Prompt: You start a new internship and your boss is kinda hot.

If I were to be even more nervous than I am right now, I would probably be shaking like a leaf. My hands are sweaty as I approach clumsily the entrance of the building. The first time I came here, was two weeks ago, when I had the interview for the internship position. If it wasn't for my nearly neat résumé, I might have not gotten the job. I tend to ramble a lot when I'm nervous, and it clearly was showing on the day of the interview. 

This is the moment I've been waiting for throughout my whole career; when I get to put into practice my knowledge about the law. Even if it means starting as an intern pouring coffee for my boss. Whom I have yet to meet. In the interview, they told me that I’d be working under one of the senior lawyers to learn and observe. Then, if I do a good job, they might consider promoting me to a junior lawyer. I am really excited about the things to come. Perhaps too much because as I climb up the steps of the building in a hurry, I almost fall over. A steady hand in my arm stabilizes me enough to gather my bearings.

“Oh, thank you, I'm sorry.” I don't know what I'm apologizing for.

“No problem,” I finish dusting off my pants and look up to the voice’s owner that saved me from embarrassment.

My face lights up a deep shade of pink at the gorgeous man who stares at me. He's quite tall, possibly the tallest of the people around us. His hair is long, shaggy, and brown. I shrug, “I haven’t met them, but I heard they’re fairly young. Well, at least my supervisor is, I had a meeting with the big boss the other day, Bobby. He seems like a good man.”

He chuckles. “Oh, yeah, Bobby’s great… as for your supervisor, don’t worry, I’m sure he won’t be too hard on you.”

“Well, I certainly hope so. If you haven't noticed, I tend to make a fool of myself easily.” I want to add something else, there's this little voice in the back of my head that is pressuring me to ask Sam Winchester out, even though I just met him. Maybe because he's handsome, or because he seems to be kind-hearted, but I cannot shut up my thoughts. Normally, I wouldn't flirt with him after just one meeting. This isn’t a normal day, and nerves affect me almost the same way alcohol does; they give me a false sense of security and make me say things that I probably shouldn't. “So, since we’re both new, why don't we meet up for lunch?”

His eyes widen comically, but before he can answer, a voice coming from afar calls his name: “Ah, Sam!” It’s a young man wearing a pristine black suit, and he’s walking toward us. I've seen him before, I think his name is Brady. He was the one who led me into Bobby's office for the interview. “Oh, I see you met the new intern. Hi there, how are you liking it so far?”

“Hello,” I greet, “I haven't gone inside yet.” I discreetly check my watch to see that it's still early. “Sam was kind enough to help me when I almost tripped.”

“I see,” Brady nods, “Sam, huh?” The question isn’t directed towards me because he's looking at the tall man. Sam gives him a warning glance. I cannot comprehend what is happening until Brady speaks again. “Well, it's good you’ve already met your supervisor. He was promoted just yesterday. Honestly, it saves me the trouble of making introductions.”

His words render me speechless. What the fuck did he just say? Did I just flirt with my supervisor? Which is basically having the hots for my boss. Sam looks at me with an apologetic glance. I cannot meet his eyes. Brady mustn’t notice the silence his comment created because he continues: “I'm gonna head inside, see you later!”

His happy pace doesn’t falter one bit. I'm considering that maybe he was aware of what his statement would do.

“I apologize for my previous behavior… I didn't mean-”

Sam doesn't let me continue, “you didn't?” He ponders for a moment. “That's a shame, we would've had a nice time.” I can tell by the way his eyes shine and his mouth forms a gentle smile that he is not teasing me, but actually means what he's saying. “Why don’t you come by my office at 2 p.m. and then we can go grab some lunch?”

He doesn't leave room for opinions because he turns around and walks inside the building without another word. What just happened? Do I have a date with my boss? I guess this first day isn't as crappy as I thought it would be.

You kno, I always (since I started playing LoZ 20+ years ago+additional ideas that came later) assumed Ganondorf is green bc of Koume and Kotake's influence. They're two powerful witches, and the occasional depiction of witches being green has probably also spread to Japan, so from that to show Ganon's ties to them, they were all three turned shades of green bc magic. It also sounded in-game like those two were a big reason for why Ganondorf went power mad and pushed war, even tho the other Gerudo didn't want him to go that extreme. Doesn't explain totk Ganondorf since there's literally no reason or backstory for him, but maybe it's like "tradition" by now. I also know there's a Chinese saying "putting on a green hat" which means the same as being green with envy, so I could imagine smth similar exists in Japanese, smth that could have worked with Oot's Ganondorf's envy of Hyrule's life giving lands. Since TP and WW, and HW Ganondorf are all the same guy, that kinda still works? I know it's really being viewed critical why he looks like he looks w the green skin, so thought I'd share a thing I basically came up with as a kid. (Except the green hat, only found out later, but the green with envy thought I did have back then.) Green hat works more for Link in the literal sense, so maybe Ganondorf has a figurative green hat. 😩

Hey! Yeah, I assumed the same for a very long time, and I'm pretty sure it's still the intent today.

