Ik i said this would be posted ~yesterday but last night i had an emotional breakdown lol a/n: god I’m the worst. I freaking love the whole red string soulmate au and idk why this took me so long to finish. Oh Red String of Fate

Soulmates were a very tricky thing. Once someone thought they had discovered all there was to this phenomenon, a new wonderful flourish of mystery appeared. For instance, it was previously thought that once you met your soulmate, the red string tied around your ring finger would turn a different color.

Apparently, in your case, you were special. The universe decided to share your soulmate with you at the worst possible moment. Because it was nice like that.

Agatha Harkness could only be described as a pain in your ass. You had met the witch during a particularly tough battle and while you were sweating buckets trying to defeat the monster attacking New York (why was it always New York?), Agatha sat off to the side in a lawn chair, on the sidewalk, pointing out obvious things like:

“Watch out for that building!”

“Oohh so close…”

“Come on darling, we’re all rooting for you!”

(It must be noted she was wearing sunglasses, it was a cloudy day, and sipping a piña colada)

Ever since then, she had taken it upon herself to seemingly make your life a living hell. If you went to fight a villain, she was there. If you took out one bad guy, she took out five. Constantly outdoing you, constantly bragging.

So, one day, today, when you were called in for a mission, you expected her constant annoying pestering.

You definitely weren’t expecting this.

The mutant you were fighting had the ability to manipulate gravity and was currently attempting to use said ability to turn the Empire State into a shish kabob. Stealthy, you had snuck up behind him, your own powers buzzing in your palms when he sent out a blast of anti gravity, throwing you off and sending you flying out into the sky. Since your powers didn’t include that of flight, you were certain your next act would to crash into the side walk. After you closed your eyes to brace yourself, you felt a warmth surrounding you. You opened your eyes to see purple light holding you in place, hundreds of feet in the air. Arms soon wrapped around you, making you spin your head around. Agatha smirked.

“Honey, if you wanted me to hold you, all you had to do was ask-”

She cut herself off, looking down at your hand. You scrunched your eyebrows in confusion, one at her bewildered look and two at her silence, and looked to where she was looking. What you saw made your heart practically stop beating.

The red strings attached to both of your ring fingers stretched out, braiding into each other while shifting into a dark purple. Agatha raised her eyes to examine your face as you took in this new information. When you looked up, your eyes were a mix of a blank expression and one of panic.

“You have got to be kidding me.”

The end of the battle came quickly as Agatha knocked out the mutant and begrudgingly returned the Empire State Building back to it’s original spot. Before you could even blink, you were poofed away. Startled, you stumbled backwards, your legs hitting a couch, causing you to collapse into the cushions. Agatha appeared next to you, wearing casual clothing as the leaned on the arm of the couch, her eyes examining you. For some reason, you found yourself blushing under her intense gaze. Agatha cocked her head to the side, raising her left hand up to show the soulmate string.

“So…”

You didn’t say anything, your posture rigid as you turned your head to stare at her wall.

“Honey, you need to look at me when I’m talking to you.” Agatha snapped, her voice void of the humor she used around you. Purple magic wrapped around your head, turning your gaze back to her. You sighed, rolling your eyes as you crossed your arms and leaned back into the couch.

“Look, Agatha, we don’t need to do anything about this. We can just go along our normal lives, forget that the universe made a mistake, and find partners who we don’t feel like strangling-”

The purple magic came to press on your mouth, silencing you. You also felt the warmth of Agatha’s magic wrapping around your wrists, holding them in place. The witch stood up from her place on the couch, only to stand in front of you. You looked up at her, watching as her blue eyes stared down at you. She then leaned forward, placing a hand on either side of you, her face inches away from yours. You cursed your heart for speeding up, revealing thoughts and feelings you had tried to bury from the beginning. You had always found her beautiful, too beautiful, that’s one of the reasons why you were so annoyed with her. Oh and the constant sarcastic, flirty, remarks-

Oh.

Something clicked inside your mind, memories playing like a movie montage in your mind. Aside from the first time you met, Agatha wasn’t being purposely annoying, she was flirting with you. And your oblivious ass chose violence instead.

“Darling, in case the little purple string on our fingers didn’t send the message clear enough, you’re mine. And I don’t intend on sharing.”

Her cold tone sent shivers down your spine and you nodded, your mind still blown by the idea she could actually like-like you. The magic on your mouth and wrists disappeared and Agatha stood up straight again, preparing to walk out of the room due to your silence.

“Agatha!” You blurted out, standing up quickly. The witch turned to your direction, her eyes boring into you as you fiddled with your fingers.

“I don’t think- I mean I guess,” you huffed at your inability to form words as Agatha stalked closer to you, a predatory look growing in her eyes, “God damn it I have a crush on you,” You whispered not so quietly as the realization hit you like a train, “So maybe you don’t have to…share…”

You trailed off at Agatha’s closeness, your back now hitting the wall as she caged you in. A smile, genuine and beautiful, grew on her face as she leaned in, chuckling.

