I know everyone wants stories with happy endings, and they all hate when the main characters die, and insist well what's the point of the story then, it didn't matter at all! they died!
but.
I don't know. do the stories of those who die at the end not matter at all?
because if that's the case, I have news about the stories told by everyone who has ever lived in this world.
we all die at the end. we are all doomed by the narrative.
but our stories still matter.

jonah's insistance that everything he does is of his own accord and that he's in complete control of his actions vs. his literal role in the universe. as the eye's prophet and acolyte. did you want to do it, or did your god want you to do it. is there a difference, if the only thing you truly want is to serve your god. are your wants the same as its, by definition. how much free will can any avatar at all have. sure, you can stop any second you want, but what's even left of you without this. you say you want to do this, because if you don't, then all of this has been for nothing. you have to want this. were you silent or were you silenced. ykwim.

I'm a Lucy Carlyle defender (how many posts have I started with that exact sentence) but less in a "she's never done anything wrong in her life" way and more of a "this is a female character who was written with full agency to respond realistically and behave accordingly in regards to her age, maturity level, and environment, which includes being allowed to respond negatively to circumstances that don't necessarily warrant a negative response, and we need more female characters written like this" way.
The important thing about beloved Lucy Carlyle is that she's allowed to make bad choices but she is not vilified for them. And she's allowed to come back from them and try to make things better, even if it takes her a little while to get there. She's also just allowed to make choices in general, good or bad.
She's allowed to be angry. She's allowed to be scared. She's allowed to be snarky. She's allowed to be sad. She's allowed to be defensive. She's allowed to be sentimental. She's allowed to behave the exact way a real person would in her circumstances. She's allowed to have emotional agency. She's not written to fulfill a trope or a fantasy. She's a whole person.
And we need more characters like her.

I'm not the first person to have said any of these things individually nor am I the first to string them together but wow. P2 really is the most fanfiction, heavy-handed symbolism ever.
Around 09, shortly pre-hiatus, when Patrick dropped a lot of weight and Pete buzzed his head. How they reverted back to how they looked before they knew each other. Patrick leaving behind hats and Pete letting his hair go natural for an extended period for the first time in a long time. And then Patrick goes bleach blond and starts wearing colorful 3 piece suits and trying to reinvent his image. Reinvent himself altogether. All in all he wasn't even blond a year. And now when you ask him about it he gets all "I don't even know what I was doing with that, haha".
And when they come back together, they're P2 again. Patrick's wardrobe more preppy and less timeless, Pete dyes his hair again. And of course the hats are back; Pete gave him the hat on the cover of tttyg. He used them to hide from the crowds. It's not Fall Out Boy without hats.
And now Pete has straightened, dyed hair again and Patrick has gained weight, this time not a result of a bad breakup but growing older. It's happy weight. Weight without guilt. Something about trying to escape your legacy, having to shape it and embrace it. I'll never be me without you.

if you compare the lokius pie room scene to the sylvie and loki pie room scene the vibes are so different and yes you can say the stakes are higher in episode 4 and yet they could have made loki softer like i know tom hiddleston can make his eyes glisten with unshed tears and get that desperate tone in his voice as loki when he wants someone he likes to be on his side and yet he was calm and collected sort of the complete opposite of his scenes with sylvie in season one where he seemed to be one step behind her like to me there was 0% tension in the room
like they could have ended the scene like this

but they didn't

I like to see Aziraphale and Crowley make love, but that’s because I’m human and this is the closest my little mind can get to the idea of what a divine union looks like.
I can’t quite imagine what it must be like to have your angelic bodies intertwine and flow into each other, but if I could, I’d imagine them doing that just as much.

