Okay... ABOUT The Woman King...
This is just my yelling into the void about internet stupidity, the gullibility of black folks, falling for and proliferating Nazi-ass propaganda... etc. etc... So, I'll keep this short.
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
I LOVE sword and sandal movies. When I hear that Persian woman singing on the soundtrack (you know the one) and see muscle men wearing some sandals with a short sword in hand, I snuggle into the couch with a snack and await a good-ass hero's journey and some chopped heads... I'm also AWARE of the fact that pretty much every powerful culture we observe through an entertainment lens, espec. back in those days (and those fantasy inspired narratives too), was actually involved in some cultural genocide, enslavement, subjugation, misogyny, and much much more... I'm grown enough and just plain have enough regular-ass logic to be able to seperate those facts from the media (FICTIONAL MEDIA AT THAT! hun what you think based upon mean?!) NOW, that black women are centered I see them Nazi fucks, Hotep-head-ass bm, and bw pick-mes not reading the fact that none of these "here's the real evil behind the fictional movie." takes, never happened for the all those other movies... in which black woman did not star and weren't centered. Really, think about how weird and actually sad in a Mean Girls "Why are you so obsessed w/ us?" way that these weak-ass Nazi bitches are basically keeping a burn-book about black women's stuff... Black women stuff... In other words, you got to go out of your way, which is the majority, to insert yourself into what you see as a niche to just hate on it. ...Imagine the energy? It's like having every flavor of ice cream known to man in your possession. catered to your tastes... only to walk your ass across the street and down the block, with that melting cone of ice cream (of which is always available to you) that is your favorite flavor. .. to knock that one cone that somebody else is holding to the ground, a flavor you don't even like, and wasn't planning on eating, just because. You know how weird it would be if black women were making bots, and spreading disinformation about Northman?? Like... we didn't because we. don't. give afUUUUUU.... So why do they??? Weirdos. Anyway. The Woman King kicks ass, block or report all the obsessed ass haters and gulliables.

Yandere Self Aware Hades (Hades 2018)
Tumblr media
So I'm about 5~8 completed escapes in, so please don't spoil anything for much later into the game. If you're worried, please just label your request as potential spoilers when sending them in.
Also this is written from the perspective of the characters, not you the player, so they're rationalizing you as some sort of omnipresence.
masterlist
---
Zagreus first felt you when his escape attempts started, leaving the house for the first time in a mad dash, feeling something deep pulse beneath him that was even greater than the deep beating of his heart. It was harsh, and strange, but warm and welcoming. At first, he didn't know what to do, accept the feeling and move on, or reject in, and suffer the unknown consequences.
But, strangely, you gave him a feeling of strength, even after he was brought down time and time again by his father henchmen, the feeling never went away. And eventually, he excepted you, and recognized you as something deeper. You weren't just a feeling, you were a companion of sorts, like his distant relatives, you were there, aiding him on his journey, and he couldn't be more thankful.
HIs feelings started off small, but grew as he felt you more and more within him. He began to crave your presence, despising anytime when you weren't there with him. Eventually, he began to notice when he'd be most likely to feel you, waiting patiently for you so he could attempt to escape once more, when he's at his strongest.
You must've been rubbing off onto his relatives, because slowly but surely, they began to notice you as well. Whenever Zagreus would pick up a boon, they would mention feeling something stirring within him, fueling his escape attempts. Depending on who it was, their words were more or less straight forward, but it wasn't like Zagreus could explain anything to them. Deep down, he wished he could've kept you to himself sooner, but the Gods were smart, so there was no hiding you from them.
And Zagreus soon came to learn that their was no hiding you from the others of the house, whether it was Orpheus, Achilles, or even his father, they all began to notice something change with him. Achilles was the first to bring this up with the prince, asking him who he was talking to when coming out of the pool of styx. Zagreus didn't have the heart to lie to Achilles, as spoke about you for the first time. For some reason, this made you more real to Zagreus, and in a way, solidified your fate as an obsession to Zagreus.
Zagreus often found himself wondering who you were, and his wondering often escaped his mind and exited his mouth, making him wonder if you could somehow hear him. He speaks to you often, mostly during escape attempts, but gets no hint that you are responding, making him wonder if his attempts are in vain. But he's reminded of his relatives, who are only able to sense a small bit of him, his presence growing stronger as he gets closer to the surface. Maybe, in a way, you're the same, maybe he could find you on the surface. That becomes his next goal in an instant. Find his mother, and then find you and thank you for the strength you've given him.
This isn't all to say that Zagreus is the only one seeking you out. The Gods upon Olympus are very curious about you, how you're able to make contact with their distant relative and leave very little of a trace. It's fascinating, but currently, with Zagreus tied to that horrible realm, there is no way of figuring anything else about you. Their only hope is to attempt to contact you through Zagreus, mentioning you when he picks up a boon. It's not much, but it's their only hope.
The people of the house also become interested in you. Some, like Megaera and Thanatos are more weary of you, believing you are something attempting to manipulate Zagreus, even though nothing of the sort has proven to be so. Others, like Orpheus and Hypnos are more welcoming to you, asking many questions to both Zagreus and you directly.
Even Chaos, the oldest being known to all mankind, is curious of your presence. They can sense something in you, something they're not even sure Zagreus is even aware of. It's funny, in a way, watching the Son of Hades attempt to find you, figure out who are, only for you to not be of this world. They wonders how long it'll take for him to dive himself mad from obsession, and it if it's already completely consumed him.
Once Hades gained awareness of you, he attempted to snuff you out from his son's mind. He thought you were a distraction, fueling his son's frivolous attempts at escaping his realm. He realized it wasn't going to be easy, nothing was easy with his stubborn son. But he hoped that if he was able to rid you from Zagreus's mind, that he'd forget about his hopeless quest of finding his mother.
However, eventually Zagreus slays his father, leaving his realm and entering into the cold, strange land of Greece, were he's able to find his mother, Persephone, but there were no signs of you. He could feel you as he entered his mother's hidden abode, but he knew you were no where to be found. And as he collapsed and reentered his home from the pool of styx once more, he knew he would have to continue his journey. He felt you, you were real, and he would die over and over and over again if it meant that one day he'd ba able to find you.
---
A/n: don't wonder how I got this out so fast, this has been boiling within me for so long. I really hope you enjoy it.

I just tried watching Troy (2004) and the heterosexuality is killing me.What are your thoughts on it?
personally I don't have much opinions on uhh their sexualities? Like how it's portrayed? If people want to say they're only friends, that's a valid take! A deep friendship between two men isn't any less than a romance. If people wanna say that they're clearly partners, that's also a valid take. I don't think the ancient greeks have the same concept of sexuality and gender and labels that we do, so any term we call them will be a little wrong. I personally like thinking they're both partners romantically, but it wasn't the whole them being straight thing that threw me off. I just kinda wondered why Patroclus felt so,, uh. unimportant? if that makes sense. I didn't really feel much when he died jfgkhfdjkl and he was mostly sidelined throughout the movie. And so when achilles loses it over his death, I'm not there with him, because I don't feel his grief either.
Also it's been a bit since I watched but iirc there were no gods at all? which yeah you can do that, but it made a lot of things that they do kind of confusing ahvgdkf

