Kawaki Academy Arc: Hana
Tumblr media
So this episode was mostly about Himawari's teacher Hana, although we got to learn some stuff about the students too.
Contrary to her character design, Hana has no relation to Sai, Yakumo Kurama, or any of the other painting-type shinobi. She's a clumsy wind user who perpetually sounds like she's on helium.
Tumblr media
So she's invited some special instructors to teach the class: Boruto, Sarada, and Mitsuki. Ehou's mind immediately sees it as a networking opportunities. He says you have to get connected to get ahead, because if you get the wrong sensei or team, you may never get a chance to make it to jonin or even chuunin.
It's sad that civilian kids have to think so cynically when they're young, especially while rich kids like Hima can stay innocent, but it's definitely realistic. Props to the writing team for that subtle commentary.
Tumblr media
Anyway, Team 7 takes the kids to the gym for some demonstrations. In true little brother style, Boruto gets in Kawaki's face and acts obnoxious. Kawaki kicks him away, and the two start fighting in class.
Poor Himawari just mutters "this always happens." She knew those two would embarrass her the moment they were in a room together.
Tumblr media
While Mituski is showing a lightning technique, some of the little kids move for a closer look, because like moths to a flame, they have no sense of self-preservation. Hana wind-blasts them of the way before one of them can get electrocuted, but instead of being a badass moment, the kids whine and she apologizes.
Next up is a bit of product placement, I mean team-building. Boruto brings enough burgers for half the class, then says they have to fight over them. They can go anywhere on campus, and whoever has the red balls by the end of the period wins the burgers.
Tumblr media
But since it's peacetime, none of these children know how to fight, so it becomes an awkward game of tag.
(Unrelated note: I apologize to Harika for insulting her fashion sense. Other than the aviator helmet, her outfit is actually put together well. She even has a cute purse...or maybe it's a bug-carrying sack like Shino and Shibi used to wear. Who knows?)
Tumblr media
Mimi, who I misgendered last time and is actually a girl, is the only child who thinks "Hey, maybe instead of fighting we should go visit the vending machines." Ehou decides this is AGAINST THE RULES, even though as Soul (girl in red) points out, the teachers never said anything against scavenging.
He confiscates Mimi's candy bar, and soon the whole class is fighting over whether poor Mimi deserves chocolate. Despite Hana's efforts to calm them down, the class splits up, with Ehou and Soul leading each side. Everyone except Kae and the Uzumaki kids boycotts school because they don't want to study with "the enemy."
Tumblr media
In one of Shino and Anko's little peanut gallery conversations, Shino concludes this lesson must have been "too advanced" for children who haven't learned about teamwork yet.
The crotchety old man in me wanted Iruka to come down and remind these kids that if they don't come to school, they can't graduate and become ninja. But instead it becomes Hana's duty to bring the class back together.
Tumblr media
She approaches both ringleaders to coax them back to school. Soul apparently idolizes Gai-sensei to the point that she has his picture in an old-fashioned locket. So Hana personally sewed Soul a hideous spandex uniform for her to wear. Soul understandably refuses, saying she admires Gai's skills, not his fashion sense.
I'm calling it now, this girl is the new Tenten: a snarky mom-friend who is obsessed with taijutsu. She's skyrocketed in my personal tier list for this class.
Hana bribes Ehou with ramen and a Hokage speech. She then sends out mysterious invitations to each student. They all show up at school, and she announces they're having a cherry blossom viewing party.
Tumblr media
The kids point out that it's not the right season for cherry blossoms. She has the kids close their eyes, and then suddenly petals are raining down from the sky. As a viewer, I thought this Hana's chance to step out of Team 7's shadow and show off her fancy genjutsu.
But actually the petals were paper. She was just using wind jutsu to blow the petals around like a fan. But everyone agrees it's the thought that counts.
Tumblr media
Soul and Ehou confide in Himawari that they mostly came out of pity for Hana-sensei, since even though she can't do anything right, she still tries hard.
On one hand, that's pretty brutal after Hana visited them both personally for a pep talk. On the other hand, Hana tripped over a rock and needed Himawari and Kawaki to catch her. She also burned the lunch she cooked for the students beyond recognition. So it's a little understandable why the kids doubt her competence.
The last shot shows Shino asking Boruto if he'd like to be a guest instructor again, and Boruto nopes out of that quickly. He's seen how brutal these kids can get. Genocidal aliens he can handle - petty preteen drama he cannot.

unprompted ask / always accepting
@kitschd said: “Daeyun-senpai, are Sunny and Mako always…like that?” David asks, referring to the way they always bicker with each other.  “Shouldn’t who step in?  What if the boss walks in?”
it was no novelty in stardust: the competition between these two. ever since sunny started working here, it had been like this with mako, who felt threatened by his quick rise to popularity. to make matters worse, the fact that the blond didn’t offer any extra services & still manage to compete against him, was a hit to his ego. their banter was sometimes harmless, like something that you’d expect to see between siblings, but every now & then, things could get real heated, & sunny wasn’t one to hold back if pushed too much. daeyun was usually good at telling which situations called for an intervention & which would die down on its own. this, to him, it was nothing. although, it was understandable if david thought otherwise. he hadn’t been with them for that long to be able to tell.
“they act like children, but they know better than to keep it up when the boss shows up.” at least, daeyun wanted to believe that. there hadn’t been a time in which something like that happened yet, but if things got too heated one day, who knows. he didn’t want to think about it. “just wait here & see.” he told david prior to hopping off the stool of the bar, walking over where the other two were bantering before he brought their heads together, smashing them against each other. whoever said that daeyun wasn’t the violent type, didn’t know him when he was dealing with these two, constantly testing his patience.
Tumblr media
“you should be giving a better example to your junior. whatever it is this time, cut it. we still have the whole night ahead.”

⸙ ˚₊ ➷ NEKOMA WITH A SHY! ANXIOUS AND ASTHMATIC MANAGER ! ❞
✎ . . . hello since your requests are open may i request vbc teams (karasuno, nekoma and shiratorizawa) + shy manager with anxiety and asthma? i rlly am hungry for some team dynamics and your work is amazing so if you may? YOU DON'T HAVE TO DO IT IF YOU DON'T WANT TO DO IT THOUGH!
❝ ― submitted by @ nonnie <3 ❞
-ˏˋ ➶ character(s) ━ nekoma vbc <3
[ trigger warnings ━ none ]
✎ . . . TEAM MANAGER HEADCANONS.
[ other parts coming soon . . . ]
Tumblr media
NEKOMA VBC.
➜ after finding out about karasuno having TWO managers now,
➜ like they  m u l t i p l i e d ✖➗➕➖
➜ and with taketora's failure of recruiting one,
➜ kuroo was PRACTICALLY BEGGING YOU to be their manager
➜ his reasons being and i quote; “ giving more motivation to the team ” and of course “ to show those bastards the sanctity of nekoma ”
➜ and rooster boi was a determined person, once he sets his mind to something ─ he will do everything to attain it
➜ you knew kuroo ever since you first started first year with him, the both of you quietly competing against each other on your collage preparatory class but soon grew closer to be called friends
➜ but he'd always call you his rival even though it was lowkey one-sided
➜ and after hearing that the club you joined in this year, just for the sake of joining; disbanded, and kuroo was UNASHAMED to ask of you to be the manager of their team
➜ it's been two ever since nekoma had a manager and he was TIRED™ of not having one and it was already his last year playing
➜ you having no other reasons to object, you agreed, but not without asking in a small voice to help you introduce yourself to the team
➜ you were shy to new people ─ hell, even after knowing him for three years you would still get shy around him
➜ and because of that, kuroo was already one step ahead of everything;
➜ talking to the reliable third years ─ kai and yaku, about looking out for you explaining your slight anxiety and asthma problems
➜ homeboy would have a team meeting just to discuss and announce about a new female manager
➜ YAMAMOTO DEAD ASS DROPPED ON HIS KNEES WITH TEARS ON HIS EYES AND PRAISED WHOEVER GAVE HIM THIS OPPORTUNITY
➜ the third years weren't shocked, since kuroo already had a word with them seperately
➜ LEV, BABY BOY WAS ECSTATIC, HE WAS ALWAYS IN FOR THE IDEA OF MEETING SOMEONE NEW
➜ kuroo knew that lev would be ALL UP ON HER FACE if he doesn't do anythibg about it, so he threatened on benching him if he ever does something to scare away this ONE CHANCE of having a real girl manager
➜ fukunaga was curious to say the least, he wondered how it would be like to have a girl manager helping them around since it's always him and yaku
➜ inuoka, being the bubbly boy he is, was excited to have a female manager, since it is his first year in the vbc
➜ kenma was just straight up vibin, he already knew alot about everything he needed to know about you because of kuroo
➜ but still listened as he played with his psp
➜ shibayama and tamahiko were neutral about it honestly, satisfied because their team needed a bit more motivation if they wanted to win nationals
➜ kuroo just wanted to make you feel comfortable and safe with the team
➜ genuinely, the team didn't know how it would honestly flow with actually meeting their manager
➜ scared of scaring her off, they remained uncharacteristically toned down abit right before they meet you
➜ kuroo opened the metal doors to the volleyball gym, while peaking your pretty little head out to see where the members where; you were shocked to see them straightening their backs the second they saw your head peaking out from behind kuroo
➜ it was . . silent, and it was weird since, you've once secretly dropped by on their practices and they were evidently chaotic just by the sounds of their voices which echoed around the gym
➜ your palpitations slowed down a bit as you fully showed yourself to the members before flusteredly bowing at them
“ I HOPE WE CAN GET ALONG ”
➜ it was quiet for a second, before you hear sobbing as you lifted your head up to see yamamoto trying not to cry
“ this, this is my first time having a female manager . . . ” with snot drooling from his nose
➜ being the worried sweet senpai manager you are, you hurriedly took out your unused napkin from your pocket which you packed for the sole purpose of avoiding smoke; offering the napkin to him as it only made him burst into TEARS streaming down his face
➜ like that scene where the third years and second years bursted in tears when kiyoko put up their banner?
➜ yeah that
➜ but it's just taketora LMAOO
➜ before their captain could tell him off, a small laugh came out of you and kuroo just looked at you like
➜ 👁👁
➜ kuroo : ma'AM DID YOU JUST ─
➜ cue kuroo also dying inside because YOU. RARELY. LAUGH.
➜ since you're more on the reserved side
➜ kai and yaku almost had to put their foot down because now you have broken their captain until you spoke out
“ i was honestly anxious when you guys were quiet, since i've never seen you guys as serious whenever i try and drop by to look. ”
➜ in the end of the meeting you've got acquaintaned yourself with shibayama and inouka, though the former seemed a bit flustered.
➜ you've also hold a small conversation with kenma, the both of you kinda clicked right away since both of you were a bit shy aswell. while you listened to lev rambling excitedly, not noticing your slight trembling figure
➜ bECAUSE MANS WAS A WHOLE ASS ONE FOOT TALLER THAN YOU
➜ after meeting them, the team had already attached themselves in your heart
➜ baby girl you are ATTACHED
➜ though it was subtle but you've noticed how the boys really cared about you ─ bruh even coach nekomata since he has noticed that you are a great asset to the team
➜ if not yaku, kai would always remind you of taking your meds for your asthma if you ever have been prescribed one
➜ kenma would always be the first one to notice if you were ever tensed up or your anxiety was acting up
➜ since he's very perceptive and observant
➜ he'd grow a soft spot for you and if he ever sees you stressed, he'd let you borrow his psp
➜ shibayama, inouka, fukunaga and tamahiko would ALWAYS help you carry stuff around because they don't want your asthma to act up or else tHEY WILL ACT UP
➜ fukunaga would always tell you his jokes since now he finally has someone to tell them to whenever he's in the sidelines watching the others play
➜ yamamoto would PROTECT you from any dangers, like literally, mans knew he was done for the day you gave him your napkin 👁👄👁
➜ you're literally one of the first girls he isn't shy to talk to and one of the first girls to not scurry away whenever he's near
➜ as i said, yaku would BE YOUR MOTHER, he'd one step ahead with having extra masks for you on his bag and an extra inhaler he borrowed from you in case you have forgotten yours
➜ LEV, KUROO & YAMAMOTO ARE YOUR BODY GUARDS AND THAT'S ON PERIODT😡💅
➜ period. periodt. periodism. periodic table.
➜ would not let any guy from other teams come your way and bother you while being the good manager you are
➜ and while doing so, shows you off as they are basically saying “ this is the sanctity of nekoma, you bastards wish you were us. ”
➜ these boys CARE FOR YOU like alot and they love it when you reciprocate their love
➜ whenever you surprise them every other day with their favourite snacks despite always being anxious of looking at the eyes of the guy on cash register,
➜ always having their towels and waterbottles ready for them to use after practice
➜ giving them clarity of mind before a match and whenever the non-regulars start to feel insecure
➜ overall, they'd be the sweetest boys of yours that would give and likely to give you the world to you as you would to them😡💝
-ˏˋ playing soleil's tape ˊˎ-
[ 📼 ] . . . i'm crying bubs, y'all had me at 200 last night ?? um okay i didn't even know people like me enought to even follow me 🥺 y'all cute or whateva😳✋ i'm not even DONE WITH MY LOVE LANGUAGE HEADCANONS FOR 100 FOLLOWERS HSJSJDJ but here's a manger headcanons mini series one of my nonnie's requested for to celebrate 200 of you guys !! <33