I still think it's worth mentioning the trend has been really exacerbated with time; even back in OoT, his skin tone is not... that off the charts. Like yes, it does lean green, but after doing some color picking, it still stands reasonnably in the brown. It is a little sickly/olive, and there is a big gap between the concept arts and the model in-game already then (and in Smash, he's pretty much in the browns in his default model too), but it *could* be somebody's skin color. It's the same thing for WW Ganon btw, where his skin is definitively brown in the concept art and got much greener once modeled in the game. TP Ganon is the one where the difference between concept art and in-game skin is the least noticeable, but he also has the darkest shade by far so it doesn't read super green, even if it is quite there if you color pick. TotK Ganon is the color of a spinach smoothie in comparaison; even in the concept art itself, which might be even greener than the model in-game (a first!)

To be generous and fair to the whole thing, I think it used to be a case of what looked the most dramatic in-game, and a green hue does look less natural, colder, deader and scarier than a red-base one, especially in extremely intense lighting situations where Ganon often finds himself in, where it is easy to use that base color for contrast, especially with the red of his hair or the gold of his eyes and his little forehead jewel. This coupled with the influence of Twinrova and the association with envy probably pushed this direction even further every time.

But again, it is also hard to extract these choices from the history, in fantasy and sci-fi, of how to still dehumanize archetypes of PoCs without actually having them "being PoCs", or using excuses of inherent evilness to make their treatment by the narrative more acceptable. I am not mad at this choice inherently, but I am critical of it in the light of every other choice made in the year of our lady Hylia 2023 and the fact that I *so often* see this being used as protection against criticisms of both orientalism and a lack of care for what it implies about the worldbuilding of Hyrule. In OoT there was the connection to dark magic and the Twinrova; but in TotK, the Twinrova are easter eggs at best, not an active part of what shaped our antagonist and made him who he is. His evilness is made profusely clear the second he grabs the stone and becomes basically Satan with very cool hair, in a design that does lean super red and black anyway; one would think he'd rather try to hide his true nature before this?

(there is also history of PoC being turned green to avoid direct critique in fantasy/sci-fi worldbuilding, I think Star Trek is one of the big culprits but don't quote me on that)

Again, it's the package that is weird; and even more than the package, gradually changing PoC features over time in a way that, while not maybe being the only reason for the change, does allow the heroes to clearly identify the source of evil as Unlike Them while also distancing themselves from the more direct racist implications instead of... kind of allowing this to complicate the conflict, and accept that the conflict *is already complicated* no matter what is retconned or emphasized or changed. But the priority is simplicity and cleanness, and so Ganon and the gerudos do bear the blunt of these choices more often than not; the green skin being one of the more visible examples.

I hate it when people draw characters with WAY darker skin than they really have... like, there's a particular fandom that I'm in, where the main character is played by a mixed race actor with pretty light skin, and people draw him the color of chocolate all the time. Nothing wrong with that skin color, of course, but isn't it kinda racist to look at a guy and say "ok, he's not white so he's gotta be BROWN" to the point where it doesn't even look like the actor? Is the real life person just not brown enough? I dunno, it just weirds me out.

I wonder if it comes from a place of fan artists not feeling confident about their abilities to draw distinctive facial features. So they worry that the accurate skin tone will cause people to accuse them of "whitewashing". 🙁 I get that, if so. It's just a shame that fan communities can be so awful.

I read a lot of Yuri on Ice fanfic and it always drives me up the wall when writers describe Yuuri as having darker skin than Victor. Look at these two

They have the exact same skin color. You'd have to go into photoshop and search around with the color picker to find a different shade on their faces.

It's like they can't admit that Japanese people can have pale skin because in their woke brains everyone is separated into White People--Evil, Bad, Pale Devils, and People of Color--Oppressed, Dark Skinned, Perfect. And when they're confronted with a "POC" that has light skin, they can't handle it.