A lot of people are a little bit confused and pissed because of russingon being such a popular ship and how much content there is of them and as a russingon shipper I totally understand that and I get that that can be annoying towards people who do not ship them. However, I still want you guys to understand why there are so many people shipping it, because there are genuine reasons. First of all, a ship cannot get popular out of nowwhere. There has to be some kind of connection towards canon, or else it wouldn't get shipped so much.
The reason for so many people shipping russingon is the (very subtle) queer subtext. And I know a few people would probably argue me on this, but i am queer and I am partly experienced in this matter. So. Well not much but i've been injesting alot of homoerotic (and not homoerotic) politics and queer media into my brain. Like, A LOT.
YES, russingon CAN be read as queer subtext and YES, they CAN be gay. "Can" because of how you interpret it. You could read it as deep platonic friendship love and be valid, but you could also read it as romantic love and still be valid.
Now, you're probably thinking "well what do you mean with queer subtext you trans gayboy?". Let me make a scenerio for you.
Imagine there exists this ginger maiden called Nelyamiriel. Her father and her siblings go on this little cruise across the ocean. They arrive on this silly little shore called losgar. Suddenly, she asks her father when they're gonna send the ships back so this cryptid dude called Fingon, Nolofinwes son, some random guy you've heard like one time before, can cross the ocean safely. You stare at the page, utterly confused, asking yourself why she's being so specific. What does her madman of a father do? He cackles and talks like a sick man. What does she do? She does not burn the ships and is the ONLY one of her siblings not doing what her father is doing. This is where you probably already get suspicious. I would not get suspicious. You know why? Because i'm queer, i believe girls and boys can be friends without sexual tension and i'm setting a straight scenario in your mind so straight people would try to understand what i'm trying to say here.
You know what happens then? She gets kidnapped by this evil god as the only survivor and spends thirty years getting tormented there. Meanwhile, the cryptid guy mentioned before and his family arrive at the shores of middle earth. What is the first thing (well not exactly the first thing, but close) the cryptid guy does when he arrives there? He randomly leaves without telling a single fucking soul he's leaving and where he is going without a single other person following him with only a harp and maybe a sword. Where is he going? He's going to rescue the fair ginger maiden princess/queen out of the grasp of the evil god, which is a nearly impossable, incredibly difficult and dangerous task to do.
WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT.
One method of queer subtext is genderswap. Make one of them a girl, do they still seem like they're only friends in the story or is it now obvious the story is trying to tell you something?
And this is not the only occasion where you can read Maedhros and Fingon as queer subtext. Fingon not only rescued him one time, but two times (Glaurung). In some canons (one?) he slayed at Alqualonde just because of Maedhros and dragged his whole family along with him. Then, again, the resemblance with Achilles and Patroclus and with Luthien and Beren. The fact that everything went downhill for Maedhros after Fingon died, like all his hope (SPOILER ALARM! FINGON WAS HIS HOPE!) was drenched out of him like water out of a sponge (*cough* Achilles *cough*). Again, this can all be read as platonic love, but since when has anyone ever seen Rapunzel and the guy who rescued her i forgot his name as platonic besties? (Okay that was a bad example but you know what mean)
Anyway wasn't trying to attack anyone here i was just trying to explain why so many people ship russingon (It can be read as queer subtext. Thats why) and seriously its like 1 am in my country what am i doing
Also sorry for bad grammar if there is any. im german. fuck me (Blitzo quote. I dont want you to fuck me)

8 for Can I Have This Dance
2 Which scene was your favorite to write in I Need Comfort (But I Hate Being Comfortable)
Thank you for the ask dear!
1. Of the fics you’ve written, which is your favourite and why?
Honestly the fic I'm the proudest of is not an RWRB fic, it's a shadowhunters/malec song fic: Achilles Come Down
My best works and best creativities come from me projecting myself and putting my actual feelings into the fic. What happened with this fic is I had a really shitty day, went out for a run while listening to Achilles Come Down, thought of the fic and proceeded to dump all my feelings, spend the next entire day writing the fic, finishing it within 24 hours. Till this day I think it's the best thing I've ever written, ever.
But for RWRB, I'm gonna say I’d Hang the Moon for It to Shine on Him Sleeping. It's also partially me venting through both Henry and Catherine, but there's also this part where I wish we could see more or less what I wrote on screen, hopefully in the sequel. Writing in Catherine's pov was really fun. I'm really proud of that one.
2. Which scene was your favourite to write in I Need Comfort (But I Hate Being Comfortable)?
Oh, this was pure vent and very raw. I was going through a depressive episode those couple of days, so I kind of wrote down what I did for Henry and copied a couple of lines from my own diary for Henry's inner monologue. So my favourite scene to write was actually taking what's my own feelings and reframing it to fit Henry's narrative. So this part:
He’s kind of frustrated at himself. He’s in a much better place than he was in the past: he’s away from the palace, he’s writing his own book, he has a boyfriend who he loves and who loves him. It’s what he always wanted, he’s what he thought he would never get. The constant fear and despair of hiding his sexuality for his entire life, the thought of pretending to be straight and getting married to some noblewoman, the feeling that he doesn’t fit in the space, the dread that sticks to his skin and dyes his blood a dull shade of black like some toxic, viscous tar, that’s truly gone for good.
I'm kind of happy something so negative inside me can be translated into some sort of creative outlet.
8. Which scenes did you cut, and which were added in Can I Have This Dance?
I'm not sure if this counts as cutting because I didn't actually write it, but I considered putting the Paris scene for the first section instead of DNC night, but 1, I ended up deciding I wanted actual dancing, in the traditional sense of the word 2, I wasn't really ready to write smut at the time and felt like Paris was too heavy for me just to stuff it as a quarter of a fic. So I wrote DNC instead.
As for what scene was added, Alex and Henry dancing to their playlist was a later decision. I initially kind of just thought of them slow dancing in the kitchen or something, but then I remembered that playlist exist and added it in.

