I think that tme people have heard a lot of things about terfs that give them a false impression of who can be a terf. yes, most terfs are heterosexual. but there are bisexual and lesbian terfs. yes, terfs are racist. but there are still terfs who are poc. yes, terfs are antisemitic. but there are still jewish terfs. yes, terfs are intersexist. but there are still intersex terfs. yes, terfs are ableist. but there are still disabled terfs. yes, terfs are transphobic. but there are still nonbinary and transmasc terfs. if you're not transfem, and especially if you were afab, terfs will happily accept you into their "sisterhood".

like, if you think I'm being harsh here, you need to understand that for trans women, we have to see them all. you might think that because you're [insert marginalized identity], you couldn't possibly be a terf. but I can guarantee you I've been personally harassed by a terf who shares that exact same identity, and a lot of trans women can say the same. are they less common than the stereotypical cishet white christian perisex able-bodied women that you imagine all terfs to be? absolutely, but they still exist. and it doesn't particularly matter if they don't check all those boxes, because at the end of the day, they're still calling me a male-socialized rapist who will never be a woman and telling me to kill myself! it doesn't matter to them that the movement they're a part of harms people like them - people like you - because they hate people like me more.

it would be nice if we could all pretend that terfs are this tiny group of ultra-privileged conservative women but when you're transfem it becomes so glaringly obvious that that's nothing more than an illusion. terfs are a fairly large hate group, one that includes people from any background you can imagine, excluding transfems. if it bothers you to be reminded that there are terfs who share the same background as you, then do something about it. they're everywhere - they could be your family, your friends, your co-workers, your classmates. start advocating for trans women, especially the ones who also share the same background as you, and shield them from transmisogyny. learn to actually recognize transmisogyny and nip it in the bud when people start spouting off terf talking points - it's better not to let them become terfs at all. you're not helping any trans women when you plug your ears and pretend that people just like you can't possibly be violent transmisogynists.

I don't see people talk about it as much as other kinds of intrusive thoughts and I know i really could've benefited from knowing about this sooner than just a day or two ago when I saw confirmation from others that it was a thing so let me say here:

yes, bigoted intrusive thoughts with OCD (racism, queerphobia, sexism, antisemitism, etc.) ARE a thing and you are NOT any of those things for having these thoughts forced upon you by your brain.

This stuff is absolutely fxcking awful to have (especially if you also experience thought broadcasting [a paranoid delusion that often accompanies OCD from what I've read, and that I know I have personally, that your thoughts can in some way be heard or seen by others. This can manifest in multiple ways, and I know it has done such for me. I mainly experience it as feeling that people in my general vicinity can hear/see what I'm thinking. I've also had it latch onto specific people before, even when those people aren't near me physically. Another way you may experience it is that your thoughts are being literally broadcasted in some way, like via a screen or radio. And yes, I've had this too), particularly in a world where cancel culture is so prevalent and where people are sometimes a bit too quick to accuse someone of this being these awful things... often for groups they aren't even a part of themselves and would not have the right to speak for.

I have felt incredibly embarrassed by having to experience these thoughts, sometimes even concerning groups that I am literally a part of. I've had these thoughts even against my own ethnicity from time to time. More often I have misogynistic thoughts despite being a girl. You can experience these thoughts even about groups you are a part of.

Though even if they're for groups you aren't a part of: no, having these thoughts does not mean you actually think these things. You are not a monster and if people were to try to cancel you for this then they'd be incredibly ableist since these are outside of your control. and they're outside of my control too.

I've decided it'd be good to provide a source about these so that others who have or think they may have this kind of OCD can read up on it (the only things I've found so far on them have been specifically about racist intrusive thoughts though, not much about other bigotry, if anyone can find stuff on those feel free to add):

And for a final note, particularly for people without OCD:

I had my thoughts worsen a lot after someone pretty much accused me of being racist over something that in hindsight was kinda stupid (and that I would later realize due to another incident that it wasn't race-related at all to begin with). Please be careful with when you insinuate or accuse someone of being racist, don't throw those things around, you can severely harm someone mentally. If you're not part of the group it concerns, maybe ask someone of that group first before you speak on them.