(these are the same people who though Chris Pratt tanning for Jurassic World was him trying to "look black", so we're not dealing with a lot of brainpower here)

I do think a lot of what you're talking about comes from being scared of being accused of whitewashing, because fandoms are super toxic about any character appearing even a shade lighter than they're supposed to be. But I also think at least some of it comes from people not being able to deal with the fact that sometimes non-white people have pale skin. Especially when the characters are animated. They see darkening the skin as "correcting" or "fixing" the character. It's super racist, and really exposes how much dark skin is almost fetish-like for them.

And honestly, when it's a real mixed race actor? It's doubly shitty. Mixed race people deal with a lot of stigma from within their communities and without. "Too black for the whites, too white for the blacks" is a common sentiment among Americans with mixed racial heritage. For fandoms, who love to act like they're super "anti-racist" and "allies", darkening a real person's skin in their fan art shows that they don't even know what racism is. It's just the sad state of modern fandom.

Thankfully, most medium to large fandoms seem to have groups that aren't like this, and they're usually not that hard to find.

Sophie: September 6th. Age in school gets weird when you're born just before the deadline for schools (between September and December of the current year) Even from a young age she was great at school, and so her birthday should be around the time school starts. Also, it makes some pretty good angst when she feels inadequate in Elven schooling (reassurance from Fitz pre-Sophitz/ Platonic! Sophitz)

Fitz: January 17th!! I feel like Fitz is a winter guy, and he gives me January vibes more than December or February. And the 17th is because of the Taylor Swift song I'd Lie because that song is perfect for Sophitz.

Biana: April 14th. Biana has soft springy vibes, but April also can have torrential downpour or snowy blizzards. Its a beautiful month, but it can be dangerous as well. I originally had her pegged for Valentines Day birthday, but she doesn't have February vibes in my opinion. It kinda sucks that it's not for February 14th though because I had a very specific headcannon that Sophie mentions Biana's birthday is Valentine's day and explains what it is and then Biana gloats about it.

Dex: October 30th. He's a fall boy, he has the complexion and hair and he would love going trick or treating with the gang and the triplets. Born close to Spooky Season, just on the edge of when it starts getting chilly.

Keefe: December 26th. He's cannonically 11 months younger than Fitz, so December works. Plus, Keefe gives me those December-y vibes. It just feels right.

Honestly, I didn't have all the dates planned out except that Fitz I knew I wanted to be January 17th for reasons mentioned above and that each of the characters gave me a vibe that fit with a certain month and whether they were born early, late, or in the middle of the month their vibes fit. O didn't want to the dates to be super similar so I just picked random dates and adjusted them so they weren't all born on the 11th of their months because that's weird and is super unlikely.

WoF fanfic - Whiteout

I lift my head. Whirls of ugly cobalt come from the direction mother and father are. They finally quieted down. They know my hearing is sensitive. But oh well. Let the flow go on as the clouds brush by.

I stand up. Father was at the table and mother was starting on dinner. The tension and silence was horrible. I hear brother come in. I immediately rush to him. I need his rays of yellow to effect me in some way.

He wraps his wing around me. "How was your day?" he asks softly, his usual waves of yellow and light blue echoing off of him.

"My ears ring. And not like a song. It just plays on and on."

Brother gives me the usual face of confusion. I don't understand why everyone makes that face when I speak. It's a perfectly understandable response.

"Were they fighting again?" he asked, tightening his wing around me.

I simply nod, keeping my head low.

Waves of bloody red immediately radiate from him as thoughts of blue, blue, blue father come into play.

"No, no, no," I bed. "Don't start conflict. The silence has come. The time is done. There is dinner mother is making. Let's go get some!"

Brother exhales with his head lowered, but then he lifts it and smiles at me. There's only a couple things I know keep him going. A beautiful dragoness whom I've never seen nor met. She must be someday when the sun and moon rise and fall many times. And me and mother.

I lead him to the kitchen, where mother is setting out plates of mountain goat.

Father growls and says, "It seems we're having goat. Again." I see an ugly aura of green coming from him and I flinch.

"But it's so tasty, see father?" I try to grab his attention, which he only gives me half of. 

I look at mother. "Thank you! I will eat this charitably!"

Mother gives me a smile, beautiful shades of blue radiate from her, calming me. But then, the blue turns to burnt orange as her ears flatten against her head and she turns to father. "Give your daughter some time of day," she hisses at him.

Brother sits next to me. "No, She doesn't deserve his attention," he says coldly.

Brother and father do one of their usual staring contests.

"How dare you think that!?" brother hisses. I jump. I usually block out my family's minds as I find them as untraceable as a song from an albatross that is trapped in another dragon's claws.