He doesn't know how long he's been here. It could be days, weeks, months, or even years; time seems to pass by in a blur, like a train ride. Only Malleus wasn't on it. He was simply watching the train with blank stares and a hazy fog over his mind, baring him from thinking straight.
Malleus stares from his spot on Ramshackle's shabby roof, staring aimlessly into the faraway distance of Night Raven College. His arm is fisted; his sharp nails could almost cut crescent scars into his hands. His bottom stings from the rough edges of the rubble and decaying thorny vibes embracing Ramshackle's rooftop. Still, Malleus doesn't falter.
"I thought I might find you here."
Malleus ignores his guardian who grunts as he takes a seat next to Malleus. Lilia sighs and too, joins Malleus in staring at the slowly setting sun. It painted the skies in shades of cerulean blue, coral orange, neon pink, like a mini rainbow against the calm, light blue sky.
They were in a sort of silence, in between awkward and comfortable. Neither party wanted to break the peaceful ambiance, too afraid that once they broke the bubble, there would be no more turning back.
"Lilia," Malleus finally croaks out, not realizing how parched his throat was from weeks of radio silence. He stands up, unafraid of the cracks and holes that slowly began to rupture, like a spiderweb slowly unfolding. "Do you truly not notice?"
Lilia sighs, his youthful face finally matching his age. "I noticed, young Malleus. The lack of magic. You were always quite reckless. Impulsive."
Malleus hums.
"You always knew my next step. But, do you truly not notice?"
Lilia stands up as well, holding out a hand to Malleus.
"Malleus, come down. Ramshackle isn't safe-"
"-Of course it is!" He cuts him, too lost in his memories. "The many dawns and dusks I have spent with my lover, wandering across the roofs and admiring the gargoyles; the roof is nothing but sturdy!"
"That was years ago, Malleus," Lilia looks at him pleadingly. "Malleus, come down. We can talk when you're level-headed, more sensible."
Slowly, but surely, a chuckle escapes Malleus's lips. Lilia stares at him, frozen, as Malleus steps backward, laughing madly.
"They left me," He finally speaks. "My lover, my treasure, my reason to live, they left me! Why should I continue living this miserable, wretched life without them?"
Lilia stares at him with such pitiful eyes.
"They no longer exist in this realm," Malleus hissed out. "I cannot feel their soul anymore. It used to linger everywhere; the corners where we giggled and hid from Sebek and Silver, the bedroom where we would slumber hours after the rising sun, the memories and jewelry they gave to me with that beautiful smile on their face."
His face crumbles. "But time passed on. Their essence seem to fade with each passing day. Do you know how much it pains me? To be immortal, to watch as the world caves in around me?!"
Lilia opens his mouth to speak but Malleus shook his head.
"What do you know? You never experienced love."
"You think I don't?" Lilia hissed out. "I lost countless friends and comrades in the war, Malleus. Don't think that you can talk me down like this, I am your guardian-"
"YOU DON'T KNOW HOW IT FEELS!" Malleus cries out. He thumps a hand over his heart. "Do you know how much my heart shattered? I had to watch as my lover die in front of my eyes. The shield and wall gluing my heart together broke, my heart falling into a million pieces, and I could do nothing but watch as the light fades out of your eyes."
He steps forward, towering over Lilia's petite frame. Lilia could see something change, something absolute settle in Malleus's emerald irises before the fae heir chuckles bitterly.
"If I can't have them in this life," Malleus raises his foot and Lilia was frozen. Of course, how could he not realize? This area was the center of the roof, the area with the least stability. "I will find them in the next. Whatever it takes."
He stomps his foot down, shattering the roof. Lilia instinctively floats himself but was too late. A desperate cry tear out from his lips as he tries to catch Malleus, but doesn't succeed. His fingers brush lightly before Malleus escapes his reach.
"MALLEUS!"
Malleus Draconia falls; a minuscule smile on his lips as he falls in slow-motion. Around him, Ramshackle crumbles, ashes falling and creating a halo around the fallen heir. He feels agonizing pain flaring in his abdomen, hazing eyes staring at the shard that pierced his flesh and bone. Crimson blood spurts from the wound; it felt like an inferno or lava burning him from the inside out.
He laughs weakly.
'How ironic,' Malleus thinks to himself. He faintly remembers one of the fairytales you told him about, back in your world. Back when the days were lighter, more enjoyable, time having not ripped you from his hands yet. 'Oh how the tables have turned.'
"When the princess dragon fae pricks herself himself on an enchanted needle, she he shall be cursed to fall asleep. Forever."

Hi!!! I have a few questions about Arsenic Blues! Love your work btw!
1) In regards to the Dead Dove tag, how much gore will there be?
Personally, I’m perfectly fine with the psychological triggers you mentioned, but for some reason blood and intestines makes me squeamish. Will there be a lot of in your face gore in your tic?
2) How much canon divergence can we expect, from canon compliant to mostly canon compliant, to full on divergence? And can we please have that in tag form on ao3?
3) Percy will be keeping the Achilles curse right? Because I feel like she will 100% die without it.
4) In regards to timeline, first ragnarok then Hoo right? How are you planning on implementing ragnarok when it’s not finished in canon?
I’m so scared about this one because I really really like the Einherjar, ESPECIALLY Adam and Sasaki. I’m so scared for them!!!!
5) Will the pjoverse be given some well deserved revenge? Because you mentioned that Percy will be brought back to Valhalla after HOO, which feels like: “Hurry up and save our world!” Then “Now that the world is saved we don’t need you anymore. Whether you’re killed, graped we don’t give a shit.”
6) I know that in Arc 4 ror!gods react to pjo!verse, but will there be a pjo!gods react to ror!gods?
All I know is the pjo!Hera and pjo!Dionysus/Bacchus may not be alive past arc 4…
7) What will ror!Apollo’s reaction be to his technical children? Had it been Kayla or Will that got sent to Valhalla instead of Percy, what would he have done? What would his reaction be to pjo!Apollo’s punishment in ToA?
8) Will there be other pjo characters that are (forcibly) moved from the pjo verse to ror verse?
Percy’s gonna need some form of emotional support.
With the empathy link between Grover and Percy, Poseidon will not allow Grover to die, even if he hates his existence, so him and maybe Juniper move to Valhalla?
A possible non-consensual mass adoption of the Camp Half-Blood children? I don’t know what Hermes ‘ reaction will be, Aphrodite would be disgusted by half-lings and Athena just straight up wouldn’t care… But as Halfs their ascension is guaranteed to succeed.
Hazel and Nico will most definitely be adopted, and maybe the Ares and Apollo cabin as well…
the dead dove tag isn't just for gore. it's basically a warning to take the other warning tags seriously. for example, i tagged it as incest. if you see incest + dead dove, that means the incest won't be subtle or implied, it's right in your face and in detail. the same goes for any warning tag that's also tagged with dead dove
i'll be planning to change A LOT of what happens during the ragnarok fights. i didn't realize i forgot to tag 'canon divergence' tho whoops
yes she'll have it when she's in ror, but it'll be removed in hoo
yeah it's ragnarok then hoo. i plan to just skim through some fights and just focus on the important ones. as for the ones that haven't been introduced in canon, i'll be skimming through those too 💀
that's not why percy is going back to ror verse (i'd explain, but spoilers)
nope!
apollo is one of the kinder yanderes, so he would accept the kids and naturally come to care for them after some time. as for the punishment, he'd think pjo!zeus was foolish. pjo!apollo was punished he encouraged octavian and "revealed the prophecy too soon" and thus "sped up the war". the first one was dumb, yeah, but the second isn't pjo!apollo's fault. he was MEANT to reveal the prophecy soon, that's how fate works! everything is already preordained by the fates, if the war was going to happen, it would happen. apollo wasn't at fault and i think a lot of ror!gods would agree with that
no i don't think so

Percico for the ship ask game?
(It's been years since the last time I read any PJO... I basically only really remember the Olympians series and I don't really understand their appeal, so, enlighten me? 😆)
Ohohoho, thanks for playing, Dee! <3
OKAY SO!
Nicercy is one of those ships that has this one particular Gay Yearning appeal for me personally as a gay. That "it's canon in a one-sided capacity, on the gay side" and most gays have been there, in love with a straight friend. So there is an element of wish-fulfillment with these kind of ships there for me. The "but what if he WASN'T straight?" (and that is an argument to be had about Percy a lot all the time), so what if Nico could HAVE his first love.
What if Nico could have the guy he's been in love with for years. The guy he's been mooning over to Hades about in canon. The guy he's been challenged about by Cupid himself.
By all things given in canon, Nico's love for Percy is set up in such epic and tragic proportions - from the very beginning, with that tentative crush but then Percy promises to protect Nico's sister and then Nico's sister dies on Percy's watch and Nico wants to hate Percy, but Nico can never hate Percy because Nico is already in love with Percy at this point, so Nico spends all of the PJO series protecting Percy, torn in his own feelings and desires.
And what if it doesn't have to be a tragedy. And what if it doesn't have to be that "gay in love with the Straight Protagonist", what if the fucking god of love and desire didn't have to forcibly out him for naught about his first love that leads to nothing? What if Nico can actually have that first love?
There is so much wish-fulfillment and yearning stored in the Nico side of this ship for me, as the shipper. A yearning to see this be happy instead of tragic, my own yearning, not just Nico's canonical yearning on the pages. But also that. Lot of yearning.
All the things Nico did, in canon, for the specific canonical reason of being in love with Percy. The way he risked his life in the labyrinth trying to save Percy, how Nico was the only one looking for a way to save Percy's life from the Great Prophecy - not the genius daughter of Athena, not Lord Poseidon the actual god, not Chiron, or anyone else at camp, only Nico and he was the one to find the Curse of Achilles that in the end did save Percy's life throughout the war - and Nico stood up to Hades himself to protect Percy, Nico was one of the few people who went out there searching for Percy when Hera abducted him. Nico's dedication to Percy is what really cements them as one of my all time biggest ships.
And with everything that Percy has been through in both wars, that is the kind of love I think he deserves. Someone who is willing to fight at his side, someone looking out for him, someone standing at his side and ready to protect him too.
I think that this is the love that they both deserve.
Then there is the obvious power contrast appeal of the underworld and the ocean. Just, that in itself is something that really appeals to me, to be honest? The pure, raw, overwhelming might of these incredibly powerful demigods?
Send me a ship and I will list reasons why you should ship it

