New helluva boss episode is out, any thoughts?

Season 1 Fizz: Robo Fizz was mean and called children ugly. Real Fizz called his guests “freaks”. Called Moxie an "ugly little bitch". Bragged about his fame and the money made off his robots and was even really pissed off his robot was destroyed at that theme park and wanted to sue

Season 2 Fizz: Extremely insecure, extremely nervous, hates the robots produced in his image, never bad mouths anyone and is really kind and nice to his competition, knows ASL and gives inspiration to children 

Who on earth is this guy???? You’re not Fizz??? By god, she’s done it again! Another male main character has been uwuified!! 😰When will it end???

Mammon: “You’ll be like the son I never had!” Fizz is elated at this, but Blitz’s dad already treated Fizz like the son he never had? Literally gave him a card saying he wished Fizz was his son. He was treated super well and was the most beloved within his circus. I mean, he did lose that, and him explaining everything he has is because of Mammon, and so I get it, he has an attachment to all this. I like that we are expanding on his character, but I feel like its overdone. The insecurity is a little too much. The panic attacks are a little too much. (Dude lost his arms and legs in a freak fire accident and its a creepy fan that he probably has to deal with on a daily basis that sets him off? I feel like he would be a tad bit mentally and physically stronger to deal with. I mean, he fricken talked back to STRIKER, a serial killer holding him for ransom locked in a cage last episode??? But he freezes up when an annoying fan criticizes him? Just feels inconsistent.) 

Mammon saying “If you’re a chick, give up on your dreams, because woman ain’t funny” and then Vivziepop’s name appearing in the corner… there’s so much to unpack there. I think Viv meant it as like “I’m a woman, so I can write that joke!” or “I’m a woman, who wrote this show and is therefore funny so Mammon is wrong and it's ironic!” But it's been established that Viv neglects and mistreats her female characters. They’re either all bitches or cardboard cut outs whose entire existences revolve around a male character. It’s low-key sexist. On top of the fact that, Viv may not actually be funny because most of the actually funny jokes in the show were written by Adam and Brandon, who are both men. So its VERY ironic, but not in the way she believes it to be. 

The irony of Mammon hiring an Imp who idolizes him only to exploit him and treat him like garbage… weren’t their exworkers of spindle horse that felt that way? 

Some people think that Fizz’s creepy fan is like.. Viv’s poke at her critics but I don’t see a comparison at all. This guy is a super super big fan that wants to work with Fizz, which isn’t what the Viv critics want. I’m pretty sure that’s the whole point- is that they want nothing to do with her? So I’m pretty sure this guy just represents a creepy fan, which everyone gets. Like a Syndrome character. 

Also in season 1, Blitz killed imps left and right for Stolas, but when that fan is actually getting close to Fizz and threatening his life, Blitz doesn’t kill him on site. He just hits him with a gun. Thank goodness he kills him later but Blitz has never really been discreet. It was just weird forced timing I guess. Season 1 Blitz would have never hesitated. He would have killed that guy on site.

Mammon and Fizz are pretty much just Valentino and Angel Dust , but no physical exploitation (other than his robo replicas)

The Glam and Glitz sisters are really cool I’m obsessed with their performance, but we go right back to Viv’s 2 types of women: bitches. They’re bitches to each other too. They’re sisters who have like amazing choreography and on stage chemistry, and yet they constantly fight, like… how do they even function

Ozzie and Fizzie getting a love song is cheesy you know, but…. Stolas X Blitz fans wish man… they WISH Oz x FIz is literally just the better Stolas x Blitz. Like this what the Stolitz fans want but its given to the side characters for some reason. Fizz’s end song was nice but All our main characters are just so flat Sad uwu special sweeties that have done nothing wrong... I'm just so sad to see them become former shadows of their badass selves. Our main characters were greedy, selfish, mean, sometimes creepy assholes. Now they're not. It was either an accident, they're hypocrites, or they were abused- and im like... this is Hell, can't we still have our main demon characters be assholes? I'm so curious what the explanation is gonna be for Blitz x Verosika. Is she gonna be framed as the bitch who ruined the relationship? Did Blitz "accidentally" steal her car and credit card because he was drunk? Like what else are we gonna strip away so he's "relatable"?

I like how fiery Ozz’s design gets Ozzie confessing he loves Fizz to an entire crowd so all of Hell knows and everyone is like “OMG I KNEW IT! GOOD FOR THEM!” Being with a low class demon was something to be ashamed of. A power imbalance. Something seen as taboo in Hell. Now we have 3 top sin embodiments dating the lowest of low class in Hell and not only do people not care negatively, they’re happy for them. There’s no stakes. Our main characters can do whatever they want “You’re gonna regret revealing that Ozz!” how who are you gonna tell? the romance police? fricken Now we have Mammon! Add him to the reoccurring villains I guess!!!! yeesh

All things considered, not a bad episode for season 2, but im kinda at the point where I don't think helluva boss is gonna deliver anything outside of abused main characters with cute relationships I don't think they're gonna do anything else

I can't take Luz antis seriously I'm sorry but i am starting to hate them for numerous reasons

First of all, why do you ?? Care so much about this random fictional teenage character and the fact that she is imperfect ?? Like yeah I won't deny the owl house can get bad with it's writing at times but why are you so obsessed with hating it. if you don't like it why are you just filling your mind with more hatred and toxicity why are you s toh fan if you hate everything about it

Second of all a bunch of their arguments are useless. I most oftentimes see them ALWAYS bringing you her introduction and how she brang snakes to school. And let me tell you, in kids cartoons - character introductions are very much often exaggerated !!! All the time !! Oftentimes, characters in their introductions are exaggerated so the audience, usually being children, can easily get a quick grasp of who this new character is. Luzs introduction is meant to show us that she's the weird kid, people don't really like her, she doesn't fit in, she likes to have fun in weird ways. Her bringing fireworks,spiders and snakes into school, I believe is not meant to be taken extremely seriously, I believe it's a form of exaggeration, because fictional characters in their introductions are, like I said, exaggerated so they're easier to read

And honestly it seems a bit pitiful to always bring up the same scene over and over again even though it leaves little to no impact on the rest of the show

Eri’s princess’ guard

That was kinda uncool, Mirio. Especially coming from a senpai. Just look at this pained, fake laugh.

