Early stages:

As a partner, during the early stages he'd be very nervous to make the first moves, because he isnt sure yet what you'd like or if you're comfortable with some things.

Would love it if you made the first move though

Like holding hands underneath the cafeteria tables, patting his hair as a 'good job!' after training or just slinging your arm around him

He loves it when you do any physical affection

Poor boy's touch starved, he'll take whatever he can get

Would love parallel play, something about just the two of you, sitting in peace and doing your own things

Its nice and quiet, he isn't overwhelmed and there isn't any preassure to do anything, just the both of you in each other's company

Gives you lots of small gifts, like keychains or fancy bookmarks, anything that suits your taste

One time he even got you a small little plushie and placed it on your desk with no explanation whatsoever

Cuddling comes awkward to him at first, but he comes around after a while

By a while I mean MONTHS

He's just not used to it, hugging is already awkward for him, so its hard for him to just lay in your arms for a long period of time

What does he do? Is there a correct way to cuddle? Should he be doing something? Where does he lay his head?

Would definitely search up 'cuddle poses' online

But he just gets even more confused and goes down a deep rabbit hole about cuddling

Affections/comfort:

When he does come around, that's the way he recharges at the end of the day

After a long day of work and socialising he just wants some peace, quiet and some cuddles from his partner

Would just walk in wherever you were, lie down on top of your torso and just stay there, eyes closed and breathing slowed as he calms down

Would rather be the one being held , adores it when you rub circles into his back to soothe him

Would just randomly lay his head on your shoulder whenever he's tired but can't properly sit down and rest during training

And then at this point, he's more comfortable with initiating stuff

He doesn't know what to do if you're ever in a situation that requires comfort

The boy's a bit dense, okay? He saw Momo crying and asked if she was feeling nauseous, then immediately told her there's a preassure point somewhere to relieve it

Offers you his favourite food or any sort of advice because those things are what usually helps him feel better

Would ask you whats wrong, and try his best to fix the problem instead of reassuring you since he's not really good with comforting people

"Whats wrong?" He asks upon entering the room and seeing you sitting down somewhere, eyes puffy and a frustrated look on your face.

"I'm just really overwhelmed, Shoto, all this work is putting stress on me.." You say, wiping your eyes even though the tears stopped a long time ago.

There was a moment of silence, Shoto stands in front of you, hands awkwardly raised up to his sides unsure of what to do.

"Are you hungry?" He asked, and you just look at him confused.

"I have leftover soba.."

You smile at him, standing up and making your way to the kitchen. He sits next to you and you both just share the plate in silence before he speaks again.

"If you're stressed next time, you can just tell me. I'll help you."

"I have notes for our classes to help you simplify everything. It is essential that a person rests appropriately and avoid overworking themselves." He says, and you can't help but smile, chuckling a little at how punctual he is.

Who would know?:

Isn't one to loudly declare he's in a relationship, in fact people didn't know until it slipped one day.

"Shoto, do you want to go out today?" You ask him whilst passing by the common room of the dorms, he was talking- well, engaging in a one sided conversation with some of your classmates.

"Woah, first name basis huh? You two must be close then Todoroki-kun"

"Well yeah, they're my partner."

"YOUR WHAT?!"

Everyone would bombared you guys with questions after that

Shoto just answers it shortly, keeping it simple

"When did you guys start dating?"

"Three months ago."

"A few months ago?! And you didn't tell us?? Man, i thought we were friends, Todoroki.."

"I hope this doesn't cause you both to slack off during exercises, your education is still important!"

"Wow Todoroki, have you guys done it yet?? Must be nice having a partner~"

Mineta immediately got kicked by you after that

Shoto's indifferent to making your relationship public, if you wanted to or don't want to, he's fine with anything

Would prefer the relationship to only be known to people he actually knew instead of like announcing it to everyone

Example: his class, friends, your family.

Although sometimes he might let it slip because he thinks about you alot in between classes

It would take time for him to talk about his relationship to his family, especially Endevour

Fuyumi would be you guys' #1 supporter and the first one to find out

Natsuo's a little more distant to shoto than Fuyumi is, so he'd be third to find out, right after his mother

Endevour would only be told after like 6 months of dating

Who knows, maybe Shoto would be spiteful enough to not even tell him for years

Public Display of Affection:

Shoto will hold your hands under tables or stay close to you by your side and hold hands if no one's paying attention.

Doesn't like PDA as much, at most he'll hold your hands and lay his head on your shoulder when you're out in public

He just doesn't like showing that very new and vulnerable side of him being affectionate to the world

Plus, it brings his guard down because he's fully relaxed if he's affectionate with you

Thoughts of the future:

Todoroki's the type of person to just slow down and be in the moment with you but then blurt about a highly detailed future with you out of nowhere

You would go shopping and you'd spot him eyeing a plant in a store

When you ask what he's thinking about, he with a straight face say:

"You said you like these. If we get one when we move in together, do you think the two cats we'll have will be disturbing these or would it be fine considering ragdoll cats are mostly known for their relaxed nature? "

"Shoto we haven't even graduated yet!"

