I've seen some people ask for comparisons between Pen's Chinese and English lines, so I made a small compilation to show the biggest changes that most baffled me.
There is a kind Chinese player, Yu, who offered the fandom much of the info and insight contained in this post, and she was the first to shed light on these differences! Without her enthusiasm, I doubt people would have started investigating Pen's original lines ;_;
Under the read more because this is long!
Brief premise: the Chinese dialogues in the game are often less "harsh" than the English ones. For example, Qi can sound rude and condescending in English, while he's pretty polite, if not a bit aloof, in Chinese. Justice's lines in English rely on the typical "hey pardner" cowboy accent, while in Chinese he's very professional, almost overly so.
That said, the English writer who worked on Pen made it no mystery that he based his characterization of Pen on Gaston from Beauty and the Beast. There is even a line directly referencing the movie: "[...] when I was a boy I ate four dozen eggs every morning to help me get large. Now that I'm grown I have five dozen eggs [...]"
As such, English Pen sounds much different from Chinese Pen. He's more patronizing and rude, and the writer added stuff that it's simply not present in the Chinese text. So while in English Pen can sound like a knucklehead obsessed only with muscles and training, surrounded by adoring women and fans when in Duvos, in Chinese he shows a different, almost more innocent side, as if he were a very tall and big child who has never had a day of legitimate and healthy fun in his life (and that's carried across in some of the English lines - that's why his English version is a bit contradicting sometimes).
Here are some examples:
One of his lines as a Good Friend is:
Tumblr media
Here it's implied that Pen gives the Builder a hard time not only to push them to improve themselves... but also because he likes doing it, referencing his friendship mission where he admits he doesn't like teaching people anything, he just wants to fight them.
Meanwhile, the Chinese version says:
Tumblr media
I keep calling you a weakling just to urge you and encourage you to exercise hard and break through your limits. If you won't have me to protect you in the future, you will have to become an eagle for me!
Here "eagle" is a reference to the way Pen calls the Builder in Chinese: 小弱鸡 "little weakling/little chicken" - and the latter is a rude way to call someone in Chinese, especially if they are a man and the "chicken" character (鸡) is repeated twice (but 鸡 by itself is also slang for "female prostitute"... so if you want to read it that way, Pen can call the Builder "my little slut" when in a relationship. HEH.)
In any case the tone in this line of dialogue is much different from the one in English, and Pen sounds genuinely enthusiastic.
Another example:
At the start of the game, Pen asks the Builder to craft a Sword and Shield for Burgess, who apparently misplaced his own. It turns out Burgess hid them under his bed, so when the Builder tries to give the weapons they crafted to Pen, he will tell them to keep them.
Tumblr media
As usual, the English version is mocking and patronizing ("Hah! That'd be rich!"). In the Chinese version, Pen first compliments the desert:
Tumblr media
In this case, take it back and use it for yourself! Use it to explore the desert and fight those monsters - what a thrill! The desert is very dangerous, but it is also full of charm.
Then there is the line about Logan and his band:
Tumblr media
Hey! Maybe you can still find traces of Logan's gang! If you subdue them, you will gain both fame and fortune! [Okay, see you next time] [not shown here]
Now, some romance stuff : >
This is the description for the Robo-Love Couch. In English it says:
Tumblr media
Meanwhile the Chinese description:
Tumblr media
Referred to as the "Love Sand Machine", Peng Hu specially built a loving sofa for you, pieced together from the remains of robot monsters in the ruins.
He specially built a loving sofa for the Builder. It seems like a silly detail, but wording is important!
And yes, Pen's full name is Peng Hu, 彭虎. Peng is his family name, Hu his birth name. Hu 虎 means "tiger", and now you can understand why Grace suspected him to be Tiger the spy. But that would have been too easy!
Peng 彭 is a common Chinese surname. Its original meaning is believed to be "sound of war drums" (sad implication), but it's also used as an adjective to mean "big". So Pen's full name can mean "big tiger" :D
Back to the couch! Lines are different during the date in Paradise Lost, too.
Tumblr media
Come on, little weakling, come and sit next to me. Let's give this trophy a "kiss of victory"! Do you do this with everyone you date? Wait, it seems I'm regretting it a bit... Happiness comes too suddenly...... (Kiss Peng Hu)
In the English version, the Builder can ask "How many of these thrones have you built...?", implying that Pen has had so many lovers he can craft this couch in a matter of few seconds. But in Chinese, the Builder's question is much different, it's more like: "Damn, are you always so over the top when dating someone??"
One of the biggest differences is in this set of lines:
Tumblr media
Okay.
Meanwhile, in Chinese:
Tumblr media
Today's experience made me realize that love has used a deadly locking technique on both of our hearts. Let me no longer doubt the feelings between us. This love is true love! Now, I am even more unwilling to take my eyes away from you! Haha!
I MEAN.
Also, in Chinese Pen never mentions the infamous 12 girlfriends when the Builder and Grace question him in jail. Yu confirmed that throughout the game Pen doesn't brag about his love life or his popularity with women, probably also due to the negative way Chinese culture sees this kind of "bragging".
Not only Pen and many other characters are younger in Chinese Sandrock (Pen's age ranges from 25 to 27, while he's confirmed to be 31 in the English localization), but he's depicted as being not very experienced in relationships in general. He basically only knows how to fight, punch people, and destroy stuff. Anything else - having friends, being with someone who truly loves him and whom he truly loves, having a normal life - are something he never experienced before. He did date (see his final letter later), but he's not described being the Casanova of Duvos like he is in the English version. In fact, it seems people only liked him due to his body and status, and a remnant of this piece of characterization is left in the English text when he says:
Surely, you understand… I am quite the prize. I can’t take myself off the market just to become arm candy for you to show off at your little buildy guild awards or whatever it is! No, what I desire… is true love…
Furthermore,
In Chinese, he says during the Masterclass friendship mission: "To be honest, I never thought I'd be able to make friends, let alone with someone of your stature/body size! But here we are, with a sick relationship!"
In English: "You know, Skinny, I’ve never had someone I really considered a friend before. Furthermore, I always promised myself I’d never be friends with anyone who didn’t have an awesome cape, but… you made me break that promise."
"I never thought I'd be able to make friends" is different from "I’ve never had someone I really considered a friend before." In the first line, the focus is on Pen ("I don't know how to make friends; I'm not good at it; it's not for me; how do you do it?"), in the second it's on other people ("I've been surrounded by people all my life, but I don't consider any of them to be a friend of mine; yeah, I call this one 'friend', but... they are not really really a friend")
The Chinese line is much sadder, and it shows how lonely Pen's life has been. One of his main characteristics, after all, is being "special", "the strongest", "different from everyone else"; but more often than not, being special and different also mean being "lonely". ("I must say it gets lonely at the top… What I wouldn't give for a truly talented opponent who could really keep me on my toes! Alas...")
