Ppl complain abt historia having no role, but do they realise her own character decided to sideline herself for her safety???? Thats literally on her character, she wanted to make it out alive. The role ur talking abt, she also given that option like fighting directly but she choose not to??? She could have done alot, heck she even knew erens plan and involved in politics yet she CHOOSE not to bc she couldn't afford putting herself in risk because shes selfish, thats literally her character, that's literally the role she choose based on the type of character she is.
Yall say aotnr gives her role when its literally the same she chooses to get pregnant and does nothing, wheres that so called role??? The pregnancy was not shown as something romantic for her, yet it's on y'all who romanticized it, not only that, you think whether its good/bad depends on whose d*ck she gets??? And you think getting the mcs dick gives her a role? or on who she gives birth to??! Technically shes literally the same in AotNr but u think the baby who she gives birth to or who she has sex with gives her role, but nothing about herself and the type of person she is
Giving her unnecessary screentime which has no relation to plot, n doesn't change anything doesn't give her any role either as u see in the fanfic

This is why erehisu anr eren does not make abit of sense, he is the contrast type of loveršand they dont even understand this much then how can they understand eren as a whole lmao
Thinking of how Eren isnt "lets do this together and share the burden" lover, hes the "i may be a monster but she has nothing to do with it, im gonna keep her away from it and dont you dare to associate her with it" lover
And i think alot of ppl dont get it

As much as I have love/hate relationship with this fandom, what I quite canāt understand is how much people try to paint Erenās actions as one-dimensional or use ābecause I was born into this worldā rather than actually looking into how his actions were explained across the last arc from the moment he finally arrived to Paradis.
As I said here, Eren himself was the biggest mystery of WfP. But as much as he was, Isayama strategically used flashbacks to explain why and what led Eren to what he did.
Overall, the reason for rumbling is divided into: for Eldians and Paradis, for friends, and for freedom.
For Paradis and Eldians
The first flashbacks we got was in ch 106, where they had a meeting to discuss how to work with volunteers and try to understand Zekeās intentions. Even during that time Armin mentioned how rumbling can protect Eldians and Paradis.
Armin and others were still hopeful about being able to negotiate with Marley and come to a peaceful agreement, but the biggest problem they had is time. Thereās physically no time for them to come up with a solution because Marley is still persistent on acquiring Founderās power and Eldians inside of walls (I talked about it here).
The next set of flashbacks was in ch 107, when Paradis finally met with Hizuru. During the meeting Kiyomi proposed a plan where Eren should activate a small-scale rumbling to win 50 years to advance and get on the same level as the outer world. But the nuance of the plan was that royal family will need to pass the power down from generation to generation, which didnāt align with their morals.
Another catch is that besides the Beast Titan, Founder would definitely need to be passed down as well and the biggest nuance is hereā¦Royal blood Founders would be affected by the vow and thereās no guarantee that those 50 years wouldnāt be wasted. Therefore, Eren said:
Eren knew that they canāt waste any time waiting and entrusting the future to people who werenāt born yet. Thereās no guarantee that such a long-term plan will succeed and the outer world will magically come to agreement with the nation that terrorized them for centuries before. The flame of hatred is still hot and fierce. The world want them to be gone as soon as possible. Thereās no time left for brainstorming and negotiations.
For friends
Erenās suspicious behavior sparked a big discussion between Connie, Jean, Armin and Mikasa. They were confused, angry, and lost in why and what Eren is doing. They didnāt know who the person arrived is. It wasnāt Eren they knew, but yet Mikasa was the one believing that he still cares about them, which introduced us to the railroad flashback.
Eren knew that as much as they are excited and hopeful about showing the world that they arenāt monsters and are open to confrontations, they donāt have time because world want them to be gone. They still hate them no matter what they do.
It is undoubtedly that Eren loved them and wanted his friends to be living long and happy lives. He didnāt want them to be burdened with the weight of his fate and choices because he cares about them.
But even then, considering everything that happened in Liberio, they were questioning Erenās real intentions. They could no longer trust them at that time.
Additionally, we got ch 112 and in ch 116/118 when Jean and Armin said:
They were the people who wanted to know Erenās intentions behind his alliance with Zeke the most. Then Eren activated the full-scale rumbling in ch 119/122 and in ch 123 we got another flashback.
From Mikasaās pov, she and others finally understood that the outer world doesnāt want them alive, just as Eren knew. They no longer had time. They āno longerā had Eren on their side.
But even then, Eren was still on their side because he triggered the attack on Liberio that won their side some time. Though, the time they had was not enough and Marley attacked again, and he had to activate the rumbling.
There, they finally understood Mikasaās words:
Eren partly did it for them too, but did it make them accept the fate and opportunity Eren gave them? No. They fought while being driven by their conscience and morals. They were free to do what they want despite them being confused about Erenās intention behind it again.
As we l found out later, Eren wanted them to be perceived as heroes and give them a chance to witness the world without walls even if it cost him to bury his humanity and let his desires and passions to consume him. Because he cares about them. He knew that they have their own goals and dreams about peaceful life.
For freedom
The last and the most complicated reason why Eren did this.
Freedom for Eren was not just a concept, it was not just a desire, it was what shaped his mindset and drove him for years.
As I wrote in Erenās weaknesses, heās a maximalist with polarized thinking. Thereās either everything or nothing for him. Itās all black or white. No in between.
Freedom he desired made him drunk, chained, and enslaved because it didnāt liberate him, but made Eren be focused on achieving something that doesnāt exist nor what he canāt experience. Eren failed to understand that he canāt find what doesnāt exist within him.
The flashback that revealed a big chunk of his personal goal regarding freedom was ch 131, when Eren was crushed by the reality he witnessed. The world beyond the sea and walls wasnāt what he expected. It wasnāt the idealized world he created in his mind the moment Armin showed him the book. He was disappointed, he wanted to vanish it as a child whose parents didnāt give him what he desired.
Eren tried to rationalize other peopleās opinion on Eldians being eradicated, but he still couldnāt accept it. It is not how things should be. Reality was too hard for him to comprehend because of how maximalist and immature Eren can be.
Eren knew what he is going to do is extremely wrong, but same as Reiner who wanted to achieve glory by becoming a warrior and attacking wall Maria, he still went for it because thatās what his selfishness wanted.
As much as rumbling brought some benefits to his nation and friends, Eren still had a very selfish and immature feelings about the outer world. It wasnāt just a physical threat to their well-being, but a threat to his idea of freedom, and as any threatā¦The outer world was supposed to be gone. Even he says that it is in his nature to take away someoneās freedom if they threaten his:
Eren believes that everyone is free from the moment they are born, but yet ironically, he isnāt free in the sense that he defines freedom and free person. But even then, Eren knew he both has and doesnāt have a choice because what he is going to do both brings benefit and violence. Itās both a salvation and destruction that will be caused by his actions.
Eren knew that even if he didnāt know what exactly would stop him in the end (since itās the result of Mikasaās choice), he would still move forward with his desires and wishes because thatās what he wanted as irrational and selfish as it sounded.
Conclusion
What I wanted to say, the reason behind Erenās actions are complex and nuanced. But even then, Isayama showed us that every flashback and situation they had during led Eren to what he did in the end, be it for Eldians, his dear friends or himself.

