Mike’s wall art

I love seeing analysis about ST set design because it really spells out so much of the story without verbally telling you, and ive seen much discussion abt the details of mike’s room in s4 (that one way sign haunts me btw). buuut there are two pieces of visible wall art that I don’t really see get talked about on here (that i’ve read) and I just have a few things to say about them and what i think they might be telling us about Mike’s character and upcoming journey (hint: going into the UD)(hint: making plans and leading the party)(hint: byler)

so idk if this has been pointed out or if it’s common knowledge atp but the two pieces circled above are lithographs by artist MC Escher; Hand with Reflective Sphere (left)

and Relativity (right)

The artwork is beautiful as you can see (canon Mike Wheeler has great taste in art). Escher was most known for his intricate “impossible constructions” which are optical illusions of paradoxical space, he was also the inventor of the impossible cube:

this is some pretty cool nerdy, mathy stuff that I’d expect mike would be into, but looking at it from the context of his character and the direction of where the story is headed, there were 3 immediate possible readings that popped into my head which point toward 3 different (yet coexisting) directions:

He likes the art — It’s true, this art taps into Mike’s interests. Valid but boring. zzzz. snooze. You could argue that these posters should be taken at face value, but I just feel like in a show like ST —where the main cast knows of and is in various ways affected by an evil alternate dimension— having a character with wall art that references perspective/dimensional anomalies doesn’t really tell us much about his specific character or story. We’ve known that the ST set designers use a character’s space to show us who they are as people, these two artworks need to tell us something about Mike and his journey. And maybe Mike’s sensibilities about the world at large are shifting into nihilism with everything that’s happened in hawkins and the art reflects an absurdist outlook of future (teenage stuff, growing up, etc. etc.)

It foreshadows Mike’s s5 arc — I love this one. Mike is one of the few in the main cast who haven’t been in the upside down proper, so this art could reference not only that he’ll go into the UD in s5 but also that there could be dimensional anomalies involved in his travel or journey there. Perhaps this is how they’ll be able to find Max— by bending the laws of physics and using the mechanics of dimensional travel against itself, perhaps to open new doors or travel in different directions (hint: time travel 😏). And i think the reason this art is in Mike’s wall is bc it will be Mike who formulates the plan to find Max and retrieve her with the help of El and Will’s new powers 😏 (g*d knows i want to see leader Mike make a come back)(and Will with powers).

Will Byers — we know Mike and Will are tied together by the narrative and so I think these artworks could be directly pointing to Will with big red arrows. This point is corroborated by simply analyzing the formal qualities of the artwork, both individually and as a set. Hand with Reflective Sphere is about optics and perspective, about seeing, but also about the flattening of space. Relativity is about space, dimension, and paradox, but also about impossible perspective/vantage point. When read together the objective reading of them is about sight and space and paradox, about how the flattening of space helps us see something new and impossible. While Mike hasn’t experienced the dimensional travel into the UD proper, many of those closest to him atp had; El, Will, Nancy… but the reason i think these two posters remind him of Will specifically is because out of everyone else who has been in the UD, only Will experiences the feeling of being stuck there and of seeing into both dimensions at once; the stuck view-master, true sight. Mike associates these things combined (dimensional travel and dimensional sight/perception) with Will.

Also, Mike is a nerdy guy, he seems interested in this kind of stuff for the fun of it so he could’ve had sciency charts that reference the subject of visible light and paradoxes the way Suzie does, but instead he has not one but two fine-art pieces by a pretty big graphic artist that reference the subject of sight and space. Also, Idk what it is about the fact that it’s fine-art and not movie/game/dnd art that makes me also associate it with Will— the self-proclaimed visual artist of the show. The words are all jumbled up in my head rn but; artist. sight. all-encompassing. dimension. paradox. new perspective. -> -> -> -> Will Byers (is this a hint to wills powers??) etc. etc. etc. you get it

Secret 4th option (ties into #2)

Mike gets Vecnaed and this forces him into extensive self-reflection and the labyrinthian trials of finding himself and mastering his fears(maybe he’s already begun his self-searching and that’s why we see this art at the beginning of s4). cue cool musical montage of Mike navigating his own memories and mind-scape to find the answer that will make everything make sense while also hiding from vecna and buying the party time to find a way to end him.

so a long time ago (2018, when i had time and ambition) i wanted to make a zine of gon and killua traveling around the world (landmarks of earth) and doing some stupid silly shit that they might do (like climbing the eiffel tower barehanded, like dan goodwin did long ago at the CN tower). that's one of the many ways i thought in my head about how gon and killua would reunite! in their late teens/early 20-somethings, and be absolute fools, but fools together again :)

I'd like to think they would both communicate with each other since they have phones, just that it would be hard for them emotionally, and gon's more likely to reach out first within the first year or two! I'm a big fan of fics where they'd still text each other from oceans away, and killua and alluka would make a stop in whale island, or promise to ;w; I've also made some art of them calling and texting each other. it's just sweet to think about! (any other queer couples in an LDR would relate tbh. i did with my gf for the longest time)

as for whether gon gets his nen back, I don't think i want that to happen? it keeps it interesting, it makes the consequences of his actions more...real and permanent. it leads me to think about how killua might treat him differently, now that they're not on as equal terms in fighting ability as before. gon would fucking try to get his nen back through any means for sure though! I don't know if there's any other instance in the hxh universe where someone else who lost their nen ability could get it back, so it's kinda a big question mark for me. it'd be suuuuch good angst if gon works way harder than before to get his nen back, only to fail and have to just...cope with being ordinary. it's a continuation of what he's probably going through now that he's back home. lots of stuff to obsessively think about on work hours!

Friend Found

George spins his camera around, showing off where he’s streaming from. He’s tucked himself away in a corner of Orlando, a special spot Dream showed him. A hidden little park known only to locals. George thought it’d be the perfect place to do an outdoor stream, take advantage of the weather.

