you had just finished shutting the doors of the ambulance, giving it two loud bangs for them to drive before re-joining the crew.
"another great save guys, good job!" bobby says as he pats eddie on the back, walking over to ready the engine.
"god im hungry!" he blurted out and you just laugh, "what?"
"i just seriously don't understand how you're hungry after all of that," if anything you felt incredibly nauseous.
that's when you felt the sharp hot pain in your side, suddenly finding it hard to stand, it had become apparent that your adrenaline had worn off.
falling to your knees as you cried out in agony. your hands pressed to the hurt area, pulling it back to find your hand soaked in your own blood.
buck worriedly rushed to your side, his hands gently pushed your shoulders back so you laid out flat on the ground. only to find the cause of your discomfort was a large piece of glass was sticking out of your stomach through your jacket.
his first thought was to curse you as you had recklessly climbed through the windshield when you helped the young woman out of the recent car wreck, only for her to be okay and for you to get injured yourself.
he rummaged through his medical bag for something to stop the bleeding, struggling but finally found the right supplies. using his teeth to rip open the packaging before putting pressure around the glass making you groan out in pain.
"i know, i know sweetheart. you're gonna be okay." no words left you just sharp little breaths as you lightly gripped onto bucks arm, trying to give him some sort of reassurance.
he screamed out for the rest of the team, voice breaking as tears streamed down his face. the glass was deep like really deep, all evan could think about was you and if anything had been nicked internally.
bobby and eddie ran over to the two of you, you could hear one of them call for another ambulance as soon as possible. something about a firefighter down, but all you could focus on was how cold you had gotten.
"buck i don't feel s-so goo-d..." for the first time in a long time you were afraid.
"they're on their way, you gotta hold on for me, please!" he begged as he smoothed the hair that had fallen across your face with his spare shaking hand, the other still tightly pressed against your wound.
shakily you lifted your hand to brush his tears, your thumb very slowly caressing his cheek. "you'll be oka.."
the pain was all too much, it was too difficult to keep your eyes open. evan shook your face, "no. no you've got to stay awake! i can't lose you." he shouted, as eddie pulled him away from you. the paramedics put you on the gurney rushing you into the back of the vehicle immediately hooking you up to multiple medications.
bobby and buck shared a look, the captain gave him a swift nod, that's all it took for him to jump into the seat next to you. grabbing a hold of your hand, squeezing it tightly in his own as you made your way to the hospital.
Tumblr media
beep. beep. beep.
your vision was blurred as you opened your eyes, first seeing the heart monitor and the dark sky that peaked out from behind the wonky blinds. the hospital was quiet, a little too quiet for your liking.
you turned to your other side, finding a sleeping evan in what looked like the most uncomfortable chair with a blanket wrapped around his body.
a smile tugged at your lips, he stayed with you. your smile soon fell realising the last thing he saw of you conscious was you nearly bleeding out in his arms.
readjusting yourself was harder than you thought, grunting at the pain, holding your side.
buck woke up startled, jumping up to help you lay back down.
"that was one way to get your attention," you laugh before wincing.
"you've got to be careful, that glass got you good." he says as he straightened out your blanket.
he was trying to not show his worry, you had known him far too long to see through that. "buck, buckley!" you whisper yelled, grabbing his hand, pulling him close to you the best that you could.
everything fell still. his bigger hand intertwined with yours.
"i was so worried," his voice wobbled, it was only loud enough for you to hear.
"i should've stopped you, if i did you wouldn't be here right now."
you squeezed his hand, looking up at him. "you know you couldn't have stopped this, ev."
tugging on his hand to bring him closer to you, shuffling over in your bed, patting the small amount of space next to you. "hop in?" you questioned with a smile.
"there's no way there is enough room on that thing for the both of us!" he exclaimed
"well you better squeeze in then."
and so he did, your bodies pressed up against one another. only after buck extensively checked that he wasn't hurting you or laying on any tubes.
you were now both settled face-to-face, hearing nothing but each others breaths and the beating of your machine. your heart rate elevated when he leaned in closer to run his fingers through your hair.
feeling your face heat up, closing your eyes, embarrassed how a simple action could do that to you, let alone him being able to hear it. the sound of him chuckling worried you. but the feeling of him going back to gently brushing the stray hairs out of your face comforted you.
"i know we deal with close calls every single day, but i... god. all i could think about when they took you away was all the things i hadn't told you yet."
your eyebrows furrowed and eyes reopened, "what things?"
"uh, well things like 'i love you' and also to let you know that 'you stink'," he laughed as you playfully punched him in the arm.
"hey, ow!"
"took you long enough." you exaggeratedly sighed whilst trying to keep a straight face.
"you knew?!" he exclaimed as he sat up still looking for answers.
laughing at his reaction as you held your bandage, "no, you c'mere!"
he scooped you up in his arms, your arms wrapping around his shoulders, laughter now gone. he leaned in close, his lips brushed softly against yours. smiling into the kiss you pulled him closer to you.
you stayed like that for a while, cuddling, kissing and talking. that soon came to a stop when you fell asleep listening to evan's voice, he only realised this mid ramble. pulling the covers up over you, closing his eyes, slowly wrapping his arms around you. not before giving you a kiss on the forehead of course.

Hello can you make Maddie and Buck's little sister who is a teenager has an accident or is injured and she calls 911 to find her sister who sends the firefighter and her brother and in a panic with Maddie on the phone who is panicking too
Tumblr media
ᕚ---ᕘ
With a choked gasp, you startled and looked around in a halting darkness that human eyes could never adjust to. Cold, rough chunks of concrete that painfully buried you underneath did not let in any light. Not the slightest ray could stray through it.
Orientation in the blackness was almost impossible and the disorientation made you seem even more helpless than you already were. "Hello? Can someone hear me?" Struggling to lend strength to your dusty voice, you tried to straighten your torso, but a searing pain tore through the upper left quadrant of your abdomen prevented you.
The air was damp, musty and cold. Fine particles of the collapsed concrete still trickled onto your tear-streaked face, while your lungs filled with a teaspoon of dust with every breath you took.
You did not know if you were alone when the parking deck collapsed on itself, but the thought that someone else might be trapped in her, or possibly even dead, frightened you. "Please, is someone here?"
The vibrating of your phone pulled you back from your thoughts. Totally forgetting you had it with you and surprised to find it had still a transmission to the outside world, you were grateful.
Silently and cautiously, you pulled out your phone with shaky, wet hands and clung to the piece of plastic, trying to shed some light on your situation. It was only through the brightness of the screen that you had realized, you were in more trouble than you thought you were.
The liquid on your hands was nothing more than dark red blood stretching across your fingers and was trickling down your wrist. Your leg was buried below the knee under a steel beam, which is why you had long lost feeling in it while a small iron rod protruded from your torso and penetrated your lower ribs.
"Crap," you moaned disconcertingly and laid your head back down on the concrete slab that allowed and supported to keep your upper body upright. The chunks of gray stone that had embedded your body, shifted cruelly under your movements, some small pieces trickling down on you from above.
Covering your eyes protectively, you could not feel if new small wounds adorned your skin and you did not dare to move any further to check which put your heart in a more obvious state of panic, but you hardly felt the beating in your chest. It slowed down.
With the last ounce of your strength steadily oozing out with the blood from your wounds, you dialed 911 hoping the network would hold up this conversation. After all, you were buried under debris that could interfere with the signal. "911, what is your emergency?"
"Maddie," you groaned wearily, instantly recognizing your eldest sibling through the cracking line. Her voice was dulled and partially interrupted, yet you felt a deep sense of relief to hear it. You were not alone anymore. "I-I need help"
The brunettes breath caught in her throat as your faint and barely audible voice entered her ears. It had come as quite a shock to Maddie, when she unsuspectingly had you on the helpline and found a chilling story about your well-being. "Y/n, where are you? Are you okay? What happened?"
"T-the parking garage at Cherokee Avenue collapsed," like a second hand, sweat formed on your forehead, although the warmth had long left. Dizziness caught up with you, but with a lot of luck and willpower, you managed to escape it and searched for a spot to focus on in the slightly lit environment. "I am buried under the rubble"
"Oh my god, a-are you hurt?"
"My leg is crushed. A metal rod is sticking out of my stomach, it hurts terribly. I am losing an awful lot of blood," Maddie had to listen helplessly to the spectacle that was taking place in disbelief and bewilderment. Absentmindedly, she fiddled with the keyboard and at the same time played with her private phone to call and inform your brother.
Meanwhile, the air was becoming increasingly scarce. Under no circumstances should you breathe in too deeply, using the precious oxygen sparingly. "I can not breathe," it came hoarsely from your lips as tears streamed unabashedly down your face.
A fit of coughing shook you and an iron taste kindled in your mouth. You could hardly breathe, the oxygen supply was running out and your lungs were heavier by the minutes. Just as quickly, the fear of endless, terrifying darkness and the cold that towered over you.
"I do not want to die, Maddie," you sobbed into the phone, the optimism of getting out of her alive dwindling. Walled under concrete and buried under dust, you knew no way out and fear filled you more with every passing minute. "You will not, sweetheart. Buck is on the way, you just have to hold on. Hold on and listen to me while we wait together for your brother, okay?"
The familiarity of Maddie´s voice allowed you to remain calm, at least on the surface, while your soul rampaged around the stable like a panicked horse. And so you had begun to wait for the approaching help with the fear of death and the agony that awaited you.
ᕚ---ᕘ
The sun was already beginning to set and the clouds hung gray in the sky as the team around Bobby Nash drove up to the scene. Upon arrival, the remains of various building material and destroyed vehicles were scattered on the crumbling ground.
Cold, dusty air blew in the faces of the team and the feeling that was churning in them as they saw the collapsed building, knowing you were under there, stretched bitterly through their chest. With heavy strides, Evan Buckley ran up to the top of the rubble, his phone clutched tightly to his ear, frantically calling your name while following his sisters panicked statements.
With his right leg, he swept away the small chunks and bits of metal. "Y/n!" his voice sounded rough and scratchy, he could no longer think clearly when uncertainty and sadness overcame him. "Where are you?"
Huffing and distraught, tears welled up in his eyes as he watched his teammates pull some stones from the pile. Evan rushed and jumped down, desperate to get through to you with all of his accumulated power. "Maddie, I can not hear her, is she still there?" with a jerk, he thoughtfully scratched the back of his head while biting his bottom lip hard and tasting the stale taste of blood.
He felt like complete destruction.
"Call is ongoing, but she is not responding to me anymore!" Maddie answered. Hard, he pounded his fist against the stones until his knuckles were severely sore and bleeding, only to repeat the procedure in frustration. Evan Buckley possessed a mental strength that was admired by everyone. But when it came to his little sister, he lost all of the stability and raged through life like a tornado. "Come on, move. We have to get her out of here"
As they spent hours trying to dig their way out to you, you vacillated between consciousness and unconsciousness. The phone meanwhile had slipped out of your hand and was inaccessible, nevertheless your sister was still panicking on the receiver, calling your name several times unsuccessfully.
You had no strength, empty air escaped your mouth instead of simple words.
From afar, you heard murmuring voices gathering around you. They talked frantically and at once a while some of them screamed and interrupted the conversations. Everyone seemed so far away, that you hardly could understood their words. "Y/n, where are you?"
"I am here, please" you whispered in a low voice that was probably barely audible. A violent chill went through you as the voices slowly approached and called out to you. The ground beneath you vibrated, bits and pieces of thick stone clamped above you, whose pillar was preventing it from coming down and crushing you, rained down dust before moments later a faint, dirty light flooded your place through a small crack.
"We found her!"

Tumblr media
There was nervous excitement in the air as you sat on your living room couch, waiting patiently for your boyfriend to return home from work. Buck had already texted you that he would be home in a few minutes, which meant it was almost time for you to share the big news.
Everything was already in place for the surprise. You couldn’t wait to see the look on his face when he found out things were about to change in the most perfect way. It would be a moment the two of you would remember for the rest of your intertwined lives.
Without thinking, your hands moved to your stomach and caressed it lovingly, a soft smile on your face as you did so. It was much too early to feel anything, but still, your little nudger was in there.
You had no idea when you woke up this morning and kissed Buck goodbye before going your separate ways, that a routine checkup at the doctor's office would lead to finding out you were pregnant.
It was beyond unexpected, but certainly not unwelcomed. Or at least you hoped.
There was a tiny worry in your mind that he wouldn’t be happy, but you didn’t want to focus on that as you knew it was simply anxiety talking. Buck loved you, adored you, and had told you many times he wanted a future with you. A child with you.
Sure, the situation might not be exactly perfect. The two of you weren’t married, and the one-bedroom loft was less than ideal for your growing family, but the two of you had love and trust.
Together, you would figure everything out and be the happy family you had always dreamed of.
Your thoughts were interrupted as the front door opened and your boyfriend strode inside. Buck looked tired, as he always did after a long shift, but he brightened the moment he saw you.
“Welcome home, baby,” you said, standing up with a smile on your face.
“Sweetheart, you know you didn’t have to wait up,” Buck said, heading over to you and pulling you into a tight loving embrace.
“Of course I did, I needed to see you,” you murmured, pressing a soft kiss into his neck. “I missed you.”
“God, I missed you more. I am so glad to be home with you, today was one intense call after another. Tomorrow is my day off, thank fuck. Yours too right?”
Chuckling lightly at the hope and worry in his voice, you nodded. “Yes, we’ll be able to spend the whole day together. Promise.”
“Wonderful,” Buck said, visibly relieved. “Is it alright if we go ahead and get some rest then? We can sleep in late, then I’ll wake up and make us a big breakfast.”
“Sure, baby.”
You bit the inside of your mouth to keep yourself from smiling as the night was going exactly as you wanted. The time to surprise him was getting closer and closer, making it hard to contain your excitement.
Taking his hand, you led him into the bedroom, doing your best to avoid looking at your shared dresser. You sat down on the bed, letting go of his hand and watching as he drifted around the room.
You knew your boyfriend’s usual nightly routine by heart. He tended to shower at the station, so all he had to do was brush his teeth, put on some facial cream, and change into his pajamas, which were in his top drawer. There, he would find your hidden surprise.
It was hard, but you waited patiently until Buck was done in the bathroom and practically counted his steps as he headed over to the dresser. Your anticipation was ready to burst and he had no idea.
“God, I can’t wait to get in bed. I’m going to pass right out,” he yawned, pulling the drawer open before freezing in place.
Buck stood there for a good thirty seconds, you eyeing him with bated breath as you awaited his reaction. He turned around slowly, his blue eyes wide as he clutched the tiny green striped onesie that said “I love you.”
The moment you left the doctor's office, you headed right over to Target and bought it. It was how your mother told your father and so you knew it was the perfect way to tell Buck the news.
“___, does this mean what I think? I mean we’re p-pre…?” Buck seemed unable to get the final word out.
“Pregnant? Yes, we are,” you finished for him as you stood up slowly.
His reaction didn’t tell you much. He looked as if his entire world had come to a halt.
He’s upset. He isn’t happy and doesn’t want this.
The intrusive thought came on fast, but you pushed it away. All you wanted was to be in this moment with Buck. Whatever happened and however he felt, the two of you were in this together.
“Are you… happy?” You asked hesitantly, unconsciously wringing your hands together.
Buck let out a deep exhale and locked eyes with you. The deep emotion now smoldering in them caught you by surprise.
“Happy? There’s not a word to describe what I’m feeling… Sweetheart, we’re going to have a baby! We’re going to be parents!”
Before you could respond, Buck was pulling you into a bear hug and lifting you as he swung the two of you around. Before he suddenly froze and placed you down carefully.
“Oh god, you’re pregnant. I shouldn’t swing you. I’m sorry, fuck, are you dizzy?” He asked with genuine fear in his doe eyes.
You only laugh at his question. One, from utter relief, and two, from how adorable he was. Gosh, you were truly lucky.
“I’m just fine, Buck. Promise. I’m just so relieved that you’re happy,” you murmured, bringing your hand up to gently caress his cheek.
Buck's eyebrows furrowed. “Of course. Did you think I wouldn’t be?”
“It was just my anxiety talking. I mean I’ve never had to tell someone I was pregnant before so my brain was running through every possible response, ya know?”
“That makes sense, but darling I love you unconditionally. This is a surprise, but a welcomed one. We’re going to be a family,” Buck whispered, voice thick with heavy emotion as he placed a gentle hand on your stomach.
“We are and it sounds so scary, but at the same time like everything I’ve ever wanted.”
You gazed into his eyes as you said that and leaned in to meet his lips in a deep passionate kiss.
Whatever the future may hold, you no longer had any worries. Your new and growing family would face it together.

