I feel like aside from not white washing the clones the bad batch might be better if crosshair wasnt redeemed. Like he uses being a good soldier as am excuse for committing atrocities but he actually is just ok with it and he doesnt get a convenient out of it being a chip and he willingly works for the empire would imo work better
Sorry an pt2 to that ask but like I know timblr loves their redemption arcs and calling anyone who dislikes them cops or morally wrong. But I just feel like acting like anyone and everyone can be redeemed is also just a bad lesson to teach and that redemption has to start with the character realizing they're wrong and wanting to do better key word being wanting, and I dont see that in crosshair. He doesnt come off as someone who wants to be redeemed, he seems pretty into the warcrime and evil. I hope I'm making sense.
I also wonder what TBB would be like if they'd gone the much riskier but potentially more fulfilling route of not redeeming Crosshair. They could make him a tragic character at that point, but only if they simultaneously make all of the bad batch at complete moral odds with him, but also still have faith in him.
Crosshair as he stands now has two reasons for why he joined the empire: arrogance/superiority and because he wasn't opposed to the violence. his leaving only addresses the former, and barely. as in, he says he left because the empire wasn't loyal to him. But the violence he committed against innocents, and the violence the Empire committed against entire groups of people, don't mean anything to him. If they did, he would have mentioned them.
Sason 3's emotional arc for him focuses on all the wrong things as they try to force a redemption that, to me, doesn't feel earned. Does crosshair respect the regs? No. I don't see that, at least. He maybe, at the most, tolerates them. But the writers use saving Howzer's life as a stand in for Crosshair actually doing the work of owning up to getting a lot of Howzer's men hurt/killed. Crosshair should have had to own up to the fact that he likely traumatized Omega by a) trying to get her shot, b) trying to set her on fire basically, and c) knowing that the Empire foreced him to do (a) and (b) and still choosing them over her.
I also don't think omega should have been so gungho to forgive him.
If they keep Crosshair evil, this can give the Batch permanent emotional consequences and conflicts to deal with. Maybe they all think differently about how to address the Crosshair Question. Maybe they all beg and plead with him—really plead—to join them, and when he refuses, they leave. And then he hems and haws over maybe being good, but his fatal flaw is that he will always fight to be at the top of a pyramid that was designed to keep him at the bottom. Family be damned. He needs his superiority affirmed.
They also could still redeem him (blegh) but really show us that he respects the regs as much as he respects himself and his brothers. That he values their insights, thoughts, and opinions, and does want to see them saved from Tantiss. He doesn't do any of this, of course, and the writers make no effort to show that side of him. You'll get fans who maybe will say that he does respect regs. It'll be like struggling to plug in a lamp with a short cable into a wall and then insisting the light is on.
I saw someone else say that sometimes the conclusions drawn or themes understood in TBB are all things that could be plausible if you stretched. Like yeah, that's a conclusion you can reach, but the pieces aren't really there, you know?
Crosshair gets forgiveness for the wrong things and doesn't really work for them at any point, in my opinion. I said this on a podcast I guested on about a year ago, but saving someone's life doesn't always mean you actually, really respect them. Many people are simply not comfortable with having someone die in front of them. Crosshair, despite how severe he could be and how space-racist he could be, didn't seem the type (to me) to willingly leave anyone to die. he sucked but he wasn't evil like that, hence why I don't count him saving Mayday on that ice planet as a major leap in morals the way audiences are expected to view it.
because, again, when he says why he left the empire, does he say "Because they mistreated clones like mayday the same way they mistreated me, and i realized that the Empire was only ever going to hurt everyone regardless of how we value ourselves, which made me realize im not better than the regs and also that the Empire, which wiped out the jedi and killed civilians, is actually atrocious"? No. He puts himself first: loyalty, and loyalty to him. Yeah, he's learned to be loyal to his brothers, but their moral differences not playing a part at all in their emotional conflicts is making me believe that if TBB had all decided to join the Empire, Crosshair never would have left for any other reason. Again, the atrocities are a non-issue to him.
(Crosshair and hunter argue, but it's about HUnter's alleged guilt over not rescuing omega but Crosshair being the one to get him out. Not Crosshair's antics being part of the reason why Tech is dead. Not Crosshair repeatedly endangering the squad after his chip's out because he thinks they ow him loyalty before they're required to stick to their morals).
This post has gotten away from me, so I'm going to leave it here. I've been toying around with a rewrite of them for some time, and I might make Crosshair the epitome of lateral oppression and self-loathing in a marginalized person. He needs the oppressor's approval, the oppressor's power, even if it might cost him his life.

overall regarding my last batch of questions, i think on simpler terms, if not talking about the plot itself, ItK is a story about stories, and, just like with characters in-story, how they can fabricate and enthusiasm (or antipathy anyway) for violence and dubious situations lol.
i mean, on a textual literal manner, ichi and kakihara’s fight is just a typical murder scene with unfortunate(?) results. it can easily align on ‘villain so powerful they wish to be defeated’, ‘be careful with what you wish for’, ‘they had it coming’ things of that sort, people arent unreceptive to those stories, specially bc both the characters are horrible people. it’s satisfying to see people you hate die.
on a second level, it is a ‘romance’. yes it can sound redundant due to the oversexual nature of the story. so it’s not so much on the figures but on a practical level, as a tool. much like in hate and revenge, the weak beating the strong or a slighted person enacting justice, romance too requires empathy, if not stright sympathy, for either/or parts, and is no stranger to use hate (conflict) as its driving force. so, catharsis is not achieved, maybe, through conquest, but by the synthesis; the resolution of said conflict (otherwise it’s moreso tragic).
despite on numbers it’s more appropiate to say that ichi is less worse that kakihara (on an age=experience way) he is wimpy, volatile, undecisive and declares explicitly and loudly he wants to hurt ppl the audience is inclined to feel empathy towards (women bystanders, and not violent yakuza), so he’s underisable, maybe too close to someone you would meet irl. while kakihara hurts the weak, yeah, but it’s violent yakuza like him (and not like you), and instead of contempt he’s moreso *neutral about women, in contrast of ichi’s strong (specially influenced by the fact he’s atraccted specifically to them) opions on them. we spend most of  the time with him, and even by force of shared space and time, one logically understands what he wants.
so now both for the strength of hate (that you want them both to suffer) and for romance (that you want them both to meet, because one is compelled to the interaction of engaging characters), give way for the third layer of conflict: what’s the correct reaction when the story through legal means has lead you so that this fight happens (standard) but that by asosciation is also leading you to cheering on what’s subtextually, and in a way that’s coherent and directly resulting of the first two elements, an rape scene (or play or whatever). it doesnt negate the entertainment and satisfaction of violence and retribution nor that this is all but verbally what you’ve understood and rooted for kakihara to search and find. i don’t have an answer, to be exact, either.
**************************************************
the fact that jiji too acts like a puppeteer of his own crafted stories in-story, and we ourselves cannot trust what he says, reminds the reader of the presence of the author. the author has provided the story pure characters: ichi, while being close to beinng the character we know the most about his past of the main 3, has his and our understanding of it disturbed and unreliable in almost every way; we don’t really know why kakihara is so perverted nor why jiji has such a god complex. not like we’ve really needed to know, deliberately; they don’t exist (or at least feel divorced) as characters with a rich internal life beyond what’s necessary for the plot to advance in the limited space of this manipulation, violence and fetish galore story.
jiji, as an internal author avatar, too is the onwer and director of this story, more so than the protagonist (ichi) or the main character (kakihara); he creates the beats and makes the plots and charactes move forward. now where do i want to go with this section, flimsy as it may be. by making more evident the ways a creator will use narrative tools more to the likes of a herding staff, specially the kinds to create strong and divisive emotions i think it’s more convinient to, therefore, analyze this ‘rape’ scene in the practical and utilitarian way it was, just possibly, used for.
**********************************************
i’ve previously ‘joked’ on how authors will use a woman in a trio to make the two other male characters sublimate emotions (in the neutral way of the word, could mean like could mean murder intent) towards the other through, often hurting her or putting her aside in the process. obviously this is in great part bc of subconscious misogynistic tropes and the likes. nonetheless i will treat it as both subconsious (to some level) and a deliberate exemplification of how those female characters are used just as other intangible narrative tools are.
in that line, then, the internal position of women, real or fictitious, is to further and connect the male-male sociality. be it as validating factors in a competition, like with the twins; suzuki’s family to bribe him into paying for the murderer's fee; jiji using karen to cheer ichi into killing again, and in the process, through phonegirl, validating his outlook on women. this isn't necessarily true of all female characters in the manga, but the last one, on top of manipulating ichi to do his bidding again together with his killing instructions, it also establishes the method through which ichi and kakihara will complete their respective arcs and bring the audience satisfaction.
***********************************************
now, the problem is to disect whether the way female characters and kakihara (we’re still on the rape plotline for this case) are related is linear or retroactive. if linear, then the women are to be taken as stepping stones that set up the ‘mood’ with which kakihara's and ichi's arc climaxes are to be taken, like the paragraphs state above. if retroactive, then if the author is to assume its demographic, it would use a male character and his probably more closer approach so that their uncomfortablility is then passed more sympathetically to the rest of female characters.
the linear interpretation can look more objective re: the crafting of a narrative: jiji leads ichi to kakihara and the reverse through these series of events and interactions. jiji and the author channel ichi's growing, heterosexual, desire into drawing out kakihara's, through juxtaposition. however this interpretation has a weakness, since there's a gap between how the audience should feel about these women (since it's, for all the flaws of the work, portrayed that's bad they're abused), and how they should feel about kakihara's active desire for that hurt (the part that one is supposed to grow enthusiastic for). how are they supposed to set up the mood if they're so hard to reconcile? how's the audience to respond? or is it just A Fact to take on regardless of the audience reaction, for the sake of the story and story only? on the flipside, if that breach is intentional, is it then that it involves the audience as a Gotcha! in the you don’t want it bc you want it paradox, say, similar to ichi’s conflicted stance on his fetish, or in a sort of *sympathy for kakihara’s? so you wish this fight to happen, but do you endorse its unrelying dynamic too, hm? - prefacing the seoncd one saying i think it can be quite weak, and asume more about a vague reader than the text or its intent itself, since what i intuit this from also lacks enough emphasis it that were to be the case, but alas, moving on. if the interpretation is retroactive, now this is not only addressing the last fight but how kakihara interacts with men through the entire manga. for starters i don't think there's something inherently affeminizing about submission, structural, consensual or nonconsensual (abuse), nor do i think that's the way a good chunk of homosocial relationships of the manga are meant to be read as. but that kind of association is not lost to the manga either, I would argue intentionally, presumably aware of its genre demographic too (seinen, horror).
kakihara, while doing his fair share of torture as the victimaire, it’s understood this is often a reflection of something he wants done to him (others he’s just a bitch). done to people he lacks respect of (everyone), his underlings, adversaries, etc. his fixation with penile mutilation (of which it’s not like we skip a lot of precisely, for emphasis) is also self reflective. of course on a literal manner this is humilliating (and if taking into a account gendered dynamcis, emasculating). ***as crazy as this may sound, i feel that the violent scenes towards women are oddly, contained? (not like it feels better like that) looking back (and knowing how male authors can be) when they’re about sex, they’re sex; when they’re about violence nudity (or moreso the sexualized framing) is avoided, or at least enough it doesn’t distract from the barbarity. so strangely enough for a manga, this male-directed genital terrorizing (empasized by the shared male perpetrators), in concept, depiction or focus (even if it’s just piercings), appears maybe close in numbers to the previous. even if not so, overall there’s a looming threat of male-targeting violence than usual. so at the moment ichi cuts kakihara’s dick up (ei. it literally ignites his danger instincts, and symbolically castrates him) it materializes the female role of the performance of the victim. how does the presumed audience, the audience of a horror, react to this, closeups and all? weaker, similarly, stronger?
**this is barely revised lol i think towards the end i lost focus but whatever i hope you get what i mean. this is mostly rambles to overexplain lol.