“Nobody knows where I am!” He jokes, taunting his chat.

There are a few people around but not many. A lady is somehow jogging in the heat, and a guy—you—walking around with a camera around his neck.

“Sapnap told me I was too pale even though Dream’s paler than me! And I said I’d do an outdoor stream.” He explains. “So wow! Look at the flowers! Life!”

The area has an abundance of greenery. Literal flowers and nature.

George checks chat on his phone, watching the messages roll in. A few people agree with him on his Dream remark, and a few are talking about the fact that he’s doing a stream from outside.

“Look, there’s a bird fountain and everything.”

Flipping his camera, he shows off the cracked fountain. There’s no water or birds in it, but it’s the thought that counts. He manages to also catch you in the background, making him wince. Hopefully you wouldn’t sue George for that or anything.

“I’m in a proper park. There’s a playscape somewhere around here!”

Should he go there? He didn’t want to risk spotting a fan but there wasn’t much to do here either. Eyes lingering on chat, he scans the messages.

As his phone refreshes a new influx of messages pops up on a new topic. They’re talking about you. Giving your name. Spamming it even. Just from his chat George can gather you’re some type of travel vlogger who’s pretty popular among his fans.

“That’s probably not whoever you’re talking about.” George tells chat in an attempt to turn them to something else.

It doesn’t. Instead, they’re advocating for him to talk to you. Ask you. Potentially embarrass himself and force him to never come back here. But chat’s in a riot for it and he’s desperate for something to do. What's there to lose?

Not like he goes outside much anyways.

“Excuse me?” George asks, making his way toward you. “You wouldn’t happen to be a travel vlogger that my fanbase may or may not be obsessed with?”

Great, now he sounds like an egotistical idiot. He mentally berates himself for it but doesn’t say anything.

You turn towards him, eyebrows raising. “You look… familiar. Sorry, what’s your name?”

George regrets everything. He should’ve just told chat no, left it.

“George.” Then, as an afterthought, “Not found.”

“Oh!” You exclaim. “Then yeah, I’m the travel vlogger your fanbase may or may not be obsessed with.”

You extend your hand for a handshake that he takes. Your hands are warm, warmer than his.

Thank God you seemed nice.

“My stream was begging for me to ask, sorry.” George sheepishly admits. He motions to the camera, subtly informing you you’re being streamed.

“I’m honored.” You joke. “You’re British, right? What are you doing in Orlando’s secret parks?”

“What are you?” He banters back. He lives here now, you… well. He doesn’t actually know but he can guess you don’t off whatever accent you have.

“Fair enough.” You laugh and George relaxes a little. “But I assume you need someone to show you the most entertaining places to amuse your stream?”

George could refuse. Say he has Dream. But the few seconds he’s known you have him interested, far more than he’d like to admit. Besides, he’s never even met a travel vlogger!

“Yeah. That'd be, uh, nice." Great. He's stumbling over words now. You definitely thought he was weird, right?

You smile at him though, and he smiles back. "What do you think about an abandoned shack?"

"If it has a connection, I'm in."

As his stream starts to take a turn, he realizes something.

He's just made a friend.

Hello! I wanted to make an ask about a what-if that was floating around in my head for a while (like 2 days.)

The “what-if” being a scenario in which a cub appears in the little dawn au form the future. Only that the cub is not Wukong’s and Macaques, it’s trafficlights trio’s future cub. (They can be from an alternate universe in which MK stay’s in sundown au or from somewhere else.)

What would be everyone’s reaction to the future grandchild/child? Personally I think their personality would be a lot like young MK or Mei (maybe a bit like macaque seeing as they probably spend a lot of time with their grandma?) and that they would be really spoiled by their grandparents and pearents.

I see the child as a female and closer to a bull demon in appearance (cus ya know, their from the demon bull clan? They kinda have to be a bull to fit in?) but honestly it could be what ever you want. (Imagine if they had the face markings like Mk’s side of the fam? Or maybe their hair is black like Mei’s?!)

As for how the child even came to be, I would say that it was through some weird magic (maybe they inserted all their power into a stone? Blood rituals/magic???)

OMG, what if the child traveled back in time to meet their Maba (bama? Baba? Papa?) MK because for what ever reason something happed to MK and he can no longer be around! Maybe he was killed! Idk, at this point I’m rambling.

Sorry for the long ask. I originally didn’t know where to send this because there are like, two blogs making posts about sundown AU and I didn’t know who I should be sending this to (but because Xiaodan is from you fic “little dawn” I decided to send this to you.)

Hello there! Don’t apologize about the length of l the ask. I love to see people getting excited over this amazing AU (belonging to peachshadows/terrible-leviathan, please don’t hold off on giving them some love they deserve the world for their creativity). To clarify, the Sundown Era is their creation while Little Dawn, a fluffier spin off the AU, was expanded on by me with the fic.

As for the scenario, I’d theorize that there would be a lot of chaos. If this is happened during the Little Dawn setting with MK already dropping into the world, SD!Shadowpeach would be thrilled at the idea of another cub/calf to spoil and look forward to - also cementing their time travel theory. SD!Ironbull would he similarly doting while also pushing for the wedding sooner. I mean, it’s obviously going to happen so why not sooner?

Red Son would be flustered and over the moon at the same time at the confirmation of a child and would do his best to “prove” his ability to childrear in front of MK. I feel like Mei would think the kid is cute but also be a little nervous? She’s not at the point in life where she’s ready for a kid. Would still spoil and play with the baby, though.

As for MK? He’s just worried that another universe is missing their kid. He’s stressed and worried for not one, but two babies that don’t belong. He would be flustered about the implications of the baby’s existence if he wasn’t already in a difficult position.

