im sorry im breaking my anti fast for this bc its literally the most idiotic thing i have ever seen.
"some people hate sjm for the racism in her books"
yeah NO SHIT.
that has always been the point.
thats literally the entire point of being anti sjm posts. thats literally all we talk about in the anti tags. but shortsightedness and an unhealthy relationship with these characters has always blinded y'all to that fact.
you see this is why i could not stomach conversations because you guys constantly make a mockery of the problems in sjm's work and only acknowledge the problems for a 'gotcha' moment. EVERY SINGLE TIME we have talked about how the racism in sjm's work affects the writing of her characters you guys have made it into an anti feysand problem, and by doing that you have willingly separated yourself from the problems in the story. the reality is that the racism affects the way these characters are written -- including your favs. do not dare twist the main message of antis to fit some twisted little point you want to make toward specific blogs. i have been on my last account for over two years and EVERY TIME i -- or any anti -- has talked about the way sjm's racism bleeds onto the text we have been undermine, ran off our blogs, sent hate mail. so yeah it pisses me off to no end to be sent the dumbest post in the anti tags to ever exist. yall do not care about her racism, her misogynoir. if you did, you wouldn't be calling people brain dead for daring to dislike your favorite ship for valid reason -- i.e. the racism. we talked about the complexities of how racist the portrayal of the illyrians were -- and we were dismissed as anti feysand and therefore 'braindead.' we talked about the way women of color and the allusions of FGM (female genital mutilation)-- and we were called anti feysands and then dismissed. stay out of the anti tags -- especially if you are the ones perpetuating these dynamics. i was ran off my blog for discussing these issues for two years. y'all sent hate mail, called me tamlin stan -- called others tamlin stans -- for even daring to discuss the racism in sjm works. that's not even touching the nehemia situation, or crescent city. fuck off the tags. you literally have a blog dedicated to this woman and her racist ass characters, you shoot down any criticism of them because of it, and then yall have the nerve to come into the tags for the some hehe hahah tamlin stan bs??? double fuck off. the anti sjm tag has always been a place for that criticism. always.
addition: and these problems are not just valid when discussing characters you don't like. the illyrians are written to brutes, with the bat boys operating as the 'model minority'. the story justifies the lack of infrastructure, and the misogyny (misogynoir depending on how you classify illyrian women), the lack of progress.
'its a culture problem'
'rhysand has tried, but they wont listen'
like do you know how crazy it is to write a group of people as permanently mentally stunted? to classify their women as nameless entities that our main character can shift in and out of to satisfy her supposed 'man of color' sexually? feyre cosplays as a woman of color for SEX, meanwhile in FIVE BOOKS we've met one named illyrian woman and shes described 'interesting,' but not as pretty as opposed to nesta and gwyn, mor, and feyre who are the prettiest people to walk the earth. that don't sound CRAZY to yall??? these people of color are left without leadership, without infrastructure, no access to a golden city, no access to their high lord, are forced to breed out warriors who live and die without ever getting to enjoy the city of velaris, the house of wind for survivors. all of that so that the maincharacters can live out that power fantasy. its racist. thats what it is. please think consider reading comprehension b4 yall make these gotcha posts because it really stinks of weirdness.
the illyrians are treated like rabid animals by their leaders, by everyone and then the responsibility is on them to somehow progress when everyone is unwilling to give them nothing more than scraps. like there's a real life counterpart to this, and yall arguments are very real and very damaging.
they are written by the author to be a permanent second class deserving of their position because they're minds somehow cannot comprehend any 'progression.' all of these characters including rhysand, feyre, mor, az, cassian, tamlin, nesta say racist things toward them because THE NARRATIVE thinks they're justified in saying them. like the moralizing is wild in this case bc all of them are allowed to get away with it. its not just tamlin or nesta, not just the valkyries (which is an ENTIRELY different scenario btw). like the idea that all of the bad can be ascribed to the 'bad' characters and the 'good' characters somehow don't feed into those racist tropes is WILD. rhysand literally told us -- the reader -- the in the war against slaves and their oppressors somehow it was an equal battle. like?????? somehow 'both sides were at fault' ignoring that one side WAS LITERALLY SLAVES. like can u imagine if someone looked at the Haitian revolution and was like....yeah the side of the oppressors was somehow on equal footing when the other side WAS ENSLAVED? how can u acknowledge this author is racist and then pretend that the racism only bleeds over to the characters you *shockingly* don't like?? yes -- there is a problem with feyre wearing illyrian wings BECAUSE SHES THE HIGH LADY. she made herself that title. of course that carries a different weight. the racism is ingrained in the text, not just some little trinket to flash when you want to moralize bullying a small group of people with strawman arguments.

i work for a school district and our labor union back in november wanted to put out a ceasefire statement that didn’t condemn hamas and blamed israel for the conflict. i live in a pretty liberal area where there have been a lot of protests and even riots since the war started. there are only like 10 jews in the entire district and we rallied to go to the executive board meeting and talk about why this was a dangerous thing to do especially at a time when literally none of us were going to shul bc of all the bomb and shooting threats. i spent an hour on the worst zoom call of my life traumatizing myself trying to explain to the people in my union who i fully believe had good intentions why this was not something that was appropriate for a teachers union on the other side of the world with literally no stake in the conflict to do and that it would disproportionately impact the few jewish folks who actually work here and are materially impacted by the war. after listening to my union president go on about how she doesn’t want to be “the arbiter of what is and is not antisemitism” (which, nobody was asking you to do that. we literally just wanted you to listen to us when we told you a thing was antisemitic) one of the staff from my school (bless him) suggested rewording the statement to be more specific to the union so that instead of taking a position on the war, it was acknowledging the impact it was having on our communities and pledging solidarity with any union or community members who were affected by it. and that’s what they ended up doing! which felt pretty good despite having to sit there and be questioned and attacked for saying “maybe you don’t have to have an opinion on something that literally doesn’t affect you and maybe you should listen to the people who actually have a stake in this and are being attacked because of it”
fast forward to yesterday. without announcing to the general union members they voted again on a ceasefire resolution and pushed it through, sending out a link to call your congressperson about calling for ceasefire to all union members. i’m just. what was even the point of all of that if they were going to ignore everything we said and push it through anyway. i get that things are bad and i hate the war too. but all this is doing is alienating the few jews in the district who are already being attacked by their coworkers and students over the war regardless of our position or opinion on it. i’m lucky in that my building staff has been really supportive to my face and have stood up for me behind my back. my coworkers at other schools are having a very different experience and it’s so frustrating that those experiences are constantly diminished and compared to others. none of the things that we talked about back in november have changed. all of the reasonings for not making a statement on this are the same. but the union leadership pushed it through anyway, without telling the union until after it was already over and done. i’m just so tired of being ignored by the group that is supposed to be advocating for me. i’ve been having issues with district admin overloading my classes and the union has ignored me because of what i did at that meeting back in november (when i was terrified and traumatized and begging them to not endanger us further) and the district obviously isn’t going to help me. i’m in my second year of teaching considering quitting because of all of this. what the hell am i supposed to do now.

Hey! If you’re still doing the Echoes ask game, could I trouble you for answers to questions 1 and 31? :)
1) Who's your favourite lord, Alm or Celica?
Hmm, from a gameplay standpoint definitely Celica, because of her magic, even though she drops off stat-wise lategame due to there being better healers, spellcasters, and sword-wielders, but narratively? I like both a lot. Due to the writing being...well, a bit sexist, Alm's writing comes off as stronger than Celica's, but I don't think Celica's writing is as bad as most of the fandom talk I've read makes it out to be. It's not what I'd call strong writing, but technically Celica's decisions make sense in the context of what she does and doesn't know, how she thinks she needs to be/act as a royal who's born to inherit leadership vs. what the world actually needs from a leader at that moment in history, her general insecurities from a lifetime of expectations, and also being like, 17. Like, listen, being a teen sucks, and I can't even imagine how much worse it would've been with the crushing weight of everything that Celica is expected to shoulder before and during the events of the story. She pulls through the narrative surprisingly well all things considered bc again, she is a kid facing a lot of Horrors outside of the Horrors that come with being a kid.
31) Which characters do you think should have had a support together? (Characters from different routes are fine, too!)
Hmm, basically every character who's limited to one support at the very least.
For Alm's side, I think Mycen should have had supports with all the Ram kids, since he was a major part of all their childhoods. Tatiana and Silque could have supports comparing/contrasting their experiences as clerics. I think supports between Mathilda and Faye would be interesting, esp. if Fay approaches Mathilda for advice about how to win Alm over, only to have Mathilda instead gently show her that yes, while she and Clive are deeply in love, there's so much more to life than just romance and Faye's entire world is open for her to explore outside of Alm. Also Faye should get supports with the other Ram kids. I think Kliff and Luthier could have some pretty comedic supports, and Kliff should also just get supports with all the other Ram kids as well.
