i don’t read basically at all anymore :( but! when i do it’s weird and varied:
Lady Killers by Tory Telfer - a historical look at female murderesses, with a focus on how their cases were handled by the media/public. it’s told through a feminist lens, and the author does a great job of pointing out how male journalists characterize murderesses - either infantilizing them or putting them in a femme fatale role.
Fangs by Sarah Andersen - a cute graphic novel about a vampire and a werewolf who date.
Captive Prince by C. S. Pacat - reads like a fanfic! a slow (and i mean S L O W) burn romance between princes of warring countries who despise each other at first but have to learn to work together and eventually fall in love. gets you with the iddy premise, then you find yourself reading 3 books of military/political intrigue ....
Empress by Karen Miller - this is NOT a book for everyone, i’m gonna say this right now. i’m still conflicted about it, and i think about it often, which really tells you how the story gripped me. basically, the lead character is an irredeemable zealot and a villain of the highest order. she is also an incredible misogynist (”every woman is garbage but me, the exception”) in a truly misogynistic society. but her rise to power is incredibly compelling, and she feels both real and frightening at the same time...
Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo - PUTTING ASIDE THE FACT that everyone is basically a fetus, this book has all my special interests crammed into one: rogue characters with rough backstories and their own secret motives, a heist, fantasy victorian times, compelling relationship dynamics ... it’s not perfect by any means (like i said, everyone is too damn young for their skillset to be believable and some ways that incredibly fucked up life events are glossed over feels ... melodramatic) but!! it’s one of the more interesting books i’ve read lately so i would recommend it
positivity for skyguarded : @skyguarded is seriously one of the most friendly humans/brilliant writers out there!!! the way they write shiro is *chef’s kiss* and their plot ideas are aMAZING. anyone out there looking for a genuinely kind human being with sheer talent should write with them, hands down <3
1. Answer Me, The Band's Visit
(i cannot tell you how emotional this song makes me, it's absolutely gorgeous. that ending is the only time in the entire show that the whole cast is singing together and when you get that build up of everyone joining in and then WHEN THE SUN AND MOON AND STARS ARE GONE/WHAT'S LEFT IS ONLY YOU - like if you cry every time)
2. Promises/Wait For Me (Reprise)/Road to Hell (Reprise), Hadestown
(i can't choose, i can't. Promises makes my heart feel so full, Wait for Me is just stunning to listen to the part right before Eva comes in at the end when almost all the instrumentals drop off? STUNNING, and Road to Hell makes me feel like i'm back in the theater hearing it for the first time and i will tear up by the end, i can't help it)
3. Try, The Lightning Thief
(it stabs me in my pjo-obsessed heart every time, i can't explain the reaction it brings out, it's so perfect also the drums drive me crazy)
4. Why We Tell the Story, Once On This Island
(again, it just puts me back in the theater seeing the show for the first time and this is SUCH a good show, i would go see it 6 more times if i could, this song makes me so happy)
5. A New Horizon/Something After All/The Starry Night, Starry
(these songs make me feel more optimistic and hopeful than almost any other mt song; they're absolutely beautiful to listen to, and i can't pick between them because i'm too busy crying when they all come back in the finale also everyone should listen to Starry i'm in love with it)
6. I Am the One, Next to Normal
(it's my list i decide how many songs are on it it just HITS my dudes when Alice Ripley ilu comes in at the end....i love grief and familial disfunction and being mad)
positivity for compassionatedestiny : @compassionatedestiny is such a kind person. I really appreciate her as a friend. I love talking to her OOC and IC. Her OCs are so much fun to interact with and so thought out no matter the verse. Puzzle is just such a wonderful writer and her art is amazing too. She's a treat to have on the dash.
every so often i think about the headline 'don't worry, lumberjack dexter still wants to kill people in new dexter tease' and it knocks me off my feet every time. who was worried about that. why was that on people's minds after the end of season eight. screams.
ro! hello :D ! first off, i adore your new pfp, it’s so lovely!! the flowers add just enough color and it balances it all out so nicely, it’s just really really cool. and! your ranboo and michael art!! i know i’ve already said this, but you are so incredible at traditional art. the shading is amazing and all the colors go together so nicely and i love ranboo’s boots and his little memory book holder and michael’s whole outfit and the wall- dude :0 ! i love this little wall so much!! the flowers and leaves coming out of it along with it being multi-colored adds so much life into it and it’s just wonderful. i really like the wall :) anywho! i hope you’ve been having a great day and it only gets better from here! love you, big man 💛 !!
Bee!!! Hullow~!! :D
Fist off, thank you!! I'm really happy with the way my pfp turned out, especially since pixel art isn't usually my forte- or at least not my first pick of a medium. So I'm very very happy to hear it came together just as well as I hoped it had!! :D
As for the Michael and Ranboo picture; also thank you!!! There were definitely things i forgot *cough cough* ranboo and michael's tails *cough cough* but I'm super happy to hear that it looks good from an outside perspective!! It was a bit different from what I normaly try- both in the field of motion and character, since I've hardly ever drawn more than one character in a picture, and if i do they tend not to interact with one another- but i too was very very pleased with how it turned out!! I'm also very glad to see you like the wall!! Drawing inanimate objects is NOT my strong suit in the slightest- i am not much of an architect lol- but like you, again, i was very happy with how it turned out :]
As far as today- it's been quite a wonderful day!! I don't have any zoom meetings on Wednesdays, so I got to sleep in a lil bit, I watched Howl's Moving Castle with my lil sis and now I'm working on a big watercolor landscape for my art class
This is the landscape if you're interested lol
Haven't gotten far as you can see :/
All in all I've had a lovely little day!! Thank you for checkin in with me, Bee!! I ADORE hearing from you so much, my friend! I love you too, and i hope you're having an excellent day as well ;D
