WIP ask meme
@stripedroseandsketchpads tagged me in this. And oh my god. If you think there are Too Many Words in the fic I publish, you should see my poor notes app. Here is a sneak peek of its contents. I haven't edited for brevity/those I'm actively working on, these are just all the unfinished files I could find. Some I don't intend to do any more with, others I'd really like to pick up again. The only ones being actively worked on right now are the Andor Saga AU and the first one on the list for Andor.
I put ALL the Lymond I could find in mainly for @oughtaagh who has been leaving the most lovely comments on my Lymond fics that I have totally failed to respond to. I'm sorry! I will cycle back round to Lymond one day, it's inevitable <3
Tagging uh.... @distressednoise, @r0b0tb0y, @faceofpoe, @donnaimmaculata, @batri-jopa, @elwenyere, @notabuddhist and anyone else who wants to say I tagged them! Also sorry if you'd already been tagged, I'm not keeping up with the dash very well at the moment!
Anyway please send me asks/comments/cease and desist orders about these. xxx
ANDOR
C: We decided we were thirsty, and you wanted to go to Cavo's. As yet untitled Brassian alternative scene - what if instead of a great collaborative cover story this was a great collaborative fuck? Almost(?) finished?
Saga AU pt 2. This actually does have a working title of 'The Bear and the Berserk' but this doc is just a short bullet point list of plot things for a specific part of the fic.
Cassian pov. It's a Cassian pov chapter! For...drumroll...the first chapter of the Saga AU pt 2! The rest is going to be back to Brasso FPN. The file actually includes a rough first draft of chapter 2, as well.
"You're up early this morning," Bix says lightly. A follow-up chapter to Only Ever Just One Night started back when I had epic plans for continuing this, bringing in Cinta and Vel and Luthen, whumping the hell out of Brasso, and having Cassian rescue him. This is just one scene of awkward conversation with tea though.
Oh god it developed Plot. Related to the previous chapter - a bullet-pointed list of things that might have happened in this fic I Wil Not Write (not least as I'd rather just see what happens in S2 first anyway).
AND THEN WE DANCED
It was a sunny day in Batumi... Patchy few paragraphs of the next chapter of Inchoate.
Plannnnns (again). Plans for how Inchoate would/will continue.
THE LYMOND CHRONICLES
Canon-verse/other AUs
Multiple pieces of follow-up to The next man with a ladder, Danny/Jerott post-canon: It was dark when they rode into the port town... [Chapter 3, basically done, plus most of Chapter 4 but it devolves into broken paragraphs at the end]. "I'm going to the other bed," Danny said in a voice like someone was standing on his throat... [??? there's loads of this written! This is the file where they Get Down To It] Stitch the scenes together [a few paragraphs in which I hoped to make a logical leap from Chapter 4 to fucking, but seemingly never quite got there].
Lymondar saga draft. Actually two files of the abortive first effort at writing a saga AU. I was trying much harder to write in saga style and playing with lacunae in a way that was fun for me but exceedingly nerdy. I think I found the idea more fun than the execution, too.
St Seb. Remember ages ago when I was writing a post-canon 'Jerott gets shot full of arrows and has to admit his feelings because he thinks he's gonna die' fic? This is the file! Some bullet points and some text, some of which I even posted as Sunday sixes way back when iirc.
Fait prosperer qui n'est à croire vain. Fuck me, there's LOADS of this. Pawn in Frankincense/Ringed Castle AU where Marthe steals Lymond's ride with Kiaya Khatun and persuades her they should take over Russia together. Meanwhile Francis is left with Jerott. Hahaha. It kept getting longer because Francis kept trying to escape and I kept finding ways to drag him back, but the 'and now kiss!!' with the two of them behaving in character was just not coming easily.
Francis Crawford's Holistic Inquisition Agency. I wrote this??? One chapter of a Lymond/Dirk Gently AU, where Francis is obviously Dirk and Jerott is a furious/bemused Todd.
She tried every instrument, she redrew every chart. A few short chapters, never finished, of Marthe wrestling with her role in canon and her fate as assigned by La Dame. A couple more paragraphs of a similar sort of thing in Volos.
Malta. Half-arsed few paragraphs of wondering how Jerott would cope with meeting a fellow Knight being imprisoned for sodomy.
Band AU (my 1980s rock band AU for the series, see also @theartistknownaslymond)
Au of an Au. What if, after the Battle of the Bands at Solway, Jerott went to stay at the Edinburgh townhouse for a while and he and Francis got to collaborating in the shed? There's quite a lot of this and it's quite fluffy.
Out out out! The band celebrate Thatcher's downfall. Happy epilogues for everyone! However it's an epic task trying to do all the characters justice, so I was trying to write it as vignettes to match each song on the playlist. Six-ish are written. And earlier draft with plan for characters intercting is in Ding dong the witch is dead.
Jerott/Marthe - four times it just about worked, one time it really didn't. What it says on the tin? aka you just know Jerott has said 'Francis' instead of Marthe at least once when he comes. Only the beginning of the first time exists in this chapter, but I think I explored the idea elsewhere, whenever I dig up that file...
DWTH missing scene. Jerott/OC missing scene from Don't wake the house. Not finished, probably not going to be finished. I think I have enough Jerott smut on the go.
Workshop. Patchy draft of pre-canon Jerott and GRM 'therapy' session in which GRM learns about Francis Crawford and what a hold he has on the boy he thought of as his own plaything. GRM doesn't like sharing.
F/P. Draft of a fluffy kiss prompt someone (@erinaceina? @notfromcold?) sent for Francis/Philippa. Post-canon pregnant Philippa and worried Francis written when it was too hot in summer. It's probably complete enough to post tbh! hmu if you want it posting.
Jerott behaving badly (again). Somehow this ended up in the 'comfortember' section of the notepad, which...no? Maybe it was intended to be originally, but it grew a life of its own. Post-canon, post split-up with the OC, pre-getting together with Danny. Joining the mile high club and regretting it, then ending up crashing at Joleta's (who he meets coincidentally at the airport, NOT who he's screwing in the airplane loo!!). It's meant to end up cathartic, but didn't get finished :') I'm actually really pleased with what I have - post-canon Joleta is so much fun to write!
Somewhere (Google Drive?? an actual Word doc??) there is also loads and loads and LOADS of Pawn in Frankincense band AU around Baron Morgan's place (the Aga Morat), featuring fucked-up Francis/Morgan, fucked up Marthe/Kiaya, fucked up Francis/Kiaya, and bewildered cold turkey Jerott. There's also some Jerott/Marthe from later on.
Other
Crossover. A sequel to my ATWD fic I will shake mountains, where Merab and Irakli encounter celebrity diners in the restaurant they work in: respected musician Francis Crawford and friends take the boys for a drink and share queer/artistic inspiration/history with them. There's quite a lot written but I couldn't quite manage to finish it off.
St Mary's. Another ATWD/Lymond crossover, placing Merab and Irakli among the mercenaries of St Mary's. Mostly bullet points.
3m. Furious that there was no fic for the film Three Months I decided to jot down a scene I wanted to see afterwards. I wrote four lines and cannot remember what my plan was at all.

It's me Moon, here to ask ya STUFF!!
😈🧐🦅💞🤲✅⌛🤯
hi you, Moon! love to see you here, thank you for the ask! here goes:
😈 has there been a point in a story where you did something just to be playfully mean to your reader? not yet (threat)
🧐 do you spend much time researching for your stories? It depends on the story really. Not usually, since i tend to write about stuff i'm familiar with or just go on vibes, but i did do loads of research for "See You Again", because, being a hospital au, i needed to make sure i got all the terms and symptoms right.
🦅 do you outline fics or fly by the seat of your pants? i outline most of them. Before i actually start writing, i make a separate document with all the stuff that should happen in the story, then sort them cronologically, and then start writing the story. They always look different though– i made bullet point lists for both WPTS and SYA, because it looked easier at the time, but for the high shool au and the uni au (neither of which has been posted, nor have i mentioned them before. WILD WAY TO ANNOUNCE FUTURE FICS INNIT) i find it easier to do summaries of each chapter. For one-shots, i usually either do a very basic oultine of events that will happen, or just wing it in one sitting with no plan at all
💞 who's your comfort character? Aled Last from Radio Silence by Alice Oseman
🤲 would you please share a snippet of a wip? since you asked so nicely...
Here's a snippet from chapter 9 of Who painted the sky?:
“What?” she asks, her eyes narrowing slightly.
His smile grows. “I was just thinking that you’re really pretty,” he shrugs.
Annie’s eyes widen slightly, her face turning redder. “Am I?”
Armin almost snorts. “Of course you are! You’re the prettiest girl I’ve ever met!”
✅️ what's something that appears in your fics over and over again, even if you don't mean to? certain expressions and structures, like not only but also, his eyes poured into hers, some coparission between their eyes that i forgot... also i think i've mentioned camping and the Park of Roses in like half of them lmao
⌛️ how long does it take you to write a fic or a chapter? depends on the length, the story, and my mood. for wpts, i've written entire chapters in one day, but i've also spent entire months on one scene. i remember that i wrote like 2 chapters and a half in one singular day back in november. i have fics from years ago that i work on regularily and still haven't finished, but i also have fics written, edited and posted in a matter of hours. i've noticed that the editing takes the most time, but it really depends
🤯 what's a genre you struggle with as a wrieter? not sure if it counts as a genre, but smut. i just can’t write it

WIP Ask Game
Tagged by @obscureenthusiast and tagging uh... @claraoswalds IT TOOK ME THREE TRIES TO REMEMBER YOUR USERNAME LANIE STOP CHANGING IT and also for real, if you want to do this and pretend you're tagged by me do it. Do it.
Rules: Post the names of all the files in your WIP folder, regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous. Let people send you an ask with the title that most intrigues them, and then post a little snippet or tell them something about it! Then tag as many people as you have WIPs. (haha. no)
Opening onshots 2.0 dot scrivx. One day I will actually rename the file to not have a typo in it.
Two Swords (Star Wars: KOTOR)
I WILL FINISH THIS ONE DAY
SPECIFICALLY I WILL PROBABLY WRITE IN A FUGUE STATE WHEN I GET FAR ENOUGH IN MY REPLAY
Bra'tac's Resume
Exactly what it says on the tin. One Day I Will Finish This. Just trying to get the EXACT right vibes.
Jack fic (Doctor Who)
I'll be real I had forgotten this one existed
I should really reread it and try to remember what I was going for with this one. This one was in my OLD oneshots document that I abandoned for getting too full and having trouble loading. It's now ported to my current writing doc. So there's that.
kiss? panic! (TAZ: Amnesty)
Also something I'd forgotten about in my old oneshots doc. It's pretty fragmentary and I think I repurposed some of it for this fic
which means this was from 2019. hahahahaha. fuck.
I have a few more WIPs for Redacted Original Fiction Project but even with those I don't tend to have big ongoing WIPs. More than one, anyway, and I haven't had a huge WIP since oh god probably Counterbalance in 2019? Can you tell that university is slowly deepfrying my brain? Can you smell the smoke?

Star Wars Fic Recs Part the Fourth
[first fic rec list] [second fic rec list] [third fic rec list]
Been a few weeks since I've done one of these and I've read/reread some great fics recently so let me share them with you now!
And I Fear Nothing by @maiseey (Obi-Wan/Cody, WIP, 11/? chapters, 43.4k words) Picture this: I am sitting in the parking lot of my local grocery store, having just bought a load of perishables. I get the email that And I Fear Nothing has just been updated. What do I do: run home to preserve the food I just paid for, or sit in my car and read the new chapter right away? The answer is obvious, of course! That is exactly the situation I found myself in last week when chapter 11 dropped and I did in fact choose to read it in spite of my groceries, that's how much I love this fic. In this fic, Obi-Wan and Cody are raising Luke and Leia together on Tatooine, and they've got so much trauma, and new + old wounds, and love for each other and the children they're raising that it both warms your heart and tears it apart. But that's not all, this fic expands beyond just the small home in the middle of the Jundland Wastes and explores Ahsoka and Rex and their journey to de-chip as many clones as possible. I love this fic because it doesn't shy away from hard conversations, but it does it in a way that makes you want to cry and give everyone involved a hug. Plus, there are some fantastic minor clone characters that you will 100% want to die for by the time you finish reading. Cannot recommend this fic enough.
Obligate by @communistkenobi (gen, one-shot, 23.9k words, Obi-Wan & Anakin & Ahsoka) Just when you thought the Deception arc didn't have enough pain, this AU sees Anakin fake his death instead of Obi-Wan! My heart is physically ripped out of my chest just thinking about this fic, so imagine what it'd do to you actually reading it. Anything @communistkenobi writes is so well-done and I've gone through his works list on AO3 multiple times, but somehow I missed this when it was first posted and it was like a wonderfully delightful surprise when I ran into it the other day. So, so good. Highly recommend!
Moirai by damonkey (gen, WIP, 4/? chapters, 9.2k words, Obi-Wan & Qui-Gon) All I can really say about this fic without giving anything away is that it's a Phantom Menace AU and it's so intriguing. The author is very deliberate in having a vague summary and only tagging as the story progresses, so I truly have no idea what's ahead of me but it's so -- as I said -- intriguing that I'm happy to strap into the ride. Ahhhh I'm skimming through the fic and there are so many things I want to mention but I don't want to give anything away!
Almost Home by @frunbuns (gen, one-shot, 5.2k words, Obi-Wan & Anakin) You know, every time I recc a Modern AU I'm like "I don't usually like Modern AUs but..." and then proceed to gush over the fic. I went and checked and I've recced a Modern AU on almost every fic rec list I've made! Maybe I do like Modern AUs?? Or maybe the fics are just that good -- and this fic is definitely that good. In this fic, the first of a planned series of fics set in a modern Star Wars universe, Obi-Wan is reeling from the loss of his adoptive father Qui-Gon and has to care for a young Anakin. Ooooooof. Definitely hits you right in the feels, this one. Love the non-chronological storytelling too!
Naked and Not Paid by biscuitlevitation (Obi-Wan/212th Attack Battalion, WIP, 6/? chapters, 14.9k words) This fic is essentially ~15k words of the clones thirsting over Obi-Wan and it is the funniest thing I have read all year. I'm not kidding, I just read the last chapter which features space-church-lady!Anakin and I laughed so hard I cried. I'm cracking up just thinking about it. I promise you will have a good time reading this fic. And if the tag "Obi-Wan Kenobi/212th Attack Battalion" puts you off, let me just say there's no sex in this at all, it's just thirst. And it's hilarious.
Full Disclosure by @trixree (Obi-Wan/Cody, WIP, 2/3 chapters, 7.4k words) ROTS AU in which the Force bonds Obi-Wan has formed with a few members of the 212th save them from the chip and Order 66, but it doesn't stop the devastation from happening on a mass scale and they all have to try and deal with Mustafar and Luke and Leia. This fic manages to be both extremely soft and extremely gut-wrenching at the same time, and I wish I could leave more kudos. Full disclosure (get it, little pun there for ya), I will be dying until the final chapter comes out. Time to go listen to Olivia Rodrigo and reread this fic and just live in my feels.
Thirteen Days by @ewanmcgregorismyhomeboy12 (gen, one-shot, 4.1k words, Obi-Wan & Anakin) Post-Zygerria arc, Anakin dresses an unconscious Obi-Wan's injuries and struggles. Ahhhh this fic is one of my favorite Zygerria arc fics, and given that that's my favorite arc, that's saying a lot! Obi-Wan doesn't say a word in this fic, but his presence is very much there, if you know what I mean. And the descriptions of injuries here are pretty graphic at times, but it's so good that you'll want to keep reading even if you have to do it through the fingers covering your eyes.
brother, let me be your shelter by @kenobilovebot (gen, one-shot, 1.6k words, Obi-Wan & Anakin) This fic packs so much tenderness in a short amount of words. It covers an AU in which Obi-Wan's issues from Zigoola never really resolve, and Anakin finds out when -- well, you'll just have to read for yourself. I love Zigoola because it is such an excellent whumpfest for poor Obi-Wan and this fic is great for that, but also highlights Anakin and Obi-Wan's relationship.
A Padawan At War (Again) series by @itstimeforstarwars (gen, 3 parts, 100k words, Obi-Wan & Anakin) In this series, Obi-Wan and Anakin are transported from The Phantom Menace into the Clone Wars and have to deal with all that comes with it: fighting wars, discovering a Padawan you never knew you had, dueling your grandmaster who apparently is a Sith Lord now(?!) and all the rest. This series is a great ride, and I look forward to every update. Note: the first fic in this series is a one-shot that was expanded upon, and it drops you in media res. The second fic is a prequel that shows how they got to that point, and the third fic is the sequel that shows what comes after.
The Desert Storm series by @blue-sunshine-mauve-morning (complete, 24 parts, 1.144 million words) There has never been a better time to start reading this series. If you read Star Wars fics on AO3, then you've definitely seen the Desert Storm series before, but maybe you were daunted by the high word count, or felt like it would be too much effort to go all the way to the beginning of a series but couldn't just jump in halfway. Let me tell you, it's 100% worth it, and now is the perfect time to read this series if you haven't already. This series is complete, but it turns out it's all just Act 1 of the larger story, which will continue in the Rise and Fall series. @blue-sunshine-mauve-morning is taking a break right now before starting the next series, so you have ample time to get caught up, and YOU REALLY SHOULD. Let me tell you, this series had me on the edge of my seat more than any other piece of media I can remember. With the most recent chapters, where everything that has been building for a million words came to a head, I would get so worked up after each chapter that beforehand I would have to queue up calming things to watch afterwards, and it still wouldn't be enough and I'd be too full of feelings to get anything done the rest of the day. Seriously, this series is amazing. And if you HAVE read it before but haven't reread, now is the perfect time for that as well. I've reread this series multiple times and it's so rewarding because the author sprinkled in so many hints as to what will come that you only understand the second (or third) time around. I know I've written a lot for this rec but this is a long series and it deserves it. Go read! Now!
If you like any of these fics, please consider reblogging so they can get more exposure! And if you noticed I missed someone’s Tumblr account, or linked the wrong one, please let me know!