If you're a hero too, he trusts you fully to take care of yourself during missions or any villain attacks

Would interfere if he has to, if anything were to happen to you during missions he'd be heartbroken

Going down a spiral of the things he could've done to protect you, to make sure you were safe

He also wouldn't hold back during any training just because your his partner, he believes you both need to grow strong together to become heroes

If you weren't a hero, he'd try his best to protect you if you were ever caught up in his hero nonsense

Totally supports any career you wanted to take up, claiming that he'll be the one to take care of everything financially

I mean, better use Endevour's card for SOMETHING

Wants at least one cat in the house, ragdolls specifically

Kids are not something he has in mind, especially considering he'd like to focus on you and his career

He also doesn't want to end up like his dad

Would consider children if you both are stable in your lives and careers

And if you don't want kids, he's fine with that too

The house would be remodeled into those old Japanese ones like his dorm room, if you didn't like it he'd have at least his work office that way

A little rant over the why I consider that Todoroki Shouto is autistic

Disclaimer: As always, this is just one of my many theories. Please don’t attack me for this, if you don’t like it, scroll and continue with your life. 

This is the third mha character that I have analysed, and I also think he is the least likely to be autistic (strangely enough because he is also the one more often read as autistic). This is because a lot of his actions can also be read  as trauma responses rather than autistic traits, however, this is your friendly reminder that autistic people can (and are actually statistically more likely) to have PTSD. For Shouto, I think it is both autism and C-PTSD.

Insistence on sameness, and difficulty dealing with change

Even though this is not explicitly said anywhere (as far as I know), it’s something that you can definitely notice if you look very closely.

Todoroki remodelled his entire dorm in a day for it to be the same as it was in his home for comfort. He even went to the extent of changing the floors. That shows that he has difficulty dealing with transitions (moving from home, to the dorms).

He is also a very stubborn person, shown in his insistence to only use his ice side for so long. And even though we know this is connected to his trauma towards fire, even after he starts overcoming that, he still heavily relies on his ice, and has a tendency (almost a routine) to always using it first. 

Strong sense of justice

Todoroki has an incredible sense of justice, and not in the ´follow every rule’ way like Iida. Todoroki has never hesitated to break the rules to stand up for what he thinks is right. He literally considered torture in USJ arc, if it meant gaining information that could potentially safe lives. In the Kamino Ward arc, he decided to break the rules and go and save Bakugou because he knew that’s what was right (even if it was illegal). He followed Bakugou and Izuku even though it was dangerous and he technically shouldn’t have, but he still went and fought alongside them. In the ‘World Heroes’ Mission’ movie he didn’t hesitate to help Izuku and tell him how to escape even though he was literally accused of mass murder. I think there are many examples of this in general.

It also shows that he is a very loyal person, which isn’t an autistic trait (I think), just a very cool thing about him.

Recognizes patterns easier than his peers

I have two specific examples for this. 

Calling himself a hand crusher. He definitely recognized a pattern there. He fought with Midoriya -> He injured his hand. He fought with Iida -> Iida injured his hand. Therefore Hand injuries are caused by him (under this logic).

He was quick to figure out why the villains were at the USJ, and that they definitely had a solid plan. (In a similar way, Tsuyu did the same, who I also headcanon as autistic, but that’s off topic).

Speaking differences/struggles

Todoroki has what can be described as a ‘flat tone’. There are only some very specific scenes where he raises his voice, but in general, his voice tone never really changes. Even when delivering jokes, or sarcastic comments, his tone is always the same. 

Struggles with social cues and reading other people tones

I believe this is one of his most recognized traits. He has a lot of difficulty understanding sarcasm and exaggeration when it comes from others, even being told by others that he is ‘too clueless’ (Mount Lady, and Min*ta). He takes things very literally, a good example of this being when Mt Lady told him that girls would die for his smile, and he took it very seriously, to the point where not even under Mr. Smileys quirk he didn't actually smile. 

He also struggles ‘reading the room’ and social cues, having in mind the way that he is convinced that he is friends with Bakugou. (He is. Bakugou is just in denial/hj. They definitely care for each other, and they ARE friends. But Todoroki considered him a friend way before Bakugou even considered it).