For Celica's side (who didn't get extra DLC supports, RIP), I uh, actually lemme get this out of my system, there should be a way to recruit both Deen and Sonya, just like, make it that the player needs to meet certain in-battle requirements to recruit whomever they fight, I think we should get both Deen and Sonya, and that they should have supports. Deen could also support Saber, especially since it would be interesting if Saber got Deen to talk about his past since it's...basically never brought up in-game, if I recall. I think supports between Saber and Sonya would be interesting too, since they're both from Rigel, and Saber and Conrad (since Saber was acting as Celica's guardian essentially for part of the game, almost as a brotherly figure to Celica, and by goodness if we're putting random OCs into remakes, let's get the mileage out of them at least). I think Nomah should have supports with all the Novis Priory kids. Also Valbar should have supports with Kamui to complete the triangle for that character trio, and it would give us more insight into why Kamui is sticking around with the group. I think Atlas should get supports with the Whitewing sisters (bc of his dedication to helping his brothers mirroring their sisterly bonds), and Conrad (bc again, the weird "sorta filled role as Celica's brother" but also they're both kinda dorks so it'd be fun to see them be dorks together). Genny should get supports with the rest of the Novis kids as well.
As for cross-route supports...there are all sorts of interesting combos, but I'm sure I've talked enough.

Fairies and Fae Spirits
Masterlist
Started watching PH playthroughs bc I got tired of not being in the know tbh. Controversial opinion but I love the gross 3ds graphics and the repetitive nature of the Temple of the Ocean King. Been a little while since I’ve written one of these so hope you like it. I just got back into school again and it’s my sister’s birthday so I only had enough time to post my drafts.
Ask box is always open for any questions or specific requests for more headcannons. These headcannons are exactly what it says on the tin so consider it my AU of the LoZ franchise. This is not a 100% accurate telling of the series and is full of theories and original ideas!
Content under the cut!
The fae have inhabited Hyrule since the early years of its existence. First created by the Golden Goddesses as another small species of magical creatures, they were few and far between. Each fae was made from the light and magic stolen from dying stars dotted around the skies and were given the role of healers for the other tribes with their naturally occurring magic. These creatures were often mischievous and quite intelligent, aided more by their ability to turn invisible or exude a bright light when experiencing a strong emotion. Rumours came from the three tribes that fae could be dangerous if not kept in check, and so were tamed and calmed by offering sweet foods or scents.
In the times of Skyloftians, the fae had become much smaller and developed wings as mechanisms to flee from predators during the War of Gods, and became much more commonly known as fairies. They imitated a humanoid appearance after a few hundred years and used the glow from their wings for survival, identification, and to lead others to safety. Another form of the fae took their stead much later, being the more Hylian-like Kokiri, who later became Koroks, and adopted their close relatives as companions in life.
Many fairies banded together under a kind of leadership depending on the region they resided, though seemed to have very positive ideas of one another. They were known to travel alone or in small groups of two or three.
A fairy is always produced through supernatural means. In the Era of the Sky, this meant through the Golden Goddesses creation or Hylia’s intervention for those who knew of the sacred symbol. Later into Hyrule’s establishment, a fairy could be produced through the flapping of a Great Fairy’s wings collecting its magical dust together into a new fairy.
Upon the first Great Fairies’ (at that point known as Great Mothers) appearances in the world, the fairies seemed to fall into their leadership quite easily due to their preestablished groupings. They were known as the daughters of the Great Fairies and fell into one of three social roles; tending to their Great Fairy, protecting their place of worship, or adventuring to find new territory and threats. Since all fairies possess healing magic and are otherwise immortal, they only die once their magic runs out. This often happens they heal a traveller (larger creatures included since the size of the person dictates how much magic is used). Because all fairies have an instinctual urge to heal the injured, the Great Fairies feel incredibly protective towards their daughters. As an alternative, the fairies are encouraged to lead the traveller to the Great Fairy instead.
Despite this, fairies are often encouraged to wander the world (depending on their role) and have their own independence, meaning that they often meet other races and become companions if they so choose. This is historically seen with Hylians and fae spirits such as Kokiri/Koroks, who are able to hear the fae language. Hylians have the ability to hear it due to their pointed ears being able to hear languages of immortals. The language sounds like the jingling of bells to those unable to understand. Over the years, Hylians have been able to only hear parts of the language due to the races’ very limited interaction, and by the time of the Era of the Wild, only a few select people deemed close to the gods have been able to understand even the smallest details of the language.

🌸: headcannons about Dustin as an adult
✍️: bc I’m nosey
📸: 12
📝: Penelope Garcia
thank you so much friend !! i'm gonna put your letter on the ask that's right after this so it's on its own thing 💜
🌸: headcannons about Dustin as an adult
okay so i had to think about this for awhile but i think he's reluctant to leave everyone behind at first. it takes steve convincing him that leaving hawkins is the best thing he could possibly do for himself
so they compromise and dustin goes to a school in indiana or maybe even out to chicago if he's feeling adventurous.
he initially goes for engineering and it, it makes sense to everyone. he went to that camp and he built all those things that eventually saved the world, it's only natural to continue
but the thing is, his heart isn't in it. he's learning and he's building but he really just doesn't feel connected to what he's doing. so then he thinks about steve and how the guy's been really stepping up leadership wise in the emergency relief efforts after the cracks opened up, how he's trying to improve hawkins afterward. he thinks about his favorite teacher, and the av club and all that it did for him. he thinks the av club and the teacher might have saved his life, considering how alone and bullied him and his little friend group were.
so he makes a sudden switch to studying teaching, and it's like the whole world opens up. he knows immediately that this is what he's meant to be doing.
so he goes back to a smaller town like hawkins and he helps. he teaches and he relates to the kids, and he offers an ear when they really need one. he mentors a club he was never fully interested in before but one no one else wanted to run, and he falls in love with the topic because he loves seeing the kids as passionate as he once was about av.
✍️: wip work - ask for a line or detail from a current wip of mine i'm working on a harringrove piece about the boys saying i love you for the first time
billy expected it, the first time. he could see the words building up in steve, from the shaking hands against his own and the way those brown eyes waited until the last moment to meet his. i love you. but billy didn't feel the rush of joy he expected, instead a vine of fear that felt a lot like the one that had once dragged him to the ironworks building wrapped tightly around each lung and squeezed. because steve harrington fell fast. he'd told nancy he loved her quickly, billy knew. he told everyone that. the words fell from steve's lips like they didn't matter, like he had an infinite amount of love to share. and that, well that terrified billy more than anything else.

the wilds s2 e5 discussion (tw SA from previous ep)
i really did not need for josh to go through this man
seth being the inside man sure is a choice. now i wonder what kind of fucked in the head he is to have agreed to the role and done what he did to josh, since it clearly was not part of some scheme.
also, this makes 2/4 operatives who have siblings in their control groups, which feels wild considering you’d think they get found out instantly. luckily for gretchen both sibling pairs have massive underlying tension ig!
still do not care about gretchen can we cut back faster
rachel getting to a place where nora’s funeral being suggested while we’re still stuck with 0 body is making me think that she is not in fact dead.
is shelby losing her faith? is that what we’re getting here?
kirin may yet be the #true leader of the group, which is kind of annoying considering what a macho chad type he’s been presented as thus far. stil glad the others are making an effort re josh despite how annoying he is (esp w the tryhard lib backfire racism).
so far gretchen’s inside agents have 1) died 2) ‘died’ 3) purposefully sabotaged the whole operation after assaulting another candidate and 4) been her shitty son, so that’s another point for the “gretchen is a total flop” argument. absolutely incompetent.