Inappropriate introduction of Monoma from Mirio aside, I like Monoma’s interactions with Eri because we get to see more of his character beyond its flanderization. During the sports fest, Monoma was quickly established as being a very observant and intelligent person... and then those traits got banned to the backseat in favour of his obsessive rivalry with 1-A.

Personally, I'm not too bothered by that shtick: I read someone's interpretation about how Monoma's "hate" of class 1-A, is just his love for 1-B that comes out in the most annoying way - but it's a pity, that the majority of his appearances got boiled down to mainly that.

However, Monoma has also been shown to be quite sensitive and considerate of other people’s feelings: He elbowed Aizawa - a teacher who's well-known to be strict - when the latter phrased something in a very blunt manner, which might have made Eri sad. Just like the rest of UA’s students, Monoma’s a capable hero-in-training, and a good kid at heart. Being around Eri gives him opportunities for his dramatics to find a more positive outlet, and to show a gentlemanly side worthy of his design.

I found it very cute how Tokoyami’s eyes lit up, when Eri appeared at 1-A's Christmas party. Eri was greeted at the door by five people: Deku, Uraraka, Asui, Kirishima - all who were involved in the Shie Hassaikai raid - and Tokoyami.

I can see 1-A's resident emo-kid having a soft spot for children in general. But to me, his reaction here seemed more like he and Eri had met each other before.

Which makes me wonder about their first interactions: Eri is a very kind girl but she’s also a young child who was traumatized by thugs, who constantly wore plaque masks around her. On the other hand, the novels have shown Tokoyami to be a hit with another little girl, who got lost. Tokoyami talks and dresses like a plus ultra chunnibyou, but similar to Monoma, I can see his dramatic language being popular with young children. Tokoyami's also very kind and usually on the more patient side. I imagine he and Eri would've approached each other tentatively but became friends very quickly.

Ojiro, it's fine, really! Tokoyami will tell you that Eri's worthy of the sword's power.

To Eri, Deku and Mirio are her heroes and older brothers. But Monoma and Tokoyami are her fairytale prince and dark knight respectively.

...

And now I wonder about interactions between Monoma and Tokoyami. 1-A vs 1-B shtick aside, I feel like those two might get along with each other well.

I love it when supernatural powers come with a price. A real, painful price. The art is pretty nice. The main character is weird at first, but when you follow her through the story she starts to make more sense. Her revenge has been in the making for thirteen years. She can't give up.

Yeju was a sad little girl with too much responsibility. Her little brother Dokyung really adores her, but they were both children. Yeju didn't know how to take care of him. Their parents were always away saving the world. Then disaster strikes.

Yeju and Dokyung learn how to use their supernatural powers while their parents are away. They can both see writing on people. When the recite the writing people who are sick get better. They do it lots in secret, because they like helping people.

Yeju finds a cat with writing on it. She saves him and bandages him up. She's very stressed taking care of her brother alone. The kitty is her only comfort. She wants to live with Kitty and her brother forever.

Shaman Kwon notices how powerful the twins are, so he curses them. Kitty also dissappears. Yeju decides to stop helping people. She stops trusting people. Kwon curses her brother with a horrible fate. Dokyung is forced to spend half his life inside his sister's shadow...literally. He turns into a shadow spirit. That's...not a life. Dokyung attempts to end his life after several depressing years as a shadow.

Yeju must killed the powerful Shaman to save her brother from half a life. It's the only way to reverse such a strong spell.

Kitty was not a kitty. He is the heir to the tigar shapeshifter clan. His father was a peaceful man who wasn't interested in power, so he was assassinated. Heewu loved his father very much.

His mother did too, but she goes crazy after his death. She forces Heewu to train. She starves him when he refuses. Yeju found him after he ran away. I assume the Shaman cursed him and left him to die because of his potential power as well.

Yeju is his first love and savior. His mother steals him back, and he assumes that Yeju was killed because the Shaman came after him. He pretends to be a good tiger heir, but he only cares about getting revenge for his dead savior. The guilt eats him up.

They don't recognize each other, but Heewu thinks Yeju is pretty. This is the most annoying part of the series. They should have recognized each other right away. Heewu wants to steal her tiger bone sword to kill the Shaman. She only has it because she became the spirit guardian of the south. The previous guardian liked her, but nobody else does. She's too obsessed with revenge. The mountain servants that she was supposed to inherit abandoned her. So she's like a vigilante spirit warrior instead of a proper guardian.

Little brother doesn't like Heewu at first, which makes sense because Heewu is unhinged. There's some good fight scenes and still no clues about the Shaman.

Romance develops instead.

