Idea: Danny has a dual obsession, Protection and Space. Because of this, he decides to visit the Justice League’s Watchtower. They were really cool after all, even if they never came down to Amity.
He didn’t account for the metas, though. He kinda thought he’d wander around invisible and undetected before leaving, his curiosity sated.
At first the JL is ready for a fight, thinking a hostile just infiltrated their HQ, but then they hear he’s a ghost and “oh my god he died a kid!” plus the fact that apparently, he’s been protecting a small town from other ghosts while everyone tries to re-kill him and suddenly it’s a fight for adoption/mentorship.
Danny is mad about this because one, it’s HIS choice, and they’re trying to force it, but two, he isn’t actually all the way dead yet, and that would rip him away from his friends and family, the half of him that was still alive.
The first member of the JL to figure out why was Constantine, actually. He met Danny in human form while investigating Amity and then met Phantom. And he realized that they were the same person. They both had the perfect balance of Life and Death, after all.
Reporting this to the rest of the League just makes it worse, really. After all, Phantom is hunted by the Fentons. It just made the desire to adopt all the more frantic.

Marinette did not sign up for this pt 3
  Part 3 time. part 1 here part two here, ao3 link here
             Cass had long since taken to eating at Yan Toh Heen when she was in Hong Kong, where head chef Cheng Wang served her favorite soup, Marinette Soup. Given that Cass often came at odd times and remained a regular whenever she was in town, she had come to know of Shifu Cheng’s inspiration, his niece’s daughter. A girl who reminded Cass of Bruce’s usual adoptees when she first saw her picture, and mentioned it was a good ting her father hadn’t begun adopting until the girl was already a toddler. Shifu Cheng had laughed at the time, and mentioned that Cass might be a good influence on her, if she could keep her father from trying to steal his great-niece away that is.
             Now Cass was looking at the girl’s picture a bit more critically, and with Bruce and his parents in mind, she wouldn’t be surprised if this Marinette—a young designer who had managed to have two major figures in the industry recognize her by 16 with an apparent knack for helping her local heroes—was Bruce’s daughter. Her eyes reminded Cass of Thomas Wayne’s from the portraits, and her smile was a lot like Bruce’s when he wasn’t hiding anything.
             With all this in mind, Cass was already on a plane to find the girl and test out her theory—to see if Marinette of the Dupain-Cheng Boulangerie was also Ladybug—Batman and Bruce Wayne’s daughter.
             She did smile when she saw the group chat for “Middle Kids Only—No D’s Allowed” exploded with Jason, Tim and Steph arguing over who would find her first and what the prize would be. It looked like Cass would win at this rate. She was fine with that—and having a no-questions asked favor from each of the three in the future would be the icing on the cake to meeting their new sister first.
---
             Marinette has to explain to Adrien a bit of her blow up while they were civilians and out of sight in her room. Tikki and Plagg were napping.
             “So, you’re uh…” she couldn’t blame him for the lack of words. She tended to forget (re: ignore) the fact herself most of the time.
             “Yeah,” Marinette shrugged. “Maman and Papa got me in a closed adoption case, the mother was young.”
             “… I’m now picturing a young Batman and can’t wrap my brain around it.”
             Marinette snorted at that. “It was before Batman existed.”
             Adrien frowned at that, thinking it over as… “So did you ever…”
             Marinette shook her head. “My mother warned against it, the note she left for me said it was dangerous to even attempt contacting him.” She ran a hand through her hair as she remembered Maman and Papa letting her read the note not long after her Guardian training began. It was another life entirely. “She said he was an unfit father, and that she never wanted kids so I was better off not looking for them when I grew up. I never planned to—Maman and Papa were all I ever needed or wanted.”
             Adrien smiled at that, grabbing a cookie for himself. “So what happened?”
             Marinette winced. “I, I don’t want to talk about it. Long story short, a wild Murder Robin appeared and told me not to contact his family or else, and I promised to steer clear of affiliates so he wouldn’t try anything.”
             Adrien twitched at that. He knew Marinette and Alya made a few comments about it once upon a time but…
             “Is he the one dropping off the weapons and flower threats?”
             Marinette looked away, keeping her eyes low.
             Adrien tightened his fists. “I see. If he or that family get near you, they’ll have to take on Chat Noir first.”
             Marinette huffed at that. “They’re the normies that took down the world ending metas, I doubt there’s much we could do against them chatton.”
             Adrien shook his head and jabbed a thumb at his chest. “Black Cat wielder, destruction incarnate, and the idiot you share a soul with.” He gave her his Chat Noir smile. “There’s nothing I can’t take on.”
             Marinette snorted at that. “Chemistry.”
             Adrien’s face fell at that. “You cannot tell me chemical reactions are that easy!”
             Marinette smiled at him then. “I can and will say it—Chemistry is easier and superior to physics. Kitchen Chemistry is how we get food.”
             “And physics keeps us from floating off into space.”
             “Not studying it. Studying chemistry I get food, physcics is just a headache of formulas on formulas on formulas.”
             “But the theories!”
             With that, the pair fell into their familiar rhythm of banter for the rest for the night.
             Tim was crossing French designers in Paris aged 14-20 that own or work at a boutique, online or physical, and turned up a large number of candidates for who Ladybug/the missing Wayne could be.
             Babs rolled in on this particular search, and gave him a look. “You know the Justice League wants us to not to contact her, right?”
             Tim made a vague sound of acknowledgement.
             “And that Bruce probably didn’t have a kid at 15, right?”
             “Just covering my bases.”
             Babs looked over his search margins. “Did you check Damian’s search history?”
             Tim scowled at her. “Of course I did, he’s been doing more through wipes, I couldn’t get more than a few scarps of useless code.”
             Babs began to grin then. “So that means I do have a leg-up on you then.”
             He didn’t even want to know how she knew about the competition. But she wasn’t officially in it either (all of the placed their bets down negotiated rules (re: no asking for help from Damian) and agreed the only participants were the four of them). What did Barbra Gordon want out of this?
             Tim paused at that. “What.”
             Babs grinned at him. Tim remembered why Oracle is the queen of hackers everywhere—nothing is safe from her reach.
             “He was particularly taken with a few designers, and one of them happens to be in the range you’re looking for.”
             Tim scowled at her. “What do you want?”
             “You know that picture of me you took a few years back?”
             Tim blinked as that was what she wanted. His ‘Don’t tell The Family’ insurance.
             “Yes.”
             “I want your copies of burned, and any you may have floating around returned to me.”
             Tim weighed the pros and cons to this. The girl should be in his current data pool. And he does know to use Damian’s search again (tracking Bab’s hacks was child’s play now) but she probably deleted most—if not all of—her trail. Decisions, Decisions…
             He could just wait to meet the baby bat. But then he would owe Jason a no-questions asked favor if he found her first… and he didn’t want to know what Jason would use it for. Owing Cass a favor meant family nights with the worst board games or tea parties when he was elbow deep in a mission. A no question favor for Steph was always interesting and usually resulted in Bruce giving them both looks.
             Did he want to lose his leverage on Babs, or did he want to avoid the consequences of the bet more?
--
             Chat and Carapace exchanged a quick look when the pair arrived. A nod from Carapace as he trailed after their paling Ladybug was all Chat needed to begin operation Distract the Justice Leaguer Members.
             He and Rena Rouge were having the time of their lives. Both were genuine in their admiration of the pair and the work they had done. And they were both eager to learn from them—both as individuals and what their people knew of the Miraculous—something Chat and Rena knew there were large gaps in the history of still. And if they could help out Ladybug with gathering information and ensuring she was given space, well, the pair were down for it.
             Chat was asking a confused and mildly frightened Aquaman for combat tips in aquatic situations for future Syren-eqsue akumas.
             “So how do you keep an eye on attacks from all directions? Is it a ‘feel the water movements’ thing? Or is it just something you know how to do from growing up underwater? Could you teach me a few things on it—it’s a weak point that I need to work on.”
             Aquaman was quick to agree to help, eager to avoid angering the Black Cat and given Ladybug’s (apparently continued) evasion of Justice League Members, this may be the best way to both prevent the possible apocalypse and ensure Atlantis’ future safety.
             Wonder Woman was having an interesting conversation with Miss Sting about the uses for her spinning top and potential ways to work on her use of Venom while Rena asked about the Amazons and was there really an amazon who wielded the Ladybug miraculous? There were no confirmations from Ladybug and the Guardian was impossible to find to ask. Was there a Fox and did they have anything on the Miraculous’ history?
             Wonder Woman was quick to supply answers while scanning the area for Ladybug, and noted that the Turtle was missing too.
             “Is Ladybug well?”
             Rena and Miss Sting exchanged a look.
             Miss Sting stepped forward. “Ladybug just needs some space. She isn’t willing to risk breaking her promise since certain people do know where she lives.”
             Rena tensed at that, a scowl quick to her face as she remembered why Ladybug was absent. “She can’t talk to either of you until Murder Robin,”--Wonder Woman winced at the reminder of the current Robin’s past--“makes it clear he won’t keep threatening her if she does.”
             Chat caught enough of the conversation to join in. “Its also not good to stress her out, especially since its going to be open season soon.”
             Miss Sting sighed at the reminder. “Application and testing season.”
             Rena rubbed her forehead. “Don’t remind me. Last time Ladybug was so stressed over her workload that the cure was off for a week.”
             Wonder Woman and Aquaman exchanged a look.
             “Are you stating that stress on Ladybug alters how the Miraculous Cure works?” Aquaman asked cafefully, hoping it wasn’t the case.
             “Yeah,” Chat rubbed the back of his neck. “I figured it always did.”
             Wonder Woman shook her head, mind racing as, “No. Not during Mother’s time—it must be a side effect of something. May I speak to one of the Guardians?”
             Chat didn’t even have time to respond. Both adults noted the way his pupils shrunk and body tensed at the question. He knew something the others didn’t.
             “Uh, there’s only one, and the guy has been radio silent for months now,” Rena explained. “And not to be rude, but given the security breaches in the past, I don’t think it’s the best thing for our Guardian to be in contact, just in case.”
             “I see…”
             Aquaman was the quick to defuse the situation. “Perhaps one of your sisters could reach out to Ladybug? They are not affiliated with the League so that should lessen her stress.”
             Chat nodded along at that. Good. It was better to keep the Destroyer content.
             “I can see who Mother would like to send of the historians given the interest in past miraculous wielders,” Diana conceded. “Could you ask Ladybug if that is acceptable?”
             The teens grabbed their respective weapons and messaged Ladybug. A moment later the trio stated that Ladybug would agree to those terms.
             In the meantime, Chat, Rena and Miss Sting caught the adults up on the Hawkmoth situation and their limitations on investigation. Rena was particularly annoyed by the lack of progress as “Our best suspect was akumatized before Mayura showed up, so he can’t be Hawkmoth. But he lives in the target area, has the funds for a butterfly garden and the ability to keep it underground if LB’s theory about artificial sunlight to keep it secret is right.”
            “But we know he can’t be, so we should drop it and look for other suspects,” Chat added a bit nervously.
             Miss Sting nodded in agreement.
             Rena sighed. “I know, its just, too much adds up on him being Hawkmoth, but then again, that would mean he’d put his own kid in danger just to get the Miraculous. I mean, he’s bad and all but…” Rena shook her head. “LB is right about him making sense but it’s too obvious. I mean, who hides in plain sight, right?”
             Wonder Woman made a mental note to find out who this suspect was and maybe—MAYBE—let the bats do a deep search on this suspect if Rena would name them. He could very well be their villain, but she didn’t know enough on this investigation yet to make a call, nor did she have much knowledge on the Butterfly or Peacock miraculous. She only paid attention to the Ladybug and Black Cat legends—a soul spilt in two, destined to always find one another and willing to do whatever it took to protect the other from self-destructing once they grew close as allies.
--
             In Gotham Jason Todd is on a Mission. That mission happens to be meeting the Baby Bat before Timmers or the Waffle Queen herself beat him to it. Cass hadn’t responded to any of their texts, so he figured she was knee-deep in Black Bat and forfeited for once. He hoped.
             Either way, Red Hood would be tracking a certain Little Lady when he touched down in Paris once his plane took off, and take out whoever this “Hawkmoth” was. Magic terrorism is one thing. Targeting kids? Well, that puts you Hood’s list and high on his priorities real quick. Add threatening his family (estranged, feuding or 'well they're a Bat') to that? Gotham would live without him for a bit.
--
             Ladybug is currently holed up with Carapace in one of their hide-y holes on patrol. She has borrowed (re: snagged and is not returning any time soon) Carapace’s headphones. The music helps her breath. No immediate danger, she didn’t (further) break the rules of engagement, and she didn’t see any sign of Murder Robin in Paris from news reports.
             “So, uh, Murder Robin?”
             Ladybug wanted to groan. She knew this conversation was coming. “Can you send the others the cliff notes?”
             She did not want to do this with each one of them. there are a lot of miraculous users. Besides Chat and Carapace, there was Rena, Miss Sting, Pegasus, Ryuuko, King Monkey, Viperion, and Bunnix. She did not want to have this conversation seven more times.
             “Sure thing Ladybug.”
             Ladybug took a deep breath.
             “Remember Incinerater and Goo-Boy?”
             Carapace paused, face a bit slack as he nodded his head. “The first time Mr. Bug appeared, and the day Rena, Sting and me got our miraculous.”
             Ladybug nodded. “Well, it lasted so long because my transformation timed out. I couldn’t figure out what my lucky charm meant—I didn’t know what the kwami box looked like, and a bigger version of the jewelry box I got Tikki in meant nothing to me.” Ladybug sighed, as once again, she realized how much easier it would have been if Fu contacted her and Chat Noir after the first attack, or even during one on their built-in communicators. Just. Something.
             “So you timed out.”
             Ladybug nodded. “And I got caught in the building that went down.”
             Carapace froze. “Most people were still injured.”
             Ladybug winced. “I was. Still. Chat somehow knew to look for my civilian identity and found out I was Ladybug. I thought…” Marinette shook her head, pushing old fears of losing Tikki away. She’s the Guardian now. Tikki and her are together as long as Marinette remains so. “Nevermind. The point is, even after he cast the cure and helped me get home, Goo-boy showed up and Mr. Bug was needed again.”
             Carapace put the pieces together. “You were still hurt. And he left you alone.”
             Ladybug ran a hand through her pigtails. “He had to. I told him to, I figured I could make it the rest of the way.”
             Carapace frowned at that. “LB…” He put a hand on her shoulder. “What happened?”
             Ladybug swallowed a lump. “Tiny Murder Robin.” She stiffened a bit, fiddling with her yoyo then. “He uh, grabbed me, pulled me into a car and held me a sword-point. Not gun point, sword point.” Marinette bleed through then. “Who does that? What kid goes around and says they’ll kill you with a sword at your neck?”
             Carapace rubbed her back, keeping her grounded. “I managed to get him to leave since I was ‘unworthy of the Bat legacy’ and all, discarded and useless.” Marinette shook her head, reminding herself she’s moved past those feelings, the one that tried to well up in her moments. She was bigger than those thoughts. “He let me go since I wasn’t worth the effort if I didn’t know I was Batman’s daughter.” Marinette kept her eyes on her lap, a nervous hands running through one pigtail vigorously. “I kind of sicced him on the current Robin to save my skin.”
             Carapace pulled her in for a hug. She clung back a bit. she didn’t have to look at him as he explained the deal. “I promised to not contact Batman or the JL and he agreed to leave me alone. And he did.”
             Carapace pulled back. “That’s not all of it, is it?”
             “He uh, started leaving flowers and some weapon for winter holidays, Easter and my birthday in my room….”
             Carapace paled at that. “He’s threatening you.”
             “y, yeah…”
             “So that’s why….”
             Ladybug nodded.
             Carapace hugged her tight. “One sec, I’ll text the team. Then we’re doing that plan of action you made the rest of us do for when we can’t show up.”
             Ladybug nodded.
             She noticed a text from the others, asking if she’d be willing to talk to an Amazonian historian on the history of the Miraculous and learn from her. That… wouldn’t violate the terms of the agreement, in spirit or wording. She sent her agreement on the terms that none of the sent historians were Wonder Woman or the Queen herself. As cool as meeting Hippolyta would be, Marinette does not want to risk the violation in spirit (family members probably counted to Murder Robin.)
             “Done.”
             Ladybug blinked as Carapace turned to her.
             “Now what can we do to help?”
             Ladybug opened and closed her mouth, running over her options. “Just keep non-miraculous heroes from contacting me, especially in battle. I just...” Ladybug struggled for words. “He knows where I live. My family.”
             Carapace nodded, keeping a steady hand on her shoulder. “Can’t risk it, I got you—we got you.”
             After a moment of silence, Carapace spoke. “Keep the team on speeddial—if you don’t want everyone on, then at least me, Pegasus and Rena. Rena can distract without getting hurt, I can protect all of us and Pegasus can send him and anyone he works with packing. Monkey probably would want in on this too—he is the Distraction King after all.”
             Ladybug laughed a little at that. It came out weak. “Sure. Chat, he’s…”
             “Busy.” Carapace shrugged. “We all know his dad has him running through hoops to make it to patrol half the time.”
             “Yeah…”
             (Marinette agreeing to intern with M. Agreste and work on her accessories brand under the Gabriel umbrella did give Adrien more lee-way than he had before, but not by much at first. Ever since her line of scarves based on the miraculous heroes took off last winter, he was given more free reign if it involved Marinette as a designer, not Marinette as his friend and classmate. Adrien was allowed at her house at all hours now without no questions asked on the basis of ‘Marinette’s muses have spoken’. As far as Gabriel was concerned, Adrien was learning more about the designing process and crafting of individual garment and accessories from her, and offering critiques as a model on wear-ability and helping her develop her style as a designer while keeping her ‘on-brand’. The fact they mostly goofed off or worked on miraculous-related things together was another matter for another time.)
             Ladybug and Carapace stayed like that for a while, until after the JL left. She may have trolled the Monkey tab on the Ladyblog and snorted at someone’s short of ‘era 1’ Chat running at an akuma while screaming “this is how I will get Ladybug will love me!” with an ‘era 2’ Chat cringing. “That. That is how I got Ladybug to baby brother me.”
--
           Dick was wondering where the rest of the bats were during patrol. The night before, it was only him. Something about needing to look into something for the JL on Bruce’s end, and Damian was working on something again—trying to make up for a past wrong was the most Dick ever got out of him. It was the third year in a row this happened, and around the same time. Apparently needles are part of this apology.
             Dick really hopes Damian manages to meet the person face to face this time. He has a feeling the person Damian’s apologizing to might be a civilian by Bat standards, and is probably missing Damian’s message completely. Maybe Dick would check up on him tomorrow—Gotham wait for no one and apparently Nightwing is the only responsible Bat at the moment. Thank god for Oracle’s Birds of Prey and the other vigilantes Gotham’s collected over the years. Dick doesn’t want to think about what would happen if this happened without them all.