Your queer identity is valid whether or not your family believes so!!! Your disability is valid even if your family does not think so!!!! And no one is allowed to comment on your body!!! Try extra hard to have a healthy relationship with the food you eat and your body this season!!!! Make sure you cut out specific time for your interests (especially if they are special interests!!!!) to help with the stress of the season!!!

It is so so so hard to deal with family members who put you down, who have different political or religious beliefs, family members with bigoted and harmful perspectives, or to not have any family at all especially around this time of year, so give yourself a break and recognize that it’s hard and you’re doing a great job!!!!

And remember that chosen/found family is just as, and probably even more so, valid as the family you were born into!!!!

The study group's boundaries are fucking wild though. Like this is my found family it consists of the people who happened to show up on the first day of our fake study group that one of us was using to try and have sex with another. That guy has assaulted several of us and kissed the 18 year old when he was like 35. It's fine we have fun. She has slammed his head on a table before. We also have the overzealous christian who is deeply intolerant towards everyone else's beliefs or lack thereof, and makes a lot of islamophobic and antisemitic comments. Yes in the same group with a muslim and a jewish girl. It's fine! At least she's not the sexist, racist, homophobic, ableist, bigoted in just about every way you can think of, manipulative old bastard there. What no he's part of our group too for some reason. Yes we have tried to kick him out multiple times. Whatever.

But we will not accept outsiders! We hate this guy Todd with his politeness and his children! We will not do a project with anyone else! I mean we're sort of on the fence about this guy who literally tried to blow up the school. And the Dean who is kind of inappropriate to us and sort of a stalker but whatever. They're on the margins of the group. Actually the most open to outsiders is probably the guy with Bad Social Skills Hates Change Disorder. He also tried to cut off another member's arm once. At least he says so none of us noticed. It's fine he's getting therapy from another group member. Yeah, therapy from his friend. No, she's not a licensed therapist. What's the matter don't you know how friendship works?

Artist intro for 2024! Decided for a more realistic approach.

Let's start with elaborating the text on screen:

I'm Emerson, or Ringo (cool name), but my persona and fursona is Poindexter, hence my username :3 My pronouns are he/him/his and not much else.

I'm eighteen (18) years old (my birthday is coming up though :D), and from western America, states such as Wyoming, Colorado, South Dakota, cowboy country :3

I'm a self-taught concept and comic artist, I have a fnaf (Five Nights at Freddy's) comic currently in the works and a creepypasta comic in the backrooms waiting to be worked on (my Kofi is linked to catch up to what's going on). I'm planning on going to college to be an art major, so looking forward to that.

The disabilities I listed are strictly my neurological conditions: autism, Tourette's, and a hearing impairment :3 I am mentally ill as well, having OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder) and possibly NPD (narcissistic personality disorder).

I have special interests in fnaf and creepypasta, and I've thought about them so hard for so long that they've turned into little pawns for my storytelling. I enjoy Legend of Zelda, TF2, and a little bit of Pokémon as well. They haven't quite reached the same level as my first two loves, but we'll see what happens.

And lastly, I am a bunnyboy. I enjoy bunnies, I relate to bunnies, my fursona is a rabbit, so therefore I am, a bunnyboy.

My flags are the trans flag, the aromantic flag, and the omnisexual flag, just also kinda in the middle of questioning my sexuality, pray for me.

It's probably beating a dead pig at this point, but I haven't seen anybody else mention this enemy in the game.

(Under a read more for antisemitism)

This enemy type called "Mr. Pinch" can be found in one of the later levels of the game, in the slum section. He hides in the upper portion of the screen to grab the player and fling them upward. He also pulls a coin out of their back pocket.

I don't think I need to pull up the direct references images, but this guy looks like an extremely antisemitic caricature. I've also seen the same said about the merchant npc "Mr. Sticks", but I think that design is a bit less egregious.

Its just that when you have TWO character designs that look this much like antisemitic cartoons, and their gameplay behavior is about money/greed, there's absolutely no way to wave that off as an accident or fluke. And especially after seeing so many of the creator's racist, misogynistic, ableist, and transphobic comments; I'm not willing to give him the benefit of the doubt on anything.