“Oh red string of fate.”

| When you first met |

• When you arrived at the Baker estate, you had no clue what kinda hell you were getting yourself into.

• Thank god you are a tech wiz!

• No but seriously you were so lucky you could handle the weird puzzle locks all over the house.

• Some of which you actually managed to break and get through without the actual key.

• Lucas had seen you at the attempted dinner, but like Jack and Marguerite he'd lost you when that nosy reporter came poking around.

• Jack and Marguerite were determined to find you, but Lucas wasn't really interested.

• I mean yeah you're a total hottie, but he had better things to do than chase you around the old house.

• It had been hours since you vanished, no one had seen you anywhere, only traces of where you had been.

• I.e. Beyond broken locked doors, scattered electronics meticulously taken apart etc etc.

• And while going to tinker with one of his bigger projects, he heard a rhythmic tapping, like someone drumming their fingers in boredom.

• He thought he'd found you, as he followed the sound into a storage room that lead nowhere. Boy was he excited to have caught you before his parents could mess up your pretty face.

• "There you are!" His voice boomed in the room as he slammed open the door, his excited smile morphing into a confused frown.

• You weren't in the room, but instead in the middle of the floor lay a little machine with fingers and a motor.

• "Better luck next time." You called out before closing the door and locking it, effectively trapping Lucas.

• Who had spun on his heel at the sound of your voice, beyond astonished by what just happened.

• He's impressed you tricked him, but also pissed.

• Now he's made up his mind, your his pray, and no else is gonna break you.

• You had eluded the family for TWO whole days! Much longer than anyone else ever.

• And in that time you had disassembled and remade so many of Lucas's traps, it was impressive and infuriating for everyone.

• By now Lucas was infatuated with catching you, and breaking you. And making you a member of the family.

• All he needed was the perfect trap, patience, and a bit of luck.

• "There you are!" Lucas muttered excitedly when he finally caught sight of you on one of his monitors.

• As luck would have it, you were walking right into his lates and cleverest trap, and it would seem like you didn't even notice it!

• And in an instant you were hanging upside down, your pack with your gear falling to the ground as you hit your head.

• "Finally!" He jumped from his chair and rushed to the room you were hanging in.

• Your ears were ringing and your head felt like it was stuck in a pot underwater. Then the spinning started, your vision was fuzzy but every once in a while you could see a man's face.

• "You are one tough bitch to find." Lucas mused as he pushed your shoulder, giggling at the site of you spinning in the air.

• "What-" You groaned in pain. "What happened?" Your vision started coming back into focus, and the spinning finally stopped.

• "I finally caught you Princess." Lucas mused as he held your shoulders, keeping to still while he knelt down to be face to face with you.

• "And now you're mine." He grinned before knocking you out cold. Now it's time to meet the rest of the family.

Just like talking abt my guys… first ref w Lawrence specifically! He’s so funny to me idc. Was sort of a sidekick/ally to Sierra’s mom, and his whole thing was just being rlly fast LMAO. Speedster if u will… he managed to run himself into the future and at some point during Sierra’s Bplt era ran himself back and just retired as soon as he found Paige, one of the last living ppl in his family besides ppl out of state. He’s living comfortably to say the least!!! Paige also is good friends w Leah and Sierra!

Ellie oohh… lovingly married to Cal and a proud choir teacher fr! Loves her students a ridiculous amnt! Her shtick is being able to control certain parts of ppl, which she’s still working towards LMAO, but she mainly sticks to vocal cords, eardrums and parts of the brain related to speech. She managed to let herself go crazy w her voice without hurting anything and has a craaazy range LMAAOO.

T.V. and Carmen…. Carmen specifically is a menace on her blog, which she purely posts abt the latest hero/villain news, including drama shit and general news happening. T.V. is her little sidekick and manages to get whatever info they need, though she has a very easy time doing it on her own. Cam also runs the yearbook club and does the same damn thing with her own school. T.V. is much more chill and aspires to be a big comic artist, very much taking inspo from ppl like the Blaukers :-)). They also have a secret dream of hosting some sort of television segment or show LOL.

The Blaukers… both retired from being comic artist/writers interchangeably but Chris is more seen from his art and Bobby’s more seen from his writing. They met from both starting comic series abt Carolina’s Bolt, and eventually started to make the series together, making probably the most memorable series of any real-time hero. They sort of got the trend of it going as well, but at some point retired due to realizing that it was a bit immoral to treat heroes that way LMAO. They’ve been lenient on speaking on the issue seeing how more modern heroes act but are still very invested in the comic industry, even if they aren’t directly in it. Definitely caught in what’s going on and know everything happening with everyone

Kyra and Sean yaaayy! Not much to say abt them, but Sean is Sierra’s step brother and the both of them have always had a big influence on both Sierra and Luka. Mostly Luka when he was still with the family!