PART FOUR HERE
Thanks for waiting on the update. Working with burned hand so it will take longer for the next installments. Mostly planned for the next chapter but character will do what they want and highjack my writing constantly. Things are moving forward (somewhat) on the Bats and JL end, while Miraculous Team stands with their leader, Ladybug, and aren’t ready to let Anyone threaten her.
this makes for a set-up for much to go Wrong. Feel free to add to the upcoming chaos or put in things youd like to see happen in the comments or by messaging me.

Being a Human and Dating Aquaman Would Include
- Nice long walks on the beach ;)
- Feeling like the queen of the ocean as he makes it part before you on romantic nights
- Having to watch him dive into freezing cold water and literally not knowing what to do
- Making out underwater under the light of the bioluminescent plankton
- Really long nights looking at the stars and having him teach you the constellations so you’ll always be able to find him no matter where you are
- Never having to worry about other guys hitting on you since Arthur will literally never leave your side when you two go out together.
- Him surprising you with gifts and visits at your work that always smell faintly of ocean
- Whenever he gets (grievously) wounded, he sends an Atlantan messenger to let you know he can’t be home for dinner, but would you please save him a plate because he’ll eat it with you when he comes back
- Him always being concerned when you go swimming because he still isn’t completely sure how long humans can hold their breath and stay safe.
-When you’re on land, sometimes you catch him staring intently at the fishbowl trying to figure out why they stayed subjected to humanity instead of revolting
- At night, sometimes you impulsively hug his solid chest just to remind yourself that he would rather be with you than spend all of eternity ruling Atlantis (he delegates)