Localization discourse has started to rear its head again because of some Funimation localizer defending a line from Dragon Maid but it really got me thinking, I feel like so many people are so quick on demonizing anyone who doesn't like localization changes as pro-GG when it's much more simpler. People don't hate localization changes because of the message itself but rather because it's not what the character is saying 9/10 and it comes off as calculated and cynical. I feel like it's kind of a direct consequence of transformative fandom, with the whole "I'm going to write the story the way I want it to be and fill up the spaces" but instead of a fanfic it's with the original source material.
Pro GG?
What is GG? AI?
I remember this argument of the "it's not what the character is saying" and people being pissed because they couldn't get the "right" script - and tbh, after reading some arguments here and there, localisation always comes with necessary changes/adaptation to the text, let it be grammatically or to convey ideas from a language to another, so if you want a 100% faithful script then... better start to learn the language lol
With Funimation though...
The Shinchan earlier post was telling enough of my opinion about drastic changes that aren't used to transcribe a meaning or convey an idea to a foreign audience, it's just... erasing the source material and swapping your own ideas on them.
Like, uhhh
Funimation acquired the Shin-chan US license in 2005. Funimation's dub takes many liberties with the source material and was heavily Americanized. Many sexual references, dark humor, and references to then-current popular American culture were added, including many jokes about subjects such as Jews, terrorism, and Viagra. Characters were given significantly different personalities and new, previously non-existent backstories. For instance, Shin is refused an allowance, on he basis that he could use it to buy drugs (crystal meth), his schoolmate Kazama ('Georgie Herbert Walker Prescott III' in this dub) was an absurdly hawkish ultra-conservative Republican, the unseen father of Nene (known in the dub as "Penny") was suggested to be physically abusive towards both his wife and daughter, Principal Enchou was rewritten as a half Romani, half Peruvian man with a complicated, checkered backstory that includes a stint as an accident-prone magician, The kids' teacher: Yoshinaga-sensei (known in the dub as "Miss Polly"), was rewritten as a kinky and often domineering nymphomaniac,
The earlier Vitello and Phuuz dub also edited some jokes and/or what was considered indecent exposure like shin's buttocks and tried to "occidentalise" a few references, but it wasn't like straight up changing what a character is or their personality!
No doubts funimation was "authorised" by whoever had the rights of the franchise to lolcalise and edit it as they did but it just comes out as a "why did they rewrite that stuff like they did", to make more money, to make another "mature cartoon" like Family Guy expy, idk.
And to be honest... I don't really care, because I grew up with the Vitello Dub and read some manga chapters of Shin-chan, so I know what the manga/anime (sure, the dog wasn't named lucky but shiro!) is supposed to say and/or be about.
I don't agree when you say those "lololcalisations" are a consequence of the transformative fandom in general, transformative works have existed since... forever lol (some dude wrote in the early middle ages (grégoire de Tours?) how Franks are descendans of Achilles or something to explain how kickass his king and his people are like, at this point, he's writing a self-insert OC story, right?)
But in modern times, there used to be a clear (?) divide between what was transformative work and what was canon - 50 Shades of Grey sort of started as a Twilight fanfic, but it became its own thing and no calls it a Twilight adaptation or "Twilight" anymore.
The Aeneid? Despite what devoted fans wants the world to believe, is "just" a fanfiction, aka someone writing about the characters he """loves""" no matter how OOC they are. It's a Fodlan fanfic and treated as such. Or should lol.
Still, if in a fanfic, Flayn can apologise for being born as a lizard because having lizard blood means she's automatically evil and oppresses humanity due to the fact she exists, it's only a fanfic. It's not something I like, OOC as fuck, but okay, moving on. Rhea eating ketchup is my own hc, also OOC since we don't see her eating any in the games, same thing - but fanfics are OOC by essence because they're a transformative work !
As I said, okay, moving on.
But when what is supposed to be as close as "canon", albeit translated, dips in the same "OOC" territory?
Sure, Eng!Raphael will say "I" instead of "ore" to refer to himself - and yet, imo, if professional localisers (at least the people picked by the company to bring games to an international audience!) have some sort of leeway with canon, their work is inherently transformative - since they're localising -they are still bound by some rules, unlike a fanfic author, because the aim of their work is not the same.
When you write a fanfic, you write it for yourself, to tell the story you want.
Of course it depends, like the funi shin chan dub showed, but usually, I think, when you are a professional localising something (a manga, anime, book, tv series, myth, story, anything!) you are supposed to only bring "necessary" changes to the source material to bring this source material to the "targeted audience".
And it's kind of hard to determine at what point is a "change" necessary or not - back in the 2000, "Jonouchi" had to be changed in "Joey" because, supposedly, non japanese children wouldn't be able to understand/connect/watch/idk a show with a foreign name (even here in France, we got "Petit Coeur" aka Small/Little Heart for... Piccolo in the early 90s!) - but now in the 2020s Midorima isn't dubbed "Mike".
(even if 2013 saw a localised Fates edit "Suzukaze" to "Kaze" for reasons as foggy as Fodlan's 10k years of lore)
And we of course have the notion of "targeted audience" - here in France, in the 90s, basically any "animated cartoon" was supposed to be targeted for children, like 3 to 10 years old. Which is the reason why we got lunar dubs for Hokuto no Ken and City Hunter (no "brothels", but instead, "vegetarian restaurants"!).
Yugioh was dubbed for a younger audience than, I guess, what was the targeted audience for the manga (even the original anime, regardless of the dub or not, feels like it was made for younger "children" than the ones who would read the manga!).
And this is where I wanted to come with the modern "transform the source material!" lolcalisations - are they "heavily" edited because they target a specific audience?
Like... the funimation Shinchan dub was obviously not aimed at children the manga, or even the original anime, hell even the Vitello dub, were targeting.
It's almost as if we're not talking about "bringing this definite thing to random people", but "finding/tweaking random things to definite people".
Take Fodlan's lolcalisation, especially Treehouse/Pat's.
NoA was the only regional branch to have, on the official website, something like "the Church controls Fodlan".
Through the 4 (already 4!) years of coverage, some people are still finding dub exclusive lines that portray the CoS as "BaD" or in a more negative light than the original text. Pat completely missed (or was it on purpose?) Rhea's character, so Leigh had to dub Rhage, when Supreme Leader was scrubbed off her most, uh, dubious personality traits (tfw no information campaign anymore :( or calling Rhea a Nabatean as an insult :()
Why? Why those changes? Is it because Pat/Treehouse didn't want to bring the game to the US, but wanted to bring this game to the "Dany revolution yas slay kween" crowd + the "organised religion especially catholicism BaD" crowd? Or because they thought bringing "a game" to this crowd would bring more money than to bring "Fire Emblem Three Houses" to the general US crowd? So they "reworked" FE16 to have messages that would attract this certain crowd ?
(and apparently it worked, iirc the US sales made up for 50% of FE16's sales, so it was very popular (and profitable!!))
The Pat/Treehouse changes weren't "necessary" to understand the source material, or try to find similar references (a trip to a hot spring in Shinchan was replaced with a trip to Paris, because children who might not be familiar with japan might not know what is a hot spring, or what a "trip to the hot spring" is supposed to be), so why were they made?
Is it like the Funimation dub? To reach specific people, even if the meaning and essence of the original material is lost?
In a nutshell, I don't think localisation companies (Treehouse or Funi) work in a vaccum, if they can lolcalise so much, it obviously means they got the authorisation of whoever has the rights to the original source material (maybe even the creator themselves!) to "edit" the content...
But that's what I came to regret the time where localisation, even if they had westernised names and more westernised refs, wasn't that "free", as in, Funi and Pat/Treehouse write their fanfic of Shinchan/FE16 ? Sure, why not, I mean, everyone can write a fanfic. Can I get a peak at the original source - edited as necessary because i'm not reading in the original language and I might not catch all references - please? No, because the only thing available is either something I cannot understand, or a fanfiction that takes liberties, as fanfic do, with canon.
Take Shinchan.
OG : Shin is a preschooler who has a dog named Shiro - meaning white - because his dog is white.
Vitello dub : Shin is a preschooler who has a dog named Lucky.
Funi dub : Shin wants an allowance but his parents are afraid he will buy meth and he has a dog named Lucky.
Remove the "old school" Vitello dub, and either Shin is a preschooler who named his dog "white" because the dog is white, or Shin is... a young child who receives money but lives in an area where he could buy drugs.
I can't understand the OG material, and I know the Funi one is a fanfiction, so what should I do? Treat this fanfic as canon, or, learn the language/try to understand the material by myself using dubious tools like translating apps? Or am I cursed to forever miss on Shinchan, even in the 2000s, aka an era where people can translate and localise movies from one language to another, but apparently for this one manga/anime, it's not possible unless it's lolcalised? Snowhite was turned into "Blanche-Neige" but the story is mostly the same than the one told in the US, but for Shinchan, I can only get the "Family Guy" version that isn't told in Japan?
I remember there was a controversy about localisation (when the thing that sparked that controversy wasn't even localisation related!) where some people, annoyed with the "liberties" they have with their dub version, became intense and rude and want to see localisers as "mere" translators...
And it escalated to have some localisers basically saying a game they localised is "their take" on a story - which is true, because each translation/localisation works with the bias of the translator/localiser, even if they try to be as neutral as possible, they can't completely remove themselves from their work -
Still, in FE16, Pat'n'Treehouse removed the "Supreme Leader uses propaganda" mention. Why? Is it their bias talking, they don't want her to "look bad"? But the script, the game wants the player to know she uses "information campaigns". Pat's "take" is she doesn't use it, but as a player, can't I be offered the choice to make my own take after seeing the script that mentions it, or not? Is Pat the one who directed the script, and wrote it as the "main thread" that links everything in the game (regardless of Fodlan's consistency lol), or was it Kusakihara/someone else?
If pat arbitrarly "removes" this part of the script, but I see it because I play in Japanese/Chinese/Korean/heck maybe other languages whose dub wasn't overseen by Pat, can it be said I played the same game as the players who played with the Pat dub/script?
Pat's CF!Felix calls Dimitri a monster, OG CF!Felix calls him a man -> thankfully we can count on fans to find stuff like this out but, again, why this bias against Dimitri in CF - that comes here from the lolcalisation, and not from the original text?
Why is it there? What if someone wants to play, and hopefully, understand, not Pat's "take" on their relationship in CF, but the writers/developer's? Is that someone fucked, or kindly asked to learn japanese (aka to do Pat'n'Treehouse's job?).
I don't really have The Perfect Solution (tm) anon to the general localisation discourse, at one point I was on the "just translate" fence, but when you understand a pun or a reference, and how it connects to something else, the game/book/anime/movie you're watching takes another level and it's much more enjoyable!
And yet, growing up with 4Kids and seeing shit like Treehouse butchering stuff, or hearing about Funimation Shinchan is... disheartening.
The only thing I can say is I'll always be rooting for dual audio, let it be for preferences but also to get at least what is easily understandable to everyone (I mean intonations, shocks, laughs, etc etc) and a glimpse at what the game/moving/anime is supposed to be enjoyed, especially with story heavy scripts like the FE series - while reading subs, because even the script is translated/localised, at least with the audio, it's easier to spot "lolcalisations".
And let's not forget the most important lol
The Fandom itself!
Let it be for FE, Tales or anything else, what I find fascinating (on Tumblr but even on redshit and SF once upon a time!) is how fans will be able to compare scripts, people familiar/fluent/who know a language will be able to spot the changes, and inform anyone who wants to be informed in the community that, say, Xander and Marx are pretty different characters, just like Jp!Effie and "I love to eat"!Effie.
Of course sometimes there will be misinformation (remember the Dimitri is rude because he uses the omae pronoun?), but I still find fascinating how, faced with ridiculous lolcalisations, fandom itself - aka part of the people who were supposed to be the targets of said lolcalisation - tries to "correct" and remove the unecessary edits. There are still people who dgaf about what was lolcalised from what wasn't, but even if it's just a consequence of the lolcalisation growing more and more unrestrained/unchained to the source material - it makes fandom engagment all the more precious and fascinating.
Like, you have real people basically combing the script and/or providing a translation - for free! - to help other fans, when some lolcalisers are paid to... edit and "lolcalise" the script some fans want to see.
And so, we're back to square 1 : who is the targeted audience of Funi's Shinchan or FE Treehouse?
The players/watchers?
FE Fates was, I suppose, ultimately lolcalised for a """western"" audience", aka an US one because no one gives a fuck about the rest of the world - and yet, assuming a majority of fans are from the US, said lolcalisation was mocked/ridiculed and ultimateld decried by part of that audience from who the game was lolcalised.
Some people (I've seen a redshit post about it today!) claim the lolcalised changed aren't made for the audience, but, much like a fanfiction, those changed weren't made to be more palatable to an audience, but were made for themselves - aka to push some agenda (see redshit's theory about funi pushing a "woke" agenda in their dubs and subs when it doesn't exist in the og scripts).
And to be fair, with FE16's US exclusive "Church BaD and controls the world!!!" + "Dimtri is not a man but a monster!", idk what Treehouse was trying to do, push their "organised religions BaD" agenda and "Supreme Leader is right so let's make her opponents BaD to highlight how right she is" bias? - but I can't help but wonder if it was indeed the case, and given how Pat sucked as a voice director, if the localised!version wasn't just some sort of trolley Treehouse used to convey their ideas, regardless of what the game wanted to say.
I mean, it's still fascinating, to this day, nearly 5 years after the release of the game, that we still find "Treehouse exclusive" lines, or how FEH who's still running, also has "Treehouse exclusive" lines for Fodlan characters that absolutely don't match the non global, aka, jp lines, let them be written or spoken - putting on the tinfoil hat, I wonder if Treehouse or whoever oversees the localisation isn't deadly afraid that if they don't pay extreme attention and/or rewrite anything related to Fodlan, global!players will realise that they were fed "Pat's Fire Emblem Treehouse", instead of FE16, thus takes extra care to comb and/or rewritte every line/dialogue that could make a global player think twice and note that this thing they're reading/hearing of in FEH (or even Engage!! See Dimitri's lolcalised line about people of different races living together!) is completely different from "Pat's Fire Emblem Treehouse".
Tl;Dr because I ranted and disgressed and idk where am I anymore with this post lol :
I think there's a difference between fandom's transformative works - done for fun, as a hobby! - and some lolcaliser's transformative works - they're paid for that and aren't supposed to bring a fanfiction to the audience, at least not as localisers ; so I wouldn't blame "fandom" for the fuckery that happened (Funi's shinchan is more than 17 years old!) and is sadly still happening.
On the contrary, given how fandom (at least some part of it) actively refuses to accept the lolcalised "fanfiction" - to the point of doing translation work! - I think fandom is the reason why this discourse is happening.
#anon#replies#sorry i ranted lol#and lost myself in localisation discussion lol#anyways that redshit thread had a meme about lolcalisation and using AI to push back against it#and I haven't changed my mind lol#AI sucks instead of letting Pat head Treehouse bring back human translators and people in general with a work ethic#who will localise what needs to be localised for an audience#but keep themselves and their messages/agenda out of their work#as much as possible of course#i wonder if at times all those lolcalised changes couldn't be sued for plagiarism#imagine if the french Snow White dub had her diss cream cheese to promote real cheese during the length of the movie#people would be pissed just like creators themselves#otoh if those ultra lolcalised changes passed the approval stage from the creator themselves...#then I'm just wondering what kind of idea they have of a 'western audience' or whoever the lolcaliser#said they were lolcalising for#Are we supposed to believe in 2015 IS really believed americans were too dumb to pronounce suzukaze so his name should be shortened to kaze#I say americans here because NoA exists when NoE doesn't and no one gives a fuck about us we're just eating scraps#idk#lolcalisation issues#real life issues#when you were saying calculated and cynical anon did you mean whedonspeak like the Supreme Replies#aka giving a witty one liner to sound cool?#I'm afraid I completely lost the message of your ask and replied with something compeltely unrelated :(

