Light On - single mom/neighbors fic Simon Riley/female reader
Tumblr media
You're early.
Your little knock on the door sends him into a spiral of panic, brain splitting in half, trying to figure out if he can hide his mortifying failure from you and still save dinner.
You knock again.
"Hey, sorry, I know we're early but-" You peel off with a sniff, nose wrinkling slightly, lips tucking together. You're wearing a lip stick, or a lip gloss, or something? And your hair is done. "Is something burning?"
"No!" He blurts. "No, uh. I'm just... cooking. Come in, come in."
He did actually, burn dinner. He burnt it so bad he had to order delivery, Thai on the fly, much to your excitement, and he files the knowledge of one of your favorite foods away for the future. The two of you eat together, little bits and pieces being given to Emmaline from your finger, and by the time you're finished, he's nearly worked up the nerve to start talking.
"So..." your voice trails, awkwardly, and you glance at him before looking away, finding a spot on the wall to study. Here goes nothing.
"I ah, wanted to explain, my behavior... from the other night." He starts, rubbing the nape of his neck. You watch him expectantly, Emmaline on your lap, and when he falters, you give him an encouraging nod.
"I'm listening."
"How I reacted, how I spoke to you was... unfair. It was cruel and I never want to make you upset, like that." You nod. "What I do- my job- it's... it can be dangerous. Stressful. Our last mission was difficult and I... operate in a different headspace at work. It's what keeps me alive. Makes me good at what I do." Skip the killing part, LT, Soap's voice reminds him, and he pushes on. "I was still decompressing, when you came to the door and I didn't want you to see me... like that."
"With your war paint." You quip, and he pauses, head cocked. "You had black stuff, around your eyes?"
"Yes, with my war paint. I didn't want you to..." He loses it for a second, flailing in the wind, mind scrambling as he tries to put the words together. Just say it. Tell the truth. "I didn't want you to be afraid of me. I don't think I could stand it. It's no excuse but, I guess, I thought you deserved an explanation."
"You're right." You say slowly. "It's not an excuse." You sigh, twirling a fork through the last of your noodles. "I'm not mad at you, not anymore. I just... it's hard you know. To put yourself out there, when you're a single mom. And a widow. I thought, maybe... you didn't-"
"I do." He cuts you off. "I... you and Emmaline, you're the best things that have happened in a long time. I-"
"Oh my god!" you gasp, and he instinctually startles, muscles going stiff as he surveys the flat.
"What?"
"It's snowing! Sorry, just uh..." You're already standing, hand half reaching towards him, excited smile on your face. "Emmaline's never seen snow before, can we... this is her first winter." You explain, and then move towards the balcony, fidgeting with his door lock, huffing in frustration when you can't figure it out.
"I got it." He says, not mentioning that it's custom, and slides it free, pushing the door wide so you can go outside. You're vibrating with joy, smile wide and big, and even Emmaline feels it, watching her mum, little face lit up the same as yours.
"Look, baby. Look!" You point, and then cup your palm, letting fat white flakes fall into your hand, tilting to show Emma, and she cackles with excitement, pudgy hand slapping against yours, bringing the melting snow to her mouth. You laugh with her, staring back up at the sky before glancing over to where he stands in the doorway, enraptured. The snow is caught in your hair, on your nose, in your eyelashes, the same as the baby, both of you glowing on his fucking balcony like angels on earth, sent to him from someone up there who might love him.
"Thanks, mum." he whispers to himself, to her, ducking inside to grab the blanket from the couch so he can wrap the two of you up in it to keep you at least a little warm and protected from the elements. "I wish you could have met them."
When he reappears, you're still catching flakes, this time with your tongue, hardly paying attention until he's settling the blanket on your shoulders and stepping back to watch, content to try to memorize every single second.
"Come here." You call, extending a hand, wiggling your fingers. "Try to catch one on your tongue." But he can't move.... he's too stunned, standing there before you, staring, and it gives you pause. "Simon." You whisper, head tipped back. The balcony lamp reflects in your eyes, snowflakes and yellow shine glowing back at him, the entire world lit up inside them, and his hand finds your cheek, cupping it with his bare palm, thumb stroking across the velvet that is your skin.
"I'm so sorry, sweetheart. So, so sorry." His voice sounds thick, fractured, and you smile, leaning into him, Emmaline's warm weight between your bodies.
"I know... I... I understand now." You look away, for a second, taking a deep breath before blinking rapidly, tears just barely there on your waterline. "I can't... losing Emma's dad, before she was even born I- I can't... I don't want to go through anything like that again, Simon. I'm scared." It's a confession, horrifying and real, terrified and heartbreaking. All he can do is tell you the truth. Tell you what he feels. What he knows.
"You don't have to be scared." He murmurs, low and soft, other hand coming to gently support Emmaline's back. "Not with me. I promise you." What is he doing, what is he doing, what is he- what is he promising? To live forever? To never hurt you? To never let either of you be hurt? To claw his way back to you, even in death?
He looks down at you, at Emma, and the world freezes. He sees everything so clearly, the image of his future, of yours- a little house with a yard, another baby. Emmaline a big sister, so proud and excited. All of you tucked away somewhere secret and safe.
He takes a deep breath, exhale crystalizing in the air, water vapor falling like a halo around you, and his confession comes unbidden, so easily given to you. "I want to kiss you."
"Okay." You answer, and then he moves, closing the gap, slowly pressing his lips to the warmth of yours, blood pooling beneath his skin, heat flowing between your bodies. You taste like heaven, mouth sweet and easy for him, parting with a tiny gasp, and it overpowers him to the point where he thinks his knees might give out. He can't help but hold your closer, arm tightening around your back, finger stroking down the length of your spine-
Emma cries. It's not really a cry, more like a little shout, and you pull away abruptly, giggly expression on your face.