Mayo's Fic Recs
List of my favourite fics below the cut; this list is a WIP and completely personal taste; a mix of fandom classics and lesser knowns
Please remember to leave comments and kudos for the authors and podficcers!
*shows particular favourites
Fandoms currently included: Spn, Merlin, Les Mis, BatFam
Fics That Changed Me Fundamentally
Loaded March*** by Footloose. Merlin | E | 1.26M(Series)/ 35k (First part) | 188k hits (First part)
The reason SAS Captain Arthur Pendragon can’t keep a communications specialist in Team Excalibur because none of them are good enough. And then Lieutenant Merlin Emrys gets assigned to his squad, and Arthur does everything he can to prove that Merlin isn’t good enough, either. Except he is.
You can read all about my thoughts on Loaded March here, here, and here. Basically this fic series is beautifully written, has absolutely delicious UST, has found family, magic, and high stakes. It’s been part of my life for almost a decade now, I made friends through LM that I still have to this day, and it genuinely changed me as a person. Plus there are 78k of Extras to itch that I Finished Now What scratch. Parts 1-5 have been podficced and you can find them in works inspired by this one in each part.
Down to Agincourt*** by Seperis. Supernatural | E | 1.12M(Series)/ 154k (First part) | 73k hits (First part)
The world’s already over and they’re already dead. All they’re doing now is marking time until the end.
S7!Dean is transported back to the aftermath of where 5x04 The End left off. Much like LM, DtA was one that I avoided for a while. I didn’t think it would be my thing. I’m not usually into End!verse, it sounded so bleak from the summary, and it sounded so long for something I wasn’t sure about. If you’re reading this and nodding along? You are as much a fool as I was. Yes, it’s the end of the world. But it’s not over yet. This is a beautiful journey in what it means to be yourself, how to survive the end of the world, a How-To for Coups, and a study in food as a love language. I only read this fic this year, but like LM, it has genuinely changed me. Map of the World has been podficced.
Supernatural
Let’s start with the current hyperfixation. All of these are at least passively Dean/Cas unless otherwise stated. I've split into ones from my first time around in the SPN fandom and more recent ones because the vibes are actually really different and it took me some time to adjust (Not in a bad way! In a time has passed they have grown as characters way)
Old-School SPN (AKA the Classics my first time around)
Canon-Compliant or Divergent
Home in Motion* by nomdeplume13 M | 232k | 48k hits
Castiel swore he was done with spur of the moment decisions that permanently changed Dean Winchester's life. A year after the angel's most disastrous, his newest may present the largest challenge of dean's life: Fatherhood.
Did someone say kid!fic in canonverse? This is perfect. Canon divergence from the end of S6. Cas saves a baby from a neglectful mother and gives him to Dean to raise. They all move in with Bobby. Great OCs. Bobby considers Cas his son. Listen everything I say here will not be able to begin to encompass how much I love this fic. Just trust me on this one.
Named* by RC_McLachlan M | 95k | 95k hits
Jesus Christ is dead. Somehow, that isn't the worst part of Dean's week.
With a summary like that, need I say more? No but I'm gonna. This is one of the funniest fics I've ever read, but it doesn't take any emotion from the serious moments, if anything it heightens them. There are so many quotes from this I think about all the time. It was written in 2010 and so there's a bit of misogyny/character assassination of Anna in places.
Second Childhood by CloudyJenn (read by exmanhater) G | 16k (1h30) | 10k hits
"Dude, I can't do this whole thing by myself," Dean said with far more desperation leaking into his tone than he liked. It would just be too much to make it through hell and death and Lucifer only to have Castiel bail on him because of a frigging baby.
They beat the Apocalypse (OG-S5) and then Sam gets de-aged by a spell. I've listened to this so many times I know it by heart, it's an ultimate comfort fic to me.
Defy Any and All Expectation* by Tenoko1 (read by Tenoko1) M | 138k (14hrs) | 37k hits
Chuck's newly released books tell of another war between Heaven and Hell. Team Free Will sets out to try to defy prophecy, only to realize there is a lot more at stake and amiss than the not-quite-accurate words of one Prophet of the Lord. Along the way, Dean and Cas' relationship continues to evolve into something neither expected or were prepared for, all of their lives transforming in ways no one could have expected. But with no shortage of cases, monsters, and mayhem, it's going to require the help of new friends and old enemies if they're to have a hope of saving the world one more time. Alternate Season Six.
So this is a re-written version of Tenoko1's The Path We Choose which I don't think is around anymore. By the time I was reading the re-write as each chapter came out, I knew every single line of TPWC and it wasn't all that much shorter. It's such a perfect canon divergence because they are all 100% in-character. If you're into podfic, you already know what an absolute gift 14 hours is, but if you have never tried podfic before, Tenoko1 is a fantastic place to start. Her voice is soothing and energetic and her Cas sometimes comes to mind when I'm reading fic in Misha's place (sorry Misha)
His Fucking Kids 'Verse by 8sword M | 96k(Series)/ 3k (first part) | 26k hits (first part)
Jesus, the school should just have a parking spot labeled, “Reserved for the Novak-Winchesters,” because Dean’s getting sick of having to cruise around the parking lot looking for a spot every time he gets a call from the principal about Emma.
Emma survives and Dean and Cas are raising her and Claire. This fic series will make you laugh, make you cry, and (nowadays) make you wish Emma had survived to be a part of Wayward Sisters.
One Species Too Many by wallmakerrelict E | 22k | 37k hits
While Dean is laid up for a month after breaking his leg on a hunt, Cas decides that it's a perfect time to adopt a litter of kittens. But even though he's gotten better since Purgatory, Cas still isn't quite the same as he was before fixing Sam's head, and being trapped in a cabin with him for weeks on end is making that all the more obvious to Dean. When Sam takes off on a hunt, Dean has to figure out on his own how to navigate his new relationship with Cas while also helping to raise a bunch of fuzzballs that aren't even cute. Not even a little bit. (Well, maybe a little bit.)
Dean breaks his legs, and honey!Cas brings home some kittens to foster. It's achingly sweet and also painful because you know Dean wants to fix Cas but there's nothing to fix. It is tagged for ableism for this.
Tripping* by Hatteress E | 49k | 78k hits
That time the universe decided Dean belonged with Cas and wasn't afraid to pull out the big guns to make it so. Big guns in this case being obsessive fangirls, archangels turned tricksters and overly enthusiastic cupids. Welcome to Dean's life.
Alt!S5 and it is beautiful. Also any fic with Missouri is an automatic win.
Broadway Musical by Grifitings M | 12k | 79k hits
This is the day that marked the Holy and Blessed Union of Dean Winchester and Jo Harvelle. The merging of prominent bloodlines is always a grand occurrence, but breeding pedigree hunter families like Winchester and Harvelle is something to be rejoiced. It is also something to be meticulously planned, which thankfully the Host is very good at. Or, the romantic comedy where Dean Winchester and Jo Harvelle are destined to get married, Castiel is given the task of playing matchmaker and fails terribly, the entire Heavenly Host becomes a sitcom audience, God warns against male pregnancy, and Jimmy Novak is incredibly unimpressed with angels in general.
Jimmy deserves a sainthood and frankly I don't even want to hear about crack if it's not on the level of the Host yelling at Cas not to touch the butt.
Classic AUs (AKA AUs from my first time around)
Try Something Tuesday by almaasi E | 48k | 144k hits
Dean Winchester teaches a third-grade class. He's new to this whole ‘bisexual’ thing - but by pure happenstance, he meets Castiel: a particularly dapper male librarian who moonlights as a substitute teacher. Dean's curious and Castiel is willing, so why the hell not? Except, fate never intended it to be one-time-only...
This was one of the first spn fics to really really stay with me and it never really left.
Rock 'n' Roll Queer Bar by ChasingRabbits E | 127k(Series)/ 8k (Part1) | 29k hits (Part1)
Ellen and Jo Harvelle run Harvelle's Roadhouse, a bar that unintentionally becomes a beacon for wayward queer souls. Her employees: Dean, the smartass runaway with a big heart and bigger mouth; Castiel, the college drop-out turned hippie; his (surprisingly heterosexual) trouble-making brother Gabriel; and Charlie, who has been told several times that the back room is not to be used for after-hours Dungeons & Dragons games. But there's a lot of love in this place, and a new family for anyone who may otherwise be without.
This series. If you've ever felt unsure or out of place or anxious or just really felt like no-one understood you, this fic is for you. I first found this series when I was coming to terms with my queerness and I genuinely think it was invaluable. Also I am a sucker for the go for a dinner at Cas's family and end up storming out trope.
Play It All Night Long by janie_tangerine (read by Tenoko1) NC17 | 43k (4hrs)
The rom-com-ish one where Dean hosts a late night radio show, Castiel is a regular listener of his who starts calling one day and ends up calling more often than not and Dean finds himself liking it. This, until one day Castiel calls for not exactly petty reasons (just before Dean's brother Sam is visiting with his girlfriend for spring break) and things get very, very crowdy at his place. He also doesn't know it's just the beginning of it. Also features Gabriel, Chuck, Andy, the Roadhouse crew and a huge amount of music quoted. Especially Bob Dylan.
Again, this podfic has got me through many a night of insomnia. Cas calls in after a particularly shitty day and it all goes from there.