Prompt - ‘Now this is an open-shut case I guess I should've known from the look on your face.’
Tumblr media
Whenever Buck was around things were just easier. He made everything around him lighter, always there with a warm smile and would do anything for anyone. It hadn’t taken long for the two of you to become friends, to be inseparably joined at the hip. It wasn’t just that you worked well together, able to read each other without needing words, you were close once the shift ended, whereas most people who spent as much time as you did with your colleagues would part ways, you and Buck left together and spent hours at each other's side.
You knew that your feelings for Buck went deeper than just friendship, it was obvious to anybody looking at the pair of you that you were half way in love with the man. It was also painfully obvious that Buck was right there with you but you couldn’t see it, not even when the others told you about the way Buck looked at you, not even when they insisted that the two of you would be perfect together.
When you looked at Buck you couldn't see how he felt, sure he was all soft smiles and gentle touches but he was the same with all his friends. You couldn’t guess from the look on his face that he could want more than what you had.
You often found yourself getting lost around Buck, gazing at him whilst he spoke as you tried to see what the others claimed was obvious but you never could. Occasionally you thought something could have been there, some longing glance or adoring look but you always shook your head, convincing yourself that you were just seeing what you wanted to see.
You were content with what you had though, you had to be otherwise it would drive you crazy, you had to be because if you weren’t it meant you’d mess up what you already had with Buck and you couldn’t do that. You’d rather silently pine whilst dreaming about what it would be like to love Buck and be loved back than not have him around at all.
It drove the others crazy that neither of you could see what could be, how easy it would be for the two of you to have one little conversation that would lead to so much happiness. They'd watched you and Buck from day one, seen the way your eyes were immediately drawn to him as Bobby introduced you to the team, saw the way Buck jumped at every opportunity to show you around and helped you with the copious amounts of chores given to you as a probie.
The two of you were perfect for each other, you could go from bantering and teasing into deep and meaning conversations, you were capable of getting Buck to let down his walls, him telling you things he had never shared with anyone before, likewise Buck was probably the person on the planet who knew you best. Whilst it was tempting to shake the two of you by the shoulders until you saw sense or lock you in a room until things were resolved everybody knew that you and Buck had to do this alone, with or without their intervention it was pretty much guaranteed that you two would get together.
It wasn’t just in the way you and Buck could flip between serious and playful when the situation called for it. It was the way you would take one look at Buck, needing only a second to scan his features, before you disobeyed Bobby’s direct orders and followed Buck into a burning building, trusting his judgement and following where he went without a second thought, knowing you’d follow him wherever he went for as long as he’d have you whether it was into his car on the way home or into the flames. It was the way he wrapped his arm around you so casually drawing you closer to him, the way his hand squeezed yours so softly in the truck whenever he could see a call had affected you. It was the way you sat on the counter as you watched him dance around as he spent hours cooking a meal just for the two of you. It was the little moments that would be so meaningless to others that you held close, that made you fall further and further for Buck.
There were so many times you’d just wanted to beg him to show you he felt the same, beg him to take your hand and never let go. You were content with what you had but you could selfishly want more too.
Despite the fact that both of you wanted so badly, nothing happened between the two of you for years, long painful years filled with the most beautiful memories. By this point you knew it was love, there wasn’t another word for the rush of emotions you still felt whenever Buck smiled at you, whenever you watched him scoop Christopher up to greet him, when you watched him punch at the bags in the gym, when he held you in his arms, it was love.
The others liked to joke that it would take a miracle for you and Buck to finally see that you had practically been dating for all this time. It seemed the universe agreed with the sentiment of wanting you and Buck together but instead of a miracle it gave you a tragedy instead.
It was a call that sounded bad from the get-go and by the time you rolled up to the scene the fire was out of control, already engulfing the two buildings to the side of it. If it was bad outside it was even worse inside. Obviously you were used to feeling the heat of the flames way too close for comfort, it was the job after all, but something about this one felt different, the flames engulfed everything around them, the ceiling was collapsing in on each floor, cutting off exits. Smoke was thick in the air as you made your way through the building, Buck ahead of you as he cleared the way before helping you through.
In the distance a floor or two up you could hear a child crying hysterically, choking on tears and smoke but at least they were still breathing. You and Buck didn’t know how much time you had but it wasn’t long so the two of you tried to work your way upwards, the stairs not an option anymore. You made it up one floor, the sweat pouring off both of you when the radios cracked to life.
“118, evacuate the building.” Bobby’s voice called through and Buck’s head whipped around to look at you, his eyes shifting from yours to the ceiling, the child’s cries closer now. “I repeat evacuate the building, it’s been declared too unstable, it’s going to crumble any moment.”
You and Buck stayed silent, gazes locked on each other for a few seconds as the rest of the team confirmed they were moving out.
“Buck, Y/N, come in.” Bobby called and Buck shook his head.
“What do you want to do?” You asked him, knowing already what his answer would be. Neither of you would be able to leave without at least trying.
“I’m not leaving.” Buck told you and you nodded that was all you needed and you gestured for him to carry on. “Y/N/N, you gotta leave.”
“Not happening, Buck. Hurry, we don't have long.” You told him, seeing the wide eyed soft look he was giving you behind his helmet and any other time you’d be lost in that expression, thinking it over and over but right now wasn’t the time.
“Take my hand.” Buck said as he struggled over the rubble, holding a hand out to help you and you slid your hand into his palm, even with the heavy uniform you couldn’t help but savour the moment.
Bobby’s voice called through the radio again and as you and Buck headed towards the crying child you listened to Buck arguing with him, refusing to leave before turning the radio off completely.
“If we get out of here alive Bobby’s gonna kill you for that.” You told him and couldn't help the pull of your lips as he laughed before pulling himself up another floor, using the rubble to help him.
“Yeah probably but what else is new?” He grinned, holding his hand out again for you and you let him help you pull you up.
The whole building seemed to shake and Buck grabbed onto your arms, pulling you closer as you waited for something to happen, neither of you breathing until a few seconds passed and the building just about stayed standing.
The sound of the child’s screeching cries snapped you back into action, both of your heads turning right in the direction before Buck let go of you with a nod. You nodded back and followed after him with careful steps, keeping your eyes on Buck and desperately trying to focus on him and not the building that was minutes away from collapsing.
“I got her!” Buck called as he climbed through the rubble and picked the child up, she couldn’t have been more than four, her face red and tear stained as more flooded down her cheeks. “C’mere kid, I gotcha.”
Buck picked the girl up and she went willingly, clinging to Buck’s neck as he walked back over to the pile of rubble blocking the room.
“Hey, I’m gonna pass you to my friend, is that alright? She’s real nice and she’ll take care of you.” Buck murmured to the girl and you couldn’t help but smile as he pried her fingers off him and gently passed her through the gap he had made. “That’s it, you got her.”
Just as you took the girl from him the building gave another violent shake that had you and Buck freezing again, the girl letting out a cry as she buried her head against your coat. This shake was worse than the one earlier and lasted longer and you felt sick to your stomach as you kept your eyes on Buck. Buck went to say something, you could see his mouth opening before he frowned and looked up just as the building shook again and before you could even register what was happening Buck had disappeared from view and where he had stood was now filled with rubble.
You were frozen to the spot for a few seconds before you let out a shuddering breath, head shaking as tears filled your eyes.
“Buck!” You yelled, knowing it was wrong but you placed the girl against the opposite wall and began trying to dig your way through the rubble, desperately calling Buck’s name as you struggled against the heavy pieces of ceiling.
“Buck please, come on!” You sobbed before snatching your radio from your coat and calling for Bobby.
“Y/N, what happened? The two of you need to get out of there now!” Bobby ordered but you shook your head, tears falling down your cheeks as you struggled to breath. “Y/N!”
“Bobby,” You choked out, “Bobby I’ve got a kid here but I can’t, I can’t leave him, Bobby, please.”
You would be surprised if Bobby could make out your words, your breath coming out in quick panicked gasps and you were choking on tears as you let the radio go to keep trying to dig through the rubble, making no progress, every time you moved one piece three more seemed to fill its place.
The radio was silent for a few moments before Bobby’s voice came through again.
“Stay where you are, I'm coming in.” Bobby told you and before the radio cut off you could hear somebody protesting but you didn’t care. Bobby would come in and get the girl and you knew you weren’t leaving without Buck.
The flames were closing in and you knew you didn’t have long left. From below you could hear footsteps and you looked towards the room Buck was trapped in and the flames quickly creeping towards the opening you’d used to get onto this floor.
You picked the girl up again and ran over to the opening, already seeing Bobby, Chimney and Eddie coming towards you, putting out as many of the flames as they could. You were already lowering the girl down and Chimney was quick to grab her but you didn’t stick around after that, you were instantly back at the pile of rubble, gloved hands desperately trying to free Buck.
“Buck, Buck please, please I need you. I can’t lose you, not you.” You sobbed out, pleading with anyone who would listen to just let Buck be ok. There was so much left unsaid between the two of you and you promised yourself you’d tell him everything, you’d tell him you loved him, tell him you didn’t ever want to picture your life without him at your side, you tell him everything if you got the chance to.
You hadn’t even heard Bobby and Eddie join you until you saw their hands dragging rubble away too. The building gave another shake but this time you didn’t freeze, you kept digging, kept pleading, kept sobbing. You needed to get Buck out.
Finally, finally, you managed to get into the room. The ceiling had caved in, crashing down into the room and bringing furniture from upstairs through with it. It was bad but thankfully not bad enough that you couldn’t move around the room. Your eyes found Buck immediately, trapped underneath a piece of rubble, a cut on his head was bleeding and his eyes were closed.
Between the three of you, you managed to free Buck from the rubble, you couldn’t see if he was more injured than just the head wound with the coat covering him but you prayed that he was fine, he had to be because you didn’t know what you’d do if he wasn’t.
The building was shaking now, the foundation ready to crumble and Bobby and Eddie wasted no time in lifting Buck between them and quickly but carefully carried him from the building. Just as Buck was being loaded into the ambulance you heard a rumble and glanced behind you just in time to see the building cave in on itself, the two next to it following in suit.
You didn’t care though, just climbed into the ambulance next to Buck and sat still as you watched the paramedics assess him. Silent tears made their way down your face but you couldn’t stop the choked sob that escaped you when they took his coat off and saw a blood soaked shirt underneath.
The paramedic cut the shirt off to reveal a wound that was still bleeding, the blood seemingly just pouring out. It looked like a piece of the rubble or something else that had fallen through when the ceiling had managed to practically slice him deeply from his stomach across to just above his hip.
“Is he gonna be ok?” You asked and the paramedic shot you a look before getting to work on cleaning and trying to stop the bleeding.
It was still bleeding when you got to the hospital.
They rushed him into surgery as soon as he was out of the ambulance and you followed him into the hospital, told to wait in the waiting room. You didn’t know what you were supposed to do so you did nothing, you stood where they had left you, people moving around you like you were nothing more than a ghost, only able to stand and stare at the doors Buck had been taken behind.
You had no idea how long you stood there, still as a statue with tears falling down your face, but eventually there was a hand on your shoulder. You still didn’t move but you at least registered when Bobby moved to stand in front of you, his own eyes teary but ever the leader he didn’t let them fall, not whilst his team needed him.
“Come on, there’s a room for us to wait in.” Bobby told you softly but you barely heard the words, they sounded like you were underwater, drowning in fear and panic and you could do nothing but wait and see if you’d sink or swim.
Bobby gently took your hand in his and you let him lead you through the halls of the hospital, paying no attention to your surroundings. The rest of the team were already in the room, looking up when you entered but you barely even saw them. Bobby just shook his head and led you to one of the seats, softly pushing you into it before taking the seat next to you.
You didn’t know how long you had sat there, staring ahead but not seeing anything, your thoughts racing, picturing a million and one different scenarios. There were so many things you wanted to say, needed to say. If something happened to Buck, if the worst case scenario happened and he didn’t know you loved him, it would haunt you for the rest of your life.
Bobby’s hand periodically squeezing yours in a gentle but firm grip was the only thing keeping you grounded to reality. Hours passed by without you noticing, no doctors had entered the private waiting room the team had been given. No news was good news though you supposed, it at least meant that Buck was still alive and that was all you could ask for right now.
Eventually though somebody did interrupt the silence, a tired looking doctor entered the room and everyone was immediately on their feet, not daring to breathe as they waited to hear the verdict.
“Mr Buckley made it through the surgery successfully,” the doctor told you all and there was a collective sigh of relief throughout the room, your hand squeezing Bobby’s tightly. “We were able to stop the bleeding and stitch up the wound on his stomach.”
“So he’s going to be ok?” Eddie asked and you felt your heart stop as the doctor was silent for a beat too long. “He’s gonna be ok, right?”
“The wound on the stomach won’t be an issue. It’s the head wound we’re worried about. After taking scans we can see swelling but won’t be able to determine how serious it is until Mr Buckley wakes up.” The doctor said and you felt a fresh wave of tears fill your eyes.
“And when will he wake up?” Bobby asked, glancing at you out of the corner of his eye  before focusing on the man.
“I can’t say for sure, it could be a matter of hours or it could be days.” The doctor informed you honestly and you took a shaky breath, speaking for the first time in hours.
“Can we see him?” You asked, voice cracking on the words and you felt Bobby’s thumb brush along your skin comfortingly.
“I’m afraid only one of you will be allowed in the room with him and visiting hours will be over in an hour.” The doctor said before giving the group directions to Buck’s room and excusing himself.
“Go on then, Y/N/N.” Eddie said, causing you to look over at him with a frown but before you could say anything he spoke again. “He’d want it to be you.”
You were silent for a few moments, looking around at the rest of the team who smiled and nodded at you and you suddenly felt a huge burst of love for these people who had become your family. When you turned to Bobby he smiled softly down at you before giving your hand one last squeeze and letting go.
“Thank you.” You managed to choke out before leaving the room and following the doctor's directions.
You had to pause outside of his room before you could enter, looking in through the window at Buck in the bed. He looked peaceful, he didn't look like he was in pain, paler than he should have been and a line of stitches trailing up into his hairline from his forehead.
You took another shaky breath before forcing your feet forward and into the room, sitting down on the edge of the only chair placed next to the bed and taking Buck’s hand in yours carefully.
“I don’t know if you can even hear me,” You said after a long beat of silence where you could only run your eyes across his features. “But if you can, I really need you to wake up, Buck, because I can’t lose you. You’re the best thing in my life and the thought of you not being here with me-”
You cut yourself of with a choked sob, leaning forward until your forehead rested against your joined hands. For so long it had been you and Buck, inseparable, the closest of friends, never seeing one without the other. Of course in your line of work it was always a possibility that something would happen but you tried to ignore it, until moments like this, until you couldn’t anymore. You knew full well you were all in with Buck, in it until the end, just like how you knew that if you hadn’t been able to get him out of that building before then you wouldn’t have left either.
“You have to come back to me because there’s so much I need to tell you, so much I should have already said but I couldn’t but we don’t know what’s gonna happen and we should take every chance we can to be happy, right? And it’s you Buck, it’s always been you who makes me happy. It’s always been you.” You told him, knowing he couldn’t hear you but still it felt good to say it out loud. “Because I love you, Buck. I knew from the moment I met you that one day it would be love.”
You didn’t say more than that, you couldn’t bring yourself to speak through the tears and quiet sobs. Time seemed to pass too quickly because before you knew it a nurse was knocking on the door, giving you a sympathetic smile as she told you visiting hours were over.
You nodded at her and stood up, wiping at your cheeks and ignoring the way more tears replaced them and instead leaned down to place a kiss to Buck’s cheek, letting yourself linger there for a few seconds before pulling away with a whispered goodbye. Once you left the room you only managed to get to the end of the hallway before your knees gave out and sobs wracked your body.
You never hit the floor though, strong arms wrapped around you and pulled you into a chest, fingers carding through your hair. You couldn’t make out what the voice was saying but you could feel the rumbles. You couldn’t see through the tears but that didn't matter, the arms felt safe and your hand came up to clutch at a shirt.
You didn’t remember moving but you felt yourself being sat down on a chair and brought deeper into a pair of arms. You couldn’t say how long you sat like that for before the sobs turned into shuddering breaths and the world started to come back to you.
“There you go, that’s it, just breathe.” The voice was saying and you pushed away from the chest when you recognised it as Bobby’s voice. “You’re ok, take it easy.”
“What are you still doing here?” You managed to choke out, voice hoarse from how much crying you’d done today.
“I wasn’t going to leave you alone. I already called Athena and told her I’d be staying with you tonight, you wouldn’t mind the company would you?” Bobby asked and again you felt so much love fill you because you had no doubt that if it wasn’t Bobby insisting on being her for you it would be one of the others.
“Thank you.” You told him sincerely, nodding your head whilst desperately trying to choke back more tears. “Seriously Bobby, thank you.”
“It’s what families are for.” Bobby shrugged like it was no big deal but both of you knew how meaningful it was, this team who had become a family, who loved each other so deeply meant everything.
Since you’d rode in the ambulance and Bobby had followed behind in the truck, Bobby ordered the two of you an Uber, waiting outside in the cool air for it to arrive. It wasn’t long before you were home, taking a shower because the smell of smoke and fire clung to your skin.
It felt wrong to be here when Buck was still at the hospital, he should be here with you, but there was nothing more you could do tonight. Tomorrow you’d be back at his side bright and early until you were forced to leave again but for right now you let Bobby gently push you onto the couch and press a warm mug into your hands.
It went on like that for days, you were at the hospital every day and Bobby sorted the time off for you back at the station. You didn’t think you could pull yourself back to work if you tried, the thought of doing the job without Buck at your side was unthinkable.
Bobby had taken to picking you up every night from the hospital, it was an unspoken arrangement, you just left Buck’s room and the man was always there waiting for you. Each night he took you to his and Athena’s, who welcomed you with open arms and a warm meal that they both made sure you ate, knowing full well you weren't eating at the hospital.
It was on the fifth day that things changed, two days after hearing doctors murmur about their concerns of Buck not waking up yet, five days of sitting at Buck’s side for hours on end, talking away about anything and everything just to fill the silence.
On the fifth day you entered Buck’s room the minute the hospital allowed visitors and took up your regular seat, taking his hand in yours before placing a soft kiss to the back of his. It was how you started every morning visit. The first few hours nothing happened and then just after twelve you heard a groan fall from Buck’s lips, your head snapping up at the noise.
You stared at Buck, wide eyed and not daring to blink as if it would ruin any chance of him waking up. It took a while but you watched as Buck’s face scrunched up before he swallowed heavily, tilting his head to the side and shifting to get comfortable before he finally managed to force his eyes open.
When he saw you you were already crying, silent tears trailing down your cheeks as you smiled at him in relief.
“What happened?” Buck managed to slur out before he started coughing with how dry his throat felt and you wasted no time pouring water into a cup and holding it to Buck’s lips. “Are you ok?”
You couldn’t help but laugh softly at the question, here Buck was finally waking up after five days of recovering, stitches on his head and stomach after being crushed by rubble and he was asking if you were ok.
God, you loved him.
“Are you ok?” You asked instead, watching as his lips twitched upwards. “Are you in pain? Should I get a doctor? I should definitely get a doctor.”
You went to stand but Buck stopped you, tightening his grip on your hand and keeping you in place. You turned back to face him and that’s when you saw it. It was the look, the one the others kept telling you about, the one with soft eyes filled with love and adoration, the one with a smile that to most people wouldn’t seem particularly special but if you knew what you were looking for you could see it was so important. It was the look and you were finally seeing it, you couldn’t convince yourself you were looking into it too much, couldn’t convince yourself your mind was playing tricks on you because it was right in front of you and it was beautiful.
“Don’t go.” Buck murmured, his voice hoarse and not able to go above a whisper but you heard the plea clearly anyway. “Just…just stay with me.”
“Nowhere else I’d rather be.” You told him honestly, squeezing his hand and not able to look away from his face.
Eventually you were able to snap yourself out of trance you regularly seemed to get lost in around Buck, long enough so that you could fill him in on what had happened and how long he’d be out of it. As you spoke Buck never lost that soft look, never once let his eyes wander away from you and it took all your strength to bite your tongue and not tell Buck how you felt.
Until you realised that you didn’t have to do that anymore. You had promised yourself you’d tell Buck and maybe half an hour after he’d woken up from a five day slumber wasn’t the best time but suddenly you felt the overwhelming urge to do it, feeling like you couldn’t wait another day.
“What’s wrong?” Buck asked, his attention solely on you so he noticed the shift in your features, the slight crease in between your eyebrows, the way your head tilted as you looked at him but your mind was clearly somewhere else.
“I thought you were gonna die.” You forced out around the sudden lump in your throat, frown deepening because those weren’t the words you meant to say. “I thought you were gonna die and I was so scared. Once that rubble came down so did so many regrets, so many things I wanted to tell you but I was too scared to but then you were gone and I needed you to know them because you couldn’t die without knowing.”
“Knowing what?” Buck asked softly, already guessing where this was going, already feeling warmth spreading through his chest at the chance that you felt the same way he had, that he hadn’t been pining alone.
“Without knowing that seeing you is the highlight of my day, without knowing that any day I let pass without talking to you, it just isn’t a good day. Without knowing how deeply I care about you, without knowing that I trust you more than anyone, that I’d follow you wherever you went. You were lying here and I didn’t know if you were going to wake up and the one thing above everything that I needed you to know is that I am so in love with you.” You told him, not taking your eyes off him and watching his face soften even more if it were possible, watching as his eyes watered slightly but he managed to keep any tears from falling.
“Y/N,” he breathed out, unable to say anything for a moment but you weren’t worried, you didn’t take it as a bad sign, you couldn’t, not now that you’d seen that look.
You had to curse yourself slightly because how had you missed that look, it had been years of Buck looking at you like that and you’d missed it. If you had seen that look so long ago any questions regarding Buck’s feelings for you would have been an open-shut case, you would have known from the look on his face that he wanted you as much as you wanted him.
“I’ve wanted to hear that for so long, wanted to tell you that for so long because it’s true, I love you more than I thought I could love anyone. For so long I didn’t think I was capable of loving somebody like I love you, I thought I was too messed up from everything. But then I met you and, Y/N/N I knew from the moment I met you that you were going to be so important. I should have told you years ago but I couldn’t see how somebody like you could feel the same way. But I love you, Y/N, I love you so, so much.” Buck told you, the two of you smiling at each other with matching grins, so happy it was almost too much but you both basked in the feeling.
And everyone was right, nothing changed when the two of you started dating. You came into work together and left together, you stayed over at each other's places until you had found yourself all but moved into Buck’s place already and it just became second nature to call his place home. The only difference was now there were no secret feelings, no wishful, longing glances. Now you could say that’s my man and Buck could take your hand in his, now you kissed Buck whenever you wanted just because you could and neither of you took a day together for granted, not when you had spent so many years pining where you could have been together so now you made sure to savour each day.