"What's wrong baby girl." He hums, patting her back, tucking the blanket tighter around your arm and her body.
"I think she's upset she's going to have to share you. You're her favorite nowadays, you know." You tease, and his grin is so heavy on his face, but so light at the same time, something completely foreign and wild, the breadth of happiness something he hasn't felt in so many years. "And she's probably cold."
"Should we go inside?" He motions, somewhat relieved to get both of you out of the cold, and when you nod, you take his hand, intertwining your fingers with his, squeezing gently.
"We should."

https://discover.grasslandbeef (.com) /blog/novolone-cheese-dairy-free-bone-marrow-cheese-recipe/
Heres a bone marrow recipe with 0 butter, it was the one i was looking at. It seems that it just uses the plantains as a mushy base but i didn't know if the clans have access to anything that can be mushified. I was also thinking if my clans have access to milk (one clan lives on mountains and are known for knocking goats over cliffs to kill them, although its dangerous since you can be the one thrown over instead) but i havent researched that entirely. And about the eggs, I actually did have that written down (its called Balut iirc), fermenting things by burying them came up a LOT and stuffing large organs like stomachs to cook whole came up too. Pemmican seems like something the clans would also eat, since its just dried meat, berries, and fat.
DEFINITELY gonna use that marrow recipe as a butter substitute, it seems like the marrow alone can be used as a butter... unsure about the cheese though, the plantain seems like a very important ingredient there as a binding agent, and my cats don't have those.
Could apples or pears be used instead? I don't think blackberries would have that same "consistency."
On Milk
It's in the realm of possibility for everyone else's Clans who live on farms or have a good relationship with feral goats to collect milk! Difficult, considering their paws aren't particularly dexterous, but possible if they figured out a good grip. Feral cats who live near elephant seals are also actually able to steal milk irl-- that's because an elephant seal nipple lactates in 'bursts' with no kneading required.
But my Clan cats will never have milk for two reasons
They don't like to spend time around humans or steal from them, unless they're SkyClan. Living too close to humans and their pets stresses them out. So Warrior Bites recipes will never use them, because they would not have a culinary use for things they do not encounter.
The logistics of taking milk are difficult. They'd need to keep the animal still, milk them into a bucket, and then be able to run with that container (possibly jumping over obstacles). Since my cats aren't living directly alongside these animals, they don't have technological development towards this. Maybe as a dare! But not enough to get used in official recipes.
I also just, personally, really don't like the idea of trying to force Clan Culture into being an arbitrary reflection of ours. I sometimes do funny little tidbits, memes, or jokes, y'know? Especially for names (in both English and Clanmew) because I love puns and it eventually becomes its own word. But something as big as including dairy products as a base ingredient in official Warrior Bites entries completely defeats the point of my project.
I'm not trying to reverse engineer human food for cats, like, make "versions" of popular people junk foods that they would never come up with if they weren't just mimicking twolegs. I wanna make Clan cat food. I wanna make food that's 75% what a cat in this culture would whip up if you gave them a brain and fire and only 25% still palatable to humans.
(examples of suggestions I get frequently that are a hard no: pizza, hot pockets, noodles, sandwiches, insert random farm vegetable, candy, plant-based dishes that contain absolutely no meat)
But!! This is taking my Clan's cultures into consideration! It makes perfect sense to have milk AND evolve lactose tolerance if your Clan's culture is keeping livestock! Be that their own herds, or living in tandem with human farms, etc.
ShepherdClan would be a serious vibe.
Stomachs, Balut, Pemmican
I ABSOLUTELY plan to make dishes that are like haggis, where you take a big organ, stuff it full of meat, and then roast the whole thing. A++++ S-rank stuff. That's exactly the sort of thing they'd get up to.
ShadowClan in particular also likes to experiment with fermentation, so I want to eventually give them "ratwurst" lmao, sausages made from the intestines of rats, packed with meats, and then fermented until hard.
Balut is an egg in late embryonic development. You get a little bite of yolk and a big bite of meat! It's absolutely something the Clans would get up to. Traditionally this is done with ducks, which are everywhere in the part of England so I can definitely imagine Clan cats stealing a couple eggs 'that won't even be missed.'
But you know what I'm going to do? Clan cats LOVE doing this with cuckoo eggs most of all. Especially in ThunderClan and SkyClan. They'll inspect the nests of songbirds, and if they see a cuckoo, just take it and incubate it themselves. Just enough until it's maximum delicious.
They have a cultural love of songbirds, so they have a vested interest in protecting them from brood parasites which kill the other eggs.
And pemmican? Totally a ThunderClan thing. Funfact I decided that it's Ivypool's favorite food, she seems like she'd like something a little chewy.

Does TCD have tiny scales, skin, or is he fuzzy? It's hard to tell because I'm always distracted by his handsomeness, and in some photos he looks very fuzzy indeed, but in drawings perhaps not?
Please advise, all information about His Highness is good information to have.
A fren:
Tumblr media
Ah, this is an excellent question! Time to delve into some TCD lore! We'll start at the top and work our way down.
Upper body: Tiny Cloud dragon has smooth, hooman like skin from the waist up. The exception is his little dragon ears, and wings.
Ears: covered in very fine silky hair/fur.
Wings: covered in the standard leathery skin you will find on most dragons. The white oblong things on the end of each wing tip and "elbow" is a single fluffy feather.
