into then came out. Athena helped her change and then went out to where Bobby had the first aid kit.
Bobby started dabbing at the cut and she flinched but didn't make a sound. Athena took your clothes and threw them in the washer. "You know we're going to have to call them right?" He asked her and she nodded. "Well, good news is that you don't need stitches." He said and then went on examining her knee and ankle, which were both swollen. "Looks to be just twisted and sprained." He said and she nodded and yawned.
"Why don't you lay down on the couch and we'll call your parents." Athena said and Y/N nodded and laid down. Bobby threw a blanket over her. They walked into the kitchen and talked in a hushed whisper. Bobby got his phone out and called Eddie.

Eddie and Buck were still at Hen's and Karen's. "We tried her friends. We went to her favorite places. We can't find her anywhere." Eddie said.
"She couldn't have gone far. Do you have the find my family app?" Karen asked and they nodded.
"But she turned it off." Buck said and before anyone could speak Eddie's phone rang.
"Hey its Bobby." He said confused
"Hey, Bobby. What's up" Eddie asked
"Y/N showed up at our place soaking wet, shivering, covered in mud, sprained ankle, a twisted knee, and cut above her right eyebrow. She said that her and Buck got into a fight." He said and Eddie sighed and put him on speaker.
"She's telling the truth. She ran away when some hurtful things were said on both sides.
"She's sleeping on the couch as we speak. Athena is with her." Bobby said.
"Thank you, Bobby. We're on our way." Eddie said
"Be safe, it is still pouring down rain." Bobby said
"We will be." Eddie said and they hung up.
Buck and Eddie bid Karen and Hen a goodbye and they gave each other a hug and they were on their way to get their little girl.

When Eddie and Buck got to Bobby's and Athena's it had stopped raining. Eddie parked the truck and they walked to the door at 10 PM. Buck knocked on the door and Bobby answered the door. He let them in and took them to Y/N. Their hearts broke at the sight of their little girl, she was curled up and looking so small.
"She's ok. She doesn't need stitches. Her clothes are in the washer. I'll bring them to our next shift." Bobby said and they nodded and he walked away letting them deal with their little girl. Athena got up and joined her husband. They bent down in front of her and Eddie ran a hand on top of her head. She slowly stirred and opened her eyes.
"Papa?" She asked and he nodded and then she looked over at Buck and tensed and her eyes went wide and she sat up.
"Hey it's ok." Buck said and reached out to put a hair behind her ears. "Y/N, I'm sorry I said those things. I didn't mean it. You're one of the best things to happen to me. I love you with all of my heart. I'm sorry. Please forgive me." Buck said and she relaxed and looked at him.
"I'm sorry too for running out and saying I hate you." She said in a small voice.
"Are you ready to go home?" Eddie asked and she nodded.
"Yea." She said with a yawn. Bobby and Athena walked in.
"Thank you guys." Buck said standing up at the same time as Eddie.
"Anytime guys. Y/N get better soon." Bobby said and she nodded and tried to stand up but winced.
"I'll carry you." Buck said and picked her up and she snuggled into him. Eddie opened the door for them all and they walked out. Eddie opened the passenger side of the truck and Buck gently put her in.
Eddie and Buck got in and started their drive back home. While at a stoplight they looked back and saw Y/N asleep. They smiled at their little girl. Yes hurtful things were said and she may have ran away but she ran to people she trusted. Running away was not the smartest but it was in the heat of the moement.
They got home and but got her out of the truck once it was parked and they headed inside Chris was already in bed and asleep. "I'll go tuck her in." Buck said and Eddie nodded. When he didn't come back after 5 minutes he went and looked in on them. What he found was Buck cuddling their little girl fast asleep and her gripping his shirt like her life depended on it. He walked in and planted a kiss on both of their foreheads
"Goodnight you two. I love you both." He said and covered them up and left the room. He went to check on Chris who woke up when his door cracked.
"Did you find Y/N?" He asked sleepily and Eddie nodded smiling. He walked into the room and sat on his bed.
"We did. She and Buck are fast asleep in her room. Go back to sleep bud." Eddie said to him and he nodded and rolled over and went to sleep. He kissed his forehead and left the room.
Eddie got ready for bed. He didn't like sleeping alone but knew that Buck needed this and let them be. They were both stressed and it could've been handled better but everyone was safe. Their safety is all that he cared about as he rolled over and went to sleep. Their family was complete again and nothing was going to change that.

A Drunk Mind Speaks A Sober Heart Part 2
Summary: Reader and Buck wake up hungover but manage to make it family breakfast with the team and their families. The videos from the previous night are exchanged between the two and everyone is excited that they’re finally together

(Y/N)’s POV 
The sun coming through the curtains wakes me from my slumber but upon opening my eyes, I immediately shut them again because the sun is so much brighter than it should be. I roll over to find a bottle of water, some Asprin, a note, and my phone on charge. I don’t half remember last night to be honest. I know I got shitfaced in Maddie’s livingroom and look around me to find myself in one of her spare bedrooms. I reach over and pick up the note and read it, “Take two and chug. Don’t forget about breakfast at Athena and Bobby’s -Maddie” I do as directed and then check my phone to find a text from Hen that reads, “’A drunk mind speaks a sober heart.’ -Jean-Jaques Rousseau” there’s a video attatched so I make sure my volume is low so that it doesn’t burst my eardrums before opening it. I watch myself confess my feelings for Buck and flop back over to my back groaning once it’s over. I take a few deep breaths before getting up from the bed. 
I mentally thank Maddie upon finding my duffle bag and shoes at the foot of the bed. I struggle out of last night’s clothes and into clean ones, yank on my shoes, and venture downstairs in hopes of finding my keys and slipping out without waking Maddie, Chim, or the kiddo. Unfortunately, no such luck as they have already beat me out of bed. I tip toe around the corner into the kitchen only to find Maddie standing at the counter sipping coffee as she lovingly watches Chim play with Jee-Yun. I sigh in defeat as she notices my entry and picks up my keys from the counter beside her, “How’re you feeling?” she asks as she tosses them to me.  
“Like I got ran over by a train,” I laugh, “And embarassed,” I blush. 
She smiles, knowing exactly what I’m referring to, “It’s alright. We all knew, we were just waiting for you to figure it out,” she winks. 
It’s now that oblivious Chimney joins us with his adorable daughter perched on his hip, “Are we ready to head out?” Maddie and I nod so the four of us depart for the Grant-Nash residence. The entire way there I am contemplating just going home to avoid knowing and teasing looks from Maddie, Athena, Hen, and Karen all day but force myself to stay en-route because this has become a long standing tradition. One Sunday a month, the whole fireteam, their significant others, and their children gather at Bobby and Athena’s for a good old fashioned family breakfast. I ponder if I’ll even survive this one as I pull into the drive way and put my car in park but am quickly dragged out of my safety zone by Athena’s waving hand at the front door. 
