Captain Pike, Dean Cornwell (1892-1960)

I'm in love with this dramatic painting of a ship's officer facing Age of Sail-era justice, which was sent to me by @habemuscarnificem. After much searching online, and seeing this credited as an illustration for every maritime story from Treasure Island to Moby-Dick (neither of which involve anyone being hanged from the yardarm), I came across the painting's title, Captain Pike. However, I'm having a hard time finding out who Captain Pike was, or whether he was a real or fictional sea captain. Age of Sail Tumblr, can you help me out?

thinking about Ed Teach and "I'll take tea in my room, Izzy" again because??? he's returning to his ship (and even that isn't so clear-cut and hasn't been at any point, but presumably he expects Izzy to be holding it for him like a purse). he finds that the crew that he has been on-off maybe-captain of for a month, but doesn't know that well, is literally about to kill his First Mate, and the two people from Ed's original crew have turned on him. but there's not a sign of worry that this might mean they've turned on Ed as well, any of them. doesn't even occur to him that they wouldn't follow his orders. NO doubt that whatever has been going on, they won't jump to provide him his murder butler and sad girl tea. he doesn't even bother to put on the Blackbeard persona. and they obey.

obviously it's a sad-funny moment but I think it says SO much about 1) the level of power and authority that Ed is used to using, and 2) the level of power and authority he does have over people. thinking about him!!!

sooo, what do we know about the thunder saga 'til now?

I can’t say we know a lot, but here is what we do know!

The Thunder Saga is the 6th saga in Epic the Musical, and the 1st saga of Act 2.

It will contain 5 songs, the first two of which, nothing really is known about. There are lots of a theories about what those songs are about, but my best guess is something to do with the cows of Helios. At least one of them maybe.

The other songs in the saga are Scylla, which deals with, well, Scylla. Mutiny is next, followed by Thunder Bringer. At the end of this saga, likely in or after Thunder bringer, Odysseus is exiled to Ogygia (Calypso’s island) and the last of his crew dies.

There are several clips of the songs we do know online, and they are really good! There is definitely lots of suspense about the two unknown ones! I can’t wait to learn more about them! I’ll keep all y’all updated as we get more information!

Okay so it's been a while since I've last heard Mutiny for EPIC, but I decided to listen to it again, since @forestfullofberries pointed out that it has the ✨danger motif✨

I couldn't really find the motif because I wasn't paying attention to the music, because... the lyrics... THE LYRICS... Yeah, I can already see how Jay is gonna destroy me with that song, and I'll thank him.