Lower body: its like lizard skin. It has a very fine texture, and is soft to the touch.
When the winter months roll around, he usually stays indoors in his Tiny Dragon shape. He puts on his winter fat, and Angeal makes him wear wooly jumpers and socks, so he doesn't need to grow a winter coat.
That all changes when he's in his Big Boi shape. During the warmer months, this big Danger Noodle is covered in fine, short hair.
He does grow a very thick winter coat in this form. The extra floof is soft like alpaca wool, and keeps him (and Zack) toasty warm when they are off doing SOLDIER things (like building snowmen, frolicking, making snow angels, and trying to get Sephiroth with snowballs).
When he sheds in summer, Angeal makes sure to collect every tuft. He has it processed, spun into yarn, and hand dyes it to make his famous Christmas sweaters.

Kung Fu Panda (2008) and the belief in yourself
In 2008, DreamWorks Animations released one of the most famous animated franchises and it belongs to many kids' childhood all over the world. Kung Fu Panda by the director Mark Osborne is one of the best animated trilogies ever made in my opinion. With the voiceover of Angelina Jolie, Jackie Chan and other famous actors, the satisfying Kung Fu fighting scenes and a good sense of humor Kung Fu Panda is a huge success for DreamWorks. Following the story of a big fat Panda, who’s randomly chosen to be the dragon warrior one day, the movie had taught children valuable lessons about trust, more specifically self trust and self awareness.
The movie introduced the audiences to Po, Po is just a big and clumsy panda and he’s really passionate about kungfu. But he’s really ashamed of himself and he thinks that kungfu is something impossible for a panda like him to achieve. He can’t even admit his passion in kungfu to his dad Ping. Po gets pressured from Ping to take over the noodle restaurant, typical asian parents, Ping also shares with Po that when he’s younger, he also chasing his dreams but now he realized that those dreams are delusional. Oneday, master Oogway chose Po to be the dragon warrior, a person who is known as the greatest and strongest martial art fighter ever. Nobody believes in him; they think master Oogway made a mistake, he even doubted himself. Everybody in the Palace hated him, master Shifu assigned dangerous challenges for Po to quit and get back to the noodle restaurant. The Five also use harsh words to kick him out of the palace. Lots of questions appeared in Po’s head, is he good enough? Was master Oogway wrong in choosing him? At the end Po still stayed at the palace and worked hard day by day with master Shifu to live up to his title and follow his passion. And when it is time for Po to take the dragon scroll, instead of some special secret, he received nothing, the scroll was blanked. Everyone is confused. At the time, they also receive the news that Tai Lung escapes the prison. When Po is helping his dad leaving the valley, Ping decides to tell him the secret ingredients in the noodle soup. The secret ingredients in the noodle soup and the blank dragon scroll have one thing in common. Po’s goose dad once said: “There are no special ingredients, to make something special, you just believe it’s special.” After hearing this, Po realizes something and rushes back to the palace to help master Shifu. He realizes that he has to believe in himself and gain his confidence back. After all, Po defeats Tai Lung and brings peace to the valley.
Tumblr media
Opposite of Po is Tai Lung, Po’s enemy. Tai Lung is the representative of the group of people that have too much self esteem, they believe in themselves too much and they turn arrogant and delusional. Tai Lung was abandoned by his parents and Shifu picked him up and raised him. He has extreme potential in kung fu. Tai Lung was abandoned by his parents and Shifu picked him up and raised him. He has extreme potential in kung fu. His craziness and sadness comes from the super high expectation from master Shifu and he got blurred from the glory and the greed for the dragon scroll. Tai Lung thinks he is the best and he deserves the dragon scroll, one day that dragon scroll got taken from him and got super mad and crazy. In the scene where Shifu and Tai Lung are facing each other in the palace, we can see Tai Lung’s pain, his anger that he experienced. Tai Lung is very relatable and got empathy from the audiences from his past and his story. Imagine training and trying so hard for something and it got taken away by somebody else, that will surely make anybody angry. Tai Lung is such a peak villain.
Overall, Kung Fu Panda and specifically Po have taught me very valuable lessons. This trilogy not only produces good main characters but also amazing villains. Hoping to see more movies of this quality or above from DreamWorks. Kung Fu Panda will always hold a place in my heart.

I had an idea I wished to share. So y’all know the possession au with future Emmet and present Emmet duking it out mentally and all that?
Future Emmet’s s/o left him years after Ingo’s disappearance cause no matter what they did or tried to help Future!Emmet kept spiraling and the relationship turned toxic so they left for both of their sakes.
In this timeline you’re still with Emmet, you two are happily together but once future! Emmet possesses present! Emmet’s body, he’s ecstatic at seeing you again.
So basically yandere future Emmet, and your normal sweet present Emmet who’s trying to win back control to save you from all the batshit crazy thoughts his future self keeps thinking.
Of course you pick up something being wrong, a few odd things Emmet does and Ingo seemingly depressive episodes coming out of left field.
But you aren’t aware of the danger lurking. Aren’t aware that your biggest threat is cuddling up against you in bed.
This would be confusing as hell to write for, but I wanted to share the idea cause it’s been on my mind for a minute and I figured sharing it would get the brain worm out. -noodle
OMG YESS I love @/ nartothelar future Emmet au
The Au is tragic and sad, but all I can think about is "Oh wow two Emmets 😳"
What a big fat brain worm!
As if one Emmet isn't bad enough(affectionate)

Get out. Get out now.
I started this 5 months ago because I wanted to loose weight and I wanted to loose it quickly before I was 18. I was always the fat kid and thought I'd be happier and more liked if I was thin so I was so determined to do this.