Buck’s POV 
I shouldn’t have drank so much last night, I realize as I roll off the couch with a loud thump. From the kitchen, Christopher and Eddie giggle before Eddie cheers, “Good morning, Sleeping Beauty. Better get your ass up and get some Asprin in you and clean clothes on or we’re gonna be late to family breakfast.” I groan but know he’s right. I swipe my phone off the coffee table before making my way to the kitchen for Asprin and then to the bathroom to change clothes. I have a text from Eddie that reads, “Maybe just show her this since you can’t ever figure out how to tell her yourself,” attatched is a video so I press play to listen as I change clothes. By the time the video ends, I have my hands pressed to the counter and am staring down at my phone in shock. Maybe Eddie’s right. Apparently drunk me has a talent for explaining how I feel that sober me does not. 
I grabbed my phone and exit the bathroom to make my out of Eddie’s place, declaring to him on my way out, “Don’t say a word,” feeling his amused look on the back of my neck I feel a blush creep to my cheeks, “Stop it. Don’t give me that look.” Soon, the three of us arrive at the Grant-Nash household and I have to elbow Eddie in the ribs when we see (Y/N) getting out of her car due to the grin on his face. 
Third Person POV 
The breakfast gets along almost as it always does. Lots of chit chats and laughter. The ladies send teasing looks toward (Y/N) when Eddie asks how their night went but (Y/N) ignores them and they simply say it was quite interesting and elaborate no further. Eddie saw the looks though and makes a mental note to ask Hen or Maddie about it later. Several times Eddie caught Buck glancing or staring at (Y/N) and shot him a teasing grin over Christopher’s head. Buck brushed it off with a glare everytime.  
As mentioned, things aren’t quite the same as usual. As is normal, Bobby sits at the head of the table with Athena to his right followed by Harry, May, Karen, Hen, and (Y/N). To his left is Jee-Yun in a high chair followed by Chimney, Maddie, Eddie, Christopher, and Buck. Usually, Buck would playfully kick at (Y/N) under the table and she’d snatch food off his plate, mostly his fruit. They would get carried away in their own conversation and their fits of giggles and laughter would ring out over the other conversations happening but when anyone would look their way to question what is so funny they’d be too distracted to give an answer. Everyone always got a kick out of their playful behavior. However, today there was no playful kicks under the table or food snatched off of plates. The two couldn’t even look each other in the eye, too embarassed by their confessions last night that the other had no idea about. Although they did sneak glances toward each other when the other wasn’t looking. When Christopher has Buck’s attention or Buck is arguing about how a call went with Chimney over three heads, (Y/N) watches him out of the corner of her eye but pretends to be focused on something else or collects a bite of food if he happens to look anywhere near her direction. When (Y/N) is watching Jee-Yun giggle as her father makes airplane noises circling a small bite of pancake toward her mouth or listening in on the conversation between Hen, Karen, and May, Buck admires her subtly over the rim of his coffee cup but as soon as (Y/N) returns her gaze to her plate or someone near him he too distracts himself with something else. This odd behavior did not go unnoticed by the other adults at the table or even Christopher who would normally be too busy giggling at the pair’s antics to eat.  
The young boy also happens to be the first and only one to call the two out on the peculuarity of it all, “Buck? Why are you not kicking (Y/N)? And you haven’t stole any of his fruit,” he adds looking to her.  
The adults all grin as Harry also chimes in, “Yeah you guys have been quiet.” 
May nudges her brother and shakes her head as their mother speaks up, “I think they just don’t feel too good today. Maybe they didn’t get enough sleep.” Christopher and Harry exchange a look that says they don’t believe that one bit but a different conversation is picked up by the adults to shift the attention off of the two.  
(Y/N) risks a glance at Buck, wondering what his reaction is but he had also taken the same risk. The two lock eyes but quickly look away. In attempts to escape the situation and catch the breath that had been stolen by looking into his bright blue eyes (Y/N) excuses herself from the table saying her still bruised ribs are bothering her and she needs to stretch.  
Once safely in a bathroom, (Y/N) stares at herself in the mirror trying to decipher what it was that she saw in his eyes. Buck always has shown exactly how he feels through his eyes but today she can’t quite make out what exactly that is. She sighs heavily just as someone knocks on the door. 
Out in the dinning room, Buck has excused himself as well giving no particular reason but the adults need not ask because they know exactly why. As soon as Buck is out of earshot, Eddie leans forward to look at all the ladies in turn before asking, “What exactly happened last night?” The women all look at each other seeming to silently debate about spilling the beans.  
Chimney and Bobby look at each other as well before Bobby adds, “I would like to know as well but you seem to have something to share too.” 
May giggles, “It’s like a Mexican stand off of exciting stories.” 
Chimney retrives a coin from his pocket, “Heads, Eddie is up first. Tails, one of you ladies are gonna have to spill.” 
Everyone nods as Maddie looks down the hall, “Might want to be quick and quiet about it.” 
Chimney flips the coin and it comes up tails so Maddie wiggles in her seat and props her elbows up on the table, placing her fingers together. She takes a dramatic pause despite her warning to hurry up before explaining, “(Y/N) got plastered last night and we now have video proof as confirmation that she has feelings for Buck.” 
“I knew it!,” May whispers excitedly. 
Eddie lightly smacks Maddie on the arm, “You’re telling me they both confessed on the same night to separate people but have no idea?” Everyone looks to Eddie in shock, “Yeah, he had a few drinks last night and apparently drunk Buck has an easier time with putting his feelings into words. I got it on video” 
Hen laughs, “A drunk mind speaks a sober heart.” 
Everyone excitedly yet still remaining quiet cheers before Bobby settles them down, “Those videos stay with those who took them and we don’t mention this around them. Understood?” Everyone nods except Eddie and Hen who give Bobby a guilty look. He responds to their looks with one of suspicion, “What did you two do?” In unison the two videographers confess that they sent their video to the corresponding subject. 
Hen adds, “I figured if she had the video she could just show it to him when she’s ready.”  
Eddie nods in agreement, “I literally told him it might be an easier way of telling her if he can’t find the words while sober.” 
Bobby grins and shakes his head as Athena chimes in, “We’ll see. For now, let’s talk about something else so they’re not suspicious of us when they come back.” 
Back in the bathroom, (Y/N) responds to the knock at the door, “Who is it?” 
“It- it’s me,” comes Buck’s voice from the other side. 