Chief Frye is just funny i just like thinking abt her sometimes

CAL colleen beloved thing oh my god. Lovingly married to Ellie!!! Local artist as hell, has worked w abt every medium u can think of and has sold her work to plenty of art shows and fairs. Def knows her craft. Also a good ally for heroes and villains alike, tho mostly villains LMAO, because she can get her say abt just anything. She gets her shit together for a good price fr. Also a childhood friend to Ethan, they’re silly!:-) type to get picked the hell up by her large wife and her large friend

oohh published? easily yes i know that he's my ex but can't two people reconnect? for tarlos! specifically this scene:

It’s a habit to fall onto TK during the afterglow. To let himself curl around his boyfriend as the big spoon as he catches his breath. Kissing every inch of skin he can reach as Carlos’ brain slowly gets back online and he realizes he’s laying in a mess of body fluids that’s quickly becoming gross and tacky rather than sexy and erotic. Even still he tends to want to stay cuddling with TK. His post-orgmasic body and mind refusing to want to do anything except revel in his adoration for the other man he’s with. It’s usually TK who has to rouse him up to shower and change the sheets. So he wraps his arms around TK, getting his body situated what his body is so used to after dozens if not hundreds of times of having sex with TK Strand. Except his mind forgets that it’s not like all those hundreds of times. Before he can get the chance to place his head in the crook on TK’s neck, TK flings himself off the bed as if shocked. “I need to shower. I’m all gross.” He gestures to his come stained stomach. Refusing to look at him, he stutters out excuses as he makes his way to the bathroom . “TK.” Carlos calls out. TK stops, but doesn’t turn around. What he wants to stay is to forget about this whole breakup thing. Forget about this dumb hoodie excuse and come back to bed, take Carlos back and pretend this breakup never happened. Move in with him and let them go back to where they were before. “There’s no linen closet in the bathroom, the towels are in-” “Yeah, I know. We talked about it, remember?” Yeah. He does. When they were looking at this place the lack of a linen closet was one of the first things they noticed. Immediately they were already talking ideas out loud of what and where they would put things in before the realtor asked if they were going to buy it. Shattering their dream home. Watching as he walks towards the bathroom, Carlos sees that at some point he did leave a hickey high up on TK’s neck. For some reason, Carlos doesn’t mind. Even if TK lies about who gave it to him, TK will know. He’ll remember what Carlos did to him tonight. “I’ll just head out and grab my hoodie after. It was-” TK stops. “It was nice.” Nice. Carlos suddenly feels transported back to the first time they hooked up. “Yeah. Ditto.” TK does as he promised. When he takes his yellow hoodie, a part of Carlos shuts down. It’s then he realizes it’s really over. A chapter hasn’t ended with a new one waiting to start. The book is closed. No sequel waiting to be read. Things with TK aren’t going to be mended. He takes his phone out. He hovers over TK’s contact information. Although he can’t bring himself to delete the number just yet, he can change the name. Now instead of Baby the name simply reads TK Strand (126) .

Oohh spooky Twig Boys that I may or may not slightly slightly enforce my southernness on (only the good southernness like cooking, music, hospitality none that other shit) I'll be more than happy to oblige anon hehe. It's not often I get to talk/discuss the masters of fear.

Again gonna just kinda discuss all the ones I write for since I'm the most informed on those versions so sorry if I missed one and the post got long lmao

Masters of Fear Scarecrow: since you asked for him specifically I put him first lmao. And this Jon is just incredibly endearing? I think he's an adorable spry kinda guy that, like most, deserved better. I'm also super fond of his design. Also as someone who writes for "x reader" it was nice to see him...actually have a romantic interest? (albeit she was a bully bitch) listen listen...any extra info in a romantic sense of a character I will take

Arkhamverse Scarecrow: Uhh can I just say, absolute whiplash in design and mannerisms lol. While I enjoy both its like...such a bizarre change? Like yeah he did go through something traumatic (being very close to dying) but like...a total voice change? Maybe there's some behind the scenes explanation or something I don't know but yeah...I do enjoy him being whimsy and silly in Asylum and brooding and stoic in Knight with his waxing poetic lectures...but also also...does anyone have any idea how Knight Scarecrow's face works? Like his mouth and such?

TNBA Scarecrow: Definitely a more gritty and intriguing take, especially considering its a revamp of BTAS. Allegedly this is the idea of Scarecrow with a noose started? And now we've seen it incorporated in other designs which is pretty cool.

BTAS Scarecrow: Much like Jervis and I think Batman as a whole, this was my first Scarecrow encounter, and cause of such there's a wee bias to him being one of my favorites lol. Super rich voice, I don't care if he's terrorizing me, I will die of fear peacefully. Solid design and a super strong depiction of the character overall? Also my god his theatrics, top notch such a dramatic lad I love him.