Ojiro Aran x Reader
Part 2 of this scribble
Genre: angsty with a happy ending
Warnings: Inarizaki shares 1 brain cell and the manager is using it 24/7 ; some cursing
A/N: after that first part I felt really bad for breaking reader's heart so here we go.
Tumblr media
For the remaining days of the training camp Aran can't look you in the eyes. Somehow that hurts more than his rejection. Your heart lays in shards and pieces yet that doesn't sting nearly as much as the awkward glances and silence and the careful tip-toeing he does when you're around. You try your best to act as if nothing happened. Hiding behind laughter and smiles is so easy nobody on the team notices you're heartbroken.
It all changes once you return home. Your room is so silent when you hide under covers and hug your favourite plushy. Your throat itches and every breath hurts. It's just a stupid crush, you keep telling yourself, just a crush that will fade away. Yet in that moment it doesn't hurt any less. You burry your face in the pillow to muffle your sobs.
Before the summer break started you made plans with other third years to meet at Kita's and watch the stars. Hours before you were supposed to meet you come up with an excuse and stay home. You aren't sure you could handle Aran's presence without bursting into tears.
You shudder at the though of the coming weekly practices. If only you had put more effort in finding another manager. Quiting the club would be so simple then.
Tumblr media
Summer practices were the ideal time for mischief. With no homework so much time was left to freely ponder how best to rig the vending machine. At turn you saw a prank practically begging to be pulled. Watermelon dowsed in chilli oil, some salt in a water bottle, volleyball covered with slime that could easily be blamed on sweaty hands, ah the opportunities really were endless. It was the time when your talents shone the brightest.
At least they did in previous years. Now you just want to reorganize the storage and return home as soon as possible.
“Are ya feelin' okay?“ asks Kita after helping you move some very heavy boxes.
Your heart drops. Has he noticed you've barely been holding back tears? “What do you mean?“
“You've been behavin' these last weeks.“
Ah. His reasoning catches you by complete surprise. Part of you wants to laugh, part of you wants to smack him. A part of you is disappointed he hadn't noticed you really need a shoulder to cry on. “Such observational skills Shinsuke, no wonder coach picked you to be the captain.“
“Did somethin' happen between you and-“
“Nothing happened.“
He knows you're lying. The light pat on the head he gives you tells he sees the hurt you've been so thoroughly concealing. Your throat starts itching again and tears threaten to spill before you bite your lip, too stubborn to let them fall.
You take a moment to compose yourself before returning to the gym, glad Aran is nowhere to be seen. Some of your boys are gathered by the bench and you hear the twins arguing. At first you don't care, after all it's a normal occurence. Your curiousity is only sparked once you hear the mention of your name.
“What are they fighting about this time?“ you ask Omimi when you come closer.
Immediate silence falls on the group as they all look at you. Great, what did you do this time?
Atsumu grabs the letter laying on the bench and hands it to you. Your heart drops. You don't have to read it to know what it is.
Your name on the envelope is written so big it's impossible to overlook and it's sealed with a glittery heart sticker.
“Open it, open it,“ urges the blonde and Osamu immediately berates him to leave you be.
You wonder who it could be from. Or maybe you don't want to know. It doesn't fill you with any kind of giddines or anticipation, just with slight nausea accompanied by shaking hands.
You hear a fight erupt behind you.
“Senpai, should we stop them?“ Ginjima points at twins rolling on the ground. You shrug, not really caring what they are up to.
“They could get hurt,“ says Omimi.
“Don't worry Omiren they have no brain so there won't be any permanent damage.“
You stuff the letter in the pocket of your jacket. The tears you've been trying so hard to hold back start running down your cheek and you hurry away before boys could notice.
Tumblr media
The letter lies unopened on your bed. You've been contemplating throwing it away on the way home but decided against it. It would be too harsh, throwing someone's feelings away without even considering them. You remove the glittery heart sticker and read the paper inside.
Dear y/n,
you're truly amazin'. Everytime I see ya my day becomes better-
You stop reading. Not because you wouldn't care, but because you recognize the handwriting.
Tumblr media
The plan was genius. Bulletproof. Absolutely fantastic without any loopholes and no way of anything possibly going wrong in any way.
All Twins needed to do is make Aran believe someone else is competing for your heart. Stoke his jealousy till it becomes stronger than his utter embarassement over having completely misunderstood your confession.
Only they had no idea you knew the handwriting of everyone on the team in case you ever needed to forge their signature.
Moments after reading the love letter you decide to talk to Osamu the coming day. What point would there be in playing with him? You weren't looking forward to the conversation in the slightest still, better let him down gently as soon as possible.
You try to get him outside after practice ends but his brother doesn't seem pleased only one of them is having your attentin. You grab Osamu's arm, ready to drag him away. “Sorry but we gotta speak in private.“
He doesn't even flinch under your tries to move him. “'Bout what?“
You don't want to do it, but if he refuses to move you had no other choice. You pull out the love letter and watch as all the colour drains from his face. “This.“
“Why would 'Samu know anythin' bout that?“ interferes Atsumu waving frantically and as if that didn't already raise your suspicions he continues to blabber on and on till Osamu stops him.
“Stop Tsumu. We've been found out.“
After they explain their genious plan you need a moment to grasp what is happening. “Okay. Let me get this straight. You thought making Aran jealous would make him confess?“ They nod. “Right. How does me thinking Osamu's got a crush on me help?“
“Yer weren't supposed to know who wrote the letter,“ mummbles Osamu.
“Samu sweetie, you have the most memorable handwriting I've ever seen. By that I mean unreadable. And you used the wrong kanji here, by the way.“
God, when did your boys become such idiots?
“We're sorry.“
If you weren't feeling so many emotions at once you'd find their crushed faces hilarious. Instead you sigh. You're exhausted. And in a need of ice-cream, preferably with some cookies on the side. “Right. Let's never mention this again.“
“Then Aran-san and ya-“
“Aran doesn't like me, alright? It's fine, I'll get over it. Now get your asses back to practice!“
“I never said I didn't like you,“ says a familiar voice from behind your back.
The faces twins make while backing away to leave you alone with Aran make you wish you'd disappear into thin air. It takes all the strength you have to turn. It's the first time in your life you aren't happy to see him. You stand in silence, avoiding his gaze and condidering running away. Aran speaks up before you can act.
“Sorry for avoidin' ya. I've been meanin' to talk with ya but couldn't think of what to say.“ He fidgetes with a rose in his hands. “I'm sorry.“
“Why?“ you weakly ask, unsure if you want to hear the answer.
“When you... confessed. I thought it was a prank. And I never let you explain cause I got scared. I like ya, y/n. But I could never tell if you were messin' around with yer flirtin' or I was just readin' too much into it.“
“Why would I mess around?“
“Well... I never thought you'd actually be interested in me... I mean yer so amazin' ya know. It's no wonder ya have secret admireres. Ya keep track of everythin' the team needs, yer always cheerin' me up when I need it the most.“ His shoulders slump as he utters his next words. “I never believed ya could be in love with someone as borin' as me. I just want ya to know I do like you. More as a friend. Though ya deserve someone better.“
Aran is confessing to you. He is proclaiming his love for you, holding a rose, looking like the prince charming straight out of your dreams. And yet your annoyance grows with every word that comes out of his mouth.
“Excuse me?“ you interrupt. “What the hell do you mean I deserve someone better?“
Your words take him aback. He tries to mummble his way out of this particular pickle but you're having none of it.
“Gosh Aran you can be real impossible sometimes! First of all, how dare youeven think I would ask you out as a joke?! Is that how low of an opinion you have about me?! We're friends for fucks' sake you know me better than that! Second of all, why on earth can't you see I've been head over hills in love with you since we were first years?! And I swear, if I have to hear one more oh I'm nothin' special, I'll throw some hands, you hear me?! You are amazing! The best possible friend one could ask for, you have the patience of a saint, you're fun to be around, and so much more! What do I have to do to get this to stick in your head?! Use super-glue?! I don't want anyone else! I want you.“
Aran looks completely shocked as tears form in his eyes.
Oh no. Now you've done it.
“Please don't cry cause then I'l cry and this will get even more embarassing.“
He chuckles. “Sorry y/n.“ He takes your hand in his. “I really, really want to be your boyfriend.“
You're the one trying not to sob now. Ah, how the tables have turned, you think and nod. You can hear cheering somewhere in the distance but you couldn't care less. You grab Aran’s jacket and pull him down, crashing his lips to yours. They're soft and warm and you don't want to part from him, ever. He hugs you and you're glad he's holding you so close because right now you couldn't stand on your own. When you part he presses a kiss to your nose and then forehead.
“I love you,“ he whispers.

Mairimashita! Iruma-kun s2 ep12
Tumblr media
We’re halfway through the second season, I suppose?
This episode gives us a little glimpse of the home life of the Abnormal Class students and also a bit of insight about Kalego-sensei himself.
Tumblr media
Grandpa Sullivan is excited for the coming vacation as it means he could spend time with his grandson. Opera then tells him he still has some work to do before then including a request from Opera themselves. As repayment for helping him look cool in front of Iruma and friends in the party episode, Grandpa Sullivan agrees to Opera's request and says he, too finds it interesting.
Okay, just a thought but I heard the episode with the party was a filler? Like, it wasn’t in the manga or something or did I get that wrong? Or did they decide to connect it to the story?
Tumblr media
At school, Kalego-sensei gets a special task from the school principal: to visit the homes of the Abnormal Class students before the vacation starts. He hates it but he has no choice. He decides to just go in, talk to the parents, go out and to end this as quickly as possible.
Tumblr media
First up is Asmodeus! Azz mother unfortunately isn't home though (Azz purposely not let his mom know about the meeting) so his butler is the adult there with him. Kalego-sensei then asks him if he's told his parents about school matters and Azz replies that he does... talk about Iruma and his achievements. Sensei gets annoyed as he was supposed to talk about himself but Azz said he excels at school all the time so there's no need to say anything about it.
Tumblr media
Two cute girls (who are relatives, calling Azz "brother") comes out and agrees that Azz is amazing although they hate it that he had been too preoccupied with Iruma recently that they don't hang out as much anymore. Azz apologizes to them... and says Iruma comes first. This led the two kids to get mad at Iruma and insult him. Azz runs after them trying to change their minds.
The butler then talks to Sensei a bit about Azz's past and says the boy has changed and had become happier after enrolling at Babyls and meeting Iruma. Kalego-sensei says he understands cause as demons, becoming the subordinate of someone who beat you is a normal thing. He does note though that if Asmodeus stops being too narrow-minded and only thinking about Iruma, he’d grow and become better and if that happens, he’d become a better subordinate to Iruma. He does tell the butler that he won’t be telling Azz this as the guy has to figure it out by himself.
Tumblr media
Next is Clara's family who even gives him a warm welcome. There's also a musical number much to his annoyance. He absolutely doesn't like it in there and wanted to leave lol. The anime really made musical numbers the Valac Family thing, huh?
Poor Sensei is at their mercy haha.
Tumblr media
Just when he couldn't take it anymore, Clara's older brother finally makes his appearance and apologizes to Sensei for the trouble. Urara, unlike everyone else in the family is polite and mature making Kalego-sensei question if the boy really is a part of the family or if he was kidnapped from somewhere else lol. Sensei was able to talk to them normally for a while before they start their antics again. Sensei was able to give advice about Clara though. He mentions how Clara is a bit insensitive (as she doesn’t consider how her actions affect others) and causes trouble but is good in a sense that she could make people follow her own pace.
Oh and Clara’s mom mentioned that someone like Urara does come into their family from time to time. Like, most of them will act like the typical Valac family member but once in a while, they’d produce someone like Urara whose different. I think this is interesting since they have been hinting about him from season 1 and now he’s here and there’s something about him that’s different.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The other students homes aren't any better and Sensei had to deal with whatever trouble or craziness that'd be there waiting for him. By the end of it all, he was tired.
In a way, he should’ve expected this. I mean, this is the Abnormal Class we;re talking about. He got a lot of souvenirs from them all though and has a bad full of random stuff by the end (most came from Clara’s family).
Tumblr media
The final visit was to Iruma's house. Kalego-sensei just wanted things to be over with but his fears came go be realized when he meets the one person he didn't want to see: Opera who used to be his senpai.
Sensei seem to be scared or at least very wary of Opera that he uses Iruma as a shield lol.
Tumblr media
Grandpa shows up and shows what Kalego-sensei looked like when he was young. He then proceeds to drop some details about Kalego-sensei as a student (as Sensei complains about it).
It seems that back in his school days, Kalego-sensei gets challenged to fights often and rumors about him pop up as well which he finds to be a pain. The only person he could talk to was Baram-sensei who was also a student back then. The two talked about what's going on and realized Kalego-sensei must've been mistaken by others as someone else. There was no student council back then so things were also more chaotic (It seems Ameri’s influence made a big difference to how school operates now).
Tumblr media
He then later learns who everyone mistook him for. The person who the rumors talk about that could defeat many demons: Opera. Since then, Opera had been sort of bossing Kalego-sensei around and it seems sensei might be a bit traumatized as he uses Iruma as shield once again.
Nice. We get a little backstory not just about Kalego-sensei but also about Opera who was a delinquent. Opera seem to still enjoy making Kalego feel bad.
Tumblr media
They eventually proceed with the parent-teacher meeting although not without pestering Kalego-sensei for a moment. Sensei talked about the troubles Iruma got into but he also mentioned his accomplishments. Grandpa then takes the record book sensei is holding and reveals it's entirely about Iruma.
Iruma then realizes the hard work Kalego-sensei does as he probably wasn't the only one who sensei had looked into. Sensei takes his book back and gives Iruma proper advice. He says Iruma shouldn’t mix up responsibility with self-sacrifice and should be careful with the actions he takes.
When it was finally over and he could finally leave, Opera forces Kalego-sensei to stay and even had him turned into his familiar form.
Tumblr media
The next day, Sensei thanks everyone for letting him into their homes but informs them that he'd be increasing the number of their homework and everyone complains while Sensei is happy to see them struggling.
Tumblr media
Later, as vacation finally comes close, the class goes to Iruma’s house to invite him to Walter Park. Iruma agrees of course and the group excitedly talked about what they'd do next.
--
I really liked this episode. It’s nice to see more of Iruma’s classmates even if it’s just for a few seconds each. We also get more info on Clara and Asmodeus and about their family members who hadn’t appeared til now. Also backstory about Opera!
The thing I liked the most about this however, is seeing what kind of person Kalego-sensei is. He’s strict and gets easily angry and seems to not like his students. He would be what we’d describe as a “terror teacher” but surprisingly, he isn’t unfair. He wouldn’t randomly flunk a student because he doesn’t like them and does take his job seriously. He doesn’t disregard the good points of a troublesome student and also looks into how a student could better themselves. He likes seeing them struggle but would acknowledge their accomplishments (we also see this back at the end of the exams where he disappointingly announced that everyone passed). Grandpa Sullivan even mentioned how he’s glad Kalego-sensei is the teacher in-charge. No wonder everyone at school respects Kalego-sensei - it’s not just about his strength or how scary he is but it’s cause he truly is a responsible, reliable, and competent teacher.
I like how we’re learning a lot about other characters this season. It makes them more likable and makes it more fun to watch their interactions with one another.
I guess the Walter Park arc would be next? I hear it’s action-packed so I look forward to it.
Thank you for reading this far!

Review! Digimon Adventure: (2020) Episode 47: The Villains of the Wastelands
Tumblr media
In this episode, Taichi and two enemy camps fight to determine who’s the most incompetent leader.
Perhaps the most relieving part of this string of filler hasn’t been the shift to lighthearted stories and lack of exhausting life-or-death situations. Maybe it’s because Taichi was relegated to second fiddle status as the show threw the other kids a bone. Now that the bottle has spun his way again, he’s back to consuming all the oxygen in the room and stifling any attempt at enjoyable content. Some eeks through thanks to the sheer zaniness and stupidity of the guest enemies, but the zaniness and stupidity Taichi himself provides is far less amusing. Not only is his stupidity utterly shameful for a Digimon protagonist at this point in the series, but the show’s lackluster effort to portray it as endearing leaves us wondering how to draft our apology letter to Tagiru Akashi.
Bad decisions are the powerhouses of character development. Kid does something dumb, kid pays for it, kid learns lesson. While we love our deeper flaws and repressive childhood traumas, bonehead mistakes are free real estate. Sometimes they even bring out the deeper flaws (yeah, we miss SkullGreymon too)! For the first half of this episode, all Taichi does is make bad decisions. When he learns that Joe and Gomamon were taken in two different directions, instead of exhibiting a lick of common sense and calling for backup, he and Agumon split up, denying him any firepower and denying his partner any chance of evolution. It is a lapse in judgment totally in character for this moron, and hardly the last one he makes here, but also one that needs to be recognized as a disaster in the making.
Not only is Taichi not punished for his hubris, but you knew he wouldn’t be. The reality check that Taichi has needed time and time and time again continues to elude him, allowing him to be the same idiot he was early on, only now with more dangerous knives to play with (at least when he doesn’t tell them to wander off on their own). This is no different than Tagiru continuing to be a rude, boisterous halfwit too stupid to realize his faults all the way up to the point where that’s exactly who was needed to save the world. Taichi may not be quite as insufferable as Tagiru, but the fact that Taichi is rewarded with more evolutions and bigger victories than Tagiru had makes his lack of progress more offensive. Also not helping is nobody calling Taichi out for his stupidity, while the rest of the Hunters cast, to their credit, barely tolerated Tagiru themselves.
Like Hunters, if the main character isn’t going to grow, the job falls to the episode’s guest ally. Nohemon is defeated because he failed at his job of guarding the water source in town once factioning took hold and things got ugly. Which makes sense because scarecrows are pretty useless once the birds aren’t afraid of them. He doesn’t believe in Taichi either, but shows him the way since he has nothing better to do. Until his big shot at the end, he doesn’t actually do anything other than give Taichi bad advice. Even that only works because of a lucky break, but if he wrests some control back in the end it’s something.
The only reason Taichi, Agumon, and Nohemon succeed is that their enemies are somehow even bigger jokes than they are. At lease these jokes are kind of amusing. A Gaossmon who bosses over a Tyrannomon because an evolution failed to disrupt their hierarchy is a fun concept, and Atamadekachimon and Minidekachimon are just made for laughing at. They and their idiot Goblimon armies let Agumon waltz into one camp and manage to set the other one on fire by themselves. The farce only continues from there and goes a little ways into making up for Taichi’s lack of anything resembling competent leadership.
If pointless episodes like these are going to find any value, it’s in serving to make its featured characters more likable. They’re often a necessary evil early on as we learn about the characters and begin to root for them. This far in, there’s no reason to swallow Taichi’s mistakes. He’s a bad decision maker and he should feel bad about it. If he won’t, we have no reason to cheer for his journey. After doing everything wrong and again only pulling out a lucky win at the last minute, he returns home and acts like their teammates getting kidnapped and him weakening his partnership to save them alone wasn’t a big deal. Yamato absolutely should punch him in the face.
My Grade: D+
Loose Data:
This is the first time in the anime we have reason to pay attention to Nohemon, and talking through the crow rather than the face is is a fun touch.
Nohemon asks if Joe was the wimpy human that got carried away. Taichi says yes. Way to stick up for senpai.
Taichi also ignores all of the Nohemon’s good reasons not to split up with Agumon and also gets mad when Nohemon calls him a kid. Class act, this one.
When the episode isn’t about him (and sometimes even if it is), Joe continues to be nothing more than a joke character. Asking for a lawyer? Really?
If shooting a bow and arrow is as easy as Taichi makes it look, then Nohemon really isn’t that special and should have just found a replacement once his arm got chewed off. Anybody would do.
Why are the two camps fighting over water when Team Gaossmon has a large enough reservoir that it floods the entire cave when busted open?
Awfully nice of Tyranomon to stand there like an idiot for a second while Nohemon aims his big shot to stop him.
Much as Taichi and Agumon should have been overwhelmed and defeated in their efforts, a surprise intervention from the rest of the team would have been too convenient an escape. Having said that, Hikari mumbling her brother’s name in her sleep at the start of the episode and greeting him at the end would have offered enough of a BS excuse for how they knew he was in danger that it could have been tolerated.