I started slowly with 1,000cal a day and eventually it got to a point where anything 400cal or above wasn't good enough.
I thought I could just do this until I was at my ugw (50kg) from my starting point (88kg)
I'm now at my ugw and let me tell you, it isn't sunshine and rainbows.
I still feel the same
I still think I look the same
My mental health isn't any better
I dont even feel like I reached my goal because as soon as I got close to my goal the post kept on moving to 45kg or even 39kg which regardless of the other posts is dangerous and not fucking normal.
I try to maintain but the thing these cute tip posts dont tell you is that once your ready to stop, the cute tips are etched into your head and trying to break them feels like your breaking a law written into the universe by God so even if you want to get better, too bad, your fucked.
Eventually you'll get to a point where the pain of starving becomes too much and the food you've been hiding to avoid speculation from friends and family becomes so alluring you just can't take it anymore.
So yes some days it can be cute plates and organising every minute detail uwu
But that isn't sustainable, eventually you'll crack and when you do its so fucking painful because not only is your body going
'Why tf are you feeding me 3 month old low cal noodles at 10 at night'
But your brain is screaming like a fucking toddler because those extra 69.4 calories +/- 20cal because they're unflavoured and fucking raw is too much.
This isn't cute. This is pain masked as having a fragment of control. Get out now

Loosenin’ Up at the Kitchen
A/N: just a ficlet of Sam cookin’ things up, guest starring Sarah Wilson! a domestic tale for @samtember2022. :3
Word Count: 935
TW: food
Prompt: Day 25 - Cooking
***
Humming to 'Heard It Through the Grapevine', he removed boiled shrimp shells from a pot. He poured it on a strainer as steam slightly fogged the sink. He tossed eight tablespoons of unsalted butter into a bowl. He added chopped and minced vegetables along with it too. He stirred them with a ladle, watching them melt. He belted out to the chorus, holding another spoon as a microphone.
After two weeks of missions, Sam opted to visit Sarah, A.J, and Cass for a while. He had been rather homesick for local Louisiana dishes. He had eaten decent food, sure, except he kept missing a bowl of Jambalaya. Or a po'boy.
The first thing he did since he had entered the house was to cook. He had enough skills to do it, so he picked Crawfish Étouffée. He had been at it for an hour, gathering the ingredients and equipment. He sauté the vegetables, adding creole seasoning. It added an extra pinch of color, sizzling with tiny bubbles surrounding it.
For those weeks out of Delacroix, he had been dreaming about food. Probably because he had only eaten sandwiches for most of his meals.
Not tonight, though. He would eat like royalty and savor it.
Sam removed the pot from the stove, pouring them into a bowl. He put a small amount of duck fat and flour into it, stirring them with a whisk.
"You know if you wanted to bring the house down, you could have said so. Metaphorically speaking, of course."
At that wry voice, Sam froze and clutched onto the whisk.
"Geez," Sam muttered, turning to look at Sarah standing near the archway. "Can't you give a person some privacy? I'm tryin' to cook over here. And that attitude's not helpin'."
When Sarah burst out with a laugh, he shook his head. He poured the vegetables back into the bowl.
"Cooking? For real?" Sarah asked, barely hiding her disbelief.
He scrunched his face. "Why? Is it that much of a shock?"
"Well, I'm surprised because you seemed so busy lately," Sarah explained, gesturing at him with a hand. "However, I guess I can't say no to an extra set of hands."
"Relax, I got this," he sing-songed, adding bay leaves into the bowl. "I'm being careful with the seasonings and stuff."
"Oh, you better. Still, thanks for helping me out."
"No problem. I'm always up for a rescue."
Sarah snorted, smiling.
"I know, you big goof."
Leaving the sauce and vegetables to simmer, he opened a cabinet to get another bowl. For pasta. He filled it up with water then opened a packet of Fettuccini noodles, sliding them in it. Sarah leaned against the doorway, fixing her eyes on the stove.
At times, Sam wondered how did he get so lucky to have Sarah as his sister. Because she often had common sense and stubbornness in spades. Those two qualities alone could be a dangerous combination to have instilled on a sibling. However, he found himself far more grateful than irritated for that.
Good thing, they had each other and he could count on her. And he often tried helping her out whenever he could. Even if she wouldn't admit it, he would be there to offer to do any errands. He knew she had pride to ask for help, constantly insisting on doing stuff on her own. Like him, she barely didn't have much time for herself either.
However, if he could help her out with the little things -household chores and all that, he considered it as great work. That way, she could take a break from her responsibilities too. He was more than willing to be the sibling she deserved.
It had been too long since they had quaint days like this. Days not involving missions or issues. Days, where they both could enjoy it while they could.
"There's the Sam Wilson I know," Sarah murmured, leaning back against the counter. "It's been a bit way too long since. . . since I saw you like this."
Sam raised his brows. "Huh? Like what?"
"Laidback and without much weight around his shoulders." Sarah's mouth quirked in a small smile. "I missed it when you aren't. . . tensed."
To think of it, he hadn't been tense since he began preparing this Crawfish Étouffée. He probably had been too focused on this to notice.
"Thank you," he replied with a grin. His shoulders loosened. "It's good to be around at home all day for a change."
"Yeah, I'm glad for that. And ahh, that crawfish sauce smells good from here."
"Yup, see? I'm putting the effort here instead of winging it."
"Once you're finished, we'll eat it for dinner? I'm sure the boys would love to have a meal cooked by Uncle Sam."
"When I'm done, I'll call you and the boys. So, wanna tell me what's up at the docks?"