(Y/N) takes a deep breath before unlocking and opening the door to let him in. She hops up to take a seat on the counter as he enters and closes the door behind him. They both stare at their hands, nervously fidgeting with anything they can until they both speak at the same time, “I’m sorry, I’m just-” They stop, staring at each other with red all over their cheeks. 
Normally, Buck would be a gentleman and let her go first but he just had to get this off his chest before he chickened out, “So, I got drunk last night. You know that saying drunk words are sober thoughts?” (Y/N) nods thinking back to the text Hen had sent with the video just this morning. Buck continues, “Well, Eddie caught my drunk words on video last night and... well,” he pulls his phone out of his pocket, unlocks it and navigates to the video Eddie had sent before handing it to her, “Just watch it. Sober me 100% agrees with every word.” He looks at her with such scencerity on his face that it makes her heart skip a beat. The two sit in silence as she watches the video. Buck shifts nervously on his feet, scanning her face for her reaction and she smiles. His heart soars with hope that she feels the same way.  
When the video ends, she hands his phone back to him before retrieving her own from her back pocket, unlocking it, navigating to her own video and then, “Drunk words are indeed sober thoughts and drunk me is pretty damn good at sharing things that sober me can’t. I too agree with every word she said,” she says, handing her phone to him. He watches with a massive grin on his face as one plasters itself on her’s as well. There’s not an ounce of fear or nervousness left in her after having seen his video. She thinks to herself that if she has the honor of marrying the man in front of her one day, it’s only right that Eddie be his Best Man and Hen be her Maid of Honor. 
Once the video ends, Buck places her phone on the counter beside her and leans in close with a grin still on his face only now it has a slight hint of cockiness to it, “I guess the only thing to do now is ask you to be my girlfriend. So will you?” 
As he hooks his finger under her chin and lifts it to align their lips, the distance between them shrinks even more. He can feel her breath on his lips when she affirms, “Obviously,” so he glances down at her lips before looking into her eyes. She inches closer, encouraging him to close the distance, and he does. They share the same thought as the slow, love filled kiss takes place and that is, “I love you.” When they begrudingly pull apart, and make eye contact, there’s no need to voice the thought as for one, their drunk selves already did but also, it’s seen in their eyes. 
Buck pulls even further away before placing his hands on her hips. He leaves them there for a moment, observing her reaction and somewhat looking for a nudge to continue his movements. She tilts her head, “What?” 
He says nothing at first, simply sliding his hands from her hips to place them on either side of the mirror on the wall behind her caging her in. He leans in close and brushes his nose against her’s, making her eyes flutter shut. When she opens them he’s just barely retreated, tilted his head, and is grinning from ear to ear. Feigning forgetfulness he asks, “What was that you said you wanted to do? It was something to do with my arms. Maybe you could remind me?” 
A mishevious grin with a hint of shyness to it replaces the look of curiosity on her face but is quickly replaced with a false sense of innocence as she lays her head over on his right arm. She stays there for a moment reveling in the eye contact between his now sultry eyes and her own wide eyed innocent ones before turning her head slightly to nuzzle her mouth and nose against his arm. A breath catches in Buck’s throat as she suddenly opens her mouth to lay her tongue against his bicep, slowly dragging it up before recoiling it back behind her teeth that she uses to nip softly against the skin covering the toned muscle. The sound that left his throat is one that she will remember for years to come and want to elicit from him again many times over. However, she simply lays her head back against his arm with a teasing look on her face, “We should get back out there before they come looking and find us in a scandalous situation.” 
Buck huffs, knowing she’s right and stands up straight removing his hands from the wall to help her down from the counter. (Y/N) quite likes it when he lifts her by her waist to place her feet on the ground and has to stop herself from wondering what it would be like for him to toss her into bed as he takes her hand in his. He doesn’t exit the bathroom just yet but instead tugs her close, hooks his finger under her chin once more to whisper against her lips, “Fine, but you’re sitting in my lap to cover the situation you’ve caused in my pants.” She giggles and nods before opening the door herself and tugging him along behind her.  
All eyes are on the two love birds as they reenter the dining room causing blushes to creep onto both of their faces and Buck to discretely scoot just a little closer behind her in hopes of hiding the afforemention situation better. He takes his seat, promptly pulling her into his lap which makes everyone whoop and holler in excitement. Eddie passes Maddie a twenty dollar bill which provokes a confused look from both (Y/N) and Buck.  
Maddie grins triumphantly, “I bet that the videos would be exchanged today. Eddie didn’t think you guys had it in you.”  
Eddie rolls his eyes as Athena calms everyone down, “You two didn’t... in the bathroom did you,” raising her eyebrows to insinuate naughtier acts than just exchanging videos. (Y/N) and Buck shake their head no immediately to which Athena replies, “Good.” 
The conversation soon returns to things other than the new couple at the end of the table. (Y/N) has an arm around Buck’s shoulders playing with his hair while his arm is wrapped firmly around her waist. His other hand is placed on her knee, even though he wants it to be higher, and he leans in to whisper in her ear, “You’ll have something in you if we can ever sneak away. I just didn’t bend you over in there out of respect.” (Y/N) slaps his chest with her free hand but Buck simply returns his attention to the group around the table and includes himself in the conversation. Under her, (Y/N) can still feel the situation and knows he’s not joking. She has to fight to keep from imaging what all they could get up to today.

A sigh burned past (Y/n)'s lips and she closed her eyes, tilting her head back as if looking towards the sky to give her strength.
Her right hand moved to cradle the back of Evie's head while she tilted her chest back so the toddler was leaning into her. She bent her knees and started swaying her little girl from left to right, moving her up and down to calm her down and try to cease her cries.
It didn't work.
The toddler sniffed before she let out another wail into (Y/n)'s neck. Her hands batted up and down against (Y/n)'s chest and shoulder and she started swaying her legs as she howled. Bubbling, sniffling cries wailed past Evie's lips as tears drenched her face and her skin started to burn from how overworked she was making herself.
"Baby, shh come on it's okay-"
"I want daddy!" Her little voice turned into a screech and she sniffed at least five times to draw in a deep enough breath so that she could let out another cry.
"I know, I know baby and he won't be long, the boys are coming." (Y/n) leaned her cheek on top of Evie's head and continued to sway, trying to shush her.
She had moved to stand near the drinks bar to be hidden in the shade and be out the way of the other people. The last thing everyone nearby needed was to listen to Evie screaming her little head off.
The two year old wasn't feeling well today.
This was her first time abroad. They were used to taking Chris away on holiday at least once a year but the last two years hadn't gone to plan. (Y/n) had been pregnant on their last holiday and she hadn't felt very well. And they skipped going abroad last year because Evie was only a baby and it would have been too much for them all.
Now she was two, they thought she would enjoy going abroad. She hadn't liked the airport, at all. And the plane ride had been long and tiring for her, but she had done well. But their two week holiday had been a right mixture since Evie had gotten sick.