Flirting With The King

Summary: Arthur made the Reader Captain of the Royal Guard after he became King and ever since he’s been flirting with her.
Word Count: 889
Warnings: Aquaman Spoilers
Tumblr media
There weren’t many people Arthur knew in Atlantis and there were fewer he could trust. Really, it was just Mera, Vulko, and you, Vulko’s daughter.
You were a few years younger than Arthur and whenever Vulko was teaching Arthur, you were there, too. You were there to help teach Arthur; but, to also learn about fighting. Because you were there, you became someone Arthur could trust, someone he cared for.
And over the years, you began to hone your fighting skills, becoming better and better. And you were able to become one of the best fighters in Atlantis.
Whenever Arthur ventured to Atlantis or came too close, you also went to say hello. And when King Orm began to align the kingdoms of Atlantis to become Ocean Master and decided to attack the surface world, you knew you had to get Arthur to stop it.
Which was how Arthur, Mera and you ended up on the quest to get King Atlan’s Trident. And once Arthur had the trident of King Atlan, he was able to stop King Orm’s war on the Brine, defeat King Orm, and become King of Atlantis and Ocean Master himself.
Once Arthur was King, he made sure to keep your father, Vulko, as his advisor to make sure he didn’t fuck anything up, and he also promoted you to Captain of the Royal Guard.
You were ecstatic at your promotion, and also very scared. Being Captain of the Royal Guard was a huge honor; but, also caused a lot stress. Though, you couldn’t help but feel as if there was more to you being made Captain of the Royal Guard, like maybe it wasn’t just that you were a great fighter that earned you the job. Which, as you later learned, wasn’t true. But, at the time, it was something you thought.
At first you were confident in yourself and your abilities; but, as the weeks dragged on, Arthur started to flirt with you more and more and you started to doubt yourself and began believe that maybe he made you Captain of the Royal Guard because he had some sort of feelings for you.
This upset you a bit because you wanted to earn your place as Captain of the Royal Guard, not be given the position because you have connections in high places. But, at the same time, you had had feelings for Arthur for a long time and you liked the fact that he was flirting with you.
Arthur would say things like. “You know, (Y/N), you remind me of a box of chocolates.” Which wasn’t really the best thing to say because you didn’t know what a box of chocolates was…
“What do you mean?” You asked Arthur.
“Because I want to take your top off and eat you.” Arthur said, his voice slightly deeper than usual.
You raised your eyebrow at him before you burst out into laughter. “Wouldn’t it be my bottomsyou want to take off so you could eat me?” You managed to ask through your laughter.
Arthur looked at you and nodded. “Um… yes, I guess you’re right.”
“You’re not good at making plays on words, myKing.” You continued to laugh.
But, Arthur wasn’t laughing with you, instead he was looking at you with too much intensity. “You’re right, I’m not good at plays on words; but, that’s just because my mouth is much more useful between a woman’s legs.”
You stopped laughing instantly at his words. But Arthur didn’t pull his eyes away from yours and the intensity within them stole the water from your lungs as you felt a blush rise to your cheeks and ears. Arthur tilted his head back with a smirk before breaking eye contact and carrying on as if nothing had happened.
He was killing you with his words and you wanted nothing more than to just grabbing him and kiss him; so, you did.
You were talking with Arthur, giving him information on the Royal Guard and how to rule Atlantis, things of such degree. But, your uniform showed off your chest. You weren’t showing off any more than Mera in her green uniform; but, Arthur quickly took note of it.
“So, who commands the Royal Guard? You or your boobs?” Arthur said, with a light laugh, his eyes glued to your chest.
“Shut up.” You said as you rolled your eyes at him.
“Make me.” Arthur replied with a challenging smirk.
You raised an eyebrow at him, challenging his words a bit and Arthur tilted his head back, bit his lip and winked at you.
You shook your head a bit and stepped around the table towards your King. “Okay, I will.”
Your actions and words caused a wave of uncertainty to flash in Arthur’s eyes, his teeth letting go of his lip.
You cupped the back of Arthur’s neck and pulled his lips down onto your own. The kiss was rough and messy, but so good at the same time. You pulled back from the kiss after a moment, but he just pulled you back, his hands roughly holding your hips. Arthur’s kiss was harder than yours and you welcomed it, pressing yourself closer to him. Arthur smirked a bit into the kiss before pulling back.
“So, dinner?” He said.
You nodded. “Yeah, that soundsnice.”

Batman titles I’d publish
I’ve doing a thought experiment of all the DC comics I’d publish if I ruled DC, but it kind fell apart because I realized I only have a basic understanding of Aquaman, so I figured I’d just go with the Bat books I’d do.
Batman:
Mostly a Bruce solo book, only rarely will other Batfam members show up. I mean Alfred is here, always, a little more grim and rough in tone, if you’re here for bloody messy fist fights, this is where you get that Batman ultra violence.
Detective Comics:
The Family book, basically always a team up Bruce with any of the bat kids, the bat kids with each other, other guests as well.
Catwoman:
The adventures of Selina Kyle, Bruce shows up a lot but out of costume to cover their on-off relationship. Selina’s comic focuses generally on her Robin Hood style crimes, complex heists she pulls off against the greedy rich and how she spends the crime money to help the poor. She lives in a pent house with 12 cats, her roommate/friend/sidekick Holly Robinson and sometimes house guest a homeless street youth named Toby who Selina and Holly both nicknamed “kitten” who is sometimes a look out or spy and might evolve into Cat Lad at some point.
Batwoman:
Kate Kane likes to make it seem like Batwoman has it all under control, but really she’s a hella stressed out Lesbian. How does someone without a billion dollars laying around keep up with her cousin Bruce? Kate shares a loft with her younger half-sister Bette, who makes being a superhero (Flamebird) look easy but never does the washing up. Kate is dating a charming police detective, Renee Montoya, but maybe they’re both keeping secrets? regular guest stars and team up from Luke Fox (Batwing), Jean-Paul Valley (Azrael), and Harper Row (Bluebird) as well as Cassandra Cain (Batgirl). On going subplot of Cullen Row at Kate’s loft where they bond over what it’s like to be young gay and bullied and Kate teaches Cullen self defense moves.
Nightwing:
Dick Grayson moved to a new city (Blüdhaven) to start a new life and build his own brand as a superhero, how hard can it be? turns out adulting is hard! Dealing with a stressful, demanding long hours job as a legal aid attorney and a shitty apartment doesn’t leave a lot of time for heroing. Blüdhaven is crawling with would be super villains out to make a name for themselves and a corrupt city government in the pocket of organized crime, Dick doesn’t have any commissioner Gordon. Dick also has to handle being a good big brother to regular visitor Damian, and calls from Tim. His busy dating life is another issue. To top it all of a homeless 14 year old street kid named Tad has been inspired to become Nite-Wing and is insisting Dick train him and also let him crash on Dick’s couch, Dick’s not sure he’s ready to be a dad have a sidekick.
Batgirls United:
Barbara Gordon is Oracle, the wheelchair bound computer genus and command and control center of the Batfamily. In her clock tower HQ she leads, oversees and trains her 3 replacements as Batgirl. Cassandra Cain and Stephanie Brown (age 17 and 16) and Tiffany Fox (age 13) the younger sister of Batwing and youngest child of Lucius Fox who brings a bubbly energy and enthusiasm to the role of Batgirl, as well as a passion for pink. A team centric book, though some issues might focus on one girl or another as they deal with their own issues. Barbara with worry about the girls safety, Cass about socialization and being “normal” Steph the stress of high school, college applications and money problems, and Tiffany middle school drama and sneaking out of the house without being noticed.
Robin: Agent of Batman:
A Tim Drake Robin book. Mostly focused on Tim going around the world on missions for Batman. Batfamily members show up on calls and video chats but rarely in person. Tim often teams up with different heroes, some well known, some not well known, and local Batman allies around the world. Ra’s is a common bad guy, but other DC global crime networks show up and are fouled by Tim, who must deal with missing stuff back home and teenaged homesickness as well as villains and wondering if what he’s doing is helping the people of the places he visits.
Robin: Son of Batman:
Damian Wayne Robin book. Many issues would focus on Bruce-Dami or Dick-Dami team ups and his relationship as son/little brother and sidekick. However there’d be lots of solo adventures, co-staring Dami’s friends Maya Ducard (NoBody) and Colin Wilkes (Abuse) and a growing cast of young friends, allies, and Gotham heroes. Duke Thomas, Tiffany Fox, and Mar’i Grayson are common (annoying) guest stars, and Jon Kent will show up in calls, moments in school, and rare guest crossovers.
The Signal:
Duke Thomas stars as the daytime watcher of Gotham. Charged with patrolling Gotham on his motorcycle and dealing with petty crime and being the first responder to major crimes. Duke often times bites off more than he can chew and doesn’t always call in Batman when he should. On top of his bright yellow costume Duke uses a number of light powered weapons, like flashes in his gloves and flash bangs. Duke has mild pre and post-precognitive abilities. Meaning he can see brief glimpses of the future or the past. He has no control over when this happens and rarely can tell right away if the vision is the future or the past. His book is a lot of detective work as Duke works to piece together a vision and solve or prevent the crime. Often stepping over the line, putting himself at risk, and pissing off Bruce, but getting support from Alfred.
Oracle and the Birds of Pray:
Another Barbara Gordon centered book. Babs is the brains and the network of the DCU, connecting heroes and serving as logistic support for the JLA and BatFamily. As such she’s gathered a loose team of mostly female heroes. Her close friend Dinah Lance (Black Canary) co-stars and is her field person. Much of the book focuses on their friendship/partnership bonding over dating superhero men and being a girl hero in a man’s world. Common co-stars Helena Bertinelli (Huntress) and Selina Kyle (Catwoman) are in about 90% of adventures, sometimes Black Canary, Catwoman, and Huntress are all together as a team. Common guest stars, Power Girl, Ted Kord (Blue Beetle), Nightwing, Tim Drake (Robin), and Flamebird. Every other week or so a guest woman hero, particularly b-list or otherwise over looked ones.
Red Hood and The Outlaws:
Is Jason Todd up to keeping a hard-ass Amazon, a dangerous clone, and an assassin from the future on the strait and narrow? Jason Todd teams up with Amazon former secret agent Artemis to try to keep an eye on the hulking childlike Superman clone Bizarro. Soon the trio stumble across an emotionally vulnerable Thad Thawne (Inertia). They take him in and Jason is determined to help Thad get a second chance. But is Jason up to teaching Thad to keep his anger in check when Jason isn’t sure he’s in control of his own? can he teach Bizarro where the lines are in a morally complex world when he’s not sure where they are? Not helped by Artemis who’s more warrior than mother hen, and might have her own agenda. Regular guest stars, Roy Harper, Kyle Rayner, Donna Troy, and Dick Grayson, Alfred appearing by call and video chat.
Jason Todd: The Lost Adventures:
Everyone thinks they know the story of Jason Todd as Robin, but they only know how it ends. After Jason Todd died his team of teenaged side kicks, Teen Justice, was lost from time and space and removed from the timeline. This is the story of Robin (Jason Todd) Wonder Boy, Supergirl, Scarlet Arrow, Aquo, and Kid Flash. Set in the 1980s it’s the story of a team, friendships and adventures you didn’t know you needed, before everything got all dark and grim.
Batman Beyond:
70 years in the Future 17 year old Terry McGinnis was living a perfectly normal life till he stumbled on a secret almost 100 years old. In a looming manor over looking the booming Gotham of the 2080s the 83 year old Damian Wayne, former Batman finds himself with the replacement he swore he’d never have. Batman’s oldest enemy, The Joker has returned, and Terry armed with a cutting edge high tech suit and the best crash training Damian as must fight him and a growing number of other villains. Terry balances friends, school, his pushy little brother, and being Batman. Does Damian know more about Terry, particularly who his and Matt’s father was? Also staring computer AI and hologram Alfred Pennyworth, guest staring Jon Kent as Superman and Barbara Grayson (Dick and Babs daughter) as police commissioner.

