🌟 Review🌟 - - 18+ 🚨CHECK TW🚨 - - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 I’m going to be completely upfront and say I don’t think this book is for everyone. I usually post my reviews the same day I read the book but felt compelled to properly absorb what I had read. I myself found this book especially hard to read at certain times because of the subject matter. That being said; to say that this was an astounding read would be an unequivocal understatement. The story follows fifteen-year-old Vanessa Wye and Forty-two-year-old Jacob Strane and their “transgressions” together. Through interspersed chapters of Vanessa’s past and present we get a first hand recount of her affair with her English teacher whom she still believes did nothing wrong 17 years later. My Dark Venessa delves into the power imbalance, manipulation tactics, and coherence of the affair and the after affects it has on Venessa and the people she loves. What I found so profound in this novel were the thought provoking and tragic revaluations and Anecdotes from Both past and present Vanessa. @kateelizabethrussell first novel is a riveting testament on manipulation and heartbreak from abuse. This novel deeply effected me, in a way I’m afraid I cannot properly put into words. I’m going to share a few quotes from the novel below that particularly shook me. 🚨SPOILER WARNING🚨 “To be groomed is to be loved and handled like a precious, delicate thing.” “Groomed. Bali's Deadly Scent

Chapter 4 The Gods have greeted me Today, I walked out of the home-stay onto the streets of Canggu, I felt a strange sense of déjà vu wash over me. It was like I had been here before and that I had stepped back in time to a period of great turmoil. The air was thick with humidity and the scent of incense from the nearby temples. I felt a sense of unease, as though I was about to embark on a journey that would test me to my very limits. I walked further, my unease only grew even stronger. The streets were bustling with activity, but there was a strange sense of urgency and tension in the air. I noticed groups of men gathered in an alleyway, their hushed conversations sending shivers down my spine. I could feel eyes on me as I walked past, and I saw deep in the alley that they had a set-up a bird pen. I heard the sound of clucking chickens. Curiosity getting the best of me, I walked back and quietly peered around the corner and saw this group of men huddled around a makeshift ring. One of the men whispered, "This is the best one yet. I've trained him to be quick and deadly." Another man replied, "I have a bird that can take him down. It's all about strategy." I realized that they were talking about cockfighting, a barbaric and illegal blood sport. My stomach turned as I watched them place bets and release the roosters into the ring. The sound of feathers and clashing beaks filled the air as the men cheered on their birds. I couldn't bear to watch anymore and quickly left the scene, feeling disgusted and disturbed by what I had witnessed. A reminder of the dark and twisted world that exists beyond the surface of our everyday lives. Suddenly, the sound of chanting and drums filled the air, and I could see a procession of people dressed in traditional Balinese attire. They carried offerings of fruit and flowers, and their faces were painted in bright colours. The air was charged with energy, and I could feel the intensity of the moment. As I watched the procession, I wondered a little anxiously what lay ahead for my journey through Bali. What secrets were waiting to be uncovered, what dangers were lurking in the shadows? I knew that I was in for an adventure like no other, one that would test my limits and challenge my perceptions of the world.

I am finally back on track after a very long reading slump. When I started this book I knew it would not be the best choice to get rid of my slump but at the same time, I really wanted to read it. This would be my first self-growth book review and I am very excited to share it. Dale is truly an amazing writer and lecturer. His lessons are the type of lessons that will never get too old and that is why the book keeps selling and leaders continue to learn from it. ✨ I annotated a lot in this book as you can see in the photos as well. Some of his best quotes and references are: 🔴 ‘A man convinced against his will is of the same opinion still.’ 🔴 ’When two partners always agree, one of them is not necessarily.’ 🔴 ‘You can measure the size of a person by what makes him or her angry.’ Have you read this book? Clara has a dream : land the lead in the high school musical, Grease. As her dream comes true, she meets the handsome Sam, and falls in love. But Clara isn’t like other teenagers. She is a witch. And according to witch’s laws, she is supposed to marry a guy she has never met in a few weeks. Defying the council’s authority, Clara and Sam escape, without imagining the terrible consequences and punishment that will follow.

It is the second book of the Unstable Magic series I read, and I was not disappointed. Emily Bybee has an incredible talent to create extraordinary characters evolving in a world where humans and witches coexist. Even if all the books can be read individually, each of them focusing on a different character, they all form together a perfect coherence, moving forward in the Unstable Magic universe and story.

Clara and Sam’s story is sad and dramatic, a reflection of the dark and heartless laws of the witch’s world . But is also full of hope, as the revolt rumbles and the resistance sets up among the witches. I am really curious to know what will come next. But one thing is certain : I am in love with Emily’s characters.

First Read of 2023!!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Love in the Time of Serial Killers by Alicia Thompson. An interesting read in the romance world. Love in the Time of Serial Killers is an intellectual read full of Killer Facts and a budding romance. This book was full of whit and what if's! Pheobe is an interesting girl who truly struggles with relationships. Whether the relationship is a friendship, family member or romantic, she struggles to make connections with her peers. When she goes to clean out her father's house to sale Pheobe meets Sam and she really doesn't grasp that he likes her. She also runs into an old friend and struggles to reconnect that relationship. She is not very good at conversations and sometimes comes across as rude or freezes up and can't comprehend language. Throughout this book she develops and learns that her life is a lonely life and she is the only one who can change it. She struggles, but don't give up on her she will do it. She is that nerdy girl with a huge brain and a emotional disconnect. Overall the book was a good read, with loads of murder talk, humor, steamy romance and what if's. 🗳️ ELECTIONS 2022 + MINI BOOK REVIEW 🗳️ Q: Are you registered to vote, and do you have a plan to vote on or before Nov 8? If not, is there anything I can do to help you and/or facilitate you registering and voting? (Or for my non-US friends, do you considtently participate in elections in your home country?) It's hard to believe, but midterm election day in the US is just *two weeks* from today! Many states, like my state of NC, are in early voting mode already. If you follow me, it's not too hard to figure out what side of the political divide I'm on, but I'm really not advocating for one side or the other right now -- I JUST WANT PEOPLE TO VOTE. Don't ever let anyone tell you your vote doesn't count or discourage you from voting! Take 2 or 3 friends with you when you register and/or vote, and, if you're a parent, let your kids see you participating in the process every single election so that they grow up becoming active citizens in this democracy. These are some of the lessons included in Stacey Abrams' OUR TIME IS NOW, which we read for #nonfictionfactionbuddyreads in September. She also discussed her 2018 run for Georgia governor and the efforts of her organization, Fair Fight Action, to register tens of thousands of new voters in the state. She is an absolute force to be reckoned with and so incredibly knowledgeable about the intricacies of elections and the political process. I listened to the audiobook for this, which was read by Abrams herself and was fantastic. Thanks to @torriereadsalot for recommending I listen and for starting me on this audiobook journey!! (I listened to 3 in Sept and have already listened to 8 in October! Who am I?!)