And now, the grand finale :'>
A screenshot from Yu's playthrough, Pen's final line:
Tumblr media
Farewell, Yu. This time it's for real. You're free.
The Protector, the bracelet Pen will leave for the Builder in the cave, is called "Guardian of Love" (爱的守卫者) in Chinese. Its description says:
A very delicate bracelet that protects the wearer's wrist. Wearing it gives the wearer a feeling of being emotionally confined. Perhaps this feeling is similar to what Peng Hu often said, "Marriage is a boring bondage".
Dear [name], I've had a little more time to think lately in this so-called Atara Maximum Prison, and I'm more than a little sorry that I couldn't bring you along to accompany me. Well, it's my fault. Anyway, you are still the most beloved lover I have ever been with, and one of the few that I continue to miss even after a breakup. So, I'm going to forgive you. Yeah - I forgive you.I don't think there's a chance we'll ever be together again. You're just doing what you're supposed to do in your position, so there's nothing to complain about. I should have tried my best to recruit you from the beginning, and it would have been the best way to keep you with me. Of course I don't blame you, you're indeed excellent. I also left you a final challenge. In some ruins, there are a few of my most valuable things, and if you can get them, they're yours. It should be easy to get there, using the tricks I've taught you. My dear little weakling, this is the last time I'll call you that, I believe in your abilities. Remember, don't slack off on your training. We won't meet again. (but 后会无期 can also mean "meeting at an unspecified/unclear date")
And finally, if romanced, Pen will leave for the Builder 5 pieces of gold, 2 diamonds, and 1 Protector. 521 (and 520) are a cute way to say "I love you" in Chinese, because when read aloud they sound like "我爱你, Wo ai ni, "I love you". But in some cases, 521 also means "Yes, I will [marry you]" - and Pen does drop a diamond ring after his final battle (apparently he drops it only if you romanced him, but it's unclear yet. I'm pretty sure he didn't drop it during my Fang playthrough, while he did drop it when I romanced him, but I'll need to check that).
WELP, this is pretty much everything I got on this! If the kind Yu will tell us more or I find anything else, I'll update this post!

sometimes i think about how muriel could actually probably not look like he does in his official design considering the circumstances of his upbringing and implied (?pretty loud & clearly stated if i remember right) eating disorder like cmon im not a gym expert but hed have to be eating gaston worthy quantities of eggs to be that buff his whole life
i felt so genuinely happy when he started breaking through it at that masquerade and it led to my second tangible moment of falling in love w him, when he scored two in a row by not liking mangos cause same omg finally somebody with sense around here and devouring that lemon which ive done at more than one a party too in my time so that constituted a moment of deep kinship for me XDD soulmates 4 lyfe jvzcjtfd
Yes! - when you look at his child sprite, there's no space for muscle to grow there. It does make me wonder if all the bulk we see on him is leftover from fighting in the Coliseum? They probably would have wanted to keep their top fighter in somewhat decent condition, and then his life since would have involved lots of physical labor to survive off the grid with minimal food intake.
It does make me wonder how his shape changes over time, as he settles down with MC. Does he develop a comfortable dad bod? Does he never really gain the biggest appetite, and end up with a (still big) but less muscular frame? Does retaining physical strength become a way he keeps himself feeling safe, so the muscle stays but with some added mass from a healthy diet?
.... we'll never know ... O.O

Beauty and the Beast you say? Hyperfixation unlocked. Even if you don’t like it, I am curious what thoughts there may be
PS I love your work 💙
Let's do Beauty and the Beast.
To start off with, I like the old animated film. It was my grandma's favourite and I loved watching it with her. I didn't really appreciate it until I was around 15 years old though, before that it was one of those movies that I would watch if it was on, but i wouldn't seek it out to watch it.
What I think is quite sad about this film, and a lot of the fairy tales Disney has produced in its past, is that there is no way they could remake this now. I know they have, but we were VERY lucky that we got the remake that we did and that it came out in a time where Disney's feminist agenda wasn't so awful.
I have this horrible fear that if they did remake it that Belle wouldn't be Belle anymore. The story would change. She'd be some woman who would want nothing to do with the Beast by the end of the film (like woke Amazon's Cinderella, or even Disney's Mulan.) It's good to change the narrative, but if you're a company who is remaking a film you are just remaking it, you are following the old plot and merely adding little bits in. A remake isn't a remake if it's a completely different story.
Belle's romance with the Beast is the heart of Beauty and the Beast and it works on so many levels.
Let's start with the title. Beauty and the Beast. We can interpret this, firstly, as how the villagers say it in the opening song. Belle's name means Beauty, therefore she is the Beauty in Beauty and the Beast. But if we analyse the title further we can look at what the plot is about. The whole movie hinges on the idea that the Beast falls and is loved in return by someone without his beauty. And we know he was beautiful, it's stated at the beginning. His narrative hinges on the fact that he's stripped of his beauty and that beauty itself isn't purely what we can see. Beauty and the Beast, therefore, becomes the Beast's title, it's his struggle with beauty itself and his perception of it and how him being turned into this creature has warped who he once was and made he himself into someone who can't see his own beauty anymore. We could also look at this from a symbolic point of view. What is beauty in this movie? What is the beast? We, as humans, have both sides inside of us, we coexist with this concept that we can be monstrous and beautiful at the same time and that there is beauty in the monstrous side of us too. Look at Gaston, he is, supposedly, a handsome man, yet his actions are monstrous. He is the Beast in this movie because his actions make him so. We could, therefore, apply the title to him as well.
If we move on from the title we can start to look at the characters. I want to focus on Belle a lot because I feel like a lot of who she is can sometimes be forgotten in the wake of a lot of criticism of this film. Belle doesn't have stockholm syndrome, I'm just going to say it. She doesn't. Her feelings for the Beast develop because of his own actions to her, not because he stayed the same and she saw goodness where there was none. The Beast changed for her. She noticed this change. In fact, I hate the idea that people change for other people. The Beast didn't change, he just found his humanity again. Actually, we'll start with the Beast.
So, the Beast when we first meet him properly is acting not good. He's threatening Belle's father, he's imprisoning him and Belle. But, I mean, in retrospect, we can see his reasonings behind his actions. We need to remember certain things here, while we do see this mainly from Belle's point of view, we need to remember that things have happened to the Beast. He's living his own story and we get a glimpse of this at the beginning. He turned away a stranger in the dead of night and was transformed into a monster because she was secretly a witch. Was he a child? Was he not? I don't think it really matters. What does matter is that some stranger came to his door, he turned them away and he was cursed for it. A bad thing, maybe. But this is medieval times. Yes she was an old woman, but he's a prince. Do you know how many diseases were rampant in the medieval period? Royalty was sequestered away for a reason whenever illnesses broke out. He's used to keeping his distance from the people, and yes, he shouldn't have made fun of her appearance but, again, he's a prince, this is his attitude that he does actually learn and change from as the years pass.
