Birnam Wood, by Eleanor Catton

Mira Bunting leads a guerrilla gardening group that plants crops in unnoticed places. When a landslide blocks the Korowai Pass, Mira finds an abandoned farm in the town of Thorndike. This gets the attention of American billionaire Robert Lemoine, who wants to build his end-of-the-world bunker on the land. Clytemnestra, by Constanza Casati

This text describes a retelling of the story of a queen who was born into royalty but married a tyrant. After experiencing tragedy and injustice, she begins to plot for vengeance. Dog Friendly by Victoria Schade ⭐⭐⭐ (3.5/5) This is heartwarming and lovely contemporary that revolves around overworked, burned-out veterinarian, Morgan Pearce, who has to take a vacation after losing consciousness due to fatigue. She accepts request ofone of her patient to dogsit for them in Nantucket for a summer where she finds her love for job once again and also understands the importance of taking care of herself. The story is about depression, compassion fatigue, emotional trauma, impact of lack of work-life balance on mental health, dark side of profession, importance of therapy, friendship, and love. Plot is character driven emotionally engaging and steady to slow paced. Best part of the story is theme of compassion fatigue and emotional trauma that every veterinarian go through. I didn’t know the darker side of the profession. Dogs are amazing. I never had dog as pet, I’m a cat person but it was interesting to know about dogs, their behavior, ailments and diseases more. Why 3.5 stars- I didn’t like the lull in middle part. It felt like nothing much is happening in the book in terms of character development and romance for long time. I wish there was more discussion on what Morgan was going through, what has affected her self-esteem, and why she feared talking about her problems for most of the book. Both romantic and sibling relationships are okay. Overall, Dog Friendly is heartwarming, lovely, enjoyable, slow paced women’s fiction with serious topics and beautiful setting. Omg if I thought Perfect Strangers was deviant and amazing, this book totally gives new meaning to those words; a thriller-romance…wow, I have no idea how on earth I´ve survived this long without something like this out there. The primal chemistry between the character had me blushing everywhere, JT took it a level up and blew my mind with this story. Revved to the Maxx is the fun romance between Charly and Maxx. Maxx has an ad out for a full time assistant at the mechanic shop he owns. His list of requirements was detailed and hilarious. Desperate for a job and place to stay, Charly applies. What happens from there, including their meet cute, was such a fun journey. Charly’s character was so quirky, and perfect for the grouch that was Maxx. As growly as Maxx tried to be, he was a cinnamon roll at heart, and had his heart broken before. He needed someone like Charly to storm into his life and help mend the pieces he didn’t even know needed fixing. The smex was HAWT, and Maxx’s mouth was dirty! Charly and Maxx had great chemistry from the start, and it never waned as the story went on. Also - NO THIRD ACT BREAKUP. Definitely check out this first book in the Reynolds Restoration series. Melanie Moreland’s writing is always easy for me to read. I can’t wait to read the rest! After DNFing ACOTAR earlier this year, I just assumed fantasy romance wasn’t for me and I had no plans to pick this one up. That was until one of my best friends was like, “no really read it.” So I did. And I’m surprised that I honestly had a pretty good time. I was sometimes confused by the plot and some scenes were a little strange especially towards the end but I was completely intrigued with what was happening. There’s SO much tension, political and otherwise and it’s just a fun time. I made zero notes while I was reading and just enjoyed the story so sorry for a lack of actual review here!