Dark Knight/Nolanverse Scarecrow: pretty eyes...pretty eyes..strong jawline..pretty pretty scarecrow..huh, what? Oh..uhh yeah he's...fine I guess..I mean like not just fine as in fine as hell just...meh? I don't know I just remember him being stupidly criminally pretty. Although to be fair I don't recall much about him..sorry (granted I don't recall much about nolanverse as a whole...its been at most five years rip)

Year One Scarecrow: it took me an embarrassingly long time for me to actually read Year One rip. But it was very gut wrenching. It was the best updated take I've seen on Jon's origins and just how deeply rooted he is in his obsession, and it was a unique way too? Like it was an interesting take on the broken family scenario, I dunno I just thought it was super enriching.

Fear State Scarecrow: so I will say the designs for him are jarring as there's like..a different artist between the beginning, middle, and end of Fear State. But I like both looks, especially in the middle where he looks a lot like his BTAS counterpart. It was an amazing surprise to see the spikey red hair and wide eyes again in comic form and more realistic but still animated? I hope that makes sense. But I loved the story, and he was especially cunning and ruthless here.

Happy Halloween, Scooby-Doo! Scarecrow: asdgggh this boomer asshole lmao. But definitely one of my top three favorites. He's a decent blend of old and new for me. Like he bears resemblance to BTAS but also some other comic appearances, he doesn't even need to he in the costumer and you can just tell he's Jonathan Crane. Also his voice is amazing, and I will forever be grateful to the writer that decided that Scarecrow was a fucking Elvira fan boy. Like of fucking course he'd love Elvira, Mistress of the Dark asdfghjj one of the few times where canon got it right lmao

Not sure what it is but lately (or even for a while now) I just don’t feel like drawing, especially fan art. I mean, the fan art thing is probably cause I’m not passionate about any fandoms or wtvr but even if I am I just… don’t want to draw or would rather be doing something else. Drawing feels like a chore now and maybe I’m just still burnt out from the whole visual novel thing last month;;; it could also just be another art block and perhaps I’ll get the motivation to pick up drawing again, which I really wish. I also feel like my decline/lack of skill in drawing is kinda stopping me from drawing (?) but I’m too lazy/not motivated to git gud. Hopefully I can get out of this rut soon. I have been having some things I want to draw like some more OCs and scamedb, but I just can’t bring myself to pick up the tablet pen 😔

And then there’s me doing mental gymnastics again where I think “I’m not drawing lately but everyone around me still is so I feel like I’m being left behind and/or lagging behind” Which like sucks cause we all know I have ~abandonment issues~

Also I feel like going on Twitter and seeing all the art is such a double edged sword now cause on one hand like “oOhh such good art, so inspiring! So motivational!! AHHHH IM GONNA DRAW!!!” But on the other it’s like “wow I’m feeling FOMO on all these fandoms lmao also wow these are so good I fucking SUCK and I never do anything about getting better, udon, you only have yourself to blame stop whining and figure a way to get good” and then I never figure out a way to get good cause -insert first paragraph of this post-

I just have no drive anymore and I still keep holding on and hoping that there is something or even SOMEONE that will motivate me to get me off my ass and start loving drawing again. I guess you could say I shouldn’t be relying on ppl/things but it do hit different when u have someone close to share the same interest with and draw and bounce ideas off each other and motivate each other to draw

I’m sure this isn’t the first time I’ve written about this and I’m sure y’all are tired of hearing it but thank you for reading to the end

Oohh that's pretty cool! Maybe I'll go give some of your storys a reading. (Ya, sorry to say but I haven't really read anything you posted on ao3) are there any story's you'd recommend reading that talks about Hosts story and how he came to be? I know you pretty much already gave me a gist of Host's story, which by the way, is really flipping cool! But I'd also like to read something when you go a little more into detail ^^

Yep I'm pretty familiar with Coraline. The whole thing of putting buttons in place of eyes kind of freaks me out a bit, but it's still a really good movie. (Haven't seen it in a few years. Maybe I should give it a watch some time soon)

The though of ego dolls in that style sounds pretty cool. all I can think about is a doll darkiplier that looks like that. I kind of wanna make one now lol.