"Hey, finish that 'Crawfish Étouffée' and then we'll get talking."
"You want me to get down to business already? After that moment we shared? How cold."
Sarah chuckled, lowering her head.
"Nope. Just being a sister, who's gotta remind you to keep your head in the game."
"Ah, I see. You're here to take advantage of my cooking."
"Less talking and more stirring, Samuel."
"You got it, Sar."
When Sarah walked to the door with another chuckle, she waved at him and he snorted. Still, he moved a ladle around the pot as the sauce simmered. He inhaled it, smelling it's zesty and creamy flavor. He hummed in approval, checking on the boiling pasta. This had signs of a star chef in the making.

Traveling day.
Made pretty good choices. Cleaned and ate before I left, watching Gotham. So hopefully I won't be going home to a pig sty.
I have continued to think about possible hangup and how to move past this plateau. 🤔
When I was in the 230's and 240's before, the [sic] love of my life started cheating on me with an 18 year old gastric bypass patient. It was hella traumatic. I lost everything. My heart was beyond broken. I ended up selling my house to her and leaving, basically losing the family I had fought so hard for.
I have felt untethered since then.
I did eventually remarry, so someone who basically loved me more than anything ever ( & got me fatter than ever) until they didn't--and some 21 year old puppy wannabe came along.
Got divorced. It was all chronicled on a blog that tumblr deleted. So again, thanks for that. I should have written it somewhere safe, because this wasn't and there was so so so much shit you guys.
So what was my takeaway from that? That my person will leave me if I become successful at weight loss??
How is that stopping me? My gf and I are not super serious. We don't have sex. We live separately. We actually seem better over the phone than in person. I struggle with their affection signals. [Sigh]
So why am I hung up here? How is that previous experience applicable to this situation?
It doesn't matter if she breaks up with me. Granted, I will be sad and lonely.... but it won't be fucking tragic.
So I am working on doing some mind reconditioning to change my inner language. Trying to redirect myself whenever I think bad thoughts. Honestly, I am just touch starved and body lonely. I can barely have an orgasm anymore, because I often start crying during, which probably doesn't fucking help.
It is safe for me to continue losing weight. I still have a large amount of fat. I will reconsider after dropping under 200 to see where I am with muscle mass. But I still have a rather large spare tire right now. So I know it isn't because I am in a physical danger zone. Mid 240s is still high for a female almost regardless of muscle mass.
So other wins: I am trying to concentrate on foods with lots of veggies, low calorie noodles, and protein.
So back to today- mostly good choices with the exception of breakfast. Which was a snickers and an apple while I cleaned my car. I had lunch before I left- which was veggies & gravy leftover from the other night, and a vegan harvest bowl. I gave the steak to mom to lower the cals for me. The bowl thing I bought a bunch of while they were on clearance and I wanted to try it. Small bowl of chickpeas and lentils in like a curry seasoning. 360 cals. So perfect to have with a veggie.
Road snacks. Drinks-- A pink Starburst crystal light thing, dt coke, cherry coke zero, and a pumpkin apple chai with fiber. Snacks-- Sweet c jelly, snow peas, carrot chips. Hard boiled eggs.
When I got to the hotel, I just got ready right away. Played in my phone a bit. Decided to wait to eat.
Went to an awesome show! It was great. No drinking, had a bottle of water.
Walked to the grocery store after. Bought 2 bananas, a pack of pickled green beans, and a cauli pizza bowl.
Ate a banana 🍌 right out of the store. Ate the pickled beans on the way back to the hotel.
Got back to the hotel, ate a salad first- but without most of the dressing.
Then ate my pizza bowl.
Took a bath and had 3 "moments."
Out of all the ways I could have undercut my healthy diet today, I think I won. No fast food. No drinking. Healthy food. Good choices all around except for the snickers. My workout was cleaning. I was sweating during but I wanted to be able to come home to a semi clean house.

Drew: That was a fairly restorative slumber. I hope today is—
Voice: Nobody’s gonna go to your party!
Drew looks up to see a giant radiating wall of energy across from his bed. Resting behind it is a group of holographic creatures, each a various form of red.
Drew: Aw crap, it’s the naughty nostalgia noodles.
Red Noodle: That’s right, Drew. We’re here to make you sad and stuff.
Drew: Man, you guys are the worst.
Ruby Noodle: People aren’t going to come to your party because they don’t like you as much as they used to.
Drew: Aw jeez, what a super mean thing to say.
Rose Noodle: They would have come to your party a few years ago but now you aren’t relevant to them and they don’t consider you a reason to leave the house!
Drew: Boy, you guys are really letting me have it this time. I’m summoning Future Drew.
Drew puts on a glowing chromatic ring, and with a flash of light appears a holographic figure, all its details fuzzy except its eyes and mouth. It resembles Drew.
Future Drew: Hey Drew. What’s the dealio?
Drew: These naughty nostalgia noodles are being super saucy right now.
Crimson Noodle: We’re the sauciers of evil!
Future Drew: Are they all red because they’re evil?
Drew: I think that’s just a coincidence.
Burgundy Noodle: We’re red because we’re evil!
Drew: Up, nevermind.
Maroon Noodle: Hey Drew, you used to be skinnier.
Drew: Aw man.
Scarlet Noodle: Yeah, and you used to be more energetic, too. Now you’re all boring. You’re fat and boring now, but you weren’t before.
Drew: You have clearly established how nostalgia can induce sadness in me. Hey Future Drew, are you going to help at all?
Future Drew: I’m trying, Drew. Stop harassing me, okay?