45 days in is ig a time to discuss what people back home think about their missing daughters. fun times.
gretchen name-drop! woopsie! (everyone immediately looking at leah after this reveal is so funny)
kirin at least believes josh. future besties set up ig.
again narratively i just do not enjoy the way the SA is inevitably going to destroy any authentic dynamics that could have arisen between the group esp re leadership. the tensions that breed just of the clashes of personalities and approaches are so much more compelling to me than the constant gross tension coming from this shared secret.
henry holding out on the #establishment is very in-character. and him just saying the lyrics to black parade…… is so funny to me. im sorry.
bad skin on the girlies, applause again for the MUAs
shelby’s internal drama is… painful. not painful enough to make me forget she put out that fire two eps ago tho!
oh wait shes going there too. oh fuck.
wow okay toni is so accepting. i do not think i would have been the bigger person so easily. but then again yes the likelihood of the boat spotting their tiny campfire is low.
oh the guys are having this confrontation NOW already?? i was not mentally prepared to have to sit through this debacle.
the boys are all acting exactly as i would have expected which makes the whole thing even more mystifying to me. so they deal with this within the space of one episode, and now that’s just lying there between them hanging over everything else they do. it really doesn’t feel like this served any greater purpose than being a twist villain reveal, at the cost of more natural character evolutions. & from an audience pov anyone interacting w seth now makes me like skin-crawly uncomfortable which is def intentional but doesn’t make me want to watch a lot of the guys’ segments. now hes been banished i assume he has to go into straight villain mode, but having an explicit antagonist to bond against makes the guys have a less interesting island life. and flattens seth out too obv but fuck his character.
random note i feel for henry bc seth *is* family but also it feels like their backstory may involve some badness by the way he reacts to this whole situation.
kirin did come thru tho thank u kirin.
as for josh i hope hes going to do well after this display of solidarity even tho he is very understandably traumatised & not happy abt the way this affects the group’s relationship to him (i will say this for this storyline i do think from josh pov it handles male SA sympathetically and realistically). & it makes sense that no one says anything abt this now, even for as reluctant to discuss it i would assume them all to be about it anyways.
future josh makes me not super confident he evolves positively from here tho.
+ sidenote i do enjoy kirin and ivan acting as opposite energy team parents despite josh not particularly appreciating either approach in the moment.
love the amount of rachel introspection this season but wish it wasnt all about her presumed dead sister. the character has so much inner conflict.
fatin going leah mode (more successfully than leah) is good stuff
welp called it. nora girl i get it but WOW have you done a lot that i would not forgive you for putting me through if i was your sister. hoping this was not your choice

I really do understand and tried to entertain the idea of "some people categorically put characters into good/bad labels without considering nuance" because maybe I'm "some people" here but I have a hard time understanding and sympathizing with June's character FOR THE FACT that when she finally escaped Gilead, she a) spent all of the escaping time fighting Moira for saving her (which makes sense because of her attachment to her daughter and also her concussion), b) spent a long time not interacting with everyone (which makes sense bc healing takes time, and c) raping her husband (which some people are trying to explain as not rape but rather her taking control of her sexuality). My beef with the explanation for c) is there's a difference between taking concensual leadership of a sexual encounter vs. what she did, which is come on to him out of NOWHERE. Initially there are some signs of implied consent, including him being surprised and reaching out to join in, but she slaps his hand out of the way and covers his mouth. By mid to end of that sexual encounter, he is visibly uncomfortable. To me this is sexual assault, and to pitch it as some sort of feminist move of control and sexual freedom disgusts me, because this "freedom" took the agency from another person. How is this different from some of the other characters, who killed and harmed others in Gilead? Emily killed someone not in self-defense, but in anger. I think that's where I can see the gray. I neither see her as a good or bad character, but one coping in twisted ways in a twisted place. June seeks control by being different, daring and a saviour. Her commandeering the support group so that people who previously focussed on healing were reignited in anger that maintains the pain -- that's her living in her own anger so hard that she's preventing others from being able to heal, or to choose a different life than living emotionally in Gilead despite physically free in Canada. So yeah, maybe I'm not even saying she's good, or bad, because that would be too simplistic. But I hate her characterization in the TV show because the book first depicts her as flawed and surviving, whereas TV show June is irrevocably in need of control regardless of who it harms, and not in a way for personal survival. I hate her for the fact that others are trying to make things better, and she's there superficially looking like a hero but mostly doing things for herself. She gives no fucks to anyone, EVEN WHEN these people are a) her best friend who has ALSO been through the terrible experiences of being a handmaid, and b) her husband, who spent every moment of being free trying to get her to be safe. Did this end up being an essay? Oops.

Dealer's choice Daisy, pick your favourite question and go off!!
hiii ursa <3 this was a hard pick but i do like the question associated w F a lot!! and i'm open to answer it multiple times lmao im sure there's other dialogue i've written that i love a lot
F: Share a snippet from one of your favorite dialogue scenes you’ve written and explain why you’re proud of it.
from seungkwan's part of under the sun:
[reader confronts seungkwan, both not sober, thinking that he's playing with their feelings. he says tha the likes them and would have never done anything (including kiss them) if he didn't.]
“I want you here,” he said. “I’m just scared!”
“Of what?!” You raised your voice louder than you meant. Drinking might have been a mistake considering your grip on your emotions had loosened, but you kept going, “Of liking me? If you don’t like me, then don’t kiss me or say you wanna go on a date and start things over–”
“I do!” He said. “I just don’t want to hurt the others because I already love you!”
You stared at him. “What?”
He fumbled with the bracelet. “I don’t want the others to feel bad that I like you so much,” he said, tears threatening to spill over. “And I’m scared that if I like you, then it’s going to be weird. What if they think we’re gross for kissing? Or holding hands? Or liking each other?” He pulled it off, finally getting the tie loose enough. “I changed my mind. I don’t–I don’t want to ruin this. So don’t… Don’t be my friend, then.” He wiped harshly at his eyes. “I don’t want to hurt anyone else.”
“Seungkwan–” You reached for him. “What about how we feel?” What about you? What about how both of you felt? “Why don’t we get to decide that?”
He was already crying, wiping at his face again. “Because all of you mean a lot to me,” he said. “And if we don’t work out, I don’t want to ruin everything. I need it to make sure everyone’s happy.”
“What about you? What about your happiness?”
“It’s not important!” He snapped, swinging his arm down. He had let go, seeing the bracelet disappear from view and into the river.
[and then seungkwan fucks off bc reader is hurt by that happening. bye seungkwan lol]
so like. when i first wrote seungkwan's part of under the sun, i kind of knew the dynamic that he and reader were going to have where they'd have a rockier relationship than others because i think seungkwan would be a lot more conscious of what a relationship means among such a small group of people. which isn't to say that the other's don't consider it--i just think several other members would work past it better.
seungkwan, in comparison, is someone who i think would get in his own head a lot more. as much as he knows the others would never look at him and reader with disgust, he probably knows that sometimes it'd be tiring to be around a couple when the rest of you are essentially single--especially when there seems to be no one else in the world.
i think there's a lot in seungkwan's part that i liked writing (mainly showing cheol in a leadership position) but idk i think about this scene with him and reader, both having been drinking during reader's celebration and just confronting the way they really feel.
admittedly, seungkwan fell really hard for the reader really fast and it's kind of scary to like someone so much--especially when in this version of the fic they're the first person you've felt romantic feelings for. he overthinks and puts the needs of everyone else before his own desires, and argues with the reader as a way of trying to kill his own crush on them.
i personally think a lot of seungkwan's fic builds toward that snapping "my feelings aren't as important as the entire group's comfort and happiness" moment that he has, and i feel like seungkwan (accidentally) throwing the bracelet kind of ties into that. the bracelets were something that everyone (except himself and the reader) had. in throwing it away, he essentially 1. gets what he thought he wanted in pushing the reader away while he also accidentally 2. puts himself on the same level as reader as an "outsider" to the group. reader was the only one without a bracelet in that moment, after all.
i think i stress community and the feeling of belonging a lot throughout UtS and seungkwan's part shows that. the group comes together and is like a family, but reader is still someone who serves as an "outsider" in a sense.
ultimately, it's a heavy scene and i think it delivers what i wanted it to: a breaking point for someone who's been pushing his own needs and feelings aside for weeks. he gives in one day and starts to see what he can have, and then he gets scared when he realizes what it means for everyone else that reader--despite their arguments--still sees him and likes him for who he is.

SF9 MBTI
*Based on my opinion and cognitive functions. May change later*
*Also I am aware they have talked about their types, but they most likely used the 16personalities site. The results are often very inaccurate from there.*
Explanation of functions
*Updated 07/06/22. I have also linked the more thorough mbti profiles of each member through their names.*
...
Youngbin
ISFP (Fi - Se - Ni - Te)
I thought ESTJ at first because of his strong leadership as ExTJs tend to be natural leaders. Youngbin had always taken charge during trainee days despite no assigned leader
Definitely confident that he uses Fi - Te....he seems to be a highly internalized person. Fi is a really internal feeling function. I know the members have pointed it out a couple of times how Youngbin doesn't/didn't talk about his deeper feelings much
Likes being physically active, interest in sports - pretty common with dom/aux Se, especially since Se is like a physical function
Also likely why he has such a cool dance style? I'm not a dancer so idk how to describe it exactly, but he seems to have a lot of fun yet cool vibe to his dancing
Ni can show through his tattoos and the meanings of them, how he mentioned wanting to be a dad (long term future planning/goals is quite Ni)
Also just a thought - just find it cute how he really likes mbti too haha. He's slowly becoming an mbti nerd too
Inseong
ENTP (Ne - Ti - Fe - Si)
Considering how much of a brainiac he is, no surprise he's an Ne dom. So much energy mentally and physically. His Ne-Ti really shows when he's on programs like Problematic Men
Also such a chatterbox(Dom ne things lol)
Has really good developed Fe; definitely the ice breaker of this group. His high Ne energy + Fe, he's never shy to liven up the atmosphere and make ppl laugh...even if it gives everyone else 2nd hand embarrassment lol.
