listen. i know it's not 2014 anymore and i know it's just a throwaway line and that the russo brothers didnt intend for marvel action blockbuster captain america the winter soldier to become the tragic gay love story that never was but man. having steve say "it's kind of hard to find someone with shared life experience" in a conversation about romantic relationships right before the bucky reveal is so cruel. it's not just about steve and bucky obviously having the shared experience of being "out of time," it's the fact that they've both been stripped of their humanity in opposite directions. steve is a legend, he is an american hero and a national icon before he is a human being the same way that bucky is a weapon and a killing machine before he is a human being. steve knows that anyone who falls in love with him in the 21st century fell in love with captain america first, and that's just not him. but then the one person who knew him first and knew him best and loved him (not captain america, that little guy from brooklyn) so much he died for it is alive, impossibly. and it's a miracle because he's back and it's horrific because he's back under the worst possible circumstances. but to steve, the winter soldier is worth tearing the world apart for because he's always been bucky first. they find each other and suddenly they're human again. and maybe, despite it all, being "out of time" becomes a blessing, because in this century they'd finally be allowed to love each other the way they've always wanted to. like real people do.
like. no. the captain america trilogy isn't about two queer men traumatized and alienated by war and modern life rediscovering and reclaiming their humanity through their love for each other. but. i mean. it couldve been

I think one of the most realistic parts about Baby Reindeer (2024) is how much Donny downplays the abuse he faces
I know everyone wants to hate on him for being “stupid” and blame him for everything that happened because yes from an outsiders perspective he made questionable choices but isn’t that what HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE DO?
I know so many people who’ve “played nice” or tried to downplay abusive behavior. You try and tell yourself “It wasn’t that bad”, or that it was just some crazy experience that should be forgotten. It seems so much easier to stay silent and just try to move on.
You don’t wanna start problems
You don’t wanna be mean
You don’t wanna be the bad guy

Something about Tucker being held to a higher standard than all of the other Reds and Blues in the later seasons. Sure he likes sex and makes “that’s what she said” esque sex jokes, but like, especially during Shisno trilogy, the show seems to really like putting him down or treating his love for sex like a comedic punching bag. Oh, Tucker’s a single dad who genuinely loves and cares about his one alien kid despite how that kid was forced upon him? Well actually he had sex with a TON of women on Chorus by using the fuck temple and now has a ton of kids that he’s reluctant to pay child support for. And speaking of the temple, despite it being said to make everyone on the planet super horny and sex obsessed, Tucker says he didn’t feel any different, because making him hypersexual is funny (why is it funny, RT?). And remember how Tucker’s arc during Chorus had him emotionally dealing with Felix’s betrayal? Well now he falls for the most obvious manipulative lies from Temple, I guess he’s just dumber now. And you remember that funny scene in season 5 where Doc is giving Sister a physical exam, and Tucker obviously really wants to see her naked, but because Doc keeps telling him to not come in, and likely out of respect, he doesn’t, while Red Team is secretly perving on her (which they never fucking get called out for), plus all the funny moments of him trying to flirt with her, and her either being receptive or so fucking weird that it takes him aback? Well Tucker still REALLY wants her, but he’s now a childish asshole who can’t stand the idea of her not wanting to sleep with him, and is now super self centered despite the arc he went through showing how he values others, and the series basically keeps fucking with him and making him miserable and barely ever giving him a moment of relief. And you know how he was mercilessly tortured for M O N T H S during Restoration? Well he doesn’t get to process that trauma, and despite all the growth he’s supposedly gone through throughout the series, his last moment is an offscreen sex joke because Tucker’s the perv, get it? We can’t let him have a fucking break despite literally everyone else being treated comparatively nicer or given some kind of levity. Why specifically Tucker, Rooster Teeth? What has he done that’s so bad to you that you continually treat his character this way despite the fact that he’s truly the best (and should have been main) character in this whole series?

Happy Wednesday. Texting from zombieland because May just doesn't want too be gentle to me and I'm so achy.
But also enough whining. This is a rough excerpt from an upcoming chapter of First Aid <3
The metal railings force them to sit pressed in and with their legs dangling through the bars. Carlos’ hand winds over TK’s shoulders, one of the new ways they touch casually that he still has to talk himself into initiating, while TK’s palm warms his knee. A photo album is spread over their thighs.
TK truly was a cute kid, chubby and big headed and tooth-gap mouthed and rumple-shirted and messy-haired and absolutely recognizable still from the little mischief in his smile and eyes. He has story for every single photo. Carlos listens and learns. He wishes he could show his own now; his father used to be into photography and he has three albums to prove it.
The only photos he can offer on this borrowed phone, he finds his tia’s facebook page because she never fails to post an embarrassing picture of him each birthday. TK quickly clutches the phone and zooms in, cooing at the untamed curls he had as a toddler and laughing at him wearing his father’s ranger’s hat when he was five.
“I want a copy of this one!” TK says, tilting the screen so Carlos can look in horror at his fifteen-year-old self.
“No way!”
It's an old photo taken by his dad’s digital cam that somehow still captured the pimples on Carlos’ face and the awkward shadow of patchy stubble that was darker than most classmates (so he shaved, so he got even more pimples).
“Please!” TK begs, batting his eyelashes of his spring green eyes at him. “Look at baby-you and the tiny cow in your lap! I can't!”
“No.”
“And the giant cowboy hat swallowing half your face.”
“Kennedy-”
“Oh back to that name?” TK asks with a smirk. “Come on. You look so cute. If you’d have been in my class I would have pined over you. I’d have doodled little hearts on the sides of my binders that I wrote poems in.”
“Is that what you did when you had a crush?” Carlos asks, brushing a lock of hair from TK’s forehead that the wind blew there.
TK snuggles in closer, rubbing his head into Carlos’ shoulder like an alley cat he once proclaimed they both were.
“Not really.” TK mumbles against his shirt. “I was out, but I didn’t want people to know when I had a crush. I had a reputation to lose.”

Hmm question to see contrast in my perspective how much emphasis do you put on princess desire to be free? Like (I don’t know how to phrase this) besides the god stuff the vessels at surface level being captive women getting screwed over by a flock of birds how forefront was that in your mind?
For me it was like the most important thing to me. To the point I was looking at princess purely at that lens and it made love story part not really stick out to me
So like how about you?
Depends on the princess. She's shaped by perception, after all, and how much freedom means to her is entirely dependent on how much you focused on it. Prisoner and Tower being extremes ends of this spectrum; one is completely trapped and relies entirely on you to have a chance at being free, and the other has the chain more as an accessory than anything; an insignificant set piece for her story.
While it's definitely a valid lens to examine the princess with, much like any One perspective, feels too limiting to apply it every time.
So, yeah, I definitely keep it in mind when exploring characters like Prisoner, Spectre, Nightmare, and Beast, and how that aspect of your relationship shaped them, but for characters like Adversary, Razor, Tower, Stranger, and even Damsel, to an extent, that perspective isn't as useful.
Witch is a special case, because, in the first chapter, that perspective very much applies, by the second chapter, she has taken full control of the cabin, with even the roots around you moving at her behest, and the chain becoming obsolete. Her prison became her territory, and I feel like it's impossible to take that into account when analyzing Witch. That extends to other vessels tho, they have different views/relationships with the cabin itself, not just Quiet.
