Dinner
Tumblr media
It was the gentle hand on her shoulder that woke her up. It took Lena a moment to understand where she was, fighting off sleep as she tried to keep her eyes open. Her gaze landed on her beautiful girlfriend, smiling softly at her while mumbling a few words Lena could not yet cohesively hear in her sleepy state.
Kara stood up once she noticed Lena's eyes weren't closing anymore and gave her a kiss on the forehead. "I'm gonna take a quick shower. I left you a glass of water next to the bed, go downstairs when you're ready, food should be done soon."
It was the smell of the cooking from downstairs that woke her up fully. Lena realised she had not eaten all day, she was positively starving. Drinking some water helped wake her up a little bit more, though she really wished for some coffee. It was probably best not to drink anything with caffeine if she wanted any chance to sleep tonight, especially after napping for– two hours? Has it really been that long?
Lena finished her water and went to her suitcase. It was just the two of them in the middle of a sleepy town somewhere in Ireland, but it was their first date, well, along with their first couple retreat – wow, they really did not do anything in order, Lena chuckled to herself – she wanted to look good for Kara. Lena picked up a deep red cashmere turtleneck sweater and a pair of black skinny jeans. She wanted to show more skin, but unfortunately the heating in the living room was not as prominent as she hoped, she did go a bit extra on the make up, using the deep maroon lipstick that Kara seemed to be quite drawn to. Stretching out the last dust off her sleep, she walked down the stairs of the old house.
The smell was the first thing to hit her once she got downstairs. It got harder and harder to contain her hunger with the amazing aromas coming from the pot cooking on the stove. She decided to busy herself with setting the table while waiting for Kara, using the fanciest utensils she could find. While cleaning some of the grocery bags, she spotted some candles lying around, smiling to herself, she placed one in an old candle holder and lit it up. A truly romantic dinner.
Kara walked down the stairs wearing fitted black trousers that really complimented her well built figure that Lena adored, a deep blue shirt tank top tucked in with some loose V neck that let Lena glimpsed at her cleavage and a cream cardigan on top that was somehow just so Kara. Lena bit her lips as her heartbeat got faster. She couldn't believe that this wonderful woman was really into her, loved her. They're going to be a family. They already were to some extent, but the kids would definitely solidify this point.
"You look beautiful," Kara stopped once her eyes laid on Lena. "I mean you're always beautiful, but Rao Lena, you're gorgeous."
"You're not so bad yourself," Lena smiled back and stepped forward to greet Kara with a kiss. Her smile widened when she tasted the mint in Kara’s mouth, it seemed like Kara made sure to really prepare for the date. Oh, how she loved kissing Kara, she could probably do it forever. The heat spreading through her body almost made her forget about her hunger.
"Was that your stomach?" Kara pulled back.
Almost.
"A bit." Lena felt the blush creeping up her neck. Her stomach really had to ruin the moment, didn't it?
"Good thing it's almost ready!" Kara gave her a quick kiss and headed to the kitchen.

remembered
Tumblr media
pairing: alexia putellas x reader
notes: this is so short ugh i hate this tbh but oh well, little angsty, mentions of injuries
You remembered every single trophy, every single victory, every loss, every draw, every team, every teammate, as you sat on the countertop of your kitchen, watching your girlfriend hum along to the Rosalía song playing over your speaker system as she stirred the pasta you had been cooking for a while now. Alexia was still wearing the sweats she’d worn on the plane back from the most recent champions league match, one that you had, once again, sat out for. With an ACL injury over two years ago and not a single minute back on the pitch due to the never ending list of injuries added to your knee since, you had sat out for a lot of matches. Every one of your teammates knew that it took a toll on you, but more than anyone, Alexia knew. She had seen you the very night of your injury, although it had happened during an international break. She had seen you cry and thrash in her arms, she had seen you when you’d gone into surgery and when you’d come out of it, she had seen every step of your recovery, had been present for every moment another doctor shattered your heart, she had picked up every broken piece of it and attempted her best to hold you together when you couldn’t. Still, you felt nervous to tell her. Still, you didn’t know how she’d react- whether she’d understand.
Alexia bled for football in a way few did - it was her whole life.
“What’s on your mind?”, she hummed, lifting her gaze from the stove as she looked over at you fiddling with the hem of her sweatshirt that hung over your body.
You shook your head.
“Not now, Ale”, you sighed. You had a plan for this. You had laid out every step of telling her how you’d announce the end of your career soon. However, one thing you hadn’t taken into account were your emotions, and how easily your girlfriend of five years could read them.
“You’re scaring me, amor. What’s wrong?”, she asked, her tone filled with worry and her eyebrows furrowed as she let the wooden spoon simmer in the pot, instead taking a hold of your hands, immediately stopping your fidgeting.
“It has nothing to do with you, Ale. Promise”, you murmured, taking a deep breath in to avoid your tears from falling, knowing that your girlfriend would abandon the food within seconds and force the words out of your mouth before you suffocated on them. But you had prepared Alexia’s favorite pasta with so much effort, wanting to welcome her back with something to make up for your lack of presence with the team recently, that you didn’t know whether you could take it.
“I don’t know why, but that’s making me feel worse”, she chuckled, squeezing your hands as she tried to find your gaze.
“I’ll tell you when we eat, okay?”, you asked, wanting to find a common ground with her and immediately, she nodded. That seemed to calm you, as you breathed a sigh of relief. Alexia understood that it was a serious matter, yet she didn’t push you. Maybe she’d understand that your knee had simply had enough. Maybe she’d understand that you had had enough.
The cartilage in your knee had, at one point, been down to only twenty percent, and through two very painful surgeries, the doctors of your club had been sure you’d be able to be integrated into the sport again. Yet, you had sought another conversation with one of the doctors who’d stayed behind in Barcelona, in the hopes of having some clearance on whether you actually would, at one point, play football again. The man had been insistent that this was a conversation to be held while more people, most importantly, your girlfriend was present, yet you had insisted on answers and had been told the one thing no athlete ever wanted to hear.
It’s very unlikely. If I were you, I wouldn’t push for it.
“All done, no?”, Alexia asked as she lifted one of the noodles from the pot for you to taste, gently placing it in your open mouth. You hissed at the heat in your mouth, yet you nodded.
“Sí”, you agreed, hopping from the countertop as best as you could, to take the plates from the table you’d already sat when she’d texted you she was on her way home.
After plating up the food, you took Alexia’s phone, shushing the woman’s protests as you changed the music to Taylor Swift.
“My monologue, my music”, you smiled, filling your girlfriend’s glass with water as you sat down across from her, taking a deep breath.
“Mi amor, you’re scaring me”, Alexia huffed, but you shook your head no, poking at your food for a second.
“I’m going to retire, Ale”, you started, missing how Alexia’s mouth opened, then closed, then opened again as she searched for words. Your gaze was fixated on your plate, not knowing whether you could look at her right now, whether you could take her disappointment. You had been through so much in the past few months (really, it had been years), your girlfriend’s disappointment wasn’t something you were particularly searching for. Still, you knew you would have to accept it as she remained silent.
“I saw the doctor yesterday. He said if he was me, he wouldn’t push it.”
At that, you looked up at her, practically seeing her wires spin.
“Screw him, bebita. He’s not you, he’s not an athlete, he’s not-”
“Ale, I’m tired”, you interrupted her, a single tear rolling down your cheek. You knew she wouldn’t understand.
“I can’t do this anymore. It’s too much. Every time I go again, it ends in pain and more time out and- it’s too much. I’m done, Ale. I’m done fighting”, you said in one breath, dropping your fork onto your plate as you pushed your chair back.
“Wait, amor!”, she exclaimed, and made her way over to you within seconds. You didn’t know whether she was going to yell at you, silently disapprove or try to change your mind, but you didn’t have the energy to fight her embrace as she tightened her arms around you, letting your head fall into the crook of her neck as more tears escaped your eyes.
“It's okay, mi vida. You’re okay, I’ve got you.”
Well, you certainly hadn’t expected that- her words in your ear only encouraged you to cry harder, to finally let go of all the weight on your shoulders as you sobbed into her shoulder. You didn’t have any way to fight the tears anymore, completely letting your guard down as you cried and cried. It seemed like hours, and if you were any more stable emotionally, you might’ve cursed yourself for letting the food get calmed, but if your girlfriend minded, she didn’t say as she wordlessly led you to the couch after what seemed like hours.
“Are you sure, bebita? I just- I don’t want you to regret it”, Alexia sighed, your hands in hers as she gently stroked your thumb.
“Sí, Ale. I’m sure. It’s going to suck, but I can’t cling onto nothing anymore. I need something to do other than wait for a potential comeback”, you spoke, your voice hoarse from all of the crying.
“Have you thought about this? Like, for long enough to be sure?”
You nodded. “It’s all I’ve been thinking about since the follow up appointment of my surgery”, you huffed in an answer.
“Amor, why didn’t you tell me?”, Alexia asked, her eyebrows furrowed as she held your hands, still intertwined with hers, closer to her heart. You could feel it beat through her hoodie.
“I didn’t think you would understand”, you mumbled, suddenly insecure about what you had been so confident in before. Alexia was one of the most empathetic, most understanding people you’d ever met- and although it had taken her a while to get the gist of your knee problems, and hours to research every surgery in detail, you doubted yourself now- if anyone understood the toll this has taken on you, it’d be the person who had been there for you through it all.
“Mi vida, I don’t know what it’s like, for you. But I’ve seen you in pain for such a long time. I just want you to be happy, and I thought that you would be happy once you were back on the pitch. That’s why I pushed you. But if that’s not what you want, I understand. After everything that you’ve been through, I will respect whatever you want to do. And if you don’t want to play anymore, we’ll figure something else out”, she spoke, her voice firm yet gentle at the same time. You couldn’t help but lean into her at her words, the weight being lifted off your chest at once.
“Thank you, Ale. Thank you so, so much”, you whispered into her shoulder, letting her hug you once more.
“Of course, bebita. I’ll always have your back. You’ve had an amazing career, and you’ll be remembered for that, forever. No matter what you do next, I know it’ll be great.”
After a short amount of contentment, Alexia spoke again.
“Although, you might give Jana and Bruna a heart attack”, she laughed.
“I know. I don’t know how the team will take it, in general”, you gave back. This was another thing that had been cursing your mind for a while now. After a great time with Lyon, you had finally come to Barcelona three years ago, wanting nothing more than to finally close the distance between you and Alexia. With that, however, you had found a new family, and people who meant more to you than you could ever explain. Despite your foreignness, and your teammates from the US constantly making fun of you whenever they could find a video of you attempting to speak Spanish, this group of women had taken you in and transformed this city into what you hoped to be your forever home. Even when for the better part of your stay in Barcelona, you had been sidelined, on the injury bench or in an operating room.
“Well, it’s not like you’ll be gone, no? You’ll stay here, with Barça.”
“Sí, I will. But I won’t be at training, won’t be at every match. It will be different”, you huffed. You had no clue what you would do after your career- an after-football never having existed in your mind, but you knew that you wanted it to have something to do with the sport.
“They'll still support you. They all love you, especially the younger ones. They look up to you so much, mi vida. It will be okay.”
You believed Alexia. Because if your girlfriend was anything other than caring, gentle, and empathetic, she was also honest. If she said it would be okay, it would be okay. Despite the fact that you had no idea what you were going to do with your life, you knew that as long as you had Alexia, it would be okay.