wow sending an ask to myseld wow how crazy. do sam a.wesamdude
Tumblr media
wow such a lovely request me 💚 thank you I thought you would never ask
I got unnormal and Angry so under the cut it is
Tumblr media
theres literally not much I can say cause I should keep this on the dl but they dont know. they dont know they have no idea they dont know the things that I do. all I can say is I am possibly the third highest Sam understander in the world. including his actor himself.
the only issues he gets of mine are sadism (which he already has) and aromanticism (which I mean…. this guys got major of romantic issues I had to)
(this is where it starts to derail) Sams done horrible things and he self justifies and rationalizes so much and its so sexy but also look me in the fucking eyes. Dream is not fucking undeserving. canonically Sam didnt ever touch Dream in prison anyway, he just allowed torture to occur but he did NOT starve him and he did NOT personally beat him. if ur gonna claim that I need you to look me in the eyes and explain to me that you understand that Dream kidnapped, isolated, and abused a teenager and drove him nearly to the point of suicide. he is not some uwuw tortured sweet angel. I love Dreams character so much but not because hes so tortured baby. but because hes a twisted and sick and obsessed individual. hes an excellent villain and hes so good at manipulation that all these stupid fans have fallen for it too despite the fact that he CONTINUOUSLY reinforces the fact that his character is evil to the bone and did not change and ounce from his imprisonment and is still just as obsessed with the abuse of a teenager. I know Im taking this too seriously and Im a huge villain enjoyer and if people were enjoying him for that I would be fine with it but these people literally act like exile doesnt exist when its one of THE most important arcs of the whole series. it takes up a whole fucking season like what were u doing during s2
and the abuse of Tommy that is mirrored and reinforced in Sam when hes in prison like AUUGGHHGHHH. YOU GUYYYS ARE STUPID THESE ARE INTENTIONAL PARALLELS. but people dont like or havent fucking seen Sams imprisonment/exile….2! and it makes me so angry. girl it literally spells everything out for you and was done like old style lore quick succession day after day streams
anyway back to Sam. raging over. literally fucked up men of all time. man has trauma up to here and only understands violence and love through violence and will always fall back into his abusers traps. he can never escape Dream hes literally carved into his skin and soul
the way this fandom either completely demonizes Sam and hates him for shit he didnt even fucking do (at least get it right!!!! hes done plenty of fucked up shit canonically!) or treats him like a uwu dad and smooths out all his intricacies and issues… fuck oooff. like my guy doesnt even care abt Tommy anymore. that self recognition and love and attempts to save Tommy like nobody ever saved him are GONE. Dream beat it all fucking out of him. he doubts exile now too like GOOODDDD hes so fucked in the head and so abused 💚 loyal hound always running back to his masters side 💚 governed by a short leash and a spiked collar, can never get too much of his own power because the second he does its turned on him tenfold
his refusal to kill Dream but killing R,anboo almost without hesitation to try and draw Dream back to prison GETTTTS ME. he cant kill Dream. he will inflict unspeakable violence on others but he cant personally lay a hand on Dream. most of my fics involve him hurting Dream to try and get back at him and realizing hes just falling into exactly what Dream wants for him, but the flavor of being unable to lay a hand against him is SO yummy. he can watch, he can allow torture to take place, but he cant have that responsibility, that weight on his shoulders. a good dog cannot bite the hand that feeds.
his own first death is SO GOOD. dying at Dreams hand after beginning to trust and believe in Dream again, falling once more until the lull of love and believing his lies and manipulation and Dream literally slamming it back in his face again that he will always hurt Sam and he will never change
Sams absence is so important to me but Im so sad he didnt have an important role until s3. I need to watch more of his s2 stuff to get a better picture of what I can work with there.
GOOOOODD PEOPLE DONT KNOW ABT HIS ABSENCE. gutz from berk momence. the fact that I cant talk abt this kills me
he is my man of all time and my ch: loyal hound tag is Him. r: mark of the beast is him and Dream.
literally everything is better and makes more sense if you understand that Sam and Dream had a turned-toxic relationship before the story started/before Sams absence and Tommys joining
look at him :)

talk to me about what pers thinks about gunner or the effect gunner has on him
HII so sorry went chatterbox mode . uno momento
i think in the beginning pers was a leetol hostile towards gunner. out of apprehension and also not being able to comprehend why gunner would go out of his way to help a person like pers/having nothing to gain from it (i think abt rp ....). this, however, leads to him finally starting to see the good in people . 2 me < if not seeing goodness in himself, he sees it in others !! sees it in gunner seeking out help for him despite bleeding nd Maimed himself ! pers almost immediately grows fond of him after this revelation, coupled with the fact that despite seeing him in his most vulnerable moment gunner didnt actively try to hurt him (most he did was like, piss him off briefly) . in the future i think hed b practically Attached to gunner . out of love nd also not knowing what he is Without him. he also doesnt question things gunner asks him to do cos he trusts his judgement Immensely as a leader nd as a friend (gay pride flag). and also uhh . ex agent urge 2 follow orders nd what not. additionally i dont think he enjoys being open 2 gunner ill be real . views his experiences as deserved and fears if he speaks about them itll be confirmed < deathly afraid of gunner agreeing with him/saying he did in fact need to be tormented and was out of line for fighting back. i think hed only share tid bits of it w him tbh
HELP this man is so affected . i think he feels weak whenever hes around gunner, tbh . how despite going through the Horrors gunner still holds himself as a proud and accomplished person (in pers' eyes), whereas he gets nervous whenever he hears a door shut. i think hes most prone to act tough around gunner than anyone else in the gang- his attempts at trying to make up the fact that hes factually useless. hes eternally grateful that gunner feels safe being vulnerable around him < makes him feel that despite being weak theres at least One person that trusts him enough to do so . i think hed try to get better for gunner, not out of like . "oh i love you so much you inspire me to get well ^_^" but instead a "im going to try and be someone you deserve. im sorry im the one you love" type way
ALSOO extra thoguht so sorry but i remember you sending that 1 post thats compared them 2 hit song i bet on losing dogs by mitski and i become ILLLLLL OH MY WORDD . cos ok. theres two perspectives on it and the first one fits so well 4 pers nd his whole mindset
so the first interpretation of losing dogs is that its a toxic relationship in which the narrator knows is truly Over they still find themselves flocking back to it !! they know they cannot win/cant have a happy ending but still believe in their partner/the losing dog. which fits pers soooo much bc he views the gangs/gunners attempts at helping him (2 me i think theyd b understanding of how he has little capability of violence left within him < teef nd claws . which were key parts of his fighting as well as him being unable to hold a gun properly anymore, which in his mind renders him as a useless, worn down weapon in desperate need of termination) as them pouring time and valuable resources into a hopeless cause, aka HIM !!!
the second interpretation is that the dog, being a person you love deeply, is fighting a conflict (either a physical or mental one) that you see them succumbing to but cannot interfere with. and in spite of how dire it looks for them you cant help but long for them to and bet on them Winning. and when they (inevitably) lose, you lose along side them!! you process the same pain they do as well. nd when youre asked why you bet on them despite them constantly losing, you answer you bet on losing dogs because YOU need the things you give them. you need someone to look at you and give you unconditional love and benefit of the doubt. you need someone with unwavering and unshakable faith in you and your ability to succeed despite the fact you seemingly almost always lose. and when you DO fail, they wont abandon you, and will remain by your side as you writhe in pain even though youve caused them hardship. you bet on the losing dog because youre seeking a promise in it- the promise that theyll be by your side even when you fail in the same way. even when youre the losing dog . this is persgunner coded 2 me
also umm. sily doodle

thinking about galavant again. like madalena and gareth really should’ve realized that the feeling they were feeling was friendship in the end because i really don’t think either of them had had a friendship before let alone a m/f friendship
like madalena’s relationships are all about what she can get out of people. she hasn’t had anything given to her solely out of the kindness of friendship before. one of her early attempts at friendship lands with her being the butt of a joke so i doubt she approached anything honestly after that. and then her relationship with galavant is fueled mostly by lust so she doesn’t and wouldn’t interpret anything from him as being given out of kindness because that doesn’t fit with her worldview. so it’s understandable that she would mistake the feeling of friendship with the feeling of romantic love
i think her negative reaction to all of the stuff surrounding the wedding and then ultimately choosing power in the end highlights the fact that it isn’t romantic love for her. all of madalena’s choices are fueled by a want of power and status and hedonism. marrying gareth would’ve further secured her power with the throne and his loyalty to her which would’ve increased her power as well. it would’ve also made her status better as being a married queen. but she doesn’t chose that and she has to be convinced that it’s the thing to do. she likes gareth but in the end there is a big piece of the puzzle missing and its that she’s not attracted to him
now on gareth’s side of things, from a young age he’s put at a higher status above his peers by being assigned as richard’s bodyguard. this means that since he was ten to those outside the castle he’s richard’s enforcer. to any of his peers inside the castle he has a higher status than them, which given how young the social classes get enforced, means he’s going to be given some distance or mocked mercilessly behind his back. which would be stopped soon after it got back to gareth given gareth’s penchant for violence. so he only has richard for any sort of normal socialization. and even then that’s going to be all tied up in his duty and loyalty to richard. he doesn’t have any friendships that aren’t wrapped up in something else. he doesnt have any frame of reference so sid has to point out that they’re friends now and even then he doesn’t know how to act in a friendship despite being decades old
gareth lives his life by rules. he’s richard’s bodyguard so he’s loyal to him. he’s a man so he’s supposed to fuck women. he’s a fighter so he’s supposed to fight. his cut song manlyology highlights this by how aware of all the rules of masculinity gareth is. when gareth kills kingsley he has sid check the rules. gareth is king now. the king is supposed to married to the queen. so in his mind he should be married to madalena. gareth has been trained since he was ten (younger honestly since knight training is supposed to start at age 5) that he’s supposed to protect and be loyal to the throne, and more specifically richard. well richard’s not here, but his ex wife is. that’s the closest thing he’s got. so when he sees madalena hurt he does what he’d do for richard. he maims the people who hurt her and gives her their ears and earrings as a gift. this is gareth’s attempt at making things back to normal in his book. how things are supposed to go
i just think that everything on gareth’s end is him trying to make things make sense again after he had to go against everything he was taught and everything he stood for in the season one finale. and by projecting his loyalty for richard onto madalena he’s transferred some other feelings he has towards richard onto madalena. because gareth does love richard in some capacity. i would argue that it is romantic but even if you don’t feel that way you cannot deny that him choosing to save richard in the end was an act of love. also gareth’s whole “i like em really skinny. like unhealthy skinny” or liking women really really fat seems like either a fetish he’s talked himself into or something that gives him plausible deniability when it comes to why he didnt take home a woman who was into him. he can always say she’s not skinny enough or not fat enough. and let’s be real madalena did not lose or gain a lot of weight
tldr; all of madalena’s relationships are wrapped up in her lust or lust for power so she doesn’t recognize the feelings of friendship. she also doesn’t see gareth as an outlet for lust or a desirable opportunity of power. gareth hasn’t had a friendship that isn’t warped by his loyalty to richard including what is between him and madalena and he projects his feelings of care and loyalty towards richard onto her. sid had to point out that they were friends. madalena doesn’t fit gareth’s description of an attractive woman. so both parties mistook friendship for love

In that 2016 interview, Isayama spoke of Eren and Mikasa's eventual separation being ideological: 'If I were to draw the separation of Eren and Mikasa... Mikasa would have to endure the strain of being stuck between Eren and Armin. Even though she can sympathise with Armin, who considers things from a "globalism" perspective, it's possible that she can't just let the more self-focused Eren go'. This ideological separation begins the moment Eren defects from the SC. It's from this point onwards that EMA's paths truly begin to diverge, and Mikasa in particular is presented with a choice that she's never had to face before.
The choice she makes will most likely conclude Mikasa's character arc once and for all, and it's a choice that's been building since before the time-skip, represented by her interactions with two characters in particular:
1. Mikasa and Floch
At the award ceremony in Chapter 90, Floch points out something interesting about Mikasa in what is otherwise an easily overlooked moment in the manga. Although multiple people were present on the rooftop during Serumbowl, he is the only one to explicitly draw attention to the fact that Mikasa let go. She resigned herself to losing Armin because Hanji convinced her that Erwin was more important to humanity and Mikasa's grief at losing him was something that would pass.Floch sees this as maturity, but the realisation that she was willing to let Armin go for the sake of humanity is something that Mikasa is shocked by. It makes her falter, and let go of Eren.