I guess brainrot over the idea of an ineffable husbands style tensimm kiss won't let me sleep so.
I think, leaving aside the general collective unconscious and David Tennant in a telepathic mode of transport, the main reason the dynamic hit as so similar is this kind of. Absolute versus relational morality? I mean, this is what's on the deepest level, because the most apparent aspect is the idea that one of these semi immortal entities believes the other can be kind of restored to the state of goodness? And not just this person specifically, I think Aziraphale in general and the Doctor mainly as Twelve tbh just have this worldview where good is somehow definite and in a way natural for the universe? Oh yes, Twelve will be making speeches about whether he's a good man but the very asking of such a question implies "good man" is something definite, something that one can be. And oh yes there may be villains and monsters but you know if we all just sat down and talked then sure everything could be figured out. And this is more obvious than ever in his attitude towards Missy, where y'know. She just never heard the music. Whatever that metaphor means. Just as Aziraphale assumes Crowley can just be restored to the angelic status, because sure it was just a misunderstanding right he means he's not actually evil right? In a sense, pre-time angelicness and childhood are parallel in that they both assume a mind that hasn't developed individuality yet and I guess this is why Moffat is obsessed with throwing children at the audience 24/7.
And I find it fascinating that where everyone sees Aziraphale is wrong (or, indeed just needs to figure out Heaven is evil), Twelve's clockwork orange vault is generally hailed as reaching out to the truth behind the Master that Missy got closer to than any regeneration we've seen. For some reason, because sure as hell not because of anything that happened in EOT. And that's writing for you: if it's intelligent enough you'll look at something fundamentally similar and see completely different things.
Now, Crowley and the Master have more relational relational ethics - and relational is not the same as relative. And sure as hell don't think the universe or any individual will "naturally" veer towards good. In fact, they're both pretty cynical about, at least human, nature. Difference is Crowley needs to get drunk from Spanish inquisition, while the Master thoroughly enjoys letting future humans go murder their ancestors for fun. I mean, Missy even calls the Doctor out for his absolute and sentimental idea of good, except that's framed as her being in the wrong. And then there's the whole "Paradise. You've destroyed paradise! - They were lazy. I made them hungry" exchange between War and Saxon Masters in Masterful. Serpent in Eden, anyone?
And I think that this is why tensimm give off those vibes that they were closer to understanding each other than ever before. Obviously, the moral divide is still there, as it has to be, but I think Ten, especially in EOT, is more aware of how easily one can slip into a vengeful god, and all this to SAVE someone, than ever before. So while the moral divide is arguably widest it's ever been, the perceptual differences between the Doctor and the Master are almost gone in those episodes. And I suppose the metaphor of the Doctor hearing the drums is pretty pertinent here.
Now, before there's any accusation of moral nihilism on my part - no, there isn't. I specifically wrote of moral relationality not relativism. An action or attitude can be good or evil, the thing is that every individual exists in a net of their relations to others that they can't get out of through spontaneous epiphany. And at the same time the idea of absolute good is necessary, precisely because the general momentum is towards... the opposite. At the same time, there is nothing vile that hasn't been done in the name of higher good. Again, dialectics.
Which is why I say the Master (the Simm!Master, reduced as he was) fell where he stood no less that the Doctor in season 10. Like, this absolutely wasn't the intended point and I still say the mutual suicide was peak contrivance, but. work's intent. And all of this goes back to platonists vs. sophists, you know.
So anyway, it's still Ten that desperately grabs Saxon's lapels and kisses him in hopes of making him stay where they can be happy together.

the life expectancy is getting longer and longer. dw is a sci-fi. both in reality and fiction we wish for a long life in good health, quality and dignity. just checked, average life expectancy in the uk is over 80 years, and 1. it's been rising for years; 2. we need to remember that it's 'average'. (yep, that demographic would lead to working longer but it's a topic for a different time.) there are and will be even more advanced technology and medicine. yes, we cannot cure some things right now but who knows what remedies we will have in 20, 50, 100, 250 years?
and jack harkness comes from 3000 years into the future. am i that mistaken to assume that life expectancy could be much longer in the 51st century? for example, idk, 200 years? (and even if i am, it's sci-fi and my headcanon.) (not that this man would ever live to that age, not with his life-style.) what i'm saying is, maybe being 180 isn't that weird for people from that time period, weird is not aging a day. oh, and not-dying over 1000 times. that for sure.

in the season 5 apocalypse, mike gets injured, and will takes care of mike's wounds. the typical after-action patch-up trope takes place. will told mike in season 4 "if she was going to lose you, i think she'd rather just get it over with it quickly, like ripping off a bandaid" but instead right now will wraps the bandaid AROUND MIKE

so when the curious cat tried to enter ruby's body, they tried going through her chest, probably (most likely) where here heart is because that's what's broken about her (metaphorically). in neo's case, not only were they alluding towards her losing torchwick when they said "you've lost something too", but also to her voice, that's why they tried to go in through her mouth...