Thinking about Oscar buying his gf flowers for the first time (holding back tears)
-🌷(can i possibly be🌷anon?)
he would be determined. thank you for requesting and of course you can be 🌷 anon!
"Can I help you find anything?" the sales assistant asks kindly. She's got an amused smile on her face at the sight of the young man who appears overwhelmed at the selection of flowers laid in front of him. He'd considered leaving - there was too much variety, too many different options - but when he had laid eyes on the small floral store earlier he had become determined to buy a bouquet for you. He'd never bought you flowers before, never bought anyone flowers before. But you'd been together for a few months by now and he wanted to surprise you.
"Uh, yeah, maybe." He replies. "I wanna buy flowers for my girl- but which am I supposed to get her? How do I know what she'll like?" He rambles.
The woman only smiles at his nervous excitement, clearing off her table.
Oscar spends nearly half an hour listening intently to her explanations, taking in all the information as carefully as if he was hearing about the team's new car. He takes notes on his phone, making sure to write down the meanings of the flowers he chooses with her guidance.
He chews his lip lightly as she wraps the bouquet of hydrangeas, zinnias and baby's breath in translucent paper, tying a shiny white ribbon around too.
"Did you want to add a card too?" she asks, offering him a small pink card and a pen. Oscar thanks her, taking the pen and filling in both your name and his in the respective 'to' and 'from' spaces. His mind blanks as he tries to think of a message to add. How could he possibly find the words to explain how much you've become to him in a short period of time? He draws a shaky heart instead, hoping it will be enough to explain how he feels. The shop assistant loops the card onto the ribbon, tying it in a neat bow and handing the bouquet to Oscar who thanks her profusely for all her help.
"Don't be so nervous," she reassures him. "She'll love it, because you chose them for her."
"Hi baby," he calls, pushing the front door behind him. You'd stayed over at his apartment the night before and at his delight you'd opted to stay there all day too, promising you'd still be waiting once he got home from work. Despite it being early on in your relationship the thought of you usually being there when he got home (or vice versa) made his heart skip a beat.
"Kitchen!" you call, stirring a pot of pasta. He follows the sound of your voice.
"Hi," you greet him happily, turning the stove down and turning to give him a kiss. You stop short seeing what he's holding.
"Uh, these are for you." He says bluntly, holding them out. You can't hide the grin stretching across your features as you take it from him, flipping over the card and bringing the flowers close to your face.
"Thank you Oz," you say almost shyly. "What's the occasion?" You're already hunting in Oscar's cupboards for something vaguely vase-shaped. Unsurprisingly he has nothing of the sort so you settle for a clear Camelbak water bottle, filling it and placing the flowers inside.
"I don't need an occasion to get flowers for my best girl." He says, reaching one hand behind your head to press a sweet kiss to your mouth. You kiss him back happily.
"You like them?" He asks between pecks to your forehead.
"Yeah," you nuzzle into his chest and he's happy to just hold you in the middle of the kitchen. "I love them, 'cause they're from you."
🌼Hydrangea - gratitude
🌼Zinnia - constancy
🌼Baby's breath - everlasting love

If ya taking requests rn still?✨😇😊💖
Ben Drowned general + NSFW hcs
A/N: yes!! absolutely. i love getting to talk about how the pastas do their pastaing in my mind. i have so many headcanons for everyone that im excited to share!! also sorry i forgot to include the gamer gf part but i don't think it would change a lot of what i wrote!!
btw sorry for fucking dying i have been busy 😭😭 but no one worry i will still continue to work on requests!! if anyone has any marble hornets stuff they wanna request i will zoom you to the front of the queue so fucking quick. anyways enough of me yapping.
cw: 18+ nsfw, toxic relationships, crying kink,
Tumblr media Tumblr media
GENERAL
ben is mentally and physically 22, but he can be quite emotionally immature at times. when he died he never stopped growing and maturing, his soul was just stuck in limbo. think like the worst waiting room ever.
he's surprisingly tall, standing at about 5'9. he's lanky but not bone thin. could easily get pretty far in a fight without his ghost powers.
the link costume only appears when he’s in his ghost form. so for example, when he’s messing with someone on their computer he’ll appear as the canon BEN we’re most familiar with. when he’s just chilling in his physical body, he mostly wears beat up hoodies and sweatpants.
contrary to popular belief, ben's not the hardcore gamer everyone thinks he is. sure, he'll play some overwatch or whatever when he's bored but he honestly just prefers to watch tv and browse the internet. understandably REFUSES to play any zelda games. if you were trapped in a video game for decades would you ever wanna touch it again? exactly.
ben loves to draw little comics and troll (see: horrifically traumatize) people online. god forbid you get into twitter beef with this man because he will crawl through your monitor at 3am and leave you with a crippling fear of technology. dude thinks it's absolutely hilarious. a true knee slapper.
lowkey has a sugar addiction. will slam down 4 cans of pepsi in one sitting. he's very lucky that he's basically a ghost because the kidney stones would be plentiful.
ROMANTIC
you know that guy with the blown out speakers in his car, lives off of energy drinks and burnt blue razz ice elfbars, swears aphex twin is the modern mozart and works on the grill at your local wendy’s? yeah thats ben. or at least would be him if he was still human.
“why would you need a chair, my lap is literally right here babe.”
would absolutely wear your skin if given the opportunity. not in a weird way. he’s just EXTREMELY touchy.
he needs someone who is significantly more organized and motivated than him. he can go almost a week without showering and it should honestly be considered biological warfare when he tries to smother you with affection during these episodes.
after awhile of you guys dating he LOVES the idea of y’all showering together. he has a fear of water and while showers aren’t too much of a trigger, your presence helps ease his anxiety.
favorite pet names: bro, dude, dawg, babe, bitch (non derogatory)
not really a romantic but he tries his best. a perfect date for him is just getting some takeout, watching youtube, talking about stupid shit and play fighting. if you want something more traditional or extravagant then he’ll oblige to make you happy but those types of dates make him feel quite suffocated and nervous. try to save those for special occasions.
now let’s talk about his problems because just like the other creeps he is ANGSTY.
he’s probably the most emotionally stable and healthiest of the group but he definitely still has his toxic traits, after all this man is a ghost that mentally tortures and kills his victims through manipulation.
ben would never ever get physical with his partner no matter how enraged he is but he absolutely is the type to do some mental damage when he gets carried away. ben drowned? more like ben gaslighted.
the type to say some shit that would keep you up for years and then kiss you the next morning like the argument never happened. he finds it easier to ignore problems than to actively talk and fix them. you’re gonna have to teach him some important communication skills or else you’ll grow to resent him after all the bottled up rage.
a bit too brutally honest and blunt for his own good so if you have thin skin the relationship would fall apart pretty quickly. he wants someone who can drag him twice as hard as he dragged you. bonus points if your insults are consistently funny as hell.
please watch anime with him and discuss it. he would propose on the spot, especially if you play with his hair.
pro player tip: if you want him to clean his disgusting room, help him and make it fun! he just needs a little push and motivation at times. and being around you makes him want to get his shit together.
big fan of late night make-out sessions. i’m talking like 45 minutes straight of just slobbering on each other’s faces with tongues down throats. if you don’t want his hands running over every inch of your body then you’ll probably have to chain him to the wall.
NSFW
okay. so he’s a little inexperienced with his hands. he’s just a slow learner. be vocal with him about what you like!!
ben's about 7inches and slightly skinnier than average but he will have you seeing stars in record time. the dick game is no joke. he tends to go fast and deep most times.
i can see him being a switch in the idgaf-as-long-as-i’m-fucking way. dude will go with the flow and will try mostly anything.
definitely one of the least aggressive pastas during sex. he has sadistic tendencies but he’s more of a edge/overstimulate you until you cry versus a beat the shit out of you and rip hair out of your scalp type. he’s pretty vanilla given his occupation.
despite his love of roasting the fuck out of you on a daily basis, the only words that come out of this man’s mouth is heavenly praise. he looks at you like you’re the most gorgeous being on the planet and he’ll let you know it.
he loves to whisper praises into your ear while you ride him.
he's more of a receiver than a giver when it comes to oral. he'll absolutely spend hours between your legs if given the chance but nothing beats the sight of you on your knees and teary eyed with his length in your mouth.
he can be a bit of a head pusher but just let him face-fuck you every now and then, hearing his loud moans will be worth it.
did i mention how much of a crying kink this man has? you guys could be on round three and if he stares at your teary eyed fucked-out face for longer than 10 seconds he'll immediately get hard again. you'll have to beg him to give your poor body a break.
he's also into choking but only if he's the one doing it. if you try to restrict his breathing he'll panic and the mood would get ruined.

Hi! I am absolutely in love with your writing! The way you portray our boys is just *chefs kiss*
Anywho, I was wondering if I could request poly!marauders x plus size reader? Maybe she is very confident until somebody picks on her and she starts becoming obsessed with dieting and stuff. (I'm struggling a lot with that rn) just a bunch of worry and comfort from our boys.
If you don't feel comfortable writing this or just the prompt I gave it's okay. Ily!♡
Hi, thanks for requesting my love! I'm really sorry you're struggling right now, I know how hard it can be and hope you're doing your best to take good care of yourself. You're beautiful just as you are <33
cw: size insecurity, behavior that hints at disordered eating
poly!marauders x plus size!reader ♡ 1.2k words
The worst part is, you know they weren’t even really trying to insult you.
You smiled as best you could, said your thanks politely, and moved on. Moved on outwardly, that is. Inside, the words play over and over in your head, like a song on the radio that gets worse each time you listen to it. It wasn’t that they were vicious, or particularly clever, or even wrong. It’s just, you’re not used to people commenting on your body like that.
You know you’re not skinny. So does everyone else. Neither of you typically feel the need to confer about it. Every now and again, some cruel busybody will say something, but that’s fairly easy to brush off. They’re insecure about their own looks, they have nothing better to do than fixate on strangers’ appearances, they’ve probably been on diet pills since they were twelve. You wish them well and mostly forget about it. But what’s worse is when someone comes to you with good intentions. The idea of being perceived as pitiful or wrong—really, having your physical form perceived at all—by someone who seems to want the best for you is what really hurts. That’s what makes you want to hide, to shrink yourself down until they can’t see you anymore. To become the invisible status quo.
It’s why, over the last few days, anything skintight or remotely showy has been relegated to the back of your closet in favor of things that hide your figure. Why you’ve stopped drawing attention to yourself with colorful makeup and instead started focusing on your health. Well, your health as it presents itself externally.
“Anyone else fancy a dessert?” Sirius muses as you sit reading on the couch, Remus reading the next book in the series beside you.
“Um, no,” James says, holding up a hand of cards from the game he and Sirius have been playing, “you only want to go so you don’t have to stick around and lose.”
“Whatever my other, subconscious motives may be,” Sirius says guilelessly, “I really feel like something chocolate. Don’t you, Moons?”
That’s always a safe bet. Remus looks up from his book, intrigued. “I could go for some chocolate.”
Sirius grins. “What about you, gorgeous?”
That’s usually a safe bet too. But you shouldn’t. “Thanks, but I’m still full from dinner.”
Sirius looks cheated, and Remus cocks his head at you. “Really? Didn’t seem like you ate much.” He’s not wrong. Remus had made the most incredible feta pasta, it was borderline heartbreaking to leave any on your plate. But you’re trying to practice restraint, and thankfully, James had happily taken care of your leftovers for you. “Did you have a late lunch or something?”
“Mhm.”
James looks up, eyebrows furrow bemusedly behind his glasses. “No you didn’t, angel. You said you didn’t feel like lunch after we had breakfast together, remember?”
“Oh.” You nod. So what? You’d had a late breakfast, and a decently sized dinner, and why do you really need more than two meals anyway? Who made that rule? You’re a bit hungry, but your body just needs time to adjust to your new routine. It’s used to overindulging. And nothing about today means you deserve dessert. “Right.”
Sirius wraps his fingers delicately around your ankle, smoothing a path up your shin with his palm. “Darling,” he says, and he looks distracted as he runs his fingers over the old scars on your knee, but you know him well enough to recognize when he’s keyed in, “did you eat anything today, other than breakfast and that little bit of dinner? Any snacks or anything?”
You can’t help the little rush of pride that goes through you. “No.”
Sirius doesn’t look proud. In fact, he’s frowning, as are Remus and James. You change tactics. “I’m not really hungry, though.”
“No?” Sirius' voice is unsettlingly gentle. “Why don’t you want to have dessert tonight, pretty girl?”
“Because,” you say, beginning to feel defensive (though you’re not sure of what), “I don’t need it.”
“It’s not about need, though,” James says, and why is it beginning to feel like you’re in an argument? “It’s about what you want. Do you want a little something sweet?”
“I…” Yes. The answer is yes, but do you want it more than you want to feel good about yourself? “I think what I want more is to prove to myself that I can go without it.”
Remus’ scars shift as his face scrunches in concern. “Dove,” he says, and you can’t decide if his tone is more reprimand or pity. You don’t like either option. “Where is this coming from?”
“I’m just…I’m trying something new,” you decide. “I want to lose a little weight, okay? Nothing crazy.”
“But why?” James sets down his cards, looking completely befuddled. “Angel, you’re gorgeous. You can do whatever you want, but we love you just like you are.”
“And,” Sirius adds before you can reply, “we love you most when you’re happy. I sort of thought,” he says, lowering his voice like he’s telling you a secret, “that our late-night treat runs made you happy. No?”
“They do.” You pull your legs up onto the couch, away from Sirius’ touch. “I just…I think it would make me happy to be a more normal size, too.”
Remus looks gutted. “Honey, you…it’s your body, and you should do whatever feels right for you to be healthy, but…we love you like this,” he insists, ardent. “You’re beautiful, I mean it, and I hate the idea that you might want to change for…well, for anyone other than yourself.”
You hesitate. You’re not actually sure who you’re doing this for. When had you become one of the people who want for you to be smaller so desperately? “You seriously don’t think I would look better if I were thinner?” You’ve never been one to put much stock into what any men think of your appearance, so you feel silly for asking, but you’re in a vulnerable state. And really, don’t all guys want a girl that looks like the love interests in the movies you all grew up with?
James looks you in the eye, letting you see the earnestness in his as he says, “You’re absolutely lovely, right here, right now. We wouldn’t change a thing.”
Your answering smile is oddly watery. Remus makes an awfully lovely cooing sound, leaning over to wrap an arm around your waist and paying no mind to the chub there as he pulls you into his side. “Don’t be upset, darling. You know what I bet will cheer you up?” He smiles as you look up at him questioningly, kissing between your brows. “Some chocolate. How would you feel about that?”
You let out a quiet little laugh. “Pretty good.”
“Yes!” Sirius pumps his fist in the air, already abandoning his cards and standing up. “I knew you’d come through, gorgeous. Now I think the more pressing question is, do we want chocolate pastries or chocolate ice cream?”
“Ice cream, obviously,” James says. “Before it gets so cold out we don’t feel like it.”
“Not all of us suffer from weather constraints,” Sirius argues. “I vote pastry.”
“Why would you bring ice cream up if you didn’t want it? Think long and hard, Pads. Are you going to feel like a frozen dessert when you need three layers to go outside in a few weeks?”
Remus rolls his eyes at you as you follow them out the door, letting your boys continue their bickering all the way to the store.