This whole thing is a huge bummer. I don't think that this situation is quite that same as Hogwarts Legacy, most people didn't go into it knowing anything about this guy's views, and the game had just come out about a month ago. A lot of folks were having fun and enjoying the positive aspects of the game like it's animation, gameplay and music. And aside from this enemy and the racist cheese slime, there isn't much within the game itself that comes across as negative. It's also really easy to miss how bad those enemies are when you're playing, I talked to some other people who had played and none of them had noticed Mr. Pinch's stealing animation. But, once you know about them, it can sour the whole experience.

I've seen a few different reactions to this situation, some people have talked about pirating the game and modding out/replacing the nasty elements, and I've seen other people who are going to stay away from anything remotely related to this game because the entire thing gives them a bad feeling now. I think those are both totally reasonable. But I'd say the barest minimum should probably be to not financially support this game anymore. Avoid buying the soundtrack, plushies, etc, and don't buy it on Steam if you hadn't yet.

“What do you mean when you say ‘New Age’?” I am specifically referring to forms of spirituality that revolve around the idea that the Earth is about to enter an actual new age, commonly referred to as the Age of Aquarius, Fifth Density, or Fifth Round. If a belief system doesn’t include this, it ain’t New Age, even if it did emerge in the 20th century, even if Barnes & Noble puts books on it on the New Age shelf. (A Wiccan can be a New Ager, but the idea of a new age not a central part of Wiccan beliefs.)

“Why are you so critical of New Age and starseeds?” The short answer is, it's a belief system built on white colonialism, Orientalism, eugenics, hateful conspiracy theories, and always has been.

”What do you think of reincarnation, in general?” I think it’s fine to believe in reincarnation so long as you don’t act like it gives you special knowledge or wisdom, or entitles you to tell other people what to do, or entitles you to appropriate and misrepresent other people’s cultures and spiritual traditions, or tie it in with a conspiracist worldview. (Starseeds do all of these.)

“What if I’m alienkin, or I believe my soul comes from another planet?” Nothing inherently wrong with that! The problem with the starseed movement is its politics - it’s founded on a bunch of racist, ableist, colonialist garbage. (It’s no coincidence that a number of starseeds are outright Nazis.)

“What if I want to call myself a starseed, though?” That’s like wanting to call yourself a Nazi. There is something deeply wrong with you if you do. “Why are you so critical of ancient aliens?” See Spencer McDaniel’s excellent post.

“Do you think it’s wrong to believe in alien life?” No, I just think it’s important to be critical of what you believe about it, and why you believe it. If you believe in aliens, question your assumptions about them. What are you projecting onto them? Why are you projecting that? Is that projection a bit self-centered, whether positively or negatively?

“Why are you so critical of conspiracy theories?” Simply put, because conspiracy theories are tools of reactionary violence. Most conspiracy theories are derived from The Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion, a known hoax created to demonize Jews and blame them for the world's problems while justifying a return to monarchy; or early modern witch panic and blood libel. BTW, I recommend Justin Sledge's video on the Satanic Panic. "But isn’t there a bunch of evidence?” 'Fraid not. All of it's either fabricated (EG, the aforementioned Protocols), taken out of context (EG, the Dendera “light”), extremely subjective (EG, someone’s mystical experience), based on absurd standards of what constitutes "evidence" (being a depressed teen who liked heavy metal and D&D was taken as a sure sign being involved in a satanic cult in the 80's and 90's), or produced through flawed methods (EG, so-called recovered memory therapy), or questioning vulnerable people until the interviewers or psychologists finally got what they wanted to hear. (If you want to get an idea of just how much of a mess this was, and just how unethical and irresponsible things could get, I recommend checking out the You're Wrong About podcast's episodes on Michelle Remembers.)

"Wait, do you have actual evidence that false memories exist?" Yep, you only have to peek in on the starseeds to see hundreds of 'em. See my posts hypnosis is unreliable for memory recovery, and this is one way we know and false past life memories among the starseed movement. You might also take a look at Abducted by Susan A. Clancy. Also read my post here’s the trouble with hypnotic regression for an explanation of why it's so easy to generate false memories.