Back to Belle and her father. Her father breaks in. Let's remember that shall we. Her father breaks in, makes himself at home, and while his staff are more than happy to have this guy here, he is the master of the house, he should have the say on who stays in his home. Also, I know the rose is just a rose, but, again, if he's willing to steal a rose what else is he willing to steal? That, along with self esteem issues, his royal status and the fact that maurice broke in, I mean, the Beast kind of has reasons to imprison Maurice. He does. I'm not sorry about it.
Anyway. With Maurice in custody the swap happens and we now have Belle living here. Here's the thing, he knows she's pretty. The villagers tell us they know she's pretty and the Beast has eyes, he knows she's pretty too. His lack of self esteem, the fact that he now has her living with him, that she's the daughter of the man who crossed him, he's not wrong to be a bit tetchy at first. At first. I do not excuse how he yelled that she could starve, but, again, he's been alone a long time and his anger issues stem from that old witch who ruined his whole life. The point I'm trying to make is that the Beast, after that, is very hands off with Belle. He lets her keep to her side of the castle, he pretty much leaves her alone. The only thing he takes issue with is her destroying something that is keeping his hope for change alive. I would be pissed too. But let's remember that he also helped her right after with the wolves.
From the start we, and Belle, see that the Beast has some good qualities to him. For all his anger he did ask Belle if she was hungry and he did save her when she was being attacked. These glimpses are in stark contrast to Gaston who we don't see any redeeming qualities of anywhere in this movie. It's why the Beast can become the good guy in the end, because he wasn't shown to be a complete Beast from the beginning. We are given sympathy for him when we hear how he became a Beast and then we are shown again and again that he isn't this monster that he's shown to be on the outside.
It's nuanced and I love it.
Again, compared to Gaston, the Beast, in my opinion, is allowed to be the good guy, he didn't give Belle Stockholm syndrome and he finally found himself again because of Belle and her ability to see more than a monster.
Gaston is a menace to women. He is. He has the catchiest song, but he is a full on narcissist. I enjoy his character a lot because he's very charming and he's funny but he's villain coded from the start. Also, the only reason he likes Belle is because she's beautiful. He doesn't like that she's educated or that she's nice, he just likes that she's pretty and that their children will be pretty. He's terrifying because he's realistic. There are men like Gaston out there and they are charismatic, but if you listen to what they're saying, it's actually terrifying. He rouses and sets a full on mob on the Beast. He gets Belle's father institutionalised. He threatens her with her father to get her to marry him and then he locks her in her house.
Remember, the Beast imprisoned Maurice (who is turning out to be quite a menace as i write this) not Belle, she just took his place and he was very nice with her afterwards because he knew it wasn't her punishment to take. Gaston on the other hand did all this while proclaiming it was what was best for Belle.
Finally onto Belle. Like I said, Belle doesn't fall for the Beast until he shows her his humanity. She has standards too. She would rather be with a furry than with Gaston. Namely because the Beast betters himself. He learns to read, he interacts with the world again, he smiles and he dances and he lives after years of misery because Belle showed him that she cared about him, that there was still something human left within him, even with the last petal falling from the rose.
Not much I can say about the side characters. I like them, they give it magic and it's tragic that they were trapped in this spell with the Beast- again showing how extreme this freaking witch was. But the main story is what holds my attention even after all these years.
I feel like if you say she was pressured into loving the Beast then you've not really watched the film properly. Even the remake didn't suggest that Belle was pressured or just loved him because she was stuck with him. They both made the effort and I think their story is really nice.
I think they could have given the Beast a better human design, but I think it's just the way with characters who spend a lot of time as one specific thing will always look weird when they transform back. Like, Kenai, I know he's Kenai in the beginning, but by the end when he's under that blanket and human again I'm so used to seeing him as a bear that it's weird.
If you have more to add to this analysis then yay, I love this movie and I think it's great.
Also, sorry I've just tagged this onto an ask, I was going to make a separate post but this works too and thank you for liking my art!!

Disney What-Ifs
A lot of people love thinking up what-if situations for Disney movies. Someone even wrote a book series about them called Twisted Tales. Frankly, I don’t think people are digging deep enough. So, here are some what-if that I came up with.
Beauty     and the Beast: what if Belle had her own curse? What if Gaston or some     jilted lover of her mother cursed her to become intangible like a ghost     whenever she got mad? Or turn into a plant monster every Sunday? Those are     just two examples. It doesn’t even have to be a literal curse; it can just     be a big problem she has. I read a fanfic called Kissed by a Rose     where Belle was pregnant from being r&$ed by Gaston and Beast has to deal     with potentially raising a child that wasn’t his. So original! And speaking     of the Beast, what if he was more feral and wild; dragging around fresh     prey, and speaking in grunts and growls? What if he attacked Maurice     because he thought he was threatening his pack? (the servants) What if he     was already feral before being cursed? The deaths of his mother and/or     father could’ve triggered something that sent him into a slow spiral of     brooding isolation until he completely lost touch with his own humanity.     Belle could help him Regain his humanity. That’s romantic! And while I’m     here, can I point out that female versions of Beast are super uninspired?     They’re just smaller, thinner versions of canon. Why not make her a dragon     or a harpy or a humanoid leopard?
 Aladdin:     what if the Genie could grant unlimited wishes? That was the case in the     original story. I don’t know why they whittled it down. It’d be an     interesting test of character for Al; see if it doesn’t go to his head.     Or, they could simply add stuff from the tv series. Lots of freaky stuff happening there; evil mermaid turns Aladdin into a shark, evil cat woman     turns Jasmine into a snake monster; there’s a wizard with a skeleton arm     and a cyclops oracle. Jafar was just the tip of the sand dune. Or if you want a more serious story, you could expand on the religious aspect;     mention the Five Pillars, of Islam, use the carpet as a prayer rug, Al and     Jazz could meet while attending the local mosque! And you could include     Aladdins’ mother as a character like they were originally planning. I’d     love a protagonist raised by a cool single mom (wicked step-mothers don’t count). Not to mention adding elements from other Arabian Knights.     In the third movie, they have the Forty Thieves. Why not include Morgana;     the super-smart slave girl who defeats the Forty Thieves? Kids would love     her!