ENTPs are just embarrassing in general jk
He's hilarious and witty like most ENTPs
Impulsive and lowkey vulgar lol
Jaeyoon
ESFJ (Fe - Si - Ne - Ti)
So much Fe in this man...Deeply considerate and kind
A bit awkward, but he doesn't seem too shy. He can be open and friendly, he's openly affectionate towards others(common in Fe)
Seems to like having some sort of structure/routine in his life. Si doesn't have to be super organized, it's having some sense of familiarity and routine, more conventional
However having Ne as the 3rd function gives him new ideas and experiments to try out. He doesn't mind doing new things sometimes
Him and Inseong having the same functions...probably why they're so chaotic together. They're also very different though, so I'm not surprised they used to fight back then
Dawon
ESTP (Se - Ti - Fe - Ni) or ENFJ (Fe - Ni - Se - Ti)
Same functions but different order...just trying to see which one he prefers. He's the trickiest for me
Straightforward and stubborn. Does not give up easily without a fight, which I notice in a lot of Se users. He is also a bit argumentative
Bit of a rebel like a lot of ESTPs....if him escaping from church doesn't prove that then idk what will. Obviously doesn't like to stay still, has a lot of physical energy(Se)
I think he has a strong Fe, which is why he's sensitive....he doesn't or at least tries not to show it, but other's words seem to affect him a lot. Fe tends to care about other's perspective of them
Might be ENFJ bc he is most likely just exaggerating his Fe-Se to fit the mc role. I have no doubts he's a natural jokester, but he really amps up that side of him for the camera. Due to this, I think it really tires him out...He seems to have a more deeper and introspective side off camera. Although ESTPs are also capable of being deep too. E.g my ESTP older sibling loves reading and writing poetry, listening to soft and meaningful songs, etc.
Zuho
ENFJ (Fe - Ni - Se - Ti)
Has a very strong use of Fe, he's very social and outgoing. Very charismatic and charming. Dude is friends with so many people. Genuinely loves connecting with others
SF9's hands tattoo on his thigh....such an Fe-Ni thing to have. He put a lot of thought into his tattoos, even thinking of the future implication of him showing it off and explaining his story to those curious.
Like a lot of Ni users, he's invested about his work. A lot of Ni users tend to focus on a path and work on that for life. E.g me with my art; although I haven't drawn as much as I used to, it's still a goal to become an artist. It's always been a part of my life, so I really can't imagine a future without it. I'm sure Zuho feels the same way and so continues to improve with his writing and producing skills. Music gives him meaning to his life
Rowoon
INFP (Fi - Ne - Si - Te)
So weird
Well spoken...ne tends to talk with a lot of metaphors. Not only is he well spoken, he is also very talkative
He seems more reserved when around unfamiliar people(Fi is more private). But his Ne definitely comes out with his members and other ppl he feels close with
Always works hard to prove he's more than just a pretty face; Fi - Te makes him want to develop himself more
Good use with all his functions. Organized and a bit nagging, he doesn't seem to like it when things get too hectic. Although he's chaotic himself lol, when the others get too rowdy, he usually tries to quiet them down.
Taeyang
ISFP (Fi - Se - Ni - Te)
Maybe it's his Scorpio moon I'm reading, but I always found Tae to be intense. Fi doms (IxFPs) can be kind of intense sometimes
Fi makes him want to be unique and individualistic
Se is focused on the present moment and uses the 5 senses...Tae gains inspiration from his surroundings, always looking at physical things
Also the way he dances...mans got no bones or something. Not all se doms/aux are automatically good dancers, but they have the highest chance to be able to dance the way Taeyang does
But idk why he's so clumsy lol
Ni is usually focused on long term planning and goals. Tae wants to focus on having an androgynous and eye catching vibe with his performances
Hwiyoung
INFP (Fi - Ne - Si - Te)
He's so weird in like....a chill way. He's dorky. INFPs have a scale of being very intense or soft like Hwi. He's probably the most soft hearted in this group. Rowoon is in the middle I guess, he's kinda chaotic
Has strong opinions he's not afraid to share
Quite honest about his feelings, how sensitive and emotional he is
Has the Ne optimism and according to Chani, strange/unrealistic ideas
Chani
INTJ (Ni - Te - Fi - Se)
The lame Ni humor he has
The way he talks and writes...in a letter he wrote to Hwi for his bday, he briefly mentions their past and focuses more on their future(ni tends to be future oriented). Like many ni users, does not have the best memory
Straightforward and honest, very hardworking(Te). He's also quite realistic and the type to give advice instead of comfort. Very Te thing to do, as Te doms/aux would rather give a solution to a problem
Bit impulsive, reactive(inferior Se). Also SO slow
Expressionless...INTJs are notorious for being expressionless and seemingly emotionless
Also an INTJ myself, he is too relatable to not be one

anyway, in light of harry potter happening again, here is a list of UK trans charities and here is a list of some of the less-advertised TERF dogwhistles. They aren’t all automatic signals (using “transsexual” instead of “transgender” could mean they’re transphobic, but it could also mean they’re just an older queer person who didn’t keep up with the change in language/felt the older term described them better) and it’s not all-inclusive, but it’s a good start once you’ve got an idea of how to recognize the shape of their arguments.
I’m not aware of what they’re up to as much on tumblr (because a lot of the big voices are the kind of ppl who don’t have tumblr and i follow more explicitly activist ppl on twitter) but I’d imagine it’s generally the same. One not included in the link is the checkered flag emoji (bc gender is ~black and white~). Also keep an eye out for anyone using LGB in general contexts where you’d expect the full LGBT acronym to be used, in particular the LGB Alliance, which is a “charity” masquerading as supporting lesbians, gay men, and bisexuals, while being explicitly transphobic and trans exclusionist. People closely involved with its founding and leadership in various roles have spoken at events and expressed support for right wing groups like the Heritage Foundation.
If you live in the UK, also consider sending a comment to the BBC and adding your voice to those on platforms orgs like them actually care about, by tagging them on Twitter/Facebook/etc asking why they continue to publish and support transphobic content, and why the general policy seems to be (both by observation and by the reports of trans ppl turning down offers to appear) that trans people must be accompanied/”balanced” by appearances from TERFs, but TERFs are allowed airtime with no contradiction or argument.

I go feral for all of violetine's tropes but the one that really gets me is co-leaders I just!!!! *clenches fist* it's about meeting someone who changes your entire perspective on things, who inspires you to stand up and assert yourself, and who stands with you for support whenever you need!!! and I always always always pick "violet's the leader" when talking to Minnie option bc!!!!!!! give her that reassurance!!! they are absolutely equals and they both understand that but in that specific scene, considering who they're talking to,,, that's one of my favorite choices in the entire season.
ME TOO ANOOOON 😭💕💕 youre so right!!! i always pick it because even tho vi and clem are equally working together (vi leading the school, clem planning the attack, both looking out for the kids) violet is still technically In Charge at that point
i never want to be like "yeah IM the leader" when clem hasnt officially been given that role. violet took that role begrudgingly after marlon died and now clem is helping her be confident in that role. clem really helps violet become confident in her overall abilty to lead the group and have faith in her ability to maintain relationships. even tho violet didnt think she was good with other people, she was!!(like with aj, and tenn) shes a great leader and together theyre AMAZING AND UNSTOPPABLE
and minnies response to picking that option SHOWS how violet is developing. "really? the violet i knew could barely stand to talk to people, let alone play class president" (also what a mean thing to say to your (technically ex) gf)
like 😭😭 shes gone from walling herself off from others and pretending she doesnt care about them to taking on the main leadership position and trying her best to keep all of these kids safe 😭 and clem gave her that confidence
violet protecting clem and aj i think was the true turning point of this. she stood up to all of her friends to protect them. then marlon and brody die, and in the chaos she steps into the leadership role when no one else would and takes it seriously even tho shes just as scared as the rest of them. like she literally agrees to the vote Only to keep everyone safe even tho she hates it and is fighting so hard for clem and aj to stay ("someone else might get hurt. i cant risk it im sorry")
clem is looking for someone she can rely on (for both herself And aj, who wont leave or betray her) and she finds that 😭 and by the end vi and clem are making plans together about how to handle the caravan and just 😭😭 CO LEADERSSSS

it's so funny to me when ppl say that ben and darius are just friends (not even good friends!! just friends) bc like. are we watching the same show
THEY WHAT. JUST FRIENDS…. Just friends are like. darius and sammy. sammy and brooklynn (barely tho theyre teetering on good friends cause girl trio), kenji and ben (The truth. basing these off interactions in canon. i do see the potential for good friends though), ben and sammy, ben and brooklynn, yaz and darius (despite the siblingtude from s1-2)
ben and darius are clearly good (even best imo) friends just based off how much they work off each other like. I’m baffled some people think they’re less than that. obvious best friends would be darius and brooklynn, darius and kenji, yaz and sammy (but more than that), ben and yaz (less obvious but i have a post coming up on that. good friends at the very least) so i get if people are not seeing ben and darius on the same level of those BUT CASUAL FRIENDS??? Man idk if i had to live with guilt for a month about whether or not i dropped a member of our group and then was reunited and almost exchanging my ticket off the island to go find him and then having all that tension accumulate in a little fight because i refused to leave him i would not consider that one of my regular casual friendships thats best friendism. on ben’s side being so worried that he took up most of the watch shifts we see + his inability to finish saying what they were gonna do to darius compared to everyone else’s reaction??? LIKE…that’s personal. that’s not just “i’m worried bc he’s our friend and leader”. esp when ben has been taking on some of the leadership job likeeeee i see where this is going

Sorting of A3! cast
Today! I felt like playing the Sorting hat from HP. This won't be some hard analysis post, it's just me messing around, and procrastinating. Obviously I'll also explain why i put them there. If you have different opinions be my guest, comment them, dm 'em, do whatever ya feel you want to do to them.