Heewu is a very submissive yandere. After he recognizes Yeju he slaughters a bunch of hell hounds for her. Nobody is supposed to know about Dokyung's condition, because it's a curse and stuff. Yeju decides to trust her beloved Kitty. Heewu kisses her ass for ten chapters and then we see hell.

Listen.

Yeju hates her powers. She took the position of guardian to get a sword to kill the Shaman. Her amazing cursed script removal powers come at a cost. If it's a powerful curse every symbol must be carved into her skin to dispel it.

Yeju tells Heewu to do it. He carves the curse in and in the process they save a child in desperate need.

It feels good to help people again, but Heewu has a little breakdown. Yeju is his only reason for living. They cuddle and Yeju says she loves him...not as a servant but romantically. She's says that without him she wouldn't have enough courage to save others.

They kiss and there's a season two that isn't fully translated yet. (FEB. 3. 2023)

Please tell me the misrepresentations you see in the ATLA/LOK fandoms (and how many are people being purposely obtuse about female characters)…

so it turns out i'm a liar bc i kept thinking I'd get to this eventually and then didn't but I'm doing it now!! I kept it to the main points that get me heated rn. all under the read more.

Violence!!!

mainly fandom thinks violence=murder? That because characters like Toph are down to fight that it means they're 100% chill with murder? or that Kysohi being okay with killing as a form of justice means she's simply violent and will always murder? And it pisses me off. Toph likes fighting - but she's never been shown to be okay with killing. she's more thoughtful than people give her credit for because all they see is that she likes fighting. Kyoshi tells Aang "justice will bring peace", which is NOT "you gotta kill your enemies", but just a simple statement - essentially she is telling Aang to bring justice, whatever that means to him and the world. It's important to note that while Kyoshi says she killed Chin and would have done anything to fight him, she doesn't actually kill him, he just refused to move. (She also didn't stop his conquest before that but that's a different issue.) Just because Kysohi is known as a fierce warrior and owns up to doing whatever it takes to bring justice, that apparently means she's overly violent and is down with murder. But even on her wiki page, while she's noted as being more willing to kill enemies than other avatars, notable accomplishments she achieved in her life didn't have anything to do with killing or violence, but rather trying to better the world and the Earth Kingdom systematically.

Other posts have summarized this issue better than I can and I can't find the one that really speaks to me but. basically the fandom is overly obsessed with violence. They get annoyed that Aang didn't kill Ozai. They get annoyed that Aang said "revenge isn't the answer" when Katara wanted to kill the man who killed her mother. They deliberately misinterpret characters into being more violent than they actually are and then misinterpret that too.

Lin/Tenzin/Pema

I think this is the issue that prompted my original post ngl because I was trying to go through the Pema tag and kept seeing hate. Which I hate.

I think this is really where the fan misinterpretation comes into play. Because it's generally accepted that Tenzin and Lin broke up because Lin couldn't have/didn't want children. This led fans to assume that Pema was a homewrecker and Tenzin simply decided to hook up with someone who did want to have kids. But this is such an uncharitable view on all of the characters involved and more importantly, none of it is canon!

While Pema's advice to Korra about confessing despite her love interest being in a relationship is admittedly not flattering to her, it's important to remember the context Pema had for her situation. As well as what Tenzin himself said about the situation, he says explicitly that Pema did not "steal" him. Tenzin says regarding himself and Lin that they were "growing apart" and "wanted different things". While this is vague and probably what prompted fans to assume it was a kid thing, honestly I doubt it. Tenzin and Lin, as we see in their adult selves, are very different people. I don't think they would have been able to make it work. Tenzin adores his family and values this connection deeply, even if he struggles with it. Lin, on the other hand, in both flashbacks and present day, overall values work over family. Which is not a bad thing, but is a definite clash between them. Especially since they're growing up and those issues would just fester if they stayed together.

While Pema confessing to Tenzin while he's in a relationship is a little questionable, honestly, Tenzin is not the kind of person to just break up with someone and date someone else simply because they confessed to him while things were rocky. And tbh there are worse things than confessing you like someone when you think they're not happy with the person they're dating. Like... destroying your ex's home and trying to throw their new s/o in jail, like Lin did. People forget about that part. Like that's just not cool and idk why people think it's okay.

So idk why people lean so hard into the "Pema is a homewrecker and Tenzin dumped Lin just so he could have kids and that's why Lin is miserable years later" headcanon. It just is so uncharitable to every character involved and doesn't have any text to support it.

Katara (and Katara & Zuko)

People misinterpret Katara every fucking day in one way or another and it drives me nuts. 1) She is not a crybaby or talks too much about her mom. The times she's cried has been in response to upsetting things and therefore definitely justified, and same thing for bringing up her mom - always in situations where it's relevant. 2) she is also not unnecessarily violent. she fights when she perceives a threat or needs to deal with assholes (ie those 2 guys from Toph's intro episode and Jet when they meet again), not whenever she wants to flex. 3) she's motherly, but she's not a mom. she's a teenager. she's not above mischief. 4) she's not an asshole! people who write hurt/comfort fics about Zuko after he joins the gang usually have Katara being unnecessarily mean to him just to amp up Zuko's pathetic-ness and it bothers me. She was warming up to him a little bit by the boiling rock episode! she swung back to anger in the next episode but like. it's not undeserved, and she's dealing with her mom issues and trauma. She's not an asshole for the sake of being an asshole.

related to this - Zuko and Katara are friends!!!! I keep seeing stuff about them being frenemies or Katara being friendly but still mean to him all the time and I'm sick of it!!! They made up by the end of the southern raiders episode. they were chill in the ember island players. they had clearly become friends by the final episodes like all of their interactions were clearly friendly. I legit think that the attitude towards zutara has gotten so negative that people swung too far in the opposite direction and can't interpret them as genuine friends because of it. even though they are!!!