My current request list
Nereus X Siren!reader
I just re-watched Die Hard for the first time in ages, and I only now fully appreciate how hot Tony Vreski is, like hot damn. I was wondering if I could request something where the reader was invited to the Christmas party, and she escaped to try to call for help, but got shot in the process, and Tony goes to find her like in the movie, and he helps and comforts her? Thank you so much love!
19. “Trust me” with Violante x the Piper
"I thought I'd lost you" with the Piper and Firefox
Could I get some black manta x female reader fluff?? 👀
Okay so I would love if you would make a one shot where the reader is studying to become a marine biologist and is currently working for/with Tom Curry in the lighthouse or something like that and eventually she meets the mysterious son of his and super fluffy. You’re just an amazing writer and I would love to have this. 😍😍😍
I don’t see your rules on mobile but can you do what it would be like to be married to king Nereus? I love your blog btw!
where he goes up against black manta and gets injured in the process and big bro arthur comes to the rescue, orm is my favourite
or king nereus actually also has a daughter with a surface dweller which he wants to bring to atlantis, gets like reunited with her fam after her surface mom dies or something idk
Hello!!!! can i request an arthur curry x reader where the reader is the daughter of poseidon and is sent to earth to protect the oceans? i thought it'll be an interesting plot! also fluff!!
Hi, is it possible request fluff/bonding about, Queen Atlanna for first time getting to spend time with both her sons together? *I swear they both have their spoons of mommy issues up through the years* xD
heyo! could you do a orm marius x human reader story and they find out they're soulmates? with a sprinkle of angst (oops the cap fell off and dumped a whole bunch o' angst lol). thank you xoxo
Benji and Ethan with the prompt “You stopped Breathing.”
(Has taken wayy to long)
Are you taking requests? Can you write an Arthur x reader fic where they grew up together and he’s reluctant to go and help Atlantis and stop Orm cuz he doesn’t wanna leave her but he eventually comes back as King
Hi could you do an imagine where Mera. helps soothe the reader during a nightmere? Thanks
Hi! If you are still taking requests, can we have an Orm x Reader, maybe just lying in bed with each other, and being soft and heartfelt. That's a side of him that I think has a lot of potential, and that people will love.
Any chance you’d do a jealous Arthur Curry x female reader fic? Pleeeease :)
hello, could you do a orm marius x surface dweller imagines where he was about to save someone from drowning but she saved him first and he finds her badass and falls in love with her. 🤭 sorry if it is pretty specific thanks !! ❤️😉
Ooo I would love a fic where Arthur and reader r best friends but secretly love each other? Reader is rly shy and anxious and a bit chubby and doesn’t think shes good enough for him. Thx <3
kinda surprised no one requested this before, but maybe some Vulko x reader? No matter smut or fluff, I’ll be happy with whatever comes to your mind <3
Hi there! 😀 Can I request an Aquaman one-shot, where he has fallen in love with Vulko's daughter (who is a former Captain of the Atlantean Guard and the Head Historian, and who at one point was exiled by Orm for stealing closely guarded information on the Atlant's Trident), but is afraid to put her in danger by confessing his love. Reader decides to help him on his quest despite his protests, and in the end, her determination and stubborness earns her a place as a Queen of Atlantis by his side.
Teenage aquaman x Mera!reader in which Vulko is training both of them, he has to leave, they spar, and when he comes back, reader and arthur are caught kissing. Also, ending in which mera sneaks up to the surface sometimes and hangs out with Arthur and on some nights he plays the guitar and they hang out at Arthur's place and she knows Arthur's dad and she and Arthur fool around like friends and it's cute and fluffy, no smut, please, thank u so much💓
I have a request, if you're up for it 😁 I would really love some fluff (or even smut, if you write that kind of stuff) with King Orm and a surface dweller. Maybe he has watched her for some time and they finally talk and then, maybe a first kiss or something about their first night together. She could convince him that the surface dwellers aren't that bad. That would be awesome 😍
Orm X Voluptuous surface dweller
Can you do imagine that y/n is daughter of Vulko and Orm flirts with her cause he didn't know that Vulko had a daughter.
Hi! Can you write something about Mera teaching the reader how to deal with her fear of water please? Thanks <3
hello!!!!! i love your work!!!! can you do a mera x female reader where the reader is a superhero as well and meets mera and arthur in italy and joins them after helping them out defeat black manta pls pls pls
hello, I'm a fan of your work. I read it even if I'm swamped with a shit ton of paperwork haha would it be alright if I could request for a mera x female outcast atlantean!reader? where the female reader leads mera and arthur through the trench and they are dumbfounded with the fact that nothing harms them while they are with the outcast atlantean!reader. (she is a powerful being) hope you have a great day love! cheers!
I don't know if you're accepting requests but what if mera and the reader were married and the reader tries to swim on her own but ends up drowning/getting hurt, mera helps her.
would it be alright if I could request for an aquamanxreader oneshot? which they were childhood sweethearts (like she's Vulko's daughter) ,but she was sent away and they only meet again yrs later when he comes to Atlants angst/fluff?If you dont its ok thx u
Requests are open :)

I just saw Aquaman!
And! I! Loved! It!
I think it was the aquarium bit right at the beginning where I just stopped and went, “oh fuck, I’m afraid of fish.” I had kind of… forgotten? that I have an irrational fear of fish? There weren’t many scenes where just little fish were going around so it was mostly fine. And despite this fact, I still very much loved the movie. It was amazing. So here’s some things I loved.
(long post full of spoilers under the cut)
The absence of death for the drama: Firstly, let me just say how happy I am that they didn’t go the cheap route of killing off characters for drama. Like it would have been so easy for them to kill his dad. So easy. And through that scene (which was gorgeous btw, both the sound design and the cinematography) I was so scared that they would, but like… kind of resigned to the fact. And then they didn’t. And Vulko too! I thought he was gonna for sure get killed for motivation. First during the Ring of Fire (btw, the Johnny Cash song of the same name played in my head every time someone said it) I thought he was gonna jump in the way to prevent Arthur losing and die. Then during the rest of the film there were so many opportunities for him to get killed and he did not! It would have been so easy to kill his dad or his father figure but they didn’t, and you know why? Because then it wouldn’t have been about Arthur regaining his birthright and learning to accept both sides of himself, it would have been a plain and simple revenge story. Like so many other movies we’ve seen before. Good on them for avoiding the cliché that this has to happen for a hero’s journey.
Atlanna: While we’re at it, let’s talk about Queen Atlanna. Because I don’t think most people, who have seen movies like this before, really believed that she was dead. When there’s no hard evidence, you gotta assume they’re fine. And I love that, when characters are so pleasantly shocked and surprised to see their loved one alive. I live for that. And this film did not disappoint. Their reunion was beautiful and touching. And I definitely teared up when she asked about Arthur’s dad. And the person sitting in front of me was just absolutely sobbing. Either that or choking on their popcorn. I couldn’t tell.
Diversity: How about that love story between his parents eh! That was heartbreaking and beautiful. And it was just so, so refreshing to see non-white characters let me just say. Like Arthur’s dad is a gorgeous man and it hurts that we haven’t seen stuff like this before. It was just perfect. And I loved how Arthur was also still very much connected to the culture of his father and his family. That’s an extra layer of depth that you can’t get as easily when everyone is white.
Comedy: So this movie was hilarious. It was so, so funny. Like… the octopus on the drums? During the Ring of Fire scene? I laughed so hard and so long that I set off the person sitting next to me who also started laughing. My god, I just couldn’t help it. It made me think of The Little Mermaid. But also like, the “bogeys on our six” “what does that mean???” “Bad guys behind us!” “Just say that then!” “Bad guys behind us! Bad guys behind us!” Just getting increasingly higher and higher pitched. Like that was priceless. Also side note, we talk a lot about female characters being allowed to make “unsexy” noises when fighting, but like there are also multiple points in this film where Jason Momoa isn’t just being all gruff grunts in fights either, like he gets thrown off a roof in Italy and his yell turns into a high pitched scream at one point like yes!
Mera: Also Princess Mera! Like damn! It is very clear she is very much an equal, and never lesser than the male lead. She’s the one who knows what she’s doing. And like the thing with controlling water? That’s something that’s uniquely her. It’s not something that she has to teach to Arthur. That’s her own insanely powerful thing and Arthur and everyone else can’t help but respect her and just be in awe. Also, trying to do things from the background to keep the leverage she has in her position, but not hesitating to just go for it either. When she sees no other choice she jumps feet first into her new role as a traitor because she wants to see her nation under better rule.
Arthur: As a character, I loved that he wasn’t like, the smartest guy, but he could still use his head and think through things. He’s not an idiot. He has knowledge about certain things like history. I loved that he was named after Arthurian legend and they kept with that, that his dad is a history lover and taught him stuff.  He differs to Mera, acknowledging that she’s brilliant. And he wins his battles not by brute strength (except for the first one which set up perfectly what he could do) or by outsmarting the other guy, but often by just stopping to talk (that monster that was guarding) or by getting help (the huge battle at the end with the sea creatures). An argument can even be made for it not being sheer strength that wins the final duel, but skill. He even acknowledges this by saying that he’s a blunt weapon and good at it. All he wants to do is help and protect people which we see plainly on both the sub and in Italy. Arthur is a great, well fleshed-out character that felt completely real.
Atlantis’ walls: Ok, the bit where they’re entering the city and Arthur says, “why don’t people just go over the walls?” and Mera says that it’s impossible and there’s hydra canons and whatnot, I just started chanting in my head Chekhov’s gun Chekhov’s gun Chekhov’s gun! (For those that don’t know, it’s a literary device that states “If in the first act you have hung a pistol on the wall, then in the following one it should be fired”. Meaning, if you gonna mention something like that, do something with it). And by golly did they! I was assuming they were gonna have to break in at some later point, I didn’t think they’d be breaking out! That was great!
The ending: It was absolutely perfect. How everyone stands witness to the battle and their battle itself, including all of the talking they did in it. I adored the relationship between the two brothers. Like how Arthur said earlier that he had wanted to meet him and get to know him. Then at the end he tells him that they can talk when he’s ready and Orm actually hesitantly gives him a nod. And the fact that he spared him at all. He regrets not showing mercy to Manta’s father, and will not fail to show mercy again here. And how Atlanna shows up and talks to Orm and tells him she loves him and doesn’t blame him, she blames how his father raised him. It took my breath away with how genuinely fulfilling this ending felt.
Couple last points: The soundtrack was an absolute bop my dudes! Like wow! The song choices, the original music, it was all just so, so good and so, so perfect. Also enjoyed how the movie didn’t coddle the viewers. It didn’t explain everything straight up. There’s mentions of Vulko before we know who he is, they don’t tell us right when we met her who Mera is, they showed us through her short conversation with her father. The characters felt real, having conversations about things they knew about and not bothering to tell us until we had wondered how they knew, like how Arthur believed his mother to have been executed. They did show don’t tell extremely well throughout the entirety of the movie.
In conclusion, it was an amazing film with a terrific cast, great acting, brilliant and witty writing, breath taking cinematography, believable characters, and beautiful battles. And I loved every second of it.
What did you love?