“D..did you just make that noise?” For Sora/Jyou
Number 20: “D-Did you just make that noise?”
Characters: Sora/Jyou. This takes place sometime during the Tri timeline. I tried to add some references to other pairings you like, so if you squint, I hope you can see them. I absolutely loved the idea of all of the Chosen in their little Halloween costumes, and had to stop myself around 1500 words because I was getting way too excited. Also, I apologize for the abrupt ending!
Send me a prompt if you’d like!
In retrospect, maybe encouraging her rambunctious group of friends to go to a haunted house on Halloween may not have been the best idea she’s ever had, but Takenouchi Sora refused to admit defeat. The past week had been stressful, filled with exams, sports tournaments, and holiday festivities. The group was due for some relaxation.
As Sora watched Daisuke and Iori competitively inhale their second yakitori, she felt more like a mother hen tending to her chicks than a high schooler. “Hey, guys!” she called, attempting to gather the attention of at least two of their collective braincells. Any response she might have received would have been lost in the throngs of people that crowded the waterfront. Festival tents lined the shore, the smells of fried food and pumpkin spice wafted through the air.
Each second of silence only added to her annoyance. She had worked endlessly for days to plan this get together, and it seemed that no one was taking it seriously. “Did you need something, Sora-san?” A small squeak escaped her throat as her body whipped around in surprise. The skirt of her devil costume swayed around her hips as she tried to regain control of her breathing.
“Oh, it’s you, Jyou-senpai.” She managed, heart pounding in her chest. A Bakemon costume (hand crafted by Mimi) hung off his thin frame, casting grueling shadows across his cheekbones. The sight reminded her of their first encounter with the ghost-like creatures, all wrapped up and ready for a sacrifice.
Instead of responding, the gentleman in question smiled a toothless grin. The soft glow of the fairy lights illuminated dark blue eyes as they scanned the crowd for his friends. “You know, everyone looks like they’re having fun.”
From their position on the outskirts of the festival grounds, Sora could make out Mimi’s hair as the girl mercilessly teased Koushiro. Her cat costume left little to the imagination, and Koushiro’s pink cheeks contrasted against his blue wizard robes.
Sora’s tension eased when her eyes landed on a blonde vampire and his mummified friend chatting amiably next to a noodle cart, toothy grins gleaming under the lights. It always soothed her worries when those two boys managed to get along. Their siblings, ever the rowdy pair, competed head-to-head in a heated battle for dominance: dart throwing. At stake? A month supply of strawberry ice cream for the girl in the Wizardmon-inspired ensemble and a kiss on the cheek for a smaller, blonder vampire. Sora laughed lightly as Takeru’s last swing wedged itself in the bullseye and Hikari’s eyes widened in disbelief.
Even if it wasn’t Miyako’s slightly off-key voice that filtered through the karaoke speakers, she would have been easy enough to find in her full Sailor Moon cosplay. Ken had managed to slip away and join Iori and Daisuke in their quest to consume any meat that was wedged onto a stick. They looked darling, Sora decided, dressed as Alvin, Simon, and Theodore.
“I guess. I just wanted everyone to go to the haunted house together. What’s the point of planning this get together if we all aren’t, you know, getting together?” Punctuating question with a sigh, her shoulders slumped forward. “But,” she continued, “they all look happy enough, so it’s okay.”
Jyou opened his mouth to speak, but quickly shut it. Sora’s hands fiddled with the plastic horns nestled in her hair. Her eyes flicked towards her navy-haired friend as he cleared his throat nervously. “Well, just because they won’t go doesn’t mean we can’t.”
Her rejection died in her throat when her eyes settled on his hidden smile and flushed cheeks. “Jyou-senpai, you don’t have to sacrifice your night to entertain me. I’ll be fine. Besides, I think Koushiro-san might spontaneously combust if Mimi-chan tries to feed him again.”
In an uncharacteristic act of boldness, his slender fingers wrapped themselves around her wrist. “C’mon,” he said, turning his neck to meet her eyes, “You need to live a little.” Sora allowed him to tug her down the boardwalk and towards the old courthouse. If the twisted, bloody smiles of the clowns weren’t enough to double the young girl’s heart rate, the shrill, primal screams spilling out into the October air were.
If the twitch of Jyou’s hand on her wrist was any indication, he was becoming apprehensive as well. His smile never wavered, nor did his grip on her. Before Sora could decide whether or not to kindly remove his fingers, the pair were shoved in a group of Love Live! Idols and various farm animals. “Welcome to the House of Terror!” gritted the clown from before, his pungent odor testing the limits of the young girl’s gag reflex. His mouth opened once more, but whatever advice he was about to give them was drowned out by the screeching of the entrance erupting wildly on its hinges.
“Right this way, my pretties.” an old woman crooned from the building, voice reminiscent of branches scratching against a window. Sora shivered, but allowed Jyou and some stranger dressed as a rooster to push her along.
Her tension eased once the group left the corrupt clown outside. The hallway they entered was eerie, a black light illuminating the fabric of Jyou’s costume. One of the school idols screamed as an arm reached out from behind a blood-splattered curtain to caress her. Sora pressed herself closer to her companion. Wordlessly, his fingers reached down to grab her own, giving her palm what Sora assumed was supposed to be a reassuring squeeze. If his hands hadn’t of been so sweaty, she might have been comforted.
The black sheets opened into a large room filled to the brim with children. Dismembered baby dolls littered the ground, limbs hanging from the rafters above. The Chosen of Love smoothed down her pleated skirt, eyes avoiding the creature in the corner. A young girl, no older that thirteen, sat alone on the far side of the room. Dressed in a simple white gown, the child chanting something, but her voice was so low and haunting that Sora couldn’t make it out. Water dripped from her dark hair, and her lips were painted sea-sickening blue.
A couple dressed as cows made a run for the door on the other end of the room, utters quaking in fear. Their hooves slipped on a severed baby arm, and their spots went flying. Jyou tensed, the crunch he heard after the fall not boding well with his first-aid training. Sora looked around helplessly as the pair of utters still hadn’t gotten back up. ‘Oh, gods.’ she thought, stomach anxiously twisting itself into knots.
The group’s guide had suddenly disappeared.
“D-Did you just make that noise?” Jyou whispered into her ear. For a second, the red-haired girl had to convince herself that the shiver she felt was a result from the chilly atmosphere, and not the fact that his lips had been that close to her skin.
In all honesty, her heart had been pounding too loudly for her to hear much of anything, but with one look at the soulless girl in the corner, she turned towards Jyou. “No, but let’s get out of here!”
Jumping over the up-turned cows and various idols, the pair ran towards the rickety door. Apparently, the staff on the other side had no idea they were expecting the next group of people to terrorize, as the bloody nurses and doctors still engaged in an intense lip lock.
“G- Gomen'nasai.” Jyou stuttered, a flush reaching his hair line. His little devil companion felt as uncomfortable as he looked. “Um,” the polyester doctor called out, “this room is occupied. Sora made haste to drag her and Jyou away from the hormonal teenagers before he could give them The Talk. He attempted the same thing with the younger kids a few months prior, and nearly cried when they were the ones to correct him.
Red light filtered through the hazy hospital room, but Sora recognized an exit when she saw one. “This way, Jyou-senpai!” she yelled, tugging his arm behind her.
The pair burst into the warm October night, panting and sweating. It took several minutes for the pair to catch their breaths and ever longer to notice their mischievous friends staring at them.
Takeru’s laughter startled Sora, her hand flying up as if to hold her heart in her chest. As her orange eyes rose to meet mahogany, she found herself temporarily blinded by the flash of a camera. “Hmm,” Hikari mused, “this one may be cute enough to develop.”
“That’s not the only thing that’s developing.” the younger, annoying, traitorous vampire giggled out. His basketball reflexes proved useful as he dodged an attack from the little devil, pulling an amused Wizardmon behind him. “See you love birds later!” he called out cheekily, admiring his own pun.
“Get back here, you guys!”
Jyou laughed quietly beside her, the hood of his costume bunching around his shoulders. “Ah, just let them have their fun. Besides, I’m pretty sure that sound I heard was the growl of your stomach.”
Fingers still intertwined; Sora allowed her senpai to tug her towards the tents of food. On the way down, her eye caught Mimi’s. In a strange way, the well-placed wink and sly smile on her friend’s face seemed to be a cue of sorts., and Sora tightened her grip on Jyou’s hand.
“Hey, Jyou-san, how do you feel about splitting some ujikintoki?”

A/B/O Roles - Karasuno
Tumblr media
(Please note that this post is based off of my personal opinions and bias. If you think that someone I put as an omega is an alpha (or any other switch) that’s more than okay, I’ve just been reading too much A/B/O recently and needed to write this.)
Sawamura Daichi - Alpha
Mature and patient dad with a temper that could shut down a major highway? Alpha. Definitely an alpha. Not only an alpha, but an obvious one. Maybe not in terms of aggressiveness or an innate need to peacock himself around when other alphas are present, but this man walks into a room and the energy he exudes just screams alpha.
Sugawara Koshi - Alpha
Yes, Suga is mom of the team, which did slightly factor into this decision. That being said, canonically Suga is known to be extremely perceptive and proud, two traits I heavily associate with an alpha. He strikes me as someone on the weaker side, an alpha who is often mistaken for a beta, until he gets pissed at least.
Azumane Asahi - Omega
I honestly don’t feel like this needs much of an explanation. The man is known for being a literal puppy with a glass heart. Physically his is intimidating, he no doubt gets mistaken for an alpha on and off the court, but if you talk to him for any more than five seconds you’d know this boy is an omega.
Ennoshita Chikara - Beta
I love this man more than life itself and he truly is the best replacement for Daichi, but he’s not an alpha. Ennoshita is one of those people who has traits that fit in both sides of the spectrum well enough to make him beta, which I actually think would give him an advantage, as he wouldn’t be considered a threat to either side of the spectrum, increasing his natural charisma.
Kinoshita Hisashi - Omega
Unfortunately we do not get to learn much about this lovely man, a fact I find truly sad as he is a bean. However, from what I’ve read up about him, he definitely strikes me as an omega. Major self confidence issues with a bit of a sassy streak equals me dying on this rock. He probably appears to be more of a beta to the outside world, his level of comfort with the second year squad hiding his omega tendencies, but it’s all just an accidental act that those who know him can see through easily.
Narita Kazuhito - Beta
We know next to nothing about this man and honestly, I feel like the reason for that is because most of his personality traits fall in the middle of the field. He’s a necessary neutral zone for the wild mood-swings that is the Karasuno team, making him the perfect example of a rather obvious beta.
Nishinoya Yu - Alpha
I mean...Do I really need to explain this? Impulsive, excitable, loud, likes being called senpai, temperamental, caring, mildly violent, likes to be called senpai, fiercely loyal and protective of his people, a professional simp, likes to be called senpai. This man is the most obvious alpha to ever alpha and I will die on this rock.
Tanaka Ryunosuke - Beta
I am definitely going to get some slack for this one, especially with how sure I am that Noya is an alpha, but I honestly just don’t get those vibes from Tanaka. He tries almost too hard to be a badass, which leaves me to believe he’s overcompensation for something (not that he needs to because there’s nothing wrong with being a beta and this man is best boy no matter what his role might be). He definitely tries to hide his role as often as possible, only close friends knowing that he isn’t an alpha.
Kageyama Tobio - Alpha
Kageyama is an alpha who has been recognized since birth. He’s never had to fight for his role on top, the world just kinda handed it to him (it also helps that the only other alpha he had to compete with before high school was Iwazumi but it’s fine). Of course, being on a team with other alpha’s has helped him learn some respect, but he naturally falls into place at the top of the food chain and its obvious to everyone around him what he is.
Hinata Shoyo - Omega
Sunshine boy is an omega, but not for the basic reason that his is sunshine boy. First off, Hinata’s size and inexperience is geared to make him the underdog, a role naturally occupied by an omega. However, his overly caring nature and ability to make friends with even the most overbearing personalities is what cements him in this role for me. He is probably mistaken for a beta, maybe even an alpha, when he’s playing. However, anyone who meets him off the court can see the bright, jovial nature that can only reside in an omega.
Yamaguchi Tadashi - Omega
Submissive, soft-spoken, insecure bean, I’m sure no one is surprised at his role. Yamaguchi embodies all of the stereotypical omega traits found within the A/B/O universe to a bit of an extreme extent. While most of the teams omegas’ natural athleticism tends to hide their role, Yamaguchi is one of those people who just screams omega.
 Tsukishima Kei - Alpha
Tsuki is definitely an alpha, but he’s a broken alpha. All the shit that went down in his past, as well as being considered inferior to someone like Hinata (an alpha being lower on the totem pole than an omega with no experience) kills him. He definitely doesn’t always exude alpha energy, most probably assuming his a beta due to his disinterest in most things. However, whenever he gets serious the alpha energy comes out in full force.