The night before you were expected – along with the rest of your family – at your grandparents’ Tahoe cabin, you called up your childhood best friend to help you drown your sorrows at the Hard Deck. The air in the bar was dense with a steady throb of ‘80s music and the slur of dozens of drunken conversations. There were so many people that, even though you immediately shed your jacket, a bead of sweat rolled down your back before you even reached the bar. Still, the Hard Deck was like a second home to you, and its chaos enveloped you with all the warmth of a hug from a friend who was a little more drunk than they’d admit.
Nat was already at the bar. She had a beer in one hand, another waiting for you in front of the empty barstool next to her. You smiled. She must have put up quite a fight to keep that seat for you on such a busy night.
You hopped up on the barstool and snagged your beer, relishing in its coolness more than its taste. How long until Nat gave up on trying to get you to like IPAs? At least this one was potable, unlike the last one she tried to get you to drink.
“You’re late,” she said.
“Sorry, I was packing.” You had to yell over the clash of noise between you. “Do you know how hard it is to pack winter clothes? I have, like, three suitcases. Full.”
Nat laughed. “Excited much?”
You slammed your bottle of beer down on the counter like an inebriated judge making a ruling. “I’m actually not going to go.”
“To your grandparents’ 60th anniversary?” Nat arched her brows.
“Yes. Think about it.” You sat up straighter. “I’m alone with my family in the mountains. I’m the only grandchild not in a relationship. We’re all there to celebrate love. My grandma tells me fourteen times that she had two kids by my age. Auntie Marnie will get wine drunk and ask why I’m not dating anyone when I’m such a catch. All the cousins will bring their partners and they’ll hold hands and make googly eyes at each other and kiss each other in the kitchen. Everyone will be so in love, and I’ll stick out like a sore thumb. And I can’t even bring you with me because you’re working. Ugh, this is going to suck.”
“I’m sure it won’t be that bad.” Nat took a swig of her beer.
“Didn’t I tell you about Sabrine’s wedding?” You knew you had. Your cousin’s wedding was sweet and intimate, and of course you were happy for her and Matt. But there were moments that sent you teetering toward something akin to an existential crisis. And the constant comments from your aunts, the snide remarks from your brother, and the oppressive sense of love in the air definitely did not help. Slightly buzzed in your aunt’s backyard the night before the ceremony, watching everyone declare their love in a thousand small ways (an easy brush of the hands, a fork of pasta held up like an offering, a future planned by spoken word), you couldn’t help but draw up your feet and stare at the stars like they had an answer for you.
Nat shrugged this off. “Then bring a date. There’s plenty of eligible bachelors in this bar right now.”
As if her words were a spell, a seaman tapped on her shoulder. Nat was in civilian clothes, so her high rank wasn’t visible to ward him off like on most other nights. She snapped around. Her teeth must have been barred because she sent him skittering into the crowd in record time.
“Oh yeah,” you sipped your drink, “plenty of eligible bachelors.”
“Shut up. I’m not the one leaving on a flight tomorrow morning, desperately lonely, heading for a fate as terrible as celebrating love.”
“Who’s celebrating love?” Jake appeared like a demon summoned straight from hell.
When Nat first introduced you to the Daggers, they had all been intimidating. But only Hangman had you on edge. You’d softened up to the guy in the years since, but you didn’t need him knowing about how “desperately lonely” you were. In fact, there was only one man in the world who you wanted to see less than Jake in that moment. And if Jake was there, it was only a matter of time before he was, too.
Nat tipped her beer toward you. “She doesn’t want to be the only single person at her grandparents’ 60th wedding anniversary this weekend.”
God. There he was. Popped up right as you expected – and dreaded. His loud Hawaiin shirt poorly concealed his heavily muscled arms. His aviators hung off his undershirt, and they rattled against his chest as he laughed at your predicament. You couldn’t even look at his face.
“I just know my family’s going to give me a hard time,” you said in panicked defense. “Even if they don’t mean to.”
Bradley draped an arm over your shoulder. He’d done it so countless times in knowing you, like it never fazed him. It probably didn’t. He did it to Hangman and Phoenix and Bob, too. However, you had never gotten used to the feel of his skin against your own. Your face got hot, and you hoped he couldn’t feel the sweat spreading under your shirt
He brought his mouth close to your ear to ensure you heard him over the ruckus of the bar. “Whatever your family says about you, just know that they’re right.”
You wriggled out from under his arm, and he doubled over laughing. So did Hangman and Phoenix.
“Don’t let him get under your skin,” Nat said after collecting herself.
You rolled your eyes. He was already under your skin. Had been from the moment you first laid eyes on him. Spread like an itch that was always there, but one you could never scratch.
“C’mon, let’s play some pool.” Jake vanished into the crowd, knowing the three of you would follow.
You had never been so thankful to be around the pool table, even though some nights you dreaded it. Every one of the Daggers could outplay you in pool; you always felt bad for whoever was unlucky enough to be your partner. And normally, you felt a little awkward when the conversation turned to work. Fighter jets and naval bureaucracy were not things you were well versed in, but that night, you were grateful for the work conversation to overshadow the conversation about your lack of a love life.
Unfortunately, when you and Nat were down three-nothing, somehow your love life took center stage again.
Jake sank the cue ball – such a rare occurrence the four of you stood still against the wave of bar patrons for a solid five seconds before you and Nat cheered.
“Nice going, Seresin.” Nat patted you on the shoulder. “Set her up real nice.”
Jake scoffed.
Bradley winked at you as you set the cue ball on the table. He mouthed good luck, and you – along with your chances of winning – were a goner.
You had a perfect opportunity to sink the ruby red 7 ball. You lined up your shot, pulled back on your cue stick, took a shallow breath – that did not calm your nerves – and completely missed. The cue ball jumped around the table, smacking into solids and stripes alike. Everyone leaned in as it collided with the 8 ball, sending it hurtling toward the corner. By some small miracle, it missed the pocket by a breath. Both the 8 and cue balls rolled to an unceremonious stop.
“Well, that could have been worse.” Nat sounded like she was trying to reassure herself.
“Jesus,” Jake said. “No need to worry about your boy troubles if this is how you play pool after two years of practice with the best.”
Your cheeks warmed. Usually, you could at least hold your own. Your partner would have to do a lot of heavy lifting, but they could count on you to sink a few balls. At the very least, they could count on you not to do whatever the hell that just was. You could feel everyone staring, Jake’s mishap long forgotten. You could especially feel Bradley’s gaze on you. It was hotter in the bar than when you first arrived. You crossed your arms over your chest, rubbing a thumb against the sticky skin of your upper arm.
“Don’t you think she should just bring a date to the anniversary?” Nat asked the two other aviators as Bradley lined up his shot. “That would keep her family off her back.”
You dug your nails into your skin to keep from lunging at her over the pool table.
Hangman grinned, his teeth flashing against the neon lights. “Sure. Any luck with those dating apps?”
“Ha ha,” you said. “It’s no use. Besides the fact that they suck ass, my plane leaves at 8:30 tomorrow morning.”
Bradley sank two stripes in one shot. Before taking another, he gestured around the bar. “And these fine men don’t meet your standards? They are members of the American Armed Forces, after all.”
“I’m not taking a stranger on my grandparent’s 60th anniversary trip, thank you.”
Bradley shrugged. He missed the 15 ball.
Nat leaned over to take her shot. She looked up at the boys, flashed a smile at you, then said, “What if she took one of the Dagger boys?”
Your hands flew to the edge of the pool table for support, otherwise, you might have gone down.
“What, should she take Bob?” Jake’s voice was laced with alcohol and utter delight in your misery. “He’d have a heart attack trying to keep up a ruse like that.”
Jake and Bradley shared a good laugh, only to be quieted when Nat went on a run and sank four solids before finally missing.
She straightened and used her cue stick to point at them. “Y’know, I was kind thinking about one of you two.”
Your blood just about froze solid in your veins. What the hell was Nat thinking? You’d rather die than spend a long weekend at Jake’s side – you just couldn’t bear a constant barrage of snarky comments and showboating. And you’d actually rather die than have Bradley at your side, touching you in his casual way, his shit-eating grin dawning under his mustache, and god forbid his winking.
Jake smirked. “Surely there are easier ways to ask us out.”
“Yeah, we don’t bite.” Bradley laughed. “Before I consider the offer, how nice is this cabin?”
You rolled your eyes. “Yeah, I’m dying to go out with the both of you. How could you see right through me?”
You prayed that no one could see right through you. Especially as your heart rate quickened when Bradley’s gaze settled on you, clouded with thought.
“Assholes,” Nat grumbled as Jake sank the rest of the stripes and the 8 ball in three easy shots. You two were down four-nothing.
Your night of drinking with Nat was ruined. You half-hoped Bob would pop up, offer to be your date, and whisk you away for a respectful and very platonic weekend. Your heart sank like the 8 ball when you remembered he was deployed for three months somewhere in the Indian Ocean.
Reality settled in and you figured you might as well get a good night’s sleep before braving the cold mountains and your family.
“I think I’m gonna head home.” You hugged Nat. “Sorry for being a shitty pool partner.”
“I wouldn’t expect any less of you.” She dropped her voice and whispered in your ear. “Sorry for pimping you out like that.”
You shook your head. As much as you had wanted the ground to swallow you, you appreciated her efforts to make your weekend less miserable. Even if she was a little out of line.
You said goodbye to the boys, gathered your purse and your jacket, and left. The noise of the bar melted into the cool, quiet night. You pulled out your phone and ordered yourself an Uber. A slight breeze chased away the sheen of sweat on your skin, and you allowed yourself a moment’s respite under the moonlight.
“Hey.”
You spun around. Bradley was standing there, his hands in his pockets.
“Hey.” Your voice was a little too loud. You’d been yelling all night over the noise of the bar, after all. “Did I forget something?”
“No. I just wanted to say sorry.” He smiled. “For teasing you about the whole no date thing.”
“Oh. Thanks, I guess.” Goosebumps raised on your arms.
“Y’know, I’ve never been to Tahoe.”
“Oh really?” You started to struggle on your jacket to fight the chill. Bradley held a hand out, and you gave him your purse so you could slip your jacket on easier. “Thanks. You’ve never been to Tahoe?”
“Nope.” He handed your purse back.
“Thanks,” you said again. “That’s a bummer. It’s beautiful, especially at this time of the year. A late snowstorm just rolled through, it should be a winter wonderland up there.”
“Well,” he took a step closer to you. “I was thinking. I’ve never been to Tahoe, you still need a date, I enjoy your company…”
You swallowed hard. Were you dreaming? “Bradley, my flight leaves early tomorrow.”
“So? I’ve got leave. I’m used to early mornings.” His smile was nearly blinding in the full moonlight.
“Did Nat put you up to this?” You tried to catch a glance of her through the large windows, but the Hard Deck was just too packed.
“A little. But to be honest, I didn’t need a lot of convincing. I think it could be fun.”
You fiddled with a button of your jacket, unable to look at him. Before you could think of an excuse to reject his offer, you blurted, “Pick me up from my place?”
“Of course. That’s what a good boyfriend does.” He pulled you in for a quick hug. A completely platonic, pat-on the back, ends-quick-as-it-started type hug. So why did your heart almost stop?
“I’ll book your ticket,” you said over the jackhammering beat of your heart. “You don’t have to worry about anything. Just be at my apartment at 6:00.”
Your Uber pulled up to the curb.
“I’ve gotta go.” You edged toward the car. “But, just – thank you so much. I know this is weird, but I really appreciate it.”
He winked. “Anytime.”
As you settled in the back of the Toyota Camry, you took a deep breath. What the hell did you just get yourself into?