The temperature change didn't sit well with her, the newfound heat had made her sick for the first few days. Then when they thought she was getting better, they went out for a walk round and the heat made her pass out. To top it off, for the last two days Evie had been sick and when she was sick, she wanted to be held, cuddled and carried by either one of her dads.
It was their last day today because tomorrow dinnertime they would be heading back to the airport to head home. But their holiday had been fun and exciting despite Evie not feeling her best, and it had been great for them to spend two full weeks together as a family.
"Shh, baby, okay." (Y/n) murmured into the top of her head as she continued to sway from side to side.
With it being their last day and a small amusement park being over the road, Eddie and Evan had taken Chris to go on the rides. It wasn't (Y/n)'s sort of thing and Evie wasn't well enough to go on the baby rides or to watch the boys like she normally would. She would of been fine wandering round with some sweets and a drink, but not today when she was feeling unwell.
So they decided the boys would go on the amusements and (Y/n) had taken Evie in the soft play area in their hotel and then to the toy shop.
"Here they are, look. Who's that?"
Evie lifted her head from (Y/n)'s shoulder, still sniffing and whimpering while she looked around for her dads and her brother.
The boys had got back from the amusements twenty minutes ago and they had gone to get changed into their swim gear since they all wanted one more dip in the hotel pool. The pool was massive. And the cold water would do Evie the world of good, it had made her feel better every other day they spent in here.
"Found them!" Chris pulled on Evan's hand and pointed ahead to where (Y/n) was stood cradling Evie, leaning back against the bar.
Chris was wearing his aqua blue swim trunks with sharks dotted all over them and he had already taken his glasses off and put them in the bag Eddie was carrying, full of their change of clothes and towels. He practically dragged Evan over until they got towards (Y/n).
A tender smile flooded (Y/n)'s face as she looked over her boys. Chris was jumping up and down, desperate to get in the pool already. It had been hard to get the kids out the pool these past two weeks whenever they came down here.
The outdoor pool was spaceous. There was a shallow end with fountains and a little lookout tower for little kids. There was a deeper end for adults, at the far back there were a few slides. Two hot tubs were at the back and all around the pool was a rapid river with currents for people to cruise along in with floats and rubber rings.
(Y/n) dragged her eyes across Evan and Eddie who looked like the sun and the moon. Evan was wearing white and blue striped swim trunks, showing off all the tattoos glittered around his arms and his torso. Including (Y/n)'s favourite which was Evangeline in large italics beneath his collar bone with Evie's footprints stamped beneath her name in purple ink from when she was born.
And she noticed Evan was wearing his knee brace. The amount of walking, swimming and running they had done on this holiday was enough to aggravate his scarred leg so he had brought his brace along. It was waterproof and the tight tension stopped him from limping.
Then there was Eddie. Grey cargo-like trunks with large baggy pockets and blinding white draw strings through the middle. His hair was spiked up, his black sunglasses were perched on his nose and (Y/n)'s eyes found her favourite tattoo on Eddie's skin.
He had Chris and Evie's date of births in a scroll on the lower left side of his abs.
"Looking good," Evan murmured while he let his eyes wander all over (Y/n)'s frame.
It didn't matter how many times he and Eddie had seen her in her swimsuit this week. It was their new favourite. A low cut, strapless strawberry red suit with little white hearts dotted all over.
(Y/n) tilted her head back so she could peck Evan's lips before she took a step closer to Eddie with her arms outstretched. "Thank God. She won't settle for me, she's been screaming for you."
"For me? Aw, baby girl."
They reached out and did a swap. (Y/n) took the bag from Eddie's shoulder while he carefully scooped Evie up from her and turned her around so she was facing him. He saw the light sparkle in her little eyes when she realised who it was that now had hold of her. He was a little surprised she was crying out for him when Evan had been the one who had slept with her on his chest last night instead of leaving her coughing and sulking in the crib.
As soon as she was bundled up against his bare chest, Evie stopped crying. She turned to little gasps and sniffs and deadlocked her arms around Eddie's neck. Her nose brushed up against his neck and made him shiver while she curled up against him.
She looked a little cutie, despite the snot and tears drenching her face and the heat radiating off of her. Evie's hair was gathered up in a scrunchie and she was wearing her navy blue Fireman Sam swim costume because she thought it was both her dad's in cartoon form.
"How's she been?" Evan curved his free arm around (Y/n)'s waist and let Chris lead them towards the pool.
"Well, she's not been sick and she found a new firetruck in the toy shop which will be in the cot with her tonight, I'll bet."
It had been no secret at the station that Evan held it over Eddie's head that Evie preferred the fire truck to the ambulance. They got her a few toys of each because she was always at the station to see the team and her family. But she loved the fire truck. It didn't matter when Eddie told her about the ambulance or that he drove the ambulance whereas Evan rarely drove the truck.
And when they went to the toy store and she saw a fire truck that was just the right size for Evie to hold and cuddle like it was a teddy, the toddler wouldn't let it go.
(Y/n) had a gut feeling that when they got back to the room, Evie wouldn't let the truck out of her sight. She would fall asleep with it.
"That's our girl."
"You're burning, baby girl." Eddie spoke quietly against the top of her head while he smoothed his hand up and down her back. "Let's get you in that pool, hm?"
"Hot," Evie murmured while she drooled on Eddie's chest. She was a lot calmer now she was in his arms and she was panting from how badly she had been crying.
"I know, poorly baby." Eddie cooed with his lips against her temple and he shivered when he stepped into the pool. The contrast of freezing cold water lapping at his heels and the burning hot toddler on his chest sent his heart into a frenzy and made him shiver.
He followed after his partners, grinning when Chris flopped down onto his stomach and started crawling and shimmying further into the water.
When the water rose to his knees, Eddie slowly lowered himself down until he was sat down in the shallow end. He stretched his legs out into the water and gently lowered Evie down until she was sat on his lap with the water up to her tummy. A smile pulled at Eddie's lips when Evie shivered and gasped but the cold water seemed to make her feel better instantly.
She splashed her hands out at her sides and hit the water around Eddie's knees.
"Happy now, baby?" He whispered softly when Evie slouched down against him so her chest was submerged in the water. Her head pressed back into his abdomen and she grinned a toothy smile up at him as she began to kick her legs out and swatted him in the thighs.
After a few minutes, Eddie gently moved his hands beneath Evie's back and her head so she was laid floating up in the water. He weaved her through the water as she squealed, kicking her legs and flapping her arms while Eddie started to move more towards the middle of the pool towards his partners.
"Hey, pretty baby." Evan kissed the top of Evie's head before he leaned over to steal a kiss from Eddie.