Canon-Compliant or Divergent
Tall Grass by aeli_kindara E | 57k | 28k hits
“I think we should have a garden,” Cas says. Dean looks up from his beer. He hasn’t had that much to drink, but Cas still has a vague look of unreality about him, a splash of living color that doesn’t fit in the bunker’s echoing stillness. Dean didn’t hear him coming. A lot of the time, Cas is so unobtrusive it feels like Dean has the bunker to himself, with Sam away. Dean shakes his head to clear it. “A — garden?” he repeats.
There is a reason you will see this recced time and time again. It healed parts of me I didn't know needed healing.
So Says the Sword* by komodobits E | 85k | 73k hits
The briefing was simple: ‘Stand guard over the Michael Sword until the battle is ready to commence. Await further instructions.’ Castiel doesn’t mind working security duty; he was briefed shortly after the initial salvation of the Sword from the pit, and again before taking up his position. He knows what to do. However, it’s easy to forget that the green room isn’t real. Time moves differently there, the space ever-changing to make a prison of mountains, cathedrals, salt flats, orchards, and whatever Castiel was led to believe about Heaven’s greatest weapon—Dean Winchester is something entirely unexpected
I saw ssts mentioned in like every single If you're getting back into the fandom READ THIS rec list. For good reason. It's described as "canon-adjacent in that seasons one to three happened exactly the same, but when Dean goes to Hell, he is not raised by Castiel". It's one of the most interesting concepts I've read and it's one of those fics where the writing style will stick with you. Castiel POV in a way you've never read before.
Aching in the Absence of You* by sobsicles E | 95k | 9k hits (in 5 days)
Brittle and battle-worn, Cas looks at him over coffee one morning and says, "I need to go," and Dean instantly knows that he's not coming back. He's not really sure how he knows it, but he does. It settles into the pit of his stomach, curling hot and tight like something he instinctively wants to tear out with his bare hands. He takes a breath, and it gets stuck in his throat, hitching there. It hurts, hurts, hurts when he finally exhales. "Yeah," Dean says, "of course you do," and he nods jerkily as he looks down at his phone. He doesn't say goodbye. He doesn't look up from the screen when Cas gets up and leaves the room. He doesn't finish his coffee, or move for a long time. By nightfall, Cas is gone.
If you don't already know sobsicles, I am delighted to introduce you to the person who will smash you to pieces with a hammer to put you back together Kintsugi-style. This one is post-finale but without 15x18 (it'll make sense as it goes). Cas says he's going to leave again and again Dean doesn't ask him to stay. Full of lines so beautiful they'd make Shakespeare weep, Sobsicles has this way of writing that is so evocative and paints such a clear picture. Fair warning, if you're Dean-coded, this might be A Lot.
dumbassery, denial, doing (the three d's to the destination)** by sobsicles E | 108k | 25k hits
Freedom is just one adjustment after the next. ~~~ Cas hums again. "I think you already have. It's been months since everything settled. All that's left to do is...get used to it, and perhaps—" His voice stalls out, uncharacteristically, and his gaze roams Dean's face with intensity. When he speaks next, his tone is a little raw. "Perhaps what one does with peace is...whatever they want." "What if I don't even know what that is?" Dean grumbles, arching an eyebrow in challenge. "'Cause I know damn well you don't just mean good food and a good bed and time in Baby, not simple wants like that. You mean—ya know, the big things, the wants we didn't get to have before." "Yes," Cas agrees. "If you're not sure, figure it out." "Easier said than done."
Yes, two sobsicles recs back to back. This one I read first and it still holds such a special place in my heart. A sign of a good fic is being able to picture it perfectly. The sign of an amazing fic is that when reading this I was so in Dean's shoes I could feel a pool cue between my hands and Baby behind my back. And I sobbed like a baby in this. It has probably my favourite ending ever. It's genuinely beautiful. If you don't read another on this list, read this one.
Teaching Poetry to Fish by aeli_kindara M | 52k | 14k hits
In which Castiel teaches poetry to fish. Also, himself. Also, eventually, Dean. (A series-long story, diverging slightly from canon after S14.)
The ultimate Cas character study and interwoven with poetry.
So There It Is, I've Said It All by PorcupineGirl (read by Ceewelsh) G | 4k | 13k hits
"Why, do you have something you need to say to me that you don't think I'll like?" I think I'm in love with you. "Yeah. I guess so."
Dean figures out he's in love with Cas then can't stop thinking it. This is genuinely beautiful and if you've ever had trouble actually saying the thing you're thinking, you'll relate to Dean here. I recently did the podfic for this.
you won't find this place alone by amidsizedfrog G | 9.5k |
When Claire said she was dropping out of college to pursue hunting full time, Dean said, “right,” and left the room. Or, the cross-generation conversation about formal education, choosing your own path and figuring out what it looks like to find a family. Or, in other words: "But what I do have is a GED and a give-'em-hell-attitude, and I'll figure it out." - Dean Winchester
This is a beautiful look at education in the hunter world, and I love anything that looks at Dean and Bobby's relationship and this does it perfectly. Also best cameo ever.
Seek to Know You Better by ahurston E | 33k | 23k hits
Dean and Cas, a long stretch of highway, and 36 questions empirically designed to make two people fall in love. As if they weren't already.
This is perfect. It has a lovely slow pace like it has the vibes of an indie film if that makes sense? Like it's two guys going from place to place talking. It was an instant favourite.
Newer AUs (AKA more recent AUs)
And This, Your Living Kiss* by opal_bullets M | 57k | 69k hits
Only a very few people in the world know that the celebrated and reclusive poet Jack Allen is just Kansas mechanic Dean Winchester, a high school dropout with a few bucks to his name. Not that it matters anymore; life has left him so wrung out he never wants to pick up another pen. Until, that is, a string of coincidences leads Dean to auditing a poetry course with one Dr. Castiel Novak. The professor is wildly intelligent, devastatingly handsome...and just so happens to be academia's foremost expert on the poetry of Jack Allen.
When I asked which fics were absolute must-reads for someone who'd been out of the fandom a few years, this was said repeatedly. But what really got me to read it was everyone actually told me more about what it meant to them than just the summary. It's a study in poetry, a study in learning who you are and who you used to be, and a reminder that it's never too late.
The Graveyard Shift* by riseofthefallenone, PurgatoryJar E | 620k | 175k hits
Dean’s favourite coffee shop, The Graveyard Shift, is only open after the sun goes down. Which is perfect for him, because that’s exactly when he craves coffee the most while doing the overnight at the fire hall. The coffee shop’s owner is pretty perfect too, but it’s kind of a bummer that Dean never gets to see Cas during the day. In a world where the supernatural live more or less in peace with the rest of humanity, it’s a little impolite to ask Cas just what he really is - or what his dark past entails.
A fantastic magical realism fic - magical creatures live and work with humans. Gabe and Cas run a coffee shop, Dean is a fireman, and the burn is slow and delicious and the intrigue kept me reading for like a week every single spare minute.
Painted Angels by WinJennster E | 106k | 162k hits
Author Castiel Novak has finally hit the big time, with a book based on his failed college relationship with a brilliant painter. He's put all his pain behind him, but at a book signing, he comes face to face with Dean Winchester for the first time in twelve years, and the reunion doesn't go like Cas hoped. Dean's a broken man, with a lot of scars and secrets, shoulders weighed down by his demons and self loathing. Cas sees a second chance with the man he's never stopped loving, but Dean's moved on, and is about to get married. Sam launches a "brilliant" plan to reunite his brother and his best friend, but Cas is worried it will all blow up in their faces, and he'll go through the agony of losing Dean a second time.
The first part of this I actually saved back when I was first in the fandom but I never got around to reading it (I had a To Read folder of 100+ fics that I absolutely dove into when I got back into spn) and the rest of the series finished in 2016 so I'm counting it in this section not the other. On the one hand, I wish I'd read this when it first came out. It's beautiful and heartbreaking, and so visual. On the other hand, I think I appreciated it a lot more now than I would have seven years ago. The parallel of me coming back to the old fandom that I loved dearly with Cas coming back to see someone and places he loved so much really hit. (Although coming back to the spn fandom was much easier and much less heartbreak!)
Finale Fix-Its (yeah fuck you Dabb that this has to be a whole category)
The Goldenrod Revisions by aethylas M | 66k | 15k hits
A rewrite of Supernatural’s final two episodes, expanded into a five episode arc - in which Chuck needs to be defeated, Castiel deserves to be saved, and the characters in this story get a very different ending.
Script format re-write of 15x19 and 15x20 into a 5-episode finale fix-it. As far as I'm concerned, this and chocolatecakecas's American Pie fanvid are the Supernatural finale.
break the skin (to break the barriers)* by sobsicles M | 30k | 9k hits
The first time she meets him, he's nothing more than an almost-missed appointment. ~~~ Dean is silent for a long, tense moment, then he gruffly says, "It's not for banishing the angels. It's to summon them. So, it doesn't—it's not to get rid of 'em, but to draw 'em in." Mitzi can't help but glance up at him at that. His voice is so heavy with so much unexplained pain, and she doesn't understand why, or what angels have to do with it. She knows religion can impact people. She's very aware that it can get complicated, and that it can be a huge source of pain for someone, but Dean sounds grievously wronged, somehow, as if it's a truly personal thing. She pushes through, focusing back on her job, clearing her throat before murmuring, "Well, I guess we all want angels to visit us sometimes." "Just the one," Dean mumbles. "Your guardian angel?" Mitzi asks. Dean breathes out, "Something like that. As close to one as an angel will ever get."
Therapy through getting tattoos and telling your life story to someone who obviously doesn't think it's real. Outsider!POV not just done well, but done literally the best.
Kingdom Come by ahurston E | 17k | 10k hits
Cas wakes up on the coast of Maine. He makes his way home.
I don't know if this counts as finale fix-it as it's more fuck the finale we're ignoring that. There's just so much love and care in this fic.
The Family Business by chai_lattes M | 16k | 5.5k hits
It's all over. It's been weeks since Chuck's defeat and Cas' return from the Empty. There are no threats on the horizon, no apocalypses to stop, but there's something that keeps the Winchesters from being happy. Something that's maybe always been there. On their way back from a hunt, they find John Winchester, back from the dead.
If you're anything like me, you start rubbing your grubby little hands together at the tag John Winchester's A+ Parenting like yes let's address this! This is one of the best examples of John coming back and how it jars with the life that they have built. Also Claire and Jack getting to share screentime!
Merlin
If I have a forever fandom, it's Merlin. I've always kept one foot in this fandom, and it introduced me to fandom, and most importantly to podfic which kinda had an impact. All Merthur unless stated.

Seven Magpies by syllic (read by lunchee) E | 33k (3hr15) | 58k hits
Arthur opened his eyes a minute later to the sight of seven magpies streaking across the top of the clearing, their shapes dark against the white clouds and the muted grey of the sky. He tried to remember what it was that seven magpies meant—he'd had a nurse who had sung the rhyme to him as a child—but couldn't. Arthur wakes up somewhere he doesn't recognise, but where he clearly belongs.
Okay so this is an AU but it's Canon-AU so it's going here. Fantastic role reversal fic that you will be thinking about for weeks.

“Where’s Merlin?” he asks the maid. “Where’s that idiot of a Court Sorcerer?!” “Begging your pardon, Your Majesty. I thought you knew,” the maid replies, not daring to look him in the eyes. “He’s taken ill.” “And he couldn’t be bothered to tell me himself that he would be unable to attend today’s council meeting?” Arthur questions, voice full of acid. “He hasn’t woken since he collapsed two days ago, Sire,” the maidservant says, blissfully unaware that what she’s saying the power to stop Arthur’s heart in its tracks.
When I first read this, it had me completely transfixed. I could not stop reading. It was so raw and so full of emotion. I was then lucky enough to get TheDragon in our exchange, so I did a podfic for it and it's probably the most proud I've been of one.

The Student Prince* by FayJay (read by FayJay) M | 145k (15hrs) | 696k hits
A Modern day Merlin AU set at the University of St Andrews, featuring teetotal kickboxers, secret wizards, magnificent bodyguards of various genders, irate fairies, imprisoned dragons, crumbling gothic architecture, arrogant princes, adorable engineering students, stolen gold, magical doorways, attempted assassination, drunken students, shaving foam fights, embarrassing mornings after, The Hammer Dance, duty, responsibility, friendship and true love...
A classic is a classic for a reason. I'm also pretty sure this introduced me to podfics so like special place in my heart x2. Did you know if you filter AO3 by hits on Merlin, this has 426k more hits than the second result? Now that is a Fandom Classic.
Drastically Redefining Protocol* by rageprufrock (read by lunchee) E | 46k (5hr30) | 269k hits
In which Prince Arthur meets Merlin and all hell promptly breaks loose.
As I always say, if this can happen to me and I still love the fic, nothing is going to change that. Arthur hides from his duties in a cupboard and gets stuck in there with a chainsmoking med student.
Fundamental Imperfections by Starlingthefool (read by bravenclawsome) M | 12k (1hr35) | 123k hits
In which an argument about Dickens leads to a Twitter scandal, broken bones, midnight conversations, and transatlantic longing. (Or, an AU with Arthur and Merlin as moderately famous authors.)
This fic has everything: Charles Dickens, long distance texting, Morgana choking a Sherlock cosplayer with his own scarf. This is the ultimate comfort fic and I compare all fics to this even when they're incomparable. I never read the sequel because it was WIP and I was waiting for it to complete, it hasn't been updated since 2015 and apparently ends on an unhappy note, so if you're going to read the sequel you have been warned.

Perhaps somewhere in between all the cups of coffee, shots of tequila, sunny March days, terrible lumpy jumpers, love, cigarettes, drunken nights and the desire to change the world they'll all leave Paris with a degree in something. So there's this artist. He could probably be compared to Banksy, but he's a lot more... cynical. He shares rooms with a poet who braids his hair with flowers, in a flat near Covent Garden they rent from a short-tempered shop keeper with a penchant for fans and who'd do anything if you mentioned Poland. Sometimes, the three of them will go and deface public buildings in London whilst completely smashed off their heads. And then there's this, shall we say, 'revolutionary'. He has a band of other revolutionaries, who all meet at this cafe by Borough Market. He shares rooms with his best mate, a philosophy student, spends too much time with a flirty guy who has a thing for poets, goes boxing with a guy in a red vest, wants to punch the wet sop who drools on the blonde waitress and is getting tired of this guy who keep breaking his laptops through sheer dumb luck. Thank god the hypochondriac's there to keep an (slightly too) attentive eye on their stress levels. The revolutionary thinks the graffiti artist's work is a waste of space. The artist thinks the revolutionary's campaigns are a waste of time. And all the while, the poet and the flirt drool over each other in the background...
This is perfect and it's funny and it's beautiful and it rips my heart out multiple times.