“But aren’t starseeds part of ancient traditional beliefs?” Literally no one has been able to produce a single scrap of evidence that anything like the New Age concept of starseeds existed before the Victorian period. However, New Agers are well-known for bullshitting about the age and origins of their beliefs. If you’re going to assert that starseeds are genuinely part of some ancient tradition, you need to provide some real evidence.

The one thing white LGBTQ+ people/Harry Potter fans forget is that JK Rowling (and Harry Potter by extension) isn't just transphobic and homophobic. She, in her books, was also racist toward Black, East Asian and South Asian people, xenophobic, fatphobic, ableist, massively antisemitic and misogynistic. And she has never apologized for any of those things.

Yes, I did read the book as a kid. Yes, I do know what I'm talking about.

You want to support that series and/or that woman? That's fine. Know that when people from those groups don't want to hang out with you, that's your own doing.

Wandavision was racist as hell and the writing of Wanda in it in particular is racist, antisemitic, and ableist. They turned surviving a racist hate crime in the comics into being obsessed with racist American sitcoms for some reason. I don’t care how bad Loki was anything is better than that crime against humanity 🙏

Loki(2021) did actually have some weird like undertones, I believe. Like they introduce all of these bipoc characters and literally all of them are villains. Kang, Ravonna, Hunter B-15 for at least most of season 1. They also slightly mention Loki being bi to get praise and money from the queer community only to force him into a romantic relationship with a female version of himself from an alternate timeline

And it's even weirder when Loki is also confirmed to be genderfluid through the show but in the same season they make a joke ab how a female Loki is rare and terrifying. Like mf that was you Tuesday.

And I'm not at all trying to discredit your opinion on Wandavision because I also have major issues with how they've adapted her for the screen, but Wandavision isn't about praising old American sitcoms

The reason she loves them is because they were a comfort to her after she had lost everything. It's more ab healing from trauma via nostalgia which is very relatable to audiences. Also I would love to hear your opinion on how it's ableist if you wouldn't mind sending another ask explaining!!

(Also just last thing but if we're talking about mischaracterization Multiverse of Madness was SO much worse than Wandavision imo and was written by the guy who wrote Loki)

Rick Riordan is a cishet white goyische man. We knew this. But you can see this in his writing, no matter when. Yeah, he's grown, but he didn't grow astronomically.

In this post I'll be talking about how history, women, queer people, and POC are handled in Rick Riordan's YA novels. I'm Jew-ish, very queer, and was socialized as a girl, but I'm white so POC tell me if I overstep or get anything wrong and feel free to add!

Also this is long af, way longer than I intended, so under the cut it goes!

The Pact and Wars

I think I've talked about this before (cannot find the post) but the way history is handled is so racist and antisemitic. Wars are not because of their real reasons, but instead conflict. WWII is made to be because Hades, Zeus, Poisiedon, and their kids had another spat, instead of the fascism and racism that really caused it. The Civil War, instead of being about racism, was made to be about a fight between the romans and greeks. The wars we see in series have no connection to real world events, why couldn't the old ones be the same? It also deminshes the accomplishments of real people. For example, Harriet Tubman is said to be a daughter of Hermes. To me, this says a black disabled woman can't do great things without great blood in a world where that exists

Annabeth

Annabeth is a girl boss, and this would be great, if her writer wasn't a cishet man. Being strong is equated to being mean, physically and verbally. When she thinks Rachel likes Percy, a guy she isn't even dating, she gets pissy at them for even hanging out! She constantly demeans Percy and hits people who anger her, including Percy, and this is treated as cute and quirky. And then her trauma is dismissed and diminished by a boy who went through similar treatment. Sorry Percy also was hurt by who his author is, but it makes things worse with Annabeth's portrayal. Also she once says people don't take her seriously because she's blonde. During HoO. With Piper and Hazel right there

