 |——————————— ⴵ ———————————|
It was late when the car came to a stop. It had been two days ago when you were told you were going to have a new foster family. You had been moving around all your life, having been left at the door of a police station merely days after you were born. You had never met your parents, and you were put into the foster system almost immediately.
No one had ever adopted you, which unfortunately for you meant that you were still going from foster family to foster family, sometimes even group homes when there were no foster families available.
In your life, you had learned it was best never to connect with your foster families. Usually, it didn't take very long until you were off to the next one anyway.
And so, two days ago when the service worker called, you had started mentally preparing for the next mess you were going to be thrown into. You had learned that most foster families were only in it for the money, and that was often very noticable, ever after the first day you'd be there. Often, they didn't care much for you, which was fine. You were perfectly capable of taking care of yourself. It was the times they did care for you when you had to be careful.
When they did care, they'd usually have a long list of ridiculous rules, all of which you had to follow. When you failed to follow their ridiculous rules, there'd usually be some type of insane punishment, which more often than not ended up with you hurt, usually because you'd take a beating.
You were a little nervous to meet a new foster family, worried they'd be another collection of horrible people that called themselves a family, yet, you weren't quite fond of the family you were with now, so you didn't care much.
For now, you'd simply hold on to the hope that this new foster family would be better than the old one.
When your case worker came, you'd already packed. Seeing as you had never owned a lot of objects, you were done rather quickly. All your stuff easily fit in one trash bag, your valuable objects, such as your beloved stuffed bunny and your favorite book were all put in your school bag.
When you had gotten into the car, you definitely didn't expect much, but when the car drove through one of the most expensive neighborhoods in New York, you were definitely surprised that that is where the car stopped.
Either your case worker was gonna leave you at the dumpster, or your new foster family is rich rich.
Alice opened the door for you with a smile, and she got your (trash) bag from the trunk. You held onto your school bag tightly as Alice walked inside the huge apartment building, you following closely behind. When you were both inside, Alice walked to the large reception desk at the left side of the lobby. A man dressed in a neat suit sat behind it.
You had never ever been in an apartment complex fancy or rich enough to have a security guard in the lobby.
You were standing next to Alice as she told the security guard you were there for a Miss Romanoff and a Miss Hill. You were looking around the large and beautiful (and extremely fancy) lobby, too busy to even notice Alice mention two women.
The man typed some numbers on some device, then pointed Alice towards the elevator. Alice walked towards it, and you followed suit, too nervous to even spare a glance towards the security guard.
Even the elevator looked fancy, and to say you were surprised when Alice pressed the penthouse button would be an understatement.
When the elevator made it all the way to the top, Alice let you walk out first. There was only one door in front of the elevator, and you figured the penthouse was the only residence on the floor. You turned to Alice, who stood there waiting for you to knock on the door. You took a deep breath and took a few steps forward, pressing the fancy looking doorbell. How rich were these people if they even had a fancy looking doorbell?
The door opened soon enough, a brunette standing in the door frame with a smile on her face. She looked nice, but in your many years of experience you had learned that looks could be very deceiving.
“You must be y/n,” she said as she looked at you, and you were too nervous to do anything but nod. She gave you a kind smile before shifting her gaze to Alice, glancing at the trash bag with concern. Alice took a step forward, extending her hand to the woman.
“You must be Miss Hill. I'm Alice, we spoke on the phone,” she mentioned as she shook the hand of Miss Hill. “I am indeed, I'm so glad you could make it.”
Miss Hill stepped aside, allowing you to look into the penthouse.
“Please come in, my girlfriend will join us shortly,” she said, and you took small steps into the apartment. Girlfriend? You could've known. She looked too well dressed to be straight…
Alice followed you inside, and stood awkwardly in the little hallway as Miss Hill closed the door. She walked in front of you and went to the right, walking into an expensive looking kitchen. It had a kitchen island, and around it were a few high stools.
“You can sit down right here if you want. Would you like anything to drink?” Miss Hill asked, and you just shook your head. She then turned to Alice, who also shook her head with a smile. “No thank you, I'll be going shortly,” she stated as she set the trash bag next to the kitchen island, reaching into her own shoulder bag for a few papers.
She pulled out a map with documents, just as another woman joined you. “Oh, Miss Romanoff, so glad I got to see you too,” Alice stated as Miss Romanoff walked towards her, shaking her hand with a small but pleasant smile.
Miss Romanoff went to stand next to Miss Hill, both standing across from you as Alice handed the map to Miss Romanoff.
“Here are the last documents, and I will be going then. If you have any questions don't hesitate to let me know, my number is somewhere in there. Of course there will be some surprise inspections, and if you would like to get rid of the child please contact the number at the bottom,” Alice stated, and you grimaced at the words she used.
Natasha was uncomfortable with the use of words as well, but you missed the worried glance she sent you and she took the documents from Alice.
You just kept your gaze on your hands, picking at the skin around your fingers as Miss Hill walked Alice out. When she returned, she took a seat, Miss Romanoff now sitting as well.
“So, y/n, I am Natasha, and this here is my girlfriend Maria. It is so nice to meet you,” Natasha smiled, but you kept your gaze on your hands. When Natasha noticed you weren't going to reply, she continued speaking. “I know this must be very scary for you, but I just want you to know it's a little scary for us as well. This is our first time fostering anyone, so if we make any mistakes you just let us know okay?” Natasha asked, and you just nodded your head.
“So where are all your bags? Is someone bringing them over later or?...” Maria asked, and you glanced at her slightly before pointing towards the trash bag. “Those are my clothes…” you said in a quiet voice, and it took everything in Natasha to not say how ridiculous that was.
“Okay, we'll just have to get you a proper bag then, huh?” Maria said kindly,  before standing up. “Would you like to see your room?” Maria then asked, and you nodded as you stood up too, going to grab the trash bag. “It's okay, I got it,” Natasha mentioned as she bent down, picking it up. “It's just this way,” Maria said as she led you through a hallway.