Tumblr media
Mikasa has always defined herself as Armin and Eren's protector; she's presented in the story as such, and she styles herself as such. She's the one who keeps Eren and Armin safe. But Floch's words make her realise that, on the rooftop, she was able to step away from that role - because her world has expanded beyond Armin and Eren. It has expanded to include Hanji and Levi and the other Scouts - and humanity.
Mikasa is capable of making choices that hurt her deeply for the sake of a greater cause.
2. Louise and Mikasa
Louise meets Mikasa on three occasions. The first time, Louise tells Mikasa she likes her because Mikasa saved her, and gave her something to strive for: 'You can't save anyone without power. It's okay for us to fight against unjust violence. That's what I learned' (109). In the same way Eren 'gave' Mikasa a motto to live by, Mikasa gave one to Louise.
The second time, Louise tells Mikasa that she's happy to be by her side again, fighting for the same goal. Mikasa is ambivalent towards her. And she leaves her scarf behind, choosing to go and fight the titans without it.
In between the second and third meetings, Mikasa talks to Armin. When Mikasa asks what should be done about Eren, Armin replies (due to bottling up stress and frustration) that there's nothing to be done and he doesnt know. After Armin leaves, Mikasa notices that the scarf is missing, and goes to retrieve it.
The third and last time they meet, Louise is dying. She tells Mikasa that Eren wanted her to throw the scarf away, but she thought that she could take it to be close to Mikasa. Though she appears to sympathise with Louise's plight, Mikasa demands the scarf back from her. She walks away from Louise even as Louise tells her that she had no regrets, because she chased after Mikasa, devoting her heart.
Each meeting between Louise and Mikasa mirrors, in an abbreviated way, the different stages Eren and Mikasa's relationship has gone through. 1: Louise's initial love and gratitude, and her taking Mikasa as an inspiration; 2: their fighting side by side as equals; and, finally, 3: their literal separation as Mikasa chooses to walk away.
Mikasa never seeks to stop Louise from talking about her feelings; instead, she listens. She might not reciprocate, but she does understand. She walks away, but she takes the scarf with her. Despite what Armin said, and what Louise told her about Eren and the scarf, Mikasa chooses to keep a hold of it in the way she keeps a hold of the hope that Eren can still be brought back.
Mikasa is capable of holding on to the person she loves even when he's gone too far.
Mikasa Chooses... Mikasa
Despite the apparently binary choice, Mikasa doesn't have to choose to side with Eren (allow the Rumbling to go ahead) or with the opt: kill Eren to stop him. She said it herself: there's a third option. Her way. Eren's wandered so far down his path that he's lost sight of Mikasa and of Armin; of what connects him to the world. Mikasa chooses, not to support him or to believe that he's a lost cause, but to remind him that walking away from his humanity doesn't mean that he can't turn around and walk back.
Kruger said 'Anyone can become a god or a devil. All it takes is for someone to claim it for it to be true' (88). But if there's someone to challenge that belief, then the possibility remains of breaking the facade and setting the story straight - thereby freeing that person from the role they've either taken on out of necessity, or been assigned. It's something we've already seen happen. All it takes is for one person to question it, and the goddess falls apart to reveal an empty, unloved young girl, or the devil's mask cracks open to show the boy still grieving for the world he's lost.
Tumblr media
Ymir knows that Historia's faking it; Mikasa knows that Eren is kind. Each of them challenges the story that their loved one is telling in order to keep going: Historia to survive, Eren to achieve his dream.
It took Mikasa years to truly overcome the cruelty she had seen as a child. Despite everything, she did, in the end, go back to being that 'ordinary girl'. She came to acknowledge that cruelty exists, as does death - but life must nevertheless be lived, people loved, experiences had, and faith kept. Seeing the beauty in a world that is inherently cruel is, and always has been, Mikasa's greatest strength. It's something she is capable of offering Eren, who no longer seems to believe in that duality, or in his own humanity. She can show him what he showed her; that the world isn't black or white, cruel or beautiful, dark or light. It's both. And it's possible to live with that.
Conclusion
Mikasa is fighting to prevent a massacre and stop eren. She's the person best suited to do that not only because she's his family, but because Eren's despair and anger at the world is what she might have ended up with herself. If any character could have become as bitter about the world as him, it was Mikasa. But he stopped that from happening because his kindness showed her that the world, as bad as it was, had good in it.
Little by little, Eren's abandoned that view of the world himself. He no longer sees both its beauty and its cruelty, but has confined himself to seeing - and acting on - only one. When they fought Annie in Stohess, Mikasa had to remind Eren that the world was cruel, because Eren had lost sight of that truth. Now, Eren's lost sight of another, equally valid truth; that the world, as cruel as it is, is also beautiful. That he, as inhuman as he thinks he is, is also kind.
If Mikasa manages to 'bring Eren back', she'll have come full circle. She started off as a little girl who was seeking something, anything, to hold on to. She needed a saviour, and she got one in the form of Eren. In this scenario, she'll end as a saviour herself, someone who is now able to pass on the light that she once received. Her fear of the world and of losing her loved ones subsided; she managed to find the warmth she needed to carry on.

Reasons why i hate mikaela hyakuya
@gurensangel @chaoticgaymess sorry i know you wanted me to repost your post but its easier just starting my own and making my own hashtag so incase anyone else asks me about this i can just look for the hashtag and send them this
Mikaela is honestly one of those characters i desperately and i mean desperatly tried to love i mean his kid self was so so easy to love and want to protect and hell i cried a shit ton for him and his past his problems everything but the reality is mikaela is a toxic person and here im going to be explaining everything as clearly as i can though im sure that everyone has heard most of these arguments i also have some most people wouldnt even consider
Why is mikaela toxic? Well simply said when you have one person and only one then its obviously going to be an underlying mental health issue now you could say other characters are similar to mikaela within that regard like every other vampire but heres the thing we dont get to see much of the other vampires so im more or less apathetic to those vampires and their actions however in accordance to mikaela we have watched his actions since day one and his chemistry with the rest of the cast of owari no seraph what grinds my gears isnt the fact that mikaela acts with violence and distrust towards everyone but the actions that the rest of the cast have taken towards mikaela and his inability to react differently towards those same exact characters aka shinoa squad
Shinoa squad has never once treated mikaela with prejiduce with agendas or anything of ill will since day one the fact that shinoa basically is the cause of death of many of her comrads during the nagoya arc where mikaela attacks the jida troop (and yes it is a troop considering that after reading pannel after pannel theres upwards to 20 soldiers who the majority of which are equiped with standard blades unlike the protagonists you know basically cannon fodder) but my problem is the fact that in that chapter shinoa instigated their betrayal to save mikaela from the rest of the troops shinoa's life was threatned straight after acknowledging that this could be the last she ever layed eyes on yuichiro by letting mikaela escape with him first threatened by a random soldier and then right after rika inoue and by her superior narumi makoto and shinoa the fucking chad she is just took all the punishment because she knows damn well that it is her fault her comrads died because of her distraction to allow mikaela to escape eating away the precious time guren baught his soldiers to run away and escape and how does mikaela respond? He tells yuu to abandon them it doesnt take a genius to say that betrayal especially to the hiragi family is met with death even if mikaela doesnt understand the rules and regulations of human law i doubt vampire law is much different meaning he knows damn well shinoa could lose her life for betraying the army for his sake and not just shinoa but her entire squad
I already know what youll say "but but mikas a vampire he has no emotions" bullshit absolute pure fucking bullshit of an argument considering the fact yoichis mention of the word family/freinds was cause for pause for mikaela and not just mikaela look at ferid look at crowley theyre all so vibrant and brimming with personality and emotion and i am damn well sure no one disagrees this could just be kagami's writing and forgetting about this plotpoint
The fact that despite this mikaela is a manipulative fucker we all know yuu is a dumbass no one can deny this the fact that mikaela is willing to point his sword towards yuichiro and threaten him his so called beloved speaks volumes about mikaelas ego his straight up ego thinking that he's the only one that could be right after all mikaelas the wisest of the bunch right i mean after all everyone of his other decisions was followed through with outstanding results anyone? Anyone? Thats right not once has the squad or especially yuichiro listend to mikaela and do to that fact everyone is alive and kicking examples? (This is also an example of manipulative mika) Mika: Yuu abandon shinoa because if she's as great as you say us sticking around will only cause her trouble you cannot tell me that isnt mikaela trying to twist yuu's feelings for his family to abandon them because had they listened to mikaela shinoa would have been impaled by the chains kureto produced to awaken the seraph of the end
And almost right after that same situation upon mahiru injuring yuu awakening abadon mikaela high tails and runs away carrying yuu and we actually see a pannel of shinoa squad scrambling for saftey straight up abandoning them again and going so far as to yell that he is yuu's only family despite all the other shit
Alright so lets play into the whole mika doesnt have feelings dont you think that having no feelings would make your sense of judgement all the better? And if so with all the evidence and actions of shinoa squad why in Gods blue earth would he basically act like an actual dick towards shinoa who saved his life risked her life for him as if shinoa is the sole reason yuu is in the prediciment of being possessed by yuu?? Isnt that the least bit infuriating??
On next of we shouldnt listen to mikaela in the same arc again mikaela suggests lets leave shinoa squad to face off against crowley AND FERID with this bullshit of "theyre after us theyll just ignore them" i mean are you kidding me? Ferid the man youve been with for 5 years is going to not have the time of his life killing a bunch of teenagers for the simple fact that if yuu is running away and leaving them.they must not be important to him therefore easy pickings for him
Lets not trust guren after all he's just using you he doesnt care the man loves that boy like as if he was his son and you can argue against me with this some time later but alright lets give mika the benifit of the doubt so obviously in mikas infinit wisdom his set course of action is killing him infront of yuichiro??? Really??? In front of him?? Killing his father infront of yuu man that just speaks volumes about how mikaeala only cares about the feeling he gets with yuu rather than carring about yuu as a person
Imo mika cares about how yuu makes him feel rather than who yuichiro is what do i mean by this? Its simple mika doesnt give a damn what makes yuu happy hell mika would cage yuu up if it ment keeping him safe and alive but is that really living? Its cruelty if i adopt a dog feed it and give it water but never play with it and isolate it thats basically animal cruelty
Anyway back to mika trying to kill guren just right there yuu begs mika to stop and grabs his arm pulling him back and what does mika do? What does he do? He lops off yuu's arm the one that was holding mikaela back from attacking what makes this scene even worse is i had so much hope for mikaeala because the last battle they won mikaela said the thoight of losing his.comrads made him dizzy what happened to him not having feelings? I lived loved loved that statement i imagined uncle mika to yuus kids being the best man to yuus wedding begging to be the one to make the wedding cake so so so so so many au's based off those little words and right after removing yuu's limb from him kimizuki and yoichi step up for guren weapons drawn and mikaela threatens them?!?!?! I mean honestly how fucking hypocritical can you be how big is his fucking ego???
Ill end it with this point because i have work in the morning i Still have another 20 bullet points i want to add but im starting to think i have artheritistis in my hand because my fingers hurt so much but anyway my point being mikaelas character contradicts yui's in an unhealthy way while yuu's character trait is to run towards danger to be a hero mikas is to run from danger its basically a tug of war and the thing is the story so far has actually turned out well for the cast running into danger for yuu made the 6th angels trumpet to grow silent destroying all of the four horsemen monsters and letting humanity take a huge step towards rebuilding but had it been mika's way theyd have run right out of that building never to see it again my point is if someone pulls and runs towards something and another character ties a rope to them and runs the other direction that tension will cause nothing but problems instead of running forward with the protagonist in order to keep them safe and actually contribute into the success of the mission
Also like the hashtags say this is only part 1 because as i said i have to sleep and my hand is killing me i should have done this earlier when i had more energy in order to bring along all the sources like the chapter and page where you can find these exact moments along with photos of said arguments/bullet points

thoughts on nie mingjue
Warning: LONG POST AHEAD, i’ll put it under a read more
Every time I think about how the MDZS fandom is dead-set in their portrayal of Nie Mingjue solely as a bad-tempered, violent man whose sole motive was to hurt the oh-so-victimised JGY, I get so sad... So I’m gonna go on a quick rant and address some of these misportrayals:
TLDR: Nie Mingjue = victim, Jin Guangyao = villain, just because the MDZS fandom seems to have gotten them mixed up
1) The thing that bothers me the most: This portrayal of NMJ as some “Wen-dog” hating, hot-headed monster who would hate every single Wen person and hate them for no reason...