Says things directly

Todoroki says things with 0 to no hesitation. He is not afraid at all to call people out. He says things like they are, he doesn't sugar code anything. There are many examples of this, like him fighting with the chief of the police, every possible interaction he has had with Endeavor, him saying that he didn’t even notice Hagakure was with him in the USJ, him telling Midoriya that he is objectively better than him and others. Trauma dumping on Midoriya during the sports festival. This might come out as rude sometimes, but he definitely (mostly) doesn't do it with bad intentions. 

‘Flat’ facial expressions

Same as his voice, his facial expressions don’t really change, and it could be argued that they don't match his emotions. For example when he froze Sero during their fight in the sports festival, and even though he didn’t really looked angry, he apologises and tells him that he was angry. 

Comfort food and being a ‘picky’ eater (term that I don’t personally like, but I’m using to make a point)

Shouto really likes Soba. Especially cold soba. He is seen eating it in the anime, and it is stated in the character profile of the manga’s second volume. He even offers it to Midoriya when he is sad (that was really cute by the way, I do that too. You’re sad? Let me get some chocolate for you!)

It being cold can be because of two things. 

Sensory issues about food temperature.

Him not liking boiling water because of what happened with his mother.

Either way, it is canon that he loves cold soba.

Genetic factor

I am not here to do an Endeavor analysis, but ASD is considered to have a genetic factor and Endeavor has some autistic traits as well, including fixated interests, saying things directly, difficulty with volume control, and others.

This is also your friendly reminder that autistic people are NOT saints and can commit crimes, mistakes, abuse etc. 

Moving on because I don’t enjoy talking about Endeavor /hj

Low empathy and difficulty reading other people emotions

Just like Bakugou, he struggles identifying and expressing his own emotions, and has difficulty relating to other people's feelings. I think a perfect example of that is his interaction with Iida during the Hero Killer arc. He also stuggled with this a lot after Dabi revealed he was his brother, and he definetly had problems grieving him.

He also doesn't really know how to show empathy, I think that’s why he offered soba to Deku. He didn’t know what else he could do to help and show that he cared. And he is usually looking for solutions rather than offering support.

Stimming

Admittedly, I couldn’t find many examples of stimming in him. But I noticed that he has a tendency to rub his finger when he is thinking.

Special interest

Becoming a hero, and in a way, All Might. I don’t have much proof of this rather than a vibe, but he doesn’t have any other interests or hobbies apart from this (apart from reading manga), which leads me to believe it’s his special interest. 

Other details that I want to mention (aka, the headcanon zone)

He is often seen wearing sweaters, which I believe can be a consequence of sensory issues, and he has a very high pain tolerance. He is very observant as well.

I don’t have proof of this, but I headcanon that he is like me, and doesn’t notice that there is something wrong with him unless it’s extreme. I rarely notice that I need to go to the bathroom until I’m about to pee myself. I live constantly dehydrated because I forget to drink water and I don't really get thirsty. And I don’t notice I’m in  pain unless it’s pretty extreme.

If Dabi never became a villain

꒰Touya Todoroki Headcanons + If dabi was a hero + Light Angst + todoroki family꒱

If he never became a villain what would his life look like?

He had run away to the forest to train and had burned himself in the process, he caused a huge fire and almost died. He was sent to the hospital and was treated for his wounds, and he got healed by a doctor who specialises in healing scars so he doesn't have the famous dabi scars everyone knows and loves. (he was 12 btw in my headcanon)

His father enji was so upset at him and at his mother. He threw a temper tantrum over how Rei (his mom) couldn't keep an eye on him while he was gone. Touya had come home after the accident he was all over the news for causing a fire and almost dying.

One day while he was home his mother was in the kitchen and snapped at Shoto and well we all know how the infamous Shoto backstory goes.

Touya, fuyumi and Natsuo all rushed in to help Shoto, while Rei was trying her best to heal the burn she had left behind.

Eventually Fuyumi called the hospital, Enji was contacted about what happened and when he got home he sent Rei to a mental hospital.

Once his mother was sent to the hospital Touya was forced to look after his siblings most of the time because Enji was very busy around that time.

Touya was like his sibling's other parent

Touya would do a lot for them, for example, when his mother left, Shoto couldn't handle the change and had a lot of meltdown because he had autism (they didn't know at the time). Shoto was so used to his mother tucking him into bed so now Touya would do that. He would sing the songs she would sing and all. Shoto really appreciated it even though he never verbally said that.

Touya still resented Shoto for "taking his spot" as the favourite child but he wasn't a monster.

He acted like he hated his father but deep down he still wished he would look his way.

Eventually down the line around 16-18 years old, Touya was heavily involved with alcohol and drugs.

His father tried to convince him to go to rehab. He eventually did but he wasn't happy.

Shoto Todoroki X Autistic Female Reader

You didn't go to U.A high school like your boyfriend Shoto did with his friends but, you did go to Shiketsu Academy. You didn't understand why Inasa hated Shoto so much in the beginning so you asked him. You didn't see anything wrong with your boyfriend so you wanted to understand. 

