I just really miss pre 2000s Batman. The one that didn’t abuse the kids he saved up from abusive homes and from the streets, the one that loved and raised them. That mourned them and grieved hard enough Alfred thought Bruce would kill himself. Yes he trained them and pushed them to the brink but he still loved them. Ferociously. Step to his family and he steps to you in his 300,000 dollar rich man loafers.

I think there should be more fics with b doing actual Bruce Wayne stuff. Like, he's hardly able to be a recluse vampire with his reputation. Nothing dramatic, just little things.

Going to the nail salon for a mani pedi so he doesn't look like he's been up to his elbows in engine grease and goon fighting.

Spending hours talking with event planners over flower arrangements and colour swatches.

Taking the kids to the tailors and up scale shops for new suits and dresses.

Going to the sun tan places to lie in a sun bed for hours to keep a non gothic skin colour (and hide any cowl tan).

Getting seen at a high end gym occasionally with matching towel and water bottle.

Spending hours at the jeweller's looking at 30k watches.

Going out to meet with work 'friends' for 'gossip' and informal deals and telling them off for being dismissive of the waitress.

Pretending he likes caviar.

Taking a day to go golfing at some rich club of which he's a member.

Doing paperwork with football or baseball or cricket matches playing in the background so he can keep up to date.

Trying out different creams and makeup to cover scars and keep his skin fresh.

Heading to the barbers (or do the barbers go to you if you're rich?) because Alfred made a pointed comment about how long his hair was getting.

Like there's so much people can use with this entire other half of his life! It's full of all these little busy things to just breathe life into it all! I'm a sucker for background life just going on.

Batman being written as an abusive dad always makes me mad, because this is a guy who's entire character is based on becoming obsessed with helping others and then going to superhuman lengths to make people's lives better.

A well written Batman would put himself through Dad themed bat training. As in, when he trained to become Batman, he travelled the world finding the masters of their craft and learning everything he could from them. He should do that, but to become a good dad.

He joins Facebook groups and Reddit pages, he makes Alfred draw up a lesson plan for raising vigilante obsessed kids based on his experiences raising Bruce, he swaps parenting tips with Commissioner Gordon on the roof of the GCPD, making deals with Catwoman to let her get away with stealing stuff as long as she does it during Joker attacks so he can send Robin after her and not send him after the Really dangerous criminals.

He's got files on all his kids, but instead of being full of the usual "Strengths, Weaknesses, How To Take Them Down If/When They Turn Evil" it's all stuff like "Dick always gets clingy the week his parents died, be prepared to cancel patrols to spend time with him. Jason reacts badly to explosions, keep him away from cases that involve bombs." That sort of thing.

Why is writing so hard 😭 I’ve had all my ideas for my current fic jotted down since Nov 28th! Like, chapter synopsis’ and notes written across 15 pages of a notebook. I know the whole plot from start to finish, who the villain is, all the twists and turns.

I know absolutely EVERYTHING that I want out of this fic. I have paragraph upon paragraph of specific scenes I want in my notes app, going down like a MILE

AND I CANT FREAKING WRITE IT!!! TWO AND A HALF MONTHS OF ME KNOWING EXACTLY EVERYTHING I WANT AND IVE ONLY GOTTEN ONE CHAPTER DONE

And I wanted to have everything written down before I posted, so all I had to do was minor edits.

It’s a 42 chapter fic. Plus extra scenes.

Nightwing’s glass shattering scream was thankfully muffled by the glove.

The sound of searing flesh made his stomach knot, and the smell almost made him bring up the patties he just downed. Hood had to use his free arm to lean across Wing’s rib cage to hold the man down. Nightwing was thrashing and fighting hard to move away from the white hot knife.

When I was a little kid I would take like HUNDREDS of videos on my mom/dads phone. Just like of me singing or talking about my day, stuff like that. Now I have a hc that when Dick was little he would do the same thing with Bruce’s and Alfred’s phone. Bruce kept them bc that’s freaking adorable and now there is a folder on the bat computer just of baby Dick’s videos

Dc x Dp Prompt #19: The Slide Show

Bruce invites his kids to to the Manor saying he wants to show them something.

They are filled with dread when he starts pulling up a slide show

They are filled with confusion and anticipation when he pulls up one labeled “Moral, Ethical, and Legal Reasons I Can’t Kill The Joker But My New Co-Worker (and age appropriate love interest for at least 3 of you) Can” with a picture of said new co-worker: a young man, maybe in his mid-20s, who is obviously a meta and/or alien or other, in what seems to be King Regalia beating the shit out Darkseid, underneath.

For once in his life Bruce is trying his life to clearly communicate his thought process, repair his relationship with his family (*cough*Jason*cough*), and to let his kids know he’s chill with it when one of them inevitably tries to hit on this dude. Three birds with one stone really. (Plus he had Alfred approve the slide show before inviting the kids over so he has high hopes for the night!)