Challenge: Aquaman au Nyx/Titus
They met the first winter Titus lived in the cabin on the shores of the Galahdian coast.Titus had chosen the place for its remote setting, wanting to be as far away from Insomnia and the royals and the bullshit as possible. He had been a soldier, a commander, and after the war, after Lucis had defeated Niflheim, he had wanted nothing more than peace and quiet and to be as far from the shining falsehood that was the crown city and the people there.That first winter had been brutal, so far beyond anything Titus had been prepared for, and, one evening, as he tried to tie down the shutters, that he saw the man washed up on the beach just down from the cabin.Going to help had been instinctive and he found the young man, dressed in an odd, dark bodysuit, bleeding from a vicious looking wound to his side, left arm bleeding from what looked like some kind of bite, and he had immediately lifted and carried the stranger to the cabin.
He had, as carefully as he could, stripped the young man, wincing at the sight of those wounds, worse than he had originally thought, and grabbed a medical kit.He had just gotten the man’s arm cleaned and wrapped and had started tending to the wound on his side when the man’s eyes, a brilliant, impossible shade of blue, flew open. He had expected panic. He had expected fear. He had not expected the man to move so swiftly, to seize him so strongly by the throat and pin him to the wall, lifting him with seemingly no effort so he was forced up onto the tips of his toes.Gasping, barely able to breath, he watched those eyes, beautiful and wild, flickering about the room, no doubt confused and frightened and Titus lifted a hand, showing his empty palm, trying to show he was not a threat.“It’s…It’s okay,” he croaked. “You’re okay. You’re…I found you on the…the…beach. Brought you…here to tend to your…wounds.”The man frowned and then, it seemed, the adrenaline wore off and he staggered, fingers slipping from Titus’ neck, and the bigger man quickly caught the stranger, holding him carefully, feeling the sharp inhale of breath and he quickly spoke, though his voice was a little rougher.“It’s okay,” he breathed. “It’s okay, I’ve got you. You’re going to be okay.”Titus tended to the man’s wound, learning his name was Nyx and when he asked where Nyx had come from the younger man had given an answer he had not expected.Atlantis. An old legend of a sunken kingdom from the era of the Founder King. And, despite the craziness of it, Titus had accepted it. He had seen impossible things and was willing to go on a little faith. Especially given how Nyx had so easily lifted and pinned him to the wall.Nyx explained he was a prince of his people, heir to his father’s throne, but that his younger half-sister, Selena, had craved the throne and, when their father had recently passed, she had staged a coupe and forced him to flee for his life. He explained how he could never go back.Titus, sympathetic, knowing what it was like to lose your home, offered to share the cabin with Nyx, to teach him how to live on land. Nyx, with no where else to go, stayed.It was far from a perfect thing. Nyx knew nothing about the surface world or how to pass for human and Titus was far from the best teacher. There were difficult days. Days when Nyx snarled that perhaps it would have been better to take his chances with his sister and Titus would snap back that he regretted ever saving Nyx to begin with. But those fights always ended the same way. Quiet apologies and gentle forgiveness.Before long what had started as friendship quickly turned to something else, something more. Which Titus was forced to acknowledge when, early one morning, Nyx crawled into bed with him. That morning, full of touches and kisses and whispered promises, was the first of many and, a few months later, Titus was surprised when Nyx announced he was pregnant.Apparently another difference between Atlanteans and humans but, once the shock wore off, Titus began getting the room that had served as a study into a room for the baby.Nine months later, during a fierce storm that shook the cabin and battered the coast, Nyx gave birth to a beautiful baby boy. A beautiful baby boy with Nyx’ dark tresses and Titus’ fierce green eyes. Titus held them both and peppered Nyx’ face with kisses while gently, carefully, touching their son.“Ardyn,” Nyx whispered tiredly, rocking their son, smiling bright as the sun. “His name is Ardyn. Like the king who tried to unify the land and sea.”Titus pressed a kiss to Nyx’ temple.“He’s perfect,” he said, smiling, not caring what old legend Nyx wanted to name their son after. All he cared about was both Nyx and their son were healthy. “You’re both perfect.”And everything was perfect. For six months.And then came the soldiers. Sent by Nyx’ sister, who had learned he was still alive and a threat to her rule and, to save Titus and Ardyn, whom he had forced to run when he realized the soldiers were there, Nyx sacrificed himself. Titus had been certain he had felt unimaginable pain before but watching Nyx’ body pierced by a sword, watching the man he loved fall, lifeless, to the sand, he realized he had been wrong.Disappearing with Ardyn, back to the much hated Insomnia, back to the safety of the walled city, far from the reaches of Selena and her guards, Titus began planning vengeance. He did not care if it took the rest of his life, he would see Selena dead at his feet for daring to take Nyx from him and, as further revenge, he would see his son, Nyx’ son, rise to take the throne and crown of Atlantis.

BTW, not trying to convince you of anything, I haven't read Shazam! and feel... Complicated about Geoff Johns. Is that a sentence? Not a native English speaker.
Ah, my bad.
Please note if I get testy during this it is absolutely NOT aimed at you in any way, but it’s just how I feel about Johns.
Okay so Geoff Johns was one of the three current comic writers who got me into buying comics on a regular basis in 2005, alongside Grant Morrison and Gail Simone. I was following Johns’ “Teen Titans,” Morrison’s “Seven Soldiers,” and Simone’s “Villains United.”
What got me into Johns’ “TT” was, I was already a Titans fan, but I saw he introduced a version of Batwoman based on Bette Kane. Bette was the original Batgirl in the Silver Age, the niece to Batwoman Kathy Kane, but no one ever referenced that anymore and I love Betty so I wanted to know more.
I was supporting Johns’ Teen Titans as well as his Legion related stuff, JSA, and some of his Green Lantern writing too…
But then came Brightest Day and I began to realize the man had a disturbing tendency to rely on mutilating and dismembering characters, including a lot of Titans such as Pantha, Baby Wildebeest, Damage, and Tempest, as well as Legionnaires like Kinetix. Tempest especially bothered me because apparently Johns didn’t like him because he wasn’t “Bad ass” like Hal Jordan, so Johns went out of his way to kill Tempest’s entire family in “Infinite Crisis” before having his zombie girlfriend murder him.
Flashpoint and The New 52 only solidified my dislike for the man, as I absolutely HATED his Justice League and Aquaman stuff and only supported them because my friend worked on the titles as an inker.
Looking back on his older stuff I saw a lot of other stuff I disliked. There was his gross racist handling of Judomaster in JSA where he retconned out her ability to speak English to pair her up with Damage via having him teach her English, even though in Birds of Prey a year prior she could speak English perfectly.
With his Legion of Super-Heroes writing he retconned Lightning Lad and Saturn Girl, turning Garth into a hothead who barely went a single panel without screaming at someone while Imra could barely control him. The woman used to be called “Iron Ass Imra” and he essentially ripped out her spine. These two had one of the best marriages in the DCU and he ruined it with his toxic masculine bullshit. Thank God Paul Levitz managed to fix this mess.
He also tried to downplay and/or erase Lightning Lass’s queerness by putting her back together with her ex-boyfriend Timber Wolf, ignoring her steady relationship with her girlfriend Shrinking Violet. The two of them were one of the earliest lesbian couple DC had (even if they couldn’t outright say it) but nope, Ayla’s back with Brin like Violet didn’t exist. Again, Paul Levitz rectified this problem.
He turned Star Boy into a caricature of schizophrenics by retconning him into being mentally ill and having him serve as the wacky comic relief in the JSA when he wasn’t breaking the fourth wall or dropping foreshadowing. So basically a ripoff of Deadpool. His whole JSA run really hasn’t aged well.
His Teen Titans consisted of making Superboy obsessed with being a clone of Lex Luthor and Superman, made Wonder Girl obsessed with Superboy, and he drove Rose Wilson insane to make her the new Ravager which included her graphically gouging out her own eye after her father pumped her full of drugs.
His love for Barry Allen and Hal Jordan blatantly outshines his work with the other Flash and Green Lantern characters, and he’s essentially crafted a sequel to Watchmen no one asked for or needed in order to absolve Barry Allen, God of the Silver Age, of ruining the DCU by blaming it all on Doctor Manhattan.
He’s also obsessed with portraying morally grey men and downright evil men like Captain Cold, Sinestro, Black Adam, and Superboy Prime as flawed individuals who are, at the end of the day heroic, when they do completely horrible things and never get punished for them. Cold’s a hypocrite with how he’ll ignore certain Rogues breaking his precious rules but then makes a big deal of how other villains violate said rules. SInestro is a sociopath who murdered Kyle Rayner’s mother in cold blood just to break Kyle’s will, but still gets to be remembered as a great Green Lantern. Adam brutally slaughters people like the Psycho Pirate and almost no one complains. And Prime is a monster who’s murdered children and pregnant woman, including an entire world, but is still considered a victim. He’s now added Doctor Manhattan to the list, since he claims a man who orchestrated the death of Alan Scott and casually fucked up an entire universe simply to see what would happen is somehow not a villain.
Whatever small bits of writing from him I still like are not enough for me to still be an overall fan of him. I don’t care what he’s done with Shazam, I don’t care if people think it’s been really good. If other people like it I’m happy they’re enjoying it.
But really, fuck him. Fuck him a million times over. I hope there comes a day when DC throws his ass out the door along with Didio, Eddie Berganza, Tom King, James Robinson, Bob Harras, Scott Lobdell. Jim Lee, and all the other fake geek guy assholes who’ve practically ruined DC’s characters for all of us.
Geoff Johns makes me sick to my stomach as a comic fan, a writer, a man, and a human being.
Yet there is still a part of me that wonders, looking back on the stuff he did for Stars and S.T.R.I.P.E., what someone at that fucking company must’ve done to him. And I do feel bad his work keeps getting interfered with by editors, just not enough to absolve him of his own individual grossness.