"Stay out of my mind!" father exclaims.

"What did he think?" mother asks brother.

"He imagined using a spell on Whiteout to make her a killing machine for the IceWings and he's use her to kill me!!"

Mother's eyes go blank with coldness. So cold I shiver. Is there a wind? Can the clouds just stop moving? Can they stop moving so fast!?

Shouting breaks out among my family, I caught in the center of it. I shrink down into my chair, covering my ears as I try not to cry. But whirls of burnt orange, green, and brown all cloud my mind that I can't help but break into tears.

But no one notices.

Except brother.

He helps me up and leads me into my bedroom. The painting I finished earlier was still drying on the canvas.

Brother's mind is a deep, troubling purple that barely calms me.

He sets me on my bed and gives me my toy of the creature he calls 'scavenger.' I call it 'human.' The humans in my classroom said what they were. Can he not hear it? was what I wondered for a while.

I curl into a ball and my brother puts blankets over me. He's trying to have me rest. But I can't when the yelling is still.. so... loud...

Brother senses this.

"Ohhh, we're going high above the skyyyy~" he sings softly. A lullaby... One he created a couple of years ago. "And we'll fly real super high. And we won't come down. Even if the rain starts to pound."

I join in the quiet singing. And soon, we join together in our own quiet melancholy. "And even if the birds get mad. We'll keep flying so we won't be sad. Then the rest of the day won't be so baaaaad. Let's keep flying. Fly, fly, fly..."

And I slowly drift to sleep, the last color I see is brother's pale red...

Mildly Controversial Opinion Time:

Rex is a natural blonde.

The first and biggest objection this opinion is gonna get: "But his eyebrows don't match!"

My answer: People, there are many different shades of hair that are considered "blonde", from very pale (natural platinum blondes are a thing. Rare maybe, but they exist.) to borderline light brown ("dirty blonde"). And there are plenty of naturally blonde people with eyebrows a different shade from the rest of their hair. And it's not just blondes with non-matching eyebrows. I'm a natural redhead. My eyebrows are pretty much brown.

And now that I've addressed the main argument for why Rex isn't a natural blonde, lemme tell you why I think he is: Basically, it comes down to his hairstyle (super short buzz cut) and his occupation. Allow me to elaborate.

Let's start with the hairstyle. Maintaining a short hairstyle requires a little bit of effort, but it doesn't take much time. Like literally 5-10 minutes max. If you've got somebody doing it who's had a lot of practice and has good clippers, it could take even less time.

Maintaining a dye job on the other hand, especially one where a person's natural color is dramatically different than the dyed color (like dark brown to light blonde), is both a lot of work and a large investment of time. Like minimum 30-45 minutes every single time. And the shorter your hair is, the more often you need to re-dye it to maintain the color without your roots showing. Someone with hair as short as Rex's would probably have to dye it every week to maintain the color properly. That's at least 30 minutes every single week.

Which brings us to the occupation. The man is a soldier. He's busy fighting a war and trying to not die. Not to mention that he's just overall a practical guy. He's not going to take an hour a week to dye his buzz cut blonde. Rex does not have time for this!

I'm going to do both Of a Feather and the Soulmate story I'm working on:

Of a Feather:

Andromeda - Describe your main characters

Adrestes - skintone cyan, hair a deep midnight blue. At a glance, he'd look to be mid to late thirties, with a few faint lines around his eyes and mouth. He keeps his hair cropped short, a bit shorter than Pelagos' hair ingame. He is muscular without being super buff, and his feathers are the traditional kyrian white with bluish tips. His wings are designed for power soaring, like an eagle's. His eyes are typical kyrian, glowing white. He has a faint smattering of freckles across his cheeks and arms, though few see them because of his armor. His posture is impeccable and so he generally looks even taller than he is because his back is so damned straight and his shoulders squared, even when relaxed.

Liila (alive) - very pale, like she's never seen sunlight pale, hair a very dark crimson that reaches down past her butt when she lets it hang loose, though she usually keeps it up in a messy bun or a long braid over her shoulder. She is a bit short for an elf, and waifish. She's doesn't look as bad as she used to, but she's still a bit underweight, and always looks a little...delicate. Her eyes glow a light blue. She's the elven equivalent of about 28-30, though she looks a little older because of the circles under her eyes and the worn look that she can never quite shake. She has a bit of a slump to her shoulders, and her ears are long and pointed, as most elven ears are.