To Be Free by kjack89 (read by Ceewelsh) Gen, Cosette/Marius | T | 3.8k (32mins) | 375 hits
Three blows from a bayonet had transfixed Combeferre’s breast, followed by a fall from the barricade as he rapidly lost first blood and then consciousness. But neither of these, it seemed, was enough to kill him, as much as later he might perhaps wish that they were.
I read this because it was on a list kjack89 did of their favourite fics which don't necessarily have the same hits traffic. It's nothing I would have usually read (canon era, not e/R, MCD) but I am so glad I gave it a go. It's a study on what if Combeferre had survived the barricades too and the guilt. This stayed with me for days afterwards until I eventually messaged kjack89 to get permission to podfic it.

my 2020 fic writer wrap-up!!
this is going to be incredibly long (a total of 1.1k lmao) so imma put a cut here, but basically thank you for being here all throughout my 2020! i appreciate you all very much <3
fav kind of fic to write:
i love writing about mutual pining slow burn process of getting together but i have NEVER WRITTEN ONE IN MY LIFE so i hope to change that in 2021
in 2020 i discovered??? humour??? so i enjoy writing about that and when people tell me i’ve succeeded in making them laugh it’s all 😳😳😳 for me
hardest fic to write but also most proud of:
to write you a song was a fic i struggled with from all of april to june which is very long?? to me??? considering i usually sit down and write things in one seating. fully fleshed ideas don’t usually take me thaaaaaat long to crunch out, but for some reason i struggled bad with this bc I really didn’t know where i was going w it lol
LA LA LAND gets an honorary mention of it’s own simply because it was 44k, and it took me all of july-september, but it’s something i still am proud of! to show how difficult it was to write/plot here’s the spreadsheet i had to use to keep track of the scenes and the chapters djkgfsjdfkjhgd
Shout out to kiroiimye , sweet , sirius and krypt for keeping my sanity intact
easiest fic to write:
this genshin impact fic: The Land Favoured by the Wind but its because ive been thinking about this idea for more than a month lol so the actual writing and editing took me less than 3 hours
there were several others too, bc ideas then to hook themselves to me then refuse to let go fjshlfgdfsg
fav fic to write:
Most definitely this sakuatsu monstrosity here by the name of Miya Atsumu's unwavering love for Sakusa Kiyoomi and an unholy amount of terrible food analogies that should not have the right to Exist lol, I only came up with the idea of Atsumu asking Osamu how to make friends bc I was friendship pining for someone at the time and then proceeded to write the entirety of it in a feverish daze! It’s as of rn my top hit / kudoed / bookmarked fic on ao3 and man, thanks for liking this as much as i did :’D
writing sequence:
i have to write from start to finish lmao i cant move on if the fic isnt chronological? the only exception was la la land bc it was too long and i had help from the spreadsheet so i alr knew where i was going i just had to write it down dfhdsfksfksdfhjg
deleting works:
the only fics i remember deleting are both first chapters of a multichap, bc i dont like having unfinished pieces on ao3, and far less if im not sure if ill finish them/if i dont know where im going w it!
if it’s dark history of shit 15 year old me wrote imma keep it there! it is an archive after all. go on, judge my fics from 5 years ago ahahahaha
best writing advice:
not a general thing and might just apply tome, but i tend to write in very convoluted ways and squish a lot in my sentences, or add to many unnecessary commas, so i received advice recently about being more mindful of the pacing and it’s helped me a lot!
worst writing advice:
none at the top of my head djgfkdsjfh if it’s bs to me i just forget it entirelyyyy
collab:
@actuallyasweetpotato (also aforementioned sweet) and i did a thing for bokuaka week!!!! you can find it here:  under my breath and into your scarf
wips:
9 unfinished zine pieces, 3 commissions, 1 exchange piece, about 10 or so other things
fav story of another writer:
favourite things
manly man falls for manliest man krbk fic!!!
gently, like a winter wind iwaoi birthday fic
sunchaser krbk fic
JUNO atsuhina fic
best review:
Tumblr media
dude i cried
and shoutout to tien , sirius for fan art, fan comics, fan animatics of fics ive written, and shoutout to akemiiiii for this song they wrote i am eternaally grateful
worst review:
no negativity today!
prequel/sequel to other people’s fics:
none at the top of my head hm, but if anything probably any of kiro skk stuff
do i reread my stuff:
yes, but only if they’re old enough for me to go “it’s okay even if i dont like it bc this is old”
published:
hopefully! even though i do take part in zines and i guess they already have been published in a broad sense
fav/least fav chara to write:
no one at the top of my head! it’s instinctive for me to go ahead and think about character motives whenever i come across them, so if i ever write about someone, i usually just put my spin/interpretation of a character in a way that i can comprehend. the pros of this is i can write about many people, and the downside is that these characterisations can come off as out of character to anyone who doesn’t agree w me hehe
deadlines or goals:
if it’s a oneshot that’s under 3k i usually aim to have it done within 24 hours of beginning the fic. even tho i rarely succeed, having that as a goal usually pushes me to get it done faster than i would have if i had no goal altogether! if it’s anything long i aim for 1k a day, tho rn all my deadlines are zine deadlines and on top of that there’s uni, so to say im not stressing about writing would be a lie LOL
fav writers: (am too shy to tag but i swear these people are literal gods)
chonideno (mag): tumblr | twitter | ao3
batman (teesta): twitter | ao3
maplefudge (raei): tumblr | twitter | ao3
trope never written, would like to try:
aforementioned SLOWBURN MUTUAL PINING ANGST W A HAPPY ENDING GETTING TOGETHER!!!
but also royalty au
trope you will never write:
haha loads
how long have you been a writer:
began writing around may of 2014!! it was a horrible piece but im glad i started somewhere
influences:
chonideno/mag is one! maggie stiefvater who wrote the raven boys is also one, among many others
hardest part of writing:
writing action? writing things that are happening right now, describing people talking, eating
easiest part of writing:
descriptions of people, places, feelings. internal monologues, the like
best part of writing:
sharing how i perceive the world w other people, and discovering other people agree
wip sneak peek:
cw: hanahaki, falling out of love
this was written in a friend’s dms lmao this is why i sound like this
Tumblr media
something unique i bring to all my stories
i had a revelation the other day after talking to all my friends and realised i have really pretentious titles
IF YOU’RE HERE
did you know the wc of this thing is 1k words? idk why you stuck through all of that but thank you. i’ll keep writing in 2021, and all the years after that, and i hope i’ll find you doing things you love too :)

How helpful is pinterest when writing? I’ve been working in a sci-fi story which I actually haven’t written on for some months now. I want to go back to it, but I can’t seem to find it in me. I have trouble describing cities and buildings, so maybe it’ll be helpful there too. Seeing other images can also give me inspiration for a myriad of things. I’ve realized I want to make it sci-fi with fantasy elements, so it’ll probably help me there too, I’d assume!
I find pinterest SO helpful. But then I’m a very visual person and a pinterest addict. So like, the platform just works for me. I can understand why it wouldn’t work for other people. So let me tell you how I use it.
I have a BILLION boards for writing and they are all titled “to write...” something. Whatever I’m talking about. Sometimes they’re about craft. Like to write stories, or to write villains. I’ve got one for nanowrimo and for poetry too.
I have pinterest board for the genres that I write. Right now that’s really romance and sci fi. I also write fantasy, but haven’t much lately, although I do have an urban fantasy that I should be querying but I’m kind of ignoring.
My first sci fi board , where I have folders for sub genres, filled up (I try to archive them when they hit 1k pins but i don’t want to archive this one because it’s a resource.)  So I started a second which I haven’t done folders for yet. This is where I put cool ideas that I might use later, that might get story ideas started. Then I have a sff characters board and that includes costumes as well as fancasting or faceclaims or names. This is so when I’m writing, I don’t have to search for characters, I’ve got my own pinboard. Also, other people are free to use them for inspiration.
My romance board is sort of like the sff board, but for romance, except I put my personal romance projects there, and that mainly is the fanfiction that I’d like to turn into original fiction, but all those projects are on hold.
Otherwise I create boards for each project that I have. That means I have them for novels I’ve finished, novels I’ve abandoned, novels that I’m in the middle of, novels that I’m planning. I have a LOT of project boards, but that doesn’t mean they’re all active projects. At least two of them are things I’d like to write but don’t have time for, and I don’t want to forget. Right now, I have two WIPS but I’m doing to write spacewitch, while to write sleepers is on hold because I can only finish one at a time, and i’m also trying to work on to write sound of silence which is a NON fiction project on writing process. The novels can now have folders for characters or settings or whatever. That’s nice, because you can get appearance and costumes and hobbies or whatever straight.
So here’s the thing. While you’re planning or researching or even just getting into the groove, you can search for new things for your project board, but ALSO, when you’re stuck or before you start writing every day, you can go over that board to get back into the mindset. Relationships, attitude, events, history, goals, personality, setting... it can all be in your pinboard.
And while I’m writing the story, I often will need to look up new things as they happen in the story. So maybe spaceships or explosions or rebellion or a new character. Those go into the board. That means that if you start at the bottom of the board, you can actually watch the plot progress. And viewing it can remind you of the entire book you’re writing.
I also have boards for my ghostwriting projects. I keep them on private, but I use them constantly. When I am researching, say types of ultralight aircraft, or menus for a Moroccan restaurant, I pin those websites to my board so I don’t lose my info. I pin pictures for mood. Examples of evening gowns or diamond rings. Remember I write contemporary romances, and they’re all billionaires. So I need billionaire details. Hello google. Hello pinterest. It also helps when I’m doing series, because I can use the same info for multiple books.
I use pinterest when I’m writing fast romances, or when I’m working on books that take years. It especially helps the long term books because it’s so easy to forget things and lose your mood. I was just looking at sleepers and I started to get excited for that book again, even though I don’t have time to write it right now. So I can just hold that excitement off and keep it in the pinboard and when I’m ready to finish that story I can do so. It’s a load off of my mind. And it helps the ghostwriting because I don’t need to hold all those details in my head.
If you look at my pinterest board, don’t get overwhelmed. I have a LOT of boards, but I separate them with the titles. Art all starts with “Art and...” Fashion all starts with “Style...” Cooking all starts with “Food...” and Writing all starts with “To Write...” Although I have boards called “The Writing Life,” (1 and 2) which is just like... mood. What it’s like to be a writer and artist. Because we have to live, not just write, right?

WIP word: Hand!
no fucking way that indigo, of all people, sent me an ask! aaaah i am truly honoured! thank you!
anyway, let’s see:
hoo boy. i’ve used it 19 fucking times. ah well, i’ll pick my favourite 3 then.
-
Byleth grabbed everything she thought she might need for the journey. Maps, clothes, food, water, and..
‘Will I really need it?’ she murmured softly, hand on the Sword of the Creator. The Hero’s Relic was one of the strongest in Fòdlan, crafted by the King of Liberation, Nemesis. Her hands picked the sword up. It still had a faint red glow, and some dried blood on the very tip. She sighed.
How many lives have I taken with this sword? Kronya, Solon, the Flame Emperor. Countless soldiers. Civilians, even. This sword.. is mine. But I don’t want to use it.
Byleth closed her eyes, and her mind took her back.
Back to the Officers Academy, with the students. Back to the battle in the Holy Tomb. Back to getting the Sword of the Creator. Back to the chapel with the Beasts and Jeralt. Being infused with Sothis’s power. Back to Edelgard’s coronation. To the war. The battle at Gronder. To Dimitri. She still remembered what Hilda said.
‘He was on the ground, surrounded by Imperial soldiers..and pierced by their spears.’
And again, to the Imperial throne room. Edelgard. The emperor. What Claude told her.
‘I daresay that I don’t fully understand the history of Fòdlan. Still, I’ve seen many things in my life. Don’t worry. I’ll finish the job for you.’
Everything..everything.
Her emerald eyes opened again, and her hands let go of the sword.
-
ohh, i remember this part! from chapter 2 of the almyran sun, ‘preparations’! i had a lot of fun writing this haha the chapter this was in was my first time writing something with a word count of 1k+, and i’m pretty sure this part had a big part to play in it lol.
to save this from getting too long, other two can be found under the cut.
thank you so much for the ask, indigo! really appreciate it <3
She smiled, still blushing.
‘You should get going. You’ll be fine, I know it. You’re the man who ended the Imperial war, for the Goddess’s sake!’
Claude smirked. ‘I think you’re forgetting something,’ he said with a wink.
‘Claude, honestly..’ Byleth sighed as her cheeks went even redder. ‘Fine. Most importantly, you’re my Golden Deer.’
He leant back, laughing. ‘There it is!’
‘I swear to the Goddess, Claude! You’re such a…’ Byleth pressed her right hand to her forehead. ’Hey, you’re the one who said you should get going!’
Claude smiled and nodded. ‘You’re right.’ He put a hand on Byleth’s shoulder. ‘I’ll be back before you know it.’
He turned around, got on the wyvern and took off.
‘Bye Claude! I love you! Stay in touch!’ Byleth shouted.
He turned his head and waved. ‘I’ll be sure to write. Be back soon!’
Byleth waved until she couldn’t see him anymore and her arms were sore. She loved him, and wished him the best.
- from chapter 4, ‘fields, mountains and remembering’!
-
'I think there's something you should see.'
Claude was stood in front of her, gesturing at the field in front of her. There were people there, merchants and travellers. But there was another group there, men and women wearing masks, brandishing shining swords, axes and daggers. Byleth's eyes widened.
'Bandits,' she breathed. 'Looks like that letter wasn't wrong.' Her right hand darted to her sword's hilt.
'Well then, shall we?' Claude said with a wink.
Byleth unsheathed her sword and ran forward, not giving him a response.
'Hmph. Alright then,' Claude muttered, pulling his bow off of his back.
-from chapter 10, ‘bandits’! this was actually my first time writing a battle scene and tbh, i don’t think it came out too bad!
-
bonus:
Byleth and Claude were sat in the castle's foyer. It was morning now, and they were waiting for the conference to start. Byleth looked over at her husband. He was visibly worried, fiddling with his hair or with his collar. She placed a hand on his shoulder and smiled.
'You'll be alright. I'm here with you, aren't I?'
Claude looked at her, and smiled back. He took her hand from his shoulder and held it in his own.
'Thanks. It's just.. it's been a while,' he said, now looking at the floor. 'What if they don't-'
Byleth cut him off. 'Don't talk like that. You've managed to convince the whole of Fodlan that this is for the best. I'm sure you'll be fine talking to this council.'
Claude gave a nervous chuckle in response. 'It's not just the council.'
'Is it not?'
He let out a quiet sigh and shook his head slightly. 'The king is also there. The main authority behind the council. And the king, well. Let's say that I don't.. have very good relations with him.'
- from chapter 13 (not actually released yet, still working on this one haha), ‘the roundtable conference’! ooh, a sort-of sneak peek, i guess?
-
if you’ve read this far, thank you again! appreciate it loads, indigo <3