A/N: another chapter of idk what the F i'm doing with this fic but fuck it, we ball. Also I feel like....like I might slowly turn this into a halsin fic...

edit: I changed the name of the fic from Brown Eyes to Wash My Dreams Away

Gwen didn’t know what to do.

She stood there, alone in the docks, brows furrowed. Deep down, she had expected that the conversation would lead to that - that her dreams meant nothing and she shouldn’t be so worried about it.

But Gwen was upset. Walking towards the edge of the pier, she sat down, her feet dangling above the water. She looked out and began thinking: why did these dreams bother her this much?

Suddenly, she heard footsteps approaching.

“There you are.” She heard Halsin. The druid sat down next to her, crossing his legs. “People were starting to wonder where you’ve been.”

“I’ve been here.” She shrugged. “Just…looking at the water.”

The elf examined her for a moment. “Are you quite alright?”

Gwen sighed. “Yes. No. I…I don’t know.” She looked at him, frowning. “Can I trust you with something?”

“Of course.”

The tiefling took a deep breath. “I spoke with Raphael. He said he knew nothing and that dreams were meaningless.” She rubbed her face. “And sure, he’s probably right but I just…” She groaned, frustrated. “These dreams, they bother me. They make me feel things and I don’t know what to do about it.” Gwen looked at the elf. “I feel so confused.” He noticed how her eyes had begun to fill with tears.

Halsin placed a warm hand on her shoulder. “Gwen. Close your eyes. Take a deep breath. Try to clear your head.” He said.

She closed her eyes, sighed, and then sat up straighter, breathing deeply and then exhaling. Gwen repeated that a couple more times and then opened her eyes again.

“Good.” The druid smiled softly. “Maybe it would help if you started from the beginning. The first night you had one of these, what were your thoughts, your feelings about it?” He paused, momentarily. “From there, we could try to figure out what the root of the matter is.”

“Alright.” She took another deep breath. “In that first dream, I remember feeling…inadequate, out of place. I was in this unknown room, wearing my dirty clothes and everyone else was just…looking and snickering at me.” Her brows furrowed. “Although I know now that it was a dream… then, it felt real, Halsin. I felt like I was really there, so much so that I woke up tired.”

“I believe you.” He said in a comforting tone.

She nodded. “After that, I felt suffocated. As if the people would swallow me whole.” Gwen shook her head. “In a way, I think that’s a bit how I feel in real life.”

Halsin looked at her confused. “What do you mean?”

“I mean…when I lived with my mother, my whole life was our house and her. And then I left everything behind to go explore the world but I didn’t really connect with anyone.” The tiefling sighed. “I grew up in the woods, so when I got to the city, I felt like an outsider. There was always something I never heard of, something that I said that wasn’t appropriate. I traveled with some people for a time but we don’t even keep in touch anymore.” She raised her hands. “Hells, sometimes I think the only thing that keeps our little group together are these tadpoles.”

He nodded along to what she said, allowing the sorcerer to figure things out on her own. “For the most part, I felt alone in the world. Sometimes I’d feel even worse, when I remembered I essentially abandoned the only person that had ever cared for me.” Gwen looked at him.

“I guess that blended with the dream. That feeling of not knowing what to do, of being judged for what I didn’t know.” She looked down, playing with her long nails. “I wished there was someone to come rescue me, a knight in shining armor or a prince, like the ones I used to read and fantasize about as a child.” Gwen paused, taking a deep breath. “And he did appear, dressed elegantly in red and with a fox mask. He made everyone else go away and held my hand and danced with me.”

Before she continued, she asked “Do you promise not to judge me for what I’ll say next.”

Halsin raised a brow. “You shouldn’t be worried about judgment when we have such a queer group of people in our camp.” They both chuckled. “But I promise. You may continue in peace.”

“Thank you.” She looked down. “When I was young, by biggest dream was to be courted like the princesses in the stories. And I think…that’s what I felt, in my dreams. I felt…beautiful, desired. And maybe I should be ashamed about it, because he is a devil but it felt good.”

Gwen raised her head, her eyes meeting Halsin’s. She placed a hand over her chest. “It felt good to be desired by this, at first, mysterious man, whose attention was solely on me. Who made me feel beautiful like I never had before. I was feeling…attracted to him.” She paused, the realization of everything coming to her. “And I think that’s what scares me. That I’m falling for this ridiculous devil, whom I barely know because of some silly dreams.”

She leaned forwards and took Halsin’s hands. “But tell me, Halsin. What do you do if the dreams are meaningless but the feelings are real?”

The druid looked at her, deep in her eyes. “To be quite honest with you, this is a very…new situation to me. What I can say is - you cannot control your feelings, and that shouldn’t be a source of shame to you. What matters is how we act upon them, and as far as I know, you were not…throwing yourself into the arms of this devil.” She chuckled at that remark. “You are a remarkable woman, Gwendolyn Gray. Should these dreams bother you again, I hope you’ll feel safe enough to share them with me. I’ll keep my promise.”

She raised an eyebrow. “Full name, huh?” It was his turn to chuckle. Gwen smiled and shook her head. “Thank you, Halsin.” Not knowing how to further express her gratitude, she leaned forwards and hugged him as tight as she could.

When they returned to camp, Gwen felt lighter, as if a weight had been removed from her shoulder. When she went to sleep that night, she sighed contentedly. That peace of mind she was feeling, however, would not last long.