She opened a door that carried an empty name plate, pushing it open and standing aside.
“We didn't really know what you liked, but we tried our best. If you would like to change anything, maybe paint a wall or get some decorations you just let us know okay?” Natasha said, and you nodded as you put your school bag down by the bed, sitting on it.
“All this is for me?” you asked as you looked around the room, taking in all the objects already in it. The desk and cabinets were empty, so were the walls, but the room was massive.
Natasha nodded with a smile, walking into the room and turning to the door on the right. She opened it and stepped aside. “This is your bathroom, and right there is the closet,” she said as she pointed to another door next to the bathroom.
“I have my own bathroom?” you questioned in disbelief, and Natasha nodded with a smile.
“There is another closet right here,” she said as she opened another door, a small, undeep closet revealing itself. At the door hung a mat with little pockets, all filled with different snacks and treats.
“We didn't really know what you liked, so we just bought a little bit of everything. These are all yours and you can eat them whenever you like. If anything ever runs out or if you would like some other snack or treats, just let us know and we can get it for you,” she explained, and you nodded with a small smile as you stared at all the treats and snacks.
You had never really gotten any treats or snacks, and you didn't exactly have your own money to buy it.
Maria stayed at the door, wanting to give you your space while getting used to the new environment. “We'll just go and get started with dinner, so we'll leave you to settle in a little bit. Is there anything specific you'd like to eat? We can always order something, I'm never one to skip a good take-out meal,” Maria smiled, and Natasha walked to her side.
You shrugged, not really knowing what to say.
“We could order pizza? Or maybe sushi? Anything is okay,” Natasha pushed when she realized you weren't going to say anything yourself.
“Pizza?” you asked quietly, and Natasha smiled and nodded. “Pizza it is. Do you want a specific one?” Natasha asked as she pulled out her phone, and you shook your head softly.
“Just a margarita pizza please?” you asked, and Natasha nodded.
“We'll just be in the kitchen if you need us,” Maria told you, and she and Natasha left the room, closing the door behind them.
You dumped your clothes on the bed, throwing the trash bag aside and going through them. Most of them were old and worn, but they still fit so no one ever decided you needed new clothes. After you folded them all neatly you walked to the closet, surprised at how big it was. Your clothes didn't even fill 10% of the closet, and you wondered if rich people really needed that many clothes.
Natasha and Maria seemed like really nice people, and even though you'd never admit it, you were excited you got to be with them.
Of course you'd never trust some so fast, but until now they seemed nice and decent. The closet full of snacks definitely made you like them a little more, but you were still hesitant. You'd been in other families where they seemed nice at first, but the moment you'd make a mistake they'd beat you. You shuddered at the thoughts, grabbing a little bag of your favorite candy you found in the closet.
You sat on the bed and took out your stuffed bunny, sitting against the headboard and holding the bunny close.
You were scared and intimidated at this new place, but you were also happy you weren't at the other home anymore. Until now, this place seemed like a much better home to be.
-------------------------------------------------------------
After dinner, where you had mainly kept quiet and tried to avoid the questions they asked you, you went to your room and went straight into your bed.
You didn't sleep the entire night. You didn't know these people, and you were afraid they'd come into your room and hurt you. That happened once, in a foster family you had about a year ago. The foster father had gone into your room and he had touched you, hurting you more than you ever thought was possible.
Since that foster home, you'd always stay awake the first night, wanting to be ready if one of the foster parents did come into your room.
Of course, tonight, nothing happened. Natasha and Maria had gone to bed shortly after you had, and the entire apartment was quiet. When the sun rose the next morning, you knew you had to ask either Natasha or Maria for some electronic device.
You didn't have a phone or computer, but you were homeschooled and followed an online program. With all the moving around and switching homes, it was always difficult to find a high school you could consistently go to. And so, you had gotten an online course and some data to login. However, you'd need an electronic device for that, and you didn't have that.
When you walked into the kitchen around 8 am, Natasha and Maria were already awake. Maria was sitting at the kitchen counter, doing something on her laptop as she ate some toasts. Natasha was scrambling some eggs at the stove.
When Maria noticed you, she smiled and closed her laptop. "Good morning. How'd you sleep?” she asked and you shrugged. “Fine,” you said even though you knew damn well you hadn't slept at all.
“How do you like your eggs?” Natasha then asked, turning to you shortly before focusing on the eggs in the pan again.
“Scrambled is good,” you said as you sat down at the counter as well, preparing yourself to ask your question. After you took a deep breath and Natasha put some toast with eggs in front of you, you looked up, not really facing anyone but the counter top.
“So I was wondering…” you started carefully, and both Maria and Natasha looked at you as they waited for you to continue.
“I am doing online school, and I was just wondering if there is maybe an electronic device I could use? I don't have a phone or anything, but I do kinda need it…” you finished, your eyes darting around to Natasha, Maria and then back to the counter top again.
“Of course. We can do some shopping today, to get you some essentials,” Maria said as she got up, opening the fridge and grabbing some orange juice.
Your eyes widened slightly. They couldn't possibly mean they'd buy you a phone, could they?
-------------------------------------------------------------
After breakfast you, Maria and Natasha had gotten into their car. Their very expensive, very beautiful car. Natasha drove as Maria sat next to her. After about half an hour's drive, you arrived at a mall, and Maria opened the door for you. You thanked her and got out, following Natasha and Maria as they walked inside.
Once inside, the first place they headed for was an apple store. You were shocked to say the least, really hoping they weren't going to spend so much money on you.
When you entered the store, a worker came towards you three, asking if you needed help. Natasha said yes and asked him for the best phone they offered.
The worker led you there, and Natasha thanked him as she picked it up, examining it. You stared at the phone wide-eyed, but more so at the price. That phone was higher than 1.500 euros, and you didn't believe they'd actually buy that for you.
