As a demi-guy living in the UK, watching Rishi Sunak’s recent comment on trans and non binary people really pisses me off. We are a people ourselves, we need representation, especially with all the negativity happening in America under the exact same issue. Trans people are suffering everyday in a declining climate, and now with the British Prime Minister saying that he is against freedom of identity really makes me worry for the future of this country and the future possibilities of anti-trans laws coming in the England as well.
If this happens there will be less and less safe countries for trans people and less places where trans people can look for medical care, which should be treated as life saving.
This is really worrying and I would hate to see my home country following the path of certain American states and making it impossible for everyone to be happy and be themselves and cause openly trans people to have to go back into hiding because of this governmental push back.
The worst part of this is that when he said "People shouldn't be able to identify as whatever they want, there is only men and women", that was the moment he got the loudest round of applause from everyone in the audience in his whole speech, this really shows how little support and representation we have in the government, and even with the upcoming election, I doubt there could be much change no matter which party is voted for. Because neither of the two major have shown much of a positive view on queerness even though it is a current major topic.
I don't know how it will turn out for us in the future but I can say that these are warning signs for possibilities and I do not like the outlook.

If you're not reading Boyfriend Material by Alexis Hall, you should be. I'm a 100 pages in and in absolute splits. Top-tier British queer comedy. 💀💀
(I'm also convinced the character the protag is trying to hook up with is autistic as hell.)
“No. God no. My mother’s French.”
“Ah. Lucien, then.” He said it perfectly, too, with the half-swallowed softness of the final syllable, smiling at me—the first full smile I’d seen from him, and shocking in its sweetness. “Vraiment? Vous parlez français?”
There’s really no excuse for what happened next. I think maybe I just wanted him to keep smiling at me. Because for some reason I said, “Oui oui. Un peu.”
And then, to my horror, he rattled off God knew what.
Leaving me to scrape the bottom of the barrel of my GCSE French, for which I’d received a D. “Um…um… Je voudrais aller au cinema avec mes amis? Ou est la salle de bain?”
Utterly perplexed, he pointed. So I was obliged to go the bathroom.
When I slunk back, he immediately confronted me with “You don’t speak French at all, do you?”
“No.” I hung my head. “I mean, my mother used both when I was growing up, but I still turned out stubbornly monolingual.”
“Then why didn’t you just say that?”
“I…don’t know. I guess I assumed you didn’t speak French either?”
“Why on earth would I imply I could speak French, when I couldn’t?”
I stuffed a teetering forkful of pie into my mouth. “You’re right. That would be a deranged thing to do.”

TIPS FOR ALTERHUMANS WITH A SCHOOL UNIFORM / WHO WANNA BE SUBTLE:
- Make mini yarn tail keycains to hang on your bag
Teachers don't tend to care what kind of keycains you have as long as they aren't too big, and unless it's being worn like one, most people won't realise it's a tail. Of course it isn't ideal, but it's better than nothing.
- Draw the theta delta (therian symbol) on your pencil case/stationary
You could get into trouble for having something drawn on your hand/arm, so drawing it on your pencil case/stationary is the next best option. It still serves the same purpose of showing any other alterhumans that you are one too, but won't get you in trouble.
Of course this won't be for everyone, but if you are fine with your stationary having things drawn on then maybe try this.
- Decorate your bag with therian keycains/keychains that relate to your therio/kintype
This is similar to the first one. If you have any jewlery, it will probably be taken away, so you can't wear necklaces or bracelets with the theta delta or your therio/kintype on, but as I said before teachers don't care too much about keychains.
You might even be able to use jewlery as a keychain if you are able to take the charm off and put it on a clip (only do this if you are sure it will work - if you break your jewlery doing this then don't blame me).
- Wear a hat with ears on
There is a chance some teachers will confiscate your ears if you try to wear them at school, but as long as you aren't inside they won't take away your hat. It's pretty easy to find sun hats or wooly hats with animal (mostly cat) ears on.
The main problem with this is that people might be mean about it, but you can use the excuse that non-alterhumans wear animal hats all the time (this might not always work so be careful).
You could also wear headphones on the bus/in IT lessons that have ears on, but some teachers might not allow it.
Some coats also have ears on the hood.
- Put therian pins/pins of your therio/kintype on your bag
Very similar to the keychain one, you will most likely get into trouble for wearing pins on your clothing, but your bag is fine.
- Make the most of non uniform days
As long as you follow the non uniform dress code, you can pretty much wear all the gear you want. World book day is especially good for this, as any gear you wear won't be questioned as much. Just make sure you have a good explanation ready if anyone asks who you are dressed as.
Some of my favorites are:
"they're from [made up book], you probably haven't heard of it"
"I'm [animal character] as a human"
"I don't know, I panicked and just grabbed some random stuff from [younger sibling]'s room"
The main thing to be aware of is that people will probably still make fun of you if you wear a tail or ears, regardless of any excuses you give, but unless they actually find out about your alterhumanity it will probably die down over time.
- Wear gloves when you're outside
Fluffy gloves are the best subtle paws, as they feel just like paws and no one will ever question them (unless it's summer). You could even get paw print gloves, but they might be questioned.
That's all the ideas I have, feel free to reblog and add more.

