i don't wanna monetize my art

Recently, I decided to toy around with the idea of pay-walling some of my posts on Substack, just to see if I like the process of providing some free stuff and some stuff only for paid subs.

I don't.

Listen, I am certifiably poor. I'm a disabled dude living in a small town in Appalachia, and I can't work as much due to my disabilities. I could most definitely use the extra cash, yanno what I mean?

And yet...I just don't fuckin' like it. I don't want to care about making money off my art. I don't want to spend time with the logistics of trying to make my art as marketable and profitable as possible.

I just wanna make art.

This shit is fun for me. I love writing essays and fiction. Makin' zines. Messin' around with video editing. This stuff is my outlet, and I don't wanna spoil it by trying to convert it into Content™.

And to be clear: this isn't a diss to folks who do monetize their stuff. I thought I wanted to for a long time because, like, obviously it would be cool to make money doing stuff I love, and I love that other folks have figured out a way to do that.

But for now? I'm but a humble himbo just makin' shit because I can, and though I reckon some people might be appalled by my shit business skills, I'm okay with just sending my art into the void and hoping it finds its way home.