He had his arms wrapped around (Y/n) and moved his chin back to perch on (Y/n)'s shoulder while Chris began swimming at their side. He swayed them from side to side before he leaned back in the water and pulled (Y/n) so she was laid between his thighs in the water.
(Y/n) let her head flop back onto Evan's shoulder and she attached her lips to the side of his neck, feeling his chest vibrate with a growl. Both their heads turned to the right when they heard Chris.
"Pops! Pops, floats." He was already swimming off to the side, trying to point and swim at the same time towards the large donut ring floats he could see that no one had grabbed yet. There weren't many of them around and they usually had to wait a while to find one around the pool.
"She stays with you two if we get those." (Y/n) gave a warning look between the boys and shook her head when she saw them grin.
When they came in the pool the other day and finally got four floats for them all, (Y/n) had sat Evie on her lap in one. It had been a mistake when Evie thought she was about to fall off and scrambled to hold onto (Y/n), whose swimsuit was strapless. She almost dragged (Y/n)'s suit down her chest if Evan hadn't reached out in time to swoop Evie up.
"Yeah, no flashing." Evan murmured in her ear and tightened his arms around (Y/n)'s waist while his hands travelled up to her chest. He gave her a squeeze and pressed a kiss to the side of her head before he detangled himself from her and swam over to Chris to help him.
"Are we gonna go on the rapids, baby?"
Eddie gently lifted Evie up from the water and settled her down on his chest. He felt her hands splash down on his shoulders and she nuzzled her face into his chest. He was relieved to see she was starting to cool down but he didn't want to think of the tantrum she was going to have when they eventually had to get out the pool.
"There's only three, who's bunking up?" Evan had one float hooked over each shoulder while Chris was slumped over the third one. Kicking his legs out at Evan to get towards the sectioned off water where there were currents and buckets that tipped water across them.
"Me and mum." Chris answered before any of them had the chance to say anything.
He grinned when (Y/n) ruffled his damp curls and kissed his temple before she held onto the float and steered it in the right direction so Chris didn't have to.
"Alright, in you go."
Evan held the float steady while (Y/n) dipped under the water and climbed up into the float. She secured her legs over either side and smiled brightly when Chris scrambled up too. He sat on the opposite end with his legs strewn over (Y/n)'s lap and his hands reached out to hold hers while Evan gave them a nudge into the water.
(Y/n) slouched down a little move and splashed her feet in the water over the side of the float while Chris used the wall to push them further ahead into the current. She could see Eddie following just behind them, sat like a royal with Evie curled up on his chest. She had her head tucked just beneath his chin, her hands patting his chest and her legs coiled up on his stomach.
He leaned his head back, soaking up the sun while his hand smoothed up and down Evie's back.
"Alright back there, loner?" Eddie tilted his head a bit further back, making sure he didn't tip the float over, so he could look behind him at Evan. He saw the way Evan pretended to laugh and stuck a middle finger up at him.
Eddie used his foot to kick the wall on the right and it spun the float round so he and Evie were facing backwards. Not that Evie cared right now, she was so settled he wondered if she was going to go to sleep.
"Oh no," He muttered and leaned forward, pressing his lips to the top of Evie's head as his arms curved around her tighter when he noticed the water buckets up ahead. (Y/n) and Chris sailed through them, but Eddie could see they were about to tip and pour water onto him. If Evie got splashed in the face she would scream. The chlorine stung her eyes and she couldn't handle water in her ears.
A groan spluttered past his lips when the water crashed down on the back of his neck and soaked through his hair and all across his shoulders.
"Daddy!" Evie wriggled against him, managing a little smile when she realised Eddie was soaked but she had remained mostly dry, at least her head did. He smiled down at her and shook his head whilst trying to keep his glasses perched on his nose.
When he heard the others laughing, Eddie took a calculated look around to see who was closest to them. It happened to be Evan who was only a foot away.
With a little strain, Eddie stretched his leg out towards Evan's float and gave it a swift kick. But his jaw dropped and a quiet 'ooh shit' passed Eddie's lips when he kicked the float a little too harshly.
Evan toppled out.
"Eddie!" (Y/n) pressed a hand to her mouth and tried not to laugh, but she could already see Chris tossing his head back with a cackle. Poor Evan flipped backwards and dunked under the water. "Go, go." She whispered to Chris, helping him reach for the wall and propell their float further down the river stream towards the people ahead of them. They needed to get away before Evan tried to retaliate and get his own back.
Eddie had to admit Evan looked rather fetching when he broke through the water. His curls stuck to his forehead, water cascaded off the end of his nose and dripped down his lips that were a very dark shade of red. He was panting for breath and his shoulders were hunched up, tensing and morphing the tattoos across his body.
"You little-"
"No, no! Hey, I've got the baby- I've got the baby don't you dare!" He curled his hands around Evie and shuffled her a little higher up his chest so her chin was perched on his shoulder. Although his lips morphed into an open-mouthed grin as he tried to move their float to get away.
Evan couldn't tip him over or splash him or pull him from the float because he had Evie in his arms. If she went under the water she would scream and flap about and cause a scene. He would have to wait until Eddie didn't have Evie in his arms if he wanted payback.
"I'm sorry babe."

Leaning forward, (Y/n) pressed her temple into Evan's back and closed her eyes for a few seconds. She could feel herself smiling when he reached behind to hold her hip and give her a gentle squeeze.
She reached her right hand out and smoothed her hand up and down Evan's waist while her left hand juggled Evie and moved the toddler a bit higher up onto her chest. She could feel Evie drooling into her shoulder and the little pants she let out told (Y/n) she was barely awake. That's what they wanted. They wanted Evie tired and subdued so they could get through customs and get on the plane without a fuss.
The temperature change from the boiling heat outside to the chilled aircon in the airport had made Evie cry and feel ill. And it wasn't doing (Y/n) any favours either.
"Are we nearly there?" (Y/n) didn't bother lifting her head from Evan's back. It was a comfort to feel his tense back in front of her and to breathe into his shirt and inhale his scent.
It felt like they had been queuing in this line for hours. They were going to miss their flight if they waited much longer. All it was was a bag check and a scanner to make sure they weren't bringing anything back or taking a bomb onto the plane. They hardly had to queue back home when they were at the start of their holiday. Now it was the end, things were dragging out.
"Yep, just about."
Evan gave her hip another squeeze while he leaned forward and perched his chin on Eddie's shoulder to look at the queue. They were just about at the scanner. Finally.
When Eddie started to get plastic tubs for him and Chris to put their things into, Evan leaned forward and grabbed one for himself and one for (Y/n). He dumped his bag into the box and took out the electronics, smiling to himself that (Y/n) was still cosied up against his back. And he could feel Evie snuggled between them too.