Also, feel free to use the tier list that will be at the end of this very, very long post. (Yes, that's me being cruel)
ANYWAY, let's start:
🌸 SPRING
Tumblr media
Sakuya
I was contemplating about Hufflepuff because let's be honest, he is a picture-perfect badger. He's hardworking, loyal to the core, not to mention the kindness his little body holds. But, a big B.U.T. let's not forget this boy acts before he thinks, and he's far more confident than he let's on. I mean HE was acting with a god damn bird with a shite scrip, and ONE person watching... that takes guts. Not to mention when Itaru was trying to leave, a Hufflepuff would accept his decision, but noo, stubborn Saku over here stops him bcs he knows Itaru enjoys acting, and that's all he needs to know! (Who cares what Itaru thinks is right). Final thoughts, Saku looks like Hufflepuff from outside, but he's Gryffindor at heart. …That was too deep MOVING ON.
Tsuzuru
If Omi is the mom and Sakyo the dad, then Tsuzuru is the god damn nanny. He is the definition of Huffle., he can cook, clean, study, help younger members with their homework, and make sure they won't kill one another, at. the. same. TIME! Not to mention his devotion to his family runs deeper than Chikage's secrets.
Citron
Oh this guy, say whatever you want, but Citron, in my eyes, belongs in Slytherin. He tricked everyone into thinking he was nothin' more than a bizarre looking exchange student, for 7 CHAPTERS plus a few events. Meaning, it took them year and something to find out the truth, and that was only because of Guy. He also showed great leadership and wits in EP8, plus he enjoys coming up with white lies about himself. And let's not forget his display of fraternity with his devotion towards his people and family. Citron was ready to throw away everything he loves for his kingdom, think what you want of those green hermits, but they are known for having a strong kinship.
Chikage
... Do I even need to explain this one? Chikage is definitely the type of Slytherin who will lure you with his tricks and sweet lies, and next thing you know you are his lab rat for the whole year. And I bet you love it too! He is also really protective of those he sees as his family.
Masumi
Trust me, I did consider Slytherin for him, but after more thinking and rethinking I come to the conclusion that no, he shall be RAVENCLAW. Here is why, Slytherin would never, and I mean NEVER display their affection towards someone as obviously as Masumi does. He can also memories anything he deems important, and is most likely candidate to be neck in neck with Banri when it comes to intelligence.
Itaru
Okay hear me out. A game obsessed Ravenclaw who acts nonchalant all the time, got suddenly asked a question by his teacher, and him ,not even looking away from his game, answers in a snap! I mean, how cool is that?! Not to mention Itaru is smart when he wants to be, plus he is the president of Mankai nerd group. Definitely expert on Muggles stuff.
☀ Summer
Tumblr media
Tenma
He literally represents sunflower which symbolizes the sun! Plus he's expressive, like if he hates something, he will say it, with no regard of your emotions. Also, how ironic is this, someone who is easily frighten got sorted into house that represents bravery. I'm sure Slytherins and other Gryffindor's love Hallowe'en and April Fools' Day.
Kazunari
Makes friends easily, easy-going, up to date , accepting, imaginative, people-pleasing should I continue? In other words, Kazu would experience "Malfoy moment" with the Sorting hat. It wouldn't even touch his head and it would scream "HUFFLEPUFF". Definitely has a lot of questionable contacts.
Kumon
Do I even have to give a reason? He's energetic, to the point of being a sugar addict, he makes friends easily, hardworking, naïve. He definitely hoped to be sorted into Gryffindor though. But after learning more about his house, and meeting all the interesting people in it, he become a proud Hufflepuff! Also, he gets easily overprotective of his house, and gladly shows that poking a sleeping badger isn't worth it. He also, undoubtedly, made it into Hufflepuff Quidditch team.
Misumi
This guy, I will gladly say why I sorted him into this mysterious house. First of all, he is hard to get a read on. Second of all, he definitely isn't Gryffindor, he isn't a hot headed jock who likes to show off, he isn't as wise and stuck up to be in Ravenclaw, and he's too airheaded and yet more resourceful to be a Hufflepuff. Let's not forget that he's an amazing actor = deception, he lives more in his inner world and he's far more observant then some gives him credit for.
Yuki
He would wish to be sorted here just to spite Tenma. Something definitely happened in the Hogwarts express and me, as the gracious Sorting Hat that I'm, gladly sorted him in between those ambitious folks who would surly made for a good mannequins models. Let's nor forget that Yuki has a way of making people do what he wants, and that takes clever and witty mouth full of blackmail on everyone.
Muku
He's a nerd. … You want more? Really?! Well, among the Summer troupe he's definitely the brain, not really encouraging one but that's where our 3 airheaded, and happy go lucky brain cells come into play. And don't let me start about how he will passionately rumble about every new topic he learned. He also lacks athletic and social attributes, not to mention he is too innocent to be among the edgy kids. But let's be honest, he definitely cheers, very loudly, when watching Quidditch.
🍁 Autumn
Tumblr media
Juza
Was actually thinking about putting him in Gryffindor, BUUT Juza boi over here, will try go for the pacifist route if he can help it. Definitely a great material for Quidditch team but refuses to pursue said path. Until of certain Raven cousin who, by forced , was made to play and afterwards was gashing about the great feeling. Juza puts his family first and won't hesitate to fight for them. People are easily threatened by him even though he is trying to avoid aggressive confrontations. He is Sakuya's opposite, his exterior screams lion yet he is a kind and loyal badger.
Omi
This guy, say whatever you want, but i think the hat ,aka me, didn't even hesitate when it was put on him. Omi is caring with everyone, a Hufflepuff mom if you will, but he has his close group that if you mess with, he won't think twice about showing his sharp ass teeth. And let's be honest, badgers can, and will, bite our fingers off if we pissed them off.
Taichi
He definitely whined when he was sorted, Taichi wanted to be sorted into Gryffindor, but no, he got the most contrasting house to the brave lions. Guess who turned his view upside down?~. THATS RIGHT our Hufflepuff mom! After Taichi saw Omi, who he thought will be sorted into Gryffindor, he started to contemplate his view on things. But the final nail in the coffin was when he saw Omi angry. One word "Cool~"
Banri
Banri, our dear Banri. He's a Slytherin, through and through. Yes, he has the brains to be Ravenclaw, and I did consider it, but after a thorough analyzation I come to the conclusion that Banri B would never use people to achieve his own means. Yes, I just insulted all the ravens, but it's not like they are hiding this about them, they even warn you about it! Anyway, Banri is a cunning and witty bastard who knows too much, and everything comes natural to him, yet he isn't showing his powers off, like some lions, and it pisses many people off. That's why he loves potions, no one is looking at him since they are focusing on their shitty potion so it won't explode.
Azami
The first thing this boy did when he got sorted, was stick his tongue out to Sakyo ,who thought he will be sorted into Gryffindor. Imagine the stoic Ravenclaw looking genuinely shock, LOL. Azami from the very first start embraced his house to the fullest for two reasons; 1. to piss Sakyo off, and 2. because Slytherins aesthetic is such a Dark academia in green that he's slowly becoming obsessed with his own house because of it.
