Sirius started awake with a grumble. He blinked and looked around at the flashes of light and blasts of sound coming from outside. He glanced at the enchanted clock that read 12:00 AM.
He sighed and shifted. Remus was fast asleep and heavy against him, snoring softly. "Moony," he said in Remus's ear. "Moony, it's New Year's."
"Hmmm," Remus hummed, not fully awake. At their age, they valued sleep over everything else. Their raucous New Year's parties were a thing of the past. But a midnight kiss to start off the year still held the same allure.
Sirius waved his hand at the curtains which drew back to expose the fireworks lighting up the sky over the ocean. He pulled Remus into a sitting position. "I'm awake," Remus murmured.
Grinning in the dim light, Sirius brushed Remus's messy, greying curls back and kissed him softly. "Here's to the new year, Moonshine."
Hey tai! Would you consider the prompt 'seashell' for "A Home By the Sea"? 👀 Only if it inspires you! Thanks either way ❤️
My darling love, @crazybutgood , today is your birthday and I wanted to, somehow, gift you with a lil bit of love. Your friendship has been a lovely constant in my life this year! Sharing ideas, stories and life anecdotes have been fun. Thank you so much for being such a wonderful friend and a talented bean! Today I send you all the love and all the best wishes for another turn around the sun ☀️ I hope you enjoy this lil micro-scene.
Seashell - for A Home by the Sea
You're lying face down on the big mandala towel, the different shades of purple contrasting with the dark volcanic sand and with your tanned skin. I watch the waves come and go, the hypnotic rhythm making my heartbeat slow down. The certainty of the sea calming me, wave by wave, while the sun sets on the horizon. I realise by the slow movement of your back that you're asleep and I smile to myself from under the sunshade, you're going to peal later. Harry, you never learn.
I smile, feeling so fond of you. Of your easy-going approach in life, of your messy salt and pepper hair and the grains of sand splattered on your skin. I move closer and take the seashells we collected earlier, while walking through the beach. I line them up over the path of your vertebrae, creating art with simple loved things: you, seashells, the orange sunset.
I take a picture of it. It's ridiculous, but somehow I don't want to forget the image of sun kissing your skin and seashells resting quietly on your back. I don't want to miss a thing, Harry.

getting emotional over footage of an amateur scuba diver interacting with a coelacanth. they are hunted by large deepwater predators, and here comes a large creature bearing the brightest lights it's ever seen, making strange noises, but it does not shy away. it hovers, calmly, as the diver reaches out and trails a hand down its back. im strongly against the anthropomorphizing of real life animals but the stupid emotional part of me loudly insists this is because it recognizes us, the alternating movements of its four paired limbs matching the diver's four paired limbs, & it is thinking, "hello, cousins, we missed you these 66 million years, it's so good to see you again. welcome back, welcome home."