He felt (Y/n) press a kiss between his shoulder blades before she reluctantly pulled away, but she still stood close to him.
She struggled to keep Evie in one arm and take off her bag and sling it into the tray Evan had placed down for her. They had another few feet to go before they would be in the scanner, so (Y/n) wasn't in a hurry to take off her shoes or unpack the electronics from her bag.
Her breath hitched in her throat and she tensed up when she felt a shoulder nudge into her back.
Great. She had a pushy couple behind her.
Moving her hand to cradle the back of Evie's head, (Y/n) cuddled her daughter closer and took a step closer to Evan until she was practically meshed up against his back. She didn't want to be stood close to strangers, it was why they had walked around the airport with (Y/n) in between the boys while she carried Evie. So no one else would get close.
A gasp tumbled from her lips and she pushed up against Evan when the man behind her leaned over her.
She could feel his chest press into her back when he roughly leaned over her shoulder to grab a tray for his own items. He wasn't even next to the bag scanner yet and he was trying to get ready. It wouldn't make the queue speed up or make (Y/n) move any faster, she could only go as fast as everyone else.
She shivered and tilted her head up when Evan turned. He glanced over his shoulder and looked down at (Y/n) first, but she saw something burn in his eyes when he realised why she had stumbled into him.
"It's okay." (Y/n) muttered quietly and reached out to give Evan's bicep a light squeeze.
The man behind her had grabbed a tray but he was back to waiting in line behind them now. (Y/n) didn't want Evan to start a fight, not so close to the security guards in case they caused a scene or got delayed. They couldn't miss this flight when their luggage was already boarding the plane and they all wanted to get home.
She watched Evan huff and lock his jaw tight and his gaze burned into the couple behind them before he turned back round. He busied himself snapping his belt from his trousers and dumping it in the tray along with his shoes.
And he stayed tense and straight while (Y/n) held his arm and leaned into his back so she could slip off her shoes and put them in the tray.
(Y/n) took to humming while she rested her lips against Evie's temple and gently rocked her from side to side. She stayed close to Evan and shuffled forward with him while he took her tray and placed it on the conveyer belt on their right.
"Oh!"
(Y/n)'s arms tightened around Evie and she snapped her eyes closed when the man behind her pushed her once again. Only this time, with a little more force and (Y/n) was sure he'd done that on purpose to make her move.
Her elbow clattered against the conveyer belt and her head bashed into the back of Evan's arm. But it was Evie's cry that made her wince. Poor Evie slammed into Evan's back too and got squished between both parents. The abrupt motion woke her up immediately and she began to whimper, wondering what was going on.
"Do you mind?" Evan's voice snapped through the air like the jaws of a crocodile.
His hands were desperate to curl into fists but he refrained and moved both hands to hold (Y/n)'s arms when he turned round. He kept her and Evie tucked into his chest while his eyes bore down into the short but stocky man stood behind his girls.
He didn't react when he felt Eddie's hand on his waist, trying to see around him to find out what was wrong.
"What?"
"You've just pushed my partner and she's clearly got a child in her arms. Why don't you try being careful?" He looked down and moved his hand to indicate to Evie who was whimpering in (Y/n)'s arms.
When he didn't get an answer or even an apologetic look, Evan sighed. He moved his hands down from (Y/n)'s arms to hold her hips and turned them round so she was in front of him. Keeping both his girls wedged between him and Eddie so they were safe from another stumble.
He could see Eddie giving him a certain look, telling him to leave it at that, but Evan couldn't help himself. He turned to look over his shoulder and stared down at the stranger who was glaring daggers through him.
"Push me, pal. See what happens."
It was a dare more than a threat, but it did the trick because when Evan turned around, he could feel two feet of space between him and the stranger. He didn't want to take the risk and find out.

"Shh, good girl, there we go." Eddie pressed his lips to the top of Evie's head and rubbed his hand slowly up and down her back.
He could feel her snotting and whimpering into his neck while her hands fisted in his shirt and pulled it to her chest. She hadn't been best pleased when Eddie told her he couldn't take it off on the plane. Throughout their holiday she had been used to cuddling up to Eddie and Evan without their shirts on. She liked the skin contact.
If he could of snuggled Evie under his shirt, he would have.
He sat up straighter in his chair and gently swayed Evie up and down on his chest as she continued to whimper quietly. She didn't feel well, and the turbulence frightened her. Eddie was surprised she hadn't been sick yet, but then again, she threw up just before they got on the plane.
"Wanna go sit with mum and papa for a while?" He spoke against her temple before he glanced over at Chris who was sat on his right and was finally happy playing a game.
Chris hadn't been happy that they weren't all sitting together. On their first flight at the start of the holiday, the four of them all had seats together at the very back of the plane. Chris had sat next to Evan and only a small aisle separated them from (Y/n) and Eddie while they passed Evie between them throughout the flight.
This time, Chris and Eddie were in the middle row while Evan and (Y/n) were a row in front on the left row. So Chris couldn't lean over and see them properly whereas Eddie had to lean over the aisle and strain his neck to get Evan's attention.
It wasn't ideal, but at least they were paired up.
When Evie murmured into his neck, Eddie slowly stood up in the cramped space and shifted onto the aisle on his left. He took three steps forward and leaned his hips against Evan's seat.
He could see (Y/n) was half awake with her head slumped on Evan's shoulder and an arm bound around her waist. She didn't feel well. Whereas Evan was slouched down with his legs stretched out in the aisle. He and Eddie didn't exactly fit in the seats properly which was why they both sat on the aisle seats so they could stretch out.
"You sitting with us, baby?" Evan reached his arms up and eased Evie down onto his lap. He smiled when Eddie gave his shoulder a squeeze and pecked his temple, whispering a quiet 'thank you' before he headed back over to Chris.
(Y/n) smiled tiredly, keeping her right hand curled around Evan's bicep while she moved her left hand to rub up and down Evie's back.
She closed her eyes and shuffled down in her seat, curling more into Evan until she was almost sitting on his lap along with Evie. (Y/n) didn't like sitting next to strangers. It was a Godsend that the arm rests folded up so (Y/n) could shuffle closer to Evan. She had nothing against the elder man sat next to her, but (Y/n) would rather cuddle up into one of her partners than be close to a stranger.
And it wasn't as if Evan could comfortably sit- or even fit- in the middle seat which was why he and Eddie were on the end seats.
"Wanna watch a movie?" Evan looked down at Evie with a smile, but she shook her head and whimpered. She didn't have the attention span for a movie, she didn't feel well and she didn't know what to do with herself.
She stayed perched on his lap with her eyes fixated on Evan's arm. He had his right arm around her waist to keep her settled on his lap while his left arm stayed between him and (Y/n). Right where Evie could see and start to glide her fingertips across his tattoos to keep herself occupied.