You want me so bad it makes you look stupid
This is a date, Marisol realises with sudden, dawning clarity. Does Eddie know this is a date? “Well, it’s about time,” Eddie tells Buck and Tommy. “Working out how to hang out with you both was getting exhausting. Hey, why don’t we pull another table over?” Oh god, Eddie doesn’t know this is a date. - AKA, the one where Eddie (unknowingly) wants Buck so bad that it makes him act stupid in a restaurant.
Teaming back up with @an-optimist-prime again because we're hilarious.
It starts like this.
Christopher is at a sleepover. Eddie finally has a night off and for once, has no other plans to hang out with Buck or Tommy or anyone else for that matter, and it’s been so long since it was just the two of them.
Alone. They’ve been dating for four months now, and yet it feels like she barely knows him.
So, Marisol suggests dinner and Eddie suggests the restaurant.
“Buck recommended this place a while back,” Eddie explains when they’re in the car, and Marisol looks out her window and rolls her eyes because of course he did. “It’s just like pizza and pasta, but apparently the food’s pretty good and he’s been wanting to try it out.”
“Uh huh.” Nodding along, Marisol decides then and there not to set her expectations too high. Not that it matters, not really. She cares more about finally finding the time for a date night more than the restaurant itself. She’d be happy with burgers if it meant actually spending some quality time with her boyfriend.
So she’s pleasantly surprised when they step into the restaurant, the bells above the door jingling brightly to announce their arrival.
The lighting is soft and warm, the space mostly lit by ropes of fairy lights and flickering tea candles on the tables.
It’s pretty romantic.
The soft hum of conversation swirls around them as Marisol laces her fingers with Eddie’s and they follow one of the wait staff through the dining room and over to their table.
She stumbles, almost tripping as Eddie suddenly tugs her off to the side.
“Buck!’ He calls out, his voice so loud and excited it echoes above the general buzz, drawing the attention of the diners around them. “You two guys are here together?”
He doesn’t wait for a response, closing the gap between them.
“Marisol, you remember Buck, right?”
She almost laughs, like Eddie doesn’t mention his best friend at least once a day, but before she can mention this she catches Buck’s eye and the deer-in-the-headlights stare he’s giving them.
Huh.
“What are the chances?” Eddie grins. “I mean, Buck was just telling me about this place the other week, but I didn’t expect to actually run into you. And definitely not together.” He laughs, casually leaning against Buck’s chair, oblivious to the way his friend has gone rigid beside him. “So what, you guys are finally friends now?”
“We, uh—”
Marisol watches as Buck swallows, his eyes darting back to look at Tommy.
”Yeah, I guess you could say that.” Tommy’s mouth twitches like he’s trying not to laugh as he meets Buck’s gaze, and—
Oh.
Oh.
Cosy restaurant.
Soft mood lighting.
It doesn’t take a genius to put two and two together.
This is a date, Marisol realises with sudden, dawning clarity. Does Eddie know this is a date?
“Well, it’s about time,” Eddie tells them. “Working out how to hang out with you both was getting exhausting. Hey, why don’t we pull another table over?”
Oh god, Eddie doesn’t know this is a date.
“Eddie,” Marisol says, tugging on his arm. “Maybe we should go find our own table? Just the two of us.”
“What? You guys don’t mind us joining do you?” Eddie asks, and Marisol resists the urge to facepalm. It could not be more obvious that they’re interrupting something. Buck still hasn’t regained any colour in his face, that weird red birthmark by his eye standing out.
Like a stop sign.
Or a traffic light.
That Eddie just casually ploughs through. 3 dead and 47 injured.
Marisol meets Buck’s gaze, wondering if she can communicate ‘I’m so sorry’ in Morse code but all she remembers from middle school is SOS, which still feels appropriate in this situation.
There are now two tables pushed together, and any coded message is lost in the dance of shuffling seats so Buck and Tommy can sit on one side with Marisol and Eddie on the other.
Marisol genuinely does not understand how Eddie cannot see that this is a date. Both men are dressed up, sitting together at a rather fancy and romantic restaurant. She’s not just embarrassed for Buck and Tommy, but also just a little frustrated for herself. All she wants is just one night. Just one night, alone, with the man who is supposed to be her boyfriend. But, once again, that’s apparently not on the cards.
Silence sits heavy over the table as they all regard each other.
“So—” Marisol offers, to break the tension. “How did you two meet?”
“W-work.” Buck stammers.
Marisol nods for him to continue and nothing comes. After a beat, Tommy rescues them with, “we stole a helicopter together, and then flew it into a hurricane.”
”What’s this we?” Eddie cuts in, amused. “Technically you stole the helicopter. Buck and I were just along for the ride.”
Tommy shrugs, his gaze sliding over to Buck. “What can I say? I’m all about grand gestures. “ His hand slips beneath the table. “Especially when I’m trying to get someone’s attention.”
Buck goes red, spluttering into his beer.
“Jesus, Buck.” Chuckling, Eddie passes over a napkin. “What is it with you and choking at restaurants?”
“I’m not—“
”I swear, I can’t take you anywhere,” Eddie teases, handing over more napkins to mop up the mess. “You end up wearing more than you eat.”
”Fuck off,” Buck mutters, but he’s smiling now, staring down at the table.
“S0–“ Marisol cuts in over them. “Helicopters. That’s uh— that’s cute.”
“What’s cute about stealing a helicopter?” Eddie asks, genuinely confused by her comment.
“You know, it’s just— never mind,” she trails off to take a long sip of her table water.
At this point she’s just praying for the ground to open up beneath them. An earthquake or some other natural disaster to take her out of this situation. She just cannot understand how Eddie can be this oblivious.
“So, what other hang-outs have I not been invited to?” Eddie asks, his tone teasing as he leans forward in his seat.
”Just this one,” Tommy says, and there’s a record scratch in Marisol’s head.
Because this…
This is a first date.
They’re on a first date.
Is death by secondhand embarrassment a thing, because she’s pretty sure she’s dying right now.
And here’s the thing. She likes Eddie, she really does, but even she’s starting to re-think her long-term compatibility with someone who is either this clueless or this intentionally obtuse.
“But I’m hoping Evan will want to do this again sometime,” Tommy says, leaning back to sling an arm around Buck’s shoulders. “But next time, I suggest the restaurant.”
Marisol’s lost for a second, because who’s Evan, before realising that Eddie’s frozen beside her.
She turns, catching the exact moment that Eddie realises what’s happening, and what he’s done; that he’s crashed their date.
A series of emotions that she can’t quite parse wash over his face, his expression finally settling into shocked disbelief.
Finally he gets it, she thinks, exasperated. And it’s only taken 13 agonising minutes. At least they haven’t ordered yet.
Eddie’s mouth opens, then shuts, then he says, “You’re not gay.”
Real smooth Eddie, Marisol thinks, resisting the urge to hide her face in her hands.
“I’m bisexual,” Buck says, his voice almost a whisper. “I think? Maybe? I’m not actually sure yet.”
“Right.” Eddie nods, like he’s not quite sure what to do with this information. “I, uh—“ he stands suddenly, knocking into the table in his haste. “We should go. I’m sorry for— we didn’t mean to interrupt.”
“Hey, it’s fine,” Tommy starts. “We still on for Muay Thai on Thursday?”
Eddie stares at him. “I uh— “ he starts, before bolting from the restaurant.
Marisol stands. “I’m so sorry,” she says, glancing back towards the doors as Eddie disappears through them. “I’ll talk to him. I, uh— I hope you have a nice night.”
Neither of them say anything until they’re in the car.
Eddie’s gripping the steering wheel, his knuckles white, but he makes no move to start the engine.
Minutes pass in dead silence.
“Are you okay, Eddie?” Marisol shifts, turning in her seat to watch him. “You know, I completely understand,” she says when he still doesn’t respond. “It must have been a bit of a shock to see your two best friends dating each other.”
“I don’t get it,” Eddie murmurs. “Why didn’t he tell me? He’s my best friend. I thought— I tell him everything and he couldn’t— I don’t even know how long this has been going on for.”
Marisol nods, but says nothing. Clearly this is something Eddie needs to get off his chest.
”Like, has this been going on the whole time? I can’t— they hated each other, or— I thought they did. But he should have told me. Buck always tells me when he’s seeing someone.”
Eddie’s hands tighten on the wheel again, the leather creaking beneath his fingers.
”And why wouldn’t he tell me he’s into guys? He’s never said anything. Not that that’s a problem—”
”Of course not,” Marisol reassures him, reaching over to lay a hand on his arm.
“—because he’s my best friend, and I’ll love him no matter what—“
Huh?
“—but because we tell each other everything! We trust each other! I mean, I thought he trusted me. Did I do something? God, I was such an idiot in there. He probably thinks I’m homophobic—“
“Yeah, a little,” Marisol admits gently, giving his arm a pat.
He drops his hands from the steering wheel, his shoulders slumping. ”God, I’m the worst friend ever. To Buck and Tommy.” He straightens suddenly, turning to face her. “But also, like, Tommy?” He asks. “I mean, I like the guy, but Tommy? Sure, he’s better than Taylor, but literally anyone is better than her.”
“Uh,” Marisol doesn’t know how to respond to that. She honestly cannot figure out why Eddie is getting so worked up about all of this. “I mean, I thought Buck and Tommy seemed good together.”
Eddie’s head jerks up.
“You don’t know Buck like I do,” he insists. “Buck is— Buck could have anyone. He’s kind and he’s thoughtful and he’s so hot, and he’s always thinking of others, you know? He is literally the perfect package. And I hate that he never thinks that he’s worth anything. But he’s worth everything.”
Marisol is speechless.
Eddie continues. “Buck could do so much better. He deserves someone who sees him, you know? Who sees the way he loves with his whole self and loves him back. He’s so easy to love.”
Suddenly, everything clicks together for Marisol in perfect clarity.
Eddie is in love with Buck.
Marisol can’t even be mad with Eddie for leading her on, because he clearly doesn’t realise it himself.
She massages her temples against the headache she can feel forming. She wonders, not unkindly, if Eddie’s previous relationships didn’t crash and burn for this exact same reason. Nobody wants to be the third wheel in any relationship, and clearly, she’ll never compare to Buck.
“Also,” Eddie barrels on. “Who the fuck does Tommy think he is, calling him Evan? Does he even know how complicated that name is for him? Only I get to do that!”
”The audacity,” Marisol mutters under her breath.
She has enough self-esteem to know she doesn’t want to deal with this. She’s not exactly excited to kick him while he’s down, but also doesn’t see the point in dragging this out. It’s not fair to either of them.
”I’m going to be honest with you, Eddie,” she says, “I think we should break up.”
Her words stop him in his tracks and he blinks, lost. “Wait, what?”
Marisol turns, reaching for her seatbelt. “Can you please just drive me home?”
***
Tommy is fairly certain he’s just witnessed Eddie have a complete meltdown.
And look, they’ve all been there. They’ve all had that moment where they’ve gotten irrationally jealous over their best friend dating someone, and not been able to —or abjectly refusing to— pinpoint exactly why it’s so upsetting.
The whole situation should be hilarious. It would be hilarious, if Evan didn’t look like he was about to cry.
“Hey,” Tommy reassures him. “It’ll be fine. I think we just surprised him a little.” Or a lot. Probably a lot.
Evan stares up at him. “You think?” He scrubs a hand down his face. “I shouldn’t have suggested this place.”
“There’s no way you could have known he was going to show up,” Tommy points out, casually draping his arm back across Evan’s broad shoulders.
“I should have guessed, knowing my luck.” Evan groans dramatically. “This is the worst first date I think I’ve ever been on.”
“Really?” Tommy asks, incredulously. “Worse than the one where you nearly died?” He smirks at the indignant expression on Evan’s face.
”Where did you even hear about that?” Evan splutters. “And yeah, worse than that.”
”Should I be insulted by that?” Tommy asks, mouth twitching in a smothered laugh.
”It’s not funny,” Evan grumbles, crossing his arms.
“It’s a little funny.”
Evan cracks, his lips lifting in a grin and they’re both laughing, and god he’s beautiful, Tommy thinks.
“Maybe I should check on him,” Evan says, after a moment, his hand reaching for his phone. “Make sure we’re okay.”
”Or,” Tommy suggests, plucking Evan’s phone from his fingers and laying it on the table, “we could get the bill and get out of here. You could come back to my place.”
Evan frowns, but doesn’t move to take his phone back.
”You’re his best friend,” Tommy reassures him. “You guys will figure this out.” And maybe they’ll eventually figure out their feelings for each other too.
Tommy’s not blind. He knows this thing between him and Evan isn’t going to go anywhere in the long run, but he’s hot and sweet and Tommy is just happy to see where this goes.
“Come on, come back to my place.”
Evan smiles. “Yeah, okay. I’d like that.”