off the rack #1242
Monday, December 24, 2018
 I was hit by a spasm of back pain on Saturday like the ghost of Christmas Past. That'll teach me for being such a Scrooge this time of year. I try not to be naughty but being nice is such a pain in the pants. I am slowly recovering under the gentle ministrations of Santa's Helper. Being around family and friends is better medicine than any pain pills I could take. My brother and sister-in-law hosted a brunch yesterday and seeing everyone together laughing and happy soothed me greatly. Just holding baby Oliver and making him smile eased my back pain.
 I saw the Ottawa premiere of Aquaman thanks to my Jee-Riz partner Chris, who won passes from the comic book store Myths, Legends and Heroes. I can sum up how I felt about the movie in one word; wigs. I wish they had spent some of the Atlantis special effects budget on better wigs for the actors. Arthur's dad's toupee was glaringly obvious. I've seen better hair on Cosplayers than Nicole Kidman's wigs. It looked like Amber Heard/Mera was wearing a wig at times but even when it looked like her real hair the colour red they chose was too unnatural looking. The movie's saving grace for me was Jason Momoa. He makes a great Arthur/Aquaman. I'm glad I didn't pay to see this one.
 Ugh. Stan Lee tribute covers. Terrible marketing idea.
 Dead Man Logan #2 - Ed Brisson (writer) Mike Henderson (art) Nolan Woodard (colours) VC's Cory Petit (letters). A couple of things really annoyed me this issue. Sin, the Red Skull's daughter, acted like a spoiled brat. It's not a stretch to foresee the villains losing at the end of this 12-issue story. Then we have Forge repairing a machine that can get Old Man Logan back home. They actually go there and he doesn't stay. I'm for super heroics as much as the next nerd and maybe I'm selfish, but that irked me to no end. Old Man Logan has been whining about getting home ever since he showed up in this timeline and now he wants to stay to prevent all the super heroes from being killed by all the super villains. There isn't even a guarantee that is what happens in the future. And why don't they use the machine to fix things? Man I hate time travel. I really like Mike Henderson's art but this looks like another travelling super heroes versus super villains battle every issue, and that's not very interesting to me.
 Defenders: The Best Defense #1 - Al Ewing (writer) Joe Bennett (pencils) Belardino Brabo (inks) Dono Sanchez Almara (colours) VC's Clayton Cowles (letters). It's the big Defenders reunion to save Earth. Old Man Dr. Strange, Hulk, Namor and the Silver Surfer have to sidetrack The Train in order for Earth to survive. It's a bit complicated and I'm surprised that you didn't really need to read all the one-shots to get what's going on. I mean all those scenes where the stabby killer in the bed sheet is killing aliens isn't even mentioned in this story. So what was up with that?
 Marvel Knights #4 - Vita Ayala & Donny Cates (writers) Joshua Cassara (art) Matt Milla (colours) VC's Cory Petit (letters). Here's where they explain why all the super heroes have forgotten who they are. T'Challa/Black Panther is featured in this issue that ends with him discovering the lair of villains. I'm wondering how the bad guys retained their memories.
 Old Man Hawkeye #12 - Ethan Sacks (writer) Francesco Mobili (art) Andres Mossa (colours) VC's Joe Caramagna (letters). That was a very satisfying ending. What a great prequel to the Old Man Logan story where Clint and Logan go on a road trip. This is where Clint loses his sight for good. I loved the last page epilogue showing Clint tracking down someone who will help him to continue to fight the bad guys despite his blindness.
 Runaways #16 - Rainbow Rowell (writer) Kris Anka (art) Matthew Wilson (colours) VC's Joe Caramagna (letters). Reading this Christmas special is better than getting a lump of coal. Having Doombot as a dinner guest made this a treat. I wish he was a regular member of the team.
 West Coast Avengers #6 - Kelly Thompson (writer) Daniele Di Nicuolo (art) Triona Farrell (colours) VC's Joe Caramagna (letters). The good guys have been captured by the bad guys: Satana Hellstrom, M.O.D.O.K., The Eel and Madame Masque. Kate is still free however and she's not going to abandon her team mates. Too bad she gets waylaid on her way to rescue them. Her captor is a complete surprise, which will make the next issue a hoot.
 Thor #8 - Jason Aaron (writer) Mike del Mundo (art) VC's Joe Sabino (letters). This is an awesome issue with Thor fighting the Angelus. It ends with an ex-Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. being paid a visit by the Black Panther. I like how this book is being tied into The Avengers.
 Season's Beatings #1 - Jason Latour (writer) Greg Hinkle, Chris Brunner, Veronica Fish & Mario Del Pennino (art) Rico Renzi, Jim Campbell & Veronica Fish (colours) VC's Travis Lanham (letters). I should have realized from the cover that this was a Deadpool Christmas Special. If I had known, I would have bought a pair of socks from the Dollar Store with the $4.99 US that this comic book costs. Unless of course, you're a big Deadpool fan or West Coast Avengers fan or even an X-Force fan. They're all in here too. Plus Squirrel Girl and Doctor Doom. Come to think of it, this is an everything but the kitchen sink gift for a Marvel Comics fan who will get a few chuckles out of it.
 Freedom Fighters #1 - Robert Venditti (writer) Eddy Barrows (pencils) Eber Ferreira (inks) Adriano Lucas (colours) Deron Bennett (letters). This is some heavy duty patriotic poop right here. We start this 12-issue story in 1963 America that is ruled by Adolf Hitler and his "ratzi" party. The original Freedom Fighters meet to plot a resistance attack on a war robot factory. Things don't go well for the good guys. Jump forward to 2018 and the surprise appearance of the New Freedom Fighters; Black Condor, Doll Woman, the Human Bomb and Phantom Lady. All we need is Uncle Sam. Robert Venditti holds nothing back showing the Germans as ruthless racists. The art is really well done so I will give these Golden Age heroes a chance to see how they fare in modern times.
 Middlewest #2 - Skottie Young (writer) Jorge Corona (art) Jean Francois Beaulieu (colours) Nate Piekos (letters). A new character named Jeb is introduced who helps Abel get out of a bind. Jeb reminds me of the first time we meet Gandalf. Abel's quest continues and we find out a bit more about the symbol on his chest. I predict he'll meet his mother down the road but unlike the talking fox, I won't be travelling down it with him.
 Cover #4 - Brian Michael Bendis (writer) David Mack (art) Michael Avon Oeming (Owen art) Zu Orzu (colours) Carlos Mangual (letters). This issue is a great example of how a comic book can tell a story with words and pictures. I felt like I was watching a TV show or a short film. Brian, David and Michael work together seamlessly
 Hardcore 1 - Robert Kirkman & Andy Diggle (writers) Alessandro Vitti (art) Adriano Lucas (colours) Thomas Mauer (letters). Yeah man, it is. Agent Drake is a drone pilot but what he controls are other human beings. A new nanotechnology allows him to take over and move a remote body for 72 hours so he can complete wetwork missions. It's really cool. The big problem arises when the guy who invented the tech comes back to reclaim it from the government. That guy is not asking nicely. I like this concept and the predicament that Agent Drake finds himself in at the end of this issue. Therefore, this goes on to my "must read" list.
 Klaus and the Crying Snowman #1 - Grant Morrison (writer) Dan Mora (art) Ed Dukeshire (letters). This $7.99 US one-shot tells the tale of how Sam the snowman helps Klaus save the Earth from murderous aliens. I loved how they wove in Norse mythology. You'd think a crying snowman would be doomed in the end and you'd be right, but fear not, 'tis a happy ending.
 Betty & Veronica #1 - Jamie Lee Rotante (writer) Sandra Lanz (art) Kelly Fitzpatrick (colours) Jack Morelli (letters). The BFFs are back with a 5-issue mini that starts off their senior year of high school. I know that these slightly more mature Archie Comics want to draw in a new audience but Betty dating Reggie? Sacrilege. A few other things bothered me storywise that turned me off even more. Betty drinking a spiked punch without noticing? C'mon. Then there's the art. I didn't like the interiors compared to the nice cover that Sandra drew. I expected my girl Betty to be treated better than this.
 Catwoman #6 - Joelle Jones (story & art) Laura Allred (colours) Josh Reed (letters). The finale of "Copycats" is a quick read so I read it twice. The first time was to see how Catwoman deals with the evil Mrs. Creel and her pumped up on drugs son. The second time was to see Catwoman in action and to savour the beautiful art and layouts. I wish Joelle Jones would do a Betty & Veronica mini.
 Extermination #5 - Ed Brisson (writer) Pepe Larraz (art) Marte Gracia (colours) VC's Joe Sabino (letters). I tolerated this time travel tale because of the amazing art. I wish Pepe Larraz would do a Betty & Veronica mini. If you thought that the mutants being exterminated was a real threat then you haven't been reading X-Men comic books for very long. This story puts the young X-Men back in their own time and all is well again. The big surprise comes on the last page and I'm thinking "oh geez, here we go again".
 Domino #9 - Gail Simone (writer) David Baldeon & Michael Shelfer (art) Roberto Poggi (ink assist) Guru-eFX (colours) VC's Clayton Cowles (letters). Soldier of Fortune part 3. The ladies are asked to kill Longshot. Haven't seen him in a while. Might not see him for long though, since he's supposed to bring about the end of the world. This is interesting because both Domino and Longshot have the same super power. Who's luck is going to run out first?
 Firefly #2 - Greg Pak (writer) Dan McDaid (art) Marcelo Costa (colours) Jim Campbell (letters). Mal and Zoe are being hunted by a gang of thieves and the Alliance. Darn tootin' there's going to be shootin'. I have been watching Nathan Fillion's new cop show The Rookie and I quite like it.
 Batman #61 - Tom King (writer) Travis Moore (art) Tamra Bonvillain (colours) Clayton Cowles (letters). Knightmares part 1. The "what the!?" appearance on the last page of #60 is explained here as a new story starts. I knew something was hinky when I saw the string of pearls around the dead body of Martha Wayne in the alley. I thought we were in an alternate universe and we sort of are but it came as a complete shock when what was going on was explained. Arkham Asylum is getting a new inmate. At least he's new to me unless I want to go back and read Batman #38.