Raspberry Noodle: Hey Drew, you know that movie you saw four days ago that you really liked? You’ll never have the experience of seeing it for the first time again.
Drew: Aw shucks.
Dark Red Noodle: You should kill yourself.
Red Noodle: Whoa, Dark Red Noodle. Too far.
Drew: I was not expecting this when I woke up.
Future Drew: I get it, Drew, stop pushing me so hard!
Drew: I wasn’t—alright.
Fuschia Noodle: You haven’t touched a boob in years! You’re a loser!
Drew: You look more purple than red.
Fuschia Noodle: Fuschia is a shade of red, butthead! And you haven’t touched butt either!
Drew: I mean, technically I have.
Magenta Noodle: Girls liked you but now they don’t like you because your present sucks!
Drew: Gosh, you’re really bumming me out right now.
Terra Cotta Noodle: And where’s your website you keep talking about, huh?
Drew: Oh come on, I’m working on it. That’s not fair. …wait a minute. What does my website have to do with the past?
Terra Cotta Noodle: Uh…
Drew: The website is only related to the present and the future. It’s a new thing.
Vermillon Noodle: Good going, Terra Cotta Noodle!
Terra Cotta Noodle: Sorry…
Future Drew: And just you wait! It’s going to be awesome! It’ll be really cool stuff that’s worth the wait!
Drew: Yeah! Go Future Drew!
The wall of energy that the naughty nostalgia noodles stand behind begins to rumble.
Red Noodle: Oh no…
Future Drew: And he’s totally going to touch a not man butt soon, and he’ll see another movie he really likes soon, and he’ll have people that want to go to his party, and—I’m missing something.
Drew: They called me fatter and more boring.
Future Drew: Fuck them, you aren’t fatter and more boring!
Drew: i think I’m a little fatter.
Future Drew: He’s going to be in really good shape in a few months!
The wall of energy is vibrating dangerously. The naughty nostalgia noodles panic and shriek.
Red Noodle: This isn’t over, Drew! We’ll be back! And you’ll be sad and stuff!
The wall explodes and in a split second, the area they once stood is entirely cleared.
Drew: Huh. So yeah. I guess I learned something here.
Future Drew: Yeah?
Drew: My present isn’t always going to be awesome, and awesome things from the past will start to haunt me. And to avoid that, I have to really believe that things will be just as good in the future.
Future Drew: Yeah. I just ate a candle.
Drew: Why’d you eat a candle?
Future Drew: It was just sort of sitting on your dresser and I thought I’d eat it.
Drew: Okay.

What You Should Know About Carbohydrate Counting If You Have Diabetes
Carbohydrates are not all made equal. Learn which to skip and which to green light.
To understand the function of carbohydrates in diabetes, you must first understand how your body converts food into energy. When you eat, your body converts the majority of the food into sugar (glucose), which is then released into your bloodstream. When your blood sugar rises, your pancreas releases insulin, a hormone that helps transfer sugar from your blood into your cells for energy. Diabetes occurs when your body does not produce enough insulin or does not utilize it as effectively as it should, leading sugar to accumulate in your system. So, what comes next?
What Causes Blood Sugar to Rise?
All nutrients can be converted to glucose, however some are more easily than others. Carbohydrate-rich foods (pasta, rice, and other starches) can be turned into glucose more quickly than protein. As a result, they have a disproportionate effect on blood sugar levels—which is especially dangerous if your insulin production is low or your cells become insulin resistant due to type 2 diabetes. As a result, your doctor has advised you to “watch your carbs.” But what exactly does that not imply? We asked the professionals to explain it to us.
Carbohydrates’ Function
Don’t believe everything you hear: Carbohydrates, despite their reputation as villains, perform an important role in giving energy to your organs, muscles, and tissues. “Carbohydrates are metabolized into glucose, and insulin transports glucose from your bloodstream into your body cells to be used for energy,” explains Dr. Soumya Hullannavar, Lead Ayurveda Endocrine Specialist at Diabetes Reversal Clinics & EliteAyurveda Clinics. That energy is what allows you to go up a flight of stairs, carry groceries, and even breathe. “Carbohydrates are found in breads, cereal, noodles, rice, grains, fruits, starchy vegetables, and more,” Allen notes.
Carbohydrates and Insulin
The issue arises when there is more sugar in your blood than insulin can transport into your cells. According to the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, high blood sugar levels can lead to blood vessel hardening, kidney failure, and stroke over time. “By eating a lower carbohydrate diet, you lower the glucose in your bloodstream, allowing insulin to work more effectively,” Dr. Soumya explains. You may be able to control your diabetes by food changes, or your doctor may prescribe insulin, other injectable treatments, or oral diabetes medications to help you regulate your blood sugar and avoid complications.
How Many Carbohydrates Should You Consume?
According to Dr. Soumya, everyone is unique, as are their carbohydrate needs. “Your healthcare provider or a registered dietitian can provide you with specific carb requirements to meet your needs,” she explains. “The American Diabetes Association also offers a carb-conscious approach to meal planning, including recipes and plating guidance to keep carbs in check.” Because obesity and diabetes frequently coexist, your doctor may advise you to lose weight if necessary, according to Dr. Soumya.
Carbohydrate Timing Is Important
It’s not just what you eat, but also when you eat, according to Dr. Soumya. With diabetes, timing is critical for blood sugar regulation. “Usually, if carbs are eaten with protein or fat, blood sugar rises more slowly and to a lesser extent,” she says. “That’s why carbs eaten later in the meal can be more beneficial—glucose levels will rise more slowly because other things in the system will slow it down.” She recommends starting your meal with protein or vegetables and saving the bread for the finish (or skipping it entirely).