The bulky planner that had become a staple on your kitchen island would be retiring to a storage bucket. It had served its purpose and would become a momentum of this big step in your relationship. Wedding planning was stressful when your fiancé was a firefighter.
Your hand glided over the material of your wedding dress. Tailored perfectly to your body and the dream dress when you thought of walking down the aisle. You were incredibly excited to get the dress professionally cleaned and stored away.
You also were excited for the two-week honeymoon Buck had planned to relax after months of intense planning. Buck had been tight-lipped about the honeymoon itinerary other than letting you know it was in Bali. However, he’d gotten discounts after having lived and worked there shortly.
“You’re gonna be gorgeous.” Your eyes lifted from the dress to Athena standing at the entrance. You knew from the beginning you wanted her to be part of getting ready for the day, partially because of how calm and levelheaded she was.
“I hope so.” You murmured, stepping across the room barefoot to hug her tight, “It took a lot of planning. Buck and I didn’t get to spend much time together with him working and all the appointments for planning.”
“At least Taylor’s photographer friend agreed to a discount.” Athena nodded, “Which reminds me, I need to make sure May’s got the Polaroids ready to go.”
You grinned, “I have to meet Taylor with the photographer, and then it’s officially time to begin the process of that dress.”
Taylor Kelly had been the roommate of a friend from college, and when your friend had to drop out unexpectedly, you’d asked Taylor. She’s been a great help in keeping track of everything, and you considered her a close friend; she’d joined game nights with Buck, Albert and Josh. She was a good friend and support to both Buck and you. Had even been your shoulder to cry on when communication had suffered in your relationship with Buck. Had offered sage advice.
The sound of the wedding march you hummed brought a smirk to your lips on the trip to the meeting room. Finally, you had time before your aunt and uncle arrived from San Diego for the wedding. Beau had juggled work around at the naval base to make it in time to walk you down the aisle. Not that they would miss this for the world with how deeply involved they were in your life.
“-married Buck. She’s my friend!” Taylor’s voice snapped through the crack of the door. Your hand hesitated in pushing it, “I can’t believe we’ve done this.”
“We’ve been-“
“Having communication problems? I’m aware of that, Buckley. I’m a bridesmaid in your fucking wedding. Sure, we haven’t slept together, but arguably we’ve done worse!”
“It’s not an affair.” Buck was firm in his response, and you could just imagine the crinkle in the skin between his eyebrows as he said that.
 “Look up an emotional affair.”
It was silent for a moment other than the sound of Buck tapping away on his phone, “Okay, well, we’ll just stop or take time away to get over- “
Your heart shattered because even in the face of his wrongdoing Buck still wanted her in his life long-term. Your mind slingshot through the last year with how distant he had gotten and how Taylor behaved when you brought him up. She sidestepped the conversation when it came to her love life.
“That’s the thing, Buck. I don’t want to. I don’t want you waiting at the end of the aisle, and maybe that makes me the biggest bitch.”
You didn’t comprehend shoving the door open to reveal the two of them standing so close together, “Absolutely hilarious. The groom is being seduced by the bridesmaid! Tell her she’s delusional. That you wouldn’t waste thousands of dollars and peoples time for a selfish bitch looking to stomp on anyone for a news story.”
Your eyes focused on your fiancé. His blue eyes struggle to stay on your form.
“I can’t.” Buck quietly responded, shrinking in on himself, “I love her too.”
In the crisp morning air flowing in from the open French doors your heart audibly and cruelly shattered. Your soul shrivelled up, and you stumbled back, unable to look away from the wreckage of your relationship. Sure, Buck had always been immature and cowardly indecisive, but a cheater? You’d never expected that.
It took everything in you to tug the ring from your finger, “Fine. But you can march out to the room full of guests and tell them the wedding is off. That you decided that the redhead skank that took advantage of the 118 for a story is the reason you threw away a life with someone you love.”
You could read devastation in his eyes, but at the core of it, Evan Buckley, staunchly and often at the risk of self-destruction, yearned for respect and acceptance. And who was firmly in the centre of that? Bobby Nash.
“Bobby is going to be disgusted by your actions. And thank god we used your credit card, and everything is non-refundable.” You sweetly told your very much now ex-fiancé and turned to the bitch, “You seemed like such a pretty and smart woman Taylor, but your mind does not seem to work well. Must be lonely being the type of person you are to make games of destroying relationships.”
You had even fully turned on your feel when your eyes caught the group of surprised people just outside the French doors. Your lips quirked, noticing Hen and Karen’s son had been very obviously recording the scene.
“Enjoy the food and the open door on Buck and Taylor! But, unfortunately, I have a wedding dress to burn and an emergency appointment for STD testing.”
You strode through the crowd finding Athena holding up the duffle bag of your things, “I thought it was best I grab this and keep Buckley from attempting to stop you.”
“Thank you, Athena.” You murmured, squeezing her arm on your way to where your Aunt Lizzie and Uncle Beau were waiting. You heard the whispers of people as Buck attempted to move through the crowd.
The wall of firefighters kept him from making it to the car pulling from the curb. The moment the car turned the corner, the strong front you’d had splintered in the arms of your aunt.

