Did you know that if you take Gale with you for the wyrmway trials he'll just straight up do the chess lanceboard puzzle for you?

My poor 8 int Auric(and myself) panicked when we saw the thing but then Gale just pops in, tells us how to solve the puzzle and then pings on the board exactly what we need to do.

It was in the moment Auric knew. He's marrying this man. This perfect, nerdy man who can just solve puzzles in his brain like nothing.

Was Auric a healer before his "death"?

Because his death being accidental becomes sheer perfection if he was. A healer is an inherently useful thing to have, but a dead healer is a useless healer.

Mostly I just want the go ahead to imagine Belos being pissed at himself for accidentally killing his only healing inclined Golden Guard, lol.

Nope! I mean, he knew some basic first aid to take care of himself after injuries, but healing was noooooot exactly encouraged as a subject of study. Belos wants his enemies DEAD, and having a golden guard who can undo the damage if they have second thoughts is... not a good plan.

Auric became a healer BECAUSE his death was an accident. At first he held onto this confused "Well, Belos didn't MEAN to kill me, it was an accident, it's not the same, it wasn't good, but I'm sure he was upset that it went so badly" mentality. He started getting into healing, because if only SOMEONE around had been able to help him... if Belos had been able to save him after the accident...

Then, as he got more into healing, he realized that while the throat slashing was an accident, the "death" was NOT. Belos COULD have helped. He could have saved him, if he'd just gotten him to a healer, if he'd taken basic procedures to staunch the bleeding. He already sort of knew that in the back of his head, because obviously Evelyn was able to save him, but he wrote it off as her just being an unusually powerful healer, and Belos not knowing healing magic.

But as he got further and further along, he found out that his healing process was one of the least complicated ones Evelyn had done, and that Caleb had saved his life by doing emergency blood stopping before transporting him (he got slashed across the throat, but he was lucky and his windpipe didn't get too badly damaged; the bleeding was the real issue), so... Belos could have saved him. He just... chose not to.

i'm multigender and overall aphorian, and haven't yet found any juvelic orientations that are specifically for us, so i decided to coin them myself! the names are based off of constellations and can describe mono or mspec orientation, they're meant to be inclusive.

(This may or may not get into the fic, I haven't. Found a place to put it naturally yet. It was supposed to happen ages ago, but it didn't feel right) Auric's death was an "accident." He got killed for "backtalking," but it wasn't meant to be a killing blow--it was meant to be a glancing face blow, as Belos does, but Auric moved/flinched/attempted to dodge, and it slashed his throat

Steven has migraines as well as seizures

Frank lost his arm BEFORE Belos killed him and was successfully the golden guard for years after losing it. He was taken in at age five and killed at age 23, so sans the guards that were completely raised from infancy by Belos, he was with Belos for the longest out of most of them (he came after Jason, who died particularly young, hence why he was so young when he was taken in)