Evan started to jitter his leg up and down which made Evie smile, if only for a few seconds. Her chin tilted down into her chest and she messed around with his arm which made Evan grin, he loved the sensation when either Chris or Evie started to draw patterns on his skin or trace his tattoos. He watched her contently for a few minutes while (Y/n) closed her eyes and tried to ward off the sickness she felt.
But (Y/n)'s eyes snapped open and Evan's smile faded when the seat in front of him moved.
Whoever was sitting in front tried twice to recline his chair, but it wouldn't go back any further. The way he bashed his frame into the chair caused it to jolt into Evie's back. It wasn't enough to hurt her, but it was enough to scare her into crying out and her big doe eyes looked up at Evan in fright.
"Papa…"
"S'alright, come here, look."
Evan moved his hands to Evie's sides and gently lifted her up from his lap so he could lean her on his chest instead. She rested her cheek on his shoulder and looped her arms around his neck, bending her knees into his stomach. He looped one arm around the back of her legs and ran his other hand up and down her back in slow circles.
They could just have a cuddle for a while until Evie fell asleep or settled enough to watch a movie or listen to some music.
(Y/n) dug both hands into Evan's bicep and meshed her face into his shoulder, holding her breath when the plane shuddered. She could feel the turbulence rocketing through to her heart and her throat tightened when it felt like the plane was going to drop down out of the sky.
A shudder ran through Evan's neck and he winced when Evie screamed. She wasn't as frightened as Evan thought she would be since this was their first time taking her on holiday and on a plane. But they all knew any turbulence was going to frighten her. She didn't understand what was happening.
Her nails scratched Evan's neck and she scrambled to press further into him as if she thought she could mesh herself into his chest, somehow.
A loud wail left her lips and she began to cry, breaking off every few seconds to scream when the plane gave another jolt to the left or rickoted up and down.
"Shh, baby shh it's okay, you're okay." Evan smothered his lips against Evie's cheek and moved his hand up and down her back while he rocked her back and forth. He could feel her little body trembling against him and it made him want to cry. But he was glad she was sat with him. Eddie was a good flyer, but he didn't like turbulence either. Eddie would be sat stiff in his seat right now, praying for a smooth flight.
When the plane finally levelled out, Evan glanced down at (Y/n). She had stopped shaking too but she didn't lift her head from his shoulder. He didn't mind.
His lips stayed meshed with Evie's cheek and he continued to hum and shush her while leaning from left to right to see if it would help. But his eyes locked with the man sitting in the window seat beside (Y/n). He thought for a moment that the man was going to tut or roll his eyes, but instead, he just smiled.
"You good?" Evan looked down at (Y/n) when she lifted her face from his shoulder so she could rest her cheek on his arm instead. She nodded, but he could see she was uneasy and she still looked sick.
The plane shook again, but it was only a little tremor this time.
"Alright, you're okay baby." He murmured again into Evie's cheek as she continued to whimper into his neck.
But Evan's attention diverted to the chair in front when the man slammed back in his seat again. It was as if he thought bashing around in his chair would somehow make it recline further but if that happened he would be laying on Evan's lap. He gave it another shove with a loud grumble that made (Y/n) open her eyes to see what was going on.
"Oh for fuck's sake."
The stranger's loud remark made (Y/n)'s stomach churn and she darted her eyes up to look at Evan.
Another round of expletives left his lips in a mixture of 'fucking plane' and 'bloody stupid' amongst other things. When he either hit his chair or slammed his elbow back into it, both (Y/n) and Evie quivered.
What was he doing? Was he desperate for a power nap so early into the evening like this?
When he swore again, Evie lifted her head from Evan's neck and looked up at him. She knew those were bad words but she didn't know who was saying them or who was getting angry. The panic was written across her face as her eyes creased and a cry tumbled past her lips as she looked at Evan in fear.
Evan coiled his left arm around Evie to keep her stood up on his thighs with her body slumped against his chest. He smoothed his hand up and down her hip as she wrapped her arms back around his neck and began crying into his shoulder. Even with (Y/n) leaning into her and cuddling her, Evie continued to shake.
"Stop." Reaching forward, Evan planted his right palm flat against the chair in front and gave it enough of a shove that the man jolted forward.
"What are you doing?"
The man leaned around the side of his chair so he could look behind him at Evan. The disgusted look on his face made Evan arch a brow and curl his lips in anger. He didn't look much older than Evan, late thirties, early forties at a push. But the anger and frown lines on his face could have aged him ten years.
"Your swearing and mouthing off is upsetting my daughter. Give it a rest please." Evan sighed through his words while he leaned his chin on his right hand and stared blankly at the man in front of him.
He wouldn't sit here and continue to let this stranger mouth off and frighten Evie when she wasn't well and she was already petrified of being on a plane.
And surely this man's disruptive behaviour was irritating or upsetting a few other people on the plane, not just them.
Eddie leaned to the left with his elbow on the arm rest and his head tilted up so he could look down the aisle. He knew Evan's voice, he could recognise his boyfriend's voice a mile away and he knew that tone. Evan was both losing his patience and getting worried at the same time and that was never good. Eddie could feel his stomach flooding with adrenaline as he watched the man in front of Evan leer at him and look him up and down with scrutinising eyes.
"I thought that was his kid?" The moment those words passed through the stranger's lips and he pointed towards the back of the plane in Eddie's direction, that was it.
"Stay here." Eddie whispered firmly to Chris as he got up and thundered down the aisle. He barely stood beside Evan before the stranger started again.
"And she's not exactly quiet, is she? Screaming her fucking head off since we took off."
(Y/n) took a deep breath and kept both arms coiled tightly around Evan's arm when he looked like he was about to get up. He couldn't retaliate when Evie was whimpering in his arms. The toddler could sense an argument was about to break out and it was frightening her.
But when (Y/n) looked up and realised Eddie was already hovering beside them like a dark omen, she bit her lip.
Her heart thundered in her chest when Eddie roughly grabbed the back of the man's seat and gave it a harsh shove to get his attention. His fingers were almost ripping through the material as Eddie leaned on the chair and leaned down until he was level with the man in front of him.
"I don't know who you think you are, but if you talk about our daughter like that again, you'll be flying home with the air rescue."
Eddie didn't care one bit who this man was or who he thought he was. He had no right to talk to any of them like that or speak about Evie as if she was some silly teenager playing up on purpose. She was a toddler, she was only two years old. How could this man sit there and honestly expect her to be quiet or calm or happy when she was petrified?
"Listen mate, I-"
"No, you're gonna listen to me now. She's a sick little child who's frightened, you're just a prick with an attitude. Show some respect or prepare to be taught a lesson."