silly Aiden headcanons because I have no impulse
i probably already done these before in other headcanon posts I made but ermm I’ll do it again 😹
small TW for scars at the end 🗣🗣
AIDEN :
Aiden has the most unhinged playlist ever like oh my giggly goodness we got metal we got rock we got classic we got indie we got pop we got vocaloid Idfk whatever you can think of ( same 😹 )
totally had an immense phase of just everything . Creepy pasta , animation , FNAF , idk any other phases from 2016 help
Probably dated like once or twice , but they weren’t serious at ALL and mostly online . He just said yes because he wanted to be nice since he never really had friends ofc , so why hurt someone you barley know if it means getting a friend ? ( I’m gonna explode 😭 )
I’m not sure when this was actually invented , but he’d probably try and convince everyone to make battery acid candy drinks . ( they all say no 😔 )
Sorta sad headcanon they if no matter how hard to tries to solve a difficult puzzle , and he fails , he just starts silently bawling his eyes out . Cause you know he’s really good at them right ? He can solve them pretty quickly ? So if he’s like absolutely pressured by a bunch of people watching expecting him to win ( or like his friends cause yk they believe in him !!!! ) and he can’t solve the puzzle he’ll be like “ why can’t I solve this why is this hard why am I failing “ or something and then start crying ig ( Yeouchers angst 😿 )
Bro is the heaviest napper ever you can stack things on him for HOURS but the moment he actually sleeps most things can wake him ( if he’s not comfortable at least . He’ll sleep pretty well at sleepovers )
I can’t figure out an art style for him but I updated it so ignore that last drawing it’s grody anyway he sometimes draws people but prefers just random splotches of color . He has extremely stylized art but yk , it’s just ‘ weird ’ according to some people since it’s really . . graphic . Not in a BLOOD BLOOD BLOOD way but very mixed ( if you get what I mean )
Hugs everything when he sleeps you can’t tell me otherwise like you seen his old bed ?? He had NOTHIN so absolutely is he gonna cuddle everything near him
Hates competing . ( idk if he did it before but we’ll see ) like he doesn’t like doing puzzle competitions anymore that much , he just got bored of it and was really kinda forced to do it when he was younger . BUT if it’s in a game against his friends , he’ll probably do it just to help them out cause they always get stuck if Logan can’t figure it out either .
Does that thing with music where If it absolutely hits he just starts spazzing out and dances to it
that one thing where he walks around in a circle talking to himself if he’s really deep in thought ( he could go on for hours so someone has to pull him out to drink water at least )
TONS of posters in his room
Him and Taylor binge shows together , often ask the others to join when they aren’t busy . They totally watch anime ( Tyler calls it childish then gets really invested in uhhhh let’s say full metal alchemist and sport animes like haikyuu or something I can’t think of any he’d like . But I’m gonna make them all watch Ghost stories because it’s funny )
Aidlyn cuddling is mostly done at Aidens house cause his parents rarely go up to check on him ( 😅💥 ) and also he had a ton of blankets for Ashlyn to wrap herself in . He got her a heavy weighted blanket for her birthday one time so when that’s not around she just uses Aiden as a blanket if she’s feeling affectionate ( he’s warm in the winter time and pretty light believe it or not )
Has a medium spice tolerance , eats more then what he can handle like a stinky loser
doesn’t like anyone pointing out his growing hair roots so just don’t talk about it much 😅😅
steals chopsticks from restaurants cause who needs to buy any ??? They’re free if you don’t get caught / hj

Alastor x [insert character]
heres my problem with this stuff ^^^
!!! ALL OF THIS IS MY OPINION !!!
• Alastor is cannomically aroace. and incase someone doesn't know what that means it means he doesn't as in does not have any kind of physical nor romantic attraction to anyone. [edited this bc someome corrected my definition]
• people shipping him platonically is fantastic! but romantic is just not going to happen.
"Oh but people ship non-cannon ships all the time!" "oh but you ship huskerdust. what if that never happens???" well first of all angel and husk are not canonically aroace. angel is cannonically queer and husk is pan. Alastor however is cannonically aroace. its not that its not going to happen in the show its the fact that aroace people hardly ever get representation in media and the hazbin fandom has been taking the respresentation Al brings away by saying and/or drawing alastor×lucifer (or alastor×vox) fanart ESPESCIALLY NSFW stuff.
Not to mention aroace people get the MOST hate even from other LGBTQIA+ people. people genuinely dont understand how someone could just not have romantic and sexual interest in anyone so people just thing "oh they want to be different." It's just gross to see the fandom taking about a character that is very open about not being sexual so heavily sexualized by a fandom that is supposed to be inclusive. that should count for alastor being aroace.
edit: to be clear im not generalizing. im speaking specifically about al. in the show he is very clearly not interested in anyone romanticall or sexually. im not speaking about aroace people as a whole. ik its a spectrum. im saying specifically alastor is not romantically attracted not sexually attracted to anyone. im saying that its wrong to take away that kind of representation from the people who do feel the same as alastor.
also the only reason i feel like this is an issue is because by sexualizing alastor specifically you are erasing his sexuality (or lack there of) its not that "oh but if Viv says hes aroace he is and we cant change that" its the fact that canon and fanon are different, however fannon can blur the line of what canon and not for newer fans of the show. thats how fandoms work. like people in creepy pasta are always like "omg ticci toby <3 waffles and hes so silly and hot ^_^" but hes actually a traumatized emo kid who brutally offed his dad then lit his neighborhood on fire. or like sally face fans white washing travis. hes native but still a lot of fanart has him pastey asf.

After the war — Fred Weasley
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Words: 1.4k
Fred Weasley x Female reader
Tw: mentions of the war, character death, mentions of the battle of the department of mysteries, mentions of anxiety and fear
A/N: in all honesty, fred was my first fictional love, and no matter how many characters I love, I always come back to him. In the wise Taylor Swift words, "I drive down different roads, but they all lead back to you"
Fred grinned softly as he opened the door to the house the two of you had purchased not too long ago. The second big commitment both of you had made together, the first one being when he got down in one knee almost a year ago now. Planning the wedding was not something neither of you wanted to do just now, relaxing into the idea of growing up a bit more before walking down the aisle and making things as official as they could get. Besides, you and Fred already knew you were in it for the long run, so there was no rush whatsoever.
In fact, he was so sure you were the one for him, he wouldn’t have proposed when he did, as it felt like he was repeating himself when he told you he wanted to spend his whole life with you. But the war was getting worse, and he needed you to know he meant it when he said you were the love of his life and he wouldn’t have it any other way. He wanted you to know he meant it when he said he’d fight anyone and anything to get back to you if it came down to it.
“Freddie?” your voice called from the kitchen, and he took off his jacket before making his way to you.
There you were, already in your pajamas -an old pair of pants you had used to wear whenever you had an early quidditch training in school and a t-shirt you had stolen from him ages ago-, your still damp hair leaving a humid patch on the back of your tee. Your back was to the door, focused on preparing the ingredients for dinner. Turning your head now, you smiled at your fiance and his lovesick gaze.
“Hi!” you greeted, clearly happy and a smile broke into his face at the sound of your voice “How was work today?”
“It was good, a bit slow, but good” he replied, walking over you, his arms going around your waist as he dipped down his head to kiss the spot between your neck and shoulder “Kids are already at Hogwarts, so my guess is it should stay that way for another two weeks, maybe. What are you making?”
“Read about a new recipe today, carbonara. Thought we’d give it a try”
“Sounds good to me. Gonna go and take a quick shower now, baby” he added, his hands drawing circles on your stomach “Care to join?”
You laughed, leaning against him and looking up at the redhead boy, before he kissed you softly. “It won’t be a quick shower if I join you, and we’re having pasta tonight. It shouldn’t take too long for the water to boil”
Fred clicked his tongue, disappointed “Later?” he asked, kissing you again.
“Definetly. I love you” you added, and he smiled at you, so adoringly you almost melted between his strong arms.
“I love you too, forever. Can’t wait to live my whole life with you, baby” and after another kiss, he went upstairs.
He was so happy, and so in love with you. You had been the light of his life for ten years now, ever since he met you that first day of school, on your way to Hogwarts. You were always laughing at him or his jokes and pranks, and you were his biggest supporter, always ready to help him or hear him out whenever he was late with an assignment, or when he wasn’t on top of his game at a quidditch match. Eventually, as years went by, you became his biggest source of comfort under the lame excuse of friendship, and it would be normal to find the two of you tangled with each other in the common room, especially after He Who Can’t Be Named came back, your hand always toying with his hair in a way it turned him putty in your hands. Through thick and thin, you had been his rock, and he had been yours.
When George and him left during Umbridge’s reign of terror, your heart broke into a million pieces, and you had to admit to yourself it wasn’t because you’d miss them, which you would, of course, but because the idea of being at Hogwarts without Fred felt outright wrong, and those last months of school were plain torture. Exacerbated, of course, by the actual torture you had endured at the Department of Mysteries.
Fred remembered that morning clearly. He had been woken up by his mother’s scream, which had him appearing downstairs within a second, and he remembered the bile coming up his throat when she told them Ron and Ginny had been involved in a battle, and Sirius Black had been murdered by his own cousin. But nothing prepared him for when George asked who else had gone to the Ministry, and your name came out his mother’s mouth.
“What?!” he asked, his hands leaning against the couch to support his weight “How is she?”
“They’re alright, said Dumbledore, tired, and sore from torture, but they’re alright” she explained “Tonks will have to stay some days at St. Mungo’s, but she’ll be okay soon”
“T– torture?”
George’s hand squeezed his shoulder, in a sign of silent support. He was worried too, for his siblings, for Hermione and Harry, but also for you. You were one of his favorite people, and he knew how much you meant to Fred even if he hadn’t said anything. He knew his twin, and knew his heart skipped a beat whenever he saw you.
“She’ll be alright” he told him.
He knew that. You were tough, and brave, and determined; qualities he never paid much attention to, finding your kindness, patience and charisma more interesting; but he felt as if he had failed you. He had promised you almost a full year ago, the night after Voldemort’s return and Cedric’s murder that he’d keep you safe, and he hadn’t kept his word. You had gone into battle, and you had gotten tortured of all things. He felt sick, the need to take you away from home and keep you from participating anymore in the war being stronger by the second. But you wouldn’t like that. You would want to fight, and he’d be damned if he lost you. He couldn’t.
Molly thought his cry was because of his younger siblings, but George knew better. Sure, Fred was worried about Ron and Ginny, but it was you who had him hyperventilating at the idea of losing you, because the idea of living life without you felt like torture.
Three weeks later, he had found himself at your doorstep, hoping to convince you to stay with them, at least until your parents got back from their holiday in Italy. Or forever. Maybe you felt the same way, maybe you loved him back, maybe you loved him more than you loved any of your friends.
And you did, to no one’s surprise but his.
So, now here he was, fresh out of the shower, in the house the two of you had bought, and as he went downstairs, he found you at the table, with the dinner ready, and his heart skipped a beat once more. Remembering the panic that had nestled in his chest during the war, how many times he had stayed awake at night, not being able to sleep, afraid he’d lose you, afraid they’d take you from him; his arms tense around your body while he prayed he wouldn’t fail you again. And now, the war was finally behind all of you, and you were safe.
“How was the shower?”
“Would’ve been better if you had joined me” he replied, leaning in to kiss the top of her head. You hit him playfully in the arm.
After dinner, he smiled softly at you, and grabbed your hand, stroking the back of it with his thumb. His eyes hadn’t left you at all as you ate, too mesmerized by how beautiful you were, and how happy he was with you, how happy you made him, and the way it felt his heart was way too big for his chest whenever he thought of you.
“I love you” he whispered, not being his bubbly, extroverted self, and you let him speak “I love you so, so much, my sweet girl”
You smiled softly, and held his hand back.
“I love you too, honey. So much. Forever”
Fred got up and took his wand out, letting magic take care of the dishes and pulled you into his embrace.
“Let’s go to bed, love”