You hadn’t stepped in Los Angeles since the day your life fell apart, all thanks to a two-faced bitch and weak fiancé. You cut off contact with the friends you’d made with Buck and build a new life. You had changed your phone number, blocked Buck on everything and removed a lot of people from your social media.
You knew through the grapevine the short-lived relationship with Taylor had ended. May had mentioned roughly the last time you spoke to her a year ago that Taylor had reported on a story Buck had confided her on.
Your response to her was indifferent to the breakup news, and you only asked if Hen and Chim were okay. You refused to answer any personal questions and hesitantly agreed to consider having May visit during the summer.
You had worked hard with a therapist to navigate grieving for the life you had thought you’d have with Buck. You’d slowly put yourself back with the support of your family. And what you attested to be kismet stumbled into someone a year after settling into Miramar.
You huffed, stumbling into a solid form and scrunched your eyes closed, waiting to hit the deck, but it didn’t come. Cautiously your eyes opened to meet the jade-green ones of a lieutenant aviator going off from the gold wings pinned to his shirt.
“Whoa. Sorry there.” The husky voice caused the breath to catch in the back of your throat. You could hear the subtle but unmistakable drawl of a Southern accent.
“It’s okay.” You softly murmured, releasing your grip on his arms when he levelled you back on your feet, “I wasn’t looking where I was going.”
“Jake.” The stranger offered both his name and hand. His grip was firm but not suffocating as he shook your hand, “Can I help you?”
“My uncle Beau forgot his phone at home. So I was sent with it. I was barely walking the last time I was here.”
It took a while for Jake to wear both you and Beau down to take you out on a date, and the rest is what they call history. He was everything you wanted and weren’t looking for. His emotional maturity was astounding, and his firm expectancy of honesty and talking things through was welcomed.
Honestly, it was the healthiest relationship you’d ever been in.
So it wasn’t a surprise when a year later, you’d gotten engaged and moved in together. Being with Jake was easy, and it wasn’t just because of how steady and solid he was, like the Allegheny River you visited not that long ago. You adored everything about him. From the old hand-me-down Bible, his grandpa gave him the day he got the Naval Academy acceptance letter to his weekly phone call with his parents.
You were ever grateful for how supportive Jake was when he cleared his schedule to join you in LA when Eddie invited you. Usually, you would have said no to your old friend, but he’d gotten crafty by having Chris ask you.
“You got this,” Jake murmured against your temple. Then, like it was second nature, you guided Jake around the house’s side to the backyard’s open gate.
The entire area was flooded with friends and family of the Diaz duo. You could see every one of the 118 and felt more than saw Chris slam into you.
“You’re here!” Chris beamed as you pushed one of his curls off his forehead, “I didn’t think you’d come!”
“And miss watching your dad’s existential crisis at you becoming a teenager? Never.” You joked, kissing his head, “Chris, I’d like you to meet Jake and Ellie.”
Chris’s inquisitive eyes moved to the tall stranger standing with one hand on your lower back and the infant cradled on his chest. Chris had a feeling that Buck’s plan would burst into flames with how close you and this Jake guy were standing.
“Oh,” Chris murmured, looking over his shoulder to where Buck was chatting with Maddie and Chim.
Your smile softened at the blue tone, “I know it’s weird that I left LA after being with Buck and came back with someone new. I get that and take all the time you need, but you are still important to me, Christopher.”
Athena quickly snagged you from Jake’s side and dragged you to Hen and Karen beaming at you. Jake had already fallen into a conversation with Eddie about everything to do with Texas. You had a feeling football would be brought up.
“I’d ask who he is, but I feel he’s not just a friend.” Buck had taken the first opportunity to approach you. You’d volunteered to get more napkins from the kitchen, and Buck had used a flimsy excuse.
“Hello, Evan.” You declared from behind the open cabinet door to the cupboard above the stove. Your eyes caught the blue napkins of Chris’ favourite show at the moment.
“How’re you?”
You leaned back from the coverage of the cabinet to stare at him, stumped at his sudden question.
“Are you expecting me to burst out in song and dance to confess some sort of undying love for you?” You inquired, looking between his blue irises that made you uncomfortable with their evident love, “Because Buck. I don’t love you. I don’t even hate you, to be honest. I’ve moved past what happened.”
Buck couldn’t help but perk up when you admitted to not hating him like he had anticipated. He glossed over the part of your words, saying you didn’t have feelings for him because that tiny little hope fanned.
“If I had to put a name to what I feel when the odd time you’re brought up, it would be indifference. I have more important things now.” You informed your ex-fiancé with a perfectly timed movement to close the cabinet. It revealed the new ring sitting where the one he gave you used to sit.
Buck’s stomach dropped.
“Sweets?” Jake called as he entered the room. He barely gave Buck a glance because what did it matter? Jake had no reason to feel threatened by him, “Ellie-belly here is down for the count. We should head for the hotel and rest before we fly out.”
“My sweet girl.” You cooed leaning into the baby cradled on Jake’s hip to kiss her chubby cheek, “We’ll say our rounds and give Chris his present.”
You shot Buck a smile on your way back out to Eddie’s backyard to find the birthday boy in the mass. Jake split off back to Eddie while you made the rounds to the people you used to see almost every day. Your eyes fluttered back to him, listening to Eddie and cooing at your daughter.
“You look happy, Kid,” Bobby spoke upon joining Athena. His words brought your attention back to him, “You look at him like he hung the moon. And he looks like you did the same for him.”
Your lips quirked, “You say he hung the moon, but Bobby, I’d say he hung the galaxy.”
“I couldn’t help but notice the bling.” Karen grinned, gesturing to the ring on your finger, “When did that happen?”
“A little over a year ago. We were in the middle of planning when Ellie came around, so we’re having a small wedding in Jake’s hometown. We fly out from LAX tomorrow. So you should all come down to San Diego for the party our friends are throwing us.”
With a hug from Athena and Bobby and a long one with Chris, you leaned against the car door as Jake carefully juggled your daughter into her car seat. It was quiet. It was peaceful. It was perfect.

A/N: I can't... he's so fucking adorable.
Part 2 Here
Third Person POV
It’s Monday and the LAFD 118 team has been called to a two story house fire and said house is beginning to collapse. Buck and Eddie jog away from it toward the engine to assist in putting out the rest of the fire, having rescued the residents and left them with Hen and Chim. As they approach Bobby, his gaze is cast beind them, “Where is (Y/N)?” he asks looking back to Buck and Eddie. The two look behind them and then back at each other before Buck takes off sprinting back toward the house even as the roof caves.
Bobby makes eye contact with Eddie who is already backing away, “Way ahead of you.” Eddie swiftly catches up with Buck as they both dodge a falling rafter.
“(Y/N)!” Buck yells, fear evident in his voice. Together the two yell for their teammate as they carefully pick through the flames around them. After what feels like ages, but is only a couple of minutes, Eddie slaps his friend on the shoulder. Pulling him to a stop, he motions for Buck to stop yelling. Barely audible over the flames, a chorus of meows is heard.
The two look to each other once again. “Don’t tell me she went back for cats,” Eddie mumbles, shocked.
Buck sighs and begins moving toward the sound, “This is (Y/N) we’re talking about. Of course she did.”
Finally, they find (Y/N) lying in the corner of whats supposed to be the kitchen. A rafter seems to have swept her off of her feet and is now lying across her ribcage. The area is mostly clear of flames and lying just to the side of (Y/N), as if she had dropped it when she was crushed, is an upturned nylon basket which is the source of the meows. “Help me with this rafter,” Buck urges as he moves towards (Y/N). Together the two lift the rafter off of her and toss it aside. Buck bends down and carefully lifts (Y/N) into his arms and begins heading for an exit. Eddie retrieves the basket of cats and follows.
By now, the flames have been subdued and only small flickers are seen scattered across the now demolished building. Buck shakes (Y/N) softly and she begins to wake up. She looks up at him in slight confusion before looking around her. “Wait, wait,” she mumbles, “Put me down, please.” Unwillingly, Buck does so to avoid an elbow or knee to his ribs.
(Y/N)’s POV
I stop Eddie as he catches up to us and retrieve the basket of cats from him. I look inside to make sure all three kittens and their mother are accounted for and at least breathing before I turn back around to find their owner. I spot the little girl with Hen and her parents and beline toward them. My legs attempt to give out from under me as my ribs and head throb in pain but I need to do this. I pull my helmet off, tossing it to the ground and stop in front of the little girl. Holding out the basket to her, I offer a small smile. “Oh! Thank you so much! You shouldn’t have!” her mother gasps as she realizes what is inside the soot covered basket.
“I don’t know what I would do if I lost one of my fur babies. I wanted to,” I lean closer to the mother as the little girl takes the basket, exploding with joy. “For her sake,” I whisper to the mother and father.
Mom pulls me into a tight hug, which makes my ribs riot but I ignore them. She pulls away and places her palm against my cheek, “Thank you so much, honey. You just made this whole ordeal a little better for her.”
I offer another smile, “Don’t thank me yet. They’ll need a vet visit asap and,” I lower my voice, “I tried to keep them covered as much as possible with my coat but they got a good bit of smoke exposure. They seem okay now but I’m not sure about the long term affects,” I pause, “If you catch my drift.”
The father nods, “We understand but regardless, thank you.”
I smile to both of them before kneeling in front of the little girl who has busied herself with brushing the soot off the still meowing cat and kittens, “You take real good care of them okay?” She nods eagerly as she sets the basket aside and hops down from the gurney. She wraps her small arms around my neck in a tight hug and mumbles a thank you into my shoulder. “You are very welcome, Sweetie.”
The little girl lets go and returns to her basket of fluff so I stand and turn around to see Buck waiting a few feet away. He does not look happy and I know I’ll get an earful later. I make my way toward him, and looking back at the little girl with her basket of cats I decide, “It was worth it,” I state firmly to Buck as he meets me and wraps his arms around my shoulders to guide me to the other side of the firetruck out of sight of the family. As soon as we round the corner of the truck, my legs give and Buck has to catch me to keep me from faceplanting the pavement.
He picks me up once more before setting me on the side of the truck. He brushes my hair out of my face, “You’re going to give me an aneurysm one of these days.” Bobby, Hen, and Eddie join us before I can muster up a response. By now my ribs feel like their about to collapse inwards and my head is trying to explode. A bout of diziness nearly takes me down again but I lean into Buck who has collected a handful of alcohol prep pads to clean the soot off my face and taken a seat beside me.
“What’s the damage?” Bobby asks as I do my best to follow the penlight Hen is moving back and forth in my eyes.
“Definitely a concussion,” she respondes, “Let’s see those ribs.” I suppose Eddie must’ve reported back to them alerting them to my injuries plus he’s pulling an oxygen mask over my face.
Bobby nods and holds up my helmet, “Well, that’s not surprising.” I now notice the crack across the visor and cringe. I struggle with my turn out for a moment before Buck slaps my hands away and helps me out of it. I lift my shirt to reveal already bruising ribs.
Hen gently feels across my ribs and presses a stethescope over my lungs. I take a deep breath in as Hen speaks again, “I don’t think they’re broken but definitely heavily bruised.” She pulls the stethescope away and places it back in her kit before taking a step back to look at me, “I know it’ll be your biggest nightmare but you’re gonna have to take it real easy for the next few weeks.”
Buck hooks a finger under my chin and pulls me to face him as I groan. “I know. I know. You’ll live. Now let me get the rest of this mess off so we can bandage these cuts.” Eddie and Bobby depart as I attempt to sit still for Buck but I keep fidgeting and adjusting in an effort to ease the pain in my ribs.
Hen laughs but states seriously, “You’re gonna need a CT scan to check for brain bleeds and some X-rays to make sure your ribs aren’t broken and to check for skull fractures.”
“I know,” I mumble as she passes Buck some band-aids before closing her kit and returning to the other side of the truck. Buck finishes cleaning my face and begins fighting with the wrapper of a band-aid. His hands are shaking so bad he almost drops it several times before I finally wrap my hands around his and look up at him, “Just breathe, Buck. I’m alive,” I pause, “Very banged up but alive.”
His lips press into a thin line and he breaks eye contact to look down at our hands. He lets me have the band-aids so I open one of them before handing it to him for application. As he places it right below my hair line, eyes trained on it and not looking at mine, he mutters something under his breath. I wait for him to place the band-aid and smooth it down before tilting my head, confusion plain to see on my face. He sighs heavily, “I said you scared the shit out of me.” Finally making eye contact with me again he adds, “I can’t lose you. You mean too damn much to me.”
I wrap him in a hug, which he promptly returns, and mumble, “I’m sorry.” He buries his face in my neck as I bury mine in his chest and we stay that way for a long moment before finally returning to the task at hand. I open another band-aid and hand it over for him to place on my cheek below the other. “I just figure that the house burning down is pretty shitty but to lose the cats too would be even worse. I know I would’ve been devasted to lose mine,” I explain and he nods in understanding. Once he’s satisfied with my treatment, we both make our way to join the others, Buck keeping an arm at my back in case I start to collapse again.
Soon, we all depart and return to the Fire House. I’m carted off to the ER to get a CT scan and X-rays as doc ordered. As expected the results confirm a concussion but no brain bleeds, skull fractures, or broken ribs.
Finally the weekend is here and I am spending my Saturday night at Maddie and Chim’s house with Maddie, Athena, Hen, and Karen. By now my concussion is gone for the most part but my ribs are still pretty sore. My fellow ladies are all taking it easy, having a beer or glass of wine. I on the other hand have managed to get sloshed even though they have repeatedly warned me to slow down. Who knows what trouble Buck and Eddie are getting into tonight but Chim is at Bobby and Athena’s house with Jee-Yun for cooking lessons.
I’m currently sprawled out on my back in Maddie’s living room floor babbling on and on. Most of it is drunken non-sense but soon I find myself on a train of thought that I’m not quite sure I should be voicing aloud but drunk me has lost all fucks to give. As soon as the first sentence stumbles out of my mouth, “You know who I really really like?” the ladies are all on the edges of their seats. Hen has even pulled out her phone and started recording but I couldn’t care less. I need to get this off my chest and it’s about fucking time. I might as well carry on while I have the guts. “Buck,” I pause trying but failing to collect my thoughts and decide to simply ramble on as the room wobbles, “He’s just so fucking sweet. He’s got the largest and shiniest heart of gold I’ve ever seen. He’s hilarious as fuck... And adorable... And fine as hell... He makes me feel safe... and happy... and giddy.”
I sit up abruptly and wobble slightly before looking at the nearest person, who just happens to be Maddie, “And I don’t know what the hell the whole knee nudge thing is that he does,” I point to Hen, “You know what I’m talking about. That thing he does whenever he’s sitting beside me where he just like nudges my knee with his,” The room starts to spin so I lay back down and look up at the ceiling, “I-I don’t know what that is. I don’t know if he does it as a funny funny ha ha. Or if he does it to aggravate me. Which it did at first because I couldn’t figure out why he was doing it but I finally gave up and just started nudging back. But anyway, I don’t know why he does it but I hope he never stops... It always reminds me that he’s right there... It reminds me that I’m not alone, that someone will have my back if I’m about to do stupid shit or be there if I need a shoulder to lean on. It makes me feel safe.” I come to a halt and shuffle through the thoughts in my head.
“And another fucking thing. His fucking biceps, dude. They’re damn near as big as my head. Sometimes I just wanna,” I click my teeth together, “bite them. Actually, next time he hits me with the ‘Bite me, (Y/L/N)’... I’ma do it.” I stop to catch my breath and a sudden realization hits me, “I think I fucked up,” I slur out.
“Yeah, honey, you’re pretty wasted,” Athen says with laughter.
“No. No I said I fucked up,” I correct her, assuming she thought I said, “I think I’m fucked up.”
“You mean by drinking so much,” Hen asks,” Yeah, probably so.”
I see Maddie shake her head with a grin out of the corner of my eye and I inquire, “What?”
“Elaborate. They haven’t put two and two together yet,” she replies.
I huff, “I said, ‘I think I fucked up’ because I told myself I was not gonna fall in love again because my luck with relationships is so damn shitty but I think I done fell in love with him and I’m scared.”
“Why are you scared, sweetheart,” Karen asks.
“Because I don’t wanna get hurt again,” I mumble before quickly adding, “It’s not that I think he’s gonna hurt me. It’s just... conditioning ya know? Like, anytime things are going good for a while, my body kicks into fight or flight thinking something bad is about to happen because that’s always what happens. I always get steamrolled and knocked down a peg. I don’t wanna rope him into the shit show that is my life. He deserves someone that has their shit together. Someone who can give him the world. That’s what he deserves... not someone who’s gonna expect shit to go south from the start.” The room is silent as this explanation sinks in.
I hear the beep of Hen stopping the recording as Maddie gets up from the couch and bends down to grab my arm and help me up, “Let’s get you to bed okay?” I nod as she guides me toward a spare bedroom.
Buck’s POV
“How’s (Y/N) doing?” I hear Eddie ask from the kitchen as I sit sipping my whiskey. Chris has already gone to bed for the night and Eddie is putting away leftovers from dinner.
Having not fully processed what he asked due to the alcohol coursing through my bloodstream I drop my head onto the back of the chair I’m sitting in and grin, “She’s just so beautiful.”
Eddie pokes his head around the wall and looks at me in confusion, “What?’
“You asked about (Y/N). She’s pretty... and smart... She’s funny too.”
Eddie waves his hand to interupt me and sits down on the couch across from me, pulling out his phone, “Hang on what were you saying about (Y/N) I couldn’t hear you through your mumbles.”
I know damn well I wasn’t mumbling but repeat myself anyway, “I said, ‘She’s pretty and smart and funny,’” making sure to over-annunciate my words.
“Go on,” Eddie encourages, grinning at his phone.
I shake my head and carry on, “She’s always down for an adventure. She’s self-less. Like, as much as I want to be mad at her for risking her life to save those cats the other day, I can’t be because I know I’d do the same damn thing. She’d risk her life just to make sure someone elses doens’t end or is a little brighter despite the catastrophe they’ve just endured.” I sigh loudly, “I could watch her dance around like a goof ball or ramble about random shit for hours. Her smile makes me smile. Her laugh makes me laugh.”
“Really?” Eddie asks to keep me going.
I nod, “And you know how I nudge her knee with mine all the time?” Eddie nods, “It started out as just a way to annoy her when I was bored but now it’s way more than that. Now it’s a gentle reminder to her that I’m still right there by her side but also a reminder to myself that she’s right there within arms reach. I-I don’t know what I’d do if I lost her. I thought I did when I looked behind us and she wasn’t there. If I had lost her that day then not only would I no longer be able to enjoy her presence but i-it would’ve been my fault. I should’ve pulled up the rear and made sure she got out safe.”
“Don’t blame yourself, Buck. You know she would’ve went back for the cats anyway,” Eddie comments.
“I know but like I said that’s one of the things I love about her,” I pause, “Love. Did I just say love?” Eddie nods, “Man, I think I’m in love.” It’s quiet for a few moments before I breath out a laugh, “She has a really nice ass too.”
Eddie shakes his head and puts his phone away, “Alright buddy,” he says as he gets up and pulls the glass of whiskey from my grasp, “Time for you to hit the hay.” I begrudgingly get up and Eddie helps me to the couch.
“Wait,” I slur out once I’ve plopped onto the couch, and try to get back up but Eddie pushes me back down, “But I wanna go see her,” I whine but as the room wobbles I give up and lie back down.
“You can see her tomorrow. We’re having family breakfast at Athena and Bobby’s remember?” Eddie responds.
“Oh yeah,” I mumble before drifting off to sleep.