Sakyo
Another "Malfoy moment", Sakyo was as stoic as ever, but we saw that little smirk~ It feels good when your deduction that you spend 5 nights going through while your blood was slowly turning into coffee, was correct. And then Azami came, and turned his 100% correct deduction into 99.9% correct. Most definitely took over the whole Ravenclaw tower in his 1 year.
❄ Winter
Tumblr media
Tasuku
Another student who had his "Malfoy moment" when he was being sorted. And you can bet that after meeting Saku and Tenma he thought that Saku was too "gullible " to be Griff., while Tenma was the cliché lion .Buut, after one week his view turn 180° when he learned that Tenma is the gullible kitty among the lions, and Saku is stubborn when he wants to be. Definitely will become the head boy with the biggest headache as a bonus.
Tsumugi
Surprised? Yeah you weren't the only one. After he was sorted the WHOLE room went silent. And all Tsumi said was "Oh my" with his angelic smile! Who ever made bets in Hogwarts express that Tsumu will end up in Hufflepuff, Slytherin or in Ravenclaw lost a lot of money. (Unfortune souls: Citron, Chikage, Itaru, Tenma, Kazu, Taichi and Banri). This guy is way stubborn then he lets on, and competitive to the point of him tricking others into random competitions.
Azuma
He is just snake man, and not because of his house. If Kazu has questionable contacts, than Azuma is on another level of questionable. This man will get you anywhere, whenever, also will sell stuff that aren't easily attainable for a . . . price. And don't let me start on how he has half of the school around his, with well polished nail, finger! I.e no one was surprised when he got into Slytherins.
Hisoka
"I don't care" man was pleading with me, the sorting hat, to change my answer after he saw the expression Chiakge was making. Who knows what is going on between these two~ But someone who is tranquil and emotionless like Hisoka to show such a surprise face was definitely entertaining. Also, he undoubtedly found every secret passageway, corridors' and rooms the Hogwarts can offer.
Guy
No one was surprised. This man is walking encyclopedia and everyone knows it and respect him for that. He's that kind of Raven. that will charge for his tutoring everyone, expect for Citron who, accordioning to Guy doesn't need tutoring. Everyone would like to defier, but if Guy isn't tutoring Citron, than what are they doing during Guy's tutoring lessons ? This definitely become one of the many Hogwarts mysteries.
Homare
"Oh hark my vibrant soul, as we shall ascend into the house of azul blue, packed with wisdom and old, it will surly bring us never-ending fascination and immense carnal!" Don't look at me like that! After being sorted he spew out that and then went his merry way. He is the artistic Raveclaw that could care less about potions or spells that doesn't have anything to do with his passion. His devotion to his chosen hobby makes him a perfect Rawenclaw. Homare and Itaru are definitely close, considering they are the only ones with such a big love for muggle world.
/////////////////////////////
The End
That concludes my sorting of A3! cast. I hope you enjoyed this, and didn't took any offense by this post since it was simply for comic purposes. Anyway, hope you have great day/ night ฅ^•ﻌ•^ฅ

Bit of a random question but do you think there was more than one personification of Vietnam? I think (based on reading a couple wiki pages) that there was a whole thing with north and south kingdoms even before the Vietnam war so idk.. plus a lot of south ocs for the Vietnam war itself..... idk just like to hear your thoughts
ok whoa this is gonna be LONG. I want to fully explain the history so maybe people can get a better understanding of the whole thing, since I feel most people just don’t really know much about our history or believe in misinformation. gonna throw in a fair amount of personal thoughts too. so I’ll do that rather than only stating my hcs and opinions without context... so yeah big long response under the cut.
but thank you for asking! this is like... a very personally relevant topic to me? I myself am not a scholar of Vietnamese history and politics or anything, but I grew up in a family of them, along with generally being a Vietnamese-American person and a child of refugees, and so this stuff has always been really important to me. I’m gonna discuss 3 facets of the questions about who Vietnam is and who she represents:
1. pre-1700s Vietnamese history, stretching back through the times of pre-Chinese domination
2. colonial and 20th century Viet history, including the Vietnam War
3. not directly related to your question, but I think it’s relevant to the central concept of “who is Vietnam”: Vietnamese diaspora and my general thoughts on nationhood/representation
also cw for like. war and colonization and turmoil. anyways here’s the history plus my thoughts, feelings, and opinions.
1. pre-1700s Vietnam
origins of the Vietnamese people
I’ve mentioned this before, but I hc Vietnam (who I’ll just be calling Linh throughout this to refer to the character, for clarity’s sake) as a northerner. this is because the ancient Vietnamese people were a group of tribes (Yue, Nanyue) who lived across southern China and northern Vietnam, specifically around the Red River and its delta, where modern-day Hanoi sits. the modern Vietnamese Kinh ethnic group (~85%) are descended from them.
Tumblr media
the Cham people (who are now an ethnic minority) controlled the central to south part of the country for over a thousand years— however, their culture is completely different. they were seafarers arriving from Borneo (Malaysia), and like many other Southeast Asian civilizations, adopted many aspects of Indian culture from language and religion to architecture and law. their kingdom, Champa, was very much ethnically, genetically, and culturally separated from the Vietnamese of the north until the 18th century.
What Actually Happened during this period (~250BCE - ~1650 CE)
several kingdoms and dynasties existed in that area around the Red River delta starting in the 3rd century BCE. however, Han-dynasty China invaded the area known as Nam Việt/Nanyue in 111 BCE and thus began a millennia of Chinese domination. this period was interspersed with various revolts, independent kingdoms, and constant clashes between the Vietnamese and their Chinese conquerors. many of our folk heroes are folk heroes because they said “fuck you” to the Chinese back in these days, including the famous Trung sisters.
Vietnam was very powerful and stable once it gained independence in 939 CE and established its first dynasty. this soon becomes the kingdom of Đại Việt in 968, which lasts until the 1800s. thus, this is the name Linh has been under for the most time across her life. you have to remember, though, that Nam Viet and later Dai Viet still only covered that north/central area of modern-day Vietnam at first!
Tumblr media
Champa (green) was founded a few centuries after that pre-China period in the north, in the year 192 CE. it quickly absorbed Indic influences from its neighbors (such as the state of Funan, which was centered even further south on the Mekong Delta. religious influences included Hinduism and Islam.) the kingdom reached its peak through the 7th-10th centuries, although it gradually declined and was eventually completely taken apart by several events. notably: a war with the Vietnamese in the 15th century which they lost very badly, Dai Viet’s gradual southward expansion beginning in the 11th century, and annexations of their remaining principalities ending in the 17th century. thus, the ethnic Vietnamese eventually took over the full area we now know as Vietnam.
ok, so what about hetalia?
to answer your first question: no, I don’t personally hc there being more than one “Vietnamese” personification during this time. The Cham people as previously stated were one of several groups living in what’s now South Vietnam; however, they are very different in many ways, and so I don’t consider the personification of Champa to be Vietnamese. (this is unlike how North and South Korea are both Koreans.)
I do think there was a personification of Champa-- is, really, since the Cham people are one of the most significant ethnic minorities in Vietnam-Laos-Cambodia. whoever they are, they probably live in Cambodia, since their population is largest there (there was a large migration after the dissolving of Champa to neighboring areas).
I’ve mentioned this, but I headcanon that personifications represent their peoples and cultures as a whole rather than specific pieces of political leadership. for example, several power splits occurred during this time (can google Mac/Le dynasties or Trinh/Nguyen lords, where the country was divided by different ruling families) but I would personally consider Linh representing both sides of that.
2. colonial to 20th century Vietnam
French Indochina
I won’t go into too many details here, but basically the French split Vietnam into 3 colonies: Tonkin, the north; Annam, the central region; and Cochinchina, the south; each one had a slightly different status under French governance. Laos and Cambodia were later incorporated. throughout this period, the Vietnamese people were continuously revolting for independence. this nationalism sparked movements moving away from royalism/regressive goals and toward modernization and radicalization, and of course all of it was cracked down on by the French.
after Japan’s ruinous takeover of Indochina at the end of WWII and the abdication of the last Vietnamese emperor (essentially a French puppet), the French tried to reassert themselves, but a new group called the Việt Minh stood in their way. (this group was led by Ho Chi Minh, and had been formed as an anti-Japanese/French group composed of north-central Communists and Viet-nationalists. they had received some support from the US during WWII as well, and are the foundation for the current Vietnamese government today.)
the first and second Indochina Wars
the conflict between the Viet Minh and France/America/a state created by France called the State of Vietnam is referred to as the First Indochina War, and it mostly took place in the north (fka Tonkin). the Viet Minh eventually won the war. an agreement was reached with France to have the Viet Minh take the northern half of the country from the line of the 17th parallel to create North Vietnam, and the State of Vietnam would cover the southern half.