WIP Wednesday 🌙
Tagged by: @theotherbuckley & @diazsdimples (such a little shit with his post)
Happy Valentine's Day to those who celebrate 🩵 and happy Wednesday to those who don't!
SURPRISE! I PICKED UP CUPID!BUCK AND WROTE SOMETHING! I'm determined to work past everything that stopped me from continuing it and am going to keep going. So we'll see what happens.
I'm doing a few snippets (treating y'all for being so nice and because it's V-Day) from what I wrote last night, so there's more under the cut along with tags!
Valentine’s Day sucks. You’d think being a descendant of Cupid, one would be all for the holiday. Not Buck. Buck hates the day. Look, he loves love. Is first in line to admit that he is a supporter of love and will happily help anyone and everyone find their one true love. Has done exactly that with many a people. Has developed a reputation because of it. But Valentine’s Day? Valentine’s Day can go die in a deep, dark pit for all he cares.
...
He absently scratches at his arm as he tries to focus enough to pick out a sauce. But he can’t do that until he picks out a type of pasta. Because Eddie is surprisingly picky about what pasta goes with what sauce, and so Buck staggers his way over to the pasta. Boxed, not fresh, because Eddie is also peculiar about that. It honestly makes Buck love the man more. Except the thought of loving his best friend has a shiver running down Buck’s back unpleasantly; not because of his love for Eddie, but simply because it draws in more love from around him. He feels a bit like he’s suffocating. He’s sweating and shivering at the same time. Everything is blurry around him. There’s a couple at the end of the aisle whispering to each other, their new love pouring off of them and over to Buck, crawling along his skin.
...
As Buck is sat down on the edge of the bed, he realizes something with a frown. There’s nothing coming from the house. There’s no feelings or emotions or anything. Which Buck has learned to adapt to with Eddie, had actually sought it out tonight. But it does mean something, or someone, is missing. “Chris?” “Valentine’s Day dance, remember?” Eddie places some clothing on the bed beside Buck. “You helped him pick out his outfit.” Right. He did. Buck frowns deeper. He doesn’t really remember it though. “You’re really not feeling well, are you?” Eddie mutters, fingers moving through Buck’s hair once more. It eases some of the throbbing in Buck’s head, and he falls forward until his face is planted into Eddie’s stomach, the cotton of his shirt soft against Buck’s itchy skin. This had been the right move. This is where he needed to be. Already he could feel the silence and lack of emotions from Eddie muffling the too loud noise inside of Buck’s body. He really should have listened to his sister and stayed home. Love sickness was a nasty thing.
...
“Good.” Eddie echoes, leaning over to place the glass on the side table. “How you feeling?” Buck wrinkles his nose, eyes falling closed again. “No’ good.” “Get some sleep then.” “Stay?” “I…” Eddie sighs, and then there’s movement before Buck feels a body settle next to his. He shuffles closer until Eddie’s arm winds around him, slotting a leg between Buck’s. “Get some rest, Buck.” “Knew you’d help.” Buck mutters, feeling himself drift off. But it wasn’t spinning and scary like before, in the store. No, here, he feels safe and secure, on steady feet. “Always help…”

It’d been over twenty minutes since Augustine and James had burst through the door and had dragged Bob in, first to the sunroom, then to the living room.
It had been over fifteen minutes since Augustine went fully stalked on Bob. She hadn’t stopped looking at him with her light green doe-eyes, a permanent smile drawn on her face as she listened to Bob answering her questions and James.
“Bob, you should stay for dinner!” Augustine insisted with a happy giggle as she grabbed Bob’s hand, pulling him from the couch and chasing both you and James to the kitchen.
Bob seemed overwhelmed, to say the least. It usually happened with Augustine, she had the energy of a thousand suns. Her mother often told both you and James that she was happy that she had both of you guys in her life, you could keep her in the ground. She wasn’t quite right about that, you often encouraged Auggies dreams, eccentric hobbies, and outlandish passions. It was what you loved the most about her.
“You’d want me to stay?” he asked meekly as Augustine sat him on the table of the kitchen and then climbed on it, placing her feet on the chair he was seated in, he moved his legs to give her space as she places her chin on her hand and watched him with dreamy eyes.
“You want him to stay?” James asked as she tried to check on the pie she’d decided to make for the three of you and then on the pasta she was brewing, before she ran to the fridge, taking out some ice and placing them on your wrist while you stirred the pasta, helping her.
She was always cooking a bit too much for only the three of you and things that didn’t mix up. Gold dust woman played in the background of the kitchen, you gazed at Bob who seemed a bit dumbfounded by all the activity going on in a small house, just three girls there. You smiled. It must’ve seen chaotic to anyone that didn’t know better but the three of you knew each other so well that you worked like clockwork.
“Augustine,” You warned her as you sat down next to Bob, giving him a warm smile and then returning to Augustine.
“What?” she shrugged as she twirled her bright auburn hair. “You’ve been so nice to our friend, we should let him stay,” she insisted as she coyly traced patterns on Bob’s forearm.
She was smitten. Bob seemed a bit petrified by her forwardness but there was a slight gleam in his eyes.
“You’re treating him as if he’s a puppy,” James tutted Augustine as she added a last touch of salt to the pasta.
Augustine tilted her head to the side as if she could see it. You were sure she would paint it, she was an artist, and she would spend her time drawing and painting common day-to-day things, sometimes even weird things. You didn’t doubt for a second she was already deciding if Bob was more of a dachshund or a golden retriever.
“Auggie,” you said before you hissed slightly after a certain move of your wrist. Bob's eyes fell on you, immediately concerned.
“Are you okay?” he asked, watching carefully, making sure that you hadn’t damaged the bandage. Your wrist twinged with a faint pain as you looked at how he held your wrist, examining it carefully.
“Yeah,” you smiled sweetly at him. He liked how you looked at him, there was a softness in your eyes but also a slight hint of fire. Bob nodded with a smile, raising the glasses from the tip of his nose. “I’ll show Bob the way out,”
“Bye, Bob!” Augustine called as you walked away from the kitchen, Bob following you. He turned around and gave Augustine a handsome smile. It made her squeal.
You chuckled as you reached the door and opened it for Bob. Closing your eyes, you took a deep breath of the salty air, the sound of the waves crashing against the ocean, you wondered if your date with Bob would lead to a summer with him.
“Your friends are really nice,” he muttered, making you open your eyes as you turned towards him. A slight blush spread through your cheeks, he noticed.
“Thank you,” you answered as you leaned against the frame of the door.
Bob smiled. He leaned into you, and your breath hitched in your throat slightly before closing your eyes, feeling his lips pressing against yours. “I’ll talk to you soon,” he muttered, his voice a bit gruff.
You nodded, wide-eyed as you kissed him one more time softly before he finally left. Your heart hammered in your chest as you watched him walk away, biting your inner lip as you wondered if he would be the rest of the summer for you. Staying there for a moment, you let your mind wander, there were so many endless opportunities this summer, and your life was just going to start.
By the time you returned to the kitchen, James had already served dinner. She and Augustine were whispering excitedly, their eyes fell on you immediately. They squealed loudly while you laughed as you sat at the table with them.
“He’s so cute!” Augustine giggled first, she grabbed your hand excitedly barely knocking the wine from the table, James catching it easily. “How well does he kiss?”
“You want to kiss him?” James asked with a huff.
Augustine's eyes lit up. “Can I?”
“Be my guest,” you laughed, holding her hand as Augustine shrieked. James' eyes landed on you, and she raised her eyebrow at you, warning you silently. “Sharing is caring,” you shrugged.
Augustine let out a gasp before she leaned over the table, almost knocking the wine from the table again, and kissed you loudly on the cheek.
“That’s a real friend!”
“You can’t!” James intervened. “You always do this Auggie, you fall for the ones that don’t seem to hurt a fly and then you end up with a broken heart,”
Augustine seemed to be deflated, her eyes turning a bit sad as she recalled her past flings. Many flings. Augustine could charm anyone and she fell easily, she fell hard. You tilted your head towards James, squinting softly at her before you took Augustine's hand and squeezed it. James shrugged.
“You’re right,” Augustine huffed. “Quiet ones are the worst,” she said as she took a big bite of her pasta.
“And you said that you were on relationship celibacy this summer,”
“We all are,” you assured James.
“Kisses?Yes. Foreplay? Sure.” James stated seriously as if it was a matter of national security while she sipped a bit of her wine.
Augustine’s light seemed to return as her eyes wandered mindlessly on the kitchen, her blush returning to her cheeks. “Dot. Dot. Dot?” she asked James with a smile.
James nodded playfully. “Fine by me,” she stated. “Whirlwind romances, one night stands and not looking back?”
Augustine and you agreed immediately, all three of you laughing loudly as you finally ate your dinner peacefully. You tried not to think too much about Bob as you all ate and then cleaned up. It didn’t work though, by the time you finished the dishes and finally went to lie in your bed, you were already thinking about late-night dips in the ocean, the salty taste if you kissed him there, his fingers touching your skin again.
“Sweets,” James called you, snapping out of your thoughts. “Get ready,” she said as she leaned on the frame of your door. You frowned.
“Why?”
“We’re leaving for a party in an hour and a half,” James explained as she washed her teeth, Augustine already had the rollers in her head and was brushing her teeth as well.
You groaned slightly. “I just spend so much time at the hospital, I can’t like to get a pass?” you asked them, puppy-eyeing them, hoping they would let you stay and rest.
James snorted as Augustine gasped, audibly. “You promised this summer was going to be ours,” she insisted as she sat on your bed. “You can’t back out,” she warned.
You rolled your eyes before you smiled at her.
“Fine,”
SEVEN YEARS LATER
Friday mornings were your favorite in the summer. They always seemed a bit too perfect, too warm, too golden for them to actually exist. The kitchen windows are open, the large glass panels giving you a perfect view of the beach, letting the sound of waves crashing against the sand. You sip on your coffee as you watch Inés carefully drawing a picture with the most precision you’d ever guessed a six-year-old could have.
“What are you doing my sweet girl?” James asks as she climbs down the snail-like chairs with her laptop in hand. She was probably giving a lecture, it was already a bit late for her to be getting out of her room at this time.
“Look, Auntie!”
Inés smiles brightly as she watches her aunt climbing from the stairs. Quickly, showed the picture to James, even though she had refused to let you see the unfinished product. You shake your head as James gasps dramatically while examining the drawing. It was for her summer classes that had started this week, homework she had assured you.
“This is the most beautiful painting I’ve ever seen!” James gasped as she sat down next to Inés while you stood up, shaking your head as you smell the pancakes cooking on the stove. The smell fills the air, and a sense of contentment and peace fills your chest.
Last night you hadn’t really slept that well, honestly, it wasn’t until Inés climbed to your bed around three in the morning that you had managed to let go of everything that had happened the previous night. When you woke up this morning, you’d tried to forget it, you’d promised yourself to let it go. You hadn’t thought about them in a long time and you knew this town better than they ever could, you knew how to avoid them. You knew you could.
“It’s me and mommy,” Inés explains to James, pointing at the circle and stick figures she’d made. You smile proudly as you serve Inés her pancakes, even though they were only sticks and figures, Augustine had already told Inés about the depth in a painting and she’d managed well enough.
“That’s amazing, baby,” you congratulate your daughter, as you caressed her chubby cheeks while gazing at her sea-foam green eyes.
Inés smiles happily at you while she looked down at the drawing for a second and frowned slightly. You caught it right away, the way her little brows furrowed.
“Mommy,” she asks, you can feel the uneasiness in her voice.
“Yeah?”
“Can I draw Auntie Auggie and Auntie James?” she hesitates. “Since I don’t have a dad, I don’t want it to look empty,”
You flinch at the question, ever so slightly, then you manage to set your face back in a mask of calm. There was a beat of silence in the air as you took a deep breath, James’ eyes fell on you. Inés had asked about her father ever since she started kindergarten, before that the only type of family she knew was the one you’d molded for her.
“Of course baby,” you say. “You can add grandma too,”
Inés’ face lit up again, that joyful smile that you used to recognize in someone else years before appeared on her face, and a noise that registered delight escaped her little lips. Without any hesitation, she takes her pencil colors and continues her hard work.
James glances at you again, but you’re no longer in that kitchen. You’re back on the Hard Deck the day before, watching the ghosts of your past emerging from the shadows, causing you to reevaluate every decision you’d ever made.
“Hey,” James says.
You snap out of your thoughts as you glance down at your coffee and the pancakes, trying to take a deep breath before looking at James.
“Why don’t you finish that, I have to show mommy a little something,” James asks Inés, who simply nodded her head.
You follow James to the living room, it’d changed a lot in the past few years, the old green sofás were no longer there. Instead, cozy white sofás surround the place, with a nice coffee table and books. Not like before, not like it was when they spent their nights here.
“When are you going to tell her she does have a father?”
“I’ve told her she does have one,” you snip at James. “She doesn’t need to know who he is. I’ll tell her when the time’s right”
“The time is now,” James says. “She’s starting first grade and you know how mean children are,”
It feels like the air was sucked out of the room as you stare at James. The way that your chest aches, the way your heart contorts in your chest. At first, you believe that you’re scared, you’re scared because you never prepared yourself for this. Honestly, nothing with Inés was really prepared or thought out, not even her birth. And yet you know that’s not it, it takes you a moment to realize. Guilt. Guilt because you feel like you’re setting up your kid for failure, guilt because her dad is in this town, guilt because you honestly don’t really know-
“Hey,” James calls as she grabs your hand. “You with me?”
Fighting for your tears to remain in your eyes, you nod. “Inés has a strong support system, she has me, she has you two, and my mother,” you say. “Just because she doesn’t have the traditional nuclear family, it doesn’t mean that she’s not okay,”
“I never said,”
“The family I created for her is beautiful, she has a sense of community and belonging and she’s happy,” you suck in a breath. “I don’t need this right now,”
Inés called you back into the kitchen and you don’t give time to James to bring up the topic anymore. You praise her for her creativity and talent, and she beams with pride as you tell her that you’ll put it in the sunroom along with her other drawings. Maybe even frame it. As you clean up the breakfast dishes, you feel grateful that James lets you be, taking Inés from your hands as she will drive her to summer camp.
By the time you get out of the house, it is already early afternoon. Fridays are a good day for you at work, always managing to draft and write all the documents requested from you in the morning, giving you the afternoon to run errands and spend time with Inés. A movie night was in order, Auggie had chosen it and Inés was excited to see Hocus Pocus, again.
And then you recall that you still owe Penny Benjamin around twenty bucks, even more for the broken glass. You wince at the thought of going back to the Hard Deck but it’s still early, there’s no possible way that the Navy guys arrive there that early. Although, in all honesty, it’d been a while since you’d been that early to the small bar near the Beach.
The sun was bright, and the air was hot but you try to take a deep breath as you walk up to the Hard Deck. There’s a dread as you stay out of the bar a little longer, the heat making your hair stick a little bit to your skin while you glare at the bar.
I’m not fucking scared of a place. You tell yourself and yet you can feel the anxiety building up inside of your chest but you still walk up to the bar. With a deep breath, you push the door open. It was a little bit more packed than you expected it to be but alas, you don’t notice any uniforms near the bar. There’s only Penny, cleaning some glasses as she talks to Jimmy.
“Loved your disappearing act from yesterday,” Penny says brightly.
“I know,” you groan as you fish around in your purse for your wallet. “Here’s what I owe you,” you offer to Penny.
“There’s really no need, kid,” Penny replies.
“I insist,”
Penny lets out a sigh as she shakes her head and places the money in her back pocket with a smile. You let out a deep breath as you nod to Penny and begin to turn away.
“Are you going to tell me what was that yesterday?”
Your brows furrow immediately, and a twinge of anxiety ripples through your body as you turn to Penny, she was watching you intently.
“It wasn’t anything,” you lie. Penny raises one eyebrow at you. “I mean, he was getting a little bit too close,” you finally say.
She doesn’t believe you, you can see it in her eyes but she doesn’t bother you with questions and you’re slightly thankful for that.
“I’ll see you around, kid,” Penny finally says and you nod.
“See ya,” you answer as you turn around and suddenly freeze.
Bradley Bradshaw was never good at taking his eyes off of you. Often teasing him when his eyes lingered a bit longer on your body, on your face, you recall how your body felt like those days, how it vibrated every time his eyes fell on you. It doesn’t feel the same way now. Now, your mind goes into overdrive as he stares at you, as you see how his smile falters for a moment, and then drops completely as he sees you.
And then, he walks behind him.
Bob’s Floyd light smile still seems to make goosebumps appear all over your skin when in all honesty, it shouldn’t. But his smile doesn’t falter, you know when he’s genuine, you know that he’s actually happy to see you which in turn only makes you feel worse as both of them call your name at the same time.
You stumble backward and something in your chest, a pressure that you hadn’t felt in a long time washes over you. It feels like you can’t breathe as both of them stare at each other with a frown.
“Honey?”
Your vision goes blurry, and by the time you try to speak, your throat feels so tight that no words come out of your mouth. All you can feel is the panic rising inside your chest, your worst nightmare coming to life.
Suddenly, everything goes black.