BAKUGOU X READER HEADCANNON FOR MY LOVELY WRITERS

im too delusional for using a tollywood movie to give me a bakugou x reader headcannon but hear me out. Okay so in a past fantasy au life where deku bakugou and the rest of them either own a realm within asian or work for their king/queen. bakugou is prince of the dragon rhealm (obvs) with kiri being his personal dragon. And then there’s you gonna make the reader indian cus why not do it for my south asians but your the princess of a much smaller realm. I’d like to think how the two of u meet is cus suki is travelling around asia as a punishment by his mum for idk fucking something up ( maybe beating up someone from the todoroki family lol ) and so when he’s visiting india he’s near ur realm. And whilst we’re outside your kingdom there’s a few bandits being menaces to a nearby village tryna rob families of their gold and hurt the women. And suki thinks of interrupting but kiri stops him for a moment saying this could cause a fallout with the realms cus apparently this intefers w other peoples business ( crazy ik ) so whilst suki is like arguing w kiri he hadn’t noticed your carriage door open. Only when a shawl sort of waves up and down attracting many of the bandits does he start to focus on you. He sees how the rich silk dresses your skin,the gold jewellery shining under the sun. But damn that shawl he cant see your face. Until a sword pierces through the shawl stabbing three of the bandits. From the cut on ur shawl he sees ur eyes first ( if you guys havent clocked this is devasenas entrance from baahubali i usggest yall watch it ) and from then on he sees your whole face as you fight against the bandits successfully winning.Long story short yall fall in love u find out hes this big prince. sick. except suki gets a message back from his mum telling him to bring you back for dabi so that you can be his wife before he is to return shortly. Ofc u get pissed suki knows his mum however does not have a choice if she is to maintain the peace amongst all realms of else it can cause a huge war. he says he will only bring u as a guest back to his home to which u agree. again long story short baahubali 2 story i suggest yall watch it. but yeh no so basically u go to sukis as a guest not as a potential wife, yell at dabi for his misogynistic view of love, find yourself being the catalyst for a major war w basicaally all the league of villains againt mha main cast. Someway along the line ur kidnapped by dabi raped horribly, tortured blah blah blah. when everyone meets at the battle, youre thrown to the floor for all to see your state. bakugou swears to kill dabi which u both do together, ur given basic soldier clothing after suki coaxed u to take rest instead u reply with “ i fight” but as your both walkign to each other near the end of the battle shiggy crushes bakugous heart. suki falls on top of u, u cry like how wanda did over her brother falling to ur knees before being shot by arrows and dying too. PAST LIFE DONE. so now in the current mha world u and suki r both well known heroes but ur like also top 2 in india but ur now moving to japan for a long term mission at a hero conference ur hand brushes against suki which reminds him a bit about his past life tho he cant see ur face from his memory. when he turns to see who brushed his hand he finds himself in a crowd with so many possibilities. u guys can take it from there

Having done Cancer’s, which had by far the most specific details I’ve ever gotten, Spirit seemed to do that one for me & I just wrote it down. Your reading is the polar opposite. I’ve gone down a whole rabbit hole 🐰 over this, an *entire day* of Googling, Wikipedia, countless historic articles and conservation efforts, just to come up with a broad generalization, time period, and no historical ties to any *specific* anything really. Did they not keep records? Is this area generally ignored in history? I have no idea. If you choose to attempt to find an actual name, date & face, specific information, good luck 🙏 I know fun facts about all sorts of things now, and most are hardly related. Spirit usually gives me bits at a time, and I have to piece it together, like a puzzle. I saw travel, laid out Atlantis and heard “Atlantic”, with 6 Swords I saw Christopher Columbus on an expedition, and was like “no freakin way”…it’s not, but right lane. Spain 💯 similar journey, principle, and purpose. When I got to charms, it was “saw on the Fox”, then it was no…move it to the neck. Weird, but ok. Fox is deceitful, that matched up with the “bad guy” I got in the preshuffle, you cut them off (I assumed.) But nooo. “Fur trade” and then “Fox” after, seeing the saw cutting off the Fox’s head I was like OH. I see. Specifically islands, I’ve researched every fox in South America, and every time I’d finish I would hear “island”, I’m like “there’s nothing on an island!” 😆Whew lord. If it’s not an island it’s not the right spot. There’s one, idk which one, I have to let it go & move on. No names either, just “Europeans in 1800s” that’s as specific as history gets for me…idk if it’s even 1800s, and idk why Spirit is being all cryptic and shit with yours…I can’t win them all apparently.

*You* were the bad guy. From Spain, your character card is The Captain, and you were the big man in charge of…I’m not sure what, initially. I see you on a ship but not as the captain of it. You were someone important, held in high esteem by whoever was in charge of trade/exports, maybe those still in Spain that were receiving. The Hierophant here may be showing a King, or someone in a very high & respected position of authority that you reported to. i love the idea of live actions sokka’s blatant sexism being almost triggered. it comes out when he’s agitated and has been shown up which i think would translate better to live action than just straight up jokes like in the cartoon. i think we’re in an age where misogynistic remarks are made more out of anger than in old timey jokes

“the pride she feels about being a guardian for her village ends up damaging his pride” completely!!! not only do we get to see her as the badass warrior that she very obviously is, but her drive beliefs and motivations behind what she does and who she is are so clearly laid out.

my biggest gripe with the episode was definitely the lack of buildup for sure. and the kiss. not that sukka were ever really slow burn, but that constant distance where they would meet intermittently and have those intimate moments made it feel like they were

maybe that’s something that can be not so much rectified in the next season, but worked on? because if their first kiss came about so quickly, i feel like the conflict of them next time they’re together should be greater than sokka’s overprotectiveness. or maybe it should be played up more - which i guess it will be as their whole arc that episode was condensed to twenty minutes. idk!!!!

ooo i like your predictions!! i feel like if they go with a year or so time jump then maybe it’ll go more similarly for them in s2? sure, they kissed when they last saw each other, but there’s been some time since then.

sokka’s been involved with yue, and i’d like to think amidst her travels with the kyoshi warriors suki has had time for a fling or two herself. they were each others first kiss, their first encounter with someone from the opposite sex their age, and while it clearly meant something to them, they were younger.

idk though, that’s me trying to rationalise their first kiss being so early. i’ve been interpreting their kiss as yes, definitely a romantic one, but also as a thank you from suki for, like she said, showing her the world. for being that last big push towards her leaving.

i’m rambling now so sorry for another long ask!! but on a slightly different note, i’ve seen some float around the idea of the suki and the kyoshi warriors having their own sort of mini subplot in s2 to do with the dai li.

i’m not 100% sold on this idea yet, but i thought it would be an interesting angle to have two groups/organisations that kyoshi founded at conflict. if done right it could just alter where the kyoshi warriors find appa without changing much else.