Tumblr media
later known as South Vietnam or the Republic (of Vietnam), this state was backed by the US and was led by the infamous Ngô Đình Diệm, and lots of crazy shit happened on both sides. once again won’t go into it bc you can just google, but basically things were not going well and the conflict was not over by a long shot. millions fled the North for the South to escape Communist persecution.
starting in 1956, a group called the Việt Cộng, a group of armed communists, initiated a guerilla war to overthrow South Vietnam and “unite” Vietnam. this, of course, is the Second Indochina War, better known in the US as the Vietnam War, and was fought between North and South Vietnam. as time went by, the Viet Cong were boosted then essentially replaced by North Vietnamese troops (like, from the government, since the guerilla warfare was overlapped by more conventional tactics and they needed help.) the North was backed by the USSR, PRC, and Laotian/Khmer communists; the South was backed by the US, South Korea, and several others. by 1973, the US withdrew completely, and in 1975 Saigon (the capital of South Vietnam) was captured. this marked the end of the war, and the beginning of “reunification.”
personifying South Vietnam?
clearly, there was an incredible amount of turmoil and violence and complexity within these wars. I’ve given the briefest of rundowns, and hopefully it’s even somewhat adequate to express just how bad things were, to show just how serious this all is, and just how little of it I can capture in my own musings about country people.
that being said. do I think there were separate North/South personifications during this time?
my answer is... no. for several reasons: firstly, as previously stated, there has never really been a South Vietnam Personification in my view, and there’s not much of a historical precedent for it. the divide only seriously began when the French split the country, which tbf is a long time, but idk if it would affect Linh herself seeing how old she is. after all, South Vietnam only really existed as an independent state for about 20 years.
secondly, north and south have different cultures for sure, but I don’t believe they’re culturally different enough to warrant separate personifications. government wise is a different story, but culturally Vietnamese people don’t have a large divide, and most of us consider ourselves Vietnamese at the core, not South Vietnamese or North Vietnamese. will discuss exceptions in a second.
thirdly, this war is often seen as a civil war, and I’m of the personal hc (maybe inspired by (un)civil, tbh!) that if nations have different “manifestations” of the belligerents, they don’t have separate bodies. basically what I mean is I think both “North Vietnam” and “South Vietnam” were separate concepts, sure, but they both existed at the same time in Linh’s body. does that make sense? I hope it does.
thus, my opinion is that there wasn’t a South Vietnam personification, but rather as Vietnam began to fragment ideologically in the 1930s (with those revolts against the French), more and more internal conflict built up in Linh’s body.
(and it’s not like that went away come 1975; no, I’d argue it became even worse. one must understand that there wasn’t just a north-south conflict in the realm of politics. this was a government-people conflict, too. if you look up land reform in North Vietnam, re-education camps, you’ll see what I mean. so I do think there was a lot of internal conflict for Linh throughout this whole period, just for many, many more reasons than is usually portrayed.)
3. who is Vietnam today?
well, it’s time for me to give my completely unsolicited opinions and thoughts even harder!
Vietnamese diaspora
this is a question I’ve been thinking about for a very long time, as a member of this very diaspora. does Linh represent her diaspora, too? do nations claim their diasporas? there are about 4.5 million overseas Vietnamese, with about half in the US, and that’s not a small number. so does Linh represent these people at all? especially if they were born in Vietnam and then moved, does she still represent them, or does someone else like Alfred? what about their children? is it about birth, even? residency, citizenship? self-identification? or just being inside the border?
the Viet diaspora also kind of throws a wrench into things because many of them are ardently nationalist, but specifically South Vietnamese nationalist. in places like France it’s more divided, but Viet-Americans especially are generally very antagonistic toward North Vietnam / the current Vietnamese government, as they literally left the country because of the regime. so do their nationalistic beliefs in the Republic create a personification? is this justification for some kind of cultural basis for a South Vietnam? I don’t think so, because at the end of the day it’s all for the sake of Vietnam period, not north or south. there are some northerners like this too. people aren’t monoliths. but...
really, just lots of questions. I don’t really have answers, honestly. I can throw out my personal feelings and thoughts, but it’s just hard to say, and I don’t think I’ll ever really have The Answers.
(( in my heart of hearts, though, I’d like to think... individuals and groups can be represented by many nations. I want to think they can feel anyone who considers themselves a part of that group, feel their pains and joys just as much as they do for their born-and-bred citizens. I like the idea of Linh deeply understanding her diaspora, because she was there when they were still a part of her, and she knows why they had to leave. and I think Alfred understands all the people living with him, and he ardently wants to make them welcome. I think he knows the dread of being alone, lost, without a home or family, looking to blaze a new trail, make a new home, find new comfort when everything else is lost... ))
a little bit about me
Viet-American. refugee family from both the North and South. literally all of the events I’ve mentioned, my family has been a direct part of somehow. I have direct relatives who were killed by the French, starved during the Japanese occupation, killed by North Vietnamese government efforts like land reform, killed by American bombs and Viet Cong, put into re-education camps, fled Vietnam by boat, plane, foot. I don’t think there’s a single Vietnamese person today who hasn’t been affected somehow.
I’m not trying to write a sob story, just letting you know. I’m not pity-fishing, because that’s not what this needs, anyway. just showing that things are really complicated, and painfully shitty, and crazy, and just plain weird. Vietnamese nationalism is a really complicated topic in general due to all the conflicting pressures from all levels of society and so I hope you can see that a little better. I hope this was enlightening in some way!
because I don’t think we see the Vietnamese perspective enough on everything that happened in the 20th century. it’s always the American, or French, or Chinese, but not ours... when it’s our story. so I hope I could tell it, maybe do it a bit of justice, who knows.
final words
writing this has really made me think about this one song. it’s called Gia Tài Của Mẹ, “A Mother’s Legacy”. here’s the lyrics+translation.
it’s very typical patriotic South Vietnamese music, by the poet Trịnh Công Sơn and sung by the singer Khánh Ly. many of Trinh Cong Son’s songs directly address the Vietnamese identity and collective trauma from the events of the 20th century. my dad used to sing them around the house all the time, play CDs, the first songs I learned on the guitar were TCS’s... I think they’re a really key part of thinking about the Southern Vietnamese identity, and this song especially touches on a lot of the history and emotions I addressed.
so go give it a listen, or look at the lyrics. I think it really covers this topic nicely. and let me know if I should talk more about these songs, because I think lots of them are really relevant to my thoughts...
ah, my thoughts, completely unasked for, but thank you for opening the door! please let me know what you think, if you learned anything, if you want to hear more specifically hetalia stuff abt Vietnam, idk, I would really like to hear from anyone reading this period. I also put a lot of time into putting this together dkfjsdkfj so yea any interaction is appreciated. this is something really important to me, I guess is what I’m trying to say. and if you made it this far I’m sending you lots of love, thank you <3

It's alright if u don't wanna answer this cuz this argument gets people really riled up but do you think c!Techno is a tyrant or nah?
Cuz many c!techno apologists argue that he isn't just cuz he's an anarchist but I've also read a lot of essays that go against it and it'd be really interesting to see ur opinion on this
i think he, in some contexts, can most definitely be called tyrannical, yes. a tyrant? no.
to avoid spamming ppl w discourse we've all def heard before (and bc this ended up MASSIVE (like 2.3k ish), but fairly in depth bc i didnt wanna speak out of bad faith and wanted to be EXPLICTLY clear-- oops), the rest will be under readmore
so heres the thing i want to preface: i used to really LOVE c!techno. i joined beginning of s2, right when exile started, and he was arguably my favorite character. since then though i've fallen out with him a LOT, to the point i almost... actively despite him at times (though mainly in a toxic kind of way which i can acknowledge is flawed).
in short, his actions started to speak louder than his words and i lost investment in his personal character struggles because of the actions he took (doomsday was my breaking point. i get feeling angry and betrayed, as well as seeking revenge against lmanberg, but his actions went too far for me to CARE and it hurt so many more characters as well.)
so when i speak, i come from a place of disliking him but also somewhat understanding the position c!techno apologists come from: i used to be one of them myself.
