Growing up, you always wanted to work in television production. And you always wanted to be a wrestler. So when you were deciding your future career goals (and figuring out you weren’t that athletic), you decided to combine the two and wanted to become a promoter or producer in a wrestling company. After just graduating from college and working the independent wrestling scene since you were 16 as a manager, you soon got calls to work backstage at different companies. Then at 22 years old, you were signed by All Elite Wrestling.
At the fastest-growing pro-wrestling promotion, your roles in the company include creative writer and creative producer. So basically, you help out with storylines and the gimmicks of wrestlers and personnel. Even though for the most part wrestlers create their promos and “scripts” by themselves, they still have to ask for the okay and help now and then. As you are the mentee of your boss, Tony Kahn, you are hit with tasks every day: getting coffee, talking to talent about their storylines, approving promo topics, running meetings about how storylines should go, and explaining to Eddie Kingston why he cannot stab Claudio.
You were a friendly face amongst the talent and other backstage hands as you were the delicate words to Tony’s rough actions. And then with you being one of the youngest members of AEW’s personnel, everyone saw you as their little sister; The Young Bucks, Kenny Omega, Ricky Starks, Renee Paquette, Dustin Rhodes; even Jon Moxley and Eddie Kingston adore you. As you walked into the arena for AEW Rampage, you were stopped by your best friend, Skye Blue (who helped you with the drink tray as you had held two bags).
“Girl, you look like an intern from New York,” Skye said giggling.
You sighed, “I might as well as be one. Tony has been moving at level 100 this past week. Ratings and pressure from the locker room have been getting to him lately.”
“What do you have to do today?”
“Umm, finalize matches on the card, talk to Max about his rap, create an outline for the creative meeting, listen to MJF rant for ten minutes again,” you were cut off by your cell phone alerting you about a text, you read your screen and continue to talk. “And talk Eddie out of murdering someone.”
Skye laughed, “Sounds like a full day. But I’m surprised to hear that your day doesn’t include one person.”
“Who?” You asked as Skye stopped in her tracks. “What?” She just raised her eyebrows and winked in response. Your eyes widened as you realized who she was talking about. “Shut up!” You started walking faster to the backstage table for producers.
Skye was talking about Darius Martin, one-half of the incredible tag team Top Flight. Ever since you arrived in AEW, you’ve been interested in Darius. He and his brother Dante were the first friends you made in AEW. They even invited you to join their friend group with Hook and Anthony Bowens. Darius was everything you wanted in a significant other: smart, kind, insanely funny, athletic, and most importantly reliable. He was there every time you needed something, it didn’t matter whether it was 3 PM or 3 AM, he was always there.
But somewhere down the line, you were convinced not to pursue a relationship with him. You didn’t wanna ruin the friendship that you had with him, especially when you couldn’t tell if he liked you back.
As you sat your stuff down at the production table, Skye sat the coffee cups down. “Why don’t you ask him out? It’s clear that you like him.”
“There are multiple reasons.”
“It better not be because of me and his brother.” She said raising an eyebrow, to which you gave a small smile. “Y/N!” Another reason why is that you knew Skye and Dante were exes (and you did not complicate their relationship). “Okay, you need to understand that what happened between with me and Dante was between us. I don’t care that you like his brother, it’s not like you’re breaking the girl code. Besides, you have to be a complete idiot if you think that Darius doesn’t like you.”
“I know that for a fact.” You said through your teeth.
A voice from behind you spoke up, “Know what for a fact?” And just from the honey and smoothness in their voice, you know for a fact that it was Darius right behind you. You turned around to his beautiful brown eyes gazing into yours. Honestly? You almost either jumped in his arms or melted right then and there.
“That Tony likes his coffee lukewarm.” You blurted out quickly.
Darius shrugged and said “Ew, lukewarm coffee, I knew he was a weird dude. Anyways, are you ready for the hangout tonight? We were thinking Dave and Busters, they don’t close until 1.”
“Yeah, but I might have a meeting afterward, so I might be late.”
“That’s okay, we’ll wait for you.”
“Really? For little old me?”
“Anything for my favorite girl,” Darius said with a smile. To you immediately looked down and started blushing (automatically feeling butterflies from the nickname). He gave you a quick hug (and what you could have sworn was a kiss on the crown of your head) and told Skye bye before leaving. Looking back up, you see Skye with a shit-eating grin. You quickly dismissed her and sat down, getting ready to tackle the day.
Hours later, you completed everything on your to-do list and found some downtime. You found yourself texting Darius with a wide-ass grin on your face.
Tumblr media
Just as you were about to respond, you were met with a booming voice, “What the fuck is this shit?” You looked up to see Sammy Guevara walking over to you with an angry face. He put his phone in your face with the phone reading Sammy Guevara vs Eddie Kingston.
Looking back up, you said, “What’s the problem?”
“Why am I wrestling Eddie? That literally makes no sense! Eddie has no business in the ring with me!” He said standing over you. You quickly got up to put distance between yourselves as people turned their heads to see what was going on.
You stuttered out, “Tony made the match and told me to confirm with the production crew.” It was true. Tony wrote the matches on tonight’s card and gave it to you. At first, you admit, it was strange and you questioned him; but he brushed you off as he was busy with other things (so you decided to let it be).
“No! No, Tony would never be this stupid! You are horrible at your job! I don’t know why he has a kid doing this job!” He got closer, yelling at you. You started to slightly hyperventilate as you don’t do well in high-pressure situations (and certainly not when someone is yelling two inches away from your face). Due to your anxiety, you hated confrontation and tried everything to avoid it; including taking responsibility and moving on. Your eyes started to water as he continued yelling, “Oh you’re gonna cry?!”
You quietly said, “I’m sorry”
“I bet you are! You better fix this or-“
“Or what Guevara?” Another voice spoke up. You turned to see an angry Darius marching up to Sammy with Dante, Hook, and Anthony not far behind him. As soon as he got in Sammy’s face, Darius pulled you behind him (essentially shielding you). He pushed Sammy which caused him to get back in Darius’ face, “You ain’t gonna do shit, you better back the hell up.”