Nie Mingjue was a good (remember this!!) man who was brave and righteous and was, like the other characters, thrust into war at a young age. He didn’t start the Sunshot Campaign just because he just hated the Wen Sect so much for no good reason. For some reason when it comes to NMJ everyone forgets that the Wen people were the ANTAGONISTS of the Sunshot campaign?? His father was murdered by WRH, other Sects had been absorbed or destroyed. He hated the Wen Sect (in terms of WRH and those loyal to him) because he (and those he cared about) had been victimised by them.
FURTHERMORE, NMJ was the only Sect Leader in the Sunshot Campaign that was canonically shown to care about what was happening to the civilians. Did you all forget empathy? Yes he made a lot of kills in the Sunshot Campaign but did he ever want to hurt civilians just for the heck of it? Just because he just loved violence that much?? No!! Read MDZS again and tell me where that happened.
2) Nie Mingjue had close relationships with people (NHS, LXC)
During his empathy scene, WWX said that he was having such lively conversation with 3zun that he even wanted to join in!! Just because he canonically had a bad temper doesn’t mean he was some terrifying abusive monster that everyone barely tolerated out of fear?? He was a likeable person who had friendships and was loved.
Even with JGY, when he still saw him as a good person with similar ideals to him (which BTW is the basis of EVERY REASONABLE FRIENDSHIP and Not an extremely high standard only held by NMJ like the fandom pretends), he protected him from gossip and mentored him and took care of him. He believed in and was protective of JGY basically up until he saw him killing that Jin sect captain, at which point it was perfectly reasonable to no longer trust him!!
And, even then, even after the shit with JGY killing all the Nie cultivators (which to me didn’t seem necessary but you all can interpret it however), whether it was due to LXC’s coaxing or because he still held out some hope for JGY, he still swore brotherhood with him to continue to guide him. IDK about you all but that to me doesn’t seem like someone who hated JGY with a passion. It seems like someone who was to some extent still hoping for JGY to turn things around. He could’ve just given up on him!! But he didn’t, not after all JGY had already done, and not even during the Xue Yang shitfest... It was really only during the worst moments of his qi deviation (which was very much JGY’s fault!!!) that he physically hurt JGY at all instead of just openly distrusting him.
3) ...and wasn’t just a rage monster that they tiptoed around!!
Which brings me to the fact that despite NMJ always having had a bad temper as the book implies, it wasn’t until his qi deviation that he began to get truly bad. Him destroying NHS’s things, and being aggressive and angry, and even the supposedly worst thing, kicking JGY down the stairs and calling him the “son of a wh*re” all happened after JGY had started poisoning him. This is fact, people!! Nie Mingjue was not an abuser, he was a righteous and good man whose mind and life were poisoned by someone he should’ve been able to trust!! This should not be a constant portrayal of him – he is NOT the monster that JGY tried to make of him. Even at the end, in his very last moments, he still saw his brother clearly. THAT’S who he was, someone who cared deeply about the people he loved (yes, even JGY to some extent even after he stopped deserving it).
4) ALSO on the subject of NMJ being tooooooo black and white in his thinking, and being toooo righteous (is that a thing?) and having tooo high standards for Jin Guangyao
First of all, when fandom touts that NMJ’s standards for JGY were too high, were they really so high? All he asked for was a good soldier and friend who WOULDN’T JUST STAB AND KILL their own captains in the middle of a war... and wouldn’t remorselessly murder cultivators to keep their own cover... and then wouldn’t protect someone who murdered an ENTIRE SECT from receiving due justice...
Yes, Jin Guangyao did have reasons for what he did. Were they JUSTIFIABLE? To me, it’s a matter of what you prize. Jin Guangyao is a painfully selfish character – even before he started actively joining Jin Guangshan in being evil, he was already selfish!
Yes he needed to keep his cover in front of Wen Ruohan, but why did he have to murder those Nie cultivators to do that? And then still never even ONCE show remorse over it, even right after the fact?? He just constantly complains that “I only killed a few cultivators out of desperation and you keep on bringing it up” (italics mine)... The way he talks about cheapens the sanctity of those lives taken, and turns it into a minor mistake, which is the same way the fandom speaks of it as well. Whether they actually believe it or they just wanna make JGY look better, I’m not sure.
And yes, his position in Jin Sect was precarious and his father disdained him. Did that justify protecting Xue Yang after he masscred an entire clan? No! And even if it did justify protecting Xue Yang somehow, even if his reasons justified ANY wrong that he did, it still doesn’t mean he was in the right!! He was doing acts of self-preservation, even if it’s not unjustifiable, it still caused harm and he prized himself above all that. And Nie Mingjue, even if he was clueless about JGY’s struggles, even if he was speaking from a place of privilege or just too stupid to see nuances in life, was still right! He shouldn’t have killed the captain or murdered the Nie cultivators or protected Xue Yang.
IN CONCLUSION
What I’m TRYING to say is this: Nie Mingjue’s portrayal by the fandom (in fanfics and discussions and even in youtube comments...) as the AGGRESSOR of the 3zun dynamic is due to the unbelievably large amount of sympathy there is in the fandom for Jin Guangyao that causes them to heed his words more even when they’re clearly meant to arouse sympathy and sway the listener. Nie Mingjue, who is definitely the victim of the Venerated Triad (literally don’t see how he’s anything but that) does not get that same sympathy, whether it’s due to a smaller time in the spotlight or maybe he doesnt have a sad backstory (he does its so sad) or whatever other reason. Either way, this has caused a overwhelming amount of portrayals of Nie Mingjue as the aggressor in the trio... No. He was the victim. If you don’t believe me, go ask the dismembered HEAD that was lying in JGY’s STUDY FOR YEARS!!
When the fandom pushes this belief that Nie Mingjue is a brainless, emotionless (except for anger) aggressive monster whose only purpose in life was to bully the helpless Jin Guangyao, it strangely makes me realise that even the readers who are exposed fully to the depravities of JGY’s character have still fallen for Jin Guangyao’s lies. It makes me so sad that NMJ’s life and character is defined by his worst enemy who hurt him (and those around him, yes including LXC) the most.
(If you’ve read until this point for some reason PLEASE hit me up to discuss this more, I’d be happy to talk more about NMJ or MDZS in general... If you’re gonna argue just be polite!!)

Kankri is not a good person, nor is he a bad person. In my view, he is a wildly misunderstood character--both by the people who love him and the people who hate him. Both sides like to take only parts of his character and ignore the others that don't align with their perception of him. There is no harm in that, per say, but it does an incredible disservice to him as a character.
The Alpha trolls are, generally speaking, two-dimensional. They are caricatures of certain online groups meant to satirize those aforementioned groups. In Kankri's case, it's the SJWs of tumblr. At the time of Kankri's conception, social justice on tumblr was notorious for being outrageously PC and, hypocritically, malicious. People were threatened and "cancelled" over the stupidest of things. Naturally, this trend still exists and has spread from tumblr; however, it is not to the degree that it once was as those SJWs have now matured and created a healthier space (for the most part).
Kankri is a representation of the worst parts of those people--he is overly concerned with saying the "right" thing at all times, ignoring that words don't matter if your actions don't reflect them. Quite literally, Kankri is all talk. He lectures anyone he can about their "triggering" behavior while turning around and engaging in that same behavior when it suits him.
Therein lies the Mituna problem. Kankri is overly considerate of Latula's lack of sense of smell, Cronus's humankin, Horuss's belief he is two-spirit, etc. even when those (such as the case with Latula) don't actually care all that much. He does this because it's what he cares about and that's all that matters to him. But he doesn't care about Mituna. My interpretation is because he is jealous of him. Kankri is flushed for Latula, who is Mituna's matesprite, but Kankri doesn't think Mituna deserves to be in a relationship with Latula likely due to his cerebral trauma. A trauma he acquired after destroying himself in an ultimately futile attempt to save his friends, which is another reason Kankri is jealous of him. Much like Karkat, Kankri served as the leader of the group. Despite this, he was unable to rally the troops together due to his more passive approach in juxtaposition to Karkat's abrasive leadership style and general nature. Seeing Mituna act so boldly, doing something Kankri was unable to, was a hit to his ego. Already people don't like him and here Mituna was, making him look like even more of a useless asshole.
So, Kankri resents him. He doesn't want to care about Mituna, so he doesn't. Anger, bitterness, jealousy, whatever the case may be, he does not respect Mituna. Regardless, Kankri is Kankri. The way he speaks to him, insulting him and his entire existence, is phrased in such a manner that pins Mituna's disability as a flaw that he needs to work on. So much so, Mituna is obligated to apologize. Now, Mituna is not an innocent infantile thing that does nothing wrong and isn't a jackass himself because all trolls are jackasses. He is crude and can be inconsiderate of others. Regardless, Kankri does not approach the matter in a constructive way, seemingly almost glossing over those fair criticisms in favor of low blows.
This is something that is fundamental to Kankri's character. There are plenty of things he is right about, however he handles it in such a way that it only comes across as pretentious swill that no one wants to listen to. Alternatively, he overlooks those valid points to unjustly attack another's character. But, that doesn't mean he is always wrong.
Kankri, at his core, cares deeply and passionately. Whether or not you agree with what he concerns himself with doesn't matter because he will continue to feel the way he does with everything he has. His passion is palpable. The most notorious of which is the Beforian hemospectrum.
Under pre-scratch Feferi, culling doesn't mean killing. Rather, lowbloods are seen as incapable of taking care of themselves, so highbloods are responsible for them. Kind of like a pet. While not being killed is nice, being treated as a second--maybe even third-class citizen is still oppression. Kankri sees this and resents how their society functions. He doesn't want to be coddled and treated like he is inept because he isn't. Subscribing to how society wants him to behave would be a fate worse than death. If he cannot be independent and think for himself, doing what he thinks is best without the concern of others looming over him at every step he takes, he would rather die. These are the beliefs he held even as the Signless, although with different context. Thus, his motivation for his personal boundaries. When Porrim tells him he has grubsauce on his face and tries to clean it himself, he flips out. Porrim is high enough on the spectrum to be considered able to take care of him, and Kankri does not want any part of it. The mere thought is mortifying to him. Being touched is something that is (actually) triggering to him. He doesn't want pity, he wants respect. Even if his friends hate him and think he's annoying, at least he's being himself.
When Porrim wishes to discuss issues regarding women, Kankri doesnt want to hear it. Here is where many call him misogynistic, but I implore you to consider not applying human society onto the trolls because it doesn't make sense. Trolls are a matriarchal society, what with the empress being in total control. And, so far as we know, it has always been an empress. We don't know just how much gender affects things considering the hemospectrum plays such a large role in how everyone falls in society. My interpretation is that gender is nowhere near as big of a deal as it is with humans. Even if it were, between fusciabloods being primarily female and rulers, and jadebloods also primarily female and nurturing the Mothergrub (aka how all trolls are born), I don't feel it's too far a stretch to say that the women of trollian society are not oppressed. I don't believe the men are oppressed either because I feel that gender isn't much of a consideration for trolls, but that is just my interpretation.
That being said, Porrim expresses her concern that their matriarchal society was a false one operating under Lord English, ergo making it patriarchal in nature. Kankri does not share that view, feeling that it's a non-starter. In his view, Lord English's actions truly had no effect in that regard. Why would a time traveling demon set on destroying everything worry about frivolous details such as ensuring women are beaten down? In Kankri's eyes, it's stupid to assume he would even bother.
Regarding Kankri's celibacy, it's another example of Kankri merely trying to keep his chin high in the air and feel as if he is better than everyone else. His intellect is too high to concern himself with the oppressive nature the quadrants come with. It seems too much like another means to be controlled. However, his commitment to it is...questionable. Porrim and him are essentially moirails in everything but the name due to Kankri's pride. Not to mention, his flushcrush on Latula. If he were truly committed to his Vow, he would not pursue this crush as much as he does. All Latula has to do is say the word and Kankri would drop his celibacy like a hot potato. Again, another example of how he is willing to say the "right" things, but his actions do not reflect that. This hypocrisy is one of Kankri's defining traits. He simply cannot put his money where his mouth is despite the mountain of effort he puts into convincing everyone how serious he is.