She fell for Kieran only for it to all be a lie😭😭 He kinda reminded me of S1 Grace with him coming from Ireland and tricking the reader into falling for him as a cover for his evil! OH AND THIS MAN KILLED POLLY AND ABRAMA!!!! I hope he suffered badly!!! Like you can't kill them! You aweful jack hole! You're worse than Campbell and Mosley!!! Kieran more like Kill joy, I spit on his name!!! I didn't think she would but I feel like Tommy or Arthur would possibly blame the reader for what happened a bit just because the reader was dating Kieran! It also made me laugh how Tommy had said he stole the rug in America but Eva was like "nope" don't go lying to my maid! I also liked how you described her study room! It was very well done and I could almost feel the readers apprehension (nerves?) about going in, but this time it was more peaceful! I loved it! And then at the end Eva had her given a key to the sitting room! Oh that's special!! 🥰🥰It was sweet and also reminded me of a post I think you had made about Eva probably having a room full of cursed (or de-cursed) objects given to her by tommy! Only this de-cursed thing (us!😁) is able to move in and out of the room😂 I loved how Eve started telling the reader about her "younger" years too! Hey i really love your blog!!! I just plucked the courage to actually send u an ask fhdjhd but GOSH i love your video edits and your gifs and your meta article posts, you're so articulate and you can explain/describe moments in a way that makes me go "oh wow, i cant believe i haven't seen it that way before!!" Haha ANYWAYS i'm just here to say that i completely agree with what all u said, Free creators might do a lil fanservice here and there for the 25 ships that exists within the fandom's circle, but rinharu's storyline is clearly the most romantic one! And i'd argue it's the one closest to being canon esp after part 1, i mean the fact that they put such an explosive emotional outburst right at the end of the second to the last movie means a lot. It's like reinforcing the fact that this series has always been about them, and everything that has happened only happened either because they met or they grew appart and miss eachother. I kinda feel like maybe.. juust maayyybe there's a chance KA wants to make the ship canon, since it's the last movie and they want to end it on a highnote maybe (bcs honestly i think the only reason they've been holding back is purely bcs of the merch sales, since they don't have a problem showing a wholesome lesbian love story in kobayashi maid dragon) butt i could be wrong, maybe i'm just overly optimistic and delusional, they could somehow ruin it and give an ending that panders to all the ships again 😅🥲, but at least there's a clear-cut guarantee that part 2 would dedicate a large portion of it fixing rin and haru's fight!!! Well, you know me, I only care for one ship, which is the only one with confirmed info that they're both actually gay and have mutual feelings for each other. There are some other ships in free! I'm fine with (those do not include Rin or Haru in them xD), but I just mostly don't care, bc after reading all the stuff, you can see that in some of those to one the other one is actually like his second option, which I just do not like. Others I just don't even see, bc again to me who witnessed great close male friendships and having two sisters who I'm very close to, I just do not see anything romantic in that.

It's not just Free! tbh, it's like any sports anime these days. They see two guys walking together, it's a ship. And like no one cares if they're just bros. Like I'd get i they did some fanservice fanservice, but like I never saw anyone in Free! crossing the line the way rinharu do. I can without thinking much name you 10 rh moments that no matter how hard you think can't be explain as being bros, but can't name one when it comes to others. I just find some ppl shipping everyone with everyone weird sometimes. It's like western fans see like some eastern actors or singers slap each other ass lovingly and they're like "oh they're fucking" I'm like "yeah, ofc all 500 of them, you're absolutely right". And Free! doesn't do anything even like that, I just do not get sometimes like what moment even brought on some ships. I'm genuinely confused. Albert and Haru? You fucking fell from a sakura tree or smth? I'm...

I'm especially confused when it comes to guys, whose character type is who I call "I only want this one and if I can't have it, then I'm ok" xD. It just always surprised me, when they try to pair up them with someone else, it's like a complete ooc.

I'm also not into this whole "well, if there are gays in this anime, than everyone there is gay". I'm like... huh. It's like with KNB and MDZS I had same feeling. It's like you have already couples there who are canon/borderline canon, why do you need another 10 who don't even interact or just don't even go there? I'm always so confused in those situations. Or like wangxian is married and some are like "no, I actually don't like it, let me write a fic when they're with other ppl". Lan Zhan... being in love or having sex with someone else? Yeah, that's not Lan Zhan, dude, you're writing about someone else. Might as well change the name at this point.

But last time I went to twitter someone had a thread about how if they make s4 of Free! they should mainly explore there Momo's angst (and no, it wasn't a joke), so I'm already like, I'm just.. nothing will surprise me no more. But I'm forever gonna be confused.

Yeah, I eel you about "going there". I mean seeing part of it, it just kinda cemented my confusion, bc I do not get how it can be considered platonic. We were just discussing since yesterday with @freeseafirefly how I now even more perplexed and do not understand how they will resolve it without going into relationship territory. It's just our point here is that like... no one forced them to go there (I mean its not like this whole fandom has some wild expectations or anything already), we were waiting or our usual friendship and swimming and maybe tiny conflict about struggles of pro-careers and some usual rh implications (maybe all the rh gay in dramas as always). Not some pure fanfiction coming to life here haha.

Like why I'm laughing is bc I twice used in my "fics" bringing up him leaving Haru as a force to push the confession, bc there's no way if he adresses this it won't lead to this. And now we not only have this (bc Haru just basically layed it out there), but an actual scene of him playing on their feelings for each other and a literal image of Rin leaving and "taking Haru's heart with him" to the point when he's for the first time in his life openly crying on the ground. And it's not like this scene can be interpreted as anything else, the whole fandom talks same, bc the whole fight was just about them, what Haru said was just about them, there's a literal boom of his heart getting out of his chest, before he falls and now he's heartless.