Ooh, thank you for sharing that Suki theory! I do love the potential for building out more of the Kyoshi Warriors' storyline and explaining what they got up to between leaving the ferry station and discovering Appa. In the episode where they're crossing the Serpent's Pass, Suki mentions that she's heard the Fire Nation is working on something on the other side of the lake that they don't want anyone to know about, so clearly she's privy to some gossip at her ferry job. I always thought it would be neat if she and the Warriors decided to leave the ferry station to investigate, and that's how they ended up in the forest where they found Appa. But the idea of tying the Kyoshi Warrior's adventures into the Dai Li's conspiracies could be a cool way to pull Suki more deeply into the main story.

I wrote into a fic a while ago that Suki and the other Kyoshi Warriors got fed up with the bureaucracy of the ferry station and how trying to "maintain order" actually ends up being harmful to people (e.g., the lady in charge would rather force a pregnant woman to walk across a deadly pass than help her find her stolen property or otherwise get her onto the ferry), and it ends up being sort of eye-opening for them that the Fire Nation aren't the only ones doing harm in this war. (And in my story, that's ultimately why the Warriors end up leaving.) I think it could be interesting for the LA to delve more into this aspect of how the Earth Kingdom is dealing with the war, and it seems like the kind of thing that could fit with the darker tone they want the series to take. But however they end up doing it, I'd love to see them develop more of an explanation for why the Warriors are where they are when the find Appa!

Also I had a lot of fun thinking about a different take on the second episode of the LA. Got me through a dentist appointment lollll... Throwing my thoughts under the cut!

Okay, I’m totally stealing your idea about Sokka’s latent sexism coming out when he's provoked, cuz I just think 1) it makes sense as a defense mechanism for a guy who's feeling insecure in himself, and 2) it raises the stakes for him and Suki. XD

So! We keep “you’re trespassing on sacred ground!” and Suki being the one to tackle Sokka. I would’ve liked to have seen a little bit more of an action sequence during the ambush, so we (and Sokka) get a real taste of the Kyoshi Warriors’ skill.

The Kyoshi statue glows, they have the village hall meeting. Sokka’s eyeing Suki the whole time with grudging interest. Suki notices and looks at him narrow-eyed, tilting her chin up at him and then looking away abruptly. She’s not sure how she feels about him yet.

Afterwards they walk, and Sokka does his whole, “I’m my village’s protector, too,” thing, to which Suki responds, “I don’t see how that could be true if you’re here.” Sokka stumbles, says something like, “Yeah, I mean, good point, it’s just…this was more important.” And then Suki gets heated (what could be more important than protecting your people??) and gives the Kyoshi Warrior spiel.

That evening, Sokka rants to Katara and Aang about it. Katara’s like, “Sokka, it doesn’t matter, just let it go,” and Sokka’s all, “It does matter! Just because we’re here with Aang doesn’t mean our village isn’t safe! I worked hard to protect us all those years and— and anyway, helping Aang helps the village!” But inside he’s also thinking, “Have I let my people down? Or did they not need me that badly in the first place?”

The next day, Sokka storms over to the dojo, sees the Warriors practicing, and scoffs. “Fans? That’s your weapon?” and Suki’s like, “Excuse me?” Sokka goes, “At least I trained with real weapons—” “Real weapons, huh? Fine, let’s see it, then.” Sokka’s a little taken aback but he pulls out his club, they get into a stance, Sokka attacks, and Suki easily disarms him with her fans. “Well, Southern Water Tribe warriors are more known for hand-to-hand combat—” Suki immediately puts her fans away and gets into another stance. Sokka grits his teeth and attacks again, but Suki tackles him much like she did at the beginning of the episode. She’s hovering over him and he looks at her and his look of shock becomes a little sad. “I’m a bit out of practice,” he says, and Suki straightens, crosses her arms, and says snarkily, “Feel free to come back when you’re better prepared.”

Later, he comes back and Suki’s like, “Ready for a rematch?” but he gets on his knees and asks to be trained. Suki’s very surprised and just stares at him for a while. He apologizes. “Truthfully, there isn’t much need for warriors in my village…” And this strikes a chord with Suki because it’s not like there’s much need for warriors in her village, either (seeing as how they've kept themselves out of the war)… So she agrees to train him. But she says, “If we’re going to do this, we’re going to do it right,” and pulls out a spare uniform.

After Sokka gets dressed he looks at Suki and asks, “Face, too?” “Of course.” And he tells her—but sincerely; not bragging, this time—that he actually knows about putting on facepaint because of the SWT warrior paint. And this time when Suki asks him to demonstrate, she's also being sincere. He starts putting on the Kyoshi Warrior paint, and she helps him, and oops! romantic tension.

They train. Suki is strict but there’s still a lot of closeness and touching. We get to see Sokka use the fans. We get to see Sokka almost best Suki before she gets over her surprise thirst and overtakes him. But then she’s still all “oh shit he’s hot” so she gets up. Training’s over.

I loved the delivery of, “Thanks, um…you’re a great teacher.” “And you’re an excellent student.” So I’m keeping that. Suki acknowledges Sokka’s role as his village’s protector. Sokka, sadly, “Can’t protect them if I’m not there, can I?” And Suki looks at him earnestly. “I’m sure that you made sure they were safe before they left.” “Why are you sure of that?” “Because we’re warriors. And it’s what I would have done.” Enter “you’re the fiercest warrior I’ve ever seen” and “truth is I envy you” spiel. They share an intimate look, like maybe they’re about to kiss, and then the bell rings.