Liila (dead) - her skin is a pale, light blue with some darker freckles across her skin, and her hair is teal, growing lighter near the tips like most kyrian hair to look like the bottom glows white. She's willowy, with, with the barest hint of muscles. Her wings, when she finally gets them are like a pelican's (thermal glider). She has a few almost grayish-blue spots on her wings that get darker the closer to the tips they get. She looks like she's in her late twenties, early thirties, still bearing that worn/tired look, though it is marginally better than when she was alive. Her eyes glow white with the faintest tinge of green to them, if one really looks.

Cassiopeia - What's your favorite scene so far?

Probably the scene where Liila and Adrestes tell each other they don't dislike each other. The awkward tension that bleeds out little by little, Adrestes being a tiny bit of a show off when he soars off, Liila realizing she likes him.

The other scene I really like is when Pelagos and Kleia go to Nikolon to get help with viewing Liila's memory. I liked writing the part about the scene being a hodgepodge of past and present, of Pelagos examining what they can see while Nikolon struggles to tell if they're playing with him or if this is seriously all they wanted to see.

Soulmate Story

Andromeda - describe your main characters

Drayis - he is very pale, with long, dark hair that he keeps in a ponytail at the nape of his neck. His eyes are brown, and he rarely smiles. He looks a little young for his age, mid thirties. He squints a lot, and has impeccable posture. He usually comes off as a little cold to outright frosty.

Emmi - Emmi is slender and tanned, with freckles everywhere. Her hair is a deep, rich brown with reddish highlights and her eyes are very dark, almost black. She has an athletic body, and looks her age, 28. She's already starting to get laugh lines around her mouth, and her smile is radiant and infectious. There's usually a bit of a glimmer of mischief in her eyes.

Cassiopeia - What's your favorite scene so far?

I haven't really written anything for it yet--still planning it out--but a scene I have in my head is where Emmi sort of gets possessed by a Shade. She walks into the shadows, with them pooling and curling around her while she reaches out toward the Shade hidden within, almost floating, barefoot.

i realized i havent done super detailed introductions for celestes story characters

(just so its clear why im adding eye colors along with their magic, theres a Minor correlation between eye color, symbol, and magic color but its mostly arbitrary, i just like colors)

Claire (AKA Celeste (last name undecided)), the Star Witch: the MC. she inherited all of my insecurities and mental health issues im so sorry girlie. tragically incapable of performing magic as easily as the rest of the cast. this is mostly because magic is highly personalized and shes afraid of putting such an intimate part of her BeingTM out into the world. Eye color: brown/amber. Magic: A golden orange. It's slow and foggy but hard to stop. It is extremely sticky like boiling sugar, but an arctic kind of cold. id say it suits a symbol associated with the dead cold of space quite nicely :^)

Heather Dean Forester, the Hydrangea Witch: Claire's best friend and basically an adoptive brother at this point, especially after he moved in with her and her mother. Has a weird amount of knowledge about random things. he and claire werent delinquents but they kinda only had each other in high school and were both almost (or entirely) failing together, so needless to say theyre CloseTM. maybe there will be a section where he grows apart from claire, depends on how angsty im feeling i guess :^) Eye color: green. Magic: really translucent sage green, pretty much invisible in the dark. It's round and almost rubbery the way it seems almost elastic and doesn't have any striations or loose strands, other than a few swirly stripes of off-white. It's nowhere near as cold as Claire's, but still would feel like you're in the shade in late autumn. wear a light jacket :^)

Pippa Jane Owen, the Dandelion Witch: i cant explain why but shes one of my favorite characters, just because her existence basically shatters what little confidence Claire had in being a witch at the start. She's the only other character who knew claire and heather before going to the Other World. very sweet, but also kind of a perfectionist (but of course to everyone else it just looks like shes totally effortless unless something unexpected happens). Eye color: Dark brown. Magic: Mostly a bright, light green, with some yellow and yellow-green streaks. It's wispy like how wind is depicted in a lot of cartoons and video games. Feels like a warm breeze. probably would smell like lemongrass if it was scented :^)

Halia Ka Hiwa Kapule, the Corpse Lily Witch: Looks very serious. Often is very serious. except her humor is extremely deadpan so almost no one can tell when shes joking, which she keeps doing because making people uncomfortable with it is amusing to her. The school had a lot of difficulty getting a corpse lily from Earth into the greenhouse because of how rare it is, so she works extremely hard to practice as much as possible so it doesnt go "to waste" (her words, not the words of the school, theyre pretty chill about it). Eye color: debatable. people around her are torn on whether its brown or hazel, so she just says brown because people are exhausting. Magic: deep red, fading into a slightly peachier tone out from the center. It's wavy? many people can form a straight line or a circle with their magic, but Halia's always has slight curves in it. surprisingly chilly, but a still overcast day kind of chilly, not icy or windy. It makes people want to stay indoors with a cup of tea (idk i dont drink tea) :^)