As someone who admires social justice, he doesn't care for the Signless. His official reasoning is in regards to a difference in approach. While the Signless's rebellion reflects the violent society of Alternia, Kankri expresses how he feels a more peaceful method would have been better, a reflection of the peaceful society he was raised in. He feels that words hold more power than violence, something those baser than him resort to.
Perhaps this is due to the tenderness I hold for him, but I think the reasoning runs deeper than that. All of his friends liked hearing about the Signless, Aranea in particular. So much so that she wears his symbol around her neck. This is something that clearly bothers Kankri, but is it really just over a difference in opinions? At the end of the day, the Signless is Kankri. My theory is because everyone likes his post-scratch self better than they like him. The people who he considers his friends, who he trusts to return when they leave mid-sermon, who he tried to lead and protect can't stand him, referring to him as the Insufferable. Wouldn't that hurt you, too? He knows he's long-winded, he knows he preachy, he knows people find him irritating, he knows. Naturally, Kankri doesn't let it show, but he wants his friends to like him. The only person who (kind of) listens to him and actually treats him with respect is the crowned worst character of homestuck, Cronus. It affects him to hear how much others admire the deeds of someone who is him when, in truth, he is not really that person.
Many of the core traits in Karkat exist in Kankri. They are both drawn to leadership, drawn to helping their friends, short-tempered, and emotional. Kankri says a multitude of harsh things, things that are much crueler than the what Karkat says, and it's important to acknowledge Kankri's cruelty. That doesn't detract from the fact that Kankri does care for others, even if his feelings towards them are less than pleasant, because that's who the Vantases are. They are deeply flawed and oftentimes foul-mouthed people, and yet, at the end of the day, they still care fiercely. Kankri is not some disinterested, detached critic. He is just as much a part of the group as the others and he wants what is best for them. If he didn't care, he wouldn't bother lecturing. No matter how annoying and egocentric you are, no one likes to waste their time.
At the end of the day, Kankri is not a perfect person. Far from it. But he's endearing and he's relatable and he's flawed. None of the trolls are good people. They are all assholes who say fucked up things. They use the r-slur, they make fun of Tavros for his wheelchair, Meenah is elated that her post-scratch self commits genocide on the regular, Vriska. Just Vriska. A lot of the hate I see regarding Kankri reduces him to a soulless monster who's only goal is to insult and talk down to everyone in his way. A lot of the admiration I see boils him down to an uwu sweet innocent blushy baby when that is the furthest thing from the truth. He's a snarky bastard who gives a fuck about his friends, even if they spit in his face because he spits right back. Please respect his depth, even if you interpret things differently from how I did. He is not as flat as many make him out to be. No one in homestuck is.

Masterlist  II  AO3
Bakugou x Vigilante!OC
Warnings: angst, explicit language, violence
Word count:   2080
Genre: enemies to lovers ; angst ; romance, slow burn
When a new student makes an entrance, Bakugou has a real bad feeling. There is something about this girl that just doesnt feel right. From the flaming hair to the calculating glint in her green eyes, everything about her just pisses him off.
Little does he know that his fate is intertwined with the person he despises so much, defining his future path in a way he would have never expected
Tumblr media
When Aizawa opened the infirmary door, the scent of nitroglycerin hit him like a wall. Taking in the room before him, he noticed two things. Firstly, Artemis was sitting hunched over on the bed, holding her red face in her hands and shaking. Secondly, Bakugou was standing in the corner of the room furthest away from her, stubbornly facing the wall. The overpowering scent of the explosive compound was proof that the young man was sweating buckets.
That was suspicious. Aizawa was used to seeing the two at one another’s throats, but finding them in this state made him suspect that they didn’t hate each other as much as they led on. At least, not anymore.
Teenagers…
“Oh, dear, you don't look so good.” Recovery Girl's voice cut through the room as she rushed towards the shaking Artemis and pressed a small hand to her forehead. “Hm… It doesn’t seem to be a fever, but your heart rate is elevated-”
“I’m fine!” Artemis huffed stubbornly, though the slight tremble in her voice didn’t go unnoticed by Aizawa.
While that was going on, Bakugou had slowly moved towards the door, probably hoping to remain unseen. Aizawa couldn’t recall a time he’d seen the young man so flustered. The tips of his ears were almost as red as Artemis’s hair.
He sighed and shook his head, deciding to give Bakugou his wish and pretend he hadn’t seen him. Given his explosive temperament, it was probably a better option for everyone involved.
When Bakugou had left, Aizawa shifted his attention back to his newest problem child. He pulled up a chair as best as he could with only one working arm and waited until Recovery Girl had finished patching her up.
“There, that should do it,” the old lady huffed, stepping back.
Now that her treatment was over, Aizawa cleared his throat and asked, “Could I have a moment alone with my student?” His eyes focused on Artemis.
Recovery Girl sighed deeply, but agreed and left through the door. For a few moments, silence fell upon the room as Aizawa sized up the girl in front of him.
Artemis shifted uncomfortably. As usual, he picked up the distrust in her body language, like an animal in a cage, ready to defend itself.
“Miss Moon, what were the conditions that I gave you for taking part in the Sports Festival?” Aizawa asked slowly.
Artemis took a deep breath, her face shifting into an unreadable mask. “You said I was fine to compete as long as I was healthy enough.”
“Then, explain to me why I’m sitting in the Nurse's Office with you after just one round.”
She ground her teeth. “I was fine. I am fine! I don't understand why everyone is making such a fuss.” Despite the conviction in her words, she avoided Aizawa’s eyes.
“Do I really have to explain to you how stupid, irresponsible and reckless your actions were?” asked Aizawa. “As a hero, citizens will depend on you and your abilities, not to mention your teammates. If you can’t admit that you’re not up to a job, you not only endanger yourself, but the people around you.”
With every scolding word, he began to see steel walls rise up between him and his student. A vault with a hundred metal doors. That's what Aizawa could see in Artemis Moon. He’d taken on students with difficult backgrounds before. This one, however, left him puzzled. An unfathomable anger burned deep in her green eyes, though what it was directed towards, exactly, he couldn’t say.
“What does it matter?” she snapped. “In the USJ, I got the job done before the teachers showed up, didn’t I? I would have gotten the job done here, as well! I’m not so weak that I need to be sheltered and babied. Trust me when I say I’ve been through worse.” She got up suddenly. “As long as the objective is cleared and the mission is a success, it doesn't matter what happens to me. Besides, are you really in a position to lecture me at this point, Mr Mummy Man?”
Aizawa sighed inwardly. While he didn’t appreciate being insulted, he also knew that there was no point getting through to her when she was like this. Most other students would have listened to him, but the pure stubborness in this girl acted like a shield between her and his words.
He still hadn’t forgotten what Artemis had said on the bus ride to the USJ. The mindset she’d displayed had been downright concerning for someone so young. What had surprised Aizawa was how she’d acted during the attack itself. He’d read the report of her behaviour carefully several times, and it had left him wondering.
Taking a deep breath, he decided on a different approach. “Answer me one question, then, Artemis. Why are you here?”
That seemed to catch her off guard. “What?” she asked, brows furrowing as if he’d asked her why the sky was blue.
“Why do you want to be a hero?”
Another silence fell between teacher and student. Aizawa watched as Artemis mulled over his words, trying to come up with an answer. Not once did she let her eyes drift from him. She watched his every move, as though she still considered him some kind of threat.
After pacing up and down the room several times, she sat down again.
“I don't,” she said finally. “I don't want to be a hero. Not that I would be any good at it, anyway.”
“Then why did you come to UA?”
“There's… something I must do that’s only possible with a Hero License.”
Aizawa would be lying to himself if he said he hadn’t been expecting an answer like that. The disdain for hero society was apparent in her demeanour.
“All right,” he said. “Let me put it in words you might understand more easily. Your injuries were so serious that you could have damaged your body permanently. You came very close to ending any potential career before it had even begun. Don’t you see that? If Bakugou hadn’t stopped you, everything you’ve planned for in life would go to waste. You’d be absolutely useless.”
He knew his words sounded harsh, even hurtful. Wake-up calls generally weren’t something he enjoyed dishing out, though considering Artemis’s reaction, he’d hit his target.
“You’re old enough to understand that if you’re not capable of keeping yourself alive, you’re not capable of helping anyone,” Aizawa continued. “I don't know what plans you have with your life and I won't pry, but you will not be able to achieve them the way you’re going right now.”
Artemis felt like she’d been slapped in the face. Aizawa gave her a couple of moments to let his words sink in.
“So, what… You’re saying I’m… incapable?” she whispered in a shaky voice.
“No. If I deemed you incapable, I would have expelled you already.” Aizawa’s voice fell to a softer tone. “In fact, I see great potential in you. You said you wouldn’t be a good hero, yet when the life of your classmates were in danger, you did everything you could to save them. You put their needs first. If you ask me, that's exactly what a hero should do. All I ask is that you take your own health more seriously. I don’t want to see a potentially great hero retire before her time.”
“You think… I could be a good hero?”
“As a matter of fact, I do. Now, go get to the showers and join your classmates on the tribunes. I have to get back to Present Mic.”
With that, Aizawa left Artemis to her thoughts. There were many more things he’d wanted to say, and he knew that eventually, he’d have no choice but to tell them to her. However, if gauging her reaction had told him one thing, it was that he had to tread delicately around this subject. One step too far, and she would run, and given the things Aizawa had heard and witnessed from her, he couldn’t afford to have her block him out completely. Not when he believed that he might be able to help her.
--
Artemis stood in the showers and let the hot water run down her skin. Her muscles and head ached, but the sensation of the water was enough to keep her spinning thoughts grounded.
Aizawas words still echoed in her mind. She, a hero? Yeah, right. Even if she had the potential for it, she’d never want to be one. Heroes were glorified to the point of corruption. She’d experienced that first hand. A mental image of her father popped up in her mind and she gritted her teeth.
“I will not be like you,” she hissed.
After washing off the thin layer of grime and sweat the first round had left her with, Artemis slipped into a new set of PE clothes and made her way through the halls of the stadium towards the tribunes.
She hoped to God that Bakugou would be too busy with the competition itself to interact with her again. Artemis still didn't quite know what had come over her when she’d kissed him. Her stomach lurched strangely whenever she thought about it. Not once in her life had she felt like this before. Maybe she really was getting sick.
Artemis decided to avoid the explosive boy for now and investigate this strange feeling later. Her head was still spinning from the conversation with Aizawa, and the painkillers Recovery Girl had given her, while dulling her pain a little, had made her feel woozy. Now that the tension of the festival had subsided, the exhaustion of her own body really was free to take over.
She turned a corner, pondering whether one last can of energy drink would be enough to get her through the day, when she suddenly heard a deep, enthusiastic voice pipe up ahead of her.
“Endeavor! It’s been a while, old friend.”
Artemis recognised All Might’s voice at once, though it was his words that made her frown. Endeavor? What were the country’s two top heroes doing here instead of watching the spectacle?
“Don’t act like we’re friends. I have nothing to say to you, All Might.” Endeavor’s tone was as cold as ice.
All Might barked out a laugh. “Oh, come now. Your son is one of my students! He's doing well. How about we have a little chat?”
“Of course he’s doing well. It’s what’s expected of him.”
Endeavor’s voice sent shivers down Artemis’s spine. She knew she shouldn't eavesdrop on her teacher, but for some reason, her feet just wouldn’t move. If she remembered right, then Endeavor's son was Shoto Todoroki, the boy with the half hot half cold quirk. Artemis had only seen him in action a few times in practice, but even from her limited observations, she could tell that he was strong. Not the most friendly kid she'd ever met, though.
“How about you give me a tip on how to raise the next generations of heroes,” said All Might. “You know, since you have the experience.”
Artemis couldn't tell if All Might was just dense and unable to sense the menace in Endeavor’s attitude, or if he was just blatantly ignoring it.
“And why would I do that? You’d better watch your back, All Might. The boy is my masterpiece! He will surpass you and beat you into the ground. After all, that’s the reason why I created him-”
Artemis’s ears started ringing. She’d had heard this kind of talk before.
You are my masterpiece. My greatest creation! You will pave the way for my glory.
Her stomach dropped, and for a moment, she felt as if someone had knocked the wind out of her. How many times had her father said these exact words to her before making her do something horrifying?