Songs for the Heartbroken: That’s What You Get
AO3
ff.net
Chapter 1.
"It is a pleasure to meet you, Itachi-san". I said in the clearest voice I could manage at four.
Granted that meeting the heir to the Uchiha leadership was nerve racking, what with every eye in the room watching, but I for one felt quite proud of myself for not screwing up. Itachi on the other hand, did not look impressed in the least; in fact he seemed to not care whether I was there or not. I rose from my greeting and faced him, summoning the brightest smile in my repertoire and hoping it would make a better impression on him. It could have, but if I am completely honest, I have no idea if it did.
His expression did not change, and his expression, though not hostile, was not of an inviting nature either. We looked very much alike; the Uchiha's black eyes and raven hair, and the fierce but delicate factions were present in us both. Anyone unfamiliar with our clan would have thought us siblings instead of far removed cousins.
"The pleasure is mine, Akane-san. Shisui-senpai would not stop talking about your taijutsu skills. It is an honor to finally meet the person behind that praise."
The bow that followed was even deeper than mine, and his overly formal speech and compliments had me blushing like the four year old I was. Not because of the compliment itself, but because it was a four year old like myself who had spoken like that. I was suddenly aware of how far behind him I was, not only skill wise, but also when it came to education and manners. I felt inferior, ignorant, and I did not like it one bit. Shisui must have seen this, because when I failed to answer, he squeezed my shoulder.
"I am no master, Itachi-san. But I will continue to train to make sure, one day I am worthy of that praise".
The need to catch up with him grew with every second, If the heir of the Uchiha out of all clans, was humble enough to compliment others, in spite of his prodigy status, then the least I could do was live up to it. I would call it a friendly rivalry, a motivation of sorts that would help me improve marginally, even if surpassing Itachi was out of the question. I would make my brother and my clan proud; even if it meant constantly comparing myself to genius and being thoroughly disappointed every time, I would still do it.
Itachi didn't seem to be moved by my response and just nodded politely before moving o to speak with other members of the clan. His birthday had been too big an event for his low profile personality, but apparently there were things you couldn't escape when your father was the head of the Uchiha.
Their living room was packed with clan members and some of the Konoha aristocracy. Clan heads from the main families in the village, dignitaries and even civilian authorities had come; not to celebrate Itachi though, no. They had all come seeking an alliance with one of the founding clans of the village. They either wanted to do business, politics or marry a member of their clan into the Uchiha to create alliances among clans. More than once, Shisui had to intervene when someone had mistaken me for a career bride. My brother could sweet talk a country into going to war if he wanted to I swear, and it was that ability of his that prevented any of the guests from being offended by the rejection. I am a hundred percent sure I would have caused more than one inter clan incident had the situation been left in my care.
"You do not seem to be enjoying yourself". I turned to find the birthday boy trying to avoid attention in a dark corner behind me. he wasn't outright hiding, but he wasn't trying to interact with his guests either.
"I believe I could be making myself more useful in a training ground, these people have no interest in me once they realize I am not for sale, and neither do you." Formal talk had always been a hassle to me, it was only part of an act, a mannerism used to fake respect when talking to people who hadn't earned it.
Itachi seemed to notice my aversion to crowds right away, but made no comment on it; probably out of consideration.
"That would make two of us, believe me, Akane-san, when I say these people are not here to see me either."
He was scanning the room from his spot in the corner, and I felt the urge to do the same. No one was paying attention to us, the high society of Konohagakure no Sato was much too concerned with politics and making alliances to notice two kids standing quietly in a corner.
"How would you like to come to one of the training grounds with me, Itachi-san? I feel like our time could be used in better ways than this, and I do not think we will be missed here either."
My brother had disappeared, probably gone home; and the party was quite sober and kind of boring. As expected from a clan head actually. This was not a celebration for Itachi, it was an opportunity for his parents to do politics.
"I would very much like that. But will you not be uncomfortable wearing a kimono, Akane-san?" Said the boy as he guided me out of the living room, and into one of the many hallways of the Uchiha household.
I stood there as Itachi went into his room to get his gear, since it would be improper to be found together in his room. Not that we could do anything remotely sexual at the age of four, but clan people could be extremely conservative like that. In fact, if we were to be seen together too often or for extended periods of time, it was most likely for a marriage contract to be put in place.
"I will be fine, Itachi-san. My brother makes me train in a kimono from time to time to get me used to it. He says that if I were to be attacked, the enemy would not wait for me to change clothes."
We made our way to the back door and out the veranda. We managed to slip by unnoticed by some guests that were smoking in the back yard, and with an ease that seemed almost funny, escaped the crowd gathered in the Uchiha main house. The compound was as lively as ever, the main street still buzzing with the energy of business and the eventual visit from non-Uchiha customers. A few congratulated Itachi on his birthday, mostly tea house owners and dango stools shopkeepers; who also made promises of free food and sweets as a present on that special ocation. Thankfully we made it to the compound's training grounds without attracting too much attention to ourselves.
"Would you rather we practice chakra control, taijutsu or target practice, Akane-san?" His voice pulled me back from my daydreaming. I had been wondering how long would it take for somebody to come looking for us. I for one had only Shisui to worry about, but Itachi had the entire clan to think of; so either someone would come looking within the first half hour or not at all.
"My taijutsu and weapon handling skills are competent; my chakra control on the other hand, is mediocre at best." I answered turning to him.
I wasn't ashamed of my shortcomings, I simply wanted to work hard and stop them from becoming a liability. Even at the tender age of four, two mindsets had been drilled into me: my brother's hard working nature, and the clan's idea of self improvement and greed for power. I had no intention to do anything rash or radical with the power I gained, mind you, but my pride would not allow me to become anything but exceptional.
"I could help you with that if you want to; chakra control is one of my strengths. I have even started working on genjutsu."
Of course he had started practicing his genjutsu already; his status as a prodigy was well founded. He, at four, had the chakra control of a genin twice his age. I nodded once and sat cross legged on the training ground floor, motioning him to do the same.
"I have been attempting to do the leaf exercise, but for some reason I can't maintain it for more than a couple of seconds." I explained, taking a leaf from the ground and sticking it to my forehead.
It stayed there at first, shaking a bit as I frowned in concentration. I only relaxed when after a few seconds, the leaf fell from its place in my forehead and onto my lap. During my pitiful demonstration of chakra control, Itachi sat still and completely silent across me. I didn't dare look up, knowing this must have been such a disgrace in the heir's eyes. An Uchiha that could not master the leaf exercise was as good as a civilian.
"There seems to be something wrong at a medical level, Akane-san. Have you had your first medical examination done yet?" I shook my head no, it was one of the many options I had considered. It was actually the most plausible one, since there was no way I could know if there was something wrong with me.
I suspected my brother did know what was wrong, but didn't tell me to spare my feelings. Shisui had already awakened the sharingan, and made it a habit to use it on me every time I practiced chakra control. Another thing that clued me on the fact that Shisui knew what was wrong was his incredible amount of patience. Every time he gave me different pieces of advice and every time he looked at me with the exact same expression he wore when faced with some particularly difficult challenge.
"I don't think you will ever be able to manage ninjutsu or genjutsu, Akane-san. If there is something wrong with your coils, then I don't see how you could. The fact that you managed to make it this far is impressive. What I would like to know is if your family is aware of this, why have they not informed the elders?"
My mind was racing, Shisui could be the only one who knew if something was wrong with my coils since my grandparents had never awoken the sharingan, in fact they had never been shinobi in the first place. But why hadn't he said anything? Why hadn't he pushed for a medical check to be done on me? this would definitively have affected my shinobi carreer should it get out; I would have been benched before I even got started and I would have been made into a career bride just like my oba-chan wanted.
"My brother wouldn't have wanted to shatter my dreams of becoming a kunoichi, but if anybody knows then that's him."
I sighed and turned to watch the sun set on the west side of Konoha. Would I let this stop me? could I still become a shinobi, even if everything was pointing the other way? Even if my body prevented me from doing so? How would I make it past the medical checkup before entering the academy without the elders being notified? An Uchiha with malfunctioning chakra coils was enough of a disgrace, would they even risk sending me to the academy if there existed the faintest possibility that I would bring shame to the Uchiha name?
"You can still become a kunoichi, you are aware of that, aren't you?" my body didn't move, but I did glance at my companion from the corner of my eye. "I will not tell the elders, and I could put the medic on a slight genjutsu should it come to that. You would have to be able to manage the academy jutsu in order to raise no suspicion though"
I was convinced Itachi must have had a reason for wanting to help me; but right then nothing seemed to come to mind. I would have to tell Shisui about everything of course, I would not be lying to my brother any time soon. I never had and I never would. I also needed him to help me train, wich to be honest was the main reason I didn't want to keep him in the dark; that, and the fact that he probably already knew.
"I will have to tell my brother."
"Tell me what, Akane-chan?"
I nearly jumped out of my skin when Shisui's voice sounded behind me. Itachi on the other hand, did not seem affected in the least by his sudden appearance. Before I could say anything, the boy in front of me started to explain for me.
The two males stared at each other in silence for a while; Shisui seemed to be attempting to make out the heirs reasons for helping me. He seemed to be under the impression that if given enough time, Itachi would betray me. If there was something my brother put before everything else, that was me.
"You do realize my sister will be forced into an arranged marriage should someone find out her chakra system is compromised?" Itachi just nodded and attempted to hold my brother's gaze with a courage I didn't think he was capable of. Shisui was scary when he was this serious. "I will not have her reduced to a glorified housewife, to an object for child bearing if she does not want to. I will do anything in my power to make her wish come true, do I make myself clear?"Once again the Uchiha heir nodded, and assured my brother that he would provide as much support as he could.
But what I never knew and Shisui seemed to already have figured out, was why.
Itachi had clearly been serious when he promised to aid my progress; because the very next morning, as I was going through my stretches, he jumped over the fence and made his way over to the veranda. He took a seat and watched me go through every move, waiting patiently for me to be done. I was not entirely surprised when I managed to spot him, choosing to finish my workout before acknowledging his presence. He didn't seem to be judging my choice of exercise, but simply analyzing it, storing the information for later use.
"I didn't think you would actually come see me at five am this morning. Looks like I underestimated you, Itachi-san." I said when the last set was over and done with.
I walked over to the veranda, where he was sitting; beside him a little tea table had been set, with a teapot was lazily steaming on it. Shisui could have been the only one to set it there, since our grandparents wouldn't be up for another hour.
"I said I would help your brother with overseeing your training, and I neither like avoiding a senpai's request, not I make a habit out of lying; so that is exactly what I intend to do." Answered my new training partner, as he poured us both a cup of green tea.
Even if it was still quite early, I could tell it was going to be a chilly day, the old hand-me-down shinobi sandals my brother had given me were doing little to keep my feet warm; and the chill crawling up my yukata every now and then was getting quite uncomfortable.
"You should probably get different clothes to train in, Akane-san. A yukata is most certainly going to get in your way."
I smiled down at the navy material covering my legs. It was old, in fact you could see yhe years of wear from how much the silver floral pattern had faded. It had been a gift from my grandma, and to her horror, I had loved it so much it would be the only thing I'd wear for the longest time; even to train in. the fabric was smoothed out from use and had stretched in places that made it look oversized if worn for something other than working out.
"Yeah, I know. But it's been with me for so long, I feel kind of bad getting rid of it." I said while patting off some shards of grass before kneeling on Itachi's other side. He handed me a cup before taking his own.
"I can see why, it looks to me as if it used to be quite the garment. Whoever gave it to you must have spent a considerable amount of money on it." I smiled lightly and took a sip out of my cup.
"That's the thing, my oba-chan made it herself."
We didn't speak after that; we finished our tea in silence before making our way to the centre of the yard and started our new training routine. That was the first of a long series of encounters, in which I would put my future in Uchiha Itachi's hands.

Senpai!!!! May I request a gaming evening with the warlords and Sasuke either always winning or losing? Idc which game 😘😘😘 i love u
@colivara The possibilities for this tickled me. I have a mind for a certain game that was driving my family a little mad this last holiday season. I hope you enjoy my little musing.
---
Writer: In a wormhole far far away... oh no sorry hang on a minute I'm getting my tales messed up with some other long popular saga. Clears throat. That’s better, now where was I? Oh yes.
---
Azuchi castle had been a hive of activity all day. News travelled fast around the servants that they were to play host to some visiting warlords. No one had expected it to be these warlords though.
“I fail to see the benefit to being here.” Shingen muttered as he pushed around a cube of bean jelly on his plate.
“I agree.” Agreed Yukimura who was sitting next to him in the audience chamber.
“Feel free to leave at any point.” Ieyasu wasn’t exactly pleased to see the Tiger of Kai or his little puppy. In fact, he was practically bristling.
“I think I might stay here forever.” Shingen heard the young warlords remark and decided to meet it with a teasing joke. He made a show of popping the sweet bean jelly into his mouth smiling as he looked over at the enemy.
“Over my dead body.” Hideyoshi called out. He was even less pleased. The presence of so many of the enemy in one place was one thing, but they were inside the castle right now. Lord Nobunaga could be in danger.
“That can be arranged.” Kenshin’s icy tone cut through the already tense atmosphere. his hand twitching on the hilt of his blade.
Nobunaga and Mitsuhide were sipping sake watching the verbal tennis match unfold. Neither said anything to anyone else except occasionally to each other. Masamune who had been helping the staff in the kitchen arrived at this point with a platter of food. Mitsunari had his nose in a book sitting like a rather cute, all be it oblivious, statue by Ieyasu.
“Lord Kenshin!...”  Sasuke called out putting himself in front of the blade happy warlord halting his advance. “My Lords, I apologise for my late arrival. I see you were able to remain entertained.”
“That is one way to put it.” Yukimura crossed his arms and leaned back against the wall.
“I suppose there is a reason you called us all here ninja?” Nobunaga addressed the one that was responsible for that note on his desk resulting in this pantomime in his castle.
“Yes. I was talking to Mc and we both discovered that we were part of extracurricular games groups in school.”
“Extra Kur-ick-u-er?” Mitsunari attempted to repeat the new foreign-sounding word. Ieyasu had the strategists glasses in his hand so Mitsunari looked a little like he was coming around from a trance as he adjusted to the world.
“Sounds interesting.” Masa joined the group smiling.
“Sounds like an illness.” Ieyasu stated flatly.
“Oh if it’s an ailment Lord Ieyasu is sure to find a cure. He is a very gifted healer.”
“Mitsunari?”
“Yes, Lord Ieyasu?”
“Shut up.”
---
After a short while of explaining things to the gathered warlords, and dropping in the fact that Mc looked really happy with the idea that they were all going to have a games night together. All of the warlords in assembly suddenly became a lot calmer and decided to choose a game they liked the look of.
Sasuke had spent a great deal of time working with Mc to try to recreate at least a few games. It had been fun sourcing the materials and then attempting to make everything as close as they could to the modern versions.
There was Battleships which was left resembling the original game. The only difference was the ships. The ships they were using were modelled on Pirate and the Portuguese trade ships.
Monopoly was created and adjusted. The areas were names of domains, there were tea houses instead of hotels. Community chest cards became cards from the Emporer and the cards of Chance became fate and fortune cards. The figures were a little different too there was the usual dog, cat and boat. But the rest were a ground spike, a katana, a horse, a cooking pot and a Ladle. The money was different coloured dried beans.
Cluedo was changed so it became rooms around the castle. The players were just coloured figures. The weapons had minor tweaks for historical understanding but was otherwise left.
And there was one surprise finishing game that was perhaps the easiest to recreate. Pictionary.
Sasuke made his way around each group of warlords explained the rules and how to play each game and then joined them for a few games on each.
---
“There is no way you can keep finding them like that!” Yukimura exclaimed as Sasuke once more made a direct hit on one of his boats.
“I’m sorry but the board is basically a grid in a series of rather simple mathematical equations you can...” Sasuke began to explain how it could be done unaware of the glazed over expression Yuki was making trying to keep up with what he was being told.
“Ok ok I get it YOU can do it. why don’t you just move on the next guys huh?” Yuki gave Sasuke a little push as he tried to get him to move. After that, he sat and stared that the board in silence as if trying to figure it out.
---
“How did you managed to buy up all that domain?” Ieyasu asked looking at the three slots that should have been the prime locations that included Mayfair.
“It is luck with the dice and knowledge of what to buy where.” Sasuke pushed his glasses back on his nose as he replied devoid of expression even if his heart felt like it was going wild in his chest speaking to his idol.
“But the rest of the teahouses are all scattered what makes those three up there so important?” Masa looks down at the board a little confused. He understood gaining territory and how it could affect others but this game had no war it was all money... well beans.
“I’m afraid if I explained to greatly I might risk upsetting the balance of the game in the future.” Sasuke looked away from the game as he tried to think how best to continue but his thoughts were interrupted.
“Hey don't just put your hand in the coin purse!” Ieyasu cried out and smacked the back of Masa’s hand as he reached for the coin purse that was acting as the bank that held all the beans.
“What? I passed that space there that means I get 10 beans.”
“Yes, but you can’t just go helping yourself.” Ieyasu chastized his friend before becoming aware that he had just smacked him over a stupid future game and became uncomfortably embarrassed about it. “I can’t believe you decided to be the Ladle that is such a dumb piece.”
“Hey, Man don’t underestimate the power of a good ladle.”
---
“Why is there no dungeon on this board?” Kenshin asked as he looked over the rooms once more.
“Probably because the Princess might play it. Do you really expect an Angel like her to walk around a dungeon in a game?” Shingen scoffed as he drank from his sake cup waiting for his turn on the board.
“I don’t see what is wrong with it. Dungeons in Kasugayama are practically guest rooms.” Kenshin said proudly. In his opinion, no other castle could reach the level of his beloved home.
“Funny that’s what Mitsuhide calls ours.” Nobunaga chuckled as he finished moving his figure on the board. “Mitsunari exactly what are you doing?”
“Oh, I’m terribly sorry I was just reading the cards I had closer.” Mitsunari had been leaning over engrossed in reading and rereading the details on each card, nearly missing his turn.
“Well, it’s your turn.”
“Can I make a guess without rolling and moving anywhere? I’m gonna say it was Mitsuhide in the Tenshu with a rifle.” Mitsunari beamed brightly as he made a guess.
“Why exactly am I always the prime suspect?” Mitsuhide asked acting hurt by the accusation.
“Probably because out of all of us you are the most suspicious.” Hideyoshi replied back as fast as ever.
“Why Hideyoshi I had no idea you thought so much about me. I’m sorry to inform you though I have plans later this evening so I won’t be available for any little trysts.” Mitsuhide smiled meaningfully in such a way as to purposefully give the wrong impression whilst leaving just enough confusion so he could innocently wriggle free of any repercussions.
“Well, tha- what tryst!?” Hideyoshi blushed furiously as he glared at the castle kitsune.
---
Games night was a success. well, a success in the sense that both sets of enemy warlords had gathered and remained in the same room as each other without it resulting in a bloodbath.
“So who wins?” Masa called out to Sasuke as all the games came to an end.
“Wins?” Sasuke felt a little like he had missed part of a conversation. In the future, they had very different ideas about games.
That wasn't to say people didn’t win or lose but it was not something that typically came to the end of the night where you declared an overall winner in order to prevent a very real declaration of war.
“Yeah, there has to be a winner or else what is the point?” Masa nodded and several of the other warlords agreed.
“Well, I do have one final game.” Sasuke picked up the last box of games. “What you do is...”
---
Mc came into the audience chamber after the warlords had all made their way to rooms for the night in the castle. Breakfast in the morning was going to be fun. Moving to Sasuke’s side she started to gather the various parts to games and returned them to the boxes.
Sasuke was standing there hardly moving at all. for a second or two Mc considered the possibility that he had somehow fallen asleep whilst standing. But she could see him blinking behind his glasses.
“Er... Sasuke?”
“Oh! Mc.” Sasuke blinked several times as if trying to regain focus on her.
“Are you ok?” Mc asked still a little concerned for her friend.
“Yes yes, I’m fine. Thanks for helping with the cleanup.”
“No problem. So how did it go? Did you win any of the games?” She happily asked as she stacked the boxes at the side of the room out of the way.
“Oh erm no not exactly.”
“Oh... that’s a shame.” Mc looked as if she was thinking about something before continuing. “Still, I know how competitive the guys can get so its probably really difficult to win against them even with brand new games. Better luck next time huh?” Sasuke silently nodded he wasn’t trying to ignore her he was just preoccupied right now. “I’m going to go to the kitchen and see if there is some onigiri or something are you coming?” Mc walked to the door and stopped waiting for his reply.
“Yes. I’ll be there in a minute.” Satisfied with that she left in search of food.
---
It was during clean up that Sasuke had made a discovery. In his hands, he currently held not an autograph but a drawing made by his idol. it had missed being torn up after that argument broke out about it looking nothing like what it was supposed to be.
He might not have “won” any of the games showcased tonight but at this moment in time, Sasuke felt like he was holding in his hand the grand prize of the evening.

