Time for a digital declutter:
Clear desktop
Delete apps you don’t use
Delete downloads/screenshots
Organise everything into folders
Give every document a clear name
Delete your emails (!!!)
Unsubscribe from email lists
Check and install updates
Turn off any social media notifications you don’t need
Organise your pictures into folders
Do the same with apps
Go through your Facebook friends list/people you follow on Instagram
Unfollow anything that makes you feel insecure
Clear browser history and bookmarks
Back up anything that’s important

Monthly Reset
Turn on some comforting music and get started. Do this at the very beginning of each month.
Clean out cameraroll
Get any receipts out of your bag/car/wallet and sort if they’re necessary to keep or not. Put them in a designated area.
Clean your bathroom cabinets and drawers out, wipe the mirror down and light a candle
Clean your closet. Get rid of anything you genuinely dont want anymore
Clean your gmail
Clean out your text messages
Delete any unnecessary apps/files you have saved
Write down/type out the passwords to any accounts you made recently
Tidy up your jewelry
Get rid of any random boxes / trash / unnecessary items in your home
Clean out your fridge
Skim over what goals you missed last month and add them to this months week one plan
Identify one to two bad habits and find good habits to replace them with
EX: Leaving items laying in random places TO “put it away, not down”
EX: Procrastinating dishes TO doing the dish as soon as you’re finished with it
Use the journal prompt : What were some things that upset you last month? Do you know why they upset you? How do you feel now? Name some positive things you did last month. Name two things you feel you did a good job on last month.
Use an anxiety/depression/self help app to relax
Write down 10 affirmations to start the new month
Change your phone’s wallpaper

i was looking at my photos app today and was shocked to realize that i had 12.000 pictures saved! i decided that it's time for decluttering.
decluttering that many pictures seems a daunting task, so i have decided that whenever i feel bored and have nothing else to do, i'll open the app on my phone and delete a couple of pictures chosen at random, without going in chronological order or whatever.
this will also hopefully help me cure my addiction to color-by-number phone games.
my goal is to get to 5.000 by the end of the year. (of course, it's not a hard and fast number. if i decide i'm satisfied at 6k or 7k or whatever other number, that's fine)
so we start today, jan 26th 2024, with 10.763 photos. i'll check in on new year's eve.

Many of the questions Jason Kottke listed when he announced his blogging sabbatical in May apply to me as well.
Does what I do here make a difference in other people’s lives? In my life? Is this still scratching the creative itch that it used to? And if not, what needs to change? Where does kottke.org end and Jason begin? Who am I without my work? Is the validation I get from the site healthy? Is having to be active on social media healthy? Is having to read the horrible news every day healthy? What else could I be doing here? What could I be doing somewhere else? What good is a blog without a thriving community of other blogs? I’ve tried thinking about these and many other questions while continuing my work here, but I haven’t made much progress; I need time away to gain perspective.
Many of these are reasons why I decided to take a break from Tumblr and other social media in June.
The break wasn't total. I still popped in every few days to handle some specific task. But I tried to stay focused on that task. Get in and get out quickly.
Then in late June I started queuing up posts to share here. I am writing this June 22.
I don't know if I settled anything. But it was a nice break. And it demonstrated to me a point that really shouldn't have needed demonstrating: I can walk away from social media for a short spell and my world will not collapse.
For me, quitting social media felt like quitting smoking did.

Self-Care Saturday: Digital Decluttering
Ever try to find a file on your computer or phone and spend enough time searching for it that you give up? I sure have. Especially when it comes to sharing a photo on my phone. Oh man. I know I’m setting myself up for a struggle there! Finding files on the computer is a little easier for me, but when I really get to looking into some folders, like “Music” I know I’m heading into a dark, scary…

21/10/23
Today has been a little iffy. I felt sick and a bit out of it for most of it, but still managed to do a fair few things. Today was mostly about sorting out apps/accounts I didn’t need, updating passwords, sorting out my Pinterest boards, and sorting out my photos. Just a day full of doing those things you’re forever putting off.

Ok but can we talk about how satisfying the post semester digital decluttering is? Looking at all of your hard work, your essays, presentations, notes… Then you store it away in your computer or hard disk and make space for the new blood sweat and tears that are about to come. Just poetic 🤍