“Well, it looks great, what color would you like?” Natasha smiled as she went to pick up a box from the shelf.
You shook your head in shock, not believing they'd buy something like that for you. “I meant… like a device you have… that I could use… I didn't mean…” you stuttered out, and Natasha smiled as Maria laid a reassuring hand on your shoulder.
“Listen, sweetie, we just wanna get you everything you need. I promise you that we want to do this, okay? And you don't have to feel guilty that we're spending money on you, because we want to,” she told you.
Natasha looked at you too, smiling reassuringly. “We have plenty of money, and we can buy this for you easily. I promise you,” she explained.
“Okay…” you said quietly, still a bit unsure.
Natasha smiled and walked towards the phone cases, Maria, with her hand still on your shoulder followed her. “You can pick out any case you like,” Natasha explained, and you nodded as you picked out a clear case. Natasha smiled as she took it from you, putting it in her basket. Why did she need a basket?
After picking out the phone case, Natasha walked towards the ipads, looking over them and settling on the most expensive one, convinced that that would be the best.
You were about to protest, but before you could even open your mouth, Natasha turned to you. “You can't possibly do online school on a phone now, can you?”
“I really don't want you to spend so much money on me…” you told her, and she smiled at you before picking up the same color ipad the phone was. Then she turned to you, putting her hand on your shoulder.
“We want to get you whatever you need, and the money is not an issue for us, I promise you. Please let us get you what you need,” Natasha told you, and you simply nodded.
Natasha smiled and made you pick out a case, putting a keyboard case in her basket as well, claiming it was so you could use the ipad for school. You insisted you didn't need it, but Natasha just said they'd buy it just in case then.
After the most expensive trip to a store you had ever taken, resulting in an iphone, an ipad and airpods you really didn't expect them asking if you were okay to go to another store.
You said you were fine, and so you walked into another store where Natasha and Maria got you all kinds of things. All things for your bedroom, either to decorate or use. They had told you to pick out whatever you wanted, and after a lot of reassurance you had picked out several books, notebooks, some pens, markers and pencils, and some other stuff you liked.
They also let you pick out new covers for your bed, and after you told them you were fine with the cover that was on now, they told you that was one of their covers so you could pick some new ones out.
The cover currently on your bed was a new one Natasha and Maria had bought especially for your arrival, but you didn't need to know that. They wanted you to pick something you liked, and soon enough you left the store with some pillows, stuffed animals and new covers.
Everytime you came out of a store, you three had to take a trip to the car to dump the stuff you bought before you could continue your shopping spree, but at the end of the day you really had fun.
You felt a little bad that they spent so much money on you, but with their constant reassurance that they wanted to do it and that they had plenty of money, you felt a little better about it.
After you had gotten back home, Natasha and Maria both helped you put all your new stuff away, and you think you thanked them at least a thousand times for everything they bought you. After everything was put away, you went to the kitchen, sitting on the stool as the apple store bag was still on the counter.
Maria started dinner as Natasha sat down with you.
You opened the bag and took out the iphone first, opening it carefully and setting it up. Natasha helped unpack the case and handed it to you when you had set the iphone up.
You couldn't help but smile at your very first phone. You weren't old or anything, but you were definitely at an age where it was odd you still didn't have a phone. When you unpacked the ipad it was the same. You unpacked it and set it up, while Natasha took the cases out of the packaging and handed them to you.
After everything was taken care of, you thanked them once again, and they once again told you it was their absolute pleasure.
Maybe this foster home would be different…

Maria: When me and Nat are fighting, i go into the kitchen and tighten the lids on all the jars.
Maria: That way, if she wants pickles, she'll have to come talk to me.
*Sound of glass shattering from the other room*
Maria: It hasn't worked yet, but it's going to, some day.

Hi! Prompt idea here! I love domestic parent Blackhill and SHIELD canteen Blackhill fics if you're up for some!! No worries if not. I hope you get over your writers block!!
Hello! Thank you so much! I’m a sucker for the domestic/parents troupe! Hope you enjoy!
Starlight
You know, it really would be nice to get a full night of sleep. That clearly wasn’t going to happen anymore.
Sasha was a relatively easy baby during the day; ate well, never fused, slept through her naps- honestly, she was a pure Angel. At least until the sun went down. When night rolled around, for some reason unknown to Nat and Maria, the crying would start. They had Bruce do a few examinations, worried that something could be wrong, but all the test came back clear.
“So how come she won’t sleep,” asked Maria, bouncing her currently peaceful daughter gently in her arms. Bruce shrugged.
“Sometimes baby’s just cry. There’s not a lot you can do about it. Me and Thor didn’t sleep for the first two months for Freya.”
“Wow, thanks for that reassuring story-“
“Thank you, Bruce,” interjected Nat, knowing that Maria was to exhausted to watch her tone. “You did everything you could.”
“If you two need anything, let me know,” said Bruce with a sheepish smile. He watched as the women left his lab, a twinge of guilt in his chest.
And so, Maria and Nat did all they could to try and keep Sasha asleep. When the stuffed animals didn’t work, they moved to white noise. When that didn’t work, they tried a lavender diffuser. That didn’t work either. It seemed that no matter what they did, Sasha could not make it through the night without crying.
“I don’t understand,” sighed Nat, rocking her crying daughter back and forth while Maria poured her another cup of coffee, “what are we doing wrong?”
“I don’t think it’s us, babe. I mean, Bruce said-“
“Yes, I know what Bruce said! Jeez…I’m sorry, hun, I’m just-“
“It’s alright, Nat.”
Maria pressed a soft kiss to her wife’s brow before holding out her arms, silently offering to hold Sasha. Nat passed her over before taking a long sip of pure caffeine.
“Nat, that’s my mug.”
“Crap- sorry-“
“It’s ok-“
“Wait, I thought my mug was the black one?”
