see this is part of the reason why there should be more physically disabled characters in pjo in general but the reason that Will being physically disabled would be such big deal is because he’s a healer. disabled people are extremely underrepresented in healthcare even though it’s so important for their voices to be heard. Will in canon is pretty ableist (because Rick is ableist), but imagine if he was physically disabled. imagine a Will who understands his patients because he’s in the same situation and leads reforms for accessibility because he’s dependent on it, too. imagine a Will who dreams of revolutionizing the medical field to make it easier for people like him to become doctors and nurses. imagine a Will who struggles with physical disability every day but is proud of who he is and wouldn’t change himself for the world.

Disabled Nico di Angelo Headcanons

Shortly after the war with Gaea, Nico starts having pain in his back, knees, and hands that can't be explained or healed, and make it difficult to walk and even hold a pen. At first, Nico tries to endure the pain, convinced he was just being dramatic, but after nearly collapsing during training, he finally caves and goes to Will about it. The healer recommends getting a cane and compression gear to see if they can help. Nico is reluctant at first but decides to give a shot, and is pleasantly surprised to discover they help immensely.

Over time, Nico decorates the cane with stickers and keychains that he got from his friends. He develops the habit of tapping the cane on the ground when he's nervous or impatient.

He wears compression gloves for his hand pain. Most people assume he wears them for fashion reasons. They're a bit of a hassle, since he has to constantly take them on and off to do things, but he learns to deal with it. He also wears knee braces, but you usually don't see them because he wears them under his jeans most of the time.

Camp is pretty accessible, and Nico has little trouble getting around. At first, he was afraid of going out in public with the cane, fearing people would see him as weak, but most are accepting of his disability. If anyone dared to give him shit about it, they learned the hard way not to fuck with him.

The aids aren't a miracle cure, and there are still days when Nico can't do things due to the pain being too severe. But he learns to be patient with himself and accept his limits.

The Hephaestus Cabin has offered to make him a cane that can turn into a sword, and Nico is currently helping them figure out the design.

Hades has also offered to get him a small hellhound trained as a service dog if he ever needs it.

will solace is hard of hearing. he has implants, and bc of this, he had a really hard time accepting himself as a child of apollo. even if he glows, can heal, and can accept that he doesn't need to be amazing at all of his dads domains. this is a real blow to him. as a kid with a country star mom and the God of music as a dad, it's hard.

nico, who's spent so little time at camp, sees wills hearing aids and asks about it. will gets embarrassed, but nico immediately goes to wills siblings and Chiron, and gets the entire apollo cabin and himself enrolled to learn asl. when wills hearing aids die after a long night in the infirmary, he cries (/pos) when nico signs "are your hearing aids dead? do you want me to go get your batteries from the cabin?" to him. bc nico doesn't care that he's deaf. he loves will no matter what and he'll do anything to make sure he knows it.

a rant about adults having 3+ copies of middle grade books.

probably an unpopular opinion but i don’t like it when adults have 3+ (most i’ve seen is four) copies of tsats just bc they can. like i get it if your copy gets messed up so you get a new one, or if you buy a lot for a giveaway, or if you have a backup copy, but FOUR COPIES is excessive. especially if you’re not even the target audience, bc that takes away from the target audience (coming from someone apart of the target audience.) tsats is a middle grade book. a book for middle schoolers. here’s my unrealistic but easy to understand hypothetical: say when tsats was released they had 100,000 copies ready to be sold, and about 10,000 adults each got four copies, for their own use/benefit. that means there’s 30,000 middle schoolers that are gonna have to wait for more books to be printed just so they can scrap up 20 dollars (my copy was 15 but in canada its like 30 so yeah) and buy the book. i got the very last copy walmart had in their book section. bc so many people were preordering so many copies that the preorder went from 15 dollars to 30 dollars in the US. tsats is a book about silly little teenagers FOR silly little teenagers. “oh but i grew up on pjo, i should get to read the book too!!” ok. you don’t need 4 copies to read the book. you really don’t even need 1 copy. e-books are a thing. and if you are an adult that got tsats, cool. good for you! but please don’t get more than two copies unless you already had a copy or two and another was gifted to you. the queer teens that are reading this book may need the representation to keep them going. so please don’t take away from us. also this is all meant to be respectful as possible. and this goes for all books. if you’re not the target audience, please don’t take away from the target audience. that would be most appreciated. :)

my favorite headcannon is that due to being in the lotus hotel and casino, nico's joints didn't develop right, so he has to walk with a cane and on really bad days a wheelchair. it leads to will pushing him and the young Apollo kids crawling on his lap when he's in the wheelchair and covering his cane with smiley face stickers.

he acts like it annoys him, but he's been putting sealant over the stickers so they don't get damaged or fall off.