40 Questions — Meme for Fic Writers
Don’t you sometimes see those ask games and wish you could just fkg do them all? On this sunny Saturday, we make our dreams reality lolol
1.  Describe your comfort zone—a typical you-fic.
Short fic, I usually get a small scene I want written so I write around it, plus I love short stories with interesting punchline.
2.  Is there a trope you’ve yet to try your hand at, but really want to?
Probably, I don’t know them all ^^’
3.  Is there a trope you wouldn’t touch with a ten foot pole?
Writing about stuff that disgust me I guess.
4.  How many fic ideas are you nurturing right now? Care to share one of them?
Like 5-6? I want to write about a restaurant but set in a world where people have powers I think the combo could be very funny. The main character has the power of insight, the plonge is a giant pool where you swim around cleaning. Backstories of characters with shitty and amazing powers and how they ended up here. Rival to lover character that has the power to see into the future.
5. Share one of your strengths.
Dialogues, subversion, and humor; classmates often said I have a touch to spin a sad story into something positive/happier.
6.  Share one of your weaknesses?
I get tired when I describe something for longer than 4 sentences.
7.  Share a snippet from one of your favorite pieces of prose you’ve written and explain why you’re proud of it.
“In what kind of trouble have we walked right into?”, I ask my companions as they’re idly fixing their attire. Together, we’ve face many perils and this mission ranks among one of the most dangerous. Yet, the others had been…how should I say it…professional! Rescuing kidnapped princesses, vanquishing terrifying monsters, quests to restore mythical artifacts, save nations from insidious plots. Oddly enough, “Does this dress make me look fat?”, is not the answer I’m looking for.
Ribbon in my hair is the first time I wrote about my knights, I first dreamt about them when I as 18, my boyfriend at the time called my idea stupid and my world building pointless so I only started writing about them when I was 21. Now I write about them a little bit every year :)
8. Share a snippet from one of your favorite dialogue scenes you’ve written and explain why you’re proud of it.
“Do you really want your last words to be complaints?”
“I die as I lived.”
“Will we become a fruit tree?”
“I don’t think so, it’s never been the case for my ancestors.”
“I’d love it if we could turn into a banana tree.”
“I’m not from the southern regions, plus I like apples more.”
“Just imagine, our fruits could have been banana flambée”
This death scene was a big finale to a story I wrote for a class in Uni, a story of war between clan of forest and volcano people, of the supposedly brutal death of a Goddess, of a mysterious apple tree whose fruit give vision of the past. I should revisit it.
9.  Which fic as been the hardest to write?
My analysis on D’Artagnan and the figure of the hero. Granted it’s an essay for school but I deeply loved it. I was too afraid to write or ask for help from the professor in charge of me (which made our relationship tense ^^’) but when I did, it was beautiful and I was very proud got 89% :D
10.  Which fic has been the easiest to write?
A play called Adelaide where an old couple reads their old fairytale book about a Prince on a quest to save a Princess. They bicker about the other misreading the story but we finally get to the part where the Prince tosses the princess apart to get a better view of the dragon of which he falls instantly in love. The book is actually their wedding album.
11.  Is writing your passion or just a fun hobby?
It’s one of my passions, but it’s not something I think I could live on so I delegated it to my hobby.
12.  Is there an episode above all others that inspires you just a little bit more?
The wedding scene in Shrek 2, my mind was blown when I saw it in theaters and when I need inspiration to write, I rewatch it.
13.  What’s the best writing advice you’ve ever come across?
Presentation is important. If trying to read you gives people headaches, they’ll stop. Choose a nice big font, space with paragraphs, be mindful of your spelling and missing words. Read out loud because some things written are bad said.
14.  What’s the worst writing advice you’ve ever come across?
I must’ve been lucky in this regard, I don’t think I’ve ever received advice that made me go NO, but I did have to listen/read stuff that made me gag.
15.  If you could choose one of your fics to be filmed, which would you choose?
I would love to the Adelaide acted out, some adjustments would be required because I’m no expert in play writing but I think I’d be great.
16.  If you only could write one pairing for the rest of your life, which pairing would it be?
Luyenor’a and Taram, names are placeholders as of now but they’re two of my knight, being the “only pairing I’m allow to write about forever” means I’d get more knight shenanigans done.
17.  Do you write your story from start to finish, or do you write the scenes out of order?
I’m doing bullets point of what I want to happen and write stuff without much order. Some days I have no inspirations for what goes in the beginning but have loads for a later point. I surf the wave when it presents itself.
18.  Do you use any tools, like worksheets or outlines?
Word on my computer, a notebook in my bag, the note app in my phone.
19. Stephen King once said that his muse is a man who lives in the basement. Do you have a muse?
I have little trinkets all around my computer to invite inspiration.
20. Describe your perfect writing conditions.
Freshly woken up, having eaten, drinking something sugary and sometimes apple cider because the alcohol help lower my inhibition.
21.  How many times do you usually revise your fic/chapter before posting?
I read out loud at least once the whole thing, helps with missing words but dude I reread my stuff on ao3 and always find mistakes still ^^’
22. Choose a passage from one of your earlier fics and edit it into your current writing style. (Person sending the ask is free to make suggestions).
I’m not going to put here because it’s in French and I don’t want to translate now but I wrote Vision of a world, mine when I was 16 and damn was I already depressed then?
23.  If you were to revise one of your older fics from start to finish, which would it be and why?
The Princess and the Soldier, some gay fairytale I think my first one, I’m sure I can do better bow
I also have one about a janitor and it’s a murder mystery I could redo
24. Have you ever deleted one of your published fics?
Once by accident, I was so angry I never rewrote it.
25.  What do you look for in a beta?
I don’t really use beta (beta reader right?) but I guess I’ve had like 3-4 when I was in Uni and had to read people’s wip and they read mine. They’d talk about what they liked, links they noticed, things that seemed weak or to change
26.  Do you beta yourself? If so, what kind of beta are you?
I usually just point out the stuff I like
27.  How do you feel about collaborations?
For a class in college, we had to act out a play we wrote collectively. Ten sketches written in pairs/alone. I made sure I was alone so I wouldn’t be saddled with someone else to write my sketch
28. Share three of your favorite fic writers and why you like them so much.
I don’t follow fic writers; I just am in a mood for a ship and read what’s available. I do like my friend @alumort ‘s fics tho ^^
29.  If you could write the sequel (or prequel) to any fic out there not written by yourself, which would you choose?
There was a Phineas and Ferb fic focused on Perry I really loved. Their world building was something I’d never seen and they abandoned the story, so I did fanfic of a fic. Never dared to post it anywhere I mean it was their world to begin with.
30.  Do you accept prompts?
Of course, when inspiration is given I accept
31.  Do you take liberties with canon or are you very strict about your fic being canon compliant?
I don’t care about canon but I do love using it when there are little trivia to enrich the character.
32.  How do you feel about smut?
Love to read it sometimes, would love to write it. Some I’m like………….youveneverhadsexhaveyou…………………
33.  How do you feel about crack?
Love it!!!!!!!! I’m too self-conscious to write it tho. Oh maybe that could be a never before written trope I could try?
34.  What are your thoughts on non-con and dub-con?
Rape I can’t, dub-con where underlying requited feelings exist but anxiety™ don’t let the characters express them but they’re drunk so it surfaces is okay
35.  Would you ever kill off a canon character?
Hell yeah! I do when/if the death makes sense (I am still pissed at Kishi for Neji)
36.  Which is your favorite site to post fic?
Ao3 is where I post,I used devianart when I had one
37.  Talk about your current wips.
Marry Me for the Love of Cake: God I’m so sorry to the few people who followed it, I said I’d pick it up before the end of 2019 and well……I have the ending in bullet points
Yours, with Love: I hope I’ll finish it…I have most of the ending in bullet points
I guess I’m into rom com at the moment lolol
38.  Talk about a review that made your day.
I made my best friend read All this for a Roll Cake, and she laughed so much at my work, I took a picture I look at from time to time to remain humble.
39.  Do you ever get rude reviews and how do you deal with them?
Thankfully I’ve never received a rude review. My professor once told me it seemed kinda unnatural how unlucky my protagonist was vs. how lucky his love interest was (All this for a Roll Cake) but that was the whole point of the story so I just ignored her.
40.  Write an alternative ending to [insert fic title] (or just the summary of one).
Writing this I realised I lost my final version of All this for a Roll Cake T^T so I guess I’d rewrite the ending I have of the before the last version I still have.
Well this was fun ^^ got to revisit my works and remember many beloved pieces of fiction I wrote, I look forward to my next projects

