You've been visited by the random OC question fairy! :D ~☆
Does your character own any sentimental items? What’s the story behind these items? What would they do if these items were lost/destroyed?
OH BOY who do i answer this with aaaahhh
i think im gonna go with jam, rowan, mitzi, and seriah. to keep it relatively short. jam and rowan are from one universe, and mitzi and seriah are from another!!
so jam has a couple of things. due to his frankly awful childhood, he doesnt have much that he wants to keep, but he does have one little monkey plushie that hes had since he was like 5, before the bad stuff happened. he lost it after the Incident, and when he found it again it had been enchanted with protection and hiding spells. he hasnt lost it since, but it has helped keep him hidden when he needed it.
he also has a few other things he later stole from his birth family (they deserved it dw), like his cane and a few instruments. none of them had been touched in years, so theyre his now. rowan and his other friends have given him gifts and hes very careful with them because he doesnt want to lose them.
if he ever did lose any of them, he'd probably cry. his monkey plush fell behind his bed at one point and he had a panic attack because he couldnt find it. he was not expecting that to happen, and has been more careful with it since.
rowan next!! rowan has a bunch of things, but his most precious item is a giant crocheted octopus his dad made him as a kid called mister hugs. he loves that thing. its a little beat up, but he still sleeps with it every night. also, the ends of its tentacles are filled with beans, and he has absolutely smacked someone with them at some point.
if rowan ever lost mister hugs he would be very, very sad, and he'd probably go a little haywire trying to find it, because he's had that thing for so long and he loves it so much. he'd be able to move on tho, because he has other things, and he more cherished the memories tied to it, yknow?
onto mitzi!! like jam, mitzi's childhood was pretty terrible. they had toys and other things but they never got connected to any of them after they learned that their parents would take away anything they deemed a "distraction." mitzi was supposed to be a perfect child, after all. (they only succeeded at making a very angry one.) mitzi did manage to hide a box under the floorboards of their room with a few things in it, and they took the most important ones with them when they left. they have a shed snakeskin from their companion, calixa, a little pendant they found on the floor and clung to until their mother almost found it, and the first robot they ever made. it's janky and it doesnt quite work properly but they love it dearly.
if they lost the snakeskin they wouldnt be too sad. after all, calixa is still with them. the pendant they still wear, and i think they'd be conflicted if they lost it. it reminds them of their parents, back when they seemed to be actually good people. their little robot though? they'd be devastated. its kind of a mark of how much they've grown, how far they've come since they found a couple of tools in the garage and started carefully tinkering when their parents werent around. it was the first thing that was really theirs. having that taken from them would hurt a lot, but they'd move on eventually.
seriah has one thing. one. its a journal. their soul is a tarot deck, but their journal is the one thing theyve had since they can remember, even before their soul was given physical form. its cursed. it writes their dreams every night in excruciating detail, and seriah uses it as a diary during the day. they used to hate it. they've tried to throw it away, or destroy it, but it would just reappear in their pocket or their backpack the next night, and their dreams would be even worse without it. it never seems to grow any bigger, despite being far too small for all the information held within it. still, seriah can find any entry they've written in it, and any dream theyve had.
in the end, they'd be fine without it, but its the type of thing thats just impossible to get rid of. they've watched it burn, only for it to reappear back in their pack the next day as though nothing happened. theyve torn out every page, and by the next day it was as though it had never happened. theyve thrown it into swamps and bogs and into the mouth of monsters, but it always comes back. at this point, if it were to actually be destroyed, they'd be surprised and maybe a little lost. its been the one constant throughout their exceedingly long life, as annoying as it is. they wouldnt try to find it. if its gone, its gone.