Spend The Night *ED*
Tumblr media
REQUESTED : Yes - @captainamericasmotercycle ; "could you do a cute, fluffy story with eddie diaz and prompt 3 please?"
PROMPT(S) : 3 - "Sleep at my place tonight."
---
"Can you keep it down in there?!" You yelled through your bedroom wall as you pounded your fist against it.
Your neighbor had been no a binge with his friends, or should you say bandmates. They've been practicing since 10 that morning and it was now 7:30 at night.
Your boyfriend, Eddie, was due at your place at any moment to spend his off weekend with you while Christopher was with Buck. As you plopped yourself back on your bed, your phone rang, a picture of you and Eddie popping up on the screen.
"Hey, Eds." You smiled softly, even though he couldn't see you.
"Hey, my love. There's been a change of plans." Eddie spoke calmly.
"Oh?" You hummed, sitting up on your bed.
"Yeah, Buck decided to go on a random date tonight. So, Chris will be home tonight." Eddie spoke, you could hear Chris in the background laughing.
"Oh. Well, that's okay. We always have your next weekend off." You smiled softly.
"Or.., " Eddie dragged out, "Sleep at my place." You could hear the smirk in his voice.
"I can do that." You smiled to yourself. "Let me pack a bag and I'll be there soon."
"Alright, bye my love." Eddie spoke before hanging up.
You quickly threw together a bag of clothes and everything you'd need for your weekend with your favorite boys.
Soon you were pulling up to Eddie's house and knocking on the door.
You smiled as Eddie opened the door.
"I'm ready for my sleepover with my favorite boys!" You laughed softly, holding your bag up.
Eddie laughed softly as he pulled you into a kiss.
"Well then lets get this party started." He chuckled, leading you into the house.

Tumblr media
It started with a phone call.
It had been a typical day for the 118. The sun was shining, the calls were coming in... normal. Eddie had dropped Christopher off with you in the morning since he wasn't in school, and then went to pick Buck up for work.
You'd been in LA for the past year, moving out to join your brother and when a transfer came up at work. It was your day off, so you'd been more than happy to take Chris when Eddie asked.
Hen and Chim had been called away during overhaul as they'd finished up another call. Some kind of shooting, they'd heard, and 118's ambulance was the closest. Bobby let them go as the others packed up to return to the station. That's when the call came in.
"Hey," Bobby answered his phone to his wife, pausing as he loaded the truck back up. Buck and Eddie continued with their tasks until they saw Bobby's face fall, Buck tapping Eddie's shoulder to where their Captain was standing, face stricken with concern as he glanced in their direction.
"Everything okay Cap?" Eddie asked, abandoning his job as they approached.
"You seem worried," Buck added, worry in his own voice.
"That was Athena," Bobby started, "you know that call Hen and Chim were called to a little bit ago?"
Both men nodded, wondering what this had to do with them.
"Well, it turns out that the car that was caught in the crossfire of the shootout... was Y/N's," Bobby said, looking to Eddie as his face fell, his breath catching in his throat.
"Is-" Buck tried to ask, Eddie too shocked by the news to form words.
"Chris is fine," Bobby said quickly, "Hen is with him at the hospital, but Y/N... she was hit twice, one in the chest, one in the shoulder- shielding Christopher. She's in surgery now, but it's critical."
Eddie had gone white, shaking. His baby sister, not his baby sister...
"Cap-" He began, kicking himself into gear. He had to get to the hospital, now.
"Go, both of you, I'll find cover for you hear," he ordered, Buck and Eddie nodding to each other before taking off as fast as they could.
It wasn't a long drive, but if felt like it.
On the way, Buck drove in silence, Eddie next to him trying to hold it together.
"It'll be okay," Buck said, but he didn't know whether he was trying to reassure Eddie or himself.
The truth was, since you'd moved to LA, he found himself falling more and more in love with you. You'd been there for him through his break up with Taylor, helped him process his feelings for Abby... and somewhere along the way, you'd entered his heart. He hadn't realised how much until he realised he may never get to tell you.
He thought back to when Abby had first returned, with someone else without a word. Afterwards, you'd stayed up all night with him eating ice cream and watching bad movies. You hadn't even known her, but you knew him, and you'd been there for him.
When he'd had a bad call and Taylor was working late, you'd been who he called to talk to without even thinking about it; you'd stayed on the phone with him for hours until one of you had fallen asleep, though you both disagreed as to who had fallen asleep first... He probably had, but he'd never admit it.
Or the day after he'd split with Taylor. It might have been his decision, but he'd still been feeling down about it. You'd noticed, and you and Chris had taken him out for the day to take his mind off of her. A server had told you both you made a good couple, and you had a lucky son, and while he'd smiled and you'd laughed, he'd never told you exactly how that had made him feel, or what it had made him realise.
Would he ever get the chance?
They got to the hospital, spotting Chim and Hen almost instantly as they signalled them over. Athena was there too, an arm around a shaken Christopher's shoulders.
"Dad!" He yelled, jumping up from his seat and rushing into Eddie's arms as he met him half way.
Chris had clearly been crying, he was shaking and there was blood on his clothes. Your blood.
"He wouldn't change or clean up until you were here," Athena said, wandering over to where Eddie was making sure Chris was okay, "in case something happened to Y/N while he was gone."
"We need to get you cleaned up buddy," Eddie told him, clearly conflicted about also leaving in case something happened to you.
"She's stable for now and in good hands," Hen informed him, trying to give him some reassurance.
"I'll wait for any news," Buck promised, and Eddie eventually nodded, leading Christopher somewhere else to get changed as Buck took a seat in the waiting area.
Athena sat next to him when he slumped down, a knowing look on her face. "You good?"
Buck didn't really know how to reply. "I just... feel like everyone leaves, you know?"
"Buck," Athena put a hand on his shoulder, causing him to look up from where he had rested his chin on his clasped hands. "I'm not an idiot."
"Is it that obvious?" He asked, sounding a little defeated but also relieved that someone else knew.
"That you have feelings for Y/N? I sussed it out," she replied with a small smile and a wink.
Buck ran a hand over his head and sighed, "I wish I'd said something, but I didn't want to overstep with Eddie, you know? Now she might not make it and-"
"Got a thing for my sister, huh?" Said a voice from behind them, causing Buck's head to snap back to see Eddie and Chris.
"Oooh la la," Chris grinned, cleaned up and clearly feeling more himself.
"Eddie-" Buck went to try and defend himself, but Eddie had more to say.
"Is it serious?" He asked, big brother mode activated.
"My feelings?" Buck checked, and Eddie nodded seriously.
"Very," Buck said sincerely, all his best friend needed before he smiled.
"If she- when she gets through this, she's going to need support," Eddie explained, knowing it would be a long road to recovery.
"I'm always going to be there for her, you know that, I-" Buck stopped himself before the words slipped out, but Eddie heard them.
"Love her?" Somehow, that didn't surprise him.
"You knew?" Buck looked confused, thinking he'd been so careful.
"I suspected," Eddie shrugged, taking a seat next to Chris.
"Why didn't you say anything?" Buck had been worried about how Eddie might react, but it hadn't occurred to him that he might have already figured it out.
"I wasn't 100% sure," Eddie told him honestly, "I needed to hear it from you."
"She feels the same way," Chris added, grinning.
"Chris," Eddie warned, ruffling his son's hair with a laugh, "but he isn't wrong though, she does. She'd kill me for telling you that but..."
Buck sighed with relief, glad you felt the same but annoyed at himself for not saying something sooner.
The doctor came out then, and everyone stood, waiting with baited breath.
"You can say what you need to in front of everyone," Eddie told the doctor, who nodded and addressed the group.
"She's going to be okay," sighs of relief all around, Buck clasped Eddie's shoulder as he nearly fell back into his seat.
Buck helped him sit and sat down himself, not hearing much else of what the doctor was telling Eddie. You were going to be okay.
He made a promise, then and there, to tell you when you'd recovered.
He didn't want to waste another moment.

you were grateful for days like these, where the sun shone brightly against the material of your curtains. the sound of light snoring beside you making a smile tug at the corners of your lips.
looking over to find a very asleep evan, half of his face smooshed into the pillow he laid on.
there weren't many times you actually get to see him this relaxed, only when he slept or when he was just simply in your company.
as much as he was your big strong boyfriend, he reminded you more of a golden retriever.
you took this time that you had to trace over his features with your fingertips. starting by lightly running your fingers through his unkempt hair then making your way over to his cheeks.
your thumbs gently brushing against the skin, going over a few faded scars in the process, moving over his prominent smile lines.
ugh if there was anything you loved the most it was this mans smile, it was so contagious and when you're the one to make him smile? oh god, you felt like you were going to turn into a puddle right then and there.
you had decided you had done enough admiring and it was time for him to wake up, so you did what you do best and attacked him with tiny little kisses all over his face, starting with his forehead, then his nose, to his cheeks and lastly next to his lips.
"buck..." you whispered close to his ear, he groaned at the loss of contact, but smiled when he heard your voice but still didn't open his eyes.
"why'd you stop? i was enjoying that," he whined as he stretched, making you laugh. quickly giving into his request by lightly stroking up and down his arm, making him sigh happily.
finally opening his eyes looking at you, "hi baby,"
"hi hon, how'd you sleep?"
"really good except the fact that i was literally melting last night since we're both always so warm, but i didn't want to let go of you, you're so comfy."
he looped the arm that wasn't underneath his pillow around you, bringing you even closer to him, if that was even possible. so you were now truly sandwiched between evan and the bed.
you loved the days the two of you both had off work, since it meant that you didn't have to leave the bed. just lay there wrapped up in each others arms, kissing and doing other very...productive activities too.
lifting your hand back on his cheek as you looked at his face, your thumb once again finding itself caressing your lovers cheek stopping as you leaned in, pressing a soft peck to his lips.
a grin stretching on his own as you pulled away only far enough to dip your face into the crook of his neck.
"i really love you, buck."
"i love you too sweetheart."
and you proceeded to do just that into the later years of your lives, as you fought fires and saved others together. as you scolded each other when either one of you landed yourselves in the hospital for a couple of weeks or longer. no matter how mad you were, you'd always love one another.