“No, mine is black. Yours is off black.”
“Maria, I love you, but what the hell is ‘off black?’”
“Watch your mouth, Sasha’s gonna pick up on what you say!”
“Sasha can’t even sit up by herself yet!”
Maria mumbled something under her breath, sitting down at the kitchen island next to Nat. She shook her head.
“I think we’re both going crazy.”
Nat snorted, a smirk graving her lips.
“You think?”
The two looked down at their daughter, who’s crying was still going strong. Maria sighed.
“…I wonder if this has anything to do with what happened,” she whispered, hugging Sasha closer. Nat bit her lip.
They had adopted Sasha after a mission over seas. Her parents had been killed by Hydra, and she was found alone in her crib by Nat. The moment she saw her, she informed the team, who passed the information along to SHIELD. With in five minutes, backup arrived to escort Nat and the baby into the helicarrier. After a week of searching for any potential living family, it was confirmed that Sasha was now in fact completely alone.
Something about the whole situation hit Nat harder than she expected. She knew what it was like to grow up without a family. An orphan. Alone. She couldn’t just let this baby be taken away and tossed from home to home. So, after long discussions with Maria and SHIELD, the couple officially adopted Sasha. The became mothers to a beautiful, strong little girl overnight.
And yet Nat couldn’t shake that terrible feeling.
“…I hope it doesn’t.”
Maria scanned her wife’s face, sensing that dread she rarely discussed.
“Hey,” she whispered, nudging Nat’s shoulder slightly, “she’s gonna be ok. We’re gonna be ok. Alright?”
“…Alright.”
“You’re a great mother, Nat. Sasha adores you.”
Nat nodded, sinking further into her seat. After a moment of comforting silence, Maria stood up suddenly.
“You ok?”
“I have an idea!”
Without a word, Maria ran to the cabinet and pulled out a strainer. She headed to the nursery, Nat close behind her.
“What are you doing?”
“Go grab the flashlight in the hallway closet,” commanded Maria, ignoring Nat’s question. With great confusion, the spy did as told.
She came back into the nursery, instantly having Sasha deposited into her arms. Maria sat on the ground, turning the flashlight to its highest setting. She faced it up, put the strainer over the top, and-
“Woah…”
Faux stars filled the room. Almost instantly, Sasha’s attention was caught. She gazed around the room, teary eyes wide and small mouth agape. Then, she did something they didn’t expect.
She started laughing.
“How’d you do that,” asked Nat, looking down at Maria as Sasha reached her arms up as if to grasp the lights. She shrugged.
“My dad used to do this when I was little. He said it always helped calm me down.”
The women watched as slowly but surely, Sasha settled down. Soon enough, she was asleep. Nat placed her hesitantly in her crib, holding her breath as she backed away. She remained asleep.
“Holy shit…”
“Langu-“
“-Language, yeah…I can’t believe that worked.”
“Heh, what can I say,” smirked Maria, “I’m getting the hang of this whole ‘mom’ thing.”
Nat silently sat down next to her wife, staring up at the ceiling of flashlight stars.
“Maybe we could get some of those glow in the dark stickers for her. That might work.”
“I’ll get those first thing in the morning.”
“I’ll get them- you already did this.”
“Natasha, it’s not that big of-“
“Hush and let me do it…I love you.”
“I love you too.”
Maria rested her head against Nat’s shoulder, both of them gazing up at the night sky they had made.

blackhill: song association (part 3)
you get me so high - the neighborhood
“wish i didn’t doubt it, wish i never ever told you all about it but i just had to let you know, i never meant to hurt you, though” one of them for whatever reason, begins doubting the relationship or doubting other and opens up about that doubt except now it’s cause a strain or damage to their relationship and now whoever told regrets it even if it needed to happen
needy - ariana grande
NATASHA Natasha natasha !!! "sorry if i'm up and down a lot, sorry that i think i'm not enough and sorry if i say sorry way too much" this just screams nat honestly. like maria is her first stable, relationship where her feelings are considered and her voice means something; so its intense and she's always scared something will go wrong.
505 - arctic monkeys
honestly, i don't have anything to say. it's just a song that screams THEM! like it's their song and it just makes sense.
stay - miley cyrus
angst. AnGsT. ANGST! "and I love you more than i did before and if today i don't see your face nothing's changed no one could take your place it gets harder every day say you love me more, than you did before and I'm sorry it's this way but i'm coming home, i'll be coming home and if you ask me i will stay, i will stay" so they've broken up for whatever reason because they thought it would best except they're miserable without each other. they've realized that being apart actually made them love each MORE and when they see each other again, they'll stay to make it work
the one that got away - katy perry
"in another life i would be your girl we keep all our promises be us against the world In another life i would make you stay so i don't have to say you were the one that got away" "i should've told you what you meant to me" high school lovers to enemies to lovers!!!! so, they dated when they were in high school and for reasons unknown, they don't last. fast forward, they're adults and yes, they're STILL hung up on each other but they were each other's great love, and now "in another life" they get a second chance to fix it
let her go - passenger
"staring at the ceiling in the dark same old empty feeling in your heart cause love comes slow, and it goes so fast well, you see her when you fall asleep but never to touch and never to keep cause you loved her too much, and you dived too deep" this is after nat is dead, maria is deeply depressed (naturally) and she always dreams about her but when she wakes up, she's alone with no natasha and it just hurts
give your heart a break - demi lovato
this can actually be told from either of their pov's. both of them have just been through too goddamn much romantically. "don't wanna break your heart wanna give your heart a break i know your scared it's wrong like you might make a mistake there's just one life to live and there's no time to wait to waste so let me give your heart a break" nat would definitely be worried about making mistakes "cause you been hurt before i can see it in your eyes you try to smile it away some things you can't disguise don't wanna break your heart baby i can ease the ache" maria would be worried about nat hurting her like she's been hurt in the past
drive - halsey
you know, they could be dying and still wouldn't admit their feelings for each other. this song is just them PINING after one another, it's RIDICULOUS. "your laugh, echoes down the hallway carves into my hollow chest, spreads over the emptiness it's bliss It's so simple but we can't stay over analyze again, would it really kill you if we kissed" they want each other so BAD! they spend so much time together that it's almost domestic at this point but of course they still won't admit their feelings "all we do is drive all we do is think about the feelings that we hide all we do is sit in silence waiting for a sign sick and full of pride all we do is drive" in conclusion, they want (and need) to kiss !