Examining Nutrition Labels
According to Dr. Soumya, learning to read food labels will help you keep track of your carbohydrates, but it may need some detective work. “For the nutrition label, focus on carbohydrate content, added sugar, and fibre,” she advises. “Select options that have less than 7g of added sugar per serving.” (Another way to put it: 5% or less of your DV for added sugar is considered low; 20% or more of your DV for added sugar is considered excessive.) Dr. Soumya emphasizes that it’s about more than just carbs: “High-fiber foods with six or more grams of fibre per serving are ideal for slowing the release of glucose into the bloodstream.”
Excellent Low-Carb Snacks
Snacking can help you eat more vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and healthy fats—foods that can offer you a boost of energy without increasing your blood sugar. According to the American Diabetes Association, lower-carb options include popcorn, sugar-free gelatin, celery sticks, carrots, cucumber slices, cherry tomatoes, boiled eggs, and cheese sticks. Having fewer carbs, however, does not give you licence to ignore serving size. One whole wheat cracker, for example, may have 2.1 g of carbs, but who eats just one cracker? After a handful, you’ve eaten double or triple the amount of carbs listed on the label.
Breakfast Carbohydrate Swaps That Work
To help with glucose regulation, Dr. Soumya suggests skipping the Captain Crunch cereal in favour of something lower in carbs and higher in fibre for breakfast. “High fibre breakfasts like oatmeal with ground flax or a smoothie with berries and a healthy fat (i.e. avocado or almond butter) can be a great way to start the day,” she explains. Can’t live without them? In this high fibre, low carb pancake recipe, replace the sugar with a banana and the wheat flour with almond flour.
Carbohydrate Control during Lunch and Dinner
According to the American Diabetes Association, one approach to eating a sensible portion of carb-containing items at lunch and supper is to limit carbs to a quarter of your plate. The first step is to Avoid jumbo-sized plates; instead, seek for ones that are around nine inches across. Then, half your plate should include non-starchy veggies, a quarter lean protein, and a quarter carbohydrates. Eating out can be more difficult for carb control; minimise your restaurant visits, Dr. Soumya advises. “If you eat out for lunch frequently, start your meal planning by packing leftovers from dinner,” Baker suggests.
There is no one-size-fits-all solution.
With an expanding variety of treatment options accessible, diabetes and the amount of carbs that are prescribed for you are not one-size-fits-all. Based on your body size and activity level, your healthcare practitioner and a qualified dietitian will help you develop an individualized plan for how much carbohydrates you will need in your diet. Your appetite, hunger, and whether or not you need to lose weight will all be considered.
Our Outlook –
How are we able to Treat Diabetes Completely?
“Madhumeha” is the term for Diabetes in Ayurveda, which means ‘Sweet urine’. The manifestation of diabetes is through thirst or urination. According to Ayurveda, due to accumulation of Vata Dosha. Vata dosha accumulates in the large intestine and travels to the pancreas, which hampers its functioning.
Sometimes, Pitta Dosha also leads to diabetes. This is when Pitta gets accumulated in the small intestine before moving to the liver and may cause damage to pancreas. As the main constituent of Pitta is Agni, it burns out pancreas leading to Diabetes.
If the above things are taken into consideration, the treatment of Diabetes in Ayurveda starts with proper cleansing of the body and balancing of doshas. The treatment includes herbal combinations that are prepared based on individual Prakruti and Vikruti analysis. Ie. The treatment is based on a person’s body composition & which dosha is dominant. The treatments like Dhara, Udwarthanam, Thalam, etc are followed to reverse diabetes. The treatment also includes Panchakarma & Yoga procedures to address the root cause of disease. We have seen many patients successfully reversing Diabetes and now living a healthy life.
Unlike other treatment procedures that jump straight to symptom management, we address the root-cause of the disease. Our treatment for Diabetes has proved to achieve a near cure and symptom-free state. We focus on diet, use of potent herbs, meditation, massage with herbal oils and yoga. These classical ayurveda practices have proven & shown sustained results in our Diabetes Treatment.

大家好! CL, SC and I enjoyed a yummy buffet lunch. The spring roll in sweet chilli sauce, tamago with sakura shrimp and ebiko, pandan coconut rice, sweet and sour seabass as well as vegetarian dumplings were especially tasty. For beverage, I chose warm low-fat milk over coffee and tea although, if they had pu er cha (Pu Erh tea), I would've alternated between that and low-fat milk. Overall, it was a nice meal and we enjoyed ourselves.

Pa and I returned to the vegetarian diner we ate at a few weeks back. Instead of bento, Pa had herbal soup noodles and I chose angelica herb soup noodles with added vegetable dumplings. My dish came with vegetarian 'mutton', konjac 'prawns', tau pok (tofu skin puffs), carrot, lettuce and Chinese tea mushrooms, which are much like tea eggs. Also, I'm avoiding Mike Chen's videos for awhile; he makes noodles look even more delicious than they already are and the craving he triggered this time is insatiable! To be fair, he's great and I have nothing against him; he's just too good at promoting food 😅

Besides rotating plant and animal proteins for meals at home, I have vegetarian food weekly when dining out, sometimes twice a week. Colourful vegetable dishes look so attractive, I wanna order them all! I've come to appreciate how our unpretentious, homely hawker fare relies purely on the freshness of ingredients to create their vibrant - and, very importantly, incredibly delicious - offerings. The end result: equally aesthetic and tasty meals as 'artistically plated' ones for those of us who eat moderately healthy AND, it's proudly ours. Contrasting textures, at once complementary and complex flavours, and food that embraces diners with familiarity like a warm cuddle at home, hawker food embodies all of it.