So our question is like... why go there?

It's like some say that they might still resolve it with "they're special to each other" and swimming, but still like we already knew that, there was no reason to go that far is what I'm saying. And to think that it was planned since forever giving the clues is like... ???

The whole spoon theme also throw me on the loop because like, lets be honest, it's wedding themed. And that part of the interview about part 2 there also made me go...?????? Because I mean, huh?

This is just all in all very interesting turn of events to say the least. I do not see the point of all of this if its not what I think it is, esp after seeing tweets like "even I see a rh wedding and I'm mh T_T". It's just all very unsubtle, that's why we're confused.

Like who knows, maybe we'll really by some magic turn of events get lucky and they really decided that since its the ending, it's okay to go for it. But I also don't wanna to hype myself much, I'm already really happy with it, just bc again, this scene already proves all of my points.

And yeah, I'm sure they'll pander to everyone, bc it's the end and etc and we have to handle everything on the good note and there's a whole line of ppl who's obsessed with us, esp with Haru xD, but like bromance pandering and romance pandering are different things, you know *wiggles eyebrows* and u know who always gets the second one.

RWBY characters races for AUs set in our world.

How I’m going to do this: three things. The first, the city they live in Remnant. This is the least important because that leaves us with only five…maybe six places compared to our world’s hundreds of countries.

The second will be the original of their names, which they’ll have to keep in the AUs, meaning that they need some culture background for them.

The third will be their fairy tale origins.

So to start, Ruby Rose:

She lives in Vale, which is similar to France (I’ll explain why in another post maybe), but technically grew up in patch, a small island off the coast of Vale. I have no idea about Patch’s culture as we hardly ever see it, so I’m going to skip this one. We also don’t know if either Summer or Taiyang was originally from Vale.

We know Taiyang is Chinese from his name, so I’m going to say she’s half Chinese. I also wrote a western au once and really love the idea of Taiyang being an Asian Redneck…so I think I’m going to say Ruby is very, very southern just because that would be adorable.

But if you don’t want that idea I generally see Taiyang being either Asian-American or Asian-French, or Asian-British if your doing a HP AU. Summer is harder to pin down, but Red Riding Hood was originally an Italian fable, so I’m going to have her be Italian or Italian-American.

Weiss:

Weiss is German, although making her simply white America/British would work. I could see her being Russian too in some AU because Atlas fits well as Russia. For American works, Pennsylvania has quite the German population and coal mines, so that works pretty well for her.

Blake is really complicated. From Remment Australia which is culturally SEA (south East Asian), has an English name but parents with a Hindu-inspired names, but neither looking vaguely Indian. I’m going to assume her family are immigrants (as they are in cannon I think) to Australia, maybe even changed their name to help them fit in. Immigrants from where? Well, India is an option, but I like to think Malaysia. They have a large Indian and Chinese population, and I like to think Blake is a mixture of Chinese, Malay, and Indian ethnicities, from Malaysia and immigrated to Australia. And if you think this is crazy or unrealistic, you haven’t seen anything yet. The sheer mix of cultures I’ve seen growing up as an ex-pat is insane. This isn’t too crazy.

For Yang, we already have Taiyang as an Asian red-neck. Or at least I do. Raven and Qrow are going to be a little harder to pin down, but I’m think bandits getting replaced by mafia. Which mafia? I don’t know, take you’re pick. Branwen is Welsh, but I can’t think of a Welsh mafia. Coming from Mistral I would see them as being Triad, not Yakuza because Raven’s gang is famous for being less than coordinated.

If you need a logical reason for Yang having blonde hair, Taiyang could be only half Chinese, half blonde (blonde is race right?).

Either way I see Raven operating in an American city like New York or Detroit.

This would mean Yang is fully Chinese ethnically.

JNPR:

Jaune’s name and inspiration are all French. However his mother does come from Mistral (I think), so I do see him being half Chinese, but nationally French. It’s also funny to imagine him with a French accent.

Pyrrha: she’s Greek or maybe Greek-American with her parents being recent immigrants. Argus seems to Remnent-Greece and her name and fairy tale are greek.

Nora: she should be Scandinavian. I feel like in a MCU AU she’s Thor’s daughter. But she also grew up as a street rat in Mistral, which is hard to fit in our world. Therefore I’m going to have her in America, the great melting pot (and also America seems to be more like Mistral than any other Remnent king with our state system), and she going to ethically Scandinavian but knowing nothing of her culture due to her upbringing.

Ren: obviously Chinese, but I might have him be American-Chinese to fit his story nicely in with Nora’s.

Others:

Coco: we’re all ignoring that she’s based off Coco Channel, so let’s make her a LA girl

Velvet: Australia, because of the accent. Or maybe English because that is her story origin

Fox: he’s difficult, because tribes are pretty rare in modern AUs. But his story could work for various things. He’s one of the few black characters so he could come from practically any African tribe (I’m currently going with Hausa because it’s one of the few I know anything about). His name is based off ‘the fox and the hound’ which is a rare American story, so he could also be from a Native American tribe if you want the AU to be more American-based.