Hi!!! Just wanted to pop in and say that I love Time Speaks so much and really admire the effort and thought you put into every chapter. If you don’t mind me asking, how do you go about writing and planning? Every chapter is just so well organized and the caliber of writing, plot creation and character study is just amazing, you are an extremely talented writer 💜 💜💜
I'm so sorry it took me so long to answer this. Honestly, I wasn't really sure what to say, you asked my Achilles heel :'D
First of all, thank you for loving my writing <3 It makes me happy to write, and happy when people enjoy it!
So here's what took so long lol: describing my writing process. So, the process itself is more like a domino effect than a plan. Or maybe like a growing seed. I know the main "what is going on here" of the world, so I can stay within those boundaries, but the plot itself develops mostly as a series of consequences. Each lifetime has a theme that I have a vague idea of where it's going, but I don't plan chapters out in detail, I don't plan lifetimes out in detail, nor did I plan all the lifetimes in advance. I usually only know as far as what the next life will be like. I also always knew the ending, but there were a thousand paths I could have taken to reach it, because its an ending that is inevitable simply due to who L and Light and everyone else is.
Now, when it comes to the details or character interactions/development, those usually just develop while I'm writing. I sometimes joke in my notes that 'Lawlight made me do it' or 'they wanted to go this way' and I'm partly serious about it. Usually the conversation just flows and interactions just happen as a consequence of them as people. They, to put it honestly, write themselves. One character says something, and the other responds in the way 'they' would respond, and this happens in a world where every action and reaction is a result of multiple character motivations. My plot is not so much planned (outside of the Big Things like where they are and why the loops happen) as it is just growing with and around L and Light.
Basically, in my writing, I follow the 'rules' of the world (unmovable rules, like gravity's existence) and also the 'rules' of each character's personality (Like Light is petty if he can get away with it). We got through ten lives because of who L, Light, and everyone else are as people, instead of who I planned them to be and to become. And we got to our current point because it's what they chose to do. And yes I often know the choice they made and the repercussions of it chapters in advance, so it feels planned, but it's really just.... half-planned I guess? Sorry lol I'm making no sense.
It all feels like a cohesive whole because this was just where they were always going to end up, simply due to them as people + the basic rules of the world I created. It feels like it was planned I suppose cause it was a slow, gradual, and organic change of them as people. L and Light are reacting to the world rather than being led by a plot.
So at its core Time Speaks is the story of "L and Light are in a time loop, and this is how they'd react to that." And then combine that with "This time loop exists because of this reason, and this is how other characters react to that."
The story is just me doing my best to write the motivations and consequences of a whole bunch of characters' choices, again and again and again. And the hardest part is keeping the details straight in my head, while trying not to force the plot to go a certain way. I'm actually quite flexible as a writer and something massive changes happen in the moment cause it feels more organic to go that way instead of following my vague, preconceived notion of where it was going. (This has made me sad sometimes cause I've wanted to write a whole bunch of scenes that never saw the light of day cause they simply didn't work anymore.) Instead, of forcing the plot to go as I believe it should or sometimes even as I want it to, the characters have to be the ones to choose. (Cause I personally would have taken the loop as a happy thing, an eternal playground, and not bothered at all to investigate why it was happening; I would not have cared lmao. L and Light are different.)
My writing at its core is, I suppose, respecting the characters' choices. (And keeping all those choices in mind, cause the details are sometimes so complicated :'D )
So, yup, here's my incoherent mess of an answer, hope it made some sense!