 The Little Mermaid: what if Arials’ sisters were more involved in the     plot? In the book, they each had their own coming-of-age surface adventure     before she does. Why not mention that? And what do they think about humans?     And what if Tritan turned them human so they could look for her on land?     (I had a dream about that once) Or they could have a sub-plot montage of     searching the ocean and having their own adventure. And what of Eric knew     Arial was a mermaid? He could have seen her tail as she swam away and been     like “Merpeople are REAL!” and sailed of to find her. Or you could rewrite     the sequel. Instead of Melody running away, Arial could get kidnapped, and     Melody could go on an epic journey to find her! (had a dream about that     too)
 Hercules:     just like with Aladdin, add elements from the tv series. Friendly     gorgon, angry Mother Earth, nightmare quilt, fun stuff! And I don't remember     if Herc's cousin Iolas was ever on the show, but I’d include him in the     movie. He’d be a great badass normal (and something of a mischievous enabler)     I know the show kinda retcons the movie, but I still like it. Also, since     Hades is out of the picture, what if Meg became the new goddess of the     underworld? She already proved her self as a hero, that should count for     something.
 Snow     White and the Seven Dwarfs: what if Snow White was raised by the dwarfs?     What if the Queen abandoned her as a child in the woods, and the dwarfs     found her and became her honorary family? Or, what if the dwarfs knew her     parents? In The Magic Riddle, the dwarfs are really wooden statues built     by the heroines’ grandfather and she brings them to life with a kiss. Or     what if the dwarfs were cursed like in Red Shoes and the Seven Dwarfs?     And the Prince! What if he and Snow White were childhood friends? What if     the Queen kidnapped him? What if the dwarfs were the Prince split     up in seven different aspects of himself? There’s an actual fairytale where     that happens. Not to mention expanding on the apple symbolism. What if apples are Snow White’s favorite food? What if the apples colors had some kind of meaning? What if during her big sleep, Snow had a mystic vision dream     quest? What if at the end of the movie, the mirror shows the couple riding     away and smiles in approval?
 Sleeping     Beauty: lots of ideas for this one. The Good Fairies could be a three-way     couple. Philip’s mother could be POC. Aurora and Philip could have     literally met in their dreams (sign that they’re soulmates). Malifecent     could kidnap Aurora after cursing her, then Philip and they fairies could     dungeon-run the castle like a video game. There could be SA undertones in Mal’s treatment of Philip and Aurora (because just because a villainess is sexy, doesn’t mean she’s redeemable). Those magic weapons could be     fairy family heirlooms. Merryweather’s mother could be the original Briar     Rose who slept a hundred years. Can you tell I’m writing a fanfic?
 Cinderella:     What if she ran away from home after the ball? I get that she’s abused and     conditioned and there’s some gaslighting going on, but abused kids run     away from home all the time. Especially after a freaky pseudo sexual     assault by her sisters. (lots of kids get assaulted by their stepparents, I’m surprised that never went into a retelling) Maybe after having a taste of the good life, Cindy decides “I am not going back there” and takes off to the woods     with her animal buddies. Or her animal buddies could hold an intervention     saying “Those meanies tore up the lovely dress we worked so hard on! Let’s     ditch them!” And then it could be like Donkey Skin or Thousand     Fur. And then the Prince could accompany the Duke on the big search     and see Cindy in the wilds dancing with the other slipper (saw that in a movie. Slipper and the Rose. Look it up.) And speaking of the     Prince, he could be looking for her because she let slip some of her awful,     awful, home life and he wanted to help. That’s a great way to characterize     someone!
 Alice     in Wonderland: what if instead of merging the two books together into     one movie, they made two separate movies based on each book? Tim Burtan     kinda did this with his Alice movies; but he stills merged stuff from both     books into both movies. I can’t think of any movie that sticks to just one book. Plus: since the events of the books are somewhat episodic, the events of the movies can be split up like in Winnie the Pooh. Package     feature!
 The Rescuers:     what if the movie was closer to the books it was based on? It’s a     beautiful movie, but the writers must have gone through several script     changes before the final product, and I would love to see them all. At one     point they had a singing bear character who gets his own spin-off. He     sounds like fun.
 The     Jungle Book: same as above, what if they went with the original script.     They had an entire screenplay, complete with songs, that was closer to the     actual books that Old Walter rejected because he thought it was too dark.     0_0 I am intrigued! And, just like Alice, the original Jungle     Books were pretty episodic, so their adaptions could easily be made     into a package feature.
 Tangled:     Another easy one. What if the movie included more elements from the story?     What if Gothel never learned Rapunzel ran away? What if Rapunzel never had     her big revelation? Eugene could become her secret boyfriend, they could     be married by the pub thugs, and then just like the original, Punzie could     become pregnant. Then Gothel would find out. She could blind Eugene and     whisk Rapunzel away somewhere. Then Eugene would wander the woods trying     to find them. He could meet Varian and Cassie. The Stabbintons could get     involved. Punzie could have her princess revelation wherever she is and     escape. The King and Queen could be grandparents! How is this not a thing     by now?
 Frozen:     honestly, anything would be better than canon IMO. Elsa could be raised by     the trolls. Anna could not have her memory erased. Kristoff could be the     princesses’ childhood friend. The king and queen could handle things a     little less stupidly.  All that spirit     stuff could’ve been revealed early on. Hans could NOT be a bad guy. Or his     badness could be hinted at early on so it isn’t so random. Younger sister     Anna could be the one with ice powers. Or she could develop her own powers     throughout the movie (I’ve read that the writers considered giving her     control over the northern lights). They could have scrapped all that Ice     Queen foolishness and used the characters to retell Snow White and Rose     Red. Or The Snow Maiden. Or they could’ve scrapped the whole     thing and actually retell The Snow Queen story.
 Finally, any of the lead characters can be made trans, disabled, and/or POC.
 That’s all I got for now! Thank you for reading! Please leave a comment! I could do this for any movie studio! AND, feel free to use any of these ideas to write your own fanfiction!

Brünnhilde urges Sieglinde to flee to the east, to be brave and defiant, and to put up with all dangers —hunger and thirst, thorns and rocks— to laugh, whatever her distress and suffering. One thing will sustain her. In her womb she is carrying the noblest hero in the world. She should keep for him the fragments of the sword, collected from the place of his father's death. He will forge them anew and, one day, will wield the sword. Brünnhilde gives the unborn child his name: 'Siegfried' — 'Peace Through Victory'. With great emotion, Sieglinde hails this sublime miracle and praises Brünnhilde as the most glorious of women. She thanks her, and promises that she will save the dear child for him whom they loved. With a parting blessing, the unfortunate Sieglinde hurries away.
Richard Wagner's Die Walküre, set to English prose by Peter Bassett. Bolded emphasis added.