“I-”
“You’re not gonna scream at her, she was just doing what-“
“No! She’s screwing up tonight! My-”
Darius raised his voice, cutting him off, “She was doing her job! Now either you accept your match or you take it up to Tony when he gets here. But you’re not gonna yell at her, not while I’m here.” Sammy glared at you before stomping away, curse words and all. Darius immediately turned to you and hugged you, softly caressing your hair. “Are you okay, sweetheart?” You shook your head as tears fell down your face and as your body was shaking due to your hyperventilation. He quickly ushered you to his locker room, where he sat you down and gave you a water bottle. You took various sips as he went through the 5-4-3-2-1 method with you. As you got down to the final step, your breathing slowed down and your tears dried. “Name 1 thing you taste.”
“The lint from your shirt mixing with this water.” You said, making him laugh. “Thank you for helping me and calming me down.”
“Don’t thank me, I’m supposed to do that. Truth be told, I want to fight him.” Darius said, rubbing your arm.
“Well, good thing you didn’t. But again I appreciate you so much.”
“Of course, I got your back. As a friend or something more.” He said, his voice drifting off.
Your eyes widened as your head turned toward him. “Darius, what?”
Darius slightly chuckled, “I really thought I was obvious. Y/N, I really want us to be more than friends. I don’t ever want you to feel disrespected, especially when I’m in your life.” He grabbed your hands. “You should never have to feel anxious, especially when I would do anything for you. I will always be right there for you.”
Your eyes sparkled and your heart thumped at the words. “I didn't think you liked me like how I like you. But, would you really do anything for me?” You asked.
He nodded his head, "Anything for my favorite girl." Your heart fluttered at the familiar nickname yet again.
“You promise?”
“Here’s my promise,” Darius said as he leaned in and gave you a long yet soft kiss. “Y/N, I will do anything and everything for you. I promise to make you the happiest woman on Earth and I promise to give you my all. If you accept me as your boyfriend.”
Giggling, you said, “Of course, I would love for you to be my boyfriend.” Darius kissed you again as knocking occurred at the door. In rolled, Hook, Dante, and Anthony checking up on you guys. While Darius was explaining your newfound relationship, you got a text.
Tumblr media
That night, you walked away from the arena happier and more relieved with your new boyfriend in tow.

Bad Bunny y el renacimiento REGGAETONERO (this is the remix yeah yeah yeah yeah)

Justin bieber despacito ft. luis fonsi & daddy yankee music video
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Even Igelsias’ chart-topper “ Bailamos,” which was total Anglo pop beyond its title.) And the songs were conceived for U.S. But it wasn’t actually much of a crossover moment-all of the hits were in English. Kicked off by a now-legendary megawatt performance by rising star Ricky Martin of his World Cup anthem “La Copa de la Vida” at the 1999 Grammys, the boomlet saw Martin, actress-turned-singer Jennifer Lopez, her future husband and legit salsa star Marc Anthony, Latin-music scion Enrique Iglesias, and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Carlos Santana all scoring massive U.S. Top 40 radio: the so-called Latin-pop boomlet of 1999, a fun, harmless, and fairly inauthentic bit of cultural hybridization.
Tumblr media
“Despacito” is also distinct from the last era in which Latin-derived music crossed over at U.S. But on the Spanish chorus, Bieber’s sweet, buttery vocals turn out to be ideal for Latin pop, as he harmonizes with Fonsi seamlessly. Indeed, the opening English verse is incongruous and slightly hokey. Whereas the Bieber vocal on “Despacito” was an afterthought and by all rights it should feel the least organic. What distinguishes Justin’s “Despacito” contribution from the pop-radio gold dust he’s scattered on hits by Major Lazer, DJ Snake, and the aforementioned DJ Khaled track over the last year is that Bieber was integral to the creation of those three prior singles all were conceived as showcases for him, notwithstanding Bieber’s official “featuring” credits. It dropped in late April and hurtled the song into the Hot 100’s top 10 instantly. Spellbound, Bieber-who had already milked the so-called “ tropical house” boomlet to his own ends and, like a modern rapper à la Drake or Kanye, has basically become a kind of coolhunter- curator these days-reached out to Fonsi’s people and offered to record the remix. Ci-to … ”), which is singalong-able by the end of your first listen. Honestly, who can blame him? The greatest asset of “Despacito” is the chorus’ irresistible descending melody (“Des. The song was in roughly its second month commanding Latin charts around the world when, as Fonsi tells it, Bieber heard the track while on tour in Bogotá, Colombia and was captivated by the tune. 1s, all amassed in a 20-month period dating back to “ What Do You Mean?” in September 2015. ( About a dozen other artists have succeeded themselves atop the Hot 100, but in all prior cases the second hit took at least a few weeks to replace the predecessor.) It’s an extraordinary hot streak for Bieber-“I’m the One” and “Despacito” are his fourth and fifth career No. By providing prominent vocals on both DJ Khaled’s “I’m the One” and this, the track that ejected it from the top spot, Bieber becomes the first singer in Billboard history to score new No. The Canadian Bieber, who has scarcely a scintilla of Latin heritage, sings and harmonizes in Spanish for the rest of the song, a first for him. In the remix, Bieber leads off with a quick English verse before turning over the mic to Fonsi, who sings mostly in Spanish, and Daddy Yankee, who raps no English lyrics at all (save a quick “ bang-bang”). That would be “ Despacito,” by Latin music veterans Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee, in a remix featuring the biggest male pop singer of the 2010s, Justin Bieber. 1 at all-the song on top right now, which is largely in Spanish. Out of all of the contenders, though, the one that’s likeliest to take the Summer Song title is the one that seemed most unlikely to be No.