911: Buck/Reader
This wasn't requested, but I've been rewatching 911 and wanted to write for it.
Hope you like it!
Everyone is way of the job. It’s a rule for first responders. However, every month, it seems as if even more chaos ensues; the full moon. Whether it’s because everyone’s blood pressure spikes, but it feels like more people are seeing red, acting on impulse or just acting without a single care for themselves or anyone else.
As soon as the ambulance came to a stop, I took a deep breath. Hen parked the ambulance, took another look at me and laughed. I rolled my eyes but accepted a pack of wet wipes that she handed to me.
“Don’t get blood on the handles.” She told me.
“I need to shower, and maybe soak my clothes in bleach. Tell Cap I’ll get the report finalised after.” I used a wipe to clean my hands of any remaining blood from our last call.
“I’ll let him know, go get cleaned up.” Hen got out the ambulance and I followed her out.
“Whoa,” I heard as everyone saw me and Hen got out the ambulance. I looked up at the balcony as Eddie and Chimney stared at me. “Who died?”
I sighed and pinched the bridge of my nose. Hen saw my reaction and went up the stairs to explain the events of our call.
“Are you okay?” I looked over at Buck whose eyes were wide with concern.
“Yeah, I’m fine. It’s not my blood.” I assured him with a smile. “Hen will fill you in on the gory details. I cringed at my own words.
“Okay, good to know.” Buck nodded and assessed me once more to make sure I was okay.
“Buck, I’m fine,” I told him before heading for the showers.
What felt like an eternity of scrubbing, I left the showers clean and free of blood. The shower itself took extra time to be cleaned and sanitized. Once I was in clean clothes, I made my way to the kitchen where everyone was sitting. Hen smiled when she I was coming to join them.
“There she is,” Chimney announced. “Nice to see that there’s no blood on you.”
“I think I left the scene red-handed.” I joked. Buck smiled and sat up straighter letting me join him on the sofa. The firefighter regarded me with a look that I couldn’t quite figure out.
“Please tell me that there isn’t any blood still on me.”
“Nah, you’re good. Hen was telling us about how you stopped a guy from bleeding out.” There was a smile of admiration on his face and he nudged me with his elbow.
“Oh yeah,” I nodded. “It was weird though. It looked like he was bitten.”
“Oh, he was.” Hen waved her phone and handed it to me.
I took it and began reading the report. As I did, I realised Buck was reading it over my shoulder. I leaned back and angled the phone to let him read with me.
“Great, so aside from all the usually stupidity, we have the Full Moon Biter. People need to stop smoking bath salts…” I trailed off when I noticed Hen was watching me and Buck. Buck whose face was very close to my own.
It was nice siting close to Buck, it was comfortable. I was close enough that I could still smell the aftershave and body spray that he had used in the morning. We were comfortable enough that nobody else sat next to him. And allowed me to take that space.
“Didn’t you guys deal with something like this last month?” Buck asked leaning back into the sofa as if he were suddenly aware of our proximity.
“Something similar. Except that guy wasn’t pretending to be Dracula.” I shrugged my shoulders.
Hen left the two of us and said something about needing to call Karen. Chimney and Eddie were off doing their own thing. That left Buck and I sitting on the sofa. I sighed and leaned back. Buck leaned next to me and watched my face.
“I should’ve said I was sick today or something.” I let my head fall back, falling on Buck’s arm. I stared at the ceiling as Buck began talking.
“Eh, everyone feels that way. I mean, you saved someone, so that’s good right?”
“I guess. I just acted on instinct.”
“Your instinct saved someone; you stopped a guy from bleeding out with your own hands!” Buck nudged me and I couldn’t help but smile.
“Yeah, I did good. I also could’ve landed a role in Carrie.” I laughed.
I turned my head to look at Buck. I didn’t realise how close he was to me again until my lips brush against his.
The two of froze, my breath caught in my throat. I closed the gap between us and pressed my lips to his. Buck deepened the kiss, his hand cupping my cheek keeping me close to him.
Then the alarms went off, the announcement calling for the fire truck and the paramedics to respond to an MVC.
The two of us pulled apart from each other, breathless. I looked at Buck who was at a loss for words.
“We, we should go.” I got up and Buck followed, the two of us running to join the others for the call. I got in the ambulance with Hen and she pulled out of the house. Sitting in the seat, I looked out the window, my heart still racing and my lips felt electric and tingled.
“You okay?” Hen asked glancing over as I gently touched my lips. “You haven’t said anything since we left. Did something happen between you and Buck?”
I looked at her. “I kissed Buck. And he kissed me back. And I want to kiss him again.” A laugh escaped me and Hen joined me.
“I knew it!”
Before I would tell her to stop laughing, we had arrived at the scene and went into business, the laughter was left in the ambulance for later.
There were three cars that had crashed into each other. The reason was because two people had run into the road causing one person to suddenly slam on the brakes. That then led to the collision.
Hen and I ran to the pedestrians lying in the road as the others went to check on everyone in the cars. I knelt on the ground and turned to look at the victim. Before I could begin my assessment, I saw more blood than what is expected for these situations. My patient had blood on his face and neck.
“Hen, I think-”
Before I could finish altering Hen, the victim grabbed my shoulders and pulled me towards him, his teeth clamping down on my neck.
I screamed and then everything happened so quickly. There was yelling and I felt someone pull me away from the biter. I began feeling faint as I was sat on the ground.
“(Y/N), hey, look at me.” Eddie caught my attention and made me look at his face.
“(Y/N), we need to flush the bite, it doesn’t look like he got any of the arteries but you are going to bleed out if we don’t get you covered up.” Bobby told me. I nodded to show I understood, not trusting my voice. “Buck, stay on the vehicles!”
“Cap!” Buck yelled back in protest. He was holding his helmet in his hand as he watched to see if I was okay.
I winced as felt the saline against the open wound.
“Okay, we need to get you transported. They’re going to have to make sure nothing was transmitted.” Eddie told me.
“Gotcha,” I let him pull me to my feet. The next thing I knew was that I was in the back of an ambulance. It wasn’t one from the 118 so Eddie was sitting with me checking on my vitals despite my protests.
“I really should’ve called in sick.” I groaned as Eddie peeked under the dressings.
“Yeah, Buck probably wouldn’t have been too happy about that though.” Eddie gave me a smile and my face grew hot.
“I’m guessing he told you?”
“Yep, and he’s been wanting to do that for a while.”
I laughed. “Really?”
“He likes you, but it’s Buck. He’s all action.”
Before we could continue, the ambulance stopped at the hospital. Eddie helped me out and let me get taken by nurses ready to take blood and perform tests. I was put on a bed in the emergency room and I put my head back. The wound was cleaned and I was left waiting, still shaking from the events. Then there was familiar chatter as the other members of the 118 arrived. I looked over at them and made eye contact with Buck. He looked relieved to see I was okay and rushed over.
“Hey,” I smiled at him.
“Hey, are- are you okay?” Buck asked as I pulled my knees close to make space.
“Yeah, a little shaken.” I held up my hand and showed Buck He chuckled and took my hand, giving it a comforting squeeze. “I think everything should be okay, I didn’t hear anything about the other guy that they brought in. Did they find out what the biter was on?”
“Uh, I think they said it was bath salts.”
“Are you kidding?”
Buck laughed again and I saw his gaze was on my face. It travelled from my eyes to my lips.
“So, earlier at the firehouse.” Buck began.
“Yeah, I talked to Eddie,”
“Right. Well, I want to let you know that I meant what I said.” He assured me.
“Good. I feel the same way.”
“Really?” Buck asked almost incredulously. “Well, how about after shift, I take you on a real date.”
“I would like that,” I smiled and leaned towards him.
“I saw that there’s a new vampire movie coming out.
“You wish Buck.” I quickly looked past and saw that everyone was looking towards us. Somehow, Hen managed to get everyone’s attention and led them out the room. Buck, looking over his shoulder and realising the same thing, turned back to look at me. There was a smile on his face as he cupped my cheek and brought his lips to mine.