Zuko's levels of pathetic-ness

Zuko's not as pathetic as people say he is. He's a disaster, yeah. He's awkward, sure. But he's not a pathetic mess like people tend to portray him. Like he is powering through every absolutely ridiculous situation that gets thrown his way like a boss - handling it badly? sure. not always saying the right thing? Absolutely. But he is powering through it surprisingly competently considering every situation he ends up in. He's not a mess on the floor about any of it, except for like, 3 times and that was the result of emotional turmoil and physical sickness. idk I saw this post where Zuko gets distracted by how hot the water tribe guys are and I was like No Shut Up You Don't Understand Him.

Like. is he the perfect whumpee? absolutely. but he is not a "crying on the floor" kinda whumpee. He is a "defiant to the end, still fighting back no matter what" kinda whumpee.

Grogu. 15.) Opinion of Anakin’s characterization (I.e the broification of Anakin Skywalker).

This is a very loaded question because I don’t really swing either way with this topic (as in I don’t love or hate it). Like on the one hand, I like how in the CW show they made Anakin more with it and mature when the situation calls for it which makes sense considering he has Ahsoka to consider and he has to be a good role model for her. I also appreciate how in the show Anakin isn’t just bitching about Obi-Wan or obsessing over Padme all the time or being pissy with his other Jedi colleagues. I love seeing Anakin actually being a model Jedi and actually showing that he truly does love and respect Obi-Wan, Ahsoka, etc. However Anakin is seen as more sensitive in the movies and doesn’t always respond with such rage all the time like he does in CW show. Like bro Anakin’s anger goes from 0-1,000 in seconds to the point where he’s just destroying gadgets, kicking Clovis ass, etc. So in short, in some ways I personally think they did a good job expanding on Anakin’s character in the CW however there is no denying there is a huge distinction between Matt Lanter Anakin and Hayden Anakin. They most likely went the bro route because toxic masculinity is in.

16.) Best written female character in Star Wars.

Leia hands down. Her character is one of the very few Star Wars characters that is consistent and true in every single project we see with her in it. And like I’ve never met a Leia hater in my whole life and if I did I would question that person’s character because Leia is a badass that holds everything together when no one else will or when people leave her. She honestly deserves her own show.

17.) What event is Anakin’s point of no return in his fall to the Dark Side?

Shmi’s death. Had that never happened Anakin probably would not have taken those visions of Padme dying in childbirth or Palpatine’s bullshit stories seriously. It was only because Anakin lost his mother that he was insistent on keeping his wife and children safe at all costs because he did not want to endure that kind of pain ever again.

In case people have forgotten, marriage vows are "till death do us part", not "for all eternity into the afterlife". If a woman, in life, can remarry after becoming a widow without being insulted, why does the ghost of Rose, a dead woman, who is no longer bound by the laws of marriage, take insults in the face ? Under the pretext of not being with her husband / father of her children in the afterlife ?

You have to stop the bullshit after a while. We literally know nothing about the guy.

Yes. Rose didn't tell her husband or anyone about Jack. But who tells you that she didn't at least let him know that she had a first love that ended badly ? Who even told you that the guy only had Rose in his life and that she was his first and only love for whom he dedicated his entire life ?

We don't know anything about this guy ! He too may have a great lost love ! We can imagine anything about him, quite simply because he has no importance for the story of the film ! (Aside from allowing Rose to actually have babies and watch them grow up, like Jack told her...)

If you're imagining a scenario where Mr. Calvert is all devoted to Rose and sad without her in the beyond making her some sort of asshole, you're the one with the problem. Because essentially, since we know nothing, we can imagine everything. And if you choose to imagine the worst… You have a serious problem with Rose's character.

Also, I hate those who sum up the Rose & Jack romance as something superficial that shouldn't mean much to her compared to the father of her children… You at least realize that without Jack's intervention in Rose's life, she would have had none of the hectic life she ultimately led ? Including the said father of her children ?! Some people tire me…

And it annoys me to see people say that we don't know if she stays with Jack in the afterlife or if she just went to greet him before finding her husband... But what ?! Oh yes, because we greeted everyone with a big, passionate kiss before going to quietly find our husband... Seriously, people stop obsessing over this non-existent guy ! Rose lived with her husband, while she did not have the opportunity to do so with Jack, symbolically her literal soul mate. Obviously she's actively going to spend eternity with Jack and not her ex-husband ?! I don't even understand why this is a real question ?!

Let's be realistic, if we assume that the afterlife and spirits exist, I guess we can all agree that Jack has seen everything Rose has done in her life, which makes sense, since she continued following their promise. But then, we can also assume that Rose's ex-husband learned the truth of the Titanic story by observing his former wife ? Who knows ? And who told you he wouldn't understand ? Wouldn't he be happy that she could find this lost love ? After all, they had their time and their life ! Again, I can't believe people care about this essentially anonymous guy.

What are the relationships between Cian and the other Hellcrew characters?

Oh oh oh! This is a great question to start with! I mainly just covered Cian's side of the relationships but I can elaborate more on things if specifically asked!