I also really, really loved the moment where Suki goes, “The bell,” and Sokka, all dreamy and lovestruck, says, “You hear it, too?” because OMG what an adorable sap. So I’m keeping that, too.

They go kick ass together. Sokka jumps in front of Suki to save her from a fireball with his fans. And as much as I like the idea of Suki getting to see a manifestation of Avatar Kyoshi right before her very eyes, I would actually take that part out because for a lot of thematic reasons that I won’t get into here, I prefer Aang and Katara realizing they should retreat to draw fire away from the island, rather than being told they have to leave. And because of that, Sokka and Suki’s goodbye has to be hurried.

While they're ducking for cover, Sokka apologizes again. "Suki, I'm sorry... For treating you like a girl. I mean...you are a girl, but for treating you like just a girl. I mean, a girl who isn't a warrior. I'm sorry for treating you like girls can't be warriors—"

Suki smiles and shakes her head, then kisses his cheek.

"Thank you, Sokka. For showing me that there's more out there."

He gapes at her.

"Now get out of here! We'll hold them off.”

He escapes with Aang and Katara, and while they're flying away on Appa, Sokka pulls off the headdress and runs his thumb over it thoughtfully. Aang says “Nice dress, Sokka,” and Sokka looks up and says, “It's a warrior’s uniform.”

(I, too, enjoy the sort of slow burn way their relationship develops in the animated show, so I definitely get how you feel about the lack of buildup, Anon. So if it were my rewrite, I would keep that aspect in. ;))

Hiiiiii I asked the question earlier about the Azriel centric book, mentioning my more casual reader friends and their lack of feeling or interest in E/riel, etc etc. Thank you for the response 🥰

In HOFAS, so many things happened and I’m still trying to let it all sink in so I don’t remember it exactly but when Nesta Bryce and Az were talking about Bryce’s (and the Asteri’s) light, they debated if it was starlight or light or maybe even DAYlight. My Elucien ears perked up! Were the bonus chapters and HOFAS not as Az heavy as it was relative to the other characters and SJM bringing him up more than Elain in interviews lately, I would be 💯 convinced that Elucien is next. But I still have my hesitations, I guess we’ll find out! I so badly want it to be Eluciens!!

I feel like whichever couple is featured in the sixth (last?) book, they will not get as much page time or attention where we can really dig deep because SJM will be tying up a lot of things. So if I had to choose, I’d rather get Elucien in ACOTAR5 and not the sixth book so they get proper page time and exploration and explanation. I adore Gwynriel! But idk man, we’ve been with Elain and Lucien for way longer and that mating bond was revealed to us way earlier. Ultimately, in my ideal world, SJM will write a full book for both ships and write a 7th book to wrap it all up with all of our MCs POVs (including Feyre and Rhys!) and that would make for a wonderful full circle book! But the chances of that happening are way way slimmer. It sounds like after ACOTAR5, she’s gonna turn her attention elsewhere so who knows when we’ll get ACOTAR6 or even the possibility of ACOTAR7!

I am pretty curious if Helion / Lucien will end up being tied to descendants of the first Starborn with the light they have and if so, will that play any important role to the plot as it did for Bryce's story as Theia's heir.

I think it's understandable to be going back and forth on the next book.

You're right, Az has gotten a lot of attention in the last two releases (SF and HOFAS) and if SJM is marketing the next book the way she did Nessian's than it would be valid to assume he's next.

But if she's marketing the next book the same way she did ACOMAF, where she was super quiet on Rhys's future role and what he would become to Feyre or the ending of CC2, where she kept it a secret from everyone than that could indicate "less is more" and Elucien is next.

There's precedence for both scenarios which is why I think the arguments on both sides are valid.

But with her saying that she's focusing on the next ACOTAR book then looking forward to a different project after that it makes me wonder if we are going to see some sort of major resolution to the Koschei / Beron / Spring / Vassa plots.

She wanted to move directly into CC3 after writing CC2 so if the next ACOTAR book sets up for the "final" spin-off, where the big bad is finally defeated, then wouldn't it make sense for her to continue on with the ACOTAR series rather than something else?

That is also something that makes me lean towards Elucien being next. Along the lines of what you said, if the next book deals with the Illyrians / Valkyrie / Time Travel (really big storylines) and that's then going to connect to Koschei / Beron / Spring / Vassa /the treaty, it seems like a lot for the final book.

But if she were to break those down into individual plots / series, it's less ground to cover.

If Elucien was next and they only dealt with Koschei / Beron / Spring / Vassa / and the treaty and their book did not need to bring in Time Travel / the Illyrians and the Valkyrie (because why would the Valkyrie / Illyrians be connected to Koschei in the next book then suddenly be meaningless in the final one?) that wraps up the arcs that were introduced in ACOWAR.

Then, SJM goes on to work on her new mystery project, then CC4 or hops back to the ACOTAR world. But at that point she calls it a new series that deals with the Valkyrie / Time Travel / the Illyrians and that will connect to the future crossover stories. And maybe that new series will not consist of only traditional romance standalone dual POVs. Maybe it will shift POVs between ACOTAR characters and even characters from other series but because it would then be labeled a "new series" it could standalone from Feyre's trilogy and the two books following her sisters.

There's a lot of different and valid ways to look at what SJM has planned and honestly, any single one could be right because we just don't know. She seems to be spinning a bunch of plates at the same time and we're all just trying to get inside her brain and think like her but she's managed to surprise us all time and again!