Hi! 😊
I don't know if you still are open to recieve Maria Hill prompts but I'm just going to leave this here, just in case.
So I was thinking about something happy since I want to take my mind off of everything that happened in Secret Invasion.
Maria finds herself unexpectedly with a day off, so she decides to head out to her favorite bookstore for some leisurely browsing. But when she arrives, she is shocked to find none other than Natasha already there. They, you know, spend the day together, talking and reading and joking and at the end of the day before they part ways Maria realizes that she can't keep her feelings for Natasha hiden anymore, so she confessed to Nat that she has a long-time crush on her.
Nat just admits that she also loves Maria and they hug and kiss at the end and just happy BlackHill couple without any angst.
I hope this makes sense 😅
Thank you! 🧡
Okay so, I wanted to finish this before the next episode came out BUT this prompt grabbed me by my domestic fluff loving throat and it's ended up longer than 1k. Unfortunately, I've been super busy lately BUT hopefully this'll get done by the end of the week? I'll probably post it to Ao3 as it's getting a little longer than drabble length. Hopefully the next SI episode won't leave us in such dire need, but I can't say I have my hopes up...
All this to say, it's coming! I just liked the prompt so much that it's getting a little upgrade <3

So Charlie needed some cheering up yesterday and as a result I wrote some domestic floof for my favorite two idiots.
Natasha is good at a great many things. She’s an excellent spy, for one, and a fantastic shot for another. She knows multiple languages and martials arts, and she has enough knowledge in virtually any topic to make small talk. She’s a graceful dancer and a talented singer, though those aren’t skills she uses very often these days. She’s smart and thinks on her feet and she’s fast enough to keep up with Steve for a little while when they run together.
The one thing Natasha isn’t good at, however, is cooking. She’s tried, many times, and even following recipes doesn’t seem to help. She watches other people do it and nothing about it looks complicated so she doesn’t understand why it’s so difficult for her. She’s even asked Laura for help but nothing works. She just cannot cook. She somehow manages to burn water even when she keeps a close eye on it. Her pasta is always too salty, her pre-made oven pizza always ends up burned, and any veggies she tries to prepare turn up black or otherwise overdone. Natasha knows when something is beyond her skillset but it still irks her that she’s incapable of something so simple.
Maria has forbidden her to enter the kitchen when she’s making food because somehow just having Natasha there is already a bad omen. She does let her help with chopping veggies and preparing. Natasha can do that without any issues. It’s the actual cooking that doesn’t work for her and Maria has learned that early on in their relationship. She doesn’t mind being in charge of dinner for the both of them. Maria likes cooking; it relaxes her after a long day at work. Natasha sets the table each evening and kisses her cheek to thank her for making the food. Maria is an excellent cook after all.
It’s been a really long week for both Natasha and Maria. It’s Saturday and Maria is stuck at work, dealing with yet another crisis. Natasha is lounging on the couch, trying to think of something to cheer her up with when she gets home. She likes doing that. Natasha still isn’t very good at these things but she always tries and Maria always tells her when something works and when it doesn’t. Natasha appreciates that because she loves Maria and wants to do things right.
She gets up when she has an idea and checks the pantry and the entirety of the kitchen but doesn’t find what she’s looking for. She grabs her keys and heads out to go to the supermarket down the street. It doesn’t take her long to find the aisle she needs but Natasha isn’t prepared for the choice she’s presented with. There are dozens of different packages for making cookies, not to mention even more for brownies and muffins. She’s a little lost because Maria’s never baked anything and Natasha doesn’t know what her favorite is. She stands in front of the boxes uselessly but eventually grabs the chocolate chip cookie box. She can’t go wrong with that.
Once back home, she sets the box down on the kitchen counter to read over the instructions. How difficult can it possibly be? She’s seen Clint’s kids bake cookies like these. If they can do it, so can Natasha. She’s never tried baking before so, honestly, she has no idea how this is supposed to go. It can’t be worse than her attempts at cooking though.
She opens the box and gets all the contents out, laying them out on the counter. There’s some pre-made dough and that’s it. It’s not exactly what she’s been expecting but the easier she starts, the better. Probably. Fewer steps give her less possibilities of messing something up. Then again, she burns water. Natasha forces herself to focus and checks the instructions again. It all sounds really easy. She pre-heats the oven and then gets the dough out of the package. She grabs a bottle because they never bake and so they don’t have a rolling pin in their kitchen, and starts rolling out the dough. It’s very sticky though and Natasha realizes she’s missing something. She’s pretty sure it isn’t supposed to stick so much. A quick google search lets her know she’s missing flour and she finds some in a kitchen cabinet. She covers the counter with it and then the bottle, as well as the dough, just in case, and then she tries again. It’s much better this time and she smiles. This is good. Her hands are still full of flour though and she spreads it on her cheeks when she pushes her hair back out of her face. She rolls the dough out until she’s happy with it but it’s a little uneven. It’s very thin on the outside and quite a bit thicker in the middle but she figures that more cookie is good so she doesn’t try to fix it. She checks all the cabinets for some forms to use to cut out the cookies but they don’t even bake Christmas cookies so there’s nothing. She grabs a knife instead and carefully cuts out some circles. They’re not perfect but they will do. Natasha grabs a tray and some baking paper and puts all of her cookies on it. She double checks the instructions to get the temperature and baking time right and adjusts the temperature on the oven before putting the tray in.