The Cats' and The Owls' Day Before the Tournament - Haikyuu!! Light Novel Vol. 9: Spring High Inside Story
So I’ve wanted to try doing a proper translation as a practice for quite some time, and I finally made myself work on another chapter. Man, what an experience.
The title is self-explanatory. The story is about the cats’ and the owls’ antics. Translation under the cut.
Toothbrush, towel, I guess I should bring one more T shirt... As Yamamoto Taketora confirms his packed items, the door to his room bursts open. "Not fair, not fair, not fair! I want to stay in a hotel too!" He turns around and his sister Akane is at the corridor with her hands on her hips. "Hey, don't open the door without knocking!" "It's a hotel at the city center, right? It's unfair that only onii-chan will stay there. Unfair onii! Aahhh, I want to stay there too... Luxurious 5 star hotel! Suite room! Bar with a night view!" "Y, you sure barge in with a lot of questions... I'm not staying at such a place, though!" It's true that he won't spend the night at home for the next few nights, but he'll only be staying at a lodging near the venue for Spring High in order to prepare for it. That's it. There's no such thing as a bar with a night view. But his sister doesn't listen and keeps on grumbling, earning a shout from their mom, "Hey, so noisy!", and his sister gets all gloomy. Your brother has a national tournament tomorrow, don't you care about that at all... Taketora is slightly upset and scowls at his sister. "Anyway, what bar are you talking about, you middle schooler. You'll be kicked out straight away." "Hmph, I will be with Alisa-chan, so there shouldn't be a problem." She answers without missing a beat as she enters his room. "Wh, what..." He would love it if she doesn't look around his room as she pleases, but if he words it poorly she'll just say things like, "Is there something that you don't want me to find?” and look around even more, so he doesn't say anything. Lately it seems like his words and his sister doesn't get along well. "Well, if it's Lev's sister I think she'll blend in just fine..." If he scolds her directly, he'll just end up being disliked, so he just halfheartedly replies and shows her the website of a high class hotel. "Alright, but here, look at the reality. This is the cost for a suite room." "Eh, where, where?" ".... 131,652 yen, tax included? What's this, the cost for 1 month?" "Get real! Listen, this is the cost for one night." "Eh!? For one night it's 131,652 yen with tax!? 130,000 yen... How many megaphones can I buy with that..." She makes a girly gesture of covering her mouth with her tiny hand, but the things she wants is weird. Why does she want megaphones? And anyway isn't one megaphone already enough? Well, but Taketora also thinks that in all of Japan his sister would be the middle school girl that suits a megaphone the most. Akane continues stroking her chin. "I could buy a camera too to analyze the opponents’ play... The one with image stabilization..." "Wish for something more middle school girl-like. Why are you like a middle-aged man. See, put your hand away from your chin, put it away!" Akane gasps and her expression changes. "Girl..." she murmurs. Her eyes that looked like those of an old man's just a moment ago glisten, and her hands, one of which was stroking her chin, clasp in front of her as if doing a prayer. "I want to have girls hangout with Alisa-chan in a high class hotel! I want to eat lots of cute, little cakes! It's so unfair that only onii-chan gets to stay there!" "Sh, she suddenly acts like a girl again.... Like I said, the place where we'll be staying is Matatabi Manor! We'll sleep in a large room together like canned sardines, where it'll only cost each of us less than 4,000 yen per night!" "Sardines...? " At Akane's doubtful expression, Yamamoto shows her the website to the hotel Matatabi. "Here" "..... Eh" The aura of Showa era can be felt from the dimly lit picture of the entrance of Matatabi Manor. As she sees that, Akane falls silent and stands up. Without a word, she briskly exits her brother's room. As he faces the door that closes quietly, Taketora murmurs, "At least say something. Your brother feels lonely, you know...”
"Lyovochka ❤️" Haiba Lev who's just about to leave his home stops when someone calls him.
"Hm?" When he turns around, his sister Alisa stands at the entryway while hugging a pillow for God knows what reason. There's no way she only woke up just now, so why, what on earth is she doing, and so he asks. "What's that?" "You won't be staying home tonight, right? Isn't it better if you bring a pillow? People say that you won't be able to sleep if your pillow changes. Right?" His sister pushes the pillow towards him, but he thinks, I don’t need it. There's no way I need it. Why is there a need for me to bring my own pillow!? In the midst of his confusion, he is forced to hold the pillow. "Eh? Wait... Why? Eh!?" "Of course you need our family photo and mug cup as well, right? Hm, what else... Ah, that's right... " She puts the photo down and skillfully places the mug cup on top of the pillow, then she turns and heads into the living room to get some other stuffs. What, what on earth. On top of all these, she plans to bring more. "Wa, wait, nee-chan! I'm not bringing any of these!" "Eh?" Her long hair swings when Alisa stands up and stops. She looks in wonder as she tilts her head and asks, "Why? When you're on a trip, you will feel more at ease if you have stuffs from home with you, right?" "It's not a trip, and I don't need those." "Then at least bring this. Think of it as me... ", as she says that, she holds out a teddy bear. Lev gets crestfallen and his shoulder slumps. "There's no way I could bring such thing. If the senpais found out what will they say... " "Wh, what!" Alisa staggers and powerlessly tumbles down while holding the teddy bear. "To call it 'such thing'... No way... How cruel... To call my dear Misha 'such thing'.... " Looking down at his sister with her trembling shoulders, Lev can't help but thinks, How troublesome. But even if he thinks of that, if he says unnecessary stuffs it will be even more troublesome. If I’m held to stay back any longer than this, I will be late to practice. And if I’m late, I'll get scolded by Yaku-san... "Ah, my bad, my bad! But I really couldn't bring it. Anyway you'll come and see the match tomorrow, right? See you tomorrow, then!" He puts down the things given to him and rushes out. From behind, he heard his sister wails as if it's their last goodbye, "Lyovochkaaaaa!" How troublesome. Lev lets out a deep sigh and heads to school.
Kozume Kenma glances up from his game and asks, "Why are these two already looking so tired..."
Lev and Taketora who barely make it in time for the practice already look as if they have just finished a match. "Shut up, you won't get it, Kenma! Damn you only child" "That’s right! Kenma-san who's an only child won't get it!" Kenma quickly puts some distance from those two who are upset for some reason and turns his head back to his game. "... Not like I want to know," he murmurs as he thinks How troublesome. Just then shouts can be heard from Taketora and Lev, and he knits his brows.  "From tonight onward we'll be living the ryokan life. Isn't it great, Lev?" "Yes, Taketora-san. Sleeping out is the best!"
For those two, who competes for the ace title and rivals based on Lev’s one-sided claim, to get along like this is unusual. Could life with sisters be really that tough...
From behind the excited Lev, Yaku Morisuke peeks out.
“You! Are you still complaining even though you have such a beautiful sister? How conceited!” Yaku’s low kick lands squarely in Lev’s shin.
“Ouch!”
“I’m so jealous about Lev’s sister!”
“Wai... It hurts! Yaku-san, you’re not making sense!”
Towards Lev who’s running around the small room, Kai Nobuyuki calmly says, “Lev, unexpectedly you bring a lot of stuffs, huh.”
“Eh, is that so? But it’s only this...”, as he checks his bag while avoiding Yaku, his face pales.
“.... There’s a pillow! Since when!?”
Looking at that, Kuroo Tetsurou bursts out laughing, “Bahahahaha! Lace! It has lace pillowcase!”
“That’s not it! My sister just... Ah, it’s not her! This is my mom’s doing. There’s also a letter from her....” With the laced pillow and letter from his mom in his hands, Lev freezes.
“A laced pillow at the national tournament! Bahahahaha!”
“Wait! Please listen to what I say!”
“Oi, Lev! Your mom is a beauty as well, huh!”
“Ah, that’s right! Once we arrive at the ryokan, let’s have a pillow fight!”
“You guys are so loud...”
Nekoma High School who features flexible and tenacious play style with its setter who acts as the brain at its center. In Interhigh, they managed to last until the Top 8. With the arrival of a 194.5 cm large rookie, could they go further in Spring High? The expectation rises.
Tumblr media
Around the same time in Fukuroudani High School gym...
“The first match... It will be in court E, huh? E? .... Court E means... sub-arena?” Bokuto Koutarou flumps cross-legged on the floor as he looks at tomorrow’s schedule. At the same time, he grasps some vague feeling.
“......?”
There’s no way he can actually grasps it with his hand. It’s something that he feels, after all.
When he sees the schedule, some vague feeling starts to loom in his chest, that’s what it feels like. His metaphorical hand quickly grasps it to find out what it is, but he still doesn’t know what it is.
Is it excitement from Spring High which begins tomorrow? Or is it because his physique is off somewhere? Or is it just hunger? ...
Before he could put a name to this slight vague feeling, Konoha Akinori and Sarukui Yamato pop up and take a look at the schedule.
“Sub-arena means it won’t be so noisy, isn’t that great!”
“Eh?” eased by Konoha’s word, his grip is starting to loosen up on the thing he’s been holding.
“Look, there are a lot of people in the main arena, right? Especially on the first day!”
“Eh? Yeah, that’s right!” As Bokuto absentmindedly replies, the metaphorical hand opens completely. Just like a balloon which string has been released from his grip, slowly floating up then disappears, the thing that he tried so hard to grasp is now gone.
If he were to let go of a balloon inside the gymnasium it would surely be stuck on the ceiling, but if it’s a feeling that he lets go then it would just completely disappear.
It was an unease that comes from within Bokuto himself. "Main arena is better...", a childish thing like that. Once he’s caught by such childish thoughts, he even forgets himself.
Somehow, Bokuto himself is not aware of the complexity of how his feeling works, but his teammates are.
Konoha and the others quickly change the conversation topic.
“Anyway, what do you think we’ll have for dinner?”
“Ah, that’s right. Starting tonight we’ll eat at the inn...”
Refreshed that the thing that’s been bothering him is now gone, Bokuto is back to his usual excited self and says, “I wanna eat yakiniku!”
But his teammates are cold.
“If such thing exists I’d want it too.”
“There’s no way we’ll get yakiniku at the inn.”
“We don’t know yet, right?”
“No, it’s obvious!”
“Common sense is important, you know.”
Looking at the senpais who starts bickering while still sitting on the floor, Akaashi Keiji raises his voice, “Practice is starting.”
But his voice goes ignored and Bokuto and the others continue their chat on yakiniku.
“Then let’s just go eat yakiniku first before going to the inn! Problem solved!”
“You sure do things as you please. What are you, a selfish king?”
“When making the inn reservation the dinner would have been included, so you can’t just make changes like that.”
As Akaashi looks at the 3rd years that continue their bickering, he thinks, For Konoha-san and Sarukui-san to ignore it too....
But he doesn’t let it show on his face.
To honestly display one’s displeasure when things do not work out is the trademark of the great ace Bokuto, so he won’t just give up here. This is all still within the range of his expectation.
“.........” Akaashi quietly observes his senpais.
It seems like this yakiniku talk will continue for a while.
The potential held by yakiniku is huge. Yakiniku is like a bundle of possibility. That’s right, this is not a topic that can be ended easily. “Eh, yakiniku? Yakiniku?” the other 3rd years join the conversation. Of course, this is also within his expectation.
As more people gets in the conversation, Bokuto continues to ramble about his theory. “You might say that, but listen! If we eat at the yakiniku place, then eat the meal at the inn, there would be no problem, right?”
“Can you really eat that much?”
“Is your stomach stupid too?”
“That’s why, listen to me!”
Akaashi has already takes into consideration that Bokuto will get heated up, but what he says next is out of his expectation.
“Listen, okay? ‘Meat, meat, rice, meat, meat, rice’, that’s the order when you eat, right? So if you eat the ‘meat, meat’ part at the yakiniku place, then eat the ‘rice’ at the inn, you’ll be able to eat them all, right?”
“..... Wait, I don’t even get what you’re talking about.”
“What kind of mysterious reasoning is that!”
Out of nowhere a figure smoothly approaches the excited 3rd years who are now surrounding Bokuto. It’s their manager, Shirofuku Yukie.
She calmly smiles and says, “I guess I somewhat understand what Bokuto said...”
“.... Seriously?!”
Except for Bokuto, all the guys are taken aback.
Akaashi’s eyes glint, This is it!
Shirofuku-san’s word must have made Bokuto-san feels content. Conversely, the other senpais who are taken aback by her words must now want to end the topic. I have to make use of this distortion.
If I miss this timing, the topic of yakiniku will continue until who knows when. I must end it here...
This thought process takes 0.2 second.
Immediately Akaashi raises his voice to the senpais facing away from him, “Shall we begin practice soon?”
How is it? Is it heard this time?
Behind his poker face, Akaashi explores the possibilities for his next moves and  the following ones. He waits for his senpais reaction.
Will they get up....
“Yeaah!” Bokuto slaps his knees. “Let’s eat yakiniku once we’re hungry!”
He got up!
Following Bokuto, the other senpais get up as well.
“Not going.”
“Go eat on your own.”
Following the cold treatment from his teammates, Bokuto shouts, “What! Once we get our energy back, let’s have a pillow fight tonight! Pillow fight!”
“Not doing it.”
“Do it on your own.”
The quarrel about pillow fight is starting to heat up, but this time all the 3rd years have stood up and is entering the court.
I won!
Without anyone noticing, Akaashi’s chest swells with a little sense of achievement as he quickly runs into the court.
Fukuroudani Academy High School with their national top 5 ace who is supported by the regular members who each has his own strength. How far can they go this year in their battle for the championship? One of the factors that affect their fate is the unpredictable mental condition of their ace.
The fated rival Nekoma High School. And the powerhouse Fukuroudani Academy High School.
They have both battled with Karasuno and are affected by them. Once again, they stand in the Spring High stage.
In their rivalry, their opponents are likely better than them. But Karasuno keep on fighting with all their might, and now here they are.
They both know each other’s strength and weaknesses in detail. Would the chance for this two school to battle it out in an official match, separated only by the net, come?
In the first round 40 schools in total will be sent home from the mens and womens side, and almost another 30 on the second round. How far will these 3 teams go? No one knows yet.