1. Writing inspo- I’m honestly delusional and most of my ideas come from my walking/gym sessions where I just allow my mind to float ?? Haha but I’ve been an AVID fanfic reader for years! I think I’m heavily influenced by a lot of seventeen/nct angst writers

2. For me, I always like setting the scene and adding a hook without giving too much away - makes the reader interested in continuing! I find it immersive to dedicate a few staring sentences to see the scene - give an idea of where the characters are. And Instead of going straight to the point with character dialogue, i begin with internal monologue, or a narrator insert - followed by some sort of emotion?? If that makes sense (ex: in “written in the stars” we start off with an scene setting of a busy and bustling palace, followed by y/n’s internal thoughts of wedding that is to take place soon, but it’s not her wedding? And she’s relieved about that??) this makes the reader want to continue to find out moreee

I'm a massage therapist as well, and I was curious if you think going to college or picking up something else is important just in case your body gives out overtime? I was never one for college (my ADHD could never!) but now idk lol

I hear you! I perosnally don’t have any other degrees, but did think about possibly studying nutrition, esthetician or any other body related fields to either combine it or fall back on.

depending on what interests you, But I’ve see people do just fine for decades in the massage world, so it’s doable long term. Some find tools to use (cups, bamboo, Japanese lifting) to elevate their hands/arms wear.

Where I live, you can get a job without a degree but sometimes the pay and access is better with one. Ex. Hospitality degree (gives access to reseptionist/front desk, hostess, manager etc with better pay)

Otherwise, I suggest maybe dipping your toes into something you find interesting like

- sports instructor (sports like tennis, ballet/dance, swimming, life guard, can grant access to privet lessons for young kids/teens etc)

- tutor (pick 2-3 subjects you’re good at, become part of an agency or do it freelance, teaching to both kids and adults depending on your skills/certifications)

- yoga (great for you’re own health and you can offer online/in person classes if certified. Working alone or with a company)

- translation, scriber/subtitle writer (often doesn’t require a degree, depending on level/skills. And if you go through agencies you can usually find tones of jobs)

Again, depending on you’re interests, you could do virtually anything between house sitting, baby sitting/daycare, coding/tech, artist, tour guide, travel massage therapist on cruises or work as an assistent at care facilities.

I personally do astrology, tarot and art on the side (I’m quite selective with it brings in some nice extra income for when I need it or to cushion my savings)

But I’d not suggest getting a costly degree unless it’s starting to feel necessary and you want it (and know you could get thru it even if it meant getting tutors etc)

okay so like. it’s time for some VERSES.

main verses i’ll be using for this blog are probably gonna be like... obviously there’s pre-volume 3 verses, but as for threads taking place after that - i’ll probably have a verse where roman survived the attack on Beacon, and a verse where he didn’t, but was revived somehow as a Grimm hybrid.

For the survival verse, I want to come up with some reason why he can’t reveal that he’s alive to Neo, in order to make it slightly more canon-compliant... like obviously it’ll still be an au verse, but. i just really like having them reunite after a long time apart/not knowing if the other was alive, okay! just gotta figure out what that reason is, since canonically in normal circumstances i think he’d want her to know.

I’m not sure how he became a Grimm hybrid in the other verse either quite yet, but. I’ll likely make more detailed posts on both of the above verses once i’ve decided more!

and as for more self-indulgent stuff...

i definitely want to give roman a time travel/time looping verse like i give all my favourite muses because!! i am forever predictable and time loops are my favourite trope in the world! but i’d also really like some kind of verse where he has to go undercover for some reason/take on a different identity?? again, not sure of the details yet, but seeing roman interact with characters who don’t know who he actually is sounds really fun to me. maybe he ends up possessing someone else’s body after he died. idk.

Which season is your part of the world currently experiencing? Uh. Cold? Hahaha we don’t have seasons in the usual sense. I believe we’re currently in the dry season which basically just means we’re in the clear from typhoons, but it does get quite cold here until February.

Do you ever read your texts and forget to respond to them? This is the case with Viber messages because I hate opening that app. But text is generally used for urgent matters so I respond almost always immediately. What was a show that you enjoyed watching a kid when you were home sick? Well, I never really felt homesick as a kid.

When’s the last time you traveled out of state/province? Where to? Christmas Day when we traveled to Tagaytay for a family reunion on my dad’s side.

Does anything on your body cause you chronic pain? Any chronic illnesses? Yeah, my shoulders and back are in discomfort every minute of the day.

What is your favorite Thanksgiving food? I don’t celebrate that.

Would you prefer cake or pie as a birthday treat? I’ve never gotten one for my birthday but I am more likely to eat pie. I like how it can be either sweet or savory, and pie crust is also great!!! Filipinos like to get cake for every occasion and even for no occasion so at this point I’m just so sick of them all unless it’s cheesecake.

Have you ever been in a band with your friends (not the class) I never had any musical talents, so no.

What is something annoying about the person you like/love? There is no such person.

At what age did you get your first period/have your first wet dream? I was 10 when I got my first period but don’t think I got my first wet dream til like high school.

What is something that makes you feel old? When my sister tells me about TikTok trends or personalities I have no clue about. Like I do go through TikTok and have a good topline idea of what prompts or dance challenges are trending (only because I have to know, for work), but I’m not a deep-diver. Couple of weeks ago she told me about Noodle the Pug’s death and I couldn’t react the way she probably wanted me to because I didn’t know who he is.

Do you remember where you were on 9/11/2001? I was 3 years old and had no idea that it was happening on the other side of the world. Do you think that snow days won’t exist now that we have virtual learning? Idk what snow days are. Whose wedding did you last attend? My uncle’s...back in 2008.

Do you have much of a sweet tooth? It is not a big sweet tooth at all. I’ll have like a brownie here and there but I quickly get sick of the sweet taste. Have you ever had to call 9-1-1 for someone else? Nope. What do you dip your French fries in? Mayonnaise.