She doesn’t stay in the kitchen but she does set a timer because she’s worried she’ll forget and burn them. She throws the package and then goes back to the couch to watch some TV.
When Maria comes home half an hour later, Natasha is sulking in the kitchen. It smells like cookies and Maria follows the scent to find Natasha sitting on the counter, picking at her cookies. Half of them are overdone and the other half is under baked. Natasha pouts at them.
“Hey,” Maria says, taking in the scene.
“Hey…”
“What’s going on?”
“I wanted to make you cookies because it’s been such a long week full of bullshit…” Natasha starts, looking up at her with a pout, “I can’t bake either.”
Maria smiles at her fondly and steps closer to wipe away the flour still on her face. Natasha is quite the sight. Maria very much appreciates the thought and attempt, even if it ended up with mostly inedible cookies. She kisses her nose and smiles at her, cupping both her cheeks.
“It’s sweet that you tried. Maybe next time we can try it together, yeah?”
Natasha looks at the mess she’s made while baking and sighs. She’s honestly not sure there’s any hope for her. This went the same way her cooking attempts go. She looks back at Maria and the fond smile still on her face makes Natasha smile contently too. She doesn’t mind trying again if Maria is there with her.
“Okay.”
Maria kisses her softly and then tries one of the over baked cookies. It’s a little hard and dry but it’s not so bad.
“I think we can get it right together next time.”
“You’re just being nice.”
Maria chuckles and tucks a stray strand of hair back behind Natasha’s ear. She doesn’t pout often but this is really important to her and she messed it up.
“I love you.”
Natasha smiles again and she says it back before hopping off the counter to clean up. Maria helps her, despite Natasha’s arguments, and they’re done in record time. Maria takes the chance to wrap her arms around Natasha’s middle and pull her into a hug. Natasha rests her head against her chest.
“Sorry I messed up the cookies.”
“Don’t worry about it,” Maria promises, “This is the sweetest thing anyone’s ever done for me.”
She kisses the top of Natasha’s head and Natasha smiles against her. That alone was worth it then, even if she failed at actually baking. They can try it again together. Natasha thinks she can’t possibly get it wrong with Maria’s help because Maria makes everything in her life better.

Dysania
Prompt: “Dysania- the state of finding it hard to get out of bed in the morning.”
Word Count: 795
Rating: T+
Warnings: Death
A/N: I’m a little nervous about this one because I’ve never written children before and I think my characterization of Maria is completely off... really this oneshot is completely new territory for me. Please bear with me on this one!
“Maria,” Natasha says, a sparkle in her green eyes, “let’s do it.”
“Yeah?” Maria responds as Natasha’s hand clutches onto hers, the band on her ring finger shining as they sit on their couch. “Really?”
“Of course,” Natasha smiles and even though they’ve been married for five years, Maria thinks she can’t get enough of that grin; Natasha’s green eyes lit up, red hair shining in the sun, her face brighter than anything Maria’s seen before.
Maria lets out a squeal as she leans in and catches Natasha’s lips with hers.
“We’re going to adopt?” Maria asks as she pulls back, her voice excited, happy.
“Yes!” Natasha replies, leaning in to kiss Maria again with a grin, the sun pouring in from the windows and everything’s almost perfect.
---
“One more,” Natasha says, packing her bag, “and then I’m done. No more missions.”
“Promise?” Maria asks and Natasha nods, slinging her bag over her shoulder before walking over to the doorway where a little boy is standing.
“‘S mommy gonna go save the world again?” he asks and Natasha opens her arms and picks him up, their four-year-old son letting out a little squeal as he’s hoisted up.
“Yeah,” Natasha responds, staring their son, Nikolas in his clear blue eyes that are almost identical to Maria’s and Natasha swears that if it wasn’t for the fact that he was found in an abandoned building in Sokovia, he could’ve had half of Maria’s genes because the kid was a spitting image of his mom.
“One last time, okay Nicky?” Natasha asks, and the boy gives her a nod before letting out a yawn. Natasha leans in and gives him a kiss on the forehead before giving him to Maria, planting a kiss on Maria’s lips before stepping back, slightly smirking at the “eww” coming from her son.
“I love you guys,” Natasha says at the doorway to their apartment.
“I love you too,” Maria replies, giving her another kiss before Natasha steps back, giving one last look to her family before disappearing out the door.
---
It’s one of those days where the memories keep on playing over and over again in Maria’s head and she finds it hard to get out of bed, the empty space next to her a reminder of what’s gone.
Natasha’s last words to her were “I love you,” and she’s grateful for that, but she just wants to feel Natasha’s lips against hers one more time, feel Natasha’s embrace, feel Natasha’s head resting against her chest, feel Natasha.
Most days it’s not so bad; most days she climbs out of bed, gulps down a cup of coffee before driving down to Stark Industries, always wearing a piece of black clothing, but there are some days like these where she’s just thinking of Natasha.
She tells herself she’ll get out of bed in five minutes, but then ten minutes have passed and she’s still thinking of those green eyes, the red hair and it feels like her heart is being ripped out of her chest once again.
It had been a mission gone bad, apparently, with one person entering the building and none coming out, only fire and smoke and ruins left behind.
Maria remembers her knees buckling when she saw Steve at her door instead of Natasha, how she’d cried and sobbed until there she felt empty inside, remember’s Nicky’s pudgy arms wrapping around her neck as Steve awkwardly stood there, his expression sorrowful.
Maria suddenly hears a light knocking at her open bedroom door as Nicky stands at the doorway, his backpack slung over his shoulder from school earlier, a worried expression on his face.
“Mom? Is it a bad day again?” His voice is gentle as Maria stares at the ceiling, unmoving.