*Alisa’s bear is probably a reference to the 1980 Moscow Olympic mascot. Apparently there was an anime about the mascot.
PS. As always, thanks for reading! I’m still quite new to translating, so let me know if you notice any errors.
PPS. Support the official release! Here’s an Amazon link if you’re interested. I know it’s not translated yet, but the best way to get it licensed is to keep requesting it to the publisher (Viz). I’m so happy when I heard Heroaca light novels are getting licensed. We can get Haikyuu to be licensed too!

Any more thoughts about "Beautiful Thorns"? I personally liked that Shiori wasn't demonized this time.
I’m gonna do a full thing with more thoughts later but I’ll put down what I got on my mind for now. ouo
I, personally, did like Beautiful Thorns but I do get why there are people who don’t like it. The story of Juri, Shiori, and Ruka has been simplified greatly, so if you like it or not depends on if you are ok with/like how the story turned out after simplification.
However I don’t think the story being simplified means theres nothing to look at here, and that we should blow it off as “Saito not understanding Utena again oh hoho”. We shouldn’t do that. Let’s not do that.
So imma talk about Beautiful Thorns aka “Juri you useless lesbian, pls stop hallucinating dead people” and see the different take at the relations between these three characters as well as looking at what we got from this story as a whole. /owo/
(Quick note: I discussed this manga with my friend Fuji so I’ll be mentioning her when repeating what we discussed. \owo/)
Let’s start with Juri and Shiori and how it goes in this version.
Juri falls for Shiori while they’re in middle/high school instead of them being childhood friends. Shiori, in this universe, is the well off pretty girl. Juri is the one who refers to herself as “unlovable” and “ugly” this time. Juri wants this cute girl to notice her but isn’t sure how to go about it until she overhears Shiori saying she thinks fencers are cool like princes. Juri, being the baby gay that she is, goes “GUESS WHO’S GONNA LEARN FENCING, IT IS I” and she learns the fuck outta fencing cause Juri is go big or go home and if fencing is the best way to impress Shiori then you bet your ass she’ll do it! She learns the fuck out of fencing so much she becomes the school’s fencing champion and Shiori does indeed notice her. However, shock and sadness, she’s engaged to another.
That would be Ruka, who I think is also part of the fencing team. So here while Ruka is her senpai, he is also “that motherfucker engaged to Shiori” this time around. Kinda different there lol. Her feelings towards Ruka are jealously and also feeling like he is a standard she can never live up to. I’m gonna touch on this more later down the line cause this falls with the prince thing. So, lets keep going. ouo
Juri is like “aw fuck me” and we get to see the inside of the iconic locket we all know and love and she becomes a sad gay (now in this universe Shiori facing away from the camera in the picture doesn’t. make. much. sense. but idk guess Saito just wanted it to look like the one in the anime). One day, she drops the dang thing and Ruka finds it and is like “lol if u want it back come and catch me” Juri tries to catch up to him but she forgets that Ruka has long ass legs so he gets away.
Now Ruka during all this has fallen in love with Juri, however he realizes that Juri loves Shiori. Unlike anime! Ruka, this Ruka takes this rather well. But he is concerned by Juri’s drive to be a prince cause we all know that being a prince in RGU is a terrible idea overall. I’m gonna talk about Shiori in a moment but first imma quickly cover the part that’s taken from the movie aka the big old life changing moment for all the people involved here.
So Juri is all bummed out cause Ruka took her locket and she’s being sad by a river on a stormy day (cause that’s the BEST time to hang out by the river, when theres a fuckin storm). Then she sees Shiori, who uh, either get pulled into the water by a wave or she fell in I honestly can’t tell but either way Shiori falls into the damn river. Juri is like “iTS PRINCE TIME” and dives in and saves Shiori’s life. But Juri can’t pull herself out due to the current and gets pulled under herself. Ruka comes the fuck in and is like “NOPE LETS NOT” pulling her out to safety and he is pulled under and dies instead.
Now, as mentioned in a convo I had with Fuji, Juri has been outprinced by Ruka. She wanted to be one to impress Shiori with her princelyness but now Ruka has permanently upstaged her in her mind by giving up his life to save another. And this, was on purpose by Ruka. Which I’ll talk about more later. After this happens it seems like Juri follows a path like movie! Juri did. She feels like she still has to compete for Shiori’s heart, and has to keep playing the prince no matter what.
This idea of always being a prince has slowly been messing her up over the years to a point she’s literally seeing things (magic castle bullshit aside), ignoring Shiori, behaving aggressively overprotective towards Shiori (more on that later), and struggling to win fencing matches. This mindset of “being a prince” doesn’t work so great for an adult who hasn’t coped with their guilt/trauma yet. Juri, much like anime Utena, has thrown a lot of her self identity into being a prince and now its harming her quite intensely. I’ll get to the resolution of this a little later but that’s the position we see 36 year old Juri in when the story starts.
Note: I say 36 by adding 20 years to her age she was in the original series in which was 16. Yup.
Now Imma talk about Shiori here.
This Shiori is quite different from previous ones, especially for both of her relationships here. There are more parallels to her movie counterpart to be made due to the nature of the story which is very interesting.
So, for the relationship she has with Juri. It doesn’t seems like Shiori blames Juri for what happened at the river, unlike in the movie where she did and mcfreakin lost it. Even if it wasn’t the smartest thing for Juri to do, Juri did still save her life at the end of the day. That didn’t occur in the movie but I can’t comment too much about the movie’s situation cause theres a lot of ??? in that particular aspect but thats a totally different discussion so moving on. I think there is a part of Shiori that feels guilty about what happened, like Juri nearly died saving her which lead to Ruka’s death. She implies she use to dream about Ruka and ghost! Ruka visiting her tells me that she’s probably also had trouble coping with the tragedy though she’s handling it a lot better then Juri has been.
However what Shiori decides to do is she chose to support Juri, becoming her fencing manager/agent from what seems like high school and well into their adulthood (which I do indeed love oh man). Juri even says that Shiori has been supporting her for quite sometime and is grateful for her support! It seems like Shiori refers to Juri as “my prince” at times cause she figured out doing so made Juri happy, which makes me think she did in fact figure out Juri’s big gay crush on her and might feel the same way but she hasn’t felt like she can tell Juri that yet due to Juri’s um. Problems. And probably her own lingering guilt for Ruka who was engaged to her in the past.
Side note: I think Shiori refers to Juri with the -san suffix here because of her position as her manager/agent. That’s just my guess anyway!
As for Juri’s problems, their relationship has started to hit a big roadblock at the time of the narrative because of said problems reaching their boiling point. It sounds like Juri has become more erratic recently but she’s had certain concerning behaviors before she started really acting oddly.
Judging from what we’ve seen, when guys (or maybe even anyone) that remind her of Ruka get too close to Shiori, Juri suddenly grabs her, pulls her away, and is very overprotective of Shiori around these said guys. We know this isn’t a new thing for Juri to do because right after that happens Shiori says “When you act like that, I just get so…Forget it.” and Shiori even considers becoming a manager/agent for someone else because she’s getting real tired of shit like that. We can even see a bit of Juri’s possessiveness during her duel with ghost! Ruka when she says “I won’t let you have Shiori!”. I imagine maybe Shiori thought Juri’s overprotectiveness and possessiveness was kinda cute when they were 16 and therefore didn’t discourage said behavior but now they are 36, it has longgg ceased to be cute to her anymore so she’s running out of patience for it. However by the end Juri has decided to let go of “becoming a prince” and Shiori was visited by ghost Ruka as well. Now Juri and Shiori can truly move on in life, they can move from harmful roles like princes and princesses that had carried over from their adolescence and instead have relationships as healthy adult.
Shiori, I think has already moved passed what happened back then and was moving towards the future before ghost! Ruka said hello to her in her dreams. She was just waiting for Juri to catch up. \o3o/
As for Shiori’s relationship to Ruka theres a MASSIVE difference here. It seems like, even though they were engaged to be married, Shiori and Ruka didn’t hold romantic feelings for each other. It was just like “welp we’re in an arranged marriage, alrighty. Might as well get along”. I say that due to Ruka’s crush on Juri and it simply didn’t seem like that’s the case by the brief interaction we saw between the two of them.
Judging by her response to his death they were still friends, probably close friends. So that makes Ruka and Shiori the childhood friends here, WILD MAN. Anyways, losing Ruka was probably hard on her. We only see her grieving briefly but I think it’s enough to understand there wasn’t animosity between them at the very least and they were indeed most likely close friends. This tells me that Shiori had probably a close childhood, and seemly supportive, friend that she didn’t grow up to hate which makes a world of difference and why she’s less of a trainwreck in BT. It’s kinda a shame we didn’t see more of their interactions, I’d love to see how this version of Ruka and Shiori talked to each other and such.
There is a lot I like/find interesting about this version of Shiori. However I will say I feel there should have been a little more focus on what Shiori was thinking about all this. I feel like theres some gaps here. Like did she actually figure out that Juri is SUPER gay for her? Like I think so cause of what I said earlier and that Juri can’t hide it very well but we haven’t been given any confirmation for sure as far as I can tell. Plus what did she think of Juri before the accident anyways? Or before that? Like, I feel theres some missing pieces here hm. I’d love to see the pieces filled in but we probably won’t get that so I suppose we’re going without sadly. 8/
Let’s get to Ruka and Shiori now, on the Ruka side of things that is. This Ruka is quite different from the Ruka in the anime. Looks like a major difference between anime Ruka and this one is that anime Ruka HATED Shiori and blamed her for all of the problems she and Juri had and was also very jealous of the fact Juri liked her but not him. BT Ruka on the other hand was childhood friends with Shiori and had been engaged to her when they were children. They were close enough to a point when after he died Shiori is shouting to his body “How could you get yourself killed saving Juri?!” which implies that Ruka doing “princely things” isn’t out of character for him to do and he normally didn’t die doing them and Shiori knew that quite well hence his death was all the more shocking. So he didn’t villianize Shiori for breaking Juri’s heart or anything like that. Instead he wanted both the girl he was in love with AND his childhood friend to be happy. Which is super duper different than anime Ruka cause lets face it, in order to make Ruka be likeable enough to be considered a prince figure this kind of change had to be made. Oh yeah and bonus points for BT Ruka for not committing sexual assault, thank god I probably would have died inside if that occurred and was treated as heroic omg….
Ruka, was indeed a prince this time around. Fuji and I had discussed that being a prince means sacrificing EVERYTHING, including your life. That’s why he didn’t want Juri to go down that road, if she did she’d end up dead. Hence he calls her a goddess instead, unlike princes a goddess is immortal. It’s hard to say what was going on in Ruka’s mind when he saved Juri and if he had maybe drowned willingly? But why? Like Ruka, buddy. I have a lot of questions still. And there isn’t much answers, cause everyone who writes Ruka love to keep him super mysterious it seems like.
At the end of all this, thanks to ghost! Ruka and Revolution Force Ghost Utena, Juri decides to stop trying to live up to this unobtainable prince role and let it go. Clinging onto this role was damaging to her and the people around her. Instead she’ll do things if she wants to and because she loves to, not because it’s a princely thing to do so. Hence “fight Jyuri” (which I can’t decide if Ruka can’t fuckin spell her name or he is making a TERRIBLE pun) being engraved on the locket. Fuji and I talked about how, this story, as well as the one right b4 it, is alll about finding value in yourself and not in toxic impossible roles either in life or relationships.
Ok! Now I’m gonna talk a bit on the fandom’s reaction. Note to all reading this, I’m not here to say you gotta like this chapter or else. I just want to address a little bit of what I’ve seen online since the translation came out. I understand if you dislike how the story was told/simplified, like each to their own. I’m not here to bag on you, like or dislike whatever you want. If you like it, ok! If you don’t, also ok! Cool? Cool.
Anyways, I’ve seen a couple people saying things like, “what. Juri wouldn’t *insert impulsive/intense action here*” or dislike that its not as complex as the anime/saying Saito doesn’t understand Utena.
Well first off this isn’t the same Juri as anime Juri, so probably should think of this as a different version of her or it’s gonna be a bad time. And Juri making impulsive choices due to an outburst of her emotions is quite in character, in fact we see that in episode 7 when she nearly tackles Utena into a fountain trying to yank Utena’s ring off, or that episode when she slaps Anthy in the face for seemingly no reason (I know there is one but she still shouldn’t slap her) like listen. Juri pretends/tries to be calm and collected, she isn’t totally what she appears to be. Like, that’s a pretty frequent theme in Utena y’all. But yeah I find that an odd thing to say something like that for a story thats just a different take of these characters, you don’t gotta like it but don’t say its out of character in the context of the anime because we aren’t in the anime’s context. Like this isn’t the anime and never will be. Speaking of which.
I think the fandom can be a bit, overly critical towards Chiho Saito. Is the original manga good? Eh, I think it’s only ok personally (it really has problems tho man). Is it better then the show? No, the anime is still the best version of Utena out there.
Look. Expecting this manga to have similar complexity that the anime had isn’t a good idea because the anime was written by a group of ppl instead of just one person like this manga was! You’re just not gonna get the same result. A group creation will always been different than a single person creation. Always, always, always.
Listen, this series is over 20 years old and has had a ton of media over the years. You don’t have to like this manga if you don’t want to, or any of the other Utena media if thats how you feel. But, I think people are wrong saying Saito doesn’t understand Utena. She does, maybe differently than you do but what’s done in this manga ties in well as a continuation of Utena’s themes. This manga (both the chapters) is about adulthood and moving on from what occurs during childhood and adolescence. It’s a pretty logical move forward for the series to take, you can’t go back to adolescence. You can only move forward and try find yourself as an adult. And that, strikes me as quite RGU feeling indeed. Even though no one has turned into a car yet, but hey. Maybe next time! \*w*/
Super side note: Why the fuck does Miki look like a 13 year old’s head on a grown man’s body? It’s weird! It’s fucking weird! Like gdi Saito you couldn’t like give Miki a new hairstyle or a mustache or something? Is this a plot point? Did Miki find the eternal youth fountain? I’m concerned. Pls let Miki’s face age he is in his 30s omg.