Part 1 / Part 2 / Part 3 / Part 4
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You sat in your bedroom on your too soft for your liking bed staring blankly at your crown. A starfish sat front and center showcasing a giant sapphire heart that you father had found years before on the ocean floor. A tiny, perfect, tear drop shaped pearl hung below it, and two thin chains came off the bottom legs of the starfish, laid perfectly against your forehead and connected to the band just in front of your ears when you wore it. The rest of the band was a gorgeous collection of shells of different shapes and sizes that had been found in the various seas and oceans your father ruled over. You brushed your thumb across the dark blue gemstone in the middle, you think it was called the heart of the ocean, as you wondered how your father was doing. It was the first time in your life that you had ever been away from home this long and no matter how much you didn’t wanna admit it, you missed Atlantis.
“Um… Goddess?” You glanced up at Bucky and laughed as you set your crown back on your head.
“No, sweetheart. Just (Y/N), please.” He nodded as he came into your room nervously.
“OK. I just wanted to come check on you. I didn’t see you at lunch.” Your brow furrowed as you   tilted your head to the side.
“Am I supposed to be somewhere at a certain time?” He smirked at you as he grabbed the chair from your disk… no, desk… and pulled it up to the end of your bed.
“No, doll. You don’t have to. I just… I know what it’s like to be in a strange place and not really know anyone you’re there with.” You nodded your head in understanding as you fiddled with the sea glass bracelet on your right wrist.
“I miss home.” You said softly as you looked down at the glass pieces. “I miss the ocean and my father. But… don’t tell him that.” You said with a huffed laugh as you looked up at the super soldier with a shake of your head. “He’ll just say he told me so.”
“Your secret is safe with me. What else do you miss? Maybe I can help.” You smiled at him as you scooted forward on the bed. You instantly groaned as you pulled on the confining legs of the pants you had on because they didn’t wanna move with you.
“These… things!” You laughed as you pulled at the uncomfortable material. Bucky muttered ‘jeans’ under his breath as you yanked at them to try to make them more comfortable. “I don’t like them.”
“Well that is an easy fix.” He laughed with a nod of his head. “I can have one of the girls take you shopping…”
“Shopping?”
“Umm… buying clothes? Trading money for things you need.”
“Oh!” You said as a smile stretched across your face. “Like bartering.”
“Just like that.” He laughed. You quickly got up from the bed with a smile ready to go shopping.
“OK so let’s go.” You said as you grabbed his wrist and pulled him toward the door.
“Wait! You need shoes, baby girl.” You looked at him as you tried to place the word you had learned the day before and he subtly pointed at your bare feet.
“Oh! Right, feet covers.” He laughed at you as you went over to the closet, which you were calling the ‘clothing keeper’ and looked at the various options you had. After a moment, you saw Bucky’s hand slide in front of you and grab a pair of black, strappy, flat ones. He took a knee beside you and you held on to his shoulder as he slid the sandal on your foot.
“Yea, I better go with you.” He teased as he put the sandal on your other foot. “It’ll be easier than reminding the girls that they actually have to teach you how to be human.” You huffed as you gently hit him on the shoulder.
“I can be a human, thank you.” You chided as he stood up and looked down at you. He nodded unbelievingly as he reached up to adjust one of the chains on your crown.
“Sure you can, doll. Come on, let’s go see what Wanda and Natasha are doing and see if they’ll help.”
——
“(Y/N), not it the road!” Wanda called out with a laugh as Bucky grabbed your arm and pulled you back onto the curb. You let out another ‘oh’ as you watched a car whiz past you right where you were just standing.
“Why are they in such a hurry?” You asked as you let Bucky lead you down the street while keeping an eye on both you and Wanda.
“That’s New York, doll. Everyone’s in a hurry.” You nodded as your eyes darted around at the tall buildings that surrounded you and reminded you of the lions in the zoo cage.
“Let’s try in here.” Wanda said as she pointed to a little shop on the corner. You looked up at the giant flower above the door and followed after your new friend into the store. “We’ll stick to long skirts.” She said as she grabbed a sea foam green, floor length skirt off the rack and held it up to look at it. “That and crop tops. It’ll be the closest thing we can get to what she wears at home?” She looked over at Bucky with her eyebrow raised as she handed you the skirt.
“If you think so. I’m a little… no! Not out here!” Bucky said sharply as he grabbed your wrist to stop you from taking off your jeans in the middle of the store. His and Wanda’s faces flushed red as you looked at them, confused.
“When you’re in public, you have to change in a fitting room, OK sweetie? Not out here. So for right now, let’s button these back up while we pick out some outfits to try on.” Wanda hesitated as she glanced down and watched you button your jeans back up before looking at Bucky and hissing. “Does she even have underwear on?”
“My guess is no.” Bucky responded as he rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly. Wanda nodded as she looked around the little store with a sigh as you played with the material of a shiny shirt on the rack in front of you.
“Alright then. This is going to be really interesting.” Wanda laughed as she turned to start grabbing clothes for you so she could put an end to this uncomfortable situation as fast as possible.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“OK, now you have to promise me that you will put one pair of panties and a bra on every day under your clothes.” Wanda whispered as she pointed at the small pile the store clerk was shoving in one of the many shopping bags. You nodded your head as you rubbed the cotton fabric of your new sky blue skirt between your thumb and pointer finger. The woman behind the counter handed Bucky the last of at least ten bags with a small smile as Wanda reached in front of you to pay.
“May we go to the zoo again?” You asked as you looked up at Bucky, ignoring the strange look the woman was giving you as she stared at you and your crown. “I’d like to visit my babies.”
“We can.” He said slowly as he glanced at Wanda. “But you have to stay outside the fence this time.” You pouted out your bottom lip and followed him toward the door as Wanda grabbed the receipt and followed after the pair of you.
“But that just doesn’t seem fair to me.” You said as Wanda quickly ran to your side and laced her arm with yours to keep you from straying into the street again. “Those poor babies deserved be loved…”
“Yes they do.” Wanda interrupted politely. “But look at it this way. You are the goddess of the animals so those lions will know you mean no harm. But say a child sees you simply walk into the cage the way you did. Just say they slip through the bars and go into the cage as well. Your babies aren’t going to understand that that child doesn’t mean any harm and they could attack and severely hurt them.”
“Oh, no!” You gasped as you realized what she was getting at. “No, that just won’t do.” Wanda smirked and exchanged a glance with Bucky who was fighting to control his own laugh as you shook your head. “No, we can’t have that at all.”
“So we can go to the zoo again, but you have to agree to stay outside the fences.” Bucky clarified as he moved all the clothing bags to his right hand. You nodded your head in agreement as you stopped to wait at a street corner they way the other two Avengers were.
“Everything feels like a zoo here.” You said as you looked around at the busy Manhattan streets. “Cages everywhere for animals and people alike. You don’t see that in Atlantis.”
“It’s quite different here.” Wanda agreed as she pulled gently on your arm so you could all cross the road to drop off the shopping bags before continuing on to the zoo. “I’m from Sokovia originally. Moving to a big city like this was very confusing for a while.” You nodded at her and studied her face as she spoke; trying to pick up on where the sudden sadness was coming from.
“You miss it.” You said simply as the three of you stopped at another busy street corner. She glanced over at you for a moment before looking down at her feet.
“I miss my brother. He passed away on a mission a few years back.” You nodded your head slowly and gave her a tight lipped smile.
“I’m so sorry, Wanda. Would you like me to take that pain?” You offered as you took your hand off her upper arm and held it out in front of her. She shook her head and looked back up at you with a smile.
“It makes me stronger.” She said with a nod of her head. “Pietro was my best friend. His death was tragic but it meant something. I don’t want to remove that…”
“Of course, sweetheart.” You said as you pat her arm and continued walking. “Death, while it’s painful, builds character.” You heard someone scream to your right and all three of your heads whipped in that direction instantly.
“What was that?” Wanda asked as you pulled away from her arm and instantly headed down a space between two tall people cages. You heard her call your name as you held up the edge of your skirt and took off at a run toward a mean looking man that was trying to take something from a woman. You instantly felt your blood boil and spent a quarter of a second wondering what was wrong with the unredeemable lost soul in front of you. When you reached the pair, you grabbed the abuser by the throat and threw him hard against the wall behind him. The brick instantly crumbled and the man gasped a rattling breath to regain the air you knocked from his lungs.
“No!” You said as you pointed at him angrily. “You do not do that!” The terrified yet still ballsy man reached down and scrambled to grab a gun from a holder on his hip but he hesitated as an evil laugh poured from your lips. “Oh yes, please.” You said as the pearl on your crown began to glow pinkish orange; calling for your signature weapon from the depths of the ocean. “Please give me a reason.” You held up one hand toward Bucky to keep him back as the man cocked his weapon and pointed it at your chest. Before he could even pull the trigger, your quindent; an almost mirror image to your father’s slammed into your hand. With one quick spin, you gripped it over your head and slammed it into the man with a loud growl. He opened his mouth in a silent scream as blood pooled beneath him and in half a dozen heart beats, he was gone. You pulled your quindent out of his body and quickly crouched down in front of him.
“Your soul is cleansed. May you be lost no more.” You said as you reached out put your hand on his forehead. You felt the dark soul pass through your palm and come out brighter on the other side on it’s way to the afterlife. You let out a sigh and shook your head as you pulled yourself up right with your weapon. “He couldn’t be saved.” You said with a shake of your head as you looked back at Bucky and Wanda’s stunned faces. “Not until death.” Bucky nodded his head and reached his hand out to you cautiously.
“Let’s head back to the tower, OK doll?” You held up your finger at him and glanced over at the woman who had been getting attacked in the first place.
“Give me the pain, my child.” You said as you stepped over at her and crouched down. You slowly put your hand out to her, knowing how scary you must be to her, and nodded reassuringly at her. “It’s OK. I won’t harm you.” She looked up at you with tears in her eyes and nodded as she set her hand on yours.
“T-thank y-y-you.” She sobbed as you absorbed the fear and pain she would otherwise hold on to for years that would darken her soul. You smiled as strongly as you could and stumbled a step as you stood up.
“Go home, Jeanie. Do not let this shape the beautiful woman you are.” She looked up at you stunned as you turned to walk away and stumbled again as your whole body paled.
“Wanda.” Bucky shouted as he caught you before you fell. “We gotta get her water.”
“I got this.” She said as she grabbed the bags of clothes and your quindent with her powers. “Bring her straight up to the pool.” Bucky nodded in agreement and watched you curl into his chest as he took off at a run back to the tower.

You’re not blind, but can you see?
Have you seen commercials for the Apple TV show, “See”? It features Jason Mamoa (Aquaman), and it’s about a post-apocalyptic society where everyone is blind, and in every conceivable way, culture has devolved. Society has figured out new ways to survive but not thrive.
In the middle of this culture of blindness, twins are born who can see.
Season one of the show isn’t good, but the concept is intriguing. What does it mean to see if everyone is blind, and just as importantly, how does society respond to someone who has true sight?
youtube
See in real life!
One of my favorite Jesus stories is “See” in real life. It’s about a blind man who Jesus encounters as his disciples are debating why this man was born blind (Whose sin was it? The man or his parents?). The disciples argued, but Jesus simply gifted the man with sight. Amazing, right?
It was so amazing that this great work of God brought the blind man, his family, the community and it’s leaders together. They broke out in song and dance. Jesus has brought peace to the community.
Didn’t he?
As we read on, we see several responses to this act of God, and instead of bringing people together, it set them at odds. Jesus healed the man’s physical blindness, and at the same time, he exposed the spiritual blindness of the man’s family, his community, and the leaders.
Our culture paints Jesus as a great prophet who wanted to bring peace to the world. There is some truth to this suggestion, but just as often as Jesus brought people together, he also divided men and women because of how they SAW God, leadership, and politics.
Don’t miss that.
Jesus divides as often as he brings people together. Jesus is consistently asking you and me a question. It’s a question that divides as often as it unites.
“What do you see?”
Everybody loves drama.
If you love a good soap opera (or maybe a quirky sitcom), you’ll enjoy how the story plays out. It moves from scene to scene with everyone getting their say about who Jesus is. Everyone involved believes they can see exactly what is happening. As you read you’ll see only one person can see the truth.
Scene 1: Confusion
The man’s friends and neighbors saw confusion. One morning this man that they’ve only known as blind left the neighborhood. That same afternoon he returned able to see. Questions immediately fly in from those closest to him.
Was this really the man they had grown up with? How could he now see? Who could do such a thing? Did Jesus really dare heal (work) on the Sabbath (which was against the Jewish code of laws)?
The neighborhood responded with confusion.
Scene 2: Anger
The community leaders (the Pharisees) saw through the lens of anger. They already didn’t trust Jesus, and now this uneducated, former blind man claimed Jesus was sent from God. Again, questions zing from these religious leaders.
Who was this outsider challenging their authority? If Jesus is sent by God, why would he blatantly break their (and his own) law? How can a ‘sinner’ be from God? They have studied theology and God all their lives, so who is this unschooled beggar acting as if he knows more than they?
Also confused, the Pharisees responded with anger.
Scene 3: Fear
The man’s parents saw with fear. Yes, indeed that was their son. Yes, he was born blind, but now he has full and complete sight. They couldn’t deny the work of God in their son’s life, but they wouldn’t take a position on who Jesus is.
No way.
The man’s parents know the Pharisees hate Jesus. They know these men have the power to ex-communicate them from the local synagogue — destroying their reputation in the community. How can they take that risk for this poor, itinerant preacher (even one who has healed their son)?
The family responded with fear.
Scene 4: Faith
Finally, the man himself, sees only faith. What questions are there to ask? What is there to be confused about?
He tells his friends and neighbors it was Jesus who healed him (yes, on the Sabbath, but who really cares?). Some rules are made to be broken.  Why should he be angry with Jesus?
In an act of boldness, he stands up to the Pharisees declaring Jesus must be from God. He doesn’t side with his parents, and he doesn’t buckle under the Pharisee’s pressure. Why should he be afraid of these men, who, compared to Jesus, are powerless?
His position is clear. God sent Jesus. He will choose to trust in what Jesus teaches and claims.
The man born blind responds with faith.
Ironically, the blind man is the only one who can truly see!
It is Everyman.
It’s important to note John never named the man in the story. This story takes up an entire chapter of the Gospel of John (a total of 21 chapters), and we have no idea who he is. Maybe John had a reason for leaving the man unnamed.
Did he just forget? Did he not want to do the research to find the man’s name?  Possibly, but I believe there something deeper. This man is more than just another encounter in the life of Jesus. He represents you and me.
He is Everyman. This man born blind is you. He is me.
We too are blind. You and I suffer from spiritual blindness. We can’t see what is truly happening in the world around us. We need to encounter Jesus, so he can give us sight. But be warned, when Jesus arrives we must respond.
How will you respond to Jesus? Will you be confused, angry or afraid?
All of those responses come from a place of blindness. The community could physically see, but they were spiritually blind. The family could physically see, but they were spiritually blind. The leaders could physically see, but they were spiritually blind.
Belief opens your spiritual eyes. And when your eyes are finally opened, you will respond in one (and only one) way.
Worship is power
At the very beginning of the story, before the man was healed from his blindness, the disciples wonder why the man was born blind. Their question kicks-off this sequence of events. Jesus’ response has nothing to do with the sin of the parents nor the man. Jesus says it’s “so the power of God could be seen in him” (the blind man).
What is power? Is it healing blindness? Is it raising the dead?
At the end of the story, the man sees Jesus again, this time clearly, and with a complete picture of what it means to follow Jesus. He knows it means some people will be confused. The man understands it means other people will be angry. He knows it means some will be afraid. He knows it means a few will believe. His eyes can see, but more importantly, he now sees with his spiritual eyes.
With all of this information, the man makes the ultimate declaration of faith in Jesus. He falls to his knees and worships Jesus.
Worship is true power. What I worship defines what I bend my will to. If you have my heart, you have me, so worship is the ultimate sign of power. It’s what Jesus told his disciples before he healed man. The power of God was on display when the man was healed, but it was truly seen when he fell to his knees and worshiped Jesus.
Do you see?
When a person truly sees, the only response is worship.
Unfortunately, worship doesn’t bring world peace. Worship won’t unite kingdoms. It may cause confusion, anger or fear. It may, in fact, cause rejection.
At the end of the ages, Jesus will bring peace. Right now, Jesus divides as much as he bring together. He’s looking for people whose eyes are open. He’s looking for people who will worship him.
It’s okay to be confused by Jesus. You can be afraid about what it means to follow Jesus. It’s even okay to be angry about what Jesus is asking you to do, think or believe. The question is will you come to a place of believing in who Jesus said he was – the Son of God?
Do you see? Will you worship?