Nova Éliane Jones, the Sun Witch: "She's the center of a cycle of prophecies spanning millennia, not even just one, she's naturally gifted at magic, she's constantly breaking barriers that leave magic elitists fuming, and she's just... her fashion sense is perfect, she's perfect, by all accounts she's literally the main character." -Claire, the actual main character, also part of the same prophecy as Nova. She, Halia, and Pippa are practically the Heathers, except people actually like them. Eye color: light blue (ocular albinism) Magic: pastel blue, almost periwinkle. It practically billows with how big and room-filling it is. It's hot enough that it just might cause burns with long enough exposure, but honestly it comes from the literal sun, it's to be expected. i think people are just jealous that she's the Sun Witch and not them :^)

That color dearth's even more pronounced with Cinder's fellow dickweeds. Hazel? Dull brown-green lump, though I guess it kinda fits his name. Watts? Steampunk bland. Tyrian? Eyes kinda pop when he's envenomatin' but that's it. Salem's got enough style for their lack thereof to contrast rather underwhelmingly.

Hazel's color scheme is so fucking dull holy shit... At least his first look had something decent going on with the green/black in addition to his skin/hair, but he's yet another character stuck with a shitty lifeless design in Atlas. His hair/skin/eyes all being some shade of brown works fine if his clothes have some life to them, but as it is, his Atlas outfit just slaps this dull olive green over his model and absolutely nothing about it pops, especially when all he's surrounded by is the red/pink/brown palette used for the scenery in the Monstra. It's just... ugh, so boring. His earth tones can work with different backgrounds and artstyles, but RWBY's soft, textureless models do him no favors whatsoever.

Watts at least has some contrast with the gray/yellow of his outfit and the dark tones on his dress shirt. I don't think his design is all that inspired, but at least he usually doesn't blend into the scenery. The colors don't feel ultra flattering with his skin tone, but nobody's skin looks good in RWBY, so whatever.

I actually don't have any major complaints about Tyrian's design, although I wish he'd keep his coat more often. The colors aren't super bright or anything, but they provide adequate contrast and are overall used well, I think, and it makes his crazy batshit eyes stand out more. Tyrian also has more interesting and dynamic movement than the other two, which goes outside the realm of color scheme and other static design elements, but does help his case in terms of overall appeal.

It will forever annoy me that so many of the Atlas designs feel so bland and ugly and the lighting and environment feel so washed-out and dull.

How does your Trystan and Nora look like?

aah thank you so much for this anon! I have been wanting an excuse to workshop their appearances forever lately

let's talk about nora:

she is far from the canon version - i mean, there is some resemblance, but far from what i could envision it from the closets and hairstyles and appearances canon provides. we'll start with her physique - she's got a light brown complexion, black eyes and black hair - which is sort of choppy but at the same time, somewhat of a bob with an appreciable fringe - think audrey hepburn's haircut served with a side of winona ryder-as-lelaina pierce's in reality bites (1994). nora also has a very athletic physique - heavy on the biceps and triceps with some incredible muscle mass but is quite short (she's like 5"4) - likely the shortest in her family of goliaths. she wears a lot of loose clothing - nothing that's "flattering" since she gets really hot and sweaty and hates when clothes stick to her. so she's got her dad's old corduroy jacket a size too big for her or a black blazer, a green dress shirt or some staple flannel in her closet. she usually goes for some loose-fitting jeans or some proper trousers (the kind you get paired up with a suit). for shoes, she either wears running shoes or plain old white sneakers. as for any prominent scars or marks, she's got a really faint, thin, but very obvious one running across her right eye. think the faded version of kylo ren's scar in the last jedi. it's kind of a running joke as to how she got the scar - sometimes she tells people she engaged in a knife fight with someone, sometimes she tells people it 'happened on the job' when really, it was just a kitchen accident. nora also wears a small chain around her neck with this opening-locket-esque mechanism with nothing inside. it's something that belonged to her mother and has become a good luck charm. she also wears an old cerulean g-shock watch on her left hand.

and now trystan:

my version of trystan doesn't really stray that far from canon as nora does, apart from some minor changes. with the physique - he's got a tanned brown complexion, brown hair with blonde roots (from the time he coloured his hair some funky shades, emika wasn't too proud of his hack job) and a sideburn cut. he does have a prominent fringe that falls right on top of his right eye, sometimes partially obscuring it. trystan is tall, has a fairly bulky physique, dark brown eyes. he has this weird disproportionate body type where his legs are just super long compared to the height from head-to-torso, which explains why most of his suits are tailor-made.