"Inasa why do you hate Shoto so much? Did he do something to you?" He looked at you for a moment as if put off that you used his first name. It was easier and less confusing to call people by their first names. Last names always had extra letters and some of them you didn't even pronounce. You didn't understand the point of having letters that were not meant to be pronounced. 

"His dad was very mean to me and said I wasn't worth his time when I asked for an autograph. Then with Shoto himself saying the same thing, it bothered me. He tried every which way to sabotage my quirk that's why we didn't get our provisional license the first time." You nodded your head in understanding. You understood why he didn't like his father Enji. You didn't like him either he was very mean to you and he called you 'retarded' which is the r slur that earned him ice to the head from Shoto but, it still hurt your feelings. You were always called that and stupid and played tricks on. You never understood why people were so mean. You couldn't help the way you are, you didn't ask to be born with Autism. It was hard. 

"I understand and I don't like his father Enji either. He's very mean and he treats Shoto like an object instead of a person." Hopefully, you didn't say too much. People told you that you talked too much but, you were just answering questions fully. You didn't know that you were saying too much by doing that. You were learning. 

"...Now that you mention it, he does hate his fireside but, that's his dad's fault. He's a great guy actually now that we both gave each other a chance." You smiled agreeing with him and the two of you talked about Shoto a little more until Camie came. You did not like her too much but, you didn't want to fight or argue so you went quiet. Her perfume gave you a headache and the sound of her leather clothes made your teeth and jaw ache. You handled it though. If you couldn't you would normally play some anime background music to soothe you.

"Hey, Inasa, what are you, like,  talking about?" You ignored the way she didn't talk to you. You didn't care and it seemed Inasa didn't take notice of her not talking to you either. Good. 

"I was talking to Y/N about Shoto before-" All she heard was Shoto and she went on a whole tangent about him. That is why you do not like her. She had a crush on Shoto and she didn't care that you were dating him. She thinks she is a better choice for him. You hated this but, you also hated confrontation so you would just let her talk. Today though, you were feeling a bit braver so you decided to say something before the bravery died down. 

"He is so amazing, his abs are like, so, perfect. I need his number, like, can you give it to me-" You stood up clearing your throat to get her attention. She turned to you with a smile as if she just saw you there. She knew you were there the whole time she was just trying to be cute and pretend. 

"I think you keep forgetting that Shoto is not interested in dating you. He is dating me." Your heart was pounding hard enough to hear it in your ears but, you didn't back down. How can you be a hero if you cannot even stand up for yourself and your relationship?

"I still don't understand why he would date you. He can do so much better. Not someone who holds him back." You frowned at her not wanting to show that she hurt your feelings. You had a good quirk, you can control any form of water while she can create illusions with her breath. Water can do more harm than an individual hallucination. 

"I do not hold him back. I can bend water. That's better than creating hallucinations." You were amazed at the way you did not stutter. You felt adrenaline and excitement course through you. This was the first time you stood up for yourself and you haven't messed up or cried. She snarled at you and turned on her heel. 

"I'll talk to you when the retard isn't here." That was too much. You felt angry tears prick at your eyes but, you didn't want them to fall. That would make her happy and you did not want to do that. Inasa looked shocked and was about to say something when a trail of ice made a beeline for Camie. She only had enough time to turn before she was encompassed from the waist down. 

"What the, Shoto! You're looking, good baby." She seemed to not notice the hateful aurora coming from him in waves. He stood directly behind you with an arm around your waist holding you close. You would have been embarrassed about PDA if you weren't focused on trying not to cry.

"Apologize to Y/N." That was the coldest his voice had ever been. Everyone froze even Camie who looked surprised she was getting this treatment. 

"Why? I didn't do anything wrong." She was playing dumb and it made Shoto even madder. 

"You know damn well you did. You made her CRY!" Camie yelped at the drop in temperature "I don't WANT you. I never wanted a stupid blonde bitch. You are an embarrassment. You call yourself a hero, there is nothing heroic about you at all. She is the best thing to ever happen to me and no one especially an entitled bimbo like you will make me change my mind." He left you and stalked up to Camie who was crying now and a bit scared. As she should be. "Don't you ever go near her again. This is your first and last warning." He melted the ice letting her drop to the floor. "Get out of my sight." He walked away not sparing a glance at Inasa who went to help Camie but, she pushed him away and ran away crying. You were able to focus on Shoto who grabbed you in a hug and pulled your face into his neck. 

"Thank you, Shoto." You took a deep breath noticing he wore the ocean cologne you like. 

"Let me take you home, your mom won't mind me staying, right?" You shook your head no and that was all he needed as he held your hand and walked with you closely to his side.