Eren just has this inherent want to be the protector and one to take care of her š I think itās why he was always so frustrated when they were kids specifically about her taking care of him. The loser felt emasculated cuz he felt like he wasnāt able to do what he wanted which was to look out for her not the other way around š„ŗ he wants to be a figure she can depend on as well
Itās why I think he relishes in the slight broadening of his shoulders and the couple inches he gets on her during the 4 year time skip. He likes knowing that physically heās got a grip on her (externally bc she can still throw him around like itās no problem) I think he becomes more understanding of her want to care for him pretty early on as well but that doesnāt stop him from wanting to do the same :,)
yes !! I agree, he's defiantly always wanted to be and feel capable. I think a really big part of his character is being able to keep his loved ones out of harm's way. he very much is a martyr type if it means everyone else is safe.
and ouuu I do really like that idea of eren liking his body or physical strength a lot more as he gets older. like I could only imagine how confused he is that mikasa be walking around on almost the same level as Levi when she was still a teenager like him and the rest of the scouts. I also rlly do think that after he learns about the history of her bloodline, he feels more relieved as to that's one of the reasons he couldn't protect her as much as she could him.

Thinking of how eren is so attentive and extra when it comes to mikasa, mikasa humanityās second strongest soldier CANNOT CATCH COLD!!!
UNACCEPTABLE!! HE'S LIKE NO!! Ugh in modern verse he'd be such a germaphobe too cuz he's like I will be a doctor and I'm also extra paranoid about Mikasa, kid is running around spraying lysol everywhere. Makes her put hand sanitizer on every five seconds if they go somewhere, she just holds out her hands like a little kid and he spritzes her.
but in canon š„ŗ he just loves her, he doesn't even care that she's humanity's strangest thats just his Mikasa, so soft.

Yeah and well, she wasn't shown to be moving on in the first place in the extras, in fact rather the opposite, anyone with reading comprehension can understand. I think its kind of a hit in face for those who said she should just get another person to be with and acting as if it will make her forget all abt eren when canonically the opposite happened. U know, moving on isn't always necessary. This whole thing comes from when something affects u negatively, but i think in aot its clear that tho Mikasa would feel sad from erens loss, hes also the thing the inspires her to go on with life because she knows he wanted that for her. Like in the trost arc when she was abt to give up but its her thought of eren that made her go "NO, u have to live! For him" they are each others strength
I agree with everything u said Anon! A moment of silence for farmer-kunās assured lack of sex life bc how could he ever compare to Eren Yeager šŖ