Can you elaborate on the Greek mythology myths please?
Keep in mind Greek Mythology is tricky cause there are multiple different ways to tell a myth. Sometimes the gods are portrayed as kind and benevolent and sometimes they're straight-up vicious. So if my explanations don't make sense you probably read a slightly different myth about the same person. (hope that explains everything)
I'm actually so excited about this you don't even know. So let's go in the order I had them in
April/Arachne: there wasn't a super deep reason behind this one
April just seems like the type of person to start a fight with a God. Also depending on which myth you read, it can range from Athena blessing Arachne to Athena cursing Arachne because she was a better weaver and called the Gods out. Which again kind of ties into April being a reporter.
Raph/Atlas: this one doesn't really tie into the mythology as much
It's more along the lines of holding the literal sky on your shoulders
Raph is the team's foundation their backbone. We see in the movie how they kind of crumble without him
So it just felt right to me
Donnie/Daedalus: again this one doesn't really have a deeper meaning
Daedalus was a genius and that brilliance got him and his kid trapped in the Labyrinth he designed (which just feels like a Donnie thing to do).
Mikey/Achilles: I mentioned this in the tags but Mikey is the strongest member of the mad dogs (fight with a wall the kid threw a skyscraper)
But he has some weaknesses
His endless optimism/the fact that he wants to see good in everything/one
It bit him in the ass with Meat sweats and I'm not even gonna talk about Draxum
And finally Leo/Prometheus/Icarus
Prometheus gave humanity fire which sparked (pun intended) their creativity and made them realize they have free will and can rebel against the Gods
The Gods became angry and Prometheus was punished (if you know you know) (a fun fact they targeted his liver because they believed that's where the soul/life/intelligence is held)
Now tell me that doesn't sound like the inspirational speech Leo gave them near the end of the movie?
And then of course there is Icarus
A lot of people like to point out that his hubris got him killed
But as I have gotten older my mind came up with another answer
His father was a genius known far and wide for his intellect
Of fucking course he's going to trust his Dad's inventions
Even if it's some wax and feathers
He was a kid he probably thought his father was being paranoid
And at his core, he trusted his father more than anything and because of that he chose to ignore his father's advice
And as the invention worked he felt justified in his way of thinking and his confidence grew and which lead to his death
And that just feels like Leo to me