Yatsuhashi: Japanese, this one is thankfully easy.

Sun: Chinese. He comes from a tribe as well, but I can’t think of any nomadic Chinese tribes except the Uyghurs. Making Sun a Uyghur doesn’t make much sense but it will serve to piss off certain people on the internet. And now this is going to be taken down, isn’t it? Oh wait, this is tumbrl. This is anarchy. It won’t. Forgot why I liked this place for a second.

Scarlet: sorry for the rambling there. Anyway, Scarlet is definitely English. “I hope I don’t get sand in my shoes.”

Sage: well, he’s black, but other then that we have nothing to go one. He’s also from Mistral but that doesn’t really work? If Mistral is America as well as China I guess we can make him African American. Or whatever else works best for the AU. He might be Indian too now that I think of it. Or even Maori. Really options are limitless here.

Neptune: Yeah, so probably just American, but does have both a French last name and an Italian first name. So probably ethically American (aka white mutt). Also he lives near a port, I think I’m gonna gone with him being from Tacoma Washington because I am.

Flynt: African American

Neon: Japanese-American because of her meme (it started as part of Japanese pop song on YouTube, the latter of which is America summed up in one invention)

Oscar: Hispanic-American, he just looks it. And I’m guessing he lives in Kansas for obvious reasons. His last name isn’t Hispanic but their could be a lot of reasons for that. Or he could be Native American (Pawnee, Cheyenne, and Osage are all Native American tribes in Kansas).

Penny: well if she’s still a robot she probably stays white, but if you want her human in this AU she might end up being half black as Pietro is, although she also could just be adopted. I guess the later makes more sense, huh? I figure she’s American, with her dad working with a ‘well meaning’ but ultimately corrupt government. Probably living in DC, as that has both the government and the poverty issues.

Emerald: oohh, boy. This is hard. Sustrai is Basque, and Aladdin is a French addition to an Arabian story, she herself is dark skinned with anime features that are super unhelpful for this sorta thing.

I have three ideas. Brazilian, mostly as there’s no South American themed RWBY characters I can think of, and it’s diverse enough that someone looking like Emerald would fit. Secondly, for American centered stories she’s just an orphan with no idea of her ethnicity. Or she could be African, Indian, Pacific Islander, or Hispanic or some mixture between those four. It’s honestly really hard to tell. In my fanfic she’s from Suriname and ethnically 1/4 Indian, 1/2 Creole, and 1/4 Javanese.

Ilia: Sioux (Native American). Ilia means a lot of things in a lot of different languages, and Amitola mean rainbow in Sioux, so I decided to just stick with that.

Mercury: American, white mutt American. I’m guessing New York or Philli for where he grew up, it seems like a place where he’d be comfortable

Neo: the new novel reveals her father lived in vale (btw I haven’t read it, I’m just getting this off the internet) and her mother was a assassin who’s origins aren’t known. She doesn’t really have a fairy tale. So I’m going to go with British or French (thank RWBY thoughts for the first one) although in an American AU she works as just a white American.

Robyn: depends on what Atlas is in this AU, but probably German or American.

Qrow: I already mentioned he’s probably Chinese due to being from Mistral. It’s a bit weird to think of him as Asian, but not as weird as it to think of Raven as white, so I’ll take it. Although I do like the idea of him being American Irish, that’s fun.

Winter: whatever Atlas is in this AU, German or American, although British and Russian would work well too.

Maria: Mexican

Salem: If you want a AU where she’s just a normal person then New England or Italian for her story origin

Watts: British

Tyrian: uh…I have no idea, but he looks white. And he kinda has a British accent? I want him to be southern for the accent tho. Probably just another crazy American

Cinder: her fairy tale is French but her origin is Chinese. Also, Cinderella doesn’t really have an origin, it’s an ancient story with every culture having at least one Cinderella story. So I’m going to say Chinese.

Hazel: American, from the Midwest. He’s darkish so maybe he’s a POC? Part Native American or Hispanic? Idk or really care I can’t stand Hazel

Roman Torchwick: American-Italian, he runs/works for the mafia

Ozpin: American because of the whole wizard-of-Oz-thing or French, because he seems to have come from Vale.

Glynda: American or French for the same reasons Ozpin is

Oobleck: Jewish American (because Dr. Seuss was)

Professor Port: Russian, due to his fairy tale, or English, due to his style

Taiyang: already said he’s a red-neck Asian.

Raven: depending on whether you want her to be white or not, either Chinese or Irish American, like I already said.

Cordovin: Karen

Ironwood: again, depends on Atlas in the AU. Either American or German…maybe Russian

Clover: Irish-American (or German, obviously the ace-ops depend on where Atlas is. I’m just going to do the rest of them assuming Atlas is American because Germany isn’t that diverse)

Harriet: African-American, I guess. It kinda messes with the story because Harriet is supposed to be privileged, which doesn’t really work in this AU, but she’s also obviously black.