trystan's wardrobe in my canon isn't far too different from the actual canon in the books. he likes wearing suits - especially the comfort a good blazer can bring (nora can agree). he sometimes wears just the shirt over a leather jacket of some kind, lots and lots of striped black shirts, belts with chains, cargo pants for a brief period of time just for its utility, even swapping his blazer for a waistcoat from time to time. he usually settles for dress shoes, but also frequents boots, streetwear and trainers. though he doesn't vary a lot when it comes to day-to-day clothing, he does live it up with jewelry.

from cool assortments of rings - ones with gemstones, ones without them and it's just this intricate design, a couple of faux-silver bracelets should he get into a mood and a single gold clip-on earring in his left ear (he just has one piercing). the bracelets usually have some lettering or engraving on it. while he isn't superstitious, he is a little stitious.

face: Describe your OC's face. What's their smile like? Are their orbs cerulean? What would someone notice first when looking at them?

Lore is pretty. Even with all the sith corruption and the hauntingly red eyes, she's obviously quite young and pretty. She's got soft features, a round face, long eyelashes, thin eyebrows, obvious scarring on the left side of her neck that reaches up to her face.

Her smile is sweet. She's got the polite professional smile she shows during work, but if she smiles outside of that context it's always genuine and always reaches her eyes as well. Her orbs are not cerulean but rather scarlet, and like the princess she is they do change in shade. Regardless of everything, she looks approachable. If you were lost you'd ask her the way.

favorite: Does your OC have a favorite article of clothing or accessory? What is it? What's the meaning behind it? Do they wear it all the time or do they wear it sparingly to keep it safe?

Other than the obvious answer of weapon, Lorentz does love all her accesoires. She has head jewelry with a gem, necklace with moons/stars, and some armbands and bracelets. They're definitely part of the trinkets she collects, and they help conduct her force lightning to make it focused. Andronikos always keeps an eye out for shiny things to gift her and probably even already has a ring he eventually wants to propose with because he's a sap.

Lore doesn't believe in not using something to keep it safe, so she wears it all. She is the person to forever treasure small gifts.

Taylor

armor: What kind of armor does your OC wear? Is it well kept? Bonus: where does it come from? Is there a story behind it?

Taylor does love her heavy armor. When she finally gets her warden armor, she actually falls in love with it. She does keep good care of it, even if she doesn't particular care if it's super shiny etc. There isn't really a story of how she got it. However, every armor she wears goes combined with her moms old boots. She basically inherented those. They are old but indestructable and while it does look silly to wear pretty light brown leather boots under heavy armor, Taylor has kept it up.

roots: Is your OC's look inspired by any specific style of clothing or fashion trend? What are the roots and/or inspiration for their look?

I wish I knew enough about fashion to actually be inspired by a certain trend. What can I offer instead.. Taylor mostly wears androgenous clothing? That mostly started with not wanting attention, but then she was most comfortable in those types of clothes, loose fitting and earthy tones, so she didn't see a reason to change it.

Evanna

glance: At first glance, what stands out most about your OC's appearance? What's their distinguishing feature?

Other than her being pretty tall, Evanna's hair is her distinguishing feature. Flowy, long, wavy, brown and always in danger of catching on fire. She learns to put it in a ponytail when she's actually throwing fire balls around soon enough.

Other than that she's got pretty strong features over all. Big dark eyebrows, beautiful nose, round cheeks.

wardrobe: How big is your character's wardrobe? Do they wear things threadbare, or can they afford new clothes often? Are they any good at mending and repairing their own clothing?

For being a fashionista, Evanna's wardrobe isn't that elaborate. She found/made a few things she liked and stuck to them. She would wear things threadbare, but then (magically?) mend them and re-use fabric for other projects. She also fixes clothes for friends.

his parents were both knights, and they were killed in separate, unrelated battles* leaving him behind to be trained to follow in their footsteps (because we're back at it with the NARRATIVE CYCLES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) and so he was training to be a knight with rowan, and they were rivals who would compete with each other at every opportunity and they couldn't STAND each other but :] they eventually grow super close and were inseparable until rowan suddenly is chosen as the new king and everything fucking changes.