Rare video of someone discussing about sexuality in Greece.
As a Greek myself i must say that i find frustrating the stereotypes lf Usians, especially with retellings like the Song of Achilles.
Yes there was homosexuality in Ancient Greece and Rome, but there were some problematic like older men using their power over younger men as an experience phase before, or even during marriage, because it was forbidden in society back then.
It had happened also in ancient Japan with the brothels, but in general there wasn't a total freedom back then. What bothers it's just that foreigners take a piece of media and turn a stereotype for a whole country.
In general, I agree there are many problems with the wide misconception that “Ancient Greece was gay”, whatever that means. First of all, often this perception is not used as a way to imagine Ancient Greece as a place of freedoms and acceptance of all orientations but rather as a caricature, as the ultimate Eurovision wonderland. This can be fun at first but after the millionth joke it can soon become disrespectful or annoying when so earnestly spread in its inaccuracy, almost as a whole civilisation is solely defined by a sexuality or sex, like we are the bonobos. Secondly, it is not just used by the LGBT+ community as a way to express themselves or imagine a more hopeful place to have actually existed but from homophobes and anti-Greeks to bash on both. Thirdly, it is simply inaccurate and despite it being good or bad or simply fun, academia is responsible for spreading incorrect misconceptions. It being seemingly harmless doesn’t excuse them for perpetuating a misconception. Fourthly, it is frankly weird to see LGBTQA+ people saying “Ancient Greeks invented homosexuality” which I have seen a thousand times being said, because isn’t it very problematic to suggest, even as a joke, that sexual orientation is a human concept, a trend and a choice????
But now let’s go to the video you recommend. I will give this message the benefit of the doubt. I started watching the video, which makes many valid points and uses numerous ancient sources, and I was getting increasingly uncomfortable without knowing what the motivation of the YouTuber was behind making this video. Was it scientific, strict adherence to a historical truth… or something else? After about two points where I thought he was reaching and some cases where it seemed to me he repeated some offensive views more earnestly than he should, about half time in the video, I paused and searched his channel. Turns out that the guy is an antisemitic white supremacist Elon Musk fanboy. He is cunning enough to stick to facts and keep a polite profile as much as possible but the motive behind it is malicious if you pay attention. And his channel is demonetised. So, I stopped watching and hopefully you watched without noticing all that. The dude is doing all he accused LGBT+ and academia for, simply from the opposite side. He more or less admits himself that he is biased and that he dislikes how LGBT+ community tries to pass Ancient Greece as part of their heritage AND THEN immediately he explains that he dislikes it because he views Ancient Greece as the foundation of his utopic western white world (apparently ruled by straight males).
So as you see, it comes down to the same pattern when it comes to Greece. Marginalised and privileged alike, wronged and hateful westerners alike feel entitled to use the Greek heritage to define themselves and promote their agenda with too little care for historical truth or the moral implications of appropriating foreign heritage simply to serve very specific personal goals (whether good or bad ones). To the homophobes Greeks are macho straight “thoughtfully misogynist” fighters and to LGBTQA+ Greece is an inherent gay parade. Neither is accurate or realistic, if you think about it. Simultaneously, to homophobic Greek haters Greeks are a bunch of losers who of course would eventually lose some lands or wars in question because “they are whimps who like to take it in the butt” and to Greek hating LGBT+ people Greeks are immoral perverts that they shouldn’t be associated with in any way. So, I hope everyone understands why all this is a big problem from all sides.
As for what the truth was, the truth was that a) there were all sorts of sexual orientations in Ancient Greece like it happened in the rest of the ancient and modern world and people experienced them with the pleasures and the hardships that came with them as normal people and not as sex obsessed caricatures , b) there were different approaches on how to deal with less common sexual orientations depending on the era and the place / city-state in question, ranging from very homophobic to relaxed.
As an example, the Homeric era which is so romanticised by the LGBTQA community is most likely not one of the relaxed eras. Classical and Hellenistic period got to be some of the most relaxed and of course Athens in particular. As for pederasty it should not be either excused or beautified or immediately condemned based on modern standards because it normally was not supposed to involve a fully fledged out sexual relationship but we would be kidding ourselves if we denied that several older tutors didn’t take advantage of their protégés. As an example, the YouTuber is reaching when he says that erastes and eromenos simply meant “passionate for knowledge” LOL It is clear in every way that it meant that the young boy was the object of the tutor’s infatuation and / or devotion, regardless if that included a consummated sexual affair. But if erotic love did develop, the tutor was obligated to not lead the boy to an immodest lifestyle (that is, in short, being sexually submissive), which is after all a homophobic solution to a homosexual urgency, which is pretty strange (aside from the whole grooming problem). And pederasty was controversial even in Ancient Athens which established it! In general, we are not equipped to understand well how ancient people thought about sex, sexuality and genders, let alone try to excuse, defend, beautify or ferociously judge and condemn. Study and explore respectfully and impartially to learn more about the history of humanity is the only right way.
TL:DR the video makes many valid points but also reaches when the truth doesn’t benefit OP’s biases and the intent is harmful but presented in a very calculated, polite manner.

scars:  how many scars does my muse have? where are they located on my muse’s body? how did they get them? what do they look like?
Visage has amassed quite the little collection of scars over her lifetime ... and each and every one of them definitely has a story to tell.
Tumblr media
The first one you'll notice most likely is this lil' number across the top of her muzzle. This was from a bar brawl with some other hellhounds during her bounty-hunting days. Doesn't regret this one, even if the reason for acquiring it isn't as interesting or exciting as some others--it taught her an important lesson on being too cocky and she's taken that to heart all the rest of her days.
Tumblr media
THIS one ... you'll have a very hard time getting a straight answer about, unless she knows the person asking extremely well and trusts them a LOT. At face value, she'll just say it was a close call during an Extermination Day, which isn't a lie--it just isn't the WHOLE truth. This was the wound she sustained while trying to save her sinner girlfriend during one such event and as such, she wears it like a mark of shame. An ever-present reminder of her failure and everything that she's lost. This is one of the few scars she actually tries to cover up with high-collared jackets, collars, and other neck-obscuring accessories/stylistic choices (though she TRIES to be subtle about it).
Tumblr media
The mark on her upper left arm is her first work-related injury, actually making it one of the oldest scars she has. Shoulder-checking a demon covered in sharp spines probably wasn't the most brilliant decision she ever made.
Tumblr media
Right forearm was from broken glass after punching through the passenger-side window of a car to grab the occupant inside. One of those "seemed cool at the time" moments that she paid for later.
Tumblr media
Now THIS one was a scary near-miss situation. The target she was hired to go after was armed with a switchblade edged in angelic steel. Only a few inches of distance were the difference between a grazing wound and a fatal stabbing.
Tumblr media
The stab would through her left hand was a 'souvenir' from one of her hardest bounties she ever collected--an Overlord. This was the result of her opponent pinning her to the wall with a well-timed throw of a long piece of rebar. Hurt like HELL, and nearly gave her enemy enough time to finish her off ... but she managed to be the only one left standing in the end.
Tumblr media
This one is ... interesting. Technically, one COULD say that it was a work-related injury. If by 'work' you mean 'seducing an intended target and getting into some rough play before taking care of him'. Sometimes pleasure CAN come before business.
Tumblr media
This last one was also from a nasty brawl with a beefy target. This slash actually fully severed her Achilles tendon and forced her into an extended 'vacation' for nearly a month after she had it surgically repaired by a specialist in the Sloth Ring. Was one of the last injuries she sustained as a bounty hunter before going into retirement in preparation for what she THOUGHT was going to be her final Extermination Day.