Killian Lynch

Complicated isn't a strong enough word and "eugh," is how I feel when I get into the nitty gritty of it. Cian is... extremely obsessive towards Killian. He idolizes Killian and holds him on a pedestal. Cian is obsessed with, to quote him, "living up to my father's legacy." Cian is obsessed with getting Killian's approval. Cian is obsessed with the idea of being incredibly close with Killian emotionally. He's obsessed with the idea of a version of his life where Killian was always there. Cian is obsessed with impressing Killian. Cian is obsessed with-- I think you get the idea.

Devlin is Cian's boyfriend, and Cian's Ultimate Favorite Person™ (Cian has BPD & NPD). Cian is beyond attached to Devlin, and has accidentally broken Devlin's hand on multiple occasions because he held it too tightly. Cian is very faithful to Devlin, he loves him and has since they first met in their 20s. Cian is 100% a malewife lol. Ultimately, Devlin and Cian have a very healthy and happy relationship. They don't really fight ever, though they do lightheartedly bicker a lot lol. Scarfaxia says that Devlin will try to pretend to be annoyed by Cian being so attached but Devlin actually loves it and would be upset if Cian wasn't.

Julius Doherty

Cian is about as close as one is able to get to Julius. They always have had a friend type of relationship, even though Cian was only 13 when he first met a then 23 year old Julius. Because Julius is emotionally stunted in a teenage mindset in many ways, he wound up forming a (genuinely) platonic friendship of sort with Cian off the bat. They're still incredibly close.

Octavian Doherty

Cian and Octavian have gotten to know each other over the years due to Octavian being Devlin's older brother. Octavian is protective of Devlin ("hurt me bwatha an' I'll fawkin kill yaw!") but Cian actually is appreciative of that, because Cian is also protective towards Devlin. They get along.

Sullivan Sweeney

Sullivan hates Cian because Cian reminds him so much of Killian, and Sullivan hates Killian.

Duvessa Doyle

Mother of one of Cian's (many) children. They got up to the bowchickawowow when Cian was still human, 19 at the time. He only was in her life to be involved with their child when the child was growing up. Now he acts like she doesn't exist.

I dislike pretty much all the sapphic ships in Mapleshade's Vengeance because they all require one or both of the characters to change core parts of their personalities. (I'm sapphic please don't come for me skjsjej)

FreckleReed: Frecklewish hates Appledusk and wanted to raise children to kill him. Reedshine is an Appledusk apologist and he died to save her. So either Reedshine realizes Appledusk is bad (unlikely) or Frecklewish gets over her issues with Appledusk, which is even more unlikely given that from her perspective he murdered her brother (I say from her perspective because the book states it was an accident). And we see how Frecklewish reacts to people associated with Appledusk. She attacks Mapleshade, clawing her face, and yells at his kits and calls for them to be exiled even though they don't have anything to do with him besides sharing blood. So, I don't think she would ever consider dating someone who chose to stay with him after he killed someone.

MapleFreckle: this one I think has potential as like a one-sided thing, like Frecklewish gains a crush on her while helping raise her kits. She would feel immense guilt for stealing her brother's "mate", and it would hurt even more when Mapleshade's betrayal is revealed. But it doesn't work on Mapleshade's end because she just- doesn't care about Freckle? She sees her as mildly annoying lol, and possibly an obstacle because of how Freckle wants to train Maple's kits to kill Apple. And Frecklewish hates Appledusk who Mapleshade is obsessed with, Maple would never get with her. Mapleshade really just doesn't care about a lot of her Clanmates lol. A good example is how she talks about Birchface; like his death was just an inconvenience. She doesn't feel sadness about it at all.

MapleReed: well um. Mapleshade tried to KILL Reedshine and her unborn babies so. Mapleshade sees Reedshine only as an obstacle between her and Appledusk's relationship, and only has vitriolic thoughts about her throughout the entire book lol. And Reedshine views her as the woman who ruined her poor husband's life and also, you know, killed him. They have such opposing positions that they would never work together.

I really don't care for ships where personalities have to be bent and changed to work. I just don't see the point. That's why I hate SquirrelAsh too, like if you make an AU where Ashfur's a good guy and the relationship is healthy he's just. Not Ashfur anymore! That's a whole different guy! Just ship her with Shrewpaw or something if you want her with a generic kind guy.

And if you ship any of these that's fine! Just because something doesn't work in canon doesn't mean you can't enjoy it :)

I have far too many stories to count lolZ but the most recent one was being called a bitch by said person and that was just so fucked I backed out of their hard. Someone calling someone a bitch is a major major red flag for me. As far as I know they don’t think that was even wrong or bad so definitely was a good call lolZ.

7. what character did you begin to hate not because of canon but because how how the fandom acts about them?

This is actually really hard because for pretty much all of the characters I hated them because of their in show actions and the fndm and how they treated the character made it worse vs being the reason I hated them. The closest I have to the fndm making me hate a character is probably Robyn. I disliked her quiet a bit when I first saw her but it wasn’t like I twitch every time I hear her name the fndm most definitely did that with how much they insisted she was actually “the only one helping Mantle” and how she “knew Ironwood was bad” and how they made her out to be some epic hero fighting for the people when in reality she’s just a whiny selfish brat.

She massively escalated her attacks because she won what she thought was a fair election. She specifically targeted a government project that she had no clue what it was for rather then the rich billionaire who was the actual person causing a mass majority of the problems she had currently. Jacques was the one who laid off hundreds if not thousands of people because he was no longer making billions of dollars. He’s the one who has “controversial labor practices” not James. He’s the one who decided to work with a terrorist out of greed. Jacques is the one who squeezed Mantel until it broke NOT JAMES. He was trying to restore global communication he gave Mantel protection and did things like assign a hunter to watch school children that really did not need it but gave the parents comfort. He did what he could to help but Robyn threw a fit like a child when she was told no she didn’t need to know this classified information. She is not a hero and an insult to every other Robyn Hood out their.