*their kingdom is constantly at war with other kingdoms/factions/forces of nature because. that's what a forest is: a massive ecosystem of living things all fighting to survive. the knights hold the line between the kingdom and the chaos of nature trying to survive and its soooooooooooooooo (you thought i wouldn't put knight shit in a story? you thought WRONG !!!!)

willow feels !! a little betrayed !!! his best friend is actually gonna be the fucking king !!! and he didn't know about it !!!! and he doesn't even get the chance to talk to rowan about it to find out that he didn't know about it either !! because rowan went to the mother tree to learn how to use his powers and willow had his own training to complete !! they were joined at the hip fighting side by side for years and now they can't even fucking see each other !! it's the equivalent of buck and eddie getting separated !!!!! they were best friends !!!!!!

about a year later, they run into each other at a celebration of some kind, and they reconnect and it's like they were never apart. and willow decides right then and there that he never wants to be separated from his other half like that again ??? so he fucking ?? turns his entire trajectory around and becomes part of rowan's inner guard instead ??

and I do actually know how willow's story ends: he dies to protect the forest and rowan, just like every knight before him. something something he didn't become a knight because he wanted to avoid his parents' fate but it was inescapable either way

on a MUCH happier note, the KNIGHTS !!!!! i want them to have a cool name but i haven't come up w one yet. but they have magic leaf armor that's like. mostly leather w a little bit of chain mail so that they have peak movement and agility. and their armor changes colors w the seasons to blend in with their surroundings because a BIG part of this kingdom's natural defense is camouflage. so in the summer, their armor is a bunch of different shades of green/teal, in the fall it's gold/red/orange/yellow, in the winter it's white/silver/brown, and in the spring it's pink/light green/light blue to blend in with the blossoms and buds :]

I think it would be something a bit less like Nintendo's take and a bit more like this-

Wind is the darkest skinned of them. I'm thinking Pacific Islander level of brown, well loved by the sun and much harder to burn than literally all of his brothers.

Twi is close to, if not darker than Wind, depending o how you feel about the Gerudo Twilight theory. He's got darker skin from his heritage, but also because he's a freaking farm boy! As a former farm-girl (man I miss that) I can say this- come summer you're either red as a hen's comb or you're brown as their eggs cause there isn't much in between!

Sky is tan. Not as much as most Skyloftians, because he's always been something of a sleepy remlit and tends to doze in shady places. He's tan though, a warm sun-kissed color, and definitely handles heat better than anyone blow him on this list.

Wild is nearly as tan as Sky. Kid runs around half clothed most of the time, his tan is everywhere and he is incapable of burning. Even without sun, I hc him as having a naturally darker skin shade, although I also have him dealing with vitiligo, so he does get selectively crispy in some spots, which is annoying as all get out.

When split, Red has a healthy tan from being out in the sun a lot, and Green's a got a softish one himself. Blue's inside of the forge a lot after their adventure, so he doesn't see the sun unless he's training, patrolling, or got dragged out by Zelda or his brothers. Vio though? Boy looks like he's burn if he stood in the sun for ten minutes, has to wear long sleeves or suffer throughout summer (and suffer he does) so he and Shadow have to share a sun umbrella in the warmer months when they go places.

Collectively of course, Four is only lightly tanned, hardly enough to be noticed, unless you stand him next to Legend or Wars.

Time is a healthy golden himself, I think. Like, again, farm life does that to you. Also he's got a wife he has no problem with him working shirtless, so this ain't no farmers tan, this is the legit thing. He burns easy-ish (Kolkiri ae essentially Irish), but he is capable of tanning.

Hyrule is pale. Like, the sun has been hiding behind clouds of malice for ages, you can't tell me he's tan. He's naturally of a darker skin tone, maybe slightly olive (I've seen hcs that Catalia is essentially Italy) but he just looks sick most of the time because he's never seen the sun since he started adventuring. (I have a friend who's a light olive, but tends to hide indoors, so they kinda look sickly when they don't get any sun, even when they're perfectly fine).

Wars is pale. Like, he can't tan. There's a double purpose for that scarf, and while he gets teased, it works well as a veil against harsh sunlight. He's kinda just- white. Like, not super pale, but the Gerudo desert would kill him without sun-block.

Legend could be mistaken for a porcelain doll. Like, he grew up in the shade of an orchard, and while, sure, he tanned when he was travelling abroad, he also spent a lot of time in Lorule, which has very poor lighting, and afterwards he was always galivanting around in big hats and weird clothes that covered most of him. Legend cannot tan well, and it always comes at the cost of a sunburn first.

And boy oh boy did I get carried away with that! But yes, anon, I agree. These boys ain't all white.