If Brünnhilde's appearance to the doomed Siegmund in Act Two was an annunciation of death, her message to Sieglinde in Act Three must surely be an annunciation of life. There is an obvious parallel with the angel's annunciation to the Virgin Mary that she will bear a son and shall call him Jesus. This is hardly a coincidence. Siegfried will be a hero in a legendary sense because he will be fearless, kill the dragon[,] and win the ring. But he is already a hero or, if you like, a deliverer, in a philosophical sense, in that he symbolizes hope and life amidst hopelessness and decay. Just as Mary fled into Egypt to protect the infant Jesus from the wrath of Herod, so Sieglinde flees into the forest to protect the unborn Siegfried from the wrath of Wotan. The Christ/Siegfried parallel was referred to by Wagner in his essay Die Wibelungen of 1848, as was a conceptual link between the Nibelung hoard and the Holy Grail. And incidentally, in 1849, one year after writing his prose sketch for a Nibelung drama, Wagner sketched out a five act tragedy called Jesus of Nazareth. Nothing came of this, but it is not too fanciful to see how aspects of the Gospel story might have fertilised his poetic treatment of the story of Siegfried. The poem (as he called the libretto) of Die Walküre was written only a couple of years later. At the mention of her son's name, Sieglinde's spirits soar ecstatically. O hehrstes Wunder! —O sublime miracle!— she sings, and proceeds with her own Magnificat, praising Brünnhilde for being the bearer of such news, and vowing to save the infant 'for him whom we loved', that is, for Siegmund. The motif which expresses the words O hehrstes Wunder! is sometimes known by the title 'redemption through love'. Wagner called it 'the glorification of Brünnhilde' and 'the theme in praise of Brünnhilde'. We hear this motif for the first time with Sieglinde's words, and we shall hear it only once more, in the closing bars of Götterdämmerung. It will become the very last musical idea of The Ring. Whatever The Ring's ultimate message is to be, there can be no doubt Brünnhilde will have a central role in proclaiming it.
- Peter Bassett (The Nibelung’s Ring: A Guide to Wagner’s Der Ring Des Nibelungen, pages 77). Italics original, bolded emphases added; slightly reformatted paragraphs to avoid walls of text.

😎 I saw your announcement on the final chapter of The Darkest Knight that it’s coming out tonight!!!! I am super excited to see what happens but I am a bit sad to see it come to an end ( this is before I have read the chapter) . Hopefully this isn’t the last time that we see this universe, Wolverine R and DK Nat . But either way I am happy that I got share my silly little thoughts. I also saw that post you made about me when a another anon asked about me vulture and thank you so much for your kind words , it warmed my little heart. This is solely dedicated to the DK universe in case this is the last time.
I think that it’s a yes and no answer to your question Vulture about if pre - mutation sickly little! Wolverine R and her being nervous about her future and her feelings about her (mostly her mother’s ) expectations as well as her life being pre written. Yes she felt that weight of the expectations of her time of being born a woman in high society and the expectations of her mother. Plus added on to the fact that she is it for the Howlett line ( even if she had a older or younger brother….. a brother just in general and he died. If she was born as a only child it doesn’t matter either way because now she is the only one left that can continue the bloodline even if the family name itself dies out) …….. yeah that is a lot of pressure on anyone let alone A CHILD. Let’s talk about Elizabeth Howlett’s expectations for her daughter for a second because if just coming of age and marrying a wealthy man ( the top candidate for R was Kit Morris) wasn’t enough R had to be the absolute best in all of her subjects ( she was homeschooled with countless top notch tutors/ teachers) but being well cultured and proficient in languages ( mostly French because they were in Canada but it is a sign of a wealth that R knows all these languages . Probably learned two to three languages plus Latin ) and music ( violin and piano, and of course singing) . Elizabeth wanted to show off her daughter like a prize winning dog rather than her own child and claim R’ s achievements as her own. She wanted R to be the “diamond” of R’s season ( if anyone has seen or read the show / book(s) of Bridgerton then they would know that the “diamond” is a young lady chosen at the start of the dating season and she is considered the most beautiful, charismatic and desirable bachelorette of that season) . Elizabeth and her mother, and her mother before that so on and so forth were all chosen and were the diamonds of their respective seasons that they came of age. The expectations , showing off , and insistence of marrying for money were all passed down in vicious circle. But R was also sooo young that she didn’t fully understand or grasp everything, she knew of ….. felt the pressure/ expectation however that was always there for everyone of high society to have that pre written life. So R didn’t really put much thought into it at that point.
R always had that restless feeling and energy never entirely felt comfortable in high society ( I have already discussed how she hated the fake smiles and pleasantries. And such that went along with high society) . R always having to bite her tongue and keeping all her thoughts to herself, to only ever be seen and not heard. Even then she was mostly not to be seen. R had ideas and plans ….. want for more than just marriage and more pointless parties, politics and fake personalities or personas . It terrified her that she would end up just like her parents( she KNEW her parents marriage was loveless)and more importantly sooo cold , calculating and heartless like her mother. Later on R would identify HEAVILY with the older Disney princesses and characters that wanted more than marriage, wanting adventure ( Bell’s song in the opening of Beauty and the Beast really spoke to her. Wanting more then this provincial life , wanting more than being someone’s wife. But Kit wasn’t like Gaston , Kit was actually a good guy) . Kit Morris and R had a very love - “hate” relationship ( by hate both of them would say they would rather be with chickenpox than send the summer with the other …. while they were hugging the other from behind or holding their hand ) . They bantered and bickered a lot over the years ( I have decided that Kit was in fact three years older than R . So he was born in 1829 while R was born in 1832) , once R just straight up head butted Kit ( like a goat) and he had a scar on his lip from that . He would always pull on / out her braided hair/ styles (Never with any force that would cause any ACTUAL PAIN to R more of an annoyance) that she was put in by the maids and she would always push him away on his chest as well as kick him in the shins. Both would shoot back and forth verbally ( NEVER ANYTHING ACTUALLY HURTFUL) and calling each other names ( again never anything actually hurtful ) that both find annoying . Kit hates that R was thought to be subdued, to hold her tongue and thoughts . To always look and act like the PREFECT LADY so he would purposely provoke or bait R into “ fighting back” and to be that Firey little spit fire he has always known and love her to be , speaking her mind and lusting for adventure. Kit would always think “ there she is , there’s my girl” whenever he succeeds in provoking or baiting her into her true self.