NOW, do i think he's a tyrant? no. for reference in my analysis, i try to look up the definition of terms to make sure they are utilized properly. while "tyranny" and "tyrannical" can have multiple uses, tyrant itself is a more specific term. to combine the top two definitions, a tyrant is referring to "an extremely oppressive, unjust, or cruel absolute ruler (who governs without restrictions, especially one who seized power illegally.)"
techno's position as an anarchist, imo, DOES indeed make him unable to be a tyrant. tyrants are rulers with very clear power over others from a structural way. anarchists are about the lack of structure or power over others and instead viewing the people around you as equals in power.
in forming the syndicate, they very explicitly worked to not designate a leader and instead make it so that no one would have any power over the others systemically. techno may have taken a integral role, yes, but it doesn't make him suddenly "the leader", its a role that wouldve had to be filled by someone (even if it was democratic to decide who to invite, they'd need someone to hand over the invite itself yknow? like no matter WHAT there needed to be A ROLE)
one could argue that he IS a leader in the shadow hierarchy of the syndicate (which, yes, is a real and professional term used in management courses despite sounding like it comes from a 4kids yugioh dub) in that everyone CONSIDERS and looks to him a leader without him having any actual structural basis behind it, but to argue that allows him to be a tyrant is in bad faith i believe. especially because to the people he would be "ruling", he ISNT oppressive, unjust, or cruel. they are his friends and support network and critical for a lot of his personal development (since feelings of betrayal and trust issues are critical to his character and why he acts the way he does). I wish we were able to SEE this develop more, but oh well.
but like i said: tyrant is fairly specific in definition. TYRANNY, and thus TYRANNICAL are not as limited. I've discussed their definitions here. originally, i made that post because i was angry at a take i had seen that claimed that, like you said, because techno was an anarchist and not part of any government or leadership position, he couldn't be tyrannical. to which i heartily disagree.
for something to be tyrannical, they simply must have an overarching/oppressive power over someone or something. it would not be inaccurate if i were to say that something is "under the tyranny" of a concept, because what it means is that something is under the power of another thing/concept. you can frankly call anything tyranny if it is widespread/overarching and you don't like it. mask mandates? tyranny, its forcing me to act in "rigorous condition". hell, theres even such things as tyranny of the majority in which people agree too much on one thing and it gives them unfair power or tyranny of the minority where people with minority opinions have too much power (thats a very grossly oversimplified definition of both, but it covers the base idea well enough for my point)
the point im making above isnt meant to be taken as "anything can be worked to be defined as tyranny thus it is a meaningless claim", it is that tyranny (and again, thus tyrannical) are very open and nonrestrictive terms.
to make it easier to define, alongside the definitions provided i want to add an explicit clause that is (imo) implied in the original definition: tyranny is... well, bad. that is to say if someone has power over a group but literally everyone is fine with it and agrees to it, its not tyranny. thats just a group of people getting along and one happens to have power over another. a leader does NOT equal a tyrant (as discussed above), so leadership should not be equated with tyranny.
thus as an example: wilbur acting as president (before the election) may have been "unelected" with power over his citizens, but no one was upset with that power. thus, he is not a tyrant and not acting tyrannically (as well as the fact his power was, arguably, NOT rigourous or absolute but thats another topic for another time). SCHLATT however IS a tyrant, as his power was absolute (he did not consult his cabinet) and forced people to comply instead of them complying willingly, thus he was acting tyrannically.
now to finally get to the damn point of this essay: where does c!techno lie? honest answer? it depends slightly on your perspective, but it depends a LOT on the future of the syndicate.
techno is incredibly clear in his goals: no governments, no corruption. in fighting with pogtopia, he is actively working to topple a tyranny-- he isn't tyrannical for doing that.
when he strikes out on nov 16th, it is because he opposes them forming a new government. when they oppose him and disagree, he launches an attack against them. is this tyranny? maybe, but probably not. he IS trying to impose his own physical strength and power (as well as his resources) over the others to stop them from doing what HE doesn't want them to do.
however its more nuanced than that:
1. hes lashing out emotionally as well as politically. he feels betrayed by those he trusted and he believed that they would destroy the government then go (i'm ignoring any debates on if he did or did not know that they planned another government, though it is a source of debate). but typically idk about you but i dont call tyranny for someone fighting with another person.
2. he also may be acting with good intent again, in HIS EYES. if tubbo was part of manburg, whos to say he wont be just as bad? he, in his pov, is likely trying to stop another tyrant before they rise.
3. and finally, and tbh the most damning from any perspective: he gives up. he quickly leaves then RETIRES without intent to try and attack again until he is later provoked. tyranny is defined by it not just being power, but power being USED. if he doesn't use his power to try and impose any will, then he's not tyrannical.
Doomsday I am also not going to touch very in depth on for much of the same reasons. My answer is again a "maybe", depending on the weight you personally place on each issue:
1. he's lashing out as revenge for the butcher army and as revenge against tommy for "betraying" him (though this one we explicitly know he was ignoring the fact tommy did not want to go through with it, however he still did trust and respect tommy regardless so his feelings are understandable anyway)
2. he sees new lmanberg as corrupt and tyrannical (which is undeniable: house arrest for noncompliance, exile without counsel, execution without trial, etc), and thus obligated to destroy it
but also, theres the implicit understanding he's doing this to send a message: do not form a government, or else. its a display of force that also works to warn others unless they want a similar fate. phil even explicitly states that he is doing so to send that message, so one could assume techno is doing the same alongside his personal reasoning listed above.
what i just described is the use of a oppressive and harsh (physical) power in order to gain compliance from people (that compliance being 'not making a government'). does that sound familiar? exactly. it follows the definition(s) of tyranny given previously. technoblade is acting in a way that is, by very definition, tyrannical.
so the debate shifts: is he valid in doing so because he is trying to PREVENT corruption and tyranny. like i said, new lmanberg was undeniably corrupt at points. i held nothing against techno for trying to topple manburg, so does that apply to new lmanberg as well? short answer: i dont know. it depends on your specific opinion of what is acceptable. its like the paradox of tolerance: to have a truly tolerant society, you have to be intolerant of intolerance. to have a truly non-tyrannical society, do you need to have a tyranny enforcing it?
personally (and bc im a lmanberg loyalist /hj) i say it is. regardless of the corruption of new lmanberg, they are also giving a threat to EVERYONE. even those who are innocent, they are presented with the exact same threat and rule set: if you make a government, you will be destroyed.
(which, small divergence here, is part of why debating c!techno is so frustrating. so many times you end up hitting a "well it depends on your political views" situation and there ISNT a correct answer there. im here to analyze characters for fun, not debate political theory)
so: the syndicate then. this is where this debate really "took off" and i think its due to one very specific miscommunication about its goals and plans. the syndicate, upon formation, declares itself to stand against corruption and tyranny. when they are found, the syndicate would work to destroy it. so heres the golden question: what do THEY define as corruption and tyranny? if you were to go off c!techno's previous statements, seemingly "any government" is a valid answer. however, he also states he's fine with people just being in groups together hanging together.
what then DEFINES A GOVERNMENT for them? what lines do they have to sort out what does "deserve to be destroyed" and what does "deserve to exist freely"
this is a hypothetical i like to post when it comes to syndicate discourse:
i have a group of people. lets say 5 or so for example. they all live together and build together. any decisions made that would impact the entire group they make together and they must have a unanimous agreement in order to proceed, but otherwise they are free to be their own people and do their own thing. when you ask them, they tell you they are their own nation and they have a very clearly defined government: they are a direct democracy. does the syndicate have an obligation to attack?
there is absolutely no hierarchy present. there is no corruption present. but, they ARE indeed a government. is that then inherently negative? my answer is fuck no (see the whole "difference between a tyrant and a leader" thing above).
but THATS where the issue of this discourse LIES. in some people's eyes, the answer to that is YES. techno's made it clear "no government" is his personal view, but does that spread to the syndicate as a whole? do they act preemptively in case it DOES become corrupt? is it inherently corrupt because its a government, regardless of how it is ruled? the fact of the matter is because of how little we've seen the syndicate work as a SYNDICATE, we don't know that answer. so we're left to debate and speculate HOW they would act.
if the syndicate were to let that government exist, then they are not tyrannical. they are showing that they are working to stop tyranny and corruption, just like in pogtopia again.
if the syndicate were to destroy/attack that government, then they are tyrannical. simple as that. they are enforcing a rule of their own creation without any nuance or flexibility under the threat of absolute destruction.
miscommunication in debates comes, in my opinion, in the above. of course theres more points of nuance. for example:
would the syndicate allow a government like i had described with early lmanberg, where there is an established hierarchy but everyone in the country consents to said leadership? on one hand, there is no tyranny or corruption present which is what they are trying to work against. on the other hand, theres more a possibility of it occuring. perhaps they'd find a middle road between the two binary options of "leave or destroy" i am presenting, such as checking in occasionally to ensure no corruption occurs.
but if they were to destroy it without, for lack of a better word, "giving it a chance" they would be, in my opinion, tyrannical. they would be going aginst their words of opposing corruption and instead abusing their power to gain compliance.
your/others opinions may differ, again it depends on if you see it as worth it to possibly stop future tyranny or if a hierarchy is INHERENTLY a negative thing.
part of the reason so many blog gave up this debate, beyond not getting very clear answers for the syndicate, is because of the nuance present. there. is. no. right. answer. every single person will view it differently, because there is no universally agreed upon truth of right or wrong here. BUT, i hope this helps shed some light on the discussion and my thoughts on it