Tumblr media
Whether it's moderately healthy or plant-based meals, our vibrant local scene has risen to the challenge. Brown rice is boring, dry and hard to people like me, but our hawkers offer fluffy and moist unpolished rice congee that is so yummy, as a hardcore white rice enthusiast (for now, add noodle enthusiast), I willingly eat it once or twice a week. If we want fish or veggie variety, all we have to do is visit different food stalls. This can be fun, like a mini adventure, when we ditch the car on weekends and hop on public transport! Delicious nourishing food plus a fun mini adventure - sounds like a recipe for good health to me!

Like people living in other Blue Zones, many of us here in Blue Zone 2.0 don't buy into the hype surrounding 'superfoods'. To us, it's done to drive up prices so that we all pay premiums for something that might just be marginally more nutritious (or maybe not at all) and make a few people very rich. What we have is equally good, very nourishing foods, such as pomfret, which has the highest level of Omega 3 amongst all fish (see the article in my previous post), as well as a variety of veggies that offer a wide range of benefits. As long as we make the effort to eat moderately healthy with what we have, we'll continue to do just fine. 下次见!

In the ever-evolving world of diets and nutrition, the ketogenic diet has risen to prominence, capturing the attention of health enthusiasts and weight-conscious individuals alike. With its focus on fat low-carb, high- consumption, the ketogenic diet promises to unlock a world of health benefits while promoting weight loss. In this review, we delve into the intricacies of the ultimate keto meal plan, exploring its advantages, potential drawbacks, and overall impact on one's well-being.
Understanding the Ketogenic Diet:
The ketogenic diet, commonly known as the keto diet, is based on the principle of drastically reducing carbohydrate intake and increasing the consumption of healthy fats. By limiting carbohydrates, the body is pushed into a metabolic state called ketosis, where it begins to burn stored fats for energy. This process leads to weight loss and several other health benefits, including improved blood sugar control, enhanced mental focus, and increased levels of "good" HDL cholesterol.
The Ultimate Keto Meal Plan:
A well-constructed keto meal plan focuses on nutrient-dense, whole foods while strictly limiting or eliminating foods high in carbohydrates. The ultimate keto meal plan provides a wide array of food choices, allowing for a satisfying and enjoyable culinary experience.
Breakfast:
A typical keto breakfast may include dishes such as avocado and smoked salmon, topped with poached eggs and a sprinkling of chia seeds. Alternatively, a delicious low-carb omelet with spinach, feta cheese, and cherry tomatoes can start the day on a nutritious note. Bulletproof coffee, a blend of coffee, grass-fed butter, and coconut oil, has become a staple for keto enthusiasts, providing sustained energy and mental clarity.
For lunch, a refreshing Cobb salad loaded with mixed greens, grilled chicken, bacon, eggs, andavocado, drizzled with olive oil and lemon dressing, is both filling and flavorful. Another option could be a zucchini noodle "pasta" dish with pesto, cherry tomatoes, and pine nuts, offering a keto-friendly twist on a classic favorite.
Dinner:
Keto dinners often revolve around delicious protein sources, such as grilled steak with garlic butter and sautéed asparagus. A mouthwatering pan-seared salmon served alongside cauliflower rice and a side of steamed broccoli provides a perfect balance of nutrients. Cauliflower crust pizza, topped with tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, and a variety of low-carb vegetables, satisfies those pizza cravings without compromising ketosis.
Snacks:
Keto-friendly snacks can include a handful of mixed nuts, crisp cucumber slices dipped in guacamole, or cheese slices wrapped in deli meat. These snacks help maintain satiety between meals while keeping carbohydrate intake in check.
Benefits of the Ultimate Keto Meal Plan:
Adopting the ultimate keto meal plan can yield numerous benefits. Firstly, the diet encourages fat burning and weight loss, making it an attractive option for those seeking to shed excess pounds. It has shown to be especially effective in reducing dangerous abdominal fat, which is associated with an increased risk of chronic diseases.
The keto diet has also demonstrated promising effects on blood sugar control. Individuals with type 2 diabetes or insulin resistance may experience improved glucose levels and reduced dependency on medication under medical supervision.
Furthermore, the keto diet has shown potential in promoting mental clarity and focus. Ketones, produced during ketosis, are an efficient brain fuel source and may lead to increased cognitive function.
While the ultimate keto meal plan offers a wide array of delicious and satisfying dishes, it is not without potential drawbacks. The initial phase of adapting to the keto diet, commonly referred to as the "keto flu," can cause flu-like symptoms such as headaches, fatigue, and irritability. However, these symptoms are temporary and can be mitigated by staying well-hydrated and ensuring sufficient electrolyte intake.
The diet's strict restriction of carbohydrates may also prove challenging for some individuals, particularly those accustomed to carb-heavy diets. Social situations, such as dining out or attending gatherings, may require careful planning and adjustments to maintain ketosis.:
In conclusion, the ultimate keto meal plan presents a tantalizing journey towards optimal health. With its focus on nutrient-dense whole foods, the keto diet can lead to significant weight loss, improved blood sugar control, and enhanced mental clarity. While it may have some initial challenges, the long-term benefits of the keto diet make it an enticing option for individuals looking to transform their health and well-being.
As with any dietary change, it is essential to consult with a healthcare professional before embarking on the keto journey, particularly for individuals with underlying health conditions. When followed responsibly, the ultimate keto meal plan can open the door to a world of flavorful and nourishing possibilities, empowering individuals to achieve their health and fitness goals