Boris Diaz, Madera
Tumblr media

I have a couple of modern!Encanto music Hcs
Tumblr media
In a lot of modern encanto Hcs i notice that it’s a lot of English music, now I recognize most of the songs and enjoy it as much as very one else. But I liked to think of some artists/songs that sing/ are in Spanish or Spanglish that each family member would enjoy. Also if you guys can send me hcs like this I’d really enjoy it :)
Side note: These are my personal hcs, don’t have to agree with me about these
Alma
- she strikes me as the type of person to listen to old school cumbias and salsa
-Stuff like Joe Arroy, Carlos vives, Jimmy Bosch, La Sonora dinamita, Celia Cruz, Oscar D’leon, etc etc
-but I also think oldies like Ralfi pagan, Rene y Rene, Sunny Ozuna - those love songs reminder her of Pedro
Pepa
-the type of person that was influenced by romantic oldies ^ that alma listen too
- but listen to very cheesy stuff like “Te juro que te amo”, “Cariño”, “Sin tú amor”, etc
- she is very passionate as well; so fast paced stuff “La carta”, “Amores de mis amores”, “Para No te verte más”, “El chicho del apartamento 512”, etc she would listen to
Fèlix
- Anything thing that reminds him of his wife, so nearly all the stuff she likes
- but also has likes things with good beat or remind him of home
- “Guantanamera”, “Yay boy”, “Variedad y calidad”, “Brujería” (joking says that this song reminds him of Bruno)
- Has some of Alma’s taste
Julieta
- super chill kind of music
- “Tren Al sur”, Selena, “No soy de ti”, El chicano, Ralfi pagan, etc
- But when things get tough she listens to rock like “El matador” or maña
Agustín
- Loves stuff with keyboard and piano
- So stuff like Selena, Santana, “What’s going on?”, “De Música ligera”, etc
-“Vienticinco rosas” , “En Barranquilla me quedo”, “Escaldo”, and “Que bueno baila usted” have to be his favorite songs
Bruno
- ABSOLUTELY LOVES ROCK EN ESPAÑOL (From 60-90s)
- Had a teen rebellion
- Alma hated rock n roll bc of it
-Maña, La mosca, Hombres G, Duncan Dhu, Él chicano, Juanes, Los Fabulosos Cadillacs, Caifanes, Timbiriche etc
- Whole heartily can sing “Pachuco”, “De música ligera”, “Lobo hombre en parís”, “Fiesta panga”, and “devuélveme a mi chica”
- listens to those cheesy oldie love songs that pepa likes (“No soy de ti” and “Make it with you” are his favorites)
Isabel

I’d like to think they take turns listening and enjoy each other’s preferred music. Alma will even stand to listen to rap, rock, and pop for her family.

i really love your headcanons and i hope this hasn't been asked before but what abt the types of music or even specific artists u think the boys (or girls too!) would listen to? me personally i only have a few ideas but i always see bobby listening to 90s music... and i feel like gary might listen to a lot of rock
hi anon! thank you so much ❤️
now here’s the thing. i don’t know a lot of european music. barely know british artists that aren’t dead, with the exception of arctic monkeys. so if you guys know artists that sound like the ones i’m citing, fantastic, ‘cause i don’t know them  😬 😬 😬
you know, i think about the year they were born, and relevate that about their preferences. and you know, i’m there with you. i think i mentioned a couple of times about bobby and the 90′s hip hop/r&b. so much of that happening on his music collection. i headcanon a poster of tupac on his living room, in his original apartment. girls like lil kim and eve being the women he had crushes, before he had his punk phase and fell for girls like joan jett and lita ford, and was listening to sum 41. maybe even some old 1960′s reggae too. but i don’t see it happening as much as the others. it’s more of a family thing. in his favorite punk bands i included dead kennedys, blink 182, sum 41, bad religion, and i stand by it.
definitely loads of rock for gary, for sure! no doubt in my mind that’s his style and i think he’s still in the “i don’t like anything else” phase. for him, i headcanon arctic monkeys, hard rock like ‘black stone cherry’, ‘halestorm’ and others of that type. when i think about gary i think about hard rock bands from the late 90′s and early 2000′s like blink 182, goofy green day and sum 41. i wanna include 80′s horny rock. you know the ones! every guy flipping their hair to talk about an ass, a girl, sex, or all of them combined has a special place in his playlist. not the bands’ whole discography, but those specific songs, like ‘cherry pie’.
chelsea loves ariana grande. that’s just... there’s pink, high pitch, plumes, 90′s aesthetic, ‘thank u next’. i reckon chelsea goes for pop like ed sheeran, and pop girls like ari and... who else is pop? i’m not quite sure.
lottie might dress in black and be a sorceress, but i don’t think she digs nothing too dark. when i think about her, i see dorothy’s ‘wicked ones’ song. but that’s as heavy as she goes. maybe something like ‘the pretty reckless’, but i reckon that’s her limit. nothing like ariana grande i don’t think, but maybe unexpected pop for sure. lottie looks to me like the kind of girl that listens to “this year’s hits” and is alright about it.
noah is all about the 80′s rock and honestly? when i think about noah vibing to something, ‘ain’t no sunshine’ comes to mind. bill withers really did something with those lyrics, and i know ‘toto’ has a special place in noah’s heart, but that’s the energy i feel belongs to book boy. i’m not the most versed in this field, but ‘ben e. king’, b.b king, luther allison. all that jazz vibe but with lots of heartbreak. anything that sounds like the 80′s romantic rock is also in his playlist. ooh, and ‘queen’. no one changes my mind about noah vibing to queen and even goofing around about it.
kassam. on his story, a year ago, i wrote down metal, among other things. this boys gives me the vibe of lots of heavy music influencing his own. initially i said metallica, and i stand by that, but also, i would love to see kassam casually vibing to ‘papa roach’. and i have to include other dj’s, like nina kraviz, his crush, and others like ‘the chemical brothers’ and ‘daft punk’. older more experiencied dj’s, and some experimental new ones.
carl. a freaking wild card! carl can be the type that listens to heavy death metal or go for smooth jazz all day, every day. if i’m honest, i think he goes for heavy things. it seems he puts out his stress into getting deaf while listening to music, but i could be wrong. he really is a wild card. and if i have to guess something, i would say he’s ecletic. he’s not headbanging in concerts, but he’s listening to heavy stuff while working on something complicated, awkwardly mouthing the lyrics. and when he wants to chill, calm genres are his thing, like blues.
lucas. hard rock from any decade. he has mad respect for those bands from the 80′s but can enjoy a modern version that homages the older ones. highlights include ac/dc, led zepellin, mötley crüe, scorpions, kiss. his revolting times include linkin park (no one can convince me lucas wasn’t the type) and slipknot. he’s kinda over slipknot now, but had a hard time with chester’s death.