Elm: Just normal American, maybe greek-American because of the Aesop fable themes

Vine: Tibetan based on his design

Marrow: either African-American or Pakistani/Indian-American. (I’m personally going for Pakistani)

Klein: english. All butlers are English. It’s a rule.

Pietro: African-American

Johanna: Pakistani or Indian American

Fiona: Jewish-American (kinda random but while she’s obviously white she also needs to be a minority for the Faunus thing to work)

May: normal upper glass American/German

Ghira: Half Malay, Half Indian, from Malaysia but immigrated to Australia later in life

Kali: half Chinese, half Indian, but also from Malaysia

Adam: much like Fiona I’m going to assume he’s Jewish due to him being white but still needing to be a minority. German or American, again, depending on where Atlas is. Or he could be Chinese, even though it doesn’t work with his name, due to the theory that he was trafficked much like Cinder. I’m going with ethically Jewish though

Sienna Khan: Indian

Oohh, yes and no? So, lemme set the scene here.

It's May, 2012. You have a 14-year-old girl. Just about to go into high school. For various (and non-nefarious) reasons, she is stuck in the basement floor of a farmhouse 24/7, a forty-minute drive away from the nearest city, a twelve hour drive from her nearest friends. She is...oh so bored.

But! Her saving grace! Her father is an idiot who pays for a shitload of subscription services on his basement television, and he uses it about once a week. She has access to the remote. >:)

So, what does this magic obsessed 14-year-old do? She binges. Everything. Classic star trek. Classic doctor who. New doctor who. Charmed. The OG Teen Wolf movies. Kyle XY. Smallville. Fuck dude, she even watches like a full season of Switched at Birth, and three episodes of Pretty Little Liars. Then what does she find? A cringey looking teen drama called Teen Wolf, with the prettiest brunette in the teaser screenshot, which coincidentally has the same as those movies she watched. But clearly, they cannot be the same thing or even a reboot, bc this looks fucking dumb.

But she watches it anyway. There's exactly 1 season out. The main character bugs the shit out of her, for no reason she can find besides she hates his floofy hair (I knew about fifty guys with that hair, and let me tell you I was fucking sick of it). The majority of the characters are ripped, which she doesn't care about, as she's got a friend the same age who is JUST as ripped, so she doesn't see it as weird. They keep trying to have sex on screen, and she is just SO confused about what is sexy when there's a bleeding man waiting on you. There's this really scrawny side character who has ADHD, and holy shit she's never seen someone HAVE ADHD on television before. He acts just like her when she's feeling bouncy. She is enamored immediately. The pretty boy from the screenshot is a tall, broody, grim-dark butthead with a leather jacket and the cutest fuckin fangs. Nuff said. She is enamored immediately.

But what's this? The season is over. Broody Boy has these gorgeous red eyes and a new rumbly voice that makes her hum it's so nice, Scrawny Boy has revealed his badassery through molotov cocktails and gaining the begrudging respect of his high school bully. Floofy boy is...kissing the girl who tried to kill him. She's still confused on that one, but they look happy, so yay. With the season over, having been binged in a literal day (yes. i watched it for almost twelve hours straight and my eyes burned. This was nothing new), she sighs, daydreams for a little while (read: three days) about how fucking awesome pack cuddles would be, bc werewolves, and then runs off to write her own werewolf story that is completely and totally different to the show (It isn't, there are weird similarities, cus' she's 14 and an idiot, but she fuckin tried) and immediately forgets the show exists. Skip forward about ohhh fuck when was it? four years? five? It's like 2016-2017, okay? Possibly 2018. I have a shit memory. i kno i was in college. Ya girl's on the webs, tippy tapping. She wanders across Teen Wolf, and BOOM it's either finished or almost finished, all she knows is everyone's FREAKING OUT about seeing the finale. She rewatches s1 for the nostalgia....and just keeps hitting that 'next episode' button. THen, she starts having opinions. Boyd and Erica and Isaac deserve hugs. Derek deserves hugs. Stiles deserves hugs. Scot is...there. not bad, not good, but there.

So, she sits down in 2018 at this fancy new website called Ao3 that she's only just started posting semi-regularly on (and it's Doctor Who fic), and writes out a little fic called "Needed." Suddenly she is IMMERSED in fandom. Chatting to people in the comments, looking stuff up on tumblr, creating a whole side-blog. It's not just a slippery slope, she fell off a cliff and landed in a pile of Stereky Goodness, and man, she has no intention of digging her way out. So, yeah, I wasn't in fandom, but I was a fan, for all of like a week before i forgot it existed. Then when I came back it'd either just ended or was about to end, and I hate watching Currently Running shows bc I hate waiting for new episodes, so I refused to look at any current fandom stuff until it was well over and done with. And then, I joined fandom properly.