My Best Friend Pt.01
Too Young
01/23/2019
Pairing: Steve x Reader          Word Count: 4,257
Masterpost in Notes     Warnings: Language, pining, angst, some fluff
A/N: This fic came to me as a dream. It was a dream that I did not get to finish and have been wanting to write out because it actually followed a really good story until I woke up and it left me wondering what would have happened next. The first two chapters will be the dream I had and the last chapter will probably be the ending I would have hoped for. I hope you guys like this. Just a small mini-series in between my two big WIP fics. It should be noted that the disease that the reader has is the one that I have, Endometriosis. As it was me in the dream and the endo played a big part in it, I’ve decided to keep it in. As always, if you happen to reblog, thank you so much for helping me spread my work! xoxo
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You groan, moaning and kicking as you struggle to pull yourself up off of the floor.
“Would you keep your voice down? You sound like you’re having sex.” A tight-lipped voice says out of the corner of two pink lips, the bottom thick and juicy, the top slightly thinner but curved up in amusement.
“How do you know what I sound like when I have sex?” You grunt and then stop, whining as you give up and let the heavy weight ball fall onto your chest. “Please, help me!”
You pretend to cry and continue to whimper as you wait for assistance.
A heavy sigh, a soft chuckle, and then suddenly, hovering over you are a pair of storm blue eyes. Steve Rogers leans over you, his hands on his hips as he watches you whimper on the ground.
“You’re being dramatic.” He tells you and you glare at him for a second.
“And you didn't answer my question.”
As he continues to watch you, trapped underneath the large 45-pound weight ball, your glare slowly transitions into a pout as he smiles down at you, soft strands of his blonde hair falling onto his misted forehead.
Here are the facts. One: Steve Rogers is your best friend.
Two: You and Steve have known each other for years. You were there, as an intern, as he was pulled from the ice. You helped bring him back to life. You were glad to not have played a part in that stupid showroom he’d been put in, but you’d been outside, and he’d been so confused when he broke out that you were instantly sympathetic.
Three: Steve Rogers did not like you. Not immediately. It took persistence. Lots of it. You forced him out. You kept an eye on him and ambushed him at restaurants and cafes so that he wouldn’t be alone. It took almost a year but finally Steve Rogers didn’t dislike you. In fact, Steve Rogers looked for you. He sought you out for your opinions and suggestions. Soon after that, he just sought you out to not be alone.
Four: Steve had seen all of your ups and down. You’d been engaged before, then dumped. Dated and dumped. Dated and dumped. It’s been a rough couple of years in that department, but Steve has been there after every disappointment with a pint of ice cream and your favorite movie.
Five: You’ve tried to get Steve to date. Apparently so had his other friend, Natasha. The Black Widow. Neither of you wanted him to be alone. He needed to get back into the world. He’d been so distanced from the world, connecting only with the job and neither you nor Natasha (despite the fact that you and she have never officially met) want that kind of life for him. Of course, she’d been probably slightly more motivated to get him a date because if you’re honest…
Six: You are completely in love with Steve Rogers.
“You look like you could use some help, miss. May I be of assistance?” Steve teases.
“Steve!” You complain and push against the weight ball, struggling against it.
“Alright, alright.” He says, chuckling as he grabs the ball and lifts it off of you.
He tosses away the ball then turns back to you to offer you his hands to help you up onto your feet.
“Why are you so interested in getting fit, anyway? You never were before.” Steve wonders, turning and moving towards the leg press.
You follow, rubbing the spot on your chest where the weight ball had been resting. You stop when he does and then watch as he loads weight after weight.
“I don’t know. I’m just…” You can’t lie to Steve.
You’d been about to tell him that you’re just trying to get in shape. That you want to look good for the next guy who has enough courage to date you. But you can’t get yourself to say it, no matter how much you want to keep from showing him your newest cracks.
He freezes in his load up and watches your smile fall.
“Y/N?” He asks gently, seeing your mood shift.
“I didn’t expect for this thing I was diagnosed with to change my life as much as it has. Getting fit…I never worried about it before and now, I’m lucky if I can get out of bed in the morning.” You shrug and move to sit by the seat of the leg press.
Steve watches you, blinking slowly as he processes your words. As you sit, you force your lips into a smile.
“What are you doing?” Steve asks, smiling as you sit yourself down on the floor, and obviously moving on from the uncomfortable talk of your illness.
He knows you don’t like talking about it and if you want to move from it, he's not going to stop you.
“I’m sitting down so you can do your workout.” You gesture at the machine, overloaded with weights.
“You’re supposed to be working out, not gabbing away with me.” Steve points at you, chastising you playfully, and sits himself down, angling his body so that he can put his feet in place.
“Yeah, well, that weight ball kicked my ass.” You lean back on your hands and turn to watch him.
You’ve gotten proficient at focusing when you’re around Steve. You keep a nice line drawn in the figurative sand so that he can’t tell that you’re completely smitten. But in moments like this one, as Steve pushes against the weights, his muscles constricting and flexing, it’s hard to remember that line.
“Steve?” You probe, shifting to sit facing him, still leaning back on your hands, suddenly very nervous because any time you ask Steve these kinds of questions…well, you’re a little scared, a little excited, but very worried that Steve will see though you one day.
In reality…would that be such a bad thing?
“Yeah?” He asks, grunting. He’d seriously overloaded that machine.
You watch as the machine groans against the amount of weight that he’d put. He has to really pack it on for it to do anything for him. “You’re going to break that leg press. Again.”
He stops, huffs a laugh, then reaches up to wipe at the sweat on his forehead. He hardly ever sweats. Why is he trying so hard?
“I always replace them.”
Still. You make a mental note to send in a request to maybe have a special leg press made for Steve so that it won’t break so easily.
“S.H.I.E.L.D. replaces them.” You point out.
“Is that what you were going to ask me?” He asks, pushing passed your poking but also knowing you well enough to know that you nagging at him about breaking the workout equipment was not what you had intended to say.
“No.”
“Well?” Steve urges you, going back to his workout.
“When was the last time you went out on a date?”
He drops the weights and they clang loudly.
“This again? You and Nat, I swear.” He grumbles.
“Well, we’re worried about you.” And you really are…but…
“I don’t want to go on a date.” He says, a note of finality in his tone.
He should know better. You don’t drop this particular subject easily.
“Why?”
“I just don’t want to.”
“But why?”
The weights clang again as he stops, frustrated with your persistent probing.
“I’m just not in the right headspace for dating, Y/N. I don’t want to see anyone right now. I don’t have the time.” Steve argues.
“That's such bullshit. When you like a girl, you make time for her. You shift your priorities. You can even stop seeing me so much. I’m a huge time suck.” You point out.
“Not an option.” He grunts.
“Come on, Steve. I’ll help, yeah?” You push yourself up, trying to ignore the happiness that it gives you that he's not willing to cut down his hang out time with you, and move to sit yourself on the oddly angled leg press seat.
You try not to let your heart flutter too much as Steve makes room for you quickly and then as you slide down towards the lower end of the seat, Steve lifts his arm and rests it across your lap as he sighs in frustration.
“I don’t need help. I need to finish my workout.” His hand finds your thigh and he rests it there softly, flat against your leg.
Focus Y/N.
“Trust me, you need help. Now, what are you looking for? Blonde? Brunette? Redhead? Skinny? Chubby? Straight up voluptuous?” You look around the gym and point out the body types you see.
“Y/N…” Steve begs, irritated.
“Fine. Forget looks. What about height? Short? Really short? Tall? Just right?”
“Y/N.” He says more sternly.
“Would you stop being such a grumpy old man and just play along for a little bit? Sheesh.” You growl.
You jump slightly as Steve smacks your leg. Not enough to make it hurt, just enough to grab your attention. Clearly chastising you, though.
“Hey, don’t call me an old man.”
“Well, stop acting like one.” You grumble.
The two of you stare at each other, both frowning.
“Hey, what are you two talking about?” You look up at the slightly accented voice and smile up at Annie Wong, S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent on loan from the Hong Kong office.
She's beautiful, Chinese, with long black hair pulled up into a ponytail, no makeup, dressed in standard issue S.H.I.E.L.D. logo tights. Her body is crazy nice. Fit. Tight. And in that racerback tank top and tights, she looks really good.
“I’m trying to get Steve a date.” You tell Annie. You’re her guide here, of sorts.
She's actually really nice and the two of you have hit it off really well.
She scoffs, then laughs at you.
“Good luck with that.” Then she looks at Steve. “Try not to disappoint her, she gets moody when she doesn’t get her way.”
“Don't I know it?” Steve agrees.
“Hey!” You throw your left elbow back so that it jams into his side and he laughs, looking at you as he reaches behind your back to rub that spot with his right hand.
“Can I please finish my workout now?” Steve begs, throwing his head back.
“No.” As Steve's hand squeezes your thigh again you can’t help but think about how great this really is. Sitting here with Steve's arm practically around you…nestled in against his side.
For a quick fleeting moment, you imagine that Steve really does want to hold you right here, his arm itching to be thrown around your waist. Maybe his lips even find your neck?
“Y/N?” He asks, noticing your silence.
Annie is already at a treadmill, running.
“What about age? That’s a good one. You don’t want someone too old.” You point out. “Young would be better in your case, with that slow aging and all that.”
“Young?”
“Twenty?” You ask.
“Too young.” He says.
“Twenty-four?”
“Too young.”
“Twenty-six?”
“Too young.”
“Seriously? Fifty then!” You offer, exasperated by his pickiness.
He looks at you, frowning.
“Sixty?” You shrug.
He laughs.
“Why are you laughing? I’m trying to find you a date and you’re making it impossible.”
“Sorry.” He says, with another squeeze to your thigh.
“Let's not focus on the exact number and instead a type. What about…?” Your eyes wander around the large gym room, an array of agents and clerical workers getting their fit on.
Inspiration suddenly strikes as your eyes land on Annie. She's definitely more fit than you are but you and Annie are the exact same age, your birthdays only a month apart.
“What about Annie? Or someone like Annie?” You ask, hoping you’re not being obvious.
Steve sighs heavily, clearly done with this game. He looks over at her and shakes his head.
“Too young.”
Too young. Too young. Too young?!
You can’t help the disappointment that fills you, it darkens your mood almost instantly. How long have you pined over this guy? How much time have you spent with him? Not that those moments were a waste…but…too young?
Your heart aches as you suddenly realize that Steve is never going to want you. You’re too young apparently and now with your diagnosis, no one will want you. You’re useless. Today, today is a good day. A day with little pain.
Your first day out in over two weeks.
“Can I finish my workout now?” He asks, looking at you, leaning to his left to get a better look at your face.
No. He can’t look at you. He'll see your crestfallen expression, your sadness that you’ll never be with him.
“Yeah, sorry I bugged you.” You grab his wrist and lift it off of your lap.
You move away from him, not looking back as you move towards Annie.
“Hey, wait, Y/N.” Steve calls out but you don't stop or look back. You climb up onto the treadmill beside Annie and start a slow jog.
“What happened? Couldn’t find anyone good enough for him?” Annie asks.
When you don’t answer she looks over at you.
“Ugh! Didn’t I tell him not to make you moody?” Annie asks, frowning.
You look at her as you jog, pulling the sleeves of your oversized hoodie up, trying to ignore the way you get hot extra fast thanks to your sweatpants.
She looks over at Steve and starts to motion emphatically at him. You don’t look to see if he's responding or what she might possibly be saying. You focus on reminding yourself of your proper place at Steve's side as nothing more than that pesky intern turned archivist who would never be more to him than just a friend.
For two hours you focus. Two hours! You remind yourself of the looks he's given those girls, the agents who work around him. The ones that could kick your ass. Looks that he's very good at hiding from everyone else but you because you’re always hoping he'll look your way.
You remind yourself of the nights you and Steve had slept in the same bed. He'd come home from a particularly exhausting mission and because you always called and demanded to see him immediately, he would come over without hesitation and then collapse on your bed in exhaustion.
Every morning you'd wake up and he was always on the sofa as if sleeping beside you was so unbearable he had to move in the night. And then there were the times that the two of you would wake up in the middle of the night and talk. Just chat about how hard the mission was or how tough it had been for you at work, both of you smiling, laughing, and commiseration a mere foot apart.
How many times had the two of you gone quiet on the bed? How many times had your heart pounded as he lay there, arms either under his pillow as he lay on his stomach or at the base of his chest when he laid on his back, his blue eyes boring into yours and never, not once did anything happen?
No kiss. No hug. No confession. No hand holding. Nothing.
Face it, Y/N. You’ve been friend zoned.
You finally push the large red button on your machine and follow it into a slow stop.
You look to the one beside yours and find that Annie is gone. She'd probably been gone for a while.
You scan the large room for her and find her by the bench press with Steve. He's sitting, looking up at Annie as she leans on the metal bar, talking casually as he curls his large arms, lifting what has to be about two hundred pounds. How did he even fit all those weights on that one bar?!
You pull your sleeves down and as you move towards them, you feel a small bit of pressure on your lower back. Had you pushed yourself too hard?
You ignore the discomfort as best you can because you want to hear what they’re saying.
“…it's only a month apart so we thought a joint party would be good.” Annie finishes with a shrug.
Fuck! She’s telling him about the party tonight.
“That’s a good idea.” Steve says, then when he spots you approaching he grins as wickedly as Captain America can…which is not very wicked.
It just makes him look like a cute, troublemaking toddler. Stupid goody two-shoes and his sweaty forehead and torso. That white shirt is starting to cling.
“Did you ask Y/N before you started to plan a joint party? She might throw a fit, you know how she likes to be the center of attention.” Steve teases.
He looks over at you as you stop, shoving your hands into the front pocket of your hoodie, with that same mischievous grin.
You don't smile. Right now…you just can't.
Instead you stare at him and your eyes helplessly wander over his lips. They linger there for only a second before you force them down to his chest, stomach, then lap where they stay since that spot is fairly safe at the moment.
When you don’t laugh and because you also don’t say anything in response to his poking fun, the atmosphere between the three of you grows awkward.
“Uh, well,” Annie says, quickly moving on. “ Y/N got permission to get a new sound system for the Black Pearl ballroom-"
“That’s the smallest one, right?” Steve asks. “Shouldn’t you have asked for a bigger one? I can still call Tony, see if he'll let you use one of the ones on floor seventy-nine?”
“I don’t have that many friends.” You tell him, looking back up at his face.
He's still watching you, his brow slightly furrowed. Is he worried? Confused? Probably confused. In all the time you and Steve have been friends you have been angry at him only two or three times and it was always because you were worried. He could be reckless on missions and came back more injured than you liked.
Now, you just can’t make yourself act normal. What's wrong with you?
“I’ll get the rest of the Avengers to come.” He offers.
“I’ve never even met anyone other than Sam.” You point out. “Why would they come to my birthday party?”
“I don’t know, I just thought-"
“We've already ordered the food based on our current headcount.” You throw out.
“Oh, right.” Steve says sounding slightly disappointed.
Once again silence falls between you two and it's just as awkward and tense as before. Which is super weird for you and Steve.
Annie hurries to save the conversation.
“You’re coming, right?” She asks Steve.
Steve finally looks away from you at Annie but before he can answer-
“Yo, Cap!” Sam's voice filters down from the second floor.
All three of you turn to look and find him leaning casually against the railing.
“Mission time. We gotta go.” He says. “Hi Y/N.”
He drags your name out, waving at you like he's teasing a kid about wetting his pants or something.
“Hi, Sam.” You reply, still no smile.
“Hey, Annie. You wanna come? We could use some extra hands.” Sam says, smiling a bit more flirtatiously with Annie.
Of course, even Sam doesn’t see you as a woman to flirt with. Not that you want him to but jeez.
“Sorry, Sam. Y/N and I have plans tonight. We're throwing our birthday party. We sent you an invite, did you not get it?” She asks. “Sorry it's so last minute.”
“Oh, damn, yeah. I got it. I forgot that was tonight.” And he does look genuinely disappointed to be missing your shared party.
“Don't worry about it, Sam. It's not important.” You assure him.
“What are you talking about? We'll get this mission done quick and be back in time for the cake.” He assures you but winks at Annie. “But seriously, Steve, we gotta go. I already got your suit in the jet.”
“Okay, I’m coming.” Steve tells him.
“I’ll see you girls later.” Sam promises, slaps the metal railing, then disappears to the right towards the elevators.
“I gotta go.” Steve says, putting the barbell down and standing up.
“Of course. Good luck, Steve.” Annie says with a smile.
“I’ll make it to your party, Y/N.” He says a little more quietly, talking just to you. “I promise. I'll put a rush on the mission.”
You look up at his sweaty face, his blue eyes searching yours for something. Forgiveness? Reassurance? Anger?
All you have for him is disappointment. Not just for the party but because you're Annie's age…and she's too young.
“For what? So you can do something reckless and mess up because you’re trying to get back on time?” And you really do want him at the party. You want to see him and dance with him, and laugh and talk and smile but your mouth opens up and all you can say is, “Don’t bother.”
You can feel Annie's eyes on you as she realizes how bad the mood you’re in actually is.
Steve’s face falls more and he takes a step towards you, apparently hating this dark mood you’re in too but before he can open his mouth, Sam's voice calls out again.
“Steve!”
With a heavy sigh, Steve gives you just one final confused look before he races around and up the stairs and also disappears towards the elevators.
“I’m gonna go shower.” You tell Annie as you begin to walk towards the showers.
“Y/N, are you okay? Should I come with you?” She offers, eager to make you feel better.
But this mood, it's like you’ve been infected. Maybe all the pining had finally just caught up with you?
“Why? Can't I shower by myself? Maybe I need adult supervision, right? I’m only Y/A.” You say with a bitter bite to your words but it's mostly just sad.
Annie doesn’t follow you.
As you make your way up the stairs, you suddenly feel another heavy bit of pressure in your lower back and a very sharp stab of pain near your nether regions. It shocks your feet into a stutter but luckily you catch yourself on the railing and avoid tumbling down the stairs.
You breathe lit a quick, sharp breath as the pain slowly subsides then move along.
As you shower, you rejoice in the fact that here in the showers, you can cry and no one can see your tears. Not to mention, the hot water helps with the aches you’re beginning to feel.
So many years of being friends. You'd always harbored this small bit of hope that something might happen between you and Steve. The disappointment, the heartache you feel as you finally realize that it will never happen is overwhelming.
So you release your dark mood with tears, letting them wash away into the shower drain with the rest of your sweat and grime.
You also realize that you can’t be mad at Steve. Not really. You shouldn’t be mad at him just because he doesn’t see you in that way. It's not fair to him and it's not fair to your years of friendship.
But it hurts! Your heart complains.
Feeling silly for being such an ass to Steve before he left on mission—oh, God, what if he does something stupid and gets himself seriously hurt and the last thing you told him was not to bother?!—you move out to your locker with a towel wrapped around your torso and hair.
Like this, you might pass for anyone. Especially in a foggy bathroom with other women in just their towels.
As you rifle through the extra clothes you’d packed in your locker, two of those S.H.I.E.L.D. agent girls Steve looks at discreetly walk in, wrapped in towels too.
“They're always together. They have to be dating or at the very least screwing.” The shorter of the two says.
“Don’t be stupid. Like she could ever satisfy him? She got dumped at the altar too, remember? And anyway, I was working out on the leg press behind them when they were sitting looking all cuddly and she was seriously asking him what he liked in women.” The tall one says.
“Really? You’re not just saying that to make me feel better?” Shortie asks.
“No, I swear. She was listing off things like hair color and body type. She was trying to find him a date. And ‘sides, did you see what she was wearing? Who comes to the gym dressed like that if you’re dating Captain America? No one. That's who. She's obviously not trying. And I’ve seen him checking you out.”
“Oh my God, seriously?!”
“Yes! Trust me, she's totally not his type. He needs someone more…adult. Mature. Someone who can show him how to maneuver the curves.” The tall one says as she reaches over and playfully traces her friend's sides.
Shortie laughs and you grip the handle of your locker more tightly.
“Anyway, she's too young. Or so it sounded like he was saying.”
“He told her she was too young?” Shortie asks.
“Not directly. But she suggested some girls and well, she's around the same age I think. So, make your move! That loser obviously has no chance.”
The two girls disappear into the showers as your mind is flooded with two words that effectively transition your sadness into bitter resentment. Two words that repeat over and over and over and over: Too young.