henrik. I HATE TO BE THAT PERSON, but he does like reggae. i would like to think he keeps it traditional and not ‘hm hm chaka hm hm chaka”. so bob marley, peter tosh, bunny waiter. henrik might vibe to almost everything that is fun or tranquil. he has a genre for every mood. he’s also a headbanger, DON’T AT ME. he must be. i want him to be! pop is part of the repertoire too. but you know, artists like beyonce and bruno mars.
priya. r&b mainly. lots of 90′s r&b and rap, girls that paved the way to new female rappers and the ones who paved the way back for newsies, like nicki minaj. priya has mad respect for her. and i would like to think she likes horny rap like thee stallion. digs cardi b, that’s canon, and playful ones like doja cat too. has the biggest crush on bruno mars and definitely likes cheeky guys because of him.
ibrahim. mainly horny r&b from late 90′s and early 2000′s. like every pony, usher, thong and more! i can see ibrahim dancing to a lot of the 90′s hip hop, like run dmc. if he digs dr. dre, busta and lil’ wayne i’ll be falling for him faster than he can say ‘beaver!’.
marisol. latin music. reggaeton before it was mainstream. old ballads like luis miguel, alejandro sanz and julio iglesias. she probably grew up in a house where her mother and aunties loved those men singing romantic songs to the crowd. she started dancing at an young age, so the ballroom songs from the time: 2003. ricky martin, christina aguilera. (don’t quote me on this, but i was doing ballroom dance and there was a lot of those weird remixes involving pop singers, and those were the main ones. don’t tell anyone about it tho).

Today’s compilation:
Bravo: The Hits 99 1999 Pop / Europop / House / Eurohouse / Hip Hop / Eurorap / Eurodance / R&B / Pop-Rock
Came into this German and Swiss Now That's What I Call Music!-equivalent both wanting and expecting a trip down late 90s pop memory lane and also a bunch of awful Europop tunes, and that's pretty much exactly what I got. There's a lot of good German music out there, but then there's also a lot of bad German music out there. And my god, is a lot of it really bad. But some of these bad ones you just have to appreciate for how bad, weird, and gaudy they actually are, like the dark and operatic piece of Eurodance by E Nomine called "Vater Unser" and what has to be the worst German rap song ever made, "Titelgschicht" by Subzonic. There needs to be a version of the Razzies for music or something so that these awful songs can be awarded the ugly flowers that they so deserve.
Going to divide these highlights between good and/or fun nostalgia hits, genuinely good songs that I didn't know before I heard this comp, and songs that are so bad that they need to be heard to be believed.
Highlights:
Good and/or fun nostalgia hits:
Backstreet Boys - "Larger Than Life" Ricky Martin - "Livin' la vida loca" Britney Spears - "...Baby One More Time" 2Pac - "Changes" LeAnn Rimes - "How Do I Live" Sixpence None the Richer - "Kiss Me" Blondie - "Maria" Wamdue Project - "King of My Castle" Mr. Oizo - "Flat Beat" Bloodhound Gang - "The Bad Touch"
Good songs that I didn't know beforehand:
Echt - "Du trägst keine Liebe in Dir" Cha Cha - "New Millenium (What Cha Wanna Do)" Modern Talking - "You Are Not Alone" Texas - "Summer Son"
Songs that are so bad that they need to be heard in order to be believed:
Ö la Palöma Boys - "Ö la Palöma" E Nomine - "Vater Unser" Mark 'Oh vs. John Davies - "The Sparrows and the Nightingales" Subzonic - "Titelgschicht"

Putting it Out There (A Biracial Child)
I’ve always wanted to address this, I just never knew where or how to. But, as I write, I see the influences come into play more and more (More so when I am writing my B.B fanfic and the Tourist), so I thought, now is a good time as any and this is the only account and platform I feel safe (maybe because I don’t have 200+ friends or followers here who know me outside of social media). I also feel as if this prospective of life isn’t given much attention or heard.
I, as some may know cause I had commented as such, am a biracial child. My father is a Caribbean Hispanic male and my mother of German and Italian descent.
This does not mean I have the best of both worlds. In fact, most of the times I feel alienated.
Born in the early 90′s, the song “Livin’ La Vida Loca” by Ricky Martin was every where. My mother would tell me that song was about me, now I was 5-6ish. I thought she referred to me liking cats, and trying to go out to perform a crap version of ‘Singing in the Rain’ along with the love for magic.
No, it wasn’t so innocent. It was straight up because of my skin tone. I looked like the girl the song was describing. I had no idea. Nor did I realize a silent war was raging in my family.
Growing up was...hard to say the least. It is even harder when you have racism on both sides pointing fingers at each other. On my mother’s side, my aunt and uncle wouldn’t allow me to visit unless it was a holiday to which there was pressure from the family. Out of spite, they would invite my much older siblings father over to cause a fight (The man did not celebrate christmas). Meanwhile my other aunt would tell me over and over again I was Italian. In the end, during these events I would end up alone and not know why.
Now lets turn to the other side of the family, my father’s. My first words had been Spanish. Yet, I lived with English speaking relatives... guess who stopped speaking Spanish for a long while. When visiting my family on his side, none of of my relatives would address me, only if they had to because my father was not around. These people knew how to speak English, very well even though they had moved from their native island. They just refused to speak to me. This sucked cause where it was 3 people on my mother’s side, it was 16 aunt’s and uncles on my fathers not counting the dozens of cousins I had. So, as the other family events, I ended up alone not knowing why.
The answer was rather simple but much to complicated for my child self. Both sides of my family was and still is completely racist. My white mother was near exiled for being with a man many would consider black (he considers himself Spanish and oddly doesn’t get the fascination on why his skin matters or makes me worry about him when he is stopped by cops...). I was the ‘mixed’ baby, a simple of her family’s shame.
My father’s side could not care what color my mother was, only that she was not Spanish. For those who don’t know, Spanish can be an array of color, its cool. But, she was no Spanish, did not speak Spanish and therefore my father was exiled by everyone but his own mother for many years (which is why we ended up in family events, my mama wanted to see her youngest grandchild by her baby boy). This meant being put at the back table, being openly mocked, and never told of big family events like babies or weddings.
This only lead to more fighting at home and in the end even my own siblings, alienated me. It was a pretty lonely experience.