RePost oops someone asked how fern donked up his friendship with leo but I accidentally deleted..ANYWAYS
So letsss just pretend this is an episode after the whole element thing and after and WHY they became close friends- but also this takes place before fern tries replacing finn
Tilecard
Tumblr media
Sooo basically it starts off with fern and leo just chillin but then leo gots to use the bathroom so he leaves rq
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Suddenly Shelby pops out of ferns hat like he's like "dude. It's so obvious you like him" his reasoning is cuz of how close they are and how he's noticed while he's been in his hat. HEAR ME OUT THO ITS NOT A SHIP. I kinda don't like it when people ship their oca with cannon cuz unless it actually has logic. BUT since fern is like, his own person, he himself doesn't really understand it the only "knowledge" of romance is finns memories. So he just goes along with it along with it but still kinda confused. It's like that one reallllyyy old episode when finn was trying to make Pb jealous by hanging out with marcy you gotta watch it to understand. Anyways fern is like "ok, help me out then!!" But then leo comes back, so this time he's nervousish and just says he's gonna go out by himself. When he's alone with Shelby again tho he tells fern sometime like.. "you should tots confess in song form. It'll totally wow him" so just like uh ok. Then theres a lil montage of Shelby being his wingman. So when the time comes, for whatever reason fern invites other peeps but since it's fern so he's not finn popular so it's just a bunch of boring npcs
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anyways when leo shows up fern preforms and it's just really bad over all his words are mumble jumble and leo was NOT expecting this at all. Like imagine a friend your really close to you just confesses to you PLUs in a weird way infront of other people.
Tumblr media
After fern is done leo just stands there and the audience doesn't help. It's dead ass silent until some npc shouts "say yes!' And normally when some npc does something like that in a serious situation it's ignored, but that just does it for leo.since He personally doesn't like all the attention and the pressure so he just runs off in the forest. Ppl are like boo I wasted my time and they all just disappear.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fern at first just stands there until he comes to realization. He didnt even like leo in that way. Their whole friendship was platonic but Shelby saw/thought it in a different way, so that's also his fault.
Tumblr media
Anyways this is how the episode would end after all that LOL

can’t stop thinking about how we actually have scenes of izzy “managing ed’s moods” canonically. makes ya think! also how when ed was trying to keep izzy there in s1 he said “you were right about it, man. all of it.” like we all thought izzy was exaggerating or something (well, not all of us, but i felt i should concede some points to ppl criticizing izzy because we didn’t have proof) or he thought he was doing that and yet was clearly shit at it if he was (which is still true because i bet ed might have been more receptive to “talking it through” before, — but who’s to say? ed could have begun to have that rhetoric and that personality shift upon meeting and talking to stede, and it’s possible even if izzy had known to use it before, it would have gotten shut down by ed immediately).
i wanna know if this is closer to how izzy was before stede, or if stede’s management style changed him, if the crew developed a relationship with him to an extent and made him more receptive to talking it out, or if he saw the benefits it did before, or (most likely to me) he’s grasping at anything different because nothing else has worked. i do have a feeling we are gonna be getting more Kraken flashbacks so hopefully we can see which happened.

Listennn Eret and Wilbur are the only ones that can understand each other's desire for redemption while also remembering the pain of the other's betrayal AND DESPITE THAT PAIN THEY BOTH DECIDE TO FORGIVE EACH OTHER
Because they both know exactly how it feels to want to be redeemed but not know if they deserve to be, and by forgiving each other they essentially said "you deserve redemption" and that must have brought the both of them so much solace and relief. I'm gonna cry