When Kit and R would play and be mischievous they would pretend that they were and would take up the names of the adventure books characters ( the same book that Kit got for R her birthday ) Kit was Laster and R was YN . The whole reason she took up the name YN ( among other reasons I have mentioned before) was so she still had something tying her to Kit and the GOOD of her life before, so much of her is made up of Kit and even though as an adult she doesn’t remember Kit she still carries so much of him . Kit always told her to never bite her tongue or hold her thoughts, never let them destroy her fire and passion. To never let her adventurous spirit die. Kit was from the south and had a SOUTHERN DRAW , R thought that Esther Hudson was the one that sent Rouge to her but if she actually remembered Kit then she would shake her head the SECOND she heard Rogue’s accent and thought “ Kitten you son of a Bicth !!!!!! You just HAD TO send me a kid” . Kit always said she would make a ACTUALLY GOOD mother unlike R’s heartless one . The only reason she would think that it was Esther was because she was the one that R even vaguely remembered unlike Kit Morris . Kit grew up tall ( 6’3 / 6’3 and a half and that is giant in those days because the average height of a man was like 5’6 or 5’7 ….. maybe 5’8 ) and very strong. He had strawberry blonde hair and big brown eyes ( remember R said she would marry him if he towered over her in height and was as strong as an ox ) , he never did stop looking for R after she went missing . Going missing himself at 28 never to be seen again. If R’s mutation never happened and she stuck around she would have married him. ( I don’t know if my last post about Kit Morris got through but if it didn’t let me know and I will repost that)
Closing last thoughts of this post. This is pure head canon ( as far as I know) but it’s thought that the RR actually puts the girls on birth control so that they either won’t get periods or had VERY LIGHT periods. It’s also extra insurance to make sure that there isn’t any ……. accidents with the ……. kinds of things that the girls do on missions or the kind of missions that they undergo . Not to mention the kinds of …….. things that the guards / soldiers or officers ( anyone that is owed favors from the RR ) do to the girls and things that must go on there . All that means is Nat has either had really really light periods or no periods for a vast majority of her life , so she might have forgotten what a period is like or that periods aren’t normally that light. So I am imagining that Nat’s first real period in years happens and she is in a great deal of pain and confusion and she is panicking a great deal , R smells the blood and the fear as well as hearing the painful whimpers comes bolting in …….. then it hits R that she is just on her period and that Nat is safe and not in any trouble. R is awkward and stuttering when asking if Nat needs anything …. as she is then turning to walk away with some deity that is when Nat whimpering asking R to hold her. Just to cuddle her, watch movies and eat snacks/ chocolate.
Interesting fact is that young girls, women, and period having folk used to get their first periods much older than when we do now ( I don’t know the exact age of when this happened) and that is because of the process and a whole bunch of other stuff that goes into food( I might talk more about this later or expand on the thought in a different post). So that means that R probably had her first period long after or sometime after her mutation and on the run most likely with no idea of what was happening to her body and why she is bleeding, why she is in so much pain . God i can’t even imagine how scary that would be , not only her mutation hitting out of the blue and then THIS ( remember this was a time when female monthly hygiene products was DIY , god that would be a completely DIY situation from start to finish for R’s first time getting a period) !!!!!! Also you didn’t answer the question Vulture about what age was R when she had her mutation hit ( 10 to 13 year age range) ? It will depend on how R old was to how old a ( 13 to 16 year old) Kit excited to see young R and her family ( but mostly R ) …… only to find the aftermath of the night of R’s mutation a couple of days after and the absolute heartbreak to learn that R has disappeared without a trace and met some unknown fate .
I think that Nat would try and get closer to Rogue because that is R’s kid ( even if both R and Rogue don’t admit it out loud) and to your statement vulture of you don’t know how willing Nat would be to let Jean in on a plan to take care of R on her period . Well Nat doesn’t know much about taking care of people….. in general and she knows Jean knows R well and does care about her on some level ( plus Nat already knows that Jean isn’t competition ) . Not to mention Nat knows she will need all the help she can get because R WILL NOT LET herself be taken care of easily.
I will leave off with this thought , I believe that R’s way of pronouncing darling was forever changed because of Kit and she has the ever so slightest southern twang to it whenever she says it. She doesn’t notice it and can’t stop it even if she wanted to ( when she still had the memory of Kit she would curse him in her head every time she said darling because she heard it then and she KNEW about it then ) . She also speaks French when she gets really really tried or when she’s really really upset to the point her brain just shuts off ( R’s brain shutting off because she is upset IS NOT the same as the berserker mode Wolverine goes into when they are in a FURY) And yes she has spoken French on more than one occasion because of Scott ( that is just when he is being extra dickish ) , Kit got her to speak French more then once ( but it was more endearing annoyance than anything else , with Scott she was really contemplating murder) .
Ohhh I almost forgot , R is most definitely a fan of the newer and modern Disney movies ( Mirabel and her grandmother - that whole “ No matter what I do , I’ll never be good enough for you” , Louisa and her song “ surface pressure” and the whole attitude towards Bruno was a PERSONAL ATTACK TO R!!!!! That was from the movie Encanto) and I am sure that Jean and or professor X would be more then happy and willing to look into fixing the brainwashing from Disney movies/ cartoons for Nat , like how they are digging into memories/ looking for information to fix Wolvie R’s amnesia.
I am (unsurprisingly) behind again and trying to catch up on posting all of your HCs, thank you for bearing with me. 🥰
I hope you liked Part 4! And I don't think this will be the last we see of Wolvie!R and Nat, they really grew on me and I am excited to continue their story.
R was really born at the wrong time and into the wrong family. But she got to outlive all of them and live through over a century of adventures, so I'm sure it doesn't bother her too much anymore.
Hmm...sounds like R may have had a bit of a crush on Kit then. 👀 Which I would be totally okay with (but maybe some other readers would headcanon that she is not into men at all, and that is ok too!).
Nat would be so happy to have her own personal heater that is R. ❤️ She would probably insist on sleeping on R too for the nights she's on her period and R just grumbles and pretends that she doesn't like it when she really loves it lol.
I think R could be 13 when her mutation hit, since that's also kind of the average age of puberty (but way back then like you mentioned it happened a little later than it does these days).
I imagine Nat will let Jean show her how to help and then proceed to shoo Jean away every time she tries actually getting close to R lol.
I'm sure unbrainwashing is not an easy process, but I think if Nat has R and the support of the X-Men, she'll be okay to watch old Disney movies again without getting triggered or freaking out.

Within the pages of the Ars Goetia, a demon whose image is as beautiful as the phoenix graces the pages, though its sins are as dastardly as any other of its kind. Solomon foretells that, though Phenex will spend a thousand years in penance attempting to reach heaven, it will be deceived and remain trapped in hell for eternity.
Akechi Goro finds himself in the role of Phenex, reborn from the ashes of his demise as he claws to escape a cruel fate in the pits of hell. The lord of the afterlife offers him a second chance at life, at a price of which he has yet to fully understand the cost.