helloo! I love your writing so much, and saw you were taking requests for doors so I decided to slide in!
if I may, could I request a Jeff x Reader thing? only if you want to, I just haven’t seen much of him and I think he deserves more attention :)
Helloo! Im glad writing is enjoyable! I’m still getting into the hang of things again, so do excuse me, its about time I get to doing my long ass how you meet/dating headcanons with fic intervals again One Jeff comin’ up!
===========================
Jeff x Reader [Hc/Fic, fluff]
Jeff, the sweetest entity and friendliest one in the Hotel.
Surprise surprise, he's not one of the Human turned Entity ones
Genuine supernatural creature right here
Unlike Jack and Shadow, the founders of the hotel, he’s just here for business, and was also hired as the hotel’s chef, he makes one good pasta I’ll tell you that
Also he’s not a maniac who loves to torture people for funnies like the other two… well, at least that Jack’s whole spiel, Shadow… is too reserved, and we don't know his motives with the hotel, he only helped with the furniture and keeps knocking down bOOKSHELVES
Jeff never really leaves his room after the Library, it's a good room, and he got a pretty good deal with Jack to make his room unavoidable for players, poor things must be famished
Which means if you come over to his room hungry and mentioned, you bet he’s going to sit you down and make you some food, in exchange for some coins of course, this ain't free dining
Most players just stop to take a breather in his room, have a chat with Goblino and buy something they need from his wares
Flashlight? Lucky for you, he has one with a full battery today! Cross? Skull key? Lighter? He has it all, being a shadow like entity has its perks, he slithers around the shadows at times and snatches anything he can get his hands on unnoticed, nothing on drawers though, it's too risky to be seen and Timothy doesn't quite enjoy visitors too much… and Jeff himself is not the biggest fan of spiders
Anyway, you meet like everyone else meets him, get past Figure, get to his room, take a breather from the adrenaline dying down.
He greets you from his stand with a wave of his tentacle as Goblino also greets you, and Bob couldn't even be bothered to look your way
You’re a regular, technically everyone is, but some don't spare too much time to chat or even tip, how rude!
You, however, stick around for a while to talk to either Goblino, buy a snack or one of the things on his stand, and you always tip, because of course you do.
Your friendly nature draws Jeff to you, looking especially happy whenever you come around, waving excitedly, he shakes your hand when you approach as a greeting as he keeps himself in the shadows, the lights hurt his eyes so he’s not crossing his stand ever.
He watches you from his stand as you talk with Goblino, something warm cooking in his heart, he gets flustered when you talk with him, how odd, he’s never felt this before
He doesn't talk, he can, but he doesn't aside low rumbles or clicking/chattering, you're not too sure what those sounds are, he can't speak English or any other language aside his mother tongue, which is cryptic and hard to understand for anyone else who doesn't speak it, though the other entities seem to understand him, even Goblino, you wonder if it's just players who can’t.
He can write, crudely, but he’s trying, after all the S on his sign is backwards, he’s learning, give him a moment.
You two can keep up conversations sometimes, he writes on a notepad you gave him once, and you speak, he’s glad you try to adjust to make him comfortable and include him
His sentences are broken, but you get the gist
You sighed before opening the door to the “Store” room, a familiar tune filling your ears and your heart with relief, Figure had been more aggressive today for whatever reason, you wondered if something upset it or if it was just in a bad mood?
You didn't have a clue, but that didn't matter now, you just hoped they would calm down until you reach the warehouse, for now, you can breathe again. Jeff looked over from his stand, visibly lighting up in mood as he waved an arm at you, turning towards you as Goblino greeted you from his seat.
“¡Oye, amigo! Good to see you in one piece!” the goblin yelled, counting the coins he had snatched from drawers, you waved, about to say something before the goblin turned to the skeleton beside him “what’s that? … HAHAH! Yeah, Bob says you sure don’t look alive!”
It made you chuckle a bit, you knew you didn't, you were getting tired of all these runs and repeated cycles, the adrenaline only fueled you so much, and the runs you actually got to the elevator weren’t feeling as satisfying as they used to be. You silently agreed with the goblin as he went back to counting his coins, sitting on the chair Jeff pulled up next to his counter
Noticing how tired you looked, he moved the radio across the room to the table next to the duo, lowering the volume a bit more to make it ambience noise for you both, you appreciated the small gesture, as much as you liked his music it was starting to give you a headache
He pointed at the items on the counter as his head tilted with a chirp, you shook your head
“Not now at least, buddy, I’m just-... tired…” you said leaning against the counter, he nodded in understanding, moving the items behind the counter, leaving only one of the pillows he previously had set a crucifix on.
His arms pulled a notebook from behind the counter and a pen, gifts from you, it made you smile a bit as you faintly remembered the day you gave him that to talk with you, he looked so happy, though you were brought back to reality when he turned the book to you
“Figure angry tonight, because of Ambush I thinks, you okay? They hurt you?” as you read, he made worried rumbling sounds at you with worried eyes, seeming to look you over for any injuries. His gentle concern was appreciated, smiling warmly at him despite your tired eyes
“I noticed, they didn’t hurt me, I’m alright, I just… I dunno… just tired, this cycle is getting exhausting, I might be starting to realize I won’t ever be able to leave this place…” you let out a couple sad laughs, looking down at the counter, it was true, the possible harsh reality was setting in, and you didn't know how to take it, but it wasn’t well, you may never see your family again, if you even had one, you barely remembered, this place fucked with your memories and you hated it.
Out of your view, Jeff seemed saddened by your mention of leaving, he tried not to think about it much himself, but the idea of you leaving made him scared, sad. He didn't want you to leave, but he knew that this place wasn't built for your survival in the first place. Silence hung thick in the air for a moment before you heard scribbling again, the notebook sliding into your view, “Have you eaten? Drink water? Want anything, friend?” The hospitality made you scoff a fond laugh, shaking your head again, “I'm fine, Jeff, thank you though.”
You heard him chirp again, closing your eyes just for a moment, you felt his arms gently tug at your arms up, you looked surprised as he silently asked you to raise your arms a bit, pulling the pillow still on the counter to you before scribbling again, “rest head, tired friend, you need it. May I play with hair?”
You laughed, warmth rising to your cheeks as he put an arm on your shoulder, gently tugging you down, “sure buddy, god how I am so lucky to have met you?”
He let out a happy thrill as you laid your head on the cushion, sighing as he played with your hair, another arm gently rubbing your back as you crossed your arms over your head, slowly slipping into sleep, he wouldn’t mind if you took a nap, would he? Nahhh…
Jeff looked over your relaxed form, completely forgetting anything else around them as he focused solely on you, your hair, your face, your mannerisms, looking over you softly, love struck as ever, letting out gentle thrills and almost purr-like rumbling, he knew he was completely infatuated with you, he knew his kind’s mannerisms regarding love, he just needed the perfect time and words to let you know
El Goblino and Bob had long moved on, figuring to give the two of you some privacy, despite Jeff completely forgetting they were there in the first place. The lights in the room dimmed with a flick of an arm before gently wrapping around you, pulling another cushion for himself as he laid his shadowy head beside yours, glowing eyes gently casting light on your face for a couple of moments, seeming to either have really fluffy, long hair or fur sprawling on the makeshift balcony as he slipped into sleep himself
I was very tired and sleepy when I wrote this, can you tell I think falling asleep near each other and cuddling is the biggest sign of trust? It's also my favorite thing in couple scenarios, I think it's so cute
Anyway, his shop room is completely off limits for other entities, really only Rush kinda breaks that rule sometimes, he just has no other way to go through, Jeff understands but it's a pain to replace the lamps
Jack can’t do shit if he finds you two being sappy with each other, Jeff isn’t someone he can control like that, he’s a business partner, and he can't just kick the guy out because of something so “petty” in the eyes of other entities, also too much paperwork
He CAN however make the entities go nightmare mode on you out of no where, increased difficulty mf good luck
But he won’t find out, why? Because Jeff is very good at hiding things, including other entities and players, so you’re the only one allowed behind his counter
He’ll hide you behind there if he feels Jack’s presence approaching, it's so dark in there that if you make not sounds he wouldn’t have less of a clue you're even there
I’ll be honest I don’t feel like writing how he confesses atm, so I’ll be owing y’all this one, but let's get into the dating hcs before those ideas cease existing in my mind
Jeff is the softest coziest entity to cuddle with, he goes neck to neck with Rush in that department, with Rush only being a bit tougher due to whatever he is, meanwhile Jeff is all soft all around, squishy
Like the other he has two forms, I like to think as much as he may have smooth tentacle arms and shit, he’s a fluffy ball of shadow, and in his humanoid form, that fluff goes to hair
It's long too, like that shit almost drags on the floor, he loves when you play with his hair just as much as he likes playing with yours
He’ll actually melt in your hands if you play with his hair or trace his face
Usually he wears a long coat in his humanoid form, like a cartoonishly shady seller on the street, not much under it aside black pants and, oddly enough, a ruffled white shirt, he doesn't even wear shoes
He likes cuddling with you in the dark of the room he stays in, it's a comfy little room just like the other bedrooms you can find, it's just different in ways that it's personalized to Jeff’s liking, it’s also connected to the kitchen
Cooking? Amazing. With you? Even better. He’ll call you over to help him cook you anything if you want to, give you a headlight and batteries for it, and get to work!
Best cook for sure, he’ll cook and bake you anything you’re craving, just give him a name and maybe a recipe and he’ll do it
Gift giving and quality time are his love languages, for sure, he adores listening to you ramble about anything you like, explain lore of any media you like for hours, he’ll listen and write down questions for you to answer, sometimes he’ll tune out and just look at you with the dumbest love struck expression ever.
Anything he finds in the hotel floors and stuff that remind him of you are going directly to you when you get to his room, even of how he found it is… less than conventional
“Hey Jeff, how are you, hun?” *happy chirping as he gives you a shiny brooch* “oh that's cool, thank you so much!- why is there blood on it.” *confused thrilling*, he thought he cleaned it well enough, ofc he got it off a corpse
You are not immune to receiving comfy knitted sweaters and scarves from him, he knits as a hobby too, anything he makes for you will be to your preferences and sizes, it can get pretty cold in the hotel sometimes!
Surprisingly, Guiding Light is not a worrywart if you ever tell them you're with Jeff, they like Jeff and knows he’s a good… entity, so he gives you both their thumbs up of approval
The other entities, though? If Jeff ever tells them, it's a lot of mixed feelings
“Oh hey Jeff what's going on?” *chattering and chirping* “oh that's cool glad your business is going we- FUCK YOU MEAN YOU'RE DATING A PLAYER?!?!?!”
BUT LIKE, THEY CAN’T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT, I mean, this guy is associated with Jack so for all they think, they work under him too, they sometimes fear what he could do if they dare fuck around with him, as much as he’s a sweetheart. Don't hold it against them, though, they're not used to constant niceness from entities like him
Regardless, he’s honestly the best one to date in the hotel, sure Jack would make your runs a nightmare, but he wouldn’t touch you with a 10-foot pole if he can help it, as long as it doesn't hinder Jeff’s job then you’d be fine in theory

