Cupioromatic Leo Valdez being obsessed with the idea of having a relationship, imagining himself in one ever since he knew what love was. Cupioromantic Leo Valdez never being able to truly put someone in the place of the blank shadow of a figure that played the role of his imaginary lover. This figure being the wrong fit for all the people he thought he had a crush on, yet him pushing them into it's place anyway.

All the people.

Hazel, who was one of the easiest to imagine because for a moment, it seemed like she liked him ‘back’. For a moment only, because then Leo found out she liked Sammy and god did he find it so shocking, so uncomfortable to actually see himself, or someone who looked almost identical to him, in a relationship with an actual, living person. To see someone so identical to himself flirt and feel for another.

He may want it, but he didn't want it.

Calypso, who seemed to be in a similar place to him. She too, longed for something that was so, so far away. She too wanted romance, but it was out of reach, an unfortunate thing that tortured her from above but never fell into her palm.

For a while, they tried to create something, force feelings, and love, and a happy relationship, but it wasn't true, it wasn't real. She left, decided to try and have a real life; something that she had also been denied for so long, but could have now. She left, and Leo was alone again.

Khione. Thalia. Jason. Names that he attempted to force a meaning upon, but failed. They weren't crushes, or loves or anything of the sort. They were just Tantalus' desperate grabs at ripe fruit, a desperate attempt for something deemed impossible by a higher figure.

Cupid or Aphrodite or whatever other stupid love god with their stupid love plans, had condemned him.

All the people, all the fish in the sea, yet none made Leo's heart beat a different tune.

Both Leo and Jason have Aro Ace vibes and I stand by that

I’ve talked about them both separately before but yea.

1. Jason only ever romantically loved someone under heras control

2. Leo was just searching for someone to care

Bottom line: They both deserve it be in a QPR together

Here’s what it would look like

They would both Graduate and renovate/build a little Van to travel in

They both feel at home in so many areas that just want to build one together first.

Leo does most of the work at the Waystation, it looks like a Normal old station wagon

Inside is huge and includes beds, a hammock kitchen, laundry stuff and even a shower and toilet

They go all around from the Waystation to New Rome and Camp Halfblood for about a Year

Jason finishes his temples and Leo helps build them

Leo does most of the cooking, and Jason the cleaning

They adopt a dog, the looks more and more like a wolf every day

They love watching Marvel movies and snuggling together

Leo makes big bomb fires for them

Leo made Disney bands for them to get into Disney for free

They spent a few days there

Leo got sick a few times, he claims it’s becuase it’s not a smooth as Jason’s flying

Once they are in their twenties they decide to settle down in the middle of knowhere between both camps

They help lost demigods, and eventually start fostering them

It becomes a big safe haven with even a small farm and garden which Jason takes care of

Piper loves visiting them and she comes out with Shel at least once a year

Leo Valdez is not a fucking incel!

Full disclosure that I am a gringo and will touch on how xenophobia impacted a Latino character. I did check this with my Afro-Latina found brother @jasontoddssuper though!

Apparently people think Leo is an incel because he flirts a lot??? But he isn't! He's a traumatized autistic boy! That and Rick Riordan is xenophobic but I'm going Watsonian right now.

So what do we know about Leo's childhood? His mom died when he was 8. His Aunt Rosa made his family blame him, so he was sent to foster care, where he was neglected at best and abused at worst. He was also often bullied by girls at school.

As another Leo who was ignored and bullied as a kid, I can say from experience you play into expectations to get love. Mine were gender roles, his were stereotypes. Latine people of all genders are often oversexualized and stereotyped as "spicy flirts." Children are often aware of bigotry and stereotypes no matter how hard you try shielding them, and I don't think anyone but Esperanza would care to. If you're what people expect, they can't be disappointed, and maybe if they aren't disappointed they'll be proud. Flirting is also surprisingly affective at getting bullies to back off, which I know from watching my friends and my own tactic of fighting back not doing anything.

Leo learned to be flirtatious because it was how he got out of trouble. Because he was expected to and wanted to be loved. We see that when he becomes friends with other kids who love him for who he is, he gets less flirtatious. Because it was a coping mechanism and trauma response. Because he feels safe on the Argo II.

And I think this trauma explains why Leo "fell" for Calypso. They didn't get along at all, nor did they have any similar goals. But without his support system, without feeling safe, Leo reverted back to how he got by as a kid. He started to flirt. And Calypso gave him love for it.

rereading Heroes of Olympus and seeing again that Leo is aroace. no cause, even though he says like "damn, all these pretty girls" (not an actual quote, but close), he's all like dragons over girls when there's the literally by definition prettiest girls, literally decorated by Aphrodite, and daughter of Aphrodite, everyone is falling at her feet. He just doesn't care. there's literally a dragon to find.
