"I see a song of past romance, I see the sacrifice of man, I see portrayal of betrayal and a brother's final stand. I see you on the brink of death, I see you draw your final breath, I see a man who gets to make it home alive but it's no longer you."

Odysseus: You guys don't want to mess with me! Eurylochus: Yeah. He will straight up cry in public. Don't try him Odysseus: Exactly, I will stra- Odysseus: Odysseus, tearing up: Why would you say something like that?

Got hit today with the thought that Eurylochus didn't (openly and intentionally) betray Odysseus until he stopped being Odysseus.
(aka the Mutiny happening after Odysseus decided to become the Monster)
(cut to me getting sad over Eurylochus calling him "the brother I could never do without" in the Ocean Saga and how it wasn't a lie after all because the man he'll be going against won't be his bro Odysseus)

Hi! First of all I love your blog!! I’ve been relisrening to Epic like all day today with the Underworld Saga release(AMAZING) and idk if I’m slow on the uptake or whatever but I wonder if what Eurylochus wanted to confess is that he told the crew to open the bag of winds? The prophet gave me vibes he’s the one who’s going to betray Odysseus
You are almost right! Although we will never really know what Eurylochus was going to say, I don’t think it was a matter of the bag of winds. I think it was more so going to be a comment on Odysseus’ leadership style? I think this because later in song 24, which is called Mutiny, Eurylochus will lead a mutiny against Odysseus, because he doesn’t agree with how Odysseus is handling the battle of philosophy’s that he is going through. We also can pretty much assume that is what Tiresias is referring to also!!

I think this appearance of Polites and Odysseus’ mom in The Underworld- bedsides the fact that they’re dead and should be there- was to tempt Odysseus into the River Styx. I think that’s what souls do to anyone who visits.
I imagine the dead crew-mates trying to beckon their alive friends into the water so they can be together again. I imagine soldiers having to physically hold their friends back from trying to jump into the river.
I imagine Eurylochus trying his best to keep Odysseus on the ship as Polites and his mother float by. I imagine Odysseus reaching out to touch them, to talk to them, anything. Trying his best to be strong- yet he can’t help but be tempted towards the water. And his crew-mates have to hold him back more than anyone else. And only after they have passed does he snap back to reality and realize how fucking terrifying the Underworld truly is.

Every time I watch the clip for Mutiny, there's the chanting in the bg and I can only picture the crew excitedly cheering with popcorn while their captain and his mutinous second in command fucking fight to death and it's so silly

Eurylochus: Since we've left home we've faced a variety of foes from a wide range of places; gods, monsters, y'know the roster, hostile creatures that we could resist. Eurylochus, very gravely: But this was a hell of a twist, 'cause we are weak to a power like this. Odysseus, expecting something serious: What was it ? Eurylochus: A woman. Odysseus, who has never once considered anyone other than his wife: What.

Moments From Epic: the Troy Saga That Shall Live Rent Free In My Brain
The opening lines of The Horse and The Infant
"Who do you live for? Who do you fight for? Who do you wish for? Who do you try for?"
"AND TELEMAAACHUS!!!!!!!!!"
The overlapping of Zeus' and Odysseus' parts
The entirety of Just a Man
"So full speed aheaad!!!"
When Eurylochus first appears
"Watch where the birds fly. They will lead us to land!!!"
"Give me til sunrise, and if we don't return, then six hundred men can make this whole place burn!!"
"I had a challenge, a test of skill. A magic boar only the best could kill. One day a boy came for the thrill. A boy whose mind rivalled the boar's own will."
"Cause you're a warrior of the minddd!!!!!"
"Nah, don't be modest, I know you're a goddess. So let's be honest, You are Athena!! Athena!! Badass in the arena. Unmatched, witty, and queen of the best strategies we've seen."
