The kambal's masks

Something that wasn't detailed in the animated series was the history and nature of the kambal's masks. I wonder if Alex ever uses the masks to communicate with Crispin and Basilio during battles? It could be an aspect of why Team Trese is always in sync when fighting.

Alright, let's start again, shall we?

Last time I visited this blog, I was 22 years old. It's been 2 years now, and I think it's about time to reintroduce myself, hmm?

My name is Denisse, and I am a fan artist. For the last two years, here's my new interests:

• I discovered my interest in Greek Mythology. A bit overdue because most of my peers had this fascination in Greek Myth when we we're in high school, and I just shrugged it off like it was some nerdy sht. Turns out I'd be down to study it too in my mid-20s.

• Along with my interest in Greek Myth, I also fell in love with medias that are related to the myths, like Lore Olympus, Hooked on Chthonics, Gods' School: The Olympian Gods, and EPIC: The Musical. (Side note: I already lost interest in reading LO. It's been long overdue and the story is going nowhere.)

• Surprisingly, I also fell in love with anime, specifically Jujutsu Kaisen. I am DOWN BAD for Geto (not really) and Choso is my kin (how do you use that word? Kin? What I really mean is that I heavily relate to Choso).

• JoanFK? I've lost interest. CH S2 ruined them, and I have moved on from them.

• I also have gotten over my Trese and Disney interests since... The fandom is awfully quiet. I miss Trese though. I'm still interested to collect all 8 books since they already released the 8th volume.

I'll be posting some of my favorite works for the last two years here on a daily basis until we're all in sync with my IG page. And I hope you'll be there to support me.

Oh boy did I!

While I did watch a lot of new and old shows and things this year, I didn't exactly join a lot of the fandoms for them.

Though some that I did join were:

Trese

Lycoris Recoil

Do it Yourself!!

Over the Garden Wall

Legends of Runeterra (both gaming and Lore wise)

Bluey

Those are the most notable that I've either talked about or been vastly into. Trese was sad in that the fandom isn't as active as it used to be (and well, the creators have some drama and the anime's ending wasn't really... good). Lycoris Recoil and Do it Yourself!! have the same thing of being the Summer or Fall anime so they only have the season. While everything else has already preexisted and I only just started getting into them this year!

Been a blast since i left a some of fandoms too. These ones I've joined definitely have less toxic circles and are much more lighthearted and fun!

A really good anime I watched is Trese. It's a show set in the philipenes about a filipino girl hunting myths and creatures. It's so underrated plus I've never seen an anime set in the philipenes and centered around fililpino lore before so that's refreshing/interesting. You should check it out if you want more anime recs !

you talked about your favorite movies and was pleasantly surprised when you both prefer a certain flavor of shake

sam spends the remainder of his free times with you over the next few days in between the job (totally ignores deans knowing looks)

he tells you that he travels a lot for his job (since he's definitely not endangering you with the real information) but he still finds time to come and see you a couple times a month

sometimes you go and do fancy stuff, but a lot of your time is spend curled up on your couch with a nice movie or binging a show