Hello again! May I request an imagine with Ben Florian x chubby gn!Reader (in 3rd person) where the reader is the child of Madam Mim and LeFou (their last name could be Fouley maybe, since neither villains have last names of their own)? The reader is very big on alchemy and magic (most notably shape shifting, broomstick flight, and decently powerful dark magic- just not as much as Mal) who is slightly unhinged but is very socially anxious, intelligent, and bookworm-ish. They also train magic with Merlin in Camelot heights on the weekends and openly use magic and practice alchemy, despite both being frowned upon (these bits of info more or less be used as padding to give the reader more character).
I was thinking the plot could go something like this:
Set in the first movie, they could've been randomly selected/chosen as a 5th person to go to Auradon with the reasoning being that Ben wanted a more morally neutral villain kid to help bridge the social gap between the villain kids and the Auradon kids. In an effort to apologize for their father's involvement with Gaston and such, the reader decides to face their social anxiety and talk to Ben, getting close to him. He and the reader from then on hang out fairly often to talk about their days, feelings, and childhoods; making it safe to say that the reader starts to harbor a crush on him. Flash forward to a couple hours after Mal and Ben's date, and he realizes that he doesn't feel the same way about Mal (since by then the love spell had completely worn off), but he doesn't know why. He ends up hanging out with the reader two days later, after calling it quits with Mal and he realizes that he likes them.
You ofc don't have to go with that exact plot, and are free to change things in it. I apologize of how long and specific this request is! You don't have to cram everything into one part and are free to message me about anything if it helps!
I've added it to my list!

Day one of emptying my link doc went well enough. I think I got through like..... three or four of them? FFN is probably the worst site to try to archive. There isn't even a button to show the whole work and the late-aughts-esque ads are awful. I'm just going to leave the AO3 links in my bookmarks and if there are any searches, get some bookmarks out of them.
If I ever get through this document, maybe then I'll actually bookmark the searches I already have open on my phone. Or, I could sprinkle them into my link document.
In other news, I tried really very hard to focus on typesetting the Time Turner today. I cleaned up the first page of the table of contents. This volume has like four or five pages of table of contents. Instead of typesetting the Time Turner, I spent way too much time fucking around with the idea of Belle as hardened to near-narcissism by the poverty she's faced in her life and the cruelty by her step-mother, and turning that narcissism on the unexpected lord of the castle that looks like it's been abandoned for a century. I've decided that Beast and his (what is word) of freakish, living inanimate objects will have been frozen indefinitely in time while a cloak over the castle makes it look like it's been moving, abandoned, through time, to outsiders.
I'm not, like, actually a writer anymore, so I guess I don't know why I'm getting so invested in a story that I'll never actually stretch into a proper manuscript. I guess the storyteller at my core can only be finally extinguished in one way and one way only.
Anyway, who knows how long Beast has been frozen in time, simultaneously forever a naïve child as much as a...........(fill in the blank, something something, noblesse oblige×wisened by time and books??), so of course, stories have been spread to keep people away from this particular castle. Stories Belle had never heard before ambling into this little village in an isolated valley where she hopes her step-mother, and step- and half-sisters will never hear of her. This Belle is just as stunningly brilliant as the Belle in the original writing of the tale, but being so intelligent was no blessing for a growing girl who had been socially isolated, neglected and verbally marred for more of her childhood than she hadn't.
Even though her stomach is somehow more empty than her purse, Belle resolves to locate this castle--after all, the tales must have a granule of truth to them in there somewhere, and there doesn't appear to have been any nobles looking after this area for a long time. They must have lived somewhere. Belle had always fantasized about her prince charming whisking her off to a kingdom far, far away, where she could wear a new dress made of gems every day. Even long-crumbling ruins of a castle are still a castle, right? Even if there isn't even a speck of gold dust remaining?
Anyway, I got a few paragraphs further than this, but I'm grade A exhausted after my coffee worked a little too well this morning, and I still haven't thought of the end. Belle banished, maybe a Gaston....... idk. Absolutely no ideas. I'm not really one for creating the kinds of endings I occasionally indulge in. Beast of course gets to be Adam, the seventeen year old prince who gets to be among people--his people, and his noble peerage--again and even though he has great compassion toward Belle, he can see through her facade now, to the ugliness within.

I didn't mind the 2017 BaTB remake too much (I actually really loved Luke Evans as Gaston), but for the life of me I will never understand why the press made such a fuss over Lefou being gay? I mean, it was basically just a bunch of hints and a half second scene of him dancing with a man at the end. Like...what was everybody so obsessed about?
fellow batb 2017 enjoyer 🤝🤝🤝
regarding lefou i honestly have no idea why people made such a spat about it but it was so fucking annoying lmao. same with the people who complained emma watson was too much of a feminist as belle (especially when belle has always been a feminist icon in terms of how she was written and portrayed even in the original animated film). to me it's still the best live action disney film and it will always have such a special place in my heart for the little things it added to the story like belle's mother, how does a moment last forever, days in the sun and, of course, evermore, as well as the changes to characters like maurice and even the beast (specifically the beginning of the film where he's actually a pompous adult and not a LITERAL CHILD WHEN HE WAS CURSED, but i also really how they handled his relationship with belle a bit more because i think in some ways it feels a little more...realistic? to me? also little things like how he and belle bond over their shared love of books and poetry and how they both lost their mothers at a young age).

The first of five “Fly” movies, The Fly is Jeff’s pick for this episode. It’s one of those movies from his childhood that indelibly printed its horrific scenes in his memory. Watching now, he is still impressed with the movie, especially in the way the story is told and with the Ben Nye-created makeup effects.
Chad agrees that The Fly is a fantastic horror film. It feels more real to him than a lot of science fiction-horror movies of the 50s adding that it is the characters that help make it so. The reveal of Andre’s (David Hedison) fly head feels almost like the face reveal in The Phantom of the Opera (1925). The Fly was nightmare fuel for Whitney when she first saw it as a child on Halloween night, complete with a candy bag that included fake spiders. Daphne fell in love with The Fly during the first few minutes when blood drips down the side of an hydraulic press and the night watchman’s scream morphs into a telephone ringing in Francois’s (Vincent Price) office.
It’s probably not surprising that the Classic Era Grue Crew thinks The Fly is a true classic of the horror genre. If you’re ready to refresh your memory, as of this writing, The Fly can be streamed from HBO max as well as several PPV sources. It is also available on physical media as a 20th Century Fox Blu-ray and as one of five Blu-ray discs included in Scream Factory’s The Fly Collection. Also included in The Fly Collection are Return of the Fly (1959), Curse of the Fly (1965), The Fly (1986), and The Fly II (1989).
Gruesome Magazine’s Decades of Horror: The Classic Era records a new episode every two weeks. Up next in their very flexible schedule is one chosen by next episode’s guest host, Steven Turek: Horrors of the Black Museum (1959) starring Michael Gough.