What’s the last book you started reading but couldn’t finish? Bret Hart’s book. I only downloaded it online, and so the only reason why I couldn’t finish it is because the formatting was a bit fucked and it felt like I was missing some chunks from the book.

When’s the last time you experienced a panic attack? Over what? My mom was nagging while I was dealing with an errand that I was anxious about.

Have you ever used anything unusual to masturbate with before? If so, what? Naw.

What’s your favorite sports ball? Like. Just my favorite ball??? I don’t have one. I like playing table tennis though if you meant to ask about my favorite ball sport. Have you ever peed in the water at the beach? No. I feel like I’d only ever do that as a last resort if I get stranded at sea...but at the beach? When I can easily come back to shore and look for the nearest restroom? Pretty gross and I also honestly find it a little disrespectful.

How long do you think you could tread water for? Like 5-10 minutes. We had to tread as a final exam for swimming classes in high school. I remember how many of my classmates stayed at the deep end to challenge themselves, but I had to stay in the kinda-shallow side just in case my legs gave out from the treading.

Have you ever been the victim of a hate crime? No, at least not yet. Kind of sick how the color of my skin and the language I speak makes me a target 24/7 in certain countries.

What would you rather be doing, other than this survey? I’d love to be having breakfast rn at some mountaintop restaurant.

Have you ever scored a winning goal for a team you played for? No. I’ve won a few table tennis games that have made my team advance to the next tier of a tournament, but there aren’t any goals in that sport.

Would you be interested in creating a street mural? Only if there was a template to follow and if I was doing it with a group of people.

Have you ever participated in LARP'ing? That term is very familiar but I can’t remember what it means, and I can’t be bothered to check. So probably not.

How young do you feel is too young to get married? Anytime below 25, for me. Of course that’s just what I personally think; at the end of the day you still do you.

At what age would you let your child start picking out their own clothes? Whenever they want to start. < This is true. My mom was a bit of a control freak and always liked getting clothes for me even well into high school, which made me super super super struggle with figuring out my personality for a long time. What did I REALLY want to wear? What’s my style? What colors suit me? I didn’t know the answers to these for a while. If I had a kid, I’d do the complete opposite and let them explore whatever the fuck it is they’re into as soon as they want to start deciding for themselves.

What is one thing that you would never pick up from the supermarket? Fruits.

What’s the last food that you prepared for yourself? A sandwich with our leftover Christmas ham.

What’s your favorite type of cheese? Feta.

Did you used to bite others as a child? No but I knew a kid who did.

1. Do you have any big plans for November? That was last month, and no I didn’t have any grand plans. We had one family vacation which turned out great, but apart from that I was really busy with work.

2. What upcoming event are you most looking forward to? New Year’s Eve! My dad is actually here to ring 2023 with us and I’m really happy about that. All the money I’ve spent so far for our media noche spread also translates that happiness LOL

3. What was the last song you heard? On - BTS. I’m watching PTD LA on Disney + while I take this. < Literally the same song that’s playing on my end right now, except I’m mass-streaming it with others on Stationhead.

4. Quote something from last night: “You might have to sleep [on the couch] tonight.” - from my dad. My room is getting renovated at the moment and the paint fumes are still pretty glaring, so I have to call the sofa my home for the time being. 5. What time did you wake up today? Around 8:30.

6. What does your last incoming text say? It was just a text notification of my last e-wallet transfer.

7. Is there a vase in the room you’re in? There isn’t.

8. Any plans for today/this evening? Ideally I crash for 12 hours because I’m exhausted from all the painting and lifting I did for my room rehaul...but I do have a deck to work on tonight and have no other choice but to power through with that stupid thing.

9. Have you recently been insulted? Yes, I’m pretty sure my mom has recently as we’ve gotten into a few spats this past couple of days. I just can’t remember any of them as I block her out as soon as her temper flares up.

10. What is the radio in your car tuned to at this exact moment? It is most likely set to some easy listening station since that’s my mom’s preference and she drives my car on weekdays.

11. Compared to someone else of your age and gender; do you feel that you have a lot to offer someone? I mean I’m by no means an overachiever, but I also think I’ve done and achieved a fair share of things.

12. How many days a week do you work? It’s the usual Monday to Friday, 9-6 job.

14. Is there ONE person you feel more connected to than others? Yes. 15. Are you more like your mother or your father? Probably my mom as I have spent more time with her throughout my life. Not necessarily because we’re closer, but because my dad has been periodically working overseas for as long as I can remember. 16. Where did your eye color come from? Both my parents. But also because I am Southeast Asian lol.

17. Describe the pants you are wearing: They are gray shorts that have now-dry paint splatters all over. 18. Have you ever been in a recording studio? Yes, once. I was interning at this hotel/resort when they asked me to come with for the voice recording of their upcoming radio ad. The studio was as professional as it gets and looks just like those studios you see on Hollywood documentaries and stuff.

19. The myspace picture you’ve had up the longest? I never regularly used Myspace.

20. Are any of your myspace pictures alcohol related? ^ Same.

21. What is your worst relationship quality? In my previous relationship I was too dependent to and clingy with my partner. I didn’t know how to be on my own, which was why the effects of my breakup were as destructive as they had been. I’ve learned from those mistakes, but since I haven’t been in a relationship since then I wouldn’t know what my ‘red flags’ today, badly put, would be.

22. What was your most recent serious injury? Sprained ankle.

23. What were you most recently happy about? Getting my loft bed!

24. Are you happy with the way the Yankees are playing? Is this baseball? I don’t watch it.

25. Are you a fan of cake? Just cheesecake.

26. What shirt have you not worn in a while that you would like to? Idk, if I wanna wear something I just look for it so I never really get this feeling.

28. When was the last time you were hit on? Years ago. I’m not interested in the dating/flirting scene at all, so tbh I try to look intimidating/unapproachable when I’m somewhere I’m likely to be approached.