The Hunters

The Hunters of Artemis, in mythology, are a group of women and sometimes men who joined Artemis to escape the deeply misogynistic culture at the time, and there are sapphic undertones to much of their myths! In the books, they're portrayed as man hating, romance hating, and functionally aroace. Hippolytus is completely ignored. Zoë is constantly talking down to Percy without giving him a chance and makes probably the dumbest decision by choosing Bianca for the quest in Titan's Course. Jo and Emmie were kicked out for finding love. I'm aroace. I love aroace rep. I'm overly weary of (cis white) men. But the way the Hunters are written is so similar to how angry anti-SJW youtube saw feminists

Nico

Nico is forcibly outed in one book and in the next gets a boyfriend with literally no personality or relationship with him up to that point. The drawbacks of shadow travel so clearly align with disability. He's also obviously depressed and deeply traumatized. Yet Will gives him no medical autonomy, something we disabled folk have to deal with all the time that's really very ableist. I love Nico, but the way he's portrayed just isn't great

Sadie and Carter

Sadie and Carter are biracial and look wildly different. This is good representation from what I've heard, but not how it's different or some incidental stuff. Carter, the boy, has dark skin and dark, coily hair, while Sadie, the girl, has pale skin, striaght blond hair, and pale eyes. This plays into colorism where darker people are seen as more masculine, as does Carver being the host to the god of war. Sadie is also a young girl who's put into a relationship with a god who kinda bullied her at the start. Carver is also in a relationship with a person who was hostile, but she gets better so I'll let is slide

Leo

Leo is latino, and stereotypical at that. Je is constantly flirting with everyone and looked down upon. As a Leo who is not an astronomical Leo, he deserves better especially when you consider c//leo

Piper

"I'm not like other girls" girl who's hailed as absolutely gorgeous. She was born on a rez that didn't exist at the time which just goes to show the lack of research. Her eyes are kaleidoscope, which is a trait none of her siblings, or her mom, have. She's cut off from her culture enough to not know the significance of feathers but has plenty of memories of her grandfather who lived on the rez. Also, she's a cleptomaniac. I love Piper, I like how she's representation for a person who was cut off from her culture and longs to know it despite living with her bio family because I and a few friends are the same, but Piper is still a stereotype. I also feel like the veganism plays into the whole spiritual nature stereotype, but I'm not sure so don't quote me

Frank

The only confirmed greco-roman demigod without dyslexia is also East Asian. I think the stereotyping is obvious it doesn't help that the only two Asian characters before him, Ethan and Drew, were antagonists. He was infantalized while fat and then had a magic glow up for... no reason, really, but that matters less here. Also he's dating a seventh grader as a tenth grader basically and I'm trying to not spoil stuff but the end of the Tyrant's Tomb is bullshit from a lore perspective imo

Hazel

She's a black girl whose parents both had very dark eyes and hair, yet her eyes are gold and her hair is paler than her skin, and both of those last two are described as looking like foods. Again, she is the age of a 7th grader. See Frank. And this may be the fandom's fault, but it seems she's always either infantalized or adultified from what I've seen

Will

All we know about Will Solace in BoO is that he's attracted to men and a medic son of Apollo. I bet you didn't remember he was at the Battle of Manhattan or that he's counselor because all his siblings died. And that's a lot of kids. Also he calls Nico nicknames he doesn't like. See Nico for further criticism of Will

Alex

Alex is called the adjective form of a slur multiple times. I could talk about how the grammar of that sucks, but *gesturs vaguely.* She gets transphobia from nearly everyone and disowned. I thought fantasy was supposed to be escapist, personally

Other stuff

Samirah is a hijabi, but we see under her scarf at least once and that feels really disrespectful, especially considering how observant she is of other stuff. Only women or close family (brothers, direct descendants, or direct ancestors) can see a hijabi's hair. Even if Magnus, Hearth, and Blitz are like family that usually isn't enough. She should have gotten a regular valkyrie's cloak imo. Some stuff feels off about Hearth but I'm not D/deaf so I'll hold my tongue on that as I'm not sure. Lavinia could use more yiddishisms in her speech and I'm curious to know what sect she was if her rabbi wasn't cool with her being a lesbian, but they do exist so *shrug.* There's probably something I missed with Reyna and Hylla, I feel like there is, but I can't remeber so it just gets an honorary mention