Please let them know how they’re doing! They want to hear from you – the coolest, grooviest fans: leave them a message or leave a comment on the site or email the Decades of Horror: The Classic Era podcast hosts at [email protected]

Okay, apologizes, BUT
Tomorrow (for me) it's Valentine's Day and I wanna do my first drawings of this Adventures of the Magick Maidens along some other stuff, so I desire you're amazing help of headcanons / maybe a small prompt if you have one of the girls, their dorms, and so on so forth with the genderswapped staff added in (My sis says she sees Vargas being super protective yet sweet to the girls. Boy maybe be based of Gaston but he rings strong feminist to us-)
Dorms And Teachers With The Magicked Girls
~~~
Heartslabyul is even more chaotic than it normally is. Students have been getting bolder around Riddle, even going so far as to flirt with her, but it seems they also immediately give up when she gives them the collar.
Some Savanaclaw students probably need to be put on a child leash. While those from the Afterglow Savannah and students with actually good morals (like Jack) know to keep their distance from Ruggie, there are still some students who are dumb enough to try and get a peek. This ends up with them being thrown in the pool and smelling like wet whatever animal part they are o-o.
The twins do a good job keeping Octavinelle under control but there are still some bold students who take advantage of Azul’s card business to get a meeting with her. Any students who get too close need to sleep with the fishes :).
Scarabia is a lot more respectful considering how Kalim and Jamil are close and have huge respect from their students. They actually join together to protect Jamil from any students that try to flirt or creep on her.
Pomefiore is similar to Scarabia in the sense that they respect Vil and won’t actively creep on her, but they amp up their praises and flirting to 110%. Rook ends up being more of a bodyguard to Vil in case that she gets uncomfortable and while she can definitely take care of herself, it’s better to be safe than sorry.
Ignihyde is… awkward. The students are too nervous to approach Idia, but they’re also confident enough to stare at her… you know. Ortho ends up being around Idia 24/7 because no one would dare say anything weird in front of the babey u-u.
Diasomnia has no magicked girls, so they’re mostly left unaffected. Malleus does end up with Idia sometimes for support because the whole thing with her dorm is awkward. Some students from there might end up actually helping one of the magicked girls if they’re evr in a weird and uncomfy situation.
Crewel, Sam and Crowley were somehow magicked too o-o. Trein and Vargas go full protecc mode so while Trien does all of the protecting through giving people stern talking-to’s, Vargas is basically also like the bodyguard for them.
Hey let's talk about queer coding, Disney villains and why this whole conversation always makes me mad.
Tumblr media
Coding is when an author implies a character to be from a certain socio-cultural background without actually saying it out loud. The examples that come to mind are JK Rowling writing Remus Lupin's lycantrophy as a metaphor from AIDS and Frozen 2 using the Northuldra's conflict with Arendelle as metaphor for colonization and cultural genocide.
Queer Coding is when certain work of fiction implies that one of the characters is part of the LGBTQ community, but without confirming in canon.
A pretty common criticism against Disney, is that, supposedly, "ALL" villainous characters from the classics were secretly queer coded, hitting at some kind of secret homophobic agenda. I'm not here to defend Disney, it's just that the logic behind some these arguments and analysis is so bad and flawed that makes me cringe.
First, coding needs authorial intent. The author writes a character in way that is meant to make the audience draw a connection between them and a real-life group. The ability of the audience to see a real-life group in that character is essential to convey the message the author is trying to tell. If there isn't authorial intent, we are left only with the audience's headcanon.
Don't get me wrong, to me all interpretations of a fictional work are valid, but an author isn't responsible for interpretations that fall outside his intent, for good and for bad.
An author cannot take credit, for example, for accidentally writting character that certain minority group took a liking to. Let's say that this character is heroic and the audience felt sympathetic to their struggle. Their interpretation is valid, but if the writer takes credit for that, it will be just shameless opportunism, since it was never their true intention. Sometimes the blue curtain is just a blue curtain.
So, it's okay for queer people to relate to Disney villains. A lot of people in general do relate to them better than to the protagonists. But it's in the audience, not in the author. Disney cannot take credit for that, nor can it take for any other character. Disney cannot take credit for Luca x Alberto and Raya x Namaari even if they wanted to.
Just to add another example, JK Rowling writing Lupin as metaphor for people struggling with AIDS is probably the most problematic coding that I ever saw. Werewolves are actually highly dangerous in canon, Lupin was infected as a child by someone who really wanted to infected him and most of the werewolves side with Voldemort in the Second Wizarding War. She is totally responsible for these interpretations since she is the one who invited her readers to draw the connection in the first place.
And this is not to say that there isn't queer coding in the villains of Disney canon. Ratigan from The Great Mouse Detective and Governor Ratcliffe from Pocahontas are both written as two very effeminate male characters, specially if compared to the rest of the cast. Ursula from the Little Mermaid was literally inspired by a drag queen, Divine.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But the standards used in some of these analyses are so vague, so broad, so arbitrary, that you are excused in thinking that all over-the-top, comical villains are automatically gay.
Hades spends the whole film touching Meg, hugging her, comically flirting with her, and somehow he's the gay best friend. His whole personality is heavily influenced by James Woods, a super conservative republican christian, who changed the character from the originally planned Jack Nicholson type to satanic car seller, but he's totally gay right?He did a lot of ad-libbing in his recordings, especially in Hades' dialogues with Meg. If you ask me Hades is totally coded more as an abusive boss or smooth-talking pimp than anything else.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gaston was described by his animator as a "grotesque prince charming". He's a brutal caricature of the super macho types, a mockery of the cishet frat bro, but he's still often included in the list of queer Disney villains.
Tumblr media
I once saw an article that claimed Lady Tremaine was a "men-hating lesbian" and I was left as... Did we watch the same movie?
Jokes aside, if it's to include Disney characters under the rainbow umbrella using every arbitrary trait or popular headcanons, Disney is full of queer characters, both villains and heroes.
Bashful, Flower, White Rabbit, Mad Hatter, March Hare, Cheshire Cat, Alice, Ariel, Sebastian, Beast, Cogsworth, Genie, Hermes, Clopin, Victor, Hugo, Laverne, Mushu, Mulan, Li Shang, Timon, Pumbaa, Kuzco, Pleakley, Jumba Jookiba, Merida, Edna Mode, Go Go Tomago, Elsa, Honeymaren, Oaken, Raya, Namaari, Luca, Alberto. Cross-dressers, outcasts, sassy bachelors, badass spinsters, sensitive men, fierce tomboys. There are already enough people to start a gay-straigh alliance in the Magic Kingdom.