Honestly, it was a stupid petty fight that had Y/N running away from her house and to Atheha and Bobby. Some very hurtful things were said on both ends and Eddie was there trying to defuse the situation. Neither of the fathers thought their 10-year-old daughter would run away from home at 10 PM on a Friday.
Everyone was stressed for many different reasons. Chris wasn't but he's always in good spirits. Eddie was too but he tried to keep his cool for his kid's sake. Buck and Y/N are very similar in many ways than one can think even if they aren't biologically related. They got stressed easily and were the ones to show it more. Buck and Y/N both had a hot-tempered attitude. They also shared the same expressions and handled certain ways the same. Even though she was like Buck she was a lot like Eddie too. Eddie and his daughter could think quickly on their feet and they handled certain situations the same too but if it got too much then forget about it.
So when the fight broke out she tried to stay calm she really did but her temper was quickly rising. The fight was about how she wanted to go out to a friend's house, who was having a party. Both parents had said no but she really wanted to go so she kept pushing until it got too much and Buck exploded in anger and so did she.
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
When they went and picked her up from school Friday afternoon is when the asking to go started. Both Eddie and Buck were already stressed from the all-day stressful calls they were getting. Chris had already been picked up from school by Carla and now they were picking her up. Eddie parked the truck as Buck got out and went into the school to get her.
He walked in and to the desk and the receptionist was already looking up and calling on her phone. They talked small talk and then she walked in.
"Hi, Daddy." She said and hugged him and he hugged her back embracing the warm and calming feeling she lets off.
"Hey, Baby. How was your day?" He asked as he let her go and shouldered her backpack.
"It was good! Jordan has a birthday party this weekend and I was wondering if I could go." She asked hopefully usually they let her go to things like that but they weren't feeling particularly well at the moment.
"I don't know, Baby. We'll have to see what your father says. I think we already made plans." He told her and watched her face fall.
"Oh ok." She said and they walked in silence to the black truck that is her other dad's. When they got there Buck helped her into the truck and buckled her up. Eddie looked at her face and noticed she wasn't her usually smiling self.
"Hey, Princesa. How was school?" He asked and she just shrugged her shoulders as Buck got into the passenger side of the truck. Eddie frowned "Everything ok?" He asked both of them. She was silent.
"Jordan is having a birthday this weekend at her house and I wanted to go." She said quietly looking down. Eddie sighed and looked at Buck and they seemed to have silent conversation with each other.
"Princesa, we have some things planned this weekend. You're not going to be able to go." He said calmly and she nodded and looked down. The question was dropped as they rode home. She knew not to test them but she really wanted to go but she dropped it for now and decided to ask again later, maybe they would forget that she asked beforehand.
When they got home everyone got out of the truck and walked inside. Chris greeted them happily and they all smiled. He was such a happy kid. Y/N sat at the table and started her homework, which wasn't much. Buck and Eddie were working on dinner since they got home around 5 PM and they usually eat supper at 6:30 PM.
"Papa, Daddy?" She asked addressing both of them.
"Yes, Princesa?" Eddie asked
"Yes, Baby?" Buck asked at the same time.
"Can I go to Jordan's birthday party?" She asked them and looked up and they sighed.
"We've already been over this, Princesa. We already have some plans for the weekend." Eddie said and she pouted but wasn't about to give up.
"Please?" She asked giving them puppy dog eyes. Buck's temper was slowly rising they'd already said no but her stubbornness, which she got from Buck, wasn't going to let her stop.
"No. End of discussion. Now clear the table dinner is ready." Buck said sternly. She groaned but did what she was told. She wasn't happy about it.
Dinner was tense and Chris could feel it and tried to make it less tense and it helped but it wasn't for very long. "Hey, Dad. What are we doing this weekend?" Chris asked.
"We have a firehouse event we have to attend to." Eddie said and that made Y/N frown.
"Do I have to go to it?" She asked really wanting to go to Jordan's birthday party.
"Yes, you have to. We already said everyone was going to be there." Buck said temper running high as they all finished their food and started collecting plates. It was dark now and had started raining. She followed them to the kitchen carrying her plate and sat it on the counter.
"But daddy." She began pouting and Buck looked at her.
"No means no Y/N. You're not going and that's final." He said turning around. Eddie was getting mad that she kept asking but why have both parents fight? It would just cause more tension.
"You always say no though." She said temper rising.
"You're not going and that is final." Buck said turning around to look at her.
"Please." She tried pleading one more time and saw the look on his face. "You never let me have fun." She said crossing her arms.
"We're trying to keep you safe. We've seen how crazy parties get." Buck said while wiping down dishes and putting them in the drying rack.
"So? It won't happen there." She said starting to get sassy.
"You don't know that. You're not going and that is final. Now get ready for bed." Buck said.
"Papa." She said whining. He knew he was going to get roped into this he calmly turned to her.
"Princesa, you can't go. We've already made plans for the firehouse event." Eddie said
"It's only one event I'll be missing. It's not a big deal." She said angrily.
"Yes it is a big. We told you no and that's final. Now stop asking." Buck butted in and that's when her temper exploded.
"I hate you." She said turning to walk away.
"Yea well, I hate you right now too." Buck said and she stopped and tears filled her eyes.
"Buck." Eddie said not mad anymore at her but at him. She turned to them and said something that would crush any parents heart.
"I wish I wasn't born. I wish you would've just let me die in that car accident." She said. They never kept her from the truth when she asked why she didn't have a mother.
"Yea? So do I. Right now you're acting like a little spoiled brat." Buck said out of anger. Eddie looked at him shocked and then anger.
"Evan Buckley." He said and then turned towards their daughter.
"Princesa, he didn't mean it." Walking over to her but she was already out the door and taking off running. He turned towards Buck. "If she gets hurt and worse. It's on you." He said Buck had a look of regret on his face.
"I didn't mean it but she was acting out." Buck said now starting to worry.
"I get that but so were you. I get that we are stressed but we never ever take it out on our children. We made that promise." Eddie said angrily.
"I know ok. I know. I didn't mean it. It was stupid. I wish I could take it back." Buck said just as Chris walked into the room.
"What's going on?" He asked
"Y/N and Buck had a fight and she took off. Are you ok here alone while we go look for her?" Eddie said and Chris nodded.
"Yes. Bring my sister back home." He said and Eddie nodded and then looked at Buck.
"Are you coming?" He said a little irritated at him.
"Yes of course. Why wouldn't I?" He asked.
"I don't know Buck maybe because you did say you wished she wasn't born or that wished that we didn't save her. Start calling her friends and we'll go to some of their houses." Eddie said and Buck nodded doing just that he didn't say a word. The words he said hit him like a ton of bricks.
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
When Y/N had run out of the house she didn't think about grabbing a rain jacket. She just took off. She had turned off her tracker. While she was running she had slipped on the wet asphalt and twisted her ankle when she slammed into a stop sign cutting her.
When she was far enough away from the house she called her Aunt Maddie and Uncle Chimney. She was hoping they were home.
"Hello?" Maddie asked tiredly
"Aunt Maddie." Y/N began crying
"Honey, are you ok?" She asked
"I'm sorry for bothering you. It sounds like I woke you up." Y/N said, "I'll let you go." She finished.
"No Honey. Where are you it sounds like it's raining." She said
"Dad and I fought. I ran away. Are you home?" She asked and she heard her sigh.
"No, Honey. We're not. We took a little trip out of the city." Maddie said.
"Are you ok?" Chimney asked the youngest Buckley-Diaz.
"No. I'm sorry for bothering you. I'll leave you guys alone. I love you." Y/N said sniffling.
"Y/N/N wait." Maddie began but Y/N had already ended the call.
She started to limp off in the direction of another house she knew the way to very well. She went off onto a beaten path and as she was climbing a hill she slipped and got mud all over her while twisting her knee in the process and she just started crying harder.
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
Buck and Eddie had stopped at Y/N's best friend's, Liz, house. They parked the car and went up to the door and knocked. They waited for a second until it opened.
"Hey Eddie, Buck. What can I do for you?" Mrs. Waters asked.
"Y/N and I had a fight and ran out. We were wondering if she came here." Buck said
"No. I'm sorry. If she does turn up I'll give you a call." She said and they nodded.
"Thank you. We appreciate it. Sorry to bother you." Eddie said
"It's not a problem. Have a goodnight boys." She said
"You too." Buck said and they walked off and got into the truck and headed off. Eddie pulled off the side of the road and they began talking.
"Ok so she's not there or any other of her friends. Maddie is out of town. Do you think she would go to Hen?" Buck asked
"It's worth a shot." Eddie said and so they took towards her place. They drove to Hen's place and parked in her driveway. They walked up and knocked on the door. It didn't take long for her and Karen to answer the door.
"Eddie? Buck? Everything ok?" She asked
"No Buck and and Y/N fought some words were said and she took off. We've been trying to find her. Thought she would come here." Eddie said.
"Why don't you come in and we'll figure this out together." Karen said worried for the couple and their daughter. They walked in and sat down on the couch and they began trying to figure it out.
As they sat down Buck had gotten a call from his very angry sister. He got up and walked into the kitchen away from the others for privacy.
"Evan Buckley, explain to me why my niece calls me crying and what sounded like she was standing out in the pouring rain. You know how she deals with stress. She's too much like you." Maddie said any tiredness gone from her voice.
"Maddie it was a big misunderstanding. We had a fight and somethings were said." Buck said trying to justify himself.
"Why was so in the pouring rain?" She asked at the same time as Chimney asked the same question.
"She ran away and we can't find her." Buck said
"You better find her." She said and hung up.
Buck walked back into the living room "Maddie and Chim just chewed me out."
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
When Y/N reached Athena and Bobby's she soaking wet and shivering. She was also limping and bleeding. She had year tracks going down her face but you could hardly tell with the rain. She limped her way to the door and rang the doorbell. She waited and waited she turned around and was about to limp her way back home when the door opened.
"Y/N?" Bobby said and she turned around but almost fell. He was in his sleepwear.
"I didn't know where else to go." She said and started sobbing. He looked her over and noticed some bleeding from under her right eyebrow and running into her eye.
"Come on get out of the rain." He said and helped her into the house and down the stairs. About that time Athena had walked in.
"Bobby? What's going on?" She asked but then saw him with her. "What happened, Sweetheart?" She asked coming over to the young girl. They guided her to the couch and sat her down.
"Dad and I fought he said that he wished that you guys never saved me. I also said that I wished I was never born." She said and they looked at her.
"What brought this on?" Bobby asked
"I wanted to go to Jordan's birthday party this weekend but Papa and Dad said that we already had plans. Plans for an event for the firehouse. They said I wasn't allowed to miss it." She said taking a breath "So I ran away. I tried to call Maddie and Chim but they went out of the city. I slipped on the asphalt and hit a stop sign and twisted my ankle. Then as I was climbing a hill I slipped and fell in the mud and hurt my knee." She finished with fresh tears rolling down her cheeks.
"I take they don't know you're here." Bobby said and she shook her head.
"No." She said quietly
"I'm gonna go get you some dry clothes and then we're going to clean you up and check out that ankle and knee." Athena said and went into May's room and got some clothes she left that she didn't want or fit into then came out. Athena helped her change and then went out to where Bobby had the first aid kit.
Bobby started dabbing at the cut and she flinched but didn't make a sound. Athena took your clothes and threw them in the washer. "You know we're going to have to call them right?" He asked her and she nodded. "Well, good news is that you don't need stitches." He said and then went on examining her knee and ankle, which were both swollen. "Looks to be just twisted and sprained." He said and she nodded and yawned.
"Why don't you lay down on the couch and we'll call your parents." Athena said and Y/N nodded and laid down. Bobby threw a blanket over her. They walked into the kitchen and talked in a hushed whisper. Bobby got his phone out and called Eddie.
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
Eddie and Buck were still at Hen's and Karen's. "We tried her friends. We went to her favorite places. We can't find her anywhere." Eddie said.
"She couldn't have gone far. Do you have the find my family app?" Karen asked and they nodded.
"But she turned it off." Buck said and before anyone could speak Eddie's phone rang.
"Hey its Bobby." He said confused
"Hey, Bobby. What's up" Eddie asked
"Y/N showed up at our place soaking wet, shivering, covered in mud, sprained ankle, a twisted knee, and cut above her right eyebrow. She said that her and Buck got into a fight." He said and Eddie sighed and put him on speaker.
"She's telling the truth. She ran away when some hurtful things were said on both sides.
"She's sleeping on the couch as we speak. Athena is with her." Bobby said.
"Thank you, Bobby. We're on our way." Eddie said
"Be safe, it is still pouring down rain." Bobby said
"We will be." Eddie said and they hung up.
Buck and Eddie bid Karen and Hen a goodbye and they gave each other a hug and they were on their way to get their little girl.
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
When Eddie and Buck got to Bobby's and Athena's it had stopped raining. Eddie parked the truck and they walked to the door at 10 PM. Buck knocked on the door and Bobby answered the door. He let them in and took them to Y/N. Their hearts broke at the sight of their little girl, she was curled up and looking so small.
"She's ok. She doesn't need stitches. Her clothes are in the washer. I'll bring them to our next shift." Bobby said and they nodded and he walked away letting them deal with their little girl. Athena got up and joined her husband. They bent down in front of her and Eddie ran a hand on top of her head. She slowly stirred and opened her eyes.
"Papa?" She asked and he nodded and then she looked over at Buck and tensed and her eyes went wide and she sat up.
"Hey it's ok." Buck said and reached out to put a hair behind her ears. "Y/N, I'm sorry I said those things. I didn't mean it. You're one of the best things to happen to me. I love you with all of my heart. I'm sorry. Please forgive me." Buck said and she relaxed and looked at him.
"I'm sorry too for running out and saying I hate you." She said in a small voice.
"Are you ready to go home?" Eddie asked and she nodded.
"Yea." She said with a yawn. Bobby and Athena walked in.
"Thank you guys." Buck said standing up at the same time as Eddie.
"Anytime guys. Y/N get better soon." Bobby said and she nodded and tried to stand up but winced.
"I'll carry you." Buck said and picked her up and she snuggled into him. Eddie opened the door for them all and they walked out. Eddie opened the passenger side of the truck and Buck gently put her in.
Eddie and Buck got in and started their drive back home. While at a stoplight they looked back and saw Y/N asleep. They smiled at their little girl. Yes hurtful things were said and she may have ran away but she ran to people she trusted. Running away was not the smartest but it was in the heat of the moement.
They got home and but got her out of the truck once it was parked and they headed inside Chris was already in bed and asleep. "I'll go tuck her in." Buck said and Eddie nodded. When he didn't come back after 5 minutes he went and looked in on them. What he found was Buck cuddling their little girl fast asleep and her gripping his shirt like her life depended on it. He walked in and planted a kiss on both of their foreheads
"Goodnight you two. I love you both." He said and covered them up and left the room. He went to check on Chris who woke up when his door cracked.
"Did you find Y/N?" He asked sleepily and Eddie nodded smiling. He walked into the room and sat on his bed.
"We did. She and Buck are fast asleep in her room. Go back to sleep bud." Eddie said to him and he nodded and rolled over and went to sleep. He kissed his forehead and left the room.
Eddie got ready for bed. He didn't like sleeping alone but knew that Buck needed this and let them be. They were both stressed and it could've been handled better but everyone was safe. Their safety is all that he cared about as he rolled over and went to sleep. Their family was complete again and nothing was going to change that.

Authors note: Unfortunately, I didn't know if you wanted Athena and the reader to possibly be together because you didn't describe it further, so I just went with the idea of the two being together. I hope it's okay ♥
ᕚ---ᕘ
You stood nervously in the middle of a secluded examination room, your expression focused as you quickly put on the disposable gloves and prepared yourself for the task at hand. You were assigned an aggressive patient, tormented by pain and under the possible influence of drugs. His gaze is wide open between the gathering of nurses who are trying to hold him down on the stretcher, his pupils dilated and his movements uncontrolled while gesticulating wildly. The man seemed out of control and full of anger, sending a shiver of fear down your spine.
Various utensils were scattered on the floor, and the medical ultrasound machine lay overturned on the floor and yet you approached the patient with calm determination but caution, trying not to be intimidated by his aggression. A tense atmosphere filled the room as you struggled to take the necessary medical measures.
Drawing up a syringe with your shaky hands and keeping it ready to calm the patient down, you knew you had to proceed with caution to avoid escalating the situation as the man uttered unintelligible profanities and tries to break away. In a state of delirious rage, he vehemently resisted the touch and in a sudden rush of aggression, he reached for you and hit you with a powerful punch in the stomach. "Go away! Leave me alone!"
You stumbled back, feeling the sharp pain in your side, but despite the shock and injury, you remained calm and focused. With practiced hands you continued to try to treat the patient, still holding the syringe in your fist, while at the same time he tried to protect himself. "Please calm down, Mr. Johnson. We just want to help you." Another push from him made you fall violently into one of the standing cabinets, the needle of the syringe piercing your thigh.
“Damn,” you groaned, looking down. Luckily the sedative had not come loose due to the impact and was still completely in the syringe, so you had nothing to worry about. However, the relentless beeping of the machines near you worried you.  With a short scream, you quickly pulled the needle from your leg and threw the used syringe into the sink before standing up and looking at your colleagues. "Get the police in here. They should put the guy in chains, it is too dangerous for us.“
One of the male nurses nodded at you and let go of the guy on the lounger. He quickly ran out of the room and let the other sisters fight the man with all their might. Without further ado, he came back with two officers and surprisingly, you looked into the face of your girlfriend and her long-time partner, Officer Rodriquez. „Doctor, how can we support you?“ she asked professionally with a smile on her lips, and you breathed a sigh of relief as you pointed at the young man. A small grin appeared on your face too at the sight of her. She was wearing her uniform, the taser holster already open just in case while gloves were up to her wrists to intervene safely whenever you needed her. "He is very aggressive. We have to give him an injection, but he fights back with all his might."
It was only when you pushed yourself up from your leaning position and hobbled along to the syringes to put on a new one that she noticed that a blood stain had formed on your thigh; showing through your blue pants. "You are hurt, are you okay?" There was concern in her voice that you could clearly hear. Both Athena and her partner cautiously approached Mr. Johnson, trying to calm him down while you prepared the injection of a sedative. However, Athena's gaze was focused on you, demanding an answer. "I am okay, nothing happened."
The police officer was not really convinced by your answer, but would deal with you later and care for you. Officer Rodriguez spoke soothingly to the man, diverting his attention as he helped the nurses hold him on the gurney while you cautiously approached him behind Athena. With the help of the two police officers, you finally managed to calm him down and give the injection. Slowly, Mr. Johnson relaxed, twitching briefly before his anger subsided and his thrashing became weaker until he finally fell into a more peaceful sleep.
Your people exhale in relief as you continue to keep an eye on the patient, watching his heartbeat slow down. "One of you must remain here with the nurses to provide them with protection should he wake up again," you stated as you freed yourself from the utensils you had been using and successfully threw your gloves into the trash can. Before you left the room, you addressed your employees. "He needs to be monitored around the clock. Call me as soon as anything changes in his condition. Give him fluids, a liter of saline to start with."
The door closed behind you and you walked towards a free room to treat your wound. However, before you had even reached your destination, an arm sneaked around your waist as a kiss was planted on your temple. "Hey, 'thena." You whispered, giggling and leaning against her side. Supportively, she helped you into another room where she ordered you to sit down while you told her what you needed to patch yourself up. "How many times have I told you that once you get an aggressive patient, you do not do anything until you call the cops into the room?"
“Often enough,” you admitted, placing a hand over your furrowed brow before standing up and gently brushing your pants down your thigh. "But the work must be done, even under these extremely difficult circumstances." Her head shook several times as she walked towards you and placed the things you needed on the cupboard. Athena took a seat in the chair in front of you and began cleaning the wound with disinfectant.
You clenched your teeth, let out a painful hiss, and squeezed your eyes shut as the cotton pad dipped in alcohol glided over your skin. "'thena, you know that I am actually the doctor, right?" you muttered under you breath and clawed into the foam with all your strength. "Babe, but you know I do not care, right?"