This carried on to school and friendships. Elementary was not fun, but I felt the effects more in Jr. and High school. In elementary I was grouped with the other Spanish kids, because starting in late summer I had my Spanish tan on and therefore, I was not white to other white kids. But I did not speak Spanish. At one point I spoke gibberish to just to be able to hang with the Spanish kids at recess. It worked and I still don’t know how.
In Jr. ahhhh... at one point my family was making good money, which originally, it once took the income of five adults to keep us afloat, now it just took 2. My father and my grandpa (who I will talk about later). We moved to a ‘nicer’ neighborhood. In the early 2000′s that mean, a white neighborhood. Boy, did I stick out.
Now you might think “But you grew up in NYC, said you were from Brooklyn” well, here is a fun fact. Nothing is more segregated than NYC schools. The north did not do busing like the south did, so white schools stayed mostly white while schools in low income areas stayed mostly black or other minority races. I was a very tan child going into a white neighbor hood to a white school. Lets top it off that I played video games and Yu-Gi-Oh, HA!
I received hell. I had legit parents sneer at me, and girls asking me if I had sex because I was Spanish. A 12 year old, got hit on by 15 year olds because they thought my race made me easy. I was 12, all I wanted was to collect cards and play Pokemon on my stupid advance, I had no time for boys unless they were anime. But... someone (more than likely their parents) had set these ideas in their head on how Spanish people, more so girls, acted.
Then I realized, I really liked all things Gothic. A Spanish Goth.... it pains me to think about it. Everything from poser, to faker, and ‘trying to act white’ was laid on me. I could not wait for Jr. High to end. And when it did, a whole 180 happen.
I was no longer Spanish. I did not know why, just everyone referred to me as ‘the ONLY white girl’ in the school and that is not a joke. My school, was dubbed the worse in all of Brooklyn and shut down, which I believe it was dubbed that because of the 1% white population... I was the 1 after my second year when the other white kid (who was a boy people asked was my boyfriend) graduated. Now, in high school it wasn’t the kids who gave me hell. It was the teachers.
In fact, high school led me to meet others who were also feeling alienated. One of which I am very close to, a black man who is Jewish (adopted by a white couple) and gay. He did not where he belonged either. In the mid-00′s to be a black gay man living near the ghetto was dangerous. I can’t count how many times he had to hide who he was so he wouldn’t get shot. Nor could I count how many times my other friend coped with being a biracial black man who loved anime and being goth so much he was bullied for it when we weren’t together (who I ended up dating throughout high school).
Suddenly being labelled white get me an acceptance I was not expecting. I ended up being popular against my best efforts and people who I did not know knew me. At 15 I did not get what had changed, because no one had told me yet. No, I figured it out at 16, when I was placed in senior English because of my grades. My English teacher told me, I was white, in the worse why I could ever imagine.
My English teacher, a beautiful black woman who celebrated her African roots, gave an assignment one day. I was one out of five in a class of thirty who did it, because I did it in her class the day before. I played sports, so did half the other kids, I did not have time after school. This did not sit well with her, she was mad, which was an understatement. So, she turned to the class and said
“This is why our people end up in Jail or having babies to early. Because like black people don’t take education seriously.” Then called be out by name and continued “is why she will end up being successful, because white people know the importance of an education.”
First off, she was very racist towards EVERYONE, second I at 16, who was always called Spanish in school was now labelled white in front of everyone by an adult. I was both confused and terrified as my boyfriend who knew my family cared JACK SHIT about education looked ready to kill her. Luckily, he just walked out of class and waited for me as I was too studded to move.
I later asked him if he thought I was white, he admitted he did until he saw my father and called me biracial. For the first time in 16 years, I had been called biracial. Went home, did not tell anyone what happened, asked my mother if I was biracial and she said yes. To shorten this up, this was what life felt like,
At home, I had no race. Neither side welcomed me.
In school, I was told I was Spanish and had to fake my way in the Spanish group.
Jr High, I am now trying to distance myself from everyone as being Spanish makes me a target.
High School, I thought being Spanish would be a good thing. Now everyone is telling me I am white.
I had not idea who or what I was.
All I ever wanted was to be me. I wanted to understand why my family never got close to me, and I wanted friends who were friends because I was me.
It was like I was being ripped to pieces. I could be what others wanted or be no one at all. I had no idea what to do. If people at the new school found out I was Spanish, would I become a target again? I was allowed to freely play games, watch anime, and be my gothic self if I were white. But that also meant I could not hang out with my friends who lived in the Ghetto, shouldn’t like rap, R&B, and reggaetón or use the slang I grew up always using.
To be a Spanish person trying to be white
or
A white person trying to be black/another minority of color.
I had watched as the former got my friend (boyfriend at the time) kicked out of classrooms as he was compared to those involved in columbine shooting from teachers since he was different. Also the hell he received from other boys for cosplaying and playing anime based card games. At one point it was so rough he thought about dropping out and I begged him to stay along with his mother. I was so afraid of going through that again.
So I kept my mouth shut.
I took on the military standard of ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”. My father never came to the school because he worked so much so no one knew. Everyday, I just took what my English teacher said to be without any force back. When Obama was voted in, she told me I had no right to celebrate, that my people had JFK and that Obama was for all the minorities to celebrate. I fell into a dark hole of hating myself. My home life was awful and now school I had to pretend to be something I wasn’t comfortable with. I started ditching classes, got into more fights than I would care to admit, did some really shady stuff and began hurting myself.
The only joy I got was when I busted my ass grades wise and got out of school six months early. I did not have to go to school anymore and I could lock myself away to be no one but myself. It was lonely but I found company in books and my art. Through art I was allowed to be me and no one could take that away.
When I returned for Graduation I June, did I get the final laugh on that English bitch. My mother and father showed up, she asked if my father was a cab driver helping my mother as she had gone blind. I told her, rather happily, that was my father. She went from joy to sheer disgusts faster than you can blink. For years she kept talking about who ‘mix babies’ never got any where as their fathers were never around. Yet, despite me hardly showing up, I gradated top of my class, never had a baby nor was I ‘loose’ (In fact I feared sex as a teenager), and my mixed couple parents as she lovingly called it, were together.
She walked away from me and never said a word since.