10. worst part of fanon

The rewriting of literally everything James did ever to try and make him secretly evil the entire time. Him giving Yang a free prosthetic? He was just trying to manipulate her so she would owe him. Standing up for Weiss? More manipulation. Him telling the council in Vale the truth about how the Grimm got into the city and why? It’s him trying to hostilely take over Vale and overthrow Ozpin.

He is not allowed to do anything good or even morally gray anymore according to the fndm it’s just all evil and it’s so exhausting. James was not a monster. Every action he took wasn’t him being shady and evil. He is a man living in a world that is stuck in a terrible predicament forcing him and others to make morally gray choices in the name of survival. It’s not evil. The fndms refusal to look at anything with even a slight morally complexity is just so damn tiring. Characters are allowed to make gray or even bad decisions and not be pure evil. They’re allowed to make mistakes and disagree and not be absolutely perfect. And I do not understand the fndms refusal to see this besides their obsession with CR/WBY to an unhealthy degree.

Okay, you specified FMA or LotR, but I'm gonna do both because I can and because no one else is sending asks in.

The character everyone gets wrong

FMA - I think Hawkeye may be the one most likely for people to get wrong. If I had a nickel for every time I started reading a fanfic where Hawkeye is a trigger-happy lunatic that everyone in the office lives in fear of, and/or is a strict taskmaster who is perpetually annoyed with everyone, I'd be rich. She's a very complex and layered character, but so many people don't seem willing to look any deeper than the surface of a sequence that was played for laughs, and they make that her entire personality. Never mind all the examples we have of her being gentle, being someone children feel safe enough around to share their hopes and fears, getting emotional, relaxing and joking with friends, teetering on the razor's edge of suicide.... There are so many sides to her, and it's difficult to get her right, but it's also astonishing to me just how badly some people characterize her.

LotR - There are a few contenders, but...maybe Merry? Most of the blame can be laid to the movies, I think, but a lot of people seem to take him as "the more boring but less stupid Pippin." That does him such a disservice, because when you really pay attention to him (especially in the book), there's so much more going on than being part of a comic relief duo who eventually manages to kill a Nazgul. In actuality, he's debatably the most capable all-around of the four main hobbits, and he deserves much more recognition than he gets.

7. What character did you begin to hate not because of canon but because of how the fandom acts around them?

FMA - Hmm...you know, I'm not sure I hate any of the characters, really. Even the villains are at least interesting and well-developed, so I don't mind them as far as that goes. They serve the purpose they were made for. The character I come the closest to hating would probably be Kimbley, but that's entirely for what an awful person he is in canon. I will say I find certain prevalent descriptions of characters to be annoying because everyone uses them and they stopped being amusing twenty years ago. Like saying that Envy's hair makes him look like a palm tree. I've never liked that. But Envy is actually my favorite Homunculus in the manga/Brotherhood version, so....

LotR - The Show That Shall Not Be Named is almost enough to make me dislike Galadriel. Almost. Not quite. (And I haven't even watched said show!) Faux-Galadriel is a hateful abomination that I want to kick off a cliff, and any time a fan tries to defend her, I hate her that little bit more. Real Galadriel is super cool, though. I'm hoping that my current re-read of The Silmarillion and LotR will cement the real Galadriel in my mind again. This is what happens when you butcher a character and flaunt it like you're better than the person who created the character in the first place.

13. Worst blorbofication

FMA - I'm not entirely sure I understand the term "blorbofication," but I must confess I've never understood the obsession with Greed in the fandom. Like...yeah, it's a pretty cool concept for a villain and an interesting departure from the rest of the Homunculi because he's a rebel. But I don't personally find him that likeable; he creeps me out as much as the other Homunculi, and he's more unpredictable too because he's got his own agenda going on. I appreciate his help in the fight against Father, but I don't understand why he gets so much focus by certain circles of the fandom.

LotR - This is actually really hard, because all of the characters are so good, it's like...yeah, of course that's someone's blorbo. But if I have to pick one, I think I'm actually going to go with Legolas. Not because he's a bad or uninteresting character - by no means! But I think - partly because of the way he was handled in the movies, where he's little more than a pretty face who's good at shooting things - when fans latch onto Legolas as their blorbo, they forget a lot of details that make him so much more than that. Like how sassy he is. Or how just kind of...weird he can be, as an Elf in a party of beings who are much more down-to-earth.

14. The one thing you see in fics all the time

FMA - Ohhhh, there are so many dumb things to pick from ʘ‿ʘ I mean, there are good things (or at least things with the potential to be good) that crop up a lot too, like turning a character (usually Ed or Mustang) into a chimera and the rest of the characters having to deal with it. Or there are the things you see in fics from most fandoms, like self-inserts and "my super special OC tags along with the protagonists for some reason and basically nothing changes in the plot except that the protagonist falls in love with them." But one that's more specific to FMA is the fic where Ed randomly starts singing (sometimes with the accompaniment of a piano or maybe a guitar), even though there isn't the slightest indication in canon that he has any musical ability or interest whatsoever. It's usually very emo and angsty, and almost always features a Vic Mignogna song.