Rage bubbled up in her gut. Endeavor didn’t even seem to feel ashamed for what he had just so openly admitted to the Symbol of Peace, and Artemis found herself wondering what Shoto Todoroki had lived through if the man that spoke exactly like her own father called him son.
Finally forcing herself to move, she turned on her heels and ran.
Artemis had been aware that hero society was anything but heroic, but never had she imagined that the number two hero himself could be just as monstrous as the man that had created her.

the sharp edges of a flower
TITLE: the sharp edges of a flower
AUTHOR/ARTIST: @breyito (read also on AO3)
PROMPT DAY : Day 3- Protection for @geraskierweek
SUMMARY: Three times Jaskier protected Geralt without him knowing it.
WORD COUNT: ~1.8 k
BOOKS/NETFLIX/2002 SHOW/VIDEO GAME: Netflix show
TRIGGERS/WARNINGS: Angst, but mostly not. Hurt/Comfort. Violence, a bit.
RATING: Teen and up
ADDITIONAL NOTES: I wanted to do a 5+1, but it would never be finished, so I cut it here. I *might* write the rest, but I don’t make any promeses. Some fluff to balance the angst of yesterday lol. Tho the last one went away from me a bit and ended sad again.  Sorry ñ.ñ Btw, I do like Yennefer, I just think the relationship between her and Geralt makes no sense. I think she knows what she wants and she can be very selfish (no hate there, so can I) but she's not good for Geralt, so... Oh! The two firsts are in the early stages of their relationship, the third in between those last years. I intended to do a couple more in the middle (and might, maybe, perhaps) so that it would flow better but...
Enjoy!
1-
Jaskier is at the bar, flirting with a lovely lady in a break in his set, when something catches his attention. He overhears a drunkard happily proclaiming that one of the patrons of the tavern is going to poison the Witcher's drink; to see if they really are inmune to such things, as myth and rumours go.
Geralt is upstairs, still cleaning his armor (the bard had stayed until the man was clean, but the menial tasks of leather and sword mantainance were not something he cared for much); so he can't know what will happen when he comes down to have his earned supper.
Jaskier has learned by now that, unless this is a specialized poison Made by a mage, it won't kill the Witcher. It doesnt mean it won't hurt him, though. Humilliate him in front of the townspeople if he gets sick; which is no doubt one of the reasons why every one of the men in the table of this drunkard is laughing; and why the older barmaid is going along with it.
So, instead of causing a scene, he launches into another song; pulling all the barmaids to dance, spinning them around as he marches them to their tables.
He makes sure to spill a little bit of the poison he stashes in one of his rings in all the tankards going to that table (one of the cheapest ones, and a small enough dose that it shouldn't kill, just make them spend their coin in a healer instead of more beer) and distracts the old and bitter barmaid so that the poisoned drink ends in his hand.
If he gets pushed and ends up spilling the liquid over the man eagerly watching the Witcher drink his ale...
Well, he makes sure to act surprised and scared when the man's skin starts to sizzle and burn.
(The Witcher from then on insists on sniffing all the drinks he orders, in case somebody tries to poison the bard again; which causes Jaskier to melt a little, as well as laugh a bit on the inside).
2-
He can see the way people are looking at the Witcher.
And it's allright, perhaps his song about the noble White Wolf has not gotten to this nowhere-town in the middle of this nowhere-kindom yet. But they needed the coin and the people here need a monster slain; so they keep their hate quiet and throw their glares just at their backs, instead of at their faces.
But Jaskier knows how to read a crowd; and he knows that if Geralt stops at the inn they are staying at before he goes to collect his payment they will be run out of town with hateful words and the promise of violence (that happened once, just once; because Jaskier promised himself that as long as he was by the Witcher's side it wouldn't happen again) and no payment. He knows that the people of this town believe themselves to be as important as the capital of their kingdom; despite the fact that Ard Carraigh was a few towns and villages away yet. And they had no problem following their King’s policies against non-humans; which was bad but not much different than in other places, like Cintra and the like. Usually though, those policies didn’ extend towards Witchers; but in this particular town they did. So Jaskier, while Geralt left on his own on a week long and dangerous hunt (not even taking Roach!), separated himself as much as possible from the Witcher, charming people left and right.
He plays people's favorites and requests: ballads about romance and heroic deeds, plays the joyful tunes that make patrons drink more and be more giving; and only mixes in a song about his muse per performance, when he has enough coin at his feet to at least pay for supper and a few other things.
He buys cured meats and dried fruits and stores up on flat bread and hard cheeses, vegetables and fats; flirts on with the market people (pretty lads and shy girls; amused mature women and harsh old ladies) and gets wine, soaps and candies for a lower price, and not double or triple like they would have demanded of the Witcher. It makes him a little sick; to flirt and smile at people that would spit on his friend's face; but he thinks that while this time he won't be able to provide Geralt with a soft bed he will at least be able to give him these little luxuries, and that is worth it; so he keeps at it.
When he hears the firsts whispers of the Witcher on his way back; he packs all of their stuff and saddles Roach after bribing her with some stolen apples (the vendor had tried to get him into his bed while insulting Geralt, so he had apologized profusely, citing a previous appointmet, while he snuck the best fruits for the mare, a big fake smile plastered on his face) and marches her down to the Alderman's house. Geralt sees him there and stops, and before the Witcher can get mad at him for touching his horse he starts to babble about sleeping with the butcher's daughter and the butcher's wife and the need to flee the town before he is found and butchered in a goresome fashion.
Geralt grumbles and curses him for the lack of a proper bath to get the filth of the hunt off him; but goes into the Aldermans house to get his coin anyways. He comes out, pouch in hand and mounts Roach and they leave.
He helps the witcher wash off in a stream later, under the warm sun; and it's paceful. He's gentle as he uses the sage soap he bought for the delicate nose of the man, and as he cleans then combs the silver hair with the same care he shows his previous lute. He insists the Witcher rests the rest of the day; to sleep. Then, when Geralt wakes up, Jaskier insists he uses the free time to clean his armor and blades, instead of packing up and setting camp again in a few hours. He uses the vegetables and some meat to make a sturdy stew as a treat; and snares and roasts two rabbits for dinner. If he lets Geralt believe he does all of this as a way to pay him back, well...that is his bussines and his bussines alone.
(The butcher had no daughter and had no wife. Because there was no butcher in this town.)
3-
He protects Geralt from Yennefer once, incredibly. The Witcher is on a hunt (a nest of kikimoras and a new queen, so the bard stayed behind but the horse went along) when the witch shows up at the one tavern the bard happens to be performing at, of all the taverns in the whole city. It has been only three months since the last time they encountered her (and Gerlat has barely started to let him touch him with gentleness when he’s not injured, has just begun relaxing his shoulders and giving that barely-there smile of his that is so endearing Jaskier could die of tenderness) so Jaskier ends his set, finishes his drink like a shot and sits in front of her, and bluntly asks her what does she want to leave before the Witcher comes back.
The mage is amused and surprised; so she plays his game. She tells him she wants the silver dagger that the Witcher gave him a few years ago, for protection. She knows the emotional value that it has, she has seen how the bard sharpens it and always has it on him. She also knows its one of the only gifts the Witcher ever gave the bard, and how the bard cherises it.
He swallows but doesn’t hesitate to reach for the sheat and put the dagger on the table between them. Yennefer is surprised but smiles anyways, and starts to gently caress the blade; and mockingly asks how he will explain the loss of something so precious. Jaskier tells her that that’s not her problem, but if she wants to know; he will say he got attacked and defended himself, and the attacker left with the dagger still inside them. She laughs at his story, asks if he thinks the Witcher will buy it. Jaskier answers yes.
The mage then asks why he would part with this gift, when he surely knows they will just meet in another few weeks or moths; because at this point they all agree that whatever the Witcher and the Witch have between them is inescapable. He says that Geralt is not healed yet, that he needs a little more time before he’s ready for her to empty and crash his heart again. She flinches at this assesment; and when she tries to say that she loves him; Jaskier responds that she loves him because she knows she can use him and discard him and he will still be there the next time.
She waits a moment then asks, sickly sweet, that it’s the same way Geralt treats him, is it not? The bard laughs bitterly, but explains the difference: Yennefer knows Geralt will be there and does the things she does because of this; Geralt does it because he’s still testing him, because he doesn’t think Jaskier will still be there, believes he doesn’t deserve it. So how can the bard hold it against him; when it’s people like her that made him believe he’s unworthy of love and devotion?
The war of looks makes the place spark with tension, and even the most drunk of patrons is mostly quiet. Yennefer knows her eyes are swirling with chaos, yet the poet doesn’t back down, keeps looking and looking and looking at her. His eyes are determined, even as tears escape and his lashes shiver. He doesn’t look away. Eventually, she does. She grabs the dagger and stands up, leaving.
Jaskier is lucky Geralt is dizzy with blood loss and too many potions when he comes back; because even though he washed and changed clothes the man can still smell the fucking lilac; and it’s easier to spin a lie about the gorgeous perfume seller and the dagger that is still in the side of her brother when the Witcher’s senses are not at their best. It’s also easier to deal with the dissapoinment in the men’s eyes when the other is delirious and won’t smell his tears.
(The next time they meet the mage in a town she gives him a barely-there nod before she focuses all her attention on the Witcher. Jaskier still turns around and rents a room in the rundown inn at the other side of the town. He never sees his dagger again.)

I've seen anti-saphael posts that only focus on Raphael's faults and act like Simon is a poor uwu baby who did nothing wrong and is being hurt by the big mean vampire man. Okay... Raphael wanted his people to be safe and Simon wanted some of that entitled ginger pussy no matter the cost. But sure. Raphael is the bad guy.
why do i feel like im being lured into a trap idndjdndidndidndj to be fair im not anti-saphael or anti-simon, i think that they could have a lot of potential together, especially in the future, when things settle down and simon is more mature and etc, i think they could be really good for each other. i even wrote a few fics revolving around this (okay i wrote two but you know), i think there was a lot of shit between them but nothing that can't be fixed over time
with that being said! i think the problem with how some ppl perceive raphael and simon's relationship is that classic "taking a legitimate reaction to aggression as violence, but not the aggression that incited it" that happens a lot with marginalised ppl's, particularly poc. nine times out of ten, raphael lashed out at simon for legitimate reasons, because simon was absolutely, 100%, comitting acts of aggression against him and the vampires, but not the obvious, physical/verbal violence kind. Raphael, in turn, responded by yelling or being verbally violent, and that's what people focus on, instead of the fact that he was actually... pretty goddamn patient with simon
a good example on that is the scene when Simon went to talk to raphael about the Daylighter thing. ppl complain that Raphael yelled at him. but he asked simon to leave him alone three times. he was clearly distraught, in tears, the person he loved most in the world had just died, and simon wouldnt fucking respect that! and then raphael screamed at him, and hes the bad guy, because you know, he screamed. but that was a reaction to the very violent act on simon's part of not allowing him to grieve his own goddamn sister, and demanding that he stop everything and help simon, despite the fact that he didnt owe simon that
not to mention everything else surrounding simon and rosa. people are very quick to forget that simon threatened to hurt rosa, idc if it was izzy's idea and he was reluctant, he still did it, and besides, that's all that raphael knows about it. not to mention he refused to help raphael with the Daylighter thing, and because of that, he didn't even get to go to her funeral. but then he demands Raphael help him with the very same thing. on the day that she died. thats pretty fucking violent, if you ask me
and look, im not saying simon is a bad guy, because hes definitely not, hes actually very fucking sweet. but he is extremely entitled (particularly on the earlier seasons), just as much as clary and jace. and he also has no clue what he's getting himself into, from the start. he doesn't understand that his actions have consequences, hes careless, and because of that, he puts all of their lives at risk. he got Raphael tortured because he was so careless. that's a real thing that happened. Raphael was tortured because of simon
and again, i dont think he meant that to happen, i think he was dumb, and that he only had shadowhunters' version of the facts, and he was way too blinded by Clary. he was also clearly very, very immature, and that's something that we got to see him grow out of a little bit. but there was a war going on, and Raphael had a people to lead and save, a responsibility with them all. he didn't have the time to patiently explain the facts of life to Simon (who btw never cared to listen), and even then, he tried to. Raphael tried to reach out to Simon and help him so many times it's not even funny. hell, if it weren't for him, clary wouldnt even have gotten his body back. he tried time and time again to get Simon to understand, and Simon didnt, and kept getting him and all of the vampires at risk. so Raphael lashed out. and then of course, hes the violent one. but people ignore that Raphael's reaction to him was legitimate, because Simon was, even if unknowingly, risking all of their lives and wellbeing. and if thats not violence, i dont know what is
one more time! im not saying simon is a bad person. i really, really dont think he is. i think he's actually one of the most well intentioned people in shadowhunters, but intention, even if it matters a lot, isnt everything. and it particularly isnt everything when there are lives at stake. it particularly isnt everything when you refuse to listen, and act entitled because Raphael was, from the beginning, kind as fuck to him
I'm also not saying Raphael is perfect, because he said some pretty hurtful shit. but i am saying that he was always acting in defense, not attack. Raphael never, not once, was the one to attack Simon first. but Simon didnt do it with words, and so ppl who dont understand what its like to suffer microagressions dont see where he's coming from
with all of that being said, id like to reiterate again that i still think their relationship has potential. i think that the fact that they still clearly like each other even after everything that's happened between them (hell, simon was willing to die for Raphael) means a lot. I think that Simon has grown up, and has the potential to grow up, a lot, and that in more peaceful times, as im going to assume they will be post-canon because our boys deserve it, okay, they could be really, really good for each other. i think Simon has the potential to not only break Raphael out of his shell, but also make him really look at himself in a different light, and Raphael has the potential to help simon grow and be more sure footed, steadier, more confident.