“Yeah,” Maria finally replies, her voice slightly hoarse from not being used in so long. “It’s been such a long time but-” she takes a deep breath, feeling the tears prickle at the corners of her eyes, “I still miss her so much.”
“Tell me about her,” Nicky says as he sits down on her bed, his fourteen-year-old self weighing the mattress down a little in a position he’s been in many times, and Maria’s grateful that he’s here because he fills some of the void that was left when Natasha died.
And Maria lets out a little smile as she remembers the little details; the way Natasha fiddled with her thumb when she was anxious, the way her eyes crinkled at the edges when she smiled, the way her face lit up when Maria cooked homemade lasagna.
“Your mother- she just had the brightest smile…”
Maria talks and she can almost feel Natasha’s presence, and inside her, the void starts to fill, little by little.

I'm new to the Natasha/Maria pairing and I just finished Gone to the Dogs. Do you have other "classic" recommendations?
omg welcome to the fandom!!! we are so glad to have you! and i'm so sorry this took so long!! i promise i didn't forget about it, i have just been a bit busy lol. anyways, here are some of my favorite "classic" blackhill fics
Weekend Plans by avesnongrata: this is one of the authors of gone to the dogs, so if you enjoyed that fic, i highly recommend this one as well! it has a nice mix of fluff and angst.
The Devil's Keeper by TheTruthAboutLove: oh my goddddd i'm obsessed with this fic!! it's a 161k time travel inhuman au and it is PHENOMINAL. the way the author weaves together the different plot lines is just *chef's kiss*. since it does have time travel, it might be a little confusing at first but i promise that it all comes together in the end
The Perfect Girlfriend by TheTruthAboutLove: OK so this is my favorite blackhill fic ever and may or may not be my favorite fic of all time. it's a fake dating fic FILLED with domestic fluff and soft angst. like i said, it's my fav
Water Lilies at Sunset by Dancing_Bean: there is so much domestic family fluff in this one!! i'm not sure your opinion on clint barton's family, but they are absolutely lovely in this fic. we also get to see nat and maria being Good Moms tm to wanda!!
flawed enough (but perfect for a person) by Crimsoncat: if you're looking for smut, try this one!! (it is a sex pollen fic so if that's not your thing, maybe not this one). tragically, it's on hiatus but the angst and smut is just too good
The Way That It Goes [What Nobody Knows] by sinandmisery: basically just nat being super oblivious. fluffy and fun
I build each one of my days out of hope (and I give that hope your name) and Five times Natasha says I love you (without actually saying I love you), both by Crimsoncat: little collections of moments between nat and maria
The Lost Moments by RenaM: probably one of the best fix-it fics i've ever read!! the way that the blackhill moments are seamlessly incorporated into canon events is just SO smooth. super cute, but does get a bit angsty at times
anyways i hope this was helpful! happy reading and welcome to the fandom!! :)

lesbian fury interview with vogue
You’re married?
MH: Yes, I’ve been married for almost 10 years now and no, I’m telling anyone her name.
MH: Yes, I’ve been married for almost 10 years now and no, I’m telling anyone her name.
Do you like her wife? Without revealing any details about her, what is she like?
CD: She’s a pain in the ass. [laughs] But, I love her; she’s like a little sister to me.
MR: Maria’s wife is great. She’s a troublemaker like Carol here, so it’s chaos when they’re together. I don’t know how Maria and I put up with them.
CD: We aren’t that bad!
MH: You once pranked the entire studio with glitter and confetti. The confetti was easy to get up, but the mic was sparkly for 3 months!
In one interview, Carol said she writes songs about Maria [Rambeau] and vice versa. Which songs were written about who?
CD: Still Into You. It was a spur of the moment song. I had just been thinking of how we were nearing our 10 year anniversary and Maria never fails to give me butterflies, even now. So, I went to Maria [Hill] who helped me finish writing and producing. After she finished laughing at me.
MH: You were shaking like a chihuahua and you were so nervous. I should’ve taken a picture.
CD: It’s not funny, Hill. I hadn’t been that nervous since my wedding day.
MH: It was a great song, you should be thanking me.
MR: Anyway, The Shining, the 3rd song on our new album, was written for Carol. Maria’s wife actually helped me with it. She even helped compose parts of the song.
MH: She did? She never told me that.
Maria [Hill] have you written any songs about your wife?
MH: I’ve written a lot of songs about my wife, she’s my muse after all, but our recent song Trouble is about her.
Why did you name it Trouble?
MH: No real reason, I just happened to enjoy the title and like Maria [Rambeau] said she is a troublemaker.
Your 4th album Fury of the Gods is currently doing well on the charts? Trouble is number 2 and The Shining is number 4. How does that feel?
MR: It feels amazing. This isn’t our first album to do well, but so much goes into them that we appreciate everything our fans do to make them do that well.
Your 2nd tour starts soon, is it going to be international or only domestic?
CD: It’s going to be international. We’re going to start in Maria [Rambeau] and I’s home town of Louisiana and end in Maria’s hometown of Chicago.
What can fans expect from the tour? Any surprises or new music?
MH: Both. I have a big surprise planned at the end of the tour.
Could you elaborate?
MH: Nope.
MR: [laughing] You’re not going to get anything out of her. She’s like a vault.
Your fans have often stated that you 3 are lesbian icons and being in mainstream media has helped them be comfortable with themselves. How does it feel to know that?
MR: There weren’t many people who looked like me in the media, let alone were lesbians too. When I get letters from fans and or meet them, they always thank me for making them feel seen, and I realize I’m the role model I never had.
CD: When I grew up, there weren’t any lesbians to look up too, so I’m happy to be the person I never had.