one thing I've noticed about my ocs (save a couple) as I clean up my timeline is that the most traumatic experiences they go through always happen in their childhood/teen years, the most crucial times of development for a person
the light party (paris evander achille patroclus) is especially affected by this. given that they're still young adults those memories are still relatively fresh to them since it happened in short amounts of time
paris: went through watching their parents slowly drift apart and so absorbed in their own problems that they essentially abandoned paris. paris was an afterthought for them, and they eventually learned to not rely on their parents for anything. they were invisible, they were voiceless. having hector 'die' and andromache dumping them on her relatives because she couldn't handle raising a child on her own didn't do paris any favors either. to be surrounded by people they never met before but invoked the ire in many was what made them isolated from any meaningful connection with the adults tasked to raise them. also had to fill their mother's enormous shoes by becoming the warrior of light when they were still young, something andromache failed to do. they were never a kid to begin with
evander: the trauma of being born at all has followed him throughout his life. having to watch his mother and stepfather dote on his baby brother while he languished from sickness set the tone for him from an early age. he could have anything he wanted, as long as he wasn't seen or heard. knowing that his stepfather never really looked at him the same again because of how he was led to believe that evander was his—when it was a dirty lie perpetuated by the family he married into. he was already set apart from the clan because of his eyes: the same shade as the father he never knew. with the rest of the family either ignoring him or downright spitting in his face led to an alienated adolescence that grew into a festering resentment
achille: achille doesn't remember his parents. he doesn't know if he was brought into the world by accident, but his existence was not welcomed regardless if the childhood bullying was anything to go by. and while he had chiron trying to keep him on the straight and narrow despite his own problems, trying to fulfill a promise to a mother he never got to know, achille entered his teenaged years full of rage and angst. he began to rebel, he tried to find his place in the world through violence as an outlet and fell into the wrong crowd—it was a lifestyle that had devastating consequences. he's particularly cagey about this period of time as he's not keen on sharing it with anyone. he would rather pretend it never happened regardless of the marks on his face
patroclus: you would think he wouldn't have any issues from how privileged his life has been, and that may have been true if he could've kept those memories of his parents' murder locked away a little while longer. he was much too young, but he remembers it like it was yesterday. he holds some envy towards evander for not being there that night; he didn't get to witness the long night of terror or the longer days being abandoned in the desert because the killer was too softhearted to snuff out his life. but instead of working through the trauma, the family collectively agreed to never talk about the incident as it was quickly swept under the rug because of patroclus' safe return. patroclus was forced to move on from that moment and continue being the golden boy, the apple of his grandfather's eye that absolved any sin his mother committed

So we all love Hannibal's comparison of himself and Will to Achilles and Patroclus (and for good reason: from the ideas of blurred identities and transformation and destruction to the underlying homoeroticism, its perfect). BUT - if we look beyond his dynamic with Will alone and start to consider his relationships with other characters, particularly Abigail and Alana, then Hannibal starts to look less like Achilles and more like another Trojan War Greek hero: Agamemnon.
(explanation and analysis under the cut)
So, Agamemnon - King of Mycenae and Greek commander in the Trojan War. Descriptions vary but largely agree that he was a great warrior and a decent king but ultimately self-serving. Otherwise, Hannibal bears little surface-level resemblance to Agamemnon as characterised in the Iliad, but this parallel starts to take shape more when we consider his relationships with other characters and the roles they could be assigned in this little Greek tragedy.
First of all, Abigail; the surrogate daughter who trusted him and who died by his hand. Straight away, Abigail is the Iphigenia to Hannibal's Agamemnon. Iphigenia: Agamemnon's sacrificial daughter who is brought there under the pretence of beginning a new life, only to have her throat slit by her own father's hand and die when she was scarcely more than a young girl. In Euripides' version, she didn't even cry or try to escape it, she just walked willingly to her father and the blade he held, much like Abigail in Mizumono. And, like Iphigenia, Abigail is the biggest tragedy of them all because she never had a choice; all she could do was accept her fate.
This leads us to Alana. On multiple occasions in the show, Abigail assigns Hannibal (or Will) the role of her father and Alana the role of her mother which, in this extended metaphor, would make her Clytemnestra, Agamemnon's wife. Clever, relentless, and driven by a desire for revenge, Clytemnestra spent the Trojan War while Agamemnon was overseas planning his demise. He lied to her and betrayed her and took everything from her. So she ran the kingdom while biding her time until she could make him feel the same pain that she felt. The archetypal woman-driven-mad, who suffered so much that kindness and forgiveness just wasn't an option for her any more. Given Alana's arc in season 3, the Clytemnestra parallel seems quite fitting.
(disclaimer: I'm tired and these thoughts aren't exactly fully formed, so if anyone has anything to add to this please do!)
So where does that leave Will? Will, who spent the entirety of season 2 trying to warn everyone of the truth, of the danger looming over their heads, and yet never being believed until it was too late for anyone to save themselves and all they could do was hope to survive the bloodshed. Will is Cassandra; always on the verge of losing their mind and ultimately fated to die by Agamemnon's side.
So yeah. In conclusion, Hannibal is also basically Agamemnon. And that's not a very good thing, for anyone.

💕 self-love time! talk about which one of YOUR creations (edits, artworks, fanfics) you like the most then send to other creators to do the same 💕 if you wanna 🤗
Hi there!
Thank you for sending this my way. I've got to say I have been loving seeing everyone post about their creations and I'm giddy about being able to do it twice!
Okay, the first one was focused more on Kerry but this time I want to focus on my OC, although still in the early stages of his story development, I'm finally ready to introduce everyone to my Vincent!
Tumblr media
Vincent Ronin, (Surname of Japanese origin refers to a master-less samurai. Thought it was too fitting to miss the opportunity!)
A street kid who learned from a very early age not to trust anyone, his life had countlessly been on the line from the many gang rivalries and constantly being targeted on the streets. His guard raised, there were only a few individuals he allowed into his life. First of which was Viktor Vektor, an ambush from a gang that had almost turned nasty, Viktor had intervened and brought Vincent off of the streets and essentially became his guardian.
Stubborn, it very quickly became his Achilles heel as his unwillingness to change his opinion in favour of others had often left him picking up the pieces. Often as a result of Vincent putting himself straight into harm's way to make a point or to get it over and done with. His stubbornness also meant that he wasn't objected to use violence as a tool to get what he wanted, even if that meant causing major physical harm. He is also very sarcastic, a trait which comes off fairly strong when he meets new people for the first time.
Tumblr media
His neck butchered after a freak CyberPsycho incident, his life was saved with the addition of a neck implant. However, due to the trauma, his voice is rough and raspy at times and many just assume that it's because he is a smoker. He also lost his right arm in another accident I am yet to explore.
Vincent got on very well with Johnny from the start, his own humour often fuelled by sarcasm they both fuelled off of each other. A challenge to Johnny, in some sense it was a bit of relief for both of them to have someone who matched them from thought to thought, although Vincent didn't share a lot of Johnny's other characteristics.
Despite all of this, when it comes to those he values he is very loyal and will do anything to protect those he cares about. His mindset is very much to act first and think later especially when it comes to those he loves. Only a select few have been fortunate enough to see the full side of Vincent, the most important one being Kerry.

Ahhh! It's such a good feeling to have finally shared my OC with you all, and this mention was the perfect opportunity to do it as I'm damn proud of him so far. So thank you! I'm always so blown away by every OC that blesses my feed, y'all are all so gifted with the amount of work and love you put into them. You've all been my biggest inspiration and I can't wait to share more of Vincent as I continue to develop his backstory.