that doesnt mean they would erase all that happened, but i think they could build good things despite it all, if they talked it through and really understood each other, which i think they could do because theyre both very empathic people. it's one of the things that draw me to their dynamics; their potential for forgiveness, for re-examining themselves, for seeing how context dramatically changed their relationship and dynamics because in a less vicious context, they are good together. so yeah. i dont think what happened between them has to be between them forever, although i do hate it when ppl simply ignore it
but the perception that Raphael was the violent one and Simon wasnt is definitely rooted in an entitled, blind to microagressions point of view, and that's something that needs to be addressed, even within their relationship, if you want it to really work post-canon

talking abt the visual novel characters under the cut <3
mayhart player character. red-haired human commoner, youngest child of her family, last child born of her mother before mother died and father remarried. shorter than average (5′2″ as female, 5′5″ as male) named mayhart because she was born on the fourth of may. wild & uncontrollable, bearing a rage that she herself doesn’t even understand. grew up a commoner alongside her childhood friend yerick. widely rumored in town to be a changeling- she doesn’t act the way a normal human should, never knowing when to leave well enough alone or how to calm down and settle for her lot in life (the number of times when she, accompanied with yerick, has been chased back to town by some beast she provoked in the woods is uncountable). was recently conscripted into the army and adopted by the duchess koballe after her latent magic appeared. one of very few people who can use offensive magic and not purely reconnaissance/traveling magic. finally has an outlet for her rage, and somewhat hates the things she does. wears standard military uniform but badly- doesnt entirely understand how all the straps & bindings work and will not learn :) as the player character, she can be male or female. as a male, his rage turns inward, and as a result he is less open with his own emotions and keeps all his feelings hidden within himself. openly contemptuous of the war, but far more polite than his female counterpart. neither version holds any respect for anyone who hurts the weak. neither can hold their liquor either. 21 in human years
demavieve eldest princess of the draconic realm- as such, the future sovereign. the draconic realm is the only country allied with perine in this war which makes several people very nervous (its like if the us allied with luxembourg in a war against belgium france germany & the uk excep the us was the only country with nukes). demavieve has a very strong sense of honor though so constrains herself to a human form along with swordplay. this is less dangerous than it seems because if demavieves human form dies then she just turns back into her draconic form. her human form also has red hair, but its far more tameable than mayhart’s. she wears it tied back in a ponytail in general. she wears a perine knight’s uniform with vestments from the draconic realm to signify that she is (a) a foreign-lent soldier and (b) a commander. her human form is muscular and about 6′6″. hot and well aware of it.arrogant but also very friendly about it- ‘you love me? haha, of course you are! you seem great too!’. kind of sees this whole thing as a game- dragons live a lot longer than humans, and something like this is just a blip on her radar. very low empathy until someone she cares about is hurt at which point everything goes out the window (and she cares about pretty much all the perine soldiers- not in a very respectful way, but she loves them all and she goes apeshit sometimes). very friendly with serenina. can absolutely hold her liquor. only romanceable as f!mayhart. 23 in human years, ~150 in real time.
serenina the only princess of the former emperor and empress. i spoke about her in more detail in another post so this is gonna mostly be glossed over. wears her hair in afropuffs cause she does her own hair and shes proud of it. temporal (reconnaissance) magic. desperate to please. legally only friends with demavieve, although also friendly with yerick. about 5′0″ although she desperately wants to grow taller (unlikely). her eyes look like theyre black but if you look closely (which she probably wont let you do) theyre actually purple/indigo. is completely out of touch with the rest of the world because shes a princess but she is also very sincere and tries her best to be helpful when she can. very expressionless and sensible. not very well-liked as the former princess of the warmongering emperor and empress. actually very touch starved. does not wear standard military uniform outside of mage’s robes, which she wears over tea dresses (which is another reason some soldiers dislike her) is kept away from alcohol as much as grayson can and as such will get drunk off half a cup of wine. sleepy drunk. 18 in human years.
grayson the bastard son of the former emperor, sereninas older half-brother. grew up as a commoner in the same area as serenina & yerick until he was brought into the royal castle at age 9. fiercely protective of serenina. faux affable- you know the ‘expressionless smile’ princes from otome games/manga always have? thats graysons face pretty much always. legally not eligible to the crown (due to some religious issues with committing patricide & stepmatricide) but like. like hes already doing everything? yk how it is. highest commander of his troops attempting to broker peace with the other countries perine was at war with (most noticeably alloue, nawolem, & farik in order to attack caledonia, which was the puppeteer behind the former reign) but is not above underhanded methods/tactics including attacking noncombatant targets (they dont even have geneva). very intelligent & very calculating- consistently calculates highest reward/lowest risk maneuvers and has them executed flawlessly. his own cunning scares him on occasion, but he mostly locks that away- theres no time for those kinds of feelings in war. a foil to f!mayhart- she is wild, he is restrained; she shows her true feelings regardless, he always acts at a happy neutral; mayhart confronts her uncomfortable feelings, grayson hides them from everyone. about 5′11″, has long dreads that he keeps tied back. dressed in perfect military regalia, including commander’s cape & military crown (basically just a circlet). also cant hold his liquor- hes nearly as bad as serenina. 25 in human years.
izyn the son of count dau claire, the only noble house in perine that has been loyal to grayson since before the deaths of the former emperor and empress. very quiet because he has social anxiety. completely brainless. very friendly but his height (6′4″) and imposing aura (he gets nervous) means that the only people who can easily communicate with him are yerick and grayson. black hair, cropped short, and green eyes. skilled swordsman, mid-commander. will get trapped in an unwinnable situation which yerick needs to save him from. wears his military uniform right but...........not really? he wears the base uniform right but always forgets his commander’s cape. has a dedicated fanbase that came about when he did his training shirtless. literally doesnt think that any of his problems are that deep (honestly doesnt think anything is that deep). suffice to say, theres a reason why count dau claire never shows up and doesnt seem to be involved in any of the decision making of the count’s matters. very protective of yerick (younger brother). is the most visibly affected by the war- as the one who is usually in the center of the violence and doesnt have a survival cheat like demavieve, he has pretty bad ptsd which coupled with his anxiety issues make him a hot mess. his hobbies include hiding in dark rooms that have been reinforced to the point where literally only yerick can get in. despite his size he gets drunk very easily- not as bad as grayson & serenina, but 1-2 mugs of beer puts him out. 26 in human years. only romanceable as m!mayhart
yerick adopted son of count dau clarie. childhood friend of mayhart. born an orphan, an old woman took care of him til he was 4 and she died. stuck around mayharts town cause their family would give him food whenever he stopped by. still ended up fairly malnourished. small but vicious- hes screamed at mayhart lots of times for the stupid shit they would get him into and is not afraid to smack some sense into them. however he is not a good fighter because hes physically very weak- most of his energy in developing went to his magical capabilities, which came to fruition when he was 6. about a year after that (with a great deal more shunning from the townsfolk besides mayhart), he was adopted by count dau claire. was sealed with a subordination seal (used in order to ensure compliance with reasonable requests as long as a reasonable argument is made) for a year to ensure that he wouldnt run away. izyn liked him right away, but it took about 18 months for yerick to not be completely vicious whenever he was approached. as of the modern day of the vn, yerick is as protective over izyn as izyn is him- yerick has seen some of the worst of the world, and in his opinion izyn has not (this is despite the fact that izyn helped overthrow the royal family at age 15 but in fairness to him izyn told yerick none of this) so he wants to make sure his big brother stays happy. yerick holds absolutely no loyalty towards count dau claire or even to grayson- he is loyal to his own needs first, with a decent second being izyn and an even further distant third being mayhart & their family. very prickly & well acquainted with the fact that most people are inherently selfish and would turn away from an orphan on the streets. abandonment issues. his spatial magic is mostly used on rescue ops (mostly mostly getting izyn out of situations where hes surrounded by enemy soldiers but this extends to other perine soldiers). wears his uniform properly, including mage’s robes & commander’s cape over the standard perine uniform. hates to ever appear weak ever, so when he has to go to the medical tent izyn has to either force him there or pretend to be tsundere and throw bandages at him. izyn desperately wants to dote on him but that is one of yericks Hard Boundaries. theres like ONE time when yerick falls asleep because of arcane overexertion and izyn piggybacks him back to camp and yerick acts like its the most shameful secret in the world. foil to m!mayhart- very open with his anger & feelings and shows when he is angry and accepts that part of himself, open with his loyalties and doesnt give a fuck about it, doesnt like the war but does respect it. despite his size, it takes easily 3 barrels of alcohol to even get him tipsy, izyns lack of alcohol tolerance pisses him off cause he has to walk him back to his tent. 5′4″ and wants to grow taller but has accepted his fate. 19 in human years.
eliya legally not a combatant. former princess of caledonia, was discovered at 12 to hold the power of the divine will and so was sent away from her mother and father (who she perceived as loving) to be raised within the church as a holy sacrifice (those who hold the power of the divine will release a huge psychic shockwave when theyre killed, so she was basically raised to be a holy tyke bomb). has a lot of religious obsession, prays 3x a day and has been brainwashed into believing in the power of holy judgement- essentially, her church handler (aka the deacon of the church where she was raised) has raised her to believe that if she commits a sin she’ll be killed so she has a LOT of anxiety over doing the right thing.at the same time shes been brainwashed into believing that doing anything in the service of the throne of caledonia is morally & theologically correct. shes also had occasional contact with her parents (like a yearly dinner or smth) and so still has a lot of loyalty to them due to how they manipulated her and her relationship with her little siblings (7 yrs younger x 2, 2 yrs younger, 13 yrs younger). completely devoted to her church, would gladly martyr herself for them (however this wouldnt trigger the shockwave needed by the army). is loyal to her parents, the deacon, and then the church. is captured by the perine army after a raid on a noncombatant area and spends a lot of time figuring herself out. foil to serenina (esp in terms of loyalty & parents/siblings, emotions (eliya has a lot of them and shows them, serenina is the opposite), their royal treatment, their relationship with trust (serenina doesnt, eliya does and worringly easily). long golden hair, light blue eyes. wears neither a military uniform nor a priests’ uniform, instead wears a one-piece white ‘dress’ (really more a tunic/oversized shirt) & is barefoot. desperate for attention, praise, love, etc. widely disliked due to her POW status but she really thinks shes making all these friends. has quite literally not been able to make her own choices since she was 12 years old. above average alcohol tolerance but nowhere near yerick. 19 in human years.

Thoughts on Other Students in 3H
in no particular order
Hubert: evil snake boi, i kinda like you. i just wish there was more actual meat to ya then what there is. still, he does his role effectively and unlike edelgard plays into the whole evil empire thing with more gusto so i ironically find him more palatable because atleast the game isnt trying to pretend he isnt shady as fuck.