MH: Like Carol said, she’s happy to the person she never had and so am I. I didn’t grow up with a supportive family, so if I can be one person’s support system, then I’ll be that.
russian roulette interview with vanity fair
When you hear the phrase ‘Russian Roulette’ you may think of the deadly game played with a gun; but if you’re a music fan you think of the Eastern European band. The band composed of Russian sisters Natalia ‘Natasha’ Romanoff and Yelena Belova, and Sokovian native Wanda Maximoff are signed to Avengers Inc. These 3 queer women (Natasha is a lesbian, Wanda is pansexual, and Yelena is an asexual lesbian) dropped their 3rd album Melodrama on Friday and fans are obsessed.
Band Members Wanda Maximoff and Yelena Belova are in a relationship and have been for 5 years. The couple recently got engaged. Natasha’s relationship status is unknown.
“So, Wanda, Yelena, who proposed to who?”
WM: Yelena actually proposed with an acoustic version of Everything I Wanted. This was before anyone aside from her and Natasha had heard it, so I was shocked to say the least. [laughs] I cried like a baby.
That sounds beautiful. Yelena, what was the inspiration behind the song?
YB: I had this recurring dream — it was a nightmare really — that Wanda would one day leave me. Her leaving was a thought that was always in the back of my head, especially after I came out as asexual. However, the reality was completely different. Wanda was so accepting of it and even did research to get a better understanding of what asexuality was and how to navigate our relationship. The song was an expression of how I had been feeling at the time.
Natasha, the song Cinnamon Girl is on this album. In previous interviews, you said the song would remain unreleased. What changed your mind?
NR: It felt right. I was finally ready to let it go and share it with the world.
What was the inspiration behind the song?
NR: When I wrote Cinnamon Girl, I was healing from a bad relationship that had happened 2 years prior. I had also been in a relationship for 5 months with the woman I’m currently married to. At the time, she didn't know many details of that relationship, just how it affected me, but she was so patient and loving and it was new to me. I didn't know how to express my feelings, so I wrote them in a song which she heard me playing. I opened up to her that night and a few days later, she helped me finish it.
How long have you been married?
NR: Since 2013, and that’s all I’m saying on the matter.
Natasha, Lesbian Fury singer Maria Hill recently revealed she’s married. Many fans have speculated that since you run in the same
circles, that you’re her wife. What do you have to say to that?
NR: My wife’s gonna be pissed. [laughs] However, I will say that Maria Hill would be lucky to have me as her wife.
Melodrama came out Friday and so far the top 3 favorites from fans have been Sober II, Sorry, and Love in the Dark. What are your favorites from the album?
YB: Coming Down. I rarely say this because she gets a big head about it, but Natasha is an excellent song writer and Coming Down is some of her best work. Which isn’t surprising considering she wrote it about her wife and Natalia always writes the best songs about her.
NR: That is the nicest thing you’ve said about me all week.
WM: Supercut. I just love it. And I think it’s beautiful. I’m actually the one who picked it for the album because it’s my favorite.
NR: Simple, Miss Americana & The Heartbreak Prince.
Can we expect a tour soon?
YB: You’ll just have to wait and see.
Your fans have talked about how you’re all so inspiring to them and how being unapologetically yourselves has helped them; what do you have to say to that?
WM: Honestly, if we can help even one person feel like themselves, then it’s worth it. I love knowing that our music and personalities help others.
YB: When I was figuring out my sexuality, Natasha was the only one who knew and even then, I was scared to tell her. She helped me come to terms with myself and if I happen to be the person that they need, then I’ll be that.
NR: Everyone needs someone and if we’re not able to reply to all the fans, or see them in person; knowing that we’re able to reach all of them is everything I’ve dreamed of.
natasha and maria’s house; location unknown
Maria walked into her and Natasha’s house exhausted. She loved her job but it could be tiring with all the press and media. It’s even worse because she can’t be seen with Nat out in public so they haven’t been able to have much time together even though they were at the same place at the same time. She left her suitcase by the door, she’d get it later. Right now, she just wants to be with her wife while she can.
”Nat, you home?” she called out into the quiet house. Natasha was supposed to be home before she was.
“Upstairs!” Natasha called back. Maria ran up the stairs, taking two at a time. She finally got to their room and saw Natasha lying on the bed watching a movie.
“Mia!” Nat exclaimed when Maria jumped on her. “I haven’t seen you in almost 2 months, you’ll be okay.” Maria mumbled against her neck. Natasha smiled softly and ran her fingers through dark locks. “I missed you too.”
“C’mon, I have a surprise for you.” Natasha said after a few minutes. Maria sat up and allowed Nat to get up. Natasha held out her hand for Maria to take and led her to the bathroom. There was a bubble bath drawn and Maria’s favorite candle was lit. “We haven’t had any us time and I thought this would be perfect.” Natasha smiled sweetly. They took their clothes off and Maria got in first and Nat said in her lap.
“I love you. And I feel like without our jobs we don’t see each other enough, so I don’t get to say it in person as much as I want to; but I love you with all my heart.” Maria whispered to Nat. Natasha blushed, a soft smile on her face. “I love you too and I’ve been thinking…I want to announce our relationship. Our 10 year anniversary is coming up and I think it’d be perfect.” Natasha was kind of nervous about Maria’s reaction. When they decided to go to their respective bands, they made the decision to not talk about their relationship for privacy reasons. Now, they don’t really care. They have such little privacy already being celebrities, the only difference is, they’d actually be able to be seen together.
“I think we should and I have the perfect idea. Maria, Carol, and I have been working on a song and we wanted a feature on it. I think you’d be perfect for it, especially because I wrote it about you. We’re going to perform it for the first time at the end of our tour, which would give us more than enough time to get everything set. What do you say?” Maria explained. She had been thinking about this for a while and couldn’t decide how to bring up the topic to Natasha and was happy she was able to do it in person.
Natasha turned a little so she was facing Maria. “I think it’s perfect. The fans aren’t gonna know what hit them.” She smiled before giving Maria a kiss.
Tonight, they would enjoy the peace and quiet they had right now as a couple cause in 2 months, that peace and quiet would be gone.