RANDOM CREEPYPASTA HEADCANONS !!!!!! (Clocky, Nina, Jane & Liu)
I sent someone a hc so now i must tell you all mine (mainly their relationships to one another)
CLOCKWORK:
The hands on clockwork’s clock eye spin whenever she’s nervous or flustered. It happens around jane all the time
Clockwork also really likes owls. Like when she wasnt drawing gore she’d draw owls instead (there would be tons of small doodles of them on the edges of her homework n stuff)
She’s also fairly insecure about the stitches on her mouth. Like, she immediately regretted doing this to herself, and ever since she absolutely hated how they looked but has always been too scared to pull them out. She loved wearing masks during covid 100%
She also mainly kills adults. Isn’t sure quite why she kills people at this point. Clockwork’s fucked in the head and is generally a very twisted person, so she knows that at least, but still doesn’t really have an exact reason for it. Revenge? Satisfaction? She just can’t figure it out. But doesn’t give a fuck either way.
NINA:
I have my own sort of au(ish?) surrounding Nina bc man I love her so much (SHES MY 2ND FAV PASTA MY GIRL DOESNT DESERVE THE HATE SHE GETS </3) so a lot of these hcs will have to do with that
Ok now to actual headcanons
Nina regrets killing her family. She felt it was a good idea at first because she wanted to be more like Jeff when she was obsessed with him, but eventually she lost feelings for him and now regrets all of it. It haunts her at night.
She’s extremely hyper as well. Like always moving, whether its bouncing her leg when sitting or tapping her foot while standing, just movement always no matter what. Even in her sleep she never stops moving, wakes up in the weirdest positions all the time with her blankets half off the bed (i may be projecting slightly for this one)
After her obsession with Jeff ended, Nina didn’t really kill anyone that much. After what she did to her family she couldn’t. Nina still has the urges to hurt people but every time she tries she just sees her family and can rarely go through with it. She does occasionally kill people though, mainly if she’s extremely upset or angry. A sick form of stress relief if you will
Nina and Jane get along fairly well, surprisingly enough. Nina hates Jeff almost as much as Jane does (she blames Jeff for everything that happened) and it was this mutual hatred of him that brought the two together. They aren’t the closest of friends, but do spend a lot of time together (aka Nina is homeless and crashed at Jane’s house most of the time)
Nina also didn’t really get much education. I mean she killed everyone when she was 11 and has been on the run ever since, and she also just really hated school and didn’t want to anyways.
JANE (“The True Story” version):
Jane, like Clockwork, is very self conscious about her appearance. After all, she did get seriously burnt and disfigured when Jeff set her on fire, and she never leaves the house without her mask. She rarely takes it off. Even when sleeping. She only lets people very close to her see her face (Aka Clockwork, Nina, & Liu) and even then it’s very rare. Also longsleeves, pants, gloves- she likes having as much of her skin covered as possible.
She’s very close with Liu actually. Jane sees him as a brother. When Liu survived Jeff’s stabbing he was out on his own for a long time, and ended up stumbling across Jane after like a year of total isolation. Him and her became good friends not just because of how Jeff affected them but the two generally just fit together well, they’ve been really good friends for a while now (I LOVE THESE TWO SO MUCH THO LIKE THEYRE BEST FRIENDS FR!!)
Another thing about Jane is that she’s not a killer like the others, really. She doesn’t even know how she got that title herself, her whole purpose is killing Jeff yes but Jane would never hurt an innocent person. Does she particularly give a shit if people get hurt? Not really. Not unless she cares about them deeply. Jane doesn’t care about Jeff’s victims; she just wants him dead on account of her own personal experience. But she’d never hurt anyone who didn’t deserve it.
This actually causes quite some problems between her and Clockwork. I ship these two hard but I would be lying if I didn’t say this was a major tension point. Again Jane doesn’t really get hurt from these people dying, but the two definitely clash in the sense of morals specifically.
LIU
I have my own sort of story for Liu, mainly because since there are so many different interpretations I didn’t know which to choose. Same as Nina i may talk ab it later
Liu’s had it rough since Jeff died. Like, BAD. He didn’t really have anyone else during that time and was alone for a while. When he met Jane he was much happier, but also discovered he was fairly scared of losing them. Jeff had taken away everything from him, and he was so so scared that it would happen again with Jane. With how her and Jeff hated each other, Liu’s had several nightmares about her getting killed. He doesn’t really trust Nina that much though, since she used to be like- Jeff’s biggest fan. He sees she’s changed and is a better, SOMEWHAT healthier person, but he has trouble trusting or being around her anyways.
Speaking of, MASSIVE trust issues, but also gets attached way too easily. The person closest to him stabbed him in the back in the worst way imaginable and now he’s terrified of it happening again. Yet at the same time after a year of being completely alone he’s so desperate for connection that he’ll rush into friendships anyways. It’s sort of this weird guessing game, which side of him you’ll get first, and it depends from person to person.
Sort of random and totally unrelated to what i was just talking about but he really likes forests. Being out in nature snd just exploring the calm environment (especially with friends) is one of his favorite activities.

🏘️
For Jojo, Shishi, and Ezzie (The Twst OCs ;w;) for the OC Ask meme)
Similarly to the last post!! This is color coded: me/narrator as default, blue as Jocia, and green as Ezra
🥣what's your favorite food?
"So this is some sort of interview? Alright then," Jocia gruffly responded, slouching over in her seat upon realizing the question was actually rather simple. She grinned, "Bulgogi's a fav. It's something my sister showed me when we were kids. Apparently she was trying to learn more about our family history or somethin', did a damn lot of research too."
"It's not something I looked much into myself, but I'm a complete sucker for anything barbecued or grilled. I think... Oh yeah, we tried it out on a camping trip. I stole some of hers off her plate," Jocia chuckled, scratching at the back of her head as she reminisced, "I gave her hell during that trip. Wouldn't be surprised if that's why we never did something like that again. Made it up to her later, though."
-
"Ooh! How fun!" The professor exclaimed with a sharp-toothed grin, "Let's see, should I go into detail? I don't see why not. You're supposedly looking into learning more about me after all, little sprout," He cheerfully pondered aloud, politely folding his hands in his lap.
"My favorite dish is Pasta Alla Gricia. It's absolutely divine. With most of the foods I like, they've unfortunately been changing and shifting in ways I'm simply not a fan of with the passage of time. BUT! With this? It's only gotten better since the first time I tried it one hundred years ago! I'll gladly buy you some sometime, little sapling. Oh! Perhaps I can get some for the whole class... Like a day of celebration after one of our competitions! It's important for student's to destress, after all!~" Ezra hummed to himself with a firm nod.
🥰do you think you're attractive?
"Uh..." The woman droned on, crossing her arms over her chest. She offered a casual nod after perusing her own thoughts, "Like, physically? Sure, yeah," She bluntly answered.
"It's not really something I've thought too much of before. I guess looking in the mirror and seeing how far I've come gives me something to be proud of. Especially since I'm... not the best at styling. Everyone else in the family got all that."
"But, hell, I've worked hard on myself. Even if working out and such is more of a chill hobby of mine, I'm still confident in how I'm built. Not to mention I can see little parts of the people around me in myself too, yeah? Like- an old friend of mine regularly helps me dye my hair, and I got my piercings at the same time as my brother. If I didn't like those parts of myself, it feels kinda like a dig on them too. No matter whatcha think anyway, there are gonna be people out there who think you're pretty sick."
"...Eh, I'm not good at getting all sappy."
-
Ezra blinked, his drawing his lips into a line. His brows furrowed, "This is a difficult question to be modest about, isn't it?" He awkwardly chuckled, bringing a hand up to massage his temple.
"Oh, I don't know. I have a lot of things I have to work on, truly. It's quite an ordeal. Not that I'm not proud of my appearance! After all, a lot of it was greatly inspired by my late father."
"...Ah! I forgot to mention- I'm a changeling fae, of course. I'm not the biggest fan of shapeshifting, however, so I try my best to correlate my appearance to my adoptive human family. In that way, I suppose topics such as 'attractiveness' are a bit more complicated to someone like me, dear," He finished, dodging and weaving around the actual question through his rambles.
🏘️where's your happy place?
Jocia brightened up a bit at this, smirking as the answer came easily, "With my siblings," she replied briefly.
"They're fun as hell to be around. We got each other's backs. They're a bunch of little shits sometimes, but we know each other better than anyone else," She paused, "At least... most of us. More of a reason for me to get home, as if I didn't need any more of one already."
-
"My classroom, of course! Oh, it's so fun!" The teacher excitedly replied, eccentrically taking the time to pop up out of his seat and lean over the table, "It's where I spend most of my time! Working with students in bloom, watching their talents grow, listening to my favorite stars sing broadway, tending to my adorable potted plants..." He babbled on endlessly, happily explaining to no end.
"...I haven't been here for very long, that is true, but it has very quickly become my favorite place to be. So much so I often get caught up in things and forget to attend meetings. I suppose me and the other fae individuals here have that in common... I'm working on that, however! Got to make sure my memory is in top condition!"
"Is that it? 'Kay. Be seeing ya."
-
"This was very pleasant! Thank you kindly for inviting me."

RE: https://www.tumblr.com/chaifootsteps/734099029865250816/what-deeply-tragic-about-viv-as-a-content-creator?source=share
Honestly, this is something that has been bothering me for a while now and that's how people (but especially artists) think writing is easy and something they can jump into headfirst just because they're literate. That's like if I went up to an artist and said: "I can hold a pencil and draw a stick figure, so I can draw just as good as you".
I don't know why there's an inherent devaluation of writing specifically as you really just don't see this sort of thing with other creative mediums. Yet somehow, every motherfucker who got Cs in English thinks they're capable of rivaling or even besting writers who've worked their ASSES off to hone their craft.
Now this isn't to say that it's not possible for non-practiced writers TO get good at writing. Ultimately, that Ratatouille line is right: "Anyone can cook."
At least in that, ANYONE can learn to cook and a good cook can come from ANYWHERE, but no one is born just knowing how to cook and it's the same shit for writing. Knowing how to put a sentence together is the equivalent of turning on a burner and boiling pasta in that it's the first step toward developing your skills. But going further requires you to actually dedicate your time to it as a serious artistic endeavor.
And sure, not everyone has to treat writing or drawing or any art as a serious hobby (fandom does it for fun after all). But I dunno...for people like Viv who are trying to write a TV SERIES, it's just fucking insulting.
TL;DR: I just wish people respected writing more and didn't act like it was an "easier" artform that people can just casually "pick up" the skills for without actually devoting time and effort to learning them.
As someone who's had to endure Vivzie and also children's book after children's book written by celebrities? The lack of respect for writing as an art form sometimes keeps me up at night.