Dedue: oddly charming despite his straight laced attitude, he gets some interesting nuance in how well he highly respects (cough loves cough) dimitri and likes individual people from the blue lions, he doesnt have any particular fondness for faerghus as a whole which is definitely understandable given his history. hes essentially using the camus/murdoch aspect of undying loyalty and even borrows elements of the female camuses line of romantic interest in their liege however heavily implied it might be and applying that to a male playable character. Plus he just has some fun and interesting interactions with other characters in general.
Lorenz: I have difficulty saying whether i like him. on the one hand, he ended up being more multidimensional then i thought he was going to be with his internal conflict between keeping up appearances for the sake social status and societal order and his desire to pursue his own personal interests and ideals against the needs of his father and thus societal conventions. on the other hand, the game never really runs with this as much as it should and hes still treated as a bit of a joke character so... c+ to b?
Ingrid: the token heterosexual of the blue lions whos still kinda gay anyways, her whole struggle with being a knight over a housewife seems a bit odd on the surface considering theres plenty of female knights and no one throws much of a fuss in universe, until you learn that it isnt so much that society expects her to do it as matter of course and more so that shes struggling with whether to pursue personal duty to her family or personal desires and ideals kinda like lorenz. in that respect she hits the mark a bit better then he does.
Raphael: kinda insubstantial but i liked him anyways, his sheer exuberance can be kinda refreshing in the games darker moments and hes got a few angles of his own such as his refusal to consider his parents deaths as part of a larger conspiracy so as to not hurt his friendship with ignatz nor ruin his own life and his sisters. plus hes just generally a nice guy. like a big huggable bear. just a shame that being a nice kinda dumb huggable bear is all thats really done with him.
Ignatz: his painting stuff and personal insecurities about wanting to do it over being a knight which his parents want him to do, more of that duty over desires and ideals thing again, is well enough and his probably misplaced guilt over raphaels misfortunes is definitely a highlight of him but he never really grabs as a character for some reason. probably because theres a lot of other characters in the game that hit those same marks and do it better then him.
Sylvain: has a lot of aspects that never really feel like they get proper follow up, his big thing is less womanizer and more so that he covers up his own mistrust and personal feeling by pretending to be a shameless flirt and philanderer. basically, maybe the emotional pain will go away if i flirt with girls and act the fool. but again there never really feels like theres any proper follow up for all this, others comment on it and then its more often then not dropped in story. hes fun enough but never really realized if that makes sense.
Caspar: shonen protagonist is kinda an apt word to describe him honestly, and that idealism of his clashes with the more grey on grey morality of the world hes within which is never a particularly bad direction to take the shonen bois in if done well like hunter x hunter. And he is done well, or at least satisfactorily to the point that hes another one i ended up liking more then i thought i would. his problem is more so that his interactions with most other characters in the main cast which feel duller then they should on most occasions.
Dorothea: probably gonna get a bit of shit for this, but i have no interest in her. her insecurities about her future and getting a good husband is well and interesting but manuela does that better honestly and outside of that dorotheas a bit... not shallow but hazy and insubstantial if you will. she obviously has appeal to people but like ignatz she failed to grab me in part because others did what she did and better within the game itself.
Ashe: soft boi chose to be soft instead of hard, one of the characters i found liking and one i expected to kinda like to begin with. in game he gets accused of being childish and naive a lot but i dont see it personally, hes not naive but more so tries to look for the best in people and in life like lonato did all those years ago for him. that said, the speed with which lonato dies damages his identity as a character a bit by happening before we really get a chance to feel for his relation to lonato, its not to big a bug bear as it doesnt hurt his character all that much but it does feel a bit frustrating.
Felix: teenage angst personified, his main gripes seem to be a distaste of warrior culture and its glorification of bloodshed and sacrifice but instead of approaching it with sadness or pacifism, he lashes out against what he feels is the unfairness of the world. hes not exactly wrong in his feelings and as a character it makes sense and works for his abrasive attitude, and its an interesting twist to the navarre type to have their isolation come not from stoicism nor sheer blood lust or a combo of the two but rather from a rage against the machine of society mindset.
Ferdinand: he got more interesting as i got farther along, and i personally feel he works the best as a character when going against edelgard since thats where more of his personal drama comes from. hes eager to succeed and prove himself worthy of his title over time and holds a chivalrous mindset very similar to others in the cast but his growth is less about learning how to hold onto those ideals in the face of reality for the sake of personal fulfillment but more so about learning to define himself by himself and not by societies needs. ultimately he comes to value chivalry not because its what people tell him to value but because he truly values it and i enjoy that. but its also why i feel he works better on other routes then edelgards since there hes still valuing himself not for himself but for the expectations society or edelgard in this case is placing him under, one tyrant for another in a sense. i admit i dont remember much about him on edelgards route though because i just like him more on the others.
Leonie: poorly timed support aside, she has an odd charm to her that a lot of modern fire emblem characters just dont have anymore. but knuckling past jeralt senpai shes an interesting blend of stingy and work effort that goes to inform itself and her relations to others. and like a lot of the golden deer she has a lackadaisical attitude of ‘i might not know what the fuck is happening, but i do know someone needs an ass whooping!’ and it works especially well in her case since her character is very attuned towards focusing more on her personal matters then the grand scheme of things because she has rent due in a few months. if she was in a more traditional fe set up she would definitely be a beowolf archtype that you need to pay to recruit. in fact im surprised thats not an option on other routes to begin with for her.
Hilda: honestly suprised me by not being a pure serra type. she has aspects of that on the surface with the selfish almost vain attitude towards life and others bur well serra is more about puffing herself up to hide insecurity and contribute towards a desperate desire for grand social status, Hilda downplays herself and her abilities due to living in her brothers shadow if unintentionally and seeing the stress it can bring. they’re both lazy and vain, on the surface anyways, always getting others to do their work for them but well serra seeks more social status to escape it hilda seeks less social status to escape it. plus it was kinda funny to see hilda act as claudes unofficial number 2 you could still recruit.
Lindhart: Sleepy boi needs a nap and thats kinda it really. exaggeration maybe but unlike a lot of characters in the game and the series as a whole he really doesnt have a reason to be there as a character. as a unit certainly but not a character, in terms of motivation anyways. He hates blood, fighting and violence, hed rather sleep or pursue personal interests then work or politics, hes insightful and intelligent but the important players in the plot have other advisers and hes not interested in stepping up in that regard anyways. his only real reason for being there is academic interest and even then a pin has to be put in that when war breaks out. hes not a bad character overall though, his sleepiness and insight make for an interesting double act along with his blunt mannerisms, i just have trouble pinning down motivations for him.
Mercedes: big team mom energy, which i suppose goes along with the whole being older then everyone thing. a bit dopey and airheaded at first glance shes one of the more receptive characters to how others are feeling and well she does try to nurture shes not above scolding if she feels it would help someone more then praise and reassurance. of course shes also very detached to events of the world mostly just there to help the people around her from the bottom rather then the top which is not an insult and more one of the things i find fascinating about her. it all makes for a very interesting character and one of my personal favorites of the cast.
Annette: overworker, issues with her dad, magic bubbly, and hits things with axes. a nice recipe of a character but it never feels as if the game can get it all to blend properly. more so to the point is that most of these elements work independently of each other and not to inform each other despite the games insistence. theres a lot of dramatic potential involving her father as well and though the game makes the best use of those aspects its not to the benefit of the rest of her character. it doesnt hurt her either though and she has some appealing dialogue with other characters.
Marianne: I had trouble getting to like her, perhaps more so then any other character among the other students. not because i hated her but because shes, well, very boring. alot of the characters in the game are into the self deprecation thing already and well her personality aspects of acting quite and submissive to fall into the background from a lack of self confidence it also feels like the game came up with two different explanations for it and couldnt settle on whether it was because of her adoptive fathers pressure or her families history and instead of weaving both together decided to use them interchangeably. Sometimes shes a wallflower because of her father and a lack of confidence to state her mind and self loathing over that lack of confidence, other times its because of her lineage and self loathing over her cursed history. never really at the same time.
Bernadetta: another odd favorite for me. recent support changes aside, the basic gist of her history remains the same in that her father was a tyrant in regards to her future which caused her to grow up with no confidence and a crippling fear of society, so shes already off to a good start as a character by basically doing mariannes schtik but better. well its hard for me to definitely say she ever grows past that as a character, thats fine in my opinion because her development is less stop being a recluse because society demands you dont and more so about making actual friends and learning that not all people are garbage fires just most of them. in most of her supports anyways. she just feels the most rewarding to interact with alright, and she was the one i always felt the most upset to mess up a speak thing with. Let us hug and stay inside watching cartoons together.
Petra: i went in wanting to like her and really liking her at first, but shes hit a middle of the road for me now. her speech gimmick wasn't particularly egregious and gets even less noticeable after the timeskip, but her actual character is a very straight forward ‘national pride demands independence’ package and doesnt really escape past that boundary all that much. its very understandable motivation, id even go so far as to say that shes the one with the best reasons to betray the empire of the black eagles characters, so like ferdinand i feel she works better outside of the black eagles in term of her own character identity and motivation/development as she finally stands up for her peoples right to exist on their own in an fe6 echidna kinda fashion. outside of that though shes... foreign to the other characters. thats kinda it.
Lysithia: as a unit she hits like a truck, as a character shes functional but hardly revolutionary for the series. i mean i did like her since i have a fondness for her archtype of weird magic prodigy poor social skills, but more so that she doesn't hit any particularly new notes in that regard. Shes a lot of lute, with some delthea childishness in her, some of sanakis sharper political wit and dark history, and a bit of miriels scientist on top. that said its all blended very nicely and she has some nice scenes for herself that got me to feel and care for her, some kinda adorable moments, and a history well woven into the games background and more so then most of the other deer and a lot of the other characters from across the houses in general. for a minor character anyways.
you may now all stone me to death.

She is the so called "Princess of Hells Cross High", a genderfluid shape shifter who loves causing mischief and slacking off. She changes his gender whenever they feel like it. Child of the queen of Hell, Lucifer. There father is a shape shifter so he is a half shape shifter. He always wears his crown due to missing home, but plays it off as showing off his power. He and Virgil have known each other since they where kids and there family is very close, they are best friends and Patton has a crush on Virgil. He came to the school on his parents request, and wants to marry Virgil, whom he believes is the person he's destined to marry from a prophecy he was told as a child. The prophecy in question was one where a heroic demi god born from the celestial goddess would join the sky's above and the depths below by defeating the evil prince born from the queen of hell with love, joining the two kingdoms in a peace treaty. He's very certain that Virgil is the one from the prophecy (and totally not because Virgil is super cute or anything nahhh). Hes very heroic and strong headed so he tends to act before thinking (ie. Proposing to Virgil in the middle of the hallway). He and the dragon witch do not get along to a point where its almost comical to watch them argue. His halo is actually a color humans and non celestial beings can't comprehend, thus it looks blue in the day and yellow at night, and it always glows. He's not very social and sticks to the others. Most people call him Deceit since nobody but the group knows his real name. He tends to let his pet python penny rest around his shoulders when he goes out and is very rarely seen without her. He has a slight lisp when pronouncing the letter S, and gets embarrassed by it. His snake tail moves to convey how he's feeling, and he can use it like an extra arm. He has pointed elf like ears but he tends to wear a cat ear shaped beanie to hide them. His stomach, legs (knee's down), and random patches around his body are a soft lavender. He tends to hang out in the city more then on the school grounds, and despite never going through his school allowance, works at a coffee shop called madam espresso, he gets paid in free coffee. He likes Virgil's attitude and tends to hang around him. Alot of people refer to Remy as Virgil's lacky, despite Virgil absolutely despising that term since Remy is one of his best friends. Emilie Pacini
Emilie Pacini is a unrestable spirit currently possesing a life sized doll. they love femmine clothing and lean more to the femminie side of the gender spectrum. Emilie isnt much of a fighter and as such only has magic to defend herself. he can posses other people with consent. He is on a waiting list to get a human body of a recently deceased, but its difficult because he's so young. He still ages (like all permanent spirits) and constantly has to modify the doll whenever he feels like she's supposed to grow, cut hair, adjust weight ect. But because of the limitations of the doll they can't be there actual weight, which tends to depress him slightly.