But now school was over, college was starting. I still hadn’t figured out who I was. Was I white/Italian or Spanish. In college I learnt no one was going to tell me who I was anymore, nor did they care. At home, it was still a battle of the races. Finally, one of my cousins spoke up and declared I wasn’t Spanish as I knew nothing of the language. At home, my aunt and uncle decided I was Spanish and called me a ‘Spick’ as a joke. I did not take it as one and therefore I was called ‘uptight’.
My siblings also informed me, if I wanted free college to put down Spanish on everything unless it was the census. Then I should be white. Sometimes I still run into people who think I am one over the other. I had people come up to be speaking Spanish to be highly offended when I tell them I don’t speak the Language well. (I tried learning but it is hard when motivation is not there).
In recent years, I had someone at work tell me how they met a Spanish person, shockingly where my father works, and then described in detail my father and then tell me they thought he was illegal since he looked the type. All because they thought I was white... proud to say that person got fired for being racist.I did also inform them that was my father to their response was “you’re one of them”.
It never ends.
No, the reason why I haven’t been driven insane is because of my late grandpa. My grandpa was a man I adopted to be my grandfather. My biological grandfathers on both sides died long before I was born and the man I adopted was close to the family and acted like a father to my parents. He was a good man and the reason I had a childhood.
He once went through the same, Italian/Jewish, you wouldn’t think there would be a problem but when he was growing up that equaled Catholic/Jewish, to which he too was either pinned in the middle or rejected by both sides, this is the 1930′s-1940s. He gave me the best piece of advance ever.
To be myself.
That if I were myself, then it did not matter. The moment I stopped being who I am, that passing or faking would never tell me who my real friends were. That if he, could love me for who I was, a weird girl who liked boy things and drawing strange looking characters, then anyone else could. Being a stranger to myself would never bring happiness. So, after years of not listening to that, I finally decided to listen to my Grandpa.
I know who I am, I know the history of my families. They might not like that I am not what they want me to be, but they don’t have to live with me. I have to live with who I am. My friends are my friends because they know who I am, not who they think I should be.
So for all my biracial brothers, sisters and them’s, be yourself. Don’t try to force yourself into a mold, it isn’t worth it. None of it is worth it.
Look yourself in the mirror and say your name. Say it loud and let everyone know they can not define who you are, and so what if they say you don’t belong, guess what? You do if you want. You belong because YOU say so, because that blood runs in your veins as well as theirs. So you get to make that choice!
Make that choice of being you! Define yourself to YOUR standards.
Don’t let anyone take that away. I know I won’t.
Tumblr media
So here I see myself! A strange fox who changes coats with the seasons, that loves anime and video games, who plays Yu-Gi-Oh and listens to opera and Metal while can twerk and get low to Daddy Yankee! Who eats sushi and makes a mean chicken cutlet but can also make the best empanda with beans and rice with the rest of them!
And no one can take that from me.

My Transition To Metal
Let's talk about music!
I grew up listening to Oldies. I grew up on Enya, Cher, Céline Dion, Bryan Adams, UB40, even KISS which scared me. I didn't like clowns and KISS looked like evil clowns. Basically everything played in any lobby or elevator. Even classical. My grampa would blast classical music all the time. I got interested in playing along too.
I began playing instruments when I was about 6 or 7.
I played with a harmonica, a wooden native American recorder, the plastic recorder (which is very similar to clarinet), acoustic guitar, violin and piano. I excelled with all except for the acoustic guitar, native American recorder harmonica because no one could teach me. I stuck with clarinet (and variations of) for about 10 years. Did competitions too. I still have my b flat clarinet and I still play!
When we moved to Florida, my mom had this obsession with Spanish music like Ricky Martin, Selena, Gloria Estephan, Jennifer Lopes, Julio Iglesias, and Celia Cruz. I was so annoyed because I didn't understand what she was singing to. 🙄 Don't get me started on her fucking dance kick too. Oh God 🤦‍♀️ my mom also got obsessed with modern disco music. All the songs sounded the same to me. The same lines over and over on the same fucking beat. My mom also loved show tunes like Chicago Broadway musical oh and the "band"...Maroon 5. 🤮
I didn't get to enjoy the 90s grunge scene.
Didnt even get to enjoy classic hip hop either but I liked Boyz 2 Men, Brandy and Destiny's Child and TLC. I wasn't allowed to choose my music. I had to listen to radio Disney or ever the adult wanted to listen to which was okay but thats how I got suckered into Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Mandy Moore, 98 Degrees, To Get Her, Five, NSync, Backstreet Boys, etc...on top of everything else however I did love nickelback, matchbox 20, Missy Eliot, Eminem, and Mya too.
My first taste of rock I actually liked was Linkin Park's In The End.
I got into Eminem and a few rappers at the time like Andre 3000, Afroman and Jon Paul when I was in middle school. Oh and up until then l I was still obsessed with Backstreet Boys. I had a huge thing for Brian and Nick. I still know every song from their first 3 or 4 albums. Shut up, don't laugh at me! 😆
I was fascinated with the mix of rock and metal. I got interested in Kid Rock too. One day I was channel surfing the radio to look for music when I landed on Toxicity by System of a Down. My walls were covered with boy bands and anime characters.
My first long distance boyfriend was from NJ.
He would make fun of my love for BSB and it annoyed me. So I told him about the song (Toxicity) I heard, he introduced me to more of SOAD and the rest is history. I got into Korn, Nine Inch Nails, Guns And Roses, ACDC, White/Rob Zombie, Rammstien, Children of Bodom, the list can go for days.
My mom caught me listening to SOAD and I remember the look of confusion on her face. Just overnight, I took down all of my boyband stuff and literally swapped my BSB tapes for SOAD CDs! Lol 😆 I got my twin brother on the bandwagon too 🤣. Except he was way more into rap than I was.
My mom would say she didn't like my music.
Only because it sounded vulgar but I caught her laughing at the song Deer Dance by SOAD. Of course at the time, I didnt understand SOAD'S political lyrics. The songs were funny and entertaining even if it was foreign. When I learned more about the band in 2008ish I gained so much more respect for them and thier political views. Even though I wasn't at all polotical.
Now, I know every SOAD album and song and growing up SOAD AND LINKIN PARK had its place. Thats why I took it pretty hard to hear about Chester Bennington and I appreciate 🥰 Serj and Daron so much more while they are still alive. SOAD got me through so much. A friend and I literally sang to every album on a road trip to and FROM Tampa in 2010. Best road trip ever! I hope that Rick and I get to see them in concert now that we are on the west coast where they tend to have them.