Evens for the WIP meme ask? Thank you! ❤️
Hi, thanks for the ask! Since the number of WIPs I have are well into double figures, I’ll probably just choose a bunch of random ones for these out of the ones I’ve got on my computer.
2. Post a line from your WIP without context.
Once they had returned home, he had wanted nothing more than to head up to his room and hide, but his uncle’s iron grip on his upper arm pulling him into the drawing room had thwarted that wish. He hadn’t dared fight against the man. Uncle Cary had made it quite clear upon his arrival back from school that he expected to be obeyed in all matters, and George knew his future was far too uncertain to risk provoking his only remaining family member with displays of defiance.
4. Describe the setting of your WIP.
Hmm, I think I’ll go for my JS&MN AU for this one, an extract of which I have posted here. So this is basically an AU set in the universe of the novel Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell--for anyone who might be unfamiliar with it, it’s a book (and a pretty decent TV adaptation) set in a regency England where magic was once frequently practised but has declined after the Raven King, a medieval magician who conquered the north of England with a fairy army, left his kingdom behind to return to Faerie. The fic is set in Poldark’s s1 timeline, so about fifteen/twenty years before the events of JS&MN canon, featuring Dwight, Ross and Francis as magicians, George as a fairy nobleman from a neighbouring Faerie kingdom, and Elizabeth as a magician’s wife whom George ends up taking an interest in.
6. Search for the word “dream” in your WIP. If you find it, paste the line and explain the context.
I haven’t been able to find it in any of the extracts I have on my computer, but I’m sure it’s probably there somewhere in one of my notebooks. Unfortunately the majority of those are in a box over three hundred miles away so I can’t really check through them ha.
8. What is your biggest challenge?
Actually getting anything finished. Honestly, it depends on the individual fic but for a long time it’s been writer’s block. My undergrad dissertation took a lot out of me and I wasn’t really in the mood for writing for a long time afterwards. S5 airing gave me a bit of a kick up the arse writing-wise though, so I’d say my biggest challenge at the moment is trying to figure out where everything goes in my super long post s5 AU where George gets shot by Hanson. At the moment I’ve just got loads and loads of random bits with only a vague idea of what order they go in and how they join up to each other, and it’s getting to be so long I just keep putting off planning it out properly. Also finishing that last chapter of The Cornish Way damn I can’t even remember when I last updated that I feel so guilty about it ha.
10. How would you describe your WIP’s narrative style?
Well, as I’ve already mentioned I have a whooole bunch of WIPs, but I always write in 3rd person (1st person grates on me, both reading and writing, for some reason--I don’t know why). I’ve got several multi-chap fics in the works, some short, some long. Most of my shorter multi-chap fics tend to alternate between Elizabeth’s POV and George’s, but my long post s5 AU will feature the majority of the characters’ POVs at some point, depending on when they’re needed, though since the fic is George-centric, his perspective is the main one. When it comes to my one-shots, they’re usually either from George or Elizabeth’s perspectives, sometimes both if it’s a particularly long one. I tend to lean towards using Elizabeth’s POV for one-shots for some reason, but there’s a fair few from George’s as well, and a couple of angsty ones told entirely from Valentine’s perspective.
12. Which character do you have the least in common with?
Since my post s5 AU includes Merceron, Hanson and Dr Penrose, I’m glad to say that I haven’t the slightest thing in common with any of those three. But if we’re talking about a main character, I’d say probably Ross. The only thing I have in common with him is a tendency to get fed up at parties ha.
14. Have you chosen birthdays for any of your characters? If so, when are they?
Not really--tbh, I’m not sure how many of them, if any, were given birthdays by WG. I tend to headcanon George’s birthday as being in October, but that’s about it.
16. What would your characters be for Hallowe’en?
Well, I’ve got a couple of WIPs set in the modern era which this could work for, but since one of them is a modern witchcraft AU (in which Elizabeth, Caroline, Demelza, Morwenna and Verity live together in Truro as a secret coven of witches, Francis is a melancholy ghost who haunts the building and they’ve never been able to exorcise, and George, their landlord’s nephew, is their baffled neighbour who only puts up with their weird shenanigans because he has a soft spot for Elizabeth), I guess that’s appropriately Hallowe’en-y ha. For that AU, I reckon Elizabeth would probably dress up as something kind of classy, like as an Ancient Greek lady or a medieval queen, something like that. Caroline would dress up as a witch, I reckon, for the sake of irony (Horace, of course, would have a complementary costume :P). Verity, I think, would make a cute angel, and one of those wood nymph/woodland fairy costumes would probably suit Demelza. Morwenna might dress up as a Hogwarts student or something like that, and Francis insists that since he is an actual, literal ghost, there’s no need for him to dress up. George, on the other hand, absolutely does not do Hallowe’en, but they still manage to drag him down from the flat upstairs, put a pair of little Devil horns on him and make him watch scary films with them. Which he hates every minute of. Absolutely. Totally.
18. What’s easier, dialogue or description?
It depends, but I generally find description easier than dialogue. When I have dialogue-heavy scenes to write, I generally write them out in my notebooks basically in script form so I can figure out where the scene is going and once that’s out of the way, I find it much easier to add all the description in around it rather than having to constantly stop to figure out what the characters are meant to be saying to each other.
20. Post a brief excerpt.
So there’s a whole load to choose from, but I’ve decided to go with this one, which is from a ghost Elizabeth AU I’ve been working on ever since the end of s4 and have been really struggling to get on with because there’s so much bloody angst in it ha :--
The days leading up to Christmas dragged slowly on, and with each long hour that passed, George found himself regretting his decision to allow their initial plans for the festivities to go ahead with ever increasing certainty. The Blameys were neither unkind nor insensitive—quite the opposite in fact; their presence seemed to restore some faint but much needed cheer to Geoffrey Charles, and the company of another boy near his own age had restored Valentine to a fraction of his usual liveliness—but he, who had never been a friend to Verity, and was not well acquainted with her husband or stepchildren, felt the constant pressure of their scrutiny, alongside the horrible awareness of his own inadequacy as their host, whenever he found himself in their company. Verity, in particular, had taken to sending him at frequent intervals, whenever she saw him decline a meal, or else stumbled across him staring up at Elizabeth’s portrait hanging above the mantelpiece in the drawing room, what he had come to refer to in his mind as Looks. Verity had always been a kind and well-meaning soul, but there was a distinct pitying quality to those Looks which he had come to both resent and despise. He could have far more easily borne it if she had scorned his conduct. Her pity, however, wounded what little care he could summon for his pride in the wake of Elizabeth’s loss—he had no need to be reminded of the wretched creature he was fast becoming every time he met her gaze.
Finally, after what seemed like an age, the morning of Christmas Eve came. It had snowed once again during the night, and upon seeing the unblemished blanket of white through the window upon waking, Valentine and young master Andrew had rushed outside, accompanied by the Blameys Senior and Junior and Geoffrey Charles, in order to enjoy it. As the young Esther, whom it had not taken George long to discover was somewhat reticent in nature, had elected to break her fast in her room, that, unfortunately, left he and Verity alone together at the dining table, save for little Ursula, who was playing quietly and contentedly with her own feet in her cradle beside his chair. At barely a few weeks old, however, she was not quite an accomplished enough conversationalist to distract Verity from engaging with him. With a barely audible sigh, George reached for a slice of toast despite his lack of appetite in a vague hope of fending off another Look which he was sure was on the verge of rearing its unwelcome head above the horizon.
“I am glad to see that the boys have regained a little of their usual cheer,” she spoke up suddenly, causing George to pause halfway towards taking a bite out of his unwanted toast; a glance her way confirmed that, despite his best efforts, he was being treated to what could only be described as a Look. “It is a terrible thing to lose one’s parent, no matter one’s age, and certainly not a burden one should face so early in life.”

Misc WIP Folder
So I’m going through my WIPs folder’s subfolders.
One is labelled Misc, so that’s the one I’m going through now. Everything will be below the cut because this will probably be a long post, there are sixteen files in this folder.
Most of them are from different fandoms, so I’ll put what fandom it’s in + what title I have for it in my folder in bold before I talk about it. I’ll be going from oldest to newest. Technically not because I can’t sort Google docs like that, but rather “last modified by me” so, longest abandoned to newly abandoned I guess?
Also Spoilers for any of the fandoms, maybe? Probably.
If you have any questions about any of the fandoms, message me or send me an ask. I’m open to talking about any and all of them.
Fandoms Involved (Ordered by appearance):
Murdered: Soul Suspect (Video Game)
Trollhunters: Tales of Arcadia (TV Show)
Gravity Falls (TV Show)
Until Dawn (Video Game)
Avatar: The Last Airbender (TV Show)
The Mummy (2017) & (1999) (Movies)
Assassination Classroom (TV Show/Anime)
Red vs. Blue (Online Show- Rooster Teeth)
Camp Camp (Online Show - Rooster Teeth)
Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency (TV Show)
Devil May Cry (Video Game + Anime)
Aladdin (2019) (Movie)
Castlevania (TV Show)
Murdered: Soul Suspect - MSS
So there isn’t much in this one, just a bullet pointed outline. Murdered Soul Suspect is a video game, if you don’t know it and are curious you can google it or message me.
Anywho. This is just a little part I thought was funny.
Tumblr media
It’s essentially a Ronan survives AU of the game, pretty standard and I thought it would be fun. Honestly this part about Ronan and his cracked spine just reminded me of Obi-wan and how I write him in ignoring his injuries (and how most people write him) so it made me laugh a bit.
There’s really not much here, I didn’t even finish the outline.
Trollhunters: Tales of Arcadia - trollhunters au
I am very creative with my titles. Clearly. This is another bullet point outline. but this one is longer and irrc I actually started writing this, and that file would also be in this folder so if I did write it’ll also be featured on this post.
This is an au where Claire is the trollhunter rather than Jim.
Tumblr media
The top bit is literally just for context on the next star point. Anywho Writing AAARRRGGGHH/ seeing it spelled out is funny to me. Also I’m pretty sure I rewatched bits with AAARRRGGGHH with subtitles on to see how it was spelt and then replicated that.
The second star point is funny to me because I describe annoyance/anger (rightful, both of them) as pissy. And that’s funny.
There’s more but if I’m write and I wrote it out, then that’ll be featured later.
Gravity Falls - Gravity Falls
... Okay I’m not creative with titles until I have to be. Once more, bullet point outline. So this is an after-canon AU where Bill left a remanent of himself in Dipper and it’s become apparent when they’re in Piedmont.
Tumblr media
I just like the rules I had Dipper give Bill. I thought they were neat. Also, I like Mabel convincing Dipper to let Bill live because he’s pathetic. This is a demon who has tormented them for an entire summer, but nows he’s pathetic so lets help him.
Not much of interest in this. I probably didn’t write it because it’d be a long and day-in-the-life type fic. It’d just be Dipper and Bill coexisting and going through life and IDK how well I’d of written that. So I didn’t write it.
Until Dawn- Until DAwn AU
FYI I’m keeping the titles case-sensitive. Another bullet outline. So this is a Josh survives/exorcised AU, also an Everybody Live AU. I’m pretty sure I wrote this when I was heavily invested in Until Dawn and Josh (because I like him.) And I was reading Until Dawn fanfic in which Josh is blamed for what happened on the mountain. And I think I was getting pissy which lead to this:
Tumblr media
So in this AU the Until Dawn Group splintered into Sam, Josh & Chris, and Mike, Emily, Jess, Matt & Ashley. So this conversation/fight is between Chris and the second group. So Chris is the 1st,3rd and 5th talking bullet point. I don’t know who’s talking in the 2nd &4th bullet point but it’s one of the second group. Probably Emily, Mike or Jess maybe. Not Ashley.
Im 90% sure that I wrote out this entire outline just for this little interaction.
It just tickles my id. I still kind of like it, but I honestly don’t know what else I’d write for this AU.
Avatar: The Last Airbender - Zuko is the avatar
Title is self-explanatory. Also, I really like bullet outlines. So. Anywho.
Aang is still a 12 year old in this, he used up all his “avatar energy” (that’s literally what I wrote) to keep himself alive so he’s just an airbender now.
Tumblr media
I just love Iroh. And this is just funny to me.
If I ever wrote this, it’d be a lot of hijinks of Katara and Aaang (and eventually Toph) covering for Zuko whenever he bends anything other than fire. More cracky than serious.
“The Mummy (2017)” and “The Mummy (1999)” - Mummy x Mummy
I watched the 2017 version of the mummy (got it from the library for 2 bucks) and since there are some throwbacks to the 1999 movie I decided to try to combine them. This also became an AU where Evie and Rick save Imhotep in Mummy 2, and due to Evie being revived meant she was functionally immortal (doesn’t age, but can still be killed). And due to everything, by the Mummy 2017 rolls around it’s just her and Imhotep hanging around, investigating ancient egypt and whatnot.
Tumblr media
Honestly this is just part of the outline. None of this is really amusing to me, just, if I ever tried to write it, a lot of work. Although, the fact that I can’t remember the blonde lady friend from the Mummy 2017 is kind of amusing and I literally call her ‘BLF’ throughout this entire outline. I think her name was Lisa. Or Sara.
i’ll google it.
Assassination Classroom - AC AU
At this point, I might as well tell you when it isn’t a bullet outline than saying when it is.
This was really just a Reaper/Koro-sensei raises Nagisa rather than his mom.
Tumblr media
People panicking around children is amusing to me. Again, long AU. And this was probably an excuse to write some baby assassin Nagisa and whatnot. Honestly whenever I read this I do remember more details on this, that I have never written down.
Murdered: Soul Suspect - Murdered: Soul Suspect
...
Okay I think this is just a repeat of the one I posted earlier???
Tumblr media
I- I don’t know what this was? Like this is newer than the other one?
?????
Uh, brain weirdness?
Let’s move on.
Trollhunters: Tales of Arcadia - TRollhunters
Ok! So this is the written out of the bullet point earlier. I did not write out much. But I’ll talk about it a bit more? So this AU is also a Bular survives and Jim finds him and helps AU.
Tumblr media
This is literally all I have written. So, right after this, Jim would find an injured Bular and helps him. There isn’t much to add, but I will add what I had written as Barbara’s reaction from the outline:
Tumblr media
Large AU, but it would be fun to write. I would most likely end up writing Claire’s journey of Trollhunting along with Jim’s adventures with Bular.
Red vs Blue - Meta, no, that wasn’t, he wasn’t
Okay, that’s not the full title but also the full title is literally the first sentence. Which is a long one so you get part of it. This is actually a written au, it’s about Agent Maine/ The Meta surviving and meeting up with Siris. This is just the first couple paragraphs:
Tumblr media
Nothing I read was particularly funny to me, so just the first two paragraphs. Essentially what would’ve happened is Siris would help Maine find Washington (on Chorus) go to Chorus. Find Felix and Locus. Drama Ensues.
I might actually write this. Maybe. There’s potential, if the drive hits me.
I havent watched RvB in a couple of years, but I did like the series. It was interesting.
Camp Camp- Camp Camp
Y’know since this is ‘misc’ I get just having fandom names. Lot easier to identifiy.
So, this file is currently loading still, but I remember this. It wasn’t that long ago. This wasn’t so much a fic as a comic I would of like to have done. I definitely would’ve needed to brush up on my art skills (I am mediocre at best) but it’s just a small little comic I would’ve done on Camp Camp.
Tumblr media
First little bit. I actually wrote out most of this rather than just bullet pointing it.
There is a little bit I’d have to polish up, but I could probably post this entire thing. But I kind of want to actually do the comic first. But boy that’s a lot of work.
I love how most of the reason I’m not writing these is that they’re a lot of work.
Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency (TV Show) - Project Cheron
This is an AU where Priest is one of the projects of Blackwing. Specifically Cheron and I think my reasoning is that he makes people go where they need to be. IDK. I actually wrote a couple of these. But this one is essentially Priest getting a bunch of projects together to help something. Idk.
This entire thing is weird and would probably be labelled crack if I ever finished it.
Tumblr media
Okay. This entire scene is funny to me. Just, this girl rushing out in front of the car waving happily with a decapitated head in her hand. I like it. So, Aine and Herodias are OCs. Both are projects Priest is collecting.
Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency (TV Show) - “Dirk
Another Priest is a Blackwing Project AU but that’s not really the focus of this story. This story is about a project (Project Carman- OC) who can trap people in their certain significant memories of her choosing. Carman gets annoyed at Bart, Dirk and the Rowdy 3 so she traps them in memories signifcant to their stay in Blackwing and Priest.
I’ve only written 2 of the six memories, so that’d be fun to complete. These are also just sad. They’re not happy memories. So, random moment that’s somewhat amusing:
Tumblr media
Also, title is the first sentence in the fic.
Devil May Cry - “Should I
I- why did I decide to do this from oldest to newest? Part of me is embarrassed, the other part is reminding me I have no reason to be? It’s a video game fic. But also this is a game of my childhood. It’s about Nero looking for his dad and finding Dante instead. Canonically Dante’s twin brother, Vergil, is Nero’s dad.
Tumblr media
Just a random moment because I didn’t write that much of it. Also I thought it was kind of cute. Patty shows up in the Devil May Cry anime. Which I watched before I played the games.
Aladdin (2019) - Aladdin AU
A mix of bullet outline and written. I don’t actually have much of this AU, but essentially before Aladdin wishes to become a prince, he notices some mercenaries kidnapping a little girl and decides to rescue her.
This girl is the princess of Shiroba, Aladdin takes her back to Shiroba. The Queen/ Sultana appreciates Aladdin going out of his way to help her so she invites him to stay in the palace.
Eventually word gets to Shiroba that Agrabah is planning to attack so Aladdin and the two twin princes of Shiroba (that I made up, OCs) make a plan to infiltrate and see what they’re planning. They’re not planing espionage, but as Shiroba is a peaceful nation, they want to see if they should start evacuating people and whatnot.
So you get the Prince Ali stuff with the Genie and yada yada.
I have none of that written. I just know that’s what I intended to do with it.
Tumblr media
So, first little bit. Long AU that would take a lot of work. Also, I know this isn’t super popular but I liked the 2019 version of Aladdin. I really like the changes they made.
Castlevania (TV Show) - Waking up in Jail wasn’t a new experience
Again, title is first sentence. Not writing that out. Anywho, this is a kind of complete canon AU to Castlevania. Essentially we haven’t reached Lisa getting burnt at the stake yet. So, loving Dracula fam. Trevor and Sypha meet earlier due to circumstance. Alucard gets attacked by something and gets rescued by Trevor and Sypha. They travel together for a while. And then Sypha and Trevor get to meet Alucard’s parents.
That’s where this AU will go if I ever write it. To be fair, last time I wrote in this file was March, so I guess that’s technically possible. Don’t hold out hope.
Tumblr media
First couple of paragraphs.
Also, that’s it! Misc WIP folder done!
Oh, if you’ve made it this far, a)thank you and b) if you want to continue/write any of these, go ahead, but tag me or send me a link. I will be very happy to see/read what you create if you like any of this in an inspo way.
Also. This is long, so, IDK if Imma go through the other folders rn. Maybe tomorrow.