Book Of The Week No.36 Alternative Alamat: Myths and Legends From the Philippines Edited by Paolo Chikiamco Actual Rate: 8.5/10 Favorite Line: "To exist, one must be born into pain." Actual Review: Alternative Alamat is a folk fiction originally published in 2014 and republished 2022 by Tuttle Pub, internationally. The book is comprised with compendium of 12 Filipino myths and lores that are retold for modern readers, all edited by Paolo Chikiamco. I really appreciate the variety of stories that are in this compilation because it really represents the roots of us, Filipinos and how are culture expounds about love, life, death, heroism, divinity and impermanence. Thanks to #PaengPH2022, I was able to have my mind collected and settled for reading. I was reading this on my room with heavy rain and winds on the outside. I believe that's the best way you could ever feel and read folklores. Some of the stories have weak points, that is in my personal opinion, best believe that this book is created to initiate the mainstreaming of Filipino culture/stories. My favorites are "The Last Full Show", "The Alipin's Tale" & "Keeper of my Sky". 1.) I was mystified by Alexandra Trese's passion(?) for decrypting Filipino folklorian mysteries. I am now planning to watch Trese on Netflix. 2.) I love how the imagination of the writers really used the key occurences in our history to tweak it into some spin-off conspiracy. Like whi would have thought that Lapu-lapu, Bernardo Carpio and Maria Makiling would meet. 3.) I love how this is written in a very sci-fi/fantasy way. The prose narrative really took me somewhere and a sad tale is what I have got. :(((( The thing about this book is that each of these 12 stories somewhat stood on their own. I never really wanted to stop reading it even though you can read a story and just get back when you wanted because I cannot stop to be mystified by the creativity of these Filipino... It was a long bus ride to Wolf Ridge, so I took advantage of the time by reading the third Trese book. As a side note, I am pre-ordering book 4 soon. ☆ TRESE 3: Mass Murders contained five stories and a lot of backstory about Trese and the Kambal. Much of the final plot line from the Netflix anime is also included. ☆ As with the previous graphic novels, there is a similar story line, but different enough that you are still interested in how things turn out. Momma-nanggal from Trese plus three manananggal OCs, and they're her adoptive daughters! I call them the Tres Marias/Three Marys. 🦇🦇🦇🦇 I've been catching up on the comics and I feel that the Netflix manananggal is based off of the Reyna Manananggal character in the comics. I hope we see more of her in season 2. Saw her with other manananggals in the comics, and I put my own twist on it.

From top to bottom, we have our Reyna Manananggal herself, followed by Maria Rowena AKA "Weng", Sabina Marie AKA "Sab", and Mary Elizabeth AKA "Izzie".

More childhood lore from Trese Lite: Postcard Book 1!

So, here’s another one of my fav postcards from the book. The card shows young Basilio receiving a cup of chichirya (chips/junk food) from a man named Mang TengTeng, with Crispin happily crossing the street towards them while holding two bottles.

From context, Mang TengTeng seems to be a mangangalakal. In Philippines, this is someone who picks up junk like bottles, newspaper, cartons, and scrap metal to sell to the junk shop.

Anyway, the postcard had this message written on its back:

Dear Papa,

Mang TengTeng came by today. He brought some chichirya for us. After the Kambal finished their merienda, they rummaged through the scrap metal in the kariton. By the time I finished eating, they had crafted three different types of weapons. It really is in their nature to be destructive and wage war! I still doubt you and lolo made the right decision.

What I found interesting here, besides how adorable the Kambal are, was how they were able to create weapons incredibly fast and just from scraps. I love the idea that even though most of the weapons they wield now were made by the Metalero, they actually have the ability to craft their own. I like to imagine that the Kambal has their own workshop where they create various kinds of deadly experimental weapons as a hobby. I hope that we get to see them use their own crafted weapons in the future! They can definitely fight with martial arts if stripped off of their weapons but it’d be funny to see them insist on crafting a make-shift gun from junk just because they find it more fun to fight with weapons.

There’s also young Alex still voicing out how much she distrusts the two war gremlins and hates that they’re now her adopted baby brothers lol.

y'all please go watch trese. it has a bad-ass sapphic* filipina heroine, himbos, hot magical creatures, a found family trope, a really good take on today's social issues like corruption and police brutality and did i mention the hot magical creatures- nah but overall, it's a really good show about filipino mythology, culture and lore, and if you're a huge sucker for these things like moi then this show's for you if you like those sort of things then this show is for you.

and it was just really nice to see my culture represented on-screen, it was really awesome to see the filipino lore and mythology i've been reading since i was a kid come to life.

*EDIT: i got an anon about this, about the whole "alex trese is sapphic thing". so i did more research and it's not confirmed by the author/creator. so i'm really sorry to anyone who might've gotten disappointed or confused. but if you do headcannon alex as sapphic then go on right ahead. (i too, also headcannon her as sapphic)