LotR - Confession time: I hardly ever read LotR fics. Mostly that's because no one can write as well as Tolkien, and whether the writer attempts to or not, it's often quite jarring when you compare it to the books. (I say this as someone who is currently attempting to write an LotR fic with the full knowledge that I will never reach that pinnacle of excellence. Generally, stories centered around hobbits don't stick out to me as much as ones about, say, Elves.) Anyway, I don't think I have enough data to really point to any trends. But one thing I'm pretty confident I can say, even without having read that many fics: Too many fics are focused on shipping.

Hi, first of all I like your blog, one of the reasons being the fact that you are one of the few pro green bloggers who likes Helaemond. I just wanted to say it is crazy how some people who are team green (many of them tbh) are hating the ship and harass the people who like it. I've seen this on both Tumblr and Reddit (Twitter is probably even worse, but I'm trying to avoid it). People get downvoted to oblivion because they like the ship or are aggressively insulted on other SM. And the arguments are always the same: it would make the greens look like hypocrites (like the show haven't already done that and that is literally one of the main themes in ASOIAF), incest is wrong (and some of those who supposedly hate Helaemond ship Helaegon) or, the worst reason of all - it's not canon. "Ship him with his wife! " Maybe I don't want it or simply don't like his "wife". Anyway, do you think there is any possibility they make Helaemond canon in the show? I would like it, but I really doubt it will happen. And with all the hate the green fanbase is showing toward the idea... But if somehow does, how do you think it will be depicted? According to the newest leaks, B&C probably will happen in episode 2, so there won't be much time.

yeah. i get why greens are annoyed by helaemond but i honestly think many were entirely too aggressive towards the shippers of this ship, like trying to push helaemonds out of any corner of the fandom. it's sad, but i've grown accustomed to it.

Anyway, do you think there is any possibility they make Helaemond canon in the show? I would like it, but I really doubt it will happen. And with all the hate the green fanbase is showing toward the idea...

i think so yes. i think they will further pursue helaemond in s2. idk in what capacity, idk even if this will happen for sure, bc i try not to claim i know for sure what will happen (that's how you die by hubris)

i think maybe we'll get one moment with them before b&c and then b&c will happen and the focus will be helaena's grief and aemond's rage and guilt, his change in character from just a dude who commited vehicular manslaughter to i will rain fire and blood on our enemies and ofc obsession to kill daemon.

i also think it's possible that the helaemond relationship grows colder because of lucerys' death and it worsens after b&c. but again, idk what will happen, i just feel like they will pursue it further.

i do hope that regardless of helaemond, helaena gets one or two scenes before b&c where she actually interacts with characters, maybe even her own children, or just... is involved in the dialogue and the plot in a way that isn't just being a prophecy mouthpiece. i hate that b&c is so soon and we get so little of her before it.

Where do I even begin??

As you all probably know by now, I got into the ppg fandom when I stumbled across the reds fanart on deviantart in middle school lmaooo, and I was into it all well enough. I read like all the fanfics. I was there when sbj was regularly updating MTH. Back then I didn't like the greens 😮 but only because they didn't really have a lot of content. I just saw them as a background pairing. Just like bubbles and boomer, didn't hate them, didn't love them, which was funny because Buttercup was/is my fave. Because I interacted mainly with the red content, ig I never gave them much thought

Then, like most people, I came back to the fandom years later just for kicks and giggles and opened up MTH. I read it and was like "eh, why did I like the reds so much?? They're fucking annoying. The other pairings are so much more interesting." So, I clicked on some of sbj's other stuff and read a green one about sword fighting, which, side-note, with how obsessed I was with it, I should have known then I was a lil gay, and then, I think I read a future fic by sbj where all their children's names were Bruce and fell in love.

idk what it is about them, but there was something there that I found so much more interesting than I ever found reading the reds. It's a pairing you can do so much with because Buttercup is a versatile character. It makes sense if you make Buttercup an aggressive punk, but it can also make sense if you pull back and make her shy. She's got layers. And so does Butch from the little we see in canon. He's a hyperactive goofball, but sometimes he's the worst guy you know lol, and depending on how you chose to write them they mix well.

I have an affection for tough guy softies who are loyal to a fault, and I think if they're written correctly each of the greens can easily fall into that category. And when you combine them together, it's like a mushy mess of pining that I also thrive on.

I think they can be the epitome of "I'm angry all the time, but I'm less angry around you," which makes my heart melt. I don't think they'd be that couple that tries fixing each other, but accept each other as is, and grow. (i like the blues for the exact opposite reason lol) Tough kids deserve soft love too 😭

I also love it when they're just enemies. I've read some great fics that have them at each other's throats that I think they play well as enemy counterparts. Buttercup's mannerisms are restrained by her need to do good, but Butch doesn't have that, so it's a great society v. chaos pair up. And seeing Butch "taint" Buttercup is always fun because she's one of those characters where I go back and forth answering "would she go to the dark side??"

Gold Scribbles does this so well (and she makes it romantic too), I'll link the fic below. There is also another fic that I've been searching for again for years that I felt nailed it for me, but I haven't been able to find it. And trust me I look for it like every other month. The premise of Buttercup's character arc though was choosing between good and bad as she's fighting Butch, which sure, is a superhero cliche, but the way she chooses the side she chooses left me sitting there opened mouth, like "wow." Butch was her literary fallacy.

I'm talking this fic up, but it's been so long that maybe my mind's just made it bigger than it was lol, but still, it was amazing to me.