B.C. will soon become the first province in Canada to remove outdated gendered and binary language.
Brenda Bailey, Minister of Jobs, Economic Development and Innovation introduced legislation to “correct outdated language by amending more than 2,300 instances of outdated gendered and binary terms from 21 ministries across 210 provincial statutes,” according to a release from the province.
Some of the changes include terms such as “he/she” or “sister/brother,” and those will be replaced with gender-neutral alternatives.
In addition, terms such as “chairman” or “workmen” will be updated to refer to the “chair” or “workers.”
“Trans and non-binary people, particularly youth, can be erased by laws that use only he and she,” said Adrienne Smith, litigation director at the Catherine White Holman Wellness Society trans legal clinic. “This change signals to those people that they are important, and that they are included and protected by the law.” [...]

Happy birthday @naberriesamidala
Ships: suzukka, past yuesukka
Note: British Nonbinary Sokka, British Trans Suki. I finally wrote them in a UK setting, I have strong opinions about breakfast tea brands and where abouts they grew up
Summary:
[It hadn’t even seemed like a good idea at the time, so why Suki has come here, she’s got no idea. Zuko wasn’t even especially convincing, he was just very sincere and, well she has to admit she’s a little curious.
In the past she had rarely taken an interest in the other people her partners dated, but she was curious to know Zuko’s type. After all, she knew herself, and that was one point towards Zuko having good taste, even if little else pointed in his favour.]
Thank you to @unacaritafeliz for beta reading and @queerplatonicsolid for checking my characterisations and cheering me on

Putting it out there that to me, at least it's concerning how few people have mentioned that Nex Benedict is Indigenous.
Yes it may not seem relevant to some people in this sole case but with wider history it's so important.
Indigenous women and two-spirit (or otherwise nonbinary) people are at such a high risk of violence this needs to be part of the conversation around their murder yet I've only seen two posts mention it.
Especially when we as the lgbt+ community refer to indigenous peoples when talking about historical examples of nonbinary genders.
Please make sure you acknowledge this part of their identity too and support missing and murdered indigenous women and two-spirit people (MMIW2SP)

Intro Post ★ Back at it Again
I used to be @reposting-fan on here and then Tumblr nuked my account for no reason (still miffed about that I can't lie). If we were mutuals pls follow me back bcs I most definitely miss you lol
Hello, you can call me Ras. I'm black, I'm British and I probably have ADHD but it's not confirmed so I don't go around saying it yk. I like British music (big up britpop and the Smiths), I'm a Christian leftist who aligns well with punk values and I like cool art and stuff like that, u get me. You'll get my interests if you see what I repost.
To be quite frank with you lot, I made my first account just to scroll and then I got sidetracked (attached). Then I got banished to the shadow realm but now I'm back because you cannot get rid of me except Tumblr can and they did. My old account was called @reposting-fan and that's because I'm really quite fond of the repost feature. That's all I do. So don't expect much from me unless you enjoy disappointment lol

I don't generally talk about politics in the UK, but as a UK resident and trans person the hatred of trans people has escalated things to a new level here, particularly in England.
With the closure of Tavistock, which was the only NHS branch that treated trans children and young people, the 'intention' is to eventually shift the former Tavistock patients to other services, but due to the extreme wait times and the ever growing fears around trans children, they're now talking about changing the interim service. These potential changes include:
1. Adding more mental health and neurodivergency professionals to the service, which sounds like a positive except the document on the proposed changes has NOT outlined whether they will be trained in dealing with trans children and young people, and considering the current articles circulating on all sides of the political sphere about trans children potentially being just 'confused' or being trans 'because of autism' this is a questionable move.
2. Adding additional criteria that makes getting a referral to trans-specific healthcare services for a trans child that much harder, such as making it so only a doctor can make a referral (currently, counsellors, teachers, etc can also make referrals). The criteria these doctors follow to determine if a child is actually trans has not been laid out, and is very open to abuse of that power. They also haven't provided any information on how one might appeal that decision if your or your child's doctor decided they're not trans enough to get a referral.
3. The document also outlines pathologising social transition, making it so social transition be allowed only on recommendation from a doctor, meaning children who have asked their schools to change their name/pronouns because their parents aren't safe are at risk. This also means parents who allow their children to socially transition without consulting a doctor (or against recommendation) could be reported to the local authorities for child abuse. Yes, this is real.
There are many more I haven't mentioned here - a few are positive, but most aren't. There is also a failure in this document to outline how trans people of colour or disabled trans people are going to be affected, and the document has cited the Cass Report (led by a paedetrician who was assigned to assess whether or not the NHS services for trans children are suitable... warning if you read the report and/or their twitter page it is very often blatantly transphobic).
This has serious consequences not just for trans children and their families in the UK, but also for trans adults and is a foot in the door to passing more legislation that puts us at risk. So, as a UK trans person I am BEGGING my fellow UK trans folks to have a look at the NHS survey about these proposed changes (see here: the survey for the changes) and fill it out - unfortunately the survey closes on Sunday 04/12/22, so please do it ASAP! Gendered Intelligence has a whole guide on how to fill it out if you need any help. To those not in the UK, just sharing this everywhere you can would be enough. TERF Island might be a joke to you but it's our reality, and it's getting ever worse.