😘💕 Hope yall have a great weekend!

🎶Música/Musique/音樂🎶
Tumblr media
A friend of mine went on Instagram a few weeks ago and asked her mutuals for international music suggestions.  Naturally, ya neighborhood Black linguist right here responded immediately... despite seeing the post at about 4am her time in Madrid 😭  After having given my friend the lengthy (... or not-so-lengthy) list of artists I listen to on the daily, I decided to make a post about this!  So without further ado, here is my list of artists I listen to, as well as some of my favorite songs by them!  Album titles are in parentheses after the song titles.  And feel free to click on any song title you’d like to listen to!
SPANISH 🇵🇷🇨🇱🇨🇺
Calle 13 🇵🇷
I first came across Calle 13 through Shakira’s song “Gordita” from her album Sale El Sol waaaaaay back in 2010, but it wouldn’t be until my senior year in college (2019) when I started listening to their stuff.  Now I listen to literally ALL of their songs, but some of my favorites are:
“Latinoamerica” Feat. Totó La Momposina, Maria Rita y Susana baca (Entre Los Que Quieran)
“Digo Lo Que Pienso” (Entre Los Que Quieran)
“Muerte en Hawaii” (Entre Los Que Quieran)
“Todo Se Mueve” Feat. Seun Keti (Entre Los Que Quieran)
“El Aguante” (MultiViral)
“Multi_Viral” Feat. Kamilya Jubran, Tom Morello y Julian Assange (MultiViral)
“Cuando los Pies Besan el Piso” (MultiViral)
“Los Idiotas” (MultiViral)
“Perseguido” Feat. Biga Ranx (MultiViral)
“Que Lloren” (Los De Atrás Vienen Conmigo)
“Gringo Latin Funk” (Los De Atrás Vienen Conmigo)
“La Perla” Feat. Rubén Blades y La Chilinga (Los De Atrás Vienen Conmigo)
“Fiesta de Locos” (Los De Atrás Vienen Conmigo)
Residente 🇵🇷
One half of the act Calle 13, Residente made his solo career debut in 2017 with his self-titled album, the album that actually reintroduced me to Calle 13 in 2019.  Residente also has several released singles here and there, some of which being products of collaborations with Bad Bunny and others.  Here are some of my favorites from him:
“Guerra” (Residente)
“Apocalíptico” (Residente)
“Dagombas en Tamale” (Residente)
“Somos Anormales” (Residente)
“El Futuro Es Nuestro” (Residente)
“Bellacoso” Feat. Bad Bunny (Bellacoso - Single)
“Cántalo” w/ Ricky Martin y Bad Bunny (Cántalo - Single)
“René” (René - Single)
Danay Suárez 🇨🇺
In my last semester at my college I took a class called Afro-Latin History, a class I wish I found out about much sooner than I did.  That class seriously had me questioning my choice in major... IN MY LAST SEMESTER!!!  Seriously, EASILY one of the best classes I’ve taken in my entire life, no exaggeration.  ANYWAY (getting of topic, my bad 😅), in one class we were discussing a book called Negro Soy Yo (= Black I Am)  in which the author (Marc D. Perry) relates how hip-hop and rap are used to explore Cuba’s racial structure alignment and how it shifts along with the state’s change from a revolutionary socialist state to one functioning under capitalism.  Being inspired from such an interesting read, I decided to look for more Afro-Cuban musicians to listen to.  Next thing I know, I have Danay Suárez playing in my ear.  My favorite songs from her are:
”Closer Now” Feat. The Idan Raichel Project (Palabras Manuales)
“Integridad” Feat. Stephen Marley (Palabras Manuales)
“Yo Aprendi” (Polvo De La Humanidad)
“Las Bala” Feat. El B. (Palabras Manuales)
Ana Tijoux 🇨🇱
It’s thanks to 2 of my college friends that I learned about Ana Tijoux.  This Chilean rapera (= rapper) came to Scripps – one of the Claremont colleges; I went to Pomona – to give a talk about how she uses her music to communicate her political views (trash talking capitalism... my kind of political view) and to promote social justice, to keep it short and sweet.  These are my favorites from Ana Tijoux:
“1977” (1977)
“Somos Sur” Feat. Shadia Mansour (Vengo)
“Vengo” (Vengo)
“Antipatriarca” (Vengo)
“Creo en Ti” Feat. Juanito Ayala (Vengo)
“Oulala” (1977)
“Cacerolazo” (Cacerolazo - Single)
“Antifa Dance” (Antifa Dance - Single)
Ibeyi 🇨🇺(🇫🇷)
Now discovering Ibeyi happened completely randomly... through a targeted Facebook video placed on my timeline.  It was their music video of the song “Me Voy” featuring Mala Rodriguez that appeared.  No long story here: I watched it, became intrigued, looked them up to find that they’re *AFRO-CUBAN (and French) artists, became more intrigued, searched for and listened to more of their music, and ultimately fell in love with their sound.  The way their voices are so in sync with each other is ethereal; together they sound celestial!  Some of my favorites from them are:
“Me Voy” Feat. Mala Rodriguez (Ash)
“I Carried This for Years” (Ash)
“Deathless” Feat. Kamasi Washington (Ash)
“River” (Ibeyi)
“Behind the Curtain” (Ibeyi)

Stromae 🇧🇪
I can’t exactly remember how I came across Stromae... I believe it was through a childhood friend of mine??  I know for a fact that she did mention him to me at some point before I started actually listening to his songs, but I’m not sure if it was via those conversations how I became motivated to give his music a try 🤔 Either way, I ended liking his music enough to listen to it constantly!  Here’s what kept me listening to Stromae:
“Papaoutai” (Racine Carrée)
OOOOOOOH I JUST REMEMBERED!!! 😃😃😃 It was through Pentatonix’s arrangement of his song “Papaoutai”!  I found myself loving their version and became curious of where they found this song to arrange.  Okay, back to the list:
“bâtard” (Racine Carrée)
“tous les mêmes” (Racine Carrée)
“carmen” (Racine Carrée)
“avf” (Racine Carrée)
“Dodo” (Cheese)
“Peace or Violence” (Cheese)
“Je Cours” (Cheese)

Flavia Coelho 🇧🇷
I can’t thank God (and app developers) enough for an app like Shazam; if it wasn’t for this magical app, I wouldn’t have found out about Flavia Coelho.  By pure circumstance, I heard her song “Na Favela” on the radio while taking an uber to somewhere while back in college (sometime during senior year) in Southern California (MAN do I miss being out there 😭).  Fast forward to right after graduation, where I find myself in New York City: I'm out here for my college’s glee club tour, for which we had evening performances and free time during the day.  One day, I decided to go running in Central Park, and part of my preparation for any run consists of finding the right music to run to.  Normally I go with fast-paced, up-beat, arrogant rap stuff, but decided that I wanted this run to be an easy-going, enjoyable one – a run in which I’m not trying to improve my pace.  “What better music to listen to than Flavia Coelho’s,” I think.  Plus, it gave me an excuse (and plenty of time) to listen to an artist I recently discovered at the time.  Thanks to the run, I found a few favorite songs by her:
“Na favela” (Sonho Real)
“Se ligue” (Sonho Real)
“Paraiso” (Sonho Real)
“Por Cima” (Mundo Meu)
“Quer Vadiar” (Sonho Real)
“Leidi” (Sonho Real)
“Pai de Santo” (Mundo Meu)
I couldn’t find a more aurally-polished version of the song on youtube, so apologies!