You slowly ebbed back into consciousness. All of your senses were slow and jarred, your entire body aching as if you had been shaken and stirred violently. Pure exhaustion ran through every bone in your body as you squinted blankly at your surroundings. The stark white ceiling, railed hospital bed, and two chairs next to it were familiar. You were at a hospital, as you had been times before since becoming a firefighter.
Why you were here and how didn’t seem to matter at the moment. Simply falling back to sleep was more tempting than it had ever been and as your eyes fluttered closed again, you nearly let your mind drift back off.
Until all the memories of yesterday hit you like a speeding train.
A sharp gasp left you as vivid visions of Christopher filled your mind, his green eyes wide with fear and panic. The smell of fuel and fire that had hung in the air, the wreck that surrounded you, having to give Christopher to a stranger, and finally pulling an injured driver out of a burning vehicle.
It faded into bits after that, but the last memory was striking. The recollection of gazing down at your white shirt and noticing the striking red liquid that coated it. You had collapsed like a pile of bricks, hot agony overloading your every sense. The last thought on your mind had been Christopher. You needed to make sure he was safe, but your body had betrayed you.
Adrenaline coursed through your veins like an electric shock as fear overwhelmed you, your heartbeat pounding in your ears. Frantic beeping sounded from all around you, a testament to your distress. You tried to sit up, but your weak body and stiff joints prevented you. Numbness in your limbs and the sensitivity in your abdomen made it too difficult, as you could only barely frail around in the hospital bed.
“C-Christopher… where are you?” You called out desperately, eyes darting around the empty hospital room. Your throat was too dry to even speak properly, and you couldn’t reach for the pitcher of water that lay on the nightstand next to you.
It was endlessly frustrating, and an eternity seemed to pass as you kept trying. In reality, it was only about a few seconds before the door hurriedly pushed open and someone rushed in.
A nurse wearing a green uniform rushed to your side. She was tall, with curly brown hair in a tight ponytail. Despite your frenzied state, she was calm and collected, her hazel eyes flickering to the beeping machine as she spoke.
“Hey now, let’s try to calm down. My name is Jen, I’m your nurse.” She tried to assure you, placing a gentle but firm hand on your shoulders to try to get you to lay back.
“No,” you muttered in protest, but allowed her to guide you anyways, “W-Where is Christopher? I need to know he’s alright, please.”
Confusion passed across her face momentarily, before she said, “Ah, you must mean Mr. Diaz’s son, they’re in the waiting room.”
Eddie and Christopher were both here? Now?
God, how you wanted to see them.
“You’re positive?” You questioned.
“Yes, a few bumps and bruises but he’s alright. The entire nursing station thinks he’s adorable. Trust me.” Jen said with a soft smile.
Relief flowed through you like an avalanche, shoulders slumping as you allowed yourself to relax a bit. Christopher was alright. He was safe and that was all that mattered.
“Thank god…”
She nodded, observing you for a second quietly. “Well, now that you know he’s alright, let’s get back to you. How are you feeling? Are you in any pain?”
You blinked, having not considered your state since waking up. Clearly, you had some kind of abdominal surgery and after the pain you felt after the crash, that wasn’t surprising. It had felt like you had been run over and then scrapped off the ground, but you were okay.
“Just tired. Very tired and sore, “you admitted with a whisper.
“I see,” Jen said sympathetically, “Well, you underwent a very long surgery. The surgeon himself will come in and explain soon, but everything went very well.”
You only nodded, unsure how to respond. You weren’t used to being in this position at all. Usually, you were the one visiting injured co-workers and victims in the hospital. It was strange to be on the other side, even stranger as you felt you deserved it.
“Do you feel up to visitors? You’ve got quite a few people in the waiting area for you. They asked to wait by your side, but the doctor didn’t want you to be overwhelmed.”
Lips pulling down at the sides, you thought it over. Of course, you wanted to see everyone, especially Eddie and Christopher, but did you deserve it? You couldn’t even imagine how Eddie must be feeling towards you. You didn’t have time yourself to think about it in the heat of everything that happened, but surely he must be livid.
Eddie already had reservations about trusting others with Christopher and the first time he trusted you, what happened? Christopher could have died, could have been taken away from him forever. Christopher must have been so frightened too, he must despise you now. The mere thought broke your heart and brought fresh tears to your exhausted eyes.
How could either of them ever forgive you? How could you ever forgive yourself? You should have seen the truck coming, should have swerved in time. But, you hadn’t and the shame and guilt of that were burned into your mind. No matter how you looked at it, there was blame that laid firmly on you.
“No,” you said bluntly, “I don’t want to see anyone and I won’t be feeling up to it tonight… but please let them know I’m fine.”
“Sure,” Jen said with a slow nod.
“Thank you.”
“You know, they told me that you’re a hero – that you saved people.”
“Hero?” You muttered in genuine shock. “Hardly.”
Jen frowned and observed you silently for a second as if wanting to say something, but deciding not to do it.
“Doctor Halstead will be in soon. Just let us know if you need anything.”
You gave a tight-lipped smile in reply that disappeared as she turned and left the room.
Hero? You? No. Somedays you liked to think you were, but you hadn’t been in this situation. You had let real harm come to Christopher and let down the man you loved.
Tears brimming in your eyes, you took in a deep breath and let the exhaustion that had been bearing on you take hold. You knew what you had to do. You needed to make it so you could never hurt Christopher or Eddie again. You had broken a promise to both of them, but this one you would keep.

It had been a long two weeks of recovery in the hospital and you still had a few more weeks before you would be fully recovered, but you were finally getting home. However, while you were a bit mobile now, you still needed to rest as much as possible, which was why Carla had so graciously offered to pick you up from the hospital and stay with you for a week to help you get settled.
“Thank you so much for coming, Carla. I appreciate it more than you know,” you said with a relieved sigh, as you gently lowered yourself into bed. Your abdomen was still sore so you had to be careful, but you were so glad to be home and sleeping in your own private space.
“Of course, doll. Don’t even think twice about it,” Carla said, as she placed your bags down next to your dresser. “You’ve got me here to help with whatever you need.”
“And you’re sure Eddie is going to be okay with not having you around?”
“Yes, Buck and Bobby are going to pick up the slack while I’m gone. We have it all under control, so don’t worry about a thing.”
You nodded, despite still being a bit worried about it. Mostly because you hoped Eddie wasn’t upset about you stealing Carla for the week, but couldn’t be sure how he felt. Things between you and Eddie had been strained to say the least.
You hadn’t seen him or anyone else since the day of the accident as you had told the nurses at the hospital you didn’t want any visitors at all. He had called you a few times, but the conversations were all short. You had been extremely quiet, unsure what to say through the guilt and shame you felt over the accident.
Eddie had been confused and upset, pressing you for what was wrong, but you couldn’t explain your feelings at the time. You simply weren’t in the right headspace. All you could manage to tell him was that you needed space before you could see him and Christopher again. He assured you that it was okay and that Christopher was doing alright too, which had been a big worry of yours.
“You know Eddie and Chris are really worried about you, Hunny. Everyone is.” Carla said as she sat down on the side of your bed.
You looked away as you replied, “they shouldn’t be, I’m doing just fine.”
“Fine? You’re recovering from major surgery and shutting out the people who love you most. You are not fine. They miss you, don’t you miss them? Why don’t you reach out?” She asked gently, her brown eyes filled with motherly concern.
“Of course I do and I want to, but it’s not that simple.”
“Well, maybe I’m missing a piece of the puzzle then because I just don’t see why. You know Eddie has been telling Chris that you need time to recover before he can come to see you, but he’s going to start wondering about that soon.”
You weren’t sure if it was the fatigue from being trapped in a hospital bed for weeks or bottling up your emotions so tightly for too long, but tears sprang to the corners of your eyes at her words. The last thing you wanted was to be hurting Christopher or Eddie, but deep down inside, you knew she was right. You were hurting them by shutting them out.
“Chris shouldn’t want to see me, Eddie shouldn’t either. It’s because of me that his son was in an accident. It’s best this way,” you whispered brokenly.
Carla’s eyes widened at that, her whole being looking affronted at what you said.
“Is that what you think? Sweetpea...” she said, shaking her head. “No, that is not true and I know —”
“Please,” you started, cutting her off before she could say anymore. “I can’t speak about this anymore, I just need to rest.”
Your tone left no room for argument and Carla knew you weren’t ready to be pushed right now.
“Alright, I’ll wake you up in a few hours for dinner. Just holler if you need something.”
With that, she got up and left your room quietly, leaving you alone for a while.
You were relieved to be alone, though you felt guilty for making her go when she clearly just wanted to help you. She was right after all and soon you would have to confront all that you had been avoiding, but for now, you simply wanted to rest. Though you weren’t sure it would be that easy.
Ever since the crash, you had been plagued by horrendous nightmares that replayed that day over and over. Except in these terrors, you weren’t able to pull yourself or Christopher out of the car, instead, you were forced to watch as smoke and fire consumed all. Forced to listen to yourself and Christopher screaming in agony.
You weren’t sure how to deal with the nightmares, as there had only been one other time in your life you were plagued by them. But you deserved them back then and this time too.

Prompt -  'So this is me swallowing my pride, standing in front of you saying I’m sorry for that night.’
You felt like you could hardly sit still as you sat at a small table furthest away from the door, trying to get the most amount of privacy for the conversation that was to come. Outside the window snow fell down and you rubbed your hands together, both out of nerves and in an attempt to warm them up.
You had played and replayed how this conversation was going to go a million times over in your head, planned what to say only to scrap each idea as nothing you came up with felt good enough.
The drink you had ordered had been placed on your table only seconds before the bell jingled to announce the door opening and you barely had time to thank the waitress before your mouth went dry. As much as you wanted this conversation, as grateful as you were for it, there was another part of you that wanted to run away.
But you couldn’t run away again, not when you were being given a second chance, even if it was only to have one last conversation before living the rest of your life with regrets over what could've been.
You watched as he scanned the rooms, cheeks red from the cold, before his eyes landed on you. You hated the tension clearly readable even from across the room and how he seemed to have to force his feet to make their way over to you.
“Hi.” He greeted softly, his voice sending an ache through you and you had to force yourself to swallow past the lump in your throat as he sat in the seat across from you.
“Hey,” Your voice was just as soft as his was, if a little more obviously shaky. “Thank you for coming, I’m so glad you made time to see me.”
“Yeah, well, I,” Buck started before he trailed off and shook his head. “It’s good to see you.”
“You too.” You told him with a small smile, meaning it with every part of you. It had only been two or so weeks since you had last seen him but you had missed him more than words could say. “How is everything? How’s the 118, I haven’t seen them since-” You cut yourself off, neither you or Buck needing you to finish that sentence.
“Things are good, work’s busy but I guess it always is more hectic around the holidays.” He smiled and even though it didn’t meet his eyes you were so glad to see it. “Everyone else is good, Christopher misses you.”
“I miss him too.” Breaking up with Buck was bad but it wasn’t just him you had lost, you had lost the friendship you had made with his friends. You didn’t blame any of them for cutting you off, they were his friends first and would always be in his corner before yours but you missed them all so much.
“How’ve you been?” Buck asked and you couldn’t stop the frown that pulled at your lips because truth be told you hadn’t been great but you wouldn’t tell Buck that, not when it was your fault you were having sleepless night after sleepless night, replaying the same scene, the same conversation, over in your head a million times. You spent nights crying when the memories of weekend trips invaded your mind, summer adventures where Buck drove and you sat at his side, watching him laugh as the two of you sung loudly to the radio, remembered the nights tucked against his chest with his arms wrapped around you and feeling safer than you had ever felt in your whole life.
“I’m okay.” Was about as much as you could muster up and Buck glanced away from you for only a moment before his focus was back on you. The lump in your throat was back and you forced it down, as well as the stinging you felt in the back of your eyes.
The small talk was painful to both of you, the reason why you were here hanging heavily in the air but you were still desperately trying to think of the right thing to say. Buck’s guard was so obviously up and for good reason to. You’d hurt him, you knew he had been hurt before, left behind without a second thought and you had done the same to him.
How could you tell him the reason when you didn’t fully understand why you had done it yourself? How could you tell him that you had panicked, that he had been so perfect, so incredible, always thoughtful, always putting you first, how could you tell him that it was so serious that it had scared you.
Part of you knew he would have understood if you had handled it better, if you had sat him down and told him that this was the most serious relationship you’d ever had, that you loved him more than anything and that terrified you. For some reason you hadn’t been able to bring yourself to do that though, to handle it maturely and take a breath, instead you had walked away in a panic only to regret it every day since.
Buck had every reason to keep his distance now, he had every reason not to show up at all but you were glad he had. You loved him so much and if you ever had a second chance with the man you would never take it for granted.
You shifted in your seat, sitting up straighter and wrapped your hands around your mug just for something to do with them. The lump in your throat seemed to be stuck there but you took another breath and forced yourself to address the reason you had asked Buck to come here.
No part of you was expecting him to take you back but you at least owed him an explanation. People were good at leaving Buck without one and after all the goodness and kindness he had treated you with he at least deserved a reason, he deserved to not spend anymore nights blaming himself and wondering what had gone wrong.
“I’m sorry,” you began and watched as Buck sat up straighter too, his eyes wide and sad as he looked at you and you felt your heart ache. “I’m sorry for that night, Buck. I regret it more than I’ve regretted anything.”
“Why?” Was all Buck was able to choke out and seeing the tears in his eyes made yours sting.
“I wish there was a good reason, Buck. I wish I could tell you something that doesn’t sound as pathetic as the truth.” You told him, voice cracking as you spoke and your grip on the mug tightened.
“Just tell me, Y/N/N, I need to know because I have spent every night agonising over what I did wrong.” He forced out, a single tear sliding down his cheek but he made no move to wipe it away. “I thought we were good.”
“We were, Buck. I promise you, if you don’t believe anything else I say believe this, you were perfect. You were so much more that I could ever ask for, so much more than I deserve and it terrified me. It terrified me Buck because I have never felt this way about anyone in my whole life and I didn’t know how to handle it. I didn’t know what to do with the fact that I love you Buck, I love you so much and I’m not saying this to win you back, I know I hurt you and that, that is unforgivable because you were nothing but amazing and you didn’t deserve me walking out on you and for that, Buck, I am so sorry.” By the end of the short speech tears were sliding down both your cheeks and you were glad you had sat at the back in the far corner of the room, grateful for the privacy.
“Y/N,” Buck whispered but couldn’t seem to say anything else and you smiled at him, a smile filled with sadness and regret.
“I’m so, so sorry, Buck.” You repeated shakily, “I said this wasn’t me trying to get you back and I meant that but I have spent every night since that night regretting not just talking to you, every night missing you more than anything. If I could go back and change it, go back and just talk to you, God Buck, I'd do it in a heartbeat and I’d understand you never wanting to see me again, to walk away and be done with me-”
“I love you too, Y/N/N.” Buck told you softly, cutting off whatever you were going to say next and you were glad for the interruption both because you had no idea what you were actually saying, the words just falling out of you, but also because you got to hear Buck tell you he loved you for the first time. “I love you so much and trust me I was scared too, hell Bobby and Eddie can tell you how many nights I kept them up talking about it so I get it, I just wished you’d talked to me before leaving.”
The two of you were sat with tears falling down your cheeks, looking at one another with love, sadness, hope, as well a whole mix of other emotions. Despite not knowing what was going to happen, for the first time since you’d left Buck you felt like you could breathe again, like the weight that had been sitting on your chest for weeks was finally gone and you couldn’t help but smile at Buck.
“I wish I could change how I handled it.” You told him softly and he just smiled back at you, reaching across the table and gently pried your hand off the mug to wrap in his hand, his thumb brushing gently against your knuckles.
“Promise me that next time you’ll just talk to me, Y/N. I can’t handle you walking away again.” Buck told you and your eyebrows knitted together before his words fully registered and your eyes widened.
“Next time? Buck I-”
“You were scared and overwhelmed and didn’t know how to handle it. I told you I get it but we have to talk about these things, I don’t want to lose you.” Buck cut you off and you couldn’t help but smile at his words even as more tears filled your eyes.
“I promise, Buck.” You told him sincerely, still in disbelief that he was so open to fixing things, to not holding your mistake against you.
God, you loved him so much.
“Good because these last few weeks have been hell.” He laughed even as a few more tears slid down his cheeks. “I’ve missed you so much.”
“I’ve missed you too, Buck.” You said softly and the two of you just sat there for a moment longer, unable to look away from each other, unable to stop smiling as you did.
You might not have been able to go back in time, back to that first week of December where you had walked out of Buck’s apartment with tears sliding down your cheeks, but somehow you were here now with Buck, Buck who had the biggest heart you knew, Buck who would bend over backwards to help anyone, Buck who had the capacity to forgive no matter how many times he got hurt.
You swore to yourself as you squeezed the hand still holding yours that you would never take him for granted, would never let another day go by you don’t tell him you loved him, would never mess up your second chance with Buck.