Eddie's callous voice and his intensifying gaze had the man stunned to silence. It was very clear what Eddie was saying. If he didn't stop being so disrespectful, Eddie would punch him. He would start and end a fight right here on this plane and he didn't care if they had to make an emergency landing in order to do that.
He wouldn't have someone talking to his family like that and upsetting his daughter.
Eddie took such a deep breath he felt like he was going to pass out. He straightened up until his head was almost touching the roof and he watched as the stranger sank down in his chair and turned to look at the screen in front of him. He wasn't giving Eddie the satisfaction of seeing his embarrassed, frightened expression.
A tender smile pulled at (Y/n)'s lips as she looked between her boys. "Maybe you two should switch seats… keep the kids out the way?"
It seemed a safer option for Evie to be back with Chris two rows behind so she wasn't near that man. She was now petrified. The toddler was trembling against Evan and whimpering quietly into his neck. Sitting here so close to the man that shouted at them was only going to frighten her even more. And she was still attached to Evan at the moment.
It would be better if Evan sat with Chris and made sure the kids were okay. And that meant Eddie could sit directly behind the person he had just threatened and keep an eye on him.
"Come on baby girl," Evan kept Evie close to his chest and pecked (Y/n)'s temple before he got up.
He smiled when he felt Eddie's hand on his lower back and a soft kiss against the side of his neck while they weaved around each other to switch places. Evan made a slow walk over to Eddie's seat where Chris was leaning to get a look at the action, grinning around his thumb that he was biting down on.
And Eddie swung round and flopped into Evan's vacant seat, slouching down so his knees pressed into the chair in front. His left hand instinctively curled around (Y/n)'s upper thigh while he scrunched his right hand into a fist and rested his chin on his hand.
He turned his head to the left and looked at (Y/n) with an arched brow and quirked lips. He watched her lean over until her chest was pressed up against his bicep and her hand fell on his chest that was rising and falling rapidly like he had just run a marathon.
Her lips pressed a kiss to the soft spot behind his ear that had him shivering and gripping her thigh harder.
"Well done, babe."

If you don’t specify a house for hp fics I'll write it as netural or i’ll choose one which fits the storyline

Cannons in my writing and things to know:
Below is some of the things i tend to keep cannon in my writing but these can differ depending on the readers house and storyline (mostly for hp fics):
If the reader is Hufflepuff they are always friends with Jess McConnell and Cedric Diggory (Golden Era), or Amos Diggory and Alex McConnell (Marauder Era)
If the reader is Slytherin they will usually be friends with Timothy Greengrass and Joey Taggart (Golden Era), or Regulus, Barty, Evan and Pandora (Marauder Era)
I won’t write Marlene, Angelina, Pansy or Astoria as villians, they may be in the story but I refuse make them toxic for the sake of it
Cedric won’t be used as a way of making people jealous, I see that used alot plus I really like Cho and Cedric so i prefer to write him as a good friend/brother figure
Neville and Luna are always sweeties
Marlene and Dorca are always iconic queens
In non-voldy universes Peter is the cutest and sweetest marauder (aka the loveable weirdo)
When the reader isn't paired with them the following ships are cannon: wolfstar, dorlene, jilly or jegulus/marylily, hinny, romione

Our little family
Pairings: dad!Evan Buckley x mom!reader
Summary: your little family with Buck (might make this a series)
Warning: fluff, mentions of breastfeeding, I think that’s it

At only 36 weeks pregnant, your daughter decided to make an early appearance, while it shocked the both of you, you were both happy with your healthy, tiny, baby girl, Celia Reign Buckley, you were both scared of it being rough but she has been nothing but a calm baby, whenever she was hungry her cries were never that loud and she wouldn’t cry for hours, when breastfeeding her, she was always gentle, she was never too rough with you For the past 2 months
That was until a few weeks ago, she started fussing a lot, crying more often, crying louder then usual, and here you were, holding a crying baby in your arms
The sun hasn’t even gone up yet and your daughter was crying her eyes out, you and Buck tried everything, you tried feeding her, changing her, singing her a song, yet nothing calmed her down
“Buck seriously go sleep you have work in the morning” you said, practically whispering while rocking your baby as you were afraid that any loud noise would make Celia cry even louder
“I’m not sleeping until she’s passed out” he sighed, his head thrown back as he pinched the bridge of his nose “here, give her to me”
You gently passed Celia to Buck and sat next to him and laid your head on his shoulder, he rested her head on his other shoulder as he patted her back with his hand while his other arm was below her bum, holding her closer to him if possible as he was slowly drifting
He didn’t pay attention to her cries slowly turning into whimpers, you gently nudged his elbow to grab his attention, when he opened his eyes he noticed his daughter practically clinging to his shirt, the side of her face pressed up against his chest and her thumb inside her mouth, sucking on it as if it was her pacifier, you both smiled at the sight of her your hand came up to gently replaced her thumb with her pacifier and stroked her cheek with your thumb “she’s definitely going to have your personality”
“What’s that supposed to mean?” He said while looking at you acting like he was offended
“I mean come on Buck, you literally cuddle me at any give time you have, I’m not surprised she got this from you, I’m just surprised she’s getting it now” he couldn’t help but roll his eyes at you while you quietly chuckled and laid you head on his shoulder once again as you started to drift off on the couch with the both of them next to you

In the morning you were woken up to the smell of coffee, you realized that you were now laying down on the couch with your daughter on your chest still asleep, you kissed her forehead before gently sitting up and walking to the kitchen, still holding on to Celia
“Morning” your voice was still filled with sleep as you sat on one of the stools in the kitchen
Buck walked over to you with one cup of coffee in his hand and a glass of water in the other, placing them both down, he placed a kiss on your lips but was shortly interrupted as Celia started to stir and fuss “looks like someone’s waking up”
She shortly opened her eyes and it didn’t take long before she her soft cries filled the room, indicating that she was ready for her breakfast
Her cries didn’t last long as you adjusted her body against your breast so she could eat, kissing her tiny knuckles as she starting eating
“I called work and told them I won’t be able to come today and thought we could maybe spend the entire day together you know, just the three of us” Buck said, breaking the silence that was often broken by the sound of Celia eating
“That sound nice” a smile was plastered on your face as you looked at Buck, he nodded as he took one last sip of coffee, he placed the empty cup in the sink and kissing your lips one last time and kissing Celia’s forehead before sitting next to you on another stool
You both watch in awe as your daughter ate, her eyes were wide open, looking at the both of you with her blue eyes that get got from her father, her beautiful Y/C/H hair that was slowing growing on her head, she was a beautiful mix of the both of you and you couldn’t feel more proud about it