Finally, I think that Buttercup is such a gender, and sometimes I feel I use Butch and Buttercup to explore breaking the traditional views of feminity. I know that sounds super weird, but sometimes when I feel I'm making Buttercup too feminine, I think "okay but what would Butch do?" and then I make Buttercup do that. It probably doesn't across well in my fics, but it's something I catch myself doing. It's like in my head, I make Butch and Buttercup the same person just split in two, and then I make them kiss lol

Darlin and Sam hcs cause im down bad for BOTH of them

very fluffy because i made two angst fics and im sad

darlin

i want more angst for darlin so…

darlin is poc, their mum is from a diffeent country and would make meals and desserts originating from her country and always made sure darlin ate well even though she wasn’t always around due to work.

ever since quinn’s incident, they’ve been really detached from their mother and her side of the family.

they don’t feel like they belong, even with their mother’s side of the family. they hardly understand their mother’s native language and barely knows the customs. and it always hurt them that they don’t understand that well.

they had to deal with not belonging with the pack and not belonging with their mother’s side.

has a few friends in washington who knows they’re a werewolf. made them dress up as one for halloween

is extremely protective of them and will do anything for them, hence why they were so easily convinced to dress up as a werewolf

some of them have smaller siblings. darlin is known as the strong looking friend who looks like they could kill someone but instantly goes soft when around the younger children

gives them piggybacks, lets them put things in their hair, smiles so gently when they play with the children.

doesn’t talk a lot. not at all.

looks really intimidating when in reality, their vision isn’t really good so they squint at everything to see things better.

it doesn’t help that darlin is used to being ignored and being ‘invisible’ so they just watch people from afar instead of talking to them.

if darlin keeps on staring at you, they either want to talk to you or punch you. no inbetweens.

darlin says hi to angel for the first time to be polite and angel asks david if they did something wrong cause darlin kept on glaring at them. david nearly laughed.

their entire apartment may look like a pig’s sty, but their bedroom is kept really neat. its their safe haven.

has a pile of plushies they kept over the years. pretended they despise cute shit like that when in reality it makes their heart go aww.

has a weird obsession with venom from marvel.

sleeps on their back at first, ends up half on the bed and half on the floor with the blankets everywhere.

sleep talks. and for some sad reason they are always begging for whoever’s in that dream that night to stop what they’re doing and come back to safety. they never remember what they’re dreaming about unless it’s a nightmare.

also got into tokyo ghoul. juuzou looked cool so they tried it out.

sits outside on the porch sometimes with darlin and just plays the guitar

hits his nails on things to a beat when he’s bored and someplace with a table.

can sleep standing up.

texts with his fingers and not his thumbs. like with his middle fingers like old parents do.

drinks ungodly amounts of tea. if he wasn’t dead his blood would be 95% tea and 5% real blood

really loud breather. but its comforting instead of annoying, cause sam is so quiet so sometimes you just think he left but no…he’s there…just being quiet.

has longish hair that’s tied into a ponytail, but a lot of his hair still gets loose so he usually rakes a hand in it so it doesn’t get annoying.

hates his hair being touched but lets darlin play with it if they want to. if anyone notices sam tells them to shut it.

when he belts out in laughter (if he ever does) its not a HAHAHA its a HEHEHE and its the cutest thing ever.

wheezes when he laughs too.

sam is the only one in dahlia (how the fuck do you spell it HELP) who noticed darlin’s weakness for cuteness.

absolutely capitalises on it. buys them teddy bears, cute stickers, cute pins, figurines (you cannot tell me darlin doesn’t like cute anime shit or cartoons) basically anything thats cute. just so he can see darlin’s eyes go wide eyed and dilate at what they see. its adorable and sam loves it.

when sam plays his guitar, darlin stops everything to listen to him play. because its rare that he brings it out since it’s something he always played with when he was human, and playing it brings back bittersweet memories.

darlin isn’t good with words, so when darlin is able to feel more vunerable to sam, they start to gently take sam’s hands and kiss each finger. its a way for them to non-verbally say thank you to him for healing them constantly.

the actions make sam really emotional. its such a sweet moment, and it often leads to a lot of cuddling.

they have a movie night every single saturday and take turns choosing what to watch. sam always picks out horror movies while darlin picks out children movies they never got to watch as a child.

one time darlin put on twilight. both of them laughed out loud at the movie.

watched encanto and darlin related a lot to bruno. sam didn’t really relate to everyone, but loved the casita the most. both hated abuela.

“you’re julieta cause you can heal and you probably act like that to fredrick and bright eyes,” that earned a small smack on the arm.

darlin’s habit of staring carries to sam as well. as soon as he comes into their vision, their gaze softens and they visibly loosen up. sam is the only person that seems to be able to do that.

in private darlin totally goes up right in his face and stares at him like an owl.

sam was never really a good cooker, but when he realised how bad darlin was at taking care of themselves, he taught himself how to cook so that darlin would have at least one good meal a day.

one day darlin confessed that they miss their mother’s cooking, and then instantly changed the subject of the conversation entirely.

you bet your sweet ass sam looked up how to make all the different food that’s from their mum’s country, and tried really hard to replicate it.

darlin totally cried and said thank you.

sam tries to convince darlin to reconnect with their mum now that they’re back in dahlia and darlin hesitantly agrees.

darlin feels bad about him always looking after them, so they actively try and look after themselves better. instead of rushing into fights, they carefully articulate themselves so they dont get too hurt. and they buy small snacks so they’re not always running on an empty stomach.

darlin runs like a heater, but still wears a thick ass coat whenever they go anywhere. when its too cold for sam he just crawls into their coat and darlin wraps him up.

cuddles for hours like that. darlin is just so damn warm.

sam scritches darlin behind the ear and it makes them full on sleep.