In a Name: Ch 6
The people @hannah-caitlynn @graysonmalfoy @falltoashes @solsticestorm @bingewatchingmylifegoby @elenoranave @incadinkadoo @melanin—senpai @juuliiaa05
“They’re not likely to take new recruits any time soon.” Nox muttered as soon as he appeared by your side. His gift was gone by now.
You nodded, forcing the young prince from your mind. “There’s the enlistment period, they don’t want spur of the moment volunteers, especially during a war. Probably figure that people are just thinking of glory, or worrying it’s their obligation to join, then quit just as quickly.” “And we’re going to be Einherjar, Asgard’s elite, we have no time for simple infantry.” Nox agreed, his excitement showing. You nodded reluctantly then muttered, “I’m still not sure.” Nox glanced at you knowingly but remained silent. You returned to your shop, opening it early. Several customers came in, clearly annoyed by your absence over days prior. You tried to brush it off, but you could feel your desire to stay working such a thankless job waning. Briefly, you wondered who might take over your position, should you quit. You shrugged inwardly, someone was bound to, it’s not like it was impossible to learn. And people could always travel to neighboring cities or make do with what they had. It was an important job, but not altogether vital to a smaller city. Pithe was not a small city, but if it lacked an apothecary, there would still be others, you concluded. You spent the next couple of weeks considering this decision. How much was it to appease Nox? To give him a chance to fulfill his dream? Was there a part of you that was doing this in some roundabout way to better know the prince? Or perhaps to see if you could once more compete with Sif, to take back the dream you lost at her hands. Or did you actually want to be a warrior, to fulfill the dreams you had had as a child? At night, you would look to your unstrung bow, waiting to be used again. The thought of battle called to you, and yet, you still liked your books. Once more, your thoughts moved to Prince Loki. He clearly liked books and the knowledge from them, but he was more than capable of fighting as a warrior. Did he hold a bloodlust like most Asgardian warriors? Did you? You continued your frequent practice with Nox, always silently mulling over your decision. If you didn’t long for battle in at least some way, you would give up constantly honing your skills, right? Your dagger flew to the side as Nox disarmed you. He held his blade towards your throat, grinning. “Nice job.” You smiled absently. Nox studied you for a moment then groaned loudly. “You weren’t even paying attention!” “Sorry.” You walked over and picked up your blade. “You’ve been so absent lately, what’s wrong?” You shrugged, “Just thinking.” “About?” Nox prompted. “What do I really want? What are my dreams and goals?” You sighed, brushing your hand through your hair. Nox hesitated, studying you. After a moment he grinned, “Well I dream of getting a tall glass of ale from the tavern right now!” Nox’s grin widened as you laughed. He wrapped his arm around your shoulder, the pair of you sheathing your blades. You walked in companionable silence to the tavern. As you neared it, Nox broke the quiet. “Oh hey! This is your first time back since the fight.” You nodded, “I almost forgot.” “Ava has been dying to thank you.” “I’m glad I could help.” “How are things with the fine? It wasn’t too bad was it?” You shrugged, not wanting to bring up Loki’s strange reaction. “I’m doing alright. How are things with Ava?” “We’ve been spending more time together. Now that that pig is no longer bothering her, she’s been willing to talk to me and somewhat give me a chance.” Nox glanced away and sighed heavily. You raised your eyebrow, knowing he had more to say. “I think she simply sees me as a friend, though.” “Well, I’m glad you’re still capable of making those.” You smirked and lightly elbowed his ribs. Nox glared at you, “I don’t want just friends.” “It’ll come, in time, just maybe not with Ava.” Nox rolled his eyes. “Yea, alright. You remind me of the watchers at the orphanage sometimes, and then my commanders at work. In time.” He mocked, then said, “I don’t want to wait.” “Tough. That’s how life works.” “What about you? Is that one guy still stopping at the shop more than necessary?” “One guy?” You repeated with a frown, trying to think of who Nox was referring to. Your mind came up blank, “Other than you, I doubt it.” Nox stuck his tongue out, “No. Thul, remember? Tall, deep brown hair, kinda medium length, err hazel eyes?” “Oh yea! Him. What? What of him?” “He’s on the guard, too. Do you have any idea how much he talks about you?” “Well, seeing as I’m not on the guard and he only visits the shop, no, not really.” “It’s getting annoying, honestly.” Nox muttered. Dating, finding a husband. You hadn’t even considered that with your decision to join the guard. Were there any in town who held your interest? Maybe as a little one at the orphanage, you and Sif might have pined after a number of guys, but none that lasted more than a few weeks at most. You raised an eyebrow in amusement at Nox, “What, you never talk about people you know?” Nox shrugged, “Some of it is alright. Other times though…” He shrugged again. “Not sure how I feel about him.” “Well if he ever seeks my hand in marriage, I’ll be sure to have him go through you first.” You joked with a light smirk. Nox rolled his eyes. Now that Nox described Thul, you remembered the man. You had seen him at the shop before, he always acted pleasant to you; often tipping you far more than necessary. Were you being oblivious to his advances? Nox opened the door to the tavern, allowing you to enter first. Silently scanning the room, your eyes fell upon Ava just as she noticed you. “Apothecary! Err (Y/n)!” She called rushing over to you. Hardly pausing, she threw her arms around you and hugged you fiercely. “Thank you so much.” She added once she pulled away. You beamed down at her, “I’m glad to have helped.” “C’mon, drink is on me.” Ava led you and Nox to the back corner table and motioned for you to sit. “Nox here has been coming in constantly, keeping me informed. Then talk with the other guards about the prince. I hope you didn’t suffer too severely on my behalf, I should have done more.” She trailed off. “Do not fret yourself. It’s simply a fine.” You assured her, “Things easily could have been much worse.” Ava shook her head, “But still. And then when the jailer said the dark prince intervened personally?” “Really, he just gave me a fine, told me not to do it again. You know, fighting in a tavern is bad.” You smiled easily. Ava frowned, “He used his seidr to restrain you. That’s the evil touch, isn’t it?” “See?” Nox interjected, raising his eyebrows. You shook your head, “Truly, Ava, this little worry wart already took me to the healer, I’m perfectly healthy.” Lowering her voice and looking around warily, Ava whispered, “You know the rumours about him though. His seidr, his eyes, he doesn’t even look like the other royals. Guards that have worked with him say he doesn’t ever get cold.” You rolled your eyes, “You know they’re called wives’ tales, someone should remind those men of that nonsense.” Ava scowled, “I’m just worried that you took a fall on my behalf.” Reaching out, you rested your hand on her shoulder and squeezed it lightly, “Believe me, I’m fine. I’m just glad you are too.” “Yes, thanks to you.” Ava finally smiled again, “Right then, what can I get for you?” - Ava ended up giving you a free meal as well. She reminded Nox that he still had to pay, grinning cheekily as she said it. Nearing the end of your meal, Nox got up and left to speak with Ava some more. You stayed at the table, drinking and simply people watching. You were pulled from your silent thoughts by the chair opposite you sliding back across the floor. “Is this seat taken?” A tall brown-haired man with bright hazel eyes asked you. “Err no.” You replied hastily. The man looked surprised, “Really? Wasn’t your boyfriend just sitting there?” You snorted, “Nox? Hardly. And he’s off chasing after the barmaid.” You chuckled lightly. The man grinned, “I’m Thul. You’re (Y/n), the apothecary, right?” Thul asked and you nodded. “Mind if I sit here then?” “Knock yourself out.” “I’m pretty sure you could do the job just fine.” You raised an eyebrow at him, “Oh?” “I heard the way you took out that brute. And to help Ava, brilliant of you.” Thul smiled at you, so admiringly and sincerely that you couldn’t help blush. His smile widened. “You’re one of Pithe’s guards, right?” You asked, trying to take the focus off yourself. “Sure am.” He replied proudly. “All my life. Have to keep the town safe, especially the pretty ones. Seems like the prettiest don’t need saving though.” You frowned, the idle flattery striking badly. “Guard complex?” You asked, unamused. Thul grimaced and covered his face with his hand. “I messed that up, didn’t I?” He groaned. You nodded, smiling in mild amusement. “Badly.” Thul finally moved his hand away and looked back up. “Can I have a second go?” Unable to stop yourself, you laughed, appreciating something of his awkward yet genuineness. “Alright, I suppose.” “So an apothecary who can hold her own in a fight and is not afraid of our realm’s scary prince? No matter where one stands, that’s impressive. And I wasn’t lying about you being beautiful.” “Thank you.” This guy was sweet, and Nox had mentioned him just hours previously. You thought of your internal struggle on whether to join the Einherjar. About not having any lovers to stay in Pithe for. Not that some random man chatting you up at a tavern counted as a lover, but could you find one here? Did you want to? Thul had mentioned the prince, and your thoughts trailed back to Prince Loki. Just as quickly, you forced him from your mind Loki was a prince and beyond your social standing. What’s more, you had no idea where his seemingly idle interest came from. Perhaps he was just trying to be friendly to someone he felt genuinely indebted to. Surely you hadn’t been the first apothecary to aid him though. What if he were looking to simply share your bed? He was known to cause mischief, even if it were something of a scandal that came of it, it might be entertainment he was having troubles finding at the palace. The thought upset you more than you cared to admit. Perhaps you could humor Thul, see what he wanted. Perhaps he was simply being friendly, wished to make a new friend based on Nox’s suggestion. “Anything in particular you need?” You asked, wondering if this was somehow business related. Thul shook his head and leaned back in his chair, “Like I said, I just wanted to talk. I’ve been to your shop a number of times, never had the courage to say more than a few words.” “Well I’m generally busy then, so it’s not as if there’s an opportunity to be had.” “Exactly!” He exclaimed, “Let’s make one.” He looked at your finished plate. “Perhaps tomorrow? I see you’ve eaten already, we could have a meal together.” “I’d like that.” You smiled, genuinely looking forward to it. “Alright then, I’ll see you later. My shift starts soon. Let me know if there’s anything you need.” He stood up and saluted you lightly before walking away. You leaned back in your chair, tilting it back on two legs and watched him go. All in all, he wasn’t bad to look at. He was muscular, well-built really, but not too stocky. And he had an easy smile that you could get used to. You sighed, now what? Once more, you scanned the room but Ava and Nox were nowhere in sight. For a moment you frowned, considering if you should go look for him. Then suddenly you were pulled from your reverie as the town’s bells started to ring out. The soldiers had returned from war: victorious. You and the other tavern patrons leapt to your feet and rushed outside, prepared to greet the returning soldiers. The cheers would boost their morale for any fallen comrades and add to the glory only battle could bring. You ran down the street, hurrying to stand by your shop, knowing you’d be able to see Loki more easily from there. Particularly if he was also looking for you. If nothing else, you figured he would want to tell you about the potion and whether it had worked or not. For a second, you felt a strange amusement that you seemed so familiar with the young prince. Soldiers came parading through the town. Their hands and weapons were raised in victorious celebration. Loud roaring cheers filled the air from soldiers and civilians alike. Everyone in Asgard could appreciate the glory of battle. Even if it was comparatively short and only fought on behalf of an ally. Prince Thor led the soldiers, waving Mjolnir and singing loudly as he walked. Odin followed a short distance behind him, one of the few still on horseback. Everyone dismounted for the return celebration to better interact and mingle with the gathered crowd. Breaking formation was allowed; now was a time for celebration after all. You scanned the army, the warriors three and Sif were dispersed among various ranks, all glowing with joy. Then your gaze fell to Loki and a smile spread across your features. It faltered for a moment when you saw how weary he looked and a nasty bandage wrapped around his arm, but he was smiling and laughing with the others around him, so that was a relief. As soon as you registered that sense of relief, Loki spotted you, eyes lighting up instantly. He pushed against the throng of people surrounding him and ran over to you. “It was amazing!” He yelled, holding the empty vial high. You jumped up and down happily, swept up in the moment. Loki ran over to you and wrapped his arms around your waist. Before you even realized what was happening, he dipped you low, kissing you fiercely, supporting your upper back with one hand while the other remained wrapped around your waist. For only the briefest second did you register the empty vial pressed against your back. Then you completely lost yourself in the kiss, eyes drifting shut as you sank into his soft lips that meshed perfectly against yours. Loki’s and your eyes opened simultaneously as you quickly pulled apart, shocked by what just happened. He opened his mouth to say something when Thor appeared by his side and clapped him on the shoulder. “Loki! Father is looking for us!” Thor clearly hadn’t noticed you. “Come brother, we must hurry home or risk Mother’s wrath. I would rather face a thousand armies than her when she is angered!” Loki had torn his gaze away from you, seemingly forgetting about you entirely. “Of course!” He laughed and beamed at his older brother. Thor dragged him away, still yelling happily about the glory of battle. You tried to straighten yourself, the tingling feeling of Loki’s lips still on yours. Then Thul appeared at your side and yelled your name happily. He picked you up and spun you around. You hadn’t realized that he was that strong and it forced you back to the present. “Asgard is victorious! That meal be damned for tomorrow, please let me buy you a drink now!” “Alright.” You said with a smile, the thrill of Asgard’s victory returning to the forefront of your mind. Thul kissed your cheek sloppily, then grabbed your hand and dragged you back towards the tavern. As he tugged you along, many other couples joined you, running to celebrate. You recognized some of the returning soldiers, as well as Ava and Nox. Inside the tavern, the owner opened a keg and began giving drinks to everyone. One of the local musicians pulled out their instrument and began playing; soon dancers filled the room as the full celebration fell under way. Various soldiers began regaling the room with their heroic feats. The longer the ale poured, the greater the tales became. Thul kept his arm wrapped around your shoulder the entire night, Nox and Ava sitting on your other side. And with each drink and sloppy attempted kiss from Thul, the thought of Loki’s return was pushed further and further from your mind until it was nothing but a distant dreamlike memory. You barely remembered Nox helping you stagger home, giggling and laughing into the early hours of the morning. Miraculously, you made it into bed and quickly lost yourself to the world of dreams. - - Frigga stood at the top of the steps leading into the main gates of the palace, watching for the return of her boys. Guards gathered beside her, aware of the victory bells signaling their return. Then on the horizon, the approaching army appeared: Thor and Loki at the helm. Thor’s arm was wrapped around Loki’s shoulders, laughing as they walked. Frigga frowned when she noticed the bandage wrapped around her younger son’s arm. “My sons!” She called once they were in range, smiling at them. “And my husband.” Loki and Thor stopped at the bottom of the stairs and knelt down before her. The rest of the assembled army knelt down behind them. Odin slowly strode through and made his way up the stairs to Frigga’s waiting arms. “My queen.” Odin murmured softly, then kissed her. He turned around, facing the army. “Warriors, my people, all of you. Once again, we are victorious! By your strength and valor, we have claimed the day and brought home another victory for Asgard and her people. The realms smile upon you all today. We have lost many, and they will be mourned, in time. But for now, feast, make merry, you have earned the glory that only battle can bring. What’s more, you have earned victory!” A deafening roar rang out as the army cheered before him. Palace guards and servants scurried forward, looking to help those who had wounds to attend to, and began leading the others to the dining hall, already preparing a feast. Loki and Thor approached Frigga who embraced them each tightly. “My sons.” She repeated, kissing their foreheads. Then her gaze fell on Loki’s arm and she scowled, “Loki, what happened?” Loki rolled his eyes, “Mother, I’m fine.” Thor laughed. Frigga’s gaze rounded on him, “You boys must always take care of each other, no matter the circumstances.” Thor and Loki’s expressions sobered instantly. “Yes mother.” They mumbled apologetically. Odin laughed, “Do not fret, my wife. The boy should simply have paid closer attention. He will heal. All must learn from their mistakes.” Odin patted Thor’s shoulder, “Come now, my son, let us go celebrate this hard fought victory.” Thor beamed at Odin and hurried after him. Loki grit his teeth and looked down. “Loki.” Frigga started slowly. She rested her hand on his forearm. “Father’s right, I should have paid closer attention.” Loki muttered. He turned to walk away but Frigga stepped in front of him. Frigga raised her eyebrow, “I don’t believe for a second that you weren’t paying attention.” Loki hesitated then looked up at her warily. “Well?” She demanded. “I was in the middle of the fray; I shouldn’t have gotten so close.” Frigga pursed her lips, “My son, do not lie to your mother.” Loki sighed, “I saw Thor moving too far forward, I followed after him. There were a number of swords that we deflected from each other, ultimately I was struck, it was a light blow, but nothing serious.” “So, you didn’t see what ultimately caused it?” Loki shook his head. “Was it Thor’s fault?” “Of course not!” Loki nearly yelled, only softening his voice when Frigga raised her eyebrows reproachfully. “And you were helping your brother? And he you?” Again Loki nodded slowly. “So through no fault of either of yours, you were injured in battle, which is what generally happens when fighting.” Loki twisted his lips, displeased with her logic. “Father said-” Frigga cut him off, “I heard what your father said. Do not berate yourself for being injured in battle. Even if it were your fault, which I highly doubt, it happens to the best of us. Now go get yourself cleaned up with one of the healers, and join your friends with the celebrations.” Loki sighed, “Thank you mother.” He mumbled softly, a tiny smile playing at the corner of his mouth. She patted his cheek and smiled, “Absolutely.” Frigga turned and reentered the palace, leaving Loki standing out on the steps, silently watching her. He winced slightly as he tried rotating his arm, the wound was actually quite deep, before slowly making his way down the many halls to the healing wing. The head healer, Eir, easily patched him up and he was soon able to join in the feasting. However, as usual, he kept his distance from the others. The loud and raucous feasting was of little interest to him, and he still knew many of the assembled eyed his abilities with distrust. Late in the evening, after Fandral had slunk away with a few people, searching for privacy, Loki figured it was acceptable to retreat to his own room and get some sleep. It wasn’t until he had crawled into bed, eyes sinking shut, that he suddenly recalled you: had he really just kissed the apothecary, you, today?