“O Dom” (Mundo Meu)
Sergio Mendes 🇧🇷
Ooooh the great Sergio Mendes.  To be completely honest, there’s not much I can say about him except that I know he’s one of Brazil’s greatest and world-renown musicians... and that I came across him through the Wii game Samba de Amigos.  I couldn’t tell y’all how bad I wanted that game when I was 11... GOOD LORDT, WHEN I was ELEVEN!?  GOODNESS, how time passes! 😱 ANYWAY, there was one song I always played on that game called “Magalenha”.  At the time I didn’t know it was a Sergio Mendes song – when I looked it up, the artist that kept coming up was someone named Bellini and Mendoça do Rio.  So what happens next?  Well of course I download the song (FOR FREE and illegally thanks to L*mew*re... rip) and conduct even further research on those two artists I first found.  All of this searching would ultimately lead me down a web hole that led me to Sergio Mendes.  I admittedly have not listened to enough of his stuff, but here are a few that I currently fancy:
“Fanfarra” Feat. Alceu Do Cavaco (Brasileiro)
“Magalenha” (Brasileiro)
“What is This?” (Brasileiro)
“Simbora” Feat. Carlinhos Brown (Magic)
“Samba de Roda” Feat. Aila Menezes & Gracinha Leporace (Magic)
“One Nation” Feat. Carlinhos Brown (Magic)
“Mas Que Nada” (Mas Que Nada)
Carlinhos Brown 🇧🇷
It’s thanks to Sergio that I came across Carlinhos Brown... now how exactly did I find out about Senhor (=Mr.) Brown through Senhor Mendes, I'm not sure; there were so many opportunities for this to have happened!  I mean, if you take a look at all of Sergio’s music, you’ll find LOADS of collaborations between him and Carlinhos Brown. Also, bruh, I thought I loved Sergio’s stuff when I stumbled upon it... sorry Sergio, but my love for you doesn’t hold a candle to my LOVE for Carlinhos Brown!  Here are some of my favorites that I still listen to (and futilely try to dance the samba to... can someone teach me please??) on a regular basis:
“Afroascendente” (Marabô)
I couldn’t this song on youtube, so if y’all are subscribed to any music streaming services, look it up on there.  Apologies!
“Vidacarnaval” (Marabô)
“Carlito Marron” (Carlinhos Brown E Carlito Marron)
“Fofoqueira” (Mixturada Brasileira)
“Mixturação” Feat. Ivete Sangalo (Mixturada Brasileira)
“Ói Pra Cá” Feat. Filhos de Gandhy (Ói Pra Cá - Single)
“Mulemba Xangóla” in collaboration w/ Bonga & Marisa Monte (Onda Sonora: Red Hot + Lisbon)
“Ô Vida” Feat. Nina de Freitas (Rio 2: Music From The Motion Picture)
“Sapo Cai” Feat. Mikael Mutti (Rio: Music From The Motion Picture)
Emicida 🇧🇷
Another Afro-descended artist doing his thing, Emicida is one of my favorite types of artists: a conscious rapper.  I know this by looking up translations of his songs... cause ya girl ain’t got NO understanding of Portuguese to be listening to songs and be like “oooh that was clever!” like she does with Calle 13... BUT I’’L GET THERE, THIS I SWEAR!!!  Emicida is still fairly new to me; I found his stuff thanks to Ibeyi (from the Spanish section above).  Regardless, I still have few songs from him I listen to often:
“Libre” Feat. Ibeyi (AmarElo)
“Principia” Feat. Pastor Henrique Vieira, Fabiana Cozza & Pastoras do Rosário (AmarElo)
“Eminência Parda” Feat. Jé Santiago, Papillon & Dona Onete (AmarElo)
“AmarElo (Sample: Sujeito de Sorte - Belchior)” Feat. Majur & Pablo Vittar (AmarElo)
“Hacia El Amor” Feat. Ibeyi (Hacia El Amor - Single)
Japanese 🇯🇵🇯🇵🇯🇵
OOP, what’s that I hear?  It’s ANIME TIME!!!  LOL jk... BUT to be fair, I say this because literally all of the Japanese songs that I listen to come from a bunch of anime series I’ve seen throughout the past 10 years.  So yeah, get ready to experience a bit of my weeb years, heh heh.  I’m gonna categorize the songs by anime series title instead of by artist name:

Annnnd DONE!  Congrats on making it through this SUPER long post!  Again, this is some of the music in other languages I listen to on a regular basis; you can click on any of the song titles to listen to them in their entirety if you’d like.  Also, if any of y’all have any recommendations on what I should listen to – especially if it’s in Mandarin or French, considering a Mandarin section is nonexistent and the French section is just sad compared to the others 😭 –please reach out!  I’d love to hear what you guys listen to, so let’s start up a little music exchange, yeah?  Cool.  Here’s to finally finishing this post that’s taken me EONS to complete!
乾杯 (gān bēi)! 🥂