Chapter 5: The Basics of Buoyancy
The first thing I had to teach him was how to breathe underwater. It’s funny to think about that, teaching a person how to breathe. It’s one of those things that you wouldn’t think there’s a wrong way and a right way to do—like laughing or hiccupping or hair growing or heart beating—because most of the time it just is. But if you don’t know how to breathe properly in the water at best you’ll never be able to master anything else and at worst you could drown. So proper technique is paramount.
At first Ari wanted to use his thumb and forefinger to pinch and plug his nose whenever his head went underwater. But I knew he’d have to use his arms eventually to learn the different strokes so I told him he needed to think like a fish.
“The first rule in the basics of buoyancy: embrace the bubbles.”
“Embrace the bubbles? Try saying that ten times fast…basicsofbuyoancyembracethebubbes…basicsofbuyoancyembracethebubbes…”
“Well, maybe not embrace per se, but don’t be afraid of them.”
“You think I’m afraid of bubbles?”
“Yeah until you show me otherwise.”
He kind of scoffed at me but smiled, too, and he did exactly what I told him to do. So I knew he’d be a good pupil. We started out with him practicing with his face half-submerged so he could blow bubbles out of his nose in a long steady stream. Then we worked on quick breathing with a fast inhale above the surface and then exhaling bubbles below. Pretty soon he got the hang of it. Though he still scrunched up his nose underwater in this scowl-y way that made me smile.
Then I taught him the different types of kicks: the flutter kick, whip kick and egg beater kick. The name of the last one cracked him up.
“What if I want to do the migas or frittata kick instead?”
“You can call it whatever name you want as long as you’re doing it properly.”
“Ok, whatever you say, Mr. Miyagi.”
I liked being his teacher, despite his sarcastic jokes. In fact, his jokes were probably the main reason why I liked it. That and helping him feel safe and confident in the water.
We moved on to how to tread water. That’s also sort of funny to think about…teaching someone how to stay where they are.
I said, “To tread water you have to do the eggbeater kick and use your hands to keep your balance by sculling.”
“By what?”
“Sculling.”
“Ok I’ve never heard that word in my life. Are you a walking dictionary?”
“It means you gotta keep your arms flat on the surface and move one clockwise and the other counterclockwise. Imagine they’re butter knives spreading on a piece of toast.”
“Again with the breakfast food obsession. What’s next…the Egg McMuffinkick?”
“Actually the peanut butter and jellyfish kick is my personal favorite.”
“Ok you should dolphinitely scale back on the fish puns if you’re ever going to teach me anything.”
We both laughed so much Ari inhaled water into his nose and ended up sort of choking. So that was the end of our first lesson.
We hung out at the pool together all the rest of the morning and discovered things about each other. What we had in common and what we didn’t. What comics and books and movies we thought ruled and what we thought was terrible. We agreed on a lot but disagreed, too.
“Let me guess…you’ve never read Aquaman? This explains why we needed this lesson today,” I joked.
“Har-har. I have so read Aquaman but they don’t exactly teach you how to do the butter kick or whatever you called it.”
“Flutter kick not butter kick.”
“But anyway in a DC Marvel face-off Hydro-Man would kick Aquaman’s butt easy.”
“Who the heck is Hydro-Man?”
“A supervillain Spider-Man fights. He can transform into water, hence the highly creative name they gave him.”
“I’d take Archie and Veronica to Spider-Man any day.”
“Ok I’m going to pretend I didn’t hear that.”
We stayed at the pool until it was time to head home for lunch. Since I lived so close to the pool we walked home together.
“Wow it’s so cool you live so close to the pool and the park,” he said.
“Yeah, I like it.”
We looked at each other and I kind of wished we could keep talking forever and I wanted to invite him for lunch but I chickened out.
“You ready for swimming lesson number two tomorrow? I think you might be able to move on to the crawl stroke. But it’s easier with goggles. I’ll bring my extra pair. And my kick board.”
“I’ll practice the fluffernutter kick tonight in my room so I’ll have it perfected by tomorrow.”
“You’re gonna be an A+ student.”

Do you have any HCs about cw!Cynthia's past. Like who the ex Kadabra killed or like who the collectors are. I lean towards the 80s JL of detroit lineup (minus cisco and aquaman) so her ex was probably Nate and they all probably died in some really tragic way so she is the only the only one left.
Oh this is a good ask, let’s see. These hcs are kind of rough works in progress so be gentle:
Oh, your idea that her ex was Nate is pretty dope. I lean toward thinking that maybe her partner wasn’t a meta at all. He was just a guy with the gadgetry and the smarts to do what he did. I feel like it’s plausible the Council (that’s what I’ve taken to calling the bosses of the Collectors) probably assigned a non-meta partner for every meta Collector as kind of a contingency. And I’d actually rather her ex partner be someone we haven’t met before in DCTV, but they could still possibly be a DC comics character (still haven’t decided who yet, if they’re not an oc).
More on the contingency plan part, I feel like, just like E2 and E1, there is a sort of way of looking at metahumans as if they are menaces to society, and maybe I’ve been watching too much Nikita (I have) but I kind of imagined the Collectors as a program where it was like “your powers make you too dangerous to be a part of society, so you either work for us or we hunt you down.”
Cindy, being kind of a natural survivor and/or tough girl was like “okay I can do this” also the fact that for the most part the criminals are actually Not Good People
interdimensional travel isn’t something any average Joe can do, and she and the speedsters of her earth are the only ones who can do it with their powers, other people have to use gadgets to do it. They’re sold on the black market and they are not cheap. So if you’re traveling to another earth you’re not doing it accidentally.
Cindy is trained, they all are. It’s kind of like the military in that regard, or at least like some type of spy training. They receive some of the best education, and they’re trained in tracking, stealth, and combat. And Cindy excelled in all of it, which is why, though a flawed system, she’s proud of her record as a Collector.
I imagine Cindy grew up in the Collector’s program. The PA blew, or however metas got their powers happened when she was in high school, which made school even harder, because while she was brilliant, it’s exactly why she wasn’t doing so well grade wise. Because she was fucking bored. She understood what they were teaching, but she couldn’t give two shits about it. And she probably got into a lot of arguments with teachers.
Cindy’s partner was probably a lot more lax than she was. He had the luxury of being that way because he wasn’t a meta, so failure wasn’t the end of the world for him. (and for the sake of this low-key parallel to real life events i’ll just say her partner was a White). He was a fantastic “operative”, so to speak, and he wasn’t sloppy by any means, but it was clear it was more of a game to him than an actual job. They both felt as if it was work that needed to be done--Cindy is one of the best Collectors they’ve got and she likes having something she excels at--but her partner didn’t take the danger of it as seriously as he could have, and that’s eventually what got him killed.
Her partner didn’t take the threat of Abra Kadabra seriously, just like in the actual episode Cisco didn’t really take him as seriously as he could have, I feel like that’s where the similarities between Cisco and her partner end, but it was enough to keep her on edge in the episode, at least that’s how I see it.
Cynthia has probably met another viber before, especially since she seems to know that they’re called “vibes”, unless that’s just a multiversal thing that everyone who can vibe knows what it’s called. That being said, she’s never met a Cisco before. I know a lot of people think she’s either met or been in love with some version of Cisco but I don’t think she has.
“In all the multiverse, I’ve never met anyone like you, Cisco.” Like...bruh that line was important. As someone in a job where she’s learned the most efficient way to get things done is to put emotions to the side, and this guy steps up to her and he’s kind and funny and almost entirely ruled by his heart, but he still steps to her and is willing to fight her “to the death” to save some jack ass.
And what’s worse is that it makes her want him to win, almost. The situation is impossible, and maybe she gets sloppy because she’s never met anyone like him, and she doesn’t think she could kill him even if she’d had the drop on him. So I still don’t know what that means in terms of whether she let him win or not, whether she would have actually let him kill her, but the fact that she was surprised by his mercy even then I thought was incredibly poignant in their dynamic
I actually still have a lot of thoughts to form about her family life and how Cindy was when she first got her powers, what was the first thing she did with them, how the Collector’s got a hold of her and all that, but I’ll have to revisit it because I need to be able to condense it and this list is already super long.