Got tagged to do a thing by @sassysnowperson- thank you!
Author Name:
I’m ‘gemothy’ on AO3, which should give you a little hint at just how pun-centric my writing is.
Fandoms You Write For:
Discworld, mostly, with a bit of historical fiction thrown in. I’ve also written for a few other things in crossover snippets, particularly on here- usually Harry Potter, but on one occasion it was Monty Python’s Flying Circus. More on that later.
Where You Post:
AO3, generally, though fic meme prompts and such get posted on here. There’s also a few bits on kink memes here and there.
Most Popular One-Shot:
In terms of kudos, it’s A novel idea, a Vimes/Vetinari fic where they lie in bed and read shitty fanfic of themselves.
In terms of hits, it’s Country Matters, a Three Musketeers fic based on the recent-ish BBC series. It’s mostly about sex education from one idiot (Aramis) to another (d’Artagnan).
Most Popular Multi-Chapter Story:
I’ve only got one lmao
It’s What’s Past is Prologue, another Vetinari/Vimes one and the only thing I’ve written that has anything remotely resembling an actual plot. It’s still very silly though, don’t let the fact that it’s a bit longer than usual fool you.
Favorite Story You Wrote:
Everyone probably knows this already because it’s the one I always talk about, but: Ankh and Accountability. Vetinari is so much fun to write, especially if you take the opportunity to speculate about his rise to power.
This one is my favourite partly because Vetinari is my number one fave, and partly because I’ve always been really pleased with the way it turned out. I’m rarely as happy with the way fics turn out as I was when I finished this one, and I had a great time writing it too.
Story You Were Nervous to Post:
Flexible Working- it’s the only explicit fic I’ve posted on AO3 and I was really nervous about it. It’s only short, and not actually particularly explicit overall, but... well, I’m ace, and I don’t know what I’m talking about when it comes to this sort of thing. Except that maybe I do? Because it got a pretty good reception. Who knew, eh?
How Do You Pick Your Titles:
They’re all sitcom episode titles.
I’m joking, to some extent- they’re not literally sitcom episode titles recycled for fanfiction. But I do use the general principles of “is this funny” and “what would be a suitable pune (or play on words) to use here”
Things that tend to crop up regularly include: lines from Shakespeare, other literary references, and dreadful puns. Those aren’t deliberately recurring themes, they just happen. I have started to use a theme on purpose for vetvimes fics though, and it’s ‘corporate jargon that sounds like innuendo and/or feelings’.
Do You Outline:
....well. Technically yes, in that I’ll jot down the gist of an idea when I get it so I can actually write the thing later, and I did do it for What’s Past is Prologue, but uhhhhhhhhhhhh not for fic memes, generally, because those tend to be fairly short.
How Many of Your Stories are complete:
Everything on AO3 is complete, or at least every chapter that exists is self-contained. I have more WIPs than I care to admit to, though.
In-Progress:
Nothing published! But I’ve got a few bits and pieces in the works. There’s a thing about Vetinari going “oh right, that’s what sexual attraction is like” (as if I know lol), and an extremely silly Doctor Who/History Monks crossover. Those are the ones most likely to end up making an appearance.
Coming Soon:
The aforementioned “welcome to middle age, guess who’s demi now” fic, probably. I write non-fiction all day at work and work has been busy as fuck so it’s taking a while to do anything for fun at the moment, unfortunately, but I really do want to get this one done, and done well.
Do You Accept Prompts:
I do! I can never guarantee anything particularly long in response to prompts, but I do take them, especially if there’s an askbox meme going around.
If you want something, do feel free to ask, and I’ll see what I can do. You all know what sort of things I like, I’m sure I can have a go at something other than grumpy old city dads if you like ;)
Upcoming Story You’re the Most Excited For:
Bold of you to assume I can muster up that much enthusiasm when it takes me all my time to write anything in the first place. Ask me again at Christmas when work’s calmed down and I’ve got some time off for fiction, then I can give you a proper answer.
Tag Five Fanfic Authors to Answer These Questions:
aw shit uhhh loads of people I know write and now I can’t remember any of them, fuck
@bigdiscenergy @july-19th-club @treesinspace you all write, right? @patricianandclerk I know you do but I also know you’ve answered a lot of questions like these fairly recently so don’t feel obliged to do these as well

i wasn’t tagged by anyone but i wanted to do this anyway haha! currently feeling very inspired fanfic-wise so thought i’d capitalise on that
your name: adamwhatareyouevendoing on ao3 (i generally leave comments/kudos as skatingthinandice though)
fandoms you write for: oh goodness, loads. my bio on ao3 is literally “jack of all fandoms, master of none”. 18 different fandoms in total, but i’ve written most for victoria
where you post: i used to cross post to ff net but now solely ao3
most popular one-shot: most of my works are one-shots haha! in terms of hits it’s Be Here, With Me, my first Alfred/Drummond fic which i’m still so proud of
most popular multi-chapter story: wow oh wow it’s Backwards Looking Forwards. i’m honestly still so amazed and delighted that my Uhtred/Leofric stuff has done so well, particularly my leofric lives au
my favourite story i’ve written: i still feel such a rush of affection most of my recent work, but i’d have to say Dear Darling because even though it took me a year to write it, i knew i needed to give Michael and Thomas their happy ending, and i’m so glad i did. i also have to mention Provenance because i can’t wait to write more Aethelflaed/Aldhelm (bring on s4!)
how do you choose your titles? usually at the last minute and with major difficulty. more often than not they’re song lyrics from whatever music i listened to at the time of writing that really seemed to fit with the story
do you outline? very rarely, mostly because i write one-shots. if i do it’s normally because i’ve written some lines that i love too much so then i have to build a story around them... actually, come to think of it, this is how most of my stuff actually ends up written oops
how many of your stories are complete? i have 48 on my ao3 (some old old ones on ff net but i can’t remember how many). technically i meant to write a fourth chapter for one of my magelyn ones but i never did so hey i’m classing it as finished lol
how many of your stories are in progress? no posted ones currently in progress, and just one wip right now! that makes me sound far more organised than i actually am haha, i have many more ideas on the way
coming soon: definitely the marcheron collection because it’s been three years and i will not rest until i’ve got them out of my head. there should also be another two this year if i manage to finish watching the shows (lol) and then a further two when s4 of the last kingdom airs next year! and, can you believe, i actually have titles for 4 out of the 5 wow wow (are you proud of me @remembertheskittles?!)
if you see this and want to do it too, then consider yourself tagged!

Writing Process tag game
Tagged by @gothyringwald! Thank you ^_^
1. What are your favourite genres and/or styles to write in?
I recently discovered I actually LOVE magical realism. I really like world building like that. But most of all I like writing about people and relationships, so within that, anything really
2. What was the last writing project you finished and felt successful with?
I get a total buzz from finishing anything, often because I’m super excited about starting on the next thing! I think Wicked Boys, though - it’s just the first draft that’s finished, but I’m really pleased with how it turned out. The Forest Hotel, as well, I finished that quite a while ago but I still feel really positive about it, which is unheard of for me lol! My friend has finished the front cover art, so hopefully I’ll be able to publish it soon! But the most surprising success was Nature of Trust, because it’s STILL gathering hits and kudos like crazy, it didn’t slow down after I finished uploading, and I can’t even quite figure out why?! I feel like I hit on some magic formula there and I’m fascinated lol!
3. If you have a WiP how do you feel it’s going? What stage are you in?
Oh dear, hold on people. So I’ve got 2 original novels that are about 1/3 the way through. One of them I recently got enthusiastic about again, but I nearly cried when I re-read the first few chapters. They were shit. I’ve convinced myself to move past that - that’s a problem for second draft Lyndsay - and just write the damn thing.
I’ve got a couple of first drafts that need transcribing so I can upload them - Wicked Boys, which is my current baby, Golden Prince, and Living the Dream (shit, I need to be writing that like now, so I can upload tomorrow...)
I’ve got a Drarry novel which might ACTUALLY turn into an epic re-write of the entire HP series, oops. I’m only on book 1 as well, so... it’s getting there?
There’s a short story I promised my daughter, too, I should really prioritise that...
Oh, yeah, I forgot about Zero Degrees! I have a few extra chapters to add, and a bunch of edits, but I’m hoping to publish that next year
I have too many WIPs!
4. What are your favourite places to write?
I write my first drafts in notebooks (literally because I like buying pretty notebooks...) so I actually end up writing in some lovely places, like a hill where I walk my dog! My dedicated writing place is in a golf club cafe I go to after my karate lesson (random, know), they make the best BLT baguettes, and the old dudes there tease me and ask me when I’m going to write a book about them
5. Do you prefer to write with long hand or type? Or some other method?
If it’s something long I usually write in a notebook, because I kinda like having physical evidence of the VOLUME of shit I write! Also I really like pretty notebooks. Also also, it forces me to finish a first draft - I can’t edit as easily as I can on a laptop. And then when I type it up it forces me to second draft it, I spot things that don’t flow better than if I was just reading through
6. Do you remember your first character? If so can we meet them?
Yes! I used to write stories and pass them around my school, and the first one I wrote was about a girl who lived as a stowaway in a container ship like some pre-teen phantom of the opera on the fucking ocean! I actually don’t know if I ever finished the story, but she was trippy. First story I know for sure that I finished was about a bus crash where one girl nearly dies and her body is taken over by an angel so she can heal. It’s mostly from the POV of the boy who had a crush on her and who goes slightly crazy noticing the similarities and differences between this girl’s character before and after. I mean that was trippy AF too, I’m not even sure what was going on there... I was clearly a little edgelord already...
7. Where do you get your inspiration?
I really don’t know, half the time. Daydreaming. Something will set me off and I’ll take tangent after tangent until BAM, I’m re-writing the story of how my great-grandfather walked half way across Kenya with a donkey and a wooden leg, only now he’s gay and he and his Masai friend rescue a kid from an abusive household.
8. Do you outline a story before writing it, or does it all live in your head until the first draft gets put down?
So much outline. The reason being, I have so many random ideas that if I started all of them I’d go crazy. So instead I have a book full of tangled mind-maps (my header photo is an example), and once they’re outlined there, they can hibernate for years before I get started, but they don’t go away. If I just let them live in my head I’d lose them! I also have a book dedicated to doing character notes, like backstories and random bits of info that will probably never make it into the story but which give me a good idea of who the person is before I try to write them - otherwise they tend to be a bit two dimensional. @salamanderink gave me that idea by asking me loads of questions about some of my Zero Degrees characters!
9. Where do you go/ What do you do when you’re feeling stuck?
I just leave it alone, write something else or absolutely nothing. I don’t try to push it any more. I think I used to, because I was scared of losing momentum, but now I’ve got this backlog of ideas, I know that if I ever run out of inspiration at least I’ve got starting points for loads of new ones! I don’t know if that’ll change in the future, but it seems to be OK for right now. I sometimes change and do a bit of drawing for a while instead, that usually loosens me up
10. What got you started writing/doing Art? (Because I always love origin stories)
I’ve kept a diary since I was 6 or so, on and off, but consistently since I was 11. That just sort of turned into me writing stories, somehow. I remember writing in my diary ‘nothing interesting ever happens so I’m going to write down my daydreams until I get a boyfriend or something’. Then IDK, some of the kids a couple of years below me in high school found some of my stories, and asked if they could share them around, and I started sewing them up to hand out - I’ve still got all of them! Some of them were fucking dark...
We had a talk by an author one day, and he asked if anyone wanted to be a professional writer. I put my hand up (and got teased by the assholes in my class afterwards, because apparently the boys in my class were actual baby boomers and didn’t think writing was a real job - like mate, you’re 15, what do you care?!) but this dude looked at me with a super intense expression and said ‘never stop writing’. So I didn’t. And I self-pub my original stuff, and get my regular dose of validation on AO3, and writing is my most effective coping mechanism. Tadaa!
Tagging @slytherinvalues, @turned-her-brain, @salamanderink, @elizabethhollowswriting and @soz or whoever else wants to do this and needs to procrastinate as much as I do ;)