RINHARUWEEK DAY 4: COMPETITION
Prompt: Other sports Author(s): whatever-i-am-in-wonderland Summary: They always find new ways to compete and sometimes it involves their friends. Once it’s only Rin and Haru in the game, Rin has to find the right strategy to make his boyfriend lose...
"We'll see which team is better Samezuka or Iwatobi!"
 "It's on!"
Rin and Haru made their way to put their names and everyone else's too in the laser tag list.
"Do we have to do this every single time we go out?" Sousuke had his hand on his forehead trying to ease the headache that this kind of situations usually gave him.
"I guess we do" Makoto could only smile sympathetic with Sousuke's irritation "They will always find new ways to see who's better than who"
"Ugh couldn't they find simpler ways that don't involve us to show how love sick are they?" Sousuke got a chill down his spine thanks to a memory popping in his mind "and also that doesn't happen in my OWN room"
Makoto chuckle at his friend's reaction "Oh yes Haru told me about that, he locked himself in his bathroom for a whole day after that"
"Rin wouldn't look me at the face for week" Sousuke's expression were obscured by the dreadful memories "And I had nightmares for days too"
"Oi Sousuke! Makoto! Stop flirting and come to get your stuff for the game! Everyone else is already set!" Rin called both of them.
"Rin you better shut up I don't think you want your own man kill you in action" Sousuke hit Rin in the head playfully while grabbing his stuff.
"So how are you suppose to play this?" Nagisa was inspecting his gun.
"Well the logic is simple" Rei fixed his glasses while explaining the game to his friend "You aim for the enemy's chest where the sensor is and if you hit the right spot in the middle the other player is considered dead and goes is out of the game"
"So like this" Nagisa pointed at Rei who's chest lighted up a bright red and let out a rather annoying vibration and loud sound when Nagisa shoot.
"Hey! I'm not the enemy Nagisa!"
He chuckled "Sorry I was just practicing a little bit"
"Momo! Stop shooting at Nitori!" Rin was getting tired of Momo's child behavior, as per usual.
"Rin-sempai help me!" Nitori was running around Rin and Sousuke with Momo behind him shooting.
Rin had enough of it and grabbed Momo's hoodie holding him in the air while Nitori hid behind Sousuke "Shoot Nitori just once more and I'll tell my sister that you tried to steal her underwear the time we went to the beach"
"Rin-sempai you wouldn't do it!" Momo was getting escarde.
"After what I did to you when I found you red handed you think I'm not capable of doing that?".
"I won't do it anymore! I promise! Please don't tell her!" Momo had tears streaming down his cheeks while begging.
Rin let the boy down who runned to Nitori asking for forgiveness while hugging him "I'm sorry Nitori-sempai! Don't let Rin-sempai ruin my chances with Kou".
"Momo let me go!" At the very least this was better than the vibration caused by the shooting.
"Is your team done fooling around?"
Rin turned around from the childish scene in front of him to face a serious Haru. But before he could say anything someone screamed behind him, and he knew that voice very well.
"Nagisa-san! Why?!" Nitori was yelling at Nagisa who busted up laughing at the boys reaction.
"So-rry I wanted to-mhmp  see your reacti-on and prac-tice my aiming" He was trying to hold back his laughter which was pretty hard.
"It's fun isn't it?!" Momo was laughing too
"No It's not stop it you two!"
"My team?" Rin turned back to Haru while grinning "I wouldn't talk if I were you"
Haru rolled his eyes "let's just go already I want to eat some victory mackerel after this"
"Victory mackerel?" Rin followed him "more like consolation mackerel" he hit his back before he ran off to the laser zone with and upset, but also excited, Haru behind him.
First to go was Nitori, who got attacked from the back by a sneaky Nagisa making both of them fall on to the floor with Nagisa on top laughing proud of his first victim.
"Nagisa-san get off me!" Nitori was in the floor crying and trying to get up.
"Nagisa watch out!" Rei screamed in front of him at the same time he shoot at Momo coming from behind Nagisa and Nitori.
"Ugh! Not fair!" Momo was throwing a tantrum "sorry Nitori I wasn't able to avenge you" he said with a post.
"But I am" coming from the shadows Sousuke quickly shoot at Nagisa and then Rei
"Sousuke-senpai!" Both Nitori and Momo were looking at his friend with sparkling eyes.
"Nagisa stop playing and get up" Rei was dragging his dramatic friend through the floor.
"I'm sorry Rei I had failed us and now I can see the light at the end of the tunel" with his free arm he acted like he was reaching for something in the air.
"Nagisa stop it!"
Sousuke went back to the shadows ready to get done with this once and for all. Walking backwards behind one of the walls he kept all his senses up trying to find the two remaining enemies, and that's why when he hit his back against Makoto's he felt a chill going through his spine and had to hold his need to scream. Once he looked back to face the other one he let out a sigh of relief to see it was Makoto and not that other weirdo his best friend some nights would call in his sleep.
"Sousuke sorry I didn't see you" Makoto's reaction and expressions were not that different than Sousuke's.
"I didn't see you either don't worry" Sousuke was once again calm.
And once things were calm they remembered what they were doing before, hunting for the enemy.
They both looked at each other confused, what should they do now? Let the other one shoot or be the one shooting.
Sousuke let out a sigh.
"Listen Makoto my headache is still bothering me and I know you are not so much into this either" He looked at the blond in frond of him "so why don't we shoot each other at the same time and let those two love sick fools do their thing".
Makoto chuckled.
"It's not like they even remember we exist"
They both agreed to let their friends enjoy themselves and get something to eat.
Now it was the two of them, Rin and Haru were going to make it clear who was the best at this game, as they did with almost every game in existence.
The truth was that Haru and Rin were only after each other and that's why they both were surprised once they realized they were the only ones left in the game. They had been close to catch the other many times but sure they were not going to give up so easily.
'Ugh so stubborn' "Give up already Haru!" Rin was getting tired of this running around "you are only delaying the inevitable" he didn't knew where the other was but he was sure the other could hear his voice.
'So annoying' Haru's expression showed how tired he was of it too.
"Tch..." Rin had to find the perfect strategy to win this game already 'there must be a way to catch him off guard' and then something clicked in his head, a smirk formed in Rin's lips, he knew how to win.
Haru walked behind a wall trying to find the spot he thought he heard Rin yelled from, then out of nowhere he felt a strong force push him against the wall 'He found me!'.
"Gotcha" Rin was looking down at him with a proud expresión.
"It's not over yet" Haru had quick reflexes and he was pointing at Rin's chest the same way Rin was pointing at him.
"I expected no less" Rin was not worried at all "Go ahead shoot me"
"Of course I will"
 "But first..."
Rin closed the small gap between them and sealed their lips with a kiss.
Haru's eyes went wide at Rin's actions but he couldn't help but to close them when he felt the other's tongue making it's way into his mouth 'Damn he’s so good at this'.
Once the need for air was too much to handle they stopped the kiss. While Haru breathed heavily Rin leaned to his ear whispering "Game over" and with that Haru felt how his chest vibrated meaning he had just lost the game.
Rin left him with wide eyes and red cheeks while he walked away with a proud smirk and a sense of satisfaction.

That’s What You Get
Chapter 1. Ally.
“It is a pleasure to meet you, Itachi-san”.
We looked very much alike; the Uchiha’s black eyes and raven hair, and the fierce but delicate factions were present in us both. Anyone unfamiliar with our clan would have thought us siblings instead of far removed cousins.
“The pleasure is mine, Akane-san. Shisui-senpai would not stop talking about your taijutsu skills. It is an honor to finally meet the person behind that praise.”
The bow that followed was even deeper than mine and his overly formal speech and compliments had me blushing like the four year old I was.
“I am no master, Itachi-san. But I will continue to train to make sure, one day I am worthy of that praise”.
Itachi didn’t seem to be moved by my response and just nodded politely before moving o to speak with other members of the clan. His birthday had been too big an event for his low profile personality, but apparently there were things you couldn’t escape when your father was the head of the Uchiha.
“You do not seem to be enjoying yourself”. I turned to find the birthday boy trying to avoid attention in a dark corner behind me. He wasn’t outright hiding, but he wasn’t trying to interact with his guests either.
“I believe I could be making myself more useful in a training ground, these people have no interest in me once they realize I am not for sale, and neither do you.” Formal talk had always been a hassle to me; it was only part of an act, a mannerism used to fake respect when talking to people who hadn’t earned it.
Itachi seemed to notice my aversion to crowds right away, but made no comment on it; probably out of consideration.
“That would make two of us; believe me, Akane-san, when I say these people are not here to see me either.”
He was scanning the room from his spot in the corner, and I felt the urge to do the same. No one was paying attention to us, the high society of Konohagakure no Sato was much too concerned with politics and making alliances to notice two kids standing quietly in a corner.
“How would you like to come to one of the training grounds with me, Itachi-san? I feel like our time could be used in better ways than this, and I do not think we will be missed here either.”
My brother had disappeared, probably gone home; and the party was quite sober and kind of boring. As expected from a clan head actually. This was not a celebration for Itachi; it was an opportunity for his parents to do politics.
“I would very much like that. But will you not be uncomfortable wearing a kimono, Akane-san?” Said the boy as he guided me out of the living room, and into one of the many hallways of the Uchiha household.
“I will be fine, Itachi-san. My brother makes me train in a kimono from time to time to get me used to it. He says that if I were to be attacked, the enemy would not wait for me to change clothes.”
Thankfully we made it to the compound’s training grounds without attracting too much attention to ourselves.
“Would you rather we practice chakra control, taijutsu or target practice, Akane-san?”  His voice pulled me back from my daydreaming. I had been wondering how long would it take for somebody to come looking for us. I for one had only Shisui to worry about, but Itachi had the entire clan to think of; so either someone would come looking within the first half hour or not at all.
“My taijutsu and weapon handling skills are competent; my chakra control on the other hand, is mediocre at best.” I answered turning to him.
I wasn’t ashamed of my shortcomings, I simply wanted to work hard and stop them from becoming a liability. Even at the tender age of four, two mindsets had been drilled into me: my brother’s hard working nature, and the clan’s idea of self improvement and greed for power. I had no intention to do anything rash or radical with the power I gained, mind you, but my pride would not allow me to become anything but exceptional.
“I could help you with that if you want to; chakra control is one of my strengths. I have even started working on genjutsu.”
Of course he had started practicing his genjutsu already; his status as a prodigy was well founded. He, at four, had the chakra control of a genin twice his age. I nodded once and sat cross legged on the training ground floor, motioning him to do the same.
“I have been attempting to do the leaf exercise, but for some reason I can’t maintain it for more than a couple of seconds.” I explained, taking a leaf from the ground and sticking it to my forehead.
It stayed there at first, shaking a bit as I frowned in concentration. I only relaxed when after a few seconds; the leaf fell from its place in my forehead and onto my lap. During my pitiful demonstration of chakra control, Itachi sat still and completely silent across me. I didn’t dare look up, knowing this must have been such a disgrace in the heir’s eyes. An Uchiha that could not master the leaf exercise was as good as a civilian.
“There seems to be something wrong at a medical level, Akane-san. Have you had your first medical examination done yet?”  I shook my head no, it was one of the many options I had considered. It was actually the most plausible one, since there was no way I could know if there was something wrong with me.
I suspected my brother did know what was wrong, but didn’t tell me to spare my feelings.
“I don’t think you will ever be able to manage ninjutsu or genjutsu, Akane-san. If there is something wrong with your coils, then I don’t see how you could. The fact that you managed to make it this far is impressive. What I would like to know is if your family is aware of this, why have they not informed the elders?”
My mind was racing; Shisui could be the only one who knew if something was wrong with my coils since my grandparents had never awoken the sharingan, in fact they had never been shinobi in the first place. But why hadn’t he said anything? Why hadn’t he pushed for a medical check to be done on me? this would definitively have affected my shinobi career should it get out; I would have been benched before I even got started and I would have been made into a career bride just like my oba-chan wanted.
“My brother wouldn’t have wanted to shatter my dreams of becoming a kunoichi, but if anybody knows then that’s him.”
I sighed and turned to watch the sun set on the west side of Konoha. Would I let this stop me? Could I still become a shinobi, even if everything was pointing the other way? Even if my body prevented me from doing so? How would I make it past the medical checkup before entering the academy without the elders being notified? An Uchiha with malfunctioning chakra coils was enough of a disgrace; would they even risk sending me to the academy if there existed the faintest possibility that I would bring shame to the Uchiha name?
“You can still become a kunoichi, you are aware of that, aren’t you?” my body didn’t move, but I did glance at my companion from the corner of my eye. “I will not tell the elders, and I could put the medic on a slight genjutsu should it come to that. You would have to be able to manage the academy jutsu in order to raise no suspicion though”
I was convinced Itachi must have had a reason for wanting to help me; but right then nothing seemed to come to mind. I would have to tell Shisui about everything of course, I would not be lying to my brother any time soon. I never had and I never would. I also needed him to help me train, which to be honest was the main reason I didn’t want to keep him in the dark; that, and the fact that he probably already knew.
“I will have to tell my brother.”
“Tell me what, Akane-chan?”
I nearly jumped out of my skin when Shisui’s voice sounded behind me.
“You do realize my sister will be forced into an arranged marriage should someone find out her chakra system is compromised?” Itachi just nodded and attempted to hold my brother’s gaze with a courage I didn’t think he was capable of. Shisui was scary when he was this serious. “I will not have her reduced to a glorified housewife, to an object for child bearing if she does not want to. I will do anything in my power to make her wish come true, do I make myself clear?”Once again the Uchiha heir nodded, and assured my brother that he would provide as much support as he could.
He didn’t seem to be judging my choice of exercise, but simply analyzing it, storing the information for later use.
“I didn’t think you would actually come see me at five am this morning. Looks like I underestimated you, Itachi-san.” I said when the last set was over and done with.
I walked over to the veranda, where he was sitting; beside him a little tea table had been set, with a teapot was lazily steaming on it. Shisui could have been the only one to set it there, since our grandparents wouldn’t be up for another hour.
“I said I would help your brother with overseeing your training, and I neither like avoiding a senpai’s request, not I make a habit out of lying; so that is exactly what I intend to do.” Answered my new training partner, as he poured us both a cup of green tea.
Even if it was still quite early, I could tell it was going to be a chilly day, the old hand-me-down shinobi sandals my brother had given me were doing little to keep my feet warm; and the chill crawling up my yukata every now and then was getting quite uncomfortable.
“You should probably get different clothes to train in, Akane-san. A yukata is most certainly going to get in your way.”
I smiled down at the navy material covering my legs. It was old, in fact you could see the years of wear from how much the silver floral pattern had faded. It had been a gift from my grandma, and to her horror, I had loved it so much it would be the only thing I’d wear for the longest time; even to train in. the fabric was smoothed out from use and had stretched in places that made it look oversized if worn for something other than working out.
“Yeah, I know. But it’s been with me for so long, I feel kind of bad getting rid of it.” I said while patting off some shards of grass before kneeling on Itachi’s other side. He handed me a cup before taking his own.
“I can see why, it looks to me as if it used to be quite the garment. Whoever gave it to you must have spent a considerable amount of money on it.” I smiled lightly and took a sip out of my cup.
“That’s the thing, my oba-chan made it herself.”
We didn’t speak after that; we finished our tea in silence before making our way to the centre of the yard and started our new training routine. That was the first of a long series of encounters, in which I would put my future in Uchiha Itachi’s hands.
